- 0:57Speaker 1: What's up and welcome.
- 1:05Speaker 4: To Movie Meltdown. I am Brian. I'm Greg.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I'm Marlena.
- 1:09Speaker 4: And we're back for another fun-filled session. We're also back
- 1:13Speaker 4: in our original studio space here for the first time in,
- 1:18Speaker 4: I don't know, like five months or more. It's been
- 1:21Speaker 4: a long time. We've been traveling from one place to
- 1:23Speaker 4: the other to do a show, so we're back in
- 1:26Speaker 4: our now-painted and officially kick-ass studio space. It's kick-ass. Unexpected decor. See,
- 1:36Speaker 4: once again, it shows you who you're dealing with here.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Not everybody would decide to decorate a room in their house,
- 1:42Speaker 4: to devote an entire room of their house to this
- 1:46Speaker 4: sideshow theme. But, yeah... If someone had to.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Do it, it was going to be you.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Sideshow freaks, it's the way to go. The Odyssey studio,
- 1:55Speaker 4: as it were, is now up and running again. Yep,
- 1:58Speaker 4: pretty awesome. All right, I guess we can head into
- 2:03Speaker 4: the geek activities. This past week, I, again, finally got
- 2:09Speaker 4: around to watching a movie everybody else saw last year.
- 2:11Speaker 4: I watched Regret. Okay.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Uh and i have the the only point i want
- 2:16Speaker 4: to make i mean most of it i guess has
- 2:17Speaker 4: been said before but the point that i want to
- 2:19Speaker 4: make is it's all about hayley steinfeld i'm like all
- 2:23Speaker 4: the the praise and attention was was heaped on to
- 2:26Speaker 4: uh freaking lebowski boy there jeff bridges bridges yeah why
- 2:31Speaker 4: why he got all the attention i'm not saying his
- 2:34Speaker 4: performance isn't good it's just it's the showy one you
- 2:37Speaker 4: know it's like And to me, it's almost the one
- 2:40Speaker 4: that you could fall into relatively easy. I mean, he's
- 2:43Speaker 4: got the crazy drunken slur. He's, you know, he's got
- 2:46Speaker 4: the limp. So I'm like, to me, once you're in
- 2:48Speaker 4: that costume, you're in that mode, it would be pretty
- 2:51Speaker 4: easy to do that. You know, it would almost be
- 2:53Speaker 4: pretty easy to fall into that character and do what
- 2:55Speaker 4: he has to do. Whereas like Haley Steinfeld, number one,
- 3:00Speaker 4: is a kid. So, I mean, she's already like, you know,
- 3:02Speaker 4: she doesn't have the 40 plus years of experience that
- 3:06Speaker 4: Jeff Bridges has.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Right.
- 3:08Speaker 4: And to be able to just kind of command the
- 3:11Speaker 4: screen when she's on it. It was, what, 15 minutes
- 3:15Speaker 4: in or so when I got to the scene of
- 3:16Speaker 4: her negotiating with that guy with the horses. And I
- 3:19Speaker 4: was just like, wow. I was like, this kid is awesome.
- 3:23Speaker 4: I'm barely keeping up with what they're talking about as
- 3:29Speaker 4: far as this business deal is concerned. This is like,
- 3:32Speaker 4: how many years ago? And she's a 14-year-old and girl
- 3:35Speaker 4: at that time who probably wasn't even encouraged to think
- 3:38Speaker 4: on her own. So the fact that this character, let
- 3:40Speaker 4: alone the actress herself, is doing this good a job
- 3:43Speaker 4: at keeping control of what's going on on the screen
- 3:46Speaker 4: is pretty impressive. And it just continued from there. It's
- 3:50Speaker 4: like everybody she dealt with, she still kind of had
- 3:54Speaker 4: to be in charge. Whether she liked it or not,
- 3:57Speaker 4: she was the only one keeping everything on track. So yeah,
- 4:01Speaker 4: it's pretty interesting how well she does Being as young
- 4:05Speaker 4: as she is, and I haven't really seen her in
- 4:06Speaker 4: a lot of other stuff, so it will be interesting
- 4:10Speaker 4: to see where she goes in upcoming roles. I don't know.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I always want for the young actors and actresses
- 4:18Speaker 1: to really take a long time and pick, after they've
- 4:21Speaker 1: had a good, solid role, take their time and pick
- 4:25Speaker 1: something new. Not just to get experience or get money
- 4:29Speaker 1: or to cash in on fame, but to really be
- 4:32Speaker 1: proud of everything they do at a slow pace. I mean,
- 4:36Speaker 1: if it comes quickly, sure, but you don't want to
- 4:39Speaker 1: burn out too soon. I think there's a certain amount
- 4:43Speaker 1: of genius... that comes from, you know, being one of
- 4:48Speaker 1: the first times and, you know, that the really good
- 4:51Speaker 1: kids that can tap into that are, are special. Yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Well, we've had such a run lately and especially like
- 4:57Speaker 4: young girls. It's like, you've got the, the Haley Steinfeld,
- 5:01Speaker 4: you've got, um, like Saoirse Ronan, you've got, uh, Chloe Moretz.
- 5:05Speaker 4: It's like all these young girls coming up, just delivering
- 5:07Speaker 4: these like amazing performances.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Have there been, boys. I'm trying to think why, you know,
- 5:13Speaker 4: I was trying to decide why we've had such a run.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Cause we've always had like the one, usually it's that one,
- 5:18Speaker 4: you know, going back, there's always, you know, you're, you're
- 5:20Speaker 4: Natalie Portman doing a, you're the professional version, you know,
- 5:24Speaker 4: it's like, or even like, um, I was thinking back
- 5:27Speaker 4: when I first saw Kirsten Dunst interview, the vampire, she's amazing.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Sure.
- 5:32Speaker 4: And it's funny. She got more lame as her time
- 5:34Speaker 4: went off. Like when I look at her and stuff now,
- 5:36Speaker 4: I'm just like, Oh, whatever. But, She was so, like, again,
- 5:40Speaker 4: just somebody who just commands the screen. And she was, what,
- 5:43Speaker 4: like 11 tops when she made that? So, I mean,
- 5:47Speaker 4: we went through that, like, one every, you know, couple
- 5:49Speaker 4: of years or so. But lately it seems like we've
- 5:51Speaker 4: had a run of specifically girls that have been really
- 5:55Speaker 4: turning in amazing performances. Yeah, I mean, they try.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I mean, you have, but as far as the boys,
- 6:02Speaker 1: but I can't think of any that have put together that,
- 6:06Speaker 1: performance that you're like where did that come from.
- 6:08Speaker 4: Yeah i can't i can't even think of any.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Hayley joe osmond from six cents was pretty good he's.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Done nothing since that's all yeah it's going back a
- 6:18Speaker 4: long time but yeah he carried that it's just seeing
- 6:23Speaker 4: movies that you kind of like rest the entire thing
- 6:25Speaker 4: on the shoulders of a kid which is kind of
- 6:27Speaker 4: a lot to ask right yeah i was thinking like
- 6:30Speaker 4: henry thomas He carries E.T. Oh, sure. If you want
- 6:34Speaker 4: to go back further and just find child actors, then
- 6:37Speaker 4: we're kind of carrying movies. But, yeah, I was trying
- 6:39Speaker 4: to think of boys that, yeah, we've kind of lost
- 6:43Speaker 4: a lot of that lately, it seems like. Unless I'm
- 6:45Speaker 4: overlooking a few. So if anybody else knows of it, hey,
- 6:48Speaker 4: pass it along. Not Jonah Hill. Is he a child prodigy? No.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Not Jonah Hill? What are you talking about? He's an
- 6:59Speaker 2: amazing child actor.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I could see it wasn't a child, but I'm just
- 7:03Speaker 1: saying that I'm trying to think of young.
- 7:07Speaker 4: I mean, I've heard good things about the Super 8 kids,
- 7:10Speaker 4: but they seem a little older, and they seem like
- 7:12Speaker 4: they're playing a pretty normal, goofy, 12-year-old boy kind of thing.
- 7:16Speaker 4: They don't seem like they're delivering Oscar-caliber performances, which the
- 7:20Speaker 4: girls seem to have stepped up, likely. Will Wheaton.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Will Wheaton.
- 7:25Speaker 4: How far back are you going? Yeah, I'm going way back.
- 7:27Speaker 4: I was like, are you doing Next Generation? You can
- 7:29Speaker 4: say like River Phoenix and things like that. Yeah, that's true.
- 7:33Speaker 4: I mean, you say Henry Thomas, but.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 4: It does seem like you have to go back a ways,
- 7:37Speaker 4: but maybe we're just massively overlooking some, but I can't. Offhand, yeah,
- 7:41Speaker 4: I can't think of it.
- 7:42Speaker 6: Culkin.
- 7:45Speaker 7: What?
- 7:46Speaker 4: The fine performance from Uncle Buck. That's right.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Hey, I love Macaulay Culkin. He was a great actor
- 7:53Speaker 2: when he was a child.
- 7:57Speaker 4: I'm staying out of that one.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Okay.
- 7:59Speaker 4: So the only other thing I watched that was going
- 8:02Speaker 4: to go into, um, I did watch and I'd been
- 8:04Speaker 4: meaning to forever. I've been hearing about it for at
- 8:06Speaker 4: least a year now. And, uh, Solomon Cain, have you, uh, it's,
- 8:12Speaker 4: it's another one. I've not figured out what the problem was.
- 8:15Speaker 4: There's a weird distribution cause it's made like two years ago,
- 8:18Speaker 4: I think, but it's still not officially found its way
- 8:22Speaker 4: to the U S and I don't know what the
- 8:24Speaker 4: issue is. I'd, I didn't bother to go into it.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I just wanted to see it. So it's good that
- 8:29Speaker 4: it started to make its way over here, whatever way
- 8:32Speaker 4: you find it. But it's really pretty well done. I mean,
- 8:38Speaker 4: it's based on the same writer that did Conan, and
- 8:41Speaker 4: it's sort of based. It's not that same universe. It's
- 8:45Speaker 4: a little more grounded, I guess. I mean, it's not
- 8:48Speaker 4: so much the.
- 8:50Speaker 4: It's still very sword and sorcery, but it's not so
- 8:52Speaker 4: much the crazy medieval times that Conan is. It's more
- 8:55Speaker 4: like Pilgrims and Pirates. It's that 1600 England kind of time.
- 9:02Speaker 4: So it's still swords, and this is the part that
- 9:04Speaker 4: always threw me off. It's still swordplay through the majority
- 9:07Speaker 4: of the movie, but then he'll pull out a gun
- 9:09Speaker 4: and he'll shoot the.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Big metal ball into somebody. It's that old pirate gun,
- 9:15Speaker 4: you know, action that you get one shot, but it's,
- 9:17Speaker 4: it's so funny watching him pull out a gun and
- 9:20Speaker 4: do like a, you know, a gangsta shooting in the
- 9:23Speaker 4: middle of this, you know, sword fight action. He like,
- 9:25Speaker 4: you know, he just pulls out a gun. It's really weird.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Solomon Cain, Solomon Cain. And it's, uh, it is one
- 9:32Speaker 4: of those. It's, um, I got it. And I told
- 9:35Speaker 4: Misty this being as, uh, attached to this title as,
- 9:38Speaker 4: as I was as well. I got kind of a
- 9:42Speaker 4: resurgence of that feeling I got as a kid watching Beastmaster. Wow.
- 9:48Speaker 4: It's not as cheesy. It's played more serious. It's not
- 9:52Speaker 4: quite that type of movie, but it is that return
- 9:55Speaker 4: to sword and sorcery kind of movie, and it's played
- 9:58Speaker 4: kind of for fun. I mean, it it's got a
- 10:00Speaker 4: serious tone to it, but it doesn't get super arty.
- 10:04Speaker 4: I mean, something like Valorizing came out and is a
- 10:06Speaker 4: lot more arty, you know, in the way that it
- 10:09Speaker 4: approaches it, where this is more for just a fun,
- 10:12Speaker 4: you know, kick-ass kind of sword and sorcery movie. So,
- 10:16Speaker 4: And it's pretty well done for something that, again, I
- 10:18Speaker 4: guess didn't get a lot of backing. But, I mean, effects-wise,
- 10:23Speaker 4: it's got some creatures they throw in. It's got some
- 10:26Speaker 4: other stuff. You know, it looks good on screen. It
- 10:29Speaker 4: all looks very well done. And why it didn't make
- 10:32Speaker 4: its way out to get a big theatrical release in
- 10:34Speaker 4: this country, I don't know why. But, yeah, James Purfoy
- 10:39Speaker 4: is the lead character. And I think Rome is probably
- 10:43Speaker 4: the biggest thing he's been... He's actually in... I went
- 10:47Speaker 4: back trying to figure out why I recognized him. I
- 10:49Speaker 4: think he's in A Knight's Tale, if I remember.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it's going back that far. If I remember, he
- 10:54Speaker 4: might be, like, the prince. Remember at one point, like,
- 10:57Speaker 4: the prince comes in.
- 10:57Speaker 1: The jerk prince?
- 10:58Speaker 4: No, not the jerk one. That's, like, Rufus Seawall or whatever. Oh,
- 11:02Speaker 4: that's right. This is the one that was, like, the
- 11:04Speaker 4: king's son that would come in and, like, covertly joust
- 11:07Speaker 4: guys because he wasn't you know nobody would he was
- 11:09Speaker 4: the nice nobody yeah nobody would ever like jousting because
- 11:11Speaker 4: when they found out he was royalty so he would
- 11:13Speaker 4: come in and like sneak in just because he wanted
- 11:16Speaker 4: to be treated like a commoner i think he was
- 11:18Speaker 4: that guy if i'm remembering correctly but yeah that's that's
- 11:20Speaker 4: about the only he's been in a ton of stuff
- 11:22Speaker 4: but he's really good he's he's he carries this well
- 11:26Speaker 4: he also comes off kind of normal like it's not
- 11:29Speaker 4: conan he's not huge he's just kind of like built
- 11:32Speaker 4: like a regular guy but he puts on And again,
- 11:35Speaker 4: if ever there was an odd choice, he puts on
- 11:37Speaker 4: the pilgrim attire. He's got like the big black hat
- 11:41Speaker 4: and like a big long black coat. But somehow it
- 11:43Speaker 4: becomes badass when he puts it on. And he climbs
- 11:47Speaker 4: on and he carries two swords and he just hacks
- 11:49Speaker 4: the hell out of people. And there's some good fight
- 11:51Speaker 4: scenes in it. So it's definitely worth watching. Yeah, I
- 11:57Speaker 4: would even, you know, put it on the list, watch
- 11:59Speaker 4: it somewhere down the line for the show because I
- 12:00Speaker 4: think it's really entertaining.
- 12:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Those were the two big ones I watched this week.
- 12:06Speaker 4: That sounds interesting. That sounds like something I'd really get into.
- 12:10Speaker 4: So I guess it's to me now. Oh, all right.
- 12:12Speaker 4: I watched... I put my things through.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I self-threw movies on purpose sometimes to see what I
- 12:19Speaker 1: get out of them.
- 12:19Speaker 4: I think we all do that, especially on this show.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And so I watched From Paris with Love.
- 12:27Speaker 4: Oh, the John Travolta.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and Jonathan Rhys-Myers, who should have gotten top billing
- 12:34Speaker 1: because he's in every scene.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Yeah. It's John Travolta. Well, yeah, he's the vehicle.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I think John Travolta had on the jacket from Against
- 12:43Speaker 1: the Dark that Steven Seagal was wearing, if anybody catches
- 12:47Speaker 1: that reference.
- 12:48Speaker 4: You love that movie so much. I do.
- 12:49Speaker 1: That's one of my favorite bad movies of all time.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I hope everybody sees Steven Seagal's Against the Dark. It's
- 12:58Speaker 1: pretty much a straightforward buddy, spy, shoot-em-up movie. The fight
- 13:06Speaker 1: scenes are as good as any other fight scene movie.
- 13:09Speaker 1: The reason why I watched it is because it had...
- 13:13Speaker 1: From the second I saw the preview, I said, this
- 13:15Speaker 1: is going to be horrible. I guess it came out
- 13:17Speaker 1: early last year, 2010. It looked epic bad.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Critics panned it.
- 13:24Speaker 1: It did horribly at the box office.
- 13:26Speaker 4: It did, yeah.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So that's like the trifecta of you've got to see
- 13:29Speaker 1: this movie now. So I put myself to watching it.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Like I said, it's pretty much a straightforward buddy shoot-em-up
- 13:38Speaker 1: kind of movie. You've got the green young rookie guy
- 13:42Speaker 1: and you've got the.
- 13:44Speaker 4: He's out of control.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Exactly. The out of control. You never know what he's
- 13:48Speaker 1: going to do.
- 13:49Speaker 4: Maverick!
- 13:50Speaker 8: If.
- 13:51Speaker 1: If John Travolta had humility about him, like he did
- 13:57Speaker 1: in Pulp Fiction, which his career was horrible at the
- 14:00Speaker 1: time before Pulp Fiction, and there was a certain amount
- 14:03Speaker 1: of humility that he brought to the table, I think
- 14:05Speaker 1: it would have been a much better movie.
- 14:08Speaker 4: There was a lot of plot issues I had with it, too.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I think it was because it was adapted from a book,
- 14:13Speaker 1: and I don't think they stayed with the book. I
- 14:17Speaker 1: think it was just, how are we going to put
- 14:18Speaker 1: them in another scene to shoot up a bunch of people?
- 14:21Speaker 1: So it was kind of like a Death Wish, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 1: kind of movie anyway. Just puts you in scene after
- 14:26Speaker 1: scene of blowing stuff up.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Nice. And bad references to other movies, bad.
- 14:36Speaker 1: One-liners. But that's what you get with that genre. So,
- 14:39Speaker 1: you know, I think they promoted it as it was
- 14:43Speaker 1: going to be something epic.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:45Speaker 4: And it really wasn't. It was.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Aside from... Well, we'll say, we've brought this up many times...
- 14:51Speaker 1: you've either seen or not seen but everybody's seen the
- 14:55Speaker 1: trailer for Taken where that one scene is the best
- 14:58Speaker 1: part of the movie and the rest of the movie
- 15:00Speaker 1: is just somebody being somewhere else in the world blowing
- 15:03Speaker 1: people up that's what this is but John Travolta so
- 15:08Speaker 1: it wasn't horrible.
- 15:11Speaker 4: It entertained me.
- 15:13Speaker 1: While I ate some popcorn the other thing that I
- 15:17Speaker 1: saw was and I'm going to recommend this for anyone
- 15:21Speaker 1: with my sense of humor, is a movie called The Ten.
- 15:25Speaker 1: It's David Wayne, who is the director of most of
- 15:29Speaker 1: the state stuff for Red Hot Americans, or Wet Hot
- 15:34Speaker 1: American Summer, and Stella, I think, that group.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. Which are pretty damn entertaining.
- 15:41Speaker 7: Right.
- 15:42Speaker 1: And he, it's a movie, it's ten shorts, all based
- 15:48Speaker 1: on The Ten Commandments. And it's basically like the state
- 15:55Speaker 1: does the Ten Commandments is what it is. And it's
- 15:57Speaker 1: all in real world story. And I think all of
- 16:00Speaker 1: the original members of the state end up in one
- 16:03Speaker 1: of the little vignettes.
- 16:06Speaker 4: They always still end up working together. Usually just twos
- 16:08Speaker 4: and threes. Wait, you mean the state? The state.
- 16:11Speaker 2: The sketch comedy on MTV? That's amazing.
- 16:14Speaker 4: That's one of the best sketches.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Michael Showalter shows up in one scene as a cop
- 16:18Speaker 1: that's standing around.
- 16:19Speaker 4: You know.
- 16:20Speaker 1: There's a shoot-em-up going on, and he's standing around with
- 16:23Speaker 1: some other cops smoking and drinking, and he goes, somebody
- 16:26Speaker 1: should call the cops. That's his one line of the movie,
- 16:28Speaker 1: but he's in there as a little cameo. Nice. And
- 16:32Speaker 1: it's very funny. There's stuff that falls on its face,
- 16:36Speaker 1: but it's pretty funny. It's got a lot of actors
- 16:39Speaker 1: and actresses. Paul Rudd is kind of your main narrator
- 16:43Speaker 1: character throughout the movie. It's definitely worth watching. There are
- 16:47Speaker 1: some really good laughs in it. There are some that
- 16:51Speaker 1: you go, eh, you know. They're hit and miss, but
- 16:55Speaker 1: most of.
- 16:56Speaker 4: The time it's a hit.
- 16:57Speaker 1: And if you like the state at all, it's definitely
- 17:00Speaker 1: worth watching.
- 17:02Speaker 4: It's funny how underappreciated they were at the time. Now
- 17:06Speaker 4: they've become, like in comedy circles, that's sort of like royalty.
- 17:11Speaker 4: It's amazing how many people draw from that now. But
- 17:14Speaker 4: at the time, there were a few dorks that sat
- 17:17Speaker 4: at home watching MTV, like me, that thought it was awesome.
- 17:20Speaker 4: And yeah, I loved that show back when it was on,
- 17:22Speaker 4: but nobody cared about it at the time.
- 17:25Speaker 1: My wife and I were dating at the time in
- 17:27Speaker 1: different cities, and we both would record it, and we
- 17:29Speaker 1: both would watch it and immediately call and talk to
- 17:31Speaker 1: each other like dorks. And at the time, I think
- 17:35Speaker 1: I felt like we were the only two people in.
- 17:37Speaker 4: The world that watched it.
- 17:38Speaker 1: So yeah, it's... it's good stuff. So anyway, that one,
- 17:42Speaker 1: that was my definite recommendation. I watched, uh, from Paris
- 17:46Speaker 1: with love or two, but whatever it's called, the John
- 17:48Speaker 1: Travolta movie, that horrible look of his.
- 17:52Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 17:52Speaker 1: You don't have to go see that.
- 17:54Speaker 6: Why?
- 17:55Speaker 4: Just that's what kills me is that look, the, the,
- 17:58Speaker 4: the bald head and the goatee and the earring. It's just, Oh,
- 18:01Speaker 4: it's terrible.
- 18:02Speaker 1: He does have his moments where he's pretty funny. I mean, he,
- 18:05Speaker 1: he can be funny. He can be, but, um.
- 18:09Speaker 4: It's, yeah, I mean, it was one of those I
- 18:11Speaker 4: thought maybe because of the ridiculous, over-the-top nature of it,
- 18:15Speaker 4: like it might work on that level of, wow, this
- 18:19Speaker 4: movie is so terrible that it's sort of entertaining in
- 18:23Speaker 4: its own sad way. It's not as.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Bad as, I hoped it was that bad. I wanted
- 18:27Speaker 1: it to be that bad and be very entertained by it,
- 18:30Speaker 1: but it's just kind of bad. And the worst part
- 18:34Speaker 1: of the movie is the fact that his vice, his
- 18:37Speaker 1: thing that he um, has to have to eat is
- 18:40Speaker 1: a Royale with cheese. And it, it's, it's just, they're
- 18:44Speaker 1: going as low as possible to get that referencing joke. So, yes,
- 18:49Speaker 1: that's bad.
- 18:49Speaker 4: Yep.
- 18:50Speaker 1: So that's my referencing your own movies.
- 18:53Speaker 4: And yeah.
- 18:55Speaker 1: All right.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Marlene.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Um, I basically just watched a bunch of TV. Although
- 19:01Speaker 2: last night I watched triplets of Belleville.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I'd never seen it before.
- 19:05Speaker 4: I've heard it was good.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Going into it, the people I was watching it with,
- 19:10Speaker 2: they're like, it's kind of weird. You might not like it.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I'm like, I like French movies. I like animated movies.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I like silent movies, and I like musicals. I don't
- 19:18Speaker 2: really think there's going to be a problem here. There wasn't.
- 19:21Speaker 4: I loved it.
- 19:21Speaker 2: It was really awesome. The animation was different. It was, like, amazing.
- 19:25Speaker 4: Have these people ever met you? Like, how is weird
- 19:29Speaker 4: going to be something that's going to throw you off?
- 19:32Speaker 2: It was my boyfriend's dad.
- 19:34Speaker 4: Oh, okay. I guess.
- 19:37Speaker 7: But, uh.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it was awesome.
- 19:39Speaker 9: The animation was really good and the music was awesome.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Apparently, like, there's parts where they're playing, like, a refrigerator
- 19:47Speaker 2: and a bicycle spoke and things like that.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Cleaner, and, like, in the studio when they're making those sounds,
- 19:52Speaker 2: that's what they're really using, which I think is really cool.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It took me a while. Like, I was tired when
- 19:58Speaker 2: I watched it, so, like, I feel embarrassed for admitting this.
- 20:01Speaker 2: I didn't catch on to the story right away.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Yeah. I can't say I don't just... you know, go
- 20:09Speaker 4: to sleep most of the time. But yeah, there was
- 20:12Speaker 4: something lately that has taken many tries.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I mean, I felt like that a lot lately with
- 20:18Speaker 2: things I'm watching something and I'm like, I think I
- 20:22Speaker 2: just zone out for a second. Like I'll get to
- 20:24Speaker 2: this later, but the movie that we had to watch for,
- 20:27Speaker 2: This week's podcast. I still don't know why the mom
- 20:30Speaker 2: did what she did. And I just missed that part completely.
- 20:32Speaker 2: I don't know. We'll talk about that more later.
- 20:35Speaker 4: I've got one. I just remembered what it was I
- 20:37Speaker 4: kept not finishing. If I can interrupt yours for another
- 20:41Speaker 4: one that I totally forgot about with good reason. I
- 20:43Speaker 4: watched My Soul to Take, that Wes Craven movie. I
- 20:48Speaker 4: could not. That's the thing. I fall asleep on movies
- 20:52Speaker 4: all the time. That's sort of a given with me.
- 20:54Speaker 4: This wasn't that. This was, it was like 20 minutes
- 20:57Speaker 4: in and I just went. I don't know what's going
- 21:00Speaker 4: on right now and I don't really care. I quit
- 21:02Speaker 4: paying attention. And that's not my nature. It's like if
- 21:06Speaker 4: I'm watching a movie, I focus on the movie. I
- 21:08Speaker 4: pay attention to the movie. I'm not doing other stuff.
- 21:10Speaker 4: It's like if I'm watching a movie, I'm watching a movie.
- 21:13Speaker 4: And that's what I was doing. I wasn't even doing
- 21:14Speaker 4: anything else. I was to the point my mind was
- 21:16Speaker 4: wandering while watching this movie. Like to the point, yeah, five,
- 21:20Speaker 4: six minutes had gone by and I went, I don't
- 21:22Speaker 4: even know what they're talking about right now. And I
- 21:23Speaker 4: don't care. So I stopped it. And like the next
- 21:26Speaker 4: day I tried to go back and finish watching it.
- 21:28Speaker 4: I got about that, I got maybe another 10, 15
- 21:31Speaker 4: minutes in and I went, oh my God, I just,
- 21:33Speaker 4: I'm going to go take a nap or something. It
- 21:36Speaker 4: took me three specific times of not falling asleep, but
- 21:39Speaker 4: stopping myself and going, but I was damned and determined
- 21:43Speaker 4: to make it all the way through. I watched it.
- 21:46Speaker 4: It's terrible. It really is bad as everybody said it was.
- 21:49Speaker 2: It's yeah, it's bad. I, I heard it was like
- 21:52Speaker 2: a wannabe nightmare on Elm Street or something.
- 21:53Speaker 4: No, it's not even that. That's the thing. I mean,
- 21:55Speaker 4: it's almost hard to believe this is Wes Craven. Like,
- 21:59Speaker 4: I mean, I know he turns in some off movies
- 22:02Speaker 4: every once in a while, but I mean, this is just,
- 22:05Speaker 4: it's bad. Like, it's just everything about, and that's what's
- 22:08Speaker 4: really sad is like, this isn't even like, I mean,
- 22:11Speaker 4: his last one, he didn't, you know, scream. He didn't
- 22:13Speaker 4: even write that. He's just turning in a directing job.
- 22:16Speaker 4: This movie, he wrote it and directed it. And I
- 22:18Speaker 4: was just like, Are you really losing it that much that, like,
- 22:22Speaker 4: you cannot piece together? Because, I mean, the story's just dumb.
- 22:26Speaker 4: The characters say horrible things. Like, it's just bad dialogue.
- 22:30Speaker 4: But the plot where they work in the killer character
- 22:34Speaker 4: is just dumb. Like, more than anything. It's like, I just...
- 22:37Speaker 4: I don't care. And by the end of it, you
- 22:40Speaker 4: get sort of pieced together the story. And I'm just like, wow,
- 22:42Speaker 4: that was really bad. There's just nothing to it to
- 22:46Speaker 4: really make you want to come back to it. It's... Yeah, I.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Which.
- 22:50Speaker 4: I give myself credit. I was damned and determined to
- 22:52Speaker 4: finish it, and I did. I watched it all, but
- 22:55Speaker 4: it took me three days to get through it. Okay,
- 22:58Speaker 4: I interrupted you.
- 22:59Speaker 6: Sorry.
- 22:59Speaker 2: I don't know what it is, why I do that.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I think it's because I'm so accustomed to reading part
- 23:05Speaker 2: of a book, putting it down, reading part of another book,
- 23:08Speaker 2: putting it down, reading part of another book, putting it down,
- 23:10Speaker 2: picking up the first book. I do that with movies
- 23:13Speaker 2: and shows and everything.
- 23:15Speaker 4: TV shows, like kind of encourage that, at least in
- 23:18Speaker 4: their original run.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I'll watch half a TV show, and then go back
- 23:21Speaker 2: and watch the other half of it. I think I'm
- 23:23Speaker 2: just so used to doing that, it's just like I'll
- 23:25Speaker 2: lose focus, like, halfway in, and I'm just like, yeah.
- 23:31Speaker 2: But I eventually caught on. It was really good. Actually,
- 23:33Speaker 2: someone explained it to me. I'm like, yeah, I thought
- 23:37Speaker 2: that's what was going on.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Which movie are you talking about? Triplets of Belvedere.
- 23:42Speaker 1: That was like us and Hannah completely missing out that it.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Was Yeah, I mean, we went and saw that, and
- 23:49Speaker 4: we stood in the parking lot and talked about it
- 23:51Speaker 4: for like an hour, and never did we really... We
- 23:55Speaker 4: had a lot of other stuff. I mean, we came
- 23:57Speaker 4: up with a lot of different takes on it, but
- 24:00Speaker 4: never got to the fact that... I mean, and even
- 24:03Speaker 4: the director himself said it's a veiled fairy tale. Right.
- 24:07Speaker 4: And by the end, it's very obvious. I mean, I
- 24:08Speaker 4: realized they were playing on that at the very end,
- 24:11Speaker 4: but I didn't realize just how specific... It's not even failed.
- 24:15Speaker 1: They're hitting you in the face.
- 24:16Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 24:16Speaker 4: I mean, it's totally up front by the end of it. But,
- 24:20Speaker 4: I mean, the entire structure of it is a fairy tale.
- 24:23Speaker 4: Everything that goes on is based around the tropes of
- 24:26Speaker 4: fairy tales. I mean, it is funny that we just
- 24:29Speaker 4: really didn't draw on that at all. It was late.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true. It was very late.
- 24:34Speaker 1: We're kind of sleepy.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Sorry to interrupt you again.
- 24:37Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 24:39Speaker 4: I mean.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I don't really... That's pretty much all I have to
- 24:42Speaker 2: say about it. It was awesome. I liked it. Two
- 24:44Speaker 2: thumbs up.
- 24:45Speaker 4: It was all hand-drawn, if I remember. It's like old-school animation, yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 4: Which is awesome. All right. Anything else?
- 24:54Speaker 2: I've been watching a lot of Hoarders lately. It's not
- 24:56Speaker 2: really so much movie-related. But every time I watch Hoarders,
- 25:00Speaker 2: it's like an excellent motivational tool. Like I watched Hoarders
- 25:04Speaker 2: and then I had to pause it and organize my
- 25:07Speaker 2: DVD cabinet.
- 25:09Speaker 4: I don't want to be like that.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I was watching Hoarders yesterday and had to pause
- 25:13Speaker 2: it and I cleaned out the trunk of my car.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I'm like, hmm, yeah. Because I have Hoarder tendencies for sure.
- 25:20Speaker 9: I mean, a lot of us in this podcast, most
- 25:24Speaker 9: of them aren't currently here, but a lot of us.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Have Hoarder tendencies.
- 25:27Speaker 4: I don't know, I'd say all of us in this
- 25:28Speaker 4: room still... I'm going to fall into that category. Are
- 25:31Speaker 4: you a hoarder too? I had to rent a.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Roll-off dumpster, a big one, to clean out my basement.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I had so much stuff that we got rid of.
- 25:42Speaker 4: And I haven't even gotten the dumpster, so I'm still
- 25:44Speaker 4: toting my shit around.
- 25:46Speaker 2: I just got rid of most of mine. I'm trying
- 25:48Speaker 2: to be an ex-hoarder.
- 25:50Speaker 4: I just figure I'll watch the show and I'll be like, well,
- 25:52Speaker 4: at least eventually I'll get to be on TV.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I just wanted to be for a bunch of stuff
- 25:57Speaker 2: and not garbage. Like the one I was watching yesterday.
- 26:00Speaker 2: The lady's house was full of garbage. They found like
- 26:02Speaker 2: four dead cats in her house.
- 26:04Speaker 4: That's not good at all.
- 26:05Speaker 2: I know you're like ten years of garbage.
- 26:08Speaker 1: The worst one I saw was the bird lady. That
- 26:11Speaker 1: everything was just feathers and feces.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Somebody was telling me about that.
- 26:16Speaker 1: It made me sick to watch it. Like you have
- 26:18Speaker 1: to change it because you're so... Disgusted by it.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:23Speaker 2: I mean, my closet is the only place where it
- 26:26Speaker 2: is apparent that I'm a hoarder. And it's like, I
- 26:29Speaker 2: have to shove everything in there and close the door
- 26:33Speaker 2: really fast and block it with a stool so it
- 26:36Speaker 2: doesn't fly open and everything spill out. But it's because
- 26:39Speaker 2: I don't have enough shelves. I don't even have a
- 26:43Speaker 2: hanging bar in my closet. I have a pull-out, rolling.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Clothes rack and it's broken so i just kind of
- 26:51Speaker 2: throw everything.
- 26:52Speaker 4: In there see i've decided that's what i like i
- 26:55Speaker 4: almost prefer that i want just like a storage facility
- 26:58Speaker 4: i i don't need everything and i've done that everything's
- 27:02Speaker 4: pretty stripped down here but everything's crammed in one area
- 27:05Speaker 4: it's like i just need more storage space so i
- 27:08Speaker 4: can stockpile it and you know i can hoard it
- 27:11Speaker 4: but back there i don't need it around me all
- 27:13Speaker 4: the time i don't need access to it constantly i
- 27:15Speaker 4: But every once in a while when I need whatever
- 27:17Speaker 4: it is I've stored away, I need to be able
- 27:20Speaker 4: to go get to it. So I like that. I
- 27:22Speaker 4: like the vault scenario, obviously, since I've worked it into
- 27:24Speaker 4: the show as well. But I like the idea of
- 27:26Speaker 4: being able to have access to everything, but you don't
- 27:29Speaker 4: necessarily have to get to it every day. You're just
- 27:31Speaker 4: stockpiling it somewhere else out of the way. That's what
- 27:33Speaker 4: I need. I just need a giant storage facility behind
- 27:36Speaker 4: my house. Anything else for you this week?
- 27:41Speaker 7: Nope.
- 27:42Speaker 3: All right.
- 27:43Speaker 2: That does it. Pretty unexciting week, movie-wise.
- 27:49Speaker 4: Do we want to go into our food item this week?
- 27:52Speaker 4: I don't know that we're doing an official tie-in, but,
- 27:54Speaker 4: you know, as our listeners know, we usually come.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Up with nice food.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Yeah, to me, it's very normal. Like, I don't know
- 28:01Speaker 4: that it... I guess maybe it's one of our weird
- 28:03Speaker 4: little things, but to me, it's just like when you're
- 28:06Speaker 4: at home. I mean, don't you, like, get together with
- 28:08Speaker 4: your friends and eat food and watch a movie? I mean, that's...
- 28:11Speaker 4: kind of comes with the territory. So we try to
- 28:14Speaker 4: tie that in and make it as normal and real
- 28:16Speaker 4: world as it would be otherwise, even if there weren't
- 28:19Speaker 4: recorders here.
- 28:21Speaker 1: The theme that goes along with the food and movie
- 28:24Speaker 1: tie-in for today is that there are layers of cheese
- 28:29Speaker 1: within it.
- 28:30Speaker 4: Yes. Within both. We're having lasagna tonight. So I think
- 28:35Speaker 4: we're going to... We're going to take a break here
- 28:37Speaker 4: and go have some lasagna. And we'll be back with
- 28:40Speaker 4: this week's Sofa Theater feature, Rockula.
- 28:42Speaker 1: La, la, la, la, lasagna.
- 28:47Speaker 11: You want the summer lasagna.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Magnifico.
- 28:50Speaker 11: Or maybe spaghetti. Hey, you suppers are ready. Now where
- 28:55Speaker 11: do you go? Mamma mia, bambino. Mamma mia, bambino. Samara, yo.
- 29:02Speaker 4: Samara, yo.
- 29:05Speaker 3: You'll like our pizza pies, made from a famous Italian recipe.
- 29:09Speaker 3: They're waiting for you right now at the concession stand.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Enjoy tempting food at its best.
- 29:17Speaker 4: What's up?
- 29:17Speaker 6: It's Brian again.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Just here to tell you it's coming up on one
- 29:20Speaker 4: of our favorite times of year here at Movie Meltdown.
- 29:22Speaker 4: It's coming up on the Fright Night Film Fest. This
- 29:24Speaker 4: will be the seventh annual Fright Night Film Fest. But
- 29:27Speaker 4: not only that. This year also kicks off Fandom Fest.
- 29:32Speaker 4: an entire second convention.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Of geek and pop culture.
- 29:36Speaker 4: But wait, you get both awesome shows for the same
- 29:39Speaker 4: low price. Now this is no longer just a convention
- 29:42Speaker 4: that caters to horror geeks. But it crosses over into
- 29:45Speaker 4: a whole new realm where fantasy and sci-fi lovers, as
- 29:48Speaker 4: well as comic book collectors, general film lovers... You can
- 29:51Speaker 4: hang out with gamers, authors, and artists of all types.
- 29:55Speaker 4: It's like Geek Valhalla, only you don't have to die
- 29:57Speaker 4: to get there. You just have to get your tickets now.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Now the main guest, the legend himself, director John Carpenter. Amazing.
- 30:08Speaker 4: One of the most influential directors of our time. Not
- 30:12Speaker 4: only that, this list of guests goes on. We've got
- 30:15Speaker 4: the Fonz himself, Henry Winkler. That is so awesome. Also,
- 30:20Speaker 4: Margot Kidder, Tiffany Shephus, Larry Drake, Jeremy Bullock, Tony Moore,
- 30:25Speaker 4: and the stars of The Walking Dead. The stars of
- 30:27Speaker 4: Enter the Dragon, Bruce Lee not included. A Karate Kid
- 30:30Speaker 4: Cobra Kai reunion. And give us a Revenge of the
- 30:33Speaker 4: Nerds reunion. Seriously. Featuring Robert Carradine, Larry B. Scott, Curtis Armstrong,
- 30:40Speaker 4: and if booger bean there wasn't enough, Donald Gibb. Ogre,
- 30:44Speaker 4: ladies and gentlemen, will be there. There's so many others.
- 30:47Speaker 4: I mean, the stars of American Graffiti, Jaws, Phantasm, so
- 30:51Speaker 4: many other stars. You'll just have to go look at
- 30:53Speaker 4: the list. It's ridiculous how many stars are there. Plus, again,
- 30:56Speaker 4: we cross over into all the other activities that are
- 30:59Speaker 4: added this year. You've got literary guests and gaming guests
- 31:03Speaker 4: and artists. There'll be seminars and workshops going on, movies
- 31:07Speaker 4: the entire weekend, live music, a masquerade ball, and the
- 31:11Speaker 4: now infamous Georgetown Drive-In event. plus an appearance from your
- 31:16Speaker 4: friends at Movie Meltdown. And isn't that really the most
- 31:19Speaker 4: impressive thing? And it's all going on July 22nd through
- 31:22Speaker 4: the 24th in Louisville, Kentucky. So get your tickets now.
- 31:25Speaker 4: You can go to FrightNightFilmFest.com or the site for the
- 31:28Speaker 4: new convention, Fandom Fest. That's F-A-N-D-O-M-F-E-S-T dot com. It's going
- 31:34Speaker 4: to be one hell of a weekend.
- 31:36Speaker 1: The Fright Night Film Fest is my favorite film festival.
- 31:39Speaker 4: Hands down.
- 31:47Speaker 8: Now I'm asking you to surrender your heart. You made
- 31:55Speaker 8: me wait forever.
- 31:57Speaker 4: My hope had almost died.
- 31:59Speaker 2: You stopped the world from.
- 32:02Speaker 8: Turning when you were by my side.
- 32:08Speaker 1: One good thing that came out of me cleaning out
- 32:10Speaker 1: my basement is I found my VHS copy of Get.
- 32:13Speaker 12: Get.
- 32:15Speaker 1: And I might have, no one else has ever seen that,
- 32:18Speaker 1: that I know of.
- 32:20Speaker 4: In the world. Yeah, probably in the world. You're the
- 32:23Speaker 4: only one.
- 32:23Speaker 1: So anyone that I know, no one else.
- 32:25Speaker 4: Has ever seen it.
- 32:26Speaker 1: So I'm going to have to at least lend it out.
- 32:30Speaker 4: I feel like I need to see it. I don't
- 32:32Speaker 4: know that I have been in a big hurry, obviously,
- 32:35Speaker 4: because it's been like 15 years.
- 32:36Speaker 1: I thought that you would get a copy of it anywhere.
- 32:40Speaker 4: So before we're officially back, do you want to go
- 32:42Speaker 4: into a moment? Huh?
- 32:46Speaker 2: Which one should I go into first?
- 32:48Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know. You think about it whilst I
- 32:51Speaker 4: give you your announcement.
- 32:52Speaker 12: Okay.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Announce time from Marlena Moore.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Okay, so last week I went to my place of
- 33:01Speaker 2: employment to pick up some of my friends that I
- 33:04Speaker 2: work with. It was my friend's birthday. We were dressed
- 33:07Speaker 2: up to go out and dance and have dinner and
- 33:10Speaker 2: stuff like that. And there's this crazy there's this thing
- 33:14Speaker 2: happening in the town that I work called jaywalk which
- 33:17Speaker 2: is basically where like all these drunk people like ride
- 33:21Speaker 2: this big bus and go from bar to bar and
- 33:24Speaker 2: just like wear t-shirts and it's just like the dumbest
- 33:27Speaker 2: idea ever it's like hey public intoxication is cool and
- 33:31Speaker 2: fun and like this is a great idea but anyway
- 33:35Speaker 2: so there's this crazy lady hanging out in front of
- 33:37Speaker 2: my work and we walk up and she goes what's
- 33:40Speaker 2: up jiggles and i was like excuse me she was
- 33:45Speaker 2: like she's like i hope you're a bartender with your
- 33:48Speaker 2: boobs like that and then she started grabbing her own
- 33:51Speaker 2: boobs and she's like i feel you girl i'd like
- 33:54Speaker 2: to let mine all hang out but she wasn't she
- 33:56Speaker 2: was probably not wearing a bra but she was wearing
- 33:59Speaker 2: a button-up polo shirt and i was like uh yeah
- 34:06Speaker 2: and uh Then she looked at me and she said,
- 34:09Speaker 2: you look nice. She looked at my friend who was
- 34:13Speaker 2: her birthday and she goes, you look nice. And then
- 34:15Speaker 2: she looked at my friend Sarah and she goes, eh.
- 34:20Speaker 4: I think that's my favorite part of the story.
- 34:22Speaker 2: And then this lady was just rambling. We were like
- 34:27Speaker 2: not inviting her into any conversation whatsoever. And she's like, hey,
- 34:32Speaker 2: I have this deaf boyfriend. His name's Stevie. He thinks
- 34:35Speaker 2: I'm into girls, but I'm not. She's like, but he's
- 34:37Speaker 2: only known me for a week, so he doesn't really
- 34:38Speaker 2: know that much about me. And I'm like, okay.
- 34:41Speaker 4: Thanks for sharing.
- 34:42Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 34:43Speaker 2: I'm like, awesome. And she's like, I'm a displaced teacher
- 34:47Speaker 2: from Pennsylvania. And, you know, someone was just like, oh, really?
- 34:53Speaker 2: You know, just kind of like, whatever, don't care. And
- 34:55Speaker 2: she's like, yeah, I taught erotica to special needs children.
- 34:58Speaker 4: And we were like.
- 35:01Speaker 2: That's probably why you're a displaced teacher.
- 35:03Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 35:04Speaker 4: There's so many things wrong with that statement.
- 35:06Speaker 2: I know. But it's maybe one of the best things
- 35:09Speaker 2: I've ever heard in my life. I taught Aaronica to
- 35:12Speaker 2: special needs children.
- 35:14Speaker 4: First of all, does anybody teach Aaronica? Exactly. You just
- 35:18Speaker 4: sort of buy it in a brown paper bag and
- 35:20Speaker 4: you take it out real fast and you go read
- 35:22Speaker 4: it alone by yourself or with whatever toys that you need. But, yeah,
- 35:26Speaker 4: I don't know. If so, it's probably a very high-end
- 35:30Speaker 4: class that wouldn't let that crazy bitch teach it. And
- 35:33Speaker 4: second of all, do you need to be teaching that
- 35:35Speaker 4: to special needs children?
- 35:38Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 35:38Speaker 4: I mean, what's something, is this our tax dollars at work?
- 35:42Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 35:43Speaker 2: I think she's probably, this is probably in her mind
- 35:46Speaker 2: that she did this.
- 35:47Speaker 4: I hope so.
- 35:48Speaker 2: But, and then she looks at my friend Sarah and goes,
- 35:51Speaker 2: do you know the difference between erotica and porn? And
- 35:53Speaker 2: Sarah's like, yes, I do. But we were all just
- 35:58Speaker 2: like staring there in shock and horror like, this crazy
- 36:04Speaker 2: woman outside claims to teach erotica to special needs children.
- 36:07Speaker 2: She needs to be removed. So I walked in and
- 36:09Speaker 2: I told my boss, I was like, there's a really
- 36:11Speaker 2: creepy lady outside. She made me feel uncomfortable. So he
- 36:14Speaker 2: escorted her away. He like kicked her out. Told her
- 36:19Speaker 2: not to come back.
- 36:19Speaker 4: That's great. So basically you said, I need an adult.
- 36:22Speaker 10: I need an adult.
- 36:22Speaker 2: I know. I was like, I need an adult. And
- 36:25Speaker 2: I mean, I have to say, she was the creepiest
- 36:27Speaker 2: person I've ever met in my life. And it's usually
- 36:30Speaker 2: old men that are creepy, but no, she like, Was
- 36:33Speaker 2: the creepiest person ever.
- 36:35Speaker 4: See, I'm still kind of intrigued. I want to know
- 36:38Speaker 4: what her reasoning between, what her difference between erotica and
- 36:42Speaker 4: porn was.
- 36:44Speaker 2: It doesn't matter. Neither one needs to be taught to
- 36:48Speaker 2: special needs children.
- 36:49Speaker 4: I want to know where she was going with that.
- 36:51Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 36:51Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 36:53Speaker 1: What do they do once they've learned this?
- 36:56Speaker 4: Put it into action. And now, kids, we're going to
- 37:00Speaker 4: start the soundtrack.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Okay, well, there is this, these videos that someone once
- 37:06Speaker 2: directed me to on YouTube, and it's this, like, classful
- 37:10Speaker 2: of mentally handicapped children doing slam and beat poetry.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Oh, God.
- 37:15Speaker 2: And one of them is this, he's mentally handicapped, and
- 37:19Speaker 2: he's in a wheelchair. He's very physically handicapped, and his
- 37:23Speaker 2: body is shriveled, and his name is, like, Stevie or something,
- 37:26Speaker 2: or Steve, or I don't know what his name is.
- 37:29Speaker 2: But he wants to be a girl. And he's, like,
- 37:31Speaker 2: dressed up like a girl. And his, like, slam poem
- 37:36Speaker 2: is about how he wants to be a sexy woman.
- 37:39Speaker 2: But he can't be because he's, like, this poor handicapped boy.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it made me think of that.
- 37:45Speaker 1: That makes me sad.
- 37:47Speaker 4: I mean, I'm really sad for that personally.
- 37:49Speaker 13: Mm-hmm.
- 37:50Speaker 4: That sounds really depressing, but mostly just because it's slam poetry.
- 37:54Speaker 2: There's one I'll have to show you. It's called I'm
- 37:57Speaker 2: a Werewolf. It's amazing. If there was one called I'm
- 38:02Speaker 2: a Vampire, it could be relevant to this week's episode.
- 38:07Speaker 4: So, do we need one shot, or do you have
- 38:10Speaker 4: more stories that you want to get out before you
- 38:12Speaker 4: forget about them all?
- 38:13Speaker 2: What was the other thing that happened?
- 38:14Speaker 4: Oh, the in line in front of you.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Oh, eh, I can leave that one out.
- 38:21Speaker 4: Yeah. It's, once again, just America at its finest.
- 38:23Speaker 2: I'll have more because, you know, these things just happen
- 38:27Speaker 2: to me. I don't know why, but they do.
- 38:30Speaker 4: That's why we try to give you the outlet and
- 38:32Speaker 4: took a special Marlena moment break.
- 38:35Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like I need to write a
- 38:37Speaker 2: book or something.
- 38:40Speaker 4: They publish all kinds of stuff, so I can't imagine
- 38:43Speaker 4: that not getting published. It's more interesting than most things
- 38:46Speaker 4: out there as far as I'm concerned.
- 38:47Speaker 10: Yep. Yep.
- 38:50Speaker 4: All right, well, then we'll take the rest of this
- 38:52Speaker 4: break and come back with a sweet smoke.
- 38:55Speaker 8: Your spirit is bent on destruction. Rock you up.
- 39:05Speaker 4: Your spirit is bent on.

- 40:22Speaker 4: It's time for Sofa Theater. And this kid is Rockula.
- 40:40Speaker 8: Okay, we are back once again, and this time for
- 40:44Speaker 8: this week's Sofa Theater Featured.
- 41:09Speaker 4: This week's Sofa Theater feature is the aforementioned Rockula.
- 41:13Speaker 8: Rockula!
- 41:15Speaker 4: The year is 1990. The director, Luca Boccovisi, and if
- 41:20Speaker 4: I'm saying that wrong, tough. But he actually is an
- 41:23Speaker 4: actor as well, and you would probably recognize him if
- 41:26Speaker 4: you saw him. He's been in quite a few movies
- 41:28Speaker 4: over the years, and yeah, some cheesy action stuff. Yeah,
- 41:32Speaker 4: he's He's very recognizable once you go look him up.
- 41:35Speaker 4: He's one of those guys that you see and.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Say, oh, that guy.
- 41:38Speaker 4: Yeah, he's that guy. He's definitely one you would never
- 41:40Speaker 4: know that his name is Luko Berkovich. But yeah, you
- 41:47Speaker 4: definitely recognize him once you see him in action.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Like Walker Texas Ranger and Criminal Minds or just stuff
- 41:52Speaker 1: like that.
- 41:52Speaker 4: Tons of TV and weird movies. Yep, definitely. So with that,
- 41:58Speaker 4: we'll throw out the spoiler alert, because even the plot here, well,
- 42:01Speaker 4: the basic, and once again, we're going to IMDb, like
- 42:04Speaker 4: we usually do, but the basic one-sentence one, which is
- 42:06Speaker 4: usually the one I prefer, was dumb and wrong, and
- 42:09Speaker 4: I was like, all right, fine. So I scrolled down,
- 42:11Speaker 4: and we've got a more lengthy one here. This one
- 42:14Speaker 4: goes into quite a bit of it, so, you know,
- 42:16Speaker 4: spoiler alert, even on the plot synopsis here.
- 42:19Speaker 10: Huh.
- 42:20Speaker 4: Rockula is about a male vampire who lost his lady
- 42:23Speaker 4: love centuries ago. I love letting other people write random synopsis.
- 42:30Speaker 4: She was killed by a pirate with a rhinestone pig leg,
- 42:33Speaker 4: wielding a large ham bone. Our hero, the vampire, did
- 42:36Speaker 4: nothing to save her. So he has now courage to
- 42:39Speaker 4: watch her be born again in another life, and then
- 42:42Speaker 4: watch her die, strangely enough, by a pirate with a
- 42:45Speaker 4: rhinestone pig leg, wielding, you know what. Now, in 1990,
- 42:48Speaker 4: he has, he suspects, His last chance to try to
- 42:52Speaker 4: save her instead of watching her get clubbed over and
- 42:55Speaker 4: over again down through the years. Oh, and he becomes
- 42:58Speaker 4: a rock star in the process. Thank you, Shannon, who
- 43:02Speaker 4: wrote that for us. That's it. It really is the movie.
- 43:06Speaker 4: I mean, I just like the phrasing on most of that.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 43:10Speaker 4: Oh, and he becomes a rock star, by the way.
- 43:12Speaker 4: Which is pretty much the entire bulk of this movie.
- 43:15Speaker 4: Let's see. Before we get into it, it is time
- 43:18Speaker 4: for our return to... Once again, we delve into the
- 43:23Speaker 4: vaults of an actor and find out what their thoughts
- 43:25Speaker 4: were on one of these past movies. And today we
- 43:29Speaker 4: go to the archives of Mr. Dean Cameron. So we'll
- 43:32Speaker 4: see what Dean has to say about being in Rockula.
- 43:36Speaker 4: What do you do when you're given Rockula?
- 43:37Speaker 7: Oh. You know, Rockulo was the first movie I carried,
- 43:43Speaker 7: and when I moved to L.A., I wanted to be
- 43:47Speaker 7: number one on the call sheet and number one on
- 43:49Speaker 7: the movie poster, and Rockulo I was, and I got
- 43:52Speaker 7: to sing and play guitar, and they gave me money
- 43:54Speaker 7: for it. And had it been a different... You know,
- 43:58Speaker 7: the studio was going under at the time, so... Had
- 44:02Speaker 7: they put money behind it, I think it could have
- 44:04Speaker 7: been a bigger movie and.
- 44:05Speaker 4: They marketed it right.
- 44:07Speaker 7: But I'm proud of it. There's a couple scenes in
- 44:09Speaker 7: it where I'm not happy with my work, but I'm
- 44:12Speaker 7: happy with the movie.
- 44:13Speaker 4: Once again, thank you to Dean for sharing his memories
- 44:16Speaker 4: of Rockula. And he actually has a relatively good take
- 44:22Speaker 4: on it. He seemed to enjoy the process. I liked
- 44:28Speaker 4: you told this earlier, but I thought it would also
- 44:30Speaker 4: be a good way to intro into it We'll get
- 44:33Speaker 4: to what your thoughts were on the movie, but would
- 44:35Speaker 4: you tell us what your wife said about it as she.
- 44:38Speaker 1: Well, my wife works from home. She was doing work
- 44:41Speaker 1: in the same room that I was watching the movie.
- 44:43Speaker 1: And we get to the end of it, and she said.
- 44:46Speaker 4: You.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Know, she's on her computer for most of the time.
- 44:49Speaker 1: And she said, I didn't even watch this movie, and
- 44:53Speaker 1: I hate it.
- 44:55Speaker 8: And, you know.
- 44:57Speaker 4: I think it speaks for a lot of people, actually.
- 45:00Speaker 4: That's why I wanted to throw it out there. I
- 45:01Speaker 4: was like, there's a big span here of how people
- 45:05Speaker 4: are going to feel about this movie. I think it's
- 45:08Speaker 4: definitely one of those movies that it's kind of hard
- 45:11Speaker 4: to be in the middle. You're going to be on
- 45:12Speaker 4: one side or the other, and she definitely fell where
- 45:16Speaker 4: a lot of people probably do. She hates most movies,
- 45:18Speaker 4: so don't.
- 45:19Speaker 1: You know.
- 45:21Speaker 4: Oh, especially the kind of stuff we watch. Right.
- 45:24Speaker 1: She asked why we watched this kind of stuff. That
- 45:28Speaker 1: was her specific words about this.
- 45:30Speaker 4: Just to befuddle you, honey. Yeah.
- 45:33Speaker 2: To piss you off.
- 45:36Speaker 4: To just confuse you. That's probably what the listeners are thinking, too. So,
- 45:41Speaker 4: aside from why we watched it, where else would you
- 45:44Speaker 4: like to go? You know, it goes back to.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Because that's the entire thing of the movie, is that it's...
- 45:52Speaker 1: music video kind of just one after another song, not
- 45:55Speaker 1: really a musical, but it, it goes back to that
- 46:00Speaker 1: thing of, I think of the eighties where someone in
- 46:05Speaker 1: a movie could be, say they're in a band and
- 46:08Speaker 1: the next day have gigs at big clubs and become
- 46:11Speaker 1: a hit. It was like this mythos that you could
- 46:15Speaker 1: become in a band and be successful.
- 46:18Speaker 4: And it's, You know, I can play music. That isn't
- 46:20Speaker 4: how it works.
- 46:21Speaker 1: And it just, that is what that time period was.
- 46:27Speaker 4: Yeah, you could put a band together. In a montage?
- 46:32Speaker 1: It's almost like this movie was the vampire, the cheesy
- 46:37Speaker 1: vampire version of Howard the Duck.
- 46:39Speaker 4: Yeah, actually, I was going to make a reference to
- 46:42Speaker 4: that by the end here. So yeah, I'll come back
- 46:45Speaker 4: around to that.
- 46:45Speaker 2: All right.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Didn't mean to steal your thunder. No, but it definitely
- 46:49Speaker 4: ties in on a couple of levels. I thought for
- 46:54Speaker 4: a while, when it came up on screen, and.
- 46:58Speaker 1: This has nothing to do with the story of the movie,
- 47:02Speaker 1: but if someone told me that there was a movie
- 47:05Speaker 1: out there that Bo Diddley dressed up in spandex, yellow spandex,
- 47:12Speaker 1: and rapped, I would have said, there's no way in hell. Obviously,
- 47:20Speaker 1: I was wrong. If you've seen this, you know what
- 47:22Speaker 1: I'm talking about.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that is awesome.
- 47:26Speaker 4: You can't not think that's awesome. It's horrible, but it's awesome.
- 47:30Speaker 4: I mean, in a way, that almost sums up the
- 47:33Speaker 4: entire movie. Because it falls into both categories.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:39Speaker 4: I guess it takes a certain type of person to
- 47:42Speaker 4: recognize the awesomeness involved. Most people will very freely see
- 47:46Speaker 4: the horrible end of it, but again, I think it
- 47:50Speaker 4: depends on where your taste lies, and I don't know.
- 47:55Speaker 4: I think it very heavily plays on, and this is
- 47:59Speaker 4: something that over the years has become a thing, and
- 48:02Speaker 4: I've seen a lot of movies do this. It's one
- 48:04Speaker 4: of those, like, I can almost see somebody going, this
- 48:07Speaker 4: is going to be the next Rocky Horror movie. And
- 48:10Speaker 4: that movie has gotten... In recent years, it seems like
- 48:13Speaker 4: I've heard a lot more people kind of hate on
- 48:15Speaker 4: that one. I mean, Rocky has its core group, but
- 48:18Speaker 4: as time's going on, I think the novelty's worn off,
- 48:20Speaker 4: and a lot of people are just like, oh, fuck
- 48:22Speaker 4: that movie, I hate that. And I think sometimes more
- 48:25Speaker 4: so because the fans are really obnoxious. And I was one,
- 48:28Speaker 4: so I can make fun of you, and I still
- 48:29Speaker 4: kind of am one, but I just don't make it
- 48:31Speaker 4: out to see it anymore. But I certainly did my
- 48:34Speaker 4: time in the theater, but I don't think I ever
- 48:37Speaker 4: fell into that category of of the hardcore fans that
- 48:40Speaker 4: were around me. I was there every week with them,
- 48:43Speaker 4: but I didn't fit, as most places in my life.
- 48:46Speaker 4: I didn't fit in there either. So I understand why
- 48:50Speaker 4: people are annoyed by those fans and the whole surrounding
- 48:53Speaker 4: of that. And this movie feels like it could have
- 48:56Speaker 4: very easily been somebody greenlighting it somewhere up the line.
- 49:00Speaker 4: They didn't throw a ton of money at it, but
- 49:02Speaker 4: they were just enough to be like, this could catch
- 49:04Speaker 4: on in its own weird little underground way. It's got
- 49:07Speaker 4: just enough weird kitschiness to it that it's like if
- 49:10Speaker 4: the right crowd finds it they would fall in love
- 49:13Speaker 4: with it they'll go see it every week whereas the
- 49:15Speaker 4: rest of the people are going to be like what
- 49:16Speaker 4: the hell is this.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Not necessarily every week but I'm surprised it's not at
- 49:20Speaker 2: the Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, or Little Shop of Horrors.
- 49:24Speaker 2: No one's really heard of this movie.
- 49:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:26Speaker 4: I mean, recently it's sort of got a resurgence, and
- 49:30Speaker 4: I've heard a lot of other shows mention it, but yeah,
- 49:33Speaker 4: for a good long span of time there, it just...
- 49:37Speaker 4: disappeared off the radar and nobody you know thought about
- 49:40Speaker 4: it again.
- 49:40Speaker 14: So it's almost not bad enough you know be that
- 49:47Speaker 14: right it skates the line it's like there's times when
- 49:50Speaker 14: it it is kind of genius in how cheesy it
- 49:53Speaker 14: is right and then there's other times when it's just
- 49:55Speaker 14: kind of a mediocre 80s movie right right.
- 49:58Speaker 1: It goes back and forth but i don't know i
- 50:01Speaker 1: i could see a theater full of goofy cult fans
- 50:05Speaker 1: watching the rapula scene and just having a ball with
- 50:09Speaker 1: it and.
- 50:09Speaker 4: It's funny it took me like this time i mean
- 50:12Speaker 4: i've seen that scene a few times and i just
- 50:14Speaker 4: went oh that's terrible i mean please stop And it's funny,
- 50:19Speaker 4: it took me this time to be like, that's almost
- 50:22Speaker 4: one of the moments that's kind of genius because they
- 50:25Speaker 4: realize how bad it is. I mean, he's wearing like
- 50:28Speaker 4: a spandex jumpsuit with like tiny whities over top of it.
- 50:33Speaker 4: And he's wearing like sprayed gold records around his neck.
- 50:37Speaker 4: I mean, it's ridiculous. It's massively over the top. He
- 50:40Speaker 4: knows how stupid... He's being in the process, so it's, like,
- 50:44Speaker 4: on that level. Like, if it was just bad and
- 50:46Speaker 4: they were unaware of it, I guess that's enjoyable in
- 50:49Speaker 4: its own way, too. But this one, I mean, you
- 50:52Speaker 4: can't just, like, oh, God, they're terrible. It's, like, they
- 50:54Speaker 4: knew in 19... Well, that's a whole other thing. We'll
- 50:57Speaker 4: claim 1990 they knew how bad it.
- 50:59Speaker 11: Was, but.
- 51:00Speaker 4: I mean, it's, yeah, it knows what it is at
- 51:04Speaker 4: moments and it kind of revels in that. And then
- 51:06Speaker 4: there are other times when I don't, again, I think
- 51:08Speaker 4: people just weren't putting enough care in the middle portions. But,
- 51:12Speaker 4: I mean, there are those moments that I'm like, this
- 51:14Speaker 4: is epic bad. This is like bad, kind of genius
- 51:18Speaker 4: bad of how cheesy and ridiculous and over the top
- 51:21Speaker 4: and like lavishly produced some of this ridiculous stuff is. Well,
- 51:28Speaker 4: it almost is.
- 51:29Speaker 1: There almost isn't enough story there for the film because.
- 51:34Speaker 4: It's almost like a sitcom plot line. It's got about
- 51:37Speaker 4: a half hour worth of plot, and then they just
- 51:40Speaker 4: fill it in with a lot of songs. A lot
- 51:41Speaker 4: of songs.
- 51:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it's... What is it? It comes in under 90 minutes.
- 51:47Speaker 4: I think so.
- 51:48Speaker 1: And you still have... 12 songs probably in the film.
- 51:53Speaker 4: So at least seven or eight full length. I mean,
- 51:57Speaker 4: you get a few other little pieces here and there,
- 51:59Speaker 4: but I mean, there's, there's several times where it just
- 52:02Speaker 4: stops and you get music video sometimes literally as you
- 52:06Speaker 4: find out or full on performance and at the club
- 52:10Speaker 4: or what, I mean, it really does just stop and become,
- 52:13Speaker 4: you know, Okay, here's the song. And, you know, that's
- 52:16Speaker 4: a good portion of the movie, actually. Oh, God, Mona.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Why don't you watch where you're going?
- 52:21Speaker 10: I could have.
- 52:21Speaker 1: How did you know my name?
- 52:24Speaker 12: I don't know your name.
- 52:26Speaker 3: You don't know my name.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Just pretend this never happened, okay? This never would have
- 52:30Speaker 2: happened if you hadn't jumped out in front of my car.
- 52:33Speaker 2: I hope for your sake my gear isn't trashed.
- 52:35Speaker 10: Just forget you ever saw me, okay?
- 52:37Speaker 9: Because the next thing you know.
- 52:38Speaker 13: We're going to go out on a date, we're going
- 52:40Speaker 13: to fall in love, and then some crazy pirate's going
- 52:43Speaker 13: to peg you with a ham bone.
- 52:45Speaker 4: Where do you want to go next? Well, I mean,
- 52:49Speaker 4: I'll go back to what I was just saying a
- 52:50Speaker 4: minute ago and what Dean brought up earlier.
- 52:54Speaker 10: It had.
- 52:55Speaker 4: problems getting out. I mean, it was actually from what
- 52:57Speaker 4: I heard shot in like 88 and didn't surface until 90.
- 53:02Speaker 4: So that's also kind of part of like it missing
- 53:04Speaker 4: its window. Like, I mean, number one, like you were saying,
- 53:07Speaker 4: just bad marketing, like that the studio didn't get behind it,
- 53:10Speaker 4: which granted it is a hard sell, I'd say, but still,
- 53:14Speaker 4: I mean, you, if you marketed it right, you could
- 53:16Speaker 4: find at least a core group of kids that would
- 53:19Speaker 4: probably run out and see it just for the, you know,
- 53:21Speaker 4: goofy stuff going on or the people involved. But yeah,
- 53:23Speaker 4: They obviously didn't do that, but also somewhere along the way,
- 53:26Speaker 4: it got lost in the cracks where one studio was
- 53:30Speaker 4: getting bought out or something like that and changing hands.
- 53:33Speaker 4: And somewhere along the way, this thing got lost. And
- 53:36Speaker 4: in that couple of years, it also kind of loses something.
- 53:40Speaker 4: I mean, it is a very 80s movie. So it's
- 53:43Speaker 4: funny when you look at it and go, this came
- 53:44Speaker 4: out in 90s.
- 53:45Speaker 2: I was thinking it seemed like an 80s movie.
- 53:47Speaker 4: Yeah, and it technically is. It looks like an 80s movie.
- 53:50Speaker 4: It's shot as an 80s movie. It's an 80s movie
- 53:53Speaker 4: that didn't make its way out until the 90s. So,
- 53:55Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, I think that also helps it feel
- 53:58Speaker 4: a little out of place. You know, it definitely feels
- 54:01Speaker 4: more so now, but now I guess you even get
- 54:03Speaker 4: a little cheesy nostalgia out of it.
- 54:06Speaker 1: The whole thing's kind of out of place because it
- 54:07Speaker 1: has blues and it has... you know, 80s pop, and
- 54:12Speaker 1: it has, like I said, rap, and it's just kind
- 54:16Speaker 1: of a hodgepodge of everything.
- 54:20Speaker 4: And that time period was kind of like that anyway. Yeah,
- 54:22Speaker 4: the 80s definitely.
- 54:22Speaker 1: You've had the dying out of some styles of rock
- 54:25Speaker 1: and the emergence of others. Like the one when they're
- 54:28Speaker 1: doing the montage, and there's, you know, the rockers that
- 54:32Speaker 1: are on the street that he goes and talks to,
- 54:34Speaker 1: and they have the teased hair and look like they're from...
- 54:37Speaker 1: Cinderella or something like that and the dude's got on
- 54:39Speaker 1: a red hot chili pepper shirt which in 88 would
- 54:43Speaker 1: have been yeah that's you're on the cusp of what's
- 54:46Speaker 1: new you know and not anything of what.
- 54:49Speaker 4: And nothing at all yeah.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Motley Crue would look like or anything and so.
- 54:53Speaker 4: I decided they looked like enough is enough there's there's
- 54:56Speaker 4: an odd reference for you yeah but I was like
- 54:58Speaker 4: I think some of those guys might actually be from the.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Band right and so yeah it's like and and think
- 55:05Speaker 1: Music and movies didn't really know what they were at
- 55:08Speaker 1: that time.
- 55:09Speaker 4: And that's kind of what this was. It's just everything
- 55:11Speaker 4: was thrown in. Yeah, I think that's what it is.
- 55:13Speaker 4: It's like get everything that's sort of kind of popular
- 55:16Speaker 4: and just throw it and see what sticks kind of idea.
- 55:18Speaker 4: I mean, the 80s was really like that. I mean,
- 55:21Speaker 4: you look at music and movies and stuff. It really
- 55:23Speaker 4: was just kind of like. here's a lot of stuff, and,
- 55:26Speaker 4: you know, especially once they started making those cheap knockoff
- 55:29Speaker 4: kind of movies and music that was tapping into those
- 55:32Speaker 4: kind of markets that were just like, okay, let's just
- 55:35Speaker 4: go with what's popular and get it out there. I mean, granted,
- 55:37Speaker 4: they've been marketing like that, you know, for years. It's
- 55:40Speaker 4: always kind of like, okay, quick, you know, jump on
- 55:43Speaker 4: this little hot property and get it out there, but
- 55:45Speaker 4: the 80s definitely, like, found that and went with it
- 55:48Speaker 4: pretty heavy, so this falls into that category.
- 55:53Speaker 1: I also wonder how they got I mean, Thomas Dolby,
- 55:57Speaker 1: who might be the best part of the movie.
- 55:59Speaker 4: Or worst. I can't decide. It's like there's times when
- 56:02Speaker 4: I'm like, he's really good, but he's also so annoying
- 56:05Speaker 4: that it's almost too good, which makes it annoying and bad.
- 56:10Speaker 4: And I really can't make up my mind how I
- 56:11Speaker 4: feel about it. I don't know, the commercial?
- 56:12Speaker 1: The commercial's genius.
- 56:15Speaker 2: I love those commercials.
- 56:16Speaker 1: Those were awesome.
- 56:17Speaker 4: Those were the moments I was just like, see, they
- 56:19Speaker 4: know what they're doing at times. It's like they're really
- 56:22Speaker 4: being kind of smart, and they're writing this stuff that, again,
- 56:26Speaker 4: could almost just be taken out and put in something else.
- 56:28Speaker 4: It doesn't have to be in this movie. It's a
- 56:31Speaker 4: clever little bit, and they worked it in. Because, I mean,
- 56:34Speaker 4: other than that, does he ever– Other than those commercials,
- 56:37Speaker 4: does the fact that he runs that business ever come
- 56:40Speaker 4: into play? Other than the cryogenic freezing. At the very end,
- 56:45Speaker 4: they need a weird tie-in. But, I mean, really, you
- 56:47Speaker 4: could have thrown that in there any number of ways.
- 56:49Speaker 4: It's not like you have to be super illogical in
- 56:51Speaker 4: this movie anyway. So, I mean... Well, his mother.
- 56:57Speaker 2: That dance sequence was just, like, terrible.
- 57:00Speaker 4: But, again, that's another one of those that I was like,
- 57:02Speaker 4: this is awesomely bad. Like, it's bad... But it's so
- 57:07Speaker 4: ridiculous and, like, that's the one, like, throwing in types
- 57:11Speaker 4: of music. I mean, this was sort of pre-Goth. I mean,
- 57:14Speaker 4: when they work in her whole little number. That was
- 57:17Speaker 4: a pre-Goth.
- 57:17Speaker 2: Goth happened in the 80s. I mean, like, pre-modern Goth.
- 57:21Speaker 4: Well, I mean, of the kids that tapped into it.
- 57:22Speaker 4: I mean, you didn't have that little run of kids, like,
- 57:25Speaker 4: the Hot Topic kids until mid-90s.
- 57:27Speaker 2: Yeah, but, I mean, you had, like, the Cure kids and, like,
- 57:30Speaker 2: all the 80s Goth.
- 57:33Speaker 4: But to me, that's taking itself really seriously, where this
- 57:37Speaker 4: is more of that cheesy, like, when everybody threw a
- 57:41Speaker 4: goth character in. It became more of that watered-down mainstream version,
- 57:45Speaker 4: which is what this little dance number is just like.
- 57:47Speaker 4: It's trying to play on the horror theme, but at
- 57:49Speaker 4: the same time, it's tapping into cheesy 80s music.
- 57:52Speaker 2: I think it's a lot more like an Elvira kind
- 57:54Speaker 2: of thing.
- 57:55Speaker 4: Kind of. More than anything.
- 57:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:57Speaker 4: But again, that's just a whole other type of music
- 57:59Speaker 4: they threw in there. Right. Just throwing more stuff in
- 58:02Speaker 4: the middle of this.
- 58:04Speaker 1: And I understood that she got her scene in the house.
- 58:07Speaker 1: I don't know why she would be dancing in front
- 58:09Speaker 1: of them. That's very weird. But the one when she
- 58:12Speaker 1: goes to the club and they just stop the movie
- 58:15Speaker 1: and her and the other guy do a little dance
- 58:17Speaker 1: number at the club. I'm like... It's almost like she
- 58:20Speaker 1: was contracted to have so much dance time in the movie.
- 58:24Speaker 4: She's Tony Basil. I know. Again, you get these names,
- 58:27Speaker 4: you have to kind of make use of them.
- 58:28Speaker 2: I thought she was so adorable in that movie. She
- 58:31Speaker 2: was just so cute. I mean, like, she was kind
- 58:35Speaker 2: of annoying, but in a cute way.
- 58:37Speaker 4: I mean, that's the thing. You have to look.
- 58:39Speaker 2: best of your mother she was just so dramatic and
- 58:43Speaker 2: it was adorable just.
- 58:44Speaker 4: The names that they brought in I mean you know
- 58:47Speaker 4: and sometimes don't do anything with Bo Diddley I mean
- 58:50Speaker 4: why would you buy and that was at the point
- 58:52Speaker 4: where he was really popular again I mean he'd gone
- 58:54Speaker 4: through that you know disappearance and nobody paid any attention
- 58:57Speaker 4: to him in pop culture and then like he hit
- 59:00Speaker 4: that like 80s you know Bo knows thing and like
- 59:03Speaker 4: came back with a vengeance and everybody knew who he
- 59:05Speaker 4: was again so if you were going to do something
- 59:07Speaker 4: with him Why would it be this? And if you
- 59:10Speaker 4: were going to put him in something, why would you
- 59:12Speaker 4: just make him sit in the background and have almost
- 59:14Speaker 4: no lines, have nothing to do except be background in
- 59:18Speaker 4: most of the scenes that he's in? I'm just like,
- 59:20Speaker 4: you could get anybody to do that. Why would you
- 59:22Speaker 4: get Bo Denley? And also, they never really, I mean,
- 59:26Speaker 4: once or twice he sort of plucks the guitar. I'm
- 59:28Speaker 4: just like, he's holding a guitar half the time. Let
- 59:31Speaker 4: that dude play guitar. I'm like, why? It's so frustrating
- 59:35Speaker 4: with him. At least they make use of Tony Basil
- 59:38Speaker 4: and I mean, they're sometimes in bad ways, but they
- 59:42Speaker 4: at least make use of them, where he just was
- 59:44Speaker 4: so wasted. It's a shame. Man, that dude sure got
- 59:48Speaker 4: the blues.
- 59:54Speaker 2: What's the name of the lady who is the bartender?
- 59:58Speaker 4: That's the one I was going to ask if you knew.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: She's Crybaby. Chuck the bartender. That's right. It's Susan Tyrell,
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: but do you know who else she is? I mean,
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: I do, but I.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: Can't think of what it is right now. I know
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: she's the lady in Cry Baby, and there's something else
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: that I realized recently.
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: That's the other big, yeah, because I'd forgotten Cry Baby,
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: but I was sitting there going, I know I know her,
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: and why?
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: I feel like I discovered this recently, and now I
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: can't think of what it is.
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: Yeah, she is the queen in Forbidden Zone.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what it is.
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: Wow.
- 1:00:29Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: Which is like huge for, you know, the few geeks
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: that love that movie and where most of us are here.
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean, I, it, that movie is amazing. So,
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: and she's one of the main roles in it basically.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: So yeah, as soon as I saw her, that's what
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: I was tapping into. And in a way, again, that's
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: sort of. that crowd it's like finding that weird midnight
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: and putting all these people putting her and tony basil
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: and thomas dolby in a movie it's like and bo
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: did it's like this is i mean that's definitely tapping
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: into that weird little niche out.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: There that's what i'm saying it's like this movie is
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: so everything that you know people who are fans of
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: these weird musicals like Or, you know, it's just so
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: many genres, like weird campy horror movies from the 80s
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: or weird campy musicals. You know, it's like that's what
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: this movie is and no one knows what it is.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: It's just like it was just poorly marketed.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: It's like the biggest firework you could have that you
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: get from the store and it being a dud. Kind of.
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: It pays off sometimes. It's got a few sparks and stuff.
- 1:01:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: There are some duds that you're like, oh, that could
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: have gone so much better, you know?
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: Yeah, by the end, that's right.
- 1:01:40Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: But there's, again, there's really good reasons to watch it, too.
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: There's some payoffs.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: I mean, the other movies that we've mentioned are definitely better,
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: but it's not, like, a huge disappointment. Like, where you're
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: just like, this movie should be way more awesome than
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: it is. Or like, wrist cutters, where you're like, this
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: movie should be way more awesome than it is. I
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: didn't feel like that at the end of this movie.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: I mean, it was like, it wasn't a fantastic movie,
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: but it was good. You know, it was good enough.
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: I think I, and again, mostly in the last few years,
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: like as it sort of resurfaced in at least the
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: geek crowd that we are, I mean, it definitely got
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: so much attention. flack it's like it got such a
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: bad reputation right off the bat and not that it
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: probably didn't earn one back in the day but when
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: it resurfaced I heard so many people talk so bad
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: about it that I went in like expecting just horrible
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: and I'm like okay there's times when it's delivering a
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: pretty bad movie and then like I said there's other
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: scenes and I'm like this is kind of one of
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: those movies that I mean there are those movies that
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: like this is epic bad and this is kind of
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: genius and how ridiculous it is and it's got those moments.
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: It's certainly not all the way through. It's not a
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: perfect mixture, but yeah, to me, I was expecting worse
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: going in and was kind of had fun with what
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: was there more or less.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Yeah. It's one of those that if you lower your expectations,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: you can have, I mean, it can, it's just fine.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: You know, if you know that it's a late night movie, it's,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: it's a good, I mean, I'm not going to say
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: good movie.
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: It's a fun movie. It's a fun movie. It's funny
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: that you said almost exactly like I found that in
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: one of the IMDb little rundowns, somebody said, and this
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: is their quote, watch it with low expectations and you
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: might be entertained with an ultra cheesy movie. That's like
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: everything we said, including the cheesy food earlier. So, yeah,
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: I was like that. That's kind of how you have
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: to approach it. Normally, I think that's a cop out.
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: Like I usually hate when people are like, oh, what
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: were we expecting? A big, you know, Oscar. Like sometimes
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: I'm like, well, you can make comedies and you can
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: make like lower brow stuff that's not stupid. You know,
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: I mean, you can make. cheesy stuff that's not stupid.
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: There's a way to make those as well-made movies and
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: smart movies and still tap into the market you're going for.
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: I think it's usually a cop-out to be like, well,
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: just don't expect much. And so I'm like, no, I
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: kind of want to set the bar a little higher
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: with any movie. It's like, I kind of want them to,
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: to strive to be a better movie. But there are
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: times when you can just turn that off and be like, well, Let's,
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: you know, just enjoy what is here. And this has
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: definitely got those moments in.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: You're going to have to explain to me why Tony
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Basil dressed up like a gypsy.
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: The sneaky plot going on. I think that was only
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: to confuse us. I just, and that's the thing. There
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: is no scene explained. Because I assumed I knew the
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: answer all along. And I kept waiting for the scene
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: where she then reveals this.
- 1:04:43Speaker 10: Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: I thought it was her perpetuating this so that, you know,
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: he doesn't end up with the girl and go off
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: and leave her. I thought she's, she's a mom. She
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: wants to, I mean, how many hundreds of years has
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: she been playing mom to this kid? And she didn't want,
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: and as long as this scenario keeps going, he's going
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: to have to wait for her next time. And he's just,
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: he's the same dorky kid. So he's not going to
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: go anywhere on his own. But if he falls in
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: love with this girl, he might go off and leave
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: her and get his own place with her. And she's,
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: trapped by herself for all eternity.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: So.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: I think she does say that. She said, I'm your
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: mom and I don't want.
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: Kind of, but I mean, usually, especially in a movie
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: like this, you expect them to just read it out
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: to you.
- 1:05:20Speaker 15: Right, right.
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: Word for word, what we were thinking in this, you know, plot.
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: But they don't ever really do that. They just sort
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: of like, oh, time for the movie to be over,
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: so hurry up and start singing.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Yeah, because at the end, he's like, she's a traitor.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: And then she says something, I didn't catch it.
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: I'm your mother.
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: Whatever.
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: And he instantly forgives her.
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I know. It was.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: I was like, you've been killing this girl for how
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: many generations now? And, ah, whatever.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't get that at all.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that seemed, again, like a very.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: I think they're like, we're at studio time, wrap it up.
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: Yeah, that seemed like a very convenient little plot point of, eh, whatever,
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: just make it work. Keep it up.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: I was very confused about that. I'm glad it wasn't
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: explained because I felt really stupid for not getting it.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: No, they really do kind of skim over that whole
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: little area.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: It's like, that's a huge part of the plot. Like,
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: and they're just like.
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: Well, and even involving Thomas Dolby as the one, I mean, that's...
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: You kind of get that, but they really don't go
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: into it. Again, maybe this is where they needed more
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: of all that story. It's like, one time he says,
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: she's my ex-girlfriend, but they never really go into that.
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: When you meet them, they're just two random people, and
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: he's showing his commercial, and you really don't get what
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: they are as a relationship.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: And why does he even think that he has to
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: kill her to... It doesn't make.
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: you know yeah that doesn't make any sense that didn't
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: work for me really because it's like well why and
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: he also didn't seem like he was that into her
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: like it'd be different if oh i love her i
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: must make her mine or that would almost be motivation
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: to go through some sort of elaborate plot and dealing
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: with this mysterious gypsy or whatever the hell's going on
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: right but it's like we never really got that like
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: they didn't seem like they even liked each other most
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: of the time Ever. Like, it's not even like it's
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: a former thing. Like, it just seemed like they had
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: no chemistry ever, and now, for some reason, he's going
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: through this elaborate plot to then kill her, which makes
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: even less sense, really.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: Because, you know, what I gathered from the first of
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: the movie, she was, like, accidentally killed. He was, like,
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: fighting for her, and she was accidentally killed.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: Then it was just like, yeah, I'm just going to
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: cryogenically freeze her.
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: Because when she wakes up in a hundred years, she'll
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: want me then. Yeah.
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: Again, convenient plot points that make no... Let's just... Move
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: on to the next scene.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: Just say some words here. Very strange.
- 1:07:34Speaker 10: Oh yeah.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: Definitely had a lot of loose ends.
- 1:07:38Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: Yeah. Kind of.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Well, when you have a, you know, a sword fight
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: between a guy with a hand bone and a guy
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: with a peg leg, a sparkly, a spark, a rhinestone,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: it's going to be, you know.
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: Uh, you're dealing with a very special kind of movie.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: It was poorly done.
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: That's okay. Um, Yeah, I mean, that was, like, even, like,
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: a bad production of a stage play. Like, most high
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: school levels would be better this little sword play going
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: on here. Yeah, they wrapped up that.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Whole end sequence in, like, a half a day.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: They're like, okay, two takes, we're done. This, this, this. No,
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: don't ask questions of why we're doing it.
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: Just move on. Just get to the end.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: Maybe that was maybe they finished the movie right when
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: they were having problems with the studio and they were
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: just kind of like eh fuck it let's finish it just.
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: To finish it it might have been or it might
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: have been they pulled the money out at that point
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: and went well you make it work you got a
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: day left in the studio and go down they.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: Could have shot all the videos first and had everything
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: done and then okay how are we going to do this.
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: Because that's where most of the money looks like I
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: mean the bigger production of everything in this is all
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: like everything else is just him standing there you know
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: it's like There's not anything else that's elaborate other than
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: the dream sequences, some of which are still worked into
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: the song.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: So yeah they.
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: Could have shot all of that in one shot while
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: they still had money to me because it just.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Felt really rushed and like unfinished.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: Yeah kind of where everything worked the most was when
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: he was having conversations with himself what do you.
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: Want come here and talk to me.
- 1:09:22Speaker 10: How's it hanging?
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: Is that all you wanted?
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: To ask me how's it hanging?
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Come on, Ralphie, I'm worried about you.
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: A couple of hours, it's going to be Friday the 13th.
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: Let me guess, you have a headache, right?
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: Right, and a sore throat, too.
- 1:09:37Speaker 13: And you think you're coming down with the flu or
- 1:09:39Speaker 13: something really serious, right?
- 1:09:41Speaker 8: Right, I just can't go through with this again.
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: Let me see your tongue.
- 1:09:44Speaker 7: Come on.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: That doesn't look too bad.
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: Is that in your retainer?
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it hurts like heck.
- 1:09:52Speaker 10: I'm sorry.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: I know this legend thing is tough.
- 1:09:55Speaker 7: Let's take a moment and reflect.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Reflect!
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: Get it? Mirror, reflect! God, I killed myself! I was
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: going to address that. I was like, what? Again, with
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: weird plot points. Why is a vampire who doesn't have
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: a reflection talking to his reflection?
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: It's a twist i.
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: Mean it is it's clever i mean it's something i
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: haven't seen before but at the same time it also
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: doesn't make any sense right well i mean it would
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: almost make more sense if he were a normal character
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: and his reflection just started talking back to him and
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: it's part of his weird you know brain but this
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: makes even less sense since he is a vampire they've
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: proven it's not Like, he just thinks he's a vampire.
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: He is a vampire. Right. But yet, he's talking to
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: his reflection.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: And that's not even consistent in all vampire movies or
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: mythology or whatever. A vampire can or can't have a reflection, whatever.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: But they made it a point for his mom to
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: walk in front of him and be like, oh, I forgot.
- 1:10:55Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: That's what I was going to say. I was like, yeah,
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: it's not like we never saw it used at any
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: other point. Maybe they do, but no, she's specifically like, ah, so... Well,
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: and it could.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Be because she says that she doesn't have a reflection.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: It could be that that is not the vampire part
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: of him, but the... he's messed up in the head
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: part of him. And it's just a manifestation because he
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: doesn't have a reflection if he's a vampire.
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: So it's just him, you know, messing with his brain.
- 1:11:22Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: I mean, I assumed there's a part of it that's
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: sort of his like schizophrenia of the other half of
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: his brain. That's telling him to do all these things
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: that are, and it's usually the, the salacious version of him,
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: or it's the, you know, the evil quote unquote version
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: of him.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: So, or maybe like, I don't know if this is
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: a stretch, but like, Maybe in the supernatural world, vampires,
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: since they don't have reflections, there's this weird.
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: Other... Schism.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: Other, like, supernatural being that comes and is their reflection
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: because they don't have one. And it's just like this,
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: like you're a team, like you're psychic. Like your reflection
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: is your psychic.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: It certainly was for him.
- 1:12:03Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: I love how they address the sunblock. And that was it. Yeah,
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: we're going to handle that and move on.
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: Well, that's what I was going to say. Like, this
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: is so, like, let's pretend to be a horror movie,
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: but anything horror related is so glossed over and, like.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: done for laughs at best if they bothered to address it.
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: But yeah, like the mirror thing doesn't follow through with
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: any horror. Yeah, go out in the sunlight, which again,
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: in some versions of the story, they aren't all that.
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: Maybe they're sensitive to light, but they won't burst into flames.
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: This one, they will burst into flames. Maybe he'll just sparkle.
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: Maybe he'll sparkle. But no, he just pulls a blade
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: and he's, yep, yep, sunblock, I'm cool. I can go
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: stand out in the middle of the bright, shiny day
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: and it won't hurt me a bit.
- 1:12:47Speaker 7: Or a.
- 1:12:48Speaker 5: what was the oh the garlic yeah i like garlic
- 1:12:50Speaker 5: yeah i love like again everything like that should be
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: they're totally going against but almost not in a like
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: defiance i'm going to change the horror genre way in
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: a like almost in a twilight way of wait what's
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: supposed to happen in horror oh fuck it we.
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: Don't want to do that no i like garlic and
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: yeah the cross the cross he's like which was sort
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: of a funny little joke there um what else When
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: he said, what about one of these?
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Have you ever seen one of these?
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: And holds it in his face.
- 1:13:17Speaker 10: 18th century?
- 1:13:17Speaker 4: That's nice. And he grabs it out of his hand.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: Or like the ultimate, blood. He's creeped out by blood.
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: In a way, they're just playing with the normal horror
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: movie themes. But it is funny that everything across the board,
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: anything that would make him a vampire doesn't match up
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: in this movie at all.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: You know, it almost doesn't need to even be a...
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: a Dracula at all movie at all.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: I mean, it could be anything. I mean, he could
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: be werewolf rockstar, you know, he could be like anything really.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: I mean, it could, how long after Teen Wolf did this?
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: Teen Wolf's pretty, it's like 86. Well, I think it's
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: another one of those that got made earlier. Cause I
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: think that was made before back to the future and
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: then sat on the shelf till, Oh my God, this
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: guy's a, you know, multi-million dollar movie star and, And
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: then they put it out. So I think it was
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: released 86, but if I remember it was shot well
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: before Back to the Future was made. But do you
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: think they said, let's do a Teen Wolf? Kind of.
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: And we'll make, instead of basketball, it's Rockstar. And instead of,
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: you know. That could have been part of the marketing.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Where Wolf is Vampire.
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: But Teen Wolf has no song. So they're like, well,
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: let's tap into this. You know, these big musical things
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: have a weird following. Let's get in there. They do
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: have a lot of basketball, so. I mean, that's more
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: a basketball movie than it is a werewolf movie. It
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: really is, actually. It's a very basketball-heavy movie. And you're like,
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: I hate basketball. Let's turn this off. I love werewolves,
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: but I hate basketball.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: It's all about style. What was the other one?
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: A wrestling movie or something like that? Yeah, I think
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: he's like a wrestler. Team Wolf 2.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't even know there was a movie.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: Jason Bateman. Jason Bateman.
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:14:56Speaker 10: Wow.
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: That's a bad one. I'm going to have to watch that.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: I wonder if it's on Netflix.
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: I mean, the first one's bad, but I like it. Right.
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: The second one's just, yeah, didn't need to be made. Oh,
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: Jason Bateman. Oh, man.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: What did Jason Bateman start in?
- 1:15:10Speaker 8: What was it?
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: Silver Spoons.
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: He was a jackass on Silver Spoons.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: And then he had the one show with... He was
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: the older brother.
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: What was that? Well, take your pick. It started off
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: as Valerie. That's right. And then what do you do
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: when you have a show built around a main character
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: and the character leaves?
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: Sandy Duncan comes in with her wife.
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: Yeah, then it becomes basically two and a half men
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: at this point. It's like, oh, well, we need something
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: to keep this damn thing going. So, yeah, then it
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: became Valerie's family for a season or so. And then
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: eventually once everybody forgot Valerie was ever on there, it
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: was the Hogan family.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: You know, that was the same house as that one
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Brady kind of movie or show that Suzanne.
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: Somers was in. Oh, the Step by Step? Step by Step.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: It was the exact same house.
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: It's sad that I know it because I hated that
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: damn show.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: I loved Step by Step, but I was like eight.
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: Yeah, it was terrible.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: Well, picture that house with Jason Bateman in it. That's
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: what that show was.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: I always like when you notice that they've reused a house.
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: I love that.
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my god, it's the Brady house or something.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: No, you couldn't redo the Brady house. No, it was
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: so iconic and so 70s. Yeah, weird. It didn't match
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: any other sitcom. He was an architect. Yeah, I know.
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: That's why they could do that. They had license then. Alright,
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: we veer away from vampires.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: Anyway, where it started though was I really did, I
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: think he played well with himself that sounds.
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: Really gross okay kids it's not that kind of movie
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: although there is one reference to him whipping it out
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: yeah in the fun mirror yeah that was that was
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: a low that was a low I was just like
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: well you know you would probably have to check just
- 1:17:03Speaker 4: out of general curiosity but I thought those were some
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: of the more entertaining interactions in the movie with him
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: with Talking to himself. Yeah.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: His other self was hilarious.
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: And a jerk. And a jerk. And a jerk. Yeah,
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: pretty much.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: Smooth. No, but then when he breaks out of the
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: wall and into the.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: It's like Nicolas Cage in an Elvis costume is what
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: he's playing.
- 1:17:36Speaker 10: You know what I mean?
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: It's not an Elvis impersonation. It's Nicolas Cage impersonating Elvis. Sadly, yeah.
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: I don't know who the three ladies were supposed to
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: be that came with him.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: I'm not sure if it was the Pointer Sisters or
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: En Vogue, but it was one of the two. And, yeah,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: that part was pretty bad. That song.
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: It was like the second Rockula song. If you don't
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: count Rapula, because then there's three.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: No, Rapula is in a class of... It's its own category. Yeah,
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: above all the rest. Oh, man. Do we want to
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: address the individual songs? I mean... I can't even remember.
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: Other than, like, I'm not the DJ, I'm the vampire.
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: It's, again.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: That was awesome.
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: I mean, it's terrible, but by, like, that third or
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: fourth time, I'm like... With the exception of the weird
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: little voice that he keeps talking to, but I'm like,
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: some of the other stuff is so bad... That is
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: kind of hilarious.
- 1:18:30Speaker 10: I know.
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Life is so bad
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: that it's good.
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: The bat rockula guitar was pretty cool.
- 1:18:37Speaker 10: That's true.
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: The bat signal looking bat. That was pretty awesome. The
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: letters on the outfit, not so awesome. It just looked
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: bad when he tried. And he only did it like
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: one time. I'm like, is that worth sewing all those
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: letters on that outfit? That looked ridiculous.
- 1:18:50Speaker 12: Homemade.
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it did. Again, that was probably after they pulled
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: the budget out from under this movie. Oh, I don't know.
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: I mean, they.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Again, you have Bo Diddley in the background.
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: Not doing anything. Performing, but not playing the guitar.
- 1:19:06Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: It's so damn frustrating.
- 1:19:07Speaker 10: Mm-hmm.
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: I mean, most of them fall into that category of
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: just cheesy and for the sake of this movie. I mean,
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: half of them use rockula or vampire terms in the
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: middle of everything. So, I mean, you can't do anything.
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: There's one or two, like the cheesy one with the
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: two of them, the little romance song.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: Yeah, the music video.
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: That was probably the better. I mean, that was almost,
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: you could almost pull that out and use it as
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: like a cheesy romance song. It was like, if there
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: was one that was more acceptable as a song....
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: And her performance, the one where she's... I was not
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: big on her.
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: No, it wasn't.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: Her voice was terrible. Can I just say her voice
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: was terrible?
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: But it's funny how timely, like it really... And again,
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: it's almost very specific. Like as she was performing, I'm like...
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: I was trying to decide who they were tapping into.
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: I got a very Sheena Easton vibe.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: Exactly. I even said that out loud watching it.
- 1:19:59Speaker 4: I was like... I mean, there's a lot of ways
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: you could go further down the line. But like at
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: that point... I was getting a heavy sheen at this time.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: With the bars and the.
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: You know who I really loved in that movie? Her
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: little friend with the glasses.
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: I was going to bring her up. Oh, I fell
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: in love with her the second I saw her. She
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: was so cute. I was like, once again, back to the, like,
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: most of these kind of movies, it's like the main girl, like, eh,
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: she's all right. But her dorky friend, it was like
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: Last American Virgin. I was like, the dorky friend's always
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: kind of a little cooler in my mind.
- 1:20:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: And she was very dorky, except for the song that
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: she did.
- 1:20:34Speaker 4: Was scary. Yeah, it was pretty bad. I was happy
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: that they cut that off. She is, what, Nancy Ferguson?
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: Has she ever been in anything else? Ever?
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: Not that you could tell with the black hair and glasses.
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I'm sure that was so heavily different than
- 1:20:53Speaker 4: what she probably really looks like. She barely had any lines. Yeah,
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: she just sort of was there to be the sidekick
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: and play with all the equipment. She was the one
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: actually making all the music, so it seemed and The
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: Wizard of Speed and Time, which I assumed I was
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: the only one who's ever seen that. Yeah, I've never
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: seen that. Yeah, it's really bad. She was on Veronica's Closet.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: Wow, Veronica's Closet. That was the Kirstie Alley and Kathy
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: Najimy TV show.
- 1:21:21Speaker 10: Unfortunately.
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: Mystery Men. Again, she's a singer in Mystery Men. So
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: she didn't have a part in it. None of these
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: are big, yeah. I mean, even like Permanent Midnight's actually
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: a good movie, but she's Nurse. So, I mean, she's
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: always kind of a little side character.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: As soon as you said Mystery Men, I thought, well,
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: maybe she's in that segment where they introduce all the
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: homemade superheroes that are trying out. That's about my favorite
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: part of that movie.
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: The knockoff Janine Garofalo, because she was kind of tapping
- 1:21:48Speaker 4: into that, too. I was like, yeah, I was on
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: board for Janine.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: Mystery Man is a lot better movie than people get
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: credit for, by the way. I could laugh at that
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: movie watching it again right now.
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: I haven't ever seen it. Pee Wee Herman is... It's
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: got its moments. It just seems like it's... To me,
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: it was so uneven at the time. But yeah, well...
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: We'll go back into that some other time. And Hank Azaria.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: He is pretty funny, but he's always funny. Yeah, just
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: to watch it for those two is worth it. Ben
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: Stiller before he was Ben Stiller.
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: Anyway, back to this movie.
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: So, okay, let's talk about when we're in the middle
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: of that little dream sequence song. That's sort of the introduction,
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: and then they come back into play later.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: Hobo Kids.
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: Hobo Kids. Oh, the hobo kids. They were just dirty.
- 1:22:36Speaker 4: What the hell is going on with those hobo kids?
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: And then there were the backup singers.
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: I was so confused.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: The three creepy girls that, yeah. I'm like, where did
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: all these hobos all of a sudden come from?
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I don't know what the storyline in this
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: music video was because it made no damn sense. The
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: sad part is there is the, and you'll see them
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: in the credits, they're credited as the visiting kids. I
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: don't know that they were. And this is completely unconfirmed.
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: It was from some random thing I read on the website,
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: which even in that they said was unconfirmed. But it
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: was supposedly rumored that they were all Devo Kids. They
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: were all kids of some members of Devo. And I
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: don't know if then they were supposed to be a band.
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: I mean, they never really did anything. Well, that song
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: that she does is kind of... Which, again, tapping to
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: another 80s music reference that is thrown in the middle
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: of this. I mean, there's moments that have got little
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: Devo touches to it in this thing.
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that very possibly.
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: Could be.
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: But yeah, I thought that was the visiting kids. I
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: don't know, some weird kids group that never happened, never
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: quite materialized the way they wanted it to. But yeah,
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: those creepy hobo kids. I don't know what the hell
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: was going on there.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: And then the one hobo that they both came up to...
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: like next to the fire, you know, the 55-gallon drum
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: fire thing. And he just looked like he was pissed
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: off and like, get away from me.
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: He was probably a real hobo. It just showed up
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: with a camera. He was an extra.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: It was like, I can't believe I'm an extra in
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: this video. At the end of that video when Thomas
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: Doley's character is playing his new commercial, what gets her
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: so upset? I.
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: All of a sudden she made him turn it off
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: and got very upset and they left and he's asking her,
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: are you okay? Did you catch that? Yeah, I remember that.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: And she's like, this is about me and it's my
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: night and it's my video. And she just, she gets
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: very upset.
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: And you, they almost act as like she's hurt by
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: something and I didn't catch.
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: Again, that's part of this whole like, no story at all.
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: Like, it's missing these big chunks of, like, what was
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: up with that relationship, because none of it made any sense.
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: It's like, nothing between the two of them fit, really.
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: He could have been so much more out there as
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: a character.
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: It would have made more sense. Or just, yeah, given
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: him more to be, really. Because, I mean, he's just
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: sort of there. They ran out of time. Too much music.
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: I suppose so.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:25:17Speaker 10: Which, again.
- 1:25:18Speaker 4: why didn't he have more science? Thomas Dolby, for God's sake.
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: It's like, why didn't he do a couple of big numbers?
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: Or at least when he's just explaining his cryogenics, didn't
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: he say science? That would have been awesome.
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: And again, it seems like a very cheesy joke that
- 1:25:34Speaker 4: they would have done in this movie.
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: I kept expecting it. I was like, oh, they're going
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: to do it.
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: They're going to do it. They're going to do it. Yeah,
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: we don't get it.
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: Just like Bo Diddley never plays his guitar?
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: No, I mean, yeah. They missed so many opportunities here.
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: There are those moments that are, like, so odd that, again,
- 1:25:52Speaker 4: that's those, like, once we get into the scene with
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: Mom sort of gothy rapping or whatever the hell she's doing,
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: when we enter into Boom Boom... that your bald-headed guy
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: in a sequins sleeveless shirt and a kilt that guy
- 1:26:09Speaker 4: is like again that's one of those moments i'm like
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: okay this isn't by accident i mean the stuff going
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: on in this scene right now is very deliberate right
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: i don't know that it makes sense to anybody but
- 1:26:19Speaker 4: i mean it's all purposefully put there right and him
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: yeah just like that's just so weird and he is
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: yeah he's He was like a wrestler. He's the main guy.
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: He arm wrestles it over the top. That's right. That
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: guy turns up in a ton of stuff back.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: In the day.
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: But yeah, that was just such a weird scene.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: It's almost like somebody promised a bunch of people, I'll
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: put you in a movie. And you're like, fuck, what
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: do I do now? Well, will you wear a kilt
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: and a see-through shirt and then a frilly.
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: what do you call them uh what did he have
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: i can't even remember he had on one of those uh.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: An apron a frilly like chick's apron smoking a cigar
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: and then to in order to work in that he's
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: going to scratch the record he had to bump the
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: record player well you know and then while he's fixing
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: it he's scratching it but he's lifting the needle.
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: Doing it i mean It's the 80s. You had to
- 1:27:24Speaker 4: have some scratch in you. I thought he was like
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: a wrestler or something like that.
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: Oh, he was.
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: That was one of his many endeavors in this life. Well,
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: the other of random people. Oh, we got to get
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: you in a movie. Tony Cox. That's right. All of
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: a sudden, in the middle of a bathtub scene. Does
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: he ever age? I don't think so. But he looked
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: the old Ben. I was like, that was 88, but
- 1:27:45Speaker 4: he looks exactly the same as like in.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: Bad Santa.
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: Bad Santa, yeah. It's like he looks exactly the same.
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I forgot about him.
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: Yeah, he looks exactly the same age. I'm like, well,
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: he's not getting any older, but at the same time,
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: he started out like 40. Right. I'm not sure which
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: is worse. Oh, man. I don't know. I mean, there's
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: just those weird... surreal moments you get the dream sequences
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: you get like her on the plank walking the plank
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: on this pirate ship with stuffed animals filing off in
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: front of what what the hell is going on like
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: there's some weird moments that are just like Again, you
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: give them credit for being imaginative and bothering to put
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: together this whole elaborate dream sequence, but in the end,
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: it's like, I'm not sure that it's for anything other
- 1:28:29Speaker 4: than them being kind of weird.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: They could have skipped that dream sequence stuff and actually,
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: instead of telling you what happened in the 17th century
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: or whatever, show it to you yeah get a few
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: costumes show it happening they had a pirate ship they
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: had pirate costumes just do it and you wouldn't have
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: to spend five minutes explaining.
- 1:28:50Speaker 4: It in the bar Or take all that out and
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: instead invest that time into actual development of characters and
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: write a few scenes of dialogue so that things make
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: sense again. But, again, we're striving a little above and
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: beyond where they were going on this one.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: Why 22 years? And why, when he goes into the
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: math of it's been 400 years, which puts.
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: It at 14.5 times. I'm like, how can you do
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: this 14.5 times?
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: Half a girl. It doesn't... You know, even by your
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: own math, this shouldn't be happening now.
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: One of the times she was born quadriplegic. What? It's
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: half a girl.
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: But I mean, it was 88.
- 1:29:40Speaker 4: Just doing the math.
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: Is the math better?
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: I don't know. 88? I don't know. I don't know.
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: When did they say it started?
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: He said 400 years, and then he said 22... times
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: or every 22 years it happens which puts it at
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: exactly 14.5 times like don't don't put the. 5 in
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: there and then he goes this has happened to me
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: 14 or 15.
- 1:30:03Speaker 4: Times like.
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: Dude, if a girl died that you were in love with,
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: you'd know it was 15 times, not half of it.
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: Or, well, I mean, and you're wondering why the 22 years,
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: so she gets hot. Right. You don't want her to
- 1:30:18Speaker 4: not get, you know.
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: So she gets legal.
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: Yeah, you want her to be legal, you want her
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: to be hot, you don't want her to be old.
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: You know, you've got to hit right in the middle there.
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: So it conveniently, 22 years. 22, it was great age. Mm-hmm,
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: there you go.
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: I went bye to that a long time ago.
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: Whatever, old mate.
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know.
- 1:30:41Speaker 4: But I mean, there's times when it is, again, when
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: it hits moments where I'm like, somebody kind of did
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: something clever or knew what they were doing. The shot
- 1:30:51Speaker 4: when he's coming down the hallway to go on stage is...
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: is really well done and all talking to him yeah
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: it's and they were they returned to it at the
- 1:30:59Speaker 4: end there but that first shot is like it's really
- 1:31:02Speaker 4: well shot the way it's coming down the hallway it's
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: got all these people set up and coming into frame
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: and these weird characters and they're all just rattling off
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: their line and he keeps going and just the way
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: that that's put together is actually really well done and
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: again it's sometimes these things seem out of place in
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: this movie but Just like every once in a while,
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: I'll look at that moment where I'm like, see, that
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: was good. Like, if the whole movie had that much
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: time and care put into it, it's like, this really
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: could be that, you know, genius, crazy, you know, ridiculous,
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: you know, cult film that it never quite lives up to, really.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's almost, that scene of them going, reminds me of, like,
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: Spinal Tap or something like that.
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: The dude, can you move your gear? Yeah.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a, that was a good scene. And they
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: had a little callback to it later on, even.
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: With the Pointer Sisters or Envogue or whoever that was.
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: Envogue had one extra, especially at that point in time.
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: Eventually, they dropped one. Pointer Sisters would have been too old.
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: Pointer Sisters. But it was, I guess, a better reference.
- 1:32:04Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: They were the go-to trio of women at that point.
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: I guess.
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: And they're matching, but not matching outfits.
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:32:13Speaker 4: As long as they're sort of sparkly in the same way, then.
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: No, they all had the same print, but they were
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: different cuts.
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: Different cuts.
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: They all had the same. But they always, yeah, the
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: Poynter sisters used to do that.
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: I know that point is houndstooth, but my friend Andrew
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: has referred to it as joust for so long. I
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: don't know why it's like, I've got these pants that
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: have joust print on them. And I'm like, what is
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: joust print?
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: Do you ride ostriches when wearing this? Man, I can
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: play some joust. We all establish that. And you can
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: tell us about playing some joust from what I hear.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: But now every time I see a houndstooth pattern, I think, oh,
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: joust print.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: I'm going to forever refer.
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: To it as joust print. Wow. So, I don't know.
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: Is there anything else we haven't covered in this? We've
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: certainly gone to town on Rockula. I still enjoyed it.
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I liked it.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: There's just a lot of people that aren't going to
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: enjoy it. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: And again, if there's anything that carries it, I mean,
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: as he said, this is his first lead role. I mean,
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: Dean is so likable that, I mean, it's a shame
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: he never really found aside from Chainsaw, it's like he
- 1:33:24Speaker 4: never got a signature role that really carried him. You know,
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: it's like he ended up doing a couple of leads
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: and then getting a few more character roles. And then
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: as time went on, I think even he saw it, okay,
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: it's not going to work. And like he said, you know, he's,
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: he's retired more or less from acting at this point.
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: Cause he knows he missed that window. And it's like,
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: this was the era when he could have caught on
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: and could have been like the funny leading man of,
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: of that, you know, time period. And, To me, I
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: think he's charismatic enough. I mean, he's definitely funny enough.
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: It's like I don't know what it was missing because
- 1:33:57Speaker 4: I don't know. I mean, he is– I.
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: Think there were just too many others at the time.
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: Maybe so. But, I mean, he could have been like
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: the John Cusack and broke out and gone on and
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: gotten big roles. But he– I mean, because that's pretty
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: much around the same time, a little earlier. But, I mean,
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: he was doing that same kind of thing of like
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: his first few movies of him being a lead. he
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: was kind of silly and he's doing this kind of comedy.
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: And like, he broke out and became like a big
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: leading man.
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: So I think like there was just, there was already
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: a Michael J.
- 1:34:25Speaker 7: Fox.
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: There was already a John Cusack. You know, there was,
- 1:34:28Speaker 2: there were a lot of leading men at that time.
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: A lot of leading, funny, quirky teen movie guys going
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: on to more serious roles.
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: But yeah, he definitely has the ability and definitely had,
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: I mean, almost everything I've ever, well, everything I've ever
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: seen him in, even the, what's the, the.
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: Beach, Oh, Miracle Beach.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: Miracle Beach, even in that.
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: His least favorite movie.
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: Yeah, he's still.
- 1:34:54Speaker 4: He's funny. He's likable and funny.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: Everything else sucks about that movie.
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: Well, both of them mean she's likable and funny. Between
- 1:35:01Speaker 4: the two of them, you could have had a really
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: fun little romantic comedy, and instead that movie's kind of terrible,
- 1:35:07Speaker 4: but it's all the rest of the stuff that comes
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: into play. I mean, it just proves he can carry
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: a movie... It's just they never really gave him that movie.
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: I mean, his biggest moment is really Chainsaw. And he's
- 1:35:20Speaker 4: not even lead. I mean, he steals the show. But
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: one of the best parts of that movie. He's definitely, yeah,
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: one of the best parts of that movie. But, I mean,
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: he's not at all the main character in that. So,
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: I mean, he never really got that moment of just
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: carrying a movie.
- 1:35:35Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: Did he happen to.
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: Tell you what he does for a living nowadays? Someone's
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: kind of wondered that. Like, what do you... What do
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: people do after they're, like, kind of famous actors and
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: then they're not?
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: Well, I mean, now, as he says, he's playing guitar
- 1:35:47Speaker 4: and singing. I mean, he has a band.
- 1:35:49Speaker 10: I mean, he.
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: Well, that will make you, like, $ 20 a month, so.
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: Well, I mean, he has.
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: I'm sure he gets royalties.
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: He's also, yeah, he's written... Well, he's also written a
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: song that somebody else covered and he gets... I think
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: he's getting royalties from that now because they're... What is
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: that cheesy metal, like, super metal wannabe band that started
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: a couple years ago with giant hair that, like... What
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: the hell was that thing called? Darkness? Yeah, I think
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: it was. Oh, really? It was them or wasn't there
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: another one that was kind of a knockoff of them
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: that was even more ridiculous than Darkness? What was the
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: one with the giant hair? There was like a joke
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: version of it.
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: Darkness was kind of a joke.
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: Yeah, but he wasn't like, he was just, the singing
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: was the joke in that one.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: Like what era of metal.
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: Like, giant hair.
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:36:35Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: I don't know what you're talking about. They just were, like,
- 1:36:39Speaker 4: a couple of years ago. They had, like, a... And
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: they were all video-based, but... He's... I mean, he has
- 1:36:44Speaker 4: written songs that other people have covered. He's in that...
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: As he mentioned back when we talked to him months ago,
- 1:36:50Speaker 4: it's like he's in, like, almost like a... a live
- 1:36:54Speaker 4: karaoke band. Like you go, like they know like 500
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: songs or whatever, you know, number he said. And like
- 1:36:59Speaker 4: you go and pick from that. And instead of playing
- 1:37:02Speaker 4: to a cheesy background, you play to a live band
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: and sing to it. So he does that kind of stuff.
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: And it's just him having fun with his friends on
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: the weekend. He wrote, he may have written a lot
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: of stuff. He wrote a lot of the stuff in
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: this movie.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: And that's one of those things where you never know
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: what some guys bring it in for royalties.
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: And yeah, Yeah, and what catches on, and some of
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: that stuff could have led him to other things.
- 1:37:26Speaker 6: Who knows?
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: But yeah, I think now he does that kind of stuff,
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: and he did that really cool stage play idea. It
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: was almost performance art stage play, and then raising a kid. Obviously,
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: he did well enough with these projects in the 80s
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: and 90s that He doesn't have to worry too much.
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: He's doing more than I'm doing. He's doing more than
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: I'm doing, so I'm not going to knock him.
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: I always think about that. These people at conventions that
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: are just mainly doing the conventions, it's like, if that's
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: not enough money, what do they do? Do you think
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: they do data entry for a big company? What do
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: you do with your life after you're not an actor anymore?
- 1:38:06Speaker 4: I don't know. Some of those conventions, they... Some of
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: them ride that. You see it every time. You're like, hey.
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: He's not one of those because he rarely had done it.
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: I think that was actually one of the first ones
- 1:38:18Speaker 4: he had done ever, I think. But, yeah, some of
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: them really that becomes their job is just to go
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: around and be that person.
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: Well, I mean, of course, like Bill mosley and said
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: hey that's like that's their job.
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: Occasionally they make movies but for the most part their
- 1:38:33Speaker 4: money is made on the convention.
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: Circuit hotter and stuff like that that's what they do
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: of course because they're doing that constantly but you know
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: like other people i don't i don't mean like convention
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: circuit actors i just mean like.
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: Just people that were big.
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: Regular actors who were big and now they're not.
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: Some of them really do get, you know, regular jobs.
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: You see, I'm like, they're your real estate agent now.
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: You know, like I saw on this, like, where are
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: they now thing. That's why I love that Sean VH1,
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: where are they now? But, like, Charlie from Willy Wonka
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: and the Chocolate Factory, he's like a veterinarian.
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: Yeah. You know? Sometimes it was just a phase you
- 1:39:06Speaker 4: went through and you go get a job. Like Danica
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: Patrick became, like, a math teacher.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: Or not Danica. Danica. Danica. What the fuck is that
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: chick's name?
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: I think it's Danica. It's Danica, but Patrick's the gray sky.
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Danica McKellen.
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: Yeah, McKellen.
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: Something like that.
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: McKeller? McKellen?
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: We're sucking at being geeks right now.
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: Are you talking about Winnie? Yeah. Just call her Winnie.
- 1:39:27Speaker 4: That's all I've ever called her.
- 1:39:28Speaker 10: Winnie.
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: Winnie's a math nerd.
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: We know.
- 1:39:30Speaker 8: Yeah, I know.
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: I saw her book at the thrift store the other day.
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: I almost got it from Brian, but I didn't. I
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: didn't know if you'd really want it.
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: Hot chicks writing math books.
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: Yeah. Again, I don't know that I was as into
- 1:39:41Speaker 4: her back in the day. I think it's kind of
- 1:39:43Speaker 4: cooler now that she's a math nerd, actually. Which is like,
- 1:39:46Speaker 4: that's sort of awesome.
- 1:39:47Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:39:48Speaker 4: So yeah, you never know where it's going to go
- 1:39:49Speaker 4: once you get out of the quote-unquote big famous Hollywood scene.
- 1:39:55Speaker 4: Sometimes you just end up having a regular life and
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: probably enjoy that even more.
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: You know, speaking of her winning, I remember, I think
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: I watched The Wonder Years every night when I was
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: little because it came on Nick at night. And I
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: remember being bored but still liking it.
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: Well, it could be worse. Greg was scarred by it.
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: No, I became uncomfortable so many times where he would
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: be in a situation that.
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: You know, I was the same age as he was
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: when that was being shown on television.
- 1:40:28Speaker 4: And it just... I could.
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: internalize it too much and I would change the channel
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: because I would be like you can't this can't happen
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: this can't happen change the channel and like okay that's
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: done and then I'd go back and I'd get more
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: and I'd get more uncomfortable and so yeah I.
- 1:40:44Speaker 4: Was it's too close to home I.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: Was a loser I can't do it.
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: And you still like.
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: Winnie so yeah I don't know if I would like
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: her but it's definitely hot that she writes.
- 1:40:56Speaker 4: Math books so that was way cooler to find that
- 1:41:00Speaker 4: out over the years so All right. Anything else on Rockula?
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: Nope.
- 1:41:06Speaker 4: I think it'd be more fun in a group. Probably. Again,
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: I think you've just got to be the right person. Yeah.
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: You know, it's like, it's got to fall on your, where, yeah,
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: where you find things entertaining, what you're amused by. It's like,
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: it's definitely got moments that are funny, but it's not
- 1:41:25Speaker 4: going to hit everybody. Again, like we said, I mean,
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: comedy is pretty hit and miss. So it's like, This
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: even more than most is like, it also falls into
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: that weird cult movie thing where you get it or
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: you don't. And if you don't get this, you're just
- 1:41:37Speaker 4: going to think it's really stupid.
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: I don't see why it's not a cult movie. There
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: are so many bad cult movies. This one seems like,
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: you know, everything from like when he's walking down the
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: street in a rainstorm and he says, it's raining cats
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: and dogs. Oops, I just stepped in a poodle. That's
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: exactly what cult movies do. they key off on it.
- 1:41:58Speaker 4: That was so terrible.
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: And they say those lines as they watch it because
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: they know it's so bad.
- 1:42:04Speaker 4: It was really bad.
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: I mean, I like the opening, the, the cartoons.
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: That, that's what I was going to say.
- 1:42:10Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: I specifically wrote down, I was like, this is one
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: of the best opening sequences. And, and I like those cheesy,
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: I mean, they, the 80s was populated with those animated
- 1:42:19Speaker 4: opening sequences. And I always liked those anyway, but like,
- 1:42:22Speaker 4: this is like, again, cause I like horror more than
- 1:42:25Speaker 4: even the other stuff. It's like, The horror version of
- 1:42:28Speaker 4: those cheesy animated opening sequences. I mean, this, yeah, the
- 1:42:31Speaker 4: opening sequence is awesome.
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: That one really sets up the movie.
- 1:42:34Speaker 4: It does.
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: You're like, oh, this is going to be good.
- 1:42:37Speaker 4: Yeah, right into it, I was like, this is at least,
- 1:42:39Speaker 4: it sets the tone for what you're getting yourself into.
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: It kind of, you know, it almost should have been
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: as solid as the opening sequence, because the opening sequence
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: stays pretty damn fun the whole way through. But, yeah,
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: I mean, it's hit and miss. It's not as bad
- 1:42:54Speaker 4: as I went in expecting, but... It's certainly not for everyone. Yeah.
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: It's a name like broccoli, though.
- 1:43:01Speaker 4: I mean, really. How much do you expect? You should
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: have known going in.
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: Is it banana split.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: Time?
- 1:43:10Speaker 4: So as your dessert, did you come up with a tie-in.
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: For banana splits? No, no tie-in.
- 1:43:15Speaker 8: All right, well. Banana split time!
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: All right, then we will take a break, and we
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: will have our banana splits, and we'll come back and
- 1:43:21Speaker 4: wrap up the show.
- 1:43:22Speaker 10: Nice.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: Where you can.
- 1:43:25Speaker 15: Say that the night belongs to no.
- 1:43:39Speaker 8: One And you can pray that the night will soon
- 1:43:47Speaker 8: be over.
- 1:43:53Speaker 15: As the shadows fall And the daylight slips away To
- 1:43:57Speaker 15: the night, the night that lasts forever The night that
- 1:44:09Speaker 15: is your friend A friend of pain and.
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: Pleasure Hungry, but the ordinary things don't seem to appeal?
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: Then try one of our frozen delicacies. They're taste treats
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: that hit the spot, refreshing and cooling without being too filling,

- 1:44:49Speaker 1: If you're enjoying this podcast, perhaps you'd be interested in GleeCast.
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: You watch your tone, young lady.
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: Hey, we're not forcing you to download the internet's best,
- 1:44:57Speaker 4: or at least most booze-filled podcast about Glee.
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: You want to be me.
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: Who doesn't, Sue? But we know we can't be.
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: Instead, Erica and Emily.
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: Uh, Emily and Erica.
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: Who am I?
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: I just don't know anymore.
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: I'd love to stay in chat, but I got a
- 1:45:09Speaker 4: satellite interview.
- 1:45:11Speaker 5: Sorry, we get off topic a lot.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: The point is, listen to Glee Cast following every new
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: episode of Glee.
- 1:45:15Speaker 4: Plus our sporadic bonus content on some of the greatest
- 1:45:18Speaker 4: bad cinema that incorporates musical theater or sweet dance moves.
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: I'm going to ask you to smell your armpits.
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: The right or the left?
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: That's the smell of failure. Failure smells like dove?
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: Mine has a pleasant lady speed stick scent. Kind of
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: makes me think of candy canes.
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: Your resentment is delicious.
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: Visit gleecast.podomatic.com or search for us in the iTunes store.
- 1:45:37Speaker 4: That's Glee Cast with a K, part of the palaver.com family.
- 1:45:40Speaker 9: That's P-A-L-A-V-R dot com.
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: Boy, the only thing missing from this place is a
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: couple dozen bodies limed and rotting in shallow graves under
- 1:45:47Speaker 2: the floorboards.
- 1:45:48Speaker 4: We're working on that. You're listening.
- 1:45:54Speaker 15: Are you listening to Movie Meltdown?
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: I'm Amanda Burse.
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: I hope so. Love and marriage, love and marriage.
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: It's part of your problem, you know.
- 1:46:10Speaker 6: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 1:46:12Speaker 9: All of life's riddles.
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: Are answered in the movies.
- 1:46:16Speaker 3: And now, on with the show.
- 1:46:17Speaker 4: Chicken! Whoa, that was loud. What a weird guy. There
- 1:46:31Speaker 4: was this girl named Mina. She wanted my wiener.
- 1:46:34Speaker 13: She was singing back and forth, Ike and Tina.
- 1:46:36Speaker 4: I liked her bangs. She liked my fangs.
- 1:46:38Speaker 13: So we decided to do the Crazy Rapula thing. Now,
- 1:46:41Speaker 13: her father didn't like it, so he called me a pick.
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: I said, Dr.
- 1:46:45Speaker 13: Van, it helps to hear something you'll dig. We can
- 1:46:47Speaker 13: sing Kumbaya around the campfire.
- 1:46:49Speaker 11: Are you the DJ?
- 1:46:50Speaker 4: No, I'm the band.
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: No, what was the dude that she dropped her suitcase
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: in the street? And he took something.
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: Out of a suitcase?
- 1:47:22Speaker 4: What the hell was that? And who was that guy?
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: He sounded like Pee Wee Ruben. Well, but I looked
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: at him and I was like, that's not him. It's
- 1:47:29Speaker 4: not Paul Reubens even doing a character. It's some other
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: weird looking dude. And yeah, he stops. He delivers this
- 1:47:36Speaker 4: very cheesy line. And over the top version. I mean,
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: it's not even like the line is cheesy. His performance
- 1:47:43Speaker 4: is very character driven. It's like he came up with
- 1:47:47Speaker 4: this wacky character and he's going to get his one
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: line in, damn it. and then steals something and then
- 1:47:52Speaker 4: moves on.
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: Never mention it at all.
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: That's a lot of ice cream.
- 1:47:57Speaker 15: I don't think I'm going.
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: To be able to eat all this. But there's a
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: banana on it, so it's healthy.
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: Well, there's fruit.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: Look, there's pineapple and cherries and bananas and strawberries and pecans.
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: I went to the library this morning and got some
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: ice cream recipe books, but.
- 1:48:19Speaker 4: My best.
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: Ice creams are the custard-based ones, and this is just, like,
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: this is, like, so easy, I couldn't even believe it was, like,
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: gonna work. Because it was just, like, four cups of.
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: We're doing an ice cream podcast right now, and we're
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: talking about different brands.
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:48:38Speaker 4: Flavors. Well, you know what kind of ice cream I
- 1:48:40Speaker 4: always appreciated. Sad is that there's podcasts out there exactly
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: like this.
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: I'm sure it does.
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: While we eat ice cream, we're going to talk about
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: different ice creams. You ought to put it out as
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: a little extra episode.
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: The ice cream special.
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: Dude, we should just have that every week. Hi, welcome
- 1:49:00Speaker 4: to the ice cream social. This week we're having homemade
- 1:49:03Speaker 4: vanilla with bananas.
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: It would be more popular than doing Meltdown in one episode.
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: Bastards.
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: Back from our little ice cream social. That's what we
- 1:49:13Speaker 4: decided it was.
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: The ice cream podcast.
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: No, wait. I like that you came up with a
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: reason why the ice cream fit. Now go ahead and
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: explain how it ties into today's movie. Well, we had.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: Marlena brought everything from her refrigerator. There was pineapple and
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: peanut butter and... Cherries.
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: Cherries. Strawberry jam. Marshmallow fluff.
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: Chocolate syrup.
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: And I said, it's like they take everything good... And
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: just throw it in the pile and see what happens.
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: Make it, see if it's good. And that's Rock Hill.
- 1:49:43Speaker 4: That's Rock Hill. Except, I don't know if it ever
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: turned out quite. Bo Diddley with the spandex. Yeah, you
- 1:49:48Speaker 4: get odd things like that. If we really would have thrown,
- 1:49:50Speaker 4: you know, the, you know, snap peas and carrots in
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: that you would. He's like, what else did you bring
- 1:49:55Speaker 4: with you? God, if you really would have thrown everything
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: in your refrigerator, it would have been probably a little
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: closer to Dracula. Mushrooms, I'll do it. That was delicious.
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: You would have hit that one bite of like, what
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: is this, beets? What the fuck?
- 1:50:11Speaker 2: You know, you laugh, but for breakfast I drank this juice.
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: It was like called super juice or something.
- 1:50:17Speaker 10: Superfood?
- 1:50:18Speaker 2: Superfood. It was like green and it tasted really good,
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: but it had like wheat.
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: Germ and other spirits.
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: And stuff in it. And I was like, it's so ugly,
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: but it tastes so good.
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: I'm not sold on that. I've seen that, and I'm
- 1:50:31Speaker 4: just kind of creeped out by it. It looks like
- 1:50:33Speaker 4: hippie juice to me.
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: It is hippie juice, but someone goaded me into drinking it,
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: and it was delicious. It was better carrot juice.
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't bet either.
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: I mean, I figured go with the one that's probably
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: going to taste like fruit.
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: I guess. It was really good.
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: All right, well, we are back, and we've got feedback. Now,
- 1:50:55Speaker 4: we've actually got quite a bit, but of the weirder ones,
- 1:50:59Speaker 4: I was trying to wait until we had the whole,
- 1:51:01Speaker 4: you know, core group of geeks together, and that never
- 1:51:04Speaker 4: happens anymore. So there's still a couple of, like, epically ridiculous.
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: Are they from Randy?
- 1:51:12Speaker 4: No, none of this is from Randy, actually. Try to
- 1:51:16Speaker 4: control yourself. So, yeah, these are actually from many other people's.
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: The other ones, I just, yeah, I feel like they should, like,
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: be there for those. So I'm going to try to
- 1:51:28Speaker 4: hang on until whenever we can all get together. But,
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: you know, if you've sent one in, all but, okay,
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: there was one that got lost. But I'm even going
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: to try to describe that one later because I don't
- 1:51:37Speaker 4: know what the hell happened. But now there's a new
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: setup where they shouldn't. be getting lost anymore the thing
- 1:51:41Speaker 4: that the company should have been the way that I
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: should have been able to get to my messages for
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: the last year that I haven't been able to is
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: finally fixed now due to that one getting deleted so
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: yeah somewhere along the way we lost one but again
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: I heard it so I'm going to try to recreate
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: it somewhere down the line when we do the other
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: weird ones but this one we had one that I
- 1:52:01Speaker 4: did want to pass.
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: Along could you reenact it in an Isabella Rossellini.
- 1:52:06Speaker 4: Accent oh god I'll try to work on that between
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: now and then.
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: Will you dress up like a field mouse?
- 1:52:12Speaker 4: In the meantime, we'll just listen to Metal Mikey.
- 1:52:16Speaker 10: Howdy, Movie Meltdown crew. Long time, no talk, at least
- 1:52:20Speaker 10: for some of you. Because, you know, I was amongst
- 1:52:23Speaker 10: you in person in Indianapolis. And I still have my
- 1:52:28Speaker 10: much-treasured picture of Marlena and Misty on my cell phone.
- 1:52:33Speaker 10: This would happen to be Metal Mikey of the Action
- 1:52:36Speaker 10: Attraction Podcast. And finally, finally, I sat down and I said, no,
- 1:52:40Speaker 10: I've got to leave feedback to Movie Meltdown. I just
- 1:52:43Speaker 10: can't leave them in the dark any longer. So this
- 1:52:47Speaker 10: is sort of like for your kind of varied subject episode,
- 1:52:53Speaker 10: also known as the Pee-Wee's Big Adventure episode, I guess.
- 1:52:57Speaker 7: And.
- 1:52:57Speaker 10: You did say that the showing opened up with a
- 1:53:00Speaker 10: screening of Ernest Goes to Jail. I'm going to go
- 1:53:04Speaker 10: so far as to say, hands down, the best Ernest
- 1:53:06Speaker 10: movie out of the entire cycle is Ernest Saves Christmas.
- 1:53:10Speaker 10: To me, that one always holds a special, dear place
- 1:53:13Speaker 10: in my heart. And I'm not sure if it's any good.
- 1:53:17Speaker 10: I haven't seen it in a few years. But I
- 1:53:19Speaker 10: just get this impression that out of all the ones
- 1:53:22Speaker 10: that were released, that was probably my favorite. And I
- 1:53:26Speaker 10: must thank your show. Because it solved the mystery that
- 1:53:30Speaker 10: I wasn't quite getting the answers to, and now I
- 1:53:33Speaker 10: have the answers. Thank you for explaining to me what
- 1:53:36Speaker 10: dad jeans were all about. I never even knew up
- 1:53:39Speaker 10: to this point what exactly dad jeans were, except it's
- 1:53:42Speaker 10: a term that's being thrown around and bandied about. And
- 1:53:47Speaker 10: Pee Wee's Big Adventure, as for that movie itself, it
- 1:53:51Speaker 10: does have one of the greatest cinematic moments that an
- 1:53:54Speaker 10: 80s metalhead like myself could aspire to, which is one
- 1:53:57Speaker 10: of the most inspired cameos by Twisted Sister in a
- 1:54:01Speaker 10: motion picture ever. And the topic of Terminator as a
- 1:54:05Speaker 10: franchise was brought up, and the possibility of a Terminator 5.
- 1:54:08Speaker 4: Well, yeah.
- 1:54:09Speaker 10: Well, let's see first if that happens after Arnie's made
- 1:54:12Speaker 10: a few more love childs. Oh, or children. Oh, did
- 1:54:15Speaker 10: I say that? Whoops. Well, I did say that because
- 1:54:18Speaker 10: I fucked up the grammar completely, but oh well. As
- 1:54:22Speaker 10: for Terminator 3 as part of the franchise, well... Yeah,
- 1:54:26Speaker 10: you are right that it is basically a redo of
- 1:54:29Speaker 10: Part 2, but I didn't hate it. I strangely found
- 1:54:34Speaker 10: myself liking Part 3 more than I did Part 4
- 1:54:37Speaker 10: of the series. Not even Christian Bale could really save
- 1:54:41Speaker 10: it for me. But then again, I think that was
- 1:54:42Speaker 10: kind of when Christian Bale was sort of operating on
- 1:54:45Speaker 10: sleep mode, where it's just sort of like, well, I
- 1:54:47Speaker 10: did so great on Dark Knight, then I'm basically going
- 1:54:51Speaker 10: to act like Batman through every other acting role that
- 1:54:54Speaker 10: I get. And the topic of vibrating female chests was
- 1:54:58Speaker 10: brought up due to Marlena's magical bra storage capabilities.
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: You know what?
- 1:55:05Speaker 10: I think I probably have just as much luck with
- 1:55:07Speaker 10: vibrating female chests as I do just plain out stationary breasts,
- 1:55:12Speaker 10: which is to say I have zilch luck at all. But,
- 1:55:15Speaker 10: you know, that's what the Internet's made for, I guess.
- 1:55:18Speaker 10: As always, an enjoyable listen, you all. Take it easy.
- 1:55:23Speaker 10: And I, of course, look forward to talking to you again,
- 1:55:25Speaker 10: hopefully sooner rather than the long-ass time it took me
- 1:55:29Speaker 10: to actually send us. So take it easy, everybody. Talk
- 1:55:32Speaker 10: to you later.
- 1:55:32Speaker 2: Bye.
- 1:55:34Speaker 4: Oh, Mikey.
- 1:55:35Speaker 10: Nice.
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: See, I have this problem where people will bring up
- 1:55:39Speaker 2: things that I said or quote me, and I'm like,
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: what are you talking about?
- 1:55:43Speaker 4: Luckily, we all remember the crazy shit that you say,
- 1:55:46Speaker 4: so we're here to back up the other stories.
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: Greg had to just fill me in on, I'm like,
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: vibrating chest.
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: When was my chest vibrated?
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: Dirty.
- 1:55:52Speaker 4: And then you were like, oh, that day.
- 1:55:56Speaker 12: Oh, yeah.
- 1:55:57Speaker 4: Yeah, my chest vibrated. We were all there for that one.
- 1:56:00Speaker 4: I mean, yeah.
- 1:56:01Speaker 2: I mean, I don't keep my phone between my boobs
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: unless I'm at the gym. I mean, I just keep
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: it at the top of my bra so I'm running
- 1:56:07Speaker 2: my shoulders.
- 1:56:07Speaker 4: They don't call you Jiggles for nothing.
- 1:56:09Speaker 8: That's right.
- 1:56:10Speaker 4: Did you have your phone there, Jiggles? Maybe.
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I did have it right there. I
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: just keep it there.
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: Maybe you just saw that you were getting a phone
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: call coming in.
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: That's all.
- 1:56:22Speaker 4: Oh, wow. So, yeah, let's see what else. Oh, it
- 1:56:27Speaker 4: was funny that he mentioned his photo that you guys took.
- 1:56:30Speaker 4: And then did you see on Facebook he posted something
- 1:56:33Speaker 4: about the photo again? And then I was like, well,
- 1:56:36Speaker 4: he said because Misty's like half in it.
- 1:56:38Speaker 2: No, I'm half in it.
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: Or you're half in it.
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: So, yeah, I was like, well, next time we'll just
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: have to get there early and we'll make a little
- 1:56:43Speaker 4: run to the Sears Portrait Studio. I want to see
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: like us and Metal Mikey standing in front of like
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: a backdrop of a barn or a tree scenario or
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: some sort of crazy background.
- 1:56:55Speaker 2: I really love that, actually.
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: I just want those pictures like of myself. For fun. Actually,
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: I'm going to go home and I'm going to recreate
- 1:57:02Speaker 2: that with my tripod and some type of weird background.
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: I'm going to do that.
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: Let's do a group photo at Glamour Shots.
- 1:57:08Speaker 4: Yay! I get the feather boa.
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: I think that would be amazing.
- 1:57:14Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:57:14Speaker 2: We really have to do this.
- 1:57:16Speaker 4: Somebody start sending some funding for that because I'm sure
- 1:57:19Speaker 4: that's not going to be changed.
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: And the leather jacket that everyone has and they've got
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: the collar.
- 1:57:23Speaker 4: And it's popped. Pop the collar. Start the petition now
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: and include a big chunk of cash with every one
- 1:57:33Speaker 4: of them.
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: Speaking of photo things, glamour shots, things like that. So
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: yesterday I was with my best friend and I was
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: talking about Instagram, which is this really cool app on iPhone.
- 1:57:42Speaker 2: She has an Android and she's like, Instagram's not on here,
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: but there's this really similar program called Vignette. And I
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: was like, oh, okay. And I just didn't think much
- 1:57:55Speaker 2: about it. I'm like, that's a stupid name for something.
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: And then, you know, we were talking about it. We
- 1:57:59Speaker 2: were like comparing. I was like, what's it called again?
- 1:58:02Speaker 2: She's like Vignette. And I was like, how do you
- 1:58:04Speaker 2: spell that? She's like V-I-G-N-E-T-T-E. I said Vignette. And she's like.
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: I don't fucking know. I don't speak French.
- 1:58:16Speaker 4: She's special.
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: And then we were talking about the time my mom,
- 1:58:21Speaker 2: I was using her computer. She's like, there's something wrong
- 1:58:23Speaker 2: with my email. Whenever I open it up, it says
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: it's been compromised. And I was like, What? She's like,
- 1:58:29Speaker 2: my email's been compromised. And I was like, compromised?
- 1:58:33Speaker 4: She's like, whatever.
- 1:58:34Speaker 2: People get so defensive when you correct their hilarious... Whatever,
- 1:58:39Speaker 2: I don't speak English.
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: Whatever. I ain't got time for that bullshit. Just make
- 1:58:47Speaker 4: my email work.
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: I don't like this compound word shit.
- 1:58:52Speaker 4: I'm all like, no, that is dumb. Yeah.
- 1:58:56Speaker 10: Wow.
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: I'll promise.
- 1:58:58Speaker 2: I'll promise. Vignette.
- 1:59:01Speaker 4: Vignette.
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: I was like, I have to call it that on Facebook.
- 1:59:03Speaker 2: She said, no, you'll make me sound like an idiot.
- 1:59:06Speaker 4: Well, now we've passed that right along.
- 1:59:08Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:59:08Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:59:09Speaker 4: And I think.
- 1:59:10Speaker 2: She hasn't listened to the podcast, so she'll never know
- 1:59:13Speaker 2: that I'm totally Vignette.
- 1:59:13Speaker 4: Until we all start using it. And I think you
- 1:59:16Speaker 4: need to refer to it. It should be like a derogatory. Damn, Vignette. Vignette.
- 1:59:21Speaker 4: please everyone start using that you may very well get
- 1:59:24Speaker 4: your ass kicked in the process but don't tell them
- 1:59:27Speaker 4: i told you to say that damn big nets so
- 1:59:31Speaker 4: we could get in trouble for that one yeah more than.
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: Likely there's a shocker.
- 1:59:35Speaker 4: So my question to mikey is if you didn't know
- 1:59:37Speaker 4: what dad jeans were are you wearing them did you
- 1:59:41Speaker 4: accidentally end up in dad jeans and you're like Man.
- 1:59:45Speaker 4: I think so. Maybe that's why you're not getting that
- 1:59:47Speaker 4: stationary boob action. I don't know. Wait a minute. Maybe
- 1:59:53Speaker 4: I've figured out my problem.
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: Well, yeah.
- 1:59:55Speaker 4: He approaches women like, well, he's clearly a dad. I
- 1:59:58Speaker 4: don't want to be around him. I don't want to
- 1:59:59Speaker 4: hook up with dad.
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: I'm not going out with my dad.
- 2:00:04Speaker 10: All right.
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: I'm buying new jeans.
- 2:00:05Speaker 4: That's all there is to it.
- 2:00:08Speaker 2: I mean, do they have a pleat front?
- 2:00:11Speaker 4: Ooh, see, that's trouble.
- 2:00:11Speaker 2: Are they, like, lighter than, like, very light-washed in them?
- 2:00:17Speaker 4: I can't handle pleats.
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: I'm sorry. That's crossing a line for me.
- 2:00:20Speaker 2: You can probably Google it. It'll probably let you know.
- 2:00:23Speaker 1: Pleats and elastic waist.
- 2:00:26Speaker 4: Sends a belt. Oh, that would be awesome. Oh, yeah, so.
- 2:00:32Speaker 4: And I agree, Twisted Sister is awesome. Well, specifically that song.
- 2:00:35Speaker 4: It's funny that they didn't even work in their hits.
- 2:00:37Speaker 10: Right.
- 2:00:38Speaker 4: Because to me, that's possibly the best song on the album.
- 2:00:41Speaker 4: Burning Hill is awesome. So, yeah, it's just kind of
- 2:00:44Speaker 4: cool that they worked that random B-side into the movie.
- 2:00:48Speaker 4: Just for a moment.
- 2:00:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: It is pretty damn entertaining.
- 2:00:52Speaker 10: Great movie.
- 2:00:53Speaker 4: I wonder if Dee Snider hangs out.
- 2:00:54Speaker 1: With Paul Reumann.
- 2:00:57Speaker 4: It kind of seems like they would hang out.
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: Together in the real world.
- 2:01:01Speaker 4: They're both kind of weird. All right. So yes, thank you, Mikey. Uh, we,
- 2:01:06Speaker 4: we definitely appreciate it. Um, I know you've still got
- 2:01:09Speaker 4: the photo on your phone. My question is, do you
- 2:01:12Speaker 4: still have the frilly.
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: Hannah Montana bag?
- 2:01:14Speaker 4: Cause that, I was a little more taken with that
- 2:01:16Speaker 4: that day, but I hope you're carrying that around every day.
- 2:01:20Speaker 2: What was the Hannah Montana bag from?
- 2:01:22Speaker 4: He was just carrying it around during the convention. It
- 2:01:25Speaker 4: had a frilly handle and it had a big picture
- 2:01:27Speaker 4: of Hannah Montana and he was toting it around the
- 2:01:30Speaker 4: whole time. And, I was kind of taken with that. So,
- 2:01:32Speaker 4: you know, it's quite a look he had going on.
- 2:01:35Speaker 2: I mean, if you were accidentally wearing dad jeans and
- 2:01:43Speaker 2: carrying a Hannah Montana... Bag, people would just assume you
- 2:01:46Speaker 2: had a small daughter somewhere that you'd misplaced.
- 2:01:49Speaker 4: Right. You're a dad, but you're also kind of a
- 2:01:51Speaker 4: bad dad because you've lost your child.
- 2:01:55Speaker 1: Or a cool dad that he knows that, well, I've
- 2:01:57Speaker 1: got to be here with her at this, but I'm
- 2:01:58Speaker 1: going to leave her alone to be with her friends.
- 2:02:00Speaker 4: I'll let her go hang out with Bill Moseley.
- 2:02:03Speaker 1: That's fine. Any dad like that deserves some vibrating boo.
- 2:02:07Speaker 4: If you can hook that up.
- 2:02:08Speaker 2: I mean, in order to be a dad, you would
- 2:02:10Speaker 2: have had to gotten some vibrating boob in the first place.
- 2:02:13Speaker 4: Somewhere 20, 30 years ago. That didn't count. Once it's
- 2:02:20Speaker 4: that far gone, now it's at knee level, it doesn't
- 2:02:23Speaker 4: count anymore.
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: If it's for procreation purposes, it's not real.
- 2:02:29Speaker 4: Oh, that's just sad, really. All right, so, yep, that
- 2:02:33Speaker 4: pretty much wraps up. Again, we've got more coming, so
- 2:02:36Speaker 4: keep the weird and entertaining feedback coming in because, yeah,
- 2:02:41Speaker 4: we're working them in as we get around to it.
- 2:02:43Speaker 4: So thank you very much, Metal Mike. Thank you. Okay, kids,
- 2:02:47Speaker 4: get out your decoder pins.
- 2:02:49Speaker 2: Dun-dun-dun.
- 2:02:52Speaker 4: It is time for the Movie Outdown Secret Circle reveal
- 2:02:54Speaker 4: of an upcoming exciting feature. Hell, we don't even know
- 2:02:57Speaker 4: what we're doing.
- 2:02:57Speaker 2: For you members of the Secret Circle.
- 2:02:59Speaker 4: I believe next week we're going to attempt to put together,
- 2:03:03Speaker 4: and this has actually been kind of popular lately. I
- 2:03:06Speaker 4: got a specific request or at least an excitement over
- 2:03:11Speaker 4: every time they turn it on and they hear it's
- 2:03:13Speaker 4: a caffeinated movie geek episode. Yeah. So I think we're
- 2:03:16Speaker 4: going to try to put together another caffeinated movie geek episode.
- 2:03:19Speaker 4: It's the Fred Factor. Yeah, everybody kind of loves the
- 2:03:22Speaker 4: Fred Factor.
- 2:03:22Speaker 10: I love Fred.
- 2:03:23Speaker 4: You can't go wrong with that.
- 2:03:25Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, that reminds me. I also, this is like
- 2:03:27Speaker 2: way past it, but I also happened to accidentally watch
- 2:03:31Speaker 2: this Robert Mitchum movie last week. I don't know how
- 2:03:34Speaker 2: I forgot that, but yeah.
- 2:03:36Speaker 10: Mitchum.
- 2:03:36Speaker 4: Which one was it?
- 2:03:37Speaker 2: It was about Ireland.
- 2:03:37Speaker 4: Ireland. The Quiet Mitchum? Yeah.
- 2:03:45Speaker 1: That would be a ruined actor.
- 2:03:49Speaker 4: No, I said Mitchum.
- 2:03:50Speaker 2: No.
- 2:03:52Speaker 4: I was combining. Was Catherine O'Hara in that?
- 2:03:54Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 2:03:57Speaker 2: It was called Ryan's Daughter, I think. Hmm. It was
- 2:04:01Speaker 2: Ryan Mitchum.
- 2:04:02Speaker 4: All right. If you say so.
- 2:04:05Speaker 2: It was very long and very boring. It's probably why
- 2:04:08Speaker 2: I forgot to mention it.
- 2:04:10Speaker 4: You are selling us on it?
- 2:04:11Speaker 2: It was like about, like it was filmed in Doolin,
- 2:04:13Speaker 2: so it was really beautiful.
- 2:04:16Speaker 4: Okay, anything else to pass along this week?
- 2:04:19Speaker 2: Nope.
- 2:04:20Speaker 4: All right. Is there one favorite? I'm trying to decide.
- 2:04:25Speaker 4: Do we go out with the big finale song of Dracula?
- 2:04:29Speaker 4: I mean, it is the triumphant song. I don't know
- 2:04:32Speaker 4: if that's how we should.
- 2:04:34Speaker 1: Are we going to listen to Rapula during the episode?
- 2:04:36Speaker 4: I mean, we'll definitely, obviously, we've gotten Rapula in already. Okay.
- 2:04:40Speaker 4: But what do we, yeah, I mean, do we want
- 2:04:43Speaker 4: to go out on the big finale? Because as we
- 2:04:46Speaker 4: were saying, I told you we'd get it back around.
- 2:04:48Speaker 4: That's exactly what I thought of as I watched this.
- 2:04:50Speaker 4: I was like, you know, you kind of got to like.
- 2:04:52Speaker 4: Or possibly hate, depending on your personality. But I was like,
- 2:04:55Speaker 4: you gotta like that when the credits, the final credits
- 2:04:59Speaker 4: kick in and it's in the middle of the musical number,
- 2:05:01Speaker 4: which is actually being played by your character. And it
- 2:05:05Speaker 4: is some sort of crazy, well, this one was sort
- 2:05:07Speaker 4: of a crazy dream sequence. It didn't make any sense.
- 2:05:09Speaker 4: But I mean, the whole rest of the time they
- 2:05:11Speaker 4: had a band, they were at a club, it all
- 2:05:13Speaker 4: sort of made sense in a way. But I was like,
- 2:05:15Speaker 4: there was that era. The 80s was definitely that where
- 2:05:18Speaker 4: you had like, you know, Howard the Duck rap stuff
- 2:05:21Speaker 4: like that. But even like Purple Rain rap stuff like that.
- 2:05:24Speaker 4: It's like there's so many of them. And it's like,
- 2:05:25Speaker 4: all right, here come the credits. And you just finish
- 2:05:28Speaker 4: it out with a whole big song. So it doesn't
- 2:05:31Speaker 4: need to be the thing.
- 2:05:32Speaker 1: If that's how we have to finish it, that works.
- 2:05:34Speaker 4: In honor of, you know, the 80s and or slash 1990,
- 2:05:38Speaker 4: how do you round it out this kind of a
- 2:05:40Speaker 4: movie and or episode? I guess that's how we should go.
- 2:05:43Speaker 4: Dean Canlan playing... Nicholas Cage playing Elvis with the Pointer
- 2:05:49Speaker 4: Sisters backing him up. Picture that in your mind as
- 2:05:54Speaker 4: we play it out. Otherwise, that about does it. We
- 2:05:57Speaker 4: will return next week. Same geek time, same geek feed.
- 2:06:00Speaker 4: Thanks for listening. Well, there's a party in my pants
- 2:06:54Speaker 4: Would you like to take a gander? And there's a
- 2:06:58Speaker 4: rocket in my pocket Like a handsome commander If a
- 2:07:00Speaker 4: diamond rings.
- 2:07:03Speaker 1: Is it something that you'd like?
- 2:07:04Speaker 10: Well, don't worry, babe Because the key's.
- 2:07:10Speaker 2: Back I got a love in my tummy There's something
- 2:07:17Speaker 2: cool around.
- 2:07:21Speaker 4: Rockin' them down to the bogey sound, baby.
- 2:07:23Speaker 1: My name is Rockula, and I'm a ticket cool prisoner.
- 2:07:33Speaker 8: Later today, I.
- 2:07:34Speaker 4: Got nothing to do.
- 2:07:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna buy me a.
- 2:07:39Speaker 4: Car, maybe I'll buy you one too, baby.
- 2:07:43Speaker 1: If you need money, baby, I got a stack.
- 2:07:48Speaker 7: I just tell all your friends that the key's back.
- 2:07:55Speaker 7: I got love, I got money, there's just enough to
- 2:07:57Speaker 7: throw around the hall.
- 2:08:01Speaker 4: You down to the boat in the sound. My name
- 2:08:08Speaker 4: is Rockilla. I'm going to play my thing right now.
- 2:08:34Speaker 4: I was like a.
- 2:08:35Speaker 1: Sing-along kid, just for me.
- 2:08:39Speaker 2: Say, yadda yadda do.
- 2:08:41Speaker 4: Say, I was Uncle Barry a lot. Say, kiki kiki kai.
- 2:08:48Speaker 8: Say, a girl like us like a dog.
- 2:08:51Speaker 15: .
- 2:08:59Speaker 3: .
- 2:09:11Speaker 4: .
- 2:09:16Speaker 7: .
- 2:09:17Speaker 4: .
- 2:09:20Speaker 8: .
- 2:09:22Speaker 4: .
- 2:09:32Speaker 8: .
- 2:09:39Speaker 4: How'd you like.
- 2:09:51Speaker 9: That, baby?
- 2:09:57Speaker 12: Typical.
- 2:09:57Speaker 4: What's typical?
- 2:09:59Speaker 7: That the damsel's in distress and you're caught sleeping at
- 2:10:01Speaker 7: the gate behind the eight ball a day late and
- 2:10:03Speaker 7: a dime short.
