- 0:38Speaker 4: Good afternoon everyone, and welcome to Kats and Pudding. And
- 0:42Speaker 4: today I have a wonderful guest, mister Phil Kine, and
- 0:45Speaker 4: he is from a great show that everybody knows. I've
- 0:50Speaker 4: been talking about it for the last two years and
- 0:53Speaker 4: it's called The Squid Games.
- 0:54Speaker 3: So welcome Phil, Welcome to our show. I'm happy to
- 0:57Speaker 3: have you here today.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it's stope to be here.
- 0:59Speaker 3: You are You're awesome.
- 1:00Speaker 4: And we met at at a party a couple a
- 1:03Speaker 4: couple of months ago when we sure did connected and
- 1:06Speaker 4: I thought you were great and I had said, you're
- 1:08Speaker 4: not a character, but a character. And I really do
- 1:12Speaker 4: love the show. I think it's a great show. Now
- 1:15Speaker 4: we were just actually talking about this. How did you
- 1:18Speaker 4: get on the show? How did it happen? And was
- 1:22Speaker 4: it what you were expecting?
- 1:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it's kind of a funny story. So I've been
- 1:25Speaker 1: following some casting pages and stuff online. I do a
- 1:27Speaker 1: little bit of acting on the side, and so I
- 1:29Speaker 1: saw the ad for the show and I just was,
- 1:32Speaker 1: you know, whatever, I'll apply. I never saw the original
- 1:35Speaker 1: show or anything, so I was like, yeah, just like
- 1:36Speaker 1: one of those things. And I never heard back from them.
- 1:38Speaker 3: So the original show is a lot different.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yes, So I found out because they ended up casting
- 1:45Speaker 1: me like months and months and months later, and they
- 1:47Speaker 1: sent me the information three days before I flew out,
- 1:50Speaker 1: and so I had three days to catch up on
- 1:52Speaker 1: the original show sort of figure out what was going on.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And by that point I was like, Oh, it's gonna
- 1:55Speaker 1: be one of those and so I just kind of
- 1:58Speaker 1: went for it.
- 2:00Speaker 3: So it was.
- 2:00Speaker 4: But did you find it fine? Did you know what
- 2:03Speaker 4: was a reality show or you thought it was?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so we knew it was a reality show. They
- 2:07Speaker 1: gave us very little information to go off of, though,
- 2:09Speaker 1: like we didn't know anything that was going all, Like
- 2:11Speaker 1: the twists and turns were all very real, like they were.
- 2:14Speaker 1: They would tell us those things like literally as the
- 2:16Speaker 1: show was happening, and so we knew it was a
- 2:18Speaker 1: reality show, but I really didn't know what to expect.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Like I'm not a big reality TV guy, so I've
- 2:21Speaker 1: never really, you know, seen this kind of shows, like
- 2:23Speaker 1: competition shows anything like that, So I just figured you
- 2:25Speaker 1: want for me, I'm just gonna go, I'm gonna have
- 2:27Speaker 1: a good time and don't meet some good people, and
- 2:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Have you already invested in it at this point, but
- 2:31Speaker 4: we were like, who are we Like, Oh my god,
- 2:33Speaker 4: they're like like murdering people on this show. Is this
- 2:35Speaker 4: gonna be like some crazy like thing.
- 2:38Speaker 3: That's gonna happen to me? It isn't like some weird
- 2:40Speaker 3: twists and turns.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So they did specify in the original contract that they
- 2:44Speaker 1: would not be murdering us, So that was that would
- 2:46Speaker 1: be like the first thing like, hey, this is not real.
- 2:48Speaker 3: No murder will take place.
- 2:50Speaker 1: It's not real exactly. However, when we were in the show,
- 2:52Speaker 1: it definitely felt like some people were dying because like
- 2:54Speaker 1: people would get eliminated, like these close friends that you
- 2:56Speaker 1: made over like these weeks and weeks and then you
- 2:58Speaker 1: would never see them again. And like know, Netflix is
- 3:00Speaker 1: like clapping them in the parking lot outside or like
- 3:02Speaker 1: anything like that until we got out. So it was
- 3:06Speaker 1: like the fear was very real, Like.
- 3:07Speaker 3: What am I getting myself into?
- 3:09Speaker 4: Well, the original show, I don't know if everybody knows it,
- 3:12Speaker 4: but it is it is. It is a game and
- 3:15Speaker 4: there is murder involved. So basically people are fighting for
- 3:18Speaker 4: a big amount of money. So I think in the
- 3:20Speaker 4: original show it was like one hundred billion dollars or
- 3:22Speaker 4: something like that. The Netflix series and they pretty much
- 3:27Speaker 4: people get clipped off if they go to the games.
- 3:29Speaker 4: They if they don't make it, they die basically, so
- 3:32Speaker 4: and it's like some screwed up games that they have
- 3:35Speaker 4: to play. So you guys had to play similar games.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Whell like the cutout cookie thing with the umbrella. Nobody
- 3:41Speaker 4: wants the umbrella. They wave the umbrella exactly. The circle
- 3:44Speaker 4: is the easiest right to get it out. Now, how
- 3:47Speaker 4: did you feel about Like are you a person who
- 3:49Speaker 4: could play games?
- 3:50Speaker 3: Are you like a gaming part? Like you know, do
- 3:52Speaker 3: you like games.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I like games.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Because you would call them all like puzzles.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of them were kind of puzzles. Most
- 3:59Speaker 1: of it was luck based, if I'm being honest, but
- 4:01Speaker 1: it was it was a fun challenge, and like I like,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I'm an athlete, like I play sports, I play professional quadball,
- 4:05Speaker 1: and so I love you know, the competition side of it,
- 4:07Speaker 1: you know that, like who's going to be able to
- 4:08Speaker 1: make it? Stuff like that, And so some of them,
- 4:10Speaker 1: like like Red Like green Light for example, that was
- 4:12Speaker 1: very much like a physical game. Like that was basically
- 4:14Speaker 1: who could last longest, you know, who could stay still
- 4:16Speaker 1: the longest, stuff like that, And that was easily the
- 4:18Speaker 1: hardest one. But when it came to things like rolling
- 4:20Speaker 1: the dice or you know, like rock paper scissors like
- 4:23Speaker 1: stuff like that, like a lot of it really is luck.
- 4:25Speaker 3: That's true. I mean.
- 4:26Speaker 4: And I had another one of your cast members, Dash
- 4:29Speaker 4: on the show, and he was saying, we love.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Dash, we do that.
- 4:33Speaker 4: He said that the Red Like green Light was actually
- 4:35Speaker 4: from what you were watching on the show, it took
- 4:38Speaker 4: so much longer, and you were really and to stand
- 4:41Speaker 4: still that long and to stand like in the position that.
- 4:44Speaker 3: You're stopped at and it is very taxing on the body.
- 4:47Speaker 1: So yeah, no, it was tough.
- 4:48Speaker 3: So how many hours was it did it take?
- 4:50Speaker 1: I want to say it was something like eight hours
- 4:52Speaker 1: that we were playing. Yeah, it was eight hours of
- 4:55Speaker 1: like no bathroom breaks. It was so cold the entire
- 4:58Speaker 1: time we were there, and and we had to when
- 5:01Speaker 1: we would freeze, we had to hold that position for
- 5:03Speaker 1: like fifteen to thirty minutes at a time because they
- 5:05Speaker 1: had to come around do all the camera panning, they
- 5:06Speaker 1: had to check all the censors, all that kind of stuff,
- 5:08Speaker 1: because like like the Squid game, like they make it
- 5:10Speaker 1: seem like it all happened very quickly, but a lot
- 5:12Speaker 1: of those like games took like the entire day to
- 5:15Speaker 1: film just because of like production stuff like that. And
- 5:17Speaker 1: so but during Red, like green Light, it was very real,
- 5:20Speaker 1: like we had to freeze for that long and that
- 5:22Speaker 1: was just like it was almost as mentally taxing as
- 5:24Speaker 1: it was physically, Like it was very difficult physically to
- 5:26Speaker 1: get through. But just like keeping your like brain occupied
- 5:29Speaker 1: like for that long, like what are you supposed to
- 5:31Speaker 1: think about? You can't talk, you can't like do anything
- 5:33Speaker 1: like that, so you have to tell.
- 5:35Speaker 4: You're doing a sitting and worrying about I can't move
- 5:37Speaker 4: because I have all this money.
- 5:38Speaker 3: It's sa like, now, how much money was it stayed
- 5:40Speaker 3: for the show?
- 5:41Speaker 1: It was four and a half million dollars. Wow?
- 5:43Speaker 3: Wow? Tax deductible?
- 5:46Speaker 1: Uh yes, I believe the winner did have to pay taxes.
- 5:50Speaker 3: So don't get about to your mill. That's not bad.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not bad.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Not too bad.
- 5:56Speaker 4: And did you feel like you had a real shot,
- 5:59Speaker 4: like in the big Well, when did you feel it?
- 6:01Speaker 3: Because you got pretty far?
- 6:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I got a second place.
- 6:04Speaker 3: I mean you got really fun.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I mean so did you think you were going to
- 6:07Speaker 3: get that far? In well? Luck?
- 6:09Speaker 1: I gotta be so honest. At no point during the
- 6:12Speaker 1: entire game, I never thought I was going to make
- 6:14Speaker 1: it that far. Really, like I was going just to
- 6:15Speaker 1: have a good time. I was like listen, one in
- 6:17Speaker 1: four hundred and fifty six contestants, like come on, there's
- 6:19Speaker 1: no way. But then getting closer and closer to the end,
- 6:22Speaker 1: I was like, okay, like maybe I'll stick it out
- 6:25Speaker 1: a little longer. And then being in like the final three,
- 6:27Speaker 1: I was like, oh my god, like I might actually
- 6:28Speaker 1: do this. Yeah. It was crazy.
- 6:31Speaker 3: And then and to nobody second pers got anything only the.
- 6:34Speaker 1: First No, yeah, just Winter Takes All.
- 6:38Speaker 4: This was just no, it was just like you're going
- 6:40Speaker 4: to do it for and that was it, just to
- 6:42Speaker 4: go full money.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Just thought to be a fun experience. I mean they
- 6:44Speaker 1: covered like hotels, they covered food, room and board and
- 6:47Speaker 1: stuff like that, and flights and all that. But yeah,
- 6:49Speaker 1: it was just Winter Takes All.
- 6:50Speaker 3: For was inside this warehouse with all those people.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, the first two nights were nice because we got
- 6:55Speaker 1: to quarantines in the hotel. But then yeah, the rest
- 6:57Speaker 1: of the time we were stuck in that massive door
- 7:00Speaker 1: room set.
- 7:01Speaker 3: But I bet you it was a lot of fun
- 7:02Speaker 3: though at times. Was it fun?
- 7:03Speaker 1: It was, yeah, I like I like to say it
- 7:05Speaker 1: was equal parts fun and traumatic because like the games,
- 7:09Speaker 1: so I there were rumors that people were hooking up. However,
- 7:12Speaker 1: I think because we were like in the same because
- 7:14Speaker 1: we were wearing the same clothes the entire time, so
- 7:16Speaker 1: wearing the same clothes, like not really getting to shower
- 7:18Speaker 1: when we wanted to stuff like that, like being covered
- 7:21Speaker 1: in those like pajamas and stuff. It wasn't really the
- 7:23Speaker 1: most like enticing the situation.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Yeah exactly, So wait a minute, what do you mean
- 7:29Speaker 4: you didn't get to shower.
- 7:31Speaker 1: So so we did get to shower, but but a
- 7:32Speaker 1: lot of times it was like on their like production schedules,
- 7:36Speaker 1: so like there were times where like we couldn't you know, shower,
- 7:38Speaker 1: couldn't like use the bathrooms or anything like that because
- 7:40Speaker 1: they had us specifically in the room playing the games
- 7:43Speaker 1: and stuff like that. And even like for me, the
- 7:44Speaker 1: last I think three days, they didn't let me wash
- 7:47Speaker 1: my hair because they were like, okay, quick five minute
- 7:49Speaker 1: showers only, and I'm like, girl, like, it takes a
- 7:51Speaker 1: little longer than that for these luscious locks, you know
- 7:54Speaker 1: what I mean. So so that's why it was really
- 7:56Speaker 1: embarrassing because I had these huge flakes of dan drope
- 7:59Speaker 1: that I got called out on on Twitter.
- 8:00Speaker 3: For like somebody my shampoo, baby, Yeah, that's what.
- 8:04Speaker 1: We didn't have anything like take anything, We no no
- 8:08Speaker 1: products or anything yet. So I was low key suffering.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie, but I.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Don't know if I would have been able to handle that.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it was tough.
- 8:15Speaker 3: But I don't wash my hair all the time anywhere.
- 8:17Speaker 3: I have to be honest. I only washed my hair
- 8:19Speaker 3: once a week.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Really, Oh my god, it looks stunning you.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Know why, because I was told that the more you
- 8:25Speaker 4: wash your hair, the less lust it has because the
- 8:29Speaker 4: natural oils. But listen, after a while, it's gonna look greasy.
- 8:33Speaker 4: If you're in a hot suit and you're sweating, you know,
- 8:36Speaker 4: your scalp looks gross.
- 8:37Speaker 3: And that's what happens.
- 8:38Speaker 4: That's trying to put a little dry shampoo. But if
- 8:41Speaker 4: I didn't have that dry shampool, I would have died.
- 8:43Speaker 3: I would have died. I would have been like, oh my.
- 8:45Speaker 4: God, So did you do you feel like you formed
- 8:48Speaker 4: a lot of bonds with people.
- 8:49Speaker 3: On the show.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Yeah? Absolutely, I mean I like to say nothing bonds
- 8:52Speaker 1: people like trauma. So and because we didn't have our
- 8:56Speaker 1: cell phones, we didn't have any other games to play.
- 8:58Speaker 1: We did literally didn't have anything to do besides just
- 9:00Speaker 1: sit and talk to each other and hear each other's
- 9:02Speaker 1: stories and befriend each other. And for like seventeen days straight,
- 9:05Speaker 1: there was nothing else to do. So we became really close,
- 9:07Speaker 1: really fast. So there was honestly, really nice and so
- 9:09Speaker 1: I walked away with some I think lifelong friendships, which
- 9:11Speaker 1: I'm really stoked about. That was definitely the best part
- 9:13Speaker 1: of the entire thing.
- 9:14Speaker 3: What do you think is the most What did you get? Like,
- 9:17Speaker 3: if you could.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Say one thing that you got out of this experience,
- 9:21Speaker 4: what would be the thing that you would say, Well, I.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Think it taught me a lot about myself. I think
- 9:26Speaker 1: I learned that I'm definitely a lot more able to withstand,
- 9:30Speaker 1: a lot more than I thought I was. It definitely
- 9:32Speaker 1: taught me that coming so close to the money too,
- 9:34Speaker 1: was huge for me, because like, originally I went in,
- 9:35Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, whatever, I'm just gonna have some fun,
- 9:37Speaker 1: just gonna do whatever and then go back home. But
- 9:39Speaker 1: getting so close to the money, it really started to
- 9:41Speaker 1: make me think, like, oh my god, what would I
- 9:43Speaker 1: do with this money? Like I would do I would
- 9:44Speaker 1: finally start that band that I always wanted to. I
- 9:46Speaker 1: would like do all this stuff for my friends, and
- 9:48Speaker 1: I would do all the stuff for my community. And
- 9:51Speaker 1: getting so close to the money and then losing when
- 9:53Speaker 1: I got out, I was like, well, I don't actually
- 9:55Speaker 1: need all that money to start that stuff, so like
- 9:57Speaker 1: so I did. So when I got out of the show,
- 9:58Speaker 1: I started a band We're called Six Ways to Set
- 10:00Speaker 1: And that's kind of like my main project now and
- 10:02Speaker 1: I'm really stoked on it and I'm definitely you know,
- 10:04Speaker 1: spending a lot more time with friends, and I'm doing
- 10:06Speaker 1: all these things that like I've always like wanted to do,
- 10:07Speaker 1: always said like oh one day, one day, one day.
- 10:09Speaker 1: But now it kind of gave me the energy and
- 10:12Speaker 1: the and the the platform too, yeah, and the push
- 10:14Speaker 1: to be able to pursue a lot of that stuff.
- 10:16Speaker 3: What are you doing any acting? Have you gotten any
- 10:18Speaker 3: jobs since?
- 10:20Speaker 4: Uh?
- 10:20Speaker 1: Not yet? It has been slim pickins. I'm not gonna lie,
- 10:23Speaker 1: but I am looking. So if anyone's out there and hiring,
- 10:26Speaker 1: I'm looking, uh because yeah, because it is something that
- 10:29Speaker 1: like I always wanted to do, but I was always like, oh,
- 10:31Speaker 1: it's going to be too hard, it's gonna I could
- 10:32Speaker 1: spend years and decades, you know, in this industry and
- 10:35Speaker 1: not really make it anywhere. But this show really did
- 10:37Speaker 1: give me a significant push that I really want to
- 10:39Speaker 1: try to capitalize on. So I am looking for acting gigs,
- 10:41Speaker 1: I'm doing music stuff, and so it's all kind of
- 10:43Speaker 1: coming together.
- 10:44Speaker 4: You know, what, if you do what you love, if
- 10:48Speaker 4: you could say that, if you could say that you
- 10:49Speaker 4: would you love doing every day that you'll never work.
- 10:52Speaker 3: A day in your life. And that's the truth.
- 10:54Speaker 4: And also you want to be able to monetize it obviously, right,
- 10:58Speaker 4: but you know, of course being a musician or being
- 11:01Speaker 4: you know, an actor. Of course there's not not everybody's
- 11:05Speaker 4: going to be at a list of level.
- 11:07Speaker 3: So, but there are there are a lot of people
- 11:09Speaker 3: who are.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Working, working actors. I'm a friends with a few of them.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Kouncer and not Ducci who also helps me co host
- 11:14Speaker 4: this show. She's a prime example. She's not you know,
- 11:20Speaker 4: let's say, I don't want to say an A list
- 11:21Speaker 4: or I think she's an A lister, but you know,
- 11:23Speaker 4: she's not where she's making fifty million dollars a project,
- 11:27Speaker 4: but she does make a living out of it and
- 11:29Speaker 4: she does what she loves.
- 11:30Speaker 3: So if you do, there are abilities for that to happen.
- 11:34Speaker 3: So just keep pushing.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it's all. Keep just trying to enjoy this life.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Do good stuff, do cool stuff, and make some friends
- 11:40Speaker 1: along the way. And how old you I'm twenty nine.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Oh you're still a baby.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a little Any any relationships in the.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Horizon, No, I am currently single. I am looking though,
- 11:50Speaker 1: So if there's any ladies out there are in need
- 11:53Speaker 1: of something, you know, a little loving let me.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Know, do you want to meet married with kids one day?
- 11:59Speaker 1: No? Kids, I don't think so.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I could see it be it's such a
- 12:03Speaker 3: great day.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I think I would be really good at it. But
- 12:05Speaker 1: I honestly just want to be I'm very much about
- 12:08Speaker 1: like freedom, Like I want to be free to do
- 12:10Speaker 1: whatever at any time, you know, give me a random
- 12:12Speaker 1: call in the middle of the night. Oh let's go
- 12:13Speaker 1: do this, Okay. You know, I don't want to have
- 12:14Speaker 1: to worry about being tied down anything specific. So I
- 12:17Speaker 1: definitely don't think kids. But I think i'd like to
- 12:19Speaker 1: get married someday. You know, I'm a big lover, I'm
- 12:21Speaker 1: a big romantic, I'm a big you know, stuff like that.
- 12:23Speaker 1: So I'm very sappy kind.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Of Yeah, I can see that, but you know, you
- 12:27Speaker 4: might change your mind. You're still young, you're still thirty. Yeah,
- 12:31Speaker 4: and you know guys can have kids up until in there,
- 12:33Speaker 4: you know.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Not mean Actually I got to resect me when I
- 12:35Speaker 1: was twenty three, so yeah, no.
- 12:41Speaker 3: No, what pushed you to do that? What made you
- 12:45Speaker 3: do that?
- 12:46Speaker 4: Well?
- 12:46Speaker 1: I mean I just like I looked at all the
- 12:47Speaker 1: different like possibilities for my future, and like what I wanted,
- 12:50Speaker 1: what I wanted out of life, what I wanted out
- 12:52Speaker 1: of love stuff like that, and just like kids just
- 12:53Speaker 1: like never really fit in the picture. And I'm gonna
- 12:55Speaker 1: be so honest. I used to be a teacher, and
- 12:57Speaker 1: so for many years I feel like I got my
- 12:59Speaker 1: fill of like kids, Like I love kids. I love
- 13:01Speaker 1: working with kids. It's so much fun. Like when I
- 13:03Speaker 1: was teaching, like with some of the most fun I've
- 13:04Speaker 1: ever had. But in my house, I'd rather not.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know what, everybody, you know what, but
- 13:11Speaker 4: it's it's tweeches on, you know.
- 13:14Speaker 3: And you are around a lot of kids when you
- 13:17Speaker 3: were teaching.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Did you teach fifth grade?
- 13:19Speaker 3: Oh boy?
- 13:20Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, they're fun. They're they're super excited. It's fun
- 13:23Speaker 1: to see like spark yeah no, literally yeah, but they're
- 13:26Speaker 1: they're a riot. They're a lot of fun.
- 13:28Speaker 4: That's when the whole moones start changing, it exactly, That's
- 13:31Speaker 4: where it goes that the fifth, sixth, and seventh is
- 13:34Speaker 4: when they're starting to change.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Do you miss it?
- 13:38Speaker 1: I honestly do. I miss working with kids. I miss
- 13:40Speaker 1: the energy of it all because they're just so fun.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Like literally any second could be like a really funny
- 13:45Speaker 1: experience or like a really like whatever. But it also
- 13:47Speaker 1: kind of contributed to me getting burnt out pretty fast
- 13:49Speaker 1: because like it is like a twenty four hour job,
- 13:51Speaker 1: Like you've got to stay on your toes the entire time.
- 13:52Speaker 1: You always got to be watching because if you turn
- 13:54Speaker 1: around for one second, they'll explode or do something crazy.
- 13:58Speaker 1: But I do miss the energy because they're they're just
- 14:00Speaker 1: much fun.
- 14:02Speaker 3: What did you so now?
- 14:03Speaker 4: Besides doing your bands, are you doing anything else?
- 14:07Speaker 3: Is there any like businesses on the horizon?
- 14:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm mainly just doing music and acting right now
- 14:12Speaker 1: and just kind of using this quid game to kind
- 14:13Speaker 1: of capitalize on all that kind of stuff and finally
- 14:15Speaker 1: have a platform to be able to push all my stuff.
- 14:17Speaker 1: But the music is the main thing that I'm into
- 14:19Speaker 1: right now.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Are you playing anywhere?
- 14:21Speaker 1: Yeah, we're playing all around. We actually have a show
- 14:23Speaker 1: on December seventh at the Delancey in Manhattan, so if
- 14:25Speaker 1: anybody's around, come by. It'll be a good time. Seven
- 14:30Speaker 1: thirty I think. Don't quote me on it, but it's
- 14:31Speaker 1: on our social media and.
- 14:33Speaker 3: We'll we'll get that to we'll get to that at
- 14:35Speaker 3: the end of the interview. We'll get to all your information.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Do you feel like that, Now that you've done the
- 14:41Speaker 4: reality shows, do you feel like, is that where do
- 14:44Speaker 4: you still want to maybe go on a reality show
- 14:46Speaker 4: again or just want to geared towards the acting.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I think my skill set is a little bit
- 14:50Speaker 1: more leaning towards acting, because like the reality show was fun,
- 14:54Speaker 1: but it's it's difficult. First of all, it's difficult to
- 14:56Speaker 1: make money on reality TV because unless you're like an
- 14:58Speaker 1: influencer or something like that. And I try I do
- 15:00Speaker 1: in the influencer thing for like a few months after
- 15:02Speaker 1: Squid Game and it's just like it burned me out
- 15:03Speaker 1: really fast. I was like, I don't want to have
- 15:05Speaker 1: to like stay on my phone all day and like
- 15:06Speaker 1: do all that kind of stuff. So I'm definitely a
- 15:08Speaker 1: little bit of geared more towards like hosting, like you know,
- 15:10Speaker 1: stuff like this. Yeah, like hosting or acting stuff like
- 15:13Speaker 1: that is definitely a little bit more for my skill set.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And honestly, like squid Game was fun, but it was
- 15:17Speaker 1: really stressful, like just being in there, like constantly being
- 15:20Speaker 1: under so much pressure, like having to like watch like
- 15:22Speaker 1: my social interactions and you know, like not be fed
- 15:26Speaker 1: in the way that I wanted to be and stuff
- 15:27Speaker 1: like that was definitely very taxing, so I wouldn't like
- 15:30Speaker 1: rush back into it. But the food was the food
- 15:33Speaker 1: was atrocious.
- 15:35Speaker 3: You why were they doing that?
- 15:36Speaker 1: It was horrible? I mean so so I think it
- 15:38Speaker 1: was part of the experience was to be like, you know,
- 15:40Speaker 1: tortured and be like, oh, like you know, we're gonna
- 15:42Speaker 1: be you know, underfed and like stuff like that. But
- 15:45Speaker 1: the food that they would feed us, it was like
- 15:46Speaker 1: some of the most gross stuff I've ever had. It
- 15:48Speaker 1: was like unsalted, unseasoned. There was like it was like
- 15:50Speaker 1: plain rice with like boiled chicken on some days or
- 15:53Speaker 1: like for breakfast, they would feed us this this flavorless oatmeal.
- 15:57Speaker 1: It tasted like tree sap, like it was disgusting, like
- 16:00Speaker 1: some of the worst we would've ever had in my
- 16:01Speaker 1: entire life. But it really made me appreciate the finer
- 16:04Speaker 1: things like assaults and seasoning and things like that exactly. Yeah,
- 16:09Speaker 1: what I would give.
- 16:12Speaker 4: And so it's funny because I would want when you
- 16:16Speaker 4: watch the Squid Games, you know, when you watch it,
- 16:18Speaker 4: comparing it to you know, the original show they did,
- 16:23Speaker 4: they did whisper a lot of the things that went on,
- 16:26Speaker 4: I mean, obviously not the Murda, but you know, it
- 16:29Speaker 4: was but.
- 16:29Speaker 3: I was expecting.
- 16:30Speaker 4: I was expecting that when I when the second season came,
- 16:33Speaker 4: and that's what I was expecting. I was expecting, like
- 16:35Speaker 4: to see what was going to happen now after that,
- 16:37Speaker 4: and then it became this challenge which was cool, which
- 16:41Speaker 4: I thought was really cool and I liked and I
- 16:43Speaker 4: liked the concept of it.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Now was anybody this wasn't connected.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Directly to the show though, right, They got the kind
- 16:49Speaker 4: of well, yeah, to use the name the Squid Games.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it was kind of like a spinoff I think,
- 16:54Speaker 1: just to kind of by the time before season two
- 16:55Speaker 1: of the original show, which actually is Premierre in December.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Yeah, finally, yeah, but so they kind of they had
- 17:04Speaker 4: this idea to this, and you guys film not filmed
- 17:07Speaker 4: in London, right London.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I was in partnership with Studio Lambert, which is
- 17:10Speaker 1: a British production company.
- 17:11Speaker 3: But that was great. At least you got to go
- 17:13Speaker 3: to England.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Yeah. Did you get to see I know, yeah, I
- 17:15Speaker 1: didn't get to see much of it. Yeah. I will
- 17:17Speaker 1: say though, like they would okay, like like towards the end,
- 17:19Speaker 1: they would start bringing me like outside for like a
- 17:21Speaker 1: few moments just to like kind of soak up a
- 17:23Speaker 1: little bit of sun. But it was London in the
- 17:24Speaker 1: middle of the winter, so there was no sun, and
- 17:26Speaker 1: and they wanted to keep us. They didn't want any
- 17:28Speaker 1: paparazzi or anybody finding us, and so they would keep
- 17:30Speaker 1: us in this like gated like parking lot or whatever.
- 17:32Speaker 1: But across the way you could see this like wharf
- 17:34Speaker 1: that was just like really disgusting and just had like
- 17:37Speaker 1: mud and like dead plants and stuff. And I remember
- 17:39Speaker 1: seeing a bird in the sky over that and thinking
- 17:41Speaker 1: and like after like weeks of not seeing the sun,
- 17:43Speaker 1: and I was like nature is so beautiful, Like we
- 17:45Speaker 1: need to do more for this planet, Like we really
- 17:47Speaker 1: take it for granted. Like so it really made me
- 17:50Speaker 1: like think, you.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Know, so you got so you got definitely now appreciate food. Yeah,
- 17:55Speaker 4: I definitely appreciate the sun.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I definitely appreciate hate the platt absolutely.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:01Speaker 3: So it but still sounds like it was a fun experience.
- 18:04Speaker 3: It was.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Yeah, overall, it was an awesome experience. I'm definitely glad
- 18:06Speaker 1: that I did it. Honestly, the biggest thing for me
- 18:08Speaker 1: was just the friendships that I made. It definitely, you know,
- 18:10Speaker 1: bonded me to a lot of different people that I
- 18:12Speaker 1: probably wouldn't have otherwise met, which was really awesome. It
- 18:15Speaker 1: gave me a platform to be able to promote my
- 18:16Speaker 1: music and stuff like that. So overall, a very exciting experience.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Maybe they'll get you on the real Squid Game as
- 18:21Speaker 3: like the scripted series.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Listen, I mean, I'm down to go to Korea and
- 18:24Speaker 1: film some stuff. You guys want, Netflix, I'm here, And
- 18:29Speaker 1: it was.
- 18:29Speaker 3: That was also so it was also a Netflix show,
- 18:31Speaker 3: the Challenge, I mean it was the Challenge, I'm saying
- 18:33Speaker 3: the Challenge, the Squid Game Challenge. But and it had
- 18:39Speaker 3: what was it ten episodes?
- 18:40Speaker 1: Uh yeah, yeah, eight to ten episodes, I think. Yeah,
- 18:43Speaker 1: I haven't seen it since it first came out, from
- 18:45Speaker 1: being honest.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Did everybody in your family watch it?
- 18:48Speaker 1: I did? Yeah. I did a little watch party with
- 18:50Speaker 1: my family and with my friends and stuff. I got
- 18:51Speaker 1: to take my dad to the big premiere that they
- 18:53Speaker 1: had in New York for the final episode, which was
- 18:55Speaker 1: really fun.
- 18:56Speaker 4: So yeah, Anime and the lady with how Sun on
- 19:00Speaker 4: right my my wife?
- 19:02Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, she's good. But we're still friends. We're
- 19:04Speaker 1: hanging out. She's actually working on her own show, mother
- 19:06Speaker 1: My if you guys want to check it out. It's
- 19:08Speaker 1: very exciting. It's a road show, uh slash charity sort
- 19:12Speaker 1: of thing. And she actually me and her wrote the
- 19:14Speaker 1: theme song of it together, which is really fun. Yeah,
- 19:16Speaker 1: and what's what.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Where is that going to be aired? On?
- 19:20Speaker 1: Good question?
- 19:20Speaker 3: We still yeah, so she's kind of just filming it.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, but the website is up and the theme
- 19:25Speaker 1: song is up.
- 19:26Speaker 3: So and you wrote it?
- 19:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we wrote it together. Actually came to my
- 19:29Speaker 1: house and in my little like studio basement thing that
- 19:31Speaker 1: I also live in, and uh, and we wrote the
- 19:34Speaker 1: song together and produced it. It was really fun.
- 19:37Speaker 3: She's a nice lady. I met her.
- 19:38Speaker 4: I only met her for a couple of minutes at
- 19:40Speaker 4: the at the party and where we met, but I
- 19:44Speaker 4: was so I told it.
- 19:44Speaker 3: To I like to get her on the show as well.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Yeah, she's really fun.
- 19:47Speaker 3: She's a fun lady, right, and she's close with her son.
- 19:51Speaker 1: That's that's Leanne was close with her.
- 19:53Speaker 3: So I'm sorry, ye was Leanne.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Mine's got a big old family to her husband, Jay
- 19:57Speaker 1: is awesome. You know, she's got kids, so she's got
- 19:59Speaker 1: the whole, the whole she bang.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Absolutely she won. I mean, now, I mean, have anybody
- 20:04Speaker 3: to lose to the parson.
- 20:05Speaker 1: For you to Yeah, no, honestly, And that honestly made
- 20:07Speaker 1: me feel better about the entire thing too, because like,
- 20:09Speaker 1: for the most part, like ninety nine percent of the
- 20:11Speaker 1: people in there were so sweet, so genuine, so good
- 20:14Speaker 1: and so like looking around, I was like, you know,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I really think any of us could win in here,
- 20:17Speaker 1: and I would be okay with it because I think
- 20:18Speaker 1: everybody's going to do good by the money. I know
- 20:20Speaker 1: for certain is going to do good by the money,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and so I'm not I'm not bitter about it in anyway.
- 20:24Speaker 1: For sure.
- 20:24Speaker 4: There wasn't any ass assholes in that you that you
- 20:27Speaker 4: could say because there was some drama.
- 20:30Speaker 1: There was a little bit of drama, I will say, though,
- 20:32Speaker 1: I think like we were getting along so well that
- 20:35Speaker 1: a lot of that drama they really had to like
- 20:37Speaker 1: hush up a little bit, like like for example, like
- 20:39Speaker 1: Ashley on the bridge, like that was like so like
- 20:41Speaker 1: that wasn't at all what they made it seem like
- 20:43Speaker 1: on TV. Like we were all we were all friends,
- 20:47Speaker 1: you know, we were all hanging out, we were all
- 20:48Speaker 1: doing the same thing. But I think I think some
- 20:49Speaker 1: people just got a little stressed out when it came
- 20:51Speaker 1: time to make these sort of big decisions that that
- 20:54Speaker 1: could end up in elimination, and so they would catch
- 20:56Speaker 1: like that one moment where you slip and then you
- 20:58Speaker 1: say something bad, and then they would just make the
- 21:00Speaker 1: whole episode around.
- 21:01Speaker 4: That's that's the job they need to sell the show.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's reality TV. You know, that's what we
- 21:06Speaker 1: signed up for. I guess I am.
- 21:08Speaker 3: I know reality TV. I've been on a couple of shows.
- 21:11Speaker 4: Yes, a lot of it is, a lot of it
- 21:13Speaker 4: is scripted, a lot of it is impromptu, and a
- 21:15Speaker 4: lot of it.
- 21:16Speaker 3: You know, they want the drama. That's what that's what
- 21:18Speaker 3: people are going to watch.
- 21:20Speaker 4: But I just feel like lately that the reality shows
- 21:23Speaker 4: are becoming too negative. Like the show is fun to watch,
- 21:27Speaker 4: you know, it's more fun because it's something interesting. But
- 21:30Speaker 4: I just feel like lately, in the last probably the
- 21:32Speaker 4: last five years, it's they've become so negative that I.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Don't even want to watch them anymore.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Like you used to watch them to have like stuff
- 21:39Speaker 4: mindless and fun and just like, you know, let me
- 21:42Speaker 4: just watch something that I really don't have to think
- 21:44Speaker 4: too much about, you know, and just watching somebody else's
- 21:48Speaker 4: life at this point. But I just feel like that
- 21:50Speaker 4: they've a lot of them are so negative now, you know,
- 21:54Speaker 4: they need to they need to turn it back and
- 21:56Speaker 4: start getting some fun shows on again.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Exactly show the good side is, you know, because people
- 22:01Speaker 1: can be nice, people can be fun. You know, you
- 22:02Speaker 1: don't have to stick them in these super stressful situations,
- 22:04Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And even like on my show,
- 22:06Speaker 1: like we were all getting along so well, Like I
- 22:08Speaker 1: cannot emphasize like how close we were and how great
- 22:10Speaker 1: of a time it was just to meet all these
- 22:12Speaker 1: awesome people and get to hang out and have fun,
- 22:13Speaker 1: and a lot of the times on my show, I
- 22:15Speaker 1: think because there were so many contestants, it really felt
- 22:18Speaker 1: like it was awesome versus the game instead of like
- 22:19Speaker 1: os versus each other, and so that just made it
- 22:21Speaker 1: so much nicer. So we were able to get along,
- 22:23Speaker 1: we were able to make equitable decisions when we could,
- 22:26Speaker 1: and stuff like that. And I think they shied a
- 22:27Speaker 1: little bit away from it in the final edit, but
- 22:30Speaker 1: that's honestly a huge takeaway for me, Like it really
- 22:32Speaker 1: gave me, you know, hope for humanity that you know,
- 22:34Speaker 1: people are willing to work together if you know, given
- 22:36Speaker 1: the proper like you know, the channels to do.
- 22:39Speaker 4: So, you know what, they were all out There are
- 22:42Speaker 4: a lot of good people in this world. Just when
- 22:44Speaker 4: you think you want to just you know, you want
- 22:46Speaker 4: to turn your back on humanity, they they surprised you.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Well, it sound a really good experience, I did.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Yeah, fine, and so I I think that you're probably
- 22:56Speaker 4: going to go on to do some spectacular things.
- 22:59Speaker 3: And you are well and you know, and you have
- 23:01Speaker 3: a good soul, you got a good energy. So that's good.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Thank you. Yeah. I just like to have fun wherever
- 23:05Speaker 1: I go. That's my main thing, and that's important.
- 23:07Speaker 4: It's important to keep it light and keep it you know,
- 23:09Speaker 4: you know what, any day above grounds a.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Good day, exactly right, and I.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Always appreciate it.
- 23:15Speaker 4: So let everybody know where to find you. Fill on
- 23:18Speaker 4: your social media and when your next gig is.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Yeah. So my social medias are all at Avatar Phil
- 23:24Speaker 1: I'm a huge Avatar the Last Airbender fan, and my
- 23:26Speaker 1: band is called Six Ways to Saturday. We're also on
- 23:28Speaker 1: every major social media. We're on Spotify, Apple Music, check
- 23:31Speaker 1: us out. We will be at the Delancey in Manhattan
- 23:33Speaker 1: on December seventh. That's going to be our next big show,
- 23:35Speaker 1: so stay tuned. It's going to be fun. And our
- 23:37Speaker 1: new EP, So Much for Forever is out now, so
- 23:39Speaker 1: check us out.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Well. I will definitely be at your show. I hope
- 23:42Speaker 3: I get it. I hope I get invited.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure, you get a special guest pass.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I'll be in the front.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Yeah, my, my, my, my, Actually my fiance is a
- 23:52Speaker 4: drama too.
- 23:53Speaker 1: So oh I'm exciting. Yes.
- 23:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a lot of a lot of branch, a
- 23:57Speaker 4: lot of I love that. I've just not doing that
- 23:59Speaker 4: again that I still love to do and I want
- 24:01Speaker 4: to come to your show.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Well, thank you so much for being on my show today.
- 24:05Speaker 4: It was a great conversation and I hope for you
- 24:07Speaker 4: to come back again.
- 24:09Speaker 3: How things are going.
- 24:10Speaker 1: For you totally? Yeah, thank you so much for having me.
- 24:12Speaker 1: This is super fun.
