- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello there, welcome to the ned Palty.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hi.
- 0:06Speaker 1: This is Nick and Nostasy, you lead editor and writer
- 0:09Speaker 1: on mal shadow Lord, and you're listening to aggressive negotiations. Well, hello,
- 0:20Speaker 1: and welcome to aggressive negotiations coming at you here. Well,
- 0:24Speaker 1: we're going to have to bring the data tape to
- 0:26Speaker 1: you from the surface of Mandalor because no signal right now.
- 0:31Speaker 1: We still haven't figured that out. But I am just
- 0:33Speaker 1: one of your hosts, Jedi Master Matt Rushing and with
- 0:36Speaker 1: me as he is every single week, the Jedi Master.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I wish I was John Mills.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Well, you know, Matt, I'll tell you it's a tremendous
- 0:45Speaker 2: burden being a bald Jedi Master, but I think you
- 0:48Speaker 2: could handle it too, So just give me the signal
- 0:50Speaker 2: and I'll fly out to you. I will shave your
- 0:52Speaker 2: head so that you can enjoy the freedom and aerodynamic
- 0:55Speaker 2: nature that comes with being bald. Just say word, man,
- 0:58Speaker 2: I'm out there.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I appreciate that. Well, the thing nobody wants to see.
- 1:04Speaker 1: But you can find us all over social media under
- 1:07Speaker 1: the name the Jedi Masters on x Twitter. The network
- 1:12Speaker 1: at Joint Nerd Party is also on x Twitter. You

- 1:24Speaker 2: John.
- 1:24Speaker 1: We're reaching the end here, which is so exciting of
- 1:28Speaker 1: the Mandalarian season three, and you know we're going to
- 1:31Speaker 1: be discussing the return, which wraps up basically, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 1: everything that we've been working on with this show up
- 1:39Speaker 1: until this point. We are going to bring all of
- 1:42Speaker 1: the story points to a close in a lot of ways,
- 1:45Speaker 1: especially by the time that we end this episode. And
- 1:48Speaker 1: so I wanted to ask you this. Okay, we we
- 1:50Speaker 1: start the episode with axe Wolves still traveling into the
- 1:56Speaker 1: atmosphere and he's able to make contact just enough. I
- 2:04Speaker 1: have to ask you, is that just too convenient or
- 2:07Speaker 1: does it work for you?
- 2:08Speaker 2: Too convenient? But I was able to move past it.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It was a bit too convenient, but I was okay
- 2:19Speaker 2: with it where I said okay, And I think probably
- 2:22Speaker 2: because contextually I made peace with it from the sense
- 2:27Speaker 2: that I know this is the last episode and they're
- 2:31Speaker 2: pressing the gas because they wasted some time earlier in
- 2:34Speaker 2: the season. Okay, I think had this been like we
- 2:39Speaker 2: discussed last episode, a three episode arc for the finale,
- 2:48Speaker 2: you would have had more time to do this, but
- 2:50Speaker 2: they had to go in shorthand am I being too harsh?
- 2:53Speaker 2: Do you agree?
- 2:56Speaker 1: I mean, look, I can rapize it in the sense that,
- 3:01Speaker 1: you know, if you're just writing a jet pack, it's
- 3:04Speaker 1: going to take a while to get out of the
- 3:06Speaker 1: you know, atmosphere of a planet. You know you're going fast,
- 3:11Speaker 1: but you're not going that fast. You know, we're not
- 3:14Speaker 1: going ship speed. So you know, I can I can
- 3:17Speaker 1: rationalize it in that way, and it doesn't feel that bad,
- 3:20Speaker 1: you know. But no, I think in some ways you're
- 3:24Speaker 1: right in that sense that yes, but they also set
- 3:32Speaker 1: it up in the previous episode, so it was just like,
- 3:35Speaker 1: you know, okay, I get what you're doing. It's fine.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna let it go because that's what we need
- 3:40Speaker 1: to do.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Do you think it's possible that this is one of
- 3:44Speaker 2: those bits that works better when you have to wait
- 3:46Speaker 2: a week between episodes, because you're coming into it having
- 3:49Speaker 2: felt the passage of time, whereas on a rewatch you're
- 3:52Speaker 2: watching it in quicker succession, and so it cuts that
- 3:55Speaker 2: dramatic thing, like they counted on the feeling of I've
- 3:58Speaker 2: been waiting seven days feeling like it's more extended and
- 4:03Speaker 2: and you know, more of a trial to get through.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I think that's as a good point.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And so you know this this episode, you know, picks
- 4:19Speaker 1: up right where we left off in the sense of
- 4:21Speaker 1: we we know, uh, Gideon's desire right his his desire
- 4:28Speaker 1: is to turn himself into a force wielding maniac that
- 4:33Speaker 1: will also be able to create unstoppable troopers with best
- 4:39Speaker 1: gar armor, and so he can have the best of
- 4:42Speaker 1: both worlds, which he can then utilize to reconquer the
- 4:47Speaker 1: galaxy in the name of the Empire. And I got
- 4:51Speaker 1: to ask you this, Ah, do you feel like that
- 4:57Speaker 1: the season then had also done a good enough job
- 5:01Speaker 1: of laying that groundwork of just Gideon and his plan
- 5:07Speaker 1: and what he's been after this whole time, so that
- 5:09Speaker 1: we finally kind of have all the pieces coming together
- 5:12Speaker 1: in that story.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I think that all of the elements are there, but
- 5:20Speaker 2: they are told too far apart. The Doctor Pershing episode
- 5:28Speaker 2: is so early on in the season that I think
- 5:34Speaker 2: there's too much distance. I think it's easy to sit
- 5:38Speaker 2: there because they make reference to Doctor Pershing in the spies.
- 5:43Speaker 2: We know that Gideon's been working with him, but it's
- 5:48Speaker 2: told over to too long a time span. In my opinion,
- 5:53Speaker 2: I think that again, casual watchers have to be reminded,
- 5:59Speaker 2: Oh remember Pershing was working on cloning. Like this is
- 6:03Speaker 2: where I think the lure gets a little jumbled. I'm
- 6:06Speaker 2: delighted by it because they mentioned Project Necromancer last time,
- 6:12Speaker 2: and I've got to tie in now with the bad
- 6:14Speaker 2: Batch because Gideon is carrying forward with the Kaminoans. We're
- 6:21Speaker 2: trying to do on Sidius' behalf with Omega. I'm like,
- 6:26Speaker 2: that's phenomenal. I love it raises some questions about the
- 6:31Speaker 2: origin of Grogo again because you know, oh, okay, but
- 6:38Speaker 2: it is like it's I'm so torn. I'm so torn
- 6:44Speaker 2: because I think, as from an objective standpoint, you know,
- 6:47Speaker 2: they kind of fumble the storytelling here a little bit
- 6:50Speaker 2: by having so many parts of it stretched out and
- 6:54Speaker 2: interrupted by pirates and and Jack Black and stuff like that. Again,
- 7:02Speaker 2: it's a storytelling hump at the script level. But as
- 7:06Speaker 2: a deep dive nerdy fan, I remember the first time
- 7:10Speaker 2: I watched it and even watching it, you know, in
- 7:13Speaker 2: quicker succession with my kid, you know, it's like, oh cool, cool, Yes,
- 7:18Speaker 2: he's cloning himself. He's trying to make them Jedi. I
- 7:22Speaker 2: almost wish it had been successful in the sense that
- 7:25Speaker 2: like they would have come out and turned on him
- 7:28Speaker 2: because they would have all been jerks like him sort
- 7:31Speaker 2: of thing. But also you see that he succeeded. So
- 7:36Speaker 2: do we get pointed toward the way of Snoke where
- 7:40Speaker 2: it's like, oh, well, yeah, the breakthrough yep, yeah, No.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I mean, look, this season in this series, as well
- 7:49Speaker 1: as the Bad Batcher doing such heavy lifting to try
- 7:52Speaker 1: and make some sense of the sequel trilogy. So kudos
- 7:55Speaker 1: to them for that. But I think the beauty of
- 7:58Speaker 1: that is that it actually tells a great story or
- 8:00Speaker 1: here right, you know, and it creates a terrifying villain
- 8:05Speaker 1: for the Mandalorians to need to take out because without
- 8:08Speaker 1: doing that, as we mentioned last episode, this is gonna
- 8:12Speaker 1: be bad for the entire galaxy, not just Mandalorians and
- 8:17Speaker 1: so and the fact that he was able to do
- 8:21Speaker 1: this thing finally with the clones that were in that room,
- 8:26Speaker 1: you know, he alludes to the fact that they're there
- 8:30Speaker 1: will exactly what he wanted, and so, okay, that's that's terrifying.
- 8:39Speaker 1: So yeah, I I do agree with you, though it's again,
- 8:42Speaker 1: it's just it comes down to the season needing to
- 8:44Speaker 1: be edited in a way that all of these stories
- 8:48Speaker 1: flow together more readily and more easily, so that the
- 8:52Speaker 1: connections feel more organic and less kind of discombobulated from
- 9:01Speaker 1: one another, you know, Like you mentioned the long disconnection
- 9:05Speaker 1: between the pershing episode at the beginning of the season
- 9:08Speaker 1: and getting to these last two episodes. Yeah, that's a
- 9:11Speaker 1: long time, you know, especially when you're doing week release
- 9:14Speaker 1: television as well. So if you're not interweaving the stories enough,
- 9:20Speaker 1: you know, it can be difficult to kind of just remember, oh, yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 1: that's what happened. And it's like you're also connecting to
- 9:27Speaker 1: a season, other seasons of the show that took place
- 9:30Speaker 1: like three years ago. That's the other part of this.
- 9:33Speaker 1: And yes, you can watch it again on streaming. I
- 9:36Speaker 1: get that, But still there's a lot of things kind
- 9:41Speaker 1: of at play here that don't do you any favors,
- 9:47Speaker 1: right when when you write a season of television like
- 9:50Speaker 1: the third season the way you.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Have, yes, And I think another part of that is
- 9:55Speaker 2: they got a little more complex in season two, but
- 9:58Speaker 2: it was still pretty focus. I have Grogu, Grogu going,
- 10:04Speaker 2: getting Grogu to place to do things. First season is
- 10:10Speaker 2: I have Grogu. I'm protecting Grogu. They want to take
- 10:13Speaker 2: grog away from me. I have to protect him and
- 10:18Speaker 2: save him. Very straightforward storytelling. This is lore storytelling. And additionally,
- 10:28Speaker 2: I think it's difficult and this is what the movie
- 10:33Speaker 2: Mandalorian and Grogu does better because it has to be
- 10:36Speaker 2: more focused because it's only two hours is Grogu without
- 10:44Speaker 2: having to protect Chase. After save Grogu, your main thread
- 10:54Speaker 2: for what people were watching for is gone. It's tougher
- 10:59Speaker 2: to follow this because the audience has to keep up
- 11:04Speaker 2: with Oh well, I'm trying to get our people back
- 11:07Speaker 2: to Mandalor, and I'm trying to rejoin the Covert, and
- 11:09Speaker 2: I'm trying to get myself baptized again so that i
- 11:13Speaker 2: can be forgiven for breaking the creed, and I'm trying
- 11:17Speaker 2: to protect Navarro from the pirates, and I'm trying to Like,
- 11:21Speaker 2: there's so much and I'm trying to that. Well, I
- 11:26Speaker 2: think that's it is. There's no focus to the season
- 11:29Speaker 2: until these last two episodes, and it's too late to
- 11:33Speaker 2: have this type of focus.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it is where it really comes into focus, right,
- 11:39Speaker 1: And you know, in the sense of like we're bringing
- 11:43Speaker 1: together the three seasons, you know, and I think another
- 11:48Speaker 1: thing that happens there. I'm watching this with my wife
- 11:51Speaker 1: and you know, Dinn calls R five and we're like, wait,
- 11:57Speaker 1: was our five just left on mandalor right, like, you know,
- 12:01Speaker 1: And so that's another one of those places where it's
- 12:03Speaker 1: it's the editing of the season. It's hard to remember
- 12:07Speaker 1: that R five just got left on mandelor he never
- 12:11Speaker 1: he never made it off or did he? And it's
- 12:14Speaker 1: like that's one of those things as well where it
- 12:18Speaker 1: becomes a little bit you know, frustrating with the way
- 12:22Speaker 1: that the season has worked.
- 12:25Speaker 2: And so.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I you know, I don't want this though, because
- 12:31Speaker 1: like I feel like there's a lot of nitpicks that
- 12:35Speaker 1: we're talking about with with this episode, but they really
- 12:38Speaker 1: don't have anything to do with the episode. There's so
- 12:40Speaker 1: much more to do with the season itself.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but but they do have a bit to do
- 12:46Speaker 2: with the episode because of the fact that they're there's it.
- 12:51Speaker 2: This is better than the previous episode in terms of
- 12:55Speaker 2: its apportionment of time, and it's the self contained story elements.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I think that there is a focus here in this
- 13:08Speaker 2: episode it's very clear what I'm trying to achieve and
- 13:12Speaker 2: what I'm along for the ride for. Because you've put
- 13:15Speaker 2: everybody into extreme danger along with Groku, and you have
- 13:22Speaker 2: these you know that you have all of these different
- 13:26Speaker 2: fights going on, you have all of these different things.
- 13:28Speaker 2: I think it's cut together very, very well. I'm going
- 13:32Speaker 2: to skip ahead really quick. We can always come back
- 13:34Speaker 2: to other stuff, but I'm going to skip ahead, and
- 13:36Speaker 2: I have to ask, do you think the destruction of
- 13:42Speaker 2: the Dark Saber carried as much weight for people who
- 13:50Speaker 2: never watch the animated series and were introduced to it
- 13:54Speaker 2: in this series? Do you think the destruction of it
- 13:58Speaker 2: carried the same weight that it did for somebody like
- 14:01Speaker 2: us who first got to know the Dark Saber in
- 14:05Speaker 2: the Clone Wars and there's this end of a long
- 14:08Speaker 2: journey of this thing. Do you think that that impact
- 14:13Speaker 2: landed as well for the casual fans.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think And it feels like to me,
- 14:22Speaker 1: you know, having just rewatched season two with you and
- 14:25Speaker 1: then being in season three, I feel like the show
- 14:29Speaker 1: has done a good job with building the lore of
- 14:32Speaker 1: the Dark Saber for the most part, and the desire
- 14:36Speaker 1: then that we you know, had learned about in the
- 14:39Speaker 1: last episode with exactly what went down with this Night
- 14:44Speaker 1: of one thousand Tiers and this desire that Gideon has
- 14:49Speaker 1: for the Dark Saber, and I think it's accentuated here
- 14:53Speaker 1: by learning these last two episodes that you know, his
- 14:57Speaker 1: desire is to be for sensitive, so makes sense not
- 15:01Speaker 1: only why he would want a lightsaber, but he wants
- 15:05Speaker 1: the lightsaber that represents the Mandalorian culture too. And I
- 15:10Speaker 1: think all of that really works on its own terms
- 15:13Speaker 1: in the sense that I do feel that this show
- 15:17Speaker 1: as a whole has done a good job of building
- 15:21Speaker 1: its own mythology of this object, so that when it
- 15:27Speaker 1: is destroyed, it is kind of like this moment of Oh,
- 15:29Speaker 1: my goodness, like this really important thing.
- 15:32Speaker 2: You know.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Is this going to then impact Bocaton and the Mandalorians
- 15:38Speaker 1: that she's just been able to bring together? Finally? Is
- 15:42Speaker 1: this going to create disunity and disharmony once again once
- 15:47Speaker 1: this is all over? You know? And so I do
- 15:50Speaker 1: think there's enough of that. I think, you know, as
- 15:55Speaker 1: we've mentioned too many times, if you had found a
- 15:59Speaker 1: way to, you know, bring this season to us in
- 16:03Speaker 1: a more cohesive way, I think it could have been
- 16:05Speaker 1: even better. But I think that they do a decent
- 16:09Speaker 1: job of building their own mythology for people who don't
- 16:14Speaker 1: know it from say the Clone Wars, like you get
- 16:16Speaker 1: the sense that this is incredibly important. Of course, it
- 16:20Speaker 1: means so much more to us, of course, But I
- 16:23Speaker 1: think they do it a good what's your thought on that?
- 16:26Speaker 2: No, Yeah, I mean I think that I think it's fine.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I do. I mean, I think I sort of showed
- 16:32Speaker 2: a little leg in the way I set up the
- 16:34Speaker 2: question where I think it didn't land as as strongly
- 16:39Speaker 2: as it should have could have overall, but I think
- 16:45Speaker 2: that it lands well enough, and that it lands well enough,
- 16:49Speaker 2: especially in the context of the fact that we see
- 16:55Speaker 2: that the way forward for the Mandalorians you had mentioned
- 16:59Speaker 2: when we were talking about this, there's maybe a thousand left,
- 17:02Speaker 2: and we find out that the children of the Watch
- 17:06Speaker 2: we've now graduated into in a very sneaky way, the
- 17:10Speaker 2: Mandalorians that we read about in the Expanded Universe through
- 17:13Speaker 2: the nineties of Blood doesn't matter. Adoption is the way
- 17:18Speaker 2: that they're going to go forward, and adoption found family
- 17:22Speaker 2: is a huge continuing thread in Star Wars. So the
- 17:26Speaker 2: Mandalorians have now found a way forward where they no
- 17:28Speaker 2: longer need a dark Saber because they're not about a
- 17:34Speaker 2: cultural unity sort of thing. It's about your culture changing
- 17:38Speaker 2: and expanding and welcoming people in to build a stronger culture.
- 17:44Speaker 2: At least that's the way I take it. My next
- 17:48Speaker 2: question to you would actually be do you think Gideon's
- 17:52Speaker 2: really dead? Do you think that he's as dead as
- 17:55Speaker 2: they need him to be, but if they decide to
- 17:57Speaker 2: do a season four they could bring him back still well?
- 18:00Speaker 2: Or do you think this is it? This is the
- 18:02Speaker 2: end of Gideon.
- 18:04Speaker 1: So I mean the moment that he dies in this
- 18:08Speaker 1: fiery blast, he does not have his helmet on. True,
- 18:14Speaker 1: So you know, I don't see how you survive that inferno.
- 18:22Speaker 1: You're exposed, Yes, exactly. There was a lot of dancing
- 18:27Speaker 1: happening in the background and a lot of hip thrusts,
- 18:30Speaker 1: and that's really what got him. No. Look, I just
- 18:34Speaker 1: I think that he is dead, and I think that
- 18:38Speaker 1: the beauty of the Shadow Collective in the previous episode
- 18:41Speaker 1: is it allows us to understand that there are more
- 18:44Speaker 1: of these guys out there, and it already set up
- 18:47Speaker 1: that the main threat, the biggest threat of the galaxy
- 18:51Speaker 1: is the one we're not quite sure where he is,
- 18:53Speaker 1: and that's Admiral Thron and of course Ahsoka is going
- 18:56Speaker 1: to pick that up and run with it. And and
- 18:59Speaker 1: the goal, it sounds like in some ways at some
- 19:02Speaker 1: point is we're going to bring all these characters together
- 19:04Speaker 1: to fight him, I think. And so you know, I
- 19:09Speaker 1: I think get In can be dead and should be
- 19:13Speaker 1: dead at this point, and they should just allow that
- 19:16Speaker 1: to be the case, because it also it lets the
- 19:21Speaker 1: show mature and grow in the way.
- 19:24Speaker 2: That I think.
- 19:25Speaker 1: You know, watching this was fascinating after watching Mandoin Grogu,
- 19:29Speaker 1: because I was really struck about the way in which
- 19:34Speaker 1: Grogu feels so much older in the Mando Learning Grogu.
- 19:38Speaker 1: If you've watched this episode, he feels so much more
- 19:42Speaker 1: childish in this, you know, just even with the vocalizations
- 19:46Speaker 1: and even if he's kind of like actions and everything
- 19:51Speaker 1: about him feels slightly more childish. Right, But you watch
- 19:56Speaker 1: this and you watch Mandal Learning Grogu, and you're like, man,
- 19:58Speaker 1: that character just feels like it really has progressed. He
- 20:03Speaker 1: has grown, he has matured. And I really liked that,
- 20:08Speaker 1: And so for me, I think he should be dead
- 20:11Speaker 1: and and and so I do you feel the same
- 20:15Speaker 1: or You're like, they'll bring him back. They want No.
- 20:17Speaker 2: I think Gideon's played it played out, Gideon's done. There,
- 20:21Speaker 2: there's no there's nowhere to go with a Gideon character
- 20:24Speaker 2: at this point. They've they've you know, we didn't think
- 20:28Speaker 2: he was dead at the end of season one. You know,
- 20:32Speaker 2: he immediately comes back and like this has all been
- 20:38Speaker 2: or season two, like this is all building toward. This
- 20:41Speaker 2: is the character is dead, he's done, he's finished. We've
- 20:45Speaker 2: ridden this plot line as far as we can. I
- 20:49Speaker 2: think the only way forward if you're going to bring
- 20:52Speaker 2: the Imperials into it, which I kind of hope they
- 20:54Speaker 2: don't because I think Mandalorian and Grogu has proven that
- 20:58Speaker 2: you don't need the Imperials to be the bad guys anymore.
- 21:01Speaker 2: But if they were to choose the Imperials, and it's
- 21:05Speaker 2: all got to depend on you know, Ahsoka season two,
- 21:07Speaker 2: But if they were to choose the Imperials, I think
- 21:12Speaker 2: you have a very fascinating Brendel Huck's connection to Pursue
- 21:21Speaker 2: or play and if you want to tie it in
- 21:23Speaker 2: to Thron, yeah, absolutely one or both of them, because
- 21:26Speaker 2: they they definitely appear in the collective to be getting
- 21:29Speaker 2: along with each other pretty well, and I think that
- 21:34Speaker 2: that could be interesting, but it would have to be
- 21:37Speaker 2: very careful to very clearly point us in the direction
- 21:41Speaker 2: of lower building without alienating the casual fans who are
- 21:46Speaker 2: getting picked up by the Mandalorian and Grogu.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, like, I think one of the things
- 21:54Speaker 1: as well, that you know, we connect with the sequel trilogy,
- 21:58Speaker 1: of course, is the Pretor and Guard And man, did
- 22:02Speaker 1: they love the armor.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I love that It's so so very good. And the fighting.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Sequence with Mando was great, you know. I thought it
- 22:12Speaker 1: was really well done. Uh. And so it's one of
- 22:15Speaker 1: those things where I I appreciate so much when we
- 22:21Speaker 1: can work to bring the Star Wars saga together and
- 22:26Speaker 1: make it feel more cohesive, you know, And I appreciate that,
- 22:31Speaker 1: uh when possible. They do that with this show, and
- 22:36Speaker 1: I think that they do a really great job of it.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And this this you know, what did you think about
- 22:48Speaker 1: the end of the episode where you know, Grogu gets
- 22:53Speaker 1: adopted and the Great Forge is reignited, and then you know,
- 22:59Speaker 1: Mando goes and gets himself a new job.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I like the fact that Mando gets a new job.
- 23:06Speaker 2: The show is declaring that we've played this out. We're
- 23:10Speaker 2: moving on now. I appreciate that it is very much
- 23:16Speaker 2: an end of three season arc. It's not an end
- 23:20Speaker 2: of this season arc. It's an end of three season arc.
- 23:23Speaker 2: And I'm happy with that. We have given the Mandalorians
- 23:27Speaker 2: as happy and ending as we can. And I honestly
- 23:31Speaker 2: think that ending with Mando sitting on the porch with
- 23:35Speaker 2: his kid in the front yard playing is beautiful because
- 23:43Speaker 2: again it's the found family thing. It's Mando is retired.
- 23:46Speaker 2: My one question to you would be, with all of
- 23:50Speaker 2: the culmination of how big a deal it is to
- 23:52Speaker 2: go back to Mandalorian. He identifies as a Mandalorian and
- 23:55Speaker 2: everything is the Mandalorian. Does it feel organic enough for
- 24:01Speaker 2: you that he then decides to leave Mandalor and do
- 24:05Speaker 2: something else. Yeah?
- 24:08Speaker 1: I thought that they actually did a really good job
- 24:11Speaker 1: with that, because, you know, the Armorer tells him, you know,
- 24:15Speaker 1: this is your son, he's your apprentice and you the
- 24:19Speaker 1: same thing that happened for you needs to happen for him.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:23Speaker 1: He needs to be taken on adventures so he can
- 24:26Speaker 1: learn to do the job. Uh. And I thought it
- 24:30Speaker 1: was great, you know, I really did. Yeah, And I
- 24:34Speaker 1: and and what was beautiful about it is that I
- 24:37Speaker 1: think that it sets up what they actually do in
- 24:40Speaker 1: the film perfectly, because the very thing that the armorer
- 24:46Speaker 1: said to Din about what Grogu needs is what they
- 24:51Speaker 1: do in that movie. That whole movie then becomes about
- 24:55Speaker 1: Grogu being on an adventure that helps him grow and
- 24:59Speaker 1: begin to take more responsibility of what it truly means
- 25:02Speaker 1: to be in this life that his dad has chosen
- 25:07Speaker 1: and that he has chosen as well.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I'm glad you point toward that because you mentioned it
- 25:11Speaker 2: earlier in the discussion, and I think you're absolutely right
- 25:14Speaker 2: where you can see growth through this season very clearly,
- 25:19Speaker 2: and I think you then see the leap into Mandalorian
- 25:22Speaker 2: and Grogu. Even in the very first adventure, the young
- 25:25Speaker 2: Grogu that we're used to wouldn't have hidden in the beginning,
- 25:31Speaker 2: he wouldn't have been reliable enough to jump out and
- 25:33Speaker 2: stop the mouse Troid. He would have done things a
- 25:38Speaker 2: bit differently, and then through the course of that film,
- 25:42Speaker 2: I think this this ending point for Grogu points toward,
- 25:48Speaker 2: like you're saying, where he is in the Mandalorian and
- 25:50Speaker 2: Grogu movie. And so yeah, I think that my one
- 25:58Speaker 2: question for you. To wrap up our discussion of season
- 26:01Speaker 2: three is do you come out of this? And now,
- 26:07Speaker 2: of course we have the context of the movie. Do
- 26:10Speaker 2: you want a season four or do you want them
- 26:14Speaker 2: instead to remain focused on telling stories by little leaps
- 26:20Speaker 2: with more movies instead of seasons.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I don't think I can answer that question until I
- 26:31Speaker 1: see what they're going to do with Ahsoka season two,
- 26:34Speaker 1: because I think that that is going to lay the
- 26:36Speaker 1: groundwork for a lot of where Dave wants to go.
- 26:41Speaker 1: And my guess is is that it will also be
- 26:46Speaker 1: answered as question at celebration next year, when they most
- 26:52Speaker 1: likely announce the things that they're going to be doing
- 26:56Speaker 1: with all of these characters that we've been seeing, all
- 27:00Speaker 1: the animationtion stuff that might be coming, you know. So
- 27:04Speaker 1: I don't know. I would not mind seeing another season.
- 27:13Speaker 1: I also wouldn't mind seeing another film. What I want
- 27:17Speaker 1: them to do personally is I want them to choose
- 27:21Speaker 1: what works best for the stories that they want to tell.
- 27:24Speaker 1: If that's in a movie, do it, If that's in
- 27:26Speaker 1: a season, do it. I'm I'm okay with either, but
- 27:31Speaker 1: I do think that we need to make sure and
- 27:37Speaker 1: I think Dave's well aware of this. You know, and
- 27:39Speaker 1: and and the rest of his team is well aware
- 27:42Speaker 1: of this. We do need there to be Star Wars
- 27:45Speaker 1: movies in the theater every two three years, right, and
- 27:49Speaker 1: just one. We don't need many. We just you know,
- 27:53Speaker 1: one movie every two years, you know exactly. And if
- 27:58Speaker 1: you do that, I think that it's fantastic. So that's
- 28:03Speaker 1: my feeling on it. I'm not beholden to one or
- 28:07Speaker 1: the other. I'm just beholden to what's best for the
- 28:09Speaker 1: overall structure of Star Wars moving forward. And I'm just
- 28:15Speaker 1: I'm very much in the camp of yes, we have
- 28:18Speaker 1: to make sure that Star Wars has a great presence
- 28:21Speaker 1: on the big screen. And if that is best helped
- 28:26Speaker 1: then by Mando and Grogu having more adventures on the
- 28:28Speaker 1: big screen, great, do it. If something else is that,
- 28:33Speaker 1: do that, you know.
- 28:34Speaker 2: I think that the final, the final point for me
- 28:38Speaker 2: in context of that, is that whatever they choose, that
- 28:44Speaker 2: is going to be the fate of the stories going forward.
- 28:50Speaker 2: I don't think that you can successfully leap to the
- 28:52Speaker 2: big screen, step back to a show, and then go
- 28:56Speaker 2: back to the big screen again. I think they shot
- 29:00Speaker 2: their shot, it went well enough, and now if they
- 29:05Speaker 2: choose movies only going forward. That's what they gotta do
- 29:08Speaker 2: if they choose to go back to streaming. I think
- 29:12Speaker 2: they're making a declaration that they're coming back to streaming
- 29:15Speaker 2: and staying there, because I don't think that it would
- 29:20Speaker 2: work to flip flop between the two, because you will
- 29:23Speaker 2: you will have a substantial portion of the audience to say,
- 29:27Speaker 2: I'm watching it on stream. I'm I'm just waiting for
- 29:30Speaker 2: it to be released on streaming, and you won't get
- 29:32Speaker 2: the movie theater thing going for you. But what you
- 29:35Speaker 2: can get if you if you don't want to wait
- 29:40Speaker 2: for next year's celebration to talk to Matt about all
- 29:45Speaker 2: of these great things with the Mandalorian, we're going to
- 29:48Speaker 2: point where you can talk to him now. After Matt
- 29:52Speaker 2: you give your rating for this episode and the full season.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I'm going to give this episode of four as well.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I really enjoy it. I think it brings together the
- 30:05Speaker 1: season and just the series. Well we didn't talk about this,
- 30:11Speaker 1: but I think the effects work in this episode is
- 30:15Speaker 1: really good. They did a great job. You did not
- 30:19Speaker 1: have some of the issues we were talking about with
- 30:21Speaker 1: the volume really in this episode, and I think mainly
- 30:25Speaker 1: that's because they were in confined sets, and it just
- 30:27Speaker 1: it was great. I loved it. So yeah, this is
- 30:31Speaker 1: a four for me, and I'm really happy with that.
- 30:33Speaker 1: The entire season as a whole, I think I have
- 30:40Speaker 1: to give it a three out of five. And that's
- 30:46Speaker 1: just because there is as good there is strength in
- 30:50Speaker 1: the in the strongest episodes, but it truly is hampered
- 30:54Speaker 1: by a season that just is not functionally put together
- 31:02Speaker 1: in a way that is as cohesive and riveting as
- 31:07Speaker 1: it could have been if it had been worked together better,
- 31:13Speaker 1: you know, if we had just done the job of
- 31:19Speaker 1: pulling together the story and putting together the story in
- 31:23Speaker 1: a way that weaved all the storylines so that you
- 31:28Speaker 1: were hopping from story to story in a way that
- 31:33Speaker 1: felt like you're climbing up a ladder, you know, instead
- 31:37Speaker 1: of like, oh, it's like I went into a split
- 31:40Speaker 1: level house and I went up, and then I had
- 31:44Speaker 1: to go down, and then I had to go back
- 31:45Speaker 1: up again, and then I had to go sideways, you know,
- 31:47Speaker 1: and it's just like, yeah, it's a bad example anyway.
- 31:50Speaker 1: So that's that's what I got. What about you, John,
- 31:54Speaker 1: I like, what are you?
- 31:55Speaker 2: I like your example because it sounds like that house
- 31:58Speaker 2: that supposedly is like all haunted with likes to Nowhere
- 32:00Speaker 2: and stuff like that, which I think you have stumbled
- 32:03Speaker 2: on an apropos comparison for the season. For this episode,
- 32:08Speaker 2: it is a solid four, very solid for really enjoyed
- 32:13Speaker 2: this episode, and I think it's because it's so focused
- 32:16Speaker 2: and it's action packed, and I agree with you, the
- 32:18Speaker 2: effects work is really good here, really really good. I
- 32:25Speaker 2: think that the season as a whole, I'm going to
- 32:27Speaker 2: actually wind up being more forgiving. Hey, it happens every
- 32:32Speaker 2: so often where I'm a little more forgiving than Matt.
- 32:34Speaker 2: It's very rare, but it happens. But I'm gonna come
- 32:37Speaker 2: down it's a tiny bit more forgiving three and a
- 32:39Speaker 2: half because I'm always very forgiving when you can stick
- 32:45Speaker 2: the landing. And while this is not like a perfect dismount,
- 32:50Speaker 2: considering how I expected the season to end from what
- 32:54Speaker 2: came before to land it this well, I'm significant impressed
- 33:02Speaker 2: that I still got two episodes where I said, you know, I,
- 33:06Speaker 2: I had a heck of a good time watching those. Yeah,
- 33:09Speaker 2: And so this season gets a three and a half
- 33:12Speaker 2: on the strength of just a strong landing when the
- 33:16Speaker 2: rest of it was so uneven, so as we teased,
- 33:21Speaker 2: people are undoubtedly going to want to talk to you
- 33:24Speaker 2: online about your reaction to the Mandalorian Season three. Matt,
- 33:28Speaker 2: where can they reach out to you and find you online?
- 33:31Speaker 1: Absolutely, and thank you to I've had lots of people
- 33:36Speaker 1: just there were some things that I was tweeting about,
- 33:38Speaker 1: some frustrations with what we talked about on review with
- 33:42Speaker 1: just the industry in general and that kind of stuff.
- 33:44Speaker 1: And I had some really good interactions with some people
- 33:47Speaker 1: about just seeing that other people are frustrated with this
- 33:49Speaker 1: stuff as well. So thank you for the interactions. It
- 33:53Speaker 1: was really nice to see. Yeah, you know, so social
- 33:56Speaker 1: media doesn't have to be a cess pool. So check
- 33:58Speaker 1: me out on social media and the name Matt Rushing
- 34:00Speaker 1: zero two. If I'm on that platform, that's where you'll
- 34:03Speaker 1: find me under that name. Of course, you know, I
- 34:06Speaker 1: even inspired a blog post by a good friend of mine,
- 34:09Speaker 1: so maybe you'll find that and read that. You can
- 34:11Speaker 1: also find me over on the nerd Party network here
- 34:15Speaker 1: without posts, talk about every single chapter the Harry Potter
- 34:18Speaker 1: series over on the TFM network with the crossovers we
- 34:21Speaker 1: do with the six or two clip, you'll find me there.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Talked about all of these franchises we love, plus a
- 34:26Speaker 1: lot of great star trek talk with my good friend
- 34:28Speaker 1: Chris Jones, so please check all that out. But John,
- 34:32Speaker 1: you know, I know that people are going to want
- 34:33Speaker 1: to check out the Kessel Junkie blog, which has just
- 34:39Speaker 1: come back out of retirement with I would say, some
- 34:42Speaker 1: absolute bangers. So where can people find you?
- 34:46Speaker 2: Careful now, because the Kessel Junkie blog is run for
- 34:50Speaker 2: free and from the benefit of spare time, and it's
- 34:53Speaker 2: just been a blessing that I've been able to fire
- 34:54Speaker 2: off a couple of posts without losing too much sleep.
- 34:58Speaker 2: But yeah, thank you Matt for the shout outppreciate that.
- 35:02Speaker 2: And of course you can find me as Castle Chunkie
- 35:04Speaker 2: on your social network of choice. Letterbox and Goodreads are
- 35:07Speaker 2: my favorites because I love talking about movies and books,
- 35:11Speaker 2: and you can find me here on the network, co
- 35:13Speaker 2: hosting House Lights with Tristan Riddell and Darren Moser, where
- 35:18Speaker 2: we talk about movies of all things, but we have
- 35:21Speaker 2: a really good time doing it, and we have some
- 35:24Speaker 2: very spirited conversations because alternatingly, I find out that Tristan
- 35:29Speaker 2: is dead inside and Darren doesn't agree with me, and
- 35:32Speaker 2: both of those are very bad things. So you know,
- 35:35Speaker 2: I'm going to keep trying to rehab them. But Matt,
- 35:37Speaker 2: before I go back to trying to rehab them, I
- 35:41Speaker 2: need to go and try to market these stuffed animal
- 35:45Speaker 2: versions of us that we're going to start trying to
- 35:48Speaker 2: sell at a galactic scale. And so I think it's
- 35:51Speaker 2: time to close these negotiations.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Well, John, negotiations are closed.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Join the Revolution, Join the Nerd Party.
