- 0:22Speaker 1: guest join us. Check him out at Ringer. Check him
- 0:25Speaker 1: out at the athletic Jason Goff. Chicago's on. What's going on,
- 0:29Speaker 1: big dog?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Oh, man. Feeling good. Feeling good. How you doing, man?
- 0:32Speaker 2: Everything decent your way? I know you're on the trip
- 0:36Speaker 2: every time I talk to you, so I want to
- 0:38Speaker 2: make sure.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I've been local for a little while, but I'm scheming
- 0:41Speaker 1: on another one, man.
- 0:42Speaker 3: I'm going to holler at you.
- 0:42Speaker 1: You just had a small child, so you can't make the.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Run, man. But I got one.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I got one I'm trying to figure out how to make,
- 0:48Speaker 1: but all y'all people with, like, responsible lifestyles, y'all, you know,
- 0:52Speaker 1: I mean, I'll go.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I mean, if I must do it myself, I must
- 0:55Speaker 3: do it myself.
- 0:57Speaker 2: See, I don't go a lot of places for vacation,
- 1:00Speaker 2: and I don't ask or I don't, you know, confer
- 1:04Speaker 2: with my significant other in that way. And then... I'll
- 1:06Speaker 2: just bring something up and she'll be like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, go. Right?
- 1:09Speaker 2: So it doesn't occur to me to be like, oh, yeah,
- 1:12Speaker 2: I'm going every time people go on because that's not
- 1:14Speaker 2: the case. But I also don't check in as much
- 1:17Speaker 2: as I should. I'll probably be able to swing something.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Let me know.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I like nature. I'm into the nature joints now. So, like,
- 1:23Speaker 3: that's the thing.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I ain't got to be like, hey, man, you know.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You might want to bring some boots. You know what
- 1:28Speaker 1: I'm saying?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Well, I'm in the Arctic right now, brother. So I
- 1:31Speaker 2: got everything that I might need. I got the expedition coats.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Let me know. Let me know.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I will holler at you.
- 1:38Speaker 1: But in the meantime, we got a lot of stuff
- 1:41Speaker 1: that we're going to get to. I feel like people
- 1:45Speaker 1: are still hot on this Jerome Moore story. Did I
- 1:48Speaker 1: see a picture of the internet of him walking around
- 1:51Speaker 1: with the wife and the kids? Like, He got really
- 1:55Speaker 1: famous really fast and not for coaching Michigan.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I don't know what is to be expected going forward.
- 2:03Speaker 3: By the way, did I call him Sherron Moore in
- 2:05Speaker 3: my head? I felt like I said Sherron.
- 2:06Speaker 2: You did. No, I know. Yeah, I know the Brown. Listen,
- 2:09Speaker 2: I was doing Sherron Wright for McClellan Center for like
- 2:14Speaker 2: a good two weeks. Not a week, but like two weeks. Yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 2: about 10 days.
- 2:18Speaker 3: We just had that A. now, man. I saw the
- 2:20Speaker 3: people in the comments that's like, yo, you like my granddaddy.
- 2:23Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 2:23Speaker 1: That happens well before granddaddy, right? I'm just your pops.
- 2:28Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 2:29Speaker 1: But yes, every now and then it's going to happen,
- 2:31Speaker 1: but you know who I'm talking about.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Exactly. So don't be a jerk. You feel me? Don't
- 2:36Speaker 2: point it out in that way. Like I was saying,
- 2:38Speaker 2: I don't know what to expect because at every turn,
- 2:42Speaker 2: I didn't expect what was happening. At first, I was like,
- 2:45Speaker 2: this is just one. Because this is the thing. I
- 2:47Speaker 2: hadn't gotten got by a parody account in damn near
- 2:52Speaker 2: a decade. And I don't repost and do all that
- 2:55Speaker 2: stuff as much as back in the day because there's
- 2:57Speaker 2: so much less trustworthy information out there. I sent it
- 3:01Speaker 2: to the group chat and you were like, yo, I
- 3:03Speaker 2: was like, thank God, because I haven't had that experience
- 3:07Speaker 2: in so long. Every turn, I was like, this ain't real.
- 3:10Speaker 2: And then that would be real. And then I'm like,
- 3:11Speaker 2: this can't be real. And then that's not real. And
- 3:13Speaker 2: then the next thing is real. I don't know what
- 3:15Speaker 2: to expect from going forward, to be honest with you.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I have never seen people fall for it more than
- 3:21Speaker 1: they were on this story. And I'm not really saying
- 3:24Speaker 1: this as a judgment, right?
- 3:25Speaker 3: Because the thing when, as they call it in Espanol,
- 3:31Speaker 3: in equis, see?
- 3:32Speaker 1: When Ekis changed the blue check to mean nothing, it
- 3:39Speaker 1: got real tough. But people's brains still take the blue
- 3:42Speaker 1: check as meaning something.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I actually read the bio and got got.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not saying the bios are just enough.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And the other part is we are at the age
- 3:51Speaker 1: now where it's new generations coming into game and it's
- 3:55Speaker 1: people that we don't necessarily know.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 3:58Speaker 3: You know, so you got to look a little closer.
- 4:00Speaker 1: But now it was wild stories coming with Sharon Moore
- 4:03Speaker 1: on them. And now people was people was just getting
- 4:06Speaker 1: got left and right.
- 4:08Speaker 3: So many people were sitting. It's like, again, friends of
- 4:11Speaker 3: this program.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:13Speaker 1: We're sending me different bogus joints about him. And the
- 4:17Speaker 1: problem was, while the things that were being alleged were crazy,
- 4:21Speaker 1: the actual story seemed like something from a parody.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Account, too.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's what it was. I mean, to have
- 4:30Speaker 2: that job at that age and to screw it up
- 4:34Speaker 2: the way somebody at a D3 school would be the
- 4:38Speaker 2: town idiot for, right? Like somebody at some college in
- 4:44Speaker 2: upper Wisconsin, if you're walking around campus with this on
- 4:48Speaker 2: your jacket, oh yeah, we laughing at you for the
- 4:50Speaker 2: next decade plus. We actually gonna make rules because of you.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Now the issue is, hey man, You ain't got no
- 4:57Speaker 2: buddies in the coaching fraternity game? Like, at some point,
- 5:01Speaker 2: you talk about game being handed down. At some point,
- 5:04Speaker 2: game gets handed down. And I'm going to be real
- 5:07Speaker 2: with you. There is nobody who I think is more
- 5:10Speaker 2: about football to not follow the blueprint on if you're
- 5:13Speaker 2: going to act like this. It's Jim Harbaugh, gang. He
- 5:17Speaker 2: didn't have somebody who was in front of him who
- 5:19Speaker 2: was probably wilding out like that. Jim is football, glasses
- 5:23Speaker 2: of milk, and family, and that's it. So you didn't
- 5:26Speaker 2: even have a player above you that you could be like, okay,
- 5:29Speaker 2: this is how you play it, right?
- 5:31Speaker 3: That is real talk.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Yeah, you see assistants who learn from their coaches.
- 5:36Speaker 3: You asked Jim Harbaugh for some advice on that. Jim
- 5:38Speaker 3: Harbaugh's advice is.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Have you thought about being faithful to your wife?
- 5:44Speaker 3: Focus, motherfucker.
- 5:48Speaker 2: And also, before your wife, football might be more important, too.
- 5:53Speaker 2: So don't mess up the foot. That's what I always.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Hold on.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 5:59Speaker 3: OK. I was about to say I did the math wrong. Well, no, no, no.
- 6:04Speaker 3: He served on Charlie Strong's staff.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Come on.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Could have got some game from that one.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Although he wound up in a very precarious situation that
- 6:15Speaker 1: implied that his pimping wasn't nearly as tight as it
- 6:19Speaker 1: needed to be either.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Well, we've been around a lot of people in this
- 6:23Speaker 2: industry and in this profession. And whether it be athletes
- 6:26Speaker 2: or coaches, let's face it, man. Like, a lot of people...
- 6:32Speaker 2: get that kind of attention because of what they are.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:37Speaker 2: We know people who got to get it out the
- 6:39Speaker 2: mud because of who they are and how they present
- 6:42Speaker 2: themselves and how many situations they can see from afar
- 6:45Speaker 2: and what kind of instincts that you have honed over
- 6:47Speaker 2: the years of, you know, parking lot pimping or understanding
- 6:51Speaker 2: that this ain't how this goes or, you know what,
- 6:54Speaker 2: I didn't become more handsome. You know, that kind of vibe. Like,
- 6:57Speaker 2: you know the dudes who you, like, all right, cool.
- 7:01Speaker 2: You're going to get caught up by somebody who is
- 7:04Speaker 2: not going to be wearing clear heels because they met you.
- 7:07Speaker 2: And you know the cats who can stand clear of it. Like,
- 7:09Speaker 2: I know too many that succumb to this kind of
- 7:14Speaker 2: behavior and then are really sloppy about it. And then
- 7:17Speaker 2: on top of it, you know, breaking in like that.
- 7:19Speaker 2: It's just nasty.
- 7:21Speaker 3: But hold on.
- 7:21Speaker 1: So before we get to the break-in part, and I'm
- 7:23Speaker 1: saying again, I think he's going to, I think he's
- 7:26Speaker 1: going to spend some time at the Michigan State Hotel, right?
- 7:30Speaker 3: Like, we'll get to that.
- 7:32Speaker 1: But before that, he didn't get caught up like he
- 7:35Speaker 1: got extorted, right? Like, he did not, like, kind of
- 7:39Speaker 1: the ways we describe him, that's not the way that
- 7:41Speaker 1: he got caught up.
- 7:43Speaker 3: He got caught up.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Misunderstanding that, like, they're going to fire you as soon
- 7:49Speaker 1: as they can.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Like, I think that is the thing. I think that
- 7:52Speaker 3: we have.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Reached a different point with black coaching by and large,
- 7:57Speaker 1: where A, like, he can get the job, okay? But
- 8:00Speaker 1: across the board, not just for black people, patience is
- 8:03Speaker 1: thinner than it has ever been, right? In this NIL
- 8:06Speaker 1: era and all of this stuff, I mean, we see
- 8:08Speaker 1: cats get fired in the middle of September.
- 8:10Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Like, the patience is thinner for everybody, which means the
- 8:14Speaker 1: patience is really thin for you, okay?
- 8:19Speaker 2: And so.
- 8:20Speaker 3: His thing is, you know, Adam Schefter. This was wild.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But Adam Schefter got on TV immediately after it happened.
- 8:26Speaker 1: It was like Jerome Moore saying that the people were
- 8:28Speaker 1: out to get him and it made it seem like
- 8:30Speaker 1: he was paranoid. And then we saw the report that
- 8:33Speaker 1: said that for whatever reason, that woman just decided to
- 8:35Speaker 1: call up and let him know she had, in fact,
- 8:37Speaker 1: been having an affair with him. Um, that sounds like
- 8:42Speaker 1: I would think that they were trying to get me
- 8:45Speaker 1: under those same exact circumstances.
- 8:47Speaker 3: And what you can't do is make it easy for them.
- 8:50Speaker 2: How many black coaches from the times that we were
- 8:53Speaker 2: kids had a variance in what kind of personality type
- 8:56Speaker 2: they could be. Right. Like as a kid, I knew
- 9:00Speaker 2: that Art Shell was the black head coach in the NFL.
- 9:04Speaker 2: And that's how you had to go about things, right?
- 9:06Speaker 2: Even here in Chicago, Lovey Smith, a certain temperament, a
- 9:09Speaker 2: certain demeanor. So that's why when Herman Edwards is out.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Here screaming at white folks. He's the only one with jokes.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yeah, screaming at white folks in press conferences and having
- 9:17Speaker 2: a sense of humor and doing all these things. Like,
- 9:19Speaker 2: there's always had to be this understated, very serious, I'm
- 9:23Speaker 2: only about football. Like, there can't be no Black Lane Kiffin, right?
- 9:27Speaker 3: Hold up, even in basketball. Which one of them got jokes, right?
- 9:33Speaker 1: Because, like, you had, like, the Nola Richardson, John Thompson archetype, right?
- 9:39Speaker 1: And that was a fairly intense brother, right? Like, you know,
- 9:42Speaker 1: like Nola Richardson.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Scared the white folks kind of brother. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Which, by the way, is a precarious, like, role to
- 9:49Speaker 3: try to take.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Because it does look like Nola got a sense of
- 9:51Speaker 1: humor on his own time, but not at work.
- 9:54Speaker 3: That was, no, I can't get any white folks an itch.
- 9:57Speaker 2: No, sir. And what you have to do if you're
- 10:00Speaker 2: going to scare the white folks and talk to them
- 10:01Speaker 2: crazy is be fucking great. Right? You can't be no
- 10:07Speaker 2: regular cat.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Yeah, but this raises an interesting question I hadn't thought
- 10:10Speaker 1: about because we're saying that, like, you had to have
- 10:13Speaker 1: that personality to be the black coach. Isn't that you
- 10:15Speaker 1: had to have that personality to be the black coach
- 10:18Speaker 1: or that being the black coach will get you that personality?
- 10:22Speaker 1: You will be perpetually on guard and stern because you
- 10:25Speaker 1: cannot show them weakness. First time you tell a joke,
- 10:28Speaker 1: now they're going to have you out here dance.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Right? You know, like, perhaps it's that.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Or you just got to be Mike Tomlin and get
- 10:37Speaker 2: hired by a place, you know, on your own merit, obviously,
- 10:39Speaker 2: but hired by a place that you'll be at for
- 10:41Speaker 2: 20 years.
- 10:42Speaker 1: But he's the same personality as these other guys that
- 10:46Speaker 1: we've been discussing. He was like that when he was 33,
- 10:47Speaker 1: however it was when he got the job. Now, old
- 10:50Speaker 1: boy Fran Brown up there at Syracuse, he the first
- 10:54Speaker 1: full-on black weirdo. that I think that we've ever been
- 10:56Speaker 1: allowed to have. Deion Sanders obviously is of a whole
- 11:01Speaker 1: different world. But Fran Brown, the one that say that
- 11:05Speaker 1: he don't shower after losses because only winners get to wash.
- 11:08Speaker 1: And we figured out that his woman was black when
- 11:09Speaker 1: he was like, my wife say I can't come home
- 11:11Speaker 1: after that.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a certain intensity with Fran that is, entertaining,
- 11:18Speaker 2: but like, like 6% scary for me, where it's like, if,
- 11:21Speaker 2: if it's time to hang out with friend, I hope
- 11:24Speaker 2: he's like, Hey, he's not intense enough to hang out
- 11:26Speaker 2: with me. And it makes it easy for me to
- 11:28Speaker 2: go the other way. Like, yeah, there's never been a,
- 11:30Speaker 2: there's never really been a, you know, a Rex or
- 11:33Speaker 2: buddy Ryan type of black fella that was allowed to
- 11:37Speaker 2: run one of these franchises, not to mention in college football,
- 11:40Speaker 2: where the town is, it is wrapped around that football team, right?
- 11:47Speaker 2: Like Ann Arbor is the university of Michigan and vice versa.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Like Marcus Freeman right now in Notre Dame, you sitting
- 11:54Speaker 2: there like, Hey man, he smiling. He looked good on camera. Got,
- 11:59Speaker 2: got enough wins out here. He using the Beijing in
- 12:02Speaker 2: a way where, you know, the white folk can't pick
- 12:04Speaker 2: up on it. Like there's, there's a certain, certain archetype
- 12:07Speaker 2: of brother that you must be to go forward. And, uh, Yeah,
- 12:11Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to the days where the Black Lane
- 12:13Speaker 2: Kiffin can can be hired.
- 12:14Speaker 3: I ain't gonna lie, though.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I kind of can't believe that Marcus Freeman has gotten
- 12:19Speaker 1: as far as he has.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Why is that?
- 12:24Speaker 1: OK, so you remember just how polarizing Cam Newton was?
- 12:29Speaker 3: Auburn Cam Newton, right?
- 12:32Speaker 1: And, you know, there's a number of different reasons why
- 12:35Speaker 1: this might why that may have been the case. But
- 12:37Speaker 1: ESPN did a 30 for 30, which really was more
- 12:40Speaker 1: of a like 2020. But it was a 30 for
- 12:43Speaker 1: 30 about the Auburn-Alabama rivalry. And they had a couple
- 12:48Speaker 1: in there that was a man who was an Alabama
- 12:51Speaker 1: fan and a woman who was an Auburn fan. And
- 12:56Speaker 1: this was made, I want to say like 2012, 2013, whatever, right?
- 12:59Speaker 1: So the Cam Newton situation is still fresh. and they
- 13:04Speaker 1: got them two sitting on the couch, the married couple,
- 13:06Speaker 1: and they looking at something on the screen, and Cam
- 13:08Speaker 1: Newton came on that screen, and I looked at the
- 13:10Speaker 1: way that she jumped up, and she started clapping her hands,
- 13:13Speaker 1: and I looked.
- 13:13Speaker 3: At that man, and I was like, oh, levels.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Levels are at play here and I'm just saying that
- 13:25Speaker 1: if it was a documentary about the Notre Dame USC
- 13:29Speaker 1: rivalry and she was the Notre Dame woman and he
- 13:32Speaker 1: was the USC dude and Marcus Freeman jumped up on
- 13:35Speaker 1: the screen she would pop up clapping her hands the
- 13:38Speaker 1: exact same way and that white man would be over
- 13:40Speaker 1: there looking at it the exact, the exact same level
- 13:44Speaker 1: of salt.
- 13:45Speaker 3: You understand what I'm saying? And so, and so I'm
- 13:48Speaker 3: a little surprised that, that they are.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Like I'm surprised that they is okay with it. I
- 13:56Speaker 1: also want to throw something else out there. I've been
- 13:59Speaker 1: seeing people talking about Marcus Freeman and his Beijing. And
- 14:02Speaker 1: for those of you who don't know, that man puts
- 14:04Speaker 1: so much shoe polish in his hairline. Like it's like, he's,
- 14:09Speaker 1: his shit like a weave in the sense that you
- 14:11Speaker 1: have to acknowledge that he's not trying to fool anybody.
- 14:14Speaker 3: You understand what I'm saying?
- 14:16Speaker 1: Like this is, he just, he just, he wants to
- 14:19Speaker 1: wear hair and in order for him to wear hair,
- 14:22Speaker 1: he has to do the cheating on the front end.
- 14:25Speaker 1: And people are making the argument that why don't he
- 14:27Speaker 1: just come on home? Like me and you, we live in,
- 14:29Speaker 1: we live in several lives.
- 14:30Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 14:31Speaker 1: I was about to say, you know, you, uh, your
- 14:33Speaker 1: hat is like a shark's fin right now. Like they realize,
- 14:36Speaker 1: you know, you, you, No, I'm not hat fishing.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Don't do that to me. No, no, no.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I didn't think you hat fishing. But LL Cool J,
- 14:43Speaker 1: you just LL Cool J-ing right now, right? Like you
- 14:45Speaker 1: got your hat. This is what it is, right? But
- 14:48Speaker 1: you and I are both fortunate enough that we possess
- 14:51Speaker 1: the proper symmetry, shape, volumetrics, however you want to put it,
- 14:55Speaker 1: to allow us to do this. Let me tell you something, man.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Marcus Freeman, like LeBron, he don't have a head that
- 15:01Speaker 1: work for this. Like that's why he's had to go
- 15:03Speaker 1: through all the things he's had Because going bald is just,
- 15:06Speaker 1: it's not the same play for everybody. You got this
- 15:09Speaker 1: motherfucker looking like Soda Pop Penske. Or your shit look
- 15:11Speaker 1: like in the cartoons when they be like one lump
- 15:13Speaker 1: of two and they hit you on the head twice
- 15:15Speaker 1: and your joint pop up.
- 15:17Speaker 2: The Scottie Pippen.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Oh, Scottie Pippen.
- 15:19Speaker 2: He had the waves.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Young people don't know about this moment. This is an
- 15:23Speaker 3: all-time moment.
- 15:24Speaker 1: The 1994 All-Star Game. Scottie Pippen showed up with two things.
- 15:29Speaker 1: One that doesn't jump out so much anymore, which is
- 15:31Speaker 1: those crazy red shoes.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Red flights. Yeah.
- 15:34Speaker 3: But like now you just wear any old color. But
- 15:36Speaker 3: at the time it was wild.
- 15:38Speaker 1: But the other part was Scottie decided to shave his head.
- 15:42Speaker 1: And It looked like somebody had snatched him by the
- 15:45Speaker 1: top of the.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Head and was just go all over his head.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Like there's no way he could have done it with
- 15:52Speaker 1: a razor because there's no way he wouldn't have bled
- 15:54Speaker 1: to death because he had like, you know, the pack
- 15:57Speaker 1: of hot.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Dogs that the bad dudes be having in the back.
- 15:59Speaker 2: He had it all over his head. Yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Like Shane Battier, whole nother world from Shane Battier.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Ooh, Shane's, yeah, Shane's was a little sketch.
- 16:12Speaker 1: It was with Scottie, but that's how wavy Scottie's, Scottie had.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Waves and no hair is what we're saying.
- 16:19Speaker 2: See, the thing I do get with Marcus Freeman is
- 16:22Speaker 2: it's a lot of people who still ain't on, though. Like,
- 16:25Speaker 2: we're on, right? We understand the game and how he's
- 16:28Speaker 2: playing it. But to have kind of like the wave
- 16:31Speaker 2: nouveau vibe and the curl and the Beijing, that's just
- 16:36Speaker 2: diabolical work where you're just looking at him like, I
- 16:38Speaker 2: know that somebody's behind that curtain, Wizard, and I got
- 16:42Speaker 2: to find out who it truly is.
- 16:44Speaker 3: I think it's Richard Pryor.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Oh, but the problem that he has, though, man, if
- 16:50Speaker 1: he go bald, you know what?
- 16:51Speaker 3: He got to change his whole steeze up.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Like, if he go bald, he got to start walking
- 16:55Speaker 1: around with no shirt on and some black hammer pants
- 16:58Speaker 1: and be out here looking like the bad guy in
- 17:01Speaker 1: a Bruce Lai movie. you know like look i'm just
- 17:05Speaker 1: telling you look at the shape of his head if
- 17:08Speaker 1: he were to shave his head with the rest of
- 17:10Speaker 1: the features that he got.
- 17:11Speaker 4: He's a full force backup dancer yeah he looked like
- 17:14Speaker 4: he looked like a boss in not a bruce lee
- 17:17Speaker 4: movie a bruce lie movie he would be that guy
- 17:20Speaker 4: now please understand this the ladies are hearing that.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Like well i think you might want to give it
- 17:25Speaker 1: a try right but for him he ain't He doesn't
- 17:28Speaker 1: have what you need.
- 17:29Speaker 3: He doesn't have the essentials for going ball.
- 17:32Speaker 1: So instead, he just putting that Kiwi on there.
- 17:34Speaker 2: That's why when you get to a certain age and
- 17:37Speaker 2: it's time to do this. You know, you got to
- 17:39Speaker 2: do it in a way where, like, we can't guess
- 17:43Speaker 2: about if you had the procedure done, right? Like, you
- 17:46Speaker 2: got to be like, you know what? I'm on the
- 17:47Speaker 2: way out. Just jump out. I never forget. Never, ever forget.
- 17:50Speaker 2: A buddy of mine was walking behind me, and we
- 17:54Speaker 2: had a pack of girls. This is a long, long, long, long,
- 17:57Speaker 2: long time ago. He was walking behind me. I'm just
- 18:00Speaker 2: making sure. He was walking behind me, and we're walking
- 18:03Speaker 2: to a day party. And the man says, hey, man,
- 18:06Speaker 2: you got to go and fit up top, ain't you?
- 18:10Speaker 2: And I was like, you know what? And it's when
- 18:12Speaker 2: I returned from Chicago, returned from Atlanta to Chicago. I'm like,
- 18:16Speaker 2: you know what? Yeah, it's time. And I had been
- 18:18Speaker 2: doing it throughout my life or whatever. You know, I
- 18:20Speaker 2: remember Sam Mitchell, he and I sitting in an Atlanta
- 18:23Speaker 2: radio studio. And he was like, you know, the procedure
- 18:27Speaker 2: don't cost too much. And I was like, you know what?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Y'all ain't just going to be recommending that this should
- 18:32Speaker 2: happen in this manner. Let me just go ahead. But
- 18:34Speaker 2: the maintenance is an issue. But I am glad that
- 18:36Speaker 2: I have the proper circumference and the matrix to make
- 18:38Speaker 2: sure you look okay.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Did you see T.I. got caught with the hat off?
- 18:42Speaker 2: He did.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:46Speaker 2: It's over. It's over.
- 18:47Speaker 1: This is what T.I. 's problem with that is. T.I., what,
- 18:52Speaker 1: he listed 5'9 in the media, self-reported 5'9?
- 18:57Speaker 3: I think that's what he's saying, 5'9 with the heart
- 19:00Speaker 3: of a six-folk.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I think he's a self-reported 5'9. He strikes me as
- 19:06Speaker 1: the type of gentleman that would take it very personally
- 19:08Speaker 1: if I did not give him the 5'9.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, for sure. I've actually been around T.I.
- 19:12Speaker 2: in those same Atlanta studios. I'm picking up what you're
- 19:16Speaker 2: putting down.
- 19:17Speaker 3: I'm giving him his 5'9. I'm just saying this.
- 19:19Speaker 2: 100%.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Kevin Durant been getting away with the yarmulke for a
- 19:23Speaker 1: very long time because that yarmulke is seven feet off
- 19:25Speaker 1: the ground, right? When you 5'9, yeah, you got to
- 19:28Speaker 1: keep the hat on. Like, this is what's required. Like,
- 19:32Speaker 1: I saw people who had all them jokes on T.I.
- 19:34Speaker 1: and see, this the trick bag. Like, y'all want to
- 19:36Speaker 1: wear these, y'all want to be old but wear these
- 19:38Speaker 1: long hairstyles. That's not compatible after a certain point.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Once you hit that Jerry Rice point in your life
- 19:46Speaker 2: where it's like, there's no reason to have braids or cornrows.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I don't have to do this. I'm one of the
- 19:53Speaker 2: greatest of all time. If T.I. came out tomorrow bald
- 19:56Speaker 2: and just stopped wearing hats, he'd be like, yo, that man,
- 19:59Speaker 2: he had been in trap music. I'm not going. I'm here.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I'm here.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Jerry Rice had a cul-de-sac and cornrows. At the same time,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and my white homie Kirk in California said that having
- 20:16Speaker 1: braids and a bald spot is the black man's comb over.
- 20:19Speaker 1: And that was real talk, man. Like nobody has ever
- 20:24Speaker 1: held on to youth more than Jerry Rice.
- 20:27Speaker 3: In fact, you watched that commercial.
- 20:29Speaker 1: They did with all those Hall of Famers acting like
- 20:31Speaker 1: they old with Randy Moss and Dan Marino and Emma Smith.
- 20:35Speaker 1: The only one that didn't really make it seem like,
- 20:37Speaker 1: only thing, I think Jerry Rice acted like the ball,
- 20:39Speaker 1: like it was, no, that was Randy Moss who was like, wow,
- 20:41Speaker 1: that pass was hard. Jerry Rice was not giving anybody
- 20:45Speaker 1: the satisfaction of thinking that Jerry Rice is old.
- 20:48Speaker 2: No, he's still on that, I will beat you in
- 20:51Speaker 2: a press man coverage type of vibe. Like there's certain
- 20:54Speaker 2: guys who ain't gonna never turn that shit off.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Let's go run up that hill right now.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Right now.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Right now.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Right now, Jerry Rice is just waiting on that call.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Jerry Rice on that Phillip Rivers, just waiting on that call.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Well, listen, that Phillip Rivers, you know, people talk about-
- 21:09Speaker 2: He gonna.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Start again next week.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And again, if I'm Riley Leonard, how do you, like,
- 21:14Speaker 1: if it was a regular job, you would quit.
- 21:16Speaker 2: You feel terrible. And also, on top of all this is,
- 21:20Speaker 2: if you're on that defense, or if you're Jonathan Taylor,
- 21:23Speaker 2: it's like, wait a minute, you mean to tell me
- 21:25Speaker 2: in the Indianapolis Colts franchise history that, you know, Peyton
- 21:29Speaker 2: Manning was a blip in terms of, I've been here
- 21:31Speaker 2: for the Burt Jones years, right? Like, In the history
- 21:34Speaker 2: of this franchise, you think there's going to be moments
- 21:37Speaker 2: where we're going to capitalize on having somebody else's throwaway
- 21:40Speaker 2: take him to an 8-4 record. And all of a
- 21:43Speaker 2: sudden say, you know what? All this development, all this evaluation,
- 21:47Speaker 2: all this shit that we've been talking about here with
- 21:49Speaker 2: these players, at least for the last two, three years.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Let's see if a dude who is on a high
- 21:53Speaker 2: school football field with a headset... With a headset. Want
- 21:57Speaker 2: to come out here and do this, man? Like, come on, dog.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Come on. It was, you know, the Jeff Saturday thing
- 22:03Speaker 2: blew my mind a few years ago.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Why you say was? It ain't no was. It's still
- 22:08Speaker 3: going on.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I can't believe any of them are willing to risk
- 22:14Speaker 1: this for another week to give this a try. My
- 22:17Speaker 1: buddy Nick has made a point, and we were talking
- 22:20Speaker 1: about this over the weekend, and he made the point quickly,
- 22:22Speaker 1: and he was just.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Like, these coaches and their systems, And their.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Inability, like nothing matters more than the idea that you
- 22:32Speaker 1: know how to run my system and that my system
- 22:36Speaker 1: can crack any code that you have. And look, that
- 22:39Speaker 1: starts with Bill Walsh. Bill Walsh is the first. Just
- 22:42Speaker 1: do what I say. Everything is built in. You don't
- 22:44Speaker 1: even need to call audibles. Right. Everything you need is
- 22:47Speaker 1: right here. If you just do what I say, everything
- 22:50Speaker 1: will be okay.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Shout out to Lawrence Taylor for making that happen, by
- 22:54Speaker 2: the way. Oh my God.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Lawrence Taylor made people.
- 22:56Speaker 1: That's the difference between Lawrence Taylor and all these other cats.
- 23:00Speaker 1: And why I still say he is the number one.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Lawrence Taylor made them invent stuff.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:06Speaker 2: West Coast offense. We're going to throw to a spot
- 23:09Speaker 2: because he's going to be here at some point.
- 23:10Speaker 3: How about this?
- 23:11Speaker 1: The H-back invented to stop Lawrence Taylor. As football has
- 23:19Speaker 1: been established in this day and.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Time, there's nothing that we can do about this. We
- 23:27Speaker 3: have to change things around here.
- 23:29Speaker 2: You know what, man? I needed this kind of conversation
- 23:33Speaker 2: because I was thinking about it this morning and how
- 23:35Speaker 2: my fandom has changed. This weekend, I was in Los
- 23:40Speaker 2: Angeles and the Heisman, ceremony had happened. And I remember
- 23:45Speaker 2: there was a time where as a kid, it was
- 23:48Speaker 2: event television. Like I am, I am about to learn
- 23:52Speaker 2: things about three dudes who I kind of been watching.
- 23:54Speaker 2: And hopefully the two dudes I have been watching and
- 23:56Speaker 2: rooting for going to get this thing. Like I remember
- 23:59Speaker 2: having arguments about Larry Fitzgerald's year or Christian McCaffrey. I
- 24:03Speaker 2: think Christian McCaffrey's Heisman was the last one where I
- 24:06Speaker 2: was like, tapped into like who really should win and
- 24:09Speaker 2: why they should win. And all these like, not just
- 24:12Speaker 2: nostalgic conversations, but like the regular conversations that we had.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I think the whole social media part, we were talking
- 24:18Speaker 2: about what's happening with the parody accounts. Man, there are
- 24:21Speaker 2: so many interactions that I just don't have in this
- 24:25Speaker 2: business anymore that the fan in me still wants to
- 24:28Speaker 2: have that have just moved total departments like the Heisman
- 24:33Speaker 2: ceremony out of my entire thinking. And I know it's
- 24:37Speaker 2: because we're getting older. I know families and life and
- 24:39Speaker 2: all these other things. Yeah. But shit, man, like I'm
- 24:42Speaker 2: sitting there, I'm sitting there watching people have this should, should,
- 24:45Speaker 2: should door have won the Heisman two years ago because
- 24:48Speaker 2: of what Fernando Mendoza conversation. I'm like, this ain't it.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Like this, this ain't what I used to talk about
- 24:53Speaker 2: when the Heisman was important for me. Right. But yeah, man, it's, it's,
- 24:58Speaker 2: I'm glad these kinds of conversations still exist because boy, they,
- 25:02Speaker 2: you know, it is a cesspool out there. Like I watch,
- 25:05Speaker 2: I watch, I watch good, good.
- 25:07Speaker 3: I was going to say, I ain't really cared about
- 25:09Speaker 3: the Heisman this year, right? When's the last time you did, though?
- 25:13Speaker 2: When's the last time you had tapped in, like, I
- 25:16Speaker 2: think Marshall Falk is by far the greatest player in
- 25:19Speaker 2: all of college football, and because he's a freshman, he
- 25:21Speaker 2: ain't going to win it. This shit is crazy.
- 25:24Speaker 1: If you put the years in front of me, right,
- 25:27Speaker 1: I could probably talk about it a little bit more,
- 25:29Speaker 1: but yeah, it doesn't jump off the top of my
- 25:31Speaker 1: head like it did.
- 25:32Speaker 3: But I will say this.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I'm assuming they don't allow you to do NIL deals
- 25:37Speaker 1: for alcohol companies. Because if they did, they would have
- 25:42Speaker 1: been sponsored by Modelo.
- 25:47Speaker 3: It would have been a full-fledged... We got Mendoza. We
- 25:50Speaker 3: got Diego.
- 25:51Speaker 1: We got the boy Rodriguez from Texas Tech.
- 25:57Speaker 3: And it would have been great for Modelo.
- 25:59Speaker 1: I think I've talked about this on the air, but
- 26:01Speaker 1: like In order to get a Modelo commercial, Tony Gonzalez
- 26:05Speaker 1: had to be Tony Gonzalez.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Had to be Anderson.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Paak to get in a Modelo commercial. They call a
- 26:12Speaker 1: Roberto Garza, a NFL, a Hispanic legend in the Modelo commercial.
- 26:17Speaker 1: They got some woman they say is a DJ that
- 26:19Speaker 1: used to be 5-0.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Anderson.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Paak is the coldest musician of his generation. That's what
- 26:24Speaker 1: he had to do to get a Modelo commercial. Now
- 26:27Speaker 1: they can put these cats in the Modelo commercials who
- 26:30Speaker 1: deserve to be in a Modelo commercial, right? Who are
- 26:33Speaker 1: living up to the standards that everybody has to be.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Shout out to you, Francisco. Shout out to you, Diego.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Shout out to you, Jacob. You know what I'm saying? Like,
- 26:44Speaker 1: Modelo could have really run it over here.
- 26:46Speaker 2: You know, it's like the Chris Rock joke where he goes,
- 26:49Speaker 2: I'm cold as shit. And you know who lives next
- 26:52Speaker 2: door to me? A dentist. Yes. This motherfucker ain't create teeth.
- 26:59Speaker 2: That's what it is.
- 27:01Speaker 1: That's how the Modelo commercials be feeling, but I don't
- 27:06Speaker 1: feel like we made enough of a big deal about this. Like,
- 27:09Speaker 1: this really was a great year for Latino football players. Like,
- 27:12Speaker 1: we had the generation of football integration, but now we're
- 27:17Speaker 1: seeing all the Nigerian cats, for example. They're really starting
- 27:20Speaker 1: to get in and make their mark in playing football. Look,
- 27:23Speaker 1: I grew up in Texas, man. It just really wasn't
- 27:25Speaker 1: that many cold Mexicans out here getting it done. I
- 27:28Speaker 1: don't have an explanation. I'm not implying anything that is
- 27:31Speaker 1: about genetics or anything else, but in a state that's
- 27:34Speaker 1: got a whole... That's the thing about Texas. Texas got
- 27:35Speaker 1: a lot of people. Texas got a lot of Mexicans,
- 27:37Speaker 1: and the Mexicans were not really playing high-level football like that,
- 27:40Speaker 1: but Hey, if the game is changing.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Also, by the way, I know these cats at least
- 27:46Speaker 3: aren't all Mexican.
- 27:48Speaker 1: I know that Francisco Mendoza is not Mexican. Just so
- 27:53Speaker 1: you know, I'm not letting the Houston slip out and
- 27:56Speaker 1: just assume that everybody is Mexican. However, Jacob Rodriguez at
- 28:00Speaker 1: Texas Tech, you are Mexican until proven otherwise.
- 28:04Speaker 3: And if I'm wrong, I'm just wrong.
- 28:06Speaker 2: But Roger Goodell would love to hear you say shit
- 28:09Speaker 2: like that because, man, you talk about how long this
- 28:12Speaker 2: sport has been trying to make itself more popular to
- 28:16Speaker 2: everyone else outside the people who already love it and
- 28:19Speaker 2: know it, man. Like, I remember watching all them bad
- 28:23Speaker 2: NFL Europe games and everything. And all the other things.
- 28:26Speaker 2: And now you're going over the big pond four, five, six,
- 28:31Speaker 2: seven times a year and getting the game out to people.
- 28:35Speaker 2: And it seemed like there had been movements, right? Like
- 28:37Speaker 2: you had the Pacific Islander, Asian-American kind of, you know,
- 28:42Speaker 2: the dude, all the cats who had the Vida Vella
- 28:47Speaker 2: type of archetype. Yeah, like now you mentioned the Nigerian
- 28:51Speaker 2: homies are running this thing. Like, I don't know. I
- 28:54Speaker 2: don't know where, as we cut more and more the
- 28:57Speaker 2: middle class of actual participants of sports, I don't know
- 29:01Speaker 2: where the next wave is coming from because I know
- 29:03Speaker 2: it ain't out in the bay with all the tech kids.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Where do you think it is going next then, if
- 29:09Speaker 2: that's the case?
- 29:10Speaker 3: That's a good question, right?
- 29:12Speaker 2: Because you can have stardom in a way that the
- 29:15Speaker 2: NFL offers that really no other sport does, right? Basketball-wise,
- 29:21Speaker 2: you can look at greats who got introduced to basketball
- 29:24Speaker 2: and how it happened. The fact that Joel Embiid is
- 29:27Speaker 2: a part of the NBA African movement the way he
- 29:30Speaker 2: is and has won an MVP and is an amazing player.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Basketball is a worldwide sport in a different way. Soccer,
- 29:38Speaker 2: we already know the vibes, but with football, there's so
- 29:41Speaker 2: many opportunities. You got all these rugby dudes coming over
- 29:44Speaker 2: here like, hey man, there's a 53-man spot. I can
- 29:47Speaker 2: find one of those jobs.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Let me tell you what I just thought about also
- 29:51Speaker 1: while you was talking about that.
- 29:52Speaker 3: The AAPI, right? Asian, American, Pacific Islanders.
- 29:58Speaker 1: All of us who are not white, we just be
- 30:01Speaker 1: clustering up, dog. We just got to put together a squad. Like,
- 30:06Speaker 1: I hadn't really thought about it until you were talking
- 30:08Speaker 1: right there. Like, brother, that is a broad classification. Latino
- 30:12Speaker 1: is a broad class.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Black. Black.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Is a broad classification. There's a whole lot of people
- 30:20Speaker 1: in that tent that don't like each other.
- 30:22Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 30:22Speaker 2: You're going to get the FBA and the ADOS people involved.
- 30:25Speaker 2: They're going to jump.
- 30:27Speaker 3: On my ass.
- 30:27Speaker 1: We just got to all hold it together. We got
- 30:29Speaker 1: a power of numbers, right? We just all got to
- 30:31Speaker 1: hold it together. When you started talking about Pacific Islanders
- 30:34Speaker 1: right there, I was just thinking about that. Like, what
- 30:36Speaker 1: do they and they got to do with one another?
- 30:39Speaker 1: And it's, we need these numbers, dog.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. Yeah. And they spinning and they providing resources, right?
- 30:45Speaker 2: Like the natural resources that the sport needs is right
- 30:48Speaker 2: there for you.
- 30:49Speaker 1: I also imagine in clicking up on that, there was
- 30:51Speaker 1: some of the Pacific Islanders that was like, look, we
- 30:52Speaker 1: got to go join up with them because otherwise they
- 30:54Speaker 1: going to think that we down with, you know, that
- 30:57Speaker 1: over there. I would love to go to the barbershop
- 31:01Speaker 1: that two would go to in Hawaii. I want to
- 31:03Speaker 1: see what's on the wall in there.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Listen, if you ever want to find out Truly find
- 31:09Speaker 2: out what happens, especially like in Major League Baseball, where
- 31:12Speaker 2: how guys get indoctrinated to the game and all that
- 31:15Speaker 2: other stuff. All they do is, hey, look, you can,
- 31:18Speaker 2: you know, shout out to Fernando Tatis Jr. He got
- 31:21Speaker 2: the dreads. He got the swag. He wears the clothes
- 31:24Speaker 2: and all that. But hey, top step. when that anthem
- 31:28Speaker 2: come on. You know what I'm saying? I know you've
- 31:33Speaker 2: seen the dwindling numbers around here. Don't get caught up
- 31:36Speaker 2: in a life too much, though. You know what I mean?
- 31:39Speaker 2: Don't get it twisted. You know what I mean? There's
- 31:42Speaker 2: a covering that is necessary and also telling you how
- 31:46Speaker 2: to succeed. Yeah, people find out quick, like, hey, we
- 31:50Speaker 2: should be more over here with us because at some point,
- 31:53Speaker 2: there's going to be a maddening at them. You know
- 31:55Speaker 2: what I mean? Yes. Yeah, yeah. Top step of that dugout, homeboy.
- 31:59Speaker 2: You can get them rap lyrics off on the walk-up song.
- 32:01Speaker 3: If you want to.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You did the salute just now. I
- 32:07Speaker 2: saw one of the Broncos doing the mile-high salute the
- 32:10Speaker 2: other day. I'm like, think of where we've come since 2016. Yo, man.
- 32:14Speaker 2: We had to put in racism in the end zones
- 32:18Speaker 2: and all these other things, and now we're back to
- 32:20Speaker 2: the mile-high salute.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Brother, it's so wild.
- 32:23Speaker 1: The only people still talking about it is the NFL, right?
- 32:27Speaker 1: At least they still, look, they took in racism off,
- 32:29Speaker 1: but it still take all of us.
- 32:31Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? They still choose love. Inspire change. Yeah,
- 32:36Speaker 3: they're the only ones still doing that stuff.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Everybody else, like, the police never stopped killing us.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Just to be clear. They never took a break.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Right and they did not they kept on going and
- 32:49Speaker 1: everybody just got bored we got bored it wasn't hot
- 32:53Speaker 1: anymore right tired.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Of it yeah yeah oh my gosh.
- 32:56Speaker 2: When i saw when i saw burner boy at the
- 32:59Speaker 2: uh salt lake city uh all-star performance i was like
- 33:02Speaker 2: oh yeah you cats uh you jaws and zions of
- 33:06Speaker 2: the world and get your shit together there's a wave
- 33:09Speaker 2: that is coming okay the lakers the lakers are showtime
- 33:14Speaker 2: and white right now okay like yannis has the world
- 33:18Speaker 2: on tilt okay like hey just take a look around
- 33:21Speaker 2: at the landscape and who they are looking around saying
- 33:24Speaker 2: hey we got a lot more basketball players who are
- 33:27Speaker 2: playing uh fast-paced style sharing the ball not talking shit
- 33:31Speaker 2: this is turning into hockey on hardwood in a way
- 33:34Speaker 2: that i don't think people are very aware of just
- 33:36Speaker 2: look at the basketball teams man just look at look
- 33:39Speaker 2: at what's happening right now it's It's super different. It's
- 33:42Speaker 2: super different.
- 33:43Speaker 3: It's different.
- 33:44Speaker 1: But coming up next, speaking of different, do the Bears
- 33:47Speaker 1: have a squad and a coach and?
- 33:49Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 33:51Speaker 3: I already know where you're going to go on this
- 33:53Speaker 3: quarterback discussion, but we'll see. Coming up next.

- 35:14Speaker 3: Free gifts for new subscribers. All right, we're back. It's
- 35:20Speaker 3: Jason Goff. Hey, man. It was like a degree in
- 35:26Speaker 3: Chicago on Sunday.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Yes. And.
- 35:30Speaker 1: I had already decided that there was only, I haven't
- 35:34Speaker 1: talked about how Shadua played in that game. I watched
- 35:36Speaker 1: it so much. It looked like, um, his boys dropped
- 35:38Speaker 1: a couple of passes that would have made things better. Um,
- 35:41Speaker 1: but it was like a degree, right? It's his third
- 35:44Speaker 1: or fourth start, whatever it was. I was not, there
- 35:46Speaker 1: was only so much I was going to say about
- 35:48Speaker 1: him based on the performance, unless he was excellent.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 35:51Speaker 1: It just didn't feel like that would be fair. Um,
- 35:53Speaker 1: Caleb Williams, meanwhile, was excellent against a defense that we've
- 35:57Speaker 1: all thought of as being pretty good, like with Myles
- 35:59Speaker 1: Garrett out there on the field. Do you have the guy?
- 36:05Speaker 2: Yes. Yes. And there was a recalibration of the expectation. Maybe.
- 36:13Speaker 2: I'd say halfway through this assignment here with the 30-some-odd
- 36:17Speaker 2: starts where it's like, okay, if he's smoking these layups
- 36:20Speaker 2: this consistently, then maybe it's that second tier, top of
- 36:24Speaker 2: the second tier guy that in the NFL you can
- 36:26Speaker 2: win with, obviously. Look what's happening around the league. This
- 36:30Speaker 2: is a hodgepodge of NFL quarterbacks who are really winning
- 36:34Speaker 2: out here over these last couple of years. But man,
- 36:37Speaker 2: there are the plays, brother, where you've seen as a
- 36:41Speaker 2: Bears fan for years that The hawk chopped that bitch down.
- 36:46Speaker 3: See for the night.
- 36:49Speaker 1: This is the first time that we've used the hawk
- 36:53Speaker 1: in a football context, but that is the most appropriate
- 36:56Speaker 1: use of the hawk ever because we are talking about
- 36:58Speaker 1: not the feeling of the hawk, but the function of
- 37:00Speaker 1: the hawk.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Man, that wind off that lake with that degree. Telling
- 37:06Speaker 2: you now, it was the difference in the game in
- 37:08Speaker 2: a large way for me and Shador and Caleb. Like,
- 37:13Speaker 2: I've seen Steve Stenstrom and Craig Krenzel and baseball players,
- 37:19Speaker 2: Chad Hutchinson, I've seen that shit knock passes down and
- 37:23Speaker 2: it have to, you know, make a passing game very,
- 37:27Speaker 2: very elementary, right, to intermediate sometime. Kyle Long talked about
- 37:31Speaker 2: it as well. He talked about how when he was
- 37:35Speaker 2: a Kansas City chief, he asked the coordinator, yo, what's
- 37:38Speaker 2: happening here because... Shit is crazy out here. The weather's
- 37:42Speaker 2: going wild. And then the coordinators say, yeah, we got 15.
- 37:44Speaker 2: We ain't got to worry about that. That's the same
- 37:47Speaker 2: kind of vibe that Caleb is giving off. Even in
- 37:49Speaker 2: last season when they lost 10 games in a row.
- 37:52Speaker 2: They lost 10 in a row. But against the Detroit
- 37:54Speaker 2: Lions indoors, a real defense, he brought them back. It
- 37:57Speaker 2: was time management. And this year, he's come back in
- 38:00Speaker 2: games where it's like, you know what? We're used to
- 38:03Speaker 2: seeing those type of Bears games lost. And the only
- 38:06Speaker 2: thing that holds you back is that there will be
- 38:08Speaker 2: moments where you can see that he's counting steps instead
- 38:12Speaker 2: of dancing with the offense and not just letting that
- 38:14Speaker 2: bitch rip. But when he lets it rip, like there
- 38:17Speaker 2: are certain plays, the Zaccheaus touchdown the week before against
- 38:20Speaker 2: the Packers, where it's like, that shouldn't happen. Colston Loveland
- 38:24Speaker 2: has become a dude who stays on his feet while
- 38:26Speaker 2: catching the ball. Cole Komet has had that issue recently.
- 38:29Speaker 2: falling down and he's hurt right now. So hopefully he
- 38:32Speaker 2: won't be out for too long. But man, the dude
- 38:35Speaker 2: puts the ball in places that only five or six
- 38:39Speaker 2: dudes in the NFL can. And that hasn't been the
- 38:41Speaker 2: case for Bears football for so long. Like every 20 years,
- 38:45Speaker 2: I get a good Bears team to enjoy, right? Where
- 38:48Speaker 2: there's 85, 05, and now 25. But even with those,
- 38:52Speaker 2: you've watched it with Rex Grossman and Jim McMahon. And
- 38:55Speaker 2: the cat who had this kind of arm Nobody really,
- 38:58Speaker 2: I won't say nobody, but people didn't really rock with
- 39:02Speaker 2: the way that they should have.
- 39:04Speaker 1: The way they should have, that is interesting because he's
- 39:07Speaker 1: just Jay.
- 39:08Speaker 3: You're talking about Jay, I'm assuming.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Jay don't make it easy, man.
- 39:13Speaker 2: I know he doesn't. I know he doesn't. But I've
- 39:15Speaker 2: also seen people put things aside for assholes when it's
- 39:19Speaker 2: time to win in this city.
- 39:21Speaker 1: But that tells me just how much of a jerk
- 39:23Speaker 1: that people thought that Jay was, right? Like, white dude
- 39:27Speaker 1: with the super cold arm and people were still like.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:31Speaker 1: In fact, I feel like his brothers took up for
- 39:33Speaker 1: Jay more than anybody else.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Yes, they did. Yes, they did. I still talk to 05,
- 39:40Speaker 2: members of that 05 team, and Jay... in a way
- 39:45Speaker 2: that this city wasn't prepared for, was the first glance
- 39:50Speaker 2: at what a star quarterback's activity is like. And I
- 39:53Speaker 2: think in that locker room and in that organization, you
- 39:57Speaker 2: hadn't had to have one of those. Also, right now,
- 40:00Speaker 2: this city is learning how to deal with a star,
- 40:02Speaker 2: deal with a quarterback who is everybody's and not just yours. Right.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Like Brian Urlacher was a star of that team. And
- 40:09Speaker 2: when you put another dude who is supposed to be
- 40:13Speaker 2: the star, a bigger star than you in that locker room,
- 40:15Speaker 2: who also has the attitude of like, I really don't matter.
- 40:18Speaker 2: You know, we'll get through this because he's been solely
- 40:21Speaker 2: relying on his talent. Then there's that friction there with
- 40:24Speaker 2: this situation. Caleb Williams, he has a certain amount of deference,
- 40:30Speaker 2: but it's understanding that if I make them believe that
- 40:33Speaker 2: they're more important than me, I know I'm going to
- 40:36Speaker 2: get my shit on because I know how cold I am.
- 40:38Speaker 2: He was asked about the throw at the back of
- 40:40Speaker 2: the end zone where it could have been intercepted twice.
- 40:44Speaker 2: And DJ Moore goes up and gets it. And a
- 40:46Speaker 2: lot of people around these parts are surprised. making the
- 40:49Speaker 2: connections to Joe Montana, Dwight Clarks to catch him. Like, hey,
- 40:52Speaker 2: slow down. This is being ridiculous. But it looks similar
- 40:55Speaker 2: because two people should have intercepted it. He got asked
- 40:58Speaker 2: about it being a risky throw, and he goes, I
- 41:00Speaker 2: can make that throw. You haven't had a person who
- 41:04Speaker 2: talked like that and can actually do that in this
- 41:06Speaker 2: city in forever. So that's why I think not only
- 41:10Speaker 2: is he that dude, I think before long, and it
- 41:15Speaker 2: might be by the end of this year, it might
- 41:17Speaker 2: be middle of next year, I think before long, he's
- 41:19Speaker 2: going to be the undoubtedly best quarterback ever. in this division.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Because Jordan Love, you know, there's a lot of double
- 41:26Speaker 2: agent to his game.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I hear you, boy.
- 41:28Speaker 2: There's a lot of double agent to his game.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Being undoubtedly better than Jordan Love is going to be
- 41:33Speaker 1: asking for a lot.
- 41:34Speaker 2: A lot. I think he will be. Look at Jordan
- 41:38Speaker 2: in the playoffs. Look at Jordan when they get cold. Like,
- 41:41Speaker 2: there's a different vibe. There's a different to me. I'm
- 41:44Speaker 2: looking forward to... This is the first time they've played
- 41:46Speaker 2: each other. The Packers played the Bears twice in three
- 41:49Speaker 2: weeks in like... 30 some odd years, something crazy like that.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Like it doesn't happen like this. And for it to
- 41:54Speaker 2: have so much on the line, man, I think Caleb
- 41:58Speaker 2: Williams is a dude who, you know, who I've seen
- 42:01Speaker 2: it at multiple stops. And this is just the next one.
- 42:05Speaker 2: You know, seeing Jordan, I didn't watch Utah State games.
- 42:08Speaker 2: And what I've watched of Jordan Love as a pro
- 42:09Speaker 2: has been excellent. But when that light go out, There's
- 42:13Speaker 2: a different demeanor back there with him. After tough plays,
- 42:17Speaker 2: after tough drives, after tough halves, Jordan Love is a
- 42:21Speaker 2: guy who I will put behind Caleb Williams when it
- 42:26Speaker 2: comes to persevering. I will. That is interesting. I will.
- 42:31Speaker 3: We're going to see.
- 42:31Speaker 2: You see what Caleb had to deal with last year
- 42:34Speaker 2: and came out okay?
- 42:35Speaker 1: Shit.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Come on. I think you make fair points. I am
- 42:40Speaker 3: high on Jordan Love.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Me too. That's how I am Caleb though.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Also, shout out to Big Brain Ben. Big Brain Ben
- 42:47Speaker 1: is getting it done. I feel like they're getting a
- 42:51Speaker 1: lot of coaches.
- 42:51Speaker 3: Wins with this team, right?
- 42:53Speaker 1: The point differential does not indicate that this team is
- 42:56Speaker 1: necessarily that great, but they're getting it done. And when
- 42:59Speaker 1: Caleb wasn't that great, they were still finding ways to
- 43:02Speaker 1: get it done.
- 43:04Speaker 2: That's heavy on the coach. Big Ben not only has
- 43:08Speaker 2: been doing a good job, but Talent evaluation, man. Like
- 43:13Speaker 2: Airbnb got DeAndre Swift running a lot different than he
- 43:17Speaker 2: has the last two years. Al Harris turned Nashawn Wright
- 43:21Speaker 2: into a Pro Bowl player after being there a couple
- 43:23Speaker 2: of different stops with him on the practice squad and
- 43:25Speaker 2: him saying, yo, I got a dude. You give him
- 43:28Speaker 2: a chance. You know, the Bears have been without. Two
- 43:31Speaker 2: of their top three or four defenders for most of
- 43:34Speaker 2: the season. Kyle Gordon has played, what, one or two games?
- 43:38Speaker 2: Jalen Johnson is back and is one of the best
- 43:41Speaker 2: corners in the game. But this year, he don't look
- 43:43Speaker 2: like that because his muscle ripped off his adductor and
- 43:47Speaker 2: he out here playing football. Like the things that Al
- 43:49Speaker 2: Harris and Eric Bien-Aimé and Antoine Randall-El, like Ben Johnson
- 43:53Speaker 2: learned some things from Dan Campbell, which is, hey, man,
- 43:57Speaker 2: you open up this coaching pool. And I mean, really
- 44:00Speaker 2: open it up and give it to cats who not
- 44:01Speaker 2: only deserve it, but motivate people in a way that
- 44:05Speaker 2: certain cats can't. Yeah, man, Al Harris created, I mean,
- 44:09Speaker 2: Neshaun Wright is doing a great job on his own
- 44:11Speaker 2: and should get personally rewarded, but he is about to
- 44:15Speaker 2: get financially rewarded because Al Harris said, this guy should
- 44:18Speaker 2: be on the field if we get a chance. This
- 44:20Speaker 2: dude's got the most turnovers forced in all of the NFL.
- 44:23Speaker 2: And they're doing this without a pass rush too. There's
- 44:27Speaker 2: so many cracks and flaws in this team that the
- 44:29Speaker 2: fact that the quarterback is playing the way he is,
- 44:32Speaker 2: the fact that the coach is coaching the way he is,
- 44:35Speaker 2: It is something to see. I thought this was maybe
- 44:38Speaker 2: a seven or eight win team this year. This team
- 44:40Speaker 2: might end up 12 and five, man. In an NFL
- 44:43Speaker 2: where you see so many teams not take advantage of things,
- 44:46Speaker 2: where it's like, man, Jacksonville is out here running roughshod
- 44:49Speaker 2: on people because they're taking advantage of the football that
- 44:54Speaker 2: Kansas City has played over the last few years. The
- 44:57Speaker 2: fact that Baltimore is down, Cincinnati's a mess. There's certain
- 45:01Speaker 2: teams that just jump up and take advantage and you
- 45:03Speaker 2: gotta you gotta be impressed with the coaching staff and
- 45:06Speaker 2: that's what ben johnson and this staff has done with
- 45:08Speaker 2: this bears team.
- 45:09Speaker 1: I think the b enemy point is worth noting it
- 45:12Speaker 1: ain't really looked the same over there in kansas city
- 45:14Speaker 1: since he left right maybe he's not a head coach
- 45:17Speaker 1: but he was somebody over there you know what i
- 45:19Speaker 1: mean like i can't call.
- 45:21Speaker 2: It out he was you know what i think it
- 45:23Speaker 2: is um when you have a certain amount of success
- 45:28Speaker 2: like i asked i asked this of uh I was
- 45:30Speaker 2: talking to Scott Hanson from the NFL Red Zone. He's
- 45:33Speaker 2: doing a feature piece on him. And I asked him, like,
- 45:35Speaker 2: are you a great show guy? And immediately he goes
- 45:38Speaker 2: to me, no, no, no. And it was like a
- 45:39Speaker 2: kindred spirit because I hate the people who say great
- 45:42Speaker 2: show after every show. It's like, no, we got to
- 45:45Speaker 2: be more aware of our modifiers, our descriptors out here. Like,
- 45:48Speaker 2: you know when it feel great. You know when you're
- 45:50Speaker 2: grinding through something. I feel like the Kansas City Chiefs
- 45:53Speaker 2: have been grinding through something for the last couple of years, right? And,
- 45:57Speaker 2: you know, it feels great, but you ain't got nobody
- 46:00Speaker 2: to be like, hey, this shit ain't great enough. I
- 46:02Speaker 2: don't know if Matt Nagy's that guy, right? Andy Reid,
- 46:05Speaker 2: he's been coaching for so long that you can ask
- 46:08Speaker 2: if you put a bunch of people in a room
- 46:10Speaker 2: and ask who's doing their job the best, how many
- 46:13Speaker 2: hands gonna go up before you think Andy Reid can
- 46:15Speaker 2: go up this last couple of years? So Airbnb and
- 46:18Speaker 2: some of these other guys who ain't scared to make
- 46:20Speaker 2: it a little uncomfortable, you need those cats, especially when
- 46:23Speaker 2: it comes to, you know, bumps in the road. Like,
- 46:26Speaker 2: you don't need them when everybody flying high and you
- 46:28Speaker 2: getting ready to pop champagne. But when shit ain't right
- 46:32Speaker 2: and nobody is acting like it ain't right, like Chris
- 46:34Speaker 2: Jones had to be explained to that they was out
- 46:36Speaker 2: of playoff contention in the postgame. Like he said, we
- 46:40Speaker 2: still got a fighting chance. And the reporter's like, hey, no, no, no, no.
- 46:43Speaker 3: My man.
- 46:44Speaker 2: This was it. This was it, player.
- 46:46Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 46:47Speaker 2: Yeah. So, yeah, certain dudes, professional discomfort is necessary. Everybody
- 46:53Speaker 2: need a truth-to-source rec. Shout out to Carl Everett back
- 46:55Speaker 2: in the day in that white-size clubhouse who made everything
- 46:58Speaker 2: uncomfortable at all times, right? Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 47:01Speaker 3: Hold on, though. Hold on, though. Did he call himself
- 47:04Speaker 3: the truth-to-source recs, Carl Everett? Because, you know, he don't
- 47:07Speaker 3: think dinosaurs existed.
- 47:11Speaker 2: No, he didn't. A local cat, Joe Cowley, who was
- 47:15Speaker 2: covering the team at the time, called him that because
- 47:18Speaker 2: I think he was making the play on the fact
- 47:21Speaker 2: that Carl wasn't with that nonsense.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Now, staying in your division, something that I think is
- 47:29Speaker 1: getting a little play but not quite enough play is
- 47:32Speaker 1: it's been a lot coming out of Minnesota about J.J.
- 47:34Speaker 1: McCarthy and The people who feel like they did something
- 47:37Speaker 1: wrong because they didn't keep Sam Darnold, I think that
- 47:39Speaker 1: that's a stupid argument.
- 47:40Speaker 3: They drafted McCarthy.
- 47:42Speaker 1: That was their guy, and Darnold came apart at the
- 47:45Speaker 1: end of last season. He will probably come apart at
- 47:47Speaker 1: the end of some other season. If they bet on
- 47:50Speaker 1: the wrong horse, that's fine, but that decision was made
- 47:53Speaker 1: when they drafted J.J.
- 47:55Speaker 3: McCarthy, period, right?
- 47:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Um, he has not been that good this year, but
- 47:59Speaker 1: we've heard stuff about like, he's got his own quarterback
- 48:01Speaker 1: coach who teaches him stuff completely different than the NFL
- 48:04Speaker 1: team seems to be teaching him. He has been good
- 48:07Speaker 1: in fourth quarters at points, but I mean, he's not
- 48:09Speaker 1: looked good very much when I've watched him, but they
- 48:11Speaker 1: won this game on Sunday night against the Cowboys and
- 48:14Speaker 1: he did a gritty into the end zone and.
- 48:16Speaker 3: His head coach was great.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Furious right his head coach was furious with him a
- 48:21Speaker 1: couple weeks ago or maybe the week before where they
- 48:24Speaker 1: huddled when it was time to kneel it out because
- 48:26Speaker 1: he almost messed that up then they get in the
- 48:28Speaker 1: post game and o'connell is talking about he's talking about
- 48:31Speaker 1: he doesn't like the fact that the dude did the
- 48:33Speaker 1: gritty into the end zone and by the way for
- 48:35Speaker 1: everybody needs to understand he could have done the centipede
- 48:38Speaker 1: into the end zone nobody was anywhere near him he
- 48:41Speaker 1: could have done whatever he wanted and the coach is
- 48:43Speaker 1: still furious about this and then said something that's jumped
- 48:47Speaker 1: out to me where he says something about yeah you
- 48:49Speaker 1: know he can move he always talks about that 40
- 48:51Speaker 1: yard dash that he didn't have to run and i'm
- 48:53Speaker 1: like oh my god they're taking notes on everything that
- 48:56Speaker 1: they don't like that you've done and said and they
- 48:59Speaker 1: springing this shit up in front of other people.
- 49:01Speaker 3: They can't stand him.
- 49:03Speaker 2: Yeah they don't rock with them in a way that's
- 49:05Speaker 2: so weird right like When you see this, I guess
- 49:09Speaker 2: it's not weird, but when you see this, you start
- 49:12Speaker 2: to think who pulled the trigger on decisions when it
- 49:16Speaker 2: comes to drafting and evaluation. This is what happens when
- 49:19Speaker 2: area scouts stand on tables and go, hey, we shouldn't
- 49:22Speaker 2: do this, or we should do this. And you're talking
- 49:25Speaker 2: to that person every chance you possibly can get. Or
- 49:28Speaker 2: when somebody's got the owner's ear, when somebody's got the
- 49:31Speaker 2: GM's ear, it doesn't feel like KOC feels like this
- 49:34Speaker 2: is the route that they should continue to go. And
- 49:37Speaker 2: I'm interested because I've actually gone back and tried to
- 49:40Speaker 2: read and listen to, because I'm on this too, what
- 49:44Speaker 2: Sean McVay was saying about Jared Goff at the end
- 49:47Speaker 2: of the run where you knew this was going to
- 49:49Speaker 2: be the case or, you know, what things have said
- 49:51Speaker 2: about Jimmy Garoppolo. Like there's, there are people who look
- 49:54Speaker 2: at quarterbacks and go, if this works, then somebody is
- 49:58Speaker 2: going to be a genius. But then you look at
- 50:01Speaker 2: guys and go, this, this shouldn't be attempted, right? Like,
- 50:05Speaker 2: But drafting J.J. McCarthy in the first round, like when
- 50:07Speaker 2: I saw it, I thought the mock drafts were saying,
- 50:10Speaker 2: I'm like, all right, this is where somebody is going
- 50:11Speaker 2: to obviously be wrong. And then it was moving up
- 50:14Speaker 2: and up. And then you start to get to that
- 50:15Speaker 2: top 11, top 12 spot. I'm like, hey, man, are
- 50:18Speaker 2: we forgetting what these are supposed to feel and look like? Yeah.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Just because you're so starved for it. Right.
- 50:25Speaker 3: But but but they were in a is that system stuff.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Right. Like he if you're if the platonic ideal for
- 50:31Speaker 1: your system is Kirk Cousins.
- 50:32Speaker 3: Guys, guys, think about this.
- 50:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 50:35Speaker 1: But it's the same as the Falcons trading up to
- 50:38Speaker 1: take Pennix. Go look at the quarterbacks that came in
- 50:42Speaker 1: the league this.
- 50:42Speaker 3: Year, right? It ain't here, right?
- 50:46Speaker 1: Look at next year. Don't see them, right? Like Arch
- 50:50Speaker 1: Manning is not going to be in that draft. Our guy,
- 50:52Speaker 1: Nate Tyson, people have been on his neck about this.
- 50:53Speaker 1: He said, if you watch the film, Arch Manning is
- 50:56Speaker 1: the number one guy to come out in this draft.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I have not watched that much of late arch in
- 51:00Speaker 1: the course of this season, but I still feel confident saying,
- 51:03Speaker 1: even if he is, if even if he's been good,
- 51:06Speaker 1: if he's number one, this, this class ain't really hitting
- 51:08Speaker 1: on nothing. So like how long look at the Steelers,
- 51:11Speaker 1: the Steelers have been in that situation where it's been like, Hey,
- 51:13Speaker 1: ain't been no dude for us to take. So we
- 51:15Speaker 1: haven't really taken the guy. And now we've seen what
- 51:18Speaker 1: the results have been for them not having the quarterback.
- 51:20Speaker 3: So what do you do?
- 51:21Speaker 1: And I think the Vikings just looked and were like,
- 51:24Speaker 1: all right, we think we've got a guy who could
- 51:25Speaker 1: run the system. The problem is they got him and
- 51:27Speaker 1: they don't like him. It's not even about how good
- 51:29Speaker 1: he is. They don't like him.
- 51:32Speaker 2: So now we get to that redemptive story arc where,
- 51:35Speaker 2: you know, you always see those NBA teams who go, hey,
- 51:38Speaker 2: somebody's got to score points on this team until we
- 51:40Speaker 2: get ourselves a star, right?
- 51:42Speaker 3: Right.
- 51:43Speaker 2: You mentioned Sam Darnold. Are we going to start looking
- 51:46Speaker 2: at quarterbacks like, hey, like how pitching coaches looked at relievers, right?
- 51:50Speaker 2: Where it's like, hey, after that Tommy John, hey, I'm
- 51:52Speaker 2: going to call you in about a year and a
- 51:53Speaker 2: half and I know your elbow is going to be
- 51:55Speaker 2: where it's supposed to be and maybe even better. Like,
- 51:57Speaker 2: do we look at Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold and
- 51:59Speaker 2: all these guys? Does it speak to not only the
- 52:03Speaker 2: way quarterbacks are developed or lack thereof, but also how
- 52:09Speaker 2: we should be timing out you know, these coaching hires too.
- 52:13Speaker 2: Like how many coaches get hired where they have to
- 52:15Speaker 2: go through one year with a quarterback they just don't
- 52:18Speaker 2: rock with, right? And then to do it again with
- 52:22Speaker 2: a rookie, I don't know where.
- 52:29Speaker 2: I don't know where this market is going to settle at.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Who are the quarterbacks that you believe in in a
- 52:35Speaker 2: way that you believed in Aaron Rodgers? Like Josh Allen,
- 52:39Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes, but these are now the senior dudes, right?
- 52:42Speaker 2: Dak Prescott are the senior cats. How many dudes in
- 52:46Speaker 2: year six? We're still questioning Trevor Lawrence. I was told
- 52:50Speaker 2: he was the can't miss, this is what a quarterback
- 52:52Speaker 2: should look like.
- 52:53Speaker 1: It, it, it appears to be beginning by the way,
- 52:56Speaker 1: if last week was at a granted, they were playing
- 52:57Speaker 1: against air, right. They were playing against the jets, but
- 53:01Speaker 1: like we are, but no, you're right.
- 53:02Speaker 3: So let's think about this.
- 53:03Speaker 2: Right. So do you have to hold on to coaches longer?
- 53:07Speaker 1: Right. Well, I'm asking you this, let's make 2019 the
- 53:11Speaker 1: cutoff as in you entered the league in 2019.
- 53:14Speaker 3: Okay.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 53:15Speaker 3: I'm looking at the list of teams.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Now, and it was going to go through quarterbacks and
- 53:20Speaker 1: I would do my best on remembering who's who.
- 53:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 53:23Speaker 1: But Tua is 2020 draft. We don't feel good about him, right?
- 53:30Speaker 1: Drake May, as of this moment, we do, right? Justin
- 53:34Speaker 1: Fields got splinters in his keister. They put him on
- 53:37Speaker 1: the oak. Jackson Dart, he keeps getting his egg scrambled,
- 53:42Speaker 1: number one. But number two, I'm not as sold as
- 53:45Speaker 1: other people anyway. I give him an incomplete.
- 53:47Speaker 2: Right. I think that's going to be like a Jeff
- 53:49Speaker 2: Garcia kind of career arc where it's like there's going
- 53:51Speaker 2: to be five years where it looks crazy. But, you know,
- 53:55Speaker 2: there's going to be too much rough and tumble football
- 53:57Speaker 2: going on for you to sustain.
- 53:59Speaker 3: Jalen hurts. We don't know what to do. We still don't.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Right.
- 54:04Speaker 3: We just I think we need to talk about it.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Right. We all everybody knows what it is or they don't.
- 54:08Speaker 3: And that's the point. Jaden Daniels, we're going to have
- 54:11Speaker 3: to see if he can stay healthy.
- 54:13Speaker 2: We mentioned this before. We had this conversation coming into
- 54:17Speaker 2: this year, and Commanders fans still on my ass about it.
- 54:20Speaker 2: I'm like, hey, man. He's lighting the ass. He swallowed
- 54:24Speaker 2: in Ryan Tannehill, and Ryan Tannehill was getting broken up
- 54:27Speaker 2: in the NFL.
- 54:28Speaker 3: Yeah. Joe Burrow sounds like he doesn't want to do
- 54:31Speaker 3: this anymore.
- 54:32Speaker 2: For them.
- 54:33Speaker 3: He sounds....
- 54:37Speaker 1: We all we all know i remember when we said
- 54:40Speaker 1: that when he got drafted and people were getting mad
- 54:43Speaker 1: at us and we're like bruh y'all must be young
- 54:46Speaker 1: you might not want to play there right and he
- 54:48Speaker 1: he he looked so bad oh he looked bad in
- 54:52Speaker 1: the game and sad in the presser and that is
- 54:54Speaker 1: a terrible sign um.
- 54:57Speaker 2: All that swag On a losing-ass team in Cincinnati. All
- 55:00Speaker 2: of it.
- 55:00Speaker 3: All of it.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Now, your division got all the post-2019s. You got Caleb Williams,
- 55:05Speaker 1: you got Jordan Love, and you got J.J.
- 55:06Speaker 3: McCarthy. I think we've run through all of those guys. C.J. Stroud,
- 55:09Speaker 3: I still feel good about.
- 55:11Speaker 2: Yeah. I think there's going to be a long span
- 55:14Speaker 2: of time where he is top-second-tier dude.
- 55:19Speaker 3: Yes. A guy who could win an MVP. like in
- 55:23Speaker 3: the way Matt Ryan.
- 55:24Speaker 1: Won an MVP.
- 55:24Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 55:25Speaker 1: Like, I mean, Matthew Stafford, two-time pro bowler Matthew Stafford
- 55:30Speaker 1: is probably going to win an MVP this year and
- 55:32Speaker 1: get to his third pro bowl. People like, like I
- 55:34Speaker 1: hate on Stafford when I compare him to Carson Palmer,
- 55:37Speaker 1: but I'm like, no, no, no, no, no. Comparing three-time
- 55:40Speaker 1: pro bowler Carson Palmer to two-time pro bowler Matthew Stafford
- 55:43Speaker 1: does not feel that all the talent in the world
- 55:47Speaker 1: played for teams that you thought weren't that good for
- 55:49Speaker 1: a stretch.
- 55:49Speaker 3: So forth and so on.
- 55:50Speaker 2: Anyway, I'm belaboring the point.
- 55:52Speaker 1: Daniel Jones is a 2019, and he's still Daniel Jones.
- 55:55Speaker 3: Eddie Torres, Achilles. Carson Palmer. Not Carson Palmer. Jacksonville. Trevor Lawrence.
- 56:00Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrence.
- 56:01Speaker 3: It's getting there. Cam Ward.
- 56:04Speaker 1: I mean, bless his heart, man. I don't even know
- 56:05Speaker 1: what to say. Michael Pinnock's even before another injury, I
- 56:10Speaker 1: was not sold. Bryce Young, I am not sold. Tyler Shuck,
- 56:14Speaker 1: I am not sold. Bo Nix looked great on Sunday.
- 56:18Speaker 1: I am not sold.
- 56:19Speaker 2: Me neither. I can't, I can't. Yeah, yeah. The Bo
- 56:24Speaker 2: Nix thing is like, Bo Nix is going to mess
- 56:25Speaker 2: around and win the Super Bowl. I'm going to be like,
- 56:26Speaker 2: you know what? Do it again. Like Eli Manning, right?
- 56:31Speaker 2: Where it's like, you know what? Hey, do it again.
- 56:33Speaker 3: In fact, I need a third one. I need a
- 56:36Speaker 3: third one from him. But Justin Herbert, still not sold.
- 56:40Speaker 2: See, that's the guy that I am higher on than
- 56:43Speaker 2: most people that I hear. I hear Nick Wright talk
- 56:46Speaker 2: about Justin Herbert and it makes me, it's hilarious because
- 56:49Speaker 2: you think that he has it out for him and
- 56:51Speaker 2: he's got some salient points. But I just see Justin
- 56:54Speaker 2: Herbert and I'm like, that should be, that has no.
- 56:58Speaker 3: Should be, should be, should be.
- 57:00Speaker 1: Also part of it with Justin Herbert is, you know,
- 57:03Speaker 1: our boy Parko. is a big Justin Herbert guy. And therefore,
- 57:07Speaker 1: Nick is a little obligated.
- 57:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 57:10Speaker 3: Division, you know, all that.
- 57:11Speaker 1: Kyler Murray, they're done with that at the Cardinals. I'll
- 57:14Speaker 1: be very curious to see where he turns up. If
- 57:16Speaker 1: I'm the Steelers, I take him. If I am the Giants,
- 57:20Speaker 1: anybody that doesn't have a quarterback, you could do a
- 57:23Speaker 1: lot worse than Kyle.
- 57:24Speaker 2: How long are the Steelers going to play that game
- 57:26Speaker 2: of we're just going to get a veteran quarterback?
- 57:28Speaker 1: Where else are they going to get a quarterback from?
- 57:30Speaker 1: That's just what we're talking about. Are they going to
- 57:31Speaker 1: get Diego or Francisco Mendoza?
- 57:33Speaker 2: But don't you have to restart a franchise every once
- 57:36Speaker 2: in a while? They tried it with Kitty Pickett.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Oh, they did.
- 57:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Small hands.
- 57:41Speaker 1: They've already tried the I guess we'll go get one
- 57:43Speaker 1: now program. I think getting Kyler Murray is much different
- 57:49Speaker 1: than getting Aaron Rodgers or getting Russell Wilson or getting
- 57:52Speaker 1: Justin Fields.
- 57:54Speaker 2: Yeah, but if you get Kyler Murray, prepare for Mike
- 57:56Speaker 2: Tomlin to retire.
- 57:58Speaker 1: Yeah, well, the problem is, you know, nobody likes him
- 58:02Speaker 1: for whatever that's worth. Brock Purdy.
- 58:06Speaker 3: And Mac Jones.
- 58:09Speaker 2: Listen, Kyle Shanahan at some point, and we're going to
- 58:12Speaker 2: be like, hey, this... His daddy made running backs. This
- 58:17Speaker 2: man has made quarterbacks in a way that I still
- 58:20Speaker 2: don't believe. The 49ers being 10-4 is one of those
- 58:23Speaker 2: things where I'm like, how does this happen? Why is
- 58:26Speaker 2: this happening? And is the NFL product this year better
- 58:28Speaker 2: than the NBA? Because I can't see it.
- 58:31Speaker 1: Here's my problem with Kyle Shanahan, man. I don't want
- 58:36Speaker 1: no coach so wedded to his system that he think.
- 58:40Speaker 3: Here's how he like quarterbacks.
- 58:42Speaker 1: I think I've talked about this on the pod before,
- 58:44Speaker 1: but if not, I'm going to have to edit this.
- 58:46Speaker 1: But those of you who know the routine will know
- 58:48Speaker 1: what I'm talking about. And you know the routine too,
- 58:51Speaker 1: you being a Chicago guy. He like him like Robin
- 58:54Speaker 1: Harris like him.
- 58:55Speaker 2: Why?
- 58:56Speaker 1: Because he could just be like, Robin Harris say he
- 58:59Speaker 1: like an ugly woman because he just come in the
- 59:00Speaker 1: house and be.
- 59:01Speaker 3: Like, hey, I'm going to the moon.
- 59:04Speaker 1: I'll be back in a couple of days. Say pretty
- 59:06Speaker 1: woman got too many questions. She just be like, oh yeah,
- 59:08Speaker 1: I'm going to the moon. I'll be back in a
- 59:09Speaker 1: couple of days. She just be like, well, you be careful.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Right?
- 59:12Speaker 3: That's Kyle Shanahan.
- 59:13Speaker 1: Nah, he like, nah, you don't, he don't necessarily like
- 59:15Speaker 1: him ugly, but he like him like, like a slice
- 59:18Speaker 1: of white bread.
- 59:19Speaker 3: Like that's just, that's, that's, that's how he like him.
- 59:21Speaker 3: You don't want no hot sauce on it.
- 59:23Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 59:24Speaker 3: Just, just give him that.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Slice of white bread if you just do exactly what
- 59:27Speaker 1: he say then eventually he get tired of white bread
- 59:29Speaker 1: and then he go put a little spice on it
- 59:31Speaker 1: then he's like man y'all go get me another piece
- 59:32Speaker 1: of that white bread and then you get right back
- 59:35Speaker 1: to eating that white bread that wonder bread that's what
- 59:37Speaker 1: he about um and if you.
- 59:41Speaker 2: Leave you and if you leave you you're good by
- 59:43Speaker 2: the way.
- 59:44Speaker 3: Right, but then he go pay $ 50 million for the
- 59:46Speaker 3: Wonder Bread.
- 59:47Speaker 1: And Ryan is telling me that, yes, in fact, I
- 59:49Speaker 1: have done this before. But still, it works in line
- 59:52Speaker 1: with this discussion.
- 59:53Speaker 3: But you're right.
- 59:55Speaker 1: The star's younger than Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. Just
- 59:58Speaker 1: keep it in mind, Joe Burrow is older than Lamar Jackson.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: So we think we may have it with Jaden Daniels,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: but he's a little light in the keister. We think
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: we may have it with Drake May. We think we
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: may have it with Caleb Williams, right? But it's a
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: lot of time for it to go off the rails
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: with those cats.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: And how easily or quickly did it happen with the
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: other folks that we've seen? Like, we knew Patrick Mahomes
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: as Patrick Mahomes, you know, at the end of that
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: first year where it was like, oh, okay, this is
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: what you were sitting behind. All right, this is what
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: you own. This is a gold mine, right? Like, how
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: many guys did it take two or three years for
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: us to– four years for us to be like, eh,
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: that second contract for it to be like, eh, I
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: don't know. Well, Josh Allen– The Stefan Diggs year was what?
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: The third year?
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: Year three. Year three.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: But that's a weird year because it was the pandemic
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: year or whatever it was. But those first two years,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: this was not certain. It was not certain at that point.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson, he hit it pretty quick. Like I think
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: we all agree on that one.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: I mean, but then you have guys like Tua and
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Justin Herbert where it looked okay early.
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: And then it wasn't long before we were like, I
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: don't know.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: I was never sold on the Tua thing, whether it
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: be the stature, whether it be the arm strength or
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: the overall demeanor. I always thought that, one, he was
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: a little bit too deferential. Two, if you can't command
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: the way that you got to command in those professional settings,
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: What's going to happen when the seas get a little choppy?
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: I was never really... head-on, this Tua thing is going
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: to be one of those top five, top six quarterbacks
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: for the long haul. But like you said, right now
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: in college, I was told that Cade Klubnick and all
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: these other cats were going to be great at the
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: top of the season. And I watch even the Lenore
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: Sellers kid. There's a whole bunch of tape where it's like, man,
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: this man is outstanding. This man is amazing. I guess
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: I've been watching college football in a way in the
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: 80s and the 90s where if you was that dude,
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: it was going to jump off the screen and you
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: were going to lift teams that wasn't shit for, you know,
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: at least a couple of years. There were so many
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: quarterbacks in college football this year where I'm like, man,
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: what are NFL teams going to do? You're going to
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: have to go through the retreads. You're going to have
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: to find, you know, JJ McCarthy. I believe in you
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: the second time around, you know, you're going to have
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: to go, you know, kick the tires on Anthony. Like
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: this is why the Anthony Richardson thing is so wild
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: because with all the things that have happened in you know,
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: the orbital bone fracture and taking yourself out the game. Man,
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: I promise you, two years from now, whenever that deal
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: is up, a year from now, somebody's going to be like, hey, man,
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: would you like to play football with that body you got?
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: Oh, you know who's about to ask him if he'd
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: like to play football with that body he got next year?
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: The Indianapolis Colts. That's who.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: You think Phillip Rivers' old ass coming back next year?
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: I don't think he's coming back, but I can't– All I'm.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: Saying is this.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: They say Anthony Richardson is ready to practice again. And
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: you know they don't want that. They don't want to
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: play him.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: When a commodity has been beaten down like that, can
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: you build it back up in the same building?
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: They are going to have no other choice.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Like, this is, I mean, look, I saw Kirk Cousins
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: be terrible and get seeded and then come back and
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: turn into a decent player within the same spot. Like,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: the thing that always got me about the Kyle Shanahan
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: loves Kirk Cousins thing is, buddy, you benched him too.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: He was terrible when he played for you.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: Right. Right?
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: And then it came back around.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: So, I mean, they're not going to have any other
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: choice for the Colts next year. Like, I don't think
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: Daniel Jones plays next year. And if he does, he
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: needs to be able to move and he's got a
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: devastating mobility injury.
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: I mean, I think it's just cook.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: This is why it is great to say this, and
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: you need to be able to capitalize on these moments
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: because you don't know when they're going to happen again.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: It is great to be in the position as a
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Chicago Bears fan where the quarterback position is as stable
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: as it is right now. I don't know when I'm
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: going to be able to say that again, brother.
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: You're so nervous. You think you might not be able
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: to say it in that week.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: Hey, listen. The wow freestyle, Kendrick Lamar. Oh, you say
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: you got a bad one. I can tell you never
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: had one. This entire city. This entire city has not
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: walked around with a bad one on their arm in forever.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: You feel me? Forever. You're talking about Robin Harris. We've
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: been working in the factory where, you know, like, hey, man,
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: one eye is enough. You know what I mean? Like,
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: come on to the crib. $ 3 Hennessy night. You feel me? Like,
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: we've been loading up on good eating, but, you know,
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: there ain't no fine dining when it comes to the
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: quarterback position. A lot of stews. But not a lot
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: of lobster.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: That is an amazing line.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: I have to remember that. You know the vibes, man.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: It's been tough. So when you see Bears fans, like
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: there's a Bears den, the family den on the south
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: side of Chicago. There's an entire group and a contingent
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: of Black Bears fans that are rejoicing on a Sunday
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: in a way that We've been trying to for so long, right?
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: So long. This ain't the Sox. This ain't the Bulls.
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: This ain't the, you know, worry about the Blackhawks and
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: the Cubs because, you know, we don't matriculate to those
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: areas as much as we can and should. But, man,
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: under this umbrella with this gang, shit. We've been looking
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: at a lot of mediocre for a long time. So
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: for it to feel this way, for us to be
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: on a precipice of, like, people talking about a quarterback
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: in that manner, man, it feels good not to have
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: to watch the drafts or watch college football in a
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: way where you're scouting quarterbacks every goddamn week.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: Good for you, fellas. Good for y'all.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: Yeah, man. Good for you.
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: Good for you.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Thank you, man. I appreciate you.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: That is Jason Goff. Check him out in Chicago. Just
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: be happy.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: Walk around happy, baby.
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: There we go. I appreciate you, brother.
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: Always, man. Thank you so much.
