- 2:22Speaker 2: now author Danny Jones is here. Hey, doing my friend,
- 2:25Speaker 2: I'm doing fun well. Welcome, thanks for having me. Happy
- 2:28Speaker 2: twenty twenty six. Are you a give me the idea
- 2:31Speaker 2: you're not a New Year's resolution kind of guy. No, No,
- 2:34Speaker 2: not at all. I mean it's waste of time. Really.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Most people will tell you.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I forgot it.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Well, you were on the show with well, I guess
- 2:41Speaker 2: it was twenty twenty five when you're run because you
- 2:43Speaker 2: are on with this last Monday, so it was till
- 2:44Speaker 2: twenty twenty five. Then do you stay up and watch
- 2:47Speaker 2: the ons the ball drop in New York City?
- 2:50Speaker 4: What do? What?
- 2:51Speaker 2: Did you stay and watch the ball drop in New
- 2:53Speaker 2: York City?
- 2:54Speaker 4: Even know what night it was?
- 2:57Speaker 2: Well? I do you know, because I am a morning person.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I always have been, and.
- 3:01Speaker 4: I get up at two o'clock every morning.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Okay, well you got me beat. I get up at
- 3:05Speaker 2: four thirty or five somewhere between there. But I did
- 3:09Speaker 2: what normally happens in my house. My wife and I
- 3:13Speaker 2: were just kind of you know, watching TV, watch a
- 3:14Speaker 2: little football and whatever. Both went to sleep on the couch,
- 3:18Speaker 2: set the alarm for eleven fifty nine, so the alarm
- 3:21Speaker 2: my phone goes off. We wake up and watch the
- 3:23Speaker 2: ball drop and go, hey, Happy New Year, and then
- 3:26Speaker 2: we go back to sleep.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Whoa, I I'm watching new Steelers now. I was reading
- 3:34Speaker 4: the New York Times. They have a really good sports section.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Steelers have a two point seven one in the Super Bowl.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Right, I didn't. I watched a little of the game
- 3:47Speaker 2: last night, but again past my bedtime. But I did
- 3:49Speaker 2: get up and see the score this morning. Sounds like
- 3:51Speaker 2: it was an exciting game.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Yeah yeah. A couple of missed field goals hurt both teams.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Well, my Cowboys are you know done? I mean they
- 4:01Speaker 2: were done going in. I mean there's no chance for
- 4:04Speaker 2: them to make the playoffs.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Have they won since Jimmy Johnson left?
- 4:08Speaker 2: They won the Super Bowl in the ninety five season
- 4:10Speaker 2: when Barry Switzer was the head coach, but they have
- 4:12Speaker 2: not won a Super Bowl since the ninety five ninety
- 4:16Speaker 2: six Seeds. And I did a little little video on
- 4:19Speaker 2: social media about this the last time the Cowboys won
- 4:22Speaker 2: or even made it to the Super Bowl. I recorded
- 4:25Speaker 2: the game on VHS. Okay, I still have it on VHS,
- 4:29Speaker 2: but have nothing to play it on. Okay, that's how
- 4:31Speaker 2: long ago it was. I was twenty five years old
- 4:37Speaker 2: and now I'm fifty five, so that should tell you
- 4:39Speaker 2: how long it's been. Now. Barry Switzer was the coach then,
- 4:42Speaker 2: and they beat the Steelers in that Super Bowl. But
- 4:46Speaker 2: it's it's rough being a Cowboy fan. Top rated offense
- 4:50Speaker 2: in the league, but the worst rated defense.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Why did Barry leave?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Well, Barry Switzer was kind of an interesting toy as
- 5:00Speaker 2: a head coach anyway. He was with Oklahoma, had some
- 5:03Speaker 2: controversy out there, and you know, it was known for
- 5:05Speaker 2: some recruiting violations and so on and so forth. But
- 5:08Speaker 2: he and Jerry Jones were longtime friends and uh and
- 5:10Speaker 2: they he invited him back to coach a couple of seasons.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Then after that it was parcels and a series of
- 5:15Speaker 2: people after that. Now we got Schottenheimer, which I think
- 5:19Speaker 2: is going to be a good coach. Probably Miss Cowboys
- 5:21Speaker 2: have no defense. I mean, you and I could probably
- 5:23Speaker 2: gain one hundred yards rushing against the Cowboy defense are terrible.
- 5:26Speaker 2: The number one rated offense and the thirty second rated defense.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I mean, you don't win gains that way.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Steelers shall have a quarterback whose beards is the same
- 5:34Speaker 4: color as mine at the girl, are you talking about Aaron?
- 5:39Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers. They can come back next season because he's
- 5:42Speaker 2: signed a one year deal with Pittsburgh, and he indicated
- 5:47Speaker 2: first this is it, I'm done after this season. But
- 5:50Speaker 2: then he said in a press conference last week, Danny,
- 5:52Speaker 2: he just said, well, you know, I'm I'm I'll be
- 5:55Speaker 2: around maybe next year somewhere. And he's only only on
- 5:59Speaker 2: a one year deal of Pittsburgh.
- 6:00Speaker 4: That'd be to coach some one.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, he's not the future. I mean by Church
- 6:04Speaker 2: of the imagination, he's definitely not, especially at his age.
- 6:08Speaker 2: All Right, big question is when when what's the status
- 6:10Speaker 2: of the book? When when we get new books.
- 6:11Speaker 4: In It's very disappointing. I'm looking for any day and
- 6:22Speaker 4: of course I got two places they sell. I got
- 6:26Speaker 4: one vendor won't pay me. I meant to who it
- 6:29Speaker 4: is won't pay me. And but Taylor Books has the
- 6:35Speaker 4: order for anything I can bring down there. And then
- 6:39Speaker 4: there's a place over on the West Side. Most people
- 6:41Speaker 4: don't know. We talked about this last week because we're
- 6:43Speaker 4: called West Virginia Books, and people that know it call
- 6:48Speaker 4: it Bill's Books several on Central Avenue and he's self Books.
- 6:56Speaker 2: So so any day now we could have more books,
- 6:58Speaker 2: is what you're saying. Yeah, yeah, well, I mean people
- 7:01Speaker 2: definitely want them. I mean everybody is I get at
- 7:04Speaker 2: least somebody once at eight or I bump into or
- 7:07Speaker 2: they text me or something sings, Wh's Danny going to
- 7:09Speaker 2: get more books? Yeah, but you'll you'll let us know
- 7:11Speaker 2: so we can put it out there.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Now you can buy you can buy them on Amazon.
- 7:17Speaker 4: You can buy them, and you can't buy hardback. You
- 7:21Speaker 4: can buy hardback on Barnes and Noble, but it's forty
- 7:27Speaker 4: five dollars.
- 7:27Speaker 2: But now you said that the that the paperback books,
- 7:30Speaker 2: that the paperback books actually look good.
- 7:32Speaker 4: And they're not bad. I mean I've got one at
- 7:34Speaker 4: home and they are not bad. At all So that's
- 7:39Speaker 4: you can buy those online for about thirty bucks.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Right, So talking to Danny Jones. All right, So over
- 7:46Speaker 2: the weekend, overnight Friday to the exact, US forces went
- 7:49Speaker 2: into Venezuela and capture President Nicholas Maduro and his wife.
- 7:52Speaker 2: He was taken from his jail cell in New York
- 7:55Speaker 2: to a courtroom. This morning. I saw the video. Matter
- 7:58Speaker 2: of fact, I even shared it on my social medium,
- 8:00Speaker 2: the radio pages of of him being he's in the
- 8:04Speaker 2: same jail that is also in the past house. Did
- 8:07Speaker 2: he comb Seawan? Did he colmbs and and and some
- 8:10Speaker 2: other people. You're we'll start from the broad picture of
- 8:14Speaker 2: this thing that happened, uh, and then kind of break
- 8:16Speaker 2: it down a little bit overall your your view of
- 8:18Speaker 2: what happened within.
- 8:19Speaker 4: At my door number one, I would I would advise
- 8:23Speaker 4: people to read the indictment because it's it's damning, damn
- 8:29Speaker 4: twenty five pages. Yeah, it's really he he was just
- 8:34Speaker 4: a one man crime or he and his wife they
- 8:36Speaker 4: were just a crime wave, just a drug a drug
- 8:41Speaker 4: crime wave. And I was shocked, really that they were
- 8:47Speaker 4: able to go in there and capture a president and
- 8:50Speaker 4: his wife from another country.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I mean, if you, and I'm speaking it's a non
- 8:54Speaker 2: military person, certainly supportive of the military, but I never served.
- 8:58Speaker 2: But I mean, if you there's a reason why they
- 9:00Speaker 2: say we have the finest forces in the world. But
- 9:02Speaker 2: I mean, to be to be able to go in
- 9:05Speaker 2: minimizing casualties. I mean, we didn't have any as far
- 9:08Speaker 2: as I know, we didn't have anything. But I mean,
- 9:11Speaker 2: to go in and get this guy laser pointed to
- 9:15Speaker 2: where he was. The time of day took a lot
- 9:18Speaker 2: of I mean, they didn't just on Friday afternoon at
- 9:21Speaker 2: three say we're going in. I mean, the weather had
- 9:23Speaker 2: to be right, and they pulled it off.
- 9:25Speaker 4: We had a lot of help on the inside. Yeah,
- 9:28Speaker 4: I'm sure we had a lot of help. And a
- 9:31Speaker 4: lot of generals are millionaires because to keep Maduro, you know,
- 9:38Speaker 4: to keep him in power. I mean, he didn't have
- 9:41Speaker 4: this for the people. But he had a chance to
- 9:44Speaker 4: go to Turkey. He could have gone to and lived
- 9:48Speaker 4: in Turkey with his wife, and he wouldn't. He wouldn't
- 9:52Speaker 4: do it. He said, well, I'll leave for two hundred
- 9:55Speaker 4: million dollars. Okay, Well how's that work for him? You know,
- 10:02Speaker 4: now here here, here's a couple couple of things. I
- 10:04Speaker 4: want you to look for. Number one, who's his lawyer
- 10:08Speaker 4: going to be? And I'll suggest the name Jeffrey Lickman. Jeffrey,
- 10:18Speaker 4: That's who. That's who I would if he if he
- 10:23Speaker 4: asked me, what do I you know, I'd say, Jeffrey Lickman.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Why is that? I think he's the best criminal lawyer
- 10:34Speaker 4: in the country. I mean he is now, of course
- 10:39Speaker 4: he represented El Chappo, but who's going to win that case?
- 10:44Speaker 4: But he represented John Gotti, John A. Gotty the Kid
- 10:52Speaker 4: on three different occasions and got him hung jury's all
- 10:55Speaker 4: three times and and they finally gave up. He got
- 11:01Speaker 4: him acquittals on a lot of it, but on the
- 11:05Speaker 4: racketeering he got him and there's a video of him
- 11:11Speaker 4: explaining it, this pitch to the jury at the end,
- 11:17Speaker 4: which always wents the case. And he is That's who
- 11:25Speaker 4: I'd get number one. But the other lawyers like Benjamin Bradman,
- 11:31Speaker 4: those kind of they're too old. They're you know, even
- 11:34Speaker 4: William Taylor, the lawyer represented Blanket Ship, he's in that league, yeah,
- 11:40Speaker 4: but he's these guys are too old and Anny, I
- 11:43Speaker 4: don't think anyone would argue that the world is a
- 11:46Speaker 4: better place with Maduro not being in power.
- 11:49Speaker 2: But there's still a lot of questions here. I mean
- 11:51Speaker 2: a lot of questions, and I don't think it makes
- 11:53Speaker 2: you unpatriotic on any subject answer to just ask questions
- 11:56Speaker 2: and just say, like a little bit further explanation on this,
- 12:00Speaker 2: and then the press conference on Monday or it's on
- 12:04Speaker 2: on Saturday afternoon. The press conference with Rubio and Haig
- 12:08Speaker 2: Seth and all the others, I think lended itself to
- 12:11Speaker 2: more questions because you know, when the president says and
- 12:14Speaker 2: the others say, we are running Venezuela.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Now, I don't know why he said.
- 12:20Speaker 2: I don't know really what that. I mean, you don't
- 12:23Speaker 2: want to go in take out the president and go okay, folks, citizens,
- 12:26Speaker 2: you're on your own. I get that. But that was
- 12:29Speaker 2: just a weird as they say that would That was
- 12:32Speaker 2: just a weird flex.
- 12:33Speaker 4: The duly elected president of Venezuela is in Spain. She
- 12:41Speaker 4: it's got the Nobel Peace Press and that's the duly elected.
- 12:46Speaker 4: But we're not going to go in there and run
- 12:48Speaker 4: that country.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Now.
- 12:49Speaker 4: What we could do is embargo the oil uh and
- 12:56Speaker 4: keep it out of Cuba and may Cuba next because
- 13:01Speaker 4: without Venezuela and oil, Cuba can't.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Well, Cuba's already weighed in on it. Their their leader
- 13:08Speaker 2: has has condemned it.
- 13:10Speaker 4: There's been a he can do whatever he wanted. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:13Speaker 4: because his veriant on the chopping block too. And I
- 13:19Speaker 4: understand people don't like it, But was Russia going to complain?
- 13:24Speaker 2: Was the Venezuelan people seem to Definitely? I mean they
- 13:28Speaker 2: just had you know, a handful of people, I mean
- 13:30Speaker 2: literally a handful of people that expressed an outrage over
- 13:35Speaker 2: The people love it. I mean, the people in Venezuela
- 13:38Speaker 2: love it that they feel like they've been liberated.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Seven million people left, seven million left the country because
- 13:46Speaker 4: of Maduro.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Now did they come back?
- 13:48Speaker 4: Well, we'll have to wait and see.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:50Speaker 4: I think we need to watch what happens with that
- 13:52Speaker 4: vice president or the who's now the president?
- 13:56Speaker 2: Right? But yeah, because I think and I'm very much
- 13:58Speaker 2: paraphrasing here, didn't the present and the others say about her, well,
- 14:02Speaker 2: you know, she's okay for now, but she's not the
- 14:04Speaker 2: long term answer. And again I'm very much paraphrase.
- 14:06Speaker 4: She's not she's not legitimate, right, she's not the duly
- 14:10Speaker 4: elected president, right, right that one. She's in Spain and
- 14:17Speaker 4: I don't know if they can bring her back or
- 14:20Speaker 4: her but you know, the military kind of runs things.
- 14:24Speaker 4: The military deposed Maduro or Chavez once and then after
- 14:31Speaker 4: two days they put him back.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Hold that thought right here, It's nine twenty two. I
- 14:35Speaker 2: need to take a break. We'll have more Danny Jones coming.

- 17:55Speaker 2: and to make things worse for them, they didn't get
- 17:57Speaker 2: the chance to celebrate any American soldiers getting killed, like
- 18:00Speaker 2: they were chopping at the bit to do.
- 18:02Speaker 4: In twenty twenty, Chuck Schumer gave a speech on the
- 18:07Speaker 4: floor criticizing Trump. Said, you've been there four years and
- 18:13Speaker 4: Maduro's unstill in power. What's what's going on? You know,
- 18:19Speaker 4: you'll see that sound bite before the days are he
- 18:22Speaker 4: was criticizing Trump because Maduro was still there, right, and
- 18:26Speaker 4: that was it during Trump's first term. Right, I'm not
- 18:31Speaker 4: in the nation building I was. That was one of
- 18:34Speaker 4: the reasons that I was kind of disowned by the
- 18:37Speaker 4: Republican Party because I did this. I did criticize. I
- 18:44Speaker 4: don't know besides John McCain, I didn't know any Vietnam
- 18:50Speaker 4: veteran that thought the Born at Rock was.
- 18:52Speaker 2: A good idea.
- 18:54Speaker 4: I just said, I'm sorry, I just didn't you.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Know, Texas, this is w chs. Anyone who can speak
- 19:00Speaker 2: to the type of oil Venezuela has. From what I've
- 19:03Speaker 2: been reading, it's the worst oil, difficult to refine, and
- 19:06Speaker 2: needs extensive infrastructure and processing to even get it on
- 19:09Speaker 2: tankers and to take it to refineries. Five to seven
- 19:12Speaker 2: years seem to be the optimistic estimate estimate to get
- 19:15Speaker 2: the oil flowing.
- 19:16Speaker 4: We can refine it.
- 19:18Speaker 2: That we can do, Texas, Dave, Remember Iraqi's celebrating when
- 19:22Speaker 2: Saddam was toppled. Remember their feeling of liberation. Remember what
- 19:25Speaker 2: happened in the following years. I don't understand people's optimism
- 19:28Speaker 2: with this. The USA doesn't have a good history with
- 19:31Speaker 2: regime change and nation building, because that's what this is.
- 19:34Speaker 4: Once again, you're pointing out something that's not not true.
- 19:38Speaker 4: We're not that we haven't changed the regime. We arrested
- 19:43Speaker 4: a criminal and his wife would be criminal. Now let
- 19:48Speaker 4: me give you some and his vice presidence in power
- 19:55Speaker 4: Trump running his mouth about that he's in charge, he's
- 19:58Speaker 4: not charger. What they could do is blockade that oil
- 20:04Speaker 4: and keep it from going to Cuba, and Cuba wants
- 20:08Speaker 4: to get mad. I don't think i'd be careful what
- 20:13Speaker 4: I said if I was Cuba. And what's Russia going
- 20:16Speaker 4: to criticize this? Russia? Russia, of all people, are they
- 20:21Speaker 4: going to criticize this Texas?
- 20:23Speaker 2: This capture was just as legal as it was in
- 20:26Speaker 2: eighteen eighty nine when George hw Bush Invada Panama and
- 20:29Speaker 2: took Manuel Noriega into custody. Oh, by the way, despite
- 20:32Speaker 2: what is lummist mayor mam Dommi thinks he cannot arrest
- 20:36Speaker 2: Net and Yahoo if he comes to New York.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Well, that's right, But the the here's what if I
- 20:47Speaker 4: was the trial lawyer, it's going to be in the
- 20:51Speaker 4: Southern District of New York. That's where the case is
- 20:54Speaker 4: going to be. The jury pool is some of these
- 20:59Speaker 4: peace voted for Kami Mndami, So I mean they may
- 21:08Speaker 4: they may just say, well Trump went down there and
- 21:12Speaker 4: god him, we're gonna send him back. I mean the
- 21:15Speaker 4: jury jury jurys are in nullification. There's certain juries that
- 21:22Speaker 4: just won't convict right.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Tex says, I think Danny may be wrong about the
- 21:27Speaker 2: woman in Spain being duly elected. I thought it was
- 21:29Speaker 2: another man, could be wrong, but I read it.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Now that's a woman. Okay, she got she got the Uh, well,
- 21:35Speaker 4: I'm not always right. Let's I'm not always wrong. Let's
- 21:38Speaker 4: look it up.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Okay, we'll look at it.
- 21:40Speaker 4: And it was she got the Nobel Peace Prize.
- 21:43Speaker 2: But a valance showing five any line. Brought to you

- 21:53Speaker 2: com under the podcast mean You. I listened to a
- 21:56Speaker 2: lot of the debate back and forth yesterday, well, actually
- 21:58Speaker 2: on Saturday too, but yesterday and so the wanting news shows.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I know Rubio was on ABC and I heard him speaking,
- 22:03Speaker 2: and and of course Stepanopolis was doing Stepanopolis is doing
- 22:09Speaker 2: what he does, which is appearing, you know, to be
- 22:11Speaker 2: as smarmy as possible. And sometimes I agree with Okay,
- 22:15Speaker 2: five percent of the time, maybe five percent of the time,
- 22:18Speaker 2: that's about it. But just his attitude, I think is
- 22:20Speaker 2: what you know, I get a lot of questions about.
- 22:23Speaker 2: But the question is, and what seems to be going
- 22:26Speaker 2: back and forth, is did they have to have congressional approval?
- 22:28Speaker 5: Well?
- 22:29Speaker 2: This was not okay? And and Danny, I tend to
- 22:32Speaker 2: agree with you, and I liked what Rubio has said
- 22:34Speaker 2: ever since Saturday. He said, look and he Seth said
- 22:37Speaker 2: this in so of the president Congress. I mean, how
- 22:41Speaker 2: are you going to keep that sort of a thing quiet?
- 22:43Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 22:44Speaker 4: And address to con Yeah, and we're.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Coming, you know, get ready to pack your bags, Maduro,
- 22:51Speaker 2: We're coming for you. I get that. I think the
- 22:53Speaker 2: question here that a lot of people have about this is, Okay,
- 22:57Speaker 2: he had warrants in America, we have the right to
- 23:00Speaker 2: go in and get him, okay, But when you involve
- 23:02Speaker 2: the military in it, That's where a lot of people
- 23:05Speaker 2: and I'm not saying this right or wrong, Danny, I'm
- 23:07Speaker 2: just saying that's where a lot of people have questions.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Is were we justified? Were we justified to go get him? Yes?
- 23:13Speaker 4: Military?
- 23:14Speaker 2: Were we justified to use the military to do it?
- 23:16Speaker 2: Some people say no, you say.
- 23:17Speaker 4: What military was involved with? No Diego? And they were
- 23:22Speaker 4: involved in the one Reagan did. I can't remember that.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Texas Danny defined, nation building is building Venezuela's oil infrastructure
- 23:32Speaker 2: so it becomes a more prosperous country. Is that not
- 23:36Speaker 2: nation building? Well, hold on is removing a president and
- 23:39Speaker 2: threatening the success or, not regime change.
- 23:43Speaker 4: We didn't. We arrested the president because and I would
- 23:47Speaker 4: urge the individual to read the indictment. It's twenty five ages.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Rubia was doing the same thing yesterday. He kept telling Stephanopolis, you.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Know, read the indictments. It's a it's a really riveting
- 24:06Speaker 4: charge made against this man. So he's being treated like
- 24:10Speaker 4: a criminal, and his vice president's in charge. Now, as
- 24:16Speaker 4: far as that's a good question about the nation building,
- 24:19Speaker 4: but if there's a nation building to be done down there,
- 24:23Speaker 4: it won't be done by us. It'll be done by
- 24:26Speaker 4: the oil companies if they can get back in there.
- 24:31Speaker 4: If it depends on who the president is, if they
- 24:36Speaker 4: bring this lady in she won the election last year,
- 24:40Speaker 4: or the man.
- 24:42Speaker 2: The person when he lets birth the person. Tex says.
- 24:45Speaker 2: The US has the best capacity of any country to
- 24:47Speaker 2: refine the heavy crew that Venezuela has more reserves of
- 24:51Speaker 2: than any other nation of the planet. It's all about oil,
- 24:54Speaker 2: not cocaine. Don Junior is still getting his.
- 24:58Speaker 4: I don't know about but but I'm not sure. I'm
- 25:06Speaker 4: not well. Oil plays a big part, both negatively and positively,
- 25:15Speaker 4: because if they blockade oil to Cuba, Cuba's going down.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Tex says, with the morons voting in the likes of
- 25:24Speaker 2: Bernie Aoc and Mandamie, you can tell the history and
- 25:28Speaker 2: evils of socialism and communism has not been taught in
- 25:31Speaker 2: public schools in decades. The Berlin Wall came down when
- 25:34Speaker 2: I was in high school, and I remember the younger
- 25:36Speaker 2: generation's crist of jubilation for freedom.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Finally, remember the name Jeffrey Lickman, and remember what our
- 25:46Speaker 4: conversation about the jury pool, because I think that is
- 25:51Speaker 4: so significant. Maybe your listeners will have some opinions on
- 25:58Speaker 4: that I.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Want to ask you a quick question. Be where I
- 26:01Speaker 2: let you go. It's totally not related to this in
- 26:03Speaker 2: any way. The legislature will gabble in next week and
- 26:07Speaker 2: we'll have you on of course next week to talk
- 26:08Speaker 2: about that. But a couple of weeks ago, Speaker Handshaw
- 26:11Speaker 2: and some of the House folks got together did a
- 26:14Speaker 2: little press conference that we are going to we are
- 26:16Speaker 2: going to focus on jobs, the economy, so on and so forth,
- 26:19Speaker 2: not so much on the social issues. This was the House,
- 26:22Speaker 2: not the Senate, saying what are the chances that they
- 26:26Speaker 2: hold true to that?
- 26:29Speaker 4: Well, I mean that's what we need. That's what West Virginia.
- 26:33Speaker 4: I mean, they've done about all they can do socially.
- 26:37Speaker 4: You can't get an abortion in this state, and well,
- 26:41Speaker 4: I mean, what else do you want?
- 26:43Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sure there's things out there.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I mean, why not focus on something that affects every
- 26:51Speaker 4: single West forgid't it? Instead of just a few we
- 26:57Speaker 4: Virginians people. People can get abortion, they just have to
- 27:00Speaker 4: leave the state. And that's the way it was in
- 27:03Speaker 4: nineteen seventy two when I live with mister Sam Fernandez
- 27:07Speaker 4: and he used to sell them on the phone.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Danny Jones, appreciate you being here.
- 27:11Speaker 4: I didn't write that in the book.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Well, that'll be in the next book, and they're just

- 31:32Speaker 2: Speaking of which, just really quick, and this means absolutely
- 31:35Speaker 2: nothing other than the fact that I found this interesting.
- 31:37Speaker 2: There is a new report outum that says nationwide, students
- 31:42Speaker 2: spend an average of one hour per day at school
- 31:47Speaker 2: on their cell phones. One hour per day at school.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Let me repeat that, one hour per day at school
- 31:54Speaker 2: on their cell phones. And what was more interesting to
- 31:57Speaker 2: me as I was reading this report, lowered in kids
- 32:01Speaker 2: tend to spend more time on their cell phones at
- 32:03Speaker 2: school than do upper income kids.
- 32:06Speaker 4: I don't know why.

- 32:16Speaker 11: U not that I have anything to do with the
- 32:19Speaker 11: policies at our schools, but as a mother of two,
- 32:22Speaker 11: I wish it was in place when my kids were
- 32:24Speaker 11: in school. I don't like them, right, I mean here
- 32:27Speaker 11: she is sitting with her in front. It's captive though,
- 32:31Speaker 11: and it captures you and it's not I mean, I
- 32:33Speaker 11: can get a ton of stuff. As a matter of fact,
- 32:35Speaker 11: Tjen ever, just talking about when you when you you know,
- 32:38Speaker 11: work in the either remote employee, you know you work,
- 32:43Speaker 11: you do zoom you you could do anything mostly anything
- 32:48Speaker 11: from your house or your car if you had one
- 32:51Speaker 11: of these in your hands. My then sixteen year old
- 32:54Speaker 11: surely didn't need one well in school, and especially if
- 32:57Speaker 11: I were standing in front of them as an instructor.
- 32:59Speaker 11: In both of my parents for teachers, they would have
- 33:01Speaker 11: said no, thank you, no way, no how well.
- 33:04Speaker 2: What's been proven, Mayor is nationwide that when school systems
- 33:08Speaker 2: have implemented these policies, who has the problem with it
- 33:12Speaker 2: is not the kid. It's the parent.
- 33:14Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the parent.
- 33:15Speaker 2: The kids got used to it. And there's been studies
- 33:18Speaker 2: also study.
- 33:19Speaker 11: I want to get a hold of you, right, I
- 33:20Speaker 11: want to find out where you are, what are you
- 33:22Speaker 11: doing listen. I also I will say I had them
- 33:25Speaker 11: too for my kids when you're getting picked up when
- 33:28Speaker 11: is practice. It was a good communication device for It's
- 33:33Speaker 11: selfish for parents, right, it's selfish. I want to get
- 33:35Speaker 11: you when I want to get you. Are you running
- 33:36Speaker 11: late today? You know I'm here for your dentist appointment.
- 33:39Speaker 11: Hurry up, let's go. So it's a selfish thing for
- 33:42Speaker 11: the most part.
- 33:42Speaker 2: And that's what whatever happened? I mean, you know you
- 33:45Speaker 2: and I are roughly yeah, I'm older than you.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Okay, all right, So.
- 33:49Speaker 2: So whatever happened to the fact that, okay, the kid
- 33:52Speaker 2: leaves the house at seven seven thirty and you say, okay,
- 33:55Speaker 2: don't forget after school you have soccer practice, parents, Yeah,
- 33:59Speaker 2: you have to. I'm going to pick you up in
- 34:01Speaker 2: front of and I'm going to use a logan reference here.
- 34:03Speaker 2: I'll pick you up in front of the bowling alley
- 34:05Speaker 2: at three o'clock and then we're going to take you
- 34:07Speaker 2: What happened to that? What happened to teaching kids to remember.
- 34:11Speaker 4: Remember and next thing?
- 34:13Speaker 11: And having my sister and I sit and wait an
- 34:16Speaker 11: extra half hour because my parents were running late because
- 34:18Speaker 11: of work didn't really harm us. We had to wait
- 34:22Speaker 11: a little We survived. We survived. Floyd Schuler would have said,
- 34:27Speaker 11: you're totally fine. If I would have had a phone
- 34:29Speaker 11: and would have been texting on the phone while he
- 34:32Speaker 11: was having a conversation with me, the phone would have
- 34:34Speaker 11: been out the window in the garbage, like you.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Just just and you'd be lucky if you weren't attached
- 34:40Speaker 2: to it.
- 34:41Speaker 4: For sure. Oh those were the day before.
- 34:45Speaker 2: I want to talk about your state of the city
- 34:47Speaker 2: at night. But before I do that, I want to
- 34:49Speaker 2: I want to say a couple of things. It's been
- 34:51Speaker 2: a good couple of weeks for restaurants here in Charleston
- 34:54Speaker 2: New Year. You know, we had the soft opening one downtown.
- 34:56Speaker 11: And I was there at one one.
- 34:58Speaker 4: It was so fun.
- 34:58Speaker 2: The folks at the Bourbon Street be are going to
- 35:00Speaker 2: have a ribbon cutting with the Alliance a little bit
- 35:02Speaker 2: later on today. I think. So, if you're hungry in Charleston,
- 35:06Speaker 2: it's your own fault.
- 35:07Speaker 11: Well, and lots of different flare right. Everybody kind of
- 35:10Speaker 11: has their own spin on it. And you know, one
- 35:12Speaker 11: oh one is going to grow into a big steakhouse
- 35:14Speaker 11: as well. I mean, Denny has done just an amazing
- 35:17Speaker 11: job when I walked in there on New Year's Eve
- 35:19Speaker 11: for their soft grand opening with my husband Booth. We
- 35:23Speaker 11: were like, wait a second, this is different now, new
- 35:27Speaker 11: flooring and new ceiling, a new bar, and I mean
- 35:29Speaker 11: they just gutted the place. And actually, so to tie in,
- 35:34Speaker 11: that's what I'm talking about tonight. In the state of
- 35:36Speaker 11: the city, you know, municipal governments and people in elected office,
- 35:40Speaker 11: we have a really bad habit of saying, look what
- 35:43Speaker 11: I did, Look what I did. I'm a daughter of
- 35:46Speaker 11: a small business owner. By the way, that guy who
- 35:48Speaker 11: would have thrown my cell phone down the block he
- 35:50Speaker 11: was at work. You want to know when early in
- 35:53Speaker 11: the morning, you know when he stayed late at night.
- 35:55Speaker 11: You know what else he worked nights and weekends and holidays.
- 35:57Speaker 11: Because when you run your own business and you understand
- 36:01Speaker 11: that the dollars and cents that come through your cash
- 36:04Speaker 11: register depends upon working smarter and harder, That's what I
- 36:10Speaker 11: get to talk about tonight because I want to take
- 36:12Speaker 11: this opportunity to remind folks too. And there will be
- 36:16Speaker 11: a couple of really interesting things that we're going to
- 36:19Speaker 11: announce tonight, and I'm very excited to talk about one big, big,
- 36:22Speaker 11: big future development that folks have been asking me about
- 36:27Speaker 11: for a very long period of time. And so we'll
- 36:28Speaker 11: save it for tonight, but I'll call you tomorrow. But
- 36:34Speaker 11: hundreds of millions of dollars of private investment we forget.
- 36:38Speaker 11: Oh hey, a new restaurant's opening. You know how hard
- 36:40Speaker 11: it is to open a restaurant. You know how hard
- 36:43Speaker 11: it is to build apartment complexes. You know how hard
- 36:45Speaker 11: it is to continue to build and invest. It says
- 36:49Speaker 11: a lot about a city, I believe when you see, yeah,
- 36:52Speaker 11: we're doing things. The municipal government has kind of changed.
- 36:55Speaker 11: It's almost like universities building and growing because people put
- 37:00Speaker 11: such a high regard when they're moving to places on
- 37:03Speaker 11: quality of life. That's why we have to Cities must
- 37:07Speaker 11: reinvent themselves, just like small businesses. What do you want
- 37:11Speaker 11: out of your city? We're never going to get away from,
- 37:14Speaker 11: nor should we. The things that municipal government should do
- 37:17Speaker 11: and do well. Pick up your trash, salt and scrape
- 37:20Speaker 11: your roads. A police fire ems period all day long,
- 37:25Speaker 11: twenty four hours a day. Parks, free swimming for our
- 37:28Speaker 11: kids who need a good and safe place to go.
- 37:31Speaker 11: We're good for our kids who need a good and
- 37:34Speaker 11: safe place to go. We're good at that, but by
- 37:38Speaker 11: the way, we also have to work with folks who
- 37:40Speaker 11: are building and investing in the city, and that's what
- 37:42Speaker 11: I'm going to be talking about tonight. I'm also going
- 37:44Speaker 11: to be highlighting many, many people who have truly made
- 37:50Speaker 11: not just tens of millions of dollars of investment in
- 37:54Speaker 11: our city, but also folks who are really changing the
- 37:57Speaker 11: narrative and changing the landscape. Because we get very myopic
- 38:01Speaker 11: in what we do right, very myopic. This is my project,
- 38:05Speaker 11: these are the things I want to do, and so
- 38:07Speaker 11: tonight is a nod to folks throughout the city and
- 38:10Speaker 11: throughout the state. When we say we are better together,
- 38:14Speaker 11: we mean it because the city of Charleston is thriving,
- 38:17Speaker 11: and not just because of the things that we're doing
- 38:19Speaker 11: in municipal government. It is because people believe in the city.
- 38:24Speaker 11: And it's not me just saying it or putting it
- 38:27Speaker 11: out on social media. Are putting a pretty picture out there,
- 38:31Speaker 11: it's dollars and cents. I'm going to talk about the
- 38:33Speaker 11: dollars and the investment people are bringing, because people are
- 38:37Speaker 11: bringing hundreds of millions of dollars just over the past
- 38:42Speaker 11: handful of years. Why because they believe that their investment,
- 38:46Speaker 11: by the way, is going to have a good return
- 38:47Speaker 11: for them, and so we're very excited about that.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Charleson Marry Mischieldller good ones. Here she will give her
- 38:53Speaker 2: State of the City speech to night in front of
- 38:55Speaker 2: Charleston City Council with Dave Allen Show and five eighty

- 39:12Speaker 2: All Right, so you kind of teased a big announcement
- 39:15Speaker 2: or something tonight. So you want to go ahead and
- 39:16Speaker 2: schedule to come on the show tomorrow?
- 39:18Speaker 11: Yeah, come on tomorrow. Yeah, I want to get back
- 39:20Speaker 11: to the office. I'll tell Tina.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Listen to it would be just in case I forget
- 39:25Speaker 2: to read nine to twenty.
- 39:26Speaker 11: Tomorrow, nine twenty tomorrow, Okay, I.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Think Tina, are you on that hur right?
- 39:31Speaker 11: I'll look at my look ready, I would go look
- 39:32Speaker 11: at my friend, your people.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Your people got my people, and my people is me.
- 39:37Speaker 11: And you know that's that's the other thing. And I'm
- 39:39Speaker 11: glad you're giving me a moment to talk about this
- 39:41Speaker 11: as well. I say it, I say it till I'm
- 39:44Speaker 11: blue in the face. I'm one of seven hundred and
- 39:45Speaker 11: fifty employees. I'm just one. I'm just one man. We
- 39:48Speaker 11: have amazing department directors, we have amazing folks, and our
- 39:52Speaker 11: CPD and CFD, and our emergency responders, folks who are
- 39:57Speaker 11: salting and scraping, the folks who I said hello to
- 40:00Speaker 11: on my way in. Our maintenance crew are out scrubbing
- 40:04Speaker 11: the floors and cleaning the toilets and sinks to prepare
- 40:07Speaker 11: folks to come in to work and to have our
- 40:10Speaker 11: public come in our buildings. We have amazing, amazing city
- 40:15Speaker 11: employees who have chosen not just to live in the
- 40:18Speaker 11: City of Charleston, but to work for the City of Charleston.
- 40:21Speaker 11: And I'm so incredibly proud to work with them every day.
- 40:24Speaker 11: And I really mean it. You know, as you well know,
- 40:27Speaker 11: I'm not going to do this job forever, hopefully just
- 40:30Speaker 11: one more time. But the thing that I will absolutely
- 40:34Speaker 11: love more than any other position that I've had. The
- 40:39Speaker 11: people who I get to work with every single day
- 40:42Speaker 11: are just amazing. They're just they have dedicated their life
- 40:46Speaker 11: to public service. And to stop and think the guys
- 40:50Speaker 11: that I saw this morning who were working on the
- 40:53Speaker 11: lands
