- 0:30Speaker 2: peer into the adults only theaters in sticky floored cinemas
- 0:35Speaker 2: of the golden age of sexploitation, when the morals were loose,
- 0:39Speaker 2: the laws were murky, and the intercourse was all simulated.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Find us now on the Someone's Favorite Productions Podcast Network.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Anything for a good Cause.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I'm a security gone. I kill people every fucking day.
- 1:14Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:15Speaker 3: When I was growing up in Bakersfield, my favorite thing
- 1:18Speaker 3: in all the world was to go to the movies
- 1:19Speaker 3: on Saturday afternoons for the chapter plays.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I know that, mister man.
- 1:25Speaker 4: They also call them serials. I'm not stupid, you know.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I am the devil and I am here to do
- 1:31Speaker 2: the devil's work.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Jordan Ryan, welcome back to Beyond the Blood. First time
- 1:48Speaker 3: you guys are on here together, but both of you
- 1:50Speaker 3: guys have been on before. I know it's a little
- 1:53Speaker 3: bit different here. For everyone listening. This is supposed to
- 1:57Speaker 3: be a sleepaway Camp commentary episode.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Listen.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Podcasts are hard. There's so many moving pieces. Things get
- 2:05Speaker 3: in the way, things get messed up. We have to
- 2:07Speaker 3: do delays, but we still want to get stuff out.
- 2:10Speaker 3: So I instantly hit the interwebs and I was like,
- 2:13Speaker 3: who can I think to get on to talk about
- 2:16Speaker 3: some physical media. You guys were the first to that
- 2:18Speaker 3: came to mind. So Ryan Jordan, thank you for coming
- 2:21Speaker 3: and hanging out with me today.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks thanks for inviting us.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Of course, of course.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Yeah, It's been quite a year for physical media so far,
- 2:31Speaker 3: and I feel like every time we do in after hours,
- 2:33Speaker 3: it's almost overwhelming to kind of figure out exactly what
- 2:39Speaker 3: to talk about so much all the time, Like Jordan,
- 2:44Speaker 3: I know you your hauls are out of control.
- 2:47Speaker 1: You're well the last couple, Yeah, yeah, have been. It's
- 2:54Speaker 1: funny I tell people I'm physical media broke at the moment.
- 2:57Speaker 2: So.
- 2:58Speaker 1: There's no more I gotta hold off.
- 3:02Speaker 4: I get that. I get that.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Ryan.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I want to ask you, do you log your physical
- 3:06Speaker 3: media stuff, like in like a clz or like a
- 3:08Speaker 3: database or anything.
- 3:10Speaker 5: I do not always on time, and then I find
- 3:13Speaker 5: out later that I missed something. Sadly a lot of
- 3:17Speaker 5: the times, that's like nineteen months later when I've double
- 3:21Speaker 5: bought something that I could have swore I had, but
- 3:24Speaker 5: it's not in the database, so I'll buy it again,
- 3:26Speaker 5: and then I go to put it on the shelf
- 3:27Speaker 5: or something, it's, oh, there it is, let's just put
- 3:30Speaker 5: this in the sell pile. Yes, I use the Blu
- 3:34Speaker 5: ray dot Com app I for me, at least. I
- 3:37Speaker 5: find it's the best one that has the largest database
- 3:40Speaker 5: where I have to input the least and it's free
- 3:43Speaker 5: and I can't really argue with that cost.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I do CLZ just because I like the random pick,
- 3:49Speaker 3: like the shake if I shake my phone and randomly
- 3:51Speaker 3: pick something from the collection, because I can ever decide anything.
- 3:56Speaker 5: And my way of random picking is walking into the
- 3:58Speaker 5: movie room accidentally bumping into something and whatever falls down.
- 4:02Speaker 5: I try to watch that one.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I mean, with the size of your Yeah, with the
- 4:08Speaker 3: size of your collection, that seems about the only organized
- 4:10Speaker 3: way to go at it at this point.
- 4:12Speaker 5: You know, I'm ashamed.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Yes, I was actually thinking about I was thinking about
- 4:17Speaker 3: you a little earlier because my phone is always on
- 4:19Speaker 3: do not disturb, because there's a point here.
- 4:25Speaker 4: My phone's always on do not disturb.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Because I hate the sound of notifications because there's certain
- 4:30Speaker 3: people that I want to answer at certain times, right
- 4:32Speaker 3: like not everything is immediate respond and if there's a
- 4:35Speaker 3: noise then I get anxious that I have to answer it,
- 4:37Speaker 3: and so everything goes and do not disturb.
- 4:40Speaker 4: I only have.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Post notifications on for like ten pages on Instagram, like Jordan.
- 4:46Speaker 4: You're one of them.
- 4:48Speaker 3: The movie Room is one, Disconnected is one, and I
- 4:52Speaker 3: have to say every single day my evening summary is
- 4:57Speaker 3: like just you, but it's like there's forty seven new
- 5:04Speaker 3: posts from Disconnected.
- 5:06Speaker 5: I giggled at the beginning when you said you have
- 5:08Speaker 5: your phone on do not disturb, because I used to
- 5:11Speaker 5: have that on do not disturb during some parts of
- 5:13Speaker 5: the day. But now my life is like this is
- 5:18Speaker 5: going to sound ridiculous, but like sixty one percent responding
- 5:21Speaker 5: to notifications. That's genuinely what I do, like with most
- 5:24Speaker 5: of my life, whether it's emails to filmmakers or labels
- 5:28Speaker 5: or somebody on Facebook that is replying to a Disconnected
- 5:33Speaker 5: post saying that something is going to be coming out
- 5:35Speaker 5: in eight k next week. I like, I'm constantly responding
- 5:39Speaker 5: to things and it's tiring. It really is.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Yeah, But I feel like having notifications on would be
- 5:47Speaker 3: like I feel like I'd rather if I was in
- 5:49Speaker 3: your case, I'd rather check my phone every five minutes,
- 5:51Speaker 3: get like a nice summary with no noise, and respond.
- 5:54Speaker 4: At all like are you is your is your volume on?
- 5:57Speaker 4: Like you're getting like ding ding.
- 5:58Speaker 5: Ding ding ding I have I've not had my volume
- 6:01Speaker 5: on my phone since two thousand and nine. I think, no,
- 6:06Speaker 5: I don't have that on. I try to do. This
- 6:10Speaker 5: is going to sound way too nuanced for conversation like this,
- 6:13Speaker 5: but like curate my notifications. So my big thing is
- 6:17Speaker 5: I also have an Apple Watch, and so my phone
- 6:20Speaker 5: gets all of the notifications, but I have curated notifications
- 6:24Speaker 5: going to the watch, so I know I need to
- 6:25Speaker 5: respond to those ones quickly, and then on the computer
- 6:29Speaker 5: and the phone, which I'm inevitably on one of those
- 6:31Speaker 5: pretty much every waking mode of my life, I'll see
- 6:34Speaker 5: the notifications as they come in.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Anyways, you answer when I text you, you answer very fast,
- 6:39Speaker 3: So I like to think I'm on the top of
- 6:41Speaker 3: the of the curation.
- 6:43Speaker 1: You're on the watch.
- 6:44Speaker 5: That's how I pride myself.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm on the watch. That's it. No, it's getting Yeah,
- 6:51Speaker 4: I'm always on do not disturb man.
- 6:52Speaker 3: A lot of times because of work, I don't really
- 6:54Speaker 3: want I'm allowed to have my phone at work because
- 6:58Speaker 3: of my position, but I also don't want to be
- 7:01Speaker 3: I already get enough of the phantom vibrates where I
- 7:04Speaker 3: feel like I got a notification and then I you
- 7:06Speaker 3: know what I mean. But post notification on Instagram are
- 7:10Speaker 3: kind of annoying now because Instagram will send you stuff
- 7:13Speaker 3: that like they think like you want their a notification.
- 7:16Speaker 3: They're like, oh new reel by so and so based.
- 7:19Speaker 4: On your interests. I'm like, I don't want that shit.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Get that out of here, man, I don't want that.
- 7:25Speaker 3: But yeah, this is so funny, man, because every day
- 7:27Speaker 3: I feel like I end my day with a browse
- 7:29Speaker 3: of your Instagram page and I don't know how you
- 7:33Speaker 3: do it.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Yeah, some days are crazier than others to the last,
- 7:36Speaker 5: Like this week theoretically overall has been quite light and
- 7:40Speaker 5: it's still I don't know, I'm probably gonna have thirty
- 7:43Speaker 5: five things to cover on my show this week. But
- 7:46Speaker 5: I mean there's some days I prioritize the ones that
- 7:50Speaker 5: are important to a lot of people, and I find
- 7:51Speaker 5: a lot of smaller ones that I'll just hold off
- 7:53Speaker 5: till the end of the day and then at like
- 7:55Speaker 5: eight pm, I'll put out a bradge of like nine
- 7:57Speaker 5: in a row and yep, it gets pretty rough.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it's a lot, man.
- 8:02Speaker 3: But it's super cool though, because I love having just
- 8:05Speaker 3: like a go to spot where it's not there's a
- 8:08Speaker 3: couple of those pages where you know, every third post
- 8:12Speaker 3: is like a it's like a guess or like an
- 8:14Speaker 3: insider info of what's coming in. I don't like being
- 8:17Speaker 3: misled into what I think is coming out. I want
- 8:19Speaker 3: to see, like act factual, Okay, this is coming. So
- 8:24Speaker 3: I always love going on your page and browsing around,
- 8:27Speaker 3: you know, It's one of my favorite pastimes.
- 8:29Speaker 5: You know.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Just sometimes I just you know, like when I'm stressing out,
- 8:34Speaker 3: I just go to disconnected Instagram page and I just
- 8:37Speaker 3: scroll for hours, and then I remind myself of what
- 8:39Speaker 3: came out in twenty twenty one February.
- 8:43Speaker 5: That's a long time to scroll to get back constantly.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Here we go, what came out then?
- 8:50Speaker 3: H No, It's crazy to me, man, that Umbrella's getting
- 8:53Speaker 3: ready to launch or announce February titles like true.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Oh my god, man, it's so it's so far, it
- 9:02Speaker 4: feels so far away.
- 9:03Speaker 3: It's not I hate that I'm already kind of accruing
- 9:08Speaker 3: a little bit of a list of what I might
- 9:10Speaker 3: want to buy Q one of twenty twenty six and
- 9:13Speaker 3: it's only end of October, not even end of October,
- 9:16Speaker 3: three quarters of away through.
- 9:17Speaker 5: October, and you haven't even hit Black Friday sales yet.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Oh my god, dude, I'm not going to participate this year.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I don't think. I don't think I'm want to participate
- 9:25Speaker 4: in a lot of them. Been on a bit of a.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Buying uh not buy buy, buying band, buying freeze, buying freeze. Well,
- 9:37Speaker 3: I feel like, all right, maybe we'll get into maybe,
- 9:40Speaker 3: let's let's get in this now right. I put out
- 9:42Speaker 3: a thing on Instagram where I wanted to essentially fall
- 9:47Speaker 3: back in love with my collection because I don't want
- 9:50Speaker 3: to be buying as much. And there's this terrible thing
- 9:53Speaker 3: that happens where the thing that set this off was
- 9:57Speaker 3: I was kind of putting things away in the collection
- 10:00Speaker 3: and I came across with the reanimator Ignite Films four
- 10:04Speaker 3: K and I picked it up and I was like,
- 10:06Speaker 3: remember when this was the entire community at one time,
- 10:10Speaker 3: Like everybody was excited or not. Maybe if you weren't
- 10:15Speaker 3: excited for it, maybe you were just talking about it.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Everyone was getting it in, it was unboxing, there's all
- 10:20Speaker 3: this stuff, and then it felt like three days long.
- 10:22Speaker 3: That lasted, and then nobody talked about it again. Then
- 10:27Speaker 3: second site announces theirs, and now it's just the internet going, oh,
- 10:33Speaker 3: should we sell the Ignite one and buy this one instead?
- 10:38Speaker 3: And it just feels like this stuff comes and goes
- 10:40Speaker 3: so fast, Like you guys, remember when everyone was losing
- 10:42Speaker 3: their mind because Grindhouse was gonna put out The Beyond.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Everyone was.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Like, dude, it's gonna be in the book. It's like
- 10:48Speaker 3: it looks like it's a leather bound there's six discs.
- 10:52Speaker 3: And it felt like that lasted for three minutes before
- 10:56Speaker 3: we were thinking about something else.
- 10:59Speaker 4: I want to stop that.
- 11:01Speaker 3: I want to continue the conversation. What I mean, we
- 11:07Speaker 3: put this stuff like, I just want to how do
- 11:11Speaker 3: I put it?
- 11:12Speaker 5: Like?
- 11:13Speaker 3: I want to sit down and spend more time with
- 11:16Speaker 3: the titles that I have. And when I went through
- 11:19Speaker 3: like CELZ, I actually erased my entire database and then
- 11:22Speaker 3: I relogged it all back in because what I do,
- 11:26Speaker 3: if if everybody can see Ryan's eyes just now, what
- 11:31Speaker 3: I do is I put everything in celz is unwatched,
- 11:36Speaker 3: and then when I'll watch it, and then I click
- 11:38Speaker 3: it as watched. So so far, I've watched ten since
- 11:41Speaker 3: I've re databased my entire collection, and I have to
- 11:46Speaker 3: tell you, guys, some of the stuff that I've been
- 11:49Speaker 3: revisiting I haven't revisited in years. And I am loving
- 11:53Speaker 3: the fact that I sat back down with them, watched
- 11:56Speaker 3: the bonus features that I didn't watch before because it
- 11:59Speaker 3: went at one point in time, it went back on
- 12:01Speaker 3: the shelf and it never came back off again. So
- 12:05Speaker 3: like I watched Pee Wee's Big Adventure, whichever was a
- 12:09Speaker 3: little weird because the Criterion's coming out. I was like,
- 12:11Speaker 3: I probably should have held off and waited for the
- 12:13Speaker 3: you know, criterion to come out. But today I watched
- 12:18Speaker 3: Terrifier two with Damian Leoni's commentary, and I'm like, fuck, dude,
- 12:24Speaker 3: this is so good. Like when a Terrifier set came
- 12:26Speaker 3: out from Umbrella, everyone was all about that now and
- 12:29Speaker 3: then that was done. Right five minutes people talked about that,
- 12:31Speaker 3: and then that was that was done.
- 12:35Speaker 4: I don't know, do you guys ever feel that way
- 12:36Speaker 4: about the stuff that's on your shelves.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I've felt that, and I felt that you
- 12:43Speaker 1: brought it up the beyond because I remember we were
- 12:46Speaker 1: doing a live when that dropped and we all pre
- 12:52Speaker 1: ordered it together. But I remember specifically talking about it,
- 12:57Speaker 1: and it just it went away so fast, and another one,
- 13:03Speaker 1: Oh what was it? There was something else, and it
- 13:05Speaker 1: was just I just thought about it. It'll come back
- 13:07Speaker 1: to me. But I had waited a little bit of
- 13:10Speaker 1: time to really digest and do the special features and
- 13:15Speaker 1: everything until I was ready to talk about it. And
- 13:17Speaker 1: by that time everyone was past it. They were already
- 13:20Speaker 1: on the next three past three releases. And it was
- 13:25Speaker 1: just crazy to me that, you know, a lot of
- 13:29Speaker 1: collectors they purchased these big additions that have all the
- 13:33Speaker 1: special features and halftimes, they don't even watch them. They
- 13:37Speaker 1: just they watched the disc and that's about it. Then
- 13:39Speaker 1: he gets put up there and I, you know, I'm
- 13:41Speaker 1: with you guys, to where it's like, there's so much
- 13:44Speaker 1: good stuff in there. You could learn and even gained
- 13:48Speaker 1: a new appreciation for the film that you didn't have before,
- 13:50Speaker 1: even you know, before seen at that time. But yeah,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I can't remember the title it was, but there was
- 13:56Speaker 1: a title that I did wait a little bit because
- 13:59Speaker 1: I was really researching it and it seemed like everyone
- 14:03Speaker 1: was over it at that point.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Ryan, I know for you, you know, you're
- 14:09Speaker 3: producing Bonus Features pretty much endlessly.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Now.
- 14:13Speaker 3: You guys are always you guys are always working on something,
- 14:16Speaker 3: and I'm sure you have months years of you know,
- 14:22Speaker 3: you produce it, it's done, you wait for it to
- 14:24Speaker 3: come out, it comes out. You're so excited, right, You're like,
- 14:27Speaker 3: oh my god. And then next thing, you know, like
- 14:29Speaker 3: you're already three more projects deep. And that's just kind
- 14:32Speaker 3: of in the past now.
- 14:34Speaker 5: I wish it was only three at this point. I mean,
- 14:36Speaker 5: there are times where I post an announcement for something
- 14:41Speaker 5: and I have to think and go, I think I
- 14:43Speaker 5: turned this in for the Special Features like five months ago,
- 14:47Speaker 5: and it feels like like eighteen months ago because just
- 14:51Speaker 5: so much has happened since then and the way the
- 14:53Speaker 5: industry moves. I mean a lot of people don't understand this,
- 14:57Speaker 5: but our first three commentary that we recorded, which were
- 15:01Speaker 5: recorded late July or early August of twenty twenty three.
- 15:07Speaker 5: None of our first three commentaries have actually been released
- 15:10Speaker 5: on disc yet, and it is nearing the end of
- 15:15Speaker 5: twenty twenty five and two of those have been announced
- 15:17Speaker 5: and will they will be out on disc, hopefully by
- 15:19Speaker 5: the end of the year, maybe you know, January of
- 15:22Speaker 5: next year. The other one hasn't even been announced yet,
- 15:24Speaker 5: and it wasn't even necessarily because of problems. It was
- 15:27Speaker 5: because of good things. I believe they found that they
- 15:29Speaker 5: can go four K on the title. But I still
- 15:31Speaker 5: can't even talk about it. I'm a different person now
- 15:34Speaker 5: that thing came out ages ago. My entire feeling on
- 15:38Speaker 5: so much of this has evolved about the entire industry
- 15:41Speaker 5: has evolved since summer of twenty twenty three, and so yeah,
- 15:46Speaker 5: I really do try to give as much as I
- 15:49Speaker 5: can for stuff that's coming in, But the reality is
- 15:53Speaker 5: I kind of have to binge a lot of these
- 15:57Speaker 5: in very short bursts. And so I'll have have, you know,
- 16:01Speaker 5: four or five discs that I know I want to
- 16:02Speaker 5: watch the special features on that I've seen the movie before,
- 16:05Speaker 5: so I'll only put in the disc to watch a
- 16:07Speaker 5: special feature or two and then pop it back out
- 16:09Speaker 5: and put in the other one sometimes and even that
- 16:12Speaker 5: it's so rare. I mean right now, like when I'm
- 16:14Speaker 5: doing a visual essay, by the time it's released on disc,
- 16:17Speaker 5: I've probably watched the film eate times. Yeah, I'm probably
- 16:20Speaker 5: not gonna watch that movie again for a very long time.
- 16:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:25Speaker 3: I just did that with The Frighteners, So that came
- 16:28Speaker 3: up as like one of the first when I kind
- 16:30Speaker 3: of restarted when I started this project, and The Frighteners
- 16:33Speaker 3: came up and I watched it, and then I realized
- 16:36Speaker 3: that I had a four hour making of documentary. And
- 16:39Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm like, I love this, like I love
- 16:42Speaker 3: you Peter Jackson, and I love that it's broken up
- 16:45Speaker 3: into chapters. But yeah, two days later, I had to
- 16:48Speaker 3: reput the disc in to kind of go through, and
- 16:51Speaker 3: I think I got through, you know, maybe half of it.
- 16:54Speaker 3: So now I gotta, you know, go back and put
- 16:56Speaker 3: it in again. It's crazy, man, sometimes how extensive they are.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Today I watched Halloween two and then I was gonna
- 17:04Speaker 3: watch the Screen Factory, the making of and then I
- 17:08Speaker 3: realized it's like an hour and fifteen minutes long, and
- 17:11Speaker 3: I was like, I gotta try that another day. So
- 17:13Speaker 3: I like mental note, Like what I'll do is if
- 17:15Speaker 3: I don't feel like watching a movie, I'll go into
- 17:19Speaker 3: my watch on Celz and see which ones I've watched
- 17:21Speaker 3: I haven't watched the bonus features for, and then I'll
- 17:23Speaker 3: kind of go back and retouch on it. But sometimes
- 17:26Speaker 3: it's really hard man like blessed to have releases with
- 17:30Speaker 3: very cohesive bonus features. But then also sometimes after you
- 17:34Speaker 3: sit down for a movie, a two hour movie, and
- 17:37Speaker 3: then you have two hours of interviews to watch, it's
- 17:39Speaker 3: a little bit like an endurance tests, you kind of
- 17:43Speaker 3: got to take a break, and you know, you know,
- 17:47Speaker 3: It's how I feel like with everything. Like I remember
- 17:50Speaker 3: when I was diving through the Severn's Black and Manuel set,
- 17:53Speaker 3: I'm like, my god, this thing is so comprehensive. I'm
- 17:56Speaker 3: like to even get through half the set. I'm like,
- 18:00Speaker 3: there's no way there's people reviewing this set six months
- 18:03Speaker 3: after it comes out. There's more than six months worth
- 18:05Speaker 3: of material on here. And then you have the book
- 18:08Speaker 3: and then the commentaries and then like it's it's education.
- 18:13Speaker 4: In a box.
- 18:15Speaker 3: And I think that's gonna be kind of one of
- 18:18Speaker 3: our big things with next year on this show is
- 18:23Speaker 3: we really want to preach that physical media is education,
- 18:27Speaker 3: and it's sort of like a hard it's it's sort
- 18:29Speaker 3: of a hard thing for a lot of people to
- 18:31Speaker 3: understand because most people are buying studio releases that are
- 18:35Speaker 3: not trying to educate you. They just want you to
- 18:38Speaker 3: buy the movie, you know, the ePK extras that they
- 18:42Speaker 3: cut out of it and then move on. So it's
- 18:44Speaker 3: really only for more the boutique releases that are and
- 18:48Speaker 3: not even all of them. I'd say there's even a
- 18:50Speaker 3: smaller percentage of boutiques that are really focused on, you know, education.
- 18:55Speaker 3: But I really want to find a way to do
- 18:57Speaker 3: that more because you learn so much. Man, Like it's
- 19:00Speaker 3: all there, Like you can have like behind you, Jordan
- 19:03Speaker 3: behind you, Ryan behind me, Like there's a very interesting
- 19:07Speaker 3: film school there, you know what I mean.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, specific titles are immense in what they share.
- 19:17Speaker 5: I mean, there are lots of people nowadays that are saying, like,
- 19:21Speaker 5: if you grew up on some of these things, there's
- 19:23Speaker 5: not really a reason to go to film school. You've
- 19:25Speaker 5: learned a lot of it through the commentaries and stuff.
- 19:29Speaker 5: It is a level where if you're curated properly, and
- 19:33Speaker 5: you're not just like ingesting the titles that are there
- 19:38Speaker 5: for like, I don't know, get high and watch on
- 19:41Speaker 5: a couch time, which many of these are, and I
- 19:44Speaker 5: will happily admit that, and I've worked on many of
- 19:46Speaker 5: those myself. If you're choosing the right ones, it is
- 19:49Speaker 5: enough to like not only inspire but like give you
- 19:54Speaker 5: the tools to actually go out and make choices that
- 19:57Speaker 5: are creative and new and interrupting things. And now the
- 20:01Speaker 5: tools that you have in your pocket are better than
- 20:04Speaker 5: many of those filmmakers had, And that alone is crazy.
- 20:08Speaker 5: You can be not for super cheap, but for fairly
- 20:11Speaker 5: inexpensive compared to four years that NYU, you can be
- 20:16Speaker 5: pretty fully equipped to go make a feature length film.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Yeah, and the exposures there man. You know, recently, I've
- 20:23Speaker 3: been listening to a lot of let me pull up
- 20:27Speaker 3: what this podcast is? I think I know it in
- 20:30Speaker 3: my head, but then I'm like, I don't want to
- 20:32Speaker 3: mess up this name here Perverse Permission, which is Sam
- 20:37Speaker 3: Degan's podcast with Oscar Bait pod. I was listening to
- 20:41Speaker 3: their show, which I think is incredible, but one of
- 20:48Speaker 3: the first couple episodes were covering pink films, which I
- 20:51Speaker 3: knew nothing about, right I listening to them and I
- 20:55Speaker 3: knew nothing about anything they were talking about. So what
- 20:58Speaker 3: that did was that kind of got me re searching
- 21:00Speaker 3: a little bit more. And then it just so happened
- 21:02Speaker 3: that Vinegar Syndrome announced the first title in their pink line,
- 21:06Speaker 3: which is in which I didn't get yet because of
- 21:10Speaker 3: that delay, but I ordered it and I'm very excited
- 21:13Speaker 3: to get into that. So sometimes going into this stuff
- 21:16Speaker 3: like you can learn, you know what I mean a
- 21:19Speaker 3: lot by just kind of blindly diving into something and
- 21:21Speaker 3: we'll kind of see, I'm interested to see kind of what.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Well. I hope it doesn't become like a new fascination
- 21:28Speaker 4: of mine already have enough. But like, for for example,
- 21:32Speaker 4: Ryan Jordan here, I don't know if he was planning
- 21:36Speaker 4: on talking about these later, but he picked up a
- 21:39Speaker 4: couple of genrell On titles which would be his first exposure.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I did. And actually I have, Chris, I have
- 21:48Speaker 1: you to think because you've you've talked about Genrelan an
- 21:53Speaker 1: immense amount of times about how much you love his stuff,
- 21:56Speaker 1: and I just kept hearing about it, hearing about it,
- 21:58Speaker 1: and I think it was maybe a week or so ago.
- 22:04Speaker 1: I hit him up, said, Hey, if I was to
- 22:06Speaker 1: dive into gen Rowland, where do I start? And yours?
- 22:10Speaker 1: You said Fascination in the two or vampires, and I
- 22:15Speaker 1: actually I do have those coming, by the way, I
- 22:16Speaker 1: haven't told you good but that is coming probably by
- 22:20Speaker 1: the end of the week. But anyways, I grabbed these
- 22:23Speaker 1: two because they were readily available. But the Escapees and
- 22:28Speaker 1: Requiem for a Vampire. Now, I watched the trailer for
- 22:33Speaker 1: both of these and they look like a trip. And
- 22:36Speaker 1: from what I'm hearing from you, Chris, is that it's
- 22:39Speaker 1: very I think you said artsy. Well, that's, for lack
- 22:46Speaker 1: of a better term, I don't know. I get that.
- 22:49Speaker 3: I don't really know how to explain most of his work.
- 22:55Speaker 3: There's just like a very I mean, Ryan, I don't
- 23:00Speaker 3: know if you're a fan of his, but how would
- 23:03Speaker 3: you explain what it's like watching a John Rowland film? Genre?
- 23:08Speaker 2: Lan?
- 23:09Speaker 5: Right, it's genre, Lan. Yeah, it is very dreamy and
- 23:15Speaker 5: fascination is the right entry point because it's accessible and
- 23:19Speaker 5: Brigitte le Haye is beautiful in it and all that,
- 23:22Speaker 5: but it is not super dreamy compared to a lot
- 23:26Speaker 5: of the other ones, and so it's bordering on Hey,
- 23:29Speaker 5: this kind of makes sense, which is helpful. But yeah,
- 23:34Speaker 5: it's it's kind of this interesting blend of not quite
- 23:38Speaker 5: experimental filmmaking, but more like ethereal filmmaking, Like everything is
- 23:43Speaker 5: coming with a presence behind it, and you can feel
- 23:47Speaker 5: that through the filmmaking.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Would you say, because like another recommendation from Chris was
- 23:53Speaker 1: Santa Sandre. So I loved that movie. I thought it
- 23:58Speaker 1: was great. So from what I hear, I don't know
- 24:00Speaker 1: if it's similar or if it's in that vein of filmmaking.
- 24:07Speaker 5: No, there's a couple scenes in Santa Soanra that I
- 24:12Speaker 5: would say almost nail the feeling of some of the genre,
- 24:16Speaker 5: but Santa Songre is its own beast entirely. Yeah. God,
- 24:20Speaker 5: that's that's a magnificent movie.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I'm glad you like that one, Dude, that that film
- 24:23Speaker 1: was incredible.
- 24:25Speaker 3: You have to you have to when you put on
- 24:28Speaker 3: like Recoion for a Vampire or The Escapees, you have
- 24:30Speaker 3: to kind of give yourself over to it. Don't try
- 24:35Speaker 3: to think about where you're at in the plot or
- 24:39Speaker 3: think about just give yourself over. And for me, his
- 24:43Speaker 3: films are such a visual practice, like he's so purposeful
- 24:49Speaker 3: in every image. Like the books for those Indicator releases
- 24:53Speaker 3: are incredible because they're not like any other like labels books.
- 24:59Speaker 3: The they interview people who are sometimes so loosely involved
- 25:04Speaker 3: but were like inspiration somehow in his life. So they
- 25:07Speaker 3: kind of will give you a little bit more of
- 25:10Speaker 3: kind of like this very this education that's kind of
- 25:14Speaker 3: around the movie more than it is about the movie,
- 25:18Speaker 3: Like in I think it's either Nude Vampire or I
- 25:25Speaker 3: think it was a nude Vampire or Shiver the Vampire.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Half the book is about an artist that genre was
- 25:33Speaker 3: inspired by, so it had nothing to do Two of
- 25:35Speaker 3: the write ups had nothing to do with the movie,
- 25:37Speaker 3: but it was about the artists who inspired some of
- 25:39Speaker 3: the imagery that inspired like you know what I mean, Yeah,
- 25:43Speaker 3: it's kind of interesting. Fascination is the best starting point
- 25:48Speaker 3: because it's much more straightforward and it's storytelling than most
- 25:54Speaker 3: of his other movies are.
- 25:57Speaker 4: But you're gonna do a lot of like all right,
- 25:59Speaker 4: what's going on? Like what do we just give yourself
- 26:02Speaker 4: over to it?
- 26:03Speaker 1: I'm excited. Yeah, I've been you, Chris. You've introduced me
- 26:07Speaker 1: to some a lot of stuff that well, now Genreland
- 26:12Speaker 1: or genre Lan. Yeah, and it's not a songwriter. And
- 26:16Speaker 1: even Von Treyer, I mean that that guy just I'm
- 26:21Speaker 1: every time I see his movies, I am amazed that
- 26:25Speaker 1: I never thought a film could look more beautiful than
- 26:27Speaker 1: it already is, or that film could be. And I'm
- 26:30Speaker 1: just just the Like even the opening shot to Antichrist,
- 26:35Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, this is gorgeous.
- 26:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it's crazy disturbed, but it looks good.
- 26:42Speaker 3: I love it there, dude, I love like I used
- 26:46Speaker 3: to kind of try to hide it, but like I
- 26:49Speaker 3: give in now to Like I mean, I'm pretty much
- 26:52Speaker 3: into some.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Like like six Ship, like I love you know, like
- 26:57Speaker 4: I love the variety of our collection. You know.
- 27:01Speaker 3: It's like when I was cataloging, I actually had to
- 27:06Speaker 3: go into the Celz settings and activate the adult movies
- 27:11Speaker 3: option because some movies crossover, you know what I mean.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Where It's like like when I was cataloging Severin, I
- 27:17Speaker 3: couldn't catalog the the three ed Wood films in the
- 27:20Speaker 3: Hardwood set without without turning that on. There's just some
- 27:26Speaker 3: stuff that when I actually have a couple of like
- 27:28Speaker 3: the Vinegar syndrome, like Pono Theater DVDs where it's like
- 27:34Speaker 3: an all night marathon of adult I had to I
- 27:36Speaker 3: had to turn that off to get those logged into collection.
- 27:42Speaker 3: You know, dude, I don't. Sometimes my wife walks out,
- 27:45Speaker 3: She's like, what the fuck are you watching now?
- 27:48Speaker 4: I don't know. It's just gonna keep going.
- 27:49Speaker 3: And honestly, sometimes genre on gets there like it'll well.
- 27:55Speaker 1: I was. I was skimming through the booklet uh, mainly
- 27:59Speaker 1: for Requiem for a Vampire before we came on, and
- 28:01Speaker 1: I was like, okay, I I I after you explain that,
- 28:05Speaker 1: I could see that.
- 28:07Speaker 4: It was girls without cause my wife walked in on
- 28:10Speaker 4: or aka schoolgirl Hitchhikers, not a I don't think that.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it is a genre on film, but yeah
- 28:16Speaker 3: that when that came out from Indicator, I couldn't find
- 28:19Speaker 3: any information about it on the internet, and through it
- 28:23Speaker 3: on one night, I'm like, let me just watch this,
- 28:25Speaker 3: and yeah, it.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Went pretty you know.
- 28:28Speaker 3: And sometimes man, like you know, back into seventies, they
- 28:30Speaker 3: weren't worried about piecing, you know, so like you're just
- 28:34Speaker 3: stuck on one frame for four minutes and nothing's happening
- 28:39Speaker 3: and nothing's changing, and you're just going and you're like, God,
- 28:42Speaker 3: this is an eighteen minute long soft core scene and
- 28:46Speaker 3: oh my god, yeah it gets there.
- 28:52Speaker 5: If I can. I know that this is hard because
- 28:54Speaker 5: you've already talked about seeing some of the genre On
- 28:57Speaker 5: stuff but a couple of years ago, and I don't
- 28:59Speaker 5: know if you know who she is, but Kat Ellinger,
- 29:01Speaker 5: who was a frequent contributor to many of these releases,
- 29:04Speaker 5: she directed a document or co directed a documentary called
- 29:07Speaker 5: Orchestrator of Storms that is all about genre On's films
- 29:12Speaker 5: and it is truly like the best entry point to
- 29:15Speaker 5: him as a filmmaker. They don't really spoil any of
- 29:18Speaker 5: the films, but it does give you the overall feeling
- 29:21Speaker 5: for what you're going to get. And she dives into
- 29:24Speaker 5: the idea of a genre called the fantastique and how
- 29:28Speaker 5: it's like this mix of you know, experimental cinema and
- 29:34Speaker 5: erotica and dreary sort of ethereal mood films that have
- 29:41Speaker 5: no plot sometimes and it's a really well made documentary.
- 29:46Speaker 5: I'm not even sure if it's available right now, so
- 29:48Speaker 5: I'm sorry if you go to look this up after
- 29:50Speaker 5: and you can't find it. But well, it was never
- 29:54Speaker 5: released on disk. As far as I know, I think
- 29:56Speaker 5: it was digital only. I think it was theoretically being
- 29:59Speaker 5: worked on be put on disc, and I don't know
- 30:01Speaker 5: what's happened since then, so try to find it.
- 30:04Speaker 4: I wonder if if I if I've talked I've talked.
- 30:07Speaker 3: To her a couple of times just on Instagram. I
- 30:08Speaker 3: wonder if I reach out to her if she might
- 30:10Speaker 3: have access to it.
- 30:12Speaker 5: She absolutely has a link because she sent it to me.
- 30:16Speaker 5: That's I watched it.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Okay, you're I'll reach out to her and ask her.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I'd love to check that out.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Well.
- 30:21Speaker 3: She I actually spent like a half hour watching something
- 30:25Speaker 3: like hers last night because last night I watched Killer
- 30:27Speaker 3: None and she has an incredible nonspolitation visual essay on
- 30:34Speaker 3: that era release of Killer None, and it's pretty, you know,
- 30:38Speaker 3: it's it's amazing, man, like when you when you go
- 30:41Speaker 3: down the rabbit hole, the places you'll go, Man, it really,
- 30:46Speaker 3: you know, opens your eyes. I've been on a little
- 30:47Speaker 3: bit of a nonsplolitation kick because I finally saw Ken
- 30:51Speaker 3: Russell's The Devils UH for the first time, and then
- 30:54Speaker 3: I started with The Devils and then I went into.
- 30:58Speaker 4: I can never say his name right man, Willarium Border
- 31:03Speaker 4: Chick right, is that.
- 31:05Speaker 5: It was like this that's close. Yeah, I think it's brochick,
- 31:09Speaker 5: but something like that.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, so I got into I watched Behind Convent
- 31:15Speaker 3: Walls and then I watched uh le merge them, uh
- 31:22Speaker 3: what is his movie called, and just kind of started
- 31:28Speaker 3: going down rabbit holes. I was working like an hour
- 31:30Speaker 3: away one day that I was kind of doing some
- 31:34Speaker 3: research on it, and I found a podcast.
- 31:35Speaker 4: It was the Oh my god, I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 31:39Speaker 4: forget what's called.
- 31:40Speaker 3: But it was like a four hour podcast with Sam
- 31:42Speaker 3: Degan about this one movie and it I was. I
- 31:47Speaker 3: was in it, man, I was making mental notes and yeah.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Then I the other night I was like, I haven't
- 31:54Speaker 3: watched anything nun Spolitation in a while and Killer None,
- 31:58Speaker 3: which is which is fantastic. I don't know if either
- 31:59Speaker 3: of you gus I've seen that, but uh, that's a
- 32:02Speaker 3: great one.
- 32:03Speaker 5: It's not a while ago, it's it's it's one of
- 32:05Speaker 5: the better n exploitations for me at least.
- 32:08Speaker 4: What's your thoughts on Behind Convent Walls.
- 32:11Speaker 5: It's sleazier in a couple of weird ways. It's certainly
- 32:15Speaker 5: not a favorite, but it's worth watching.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, it's I didn't. I don't know if I
- 32:24Speaker 3: loved it. I didn't love it. I didn't really love
- 32:27Speaker 3: it until I finished it and I went onto letterbox
- 32:30Speaker 3: and I read a Simon Baker review of it where
- 32:34Speaker 3: he mentioned, like, watch it as a comedy, you know,
- 32:38Speaker 3: just as like a little bit of a shock of
- 32:40Speaker 3: seeing nuns doing this sort of stuff. He's like, and
- 32:43Speaker 3: it's a much better experience. And then once I kind
- 32:45Speaker 3: of reframed it and gave it like seventy two hours,
- 32:47Speaker 3: in my mind, I.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Liked it a little bit more. But I didn't go
- 32:50Speaker 4: out and buy the Arrow Blu Ray if that says
- 32:52Speaker 4: anything about my.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Continued thoughts on that. But yeah, Jordan, you're gonna have fun.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Getting anothers Man Indicator has been a little bit of
- 33:04Speaker 3: a weakness of mine. Like I love everything. I just
- 33:06Speaker 3: I ordered a little bit ago. I as a committed
- 33:08Speaker 3: yet but I got a death Carry's a Cane, which
- 33:11Speaker 3: I'm very excited.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Man.
- 33:12Speaker 4: I love how slim their releases are, how well they
- 33:14Speaker 4: fit also, like they do.
- 33:17Speaker 3: They put out a lot of good stuff from like honestly,
- 33:21Speaker 3: from General On Knight, the Hunted or the Demoniacs or
- 33:25Speaker 3: demon Domaniacs, I don't know how to say that that title,
- 33:28Speaker 3: but those are also great, you know, So.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Two with Indicator is the price. I think they're priced
- 33:35Speaker 1: so well for what you're getting. I think they are,
- 33:39Speaker 1: and I mean compared to a lot of the other releases,
- 33:41Speaker 1: and the stuff you're getting I think is really good.
- 33:44Speaker 3: I just got black Magic Rights from them, and it
- 33:46Speaker 3: was like eighteen dollars for the deluxe edition.
- 33:50Speaker 4: I was like shocked that how cheap that?
- 33:52Speaker 3: Well, actually, right now, there's a bunch on say, I
- 33:54Speaker 3: think the two Mexican Vampire Film Collection. I forget the
- 33:57Speaker 3: name of the collection that's on sale right now. I know,
- 34:03Speaker 3: uh the uh, there's like there's a couple I think,
- 34:07Speaker 3: my god, why is it every time I click record
- 34:10Speaker 3: on a podcast I forget everything I ever knew.
- 34:14Speaker 5: Well, I'll take this moment to say their sight wide
- 34:17Speaker 5: sale is about to launch, so you don't even need
- 34:19Speaker 5: to think of titles. Everything will be on sale pretty
- 34:22Speaker 5: much unless it's released in like the last few months.
- 34:25Speaker 5: I think, but uh, that should be launching here. I
- 34:29Speaker 5: think the twenty seventh, twenty six, twenty seven, something like that.
- 34:32Speaker 4: Couple day, A couple days.
- 34:33Speaker 3: I wish, I wish, I had Ryan like a almost
- 34:35Speaker 3: like Siri on my phone. Yeah, I can just like,
- 34:38Speaker 3: hey Rock, double tap my phone Like.
- 34:42Speaker 5: You have no idea how many people use me like that?
- 34:44Speaker 5: Already ask you.
- 34:46Speaker 4: A question real quick like my chat GPT. I'll just
- 34:50Speaker 4: set up as a run You'll.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Just it'd be his name in your in your phone.
- 34:57Speaker 3: Well, how about we get into to some pickups. I mean, Jordan,
- 35:02Speaker 3: I don't know where you want to. I don't know
- 35:05Speaker 3: if you want to consider those two Roland titles. Is
- 35:08Speaker 3: part of your pickups or do you have some other stuff?
- 35:10Speaker 1: Well you know what's funny as they were, So we'll
- 35:12Speaker 1: just count that as those two because I was going
- 35:15Speaker 1: to talk about those because those literally showed up today
- 35:18Speaker 1: along with Gretel and Hansel I got on sale and
- 35:22Speaker 1: I didn't I didn't have it. But that's that's not
- 35:25Speaker 1: part of this. The first you got to get.
- 35:26Speaker 4: You gotta get that before they shut down.
- 35:28Speaker 1: I forgot about yeah right, not not new management or anything.
- 35:33Speaker 1: They're they're going under. But I picked this up. I'm
- 35:39Speaker 1: I'm so happy that this finally showed up. Uh from
- 35:43Speaker 1: Terror Vision and Invader. When when this got announced and
- 35:48Speaker 1: I checked that trailer and I think it was just
- 35:50Speaker 1: a teaser where the guy just walks into the house.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I was like, oh man, I'm I'm picking that up.
- 35:55Speaker 1: So that was like an immediate, immediate pre order. So
- 35:58Speaker 1: glad it finally showed up. And that's a thing.
- 36:00Speaker 2: You know.
- 36:00Speaker 1: I've heard a lot of people complain about Terror Vision
- 36:02Speaker 1: and the wait times, but look, I always tell them
- 36:05Speaker 1: it's worth it every time. I don't even complain. You're
- 36:08Speaker 1: gonna you're gonna love it.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Listen, and Ryan is the complaints department for Terror Vision.
- 36:13Speaker 3: There you go, redirect all complaints to.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I'll send in my letters to Ryan R.
- 36:19Speaker 5: Do you get a thirty seven notifications in the last
- 36:21Speaker 5: twelve seconds.
- 36:23Speaker 1: All from me?
- 36:25Speaker 5: I mean, I don't get a ton of that, but
- 36:27Speaker 5: funny enough, I do get a lot of that. And
- 36:32Speaker 5: the sad thing is it's not just Terror Vision. I'll
- 36:34Speaker 5: have people I'll get dms on the Facebook account that'll
- 36:38Speaker 5: say like, hey, I bought this like six months ago.
- 36:40Speaker 5: Should I email them? And it's not just TerrorVision. It's
- 36:43Speaker 5: like some some some company in the UK. And I'm like,
- 36:46Speaker 5: I'm some dude living in Kansas City, Missouri, having nothing
- 36:49Speaker 5: to do with that label. And you're asking me sure,
- 36:52Speaker 5: email them please, yeah, Ryan, tell them I'll beat them
- 36:59Speaker 5: up for their lunch money.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Yeah, flip them upside down, get those pennies out. Did
- 37:03Speaker 3: you did you, Ryan have any hand or anything on
- 37:06Speaker 3: the Invader release?
- 37:08Speaker 5: Literally nothing. I don't think I may have. No. I
- 37:11Speaker 5: did not do the booklet on this one. This year,
- 37:14Speaker 5: I've been doing booklet layouts for some of them, and
- 37:16Speaker 5: I don't think I did that one. It's been a blur.
- 37:19Speaker 5: I feel like January first was like thirty seven lifetimes ago.
- 37:25Speaker 4: Well, I always want to when I have you on,
- 37:26Speaker 4: I always want to ask because I want to make
- 37:28Speaker 4: sure that we spotlight if you did so.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, well how about this because this one it
- 37:34Speaker 1: came in the other day a Sledgehammer. Did you do
- 37:36Speaker 1: anything with that one?
- 37:37Speaker 5: I did? Yeah, we I've worked quite a bit on
- 37:40Speaker 5: this one. Did the booklet for this one, but also
- 37:42Speaker 5: where my company did the Joe Bob Briggs interview, and
- 37:45Speaker 5: that's it's a special one. I mean to get him
- 37:48Speaker 5: to talk to to talk new content on a film
- 37:51Speaker 5: like Sledgehammer is not a common occurrence, and we were
- 37:54Speaker 5: able to essentially wrangle him at a convention, take him
- 37:59Speaker 5: outside to a bar and shot him for just a
- 38:01Speaker 5: little bit of time. And I think the interview turned
- 38:04Speaker 5: out great. I think it's one of the betest things
- 38:07Speaker 5: on the disc. Myself. I like the movie. I don't
- 38:10Speaker 5: love the movie, but to get this guy that has
- 38:14Speaker 5: been sharing a love of films like this for so long,
- 38:16Speaker 5: to just give a part of his day to once
- 38:20Speaker 5: again like advocating for it, that's rare and I just
- 38:23Speaker 5: love that we could do it.
- 38:25Speaker 4: And did Will do that interview?
- 38:27Speaker 5: He did? Yeah? Will and John Daily they were both
- 38:30Speaker 5: in person for it.
- 38:31Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, yeah, I didn't get I. I was such
- 38:34Speaker 3: a mixed bag when it comes to what I buy
- 38:36Speaker 3: from Terror Vision. Well, I haven't been buying much of
- 38:38Speaker 3: anything lately, but like, there's so much stuff that I
- 38:40Speaker 3: that I want and then I kind of just like
- 38:43Speaker 3: it just moves by so fast.
- 38:45Speaker 5: You know.
- 38:45Speaker 3: I actually have a TerrorVision title in my pickup stack
- 38:49Speaker 3: that came out a while ago, because that's how late.
- 38:53Speaker 3: That's that's the latest new thing that I've bought, you
- 38:55Speaker 3: know what I mean?
- 38:56Speaker 5: Right?
- 38:57Speaker 1: So, yeah, and too terror Vision with all their Hallen announcements,
- 39:01Speaker 1: it's there's so many. I mean, I've got a list
- 39:04Speaker 1: and I but luckily I grab that secret one, so
- 39:09Speaker 1: I'm good with that.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah that The only one I got so
- 39:14Speaker 4: far is Hide and Go shriek.
- 39:16Speaker 3: I still need to get proud of that one. Yeah yeah,
- 39:19Speaker 3: total blind by for me, So we'll see. The secret
- 39:22Speaker 3: title though, was nice, was like, what fifteen bucks?
- 39:25Speaker 5: Fifteen bucks and it's a full release. We're talking, full
- 39:28Speaker 5: slate of special features, blu ray, slipcover everything, like no
- 39:33Speaker 5: other company is brand new releasing a disc high quality
- 39:36Speaker 5: like that.
- 39:37Speaker 4: Geez man, hey Jordan, let me know what it is.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Man, Oh dude, I can't wait, I'm telling you. And
- 39:45Speaker 1: then the last one I have here is from Second
- 39:48Speaker 1: Site Florida Project. Sean Bakers, Florida Project. Really excited to
- 39:52Speaker 1: dive into this. I can't wait. I mean, this is like,
- 39:56Speaker 1: it looks like a behemoth of a release from Second Site.
- 39:59Speaker 1: So I always love second stuff and most of the
- 40:02Speaker 1: time their special features are really well done. So I'm
- 40:04Speaker 1: excited to dive into that. So that that's as far
- 40:07Speaker 1: as pickups fairly recently. Those are the kind of the
- 40:11Speaker 1: four that I was going to talk about, dude, Second
- 40:13Speaker 1: Site is.
- 40:16Speaker 3: It's kind of one of those companies that I'm pretty
- 40:18Speaker 3: good at just like buying instantly almost except like I'm
- 40:21Speaker 3: not gonna get Reanimator because I already have, you know,
- 40:24Speaker 3: the Ignite film's release. I know there is a new
- 40:27Speaker 3: commentary on the second site, but I recently got the
- 40:30Speaker 3: Putscher Trilogy from them because I didn't have the original
- 40:34Speaker 3: release that came out of it. I'm still in defense
- 40:38Speaker 3: about Pearl and Maxine, just because I don't know if
- 40:41Speaker 3: I don't know if my OCD can handle missing missing X.
- 40:45Speaker 3: I understand why I'm not gonna say. I'm not going
- 40:47Speaker 3: to complain that they didn't do X. I know why
- 40:48Speaker 3: they didn't, but uh, you know, my OCD with that
- 40:52Speaker 3: is going to be a little a little wild. Do
- 40:55Speaker 3: I also want to pay one hundred dollars for that
- 40:57Speaker 3: A twenty four set, no to.
- 40:59Speaker 5: Be fair the retail price, because you you can get
- 41:03Speaker 5: it on the twenty four site or pretty much anywhere
- 41:05Speaker 5: else nowadays, because they're selling it anywhere. The four K
- 41:08Speaker 5: version is down to eighty five, and you'll probably be
- 41:10Speaker 5: able to get it on sale as part of something
- 41:12Speaker 5: here soon. So yeah, it's it's feeling a lot better
- 41:16Speaker 5: after that.
- 41:17Speaker 4: I it felt better.
- 41:19Speaker 3: I have a Triple A twenty four with them, so
- 41:21Speaker 3: that saves me, you know, ten bucks on it. Then also, yeah,
- 41:25Speaker 3: they're doing their raffle now for like the lottery ticket
- 41:28Speaker 3: for Triple A twenty four, so I got a twenty
- 41:31Speaker 3: I want a twenty five dollars gift card from that,
- 41:32Speaker 3: and then I also have I think twenty dollars in
- 41:34Speaker 3: site credit, so I just have to get on and
- 41:36Speaker 3: and there are new commentaries on those that I'm excited.
- 41:39Speaker 5: To check out as well well. And if I could
- 41:42Speaker 5: remind you Black Friday, they do a thirty percent off sale,
- 41:46Speaker 5: so you can stack all of that up with that.
- 41:48Speaker 5: If you're a Triple A twenty four, you get thirty
- 41:50Speaker 5: percent off for Black Friday.
- 41:52Speaker 4: H My first Black Friday is Triple A twenty four,
- 41:55Speaker 4: So thank you for that information.
- 41:57Speaker 1: I did not know that.
- 41:58Speaker 3: I also need to get the Maxine not because it's
- 42:00Speaker 3: the only one I'm missing and it drives me nuts.
- 42:02Speaker 3: So that's the only one I was missing of that
- 42:05Speaker 3: of that little collection there.
- 42:06Speaker 1: So I think it's safe to say you're going A
- 42:08Speaker 1: twenty four for the the ex.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Trilogy, Yeah, I think so.
- 42:13Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not the biggest fan of those big
- 42:16Speaker 3: Giant Collectors additions that they do. But I do like
- 42:21Speaker 3: the look of that edition, kind of like with the
- 42:24Speaker 3: clear I don't know if it's a slip or whatever's
- 42:27Speaker 3: over it, and it fits the vibe of the of
- 42:29Speaker 3: the movies really well or more of Maxine very well.
- 42:32Speaker 4: It fits. That's probably what I what I'll do.
- 42:38Speaker 3: I don't know, man, It's such a conundrum all the
- 42:40Speaker 3: time of figuring out exactly what to do, you know,
- 42:44Speaker 3: do I even like I always question, I'm like do
- 42:46Speaker 3: I even do I need those on four K?
- 42:48Speaker 4: I'm like, already have them on Blue? Like do I
- 42:50Speaker 4: you know?
- 42:51Speaker 3: This is just the stuff that I because it's like
- 42:54Speaker 3: sometimes you know, like they're they did the same exact
- 42:57Speaker 3: release on Blu Ray and it's like fifteen dollars cheaper,
- 43:00Speaker 3: So I'm like, do I need these on four K?
- 43:04Speaker 4: Like I'm really.
- 43:04Speaker 3: Only concerned about the bonus features and you know what
- 43:07Speaker 3: I mean that kind of stuff. So these are kind
- 43:09Speaker 3: of the things that I think about too much, you know,
- 43:14Speaker 3: like sometimes it's just cheaper a lot of the Indicator releases, man,
- 43:18Speaker 3: Like I have the Blu Ray versions because they were
- 43:20Speaker 3: like ten dollars cheaper, you know what I mean like
- 43:23Speaker 3: they were still four K restorations, so they still look
- 43:26Speaker 3: yea magnificent.
- 43:29Speaker 4: So yeah, I don't know.
- 43:30Speaker 3: I'm always kind of you know me, man, we're we
- 43:32Speaker 3: in our group chat, you guys will post four k's,
- 43:35Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, don't need it.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Well, what I I crack up is what we'll post
- 43:40Speaker 1: something like you just see this announcement. Oh, here's why
- 43:42Speaker 1: you don't need it, and then there's like your bullet
- 43:44Speaker 1: points just like that.
- 43:47Speaker 3: A lot of times you guys don't know, that's actually
- 43:49Speaker 3: me talking myself out of it. I'm just conveying it
- 43:51Speaker 3: onto you guys as victims, you know what I mean?
- 43:53Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 43:54Speaker 5: Right, Ryan? What about you? Man?
- 43:57Speaker 4: What have you been picking up? I'm really curious about
- 43:59Speaker 4: what you uh, well, you brought the show us.
- 44:02Speaker 5: Sure, well, a couple of weeks ago I had sent you,
- 44:06Speaker 5: I texted you a picture that your podcast episode on
- 44:09Speaker 5: The Devil's Rejects made me buy that book and wanted
- 44:12Speaker 5: to tie that in with the Steel book that just
- 44:14Speaker 5: came out. So I wanted to talk about that tonight.
- 44:17Speaker 5: This is one of those things that I'm fairly like you.
- 44:21Speaker 5: There's a lot of times I don't feel the need
- 44:24Speaker 5: to upgrade to something to four K. But The Devil's
- 44:28Speaker 5: Rejects and overall most of Rob Zombie's filmography is just
- 44:35Speaker 5: so special to me that I will not necessarily upgrade everything,
- 44:39Speaker 5: but I want definitive editions of some of them. And
- 44:42Speaker 5: to me, this looks like the best release of this,
- 44:44Speaker 5: and my old release of The Devil's Rejects is it's
- 44:47Speaker 5: seen better days. I'll say that it's been played so
- 44:50Speaker 5: many times that it's just an old, flimsy, fallen apart
- 44:53Speaker 5: blue ray case. So the steel book looked nice here.
- 44:56Speaker 5: And I love that you were talking about having a
- 44:57Speaker 5: variety of tastes because that is exactly how I curated
- 45:00Speaker 5: this to talk tonight, because after The Devil's Rejects, I
- 45:04Speaker 5: wanted to talk about the Peanuts TV special collection that
- 45:08Speaker 5: just came out through Warner Brothers. I literally have a
- 45:10Speaker 5: Peanuts tattoo on my leg and I love the Peanuts
- 45:13Speaker 5: ever since I was a kid. Not to get super sappy.
- 45:17Speaker 5: My wife calls me Snoopy and I call her Woodstock.
- 45:20Speaker 5: It's been that important for us, and to have a
- 45:23Speaker 5: release like this together for the first time ever is
- 45:27Speaker 5: pretty legendary. Like all of the TV specials are on
- 45:29Speaker 5: here except for five, and they're never going to be
- 45:31Speaker 5: able to license those because one of them is like
- 45:34Speaker 5: Charlie Brand with the Super Bowl or whatever, and the
- 45:36Speaker 5: NFL is like, fuck you, We're never doing it, and
- 45:38Speaker 5: then a handful of others that just won't be possible, sadly.
- 45:42Speaker 5: But to get all of that in one collection is
- 45:45Speaker 5: kind of mind blowing for something that's been around for
- 45:48Speaker 5: like sixty seventy years. I mean, it's a seventy fifth
- 45:50Speaker 5: anniversary and to compile all that takes a ton of work.
- 45:55Speaker 5: The other thing is another one that you've talked about before.
- 45:58Speaker 5: I just got in a t which I try to
- 46:00Speaker 5: do as much as I can because I've got stuff
- 46:02Speaker 5: going out, may as well get decent stuff for it
- 46:04Speaker 5: that i'd appreciate better. I finally got the New Extremity
- 46:08Speaker 5: collection from Umbrella. This is volume one. I've got volume
- 46:12Speaker 5: two or it's on the way one of the two.
- 46:14Speaker 5: I like these films. I am one of the crazy
- 46:17Speaker 5: ones that like New French Extremity. That being said, I
- 46:21Speaker 5: know that we already have a better release of Martyrs,
- 46:23Speaker 5: No big deal. I already have a better release of
- 46:26Speaker 5: I Attention, No big Deal Frontiers. There's actually another release
- 46:29Speaker 5: of this coming out in the next couple of years.
- 46:30Speaker 5: From what I hear, no big deal. This feels like
- 46:33Speaker 5: a really great release of this, and I love the books,
- 46:36Speaker 5: and a lot of those other ones don't have the
- 46:38Speaker 5: writing that this does. So the cut you off?
- 46:42Speaker 4: Are you in a Natomy of health fan?
- 46:45Speaker 5: I am somebody that's not seen it in a long time.
- 46:50Speaker 5: I think it's out of like the entire genre of
- 46:53Speaker 5: New French extremity. I think it was like one of
- 46:55Speaker 5: the first three I saw. I remember mostly enjoying it,
- 46:59Speaker 5: but again, like I was a very different person then,
- 47:02Speaker 5: I feel like I would get a lot more out
- 47:03Speaker 5: of it nowadays, So that's what I'm eager to see again. Sadly,
- 47:08Speaker 5: it's not one that has been either readily available or
- 47:11Speaker 5: easy for me to see for a long time. So yeah,
- 47:14Speaker 5: glad to have a disc.
- 47:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I watched that movie. Jordan knows who I talked
- 47:17Speaker 4: about in a group, Chad.
- 47:18Speaker 3: I watched that movie three times in forty eight hours
- 47:22Speaker 3: because I watched it and then I watched it with
- 47:24Speaker 3: both commentary tracks that are on that release right there,
- 47:28Speaker 3: and the movie is worse when somebody's talking over it,
- 47:31Speaker 3: like the subject matter gets more intense when there's no context,
- 47:36Speaker 3: there's just a voice over it. You know, because a
- 47:41Speaker 3: lot of times with commentaries, this thing happens when you're
- 47:46Speaker 3: watching them, where I'll either get I'll really focus in
- 47:48Speaker 3: on the visual of the movie real quick, and then
- 47:51Speaker 3: the commentary will kind of drop behind, or I get
- 47:53Speaker 3: really focused on the commentary and the visuals kind of
- 47:56Speaker 3: drift away. It's kind of depending on my focus. During
- 48:00Speaker 3: Anatomy of a Hell of an Anatomy of Hell, every
- 48:03Speaker 3: time they're like scenes with certain scenes would happen and
- 48:08Speaker 3: I be like, hold on, I got to go back
- 48:09Speaker 3: and listen to what they said in a commentary again
- 48:12Speaker 3: because I got so.
- 48:13Speaker 4: Focused on.
- 48:16Speaker 3: This image that that movie is riddled with extreme images. Yeah,
- 48:22Speaker 3: so I kind of had a rough couple of days
- 48:24Speaker 3: with that, and.
- 48:26Speaker 5: That's I mean, one of the things about that is
- 48:28Speaker 5: why I'm so excited that def Crocodile, one of the
- 48:31Speaker 5: other companies I work with, they are allowing me to
- 48:34Speaker 5: release their on disc commentaries as podcast episodes, So if
- 48:39Speaker 5: you're on the go, you can listen to the commentary
- 48:41Speaker 5: and you don't have to be set in front of
- 48:43Speaker 5: the film, and for many people, honestly, for many commentary tracks,
- 48:47Speaker 5: it's not even super important. I would hope that you
- 48:51Speaker 5: had seen the film before listening to the commentary so
- 48:53Speaker 5: you can at least envision what they're talking about. But
- 48:56Speaker 5: quite often it's mostly just like contextual things and so
- 48:59Speaker 5: base on that. Don't I don't need to see the
- 49:01Speaker 5: guy acting in I could do this one moment in
- 49:03Speaker 5: the lawn and it helps.
- 49:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:05Speaker 5: Yeah that.
- 49:06Speaker 3: Today when I was watching Terrifier too and I had
- 49:08Speaker 3: on the director's commentary, he actually kind of had me
- 49:12Speaker 3: laughing in bits because he's like, oh my god, He's like,
- 49:14Speaker 3: things are moving so fast. I have so much I
- 49:15Speaker 3: want to say. He's like, but like, scenes are moving
- 49:18Speaker 3: and moving, and yeah, it happens, man, especially depending on
- 49:22Speaker 3: the commentary, And some of them are so.
- 49:25Speaker 4: Some are like they.
- 49:26Speaker 3: Never touch on what you're watching at the moment. It's
- 49:29Speaker 3: all very you know, very broad. And then some are
- 49:33Speaker 3: like seen by scene.
- 49:34Speaker 4: When I watched when I was starting the Screen Factory,
- 49:38Speaker 4: Bavia set a couple of the commentaries on Kill Baby, Kill,
- 49:42Speaker 4: where one was like scene by scene that I enjoyed,
- 49:46Speaker 4: and one was a little bit more broad, so it
- 49:47Speaker 4: was nice to kind of have both to, you know,
- 49:50Speaker 4: back to back like I did it.
- 49:53Speaker 3: Sometimes it's easier, sometimes are harder. Some commentaries like never
- 49:57Speaker 3: touch on what you're taught. What's happening?
- 50:00Speaker 5: Right?
- 50:01Speaker 3: They spend forty five minutes on pre production and you're like,
- 50:04Speaker 3: this could have been released as a interview with a
- 50:07Speaker 3: moderator and I would have been I would have been fine.
- 50:10Speaker 3: So yeah, you know any other pickups there?
- 50:13Speaker 5: Man? Yeah? The last thing I bought is or not bought,
- 50:16Speaker 5: last thing I brought. I actually traded for this one
- 50:19Speaker 5: as well through one of the Facebook groups. This is
- 50:21Speaker 5: something that until a couple weeks ago, I think I
- 50:25Speaker 5: had never heard that this had even existed. I am
- 50:28Speaker 5: a giant fan of short films, a giant fan of
- 50:31Speaker 5: like mid length films. I really feel like we have
- 50:35Speaker 5: lost appreciation for them because they play some festivals and
- 50:38Speaker 5: then they're never available again until twenty five years later
- 50:43Speaker 5: when somebody's doing a retrospective on their work and throws
- 50:45Speaker 5: it on a disc as a bonus feature, and tons
- 50:47Speaker 5: of people never give it the do that it's worth.
- 50:50Speaker 5: And for many of these filmmakers, it crafted the features
- 50:53Speaker 5: that we love and you can see a lot of
- 50:55Speaker 5: that same flavor in the shorts. So I had found
- 50:59Speaker 5: out that Bloody Disgusting had worked together with Watch filmmakers
- 51:03Speaker 5: to put out their web series on disc, and this
- 51:05Speaker 5: is called World of Death.
- 51:07Speaker 3: I saw one, I think I saw the posts about those.
- 51:12Speaker 3: I think it was on that Facebook page that we're
- 51:16Speaker 3: on together, and I was like, what are these?
- 51:18Speaker 5: So I got all four of them from him, and
- 51:20Speaker 5: they like they're not short either, Like the first one
- 51:23Speaker 5: has thirty one shorts on it, the next one, the
- 51:28Speaker 5: shortest one, has twenty eight shorts. So this is a
- 51:31Speaker 5: lot of stuff. These were web series, I think in
- 51:34Speaker 5: a way where they were hosting it elsewhere, but that's
- 51:36Speaker 5: not guaranteed ever, So sure some of these you might
- 51:39Speaker 5: be able to see on YouTube, you're not gonna be
- 51:40Speaker 5: able to see all of these. This is almost one
- 51:42Speaker 5: hundred and twenty different short films, all in cults, genre, cinema,
- 51:47Speaker 5: whatever that you call it, and that is incredible to
- 51:51Speaker 5: give them an opportunity to live on a desk on
- 51:53Speaker 5: a disk like this.
- 51:55Speaker 4: Are they, I guess?
- 51:56Speaker 3: Are they a little hard to find now because it's
- 51:57Speaker 3: the first time I've ever seen them.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Not.
- 52:00Speaker 5: I found out there's seven volumes and you could go
- 52:03Speaker 5: buy a pack of all seven right now for one
- 52:04Speaker 5: hundred and seventy five bucks, which it sounds like a lot,
- 52:07Speaker 5: but to me that's not terrible. I think each one
- 52:09Speaker 5: is like twenty five dollars. That's yeah, that's the math,
- 52:13Speaker 5: and it's you can get him. I think it's one
- 52:15Speaker 5: hundred and seventy five shipped even I think it's just
- 52:18Speaker 5: through the shop on the Bloody Disgusting cider. It links
- 52:21Speaker 5: you somewhere over there. But yeah, I'm I'm very curious
- 52:24Speaker 5: to get the last three probably as well, and hopefully
- 52:27Speaker 5: they keep doing it.
- 52:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I saw I can't remember, I was doing something.
- 52:30Speaker 3: I was in the car when I saw that post,
- 52:33Speaker 3: because I think he originally listed them for sale, and
- 52:37Speaker 3: I was like.
- 52:37Speaker 4: What are these?
- 52:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I do the same thing.
- 52:40Speaker 4: Yeah, that was.
- 52:41Speaker 3: It's always interesting when you find stuff like that because
- 52:43Speaker 3: you never know, because then you kind of question, like are.
- 52:45Speaker 4: These reels as a boot? Like is this like what
- 52:47Speaker 4: is Yep?
- 52:48Speaker 3: That was when I discovered the Hunger TV show. That's
- 52:55Speaker 3: to me, I think like a hidden gem that I discovered.
- 52:59Speaker 3: I found them on Amazon on their mod discs, But like,
- 53:03Speaker 3: that show is incredible I mean, you have David Bowie
- 53:06Speaker 3: hosting or introducing one season of them, like, and they're
- 53:10Speaker 3: just extremely like gruesome, thought provoking, like sexy our episodes
- 53:21Speaker 3: of television, you know what I mean. And I got
- 53:23Speaker 3: through the first season, I'm like, dude, this is great.
- 53:25Speaker 3: I throw in season two, I'm like, holy shit, and
- 53:27Speaker 3: it's all in the nineties, you know.
- 53:28Speaker 4: There.
- 53:29Speaker 3: It has that certain aesthetic, that certain style, and it's amazing.
- 53:33Speaker 3: Like I never heard anybody talking about them. I just
- 53:35Speaker 3: happened to like wind up on them on Amazon somehow,
- 53:40Speaker 3: and I love coming across that stuff.
- 53:43Speaker 4: But yeah, a couple so I have some pickups.
- 53:48Speaker 3: And then I have a story that I want to
- 53:51Speaker 3: tell if you guys want to, if you guys don't
- 53:52Speaker 3: mind listening listening to my story. First up, the other
- 53:56Speaker 3: day yesterday, I was kind of running around for work
- 53:59Speaker 3: and I was like, when me swing by this Barnes
- 54:00Speaker 3: and Noble, and I grabbed.
- 54:02Speaker 4: A creep show two on four K.
- 54:06Speaker 3: I was not anticipating upgrading this, but I just happened
- 54:10Speaker 3: to walk in and they were like, it was behind
- 54:12Speaker 3: the counter, and I asked the girl and she gave
- 54:14Speaker 3: it to me, and I had a fifty hours.
- 54:15Speaker 4: Price tag on. I'm like, well, I'm not paying that.
- 54:17Speaker 3: And she's like, oh, I think it's like forty percent off,
- 54:20Speaker 3: so it's like twenty nine to ninety nine. I'm like, oh, well,
- 54:22Speaker 3: then I'll I have some bare bones Blu Ray of it.
- 54:28Speaker 4: I don't know who put it out. I don't even
- 54:29Speaker 4: know if I has subtitles. Oh yeah, with the event.
- 54:33Speaker 4: It's so bare, so I was happy to upgrade that.
- 54:38Speaker 4: It's a I don't know, maybe you guys have different thoughts.
- 54:42Speaker 4: It's a little annoying that they.
- 54:45Speaker 3: Just kind of copy and pasted the Blu Ray release
- 54:47Speaker 3: and then you know that's what they put out again.
- 54:51Speaker 4: But if it's not broke, don't fix it. I guess
- 54:56Speaker 4: to a.
- 54:56Speaker 5: Point, I do agree. I think the art should be changed,
- 54:59Speaker 5: and I think there should be at least one feature
- 55:01Speaker 5: added it.
- 55:03Speaker 3: At least do like a different color, you know, like
- 55:05Speaker 3: I like the box art on this, but like, let's
- 55:07Speaker 3: do something like anything at all. They just kind of
- 55:10Speaker 3: literally I was like, all right, here's a new transfer here.
- 55:13Speaker 3: Everything else is exactly the same.
- 55:16Speaker 5: But before you announced the second one, maybe to irritate
- 55:19Speaker 5: you ever so slightly, that a forty percent off horror
- 55:22Speaker 5: sale if you go back to Barnes and Noble tomorrow
- 55:24Speaker 5: and they have the A twenty four X trilogy that
- 55:27Speaker 5: is forty percent off in store right now as well.
- 55:29Speaker 4: Hey, you know what, man, you don't want to Yeah,
- 55:35Speaker 4: I can't keep up anymore.
- 55:38Speaker 3: You know the other day, I wasn't at a barn
- 55:40Speaker 3: When I was at a Barnes and Noble for my
- 55:41Speaker 3: birthday last week, we went out and got lunch. We
- 55:45Speaker 3: went to a Barnes and Noble and they had then
- 55:48Speaker 3: they had like a you know all the Barnes and
- 55:50Speaker 3: Nobles in the media sections have like that checkout area
- 55:53Speaker 3: that nobody's ever in, you know, where they used to
- 55:56Speaker 3: bring people out. And they had a stack of disc
- 55:58Speaker 3: They had a stack of movie sitting there and I
- 56:00Speaker 3: kind of like reached my hand ever so slightly behind
- 56:02Speaker 3: to get them, and I was like, what are these?
- 56:05Speaker 3: And they were the Upcoming like it was a History
- 56:07Speaker 3: of Violence, Altered States, the Shrouds and then Rampage by Kino,
- 56:12Speaker 3: And I was like, well, they're not when a scandy's
- 56:14Speaker 3: into system, that's gonna tell them they can't sell them.
- 56:16Speaker 3: I was like, so I'm not even gonna try, but
- 56:18Speaker 3: I was like, man, cool to see these, very excited.
- 56:22Speaker 3: And then I get home, I'm like, you know, on Amazon,
- 56:26Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm thinking about getting History of Violence, and
- 56:28Speaker 3: then you post Criterion Flashel. I'm like, great, God, now
- 56:32Speaker 3: I have to like, I either buy them now or
- 56:34Speaker 3: I wait a week and I go buy them a
- 56:36Speaker 3: Barnes and Noble again. Anyway during the November swe you know, yeah,
- 56:42Speaker 3: it's always something. Man, Well, I'll listen, I'll get that.
- 56:44Speaker 3: I'll get that A twenty five. I'm not paying full price.
- 56:47Speaker 5: Well, well, if it's forty percent off, sixty bucks is
- 56:50Speaker 5: pretty decent for that.
- 56:51Speaker 3: I did did when did it officially come out? Because
- 56:53Speaker 3: I did not see it there yesterday?
- 56:56Speaker 5: Uh, like two weeks ago, I think. Okay, but the
- 57:00Speaker 5: better thing for them is you can order it online
- 57:02Speaker 5: to ship to the store and then pay in the store,
- 57:05Speaker 5: because right now this sale is only for in store items,
- 57:09Speaker 5: and so if you wait to pay, your price will
- 57:11Speaker 5: actually go down nice.
- 57:13Speaker 4: Okay, all right, we'll go in to Barnesnoble dot com
- 57:16Speaker 4: right now.
- 57:16Speaker 5: On the button I'm revealing all the secrets.
- 57:20Speaker 4: Jordan's already bought it.
- 57:22Speaker 1: You know, I'm not I'm not gonna. I won't lie
- 57:25Speaker 1: if I didn't say. I already pulled up the Barnes
- 57:26Speaker 1: and Noble. He is looking at it right now.
- 57:32Speaker 3: So I wanted to show this next pickup because I
- 57:38Speaker 3: know what this release means to Ryan. So I wanted
- 57:40Speaker 3: to shout this out because I did finally get suddenly in.
- 57:44Speaker 5: The dark from I don't even know that yet.
- 57:48Speaker 3: Yep, finally finally got my hands on this. I've heard
- 57:51Speaker 3: nothing but the most incredible things from you on various
- 57:55Speaker 3: podcasts or live streams with you, because I feel like
- 57:59Speaker 3: this has been coming up conversation for so long, because
- 58:02Speaker 3: it's been yeah, step back after step back. I think
- 58:05Speaker 3: it was Brad who called it during the Halloween announcements.
- 58:09Speaker 4: It was like the cursed object of terror.
- 58:11Speaker 5: It is absolutely is.
- 58:12Speaker 3: Yeah, So I I you know, it's when it came in,
- 58:17Speaker 3: I was like, I kind of looked at it and
- 58:18Speaker 3: I was like, I hope, I hope nothing happens now
- 58:21Speaker 3: that I have this, like fast on them.
- 58:23Speaker 5: Well, you still need a replacement four K disc. That's
- 58:26Speaker 5: the funny thing.
- 58:27Speaker 4: Wait, it came with it.
- 58:30Speaker 5: No, it came with the replacement Blu ray disc, not
- 58:32Speaker 5: a replacement four K disc. God, this is how cursed
- 58:36Speaker 5: it is. We still don't have replacement four K discs
- 58:39Speaker 5: for it.
- 58:39Speaker 4: What's wrong with the first fore.
- 58:41Speaker 5: K It dumped all of the color and we can't
- 58:44Speaker 5: figure out why when when the disc was authored, it
- 58:46Speaker 5: lost all of it. So if you watch it, it
- 58:48Speaker 5: looks like it's washed out. It looks the color in
- 58:51Speaker 5: the four K looks worse than the Blu ray.
- 58:53Speaker 4: I was gonna joke and say, I wonder why I
- 58:55Speaker 4: was in black and white, but I didn't watch it.
- 58:59Speaker 5: Listen.
- 59:00Speaker 4: It's a gorgeous release physically, like what I have in
- 59:04Speaker 4: my hand is very good looking.
- 59:06Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that thing we I think we announced that
- 59:09Speaker 5: thing in January if.
- 59:11Speaker 4: I remember right, that might have ordered it.
- 59:13Speaker 5: Are just now getting it, and we still need replacement
- 59:17Speaker 5: four K discs.
- 59:19Speaker 4: One day, you know, one day it'll be completed and hopefully.
- 59:26Speaker 3: So last two I'm going to talk about. This is
- 59:28Speaker 3: the story. So the first one i'll talk about.
- 59:32Speaker 5: So I ordered.
- 59:32Speaker 4: I'll tell you guys what I ordered.
- 59:34Speaker 3: I ordered MS forty five from the Movie Room, right.
- 59:38Speaker 3: This was as soon as Arrow did. That's late of announcements.
- 59:41Speaker 3: I ordered this, ordered Return of Living Dead, ordered into
- 59:43Speaker 3: Mouth of madness. So the Movie Room sent me m
- 59:47Speaker 3: S forty five to kind of talk about and dive into,
- 59:50Speaker 3: and it chipped. So I got a shipping notification with
- 59:54Speaker 3: the invoice. Super excited, right, So I had a crazy
- 59:59Speaker 3: work day the day that this arrived.
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: I had like a twelve hour shift.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: I was like, at one point I had to I
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: had to drive to three different locations of our company.
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: It was out of control. So it was having a
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: rough day.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: When I get home, there's this big box on my
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: dining room table from the Movie Room, and I'm like, wait,
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: there's no way they sent that box, like like they're
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: not Amazon, you know what I mean. I'm like, they
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: didn't send that box for an arrow title. So I
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: sit down and I open it. And one cool thing
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: about the Movie Room is the pack they package really well,
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: like excessively overwhel It's like this uh kind of like
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: wrapping of like a like shredded paper and then you
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: have bubble wrap. So it does make your releases look
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: about double the width when you're taking them out because
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: they're so packaged together. So when I opened a box,
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: there's two compartments, like I could see two different packaging
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: things going on. Inside the box, the left one was smaller,
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: so I pulled out It's MS forty five. I'm like, wow,
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: I'm like super gady to have this. We're very happy
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: to have this. I don't know what's on this other
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: side of the box, and I'm sitting there with my
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: wife and I'm like, what is this? So I pull
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: it out and I start opening it and I'll tell
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: you guys what it was. In a moment, Jordan you
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: already know, but Ryan, I'll tell you. I started questioning
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: myself because I was like, there's no way I bought this.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: It was like, because I can't afford this. Right now,
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: I'm trying to figure out what I did here. I'm like,
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: did I accidentally buy something? I'm like on the verge
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: of checking my bank records, like to make sure I
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: didn't mess up or anything. And inside the box was
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: a note from Mike and deb over at the movie
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: room that basically said, you know, happy birthday. We know
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: you've been wanting this. We know you're gonna enjoy and
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: you're gonna love it. And I have to tell you, guys,
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: when it comes to gifts, I will cry right.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: I'm not someone who's used to getting stuff. When people
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: do give me stuff, even my wife, I want to
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: break down because I'm just so appreciative that somebody would
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: even think of, like, oh, here's something I know that
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: you want, and I'll give it to you.
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: The Movie Room sent me the Curson Michael Hennikey said.
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: Damn tell him it was my birthday, dude.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: We should have say birthday.
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: We should have said this is my first curzon in release.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: Holy shit, dude, this thing is incredible. Like I love
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: the texture of the outside of the box, the attention
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: to detail. I mean, you want to talk about physical
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: media is education? This right here is film school in
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: a box. Like I've only seen two Michael Hanneke films.
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: I've seen The Piano Teacher, and I've seen the US
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: Funny Games. But he's somebody who almost like Bergmann is
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: kind of like the like, one day I will muster
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: up the strength to like work my way through and learn.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: I am so excited to have this thing. Man like commentaries,
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: new interviews.
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: This thing is loathed to guild.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: The booklet just speechless, speechless on a podcast, which is
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: you know, perfect the way to be?
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: Are you guys Michael Hannekee fans.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Well, uh hmm, I hadn't seen very many Handikee films either,
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: and I'm I was in the same boat as as
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Chris and Michael and Deb Actually know they didn't send
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: it to me, but.
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: Shorge's birthday.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: Now, I do you have that set though? That actually
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: it was a review copy, so I do have to
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: dive into is That's going to be a while, But
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: that was my introduction to Hannikey was through that. I
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: watched the original Happy Games, Funny Funny Game. I keep saying,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Happy funny Games, Game, funny Games, and wow, that movie
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: is is pretty good. I do enjoy it, but that
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: that's really the only Handikey film that I have personally
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: seen is the original Funny Games. It's funny enough. Piano
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: Teacher was the next one I planned to watch out
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: of that set.
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, Ryan, what about you?
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: I've seen slightly more, Hannica. I've seen four, I think,
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: and I think two of them are funny Games. I
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: think the US Funny Games was my intro and immediately
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: went to find a copy of it. Found that it's
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: not super easy to get in the US, so I
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: went and found the original from Criteria and watched that
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: immediately loved it, just the same seen Seeing the Piano Teacher,
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: seen one more. I'm not remembering offhand. I went the
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: other route. I actually have the Umbrella release of that one,
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: and I do wish it had the US Funny Games
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: in HD in there. But it's kind of crazy because
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: we have two very closely in quality competing releases here.
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: The Umbrellas was cheaper, it was missing one film, but
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: they both have a litany of exclusive special features, one
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: compared to the other one. And honestly, no matter which
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: way you go here, you're you're kind of winning. Both
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: of these are really great, great choices.
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, this one was on the Movie Room's website.
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: It's one ninety nine and I talked about in the intro.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: But code bear to ten gets you ten percent off,
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: so twenty bucks, you know, let's say, take off of it.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: It was I was going to buy it. I actually
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: had them put it on hold for me. But sometimes
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: it's really hard to just find two hundred dollars, you know,
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: laying around, which is why there's always yeah, which is
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: why there's a lot of stuff I don't have. Like
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: I still hate the fact that I was holding the
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: Criterion Bergmann set in a used media store and it
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: was one hundred dollars and I passed up on it. Okay,
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: so you know, I know it goes for like one
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: forty during the you know, I mean, or one during
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: the half off sale. But still, you know, for that price,
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: I probably should have it was brand new, I mean,
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: you know, but yeah, it's you know, I think Ryan,
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: we talked before about how I've been getting into Criterion Channel,
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: which you know clearly we're talking physical media, so I
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: hate to be like, hey, streaming Criterion Channel has opened
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: up so many avenues for me to watch things that
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: I don't have to put out ridiculous money to buy
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: it on physical media, to take it chance with.
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: Yeah, you know.
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: I watched John Wu's The Killer on Criterion Channel, was
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: part of their new John Wu collection curation that went up,
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: and I loved it, Like, to me, probably my favorite
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: John Wu film. I'm still not going to pay the
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: sixty dollars for the Shout one yet, but you know,
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: that's that's on the list. I know they always have
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: a bunch of how do you say, is it hannikah?
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: That's how I've always heard it yet.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, they have a bunch of Hannika on there,
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: so it kind of allows me to dabble in different
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: things without having to pay or take a risk on
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: it in a different way. But I do know I've
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: done some research, like just kind of went on YouTube
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: and looked up like, you know, Hannikey filmography, and some
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: people kind of talk about it. And I know Keith
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: over in our group chat High Volume Video, he pretty
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: much told us that every single movie he has the
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: umbrella release and he's trying to make his way through it.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: He's like, but dude, I'm so depressed after every single movie.
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: It's hard to muster up the strength to just throw
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: one another one.
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: Well, and it's like that for lots of these box sets,
- 1:08:15Speaker 5: And I kind of felt it when you were talking
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: about Black Emmanuel earlier. There's so many of these that
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: are not They're not made for binging, like somebody's filmography
- 1:08:24Speaker 5: took a lifetime to make. It's not something that is
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: meant to be played in a series of two weeks
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: so that you can put a quick review up on YouTube,
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: Like these are meant to hang over your head for
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: a few days. These are meant to live with you
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: and haunt you for a couple of months while you go, well, shit, yeah,
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: the choices that he made that movie killed that woman
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: or whatever, Like, there's a lot in these that are
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: deeper than that and Black Emmanuel, You're not meant to
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: watch eighteen of those movies in the span of three
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: weeks and go what did I just do with my life?
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: I don't know if I can.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: I remember diving in it that set, and when I
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: got to and Manuel in the Last Cannibals, that's when
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: I was like, whoa, I got it.
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: I need a break, like I need to chill out.
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: It really like takes a toll on you eventually. Yeah,
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: I mean the box sets are really hard, and I'm
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: very excited for you.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Guys.
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: Know, I love Severn. I think actually, Ryan, you called
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: me a Severn fanboy. Uh in one interaction that you
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: sent to me with somebody from Severn. I was like, yep,
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: I don't know if that's a good thing or.
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: A bad thing, but.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: Very excited for the probably gonna put you in the
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: name the Extra Sismo box set, Very very excited for that,
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: very excited for the Right the Manuel box set, the
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: New Saga Erotica box set. But it's so intimidating to
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: get into because you're just opening up a can of
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: worms and you really have to figure out how to
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: get through it all and how to make make sure
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: you sit back.
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: And that's why I.
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: Never I can't watch something and then immediately go on
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: letterbox and talk about it, because you gotta let things soak,
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: you know. So it wasn't on physical But today I
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: watched the new I Know What You Did Last Summer?
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: How do you?
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: I know Jordan doesn't like that movie? I didn't like it, right, Ryan?
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: Did you see it in theaters?
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: I did see it. I was entertained, but thought it
- 1:10:31Speaker 5: was by far one of the worst movies of the year.
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: Okay, okay, okay, yeah, I all right. My thoughts are
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: so mixed. I don't know how to say it. I
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: am not a fan of any of these movies. I'm
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: not an original I Know You Did Last Summer fan.
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: I was more of an urban legend scream you know kids,
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: So I was exposed to very late. I watched I
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: Still Know What You Did Last Summer. I was like, God,
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: this is like hot garbage, Like we've really went over
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: and you know, and then attempted to watch I'll Always Know, and.
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: I was like, whoa, We're like really over it now.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: So going into this new one, clearly I did not
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: have very high, you know, expectations. But my wife watched
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: it last night while I was at work, and she
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: was like, hey, you know, I didn't mind it, you
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: should watch it. So I threw it on this morning
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: and was entertained by it. Like you said, Ryan, I
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: think that there's some merit there. I think it's well directed.
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: It looks good. Some of the kill scenes are gruesome,
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: the dialogue is awful.
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: Like, clearly they're trying to appeal to a generation younger
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: than me, because in the first ten minutes.
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: Of movie they say Queen, they use Daddy, they say Sleigh.
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: One character goes, oh, yeah, that book is fire. I'm like,
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: what is this? This this a movie? Like, I don't know
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: what I'm watching. So when a movie was over, which,
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: by the way, that nearly two hour movie took me
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: four hours to watch, it felt like because it just
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: kept going and going and going. I'm like, this is
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: the longest movie I've ever seen in my life. As
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: soon as it was over, I went to my wife,
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: and I was like, that was stupid, you know, like
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: that was dumb. And then I sat there and I
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: was kind of playing on my phone. I was thinking
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: and I was thinking, and then I came back to
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: my wife and I was like, I was like, you know,
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: that's probably the most entertained I've been watching one of
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: these movies. Like I'd like one of the I know
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: what you did Last Summer movies, and now I'm kind
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: of like, I think it's my favorite of that franchise,
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: but like a franchise where the best one is like
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: a two point five out of five, you know, So
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: that that's kind of what happens sometimes when you let
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: things just sit and you just kind of let it,
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: you know, you think about it. Yeah, my god, I
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: didn't hate that as much as I thought, oh my god.
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: So yeah, that's why I know we did Last Summer's Story,
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: which fuck everything about most.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: Of that movie though, like it's real bad dude, it's
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: not good, not good.
- 1:13:17Speaker 4: Take away this, listen, bro, I think I said in
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: my letterbox notes. I think I said like or no.
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: On Instagram, I think I said, like, if you take
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: away the dialogue, take away the legacy characters, take away
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: the final twist.
- 1:13:30Speaker 4: There's there's some right there.
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: I thought, No, the plot itself is ruined from the
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: very beginning, like they give away who the quote killer
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: is very early. But also the worst part about this
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: film is that there's no stakes the whole original situation.
- 1:13:45Speaker 5: They didn't kill anybody like the original movie. There was
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: nothing to hide, They didn't do anything that they needed
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: to worry about. Probably stupid.
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: I didn't give a shit about anybody, and that there
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: was not a single no character felt real enough for
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: me to care about. This situation didn't feel real enough
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: for me to care about. Like I'm like, wait all
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: of this because he's still in the road and a
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: truck turned its headlights on late and then drove off
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: the road, and now it's like we're back to the
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: original I'm.
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: Like, what is the original cast even doing in this?
- 1:14:13Speaker 5: Like they what are they?
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: None of it was, you know, but like I had
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: these very surface level, this very surface level fun with it.
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: But it's kind of like scream I in the past,
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: excuse me in the past year. I'm gonna thank Kevin Williamson,
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: who I've never spoken to in my life. But Ashley
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: Collins wrote an incredible kind of retrospective behind the scenes
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: on the screen franchise called your favorite Scary movie and
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: it was incredible read and Kevin Williamson in there says
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: that Scream six is his favorite Scream movie besides the original.
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: And I thought, ballzy, what an interesting choice. And then
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: I rewat.
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: I thought wrong, but yes, and.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: Then I watched it.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: Again and I was like, I actually kind of agree,
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: even though Ryan's gonna tell me I was wrong.
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: So I love Scream six.
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: It's good. I don't think there is a single bad
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: Scream movie. Even Scream three is good. Dude.
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: I watched Scream three more as a kid than I
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: did the first movie. Like I enjoy Scream three.
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: I just wish they went with the original ending where
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: it was supposed to be two different characters as the killers,
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: because it would have made a lot of that plot
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: make a lot more sense.
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: Yes, yes, it would have. It would have.
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: I want to bring something up to you guys. I
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: know I asked you guys to kind of bring four
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: titles that you've been watching, but I kind of because
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: I have Jordan, who's heavily involved on the YouTube side
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: of things, and Ryan, because I have you, which you
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: know I always have you, but now I can see
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: you and we're live, so you know, I can take
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: advantage of this. We're going into twenty twenty six, more
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: and more, there's more people on YouTube talking physical media.
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: They're popping up on my YouTube all the time. I
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: watch them. You know, I guess the conversation that I
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: want to have is more what we can do as
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: a community next year to continue driving everything in a
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: positive way, because over the last this past year, for
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: as many great things have happened in this industry that
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: we all love and that we put so much money into,
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: I feel like there's been just as much bullshit coming
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: from the community side of things, as far as like
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: how we treat news or how we treat rumors, or
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: how we treat each other for the things that we
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: like or the things we don't like, or the shit
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: that we give labels or whatever the chance am I
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: like in left field here or you guys feel this too.
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: I mean I see it, and I see it. I
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: mean I'm not naming names or anything, but I definitely
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: I see it out there, and I see certain certain
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: channels like to capitalize on that sort of stuff. I'm
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: not a fan of it. I know, Chris, you personally
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: know what I'm talking about. Yeah, I agree. I think
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: it's out there, and I think it's a way for
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: people and these YouTubers to garner clicks. I think that's
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: the biggest the reason they do it.
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: Yeah, Ryan, what about I know you're not in the
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: YouTube space like that, but I know you're very passionate
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: about this, and I'm just wondering if you have seen
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: from your perspective the same thing that I'm kind of mentioning.
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: I don't think you're going far enough here. This is
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: one of the things I'm quite upset about very often,
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: and this week is kind of the perfect example of it.
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: I will just say right now, if you are a
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: YouTuber that has put out a video in the last
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: three days with a logo from screen Factory, a YouTube
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: face thumbnail and a question of closing shop or shutting
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: down or out of business or whatever, you are harming
- 1:18:16Speaker 5: everything about physic physical media and the people that are
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: following you for drama. Clicks are an embarrassment to this community.
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: I have so many worse things that I felt in
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: the last year and could say, but a lot of
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: it is just stuff that I should keep to myself,
- 1:18:31Speaker 5: so I will, but I will say the main reason
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: that I'm only doing a live video on YouTube once
- 1:18:37Speaker 5: a week and then putting up my interviews is because
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: of the terrible reputation that so many other creators in
- 1:18:44Speaker 5: the space have given to this space and the amount
- 1:18:48Speaker 5: of drama that they want to stir up so that
- 1:18:51Speaker 5: they can get their ten thousand clicks in the first
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: three hours, so that they make their money. And I've
- 1:18:56Speaker 5: never been about that. I will always be a small creator,
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: if I even stay a creator for all that long,
- 1:19:02Speaker 5: I am just like third hand embarrassment for what you're doing.
- 1:19:08Speaker 5: I don't understand how you go to sleep at night
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: feeling good about that. And it's not to sound condescending
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: or high and mighty or anything like that, but it's
- 1:19:16Speaker 5: this is like actual art that we're all talking about loving,
- 1:19:20Speaker 5: and you're spending your time like getting people riled up
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: over something that if you spend twelve seconds googling, you
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: never would have even needed to make the video and
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: it all would have been fine, and everybody would have
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: been cool, just living their normal life. That's not what
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: you wanted. You wanted to make your money for the day,
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: and congrats you did, and your fan base is there,
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: But man, I just for me, that's not a fan
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: base that I would ever want to have.
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: Well, I think a lot of people try to pass
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: it on as a source of Like, I'm not making
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: this video for clicks. I'm making this video because I
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: want to educate my audience on what's happening. But the
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: way that you present that and talking about things in
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: the way that you are is actually doing the It's
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: benefiting you because you're hitting the hot topic, you know.
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: And what are what are you educating? You're educating with
- 1:20:13Speaker 5: bad information of which you literally have no source, or
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: you're literally making up a source in a live video.
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: And we've seen that this year and now everybody's going
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: to know who I'm talking about. But like it's a
- 1:20:25Speaker 5: joke that this is happening. You are harming everything about
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: this industry and literally getting people riled up over something
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: that didn't exist. How embarrassing for you? Yeah?
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, I want to frame this podcast episode as
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: obviously talk about pickups, but I also want to frame
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: this is kind of around a what can we do
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: to be better? You know, in the next year at
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: least and I know, you know, we average I don't know,
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: a couple hundred views or a couple one hundred listens
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: an episode, as far as like metrics that I can track,
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: and I hope that we can reach somebody who maybe
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: has been spreading some false info or jumping on things
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: to get attention or doing things. I'm hoping that we
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: reach somebody and kind of maybe get in their head
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: that like, hey, maybe you should not do that. Because
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: I'm very very passionate about this, and I know in
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: the group chat Jordan, I actually sometimes feel bad for
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: how I react to things, because I will react very
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: hastily and angrily about something I don't agree with that's
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: happening in the space, and because I know it's what
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: it's hurting, and I know why people are doing it,
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: like you're doing it for clicks, You're doing it for
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: the attention. And sometimes I feel bad because I feel
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: like my reactions.
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: Are so hasty. But I actually feel better knowing that Ryan,
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: you said I didn't go far enough in what I
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: was saying.
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: I think we need to let Ryan off the leash
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: a little now.
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: I don't want it to be you know, I clearly
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: don't want to be a call outside. I don't want
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: any of that. I just want to how do we?
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: How do we?
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: So like we have three different representatives here of of
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: the space. You know, Jordan, you're on YouTube, right, that's
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: what you do. Ryan, You're on product. You're on the
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: production side. You know, you're very much insider side of it,
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: but still social media forward with the Reconnected show and
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: everything that you do on the Disconnected page even though
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: you kind of high like you're not the face of it.
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: That disconnected is known as disconnected. And then I kind
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: of find myself in the middle where like I'm lucky
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: enough to to have garnered a bit of an insta
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: like a bit of a social media following and a
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: bit of uh spread on platforms, through podcasts and through
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: like old YouTube videos and stuff, and you know, amazed,
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: like such incredible, Like Ryan, you were on Jake's podcast
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: your book Obsessed.
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: You know that guy.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: I love what he does, man, I was just talking
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: to him today. Love what he does. He's a guy
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: that I root for, you know what I mean. I
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: want to see him do great. I know that he
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: can positively impact in all ways. He does every time.
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: His stuff's very positive He shines a great light on
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: the companies that work with him, love what he does.
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: But for every Jake, actually for one Jake, there's ten
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: that get that attention but don't use it the way
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: that he does.
- 1:23:37Speaker 5: Can you name those ten just so we can get.
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: We're gonna start rattling them off. I'm going my YouTube
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: real quick. Hold on yah on a bunch of different fronts,
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: right one. I like we so weird.
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: He talked about it, like, you know, I think review
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: culture kind of hurts more things than the benefits. And uh,
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: I think because there's never enough time given to fully
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: If I was to say, hey, I'm gonna review this
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: hennicky set, do you just get through me six months?
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: And by the time that six months is done, they're
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: gonna be announcing four hays of these guys and like nobody's
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: gonna give a shit, you know what I mean, Like
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: like nobody's gonna care, or like, how do you sit down?
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: Jordan?
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: You and I talked about you doing that. You were
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: you were collecting the Hammer line, the new line they're
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: putting out those super deluxe editions. How somebody twenty four
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: hours after those land at a doorstep. How somebody puts up.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: A review of those you you can't.
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: You can't.
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: How do you do that?
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: You can't?
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: Well to do to do a thorough and honest review
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: of how your thoughts are you?
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: You?
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: Really, it's hard to do that. And unless look, unless
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: you don't do anything except set and don't go to
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: the baroom, you don't eat, and you just sit and
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: watch it for forty eight hours straight. Maybe, but even
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: then you're not letting things digest. You're not. I mean
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: even I've done this before too, when I had to
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: do a review of a title. I'll even sometimes to
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: do that review, I'll go other sources as well, right,
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: not just out of at least just to get a
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: whole complete understanding of the film, but to answer your question,
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: to do a good if you're gonna do a review
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: of a film like like I have this one here,
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: the Curse of Frankenstein, which an amazing release from Hammer.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: I think what Hammer's doing is is like an encyclopedia
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: of each of their releases. I think it's incredible. But
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: to be able to get this like say I got
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: this tonight, I watched it and review comes up the
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: next the next day. Well, one if you watch those
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: nine times out of ten, they're just talking about the
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: film and that's I mean, and what they liked. But
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: they they're not talking about the audio comic Chary that
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: it comes in. They're not talking about hey hammer got
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: uh you know, the three new special features or even
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: within the Mount of Madness, they they brought back some
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: of the producers, they brought back the actor who played
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: Cedar Kane, what they talked about, their experiences and all
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: the old how all the old Screen Factory special features
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: came back and rewatched those even if you had the
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: old in the Mount of Madness. So you're not getting
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: that a lot, it seems like, and I noticed this
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: with YouTube. It's a very quick turnaround and they try
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: and it's we talked about it. It's to garner clicks.
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: They want to stay relevant. And uh, I don't think
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: these films as much blood, sweat and tears as these
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: uh the the uh people who wrote and direct the film,
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: the people who curated all these stuff to put these
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: releases together. You're not giving them the time of day.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: And I think the respect that these these people, all
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: these people that were involved in these releases, the credit
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: they deserve because like I think Ryan has talked about
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: there's audio commentaries that you have put together that back
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: would you say twenty eighteen?
- 1:27:10Speaker 5: That might three?
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: Oh okay, see I'm over, but still my you know,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: my stamous little stands that I just it's unfortunate and
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: I see it all the time, and I've talked to
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: my wife and it makes me mad. And it's funny
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: because I can sometimes get her going too about the
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: same topic and she's not even in the you'll watch
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: movies like that, she doesn't even end the YouTube space,
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: and but she notices it, and it irritates her because
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: she'll see I will dive into something days and days
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: at a time, just researching, studying. I feel like I'm
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: ready to do a video and I put it up.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Someone else put it up, you know, watched it one
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: time and they got these massive amount of clicks, and
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: she's like, you know, it irritates her. You know, hey,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: I'd rather not get those clicks and feel good and
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: honest to myself rather than kind of feel fake because
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: I've thrown something out there for people to just Okay, next, cool,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: we got that, let's move on. Well that makes any sense.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: I kind of rambled a little bit. But that's that's
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: kind of my take on it.
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: No, you're good.
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: But I think it's also like the expectation. And I
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: get it because people can say, hey, there's so much
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: coming out studio or these companies are just concerned about
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: the numbers that are selling.
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: So if you have if you have ten thousand subs
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: on YouTube, right, and you they send you a copy, right,
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: you're exposing that to your following right of ten thousand.
- 1:28:43Speaker 3: It doesn't matter if you're doing it by like, hey,
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: I watch it. This is the average four K review, right, Yeah,
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: the four K looks really good, the movie sharp, it's
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: got good grain structure and yeah, good sound. You know,
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: my Doby atmost was going because this has at most
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: and uh and yeah, that's that is the shortened version
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: of most four K reviews that I come across online.
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: And then they go they read the back of the box.
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: Now it's got all these bonus features. Yeah, I recommend this,
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: and companies go, hey, that's good enough. As long as
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: your audience of ten thousand saw that, you know, now
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: they can.
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: Go and buy it.
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: But I think companies need to start holding people who
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: are getting their releases to a higher standard and you
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: put I mean, I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. If
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: Severn Severn puts out a release years go into it.
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: I mean, we on your show alone, Ryan, you've had
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: I forget his name, who was the who does QC?
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: Blake Monaghan, Well, he talks about.
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: How like weeks and weeks and weeks of analyzing every
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: single clickable option on a disc, making.
- 1:29:54Speaker 5: People have no clue. Like he just not to swing
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: the subject, but just kudos to the people that do
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: proper QC. He just had to QC the Kena Laber
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: disc that's about to release of the The George Lucas
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: Talk Show, which is like just a famous podcast that's
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: gotten big, and they got a whole disc for it.
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: That thing has thirty audio commentaries. He had to QC
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: every single one, not kidding at all.
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: So if you're a company owner, right, and you obviously
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: Blake got paid for that, right he put in the time,
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: you have every other piece of it, artwork, manufacturing, other
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: bonus features that were produced and commissioned out and hired
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: for great, great packaging, slipcover. You have all this, right,
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: and then you release it to the world, and then
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: you got some guy on YouTube going, yeah, looked good.
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: I didn't watch any of the bonus features because I
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: don't have time and four K hold it held up well,
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: and like you mean to tell me that company's okay
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: with that, They're going, all right? That was worth me
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: giving you my six dollar product for that was I
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: don't understand it, man, I genuinely don't, and I don't.
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: I don't receive review copies from companies outside the movie room,
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: you know they and that's not even coming from an
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: independent label. I'm not interested in receiving review copies from
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: companies because I know for a fact that it's going
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: to take me a lot longer than the time that
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: most other people are gonna be able to get it out.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: So I don't want that pressure on me, and me
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: as a company owner, I would not be happy with that.
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: I wouldn't.
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: But I don't know Ryan, if you had any exposure
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: hearing anything like that, or if companies are okay with saying, hey,
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: we just wanted to be shown.
- 1:31:42Speaker 5: Oh. I've heard a lot of things about this, A
- 1:31:45Speaker 5: lot of people not not happy with it, a lot
- 1:31:47Speaker 5: of people that don't know how to fix it, a
- 1:31:49Speaker 5: lot of people that have pulled people off of their
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: list from getting free stuff because they just stop reviewing
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: copies for like seven months and think that people won't
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: notice because there's so much coming out there is I
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: don't know, Like you mentioned review culture, I think the
- 1:32:03Speaker 5: bigger problem here is the pickup culture that feeds the
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: review culture. I mean some many of these people that
- 1:32:09Speaker 5: are making literally a living, literally just posting on Instagram
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: and Facebook saying, look at the packages I got in today,
- 1:32:18Speaker 5: here's how you can buy them, and their Amazon affiliate
- 1:32:21Speaker 5: link is there, and they make a pretty decent wage
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: that can support like a single person. You can make
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: more than the poverty line just from those affiliate links
- 1:32:32Speaker 5: for a lot of people. It's wild. I have a
- 1:32:38Speaker 5: lot I could say here, but as somebody that has
- 1:32:40Speaker 5: been running a production company for a little over two
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: years now, I would say, in that amount of time,
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: the amount of reviews that have come out that have
- 1:32:50Speaker 5: mentioned something that I've appreciated about my special features and
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: that could be critical as well. I'm not saying just like, hey,
- 1:32:57Speaker 5: you did good, but something actually meaning is less than
- 1:33:01Speaker 5: the number of fingers I have on my left hand.
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: It is absolutely astonishing how little like I went into
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: this thinking that we were gonna be able to share reviews.
- 1:33:11Speaker 5: Most of the reviews just mentioned what the special features are.
- 1:33:14Speaker 5: What does that mean? People know how to buy the
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: disc and look at the stuff themselves. They don't need
- 1:33:19Speaker 5: you to say that in a review. That's not a review.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: Most people can read, right, Yeah.
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: Yeah, that's I'll be honest with you, bro, not just
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: because you're my friend, but like that pisses me off,
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: that makes me, That makes me.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: That.
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: That's why I don't think I interact with a lot
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: of people that do that, because you're not like what
- 1:33:42Speaker 3: are you doing? I don't you're not doing much. I
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: even questioned sometimes like maybe it's wrong, but I've been questioned.
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: I'm like, how did you get to this point? Like
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: how did you how did you manage to.
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: Get to this this.
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: Point in whatever that you do by not talking in
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: any sort of good way about anything and not diving
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: into anything, not doing any work like people like I've
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: talked to people who have been like, yeah, man, I've
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: never watched I've never listened to audio commentary in my life.
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: I'm like, wait, what you have forty thousand YouTube subs
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: for doing reviews and you've never listened to an audio commentary,
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: and OK, yeah, people aren't interested in hearing about that.
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: I'm like, no, you've just acquired the audience. You've acquired
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: the audience that doesn't care about that. I don't know, man, Maybe.
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: I don't know. I guess I guess what I'm what
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: I'm trying to figure out is like, what can we
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: do better?
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: Next year? Is it?
- 1:34:44Speaker 3: How do we begin to make a little bit of
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: positive movement in changing the way that this.
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: Is brought forward?
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: I mean, I know, I did a whole YouTube series
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: when Aero released The Inside of the Mind of Coffin
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: Joe box Set, where I dove in to every single
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: movie in that box at and I did a video
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: on it and I talked about all the bonus features.
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: I talked about everything, and I got like maybe thirty
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: consistent viewers, you know what I mean, because it's such
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: a niche thing. And at the time that I did that,
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: I was more interested in trying to, I feel like,
- 1:35:24Speaker 3: get the attention of Arrow because I was trying to
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: go that route of doing reviews and stuff and failedus
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: miraculously at it. And meanwhile, thirty people around me managed
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: to acquire relationships and all this other stuff. You know
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: what I mean by like not doing one tenth of
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: what I was putting into it. So I don't know,
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: Maybe it's a funny thing. Maybe I'm going off track,
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: maybe I'm losing my mind.
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: I mean, I've got a response for that, and I
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: don't mean to. Like I've said a lot of negative
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: things on this episode, I've never planned to. One of
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: the things that I would say is in desperate need
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: right now is for people to just stop making videos
- 1:36:09Speaker 5: about the titles that have been released eighty four times, Like,
- 1:36:12Speaker 5: we don't need you to make a special announcement video
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: that second Side is putting out Reanimator. Everybody, everybody under
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: the goddamn son knows that they're putting out Reanimator. What
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: we need is like with Terror Vision, I mean, everybody
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: gets excited about, Oh, we're putting out Student Bodies on
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: four K. Yeah, that's great. Do you want to know
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: why we're putting out Student Bodies on four K? Not
- 1:36:34Speaker 5: only is it a good movie, but it's because so
- 1:36:36Speaker 5: many people will buy Student Bodies that we can take
- 1:36:39Speaker 5: a chance on a couple other smaller movies that nobody
- 1:36:42Speaker 5: will buy I mean we put out we put out
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: Gushing Prayer earlier this year as part of the Gray
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: Face line, a title that I worked on, a title
- 1:36:49Speaker 5: that I think is great, and it sold like just shit,
- 1:36:55Speaker 5: Like I don't even know. I can't sugarcoat it, like
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: nobody bought that movie. And I don't get it, because
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: everybody's going insane right now because ooh, Vinegar Syndrome is
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: putting out pink films. Sure, and I worked on two
- 1:37:08Speaker 5: pink films at DEF, Crocodile and Tevision earlier this year
- 1:37:11Speaker 5: that hardly anybody has purchased. So is it literally just
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: because it's Vinegar Syndrome? What are we doing? If we
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: cover smaller films from smaller labels, you're actually helping in
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: a way that will make somebody's like year change. If
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: one of these small companies sold one title as well
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: as Vinegar Syndrome does, it could pay for like five
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: months worth of titles that are coming out. Literally, and
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: yet we're getting eighteen hundred videos about the Nightmare on
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: Elm Street box set. Why we've all seen all of them.
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: We all bought the same box set. We all are
- 1:37:50Speaker 5: just drooling over it together. We don't need you to
- 1:37:53Speaker 5: tell us, we need somebody to tell us about this
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: dreamy Lithuanian musical that somebody's putting out. Like that stuff
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: is not getting covered by anyone, So I do.
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: Want to set and one hundred percent agree. Sometimes there
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: is moments with like because I talked about the Vinegar Syndrome,
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: you know pink.
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: Right, I I own, I own.
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: I think the one pink title that def Crocodile did
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: put out, I did, but it was yeah, yeah, which
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: I own. I bought, I talked to you guys about it,
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: loved it, posted about it. Nobody, No, there was not
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: a single person that was like, hey, I love this movie.
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: I was like, clearly, you know, nobody knows about this
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: that I honestly at the time that I bought that
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: had still when I pulled the trigger on that had
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: never heard of the term pink films. I only knew
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: of that title because of hearing you and Will talk
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: about it. So then when I happened to kind of
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: start that transition and listening to Sam's podcast, then I
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: started hearing it and then I went back and I
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: actually have the terror I forget what what's the terrvision title?
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: The gushing prayer.
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: Gushing prayer. I remember screenshotting that because I was like, hey,
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: here's another one that I can get in the future.
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: But I do want to say I'm proud with Jordan
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: because of you Ryan to own what podcast listens are
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: going to be?
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: Like, what the hell petroglyph.
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: I was wondering if you're I thought that's what you
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: went back there to grab.
- 1:39:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, uh listen to your interview and bought this
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: right away.
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: And dude, I'm.
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: Shocked nobody has talked about this, like and I went
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: into the group chat that we're in and I was like, guys,
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: go buy this, like please buy this, and Jordan did.
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: I don't know if anybody else did, but I know
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: for a fact that Jordan did.
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: I mean, even even on the fact that you're supporting
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: this guy who's doing this these releases out of his bedroom,
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like that alone is in
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: a massive support for the community for film in general.
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: So that's I mean, if you're not gonna watch it,
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: I mean, it's not that expensive. At least support the
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: guy because if you want to see him succeed. I
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: think Chris, you were telling me or I might have
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: heard Ryan talk about it that it's not gonna he
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: can't he's not going to move on to the next
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: title until all these cell.
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, and that's I think I'm pretty sure he said,
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: like that's what he told his wife, like once all
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: these cell then we'll do another. And at that time,
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: I think he was still sitting on like like a
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: thousand I think.
- 1:40:32Speaker 5: At that something like that, and they've they've slowed down
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: even since then because I'm posting about all these new things.
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: So in a way, I'm hypocritical, I guess, because I
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: don't cover all of these things three weeks down the
- 1:40:44Speaker 5: line after I cover them once, because I would literally
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: go insane if I did. But at the other hand,
- 1:40:51Speaker 5: like i'm interviewing him, I'm sharing that I'm doing everything
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: I can to get the word out on that, and
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: I can say like I've spoken to him multiple times
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: since that inner, and he he's got a lot of
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: grand ideas. And if you literally get ten of your
- 1:41:06Speaker 5: friends to purchase this disc, you could change this man's month,
- 1:41:09Speaker 5: because it literally could could be the one sale where
- 1:41:13Speaker 5: somebody actually watches and goes, damn, like this is amazing.
- 1:41:16Speaker 5: Let me go talk about it. Let me say, hey,
- 1:41:19Speaker 5: Triangulo delro is my new favorite film and get people
- 1:41:22Speaker 5: to actually discuss that and saying that title. Most people
- 1:41:26Speaker 5: that are gonna watch this video is gonna go or
- 1:41:27Speaker 5: watch listen to the podcast is gonna go, what the
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: hell is Triangulo Deloro? They've never heard of that? Because
- 1:41:32Speaker 5: no one else is covering this. I will say the
- 1:41:36Speaker 5: Trash Mechs podcast covered it first before me. I appreciate
- 1:41:40Speaker 5: those guys immensely for putting them on there because it
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: was super important and they had a really great conversation.
- 1:41:46Speaker 5: It's like a complimentary one to ours because I try
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: not to cover if I'm interviewing somebody, I try to
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: go listen to what they've interviewed before and give props
- 1:41:53Speaker 5: to those and not just cover the same exact space.
- 1:41:56Speaker 5: So yeah, go listen to them both. He deserves full support.
- 1:42:00Speaker 4: Yeah, no, he one hundred percent does.
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: And here's the thing, man, Like, if you're really you know,
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: I know some collectors are shallow, but like this is
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: a vinegar syndrome slip cover, you know what I mean.
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: This is thick, it's embossed, it's got texture, it looks beautiful,
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: it's it's you know what I mean, Like if that,
- 1:42:15Speaker 3: if you're a person who's like, oh, what's the quality,
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: Like it's here, like it looks really nice on the shelf.
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: It's a double feature, so it's got the two posters
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: front and back. A lot of attention put in. These
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: movies are great. I didn't have as much. I can
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: never say what was the title Triglo?
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I was impressed.
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: Yes, yes, I had a much grander time with Funeral
- 1:42:40Speaker 3: Siniestro Siniestro. That was more up my alley.
- 1:42:44Speaker 5: Well, I agree, but I I that one's my favorite too.
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: But hardly anybody ever watches the B side to hear
- 1:42:50Speaker 5: everybody watches Funeral siney Estro and then forgets that there's
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: a second film. They're both worth watching. The second one
- 1:42:55Speaker 5: is like Indiana Jones with the Cyclops, like yeah, you
- 1:42:58Speaker 5: gotta watch this movie.
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: It's a lot of yeah, yeah, that's you know. I
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: just saw another company and I know they're I talked
- 1:43:07Speaker 3: to them today because I was trying to figure out
- 1:43:09Speaker 3: how to buy from them because they put out some
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: titles that I wanted. Last Slate Video yep, you know,
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: they put out these cool looking releases of Laid the
- 1:43:17Speaker 3: Rest one and two and I hit them up today
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: and I was like, hey, do you guys have any
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: like ability for like us shipping? Like I don't know
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: if you guys are working with anybody to get that.
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: I was like, because these releases look awesome, great artwork,
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: theaid the rest one to two are like like some
- 1:43:33Speaker 3: of my favorites, Like I call them like my my
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: like well kept secret because like nobody knew about them
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: for the longest time.
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: The first one's never been released in HD in the States.
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: So I hit him up and I was like, hey,
- 1:43:43Speaker 3: is there any way and they were like, hey, we're
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: working on it, but as of right now, you know,
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: we'll keep you informed. I'm like, okay, how do we
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: get this over here? Like how do we You know
- 1:43:52Speaker 3: they're great price. I think the conversion on their website
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: was like twenty five bucks apiece and they come with
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: art cards, a slipcover. You know, I'll pay fifty bucks
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: to own to two of those on blue ray from
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: a small label like that.
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: You know that's not I'm not I'm not worried about that.
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: So I guess all of this to kind of wrap
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: around again and just figure out, like do we keep
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: on the path that we're on and and just keep
- 1:44:19Speaker 3: keep trying, or like, what what can we like, what
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: can we do from an insider perspective, Ryan, what can
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: we do? What conversations can we start that aren't happening?
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: What are some things we can really start pushing on
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: that you think will help drive things better for next year?
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: I mean, start a podcast talking about horror commentaries that
- 1:44:41Speaker 5: would probably be very helpful.
- 1:44:43Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a great idea for anybody who wants to do.
- 1:44:48Speaker 5: No, the reality is kind of what I just said
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: a minute ago, like when I don't know, like I
- 1:44:54Speaker 5: don't want to dive too deep into this anymore. But
- 1:44:57Speaker 5: like if if Clueless gets announced on four coming from
- 1:45:00Speaker 5: paramount that gets eight hundred pickup videos, reviews, it gets
- 1:45:05Speaker 5: mentioned on top of the year list, and yet there
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: are companies that worked seven months to put together a
- 1:45:12Speaker 5: better looking four K in better packaging, with better special features,
- 1:45:16Speaker 5: and you're not even going to know about it because
- 1:45:18Speaker 5: anybody that you listen to on podcast and on YouTube
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: and all that only wanted to talk to you about
- 1:45:24Speaker 5: the stuff that they got sent for free. And these
- 1:45:26Speaker 5: small companies cannot afford to send things out for free,
- 1:45:29Speaker 5: and based on that, they don't get reviews. And so
- 1:45:32Speaker 5: if you are bored or excited about physical media and
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: you're looking into some of these, go look at the
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: Disconnected And I'm not just trying to pitch myself, but literally,
- 1:45:41Speaker 5: it's the only site on the Internet that I know
- 1:45:44Speaker 5: of that covers every single English friendly release worldwide. The
- 1:45:48Speaker 5: other people that do this, and I'll say the name
- 1:45:51Speaker 5: right now, you should not be following Donna the discs.
- 1:45:53Speaker 5: He is somebody that the labels do not respect. He
- 1:45:56Speaker 5: is somebody that has repeatedly shown to just put things
- 1:45:59Speaker 5: out there for clicks. You should be following somebody that's
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: not going to do that. And so go look at
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: the don the Wow almost look at the Disconnected feed.
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: Go look at the Disconnected feed until you find either
- 1:46:11Speaker 5: a company or a film that you have never heard of.
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: Go buy that film instead of your eighteenth copy of
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: Georgia Merrow's Day of the Dead, instead of your seventeenth
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: copy of you know, fucking Texas Chainsaw Masker. Like, yeah,
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: we get it that it's had amazing releases throughout the
- 1:46:30Speaker 5: years on every format, like nine times. That's hardly even exaggerating.
- 1:46:36Speaker 5: That's the problem. Yeah, you need to put more time
- 1:46:38Speaker 5: into some of these smaller companies. And this is the
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: Royal you not not Chris and Jordan, but you know
- 1:46:44Speaker 5: some of these Like we just saw Tron and Tron
- 1:46:47Speaker 5: Legacy sell out on every website when it was released
- 1:46:50Speaker 5: on four KSE deal book in the US within a
- 1:46:52Speaker 5: span of like an hour and a half. Imagine how
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: you could change literally the owner of a company that
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: is running the company by himself if you did that
- 1:47:02Speaker 5: for some of these smaller companies. One of my best
- 1:47:06Speaker 5: examples that I always share for this is Third Window
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: Films in the UK. I get it the UK, It's
- 1:47:11Speaker 5: Region B. So many people that are going to hear
- 1:47:13Speaker 5: this or only Region A. Just imagine for a second.
- 1:47:16Speaker 5: Third Window Films in the UK is run by one
- 1:47:18Speaker 5: gentleman named Adam, and Adam puts his heart and soul
- 1:47:22Speaker 5: into every single title. He is the graphic designer. He
- 1:47:26Speaker 5: authors the discs, he does special features, he does the subtitling.
- 1:47:30Speaker 5: He acquired the film in the first place. He helps
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: facilitate recording of the special features. He q sees his
- 1:47:36Speaker 5: own disc, he checks the packaging, He does all of
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: that stuff and then goes and markets it to the
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: world and nobody purchases them. Yeah, what are we doing?
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: Like that guy is giving his life to keep this
- 1:47:50Speaker 5: company going, And there's been multiple times that Adam has
- 1:47:52Speaker 5: been on the verge of hanging it up because stuff
- 1:47:54Speaker 5: is not selling.
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: I do want to say pink films there one of
- 1:48:00Speaker 3: the one of the leaders and putting them out Third
- 1:48:03Speaker 3: Window Films, they were kind of at least out there,
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Like.
- 1:48:10Speaker 5: They have not done many pink films in the way
- 1:48:12Speaker 5: that you're alluding to. They put out two pink film
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: collections four or five years ago that both had to
- 1:48:16Speaker 5: go out of print very quickly, and then this year
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: they've done a couple that you might be able to
- 1:48:21Speaker 5: call pink films. Some people probably even wouldn't call those
- 1:48:24Speaker 5: pink films. And I didn't mean to come off as
- 1:48:29Speaker 5: kind of like that, but yeah, I'll stop there, but yeah,
- 1:48:34Speaker 5: support Third Window Films.
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, yeah, I mean that's I think that's really
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: like the best that we can we can continue to
- 1:48:42Speaker 3: do is just keep talking about things and keep spreading
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: the word and just keep sharing.
- 1:48:49Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: It's kind of like I think sometimes.
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: We all undermine the reach that we have, you know,
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: and simply like the power of just the share button.
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: I know, like my Instagram alone, I have I average
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: like one hundred and seventy thousand interactions a month on
- 1:49:07Speaker 3: my page because I share like a motherfucker.
- 1:49:09Speaker 4: But also, but you know, but.
- 1:49:11Speaker 3: Like I, sometimes you don't realize the impact that that
- 1:49:14Speaker 3: has to just click the share button or click the
- 1:49:17Speaker 3: repost button or do anything like that. So I think
- 1:49:22Speaker 3: we need to just focus more on on doing that
- 1:49:25Speaker 3: and focus more on the conversation that you know, that
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: we're having. You know, it's I don't know, man, I
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: hope next year is uh, I hope, I hope better
- 1:49:38Speaker 3: because there was a lot of bullshit this year, man,
- 1:49:41Speaker 3: Like there was so much, you know, it's like Day
- 1:49:46Speaker 3: of the Dead you brought up. I feel like the
- 1:49:48Speaker 3: only person in the world who's not going to buy
- 1:49:50Speaker 3: that four K, just saying.
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: Not interested.
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: Unless there's some incredible, brand new bonus features. I don't
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: need it. I don't need to talk about it. I
- 1:50:03Speaker 3: don't need to post a review about it. If there's
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: a couple of new commentaries and that intrigues me enough
- 1:50:09Speaker 3: to you know, potentially cover them on this show one day,
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: you know, that's cool, and that might be, that might
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: be worth the dollars. But if it's it's gonna come
- 1:50:17Speaker 3: out with no new bonus features and it's just a
- 1:50:20Speaker 3: new four K restoration. It's not getting my money.
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: Sorry, I'm not. You know, there are four K restorations
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: I'm very excited for. I think one.
- 1:50:32Speaker 3: It's been teased heavily is Grindhouse doing a you know,
- 1:50:36Speaker 3: much more extravagant release Accounibal Holocaust. But I one of
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: my favorite movies of all time. Ryan, before you shake
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: your head of.
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: Well, what I'm getting at is it's already been put
- 1:50:46Speaker 5: out on four K by eighty eight films.
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: No, I know, but I don't own that.
- 1:50:51Speaker 5: Cool and I get it. I like, I don't. I
- 1:50:54Speaker 5: don't know. I don't own it either. I I don't know.
- 1:50:58Speaker 5: I don't. I don't mean to shoot on this, but
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: there's like so many things coming out that's not something
- 1:51:02Speaker 5: like Campibell. Holocaust has been released like eleven times and
- 1:51:06Speaker 5: that's just by Anchor Bay between two thousand and two
- 1:51:08Speaker 5: to two thousand and five, Like what are we doing?
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: Like I again, I don't. I upgrade a lot of
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: stuff too, I double dip on a lot of stuff too.
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: I don't mean to shit on that, but the attention
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: should be on stuff that is this is the first
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: time it's ever been released. This is the first time
- 1:51:24Speaker 5: that it's been on discs since DVD in two thousand
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: and one. This is the first time it's been on
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: HD in the States or something like that. Those are
- 1:51:32Speaker 5: what excites me, and that's what is going to make
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: an impact on the industry.
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: I did a video this past year on my YouTube
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: about when Grindhouse released Hollywood nine two eight.
- 1:51:41Speaker 5: It's a big deal, you.
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: Know, that was incredible.
- 1:51:43Speaker 3: That's actually like, if you go on my letterbox right now,
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: it's in my top four favorites that movie is. It's
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: a great movie, incredible, And then when you get into
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: the bonus features and you learn that the whole entire
- 1:51:53Speaker 3: movie had to be adr because they lost all the audio,
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: and you realize the amount of work and stress that
- 1:51:58Speaker 3: went into not only that movie existing, but then for
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: it to get a four K release with all these
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: new bonus features and all this new stuff. You know,
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: that's incredible. One movie this past year that I think
- 1:52:09Speaker 3: everyone kind of passed over. Maybe people weren't the biggest fan,
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: but you know, and I know that this company gets
- 1:52:15Speaker 3: a little bit of a rep but like I was
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: a big fan of Dark Sky putting out Blackout the
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: Larry Fastenden are a Werewolf movie, you.
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: Know, I was.
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: I kind of felt like I was alone in a stadium,
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: you know, cheering for my favorite team, and everybody else
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: was on.
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: The other side.
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: Like I'm like, please like this, Like I you know, hey,
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: Dark Sky, they're putting out a Chainsaw Texas Chainsaw Maska release.
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: How about take twenty bucks by Blackout. It's really good,
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: I promise you guys, And nobody gave a shit, so uh,
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: I don't know. I know this podcast has been a
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: little all over the place, but I love this like
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: I love this. This has been This has been an
- 1:52:55Speaker 3: awesome time. So I can't thank you guys enough, you know,
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: for coming on and doing this. Ryan, especially you know
- 1:53:03Speaker 3: you coming on as always. I appreciate We have.
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: So much.
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: It's been hectic, and I know it's annoying with delays
- 1:53:15Speaker 3: and stuff like that on things, but you know, I
- 1:53:18Speaker 3: promise everybody listening we have been hard at work. We
- 1:53:21Speaker 3: have sleep Away Camp we teamed up with in Psycho
- 1:53:24Speaker 3: Apocalypse publications to not just talk about the sleep Away
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: Camp commentary, but also the new novelization written by b. R. Flynn,
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: which is incredible. I highly recommend everybody go spend the
- 1:53:37Speaker 3: fifteen dollars to support Encsycopocalypse, but also get that novelization.
- 1:53:41Speaker 4: It's really really good.
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: We actually haven't this this will be I guess the
- 1:53:47Speaker 3: official announcement. We recorded a podcast episode with almost the
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: entire main cast of sleep Away Camp, so we it's recorded,
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: it's getting ready to come out. It will an incredible time,
- 1:54:01Speaker 3: some great stories, I think more what was most impactful
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: about that is just having this cast back together again.
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: It turned into more of a reunion, which felt so
- 1:54:14Speaker 3: good to have, you know, and I think that episode
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: is just gonna be a great companion piece. We recently
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: put out an interview with Anthony Cousins, director of Frogman
- 1:54:24Speaker 3: and the upcoming Frogman Returns, which just had its premiere.
- 1:54:28Speaker 3: He was incredible. We went on for over two hours
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: with him about Frogman and genre film and all kinds
- 1:54:36Speaker 3: of stuff, a lot of insight into Frogman Returns and
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: just really cool stuff.
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:54:43Speaker 3: For the rest of the year, we're dropping a commentary
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: episode on ELI Roth's Thanksgiving to celebrate Turkey Day. Next month,
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: we have our episode dropping on popcorn at the beginning
- 1:54:57Speaker 3: of November, the most underrate did nineties horror film ever
- 1:55:02Speaker 3: in my opinion.
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: I love that movie to death.
- 1:55:05Speaker 3: And then we're covering Uh Misery in December, which is
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: gonna be a big deal. Very excited about that. And
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: then next year, yeah, we have our season three, which
- 1:55:17Speaker 3: kicks off in January. Is gonna be all Shallows. So
- 1:55:20Speaker 3: we're gonna be covering a bunch of stuff, a whole
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: bunch of stuff from Celluloid Dreams. We're actually going to
- 1:55:27Speaker 3: be covering three of their releases and three of their
- 1:55:30Speaker 3: commentary tracks. Damn Yeah, which is a which is a
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: big deal because that's a company that we really want
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: to champion, and you know, we know that they're pretty
- 1:55:41Speaker 3: much a two man team and they're doing incredible stuff.
- 1:55:45Speaker 3: So we're gonna be covering the commentary for Case of

- 1:56:06Speaker 3: so lots of big stuff on the way, and I'm
- 1:56:09Speaker 3: very excited to, uh, you know, expose everybody to our goods.
- 1:56:21Speaker 5: I love that you realize what you said the moment
- 1:56:23Speaker 5: you finished seeing.
- 1:56:25Speaker 4: No, it was ass I just had to keep a
- 1:56:27Speaker 4: committed and then I had to you know, he had
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: to planned out, he was.
- 1:56:33Speaker 5: I had to finish what.
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: Here we go, like the Spider Man meme, We're all
- 1:56:39Speaker 3: like pointed way as always before we go. Please make
- 1:56:44Speaker 3: sure to go down in the description click the link
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: to our networks someone's favorite productions. Tons of incredible podcasts
- 1:56:52Speaker 3: on there. Please go check them out. I know I've
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: been a huge fan recently of The Sin Syndicate. It's
- 1:56:59Speaker 3: become one of my favorite shows on our network. For
- 1:57:02Speaker 3: those who don't know, Uh, Ryan is I guess what.
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: Do we do?
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: We call you a producer? What do we call you?
- 1:57:10Speaker 5: I don't know? Call you sure? Sure.
- 1:57:14Speaker 3: Ryan is one of our producers for the show, and
- 1:57:19Speaker 3: he has cataloged an incredible batch of not even batching
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: the entire network of shows that are educational. They're all
- 1:57:28Speaker 3: incredibly unique. Everybody involved is doing absolutely incredible work and
- 1:57:32Speaker 3: We're so honored to be kind of paired up alongside them.
- 1:57:35Speaker 3: It's actually kind of nerve wracking because like we have
- 1:57:37Speaker 3: such good stuff, you know, around us, we got to
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: try to keep up and uh yeah, but Jordan let
- 1:57:45Speaker 3: people know where they can find you, man.
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: Yeah, you know He's we talked about earlier in the podcast.
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: But you know the movie dn uh YouTube Instagram is
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: kind of my main main area. Yeah, just talking about
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: love of film and mainly the horror genre. But I
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: I dabble, I dabble into some other stuff. Some stuff
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: coming up next week. Well, well I don't know. Whenever
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: this podcast drops, I'm.
- 1:58:14Speaker 3: Just dropping whats today Wednesday, dropping on this is dropping
- 1:58:19Speaker 3: on Friday.
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: Perfect, so then this will be relevant starting uh next week.
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: We have a planned was to be a lot bigger,
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: but you know, things happen and uh so we're gonna
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: be covering some Halloween films for the week of Halloween
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: and we got a few lives going on. I know, Chris,
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: you're gonna be joining us for uh season of the Witch.
- 1:58:42Speaker 4: Yeah, so that's gonna be fun. Well we'll talk.
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: About that one. We covered that one and it's a
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: great one. Do I love that movie, but also normally
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: so it's Wednesday Thursday. Usually, we had planned to do
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: our year by year nineteen eighty one episode of here
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: Very Year. That's gonna get postponed until next month, so
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: that is when we'll be covering our six seven, eight,
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: how many titles we decided on to covering the year
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: of nineteen eighty one and Horror, So stay tuned for that.
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: That is coming. Just a couple of speed bumps, but
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: that's all right. We'll we'll still have a lot of
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: fun with all the stuff we're gonna be putting out.
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: And I'm excited. And Chris, thank you so much for
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: asking me to come on. I had a good time.
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: Love it as always. And Ryan, it's fun tonight. It's
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: nice to finally meet you in person, face to face.
- 1:59:35Speaker 4: You too.
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: Sorry I listen to your Disconnected I did. It was
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: funny listen I do through the podcast so it's like
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: where I'm driving for and stuff. And I might have
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: told Chris, but it's so funny because it's on Fridays,
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: I'll listen to it and every Friday I get nervous
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: because I know that there's gonna be a couple of
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: new titles added to my car that I am just
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: oh okay, and it's all it just grows every so.
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: But thank you for doing that. Ryan, that's awesome. And yeah,
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: guys had a lot of fun.
- 2:00:05Speaker 4: Yeah dude, I appreciate you man so much.
- 2:00:07Speaker 3: I don't consider this episode negative more than I can
- 2:00:10Speaker 3: more than I consider it constructive, you know what I mean,
- 2:00:13Speaker 3: Because in order to in order to get better, you
- 2:00:16Speaker 3: have to highlight what's not working, you know what I mean.
- 2:00:19Speaker 3: And I don't want people to be like, oh man,
- 2:00:21Speaker 3: this was just them shitting on the computerity on the community.
- 2:00:25Speaker 3: It's like, no, we have to highlight what's not working
- 2:00:27Speaker 3: to begin to move forward on what is going to
- 2:00:29Speaker 3: work and what we can do. So I don't consider
- 2:00:34Speaker 3: this you know, at least I didn't perceive any of
- 2:00:37Speaker 3: it as negative.
- 2:00:37Speaker 4: I'm sure our audience will let us know, but you know,
- 2:00:41Speaker 4: we gotta do we do.
- 2:00:43Speaker 3: I think these are important conversations that have They're awkward
- 2:00:45Speaker 3: to have because you don't want to. You don't want
- 2:00:48Speaker 3: to be the asshole that's like calling people out and
- 2:00:49Speaker 3: saying what's wrong and was right. But somebody's also got
- 2:00:52Speaker 3: to just point it out and say it. You know
- 2:00:54Speaker 3: what I mean, So, Ryan, anything that you want to
- 2:00:58Speaker 3: shout out, anything you want to you know, plug before
- 2:01:00Speaker 3: we head out.
- 2:01:01Speaker 5: Sure, I mean yeah, Like I said, everywhere under the
- 2:01:05Speaker 5: name that disconnected highlight to something coming up soon. I
- 2:01:09Speaker 5: just recently sat down for an interview with Steven Morowitz,
- 2:01:12Speaker 5: who is the guy running speaking of adult films, the
- 2:01:15Speaker 5: entire Miliu scene side of the Vinegar Syndrome site. I
- 2:01:20Speaker 5: genuinely get excited for most of my interviews, but this
- 2:01:23Speaker 5: one is incredibly compelling. Steven's dad, For those that have
- 2:01:25Speaker 5: never heard the name before, he was known as the
- 2:01:28Speaker 5: godfather of physical media for a long time. He started
- 2:01:32Speaker 5: so much of what you've probably seen throughout the years.
- 2:01:36Speaker 5: It is a hell of a conversation. We literally spent
- 2:01:39Speaker 5: five hours together on a call. Four hours of it
- 2:01:42Speaker 5: was recorded. It'll be chopped down quite a bit, but man,
- 2:01:46Speaker 5: it's a just fascinating conversation. For those that don't know,
- 2:01:50Speaker 5: I put out a physical media and film focused magazine
- 2:01:53Speaker 5: as well, which is not something that most people, you know,
- 2:01:56Speaker 5: expect to see in twenty twenty five. You can find
- 2:01:59Speaker 5: that on Amazon or in a bunch of break and
- 2:02:01Speaker 5: mortar stores as well. It's called the Physical Media Advocate,
- 2:02:04Speaker 5: and check that out there. And then finally, I don't
- 2:02:08Speaker 5: like teasing things too much because I think that trying
- 2:02:11Speaker 5: to live up to something that we can't always live
- 2:02:13Speaker 5: up to. But I will say and I also don't
- 2:02:16Speaker 5: really pitch my Patreon all that much, but I've started
- 2:02:19Speaker 5: teasing some bits and bobs of a major project that
- 2:02:23Speaker 5: I've been working on for I'm not exaggerating here at
- 2:02:27Speaker 5: least eighteen months, and it's not going to be fully
- 2:02:31Speaker 5: public until probably just after the new year. But there
- 2:02:34Speaker 5: is some incredible things coming in twenty twenty six. And
- 2:02:38Speaker 5: if you want some behind the scenes access to stuff
- 2:02:41Speaker 5: that no one else will be able to see, check
- 2:02:44Speaker 5: out the Patreon. We would love to have you and
- 2:02:45Speaker 5: get access to my discord which I hate to like
- 2:02:50Speaker 5: use superlatives, but I think it's one of the best
- 2:02:52Speaker 5: physical media communities on the Internet. There's no bashing. We
- 2:02:56Speaker 5: all really try not to give in de fomo and
- 2:02:58Speaker 5: help each other out. There's a lot of just education
- 2:03:01Speaker 5: and sharing of things that people are after a title
- 2:03:04Speaker 5: and somebody finds it somewhere like people remember, and it's
- 2:03:06Speaker 5: not just a small community like we have over one
- 2:03:08Speaker 5: hundred people on the discord and people remember to tag
- 2:03:11Speaker 5: somebody because something is back in stock, and like, you
- 2:03:14Speaker 5: don't get that kind of service anywhere else. It's pretty
- 2:03:16Speaker 5: damn incredible, so check it out. We'd love to have you.
- 2:03:19Speaker 3: Yeah, well incredible, man, dude, thank you, Thank both of
- 2:03:23Speaker 3: you guys so much. I know it's been chaotic, but honestly,
- 2:03:26Speaker 3: I wouldn't have it any other way.
- 2:03:27Speaker 4: Wouldn't change a thing. So we'll catch everybody next time
- 2:03:31Speaker 4: on Beyond the Blood. Take care.
- 2:03:40Speaker 5: Thank you for listening.
