- 0:04Speaker 1: and Matt Flynn.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where.
- 0:07Speaker 1: The plays get broken down and science gets denied the Bench.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench Live from downtown Baton
- 0:14Speaker 1: Rouge starts.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Now.
- 0:50Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in our number two of O
- 0:53Speaker 2: t B.
- 0:54Speaker 4: Jake flann A Laundret All here with you here in
- 0:58Speaker 4: this hour, we're gonna have doctor Stephen Aridge join us.
- 1:01Speaker 4: There's some big, big injury news for not only an
- 1:05Speaker 4: SEC star, but maybe the front runner and the Heisman
- 1:08Speaker 4: Trophy conversation John Mattier that will break down with doctor
- 1:12Speaker 4: Ethridge will break down the old miss quarterbacks here in
- 1:15Speaker 4: this segment as well. But if you'll remember last week,
- 1:19Speaker 4: there wasn't LSU player that got ejected for targeting.
- 1:23Speaker 2: No, it was not a defender.
- 1:24Speaker 4: It was an offensive lineman on a field goal that
- 1:27Speaker 4: was about ten yards short and there was a return
- 1:30Speaker 4: situation and Taytay him being out could be something to
- 1:33Speaker 4: pay attention to in Saturday's game.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, we were talking about it during break.
- 1:38Speaker 5: It's an underrated talking point because if you remember, in
- 1:41Speaker 5: the Clemson game, Tyree Adams had to leave for a
- 1:44Speaker 5: couple of games. DJ Chester was your left tackle. He
- 1:46Speaker 5: has played right tackle. You know he could play both
- 1:48Speaker 5: guard spots. You know he could play center. He's your
- 1:51Speaker 5: sixth man. So now if somebody goes down, it's a
- 1:54Speaker 5: true backup situation. Like you'll throw Kerrent in there, talented,
- 1:57Speaker 5: hadn't played a ton. You'll throw Ory Williams in there,
- 2:00Speaker 5: did and play in a ton. Braydon Augustus former walk on,
- 2:03Speaker 5: played a little bit last week. That's really all he's
- 2:06Speaker 5: he's done action wise, Kelly said on Monday, like he
- 2:09Speaker 5: will be the center if something happens to Braylen Moore,
- 2:12Speaker 5: who's already still kind of banged up in the first
- 2:15Speaker 5: half of that game. Like that's an underrated point to me,
- 2:18Speaker 5: because when you have a guy like Chester that you
- 2:20Speaker 5: could just slide in there, it was a starter a
- 2:21Speaker 5: year ago. You feel a lot better about that than
- 2:24Speaker 5: having a guy that really hasn't played at all in
- 2:26Speaker 5: the SEC. Now you're on the road, Like that's huge,
- 2:29Speaker 5: we're not talking about it a ton.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Uh.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Chester actually is probably your swing offensive lineman. And I
- 2:34Speaker 4: don't mean swing like swing guard, swing tackle, swing everything. Yep,
- 2:37Speaker 4: he is going to come in a guard tackle or
- 2:39Speaker 4: the center position. So look at he's not out for
- 2:42Speaker 4: the game. He's out for the first half, which, by
- 2:44Speaker 4: the way, like what targeting?
- 2:46Speaker 2: What are we doing? Like did they ever explain that.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Let's fix it, because because I was asking you, guys,
- 2:51Speaker 5: the field goal should have been blown dead because they
- 2:53Speaker 5: said it was a pre snap penalty, so he wanted.
- 2:56Speaker 2: That never happened. So the play never happens.
- 2:58Speaker 5: But the targeting, which in the first place, still stands stupid.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Targeting is so broken. I was watching.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Clemson and Syracuse and Clemson's edge rusher did a spin move,
- 3:11Speaker 4: got free, launched into the Syracuse quarterback and kind of
- 3:16Speaker 4: grazed the side of his helmet, but his head was
- 3:18Speaker 4: down crown of the helmet. I'm like, look, I don't
- 3:20Speaker 4: want that guy thrown out of that game, but they're
- 3:22Speaker 4: going to call that for targeting. They flagged it, they
- 3:24Speaker 4: reviewed it, no targeting. I was like, wait, wait, like
- 3:28Speaker 4: so that's not targeting. And again I'm glad that the
- 3:31Speaker 4: guy got to play the rest of the game, because
- 3:32Speaker 4: I think it's dumb you get kicked out of the game.
- 3:34Speaker 2: But he launched crown of the helmet.
- 3:36Speaker 4: He just the quarterback was lucky enough to kind of
- 3:38Speaker 4: turn his head and so it grazed the side of
- 3:40Speaker 4: his helmet and not his face mask. But the last
- 3:43Speaker 4: two that I've seen for LSU, those are considered targeting,
- 3:46Speaker 4: get you kicked out of the game and launching at
- 3:48Speaker 4: the quarter of Okay, got it cool because it's broken
- 3:52Speaker 4: his hell so bad?
- 3:54Speaker 6: Yeah, the penalty is just it's so severe, and I
- 3:58Speaker 6: get it if you want to preach safety, it's great,
- 4:01Speaker 6: But like to have to to be able to go
- 4:03Speaker 6: and suspend a kid for any amount of time, like
- 4:08Speaker 6: there has to be a malicious attempt like that, there's
- 4:11Speaker 6: no there's no argument that you can make against that
- 4:16Speaker 6: if you want to like make a deep seated fear
- 4:18Speaker 6: of these guys because you can't really find them whatever
- 4:21Speaker 6: it is. Because like in the NFL, like you don't
- 4:23Speaker 6: get suspended a lot, but you do have the fear
- 4:25Speaker 6: of the pocketbook making your wallet a little bit lighter.
- 4:28Speaker 6: And in college, I guess you don't have that. You know,
- 4:31Speaker 6: who knows it might go to that. But to be
- 4:36Speaker 6: able to suspend somebody for action for a play that
- 4:41Speaker 6: you're given effort on, for a bang bang play without malicious,
- 4:45Speaker 6: then Now, if you if you maliciously go in there
- 4:47Speaker 6: and try to hurt somebody, you can tell that and
- 4:49Speaker 6: but and that, But that needs to be reviewed by
- 4:51Speaker 6: like the NCAA office or the conference office or whatever.
- 4:56Speaker 6: It is almost at the league office, like it's the NFL.
- 4:59Speaker 6: But I guess I'm assuming that the NCAA is competent
- 5:02Speaker 6: enough to do that and do it right. But that
- 5:05Speaker 6: should be a reviewed situation. That is not determined just
- 5:09Speaker 6: because a guy with a quick trigger finger threw a
- 5:12Speaker 6: flag on something and or they did a booth review
- 5:16Speaker 6: and they're like, well, technically, he dipped his head right
- 5:19Speaker 6: at the last second, not to mention that he was
- 5:22Speaker 6: running full speed and have to jump over a guy
- 5:24Speaker 6: to try to like scramble and bite and call him
- 5:27Speaker 6: scratch to get to the ball carrier to make a tackle.
- 5:29Speaker 6: He just ducked his head like instinctively reactively.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Hey, this offensive lineman who doesn't tackle people got put
- 5:35Speaker 4: in a situation where they were turning a field goal
- 5:37Speaker 4: that was short and he was trying to get the
- 5:39Speaker 4: guy on the ground.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah, no, off, the receiver's going over the middle.
- 5:43Speaker 6: And you're a safety and like you and there's a
- 5:46Speaker 6: picture taking of you and you're horizontal to the ground
- 5:48Speaker 6: with your head like that. Like we've seen those players.
- 5:50Speaker 6: We get it, and that pretty much has been removed
- 5:52Speaker 6: from the game. You see it every now and then,
- 5:54Speaker 6: but the malicious plays have pretty much been removed from
- 5:57Speaker 6: the game. But to penalize somebody for a high effort
- 6:01Speaker 6: and just playing the football game or instinctively reacting to something,
- 6:05Speaker 6: get out of here with that trash.
- 6:07Speaker 4: If I okay, let meet those around the room, all right.
- 6:11Speaker 4: If you were the commissioner of college football, I'm not
- 6:15Speaker 4: talking about the NCAA SEC, the commissioner of college football.
- 6:19Speaker 2: What's the first thing that you would do as far
- 6:23Speaker 2: as the.
- 6:23Speaker 4: Rule anything, no, anything, any anything you would do with
- 6:26Speaker 4: college football.
- 6:28Speaker 2: That's a big question. You should have a big answer.
- 6:32Speaker 6: I mean, well, because it's fresh on the brain, I
- 6:34Speaker 6: would fix the targeting right.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Now, that's okay, that's okay to be the answer, because
- 6:38Speaker 2: I would fig as well.
- 6:39Speaker 4: I'd like to think about it for at least four
- 6:41Speaker 4: to five days. That's not how radio works it.
- 6:44Speaker 2: But I died a week words of prep, I know
- 6:47Speaker 2: I would make.
- 6:49Speaker 6: I would eliminate Notre Dame's football program to make them
- 6:53Speaker 6: join make them joy conference or eliminate their program.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:00Speaker 7: I think the most egregious thing is the transfer portal,
- 7:05Speaker 7: right now, like the amount of times that you can wait?
- 7:08Speaker 8: Can can that be part of it?
- 7:09Speaker 2: Yeah? Anything you want your commission.
- 7:12Speaker 7: Right, Okay, So I would fix the transfer portal because
- 7:18Speaker 7: I know they're already starting to put some rules in
- 7:20Speaker 7: the world. They put like one rule in place, they
- 7:22Speaker 7: put the timeline or whatever. But I that would be
- 7:25Speaker 7: my first thing, Like you cannot transfer, you cannot t J.
- 7:28Speaker 8: Finley all this stuff.
- 7:29Speaker 6: So you get nine, you get them like one free transfer,
- 7:32Speaker 6: and then like, hey, think about it this way.
- 7:35Speaker 2: TJ. Finley's transferred more than I have children. It's a lot.
- 7:39Speaker 2: That's a lot. I mean, whoa, whoa more than transfers.
- 7:44Speaker 8: Yeah, that's too many.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Not kids.
- 7:47Speaker 8: But I think that's the one thing that I would
- 7:50Speaker 8: fix that. And yeah, the targeting is pretty bad because
- 7:56Speaker 8: you're You're.
- 7:57Speaker 7: Totally right, like if it's something like with or DJ Chester,
- 8:01Speaker 7: just because those examples are fresh on the mind, there
- 8:05Speaker 7: was no they did not do that with the intent
- 8:08Speaker 7: to hurt that.
- 8:09Speaker 8: No, you're also with like I don't know what like.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Kind of like fell like into them, like softly. It
- 8:15Speaker 2: wasn't even you have to make contact. Yeah, you have
- 8:19Speaker 2: to make contact, yeah, I.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Guess, and look as a as an offensive player, like
- 8:25Speaker 4: I used to lower my head all the time, and
- 8:28Speaker 4: they still do that. I don't see them ever get
- 8:30Speaker 4: called for it. So what's the safety portion you're talking
- 8:33Speaker 4: about players with all time?
- 8:35Speaker 2: And I don't blame them either. Hey, we know what
- 8:37Speaker 2: we signed up for. We get it.
- 8:39Speaker 8: It really feels it all again.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Hell yeah, right, and I'm one concussion away from being
- 8:45Speaker 4: you know, Billy Bob and not another teen movie.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Okay, and I do it all again. You realize what
- 8:50Speaker 2: you're signing up for.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Yeah, and you're not trying to go out there, Like
- 8:53Speaker 4: to y'all's point, if you're trying to hurt somebody, that's
- 8:56Speaker 4: a different situation than trying to make a player protect.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Yourself a little bit.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:00Speaker 7: And then to like have to sit the first half
- 9:03Speaker 7: or what got ejected for the rest of the game,
- 9:05Speaker 7: like it just it doesn't make any sense to me
- 9:08Speaker 7: because it also feels like the refs and the NCAA
- 9:12Speaker 7: officials they.
- 9:13Speaker 8: Don't even know what the rule is.
- 9:15Speaker 2: No, it's the will.
- 9:16Speaker 8: Yeah, they're like, oh, I think that was targeting.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, let me hear those conversations too with you
- 9:22Speaker 4: and Birmingham. Let me hear those the uh was it?
- 9:26Speaker 4: The the UFL does that right? Yeah, you get to
- 9:29Speaker 4: let me let me hear it. Like the fact that
- 9:32Speaker 4: we don't have transparency in that it still just blows
- 9:35Speaker 4: my mind.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Well, we were talking the Oklahoma Auburn game.
- 9:39Speaker 5: The SEC refs after the game came out and they're like, yeah,
- 9:42Speaker 5: we blew those two calls.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Oh cool, Auburn still got a loss, and there you
- 9:45Speaker 2: can do it. There's nothing you can do about it.
- 9:46Speaker 4: So hey, thanks, Hey, humans make mistakes, guys, Yeah, and
- 9:50Speaker 4: so do I. I made a mistake when I fumbled. You
- 9:52Speaker 4: made mistake when you do an interception, Taylor. You made
- 9:54Speaker 4: a mistake if you missed tackle in high school, right,
- 9:56Speaker 4: Landri you made a mistake if you struck out.
- 9:58Speaker 2: In softball, right Okay.
- 9:59Speaker 4: We we had to answer to those mistakes, though, all
- 10:02Speaker 4: of us had to answer to.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Somebody talk about them somewhere. Okay.
- 10:06Speaker 4: The fact that they still don't make them, like those
- 10:08Speaker 4: officials that blew those calls in that Alburn Oklahoma game,
- 10:11Speaker 4: should have to get in front of a microphone just
- 10:14Speaker 4: like we are and say yes, question one in the
- 10:17Speaker 4: front row, question six in the back row, because you
- 10:20Speaker 4: cast somebody potentially a massive game.
- 10:24Speaker 5: I know this is I'm gonna play this clip for
- 10:27Speaker 5: you guys. It was Oklahoma Auburn, and when I saw
- 10:30Speaker 5: this play, I'm like, how is this not targeting? Reps
- 10:33Speaker 5: didn't question it, people on the broadcast didn't nothing. This
- 10:37Speaker 5: is kind of textbook and nothing was done about I'm
- 10:39Speaker 5: gonna try to pause that. I can only find it
- 10:41Speaker 5: on a short so leaves his feet okay, like literally
- 10:47Speaker 5: launches into the hits him in the back of the helmet,
- 10:50Speaker 5: sax Jackson artomy.
- 10:51Speaker 2: How is that not targeting? But what wit Weeks and
- 10:54Speaker 2: what DJ Chester did or yeah, at least I'm assuming.
- 11:00Speaker 8: Yeah, does that like at least roughly the passer.
- 11:03Speaker 5: Yeah, they didn't call any thing. They got up and
- 11:07Speaker 5: they played on. So like for me, the rule I'm changing.
- 11:10Speaker 5: I'm not changing targeting. I'm eliminating the targeting penalty from
- 11:14Speaker 5: college football, going just.
- 11:16Speaker 6: Be like the NFL. Just it's a personal fould and
- 11:19Speaker 6: if the league muse it, you can get suspended fifteen years.
- 11:21Speaker 6: If you spin somebody's face before the game. You can
- 11:23Speaker 6: get kicked out.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Of the game.
- 11:24Speaker 5: You're not getting kicked out of the game. There is
- 11:26Speaker 5: no targeting penalty. Nobody to play if you get kicked
- 11:29Speaker 5: out of the game.
- 11:30Speaker 2: These guys are professional football players. Find them.
- 11:33Speaker 6: Yeah right, they're getting they're gonna get Oh because of
- 11:38Speaker 6: one old guy's opinion. Yeah, a kid that works this
- 11:42Speaker 6: tailed off all week gets loses eligibility for two quarters
- 11:46Speaker 6: of football.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Yeah, sometimes it can be like with it can be
- 11:50Speaker 4: basically the whole game.
- 11:52Speaker 2: If four quarters of football, yeah, yeah, face on an opinion.
- 11:56Speaker 6: It shouldn't be based on an opinion of an old
- 11:59Speaker 6: guy in a striped shirt on the field. Okay, it
- 12:02Speaker 6: should be all right, Okay, you hit them, I'll give
- 12:06Speaker 6: you a fifteen yard penalty. Maybe it was a bad call,
- 12:09Speaker 6: but we can all live with it. Okay, as a
- 12:10Speaker 6: bang bang play. We know refs make mistakes. It's fine,
- 12:13Speaker 6: we get it. That's part of being a human. That's
- 12:15Speaker 6: part of like why we love football. It's not running
- 12:17Speaker 6: back computers. That's fine, But to take eligibility away if
- 12:22Speaker 6: the league office wants to come back that week and say,
- 12:25Speaker 6: you know what, it was targeting and it was malicious,
- 12:29Speaker 6: so you got you gotta sit out the first quarter.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Because I'm not having to make a decision in five minutes.
- 12:33Speaker 4: There's pressure, there's a there's a clock clock, there's a
- 12:36Speaker 4: TV clock, Like, hey, fans, we don't want to have
- 12:38Speaker 4: to sit here and wait for more actions. So you
- 12:41Speaker 4: got three minutes to make this decision. You're talking about
- 12:45Speaker 4: like with weeks being out of that game, right if
- 12:49Speaker 4: you know Florida DJ, like we didn't throw five intercessions,
- 12:52Speaker 4: Like that's your best player on defense, that's an All
- 12:54Speaker 4: American that you're missing for that because I got to
- 12:58Speaker 4: make a decision in three minutes of like you saying
- 13:00Speaker 4: like go back, maybe you got maybe, Hey, we're gonna
- 13:04Speaker 4: suspend you for the next game because that was egregious yep,
- 13:06Speaker 4: or wasn't yep?
- 13:07Speaker 2: Or you know you gotta pay the league office twenty
- 13:09Speaker 2: five thousand.
- 13:10Speaker 5: Well, that part's dombin itself, because like got ejected three
- 13:13Speaker 5: plays into the game, but has to miss the entire game,
- 13:16Speaker 5: DJ Chester got ejected in the fourth quarter, he only
- 13:19Speaker 5: has to miss the first half. So essentially Chester's missing
- 13:22Speaker 5: half of the game and wits missing a whole game
- 13:24Speaker 5: for the same penalty. Why can't Wit only set out
- 13:27Speaker 5: the first half and play the second. But also, Matt,
- 13:30Speaker 5: I'll eliminate sack yardage going away from your rushing.
- 13:33Speaker 6: Total eliminated, eliminating all the too many transfers.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Yep, we're eliminating notre Dame. Yep. Targeting, targeting Yeah, uh,
- 13:49Speaker 2: super chet here from Dane.
- 13:50Speaker 4: It is way past time to make officials employees of
- 13:53Speaker 4: the league and every sport and hold them accountable like
- 13:55Speaker 4: every other major employee.
- 13:57Speaker 2: True.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Uh, they should be held to the same standards as
- 14:00Speaker 4: coaches and players. I totally agree. You're making dollar dollar
- 14:03Speaker 4: bills doing what you're doing. And look it's great. Look
- 14:05Speaker 4: you mess up. We mess up. Everybody messes up. Nobody's
- 14:07Speaker 4: perfect out there. But just have to answer the question
- 14:09Speaker 4: I would do. I would respect it so much if
- 14:12Speaker 4: a referee is like, here's what I saw, Here's what
- 14:14Speaker 4: I thought. Hmm okay, and that's how I interpreted, and
- 14:17Speaker 4: I look, I messed up.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I was wrong. Oh my god, that would.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Go to be so great, Like how many NFL games
- 14:23Speaker 4: did you lose because of a bad call?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Hey, hey, tell me what you saw, Like why did
- 14:27Speaker 2: you make that call?
- 14:28Speaker 4: And you're a human being and you can give your
- 14:30Speaker 4: explanation to like what I saw, why I missed it,
- 14:32Speaker 4: and that would be so refreshing to me. Now it's
- 14:34Speaker 4: never gonna happen. They're like, well, it's it's dangerous for
- 14:36Speaker 4: the referee. What's the difference between putting them in danger
- 14:38Speaker 4: and putting us in danger? Because if I fumble a
- 14:41Speaker 4: game away, there's gonna be some pissed off Charger fans.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Yep. If you threw an interception and some pissed off
- 14:45Speaker 2: Packer fans.
- 14:46Speaker 6: And there's certain penalties out there are certain plays that
- 14:48Speaker 6: should be able to be reviewed and penalized after the fact,
- 14:53Speaker 6: Like if the league office and that Auburn Oklahoma games
- 14:57Speaker 6: should be able to call and say that was an
- 14:59Speaker 6: illegal play.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Yep.
- 15:01Speaker 6: Okay, I'm not talking about pass interference. I'm not talking
- 15:04Speaker 6: about holding, I'm not talking about targeting. I'm not talking
- 15:06Speaker 6: about things like that. But like agree, just just blatant,
- 15:09Speaker 6: like against the rules of the game.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Of focal Auburn. You can't hide a player anymore, Okay,
- 15:15Speaker 2: what a player for a touchdown?
- 15:16Speaker 6: What if the referees and this has happened before, they
- 15:19Speaker 6: don't count that there's twelve people on the field for
- 15:21Speaker 6: the defense and the defense makes a big stop. The
- 15:23Speaker 6: league office should be able to say, hey, no, no,
- 15:26Speaker 6: there was twelve on the field, y'all missed it, which
- 15:29Speaker 6: is fine, Okay, don't miss it again. Slap on the wrist, like, uh,
- 15:33Speaker 6: there was twelve against eleven and can't stand like for
- 15:38Speaker 6: that to happen. What if you're Auburn like they scored that,
- 15:41Speaker 6: we should have won the game. First of all, there's
- 15:43Speaker 6: a fumble touchdown, then there was an illegal play. Ncashauld
- 15:47Speaker 6: have to pay Auburn like a million bucks right now.
- 15:50Speaker 6: They should just hand him a million dollar. Give me something.
- 15:52Speaker 6: You can't give me the win? I get it because
- 15:54Speaker 6: you don't, can't take it away. Whatever, give me some money.
- 15:57Speaker 5: What crew was it? It was in the NBA a
- 15:59Speaker 5: couple of years to go the crew because like they decide,
- 16:02Speaker 5: got at the halfway point of the season, which crew
- 16:04Speaker 5: is gonna get to appreciate the NBA Finals. They took
- 16:08Speaker 5: it away from the crew because they had missed so
- 16:10Speaker 5: many calls and they're like, you don't get to do
- 16:11Speaker 5: the NBA Finals anymore. Like that dips into their paycheck,
- 16:14Speaker 5: like maybe.
- 16:14Speaker 6: Something they do that in the NFL too. The best
- 16:17Speaker 6: crew cruise get the Super Bowl and.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Lance red inside the by U four chat was sucks
- 16:22Speaker 4: them both went. In DJ's case, it was called. It
- 16:24Speaker 4: wasn't called on the field, the booth buzzed down for
- 16:26Speaker 4: a review. I didn't even think about that. Ye, Like
- 16:29Speaker 4: somebody saw that. I was like, oh my gosh, that's
- 16:31Speaker 4: not what we're going to. That is too tough.
- 16:34Speaker 2: And he definitely breathes like this, yeah with his mouth,
- 16:38Speaker 2: not his nose. Yeah.
- 16:39Speaker 4: And he hadn't he hadn't played a lick of football,
- 16:43Speaker 4: couldn't pop a pimple on the football field. I believe
- 16:45Speaker 4: that was too roughouse Uh, real quick, because I know
- 16:50Speaker 4: we got doctor Adeward's probably waiting in the hallway there.
- 16:53Speaker 2: We apologize.
- 16:55Speaker 4: The one thing that I would change if I was
- 16:57Speaker 4: the Commissioner of college football, everyone would have uniform scheduling.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Every league would play the same amount of conference games,
- 17:04Speaker 4: which the ACC is playing nine as well. The SEC's
- 17:06Speaker 4: moved to nine, but the Big Ten still doesn't have
- 17:09Speaker 4: the role where you've got to play a Power four
- 17:10Speaker 4: opponent outside of conference play like the SEC does.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I would have it.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Hey, you got to play nine conference games and your
- 17:17Speaker 4: tenth game has to be against at least one power
- 17:20Speaker 4: for non con opponent, and the other two games you
- 17:24Speaker 4: can play directional school you if you want to. I
- 17:26Speaker 4: would actually get rid of the FCS games. Sorry, FCS,
- 17:29Speaker 4: I love you, I appreciate you. You have hall of
- 17:31Speaker 4: famers that have played at that level. But I'm talking
- 17:33Speaker 4: about give the G six those teams that opportunity to
- 17:37Speaker 4: play against the Power four team. So nine conference one,
- 17:40Speaker 4: Power four, two G six games. Everybody in the ACC,
- 17:44Speaker 4: the Big Ten, the Big twelve, and the SEC have
- 17:47Speaker 4: to follow.
- 17:47Speaker 2: The same rules. And that would be my change, my
- 17:51Speaker 2: first change. And I'd also take away UFC's claim to
- 17:54Speaker 2: the three national championship.
- 17:56Speaker 4: There's only one crystal ball and it's in Beton Rouge, Louisiana.
- 17:59Speaker 4: Before we take the want to remind you it's always
- 18:01Speaker 4: a great time to go for dose as well. You
- 18:03Speaker 4: can go for dose this weekend in Oxford, Mississippi.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Bring the tailgate to Oxford.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Bring the real tailgate to Oxford, no chandeliers, the actual tailgate,
- 18:12Speaker 4: the way it's supposed to be done. Also, coming back
- 18:15Speaker 4: home to Baton Rouge, you got some big home games
- 18:17Speaker 4: coming up.
- 18:18Speaker 2: You got a little bye week.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Certainly enjoy one on a bye week, but you got
- 18:22Speaker 4: South Carolina coming to town, that's going to be a
- 18:23Speaker 4: great time to go for dose, because it's always a
- 18:25Speaker 4: great time to go for dose. All right, when we
- 18:28Speaker 4: come back, as we talked about, there is a major
- 18:31Speaker 4: major injury in the SEC at the quarterback position. We'll
- 18:35Speaker 4: tell you who that is and what it looks like
- 18:37Speaker 4: and how long he's going to be out with doctor
- 18:39Speaker 4: Stephen at Theridge when we come back here on OTV.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Off the Bench, you go to pelicanroof dot com. That
- 18:45Speaker 4: is a website for Repelican Roofing. And one of the
- 18:48Speaker 4: things that we always love to tell you about is
- 18:51Speaker 4: the testimonials of past clients, and you see some if
- 18:54Speaker 4: you're watching this on YouTube right there, but also just
- 18:57Speaker 4: the five star reviews. We believe in trust in Pelican Roofing.
- 19:02Speaker 4: You should as well. But this is your neighbor, This
- 19:05Speaker 4: is your friends telling you how great of a service
- 19:08Speaker 4: they had with Pelican Roofing. I'm driving around my neighborhood
- 19:12Speaker 4: the other day. Pelican Roofing flags in the neighborhood. Man,
- 19:15Speaker 4: there wasn't anything out of place, like even as they
- 19:18Speaker 4: were doing the job, everything was kept tidy, everything was
- 19:21Speaker 4: on schedule. Everything looked like it was first class because
- 19:24Speaker 4: that's the only way they do it over at Pelicanroofing.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Go to the website today, pelicanroof dot com.
- 19:30Speaker 6: Don't be a Pelicant, be a Pelican. Yeah, pelicanoofing dot com.
- 19:35Speaker 6: If you have a project, if you are building a
- 19:37Speaker 6: roof repair whatever, most trusted roofing company in Louisiana, pelicanroof
- 19:42Speaker 6: dot com.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Plugged in on LSU football twenty four to seven. You're
- 19:56Speaker 1: listening to off the Bench.
- 20:08Speaker 5: My love.
- 20:10Speaker 4: All right, all right, welcome back, yeah and OTB here
- 20:16Speaker 4: on this Wednesday morning.
- 20:17Speaker 2: It is Wednesday morning.
- 20:19Speaker 4: We're gonna call it eight fifteen and acts like we
- 20:21Speaker 4: were on time even though it's eight twenty four. Sorry,
- 20:24Speaker 4: Doctor Stephen Etherich joins us. Now, Doc, we were acting.
- 20:27Speaker 4: If we were the commissioner of college football, what we
- 20:31Speaker 4: would change. Flenn's number one was he would make Notre
- 20:35Speaker 4: Dame either get kicked out or join a conference and
- 20:37Speaker 4: love college football like that.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I went with scheduling.
- 20:39Speaker 4: I want everybody to play nine conference games, one Power
- 20:43Speaker 4: four non con game and then Group of Six and
- 20:46Speaker 4: the other two.
- 20:46Speaker 2: No more FCS games.
- 20:48Speaker 4: Sorry, we love you, but that's what I wanted, Alandra said,
- 20:51Speaker 4: transfer portal titey, what was yours?
- 20:54Speaker 5: I mean targeting, but also our takeaway satyardage counting against
- 20:58Speaker 5: your Russian tilt.
- 21:00Speaker 2: That's very dumb.
- 21:01Speaker 4: If doctor Steven Ethridge was the commissioner of college football,
- 21:06Speaker 4: the first thing that you're doing, yeah, I kind of you.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Play college football, you know, I mean say.
- 21:12Speaker 9: I like, I like everyone's uh, you know, it's funny though.
- 21:15Speaker 9: The one that we talked about this past or maybe
- 21:17Speaker 9: two weeknds ago is the targeting one. I feel like
- 21:19Speaker 9: you got to remove it or at least get the
- 21:20Speaker 9: suspension or throw them out of a game, you know,
- 21:22Speaker 9: maybe nade the penalty.
- 21:23Speaker 2: I'm fine with that flagrant or two.
- 21:24Speaker 10: Yeah, basketball, that's I like that idea.
- 21:27Speaker 9: But uh but I also just I want to get
- 21:29Speaker 9: rid of the the little games as well. That for me,
- 21:32Speaker 9: it just that's probably my most passionate drives me crazy,
- 21:35Speaker 9: you know, and especially when we see injuries, and that's
- 21:36Speaker 9: you know, obviously personal to me. And I hate your games.
- 21:39Speaker 9: When you you're playing. I don't want to throw any
- 21:40Speaker 9: specific schools out.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Say directional school US that's what we call when.
- 21:43Speaker 9: We're playing the directional schools, and and you get a
- 21:45Speaker 9: guy that gets hurt, and it's just it hurts that
- 21:47Speaker 9: much more when that that happens. So I guess that's
- 21:50Speaker 9: when I'm But the targeting one is is also near
- 21:52Speaker 9: and dear, because every time I watch those, I'm like, oh, yeah,
- 21:54Speaker 9: that's definitely targeting, not I mean, whatever I think it
- 21:57Speaker 9: is is.
- 21:57Speaker 10: I know it's gonna be opposite, no.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Doubt, per same way.
- 22:00Speaker 10: And I'm bat in zero.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I am yes, absolutely, I would not be in the
- 22:04Speaker 2: Hall of Fame either. I am not three for ten.
- 22:06Speaker 2: I am zero for ten.
- 22:08Speaker 4: All right, there is a big injury in the SEC
- 22:11Speaker 4: the Heisman front runner John Mattier. It broke yesterday that
- 22:14Speaker 4: he is going to have thumb surgery. And I believe
- 22:17Speaker 4: the timetable that I saw and this was reacting as
- 22:20Speaker 4: soon as it happened, like three to five weeks, so doc,
- 22:24Speaker 4: and it's always throwing hand. By the way, how can
- 22:27Speaker 4: you have surgery on your throwing hand on your thumb
- 22:29Speaker 4: feels pretty important and only be out three to five weeks.
- 22:32Speaker 9: There's there's a lot of injuries, and again we don't
- 22:34Speaker 9: know exactly what this one is. They were they were
- 22:36Speaker 9: you're not really voked with what it is, which we'd
- 22:38Speaker 9: be the same. So I'm not saying anything negative there.
- 22:40Speaker 9: But you know, one one that I think that we
- 22:42Speaker 9: all know about if you go back to I believe
- 22:44Speaker 9: it was the either eighteen or nineteen year when Drew
- 22:46Speaker 9: Brees had his he had a ligament injury in his thumb.
- 22:48Speaker 2: He had the US.
- 22:49Speaker 9: Yeah, so that's what's called a gamekeeper thumb or sometimes
- 22:53Speaker 9: called a skiers thumb. But there's a ligament on the
- 22:55Speaker 9: sort of on the inside of the thumb to keep
- 22:57Speaker 9: your thumb from pulling out right. And the funny thing was,
- 22:59Speaker 9: I remember watching that game and they had that aerial
- 23:01Speaker 9: shot and I saw them doing the exam and probably
- 23:02Speaker 9: something they didn't want us to see, but when they
- 23:04Speaker 9: did that exam, I saw his thumb kind of open up.
- 23:06Speaker 10: I'm like, oh, he's he's out, you know what, no doubt,
- 23:09Speaker 10: and he came back. I think it was five weeks.
- 23:11Speaker 9: You know, if there's more more modern techniques where you
- 23:13Speaker 9: can do an internal brace, so maybe he had the
- 23:14Speaker 9: same injury. You know another thing, you know, with a
- 23:18Speaker 9: broken bone in the hand, uh, if once you start
- 23:21Speaker 9: getting new bone growing on it, a lot of times
- 23:23Speaker 9: we'll go in there, we'll put a little plate, you know,
- 23:24Speaker 9: so you have the bone that's the base of the thumb.
- 23:27Speaker 9: The metacarpool is one that breaks a lot. Sometimes you're
- 23:29Speaker 9: gonna put a plate on it. And as soon as
- 23:30Speaker 9: we see new bone growing, which is usually around that
- 23:32Speaker 9: four to six week range, So so maybe.
- 23:35Speaker 10: They're doing something like that, you know. And and again it's.
- 23:37Speaker 9: It's obviously position specific. It's as a quarterback, you know.
- 23:40Speaker 9: I think I think that's the best case scenario is
- 23:42Speaker 9: three to five weeks. You know, he's got a grip
- 23:44Speaker 9: and throw, and if it was the other hand, to
- 23:45Speaker 9: your point, or if he was a lineman or a
- 23:47Speaker 9: defensive lineman, we could club him up and he can
- 23:48Speaker 9: play this week.
- 23:49Speaker 10: So there's there's a lot of relativity to that.
- 23:51Speaker 9: But if I had to guess, I'd say one of
- 23:53Speaker 9: those two, you know, something they could they could get
- 23:56Speaker 9: a little little plate on there and heel or maybe
- 23:58Speaker 9: they fixed that ligament and do an internal brace would
- 24:00Speaker 9: maybe gives a lectra support to it.
- 24:01Speaker 4: But how how do you throw a ball? Matt Like,
- 24:04Speaker 4: I don't know how important the thumb is. I know
- 24:06Speaker 4: the index finger is important to a quarterback. But I
- 24:08Speaker 4: feel like the thumb, I'd say it's important, separates us
- 24:10Speaker 4: from the animals. Jake, for sure.
- 24:16Speaker 6: So I want to know about So when you're talking
- 24:18Speaker 6: about surgery on your hand, and so I know we've
- 24:21Speaker 6: talked about turf toe and surging on our feet, but
- 24:24Speaker 6: to me, the hand is like a completely different animal
- 24:27Speaker 6: because it control like it's everyday life, especially your thumbs.
- 24:32Speaker 6: Like there's so many bones, there's so many ligaments. A
- 24:34Speaker 6: lot can probably go wrong with that. Like you if
- 24:37Speaker 6: your foot heels up and it's still a little bit
- 24:39Speaker 6: stiff the rest of your life, okay, fine, but like
- 24:41Speaker 6: your hand, fine motor skills, your day to day just
- 24:43Speaker 6: every day living. I would assume that, like it's a
- 24:46Speaker 6: hand specialist that is dealing with that and it's something
- 24:49Speaker 6: that you probably got to be carefully. Do not rush
- 24:52Speaker 6: this back because you're talking about, like I'm being able
- 24:55Speaker 6: to use your thumb as well for the rest of
- 24:56Speaker 6: your life.
- 24:57Speaker 9: Yeah, hand is one of those areas that that, to
- 25:00Speaker 9: be honest, it should scare you a little bit if
- 25:03Speaker 9: you're not an expert.
- 25:04Speaker 10: You know, I see a hand injury.
- 25:06Speaker 9: There's certain injuries where I'm a little bit more aggressive,
- 25:10Speaker 9: you know, if I'm treating it a little bit more
- 25:12Speaker 9: comfortable doing it. Like even somebody comes into the emergency
- 25:14Speaker 9: room if they've got like an abscess, so you know,
- 25:16Speaker 9: a boil and infection in their hand, even something like that,
- 25:18Speaker 9: where maybe if it was on your leg, I would
- 25:20Speaker 9: just you know, lance it for you. But if it's
- 25:21Speaker 9: somewhere in the hand, a lot of times I'm gonna
- 25:23Speaker 9: call the hand surgeons because you got so much packed
- 25:25Speaker 9: into that small place. Like you said, you have the
- 25:27Speaker 9: fine motor skills and and one wrong move, you know
- 25:29Speaker 9: you can if you cut a nerve, you cut a
- 25:30Speaker 9: ligament attendant, something that's really vital. You know, man, that
- 25:33Speaker 9: could be catastrophic to It's not just your ability play football,
- 25:36Speaker 9: but to your point, you know, just writing, grasping, gripping,
- 25:38Speaker 9: doing your normal day to day stuff. So you know,
- 25:40Speaker 9: it's it's something where you really need somebody good. You know,
- 25:43Speaker 9: we're very fortunate here. You know, our partners that I
- 25:46Speaker 9: work with, We got a couple of guys with hands
- 25:47Speaker 9: that are just I mean, there's some bosses. I mean
- 25:48Speaker 9: they're fantastic guys, and but I'm sure you know, I
- 25:52Speaker 9: think I read with with tier. I think he's going
- 25:55Speaker 9: out to the guy in California. I think it was
- 25:56Speaker 9: the same guy that actually did Drew Breeze as surgery.
- 25:58Speaker 9: I'm not mistaken. So you know there's guys that you
- 26:02Speaker 9: want to see the right people if it's a hand
- 26:03Speaker 9: for sure. Yeah, how toime is that?
- 26:05Speaker 2: Like?
- 26:05Speaker 4: So if let's just say, like you go see a
- 26:08Speaker 4: specialist or whatever, like, what's the communication like between the
- 26:11Speaker 4: team doctor and that specialist.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Because a specialist, he saw it, he was there, he
- 26:15Speaker 2: was inside.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Is the team doctor getting all the photos, all the
- 26:19Speaker 4: surgery notes and everything you're going over that with the specialists?
- 26:22Speaker 2: Yes?
- 26:23Speaker 10: Yeah, in a perfect world, yes, I should say that.
- 26:26Speaker 9: What we've learned is there are certain people that are
- 26:29Speaker 9: better at that than others, not just the surgical side,
- 26:31Speaker 9: but and ideally for us, you know, if we're working
- 26:33Speaker 9: with the team, you know, we're fortunate that we have
- 26:36Speaker 9: really good people here.
- 26:37Speaker 10: We're able to do most of the surgeries here in house.
- 26:38Speaker 9: But you know, for a lot of reasons, you know
- 26:40Speaker 9: today's A and AIDS, there's some agent pressure. Sometimes sometimes
- 26:43Speaker 9: people just want to go back home maybe where they're from.
- 26:45Speaker 9: There's times where we see those scenarios we get some
- 26:48Speaker 9: of the guys when they go to the league that
- 26:50Speaker 9: want to come back here and have surge with our guys,
- 26:52Speaker 9: you know, so it's what you're comfortable with. So but
- 26:56Speaker 9: in a perfect world, yeah, we want to have great
- 26:57Speaker 9: communication with those guys and most of them do. Especial
- 27:00Speaker 9: the guys that are working with athletes on a regular basis,
- 27:02Speaker 9: they understand the importance because for one, you know, you
- 27:05Speaker 9: want your guy to do well, but they also care
- 27:06Speaker 9: about their reputation. And if if you get a hand
- 27:09Speaker 9: surgery and then you come back here, and if if
- 27:11Speaker 9: we don't know what's going on, and if maybe we're
- 27:12Speaker 9: not doing a good job with the rehab or we
- 27:14Speaker 9: don't know what you did and we're not communicating, well,
- 27:16Speaker 9: it doesn't just look bad on us, you know.
- 27:18Speaker 2: So.
- 27:18Speaker 9: So and obviously our first concern is if we want
- 27:20Speaker 9: the guys to do well. And I think that's most
- 27:22Speaker 9: of us. But these guys, especially these elite guys around
- 27:25Speaker 9: the country, they're they're most of them pretty good about communication.
- 27:29Speaker 2: So I just this is like a hand anatomy question.
- 27:32Speaker 6: It's like I would think you would want that hand
- 27:35Speaker 6: specialist that's dealing with hands every single day because like
- 27:38Speaker 6: there's so much stuff happening in there, so many ligaments,
- 27:41Speaker 6: so many veins, so many all this attendance. It's like
- 27:44Speaker 6: it's like a nineties action movie. Like if you don't
- 27:46Speaker 6: have like a guy that's a specialist, it's like, all right,
- 27:47Speaker 6: which wire do I cut? Here?
- 27:49Speaker 2: Is it? The red, the blue, the green, the yellow wire?
- 27:51Speaker 2: What is it?
- 27:51Speaker 6: Because like when I had elbow tenonitis, like I learned
- 27:54Speaker 6: a lot about the forearm, Like I learned that an
- 27:56Speaker 6: old nerve on mine might not go in the same
- 28:00Speaker 6: might not say, have the same anatomy as yours. It
- 28:02Speaker 6: might go under this muddle muscle and the other person
- 28:05Speaker 6: might go above it or to the side of it.
- 28:06Speaker 6: So I would assume that's the same. Like when you
- 28:08Speaker 6: open up somebody's hand, it's like, all right, this is
- 28:10Speaker 6: the nerve here. It's usually by this bone, but for
- 28:13Speaker 6: this guy, it's on a different bone. So like you're
- 28:15Speaker 6: looking at just.
- 28:16Speaker 9: Yeah, you want you want somebody, Like if you're cutting
- 28:19Speaker 9: on my hand, I want somebody who.
- 28:20Speaker 10: Has done it. That's all they're doing to your point.
- 28:23Speaker 9: And and you know, one thing I tell my pace
- 28:24Speaker 9: is a lot is look, you know, the human body
- 28:26Speaker 9: doesn't usually read the anatomy textbooks. So even though we
- 28:29Speaker 9: think we know what things should look like, and look,
- 28:31Speaker 9: we do we do this stuff, but I see weird
- 28:34Speaker 9: stuff every day. And that's one thing I tell my
- 28:35Speaker 9: pace all the time, is like, look, we know this
- 28:37Speaker 9: is what we're pretty sure of, but everybody's a little different.
- 28:39Speaker 9: Your anatomy probably is a little different.
- 28:40Speaker 2: You know.
- 28:41Speaker 9: We we can probably go into that as deep as
- 28:42Speaker 9: you want, but as his brain, yeah that's true. But
- 28:46Speaker 9: the reality of it, yeah, we're all a little bit different,
- 28:48Speaker 9: and there's a lot of a lot of variations. So
- 28:50Speaker 9: having somebody that that not only does it all the time,
- 28:52Speaker 9: but who's probably seen those variations over and over and
- 28:54Speaker 9: over again, and somebody who really takes takes pride in
- 28:57Speaker 9: their craft, that's where you want to go. And Saiunfortunately,
- 29:01Speaker 9: you know, we've got a lot of good guys here,
- 29:02Speaker 9: like I love. I mean, I never worry about hand
- 29:05Speaker 9: injuries in my clinic because we got some studs. But
- 29:08Speaker 9: but it makes a difference, you know, it really makes
- 29:11Speaker 9: my job easier when I have those people out there.
- 29:12Speaker 2: With t Bob's hands been big enough to operate on.
- 29:16Speaker 10: That would have been difficult. It would have been difficult.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Thought.
- 29:19Speaker 10: It's definitely a specialist for that.
- 29:21Speaker 2: But the monocle was like flip down, just keep keep.
- 29:28Speaker 4: One one that I wanted to ask you about. All right,
- 29:32Speaker 4: So we see an ankle, okay, And when I was young,
- 29:36Speaker 4: I just thought an ankle was an ankle and if
- 29:38Speaker 4: your sprained dr ankle, your sprained your ankle. Now it's
- 29:41Speaker 4: like we always get into the high mid low. What's
- 29:44Speaker 4: the difference in return? Like, because how it feels like
- 29:48Speaker 4: obviously the worst. We hear that all the time. What's
- 29:50Speaker 4: the other two though? Like if you got you know,
- 29:54Speaker 4: I don't even know what like you would call it?
- 29:55Speaker 4: What is the term you would use for other ankle injury? Right,
- 29:58Speaker 4: So I toil We break them down.
- 29:59Speaker 9: Here have high, you have medial, you have lateral, so
- 30:02Speaker 9: media on the inside later on the outside, and you'll
- 30:04Speaker 9: hear some slight different variations the way people break them down.
- 30:06Speaker 9: But that's typically the way that I like to look
- 30:07Speaker 9: at it. It's it still comes back to severity.
- 30:11Speaker 2: First.
- 30:12Speaker 9: You know, a very mild high ankle, even though we
- 30:14Speaker 9: don't like high ankles, probably gets back quicker than say
- 30:17Speaker 9: a severe lateral. So we've got to kind of understand
- 30:19Speaker 9: that there is that. But on the average, high ankles
- 30:22Speaker 9: are the long ones, and it is it is it
- 30:24Speaker 9: a grade one and grade two of grade three. I
- 30:26Speaker 9: think you know, we've talked about some of that grade ones.
- 30:28Speaker 9: You know, we can get those back sometimes in a
- 30:30Speaker 9: week if it's the lower end, you know, milder version
- 30:33Speaker 9: even of a high ankle. Now again that's best case scenario.
- 30:36Speaker 9: Really good job where reh having it. They do a
- 30:37Speaker 9: really good job of getting the inflammation out of it
- 30:40Speaker 9: throughout the week. We've had some of those come back,
- 30:43Speaker 9: you know, in recent examples, whereas they can.
- 30:45Speaker 10: They can be four weeks, six weeks, eight weeks.
- 30:48Speaker 9: Most of your your typical lateral angle, that's the most
- 30:51Speaker 9: common angle.
- 30:52Speaker 10: That's when you kind of roll it and spraying the outside.
- 30:54Speaker 2: It swells up. When you're really swells up.
- 30:56Speaker 10: It's not a real bad one.
- 30:57Speaker 9: Those are guys you can use to get a good
- 30:58Speaker 9: brace on them. You can tape them up pretty good
- 31:00Speaker 9: and most of the times get those guys back the
- 31:02Speaker 9: next week. I mean, again, there's not a lot of
- 31:04Speaker 9: structural damage associated with it.
- 31:05Speaker 10: Beyond that.
- 31:06Speaker 9: The medial side is sort of the in between. Sometimes
- 31:09Speaker 9: those can be a bear. It just depends they're a
- 31:11Speaker 9: little bit more unpredictable, at least in my experience.
- 31:13Speaker 10: But so it can be all over the map.
- 31:15Speaker 6: Though, Doc Class one here, I know you're more focused
- 31:19Speaker 6: on the football side of things and not the baseball
- 31:22Speaker 6: side of things. But last night David Fry for the
- 31:24Speaker 6: Cleveland Guardians took a ninety nine mile per hour fastball
- 31:27Speaker 6: to the face cart it off the field hospital. So
- 31:31Speaker 6: when you're dealing with something like that trauma to the face,
- 31:34Speaker 6: I assume that of course you're going to see if
- 31:35Speaker 6: like everything's working properly with the significant of the damages.
- 31:38Speaker 6: But like it was a doctor, an orthopedic doctor, whatever
- 31:42Speaker 6: it is, they work like with hand in hand with
- 31:46Speaker 6: face doctors, plastic surgeons, Like how does that hold?
- 31:49Speaker 2: Like what is the face trauma?
- 31:51Speaker 9: What's a fast so well, I think you hit the
- 31:54Speaker 9: nail on that. The first the first step we got
- 31:55Speaker 9: to make sure that there's not an immediate, you know,
- 31:59Speaker 9: serious and they have a globe injury to the eyes.
- 32:01Speaker 9: This something where we need to get emergency optalmology involved,
- 32:04Speaker 9: or we worried about vision, could they go blind? Things
- 32:07Speaker 9: like that, If it's something to the jaw and neck area.
- 32:09Speaker 10: Do we have to work out an airway?
- 32:11Speaker 9: Is this something where they might you know, if they're
- 32:12Speaker 9: having a lot of bleeding and going down the throat,
- 32:14Speaker 9: could they.
- 32:14Speaker 10: Just fixiate on that.
- 32:16Speaker 9: So obviously there are life threatening injuries that occur with
- 32:18Speaker 9: even something like a baseball to face, especially if it's
- 32:20Speaker 9: coming ninety something.
- 32:21Speaker 10: Miles an hour.
- 32:23Speaker 9: But assuming we get past that, then then yes, we're
- 32:26Speaker 9: looking at you know, we're working with our oral facial guys.
- 32:29Speaker 9: We're working with with with optalmologists if necessary. Sometimes, yeah,
- 32:34Speaker 9: we do get the plastics guys involved, especially for the
- 32:36Speaker 9: long term because you know, obviously we're our first concern
- 32:38Speaker 9: is functionality, healing, recovery. But but some of the plastic
- 32:41Speaker 9: guys do really good work. You know, we're lucky, you know,
- 32:44Speaker 9: in the sports medicine side, we have we have a
- 32:46Speaker 9: really good relationship with our community here. We've had a
- 32:49Speaker 9: few face injuries. We've got a couple of really good
- 32:51Speaker 9: surgeons over at the Lake that we've used that do
- 32:53Speaker 9: a fantastic job. And literally they know and when they
- 32:55Speaker 9: get a call from one of us, they're going to
- 32:56Speaker 9: answer it pretty quick, Yeah, pretty much right away. And
- 32:58Speaker 9: and so the nice thing is we're able to get
- 33:00Speaker 9: that information quickly, get to get the athletes fixed, if
- 33:02Speaker 9: that's what the case is. And and sometimes it's surgical
- 33:06Speaker 9: as well. Sometimes those things are are just as important,
- 33:09Speaker 9: you know, and it affect you long life term, long term.
- 33:12Speaker 4: And y'all just like put yourself in that position. Yeah,
- 33:15Speaker 4: I mean our fastball to the good Lord.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Hope. Hopefully David Fry is okay.
- 33:20Speaker 4: Former Northwestern State demon uh so has tats here to Louisiana.
- 33:24Speaker 4: Remember watching him play really really good college player. Made
- 33:26Speaker 4: the All Star team in twenty twenty four for the
- 33:28Speaker 4: Guardians as well. So hopefully he's okay. Doc, We appreciate it.
- 33:33Speaker 4: Looking forward to seeing you in Tupelo, Mississippi.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Let's go. You're over the weekend.

- 36:16Speaker 2: see me coming. This was on m P three's.
- 36:22Speaker 6: Remember when you figured out that you could make it
- 36:25Speaker 6: an MP three file. You could go from burning ten
- 36:28Speaker 6: to twelve songs per CD depending on the link, So
- 36:31Speaker 6: you burn in about one hundred YEP to one twenty
- 36:34Speaker 6: MP three's.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Oh that was a big day. A little stack.
- 36:39Speaker 6: Go to best Buy, I get that circle stack of
- 36:42Speaker 6: like one hundred CDs.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Flank.
- 36:47Speaker 6: Then that one person in your in your grade that
- 36:52Speaker 6: had the proper file in their computer and the proper
- 36:56Speaker 6: stickers they would print out designed labels for the top
- 37:00Speaker 6: CD customize.
- 37:01Speaker 2: It at Treeport evangel It was big to have.
- 37:03Speaker 4: Like I think the girls would have different color sharpies
- 37:07Speaker 4: and they would like, you know, drawl they come up
- 37:09Speaker 4: with like.
- 37:09Speaker 7: Some good art I mean, and like label it like
- 37:12Speaker 7: you would come up with like a name for this.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Yes, And is.
- 37:17Speaker 6: There anybody on earth better at drawing block letters or
- 37:21Speaker 6: bubble letters than thirteen to sixteen year old girl.
- 37:25Speaker 8: No, God, I remember blot They.
- 37:30Speaker 6: Would write these letters to each other and they would
- 37:32Speaker 6: spend what seemed like two and a half days.
- 37:35Speaker 2: I'm just writing the person's name. Yeah. Bubble letters were
- 37:38Speaker 2: big when I was in like middle school. I mean
- 37:40Speaker 2: the art, the artistry.
- 37:43Speaker 8: Sometimes when I doodle, I still do the bubble letters.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Sure.
- 37:46Speaker 7: Like if I'm in a meeting and I have like
- 37:47Speaker 7: a notebook and I'm bored and listening or whatever, like
- 37:50Speaker 7: I start bubble lettering my name.
- 37:52Speaker 4: I yeah, if I if I got a notebook in
- 37:55Speaker 4: front of me, and you'll, like, by the end of it,
- 37:57Speaker 4: you'll see it on like my live sheet.
- 37:58Speaker 2: I'm just doodling my out.
- 38:00Speaker 4: My go tos are always I draw the Adidas logo
- 38:03Speaker 4: and the Nike check.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know why.
- 38:07Speaker 4: Like to this day, I'll throw one of those s's
- 38:10Speaker 4: from Mary.
- 38:12Speaker 2: I'll throw one of those. I'll draw one of those.
- 38:16Speaker 6: Hey, hey, son, do you want to see how I
- 38:18Speaker 6: can turn six lines into a work of art?
- 38:22Speaker 2: Watch this. I used to put that as the S
- 38:25Speaker 2: in my last name. I'm like teach hated it. Wow,
- 38:31Speaker 2: It's like it's not even an you can't put that
- 38:33Speaker 2: as your name.
- 38:34Speaker 3: An she's wrong, she's wrong.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Yeah, your teacher, guys, what do you want? I just
- 38:43Speaker 2: still don't get it.
- 38:44Speaker 6: How are teenage girls so good at doing block letters?
- 38:49Speaker 6: It's a talent because I used to try to do
- 38:50Speaker 6: it too, but I would do it like ten and
- 38:52Speaker 6: it just.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Doesn't make it. Three D show.
- 38:57Speaker 7: Shadow shadow it yeah mm hmm.
- 39:01Speaker 6: The shadows was a little bit above my pay grade.
- 39:03Speaker 6: Oh no, but I could three D the absolute hell
- 39:07Speaker 6: out of a block letter.
- 39:08Speaker 8: Say that?
- 39:09Speaker 2: Or I can try three D to f the capital
- 39:12Speaker 2: F wow that yes?
- 39:15Speaker 8: Or like the O is my favorite? You know it was.
- 39:18Speaker 8: I could make the heck out of a cube like
- 39:22Speaker 8: I could.
- 39:23Speaker 6: Yeah, do you go when it gets behind the initial
- 39:26Speaker 6: the first the front side?
- 39:27Speaker 2: Do you go dotted line? No? Okay, I like that though.
- 39:31Speaker 8: Respect No, I just go straight, just straight line.
- 39:34Speaker 4: This feels like something only the Hesters did. Because me
- 39:36Speaker 4: and my older brother like obsessed with sports. We used
- 39:39Speaker 4: like doodling. We should draw basketball uniforms like we would
- 39:43Speaker 4: draw like the tanks with the shorts, like the whole
- 39:47Speaker 4: combo North Carolina, the argyle down the side and that.
- 39:50Speaker 6: Was somebody just made me left so in the chat,
- 39:54Speaker 6: don't forget about the doodle tornadoes?
- 39:57Speaker 2: Y'all ever do tornadoes? No?
- 40:00Speaker 6: Yeah, it's like you just drop a bunch of circles,
- 40:02Speaker 6: you get a deep then you get real.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah. Used to pop during science class?
- 40:10Speaker 2: Oh hey, why did OTB have one brain cell?
- 40:15Speaker 4: We were drawing the didas logos in class, and tornadoes.
- 40:19Speaker 2: We're talking about the things. Shadow letters there to talk
- 40:21Speaker 2: about shut three d in the hell out of it.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Nobody letter right.
- 40:27Speaker 7: Nobody was talking about the stone skimming until we brought
- 40:29Speaker 7: it up on this show, and then you see it
- 40:31Speaker 7: on Pat McAfee The.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Next Daybay Aj Hawky.
- 40:35Speaker 8: Friday, Pat McAfee show is going to be talking about doodling.
- 40:38Speaker 4: Doodle tornadoes will be talked about because AJ has got
- 40:42Speaker 4: some kind of listening device. You're in the studio. Yeah,
- 40:48Speaker 4: and now I'm going to lose Flynn for the rest
- 40:49Speaker 4: of the show because this man is dude.
- 40:52Speaker 8: Doodling right now.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Over there they Oh yeah, I got it. The white
- 40:57Speaker 2: bounce in here is real bad. It's so bad, very bad.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Well done. That's actually really good. So I just did that.
- 41:03Speaker 6: Get so many seconds that I got to connect the
- 41:05Speaker 6: side here, got somebody seconds that took me, yeah, about four,
- 41:11Speaker 6: well done.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Nice.
- 41:12Speaker 6: Well just think of this picture Taylor in middle school
- 41:15Speaker 6: high school. No, it's his s doing his final exam,
- 41:20Speaker 6: Taylor sharp with this.
- 41:21Speaker 8: As the S the final exam on his SA T.
- 41:26Speaker 2: That's why I scored, so that belonged to yes. All right,
- 41:30Speaker 2: we'll take a break a little.

- 43:26Speaker 3: I ain't never but now you're.
- 43:28Speaker 7: Getting to the boy and almost danger gingo boy, you're
- 43:31Speaker 7: slowly making me play for money should be handling, and.
- 43:36Speaker 2: Now you've got to use my car. All right, welcome
- 43:40Speaker 2: back here in OGB.
- 43:41Speaker 4: We'll push would you rather Wednesday to the nine o'clock
- 43:44Speaker 4: hour because I do actually want to ask Flann about
- 43:47Speaker 4: the John Mattiere injury. He was the leader in the
- 43:50Speaker 4: clubhouse for the Heisman Trophy, and he had played really well,
- 43:54Speaker 4: had a couple of big victories against Michigan, against Auburn,
- 43:57Speaker 4: and he is now going to be out three to
- 43:59Speaker 4: five weeks having surgery on his thumb. So not just
- 44:02Speaker 4: resting it and going through rehab, having surgery and having
- 44:05Speaker 4: to come back. I've never thrown a football in a game.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Jim Bo was sleeping on my skills. I don't know
- 44:12Speaker 4: what that's like. I can't imagine wearing any kind of
- 44:14Speaker 4: a brace on your thumb is fun. How much does
- 44:17Speaker 4: that change the out look for Oklahoma?
- 44:20Speaker 6: It's I don't think you can overstate the impact that
- 44:24Speaker 6: it's going to have on I don't think they're a
- 44:26Speaker 6: complete enough team to lose one of the more dynamic
- 44:32Speaker 6: quarterbacks in the country and still be in this race. Now,
- 44:38Speaker 6: are they still good? They got a good defense, they
- 44:40Speaker 6: do they're offense, they're just not the I mean, they're
- 44:43Speaker 6: just not dynamic. I don't think from top to bottom
- 44:45Speaker 6: on their offense, they have the skill set, the overall depth,
- 44:49Speaker 6: and John Entier did a lot, but he didn't have
- 44:52Speaker 6: his best game this past week, and they didn't do
- 44:55Speaker 6: much on offense. Right, they had to rely on a
- 44:58Speaker 6: illegal play to get some of their points. So look,
- 45:02Speaker 6: they throw back up in there unless he's.
- 45:04Speaker 4: He's got some experience. He's had to play here and there.
- 45:07Speaker 4: He replaced Jackson Norna for a little bit a year ago,
- 45:11Speaker 4: so it's not a completely new guy. But look, John
- 45:13Speaker 4: Metier was leading the Heisman Trophy conversation.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's not that.
- 45:16Speaker 6: So I would say, playing pretty decent up to that point,
- 45:19Speaker 6: and he didn't play good. I didn't play great this
- 45:21Speaker 6: past weekend.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Maybe it was right. Maybe it's a hand situation. You
- 45:25Speaker 2: do so real quick.
- 45:26Speaker 4: You have bye week Kent State, so it's good for
- 45:29Speaker 4: your scheduling, But then you got to go to Dallas
- 45:31Speaker 4: and play Texas, and you've got at South Carolina in
- 45:35Speaker 4: that stretch. So not an easy stretch at the back
