- 0:08Speaker 2: The World's of Vigeon podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:18Speaker 4: It's France and Brazil. Brazil the Patriots home markets. I
- 0:23Speaker 4: assume that we're going to root for Brazil tonight.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, no, no.
- 0:30Speaker 5: I kind of like the guys on France better.
- 0:32Speaker 4: So when we when we had writing, you know, we
- 0:34Speaker 4: did it in pencil back then, and you have the
- 0:36Speaker 4: yellow paper with the line.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Since I'm a lefty, I'd get led.
- 0:43Speaker 5: For you guys like you with your left hand, like
- 0:46Speaker 5: like you're always bumping people on the table.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Because it's not an idiot.
- 0:49Speaker 6: It's an inordinate amount of time thinking about quicksand like
- 0:53Speaker 6: what do I do?
- 0:53Speaker 2: You know, I don't just it. It was on my mind,
- 0:55Speaker 2: like quick, it's a it's a tough way to go.
- 0:57Speaker 5: Where are you going to find?
- 0:59Speaker 7: Oh point?
- 0:59Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:00Speaker 5: I was like sometimes when I was a kid, I
- 1:02Speaker 5: can't worried somebody's gonna break into our house.
- 1:04Speaker 4: As a kid, though, Evan, didn't you fantasize about NFL
- 1:07Speaker 4: films breaking into your house and getting out of.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Analytics.
- 1:12Speaker 8: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for
- 1:17Speaker 8: deals by a Toyota dot com.
- 1:21Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:25Speaker 2: at Jilette Stadium, rainy day here in Foxborough.
- 1:29Speaker 4: It's Paul, it's Deuce, it's me. Evan will be by
- 1:32Speaker 4: in a bit. So we're talking. I don't know whatever
- 1:37Speaker 4: it is NFL Owners meetings, and Rabel talked this morning.
- 1:41Speaker 4: He spoke to us yesterday. Actually you saw that on
- 1:44Speaker 4: social media.
- 1:45Speaker 2: So we've got some things to talk about, and you know,
- 1:47Speaker 2: whatever else is on our mind. I know, Paul, you
- 1:50Speaker 2: were on the morning radio this morning.
- 1:52Speaker 9: Yeah, and I even I was able to get out
- 1:55Speaker 9: of bed this morning. Yeah, you know after that beat
- 1:58Speaker 9: down what I didn't get to hear it.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Uh No, they were.
- 2:04Speaker 9: They saw the interview that the three of us did
- 2:07Speaker 9: with Mike, and they thought, you know, might I wasn't
- 2:09Speaker 9: going to go into the studio.
- 2:10Speaker 3: That wasn't the plan. That was kind of traffic related.
- 2:13Speaker 9: Yeah, this morning, and I was like, listen, I'm not
- 2:15Speaker 9: going to be able to make it in time to
- 2:17Speaker 9: do this zoom.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Why don't I just stop on my way and I'll
- 2:21Speaker 3: just come in the studio. That's why I did it
- 2:22Speaker 3: that way.
- 2:23Speaker 9: But you know, they they had some fun with you know,
- 2:25Speaker 9: Mike sort of tell them, well, if you if you
- 2:28Speaker 9: let me talk Paul.
- 2:29Speaker 3: You know, I stopped talking, you know, that kind of stuff.
- 2:32Speaker 9: But they they would curious about the uh, the interaction
- 2:37Speaker 9: about Max.
- 2:39Speaker 3: I'm just gonna stick with Max, and you.
- 2:42Speaker 9: Know what Vrabel's reaction to that was, and you know,
- 2:45Speaker 9: just I think they would kind of give it.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Us a little flowers just for the fact that we
- 2:49Speaker 3: had it.
- 2:50Speaker 9: Really, you know, I think it was it was stemming from,
- 2:53Speaker 9: you know, my interaction with him, right, But they thought
- 2:57Speaker 9: it would be a good, you know, good opportunity to
- 2:59Speaker 9: sort of talk about the whole thing.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, So did you did you represent well?
- 3:04Speaker 9: I mean I hope so. But always, I always that's
- 3:06Speaker 9: always my goal, friend. I don't want to represent poorly
- 3:08Speaker 9: on the organization or myself.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Well, sometimes you come out of something like that, you say,
- 3:12Speaker 4: I wish I had said this, right, I wish I
- 3:14Speaker 4: had said that.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 9: Often, yeah, especially when you say dumb things. I was like,
- 3:18Speaker 9: I can't believe I let you get away with that.
- 3:21Speaker 2: You had to say it, I did. It was Hardy.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Hardy was there, right, yeah? Did he? Was he part
- 3:25Speaker 2: of it or he let Fred?
- 3:27Speaker 5: I mean Fred.
- 3:28Speaker 3: You know, it does a lot of the talking about Hardy.
- 3:30Speaker 9: Hardy chimed into you know, Hardy's point about the whole
- 3:34Speaker 9: thing with Rabel and his physical interaction with players is like,
- 3:37Speaker 9: that's great.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Now, he's still in great shape.
- 3:40Speaker 9: But you know, if he's a coach in ten years,
- 3:42Speaker 9: he's still going to be like putting on pads and
- 3:45Speaker 9: scrapping with guys.
- 3:46Speaker 3: And he's fifty. Yeah, he's a man, he's fifty.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Uh So there was that, and you know we did
- 3:54Speaker 4: hear from Vrabel this morning, you know, nothing nothing, no,
- 4:00Speaker 4: you know, revealing.
- 4:01Speaker 6: No rapid fire, a lot of different things just reading.
- 4:05Speaker 6: I caught most of the second half of it, but
- 4:07Speaker 6: I'm talking a little about replacing digs and you know,
- 4:10Speaker 6: feeling good about some of those guys, hoping that they
- 4:12Speaker 6: progress in that receiver room.
- 4:14Speaker 9: So so I did think his answer about replacing digs
- 4:16Speaker 9: I thought was really interesting. And the efficiency, Yeah, He's
- 4:20Speaker 9: what's going to be hard is the replacing the efficiency.
- 4:23Speaker 9: You know, we can just like give somebody targets, but
- 4:28Speaker 9: you know that that was I think uncommon with how
- 4:31Speaker 9: efficient they were throwing the ball to dig.
- 4:33Speaker 10: Doesn't did you say that last year?
- 4:34Speaker 6: I feel like last year coming in he talked about
- 4:36Speaker 6: efficiency in the passing game was something that he.
- 4:39Speaker 2: You know, talked about the same thing in the running game. Yeah,
- 4:42Speaker 2: you talked about that this morning.
- 4:44Speaker 3: The run game part.
- 4:45Speaker 9: I also found I think you're right, Freddy, that part
- 4:48Speaker 9: when he he talked about the numbers not necessarily lining
- 4:52Speaker 9: up with the consistency like they you know, they they
- 4:54Speaker 9: pop some X players as Mike loves to call them,
- 4:58Speaker 9: and that sort of made numbers look better than they
- 5:00Speaker 9: really were. So the question stemmed off of adding Vera
- 5:05Speaker 9: Tucker and Reggie Gilliam and Julian Hill and you know,
- 5:09Speaker 9: appearing to be wanting to be more of a physical,
- 5:12Speaker 9: run oriented team, and he was like, no, we don't
- 5:14Speaker 9: want to run the ball anymore often.
- 5:16Speaker 3: We just want to run it more consistently.
- 5:19Speaker 9: And that's I thought that was interesting too, Like the
- 5:22Speaker 9: way you put that, Freddie.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Sure, Yeah, yeah, yeah. He also talked a lot about,
- 5:28Speaker 2: you know, when mentioning each guy. I love that guy.
- 5:31Speaker 4: I love him and I think he means it in
- 5:33Speaker 4: both ways. And I love him as a football player,
- 5:36Speaker 4: but I also love him as a person. He's talking
- 5:38Speaker 4: a lot about that. And yesterday when we talked to him, uh,
- 5:43Speaker 4: you know, we talked about free agency and you know,
- 5:46Speaker 4: the player traits, and he kind of jumped in and said,
- 5:49Speaker 4: you know, you know, I also look at them as
- 5:51Speaker 4: a person, you know, and that's first.
- 5:54Speaker 2: And I wonder how long you can keep that up
- 5:56Speaker 2: in that who the person is. Trump's what his talent is.
- 6:02Speaker 3: But that was his answer to Mike's question about Buyer yesterday.
- 6:05Speaker 6: Yeah, r that was I mean, that was what I
- 6:06Speaker 6: was trying to team up a little bit just to
- 6:08Speaker 6: talk about the player, and he went right into the person,
- 6:11Speaker 6: which he's been consistent with. I mean, I think that's
- 6:13Speaker 6: a philosophy of his coaching that acknowledging them as people.
- 6:16Speaker 10: Before well, that was a thing.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I'd rather have a team full of people I like
- 6:21Speaker 2: and lose than a bunch of you know, guys.
- 6:24Speaker 10: That are right.
- 6:25Speaker 6: But he's also said I don't know if it works
- 6:26Speaker 6: to have a bunch of choir boys either, you know,
- 6:28Speaker 6: like you got to have some flexibility with that. But
- 6:30Speaker 6: I think even some of the guys that are a
- 6:32Speaker 6: little rough around the edges that you can still connect
- 6:34Speaker 6: with them and find ways to you know, motivate.
- 6:36Speaker 2: That he is having that locker room that absorbs them.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, ideally you get a little bit
- 6:41Speaker 3: of both.
- 6:41Speaker 9: Like I would rather have Larry Fitzgerald, who by all
- 6:44Speaker 9: accounts is a model citizen and human being, who's also
- 6:48Speaker 9: a great player, right than say Antonio Brown, Tyreek Hill
- 6:52Speaker 9: or Antonio Brown, right, you know, who also are tremendously
- 6:56Speaker 9: talented players, arguably more talented than Larry Fitzgerald.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I'd rather have Larry Fitzgerald.
- 7:01Speaker 9: But you know that's obviously I'm not suggesting I'd rather have,
- 7:05Speaker 9: you know, a guy who's doesn't belong in the NFL
- 7:09Speaker 9: talent wise, but he's a great player and does everything
- 7:11Speaker 9: that you want, you know, you know your people to be,
- 7:15Speaker 9: but he can't play.
- 7:16Speaker 6: That's special when you find a player who can do both,
- 7:19Speaker 6: and those are the players you should invest to keep
- 7:22Speaker 6: around your organization because those are the guys that are
- 7:24Speaker 6: going to keep the locker room.
- 7:26Speaker 2: The other thing he was asked about was the eighteen
- 7:28Speaker 2: game schedule, and Robert Kraft also mentioned it that you know,
- 7:32Speaker 2: that's what they're working towards. No big surprise. I mean,
- 7:36Speaker 2: the day that they went to seventeen games, you knew
- 7:38Speaker 2: they weren't going to stick to that. Eighteen game is inevitable.
- 7:43Speaker 2: They're talking about Robert Craft talked about two bye weeks
- 7:49Speaker 2: and what effect that.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Would have, International game for everybody, International game for everybody.
- 7:53Speaker 4: Vrabel was asked the same question, and I thought, a
- 7:56Speaker 4: good answer, good neutral answer. I'll coach as many games
- 7:58Speaker 4: as they tell me to coach. Yeah, but he's on
- 8:01Speaker 4: the competition committee, so I'm sure that that gets talked about, yeah,
- 8:04Speaker 4: you know.
- 8:05Speaker 9: And I thought the way he answered it was interesting too.
- 8:10Speaker 9: You know, it kind of looks like he's just sort
- 8:11Speaker 9: of being neutral, and then he's like, you know, I'd
- 8:13Speaker 9: be on board with whatever both sides agree upon.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Right, right, both sides meaning the owners and.
- 8:19Speaker 9: The owners and the players, right, you know, So you
- 8:23Speaker 9: can sit there and you can complain and rail against
- 8:25Speaker 9: all of these things. The players have to agree to it,
- 8:28Speaker 9: and they will because there'll be money involved for them.
- 8:31Speaker 9: And I'm not saying that's right or wrong, but I'm
- 8:33Speaker 9: saying that's the direction that this is going to go.
- 8:36Speaker 9: But I thought it was interesting that Mike threw that
- 8:38Speaker 9: in there. So in other words, if we get eighteen,
- 8:40Speaker 9: I don't want to hear everybody complain.
- 8:41Speaker 6: And you guys agreed to it, right, you know, I
- 8:44Speaker 6: just wondered the mechanics of it with adding essentially two
- 8:47Speaker 6: more weeks then with a bye week in another game.
- 8:49Speaker 6: Do they back it up and start earlier? Do they
- 8:51Speaker 6: are we now into like the third week of February?
- 8:54Speaker 1: Like right?
- 8:55Speaker 9: So that was one of the questions they asked me
- 8:57Speaker 9: this morning. Yeah, you know about that, you know, a change.
- 9:00Speaker 9: And I have always been under the impression that since
- 9:02Speaker 9: they moved off of Labor Day weekend, they don't want to.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Play on Labor Day weekend. Now maybe maybe the.
- 9:08Speaker 9: Numbers ninety eight maybe eight, Yeah, no, it was.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Recent relatively speaking.
- 9:16Speaker 9: I want to say the first game of the year,
- 9:19Speaker 9: one of the years that Carol was the coach, either
- 9:22Speaker 9: ninety seven or ninety eight, was on August thirty first.
- 9:25Speaker 2: And why did they do it? What was the reasoning?
- 9:28Speaker 9: They felt like the ratings weren't great for Labor Day weekend.
- 9:31Speaker 9: Now maybe they feel like, now it's such a machine,
- 9:34Speaker 9: it doesn't matter. The ratings will not be affected by
- 9:36Speaker 9: Labor Day weekend.
- 9:37Speaker 6: Right, You think they'd be appealed, the appeal of having
- 9:40Speaker 6: that Monday off too. You're going to Sunday Monday.
- 9:43Speaker 9: I've long talked about the super Bowl being the day
- 9:47Speaker 9: before President's Day, so that can be like that natural,
- 9:51Speaker 9: like everybody has the day off. Well, most people have
- 9:55Speaker 9: the day off. We didn't this year for whatever reason.
- 9:59Speaker 9: But that's like the start of a lot of people's
- 10:03Speaker 9: winter break and for schools, and most people have that
- 10:08Speaker 9: as a national holiday.
- 10:09Speaker 10: So maybe that makes sense.
- 10:10Speaker 6: You get rid of that first preseason game, you still
- 10:12Speaker 6: have the two in the middle, you know, or maybe
- 10:14Speaker 6: actually eliminate the last preseason game, and then you play
- 10:16Speaker 6: Labor Day and you extend it one more, you know,
- 10:18Speaker 6: you have one on each end.
- 10:19Speaker 9: Yeah, because you're adding two weeks to the regular season.
- 10:23Speaker 9: So I think you might have to do both, you know,
- 10:27Speaker 9: you push it to the push the super Bowl a
- 10:30Speaker 9: week and start a week or well, I don't know.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Pushing the super Bowl means it falls on President's weekend,
- 10:35Speaker 2: right right. And there's also well.
- 10:37Speaker 4: They don't want to do it then because they want
- 10:39Speaker 4: people going to the office and talking about the game.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Really, that's not a reason.
- 10:44Speaker 3: I've never heard oh yeah at home on their earth.
- 10:46Speaker 10: Yeah, phones consuming content.
- 10:48Speaker 4: Right, right, So I don't think that's a reason not
- 10:51Speaker 4: to have the Super Bowl on President's Weekend. And I
- 10:53Speaker 4: think I think it's actually better. I think it makes
- 10:56Speaker 4: the whole game and the party that.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Night even less stressful because now you're.
- 11:00Speaker 6: Not right, Well, you start the season with a three
- 11:03Speaker 6: day weekend with Labor Day, you end it with a
- 11:05Speaker 6: three day weekend.
- 11:06Speaker 10: I'm sure Labor Day would be packed with a couple
- 11:08Speaker 10: of games.
- 11:08Speaker 2: It's a whole celebration.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Yeah, So I I think that I think those arguments
- 11:13Speaker 4: might be a little antiquated at this point.
- 11:15Speaker 3: What do you think of the two buys?
- 11:18Speaker 6: It's I mean, I'm interested how they're spaced out and
- 11:21Speaker 6: what the formula is for them, because you can't have
- 11:23Speaker 6: like sometimes teams have like what the third week they
- 11:25Speaker 6: have their by week because maybe the earliest they can
- 11:27Speaker 6: have it, you know, Are they too spread out?
- 11:30Speaker 10: Can there be some kind of formula.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Where it's I don't like. I don't like two buys.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's hard. I think it's gonna be hard to bounce.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I there's going to be that many more international games.
- 11:38Speaker 2: You might add a necessity need more buys. I don't know,
- 11:41Speaker 2: you know, yeah, because.
- 11:42Speaker 4: I mean they're they're talking about well, but they're already
- 11:44Speaker 4: playing in Australia, which is crazy. Asia is not far away,
- 11:48Speaker 4: you know. Eventually they'll be in Japan or Korea, you know,
- 11:52Speaker 4: South Korea or you know, maybe Goodness or maybe even
- 11:55Speaker 4: China at some point, you know, so that's not far away.
- 12:00Speaker 2: So they're gonna need.
- 12:03Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know, I remember those eight Yeah, yeah,
- 12:05Speaker 6: the choice made and everything.
- 12:06Speaker 10: Right then what happened?
- 12:08Speaker 3: Why did all fall I don't know, it fell through.
- 12:10Speaker 4: It was well, the Olympics were coming to China at
- 12:13Speaker 4: the same time, and the NFL. The NFL will never
- 12:17Speaker 4: admit this, but they were coming in with all these
- 12:18Speaker 4: demands in the stadium.
- 12:20Speaker 2: The lighting has to be this way. They and finally
- 12:22Speaker 2: the people in China.
- 12:23Speaker 4: The government basically said, we've got the Olympics coming, You're
- 12:27Speaker 4: coming in for one game. We're not spending the time
- 12:31Speaker 4: doing this. This is too many, too many demands here,
- 12:33Speaker 4: so they just ended it.
- 12:35Speaker 10: Yeah. I don't know, it's it.
- 12:37Speaker 6: I kind of am in favor of, like everything we're
- 12:39Speaker 6: talking about here. It was just gonna be a preseason yeah, right, Yeah,
- 12:42Speaker 6: A lot of long way to go halfway around them.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Blow.
- 12:45Speaker 1: But I don't know.
- 12:46Speaker 10: I like what we're talking about.
- 12:47Speaker 6: But at the same time, it just feels like a
- 12:49Speaker 6: lot of football, especially when it backs up now with
- 12:52Speaker 6: all the weather games that we just saw, Like, you know,
- 12:54Speaker 6: so it's it's gonna push the playoffs a little bit later,
- 12:57Speaker 6: right Like, there's gonna be more of those kind of
- 12:59Speaker 6: weather games.
- 12:59Speaker 10: That's, you know, just one thing.
- 13:01Speaker 6: I think that's and a little bit of a negative
- 13:03Speaker 6: side effect where you know, your your first week of
- 13:05Speaker 6: February and.
- 13:06Speaker 9: It doesn't matter what we think. But I'm one thousand
- 13:09Speaker 9: percent on board with Mike.
- 13:10Speaker 4: I think you know the old Mark Cuban thing, you know, pigs, Yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 4: pigs get fat and get slaughtered.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yep, right now we're moving from the pig to the hog.
- 13:20Speaker 6: I don't mean, I mean the NFL has just been
- 13:22Speaker 6: hogging it up for like the last twenty years.
- 13:24Speaker 1: So I don't know.
- 13:25Speaker 9: This is you know again, you know from our conversation
- 13:28Speaker 9: this morning when Fred Toucher you know, was talking about it,
- 13:31Speaker 9: and he was sort of saying, like, you know, at
- 13:33Speaker 9: some point they're not going to like it when the
- 13:35Speaker 9: Super Bowl is being played by two teams that are
- 13:38Speaker 9: missing like a half dozen key players each, you know,
- 13:43Speaker 9: and then all of a sudden you're like, well, well,
- 13:48Speaker 9: what's happening to the product? And at some point it
- 13:50Speaker 9: doesn't seem like it could ever happen now because the
- 13:54Speaker 9: NFL is just such a machine and so dominant. But
- 13:57Speaker 9: you know, he makes the point all the time. You know,
- 14:00Speaker 9: in our lifetimes or in our parents' lifetimes, it was boxing,
- 14:05Speaker 9: horse racing, and baseball. Well two of those three things
- 14:08Speaker 9: are basically irrelevant now, and baseball is kind of on
- 14:12Speaker 9: life support, I mean comparatively to the NFL and even
- 14:16Speaker 9: the NBA, which the NBA is kind of having a
- 14:19Speaker 9: down year for them, so it might seem like it's
- 14:23Speaker 9: going to be, you know, never ending. But at some point,
- 14:26Speaker 9: if people ever decide to actually watch the product and
- 14:30Speaker 9: see how bad these games are on Thursdays, and you know,
- 14:33Speaker 9: then they're gonna be Wednesday games. And you see they're
- 14:36Speaker 9: talking about the thing today. I saw Friday, right. They
- 14:41Speaker 9: don't want to have Friday included in the short week
- 14:43Speaker 9: games because you're only every team can only have a
- 14:46Speaker 9: maximum of two short week games a year. The NFL
- 14:50Speaker 9: wants to amend that, so Friday is not considered short week.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Like it's just gonna get worse and worse and worse.
- 14:57Speaker 9: It's like, the point I made this morning is, in
- 15:00Speaker 9: all the years that I've been in that locker i've
- 15:02Speaker 9: been talking to players, I've never hit it's one hundred
- 15:05Speaker 9: percent to zero. I've never heard of player say anything
- 15:07Speaker 9: positive about the Thursday night games, about the short week games.
- 15:11Speaker 6: They hate them. They all hate them. You just get
- 15:14Speaker 6: to keep happening. How much more can you change? I mean,
- 15:17Speaker 6: you're almost playing on every day. Now, you're going to
- 15:20Speaker 6: get to the eighteen game schedule. I mean, is that
- 15:22Speaker 6: is that it? That's where they're going to stay? Or
- 15:24Speaker 6: now we're talking about twenty.
- 15:25Speaker 4: I can't imagine how this didn't go further than that
- 15:28Speaker 4: because now you're now you're moving into spring crying out loud, right, yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 10: Well it was.
- 15:33Speaker 6: I mean I've said this even talking I was at
- 15:36Speaker 6: the draft preview party this weekend. That's talking to David
- 15:38Speaker 6: Andrews a little bit, just with the disclaimer of course
- 15:41Speaker 6: that we're in content and I don't do anything that hard,
- 15:44Speaker 6: but just the mental load of playoff games and the
- 15:48Speaker 6: uncertainty and how much you pour into every game and
- 15:51Speaker 6: then if you win, you get to do it again,
- 15:53Speaker 6: and not even getting home until mid February. And you know,
- 15:57Speaker 6: David was saying after some of those Super Bowl runs
- 15:59Speaker 6: where it was like, I get home, I need like
- 16:01Speaker 6: three weeks just to recover from the playoffs. And then
- 16:03Speaker 6: by the time you're finally starting to feel kind of normal,
- 16:06Speaker 6: it's time to go back for the off season program.
- 16:08Speaker 6: And with these condensed schedules. Now, I mean, if you know,
- 16:12Speaker 6: do you have to start training camp a little earlier?
- 16:14Speaker 10: Do you start it? You know, like, is there any week.
- 16:16Speaker 2: They'll get to eighteen, then they'll move back to sixteen
- 16:18Speaker 2: and expand the playoffs, you know.
- 16:21Speaker 3: See, I think that would be interesting.
- 16:23Speaker 2: I think that would be a yeah.
- 16:26Speaker 9: Like to make up for the lost revenue, you know,
- 16:29Speaker 9: make it eight you know, eight to side and have
- 16:32Speaker 9: it full.
- 16:32Speaker 3: You know.
- 16:33Speaker 9: I think that would be a better solution because now
- 16:35Speaker 9: you're not asking the entire league to do it, but
- 16:39Speaker 9: you're making the games bigger and more important, so you're making.
- 16:42Speaker 3: The revenue, right. Yeah, I think I think fred is on.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Jacket and Arbor says the same thing I was kind
- 16:47Speaker 4: of thinking I did, and say, he said to add
- 16:49Speaker 4: the extra game to go to eighteen. How about playing
- 16:52Speaker 4: a game on the last Sunday in August before Labor Dight,
- 16:54Speaker 4: then having an off weekend for the whole league on
- 16:57Speaker 4: Labor Day weekend. That would give all the teams a
- 16:59Speaker 4: one week breather after their opening game to fine tune
- 17:02Speaker 4: their teams. It would still leave Labor Day weekend free
- 17:04Speaker 4: for folks to celebrate the holiday.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:07Speaker 2: I don't know, but it's not like other sports aren't
- 17:09Speaker 2: being played on Labor Day weekend. I mean, the US
- 17:10Speaker 2: opens college football, right, So it's not like it's this
- 17:16Speaker 2: weekend where we need to have no sports. Plenty of
- 17:19Speaker 2: sports are happening.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:21Speaker 9: And the college thing, it's become huge, Yeah, because they
- 17:24Speaker 9: do it.
- 17:25Speaker 3: It's the whole weekend.
- 17:25Speaker 9: There's there's a game on Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Yeah, So I wonder if that's part of it.
- 17:32Speaker 9: This year it was Bill Bill played on the Monday night, right.
- 17:36Speaker 9: Not Well no, So.
- 17:39Speaker 6: Just the more games you add, the less value each
- 17:41Speaker 6: game has. And that's just you don't want it to
- 17:43Speaker 6: get watered down. And like I think Paul yours is
- 17:46Speaker 6: the best point. You don't want to get to the
- 17:47Speaker 6: Super Bowl and it's just the two teams that survived.
- 17:50Speaker 6: Like last year, that was part of the Patriots how
- 17:52Speaker 6: they got there. They survived, they had you know, very
- 17:54Speaker 6: limited injuries, especially by the time they.
- 17:56Speaker 10: Got to the Super Bowl. But so what if battle
- 17:58Speaker 10: of attrition every year just sort.
- 18:00Speaker 9: Of you know, hypothetically, Okay, what if bo Nicks didn't
- 18:07Speaker 9: get hurt against Buffalo, but he got hurt in the
- 18:09Speaker 9: last play of the game while they beat the Patriots. Yeah, right,
- 18:14Speaker 9: and that Denver team with Jarreed Stidham goes to the
- 18:16Speaker 9: Super Bowl, they might have scored negative fourteen points against
- 18:19Speaker 9: that Seahawks defense. Like that can happen, like and and
- 18:25Speaker 9: I understand injuries are part of the game and injuries
- 18:27Speaker 9: can happen at anytime. That's the the fallback. But the
- 18:31Speaker 9: more games you play, the more short weeks you play
- 18:35Speaker 9: on and I know they say, they claim the data
- 18:36Speaker 9: doesn't show this, but I'm sorry they're wrong. The more
- 18:39Speaker 9: wear and tear, the less time you have to recover,
- 18:41Speaker 9: the more injuries you're gonna have.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Sure.
- 18:44Speaker 4: And you know, because they're going to have to increase rosters,
- 18:47Speaker 4: you know, as part of this negotiation, you're just gonna
- 18:50Speaker 4: have to I wouldn't be You're gonna have to pay
- 18:52Speaker 4: more players, so.
- 18:55Speaker 2: You know there's a balance.
- 18:56Speaker 9: And the players will do the Kramer, you know with
- 19:00Speaker 9: the free coffee for life and say, you know, we'll
- 19:02Speaker 9: take it right. There'll be some random thing that they'll, oh,
- 19:05Speaker 9: we don't have to go to OTA's, you know, on
- 19:07Speaker 9: April twentieth next year.
- 19:09Speaker 3: It's not till the twenty seventh.
- 19:10Speaker 9: Yeah, we're in, you know, not realizing they just took
- 19:13Speaker 9: three years off their career in the back.
- 19:15Speaker 4: End, right, Jeff and Virginia with the second bye week?
- 19:18Speaker 4: Can they do the schedule so the Thursday games have
- 19:21Speaker 4: the teams with a bye week before it, so no
- 19:23Speaker 4: one has a short week. Doesn't that fix the Thursday
- 19:26Speaker 4: game issue?
- 19:28Speaker 6: I don't know how you manage the tonnage of it.
- 19:30Speaker 6: It sounds good in theory. I just there's math involved.
- 19:33Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, I'm sure there's people smarter than me,
- 19:37Speaker 9: you know, can do this. But can you give everybody
- 19:40Speaker 9: you buy before the Thursday game? I don't know if
- 19:42Speaker 9: that works. And then what happens when you do it twice?
- 19:46Speaker 10: Yeah, it was my understanding that there would be no math.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Correct, So that was a topic coming out of the
- 19:51Speaker 4: owners meeting. Also, I'm looking on on the screen on
- 19:54Speaker 4: an NFL network now the coaches photo, which is amazing
- 19:58Speaker 4: how every year it gets sected and analyzed.
- 20:02Speaker 2: There were two coaches that weren't in the photos.
- 20:04Speaker 3: This is worse than the schedule release.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Sean McVay.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Evans guy wasn't in the photo. He's becoming a little
- 20:12Speaker 4: bit like Belichick in terms of I don't need to do.
- 20:15Speaker 3: I don't need to go to the combine.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Uh.
- 20:19Speaker 2: And the other guy was was it Mokin the new
- 20:23Speaker 2: cad Monk Monkin from I don't think he wasn't in
- 20:26Speaker 2: it as well, but Rabel was front and center with
- 20:28Speaker 2: his legs. Man's taking a lot of space up.
- 20:33Speaker 9: Man spreading as they say, Yeah, he's definitely the that's
- 20:38Speaker 9: the Robert.
- 20:39Speaker 3: They're showing Robert.
- 20:40Speaker 10: Salah back in Thank God.
- 20:41Speaker 9: I mean, you know, yeah, Fred, everything about all the
- 20:45Speaker 9: things that you don't like. It's one of those hoodies,
- 20:47Speaker 9: the shirt hood It's like one of those sweatshirt hoodies
- 20:50Speaker 9: that you don't like that you make fun of every
- 20:51Speaker 9: time I wear it, right right, Uh, you know, he's
- 20:54Speaker 9: a big guy.
- 20:55Speaker 3: He's got huge shoulders, but he you know, he loves
- 20:57Speaker 3: to let you know that.
- 21:00Speaker 10: Surets.
- 21:00Speaker 3: He is a big guy.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah. I like it. I like how the hardballs are
- 21:05Speaker 2: sitting next to each other, the two brothers brothers.
- 21:08Speaker 10: Yeah, my buddy Kyle Brant breaking it all down like you.
- 21:11Speaker 4: But they really, they really analyze this this photo every year.
- 21:15Speaker 9: Hilarity ensues right here. Yeah, you're right, it gets this
- 21:19Speaker 9: treatment that it's so fun.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Like I always look at it.
- 21:22Speaker 9: I was like, half of them look like such doors,
- 21:25Speaker 9: you know, and ben Jonson looks like you might kill somebody, right,
- 21:29Speaker 9: That's that's his comportment, that he's got the crazy eyes, right, Yeah,
- 21:35Speaker 9: you're right.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Yeah, So all right, what else Hard Knocks? Well, yes,
- 21:40Speaker 4: good one announced finally Patriots will be.
- 21:44Speaker 9: I finally got the push that meaning I have a
- 21:47Speaker 9: year and a half to find something.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yeah, part of the training cam Hard Knocks in twenty
- 21:52Speaker 2: twenty seven, which is this the first time they announced
- 21:55Speaker 2: it a year in advance?
- 21:56Speaker 10: So why do you think they did? Teams?
- 21:57Speaker 6: I don't know the two Super Bowl teams too, but
- 22:00Speaker 6: I don't think either one of them have been on
- 22:02Speaker 6: it in the twenty five year history.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Well they haven't. But what I'm saying is they announced
- 22:06Speaker 2: a year in advance.
- 22:07Speaker 9: Yes, I don't ever remember that, but I'm wondering if
- 22:09Speaker 9: they've run out of teams that haven't done it.
- 22:11Speaker 6: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, they've begin to adjust the rule why,
- 22:15Speaker 6: like you know, the head coaching rule. But now it's
- 22:17Speaker 6: doesn't matter if you didn't make the playoffs or not.
- 22:19Speaker 6: If you made the playoffs, you can you can still
- 22:21Speaker 6: be on. So no, it's interesting. I mean I used
- 22:24Speaker 6: to love it. I've kind of fallen out. It became
- 22:26Speaker 6: kind of formulaic. I like some of the other versions
- 22:29Speaker 6: that they've done in season. I thought those were interesting
- 22:32Speaker 6: seeing again, I love watching coaches talk to their teams.
- 22:35Speaker 6: But we'll see, I mean, this is now two really
- 22:37Speaker 6: good teams, so it'll be interesting to see how they maybe
- 22:40Speaker 6: adjust the format or you know, is this, to your point, Fred,
- 22:43Speaker 6: something they're trying to do to build some excitement. You know,
- 22:46Speaker 6: we're saying, how does that affect fortune Foxborough? It has
- 22:48Speaker 6: now become like a competing you know, property.
- 22:51Speaker 4: The good News battle now two years to prepare for that,
- 22:54Speaker 4: but it does affect like what we would do with that.
- 22:57Speaker 4: I'll like, either we would collaborate in we would you know,
- 23:01Speaker 4: do some kinds of things and let the NFL Films
- 23:04Speaker 4: do others or you know, I don't know.
- 23:07Speaker 2: We have to think about it.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Take the year off.
- 23:09Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's interesting. I just wonder what the
- 23:14Speaker 9: reaction would have been if it were Belichick. You know,
- 23:16Speaker 9: I think, you know, Mike was asked about to tell
- 23:18Speaker 9: you He's like, I can't wait, Yeah, I can't wait.
- 23:20Speaker 9: And I kind of believe them, you know, I think
- 23:25Speaker 9: I think he's looking forward to it as an opportunity.
- 23:27Speaker 6: What is the hand like when they were here in
- 23:29Speaker 6: on nine shooting Bill for that was, you know, inside
- 23:31Speaker 6: the NFL or football life.
- 23:33Speaker 10: Do they have a heavy footprint here.
- 23:35Speaker 6: I don't really even know they're there. Yeah, yeah, because
- 23:38Speaker 6: they're really smart. I mean they obviously now with every team,
- 23:41Speaker 6: And if that's.
- 23:42Speaker 9: From the media perspective, I'm sure the players knew constantly
- 23:46Speaker 9: when they were in like the meeting rooms and stuff.
- 23:48Speaker 9: There's cameras there that aren't usually there, right for us,
- 23:51Speaker 9: you know, like in the media work room during a
- 23:53Speaker 9: Belichick press conference, I don't think we're recognizing, Oh, that
- 23:55Speaker 9: camera's not usually here, that's an NFL Films camera, you
- 23:58Speaker 9: know what I mean. So for us yeah, it's going
- 24:01Speaker 9: to be like I don't think I even knew that
- 24:02Speaker 9: was coming out until it came out.
- 24:03Speaker 10: Really like for our video we started it.
- 24:06Speaker 6: Yeah, well, I mean we always hear from our video
- 24:08Speaker 6: team about the battles that they have to fight on
- 24:10Speaker 6: the sidelines, and you know, sometimes they're moved or you know,
- 24:13Speaker 6: they can't stay in here or whatever. And now it
- 24:15Speaker 6: seems like you'll have a few different camera crews, you know,
- 24:18Speaker 6: following people around.
- 24:18Speaker 10: But I'm just interested to see behind the scenes and.
- 24:21Speaker 6: It'll be I'm just interesting how it compares to Forge,
- 24:24Speaker 6: you know, and you know, hey, you gave Fortune Foxborough
- 24:27Speaker 6: this access, so we get this, or you gave you know,
- 24:30Speaker 6: behind the scenes.
- 24:31Speaker 10: With NFL they got in there. Can we get in
- 24:33Speaker 10: the locker room? You know, it seems like it's going
- 24:34Speaker 10: to be a little bit of a negotiation in terms
- 24:36Speaker 10: of that.
- 24:38Speaker 4: Access is not an issue anymore, you know, as long
- 24:41Speaker 4: as we do it respectfully and you know, aren't really
- 24:46Speaker 4: revealing anything that would hurt the team, They give us
- 24:50Speaker 4: whatever we want.
- 24:51Speaker 6: I have a question, do you think the new training
- 24:53Speaker 6: facility has anything to do with it?
- 24:55Speaker 2: I think, well, I don't know, maybe maybe ownership here
- 24:59Speaker 2: asked for it perhaps, you know, like, can we get
- 25:02Speaker 2: the next open spot? Yeah, because we're proud of this thing.
- 25:05Speaker 2: And let's face.
- 25:06Speaker 4: It, with you just sign New Balance to a big deal.
- 25:08Speaker 4: It doesn't hurt them too to be able to smile.
- 25:11Speaker 4: I have never even thought of.
- 25:12Speaker 2: That, to be able to say to New Balance, you're
- 25:14Speaker 2: going to be on hard docks.
- 25:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean in that place is going to be
- 25:17Speaker 6: front center, right, I mean all the slow march shots outside,
- 25:20Speaker 6: all the.
- 25:21Speaker 10: You know, a lot of sign and sign.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Evan's here, Hello, how you doing.
- 25:25Speaker 3: We'll be up to writing up.
- 25:28Speaker 5: Rabel's press conference. Thirty minutes of audio to sift through. So, uh,
- 25:33Speaker 5: those are long. Those are long.
- 25:34Speaker 2: We've talked about it a little. But what what's stuck
- 25:37Speaker 2: out for you?
- 25:38Speaker 5: I would say the two biggest takeaways for me were
- 25:42Speaker 5: I read went back and listened and read the quote again.
- 25:44Speaker 5: He basically said that Gonzales has earned a contract extension.
- 25:48Speaker 5: So that's how he feels about it. You know, I
- 25:51Speaker 5: think there's often on his shows, you know, people question
- 25:54Speaker 5: whether or not you know, like them, right, and I
- 25:59Speaker 5: mean every time he talks about him pretty positively. But
- 26:03Speaker 5: this time he said, you know, we want to draft
- 26:05Speaker 5: good players, and we want to identify the players we
- 26:07Speaker 5: want to keep in Christians one of them, you know.
- 26:09Speaker 5: So it came out and said it. The other thought
- 26:12Speaker 5: thing I thought was interesting something that Deuce has been
- 26:15Speaker 5: all over, which is, you know, Drake May's growth in
- 26:18Speaker 5: year three. And he pointed to the line of scrimmage
- 26:21Speaker 5: and you know, seeing things better pre snap and communicating
- 26:25Speaker 5: and you know, not only just conveying the play and
- 26:30Speaker 5: all that kind of stuff, but he specifically pointed to,
- 26:33Speaker 5: you know, seeing things and adjusting protections and all that
- 26:37Speaker 5: kind of stuff. And to me, that was the Super
- 26:39Speaker 5: Bowl just hanging over all the coaches heads of like
- 26:43Speaker 5: he wasn't ready, you know, he wasn't ready for question
- 26:47Speaker 5: him ready. It's a good question. We were actually chatting
- 26:49Speaker 5: about it almost. I feel like it's a daily, ongoing
- 26:52Speaker 5: conversation that Mike and I have. But I think that
- 26:55Speaker 5: it's a combination of you know, him obviously rowing and
- 27:01Speaker 5: seeing more looks and seeing more defenses and that whole thing.
- 27:05Speaker 5: But I also think that there's a happy medium of
- 27:09Speaker 5: this is a playmaker at the position that can move
- 27:11Speaker 5: around and can create plays on his own outside of
- 27:14Speaker 5: the structure of the offense so that he doesn't necessarily
- 27:18Speaker 5: need to be Tom Brady and get everybody pointed in
- 27:21Speaker 5: the right direction one hundred percent of the time. So
- 27:24Speaker 5: how can they kind of find a balance there? Of Well,
- 27:28Speaker 5: if he doesn't see that the Nichols blitzing and Devin
- 27:30Speaker 5: Witherspoon is coming Scott free to the quarterback, you know,
- 27:34Speaker 5: how can we let him kind of go into his
- 27:36Speaker 5: own playmaking mode and then make something happen if he
- 27:40Speaker 5: has to do that.
- 27:41Speaker 10: Yeah, it's got me thinking.
- 27:42Speaker 6: I mean, we've had conversations this offseason and there are
- 27:45Speaker 6: plenty of people in football who feel like if Drake
- 27:47Speaker 6: may progresses and they do a good job protecting him,
- 27:50Speaker 6: everything else will work itself out. But it's made me
- 27:53Speaker 6: wondering about your mental ceiling. And obviously Tom Brady's mental
- 27:57Speaker 6: ceiling was incredible. He could retain information. I mean, he
- 28:01Speaker 6: always says my superpower was my mind. Before snap, I
- 28:04Speaker 6: looked at Kansas City's defense, I knew exactly what they were.
- 28:07Speaker 10: I knew them better than they did.
- 28:09Speaker 6: You can study a lot, but can you retain that
- 28:11Speaker 6: information and can you execute it when the game is
- 28:14Speaker 6: on the line. And I think that's that might be
- 28:16Speaker 6: what the question with Drake is. Last year, I kind
- 28:18Speaker 6: of like simplified it and saying, is Drake clutch? That
- 28:20Speaker 6: was kind of my little pocket question for the year,
- 28:22Speaker 6: which I don't really know we figure that out or
- 28:24Speaker 6: if there is a definitive answer for that, but I
- 28:27Speaker 6: think this might be the question of, you know, what
- 28:28Speaker 6: is his ceiling in terms of his mental capacity in
- 28:33Speaker 6: every situation to get the team in the right play
- 28:35Speaker 6: and execute.
- 28:35Speaker 10: And I mean Tevin's point he has got.
- 28:37Speaker 5: Some is that totally fairy dude, not only because of
- 28:41Speaker 5: his age, but also just because there's only one Tom
- 28:44Speaker 5: Brady And I think the only guy that I saw
- 28:46Speaker 5: that was really in command of an offense like that
- 28:49Speaker 5: was Peyton Manning. So now we're comparing him to two
- 28:51Speaker 5: of the greatest to ever do it. So I guess
- 28:54Speaker 5: it really fair to sit there and say that, you know,
- 28:57Speaker 5: he should be able to do all these things, and
- 28:59Speaker 5: then I would just say, you know, this is a
- 29:01Speaker 5: lot of Last year was kind of like the you know,
- 29:05Speaker 5: he got a bachelor's degree and Josh McDaniel's is right now,
- 29:09Speaker 5: he's in year two of the offense. We're hoping that
- 29:11Speaker 5: he's going to be getting his PhD soon. Yeah, and
- 29:14Speaker 5: that I don't think we put enough credence into that
- 29:17Speaker 5: because they were winning so much last year. Just how
- 29:20Speaker 5: new all of this was for him, especially driving the
- 29:23Speaker 5: bus at the line of scrimmage, which wasn't something that
- 29:25Speaker 5: he did his rookie year.
- 29:26Speaker 6: Well, it's just a Fred's point. It's like, how do
- 29:28Speaker 6: you get him there? How do you help them be
- 29:30Speaker 6: able to do that because a lot.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Of it is repetition, reps, reps, reps, reps, reps.
- 29:34Speaker 6: And I do believe that, you know, coaching can help
- 29:38Speaker 6: boost him along that road. Now it's going to be
- 29:40Speaker 6: him to achieve his ceiling. And I get Brady for
- 29:42Speaker 6: credit for reaching the ceiling he did, but I think
- 29:45Speaker 6: Josh is going to be able to give him all
- 29:47Speaker 6: the answers to the test. It's just can he remember
- 29:49Speaker 6: them and execute them within the pressure.
- 29:51Speaker 10: Of the game situation.
- 29:52Speaker 6: So, you know, it made me feel a little bit
- 29:54Speaker 6: better of just like not this desperate, like, you know,
- 29:57Speaker 6: just a reminder that you've got a really talented kid
- 30:00Speaker 6: and how far he can go in this system is
- 30:02Speaker 6: still unknown.
- 30:03Speaker 4: When I think of quarterbacks reading defenses and seeing what's
- 30:09Speaker 4: about to happen. I always related to those master chess people.
- 30:14Speaker 4: They've played so many games of chess that when they
- 30:16Speaker 4: see the board and they see the current configuration, they
- 30:20Speaker 4: know the moves that have to be made based on
- 30:23Speaker 4: the situation of the board because they've done it so
- 30:26Speaker 4: many times.
- 30:28Speaker 2: You know, I've seen that before. And that's where you
- 30:31Speaker 2: have to get to as a quarterback is having seen
- 30:36Speaker 2: every defense that they could possibly be. There can never
- 30:39Speaker 2: be more than eleven guys in the field, So you
- 30:42Speaker 2: start there and then you know, you work from backwards
- 30:45Speaker 2: from there. And you know, Brady, like he said, I
- 30:47Speaker 2: had the answers to the test because, like you said,
- 30:50Speaker 2: he retained it. Everything that he saw he remembered. So
- 30:54Speaker 2: I've seen that before. I've seen that tell before.
- 30:58Speaker 6: Maybe this is a bad example, but maybe you'll get
- 31:00Speaker 6: us to where I'm trying to get us to where
- 31:02Speaker 6: Like Jared Goff, I feel like with him, like maybe
- 31:05Speaker 6: some of the execution under pressure and key moments has
- 31:08Speaker 6: never maybe quite been there. And again, maybe this is
- 31:10Speaker 6: a bad example, but I'm trying to think of players
- 31:13Speaker 6: who have been in the league for a while who
- 31:15Speaker 6: have had success but haven't quite been able to get
- 31:18Speaker 6: to that level of like I feel like this guy's
- 31:20Speaker 6: a master and no matter what you throw at him,
- 31:22Speaker 6: he's going to have an answer for it.
- 31:24Speaker 10: I mean, am I making any sense with that? Do
- 31:26Speaker 10: you know what I'm saying?
- 31:26Speaker 6: Like, I just don't think it's a guarantee that just
- 31:28Speaker 6: because Drake plays one hundred and one hundred and fifty
- 31:30Speaker 6: games that all of a sudden, oh he's got it now,
- 31:33Speaker 6: he's seen everything.
- 31:33Speaker 5: That's sort of wind up putting Like that's a high
- 31:36Speaker 5: bar to set. And I think the different offenses do
- 31:40Speaker 5: it differently, where this offense tries to get into the
- 31:43Speaker 5: best play possible before the ball is even snapped, whereas
- 31:46Speaker 5: other offense, especially the West Coast guys like they are
- 31:49Speaker 5: all post snap reactions. Like when if the team brings
- 31:52Speaker 5: a blitz, they have like a hot route that's predetermined
- 31:56Speaker 5: within the concept that the quarterbacks they supposed to throw.
- 31:59Speaker 2: The ball to.
- 32:00Speaker 5: And that is is just it doesn't they don't move protections,
- 32:05Speaker 5: they don't set mics, they don't do all that kind
- 32:07Speaker 5: of craft. They just snap the ball.
- 32:08Speaker 4: In that offense, you said, if there's a blitz, then
- 32:11Speaker 4: there's a hot route. Yeah, how does the receiver because
- 32:14Speaker 4: they're focused on the guy in front of them there,
- 32:16Speaker 4: they know that a blitz just.
- 32:17Speaker 5: Have their job is decided. Just their job is to
- 32:20Speaker 5: see it too. How you're just by aware hot route.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Because if you're lined up over here and you're into
- 32:28Speaker 4: your route and then the blitz comes from the far
- 32:30Speaker 4: corner or a safety, yeah, how do you see that?
- 32:33Speaker 11: Well?
- 32:33Speaker 5: Sometimes too, like it's you know, there's sight adjustments and
- 32:36Speaker 5: then there's like pure hot routes, and like sometimes with
- 32:39Speaker 5: hot routes, like it might just be as short underneath
- 32:42Speaker 5: route and that's just the design of the play, right,
- 32:45Speaker 5: is that this guy is just running a slant or
- 32:47Speaker 5: he's running a flat or something like that. That's just
- 32:50Speaker 5: that's his natural route within the progression. And the quarterback's
- 32:54Speaker 5: job is to see the blitz coming and then go
- 32:56Speaker 5: there first, right instead of skipping the natural agression of
- 33:00Speaker 5: it because he's hot, he's got it. You know, too
- 33:03Speaker 5: many guys coming, more blitzers than you have blockers, right,
- 33:08Speaker 5: so that then you become hot.
- 33:10Speaker 1: You know.
- 33:10Speaker 5: Then there's sight adjustments, which is like what the Patriots
- 33:13Speaker 5: used to do in the heyday, where like everybody sees
- 33:16Speaker 5: it coming and then they actually are are adjusting their
- 33:19Speaker 5: route on the fly to change the route into a
- 33:23Speaker 5: route that can beat the blitz. So that's why Julian
- 33:26Speaker 5: Edelman used to joke that this is calculus, like, well,
- 33:28Speaker 5: this is a it's a complicated part of the offense.
- 33:32Speaker 5: And so I just wonder where they can kind of
- 33:36Speaker 5: not dumb it down but just recognize the talent, because
- 33:41Speaker 5: you know, Frabel did add that it's not physical, like
- 33:44Speaker 5: they have no physical you know, areas of growth for
- 33:49Speaker 5: Drake may like they're like physically, this kid is unbelievably talented.
- 33:53Speaker 5: It's all gonna be between the ears and whether he
- 33:55Speaker 5: can get there.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Yep, good stuff. Yeah, what else? And Evan before move on,
- 34:01Speaker 2: did you guys touch on?
- 34:02Speaker 5: I mean, he's basically screaming for a tight end, Like
- 34:06Speaker 5: I think he's gonna you know, pound the table as
- 34:09Speaker 5: we like to say, you know, in the draft rooms
- 34:11Speaker 5: for that. So he said that he would he would
- 34:14Speaker 5: take all of them if he could. So I think
- 34:16Speaker 5: a tight end in the draft is as big of
- 34:18Speaker 5: a lock you know. When is obviously the question that
- 34:20Speaker 5: we can debate for the next three weeks. But uh,
- 34:23Speaker 5: a tight end I think we can all see is coming.
- 34:25Speaker 5: It's just a matter of when in the draft it's
- 34:27Speaker 5: coming and who.
- 34:29Speaker 10: Okay, what do you Maybe they might be a couple.
- 34:32Speaker 2: I wouldn't rule it.
- 34:33Speaker 9: I've seen a couple of marks with with multiple tight ends.
- 34:36Speaker 9: Someone had a seven round mark that had two.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Tight ends going at the Patriots.
- 34:40Speaker 5: I have a tough time with with double dipping at
- 34:42Speaker 5: that position though, because you signed Hill and you signed Gilliam.
- 34:46Speaker 5: Who Gilliam's kind of going to be in that in
- 34:48Speaker 5: that numbers crunch at tight end, So you know, are
- 34:51Speaker 5: you going to carry four tight ends plus a fullbacks?
- 34:56Speaker 5: Now you're taking up five roster spots on tight end
- 34:59Speaker 5: slash back. It feels like a little bit like a overkill. Yeah.
- 35:04Speaker 2: What did you think about the Hard Knocks announcement two years.
- 35:08Speaker 5: I thought, yeah, I think that's interesting. I think there's
- 35:10Speaker 5: not a lot of interest for Hard Knocks compared to
- 35:15Speaker 5: what it used to be.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Like Duce said earlier, is formulaic Now yeah.
- 35:19Speaker 5: Yeah, there's not a lot of interest. I think that.
- 35:22Speaker 5: I believe it was JJ Watt who ruined Hard.
- 35:24Speaker 6: Knocks man flipping the tire over, well, no, he I
- 35:28Speaker 6: think it was him.
- 35:30Speaker 5: He claimed that he got the cadence and the snap
- 35:35Speaker 5: count of an opponent that they were playing from watching
- 35:38Speaker 5: episodes of Hard Knocks. And ever since that point, the
- 35:43Speaker 5: football has been stripped out of Hard Knocks and they
- 35:46Speaker 5: they've dumbed down the football elements of it because I
- 35:49Speaker 5: think it was JJ Watt claimed that he had the
- 35:53Speaker 5: answers to the test because he studied their Hard Knocks practices,
- 35:58Speaker 5: and then we had it was at the Super Bowl
- 36:01Speaker 5: when we talked to Brian Hoyer and he said that
- 36:03Speaker 5: he did the same thing for the Rams in twenty eighteen,
- 36:06Speaker 5: that he watched their like behind the scenes stuff of
- 36:09Speaker 5: their practices and was able to like pick up on
- 36:12Speaker 5: things that he was able to use on the scout
- 36:14Speaker 5: team trying to mimic Jared Goff. So I think a
- 36:17Speaker 5: lot of that has stripped down Hard Knocks, you know,
- 36:21Speaker 5: to you know, more bare bones. And then also the
- 36:25Speaker 5: Giants doing the off season one and it being a
- 36:28Speaker 5: disaster hurt the brand a lot too.
- 36:31Speaker 6: I like that one that was, I mean, it was
- 36:32Speaker 6: great in hindsight watching them make all kinds of decisions.
- 36:36Speaker 5: But yeah, so I think that you know, they're trying
- 36:38Speaker 5: to by putting the two you know, representatives in the
- 36:42Speaker 5: Super Bowl back to back years and two hot teams,
- 36:45Speaker 5: two hot coaches. They're trying to drum.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Upfully, we'll still be hot in two years, right, Oh
- 36:50Speaker 2: definitely about Yeah, good, we're back. Remember we're still back,
- 36:54Speaker 2: Joel and san Antonio.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Uh.
- 36:57Speaker 4: With the announcement of hard knocks, I can envision HBO
- 36:59Speaker 4: and talks with Bill and him just giving them the
- 37:02Speaker 4: blank stare and saying, get the f out of here.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Could this be a bit of a recruiting move by Rabel?
- 37:07Speaker 2: Well he's not the one that made the decision, but
- 37:09Speaker 2: can you use hard knocks as a recruiting tool in
- 37:12Speaker 2: the NFL? I mean, players care that I'm going to
- 37:14Speaker 2: be on a team that's on hard knocks.
- 37:16Speaker 6: I mean as much as forge could have been, you know,
- 37:19Speaker 6: seeing the kyle of coach talk to the team a
- 37:20Speaker 6: little bit, I think.
- 37:21Speaker 9: I was gonna you could maybe sell yourself. You know,
- 37:23Speaker 9: you're gonna have cameras on you and how you come across.
- 37:26Speaker 9: Maybe it could be attractive or not attractive to prospective
- 37:29Speaker 9: free agents. But yeah, I mean the fact that you're
- 37:31Speaker 9: on hard knocks, I don't think.
- 37:33Speaker 6: And are the players really watching that, like while they're
- 37:35Speaker 6: in training camp of their own you know, I don't know.
- 37:37Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 37:39Speaker 4: Rick and Riverside, Rhode Island. I enjoy watching Rabel interact
- 37:43Speaker 4: with the media. He had times can pull a Belichick,
- 37:45Speaker 4: but in a way that doesn't have him come across
- 37:47Speaker 4: as a jerk. Is it correctly say Boston Sports media
- 37:51Speaker 4: enjoys working with Rabel?
- 37:52Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, I think so far.
- 37:54Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:55Speaker 6: It's even when he busts you, chops, this feels like
- 37:57Speaker 6: it's in good fun. It never feels like he's staring,
- 37:59Speaker 6: like steering lasers through you, and you're not awkward silence.
- 38:03Speaker 5: But he just yesterday, he does a really he's a
- 38:09Speaker 5: good coach to work with because he gives you just
- 38:12Speaker 5: enough that you feel like you get something out of
- 38:14Speaker 5: the press conferences. Even I know it's such an insignificant
- 38:20Speaker 5: thing to most people, but like Friday is giving the
- 38:22Speaker 5: injury report before the injury report calls out, Right, that's
- 38:26Speaker 5: two hours on a Friday afternoon that you save during
- 38:31Speaker 5: the season, you know, compared to waiting all the way
- 38:34Speaker 5: till four o'clock. I know that that's like, you know,
- 38:37Speaker 5: first world problems, but those little things like do kind
- 38:40Speaker 5: of go a long way, Like not having all that stuff,
- 38:42Speaker 5: like these state secrets, like who are they going to
- 38:45Speaker 5: call up on Saturday? You know, sometimes when they knew
- 38:47Speaker 5: ahead of time, he would tell you, you know, and not
- 38:51Speaker 5: make you wait all the way till four o'clock Saturday afternoon.
- 38:54Speaker 5: So those types of things and then the answers, I think,
- 38:57Speaker 5: are you know, a little bit more fansive then then
- 39:01Speaker 5: Bill obviously, but I think that there's also like, you know,
- 39:05Speaker 5: he's so good at connecting with people. I mean, we
- 39:07Speaker 5: see that with the players, which is obviously the most
- 39:09Speaker 5: important thing, but even like it's starting to happen a
- 39:12Speaker 5: little bit with the media. You know, he knows everybody's name.
- 39:14Speaker 5: He is guy a little bit of something with almost
- 39:18Speaker 5: every single person. Yeah, you know.
- 39:20Speaker 2: That's you mentioned today.
- 39:21Speaker 4: You know, I know we have our spats, but I
- 39:22Speaker 4: appreciate what you're doing. I know why you're doing it,
- 39:25Speaker 4: and big part of bringing the fans back, you know.
- 39:28Speaker 9: So that seems like a small thing, and to Evan's point,
- 39:31Speaker 9: like you think it's not all that important but for
- 39:34Speaker 9: the for the guys that are covering it. For him
- 39:36Speaker 9: to he basically recognized that, Okay, we're going to get
- 39:39Speaker 9: into a little bit of a stretch here of national
- 39:41Speaker 9: type questions and I'm going to cut those off, Yeah,
- 39:44Speaker 9: because I want to make sure I take care of
- 39:46Speaker 9: these local guys who have done it for us all
- 39:48Speaker 9: year long, and they're all the way out here in Arizona.
- 39:51Speaker 9: And that was what that transition was. There was there
- 39:53Speaker 9: was a couple. There was a Chicago based guy, I
- 39:56Speaker 9: assume asked about brad Berry and it looked like there
- 39:58Speaker 9: was going to be another one, and he was like,
- 40:00Speaker 9: he looked at Mike Rees and said, Mike, what do
- 40:02Speaker 9: you got.
- 40:02Speaker 3: I wanted to make sure I take care of those,
- 40:04Speaker 3: take care of you local guys.
- 40:05Speaker 9: And that's when he went into that whole explanation of Hollybool.
- 40:09Speaker 9: He appreciates the coverage, self awareness. Yeah, you know, that
- 40:14Speaker 9: goes a long way.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Good stuff.
- 40:15Speaker 5: We'll see what happens, you know, when they're not fourteen
- 40:18Speaker 5: and three, right, I know, but I think right now
- 40:20Speaker 5: it's it's been an unbelievably good working relationship all right.
- 40:26Speaker 4: Time for a break. But when we come back, we've
- 40:29Speaker 4: got calls coming in, We've got emails coming in.

- 42:54Speaker 2: taking some time from the owners meeting. Coach, thanks for joining.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Thanks for having me. How are you guys?
- 43:00Speaker 2: Oh, we're doing good. You know, we're back here doing
- 43:02Speaker 2: our work. You know, someone's got to do the work
- 43:04Speaker 2: while you're away.
- 43:06Speaker 1: It looks like you guys are working hard.
- 43:09Speaker 2: So just to start off, you're at the owner's meeting.
- 43:12Speaker 2: What's the owners meeting like for a head coach?
- 43:16Speaker 15: Well, I think that there's a lot of Uh, there's
- 43:19Speaker 15: different committees that sometimes you're a part of and sometimes
- 43:21Speaker 15: that you're not. And then if you're if you're not
- 43:24Speaker 15: part of those committees, then it's more informative.
- 43:28Speaker 1: There's dialogue based on you know.
- 43:31Speaker 15: Football ops, the proposals, refereeing, you know, every aspect that
- 43:36Speaker 15: really touches our game outside of the the ex's and
- 43:39Speaker 15: o's with our players. Yeah, there's a lot of informative meetings.
- 43:43Speaker 15: There's a lot of dialogue. There's a lot of conversations
- 43:46Speaker 15: and then ultimately, you know, the owners will vote on
- 43:49Speaker 15: some of the rule proposals and and by law proposals.
- 43:53Speaker 9: Yep, you seem like you're pretty active in some of
- 43:56Speaker 9: those committees, Mike, which ones you are part of?
- 44:00Speaker 15: Well, you know been having asked have been on a
- 44:02Speaker 15: competition committee during my time at Tennessee. That's recently something
- 44:07Speaker 15: that I've been invited back on. So I think that
- 44:11Speaker 15: that's been fun and been something that I've always enjoyed,
- 44:15Speaker 15: is to try to, you know, do what's best for
- 44:17Speaker 15: the game, do what's best for our fans, and find
- 44:19Speaker 15: ways to make the game better and safer for our players.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Yep, Mike, just.
- 44:24Speaker 10: Want to ask you about the free agency period.
- 44:25Speaker 6: You guys signed a number of players, but none you're
- 44:28Speaker 6: probably more familiar with than Kevin Byerd coming off a
- 44:31Speaker 6: great season with Chicago. I know you spoke about him
- 44:33Speaker 6: last year, but just when you got to Tennessee, when.
- 44:35Speaker 10: Did you realize how special of a player that he is?
- 44:39Speaker 15: Well, I think I realized how special of a person, right,
- 44:42Speaker 15: you talk about the player, but you know, really just
- 44:46Speaker 15: from an early time there, realized what kind of special
- 44:49Speaker 15: person he was as a leader and as a teammate,
- 44:53Speaker 15: the way that he engaged the building and the entire staff,
- 44:56Speaker 15: the coaching staff, and his teammates. So you know, we
- 44:58Speaker 15: started there and realized how solid of a person he
- 45:02Speaker 15: was and father and husband, and then you know, he's
- 45:04Speaker 15: an excellent player and like we talked about last year,
- 45:08Speaker 15: just been consistent in his attitude, his performance, his availability.
- 45:13Speaker 1: So those are a.
- 45:15Speaker 15: Lot of things that are positive and that he's going
- 45:16Speaker 15: to hopefully bring to our football team.
- 45:18Speaker 9: Mike, I wanted to ask you about Romeo Dobbs sticking
- 45:21Speaker 9: with the free agents that Mike started with, just you know,
- 45:25Speaker 9: some of the traits that he brings in some of
- 45:26Speaker 9: the things that maybe you hope will translate, you know,
- 45:29Speaker 9: into what Josh wants to do and for Drake May
- 45:32Speaker 9: and the rest of the offense.
- 45:34Speaker 15: Yeah, I think first of all, he loves football. I mean,
- 45:36Speaker 15: he is a football junkie. He loved talking football.
- 45:40Speaker 1: You know.
- 45:40Speaker 15: From the time that that we were able to sign
- 45:43Speaker 15: him and have him come into the building, you know,
- 45:45Speaker 15: he didn't really want to see.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Any of the you know, the new building.
- 45:49Speaker 15: Yeah, he wanted to see some of that, but he
- 45:51Speaker 15: really wanted to meet with with Josh and and talk
- 45:54Speaker 15: and meet with Todd Downing and meet with me about
- 45:56Speaker 15: football and all the things that he wants to do
- 45:59Speaker 15: to continue need to improve. You know, his skill set
- 46:03Speaker 15: and his impact on the team. But you know, as
- 46:06Speaker 15: a player that's been really consistent over the first four
- 46:09Speaker 15: years of his career. Showed up in the red zone,
- 46:13Speaker 15: he showed up on third down. He's got a good
- 46:15Speaker 15: savvy to him. You know, runs the full route tree
- 46:18Speaker 15: is good. You know, I would say play strength at
- 46:21Speaker 15: the point of you know, the catch point, the contested
- 46:24Speaker 15: catches that are always critical there.
- 46:26Speaker 1: And you know, continues to build.
- 46:28Speaker 15: Savvy and he's playing a lot of football and he's
- 46:31Speaker 15: you know, relatively young still.
- 46:33Speaker 2: So now with free agency kicked off, now we're closing
- 46:38Speaker 2: in on the draft a little more than three weeks away.
- 46:41Speaker 2: What's your cadence of communication with Elliott and Ryan right now?
- 46:45Speaker 2: Are you talking multiple times during the day? Do you
- 46:48Speaker 2: have check in meetings? How does that work?
- 46:51Speaker 15: Well, we've all kind of been going separate ways here
- 46:54Speaker 15: a little bit with the pro days and they go out.
- 46:56Speaker 15: You know, obviously our scouting department is out of pain.
- 47:00Speaker 15: Everybody will be back in really looking forward to you
- 47:05Speaker 15: know next week when when those draft beatings start and
- 47:08Speaker 15: what that process looks like with our coaching staff, you know,
- 47:12Speaker 15: going through the players that they were asked to look at,
- 47:15Speaker 15: to evaluate, to zoom interview and to meet with to
- 47:20Speaker 15: see where that lies the connection and you know, their
- 47:23Speaker 15: willingness to want to add that particular player or his
- 47:26Speaker 15: personality to our football team.
- 47:29Speaker 1: And then then we'll quickly.
- 47:31Speaker 15: Transition onto you know, me and Stretch and Elliott and
- 47:35Speaker 15: Ryan and the entire personnel department and kind of work
- 47:39Speaker 15: through each player position by position.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Paul wants to know if you took some ib and
- 47:44Speaker 2: then still hosting some of the thirty visits. Sorry, Paull
- 47:47Speaker 2: wants to know if you took some ibuprofen after your
- 47:49Speaker 2: visit to Arizona State.
- 47:53Speaker 15: I mean, I usually wake up the same every day,
- 47:55Speaker 15: pretty sore, So Mike, I didn't want to ask you
- 47:58Speaker 15: about that.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I feel the same way. You know.
- 48:01Speaker 9: You know that that video got a lot of play
- 48:03Speaker 9: over the weekend with with Max. I think is I'm
- 48:06Speaker 9: going to try this as he Hennachu and I think
- 48:09Speaker 9: I'm getting that at.
- 48:10Speaker 3: Least close Max. I'm gonna go with Max.
- 48:15Speaker 9: You did the same thing, you know a lot of
- 48:16Speaker 9: that stuff with Will and I just I'm curious to.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Know I've done that. Guys, I've done that.
- 48:22Speaker 9: I've gone to and that's why I wanted to ask you,
- 48:24Speaker 9: what do you what do you think you you learned
- 48:27Speaker 9: from that? You know, just why why do you feel
- 48:29Speaker 9: like that's important to sort of, you know, get a
- 48:31Speaker 9: little bit of more of a physical workout.
- 48:35Speaker 15: You've done talking Paul, Can I have finish?
- 48:40Speaker 3: You can wipe the smirkuffee face. That's okay.
- 48:44Speaker 15: I enjoyed doing it because I think when I do
- 48:47Speaker 15: it with our players, I have an understanding an idea
- 48:49Speaker 15: of what each guy at the position, you know, looks like,
- 48:53Speaker 15: feels like, you know, reacts to to certain movements, especially
- 48:57Speaker 15: at the line of scrimmage. You know, guys some guys
- 49:01Speaker 15: have heavy hands, some guys you know, their contact balance,
- 49:07Speaker 15: their core strength, you know, all those things at the
- 49:09Speaker 15: at the line of scrimmage that are critical, you know,
- 49:13Speaker 15: and so those are things that we always try to do.
- 49:15Speaker 15: I would say that some positions are better for that
- 49:18Speaker 15: than others. Yeah, and yeah, you know, normally when I
- 49:23Speaker 15: go out to the Pro Day, I try to be engaged,
- 49:25Speaker 15: in active and try to learn something from all the
- 49:27Speaker 15: players that are there in the different positions.
- 49:31Speaker 4: So when you come back, you probably haven't had time
- 49:35Speaker 4: to spend any time yet, but you're going to be
- 49:37Speaker 4: in your new building.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Are you looking forward to that?
- 49:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it is.
- 49:41Speaker 15: It's amazing, you know what I mean. And I want
- 49:43Speaker 15: to thank Robert and Jonathan obviously for their committed success
- 49:50Speaker 15: and providing us with the resources that we need to
- 49:53Speaker 15: to continue to grow, to continue to win, and continue
- 49:56Speaker 15: to enhance what we do. With that being said, though,
- 49:59Speaker 15: there's so many people that that helped us get in there.
- 50:03Speaker 1: You know, the building group.
- 50:05Speaker 15: And you know Woodie and Dan and Gail and obviously
- 50:08Speaker 15: Stretch and Jonathan working closely together with them. You know,
- 50:12Speaker 15: just the operations and everything that we were able to
- 50:15Speaker 15: do to get over there in a short amount of time.
- 50:18Speaker 15: This vision became real uh in less than a year,
- 50:22Speaker 15: and then be able to get in there on Monday.
- 50:25Speaker 15: You know, it's just exciting to see everything that's new
- 50:29Speaker 15: and that when the players come back, how excited they're
- 50:31Speaker 15: going to be. There's been a few that have come
- 50:33Speaker 15: in that we've been able to see and they're certainly
- 50:36Speaker 15: amazed at what it's like.
- 50:38Speaker 1: And yeah, you know, have a great.
- 50:39Speaker 15: Environment to train our players, to meet with our players,
- 50:42Speaker 15: to UH to build strong connections with our players.
- 50:45Speaker 2: What do you think is the the biggest or the
- 50:49Speaker 2: coolest thing about it, so that you've.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Seen, man the coolest.
- 51:01Speaker 15: I mean, I certainly think that the ability to you know,
- 51:06Speaker 15: walk out of a meeting room and be in a
- 51:08Speaker 15: mobile classroom, to be able to extend the meeting, you know,
- 51:12Speaker 15: out to a large screen format to stimulate the players,
- 51:17Speaker 15: and that capacity is something that that's you know, a
- 51:20Speaker 15: lot of teams have I just don't know if they
- 51:22Speaker 15: have it outside the media. When we walk out of
- 51:24Speaker 15: door and you know there are players are.
- 51:29Speaker 1: You know, just the.
- 51:30Speaker 15: Overall the size and the ease and the comfort and
- 51:32Speaker 15: the way that it flows from the training room, the
- 51:34Speaker 15: locker room to the training room, the weight room, the
- 51:37Speaker 15: way that they all those tie together. There's no real
- 51:41Speaker 15: gimmicks over there. It's it's just a lot of functionality.
- 51:45Speaker 16: It's it's a great space. Yeah, you guys all set
- 51:48Speaker 16: ye look forward to having you guys over. I know
- 51:50Speaker 16: we want to have you guys over and have everybody
- 51:52Speaker 16: see but you know, just tell everybody to remain patient.
- 51:55Speaker 16: You know, there's a lot of punch lists and again,
- 51:57Speaker 16: if it affects the players, we want to fix it first.
- 52:00Speaker 1: If it you know, well we're going to get to everything.
- 52:03Speaker 15: We have a long time before training camp, and so
- 52:06Speaker 15: there's gonna be little things to fix, and sometimes there's
- 52:09Speaker 15: going to be some larger items, but everybody's gonna stay
- 52:11Speaker 15: patient and and help us get through this.
- 52:13Speaker 2: All right, Well, coach, go ahead.
- 52:15Speaker 9: I had one one last thing real quick. I know
- 52:17Speaker 9: I talk a lot, and what have you got? I
- 52:19Speaker 9: just saw Nick Sirianna mentioned, Uh, Nick Sirianni, you had
- 52:23Speaker 9: mentioned the possibility of you guys getting together this summer,
- 52:27Speaker 9: you know, for joint practices. Is that something you are
- 52:29Speaker 9: ready to talk about or is that still.
- 52:31Speaker 15: Something that we would we we want to continue to
- 52:33Speaker 15: look at and uh, you know, obviously the league has
- 52:37Speaker 15: to do their part and allow us to uh to
- 52:40Speaker 15: be scheduled, you know, at that point in time. But
- 52:43Speaker 15: I think that uh, you know, that's a football team
- 52:46Speaker 15: that's had a lot of proven success and would would
- 52:49Speaker 15: love the opportunity to practice against them and watch them work.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Yep.
- 52:53Speaker 2: All right, well, coach, we really appreciate you taking the time.
- 52:56Speaker 2: We'll see and when you get back.
- 52:59Speaker 3: And now, great moments in.
- 53:03Speaker 8: History, Well, it used to be a gold long time ago,
- 53:06Speaker 8: the golden goal. Yeah, but then they decided, like the
- 53:09Speaker 8: NFL to make it fair. Let both teams have possession,
- 53:12Speaker 8: the equivalent thereof letting.
- 53:14Speaker 3: No, no, no, I mean everybody has the same chance to
- 53:16Speaker 3: get the ball, right.
- 53:16Speaker 8: No, no, you didn't let me finish, I said, the equivalent
- 53:20Speaker 8: of letting both teams have possession in the in the soccer.
- 53:23Speaker 1: World, it's not.
- 53:24Speaker 3: I don't think it's not the equivalent.
- 53:26Speaker 10: Okay, it isn't.
- 53:27Speaker 3: I'm glad Fred agrees with me, because that's the non soccer.
- 53:29Speaker 3: It doesn't make any sense to me.
- 53:31Speaker 8: A golden goal was the equivalent of the old days
- 53:34Speaker 8: in the NFL, where the first team that scored one.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Right, But football is a different sport. It's not.
- 53:38Speaker 9: Well, only one team had the ball, only one team
- 53:41Speaker 9: could score.
- 53:41Speaker 2: It's not a soccer.
- 53:42Speaker 9: Both teams have the same chance.
- 53:44Speaker 8: To have the ball, right, You can possess the ball, yes,
- 53:46Speaker 8: but they wanted to just let there be a you know,
- 53:50Speaker 8: a set amount of time for them to.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Play the X.
- 53:52Speaker 3: Well, they don't do that in the NFL.
- 53:54Speaker 2: That's fine.
- 53:54Speaker 3: They don't play a set amount of time.
- 53:56Speaker 8: No, but they do have a ten minute you know,
- 53:58Speaker 8: if you don't after ten minutes, call it a tie, right,
- 54:01Speaker 8: But it does in this case. You couldn't have a
- 54:02Speaker 8: tie because it's a playoff.
- 54:03Speaker 2: It's not the same, arig. I do know what you're
- 54:05Speaker 2: trying to say.
- 54:05Speaker 9: But in soccer, no matter what equivalent what it was
- 54:09Speaker 9: just saying, I want to already arguing now I want
- 54:14Speaker 9: to look up the same in equivalents.
- 54:15Speaker 8: But anyway, anyway, what if I walked into Revolution unfiltered
- 54:20Speaker 8: where that's another great moment?

- 55:01Speaker 6: Hey, Hey, can I give a quick shout out to
- 55:03Speaker 6: our co host Meghan O'Brien which finally she qualified for
- 55:08Speaker 6: the US Olympic Trials in a marathon.
- 55:11Speaker 10: Really, she did. I just saw on social media. I
- 55:13Speaker 10: think it was last night.
- 55:14Speaker 1: What not doing?
- 55:16Speaker 10: It was?
- 55:16Speaker 6: She wrote a whole story on Instagram. Go check it out.
- 55:18Speaker 6: I think it's Meg Moran.
- 55:19Speaker 10: WW.
- 55:20Speaker 6: But said, you know, I thought my career was kind
- 55:22Speaker 6: of over and then she just had a baby, and
- 55:24Speaker 6: so she's made the qualify.
- 55:26Speaker 3: I mean, she knows she's going to get a chance
- 55:27Speaker 3: to run great yeah one time.
- 55:30Speaker 5: Los Angeles, LA Olympics.
- 55:33Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it would be yeah, yeah, So good
- 55:35Speaker 6: luck Meghan. I mean I remember when I first started
- 55:38Speaker 6: here and she was just kind of starting to run
- 55:39Speaker 6: marathons and she'd like, I think wanted to break four.
- 55:42Speaker 5: Hours, four hours as usually.
- 55:44Speaker 2: I think that was what it was.
- 55:45Speaker 10: Yeah, she's run a few, So congratulates Meghan.
- 55:48Speaker 3: Wow, that's pretty cool, especially.
- 55:49Speaker 10: Had a baby like six months ago.
- 55:51Speaker 2: But she's going to be going up against like the
- 55:53Speaker 2: elite athlete.
- 55:54Speaker 9: I mean she looks like, what it is you need
- 55:57Speaker 9: to qualify for a time, right, you know, and so
- 56:01Speaker 9: like you either have that time or you don't.
- 56:02Speaker 3: And that's no joke. Yeah, if she qualified, then.
- 56:05Speaker 6: Nobody looks more conscious running in my whole life than her.
- 56:08Speaker 10: Like she just glides and like.
- 56:10Speaker 6: I mean, she's got those like long legs, and it's
- 56:12Speaker 6: like like when I'm running, it's like every step is
- 56:15Speaker 6: like yeah, she just like floating over there.
- 56:17Speaker 5: Have you ever seen Julia run college? These are college
- 56:21Speaker 5: runers right second. It's like this is unfair to fast slow.
- 56:25Speaker 9: Down because it's very similar to what Jude describe Julia
- 56:28Speaker 9: the same thing.
- 56:29Speaker 3: She just like glides yes, impressed runners, Yeah me all right?
- 56:34Speaker 2: Eight five five past five hundred is the Hotline podcast
- 56:37Speaker 2: at Patriots dot com. Is the email address. Uh, let's
- 56:41Speaker 2: go to the phones. We'll start with who will.
- 56:45Speaker 4: We start with? So many to choose from, Anthony and Seattle.
- 56:48Speaker 4: What's up, Anthony?
- 56:50Speaker 17: Hey, what's up people? How you guys doing?
- 56:52Speaker 2: Okay?
- 56:54Speaker 17: Hey, so sorry to know a little off today's topic,
- 56:58Speaker 17: but something I've been thinking about it once you got
- 57:00Speaker 17: to ponder on. So I haven't talked to you guys
- 57:02Speaker 17: since since they cut digs, And you know, I gotta say, man,
- 57:08Speaker 17: the player we got versus the reputation that he had
- 57:12Speaker 17: coming in, I just I was blown away, and yeah,
- 57:16Speaker 17: thirty nine years old, I'm maybe a little embarrassed to
- 57:18Speaker 17: admit how attached I became to him and how truly
- 57:22Speaker 17: heartbroken I was by his release, but I'm saying that
- 57:25Speaker 17: to say this, so you know, now that they ripped
- 57:28Speaker 17: the band aid off with him, I'm not really overly
- 57:31Speaker 17: attached really to anybody in that room now, and so
- 57:34Speaker 17: I'm okay if they kind of want to start turning
- 57:36Speaker 17: over turning over that wide receiver room. And you know,
- 57:40Speaker 17: you guys have talked about some of the wide receiver prospects,
- 57:43Speaker 17: you know, Concepcion, so it's unlikely that he drops or
- 57:46Speaker 17: you know, Evan got me excited about Brazil or you know,
- 57:51Speaker 17: the one guy I don't know his dama on top
- 57:52Speaker 17: of the head, but I'm sure Evan knows what I'm
- 57:53Speaker 17: talking about, the guy who had the injury, but he
- 57:55Speaker 17: would have probably been the top receiver in the drought,
- 57:58Speaker 17: you know that guy. So you know, and then you
- 58:01Speaker 17: guys kind of talks a little bit about you know,
- 58:02Speaker 17: there being some of the duplicate skill sets in that
- 58:05Speaker 17: room or something like that, or kind of Evan and
- 58:08Speaker 17: Alex they talked about kind of splitting the difference if
- 58:11Speaker 17: you got the aj Brown trade in the worst. But
- 58:13Speaker 17: I feel like those you know, wrapped in a young
- 58:16Speaker 17: talented receiver. If the opportunity presents itself to get one
- 58:20Speaker 17: of those guys like Bradsl's there at sixty three or
- 58:22Speaker 17: something like that, or doing the AJ Brown trade. I
- 58:25Speaker 17: don't think those should be mutually exclusive. I would love
- 58:27Speaker 17: for them to if they can get one of these guys.
- 58:29Speaker 17: If it's concepts, you don't get them, and then go
- 58:32Speaker 17: through it to AJ Brown trade. Maybe Booty is as
- 58:34Speaker 17: part of that trade, so he goes there. So you
- 58:36Speaker 17: don't got eight, maybe you got seven now, and then
- 58:38Speaker 17: you got seven guys competing for six spots. I love
- 58:41Speaker 17: Pop Douglas, but if Chisholm beats them out, so be it.
- 58:44Speaker 17: You got such a high talented receiver room that maybe
- 58:48Speaker 17: you're gonna have to part ways with a really good
- 58:51Speaker 17: player because everybody else is that good. I just want
- 58:53Speaker 17: to know what you guys think about that, listen.
- 58:55Speaker 2: I'm all for getting the best players.
- 58:57Speaker 5: I just think you're starting to. Thanks Anthony, put a lot,
- 59:00Speaker 5: a lot of resources into one spot, and now you
- 59:04Speaker 5: have a lot of bodies, and maybe we can argue
- 59:06Speaker 5: the semantics of bodies versus players and all that kind
- 59:09Speaker 5: of stuff. But if you draft somebody with a high
- 59:12Speaker 5: draft pick and you trade a high draft pick for
- 59:14Speaker 5: AJ Brown and then you also just used a third
- 59:17Speaker 5: round pick on Kyle Williams. Like, that's I think we're
- 59:20Speaker 5: going to get up to eight guys on the team
- 59:23Speaker 5: for six spots, you know that have a legitimate shot
- 59:28Speaker 5: of making the roster. Now, if you trade for AJ
- 59:30Speaker 5: Brown and a receiver goes in the trade and you
- 59:34Speaker 5: give Kayshawn Booty to Philly, then you know that might
- 59:39Speaker 5: make it a little bit more palpable. I just I
- 59:42Speaker 5: think once you now, so we're draft, we're basically using
- 59:45Speaker 5: back to back let's call him top sixty five sixty
- 59:49Speaker 5: four picks on wide receivers. If you draft one now
- 59:52Speaker 5: and then trade one a pick for AJ Brown, it's
- 59:55Speaker 5: a lot still.
- 59:57Speaker 6: Just try to point out the only receivers you have
- 59:59Speaker 6: under contract now your Dobbs, Williams and Chisholm. So you
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: know there's got to be some kind of consideration for
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: the guys you have. If you see long term futures
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: with a guy like Kishan Boudi, you want to sign
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: him up. Rabel spoke highie of Douglas today, pumping him up.
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: Is he going to start to click in this offense?
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: You know we know, we like Collins, he kind of
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: has a role, But I don't know, I don't I
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: wouldn't totally totally dismiss it.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: What did you think of Rabel flat out saying you
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: don't draft or need Yeah.
- 1:00:27Speaker 9: If you continue to listen to that answer, it was
- 1:00:31Speaker 9: more like you never want to be in that.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Position, in that position, okay, yeah, right, Yeah.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: That's kind of what he said.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: He did.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I think most people would agree.
- 1:00:42Speaker 9: You don't want to ever be backed into a corner
- 1:00:44Speaker 9: where you're taking a lesser player because of it's a
- 1:00:46Speaker 9: position that you have to fill.
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: Yeah, but I feel like they're a little bit there
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: with edge. I mean, I think there it's a little
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: bit of a need that you kind of have to draft,
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: and it works out because.
- 1:00:54Speaker 10: There are a lot of good players, But it's.
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: Still going to be a little distressing if you get
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: to thirty one and maybe the couple guys you really
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: like aren't quite there, or maybe it's a little too
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: rich for somebody a little bit lower that it's going
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: to be a hard decision to say, this is we
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: really need to add a dude here. We don't love
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: Zion Young as a pass rusher. We think he's a solid,
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: you know, edge player, but not going to bring the
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: juice that we need.
- 1:01:17Speaker 10: Like, I think there's gonna be some real questions for
- 1:01:19Speaker 10: that gets made.
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: That's where I feel like you double dip, like to me,
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: because you know Landry Jones Swinson ponders kind of your
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: room right now, yep, and you know who knows you.
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: He gave it a little bit of an answer about
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: Landry's status that didn't sound particularly great to be honest,
- 1:01:38Speaker 5: Like he still sounds like he's in a rehab phase
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: right now with his knee injury. So you have that
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: going on, you know, if you double dip at that
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: position and maybe you draft the guy that is a
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: little bit more of a stout edge center and then
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: you also draft a guy that's a little bit of
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: just a pure pass rusher, kind of like what they
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: tried to do with and Anthony Jennings, which I think
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: kind of worked doubt. I mean, you know, j probably
- 1:02:01Speaker 5: didn't pan out quite as much as your top and ANTHONYW.
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: Jennings was a solid player for you for a little
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: while here. Now that you could maybe get two guys
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: that because it's such a deep class that both have
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: upside that are both a little bit different so that
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: you can kind of see what sticks.
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: I just let to know what they really think of
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: Elijah Ponder and Braden Swinson like that, you know, just
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: is there something there?
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: I mean, especially Ponder Swinson. We didn't see anything on it.
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: I felt like Ponder got his opportunities last year. Is
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: he going to continue to just be a rotational player
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: or do they have a real confidence or hope that
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: he could emerge as an every down kind of a guy.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: Todd's in North Carolina. I hate Todd.
- 1:02:39Speaker 7: Hey, guys, I just want to thank you for the
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: off season shows. And that interview with Rapes was just amazing.
- 1:02:45Speaker 7: I really appreciate that content.
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: That was great.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: Wow, and thank you amazing.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:02:50Speaker 7: And the the Foxborough final number four really good. Watched
- 1:02:55Speaker 7: the whole thing, really enjoyed it.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: Great.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Now, thank you for that too.
- 1:02:58Speaker 7: Pretty quickly, well, thank yourselves, you did it. I got
- 1:03:02Speaker 7: three quick questions. Number One, you guys see Diggs back
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: in any way, not even necessarily as receiver, just to
- 1:03:08Speaker 7: have him in the room. Number Two, is Josh the
- 1:03:11Speaker 7: right guy for me? Josh McDaniels. They disappeared their offense
- 1:03:16Speaker 7: in the playoffs, and I know we went up against
- 1:03:18Speaker 7: a lot of tough defenses, but we just looked like
- 1:03:21Speaker 7: we were at a thing.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: So I'm not.
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: Sure if it was just the late in the seasons
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: of injuries or what, but is there, you know, maybe
- 1:03:28Speaker 7: a little bit of an issue there. And the final one,
- 1:03:31Speaker 7: does Evan know anything that we don't because he in
- 1:03:34Speaker 7: his mock draft, which was a good showed as well,
- 1:03:37Speaker 7: said that we were getting a J. Brown or that
- 1:03:39Speaker 7: was and.
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: I didn't say we're getting at the Peah.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: He didn't say that. You said you based the mock
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: assuming yes, that they were.
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: Right, assuming where I said, I have no information that
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: they are getting a J. Brown.
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: But how much different would your mock have ben if
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: was based on them not getting him?
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: Pretty significant, which will be the second one will be
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: not AJ Brown, mockecret But I mean they have to
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: take a receiver I think in the top one hundred
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: if they're not going to trade for a J. Brown,
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: So that would change a lot. I think with the
- 1:04:17Speaker 5: mock draft thing, you know the way that it came out.
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: You know, they're up on Patriots dot com for those
- 1:04:22Speaker 5: that want to reduce and my mock draft. But it's
- 1:04:25Speaker 5: just the tackle thing. Like there's just not a lot
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: of good tackles in this draft, and there's not a
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: lot of guys that project, as you know, early career starters.
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: So if Morgan Moses gets hurt, if Morgan Moses for
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: retires at the end of next year, I know there
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: are some people, not me, but some people that remain
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: skeptical will Campbell being a long term tackle. So like there,
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: if you want tackle depth and if you want a
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: guy that can plug and play and actually start early
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: on in his rookie contract, I just don't know where
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: that comes from. If you don't use the thirty first
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: pick now, if you want the punt on tackle and
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: say we'll take care of that if it becomes a
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: problem next year, that's a fair argument. But if the
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: idea this year is to get a successor here for
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: Morgan Moses, I think you have a tough time doing
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: that unless you go early.
- 1:05:16Speaker 10: It's gonna be hard for you. If Blake Miller sitting
- 1:05:18Speaker 10: there at thirty one, like you know, we.
- 1:05:19Speaker 6: Always talk about guys fall through the cracks, and maybe
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: he's the kind of guy that, yeah, you know, ends.
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: Up like I feel like Janitor probably will be the
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: one that falls because of the inexperience with.
- 1:05:27Speaker 10: That name right off, like he didn't even think about it.
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: I've said it like a hundred times. I think that
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: he would probably be the one that would fall because
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: of the inexperience. And you know, he's pretty raw. Really
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: didn't play high school football obviously, coming over from Nigeria,
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: and then he goes to Juco for a year to
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: work on it, and then he goes to Arizona State.
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: So he's really only played football for five years of
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: his whole life. So I think that there's a lot
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: of development that needs to be done there. Blake Miller
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: is he's going to start for somebody your one day one,
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: but I think Ianito is gonna be a little bit
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: more of a development.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: Justin's in Arizona.
- 1:06:06Speaker 17: Hey, Justin, Hey boy, Jess from Portland now in Arizona.
- 1:06:13Speaker 17: How you doing, my man?
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: Good your boy?
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: Justin?
- 1:06:17Speaker 18: Yeah, this is just from Portland.
- 1:06:19Speaker 11: I'm now a Scott Sales.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: Oh Chester, Chester, it said Justin on the calls, Hi, Chester,
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: what's up? What you're an accuts?
- 1:06:28Speaker 9: Sound like yourself at the bottom of a well.
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: Yeah, your phone sucks.
- 1:06:34Speaker 18: I hope everybody's doing good.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: It's a little better funny.
- 1:06:39Speaker 18: I just wanted to to give a call. I finally
- 1:06:41Speaker 18: got around to seeing Forge and Foxborough number four. Oh
- 1:06:44Speaker 18: my god, it was so good. And I know we
- 1:06:47Speaker 18: had a lot of guarded optimism are going into the
- 1:06:49Speaker 18: playoffs and you know, kind of playing with house money,
- 1:06:52Speaker 18: so to speak, with this team just overachieving. But man,
- 1:06:55Speaker 18: that documentary really really explained a lot of the housing
- 1:06:58Speaker 18: wise behind you know, how things shook out at the
- 1:07:01Speaker 18: end of the year. It was some some awesome closure
- 1:07:04Speaker 18: for you know, a lot of US fans that you
- 1:07:05Speaker 18: know left the Super Bowl disappointed and just left me
- 1:07:08Speaker 18: with a ton of optivism for next year.
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: Yeah, great stuff.
- 1:07:12Speaker 18: Loving Arizona. You know, I'm out here scouting the tight
- 1:07:15Speaker 18: ends poolside, trying to do rable a little help here,
- 1:07:18Speaker 18: and man, a lot of talent in Arizona, I can
- 1:07:20Speaker 18: tell you that. But yeah, I wanted to just talk
- 1:07:24Speaker 18: real quickly. I do think that tight End is is
- 1:07:27Speaker 18: a is a big thing under the radar right now,
- 1:07:30Speaker 18: and I'm wondering what it's what it would take to
- 1:07:32Speaker 18: trade up for a guy like Sadik, if that's even
- 1:07:34Speaker 18: a possibility. Or you know, who would be remaining that
- 1:07:37Speaker 18: you know, top end of the first round, and then
- 1:07:40Speaker 18: the secondary. I think we you know, looking for a
- 1:07:43Speaker 18: depth corner is another need, and a and a passing
- 1:07:47Speaker 18: running back, a receiving running back. I think that that's
- 1:07:49Speaker 18: another thing that would be a nice release valve to
- 1:07:52Speaker 18: try to take some of that pressure away if we
- 1:07:54Speaker 18: can't get the offensive line a notch above what we
- 1:07:57Speaker 18: saw last year. But those are kind of my thoughts
- 1:07:59Speaker 18: going into the draft. More anything, I just want to
- 1:08:02Speaker 18: check in give you guys a shout again on Forge'
- 1:08:04Speaker 18: box bro. Just excellent work there and by apparel.
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: All right, thanks Chester, good to hear from you. Where's
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: that tight end he's talking about. Projected to be top twenty,
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: top twenty.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: Yeah, the first round.
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: It depends on, you know, his receiving stats at Oregon
- 1:08:24Speaker 5: don't blow you away, you know, but his traits do.
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: So it would be a little bit of a risk
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: in terms of you know, production in college to the pros.
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: But I know, Deuce, is this just give me the
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: eyes over there. I know, I know you want the
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: I mean.
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: I would be open.
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: I mean we've talked about this, but I just I
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: think it's easy avenue.
- 1:08:43Speaker 10: Yeah, you want him.
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: I kind of like him, I think, I think I
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: I'm surprised.
- 1:08:47Speaker 10: I just think that's an easy insertion upgrade.
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: Kind of a player, you know, where it's not a
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: lot of pressure on him to come in and do
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: everything but that you know, maybe somewhat like Hernandez in
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: twenty ten when Gronk you know, took a little bit
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: of time. You know, it just seemed like goes more
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: Hernandez right out of the gate. Maybe he's got the intelligence.
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: I mean, it's just the traits are so appealing into
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: great player.
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: I'm just surprised that you'd want to trade up.
- 1:09:10Speaker 10: Talked about it a couple of times, Yeah.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: Okay, Yeah, it's an interesting player because you know, you
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: are betting on upside and betting on potential a little bit.
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: You know that Oregon offense always has some weird outliers
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: like that, but for the most part, you're you're betting
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: on his athletic profile translating to even more receiving production
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: in the NFL. I mean, the depth of the tight
- 1:09:33Speaker 5: end class. Frable has been talking about it since February
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: is I mean, I've I've probably could go twenty deep
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: on the title, it's it's going to be a lot
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: of draftable tight ends in this class.
- 1:09:45Speaker 10: True, making the pro athletes.
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: Yeah, what is this pro athlete community thing?
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:09:50Speaker 9: It started off with the mccordy's. They were the first
- 1:09:52Speaker 9: two that were talking about.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: Down there, the new thing that they started.
- 1:09:56Speaker 5: He's there in Arizona line.
- 1:09:58Speaker 10: I saw him take a sip.
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: I thought it was one, But you know, it goes
- 1:10:01Speaker 6: back to me and I think we have this conversation
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: every year. I think we've even asked Elliot Wolf about it.
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: It's just when there's a stacked class, do you say, oh, great,
- 1:10:09Speaker 6: there's twenty guys and we kind of like some of them,
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: or do you say I want the best of those guys.
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: And I mean, I guess where my head starting to
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: come is like how many do you really like? Like, yeah,
- 1:10:19Speaker 6: they are twenty guys, but I'm sure that there are
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: colors and flavors that, you know, you like a little
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: bit more of this shade and a little bit more.
- 1:10:24Speaker 10: Of that style. So it's great to say that it's
- 1:10:27Speaker 10: a huge class.
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: I just I still struggle though, to say, but I
- 1:10:30Speaker 6: only like these three guys.
- 1:10:32Speaker 9: Right, scouts would say, you know, there's twenty guys. Individual
- 1:10:37Speaker 9: NFL teams don't think there's twenty guys to your point.
- 1:10:40Speaker 9: So yeah, and if you think that there's a guy
- 1:10:43Speaker 9: that you feel comfortable with that will be available by
- 1:10:45Speaker 9: all means, you wait now. I would find it hard
- 1:10:49Speaker 9: to believe with a class that this kind of depth
- 1:10:52Speaker 9: that you'd want to move significantly up to get the
- 1:10:56Speaker 9: best because there are good players. But I understand you, Mike,
- 1:11:00Speaker 9: and it's a good one. Belichick used to talk about
- 1:11:02Speaker 9: it all the time. Just because someone views a position
- 1:11:08Speaker 9: or two deeper or thinner than others doesn't mean that
- 1:11:13Speaker 9: that's the way that all the teams look at it.
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: So this is a good edge class, it's a good
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: tight end class.
- 1:11:19Speaker 9: Everybody seems to you, guys all are in agreement with
- 1:11:21Speaker 9: all of the the flavors.
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: Thing is the toughest part is like, and he talked
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: about it today, like, do you want more receiving upside?
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: Do you want more blocking upside? Do you want well roundedness?
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: Where Like, it's not great at any one thing, but
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: he can kind of do a little bit of everything.
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: That I think is what makes this hard at both
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: pass catcher positions in this draft receiver and tight end. Yeah,
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: because there's a lot of names and some of them
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: are going to be good and some of them aren't.
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: And so like sifting through it and stacking the board
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: in a year like this at those two positions is
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: not easy because you're betting on certain individual traits and
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: everybody's at their warts. And you know, Eli Stores is
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: a great receiver, but he can't block. And you know
- 1:12:05Speaker 5: Sam Rouch is a good blocker, but he's a little
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: rows of receivers. Kind of athletically, he should be able
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: to do it, right.
- 1:12:11Speaker 10: Yeah, I just I don't know.
- 1:12:13Speaker 6: I look more and more of these guys, and it's
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: like you said, it's more often than not with the
- 1:12:17Speaker 6: tight ends, it's not a lot of production. You know,
- 1:12:20Speaker 6: maybe they're more receivers like and I really like that
- 1:12:22Speaker 6: Max clare kid from Ohio State too, who you know, not.
- 1:12:24Speaker 10: A blocker but an athletic guy. Looks really athletic to me.
- 1:12:28Speaker 6: But we just keep having these debates and at the
- 1:12:30Speaker 6: end of the day, I feel like, like I think of
- 1:12:31Speaker 6: the twenty nineteen receiving class and you know, at the time,
- 1:12:35Speaker 6: they were like, you know, you got aj Brown, you
- 1:12:36Speaker 6: got Debo, you got Nikhil Harry, Like, this is a
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: really good class. And now here we are six years later,
- 1:12:41Speaker 6: and you know that it doesn't work out. Like some
- 1:12:43Speaker 6: of those guys certainly had periods of time where.
- 1:12:45Speaker 10: They're really good.
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: Some are still really good, others are out of the league,
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: you know, So how do you find the guys.
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: That separates men from the boys this time of year?
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: Nick in Boston writes in Phil Perry recently said on
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: Twitter that Maxenecorp is twenty two years old.
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: However, around the combine, I was most seeing reports saying
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: he's twenty four to twenty five. I don't understand why
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: it's so hard to correct ages for prospects, but since
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: his technique is very raw, I see him as a
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: totally different prospect if he's twenty two verse twenty four.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: Any idea how old he actually is?
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: Twenty two? Yeah, he's twenty two. I think this one
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: got complicated because he wasn't born in the United States.
- 1:13:20Speaker 9: It happens a lot with guys that aren't bon Yeah,
- 1:13:23Speaker 9: it happens for in baseball, you know, the Latin American
- 1:13:26Speaker 9: players often have different ages. Usually X equals seven. You
- 1:13:31Speaker 9: can add seven to any any guy who comes over.
- 1:13:34Speaker 9: But that's where the confusion would call.
- 1:13:36Speaker 6: Well, have you talked about the Brugler Like Brugler somehow
- 1:13:39Speaker 6: tracks down.
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: We had a caller that called in to catch twenty
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: two early on in February. I want to say that
- 1:13:44Speaker 5: said that he was twenty five, and it didn't. It
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: didn't pass the sniff test with me. I was like,
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: that doesn't feel right, Like I feel like I would
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: have heard that if because if he was that old.
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: And so I actually texted Dane and he told me
- 1:13:58Speaker 5: that he's being told he's twenty two and he's putting
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: twenty two in the beast. So I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: trust him there.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: How about all the baseball players losing height because.
- 1:14:09Speaker 9: The couple gained a couple which was which was funny.
- 1:14:14Speaker 9: That's we don't need to go into that. But that's
- 1:14:16Speaker 9: my biggest issue with the whole thing. What is the
- 1:14:20Speaker 9: strike zone has changed?
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: Like you's not three dimensional now?
- 1:14:23Speaker 9: Well not only you're asking the umpire, like the umpires
- 1:14:27Speaker 9: are now taking a strike zone that they've used for
- 1:14:29Speaker 9: their whole career and they have to change it.
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: Well, that's why they're missing. So many cops.
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: Here's what's interesting is, I guess originally in the minor
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: leagues they did test this with a three dimensional strike
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: zone and the results were like really not expected by
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: the players in the ump and every like, wow, I
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: didn't know that was a strike, and so probably they've
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: been calling it wrong all this time, you know, But
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: I listen.
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: Just my opinion, I've said it before.
- 1:14:59Speaker 10: Go all out.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: It should be abs every but every pitch.
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: That's gonna come. I just don't like.
- 1:15:06Speaker 9: I just don't like watching it because I see pitches
- 1:15:09Speaker 9: that are now called balls and strikes that in my
- 1:15:12Speaker 9: view aren't because it's not in that box. Like, I
- 1:15:15Speaker 9: don't think you can take one that is at the
- 1:15:18Speaker 9: very top and corner on the outside corner to a
- 1:15:22Speaker 9: right handed batter and one that's at the very bottom
- 1:15:24Speaker 9: inside corner and both of those pitches be a strike.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: Is it break the plane or not?
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of pitches that break the plane
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: that aren't strikes.
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: Then the play then change the plane.
- 1:15:34Speaker 9: I'm just saying, I'm just watching games. I can just
- 1:15:37Speaker 9: look at it. There's different pitches that are being called
- 1:15:39Speaker 9: spikes that are from that box that some of them
- 1:15:41Speaker 9: are strikes, and some of them aren't. Like you can look,
- 1:15:44Speaker 9: you can watch, you can tell by the batter and
- 1:15:47Speaker 9: all that. I don't think the robot has it. I
- 1:15:49Speaker 9: don't think. I don't think that's the way the game
- 1:15:51Speaker 9: is meant to be fixable. I don't think that's the
- 1:15:54Speaker 9: way the game is meant to be played.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: Was tennis supposed to have all these line people, that's
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: the way they did it. But now it's so much better.
- 1:16:00Speaker 9: But that's that's to me. That's different because there's there
- 1:16:04Speaker 9: is a line there, there's no lot, Like, it's not
- 1:16:06Speaker 9: the same for every batter. The lines that are the
- 1:16:08Speaker 9: same as a virtual line, and it doesn't matter if
- 1:16:10Speaker 9: it's Michael Chang at five ten or Boris Becker at
- 1:16:13Speaker 9: six four, right, Like the lines are the same.
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: They're not. That's why these guys get measured the line.
- 1:16:19Speaker 9: The lines on the tennis court are the same. Oh right, Yeah,
- 1:16:21Speaker 9: it's not a universal strike zone for everybody's that's correct, same, right,
- 1:16:26Speaker 9: Like your batting stance can be different, your size can
- 1:16:28Speaker 9: be like there's a lot of different.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: Vertical can be different, horizontal is the same.
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: And I just I don't know, I don't like it.
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: So far.
- 1:16:36Speaker 9: I'm sure that they'll work out the bugs, you know,
- 1:16:39Speaker 9: I think teams and the umpires both are getting used
- 1:16:43Speaker 9: to it.
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: It'll it'll be better.
- 1:16:45Speaker 9: But my initial reaction is it's not really adding my
- 1:16:49Speaker 9: enjoyment to the game.
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: I think it's interesting. The strategy of it is interesting
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: of when to use the challenges and which counts to
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: use the challenges, because I usually think it would be
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: like ball four, strike three, but like the one two
- 1:17:01Speaker 5: to two one count I guess is like a huge
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: if you look at the numbers, Like the difference in
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: on base percentage is massive if you're in a two
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: to one count vers time.
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: On the time of the game is the big thing
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: for the Red Sox.
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: They wasted them, Anthony, But I I kind of agree
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: with you, I think, Paul in the sense that like
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: there's these ones that it's like a centimeter off the
- 1:17:22Speaker 5: plate and it's like this is for like egregious, like
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: this was like six inches off.
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: It's like everything else that relay is ruined.
- 1:17:29Speaker 9: It's supposed to be correcting the obvious mistakes and now
- 1:17:33Speaker 9: we're getting this.
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: But now we can get exact I don't think like
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: the close enough the pitch in the WBC that they
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: called a strike that was six inches off the plate.
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: That ended that game Like that we.
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: Should be able to.
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: Right, But the the other day they had one that
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: like they couldn't even show the the white in between
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: the ball and the strike zone. All they could tell
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: you is that it was a ball because there was
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: such little fine line.
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: If I'm a batter, and I'm happy for that.
- 1:18:06Speaker 9: And I would argue that a ball that is outside
- 1:18:09Speaker 9: the strike zone, that maybe touches that line by the
- 1:18:12Speaker 9: stitch of the ball is not a strike. But if
- 1:18:15Speaker 9: it's if it's in that box that somehow you've artificially created,
- 1:18:19Speaker 9: it's automatically.
- 1:18:20Speaker 10: Called the strike.
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: But if it touches, why is it not.
- 1:18:22Speaker 9: It's really like it's not really a hit able pitch.
- 1:18:25Speaker 9: It's not really over the strike zone, you know. And
- 1:18:29Speaker 9: I'm coming from a pitcher's perspective. I think this is
- 1:18:31Speaker 9: going to be it's it's going to be tough now.
- 1:18:34Speaker 9: And to forget the low strike. No one can throw
- 1:18:38Speaker 9: a low strike anymore. Everything is dropping below that box.
- 1:18:42Speaker 9: There's strikes and they're all called balls. Now they're getting
- 1:18:44Speaker 9: overturned because again it's down the middle of the plate.
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: But it's this much below that line. It's a ball.
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: That's a strike. It's been a strike for one hundred
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: and fifty years. Now it's not anymore.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: Maybe it's wrong before hundred and fifty years.
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: That's you. I mean, I don't tell you. You have
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: to like it.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I like getting it right.
- 1:19:02Speaker 9: I don't like the artificial nature of it. To me,
- 1:19:05Speaker 9: it's it takes away the enjoyment of the game.
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: To me, it's impossible for the human eye to see
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: this ball coming.
- 1:19:11Speaker 9: It's just like the guy slides into second base and
- 1:19:14Speaker 9: maybe he overslides the bag by a millimeter and I
- 1:19:18Speaker 9: the foot off and there's a spike you know in between.
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: He's out. Now, that's not the way the game is
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: supposed to be played.
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: It's not the it's not the you can change it
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: by just okay, that was the one. I that that
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: in the hockey off side like they can they can
- 1:19:36Speaker 5: go a minute later. That does too, But that's the
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: air space of second base on steels. If the guy
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: beats the throw, he beats the throw.
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: And like that's on side in hockey.
- 1:19:46Speaker 9: If you have to go back and look and you're
- 1:19:48Speaker 9: like the lace of the skate was like, that's not
- 1:19:53Speaker 9: the way it's supposed to be. Yes, Fred's right, the
- 1:19:56Speaker 9: artificial intelligence is showing you he was off side. No
- 1:20:00Speaker 9: one wants to see those plays overturned.
- 1:20:03Speaker 6: I think part of it too with baseball and Paul
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: is that he's so good at yelling at umps that
- 1:20:07Speaker 6: this he can't yell at.
- 1:20:08Speaker 10: You got some zingers on, honest. I mean you told
- 1:20:10Speaker 10: me some gold that you spewed at at various umpires.
- 1:20:13Speaker 10: Now it's a computer. He can't yell at the computer.
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: He just got a found it and go much younger
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: and earlier.
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: Earlier, we were talking about quarterbacks and you know they're
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: processing and the mental capacity. Travis and West Virginia says,
- 1:20:29Speaker 4: So you guys are actually admitting that a quarterback's brains matter.
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: You're always dismissive of me when I tell you that
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: Josh Allen's Dodo brain is holding him back.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: You and Evan, we're not dismissive that a brain matters.
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: I think he's being suck that's all.
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: Yeah, That's why I didn't give the some regression there.
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: Remember what we were talking about Dante Scarneki movie.
- 1:20:53Speaker 10: We talked to him about it. Yeah, we started to.
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: So somebody sent us a link. I don't know if Matt,
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: maybe you can get this.
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: This is from Mike Middletown. Mike, It's an email that
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: just came in not too long ago. It's got a
- 1:21:07Speaker 4: YouTube link to the movie. Maybe we could play it.
- 1:21:10Speaker 6: So we weren't able to get the story, but we
- 1:21:12Speaker 6: we got like Dante was there at the draft party,
- 1:21:14Speaker 6: and so we're in the suite getting ready to go down,
- 1:21:16Speaker 6: and and Evan asked him about it, and he was like,
- 1:21:18Speaker 6: and he knew exactly what we're talking about.
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: What Yeah, he had the movie right out, The Stealer
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: and the Pittsburgh Kid.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: I sure did.
- 1:21:23Speaker 6: And then right as they said, like Mike and Evan,
- 1:21:24Speaker 6: can you come now? And so right as weird, I
- 1:21:26Speaker 6: was like, get the story on Dante's movie.
- 1:21:29Speaker 10: I thought he wouldn't remember for some reason.
- 1:21:30Speaker 5: No, right as soon as I asked him about it.
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I think, why wouldn't he remember a movie?
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: No, I it was funny because commercial, right, isn't it?
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: The this was a movie whole movie yea.
- 1:21:45Speaker 10: With Henry Thomas and Lonnie Chapman.
- 1:21:47Speaker 9: Henry Thomas, I totally misunderstood this whole thing. I thought
- 1:21:52Speaker 9: the kid was Henry Thomas and a commercial picture. I
- 1:21:56Speaker 9: don't know, I don't even know anything about.
- 1:21:57Speaker 6: A movie, and it was the movie is basically was
- 1:22:00Speaker 6: based on the Coca Cola commercials. So I guess the
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: success made them want to make it into a movie.
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: I guess, yeah, how I was. Evidently it didn't work.
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: Jess came with me on Sunday to the draft party
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: and she was like, watching you interact with Dante Scarneki,
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: it was something else, and I was like.
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: You look at her.
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: I said, it wasn't as good as when he called
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: Jenny Dell old to her face.
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: Though, that was that you called her old, well, like
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: like accidentally obviously, since I because she came up to
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: me and introduced herself. I never met her before, and
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: I was like, uh, I think she said that she
- 1:22:39Speaker 5: had been watching some of our stuff to like get
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: to know.
- 1:22:43Speaker 10: Are just a fan? I thought, you guys.
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: She's very prepared apparently for these types of things. And
- 1:22:49Speaker 5: I said, oh, like, I've been a fan of yours
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: since I was a kid, and you know.
- 1:22:55Speaker 10: Well, but I thought he was playing it well, just
- 1:22:56Speaker 10: sitting right there. Jess was like, good yeash.
- 1:22:58Speaker 5: But then I also realize that, like she's not that
- 1:23:01Speaker 5: much older than I am, Like we're not that it was.
- 1:23:05Speaker 6: We should probably shout out Booker too, who was there
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: and we had to meet Booker.
- 1:23:08Speaker 10: We told you guys about him.
- 1:23:10Speaker 6: We had a super Patriots unfiltered fan there who had
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: his shirt signed. We had to sign it a second
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: time for Booker. He came up on stage. He had
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: a nice shout out for Patriots on filter. We got
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: to try to get that footage. But he and his mom,
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: I think it was Kelly, were there and that was
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: that was fun. We didn't think there were gonna be
- 1:23:24Speaker 6: any fans who want to meet us. Everybody's there to
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: see Damien Harris and Jenny Dell and all those, but
- 1:23:29Speaker 6: Booker was there for us.
- 1:23:29Speaker 10: So thank you Booker.
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: Good stuff. Joe and Michigan.
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: Evan said something regarding Edge Rusher Jennings to paraphrase, you
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: had a pretty good player in Jennings. In Patriots world,
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: it is we, not anything else, not you, Okay, So
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: we should have said we had a pretty good player Jennings. Oh,
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: you don't do that.
- 1:23:50Speaker 10: You're not on the team, but you're part of the brand.
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I still got.
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: Some some j school and me. Sorry, not a wee guy.
- 1:23:58Speaker 9: Whether I was like, I'm not on the team, it's
- 1:24:00Speaker 9: not we I wish. I wish you are on the team.
- 1:24:04Speaker 9: I wish get paid by the same people that pay them.
- 1:24:08Speaker 9: You're on the team, Paul, No, I'm not. No, definitely, okay, difference.
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: You're gonna stop cashing those checks.
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: Uh someday.
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: I mean, no, we are on the team. We get
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: paid by them.
- 1:24:21Speaker 5: It's not it's not.
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: But that doesn't make you on the team.
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: We don't play on the field, but we support the team.
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: We're part of support.
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: Staff or any other significant.
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: Regardless of that. The fact is we're work for the
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: same people.
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: We work for the same people, but you're not on
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: the same team.
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: Yes, we know, not what team are you on?
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: Content for the content team?
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: Right? But that I don't know. I don't know how
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: you're differentiating. We support the team, so.
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: Right, this is dumb. This is even for us, even
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: from you and I.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: This is the I mean, you know, it is what
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: it is.
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: I f p like on football too, that's a totally
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: we're not They.
- 1:25:05Speaker 9: Don't spy the same people.
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: They don't support the team they don't support, like that's
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: a paper company.
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: But that's not what we're here for.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: It is why we're here.
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: It's not we're here to provide content.
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: For fans of the team, for.
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: Everybody, like we don't.
- 1:25:24Speaker 9: We don't kick you out if you're not a fan
- 1:25:25Speaker 9: of the team, if you if we take all time.
- 1:25:30Speaker 9: We're here to provide content period, the best we can
- 1:25:33Speaker 9: possibly produce.
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: If you're Broncos or Bills, We're not are we going.
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: To kick them out.
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: We're not making content about paper. We're doing it about
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: the Patriots.
- 1:25:41Speaker 9: Certainly, I wish I had the talent to be on
- 1:25:45Speaker 9: the professional football team.
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: I don't same. I mean, like you're too old. It's
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: pretty simple.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 1:25:52Speaker 5: I just think I just you know, it's that little
- 1:25:56Speaker 5: bit of like you don't say we.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: You know, it's not when your journalism, you don't do that.
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: Yeah, you know that's one thing that I Yeah.
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: But I sometimes I say I went away in the
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: buston media a long time ago.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: Fred's absolutely right.
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: Little bit sometimes I say.
- 1:26:12Speaker 6: We, But it's not so much like feeling like I'm
- 1:26:13Speaker 6: on the team. It's just like we are glued to
- 1:26:15Speaker 6: the team's hips. So like when I talk about we
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: were at you know, the super Bowl, it's more physically
- 1:26:21Speaker 6: us we not we the team. But I think also
- 1:26:24Speaker 6: to Fred's like, we're kind of part of the brand,
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: Like we're part of the Patriots brand. We're not on
- 1:26:29Speaker 6: the team per se, but we are part.
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: Of We're supporting the brand right right, We're like the
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: equipment guys.
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: If I was on the team, i'd be able to
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: bet on sports.
- 1:26:37Speaker 9: I'm not on the team, therefore I can't in the cafeteria.
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: No, I mean, are the equipment guys on the team?
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: Yes, but they literally are on the sideline in the
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: locker room.
- 1:26:49Speaker 9: They're more than our department would be. No to that,
- 1:26:53Speaker 9: like coaches and players, that's the team department.
- 1:26:55Speaker 5: I think the equipment guys are.
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: Definitely you know, personnel department scouts. They're on the team.
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: Because the equipment guys do a ton of work for
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: US players.
- 1:27:02Speaker 9: Oh my god, I think every last player that's closer
- 1:27:06Speaker 9: I would say, but I think.
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: Every last player would say, you're on our team.
- 1:27:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean those guys.
- 1:27:12Speaker 9: If we're using that is a barometer, then I win
- 1:27:15Speaker 9: and a knockout, because there's no way they're saying that we're.
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: On Oh yeah, now they are.
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: I think so.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: No, Paul, you're wrong, Okay, back.
- 1:27:24Speaker 3: In the day, I'll only speak for myself.
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: Back in the day, you were right.
- 1:27:29Speaker 9: Maybe the people that are indifferent with them, they feel
- 1:27:31Speaker 9: differently about now, but they don't feel like that about
- 1:27:33Speaker 9: those are yours?
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: Know?
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: What do I want them to?
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: I know? But those are your colleagues. We're all part
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: of the same family.
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: Poll Okay, we are. This is a ridiculous conversation.
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: I'm just telling you. I'm just telling you what's.
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: Stemming from one individual person.
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: I'm telling you what's going on annoying me. If he thinks, oh, I.
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: Would love to ask him that because I think he'd
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: have some funny things to say.
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: He would say that you're part of our team. I
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: guarantee he would say it.
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: I got into it a couple of weeks ago with
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: the Thunder fans were coming after me because I was
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: chirping Hay because he's a flopping baby, and one of
- 1:28:15Speaker 5: their guys like that Nightven, one of the guys that
- 1:28:19Speaker 5: was coming after me like says like it has in
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: his bio that he's in Thunder basketball operations.
- 1:28:25Speaker 10: He has my job for the Thunder and he's clapping back.
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: But he says that he's in their basketball operations, and
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: I was like, you work for the content team, Like
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: you're not in basketball operations. Like I'm a team reporter.
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: I'm not in football operations with the New England Patriots.
- 1:28:43Speaker 10: So he should know what you're talking about, right, Like it.
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: Was super weird. I was like, why would you You're
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: acting like you're Sam Presty, like you're the general manager
- 1:28:50Speaker 5: of the team. It was weird.
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: Danny's and Daytona, what's up, Danny?
- 1:28:56Speaker 19: Hey, how's it going, gentleman Danny? But you guys went
- 1:29:00Speaker 19: out of that. You guys went out of business for
- 1:29:02Speaker 19: a while. And I'm just playing with you guys.
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: Why do you say that? Why why do you say
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: you thought we went out of business?
- 1:29:09Speaker 19: Oh no, I uh, Matt was miss show. No, I'm
- 1:29:14Speaker 19: just I just wanted to just giving you guys, just
- 1:29:17Speaker 19: I'm just giving you guys a hard time, especially uh Paul, Well,
- 1:29:23Speaker 19: I miss seeing you on your shows. Paul, you haven't
- 1:29:25Speaker 19: been on your shows lately. But uh, well, that's another
- 1:29:27Speaker 19: one there for another day. I just wanted to get
- 1:29:31Speaker 19: to the point of Evan, You've been doing some good
- 1:29:33Speaker 19: coverage on the guys, so so have you, Douce. I
- 1:29:36Speaker 19: wanted to give you guys kudos for that. Been seeing
- 1:29:38Speaker 19: some of your Guys coverage on YouTube, so thanks for
- 1:29:40Speaker 19: watching that, no problem. I do want to see that guy.
- 1:29:45Speaker 19: I talked to him. If y'all remember I called in
- 1:29:47Speaker 19: during the middle of seasons about seeing Romeo Romelo height.
- 1:29:51Speaker 19: I really would like to see him. I know a
- 1:29:53Speaker 19: lot of people are saying he's older or something like that,
- 1:29:55Speaker 19: and they're kind of watching out for that, but uh,
- 1:29:57Speaker 19: he's one guy I would like to see.
- 1:29:59Speaker 17: I really would like to.
- 1:30:00Speaker 19: I really just want I'm not going to say he's
- 1:30:02Speaker 19: that guy, but I would like to see them at
- 1:30:04Speaker 19: a do it all kind of off ball linebacker kind
- 1:30:08Speaker 19: of somebody like I really want to see them have
- 1:30:11Speaker 19: like a Luke Kley slash spread warner type linebacker.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: He was in the middle of that.
- 1:30:17Speaker 19: That's that's who I really would like to see.
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: You know, we have to.
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I was gonna say, first ballance chief singletary, somebody like,
- 1:30:29Speaker 5: let's go the.
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: Best that ever did it may best in my ear.
- 1:30:32Speaker 17: Yeah, I mean he's good, he's good.
- 1:30:34Speaker 19: I mean like I said, we have never really, I mean,
- 1:30:36Speaker 19: think about it, if somebody brought up a point on
- 1:30:38Speaker 19: this is my last steak before I get off here.
- 1:30:39Speaker 19: Somebody really brought up a point the last thing. The Patriots,
- 1:30:42Speaker 19: and I'm just talking about across the whole team. The
- 1:30:44Speaker 19: Patriots have not had a single like true pro bowler slash,
- 1:30:49Speaker 19: you know, first team All Pro since going back since
- 1:30:52Speaker 19: twenty thirteen. They and they mentioned it was Dante high
- 1:30:55Speaker 19: Tower or what's yeah, Dante high Tower or who is
- 1:30:59Speaker 19: the past rusher they had they traded to the Cardinals.
- 1:31:01Speaker 19: Who was Kaandler Jones, Taylor Jones, Ydler Jones. They haven't
- 1:31:04Speaker 19: had they haven't had a guys like that since back
- 1:31:07Speaker 19: in I mean, I remember watching them when I was
- 1:31:09Speaker 19: in high school. I remember watching those guys.
- 1:31:11Speaker 9: Are we talking about like a linebacker just juster.
- 1:31:17Speaker 19: No, I'm talking about in general.
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: I'm just Christian Gonzales, I would say, would be one
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: of those.
- 1:31:22Speaker 19: He's getting it.
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: I'm just talking about draft picks.
- 1:31:25Speaker 19: Yeah, yeah, but I'm saying And then they also brought
- 1:31:27Speaker 19: up another point. The somebody just brought us about ESPN
- 1:31:31Speaker 19: that or maybe it was Colin Hurd. The Patriots haven't
- 1:31:34Speaker 19: had another person who haven't they re signed that's been
- 1:31:37Speaker 19: a first rounder. Uh, that's been on the team. And
- 1:31:40Speaker 19: I went back and I was going through all the years.
- 1:31:41Speaker 9: I was like, damn, Gonzales is going to be the first.
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: In a little bit, Yeah.
- 1:31:46Speaker 19: He is first, and I mean, yeah, you can say
- 1:31:48Speaker 19: Bill was the guy picking it. But we have not
- 1:31:50Speaker 19: had a single person that we've taken that was in
- 1:31:53Speaker 19: the first round that they restarted. Everybody has either walked,
- 1:31:56Speaker 19: either Bill stupidly trade him or let him go. Are
- 1:31:59Speaker 19: they either they walked or they got traded or they
- 1:32:02Speaker 19: were whatever. Yeah, album something happened. But every team has,
- 1:32:05Speaker 19: for the most part, has retained at least a good
- 1:32:08Speaker 19: portion of their first rounds. The Patriots for the last
- 1:32:10Speaker 19: literally ten to ten years, they went back from twenty
- 1:32:13Speaker 19: ten all in twenty nineteen anywhere.
- 1:32:16Speaker 10: That's why they stunk the last few years.
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: It's twelve.
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: I think Towers the last.
- 1:32:20Speaker 9: Gonzales is going to break that stretch, which is obviously
- 1:32:24Speaker 9: a positive sign. I mean, I assume that they're gonna sorry,
- 1:32:27Speaker 9: I assume that we're going to re sign Gonzales.
- 1:32:30Speaker 10: We like to, I hope, So you're going to chip
- 1:32:33Speaker 10: in for that.
- 1:32:33Speaker 9: I assume that part of the money when we when
- 1:32:35Speaker 9: we take some mic and you know, and Mike does,
- 1:32:38Speaker 9: what are we doing the stuff that like that we suggest, I.
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: Think we'll get it done.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: We'll sign him.
- 1:32:43Speaker 4: Yeah, help effect Adam in Louisiana. Pee Does a PU
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: crew get a ring if they win the Super Bowl?
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: Some? Do you did?
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: Yes? I did? Okay, I have sometimes okay, some I had.
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: And ideas and I haven't had.
- 1:32:57Speaker 9: My guess is that players that are on the team
- 1:33:00Speaker 9: always get it. Sometimes I get it. Sometimes I didn't.
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: Okay, I never.
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: Got So sometimes you with the team and sometimes you're not.
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: Maybe that's the way they think they envision it.
- 1:33:10Speaker 9: So maybe maybe after this conversation, I cannot expect you
- 1:33:13Speaker 9: next time.
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: I would say right now, and you can say that
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: you're on the team.
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: But I would say proud. The answer to that is
- 1:33:20Speaker 3: sometimes be proud of it.
- 1:33:23Speaker 6: That was that was like I didn't say it, but
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: when I was a little depressed duce watching walking out
- 1:33:28Speaker 6: of the Super Bowl and there was like a Seahawks
- 1:33:30Speaker 6: fan in front of me who would been kind of
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: giving me the business little but I'd always been like respectful,
- 1:33:34Speaker 6: but there was part of me.
- 1:33:36Speaker 10: They wanted to, you know, just.
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: They're like, man, I would have gotten a Super Bowl
- 1:33:39Speaker 6: ring if we won, Like what are you going to get?
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: Nothing? Wow?
- 1:33:43Speaker 5: Wow?
- 1:33:44Speaker 10: I didn't say it though.
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: Mike came from a dark place right there, dark duce.
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: I didn't know he was. He was one of these guys.
- 1:33:52Speaker 6: He was like one of those guys he would like
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: say things and then kind of like look back if
- 1:33:55Speaker 6: there was any reaction, you know. And I'm always one
- 1:33:58Speaker 6: of those like yeah, like he's trying to right right,
- 1:34:01Speaker 6: and so I'm taking the cheese from him at all.
- 1:34:04Speaker 6: I'm like and you know, I just so I could
- 1:34:06Speaker 6: be like, your defense really good, man, Yeah.
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: It's good. What else? Oh no, wait a good right,
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: we're good.
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: Williams and Phelim what's up? William? Thanks?
- 1:34:20Speaker 11: How you doing all right?
- 1:34:22Speaker 18: All right?
- 1:34:22Speaker 11: What's going on?
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: Team?
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: Hey doing okay?
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: We're doing good?
- 1:34:27Speaker 3: Okay?
- 1:34:30Speaker 11: Uh to the caller that well, I guess that caller
- 1:34:32Speaker 11: was just on what not?
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: He was damn right?
- 1:34:34Speaker 11: He said since twenty ten, Yeah, you haven't had no
- 1:34:37Speaker 11: game changes since then. That's a very long time now.
- 1:34:41Speaker 11: And he made me think about that. I was like,
- 1:34:43Speaker 11: damn if he wasn't right, about that. But my questions
- 1:34:47Speaker 11: for well, not so much a question for Evan. I'm
- 1:34:49Speaker 11: to state this, Okay, Evan, I remember you going with
- 1:34:52Speaker 11: the Will Campbell's train last season, So now I guess
- 1:34:58Speaker 11: we basically do need a right tackle because I know
- 1:35:00Speaker 11: most of it is getting older. So I agree with
- 1:35:02Speaker 11: that assessment. Okay, but after this, I'm hopefully we're done
- 1:35:06Speaker 11: with dolphinsive line god willing, though I really wish some
- 1:35:09Speaker 11: of those guards we picked that pinned out. But mister
- 1:35:14Speaker 11: Elliot Wolflow, we ain't even got justice stuff. You already
- 1:35:16Speaker 11: know how I feel about him. But at this point
- 1:35:19Speaker 11: I'll leave it at dizdel Nick Cattle's was right though.
- 1:35:22Speaker 11: At some point, gentlemen, you know, and I know Duce.
- 1:35:25Speaker 11: I know you big on the draft. I understand that though.
- 1:35:27Speaker 7: Okay, but you know.
- 1:35:29Speaker 11: Far as the second, third, fourth round and hoping you
- 1:35:32Speaker 11: find this player whatever stuff thought, but at some point
- 1:35:35Speaker 11: you need to get game changes. Okay. You know you
- 1:35:38Speaker 11: got that that dual threat quarterback, that young man, you
- 1:35:40Speaker 11: know what I mean, and he should have game changes
- 1:35:43Speaker 11: bottom line. I mean somewhere I ain't saying it, maybe
- 1:35:45Speaker 11: cross the border, but maybe one or two somewhere it
- 1:35:48Speaker 11: would be nice.
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: I mean, so I'll be there will if you could
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: tell me who the game changers were, then we could
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: just cut this process down pretty significantly easier. I mean,
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: deacially picking thirty one, you just yoh oh, but like
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: you know, you never know.
- 1:36:06Speaker 9: And the whole draft thing, I mean this is, you know,
- 1:36:09Speaker 9: Mike has railed against this for a long time. It's
- 1:36:13Speaker 9: you go four and thirteen and back to back years.
- 1:36:15Speaker 9: It's not just because like well Brady retired and you
- 1:36:18Speaker 9: didn't have a quarterback. That's part of it, Like you know,
- 1:36:20Speaker 9: the sort of the succession plan for Brady is obviously
- 1:36:24Speaker 9: part of it. But when you draft poorly year after year,
- 1:36:27Speaker 9: and at the end of the Belichick regime they drafted poorly,
- 1:36:31Speaker 9: that's how you get in this situation. So yeah, I mean,
- 1:36:34Speaker 9: Christian Gonzales broke a streak of ten plush I think
- 1:36:38Speaker 9: it was twelve to whatever it was, gone to twenty three,
- 1:36:41Speaker 9: twenty three, it's eleven years. That's a long time to
- 1:36:47Speaker 9: go without a significant playmaker being drafted. And that's not
- 1:36:51Speaker 9: an exaggeration. They went from Dante High Tower in twelve
- 1:36:56Speaker 9: right was the last I would call really solid play
- 1:37:00Speaker 9: making difference making player that they drafted in the first.
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: Roun Yeah, yeah, high towered Chandler Joke. Yeah, you know
- 1:37:06Speaker 5: those guys.
- 1:37:06Speaker 9: You know, Jamie Collins was the second round pick and thirteen.
- 1:37:09Speaker 9: He was a good player, but not that kind of play.
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: Remember when they drafted, they said, we have the core
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: of our defense for years.
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: To come, and they did.
- 1:37:17Speaker 5: They kind of did well.
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: Chandler Jones they traded off, Yeah, but that was four
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: years later.
- 1:37:21Speaker 9: Yeah yeah, you know, five years later like that they
- 1:37:24Speaker 9: had that that was the core of that defense won
- 1:37:27Speaker 9: in fourteen.
- 1:37:28Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, I mean I'd point to that as maybe
- 1:37:30Speaker 6: being big mistakes, like not holding on to Chandler Jones.
- 1:37:33Speaker 10: Not you know, you brought Jamie Collins back like three
- 1:37:35Speaker 10: more times.
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: Like Kelly Jones had a great career to the.
- 1:37:38Speaker 6: Point, right, you find like you find these guys, hang
- 1:37:41Speaker 6: on to them. But I'd also point to the current
- 1:37:43Speaker 6: team and as good as last season was, and as
- 1:37:45Speaker 6: good as last season's free agency class was, it can
- 1:37:48Speaker 6: be like twenty one to twenty two if they don't
- 1:37:50Speaker 6: replace the production of the veterans as they start to
- 1:37:53Speaker 6: age out and their production starts to decline, their availability
- 1:37:57Speaker 6: starts to decline. If the rookies and the young guys
- 1:38:00Speaker 6: who were around last year, like you know, like a
- 1:38:02Speaker 6: Ponder or you know, those kind of players, if those
- 1:38:05Speaker 6: guys don't start to develop, you're gonna start to have
- 1:38:07Speaker 6: this problem again.
- 1:38:08Speaker 10: So you have to stack another great draft class.
- 1:38:10Speaker 6: And for as good as Gonzales and Drake may have been,
- 1:38:13Speaker 6: and there have been a couple pieces around them, there
- 1:38:15Speaker 6: haven't been a ton. It's not like you look at
- 1:38:17Speaker 6: these draft classes and be like, you know the controvations
- 1:38:19Speaker 6: from last year for sure, but you're going to need
- 1:38:22Speaker 6: more from all those guys next year to prevent getting
- 1:38:24Speaker 6: back into the We gotta go to free agency. We
- 1:38:26Speaker 6: got to fill all these holes that we've missed with
- 1:38:28Speaker 6: all these misdraft picks.
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: I think that that's why when you know, we do
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: these mock draft that exercises, like you think so much
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: about being a year ahead at different positions, you know, tackle,
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: tight end, line back or safety. You know these spots
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: where Hunter Henry's thirty two, Roberts Blaine thirty one. They
- 1:38:46Speaker 5: just signed Kevin Byer to a one year contract at
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: thirty three. You know, like these guys are Morgan Moses
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: thirty four, like, those are the players that when they
- 1:38:55Speaker 5: were rolling, Bill would always have the next guy. He
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: would have the next guy ready to go in the
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: pipeline already, And then that stopped happening and they just
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: everybody started to age out, and they'd had nothing. They
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: didn't have a backup plan for Rob Gronkowski, they didn't have,
- 1:39:11Speaker 5: you know, guys that were in the pipeline that we're
- 1:39:13Speaker 5: ready to step into those roles.
- 1:39:14Speaker 6: They've been so like neat with how they've made their
- 1:39:16Speaker 6: personnel moves with free agency, where it's like one out,
- 1:39:19Speaker 6: one in for the most part.
- 1:39:20Speaker 10: I almost wonder if.
- 1:39:21Speaker 6: You look at the draft and you look at the
- 1:39:23Speaker 6: positions of the older free agency signed last year, like
- 1:39:26Speaker 6: right tackle, and said, if this draft is kind of
- 1:39:29Speaker 6: predicated on filling those positions down the road, you know,
- 1:39:32Speaker 6: is it.
- 1:39:33Speaker 10: I don't know if it'll be one for one, but
- 1:39:34Speaker 10: it might be praying.
- 1:39:35Speaker 9: This is why I really like what you know, and
- 1:39:37Speaker 9: it's not necessarily results oriented because we don't know yet,
- 1:39:41Speaker 9: But I like the mindset of what they did in
- 1:39:43Speaker 9: free agency because of what Mike talked about in twenty one.
- 1:39:46Speaker 9: They hit it out of the park in free agency.
- 1:39:49Speaker 9: You know, they got a lot of contributions from a
- 1:39:51Speaker 9: lot of different guys, and that was a big part
- 1:39:53Speaker 9: of the reason why they went from a bad team
- 1:39:55Speaker 9: to a ten win team that made the playoffs. Now
- 1:39:58Speaker 9: this last year, they were even better in free agency.
- 1:40:02Speaker 9: But Mike didn't just sit there and say, Okay, we
- 1:40:04Speaker 9: got all that straightened away. I think I put it
- 1:40:08Speaker 9: in the last show. Six of the guys that they
- 1:40:11Speaker 9: signed last year are gone. Six. That's like half of
- 1:40:14Speaker 9: those free agents. So he's not relying on all those
- 1:40:17Speaker 9: guys to do it again. So it's not going to
- 1:40:20Speaker 9: be like Matthew Judon who was tremendous in his first
- 1:40:23Speaker 9: season and then fell off a cliff, you know, in
- 1:40:25Speaker 9: the second half of the second season, and then sort
- 1:40:28Speaker 9: of continue to go that way.
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: Again.
- 1:40:32Speaker 9: That's all well and good. If Draymond Jones is as
- 1:40:35Speaker 9: good or better than calevon Chase on Romeo Dobbs, Romeo
- 1:40:39Speaker 9: Dobbs is as you know, as good or better than
- 1:40:42Speaker 9: Steph Diggs, and you know, all the different moves that
- 1:40:45Speaker 9: they made, but I like the idea behind what they did.
- 1:40:49Speaker 9: Don't get complacent with the free agents that you got
- 1:40:52Speaker 9: last year. You know, Brad Berry was a really good
- 1:40:55Speaker 9: player for them last year. I think they're hoping Jared
- 1:40:57Speaker 9: Wilson can be as good, if not better than he
- 1:41:00Speaker 9: is at center. Yeah, and they know Vera Tucka Vera
- 1:41:04Speaker 9: ta is a better player than Jared Wilson was last
- 1:41:14Speaker 9: year at left guard, so they know that if he's healthy,
- 1:41:16Speaker 9: he's an upgrade.
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: So I like that mindset.
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:41:18Speaker 6: It was chatting with David Andrews also, the draft party
- 1:41:21Speaker 6: asked him just about that move. I mean he, you know,
- 1:41:23Speaker 6: basically saw Bradberry come in last year. I mean not
- 1:41:25Speaker 6: nothing breaking, you know, no breaking news or anything, but
- 1:41:28Speaker 6: he liked the movie, understood why they were doing it.
- 1:41:30Speaker 6: You know, it's ripped the band aid off, and maybe
- 1:41:32Speaker 6: you would have gotten another solid year from from Bradberry.
- 1:41:35Speaker 6: But this is where Wilson's gonna end up. Let's rip
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: the band aid off and go for it.
- 1:41:38Speaker 5: It's a dog for him, kind of like the Georgia guys.
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: Trent right Sin but Quicksand, Oh Good says, I can't
- 1:41:45Speaker 4: believe you had a discussion on Quicksand and never mentioned
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: the Princess Bride or to bring it back to football,
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: Shane Falco's great Quicksand speech from the replacement Quicksand. Yeah,
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: you're playing and you think everything's going fine, but then
- 1:41:58Speaker 4: one thing goes wrong, and then another and another.
- 1:42:01Speaker 2: You try to fight back, but the heart of you
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: fight the deeper.
- 1:42:03Speaker 4: You sink until you can't move, you can't breathe because
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: you're in over your head, like Quicksand.
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a great movie.
- 1:42:10Speaker 6: My wife called me out on the I asked her
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: about it too, because I was curious and it was
- 1:42:14Speaker 6: the same thing as us, like just a general like
- 1:42:16Speaker 6: fear of Quicksand, but never seen quicksand didn't know why.
- 1:42:19Speaker 6: But she brought up the Princess Bride as well, which
- 1:42:22Speaker 6: is a good one. I mean, but I don't think
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: that's really Quicksand. That's more like fantasy sinking into sand.
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: I you know, I don't know irrational.
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: Mike Nicholas in Oslo, Norway. I heard your discussion last
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: week about the most disturbing movies you had seen. I'm
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: surprised Evan didn't mention the movie Draft Day. I'm sure
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: that left him traumatized.
- 1:42:44Speaker 5: It's a good email.
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: Must never happened.
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: Did you ever see the movie Menace to Society?
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: Yeah, that is one of the most disturbing movies you've
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: ever seen.
- 1:42:54Speaker 6: Yeah, it was like it's kind of like a little
- 1:42:57Speaker 6: more hardcore than Boys in the Hood, right, They were
- 1:42:59Speaker 6: kind of back to back Menace to Society. Yeah, and
- 1:43:02Speaker 6: then there was Don't Be a Menace in South Central
- 1:43:04Speaker 6: Drinking Juice.
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: Back to Draft. I thought that was a decent movie.
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: I know it was a little bit, you know, a
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: little bit didn't like it.
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: It was made for it was Hollywood.
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: I didn't like a single second team, Like can we
- 1:43:20Speaker 5: just like have some sort of realism, like just a
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: little the.
- 1:43:25Speaker 10: People not just whose real name?
- 1:43:29Speaker 2: You're the that one talking about the teams? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: so I think that was good.
- 1:43:41Speaker 3: An element it wasn't Sentinels.
- 1:43:45Speaker 9: I thought the movie itself, to your side, Fred was
- 1:43:48Speaker 9: a decent you know, it was well done. It was
- 1:43:51Speaker 9: it was It was a decent story. To Evan's side,
- 1:43:54Speaker 9: they could have had a decent story exactly the way
- 1:43:57Speaker 9: they had it. It had some semblance of reality without those
- 1:44:01Speaker 9: really absurd trades, like you could have done the same
- 1:44:05Speaker 9: thing and didn't have to hollywood it up, you know,
- 1:44:10Speaker 9: like the whole the premise behind like you being the
- 1:44:12Speaker 9: one guy that wasn't sold on the quarterback. That's that's fine,
- 1:44:16Speaker 9: but like we're gonna trade all our picks, then we're
- 1:44:18Speaker 9: going to get him back. Then we're going to break
- 1:44:20Speaker 9: you over the colt.
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: What do they know? Like that is so unrealistic, I know,
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: but I.
- 1:44:25Speaker 4: Think for a general audience, realism when it comes to
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: the draft would be incredibly boring.
- 1:44:31Speaker 9: No, but I think they could have had a dramatic
- 1:44:33Speaker 9: trade the way they did, but it could have been
- 1:44:35Speaker 9: based on some kind of reality. I mean, Mike dick
- 1:44:39Speaker 9: Hat traded his whole draft for Ricky Williams, Like, so
- 1:44:41Speaker 9: you could do that, but he didn't then trade it
- 1:44:45Speaker 9: back for twice of what he.
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: Paid you, like when I We're gonna.
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: End up with everybody at the end.
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: That movie came out when I was working at NFL
- 1:44:53Speaker 5: Network and they had a screening for us in the
- 1:44:55Speaker 5: movie and I'm Gonna Lost and his the the Girl
- 1:45:00Speaker 5: and Gardener Jeffer Gardner. They were gonna come on our
- 1:45:03Speaker 5: shows that week to promote the movie the movie, and
- 1:45:06Speaker 5: they made the really big mistake of showing that movie
- 1:45:09Speaker 5: to a room full of like nerds like me, And
- 1:45:12Speaker 5: so after the movie was over, everybody's like, what do
- 1:45:14Speaker 5: you think of the movie, and the whole place was
- 1:45:16Speaker 5: like that.
- 1:45:17Speaker 10: Was horrible, that would never happen.
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: I was like, this is, oh yeah, but it's a movie.
- 1:45:26Speaker 3: No I got like I told you, I saw.
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: There wasn't a documentary.
- 1:45:30Speaker 5: But there's a lot of really good football movies where
- 1:45:32Speaker 5: that would like, you know, a little bit far fetched
- 1:45:35Speaker 5: ending or something like that, that are still great movies,
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: And like I didn't it was great.
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: I'm not calling it great, I know, but you.
- 1:45:42Speaker 5: Can still do it with it within the parameters of reality,
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: where like it's still not that.
- 1:45:47Speaker 2: Like I said, they used the real names.
- 1:45:50Speaker 5: Wow, the real teams. If that's the bar Claire Wrightson,
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: Hello everyone, Hello.
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: Ever, just let me ride this blissful way from mom
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: with Rabel saying I love him about tight ends. Give
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: them nine, give me nine of them, Bring me as
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: many tight ends as we can get. Swoon. I endore you, Evan,
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: And do you genuinely appreciate double dipping? Maybe a touch much,
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: but let me have my moment.
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: Hey, they need to draft a tight end. I just said,
- 1:46:18Speaker 5: you already have a room that doesn't really need two
- 1:46:21Speaker 5: of them. They clearly really like Julian Hill, you know, this.
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: Might say more about me than anything else.
- 1:46:27Speaker 9: But the first thing I thought of when Mike answered
- 1:46:29Speaker 9: that question today was Claire and how much how excited
- 1:46:34Speaker 9: about Mike Rabel talking so passionately about I mean, if
- 1:46:39Speaker 9: there's one position that you would stake a mortgage payment
- 1:46:42Speaker 9: on them taken, I think after that it would have
- 1:46:45Speaker 9: to be tight end.
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: Like at some point.
- 1:46:48Speaker 5: He's going to throw a fit if they don't.
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: I think he's going to be pissed they don't take that.
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: It does feel though, like he kind of feels like,
- 1:46:57Speaker 5: you know, he could have played tight end. Like it
- 1:46:59Speaker 5: feels like he likes sort of touchdowns. Yeah, like he
- 1:47:03Speaker 5: loves tight ends because he kind of thinks.
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: He he could have played it.
- 1:47:07Speaker 5: You know, it is a tight end.
- 1:47:08Speaker 10: Play a little tight end. Yeah, A little bit of
- 1:47:09Speaker 10: that got some tuddies.
- 1:47:11Speaker 5: Watch my blocking tape.
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: Dana Virginia in Michigan talking about the super Bowl and
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: scheduling it. Having the super Bowl on the weekend at
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: President's Day makes sense in terms of the whole getting
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: the next day off thing. In the absence of that switch, However,
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: is there a reason that the super Bowl isn't played
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: on Saturday rather than Sunday. If it's played on Saturday,
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: then the next day is already a day off for
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: most people.
- 1:47:34Speaker 5: Football's played on Sunday professional football.
- 1:47:37Speaker 9: But now it's also played on Saturday and Thursday and Friday, Wednesday, Monday.
- 1:47:43Speaker 9: But I think that's a reasonable Yeah, the NFL days,
- 1:47:47Speaker 9: why not. I think that originally they probably looked at
- 1:47:50Speaker 9: it as that was not as good a day. Ratings wise,
- 1:47:54Speaker 9: the Saturday is not as good a market, just like
- 1:47:56Speaker 9: use sports and stuff. But I think all that stuff
- 1:48:00Speaker 9: is out the window now. If you put Super Bowl
- 1:48:01Speaker 9: Sunday on Saturday, I don't think the red rating would
- 1:48:04Speaker 9: change one eye.
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: Or change youth sports. As for May being ready for
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: the Super Bowl, it might help if.
- 1:48:09Speaker 9: They're more youth sports on Saturdays than Sundays. I don't know,
- 1:48:13Speaker 9: is there I don't know, Mike, you you have to
- 1:48:16Speaker 9: have to officiate in this game.
- 1:48:18Speaker 10: Youth hockey, they're just there every day right.
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: As for May being ready for the Super Bowl, it
- 1:48:24Speaker 4: might help if McDaniels is ready to make some adjustments
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: in the Super Bowl, such as a tight end chipping
- 1:48:28Speaker 4: a D lineman, which worked when McDaniels bothered to use
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: it against the Seahawks.
- 1:48:33Speaker 9: I'm getting tired of the Josh hate the Josh bashing.
- 1:48:38Speaker 9: That's about the second or third one today. Yeah, Like
- 1:48:41Speaker 9: you know, I think Todd in North Carolina says this
- 1:48:43Speaker 9: is the right fit, right for May, Like, look what
- 1:48:45Speaker 9: happened to the offense, So we're just automatically assuming everything
- 1:48:48Speaker 9: that happened bad to the offense was Josh's fault.
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:48:51Speaker 4: McDaniel's performance in the Super Bowl was like a lifeguard
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: seeing someone drowning, and all that lifeguard did was keep
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: yelling swim better. I don't know, Josh, maybe try throwing
- 1:49:00Speaker 4: may or Campbell a life ring or send out a
- 1:49:03Speaker 4: boat or something.
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: I don't know. We're two months away, like remove from this.
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: It's I've already said my piece about the Super Bowl.
- 1:49:12Speaker 9: Is it possible that he gave him all the information
- 1:49:14Speaker 9: that he possibly could have and he just didn't, you know,
- 1:49:17Speaker 9: apply it to what was going on.
- 1:49:19Speaker 5: The conversations that were going on on that sideline of
- 1:49:22Speaker 5: what can we possibly do? And they you know, I
- 1:49:25Speaker 5: know that you get into it and it gets complicated.
- 1:49:30Speaker 5: You know, it's like, well, if we do that, then
- 1:49:31Speaker 5: we can't do this, and if we help over here,
- 1:49:33Speaker 5: then we're you know, we're this over there. What we're
- 1:49:36Speaker 5: trying to do over here isn't going to work. And
- 1:49:38Speaker 5: then this, you know, how about the house.
- 1:49:40Speaker 10: We can't block them, we can't do anything. I mean, like,
- 1:49:43Speaker 10: that's kind of the root of a.
- 1:49:44Speaker 9: Lot of how you're supposed to recognize that they're not
- 1:49:47Speaker 9: getting blocked and you're supposed to no where to go
- 1:49:49Speaker 9: with the ball, Or how about the receivers recognizing, Hey,
- 1:49:53Speaker 9: our offensive line is having a hard time. I'm going
- 1:49:55Speaker 9: to need to get open a little bit quicker than
- 1:49:57Speaker 9: I normally and give Drake a place to go.
- 1:49:59Speaker 10: With the ball.
- 1:50:00Speaker 9: I think that they are a little bit limited personnel
- 1:50:02Speaker 9: wise on offense. I don't think it's a finished product.
- 1:50:05Speaker 9: That's why I'm a little concerned about the receiver position.
- 1:50:08Speaker 9: Back to square one. All the draft talk that Mike
- 1:50:11Speaker 9: and Evan have been doing for weeks now. Is a
- 1:50:14Speaker 9: wide receiver, you know, provided that they don't get aj Brown,
- 1:50:18Speaker 9: is wide receiver at the top of the list or
- 1:50:21Speaker 9: is it still edge?
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: I don't know, but I think they need more weapons.
- 1:50:24Speaker 5: Absolutely. I think you need to take another swing, Like
- 1:50:26Speaker 5: when in the top one hundred, I don't know when
- 1:50:29Speaker 5: if first second third round is a good question, and
- 1:50:32Speaker 5: you know, what type of receivers is obviously another good question.
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: But if AJ Brown is not coming here, then you
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: need to take another swing. And that that's just you know,
- 1:50:43Speaker 5: I don't know, Like the whole Super Bowl thing. We
- 1:50:45Speaker 5: dissected the Super Bowl back in February, Like, there were
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: things that I thought that they could have done differently,
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: you know in that game that might have helped, might
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: have worked. You know, it's easy to sit here and
- 1:50:55Speaker 5: say it in hindsight that that that might have been
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: the case. Like, I don't know if we have to,
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: but I'm with you in terms of the Josh stuff.
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: I mean, the guy did just win Assistant Coach of
- 1:51:03Speaker 5: the Year in the NFL.
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: If Drake hadn't thrown that interception and they had actually
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: scored on that drive to go within one score, do you.
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: Think the Patriots had a shot to win that game.
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: If they're within one score with whatever eight minutes less?
- 1:51:18Speaker 12: Sure?
- 1:51:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I just would have liked to have
- 1:51:19Speaker 6: seen some pressure on Darnold. It was you know, I
- 1:51:21Speaker 6: think he.
- 1:51:23Speaker 3: Got away with got you know, and they got closed
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: he means pressure.
- 1:51:27Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, sure, I mean you saw early on, there
- 1:51:31Speaker 6: were some you know, just misses, so but you never
- 1:51:34Speaker 6: could get him into that place, I'd say right now,
- 1:51:37Speaker 6: and I'm always been an AJ Brown fan, I would
- 1:51:39Speaker 6: just say, as this is dragged on, I'm a little
- 1:51:41Speaker 6: bit more of a fan of drafting a guy top
- 1:51:45Speaker 6: seventy five, first second round, developing it and you know,
- 1:51:49Speaker 6: having a guy for the long term. And I you know,
- 1:51:52Speaker 6: I won't be sad if AJ Brown does happen. I
- 1:51:55Speaker 6: would feel okay about it if they get a good
- 1:51:57Speaker 6: deal for him. But there's part of me when I
- 1:51:59Speaker 6: look at the long term health of the depth chart.
- 1:52:01Speaker 6: You have long term needs at this position. So even
- 1:52:03Speaker 6: if you get Antonio Brown, you're getting two years out
- 1:52:07Speaker 6: of him. I mean maybe, you know, maybe, and what
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: level Probably pretty good, but is it a digs thing?
- 1:52:12Speaker 6: And then in two years now we're going back to
- 1:52:14Speaker 6: the market to try to trade.
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: Like Paul said, you have to build underneath him, and
- 1:52:18Speaker 4: you're the alternative I would I would prefer, But your
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: alternative is best case scenario.
- 1:52:23Speaker 9: I want to take a guy in the top seventy
- 1:52:25Speaker 9: five and develop him in Yeah, and so.
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: He's the no, no, no, he's the guy. Yeah, I'd rather
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: have that than AJ Brown.
- 1:52:32Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but it's but hard.
- 1:52:34Speaker 5: You know, when when's the last time they've done that.
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: I rather have AJ Brown than Kyle Williams. Yeah, you know,
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: just to.
- 1:52:40Speaker 10: Use I would agree with you on that. Yeah, that's
- 1:52:43Speaker 10: I don't know if it's just fatigue for me.
- 1:52:45Speaker 6: I don't know if it's just like because we're talking
- 1:52:47Speaker 6: to people of the draft party, there are something. I
- 1:52:49Speaker 6: was talking to a couple of like you know, young
- 1:52:50Speaker 6: podcasters types like us, and they're like, I'm not talking
- 1:52:53Speaker 6: about him anymore, Like I'm just sick of it, Like
- 1:52:55Speaker 6: I you know, if he comes, great, but if not,
- 1:52:56Speaker 6: I'm done, Like I can't do it anymore, you know,
- 1:52:58Speaker 6: like people are like appleplectic and I mean, I you know,
- 1:53:00Speaker 6: I get it.
- 1:53:01Speaker 10: We take calls all the time. I think some of
- 1:53:02Speaker 10: our callers have felt like that too. So I don't know.
- 1:53:04Speaker 10: And again, like I love a J.
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: Brown.
- 1:53:06Speaker 6: I just he's always been my kind of guy and
- 1:53:08Speaker 6: the kind of receiver I like. But you know, the
- 1:53:10Speaker 6: more that you wait that it's harder to just keep
- 1:53:12Speaker 6: waiting on one person.
- 1:53:13Speaker 9: If the choice is between a veteran like a J.
- 1:53:15Speaker 9: Brown and a good young receiver I'll take the good
- 1:53:17Speaker 9: young receiver. Yes, I mean that's it's just which line.
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: That's not the way it works, you know, dobbson brazl
- 1:53:24Speaker 6: and I like, there's something cool to me about.
- 1:53:29Speaker 9: My box, something about if Brale can play Jalen polp Risk.
- 1:53:35Speaker 9: I know, like that's you know, that's the hard part.
- 1:53:38Speaker 9: Like to Evan's point, that's why that's how the big
- 1:53:40Speaker 9: boys get paid and that's why they're on the team.
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: Yeah, we're not.
- 1:53:45Speaker 4: Karen from London, Evan loved your mock draft from start
- 1:53:48Speaker 4: to finish. That would be an ideal situation, a rather
- 1:53:52Speaker 4: dream scenario. If our draft ended up like that, I'd
- 1:53:55Speaker 4: be a static But I suspect some of the players
- 1:53:57Speaker 4: will end up going higher, like Derek Moore will probably
- 1:54:00Speaker 4: go slightly higher in the second round in Oscar delp
- 1:54:03Speaker 4: who we may have to slightly trade up.
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: For in the third round to get him.
- 1:54:07Speaker 5: You want to know what my biggest So your mock
- 1:54:10Speaker 5: was unrealistic, just like drafting. Do you want to know
- 1:54:13Speaker 5: what my biggest pet peeve is is? Oh, he won't
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: be there. Okay, so you've called all thirty two teams
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: and you know where they have My favorite on the board.
- 1:54:22Speaker 9: Delk Oscar Oscar Delp. Yeah, it won't be in the
- 1:54:25Speaker 9: third round. You'll have to Okay. So now we're like
- 1:54:27Speaker 9: one hundred picks into the draft and we're four. You know,
- 1:54:30Speaker 9: I get it, Kenyan Sadik. We want him at thirty one,
- 1:54:34Speaker 9: probably not going to be there at thirty one. I
- 1:54:35Speaker 9: think that's more of a realistic He's not going to
- 1:54:37Speaker 9: be there at thirty one. But once you get beyond
- 1:54:40Speaker 9: you know, a round or two. Yeah, I mean, who's
- 1:54:44Speaker 9: to say anybody thinks your Sanders are going to be available?
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: And that's thinking of him.
- 1:54:49Speaker 10: Strange was going at twenty second overall.
- 1:54:51Speaker 5: That's why. And I sometimes I think about even just
- 1:54:53Speaker 5: writing this at the top, like it's a ballpark, right,
- 1:54:57Speaker 5: Like I if they have to move up five spots
- 1:54:59Speaker 5: to take off Delping, so they've drafted them at ninety
- 1:55:02Speaker 5: instead of like maybe they would have to do.
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: They don't think the Patriots just you know, stacking our
- 1:55:07Speaker 4: board the way they do and horizontal.
- 1:55:10Speaker 2: It's a dream. This is how we would love it
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: to fall. It probably won't, but this is how we
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: would love it to fall.
- 1:55:16Speaker 5: Right, So, like, you know, I try to be realistic
- 1:55:18Speaker 5: I try to be in the ballpark, you know.
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: But got that? Did you get that?
- 1:55:23Speaker 5: Can I see it? Am? I like, if it's going
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: to be our board, then you know there's.
- 1:55:26Speaker 4: Some people, you know, even on the coaching staff, don't
- 1:55:29Speaker 4: see that.
- 1:55:30Speaker 5: I'm just saying, if it's if it's we, who's that?
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: Who's the coach that said? What are we thinking about?
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: You got loose slips? You you can't your own get
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: out of here? Eric in Rochester will end with this email.
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: After reading Evan and Mike's mock drafts, it got me thinking,
- 1:55:48Speaker 2: is the team better now than.
- 1:55:49Speaker 4: It was when it played in the Super Bowl in February?
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: Free agency seemed mostly to be replacing players that ended
- 1:55:54Speaker 4: up leaving, giving us mostly the equivalent player than the
- 1:55:57Speaker 4: one we let go.
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: I understand that right tackle is.
- 1:56:00Speaker 4: The need for the almost immediate future, But how can
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: the Patriots work the draft to provide the biggest injection
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: of talent to the team so they can keep competing
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: in the playoffs? Should they double dip at certain positions,
- 1:56:12Speaker 4: possibly try and trade up, or even work some trades
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: to get some more picks?
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: Well? Do you do you agree with his premise that
- 1:56:20Speaker 2: all they've done is replace players with equivalent players.
- 1:56:24Speaker 9: Not completely, but yeah, I think they've improved in some
- 1:56:27Speaker 9: spots and they've probably gotten worse than others. I think
- 1:56:29Speaker 9: the premise is I would say it's rational.
- 1:56:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I just I think at some point
- 1:56:34Speaker 6: your young core that is under contract has to pick
- 1:56:37Speaker 6: up the mantle and be the guys that determine how
- 1:56:40Speaker 6: good or not you are. And if every year you're
- 1:56:42Speaker 6: just looking to free agency to boost your every year,
- 1:56:46Speaker 6: like you know, I mean, we are still there, but
- 1:56:48Speaker 6: hopefully not for you know, next year. Where all right,
- 1:56:51Speaker 6: now you really have a core to build around, and
- 1:56:53Speaker 6: you know it's not wholesale replacements every single year you
- 1:56:56Speaker 6: have you know that it's your draft.
- 1:56:58Speaker 9: Well, you've got guys with the free agent It's like
- 1:57:00Speaker 9: Dreimond Jones might be better than Chase On Yeah, no,
- 1:57:04Speaker 9: he might not be. Like right now, I think fire
- 1:57:07Speaker 9: it's better than Jalen Hawkins, but like I think Sarah
- 1:57:10Speaker 9: Tucker's better than is better than Jared Wilson.
- 1:57:14Speaker 5: But if we chalk all those guys than Wilson to
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: kind of like washes right in terms of those positions,
- 1:57:20Speaker 5: I they try to get tougher offensively I think that
- 1:57:24Speaker 5: that's pretty clear. Gilliam and I don't care for Julian Hill,
- 1:57:28Speaker 5: you know, high paid guard in Baratt Tucker. Like they're
- 1:57:30Speaker 5: trying to be more physical, be a better run running team.
- 1:57:34Speaker 5: Rabel said it today. He wants it more consistent. We're consistent.
- 1:57:37Speaker 5: You know, they had these big plays that Trevion would hit,
- 1:57:39Speaker 5: but they wanted to be more consistent out running the football.
- 1:57:42Speaker 5: You know, those types of things.
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: But when they know we're going to run, we want
- 1:57:46Speaker 2: to run anyway.
- 1:57:47Speaker 5: But you know that the Dicks for Dobbs thing is
- 1:57:49Speaker 5: what still stands out like a sore thumb, like if
- 1:57:51Speaker 5: he's not as good as Stefan Diggs, then they're not
- 1:57:54Speaker 5: as good.
- 1:57:55Speaker 2: All Right, that's gonna be it for this edition of
- 1:57:58Speaker 2: Patriots and Filter Cash twenty two.
- 1:58:00Speaker 5: Tomorrow noon noon. Yes, okay, we're gonna do a So
- 1:58:03Speaker 5: we did a roster reset where we went through all
- 1:58:06Speaker 5: the positions on offense and defense. Last week. Barth goes, well,
- 1:58:09Speaker 5: we're gonna do special teams, right, and I was like,
- 1:58:12Speaker 5: I wasn't planning on it, to be honest with you.
- 1:58:14Speaker 5: And so tomorrow we're doing special teams because he's making
- 1:58:17Speaker 5: us do special do tune in for that.
- 1:58:20Speaker 9: Yeah, and Freddie, you and I get to welcome Mike
- 1:58:23Speaker 9: do So into the Hall of Fame Nomination Committee meeting
- 1:58:26Speaker 9: tomorrow first time. Yeah, we've got that at the newest
- 1:58:30Speaker 9: member of the Patriots.
- 1:58:33Speaker 10: Mike behave you.
- 1:58:34Speaker 2: You are a rookie, So rookies aren't allowed to.
- 1:58:36Speaker 9: Talk to talk, but we're supposed to bring donuts, right,
- 1:58:39Speaker 9: talk about feeling left all right, and we.
