- 0:42scored all three of the runs in the second. In fact,
- 0:46they had three consecutive two out hits on Fromer Valdez
- 0:49who gave up all three of those runs. Meanwhile, Terrek
- 0:52skuball tremendous six shutout inning, scattering four hits and Will
- 0:58Vest in his second inning relief. Now for the Tigers
- 1:01working against the Astros who bat with one out in
- 1:05the bottom half of the eighth inning, So we'll keep

- 1:27tonight is the Padres and Braves in game one of that,
- 1:31so they gets called up in the baseball and we'll
- 1:32have some analysis of it. Of it all coming from
- 1:37Gene Watson coming up here in just a few moments.
- 1:40And we wanted to hear a little more from Long
- 1:44Wren's head coach Steve Sarkis, and he had his news
- 1:46conference yesterday, and for sark it was the only media
- 1:53availability this week, this being the open date on the schedule,
- 1:57so this would be the only opportunity for us to
- 2:05be able to hear from sark coming up and sark
- 2:10talking about a variety of things, and among those the
- 2:16play that a lot of folks saw that Arch Banning
- 2:21pulled off in the third quarter laid in the third quarter.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Of the ballgame with Mississippi State.
- 2:32Speaker 1: It was twenty one to six at that point, and
- 2:34we'd already seen Arch banning for a one touchdown pass,
- 2:39that beautiful throw down the boundary right before the end
- 2:45of the first half when he hit DeAndre Moor and
- 2:50stride there.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Right at about the two yard line.
- 2:52Speaker 1: He went in for the score and that gave the
- 2:56long words of fourteen to six halftime lead. Then in
- 3:00the third quarter, it remember it was Manning who scored
- 3:03to make a twenty one to six And then there
- 3:07was the drive there where he early in the fourth
- 3:10quarter found more Again, this required a little more work
- 3:17on Archer's part other than taking a shot to the face,
- 3:19which is what happened on the forty nine yard touchdown pass.
- 3:24This one was a deal where he had enough time
- 3:27to look over the defense. And I remember we visited
- 3:32with DeAndre Moore on the postgame show and I asked
- 3:35him about it, and he said, I just had to
- 3:37find a path, and he found a way to get
- 3:40through it and split two defenders deep in the end
- 3:43zone to be able to pull it in. So the
- 3:46question then went to Arch Manning about what he saw,
- 3:51and he explained what he saw. And then yesterday in
- 3:53the news conference, Longwarren's head coach, Steve Sarkishan was asked
- 3:57for his thoughts on Manning's progression as a quarterback and
- 4:02what he's done as a quarterback to progress to be
- 4:05able to be able to read the defense enough to
- 4:08see that play develop and then to be able to
- 4:12execute it.
- 4:14Speaker 2: No, it was definitely.
- 4:18Speaker 3: First of all, I'll say this, You know, you call
- 4:20a certain play with a premier coverage of mind, and
- 4:23that clearly was not. I did not think they were
- 4:25gonna zero blitz us on third and anybody remember the
- 4:28down and distance on that play third and there's third
- 4:31and long. It was third and Long were right about
- 4:33the fifty yard line there near the end of the
- 4:35first half, and we actually were anticipating coverage and so
- 4:39we were trying to get three verticals. Matt Golden was
- 4:41actually running down the middle of the field and they
- 4:44actually zero blitzed us. And the beauty of that was
- 4:50that when I say zero blitz, there's no safeties and
- 4:52they're bringing one more than we have to block. And
- 4:54the beauty of it was one that the offensive line
- 4:57picked up the five that they could. The second part
- 5:01of it was that Arch knew who the free rush
- 5:03was going to be. And the third part of it
- 5:06was he knew where his man answers were to go
- 5:08take a shot. At that point, it was we call
- 5:10it dealer's choice. He could have went to ib, he
- 5:12could have went to DeAndre. It wasn't designed for one
- 5:14of those. The best matchup he went with Dre to
- 5:17the field and it was a heck of a throw
- 5:18and heck of a catch.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that was hit pretty much in essence on that,
- 5:26You've heard Sark talk about this, and he mentioned with
- 5:29us on the post came about the season being in segments,
- 5:32and he looked at these first five ball games as
- 5:35one segment before the bye week, the open date, then
- 5:39a free game period with Oklahoma, Georgia, and Vanderbilt, then
- 5:44there's another bye week.
- 5:45Speaker 2: And then concluding this.
- 5:46Speaker 1: So he went into a little more detail about how
- 5:47they approach it as a staff and a team, the
- 5:50way this season is segmented.
- 5:53Speaker 2: No, just phase two.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I save all my creativeness for the play calls, so
- 5:59just two. You know the difference is is that that
- 6:04first phase, when you think of training camp and then
- 6:06a five game slate like that was probably.
- 6:09Speaker 2: A longer block.
- 6:10Speaker 3: This is really a four week block with the bye
- 6:12week and then a three game schedule, and so we're
- 6:16really attacking it as such, you know, of what are
- 6:19we doing this week to put ourselves in the best
- 6:21position for these next three weeks of the season, and
- 6:24then we'll worry about the next block after that. And
- 6:27so I think when you can break it down like
- 6:29that for the players, it's not so intimidating when you
- 6:33look at when you look at the whole duration of
- 6:35a season from August all the way until end of January.
- 6:39And so we try to break it down the smaller
- 6:41segments to keep their attention and focus on the task
- 6:44at hand.
- 6:45Speaker 2: What's what, you know, what's going on right in front
- 6:46of them. All Right, we'll have some more from Sark
- 6:48a little later on this hour.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Up next, we're talking about these baseball playoffs with our
- 6:53MLB insider Gene wats coming up next when we continue
- 6:55on sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of the
- 6:57iHeartRadio app.
