- 0:00In the Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2, verse 54, Arjuna asks Sri
- 0:06Krishna how to recognize the enlightened man.
- 0:10Sri Orbindo translates quote. What is the sign of the man in
- 0:15Samati whose intelligence is firmly fixed in wisdom?
- 0:20How does the sage of settled understanding speak?
- 0:23How sit, how walk? End Quote.
- 0:28Sri Arbindo goes on to explain quote Arjuna voicing the average
- 0:34human mind ask for some outward, physical, practically
- 0:39discernible sign of samadhi. No such signs can be given, nor
- 0:45does the teacher attempt to supply them, for the only
- 0:49possible test of its possession is inward, and that there are
- 0:53plenty of hostile psychological forces to apply.
- 0:58Equality is the great stamp of the liberated soul, and of that
- 1:03equality even the most discernible signs are still
- 1:06subjective. End Quote.
- 1:10Reference Bhagavad Gita and its message.
- 1:14In chapter 2, verse 55. Sri Krishna explains further
- 1:19quote When a man expels, O Partha, all desires from the
- 1:25mind and is satisfied in the self by the Self, then is he
- 1:30called stable, an intelligence? End Quote.
- 1:35Sri Orbindo adds quote. The test of samadhi is the
- 1:40expulsion of all desires, their inability to get out the mind,
- 1:46and it is the inner state from which this freedom arises.
- 1:50The delight of the soul gathered within itself, with the mind
- 1:53equal and still and high, poised above the attractions and
- 1:57repulsions, the alternations of sunshine and storm and stress of
- 2:02the external life. It is drawn inward Even when
- 2:06acting outwardly, it is concentrated in self, even when
- 2:11gazing out upon things. It is directed wholly to the
- 2:15Divine, even when to the outward vision of others busy and
- 2:20preoccupied with the affairs of the world.
- 2:24End Quote. This response also relates to
- 2:28the entire life and standpoint of the individual.
- 2:32External actions such as focus on Sutwick diet, moderation in
- 2:37eating, regulation of 1's external activities have their
- 2:42place, but the real test for the seeker is the shift to the inner
- 2:47psychic standpoint and identification with the Divine
- 2:51Presence. To the extent the seeker fixates
- 2:55so much on external details and fails to direct his awareness
- 2:59and energies towards the spiritual realization, he is
- 3:03actually defeating his own purpose.
- 3:07Systematically removing the element of vital desire in all
- 3:10its forms and creating the inner attitude of surrender to the
- 3:14Divine is the one essential thing to be done, Srioro Bindu
- 3:21observes. Quote all these giving up
- 3:25indulgence in food, tea, et cetera are external things that
- 3:30have their use. But what I mean by the complete
- 3:34attitude of the Sadiq is something more inward.
- 3:38I mean not to be interested in outward things for their own
- 3:41sake, following after them with desire, but at all times to be
- 3:47intent on one's soul living centrally in the inner being and
- 3:51its progress, taking outward things in action only as a means
- 3:56for the inner progress. End Quote.
