- 0:03Speaker 1: We are live at St. John's where tonight it is
- 0:05Speaker 1: the Irish American Baseball Society, Irish Wolfhounds. And we'll take
- 0:10Speaker 1: you inside on the field here at St. John's.
- 0:14Speaker 2: We love our brotherly, sunny, green, and warm. And tonight
- 0:48Speaker 2: they take on the court officers.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Live at St. John's, a beautiful night and you can
- 0:55Speaker 1: actually see the Irish flag in the distance there, pink
- 1:01Speaker 1: flying over Jack Kaiser Stadium, home of the once again
- 1:06Speaker 1: Big East champion, St. John's Red Storm. And we are
- 1:14Speaker 1: underway here in Queens. I feel very connected to this
- 1:17Speaker 1: team right now. Where is this place at, Alex? We're
- 1:22Speaker 1: right here at St. John's University. We're in Jack Kaiser Stadium,
- 1:26Speaker 1: home of the two-time Big East champion St. John's Red Storm.
- 1:30Speaker 1: So they won this past year. And I got to
- 1:33Speaker 1: meet Mike Hampton, the coach of the St. John's Red Storm,
- 1:35Speaker 1: right on this field. And who did you interview today?
- 1:39Speaker 1: I've interviewed, here's the pitch. One of the coaches from St. John's,
- 1:46Speaker 1: from the Irish.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Ooh, nice.
- 1:49Speaker 1: One of the Irish coaches I interviewed. I saw that
- 1:51Speaker 1: video actually on Instagram. And they played the Irish National Anthem.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So you can hear that. I'll post that on my
- 1:56Speaker 1: TikTok as well.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I'll see that. I'll check it out.
- 1:58Speaker 1: It's so funny, Linz. You're Italian, and I am 5% Irish,
- 2:02Speaker 1: but it's the best part of me because I'm German,
- 2:05Speaker 1: I'm Russian, and I'm a few others, but the Irish
- 2:08Speaker 1: is what sticks with me. Even though it's 5%, it
- 2:10Speaker 1: just makes... I like to find me a little bit. Anyway,
- 2:14Speaker 1: here's the pitch. Walked in, and we are now a
- 2:18Speaker 1: one-room ballgame. The Irish have the bases loaded now with
- 2:24Speaker 1: one out. The Irish, here at St. John's University. That
- 2:32Speaker 1: one's hit, and it all. Dumped it for a base hit.
- 2:36Speaker 2: 20 run score. And they're gonna mob them.
- 2:41Speaker 1: That's between first and second.
- 2:46Speaker 2: And Irish Baseball wins it.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I'm here with members of the Irish Baseball team.
- 2:53Speaker 3: What a win tonight, guys.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Talk about tonight's game.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I think we had.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Four innings at the bases loaded and we stranded it.
- 3:02Speaker 1: How many pieces of gum did you have? We won.
- 3:05Speaker 1: We won big time. Love it.
- 3:09Speaker 3: What's it like to wear the Irish on the chest?
- 3:11Speaker 1: What's that like for you guys? Aaron go brah, man.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Aaron go brah.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Love it, guys.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Well, good luck the rest of the way.
- 3:19Speaker 1: All right. Here with Rob Delaney of the Irish here
- 3:22Speaker 1: at St. John's University.
- 3:23Speaker 3: What a win tonight.
- 3:24Speaker 2: What's it mean to bring Irish.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Baseball to Queens? Oh, it was a great opportunity for
- 3:28Speaker 3: us to come here and get a win.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 3:30Speaker 2: You know, it's always nice to win.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Now, what's it mean to wear the Irish across your chest?
- 3:33Speaker 2: Like, what's the goal with this program?
- 3:36Speaker 3: You know, it's a great amount of pride to have
- 3:39Speaker 3: this on. Just, you know, let everybody know what we're
- 3:42Speaker 3: about here and getting Irish.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Baseball up and going.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And shout out to John Fitzgerald, right?
- 3:48Speaker 2: Very much so.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Thanks to John for organizing this and getting us going here.
- 3:51Speaker 3: All right, awesome. Thank you, Rob.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Nice to meet you. All right, bases loaded.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Canelli with the game-winning hit.
- 3:56Speaker 2: What was that like for you? Felt good.
- 3:58Speaker 3: First A, B, and A go as planned, but got
- 4:00Speaker 3: the job done in the second half.
- 4:02Speaker 1: It was quite a game tonight, back and forth a
- 4:04Speaker 1: little bit.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Just playing at the St.
- 4:06Speaker 1: John's University Field.
- 4:07Speaker 2: What was that like for you?
- 4:08Speaker 1: I mean, it was incredible. I mean, to win on
- 4:10Speaker 1: a walk-off, you.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Can't make it up.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Now, I know a lot of these guys range from
- 4:12Speaker 1: different levels.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Did you play college ball? Well, I just finished up
- 4:15Speaker 2: in high school.
- 4:16Speaker 3: I'm going to college ball now at Brookdale. No way.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Oh, Brookdale? Yeah. Very cool. So a little bit of
- 4:20Speaker 2: a taste of college ball here, I guess, huh?
- 4:21Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, it felt good.
- 4:23Speaker 1: As I mentioned earlier, what's it mean to represent the
- 4:25Speaker 1: Irish on the chessboard?
- 4:26Speaker 2: It means everything, you know?
- 4:27Speaker 1: This is where.
- 4:29Speaker 2: The Irish flag and the sleeve, it means everything. And
- 4:31Speaker 2: for those that see this and.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Want to join, what should they do?
- 4:33Speaker 1: What should they do? It's a program worth joining, isn't it? Yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 2: It's a great program.
- 4:39Speaker 3: All right.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Thanks so much, and congratulations again. Thank you. Coach Lawley,
- 4:43Speaker 1: you're now in your jersey. So let's talk about this
- 4:44Speaker 1: game tonight. Before the game, we were just talking about
- 4:46Speaker 1: being here, but then.
- 4:47Speaker 2: You win it tonight. Talk about the win.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I mean, what a way to win it. The way
- 4:50Speaker 3: it happens is obviously you can't script it as more
- 4:53Speaker 3: exciting of a finish there. Getting to the finish was
- 4:56Speaker 3: a little dicey. We kind of gave away a few
- 5:00Speaker 3: innings in the middle there, but for our guys to–
- 5:02Speaker 3: Stop it before it went the other way. Put us
- 5:05Speaker 3: in position to just have the winning run at third base.
- 5:08Speaker 1: We had that top inning with the three runs or
- 5:10Speaker 1: four runs on one hit. And then you make the
- 5:12Speaker 1: change and then boom, things just happen from there.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Things started to happen from there. Our guys put up
- 5:16Speaker 3: tough at-bats. I really think the whole night. We really
- 5:18Speaker 3: didn't give any at-bats really away. And then keep yourself
- 5:22Speaker 3: in position. have a guy like that, like Henley off
- 5:25Speaker 3: the bench, come in, and in his second at bat,
- 5:27Speaker 3: you know, hit the game-winning hit, which is, again, you
- 5:29Speaker 3: can't script it.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Now, you work alongside Joe McEwing. What's that like?
- 5:32Speaker 3: I mean, is he part of this program as well?
- 5:33Speaker 3: He is. You know, I have not gotten a chance
- 5:36Speaker 3: to coach with him just yet. You know, I had
- 5:37Speaker 3: an opportunity to work with some of the other, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 3: big leaguers and having Ron Delaney in the dugout tonight and,
- 5:42Speaker 3: you know, guys like Shane Spencer and, you know, Sean
- 5:44Speaker 3: Casey and guys like that have coached, you know, some
- 5:47Speaker 3: Wolfhounds game over the years. It's just... it's great to
- 5:49Speaker 3: see it get attention from guys with that, that caliber.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And hopefully we can keep growing this thing.
- 5:53Speaker 3: And obviously the WBC is on our radar.
- 5:55Speaker 1: We'll see if that happens, right?
- 5:56Speaker 2: Always is.
- 5:57Speaker 3: You know, there's, there's a, you know, growing that sport in, uh,
- 6:00Speaker 3: growing this sport in Ireland and having more Irish kids
- 6:02Speaker 3: play over here and over there, you know, is, uh,
- 6:05Speaker 3: most important, but yeah, there's no doubt that WBC is
- 6:07Speaker 3: definitely something.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And one last thing I didn't mention as well, but
- 6:09Speaker 1: Jonathan Sherrill is architect of all.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Guy does it all.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Guy does it all.
- 6:13Speaker 3: And, you know, he does it from a million miles away,
- 6:15Speaker 3: but still gets every aspect done.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It's incredible.
- 6:17Speaker 3: He thinks, you know, he's, mailing me flags to get
- 6:19Speaker 3: up today. You know, the guy thinks of everything. So,
- 6:22Speaker 3: you know, blessed that he's got faith in us to
- 6:23Speaker 3: keep bringing us back and work with these kids and
- 6:26Speaker 3: young adults.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And then you get the clinic.
- 6:30Speaker 3: So you got to get a 14 year game. We
- 6:32Speaker 3: did a 12 year clinic. We had the game. We've
- 6:34Speaker 3: been out here all day wearing this Irish gear. And,
- 6:37Speaker 3: you know, it's it's a privilege.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I asked you earlier what to mean to represent the Irish.
- 6:41Speaker 3: It's just incredible, you know, to see it, you know,
- 6:45Speaker 3: grow to what it is and to see the potential
- 6:47Speaker 3: of what it could become. I had the chance to
- 6:49Speaker 3: go over there last year, and hopefully I'll get over
- 6:51Speaker 3: there again next summer. And watching the impact the game
- 6:54Speaker 3: has on kids that have never seen it before is
- 6:57Speaker 3: absolutely incredible.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Well, Coach Lally, thanks so much for joining me tonight.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Appreciate you coming out.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you.
