- 0:32vapor.
- 0:33And we have such encouragement from the truth of scriptures and from the one true living
- 0:39God in his presence in our lives that we can ever a relationship with him.
- 0:43I just, I'm so encouraged.
- 0:45And plus with all the people I get to talk to, including today's guest, you're going
- 0:48to love this.
- 0:49And there's a book, very important book coming out very, very soon in a couple of weeks.
- 0:53But I've got author and pastor Samuel Farag with me.
- 0:57He received a Master of Theological Studies from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
- 1:02and is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity and Empty of Degree.
- 1:07He's an ordained and licensed minister and he serves currently at Bethel, Baptist Church
- 1:12of Gorham, New York.
- 1:14And that's where he comes to us today from, brother, good to see you.
- 1:18Thanks for your time today.
- 1:19Oh, thank you so much for having me.
- 1:21I appreciate it.
- 1:22You're so welcome.
- 1:23How did we connected?
- 1:25I believe it was Jan Niza.
- 1:28Was she the troublemaker that God has connected?
- 1:32Yes, yes, definitely.
- 1:34She's a dear friend.
- 1:35I love her.
- 1:36She's been on with us for years and I've got to have her back by the way.
- 1:39But anyway, you've got a very important book out.
- 1:41We're going to talk about your story because you used to be in the Eastern Orthodox Church
- 1:46years ago.
- 1:47I think you said Oriental, but I'll let you explain the difference there.
- 1:52I want to mention your book because when this podcast is released, we're recording this
- 1:56a little bit earlier, the book is going to be out because this is going to come out early
- 2:01June.
- 2:02So the book is out right now.
- 2:03I want to make sure people know that they can go get this book on Eastern Orthodoxy
- 2:09through the lens of solar scriptura, Eastern Orthodoxy.
- 2:15The website is freegracepress.com, that's the publisher, freegracepress.com.
- 2:22And Sam's website is expositingtheword.org, expositingtheword.org, you can find them over on YouTube
- 2:31as well.
- 2:32You can find them on Facebook, expositing the word ministries.
- 2:37And brother, let's just talk about your story because a lot of people write pastors,
- 2:43authors, Christians.
- 2:44We write about different religions or cults or different things that maybe there's a
- 2:49fascination about or that we were once involved in.
- 2:53So talk to us about your background in the Eastern Orthodox Church and then we'll start
- 2:58talking about doctrines and things that they believe that I think the body of Christ needs
- 3:02to understand.
- 3:03Absolutely.
- 3:04So, I spent the first 32 years of my life in the Oriental Orthodox Church, specifically
- 3:10the Coptic Orthodox Church.
- 3:13And so some people are saying, okay, Oriental Coptic Orthodox Church, what's the difference
- 3:16between that and say Eastern Orthodoxy?
- 3:19So they have a big difference where they had a disagreement at the fourth ecumenical
- 3:23council and the way that they saw Jesus' will.
- 3:27So the Orientals will say that since Jesus is one person, he has one will.
- 3:32Whereas the Eastern Orthodox will say, well, he is divine and he's human, so therefore
- 3:37he has two wills.
- 3:38So because of that disagreement, there was a disagreement at the fourth ecumenical
- 3:42council.
- 3:43So therefore, the Oriental Orthodox Churches, they believe in the first three ecumenical
- 3:47councils, whereas the Eastern Orthodox Church believes in the seven ecumenical councils.
- 3:53And for them, this is the key part, they see those ecumenical councils as just as inspired
- 3:59as the word of God.
- 4:00So this is very important to them.
- 4:02And because of this difference, they are actually separated even though their practices
- 4:07are virtually the same.
- 4:09If you walk into an Oriental or an Eastern Orthodox Church, it's very much the same.
- 4:13So grew up Oriental, but I did have friends who are very close family friends who were
- 4:18Eastern Orthodox.
- 4:19So used to attend the liturgy of them all the time and my brother actually converted
- 4:23from the Oriental Orthodox Church to the Eastern Orthodox Church.
- 4:26So I do have a lot of personal experience, plus that's where my research mostly focuses
- 4:31on is the Eastern Orthodox Church.
- 4:33And the reason that this is so important at this time is that so many people are converting
- 4:37into the Eastern Orthodox Church, especially after COVID.
- 4:42And we want to really make sure that we're clear, what does the Eastern Orthodox Church
- 4:45teach?
- 4:46This is not just our brothers and sisters in Christ in the East, they actually teach a different
- 4:51gospel.
- 4:52Yeah.
- 4:53Well, let's start there.
- 4:54That's chapter one in your book, The False Gospel of the Eastern Orthodox Church.
- 4:58You nailed it right out of the gate.
- 4:59So what is this false gospel?
- 5:01Is it their emphasis on works or is it more than that?
- 5:05Yeah, there's a huge emphasis on works and they have a lot of writings and this is an
- 5:10important part to know about the Eastern Orthodox Church.
- 5:13They believe that they themselves as a church are infallible, that they cannot actually even
- 5:19commit an error.
- 5:21So therefore their ecumenical councils are considered just like scripture, any confessions
- 5:26that they come out with, any official statements that they come out with.
- 5:30Those are considered to have no errors in them whatsoever.
- 5:34And because they view themselves in that manner, there's a document called the Confession
- 5:38of the Scythias, which I recommend people to read through.
- 5:42In that document, they even say that our good works, they are considered meriting.
- 5:48They merit our salvation.
- 5:49They even use that language.
- 5:51So it is important to realize that this is a works-based system.
- 5:55And on top of that, they also add requirements to the scripture, requirements to the gospel
- 6:01that they see as infallible requirements that are also considered mandatory.
- 6:07So one of the biggest ones to point out at the seventh ecumenical council, the way that
- 6:12they talk about icons is not just that they practice icons or that it's permissible
- 6:18to practice icon veneration, which consists of kissing the icon, bowing down to the icon,
- 6:23offering incense to the icon.
- 6:26In addition to that practice in them saying that it's okay to do, they actually say it's
- 6:30mandatory to do, that if you're not participating in icon veneration, you don't love icon veneration.
- 6:37You are actually under anathema, which anathema means you're cursed by God to hell unless you
- 6:43repent.
- 6:44But for them, in order to repent, one must join their church.
- 6:47Because again, they see themselves, well, they'll actually describe themselves as the
- 6:50arc of salvation, that unless you're in their church, you are under the God's wrath
- 6:56and the floodwaters.
- 6:58So when you see what they actually teach, you realize that they're adding to the gospel
- 7:02message, which is what Paul specifically warned us against in Galatians, that if anyone
- 7:07adds anything to scripture and the Judaizers, again, they would be considered trinitarian,
- 7:12they would agree with what Paul was saying, except they added certain requirements like
- 7:16circumcision as mandatory.
- 7:18And Paul said, even that slight change is not just a slight change.
- 7:22It actually completely makes void, though the actual gospel message.
- 7:26And that's what we see with the Eastern Orthodox Church.
- 7:29Okay.
- 7:30I'm glad you explained that, but I need to dig down a little bit deeper on the idea of
- 7:35icon veneration.
- 7:37With all the scriptures throughout the Bible, warning about idolatry.
- 7:44Isn't that idolatry what they're teaching or what they're saying is mandatory?
- 7:51Absolutely.
- 7:52So we can look at scriptures themselves, and it's very clear that we're not supposed
- 7:56to participate in any type of cultic veneration of images.
- 8:00Now, there could be a discussion on whether using images is permissible or not, but the
- 8:05actual cultic use, you know, the bowing down and serving the image, the kissing it, that
- 8:10is very clear in scripture that we are not supposed to do this at all.
- 8:14In fact, even if you look at church history, all of the early fathers, anytime they ever
- 8:19spoke of any type of veneration to an image, they always condemned it.
- 8:23It was actually unanimous.
- 8:24And it wasn't until much later in church history.
- 8:27So how did we get to this state?
- 8:29This is why looking at church history is very helpful in this area.
- 8:33So you look at emperor Constantine.
- 8:35And when he became emperor, he had the edict of Milan, and he made Christianity legal, but
- 8:41not only did he make it legal, he also made it very popular.
- 8:44So a lot of people became Christian in order to have political positions.
- 8:48And then along came emperor Theodosis.
- 8:50And with his edict of Thessalonica, he actually made Christianity mandatory.
- 8:55So now in order to be part of the empire, you had to be Christian.
- 8:59So what that resulted in is what's called nominal Christianity, those who became Christian
- 9:03by name alone.
- 9:04And what happened then is you took these people who had pagan backgrounds, who loved their
- 9:09pagan religions, but only became Christian by name alone, they started to Christianize
- 9:13some of their pagan practices.
- 9:15So when you look at the practice of idol worship, I like to use Zeus as an example, you had
- 9:20a statue of Zeus.
- 9:22And that statue, they didn't see Zeus residing within the statue.
- 9:25They saw that Zeus resided in Mount Olympus, but they saw this statue as a window that they
- 9:30communicated through to get to Zeus.
- 9:33So icons, if you actually see how the Eastern Orthodox Church teaches their doctrine of
- 9:38icon veneration, they see those images as windows to who is represented in that image.
- 9:45So you see that as a very dangerous practice, but you see that it actually has pagan origins.
- 9:50It's not Christian at all.
- 9:51Wow.
- 9:52Wow.
- 9:53This is so concerning because you said earlier since COVID, and I think, I mean, a lot
- 9:59of people went different directions because of all the video content and everything online.
- 10:03So Sam, what's the attraction, then, to maybe someone who grew up in America?
- 10:09This is our context here in America.
- 10:13The American Church is not too deep, doctrinally, too mature, but there are some great churches,
- 10:19great men and women have got across the country.
- 10:22I like to refer to them as maybe the remnant, but more people are susceptible to these
- 10:28lies.
- 10:29What is the attraction to the Orthodox Church, do you think?
- 10:32Is it reverence?
- 10:33Is it some of what you're describing?
- 10:36What is the attraction for some people, do you think?
- 10:38Yeah.
- 10:39Well, if we look on our society, we see how liberal and progressive and the woke movement
- 10:45that we see in our society.
- 10:46So people wanted something that seemed like it was unchanging.
- 10:50And when it comes to the Eastern Orthodox Church, that's the sales pitch that they deliver.
- 10:53Oh, we're unchanging.
- 10:54Since the time of Christ, we've never changed at all.
- 10:58Now, if you actually looked at church history, you realize there's been many accretions
- 11:02over time.
- 11:03That this is not the practice of the apostles, though that's what they're going to say.
- 11:07We have the same teaching as the apostles, and we've never changed.
- 11:11And where have we heard that before?
- 11:13Look at the Pharisees.
- 11:14We have the teachings of Moses, and we've never changed, but Christ rebuked them and said,
- 11:19instead, we're supposed to follow what the Word of God says, because all your additions
- 11:22that you've added to the true message has actually made void the Word of God.
- 11:26Because they're not just adding doctrine, they're elevating it above God's Word.
- 11:31But for those who want something that seems to be unchanging, Eastern Orthodoxy seems to
- 11:36be very appealing.
- 11:37They also saw the reverence in their building and their design.
- 11:41This seemed like something beautiful to them, something that seems apostolic.
- 11:44But again, we see that those were additions added in.
- 11:47And what you see is you had people who had an experience go to another experience.
- 11:53For example, you have certain churches that have the fog machines and the TED talks and
- 11:58all the different, you know, experience, the concert like experience, and certain people
- 12:02were turned off from that.
- 12:03But then they go to another experience.
- 12:05Now you have the incense.
- 12:07Now you have the ancient hymns.
- 12:09Now you have all the icons and all the imagery.
- 12:11So it's going from one experience to another experience.
- 12:15But what's missing in it all is the actual strength and truth of the Word of God.
- 12:22Fascinating explanation.
- 12:24That makes sense to me.
- 12:26Because a lot of people that are wanting more and maybe seeking something more spiritual
- 12:32or about God, they go to some of these churches and they're just being entertained.
- 12:37It's not too deep, doctrinally, and like you said, the worship, it's just like a concert
- 12:43and not all churches, but a lot of churches are doing that, trying to attract the world
- 12:47and they're thinking there's got to be more to it than this.
- 12:50So they go the opposite direction and they go back to something so regimented or traditional.
- 12:56And they think that goes all the way back to the early church, but it doesn't technically,
- 13:01if you read how the church started in people's homes.
- 13:04And anyway, so I wanted to clarify something, Sam.
- 13:10So the Orthodox church claims to be the one true church of Christ.
- 13:17And if you go to Russia, if you go to Greece, there's the Greek Orthodox, there's the Russian
- 13:22Orthodox.
- 13:23We're talking about the Eastern Orthodox.
- 13:25So basically whatever state or country you go to, there could be part of the Orthodox
- 13:30church, but they all believe the same thing.
- 13:32Is that correct?
- 13:33Yeah.
- 13:34So they call them like auto syphilist churches.
- 13:36So in the Eastern Orthodox church, there's anywhere from 14 to 17 churches.
- 13:41And the reason why there's not an exact number is because some churches acknowledge other
- 13:45churches and other ones don't.
- 13:48So yes, there's the cultural differences, but when it comes to their actual doctrines,
- 13:54they share it across the board.
- 13:56So they all fall under, so the Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, they all fall under the
- 14:00umbrella of the Eastern Orthodox church.
- 14:03Okay, so I was reading through some of the notes, and again, I want to mention the website
- 14:09expositingtheword.org, expositingtheword.org.
- 14:14The book is out, guys, this is very important.
- 14:17So why?
- 14:18Because they claim to be the one true church.
- 14:21And there are a lot of issues, particularly with the doctrine of justification by faith,
- 14:25which is absent from, I think that there is history and the theology of the church.
- 14:33Do they ever believe anything other than a works righteousness or tradition?
- 14:38Do they believe tradition is just the same?
- 14:41I think I read that somewhere.
- 14:43The equal authority of church tradition and scripture.
- 14:46Can you break those down for us, Sam?
- 14:48Yeah, in fact, what they'll say when it comes to tradition is they actually hold their
- 14:53holy tradition as they'll call it above even scripture itself because what they'll
- 14:56say is that their tradition is what produced the scriptures.
- 15:00So they'll often say when you see a debate with someone who's Eastern Orthodox, they'll
- 15:03say, we gave you the scriptures, which is, again, very similar to the idea of the Pharisees
- 15:12where they saw their tradition of the elders to be the highest authority and dictated
- 15:16how they interpreted the word of God.
- 15:18But we see consistently from Christ that we're supposed to go to the word of God and not
- 15:23to the traditions of men, especially these man-made traditions.
- 15:27In fact, when people have that pushback and they say, look, we gave you the scriptures.
- 15:31Well, who gave us the Old Testament?
- 15:33You know, and that's where there's a problem, but yet Christ used the Old Testament authoritatively.
- 15:38So we know that we can go to scriptures because Christ actually practiced Solascriptura.
- 15:43He showed us that we can use scripture and focus on scripture along.
- 15:46In fact, that's what we see if the Bereans, when Paul and Silas came and they were teaching,
- 15:51the Bereans didn't just take Paul's word for it.
- 15:53They actually look to the scriptures and they were able to take his words and compare it.
- 15:57But if you do the same thing with the Eastern Orthodox Church, in fact, that's what this book does.
- 16:02It lays out their teaching, their official teachings, and then compares it to the word of God.
- 16:07And what you see there is it's not the same thing.
- 16:10So let me just ask you this because I know somebody we talked before we got on the podcast
- 16:15who just converted a couple of years ago, full on into the Eastern Orthodox Church.
- 16:21If I were to buy your book and send it to him, he's relatively new.
- 16:28Now know this is speculation on your part and opening your book, would there be a desire
- 16:33to learn what you're saying, what you're writing about and what you're differentiating?
- 16:39What do you think?
- 16:40Because I really want to send him this.
- 16:42Yeah, if the person is truly seeking for truth, then this is exactly what they would
- 16:46want to see because what I believe in is we're supposed to steal man, not strong man.
- 16:50So when I present the Eastern Orthodox view, this is their official teaching.
- 16:55And when speaking to even their top Eastern Orthodox apologists who are faithful, because
- 16:59a lot of them are not actually being faithful even to the Eastern Orthodox teaching, the
- 17:03one who are faithful to the Eastern Orthodox Church is teaching.
- 17:05They'll say, yes, that's true.
- 17:07We do believe this.
- 17:08So if someone is seeking truth, they'll see, here's what the Eastern Orthodox Church teaches.
- 17:12And then I just lay out scripture and expound upon scripture.
- 17:16And they can have it all in front of them if someone is truly seeking the truth.
- 17:20What I've also encountered, unfortunately, is there are some people who are in this honeymoon
- 17:24period where they love being in the Eastern Orthodox Church and they don't really want
- 17:28to be challenged.
- 17:30And therefore they won't even look at challenges made to the Eastern Orthodox Church,
- 17:35caring to seek truth.
- 17:37And if they are, then this book lays it out for them and really challenged the ideas.
- 17:42Because these are not the things that people who are going through this catacument process
- 17:45are going to encounter.
- 17:47One of the biggest things that you won't see encountered head-on is, for example, the practice
- 17:52of monasticism, which you can develop later on in history, but here's why monasticism
- 17:57is so important.
- 17:58The leaders of the Eastern Orthodox Church, they are the Holy Synod, which is made up
- 18:05of monks.
- 18:06So they are the ones who come out with these confessions, they're the ones who make decisions
- 18:10for the church, but there's a book called The Ladder of Divine Ascent.
- 18:13It's considered the highest, most authoritative book in Eastern Orthodoxy for the practice
- 18:18of monks.
- 18:19Within this book, and you can read the book yourself and look at the context for it,
- 18:23it talks about monks abusing other monks, will verbally and physically.
- 18:27It talks about beating their chest to the point that they're spitting out blood, smashing
- 18:31their heads on the ground in the most shocking statement that some monks even pray to be
- 18:36possessed by demons.
- 18:39There's no way to explain this.
- 18:40And I've seen people try to, they'll try to explain, well, this is an extreme form
- 18:44of repentance, and they're thinking that if they just get possessed by demons, but they
- 18:47can avoid hell, then that's a good thing.
- 18:50That's not an explanation.
- 18:51We are never, ever supposed to do that.
- 18:54And if the leaders of the Eastern Orthodox Church, this is what they subscribe to.
- 18:57I mean, they read this book every year during the lentil season, all the monks read this
- 19:02book.
- 19:03This is not what we should be doing.
- 19:04No.
- 19:05That's the way in the recent phenomenal movie, A Great Awakening, the story of a George
- 19:10Whitfield, Benjamin Franklin, and early in American history, what happened with The Great
- 19:16Awakening, Whitfield tried to deprive himself and starve himself.
- 19:21And he was trying to, you know, do that, some of these things you're talking about.
- 19:26And then the great scene in there where he's curled up and yelling, it's not working.
- 19:33It doesn't work.
- 19:34And by the way, Jesus, talking about traditions again, Jesus spoke very harshly to the Pharisees
- 19:40about you're following the traditions of man and not God.
- 19:45But let me go back to something I read over at gotquestions.org.
- 19:50It says the head of each Orthodox church is called a patriarch or metropolitan.
- 19:55The patriarch of Constantinople in Istanbul, Turkey is considered the ecumenical or universal
- 20:02patriarch.
- 20:03And so this is close to like the Pope and the Roman Catholic church, correct?
- 20:08Can you explain that a little bit?
- 20:09How each leader in these, like the Greek or the Russian churches, they have a patriarch.
- 20:15Can you explain the hierarchy?
- 20:17Yeah.
- 20:18So the patriarch is a bishop.
- 20:21So he's a monk too.
- 20:23And that's considered a person who is at the highest level.
- 20:27But they see all the patriarchs as, so for the patriarch of Constantinople, they'll say
- 20:31he's the first among equals.
- 20:33So it's not exactly like the papacy where the Pope is clearly a completely different
- 20:38position than, say, the cardinals of whoever else is under him.
- 20:41So they'll say first among equals, there's a little bit more respect, almost like they
- 20:45would say, Peter was the head of the apostles, you know, even though all the apostles were
- 20:50at the same level or the same office.
- 20:53So that's how they would explain it.
- 20:55Okay.
- 20:56So before we run out of time, I've got to talk about chapters five and six or ask you
- 21:01about that.
- 21:02We talked about idolatry, icon veneration and worshiping icons or idols.
- 21:08Let's explain the Eastern Orthodox church and their relation to, or their doctrine of
- 21:13Maryology.
- 21:14I think a lot of our listeners might go, wait a minute, is that like worshiping Mary?
- 21:19Go ahead.
- 21:20Yeah.
- 21:21So Maryology is the doctrine that one has about Mary.
- 21:24And this is another shocking area.
- 21:26And again, if you remember what we talked about with how icon veneration developed, same
- 21:31thing happened when you had the visible church just infiltrated by those who became Christian
- 21:36by name alone, but had pagan origins.
- 21:39One of the big things you noticed about pagan religions is they had goddesses.
- 21:43Now there's no goddesses in Christianity.
- 21:45So what did they do?
- 21:46They took Mary and they gave her to attributes that should only be to God.
- 21:50Wow.
- 21:51So you have Mary being called a propitiation of her sins that in certain priors, they say
- 21:55that Mary can bring about whatever her will is.
- 21:58So they basically make Mary completely sovereign.
- 22:01You have Gregory of Palamos, who's one of their saints, who talks about Mary in a way where
- 22:06Mary entered the Holy of Holies.
- 22:08And again, we know from scripture that that's only for the high priest, but she entered
- 22:11the Holy of Holies and she gave God the idea of salvation.
- 22:14And they almost make it where Mary is actually more merciful than Christ.
- 22:20They have these owns where there's a sinner praying to Mary who's done communicating with
- 22:26Jesus.
- 22:27And what you see is that Mary in that story is the one who's more compassionate than Christ
- 22:31because at the very end, Christ is like, oh, I don't want to forgive this person.
- 22:34But you know what?
- 22:35For you, Mary, for you mother, I'll do it for you.
- 22:38So they're promoted, they're encouraged to go to Mary because she's seen as more compassionate
- 22:44than Christ.
- 22:45So when you actually look at all the theology they have regarding Mary, it's actually dishonorable.
- 22:50It's not honorable to Mary at all.
- 22:53Okay.
- 22:54So this brings me to another question about what they believe about the possibility of
- 23:00receiving salvation after you die.
- 23:04Is that part of their belief and what about prayers of the dead or prayers for the dead?
- 23:11Tell us about that.
- 23:12Yeah.
- 23:13You'll see within their divine liturgy, their services that they have.
- 23:16They actually pray for those who've passed away because they believe that through the
- 23:20prayers and then they'll even say through Mary's intercession and through the saints'
- 23:24intercession, that these people can actually receive salvation even afterwards.
- 23:30They even have these belief in something called tollhouses now to be clear, not all
- 23:33Eastern Orthodox believe in tollhouses, but about half of them do.
- 23:38And tollhouses is basically like, like, purportary in Roman Catholicism, but you go through
- 23:42all these different stages and you get cleansed and you have certain things forgiven.
- 23:47For them, again, it's a merit-based system.
- 23:49So if you haven't done enough good works, there's still a chance for you in the afterlife
- 23:54that you can still be cleansed, but again, it's due to the power of saints' prayers, the
- 23:58monks' prayers, the Mary's prayers.
- 24:01It's a system completely foreign to anything you'll find in the scriptures.
- 24:04So Sam, how do they align that with the overwhelming amount of scriptures about faith in Jesus,
- 24:12believing in Jesus, believing in your heart, you know, Jesus, accepting Him as Lord, putting
- 24:19your faith in Him, trusting Jesus, that's faith for salvation.
- 24:24There's so many scriptures about that.
- 24:26How do they make sense of that?
- 24:29Yeah.
- 24:30The way that they really look at it is, they'll say, oh, yeah, it's true.
- 24:33You have to have faith in Jesus, but that's not the whole picture.
- 24:36So for them, when they hear the gospel and something else, Jesus isn't exactly.
- 24:41For them, it's not satisfactory.
- 24:43Okay.
- 24:44Wow.
- 24:45That's, that's, that's really sad, but it explains a lot, and I think a lot of faiths
- 24:51struggle with that same thing.
- 24:53They think, well, really, all you got to do is believe in Jesus, it's too simple for
- 24:57them.
- 24:58No, no, I gotta work.
- 24:59Yeah.
- 25:00I gotta do something.
- 25:01I lived a bad life or whatever.
- 25:02I gotta make up for past sins.
- 25:03Well, then what, what did Jesus have to die in the cross for if you have to make up for
- 25:08your sins?
- 25:09Sam, we're down to two minutes, and I did want to ask you about, you might as well
- 25:12talk about the five solas really quick, because that's part of the subtitle on the book.
- 25:18And you can just explain that because the Eastern Orthodox Church do not align with those
- 25:23five solas, correct?
- 25:25Yeah.
- 25:26No, they don't, they don't align with them at all.
- 25:29So when it comes to solar, and that's the heart of it there is that we know that we,
- 25:34the scripture enough lays out for us what it means to be saved.
- 25:38But for them, they, they see, no, it's scripture plus tradition.
- 25:42You know, we see that it's by faith alone, they see that it's by faith and by the works
- 25:46that you do.
- 25:47We see that it's everything that we're supposed to do is for God's glory alone, but they
- 25:51see it's for God's glory plus for Mary and the saints and so forth.
- 25:55So everything in the solas, they always add an additional thing to it and take away
- 26:01from the actual gospel message that we see laid out in scripture.
- 26:05So instead of becoming something that's supposed to be for the glory of God alone, that Christ
- 26:10is the only one who saved us.
- 26:11It's Christ alone.
- 26:12No, they see it as Christ plus the saints plus the church.
- 26:15And ultimately for them, it's solar ecclesia, which is it's for all for the church alone.
- 26:21Okay.
- 26:22Thank you, brother.
- 26:23This went by so fast.
- 26:24There's so much more.
- 26:25That's why I'm definitely going to get a copy of the book and send it to this friend
- 26:28to mind.
- 26:29I was telling you about friends.
- 26:30You can check out Sam's podcast over at expositingtheword.buzzsprout or you can go to just his website

- 26:52to be able to share the truth and know sometimes how to defend our faith and know what others
- 26:56believe so we can share the truth about Jesus Christ.
- 26:59We appreciate all that you do and we'll look forward to hearing from you again in the
- 27:03near future.
