- 0:01Recording And now I can start with I hate you, Matt.
- 0:05Yeah, I know. Yeah, you got to go to PAX East.
- 0:09I did very. Jealous again?
- 0:11Yeah, you said my name. Because we keep forgetting to do
- 0:14this. We need to do this.
- 0:15I'm Matt. That's.
- 0:16Luke. I'm Luke, yes.
- 0:19OK, you keep forgetting to do that.
- 0:20It's confusing to people apparently.
- 0:22Apparently we sound the same to people, which fucking baffles me
- 0:26because I really don't think so, but.
- 0:28I'm shocked by this. Welcome to multiple Nerdgasm, a
- 0:36comedy show about all things nerdy.
- 0:43Yeah, I feel like especially people tell me here, oh, you
- 0:48don't have an accent. It's like, yeah, because that's
- 0:50because I'm talking to you. Actually, we had this
- 0:53conversation with some people I met on the weekend and packs
- 0:56because they didn't notice at first that I had an accent.
- 0:59And then I think too, once it comes up, I think I go, Oh yeah,
- 1:03I do have an accent, mate. Whereas I know that when I'm
- 1:07over there, I'm picked up having an accent straight away.
- 1:10Yeah, but they don't know where you're from.
- 1:12No. No.
- 1:13No, I get confused. I'm.
- 1:15The same but. Like even when I was in Vietnam,
- 1:18it was like England's I got done for South African.
- 1:22Oh yeah, Yep. There's something wrong.
- 1:26New Zealand. New Zealand.
- 1:29Some New Zealand accents are close, some are not.
- 1:30Though if it's a very thick New Zealand accent I feel like it
- 1:33should be fucking obvious. Yeah, the only thing you need to
- 1:35check is, is what they call micro anesky and a cooler.
- 1:43That's a cooler. That's a chili bin.
- 1:45Yeah, chili bin. Chili bin and matchbox cars.
- 1:50They call them Dinkies. They call them Dinkies in New
- 1:54Zealand. Dinkies in New Zealand?
- 1:55Yep. There you go.
- 1:57What do you call a drinking fountain?
- 2:01A bubbler. Yeah, see, that wouldn't get you
- 2:02far here though, because in Rhode Island they call them
- 2:05bubblers too. I didn't realise.
- 2:06No, that yeah, we share that for some reason.
- 2:09Rhode Island. No one else, just Rhode Island.
- 2:12I mean, could be a New England thing.
- 2:14Could be. I don't know what I expect.
- 2:17Well. It's sort of hard because
- 2:18America is so different. Just when it's split up like the
- 2:21yeah different every state you go.
- 2:24Yeah, Australia is a bit too, but not, I feel, not to that
- 2:27degree, no. No, it's.
- 2:29Wild differences here. Yeah, state to state.
- 2:31It's very funny. But yeah, I did go to PAX.
- 2:35I went to PAX East Ohio. My volume is too loud.
- 2:37I think I'm peeking out. I'm going to turn me down a
- 2:39little bit. Go and.
- 2:41PAX East. Tell me, how was it?
- 2:44It's very good. General vibes.
- 2:46Check dash, I call it that. Maybe I shouldn't say that.
- 2:51Are you a millennial? Yeah, it sounds like I'm trying
- 2:53to be younger than I am. No, no.
- 2:55OK, I had a nice time. That's not good.
- 2:57That's what you want. Yeah, it's, it feels smaller
- 3:04still. I've said this before.
- 3:06Yeah, it feels smaller than it used to, especially, you know,
- 3:09we used to travel from Australia to the US, which, I mean, you're
- 3:12going to do it again at some point.
- 3:14But yeah, we used to do that often to go to packs until we
- 3:17had our own packs, and then it was kind of slightly less
- 3:20incentive to do that. Yeah.
- 3:22And that was because you had huge games.
- 3:26Yes, at these events. And that's not so much the case
- 3:30anymore. No, they're sort of gone.
- 3:31I know. Did you have Nintendo there?
- 3:33Nintendo seems the one that's still hanging around.
- 3:35Nintendo was there, They had Super Mario Wonder and two new
- 3:39Pokémon things that I was like, OK, I don't play Pokémon games,
- 3:42but yeah, OK, cool. They're big lines for them.
- 3:44Obviously I'm in the wrong. I just wasn't.
- 3:46Interested. No, it's the same at PAX
- 3:48Australia. The lines are very long for the
- 3:51Nintendo booths and it's just not for me.
- 3:54Yeah, Super Mario wonder looks good, but I'll just play it.
- 3:57I don't need to yeah preview it, but but like yes, a smaller
- 4:02scale, no Xbox, no PlayStation yeah, not even tiny build this
- 4:07year. OK.
- 4:09Which is Oh no, they've been confused with.
- 4:11Yeah, they've been making an appearance of few of the past.
- 4:13Just packed Australia they've been.
- 4:14Like half the show floor, like a couple of times Blumhouse games
- 4:18with their their biggest thing. I think the Halloween game is
- 4:25coming out. They had a big thing that looks
- 4:28like the the house the is. It going to be like one of these
- 4:32one the the four type of things. Yeah, it doesn't interest me.
- 4:37No, like I played the Halloween add on for yeah, I played the
- 4:45app packs actually a couple of years ago and it was fun in that
- 4:48it was very cool when the music started yes and he would like
- 4:53walk out from behind something you hope for.
- 4:55That was a cool moment. But the those games in general?
- 4:58Not for me. I played them like once a year
- 5:01and it's because my niece plays them.
- 5:03And at Christmas time I'll install it and play.
- 5:06It's. Yeah, it's not, it's not for me.
- 5:08I I don't get it. I'm evidently pretty good at it,
- 5:11though. Oh.
- 5:12OK. But I just good not for me,
- 5:16'cause you're gonna play with people.
- 5:17I. Mean it looks fine like you know
- 5:19yeah I've watched some people play I just didn't I couldn't be
- 5:21you know I I knew it wasn't for me so I was like I'm.
- 5:23Not yeah. The whole thing is you need to
- 5:24organise, to play with people you know, to really get the most
- 5:27enjoyment out of it. Yes, and we're old and we don't
- 5:29have time for that. No.
- 5:31So not at all. And also, I guess as you get
- 5:33older, you learn like, no, no, no.
- 5:35My tastes are set in stone at this point.
- 5:37I know I'm not gonna like that. So.
- 5:39So I looked, I wandered around, I looked for things that I knew
- 5:41I would enjoy, and I found some I will talk about.
- 5:44Excellent, I made some friends. As I said, shout out in
- 5:49particular to Echo and DJFCI. Don't know DJFCS real name.
- 5:53I know Echo's real name. I'm not going to say it though,
- 5:54just in case he doesn't want me to do that.
- 5:57Yep. I don't know my new.
- 5:59Friends from Bobo. Bobo is the Boston Online
- 6:03Broadcaster Association. Make sure I say that correctly.
- 6:07And they are like Twitch partners and stuff from the
- 6:11area, roughly the area, Yep. I'm not going to say where
- 6:14exactly they're from. I'm gonna guess.
- 6:15Listen, Boston. That's where we were.
- 6:19But I was at the Voodoo Ranger booth and what the fuck is going
- 6:23on? Yeah, Voodoo Ranger booth was
- 6:24great, but I So Jenna has been in Romania, as you probably
- 6:28know, don't know. The witnesses know that she was
- 6:33arriving back on Friday. Yeah, I was at PAX already.
- 6:37It's a big ass to go from a trip like that to PAX.
- 6:41She made it most of the time, so we.
- 6:46So I went to PAX on Friday, wandered around, did some stuff,
- 6:51and then I was like, OK, it's getting closer to the time when
- 6:53I've got to go meet her, the station.
- 6:57So I am. So let's go have a couple of
- 7:00beers at the video Ranger. Yeah.
- 7:04And so I'd stayed by myself and checking my phone, doing things,
- 7:09socials, whatnot. And yeah, they were kind enough
- 7:14to approach me and engage me or Echo in particular came and
- 7:17engaged me in conversation. And then we ended up talking for
- 7:21I don't even know how long. The place was fucking empty.
- 7:23When when we eventually left, we were talking and I turned around
- 7:27and went, oh, there's no one here.
- 7:29That's what I like about PAX. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:32You can't just strike. Always be good people.
- 7:34Yeah. So anyway, shout to those guys.
- 7:36Yeah, it was awesome meeting you and hope to see you again.
- 7:40Yeah. And check out the Boston Online
- 7:47Broadcasters Association. Boba.
- 7:50Broadcast Boba. Yeah, check out Boba.
- 7:52Check out links in the show Not Yeah Games.
- 7:57Yes. I played some games.
- 7:59Anything interesting? Pax Rising?
- 8:02No, just. Yeah, Pax Rising great had a few
- 8:06things. I think Noor comes out.
- 8:07Noor is a game I played at PAX Rising that I liked.
- 8:10It's like a Metroidvania style game where you play as a
- 8:12dinosaur. I've leaked it here in the show.
- 8:14Stop the band. That's gua gua.
- 8:18This is Noor. Noor.
- 8:22Coming soon? I thought they said coming very
- 8:26soon but I don't see a date on the steam page.
- 8:30So. I will.
- 8:32I will leave that to them to announce that.
- 8:36We're not announcing it here first.
- 8:38No, it was very good. It's like, you know, I like
- 8:41these games, the animation and the and the the like.
- 8:44The art style in this is appealing to me.
- 8:47It looks fun. I played it a little bit on the
- 8:50Steam Deck that they had there. Yep.
- 8:51Which was double duty because I got to play a Steam Deck, but I
- 8:54don't get to do that very often. Yeah, it's cool.
- 8:56You're a Dino. It's Metroidvania.
- 8:58You kill enemies and then you eat them.
- 9:00And then you can when you eat stuff, you can then power up and
- 9:04heal yourself. And also.
- 9:07Yeah, it's got boss fights. Yeah.
- 9:10You know all the things that you.
- 9:11Know it does look very colorful and fun.
- 9:14Yeah, yeah, it's quite like you can see the animation, the
- 9:18animation style, it's very good. It's not like it looks very
- 9:20polished and. Say a little red dinosaur.
- 9:23Yeah, you can play basketball. Yes.
- 9:27I'm just looking at the screenshots.
- 9:30So yeah, that was a good one. PAX Rising was very small.
- 9:34I don't know if it's always small or it just, I don't know
- 9:36what's going on with me this year.
- 9:37So the other thing is they did a comic about this.
- 9:40They did a strip about it. Penny Arcade do not.
- 9:44They did not do any of the Q&A panels this year.
- 9:48For the first time, they were doing them without Mike.
- 9:52It's just Jerry and and Chris Straub, which was different, but
- 9:57still good because this is funny and it was, you know, it was
- 10:00fun. Mike was there this year.
- 10:03Well, OK. But they did not do a any Q&A's.
- 10:08They did the make a strip and then that was it.
- 10:10And I thought that was weird and then they but then they did a
- 10:11comic just in the last couple of weeks about how somebody calling
- 10:18911 saying hello, help, my friend just found out what the P
- 10:21and A in Pakistan for and he's collapsed onto the floor.
- 10:25And they're like, they're on the phone.
- 10:27They're like, what does the PA stand for?
- 10:28And they're 6 penny Arcade. And they're like, you mean that
- 10:30irreverent comic from the 90s and 2000s?
- 10:34Yes, that's what the the convention was half about when
- 10:37we went. Well, yeah, but yeah, they don't
- 10:39come to Australia anymore. Neither of them.
- 10:43No. Oh, I didn't realise that.
- 10:46Yeah, they haven't. Been it's a long trip.
- 10:48Yeah, it's a long trip and Australia is sort of turned into
- 10:51its own little thing. And I think they are sort of
- 10:56stepping aside because the show, I mean, as we learned, I think
- 11:02Jenna and I and I forget who was with us, learned the year that
- 11:07Markiplier was at PAX. We didn't know who the fuck
- 11:12Markiplier was, but they didn't know who the fuck Michael Jerry
- 11:15were. So we went to go into the main
- 11:18theatre and there's a huge line and we said, oh, is this the
- 11:20line for the Q&A? And then the guy was like, no,
- 11:22it's the line for Markiplier. You can just.
- 11:25You can head straight on in. Oh.
- 11:28Yes. It's changed a lot.
- 11:31Yeah, Markiplier, because I know he made a movie.
- 11:33Yes, that's why more we're the fools, all right?
- 11:36He's obviously big news now, but yeah, no fucking idea.
- 11:40I watched the movie. It wasn't.
- 11:42Yeah. It was like a horror movie,
- 11:44right? It was a horror movie, but I
- 11:46think there's a lot of the story missing if you haven't played
- 11:49the game. There's a game, I said.
- 11:51Yes, it's based on a game. I forget what game it's based
- 11:54on. Well, it's probably just the
- 11:55name of the movie, which I can't remember.
- 11:57But yeah, it's Iron Lung. Iron Lung.
- 12:01So yeah, I wasn't quite aware of what I was walking into at all,
- 12:05what was happening. So it gets it's packs just feels
- 12:09a bit different for that reason, because it's just that's always
- 12:12been a big part of it for me was like, first of all, interacting
- 12:17with those guys because they they walk around a bunch and and
- 12:21just seeing the those panels just because we were big fans of
- 12:24the comic. So I don't know it's.
- 12:26Just. It's just different that that's
- 12:28not a thing anymore, yeah. They're they're not really, it's
- 12:32still got their name. You know, I don't still ever get
- 12:34rid of the name. I think it's going to, it's
- 12:36still going to be. Called PAX.
- 12:37But like, like the people like the comic says, people don't
- 12:40know why it's called PAX. No, it's just called Pax.
- 12:44Pax. Yeah.
- 12:45So anyway, another game I really like the look of and I will link
- 12:53in the shows again is it's called Another Pint and this is
- 12:58a Tavern Yodi Medieval like role-playing game, Tavern style
- 13:04management game. OK.
- 13:07Where you literally make it's got really in depth character
- 13:10creation where you make your character and then you run and
- 13:16be build out and run a Tavern in a, you know, role-playing
- 13:20fantasy setting. You can choose like what it
- 13:23looks like and you know, like all the details about, you know,
- 13:27you design your Tavern and then you you run the Tavern like you
- 13:32pour drinks and stuff like that. And this is all at night when
- 13:35everyone's coming in. And then during the day you go
- 13:38out into this kind of smallish world area and do quests and get
- 13:44resources and stuff to improve the Tavern.
- 13:46OK. And it just looks great.
- 13:50Like I really like the visual style of it.
- 13:53And I just think it's, yeah, it just seems really cool.
- 13:57It reminds me of the Bard, that sort of look.
- 14:03No, not the Bard. 'S tail.
- 14:05Bard's Tail. Yeah, yeah, and also like a
- 14:09better looking version of Balding Gate 2.
- 14:13Yeah, like baldness Gate 3 perhaps?
- 14:16Yes. I don't know.
- 14:18I haven't played it yet, so I've got to go back to what I know.
- 14:21Yeah. No, no, it is.
- 14:22It's like an isometric sort of. So the game, yeah.
- 14:27But yeah, it's great. It looks really fun.
- 14:29It they are from Bulgaria to Bulgarian development team,
- 14:33which I said, oh, cool. And he said no, not really.
- 14:36And I said, well, it's interesting.
- 14:38It's interesting to me, yes. And I think I've been a game
- 14:40developer from Bulgaria before. So no, I think that would be a
- 14:43first. Yeah, yeah, he was.
- 14:45He was really nice. So yeah, I'm going to check this
- 14:47out. You can Wish.
- 14:48Listed on Steam now. No release date yet.
- 14:53No. But the discord is up and
- 14:55running. You can join that you can wish
- 14:58this on Steam and they have had via the discord kind of testing
- 15:05weekends where you can check it out.
- 15:07But I don't, I have no, I'm not Privy to any of their plans
- 15:10regarding that in future. So that don't tell them I said
- 15:14you could play it or whatever, but.
- 15:15Tell them. Tell them you can tell.
- 15:18Them. He's not going to give a shit.
- 15:21Yeah, cool game. I liked it.
- 15:26And what else have we got here? Oh yeah.
- 15:28Have you ever seen this? Right.
- 15:29This is. I was like, baffled by this.
- 15:34Have you ever heard of the Omara scent display?
- 15:36Did they have ever had this at Paxos?
- 15:38I can't say no. So have you ever wanted to smell
- 15:45a game? While you I've I thought this
- 15:49was just one of those things that AI made-up that was like.
- 15:52No, this is real. I've seen it.
- 15:54I've seen it. Oh God.
- 15:57So this is interesting. So we were a little disappointed
- 16:02because I feel like the version of this that I would want is not
- 16:07quite what this is. It's cool.
- 16:08Anyway, so this is literally a device.
- 16:11If you click through, you'll see it.
- 16:12That thing, that thing with the green looking eyes on it.
- 16:15Yep, that's a device. And you put it on a stand like
- 16:18this mic. It sits here in front of you.
- 16:20And then? And the way it works currently
- 16:23is it's got room for, I think he said.
- 16:27Six cartridges maybe might be more than that.
- 16:31I think it's at least 6 cent like smells in it.
- 16:37OK. As you're playing the game, it
- 16:39can release. Smell.
- 16:40So when you walk into a forest, it'll sort of give you a forest.
- 16:44No, no, you. All you could do that, that's
- 16:47what I want. I want ambient smell that's what
- 16:51Jenna. The first question Jenna had was
- 16:52like, oh, is it like an ambient thing?
- 16:54And he was like, well, no, actually it's not the way that
- 16:56it's been implemented in everything so far is that it's
- 17:00part of gameplay. It's.
- 17:02Like a. Gameplay thing, not an ambience
- 17:05thing. So for example, one of the games
- 17:08they had on was a game where you have to smell cups to detect
- 17:13poison. Well, OK.
- 17:15And so the smell indicates what's in the cup kind of thing,
- 17:20which is like, oh, OK, that's not really what I would want.
- 17:24I would more want to be a. Very niche market for like.
- 17:27If I'm playing cyberpunk and I walk into a like a a noodle
- 17:30restaurant in. Yeah, night.
- 17:32City, I wanna smell the food and the you know, and the beer and
- 17:37the like that's. What I was thinking, Oh, that.
- 17:39'D be cool. It can't do that.
- 17:41Can't do that. Yeah.
- 17:42Because I think it'd be awesome if like, yeah, you're just
- 17:44walking around and you go from like a forest to snow or
- 17:48something. And that just changed the way.
- 17:50Yeah, you smell like the flowers and the and the.
- 17:52Yeah, yeah, I think. I mean, maybe one day.
- 17:56Yeah, it's still going to be very early technology.
- 17:59Yeah, and it's, I mean, and watching people play it, they
- 18:02like they have to lean into to, to smell and stuff like that.
- 18:07It's, it's cool. Don't get me wrong.
- 18:08It's very impressive and I feel like maybe one day we'll get
- 18:12that kind of stuff that we're talking about.
- 18:14Yeah. It's just that when I first saw
- 18:16it that that was immediately what I thought was that like, I
- 18:19will just smell the environment that I'm in.
- 18:21Yeah, no. No, it's not not that flexible.
- 18:26There is one thing I'm happy that I won't sell, like the the
- 18:29stench of death or anything. No, because that could make the
- 18:33stench of death less nauseating. And you kind of like, get a
- 18:37sense of it. Like they smell the the sulphur
- 18:40in Diablo. Yeah.
- 18:42And like, yeah. I think yeah, yeah, they're
- 18:44hanging. Around.
- 18:45Flesh, I think that, yeah, this I think is going to be very
- 18:48early on in their development, I would say.
- 18:53I mean, I'd never heard of it. So I guess yeah, we'll see.
- 18:56Hopefully it's successful and they do get more advanced
- 18:59because I think it's cool. But it's not quite what we want.
- 19:05No, I want for like when we're wandering around Elder Scrolls 6
- 19:11and we can smell the horse, we're already gone.
- 19:15Yeah, yeah. Or like if I'm playing Dune, you
- 19:19know, if I'm, if I'm out in the desert and I'm mining spice, I
- 19:23can smell them alone. But it'd be very hard and it
- 19:25just. Puts me into a literal trance.
- 19:27It'd be very hard to sort of do it for so many games.
- 19:32Well, that's what that's the thing.
- 19:33You can, you can. There's like AAI believe I think
- 19:40this is what he said. Don't go.
- 19:42OK, this is off my old man brain.
- 19:44Mm hmm. There's a like a base package of
- 19:46smells. Yeah, right.
- 19:47Or you can work with them to develop.
- 19:50A custom, yeah, but I think that's where it'll need to sort
- 19:53of go towards. Yeah, they get.
- 19:56But there's a limit to how many there can be in there.
- 19:59So it's not you can't just have everything and it and also
- 20:02they're not like dynamically blended or anything like.
- 20:05Yeah, it's not like it's, yeah, Taking the bit of this bit of
- 20:07that and making that it's no, you get this cartridge is this
- 20:10smell? Yeah, yeah.
- 20:11So far I think for the ambient stuff it's not much, almost,
- 20:14almost not much use. But yeah, but we'll see.
- 20:17For game, For gameplay stuff seems cool.
- 20:19Yeah. Yeah, so that was fun.
- 20:22Interesting. Yeah, I.
- 20:22Haven't seen that before. So I might say that maybe it
- 20:25might make an appearance at packed Oz.
- 20:28I do know that ticket sales for three day passes are already
- 20:30like 60% gone so. Yeah.
- 20:32Have they announced the dates for taxis next year already?
- 20:35I thought was interesting. Yeah, that.
- 20:37Was quick. Yeah, it's part of the the
- 20:41farewell update, the farewell e-mail.
- 20:43They already had the dates. So next year is the April 22nd
- 20:46to 25th. That's later in the year I.
- 20:48Could go for my birthday. Do it.
- 20:51Oh, I might. We could go for my birthday.
- 20:55Too late. Yes.
- 20:58Well, I have a think about it. I could meet Echo and I could
- 21:02complain about Voodoo Ranger not having lager.
- 21:06Yeah, yeah, those IPA. So if you don't know listeners,
- 21:10very Ranger make beer, usually Ipas, they maybe make other
- 21:16stuff, but the only stuff they have at this particular booth is
- 21:18Ipas. And traditionally, I've always
- 21:24found that they're very, very, very fucking strong.
- 21:27Like 12% strong as in like, you don't can't.
- 21:32You can't have too many of these.
- 21:33Yeah. Oh, you mean you shouldn't?
- 21:35They'll sneak up on you very quickly.
- 21:37That's my experience with them anyway.
- 21:39But they had a new flavour, a new beer this year.
- 21:42So I was drinking that and I think the other guys were
- 21:45drinking others, the ones that they've had before that.
- 21:49I was like, Oh yeah, I'll try this new one.
- 21:51So I was drinking that, they're drinking that.
- 21:52And then a certain point I realized I'm I'm a bit less
- 21:56messy than everybody else. Oh, and I was like, what's going
- 21:59on? So I looked at my can 6 1/2
- 22:01percent. Oh, a bit hard.
- 22:02What everyone else is drinking? Bastard.
- 22:04You tricked me. Yeah.
- 22:06So that explains it. I'm just, yeah, I, I know, I, I
- 22:09can drink lager. I know that IPA is just.
- 22:11They're too sweet for me I find. Yeah, that's fair.
- 22:14And these are like fruity. Yeah.
- 22:17Like they're they're intentionally like. 1st I'm a
- 22:19very bitter man. You are a bitter old man.
- 22:22Yes, fuck the world. Yep.
- 22:27So I'll go there and complain about them not having lager and
- 22:30drink something else and drink whatever's there anyway.
- 22:33Yeah, drink exactly whatever's got the highest percentage,
- 22:35because if you're going to choke it down, it might as well get
- 22:37you drunk. Exactly.
- 22:41Another thing that interested me quite a bit is the game Tank.
- 22:46This is a console that this guy just made.
- 22:53It's an 8 bit console, you know, in the style of the Ness.
- 22:57He he's incredibly nerdy and very smart.
- 23:01He was chatting to him about it. He is fucking into this.
- 23:06So he just was like, I'm just gonna make my own console.
- 23:10And he did. And it's all open source.
- 23:13So you can, if you have the ability, get from GitHub the
- 23:19schematics and files required to make this yourself.
- 23:24You can get this if you can get a circuit board printed.
- 23:27Yep, you know PCB way can do that for you or whatever.
- 23:31You can make one of these yourself.
- 23:33Just go 3D print it and. Yep.
- 23:36And then he also made the games for it.
- 23:39And so I, as somebody who wanted to be a game developer and has
- 23:42never actually made a game, and who sometimes thinks, oh, I
- 23:46think it'd be cool to make a game from scratch, but that's
- 23:49hard. So I'll probably end up, if I
- 23:51ever make one, I'll probably use Unity or Unreal or something.
- 23:53Yeah, he's gone fucking one step further than I ever would have.
- 23:56He's made the fucking hardware. See, I'm I'm looking at this and
- 23:59these all look like old games that I'm going to guess because
- 24:04I remember like back in the day, like Atari, you'd have the Atari
- 24:06games, you'd be there. They would run like crap.
- 24:09Sure, but now I played what's the one I played.
- 24:13It was called Ganymede and it was very smooth.
- 24:18Yeah. And that's what I'm thinking.
- 24:19Like it's sort of like an updated version where we'll play
- 24:22quite smooth because we're a lot further along than we were back
- 24:26in those days. Yeah.
- 24:29So if you want one of these things he's doing like a run of
- 24:32them. So then the case is obviously
- 24:34the case is 3D printed the circuit boards made by I don't
- 24:38know who I'm so I don't know who's printing them, but he's
- 24:40getting the mass. It's it's cheaper to get them
- 24:43done in bulk. So he's doing a run of them, but
- 24:46they are going to be like a couple 100 bucks.
- 24:48Yeah. So for for something like this,
- 24:51I think you've you have to be very into it.
- 24:54You need to be into it, yeah, because you're not going to be
- 24:56getting, you know, AAA games. On a no no basically.
- 25:01The. Support for this is going to
- 25:02come from you and the community. Correct.
- 25:06This is like a fun thing, so. But I mean, I just think it's
- 25:09incredible that they've done this.
- 25:12Like I Yeah. The sign said game tank home
- 25:17brew console and I was like fuck off.
- 25:21So yeah, no. Yeah, they buy cartridges, put
- 25:25them in play. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:28But it's also just got an emulator in there so you can
- 25:30search download them if you want.
- 25:32I mean, I know it sounds silly to be so like wow about it
- 25:34because obviously people made the, you know, the other all the
- 25:37consoles that we use. Yeah, but for just one guy, just
- 25:40to correct, I'm going to make this myself.
- 25:42I don't care more. Guy in 2020, whatever when he
- 25:45started this, I just think it's, I think it's such an interesting
- 25:48cool thing to have done is to be, you know what?
- 25:50I'm just going to, from scratch, make a fucking console from the
- 25:5380s. Yep, you've got the comparison
- 25:58to like the Atari links. Yeah, the Nintendo 2600.
- 26:02So it's. Yeah, yeah, very cool.
- 26:06And he's got the idea with this too, is that he's made SDKS for
- 26:10various programming languages to make it easier for people to
- 26:13make games for it. So if you know how to program in
- 26:15C, there's AC SDK. If you know Rust, there's a Rust
- 26:19SDK. If you know basic smart.
- 26:22If you know basic, there's a basic one as well.
- 26:24And so you don't need to know how to control the hardware or
- 26:26do any of that. There's libraries for all that,
- 26:28kind of if you know what I'm talking about, fine, but but
- 26:31it's just he's made it quite easy for you to get into.
- 26:34Programming. And he's just done this all by
- 26:36himself. I think some people help.
- 26:40I don't think. I think for example the Rust
- 26:41SDKI think was written by somebody else.
- 26:44OK, Yep. But so he's had some help.
- 26:46But the majority of it has just been getting the idea and just
- 26:49running with it. Yeah, God, I wish we could do
- 26:52that. Yeah, I know, I know.
- 26:54I don't have time for that. No, I would lose ideas.
- 26:58Yeah, I would definitely lose interest too hard.
- 27:01Yep. Very cool though I don't know
- 27:04why I'm coloring them in this colour.
- 27:05This is the after party colour, the spreadsheet items.
- 27:09You didn't call me out on that. Oh, I'm not going to.
- 27:13I thought you're trying something new.
- 27:15It's. Not like I'm going to get
- 27:16confused when I put the show notes together.
- 27:19No, because you're going to, you know, nature is going to be
- 27:22mostly packs. I would have got confused when
- 27:24we get to the after party. If you know what the after party
- 27:26is, keep listening. When I went to colour them and I
- 27:29went, I've already used the colour for the after party.
- 27:33Something else I wanted to mention is I've not seen these
- 27:36guys before. We've seen people have seen
- 27:37things like this before at Jack's.
- 27:39This one caught my attention. This is Guardians MH.
- 27:42This is a mental health awareness organization for
- 27:48gamers specifically. So we've talked about a few of
- 27:50these in the past just because I think these things are very
- 27:52cool, you know, because life's hard, people have concerns and
- 27:57mental health is very important. And the thing that they do that
- 28:01I thought was very cool is that they give out kits just for
- 28:06free, just for free. It's a kit and it's got
- 28:09resources like, you know, like guides and, and things to help
- 28:16you, but also like, like fidget things because you know, like
- 28:20people with, you know, ADHD or whatever, you know, fidget
- 28:23things are very helpful. I think that's where packed.
- 28:27Australia's done very good with that since it moved to the
- 28:30Melbourne Entertainment Centre. There's basically the second
- 28:32floor, which is for a lot of this stuff that are the
- 28:36Melbourne Exhibition Centre you've.
- 28:38Been there. Oh, it moved from the
- 28:40racecourse. Racecourse and probably a few
- 28:43years ago they didn't start introducing this.
- 28:44So on the 2nd floor there's sort of like a quiet area, like yeah,
- 28:48come relax. Like it's not us loud, have a
- 28:51chat, still play games, still do that and just try it.
- 28:54Down. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:57I'm just looking out for people's sort of mental health,
- 28:59like take a break. And then it also gives a lot of
- 29:01information about resources and things like that.
- 29:04Yeah, yeah. I just thought this was really
- 29:07cool that they have these. It's like literally a little
- 29:09pouch and then you could take. I didn't take one because I was
- 29:12like, leave them for people who might need them.
- 29:14I'm interested, but I'm happy to just know what's in there and
- 29:17talk about it. But I just think this is great.
- 29:21So yeah, you can check them out. Links in the show note.
- 29:27Yeah, I just thought it was a really cool, cool thing to do.
- 29:30Yes, Gunning's Mental Health is a non profit mental Health
- 29:34Organization that is focused on spreading mental health
- 29:36awareness and meaningful resources throughout the gaming
- 29:39space. Yeah, and they have an AI and
- 29:42not an AI. Geez.
- 29:43Not an AI. Oh, thank God.
- 29:45They have an app that is not an AII misspoke there to help you
- 29:51find resources if you're concerned and they connect you
- 29:54to real people. Just the the point my mouth was
- 29:58trying to make when it said the opposite.
- 30:01Because I would I would be very scared in directing someone to
- 30:04with mental health issues to AI. Correct.
- 30:07Yeah. Don't talk to fucking ChatGPT.
- 30:10No, talk to a talk to a person. Yes.
- 30:12I apologise for my mistake. And it's OK to talk to someone,
- 30:17just don't talk to AI about it. I'm going to blame my ADHD.
- 30:20My mouth started speaking before my brain had put together the
- 30:23words it wanted. Yeah, it's great.
- 30:29And the last thing I wanted to highlight is because I thought
- 30:34this was particularly interesting, Acquisitions
- 30:38Incorporated, another staple of PAX for me, an essential for me.
- 30:44If I go to PAX, I need to go to Acquisitions Incorporated.
- 30:46I've been doing that since 2011 was the first time I went.
- 30:52God, this website is old. I've been going to back
- 30:55positions incorporated since 2011 when Will Wheaton was still
- 30:58part of it. It's Will Wheaton, Scott Kurtz,
- 31:02Mike and Jerry. You know Chris Perkins was the
- 31:05DM Chris Perkins was the DM again today.
- 31:08OK. I was happy to see.
- 31:09I love Chris. Different though now because
- 31:16they don't play DND anymore. No, because DND tried to take a
- 31:20lot of money from them. So for those who don't know,
- 31:24Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford, the two DMS who
- 31:27usually run Acquisitions Inc, used to just be Chris Perkins.
- 31:30And then he stepped down. Jeremy Crawford took over, and
- 31:33then Chris Perkins kind of came back a bit because they both
- 31:36left Wizards of the Coast, Jeremy and Chris, and they have
- 31:42now joined the, was it Darington Press.
- 31:46They're basically in charge of Daggerhart, which is a new
- 31:49gaming system developed by a bunch of people, including
- 31:54Matthew Mercer. Oh, people will know he's the DM
- 31:58from Critical Role. Everybody fucking knows him.
- 31:59Everyone knows him, like I don't watch it but I know who he is
- 32:03still. So he was playing at this
- 32:06Acquisition Incorporated game, which I was like, oh, that's
- 32:08going to be good because he's fucking great.
- 32:10He's literally an actor, like, yeah, he.
- 32:13Yeah, so. He brings it to life.
- 32:15Yes, he's an excellent addition to the show because they're all
- 32:18very good performance, but they're playing Daggerheart and
- 32:21I've never seen Daggerheart. I know what it is.
- 32:23I've heard of it, but I've never played it and I've never seen
- 32:26it. And so this was particularly
- 32:27interesting. It's very different, especially
- 32:31the way they, I don't know whether they were doing it a
- 32:34particular way. Maybe this is just how it is.
- 32:35It's very different. It's very player centric in
- 32:42that, as I understand it, I've read the full rules, I skimmed
- 32:46the rules and I I observed the game.
- 32:49It seems like the DM only does that.
- 32:53You have like fear points on the top of the DM screen.
- 32:57Chris had, he has to spend those to do stuff.
- 33:01He moves the story along like when you're in battle, he spends
- 33:05those to to do things. You don't have initiative, you
- 33:09don't have like an order, a turn order.
- 33:12Yep. You just, everybody just kind of
- 33:15does something during a round of combat.
- 33:18And as I understand it in the rules, it can either be left to
- 33:23you to figure it out, like if you're all kind of able to do
- 33:28that, or if you're not. If you have someone who's
- 33:33particularly introverted or you have somebody who's too
- 33:36extroverted, you can do it a way where you have 3 action points
- 33:42per round. Yeah, you can do three things.
- 33:44So you can either leave it open as long as everybody's
- 33:46reasonable. Or you can control it.
- 33:49So I wonder if it's because I had to sort of make it different
- 33:53as a certain degree from D and. DI think it could be that could
- 33:58be that yes and also you roll D 10s or.
- 34:02Twelves. And you roll 2 and one of them
- 34:05is hope and one of them is fear. And so the scenario I, I don't
- 34:11fully understand the rules around that yet, but when you
- 34:14make a role, you will succeed or fail with hope or with fear.
- 34:19So it changes things based on that aspect.
- 34:22Because didn't has Russia screw up everything they had?
- 34:26I got really mad at them for a while.
- 34:28There was like AI art going into the books and there was just.
- 34:31Books and alpha, they were wanting to start charging people
- 34:33hell of a lot more than they wanted and they wanted to also
- 34:36back pay and and. All the other thing is Critical
- 34:40Role has been such a fucking huge hit and the way they play
- 34:47is different because they are all actors and improvisers.
- 34:50And so I think this is attempt to make it more like their
- 34:57version of DND. Because when you, the memes
- 35:00about this and videos, if you watch Critical Role and you've,
- 35:03you don't know anything about DND, you watch Critical Role and
- 35:05you've got, you're going to play DND and then you show up to your
- 35:08local game store, you're going to be disappointed.
- 35:10Yes. That's not what it's like, no,
- 35:13because we're not all professional fucking actors.
- 35:17No but but I had critical DM did a lot of people interested in
- 35:21doing it. Yeah, exactly.
- 35:23And that's what they want. So I think this is maybe an
- 35:24attempt to try and make it more like that, where it's more like
- 35:28like he instead, you know, in D&D, for example, Chris Perkins
- 35:32in particular, right, the, I would say a previous acquisition
- 35:35to the corporate, again, they'll be in a fight and he would say
- 35:37the the monster does this, the monster does that.
- 35:39It actually does this. In Daggerheart it was more of a
- 35:43OK, you're fighting this thing, what does it do?
- 35:47Taco. Kind of it's more player agency
- 35:50as to telling the story, which I think is cool, but it's
- 35:54different. It feels very different.
- 35:57Like the whole thing. I found that it was almost a
- 36:00little confusing versus a normal acquisitions in game because I
- 36:03had to spend more time processing what are the how does
- 36:07this work? Whereas normally I just watch it
- 36:09and I know the rules. So it's just I could just enjoy
- 36:12the funny, you know? Whereas with this I was kind of
- 36:16trying to process what the fuck are they doing.
- 36:19But it was very enjoyable. Still really loved it.
- 36:24Daggerheart is interesting. I don't know if it's for me, but
- 36:27I don't know if that's just because I'm so used to DND.
- 36:32I left it thinking, oh I don't know about this, but then.
- 36:35But there's so many different versions these days that you can
- 36:38play. Yeah, I know.
- 36:39Yeah. I know.
- 36:41And I mean they don't play strict.
- 36:45No. Either, you know, acquisitions.
- 36:47Because I I also think if you're playing strict rules, it's I
- 36:52think takes the fun out of it a little bit.
- 36:54And also, I guess at its heart, Acquisitions Inc is just a
- 36:56comedy show. Yes, Like it's not.
- 36:59I don't think I can play absolute serious Dragons.
- 37:04Dragons. No, exactly.
- 37:05Yeah, no, I always play well. I mean, I have done, but I yeah,
- 37:08it's always a bit goofy, especially with us.
- 37:10If you want to listen to was it a Star Wars one?
- 37:15No, it was. Was it the horror one?
- 37:16I do. You guys spent half the fucking
- 37:18episode trying to get a chicken loaf sandwich.
- 37:20That was great, whatever that was.
- 37:24Space shift or something? I think it, yeah, I think.
- 37:26It was the horror one I did, yeah.
- 37:27And I was expecting there was a goo and I was expecting you guys
- 37:30to avoid the goo. And Dan was like, I eat the goo,
- 37:33for fuck's sake. So yeah, anyway, yeah, I'll link
- 37:41the dagger heart if you're interested.
- 37:42I think it's cool, I just don't know.
- 37:46If it's cool for you. Yeah, it's tough to say.
- 37:49Oh, Gearbox panel was on Thursday.
- 37:51I wasn't there. I've since looked it up.
- 37:54I don't, I didn't see, maybe I'm wrong on this.
- 37:56Maybe I didn't give it enough a chance.
- 37:59Not a huge number of announcements.
- 38:02And I don't actually even know if Randy was there.
- 38:07Well, they've got nothing sort of out.
- 38:10Well, they've got they're lasers.
- 38:12There's a DLC? For Yeah 4, No, he was there.
- 38:16He was there. Nothing.
- 38:16Nothing amazing. Was he there?
- 38:20Maybe he wasn't there. He works official as I hear
- 38:24everybody Anytime man is available now.
- 38:26Yeah, I don't know that is that. Strange for him not to be there
- 38:31getting up on stage doing his magic trick.
- 38:34Hang on a minute, I'm going to go to YouTube and Fact Check
- 38:36myself because I might be wrong about this.
- 38:41Oh God I can't get to normal YouTube because I'm too used to
- 38:44uploading stuff to our channel. But I'm having a look and I
- 38:47can't actually see like there's no big announcements that I can
- 38:51see that nothing like. That 2026 so there's a so
- 38:56there's a new expansion DLC for. Borderlands.
- 39:00Borderlands 4 and there's a new vault hunter because of that.
- 39:04I'm just getting through, I don't think Yeah, no, no.
- 39:08Randy Pitchford. Yeah, so.
- 39:09Yeah, Borderlands 4 was not that good.
- 39:14That's what I heard. I haven't even played it.
- 39:16Yeah, I. Honestly.
- 39:17Priceless. And I was like, I'm not hearing
- 39:20great things about it. Yeah, I honestly think it was a
- 39:23a rush because of how badly the movie did to.
- 39:26We need to get something else to, yeah.
- 39:30That's a shame. Yeah, the new Volt Hunter looks
- 39:35cool. He's like a cowboy robot.
- 39:37I. Think it looks cool?
- 39:39Well, Mike gives that a try because yeah, even the hero
- 39:41heroes that I had, none of them interested me.
- 39:45Yeah. Is it cheaper now?
- 39:48Borderlands 4? I would like to play it.
- 39:51Jenna and I always play these Co-op.
- 39:54Yeah, so. Because they are a fun Co-op
- 39:57game. But.
- 39:59I don't know how we're going to manage that these days, but.
- 40:01We've got to play three person Co-op and.
- 40:05Xbox series X digital code 50 bucks that's not so bad, but
- 40:10anyway. It'll be on sale soon.
- 40:13Yeah. I would like mid year sales.
- 40:16But I was so at first I was disappointed I didn't go to the
- 40:18Gearbox panel. But just because Randy's janky
- 40:21magic tricks always entertain me.
- 40:24Yes, sometimes they go off really smoothly.
- 40:27Sometimes they. They fun though.
- 40:30Sometimes it's just funny, like last year, but it seems like he
- 40:34wasn't there so. No, so he didn't miss.
- 40:38No. No, no.
- 40:42So that, I think is everything. That's the main big stuff to
- 40:46jump out to you for Packs East this year.
- 40:49Yes, really enjoyed it. Lots of oh, oh, the one of the
- 40:52things that was interesting Red Bull had a Tavern on the show
- 40:59floor, like a fake Tavern that they'd set up, which is cool
- 41:01with like torches and stuff like that.
- 41:02And it was basically like, so last year they had like a
- 41:07content creator only area where you could go in and they had
- 41:09these drinks that you could get where they basically they had
- 41:12like coolers full of different juice blends and stuff.
- 41:15And then you would say, I want the, I don't know, the this year
- 41:20it was like potions. So you say I want the potion of
- 41:21vitality. And what they do is they give
- 41:23you one of the flavoured Red Bulls.
- 41:24You know, Red Bull comes in all flavours now.
- 41:26Yep, paired with some juice mix. And it's kind of like a, a drink
- 41:29that they give you. And yeah, they're, they're all
- 41:32right. It was all free.
- 41:33Yep. So like, you know, that's pretty
- 41:35cool. And they had a bunch of events
- 41:39going on. You could get prizes you get you
- 41:41get given a character sheet, you can choose your class.
- 41:44You could be a wizard, rogue or fighter.
- 41:48And then you had quests to do around inside the Tavern.
- 41:50OK, that would have been fun. Yeah, it was.
- 41:52It was very cool, very cool set up.
- 41:54And that's just the middle of the floor.
- 41:56Middle of the show floor, you just go on in and you can play
- 41:59open board game, playing tables with games you could borrow and
- 42:03stuff. And they were doing demos of new
- 42:04games and and stuff like that. It was it was very cool.
- 42:07Yeah. But on Sunday, which is always
- 42:11the quietest day at PAX, yes. And we're thinking.
- 42:14One, that was this Family Day. On Sunday when we went there,
- 42:19because we popped in there every morning to get a Red Bull
- 42:20because why not? It's free.
- 42:21Yeah, Sunday they didn't have any of the mixer stuff left.
- 42:26And then the woman, we go up to the front and the woman goes
- 42:29just Red Bull today. Here you go.
- 42:31And like handed us cans of Red Bull and Jenna was like,
- 42:35wouldn't you like, like kind of portion that out for the days
- 42:40because people paid for a Sunday pass?
- 42:43Like it's kind of weird. Because it's four days.
- 42:45Oh no, it starts on Thursday, doesn't it?
- 42:48Yeah, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- 42:49Say, wouldn't you allocate a number of those things?
- 42:53To sort of hold off 'cause like Sunday is just.
- 42:56A little weird to say fuck you people on Sunday we've given.
- 42:59At least the the Family Day where it's the quieter and you
- 43:03are getting a new group of people coming through.
- 43:05It's not just the same people coming in to get your free Red
- 43:07Bull like you got every day like you were.
- 43:10Yeah, alright, alright. No, I just, I was like, yeah,
- 43:14good point. Like, wouldn't you wanna make
- 43:16sure you had some? I don't know what the days with
- 43:18the pins and stuff they will hold off selling them because
- 43:23some. People only buy a Sunday pass,
- 43:25yes, You know, it's hard to get away sometimes for yes, like in
- 43:30a number of days you can only go one day, Sunday.
- 43:32It's actually, I think a good day to go apart from things like
- 43:36that where they've run out of. Everything.
- 43:38Yeah, I think everything exactly.
- 43:40So I don't know. I just, yeah, Jenna was like,
- 43:43because she used to work for Dells, like when she was young
- 43:46doing the fairs and stuff like that.
- 43:47And so she was like, she's like, I can't believe they haven't got
- 43:50fucking. And I'm like, all right, all
- 43:51right. You you did get 2 days in a row.
- 43:55Yeah, she just knows what to do. But other than that, it was
- 44:01actually a cool little booth. Yeah.
- 44:05Interested to see what I get at Paxos this year.
- 44:08Yeah. I'm, I'm, I'm not going to make
- 44:10it unfortunately, but I would like to at some point get down
- 44:14there again. Yeah, as I said, I might try and
- 44:16make packs for my birthday. All right, do it.
- 44:20See what? Happens, yeah.
- 44:22Come stay here for a bit too if you want.
- 44:24You don't have to, but you. Can stay in my bedroom.
- 44:26Yeah, Dan. Yeah.
- 44:28AKA the basement. Yep.
- 44:32So what else have we got? We've got a fair bit that's
- 44:34still been happening this week. Yeah, I'm not sure we even have
- 44:37time to get through all this. Because no.
- 44:39But well, one of the things we did worth talking about last
- 44:41week was Arnie and then you Conan, and it looks like he's
- 44:46back in training for. It so it's.
- 44:49Happening. I didn't know the extent of
- 44:50this, though. He's had a lot of health issues.
- 44:52I didn't know that. Not specifically, apparently
- 44:54because of the fact that he was, you know, a bodybuilder or
- 44:58anything like that. Just kind of genetic concerns
- 45:01from his family history or whatever.
- 45:03He's had a bunch of open heart surgery.
- 45:05Oh God, yeah. I'll say oh, fuck.
- 45:07OK. That's pretty intense.
- 45:08Multiple open heart surgeries over the past 30 years.
- 45:11He's also had a hip replacement and assorted joint issues.
- 45:15I was like, oh, that's open. Heart surgeries over the last 30
- 45:17years. Oh my God, that's.
- 45:19Yeah, I know, right? I didn't know that.
- 45:21So I'm glad he's all right. And he's apparently training
- 45:24now, because obviously he's gonna want to be.
- 45:27He's gonna have to. You're gonna be looking the part
- 45:29'cause he's he's sized down. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:32He's gonna have, he's not gonna have like the six pack AB or
- 45:35anything. I think he's gonna have like the
- 45:36gut. He's gonna look like a large old
- 45:39man. Yes, yeah, he's gonna, he's
- 45:41gonna work on his arms. I think he's gonna work on his
- 45:43glamour muscles through his arms.
- 45:46Yeah. But if you look at most strong
- 45:49men competitions, they don't have a six pack or anything.
- 45:53No, no, no. No, it's about actual power.
- 45:55Not power. Not looking good for other men,
- 45:58Yeah. Yeah, 'cause women don't give a
- 46:02shit. No.
- 46:03They do to a degree, but after a certain point they do not.
- 46:06Yes, men do. Yeah, you're right.
- 46:11So I'm happy that this is actually gonna happen.
- 46:15Yeah, King Conan is called, I believe.
- 46:18Yep. Oh, tentatively called.
- 46:20Yeah, because I know he'd sort of mentioned it, but he'd also,
- 46:23there was also talk of commando and stuff, and I'm sort of like
- 46:26that. Too another Terminator.
- 46:28And another predator and I'll go.
- 46:30This is getting a bit crazy. Yeah.
- 46:33I mean, I don't need all of that.
- 46:35Yeah, yeah, I think, he said. Holly, Hollywood, Hollywood's
- 46:38cut. Arnie Fever.
- 46:41They want to mean everything. But no, I can't see like a 1778
- 46:44year old man playing commando again.
- 46:49Speaking of Speaking of muscle men, Yep.
- 46:53You've seen The Rock. Yes, late, I'm sure we've talked
- 46:56about this before. And Dave Batista sized down as
- 46:58well. Yeah, but did you see the Moana
- 47:02trailer? No.
- 47:04So the the have a look at what the rock looks like in the live
- 47:10action Moana, he's doing the rock playing the role of Maui
- 47:13again. And my favorite thing that came
- 47:16out of this was Weird Al tweeting saying, look, I've told
- 47:21everybody we're not doing the biopic anymore, but they keep
- 47:24sending me headshots because if you look at what the rock looks
- 47:28like, it's insane. The Rock all.
- 47:31Right. And then I'm just skipping
- 47:34across. Yeah, just look at the picture.
- 47:38Oh my God. It's like, what are they doing?
- 47:46It's just so odd. Yes, yeah, it's very odd.
- 47:53See, I've never seen Moana and I have no interest in a live
- 47:56action movie so. No, so I watched the live action
- 48:01Lilo and Stitch. I know I talked about this
- 48:02already, and it was just so disappointing that I'm like, no,
- 48:04you know what? Fuck all these stupid versions.
- 48:07Yeah. Just don't understand when I
- 48:09keep going to make a live action of everything they've ever done,
- 48:12even recently. But they just decided they're
- 48:13doing it now. Yep.
- 48:14Yeah. Yeah, Exactly.
- 48:16The movie that came out last year, it's still a live action
- 48:18version of that. Yeah.
- 48:20I don't know. We've got also what was I going
- 48:27to talk about? Oh, the AO Neo, right.
- 48:30You've got one these, right? Or I I've still got 1.
- 48:33I don't use it at all anymore. But what is the one that you
- 48:36have? It was the AO Neo next.
- 48:38OK, OK, perfect. Right.
- 48:40They announced not long ago the AO Neo next too.
- 48:44And looking at it, it looks very nice.
- 48:48Well looking at it is all you can do because it has been
- 48:52cancelled because they. Can't afford to make it.
- 48:56Because of AI, Yeah, they said basically they had to GoFundMe.
- 49:01GoFundMe. Not GoFundMe.
- 49:02That's the charity one. Indiegogo.
- 49:04Indiegogo. That's the word I'm looking for.
- 49:07Indiegogo for it. They were taking orders and all
- 49:09that kind of stuff and then they had to cancel it because they
- 49:10said that basically it now is going to cost double,
- 49:15approaching twice the price we originally set.
- 49:18Under such circumstances, continuing to sell this product
- 49:20is no longer sustainable. Cancelled.
- 49:23It is not happening. And that's why I'm sort of
- 49:25interested to see what's actually going to happen with
- 49:27like the new Xbox and new PlayStation.
- 49:29Like what price point are you going to come in at?
- 49:32Because if AI is just taking everything and they can't keep
- 49:35up. It's like it's, it's ridiculous,
- 49:39like. And it seems to be new AI every
- 49:42day for a new thing. Actually one just disappeared.
- 49:47Aura disappeared. Aura, Aura.
- 49:50There's a Disney one for making videos.
- 49:52Oh, Sora, Sora, Sora. Yeah, sorry.
- 49:55OK, yeah, yeah, that Chat GPTS video thing.
- 49:58Yeah, they've shut that down. Yeah, I did.
- 50:01They say why they shut that down.
- 50:02I don't. I know that they did.
- 50:04For me, in my head, it's just they're getting to the point
- 50:08where this is costing us a lot of money, but we're not making
- 50:12anything. Yeah, so is the one I used to
- 50:14make those videos of you. But yeah, I think I'm arrested.
- 50:20I think a lot of them are just at that point where we need to
- 50:24start recouping money because I think you see billions into it.
- 50:27Yeah, but they got videos of me being arrested.
- 50:31Yeah, tackled by police on a bridge.
- 50:36Yeah. I just, I don't know this.
- 50:39People keep saying, oh, the bubble's going to burst, and it
- 50:41just doesn't. It's just they just keep going
- 50:44and going so. And the prices keep going up.
- 50:46Yeah, it's crazy. Everything just keeps going up
- 50:49at the moment. Yes.
- 50:52So that's disappointing for those who were looking forward
- 50:54to those consoles are very impressive.
- 50:57Yes, but look, get the LAX, even though that's just jumped up in
- 51:01price, $200. Well, the same thing Deck is is
- 51:06they can't make some of the Steam Decks anymore, correct.
- 51:08I thought, yeah, out of everything's out of stock.
- 51:11I cannot buy a Steam Deck right now because they just can't get
- 51:16the I believe it's because they can't get the RAM for a
- 51:19reasonable price and the Steam Machine is delayed potentially
- 51:23because of it now too, or the price is going to be too higher.
- 51:26It's like, yeah, it's a bummer. OK, just for the the average
- 51:30user. Now it's just not going to be
- 51:33affordable to get a console, which is the whole idea of like
- 51:38the the Steam Deck, the Steam Box, the new PlayStation,
- 51:45everything was like having an affordable entry point you.
- 51:48Know you should just do what I do and play on GeForce cloud.
- 51:51Yes. This episode sponsored by No,
- 51:54they're not sponsors if they want to sponsor US.
- 51:57Yeah, they can. Yeah, give me a free account.
- 52:01Yeah, that's what I think. Actually, I actually.
- 52:03Free account. I'm bad at this.
- 52:05I should disclose they did give me a free account to begin with.
- 52:09Oh wow. I've, I know I talked about this
- 52:11in the beginning, but I forget that this happened, right?
- 52:13And so I've, I'll, I'll disclose that they did give me a free
- 52:17account for 12 months when it first came out.
- 52:20Yeah, because of the podcast. And then you disclosure for it.
- 52:25I am paying for it now and have been for a couple of years.
- 52:28Yeah, they did give me a free account.
- 52:29I want to disclose that. Yep.
- 52:31That has not influenced my decision to continue using it.
- 52:34I'm using it because it's a good product.
- 52:36The thing is, I think you're actually using it more than what
- 52:39you did that first year. I absolutely AM.
- 52:41Like, yeah, since you started playing for it, I think you're
- 52:43using it more and I don't. Yeah, I think.
- 52:46The first year I didn't use it very much.
- 52:47Yeah, because I didn't. I wasn't playing Dune starters.
- 52:51And I think that's. Playing Xbox a lot.
- 52:53Shows how good the product is that you can go and just play
- 52:55any of the games you want and they listen to it and you can
- 52:58play GOG now well. Not yet.
- 53:00But yeah, I keep checking. Hang on.
- 53:01Let me open it and double check a bit soon.
- 53:03Yeah. No, it's it's good.
- 53:06I like it. I can play it on my Logitech G
- 53:11Cloud who haven't given me anything.
- 53:13Logitech haven't give me fuck all.
- 53:14So definitely not sponsored by them.
- 53:16Oh, release highlights something something happened.
- 53:23No GOG. OK, fuck.
- 53:24You no GOG, but it's coming. It it apparently is coming
- 53:28connections. Nah, no GOG.
- 53:32Yeah, Speaking of AI, well, actually it's two games we just
- 53:40need to talk about. The first is this new open world
- 53:43game called Crimson Desert, which looks very cool.
- 53:47I I'd be interested in if I had more time, but they've come out
- 53:52and well, they've been caught I guess is how it's being put.
- 53:56Yes. It's got AAI art in it.
- 54:00Yes. And this is similar, I think, to
- 54:03what was that other game that got their game of the year
- 54:06stripped away from them. The clear obscura is that that
- 54:11one? I don't think I got a shirt, but
- 54:14I know there was a lot of talk about it.
- 54:16No, they did. They did take it away.
- 54:19Yeah, clear obscure Expedition 33.
- 54:22Yeah, Game of the year. That was great game.
- 54:26I wish I should go back and finish that.
- 54:29They disqualified them retroactively and took it away
- 54:32because it had AI in it. And so Crimson Desert has it in.
- 54:36And also this week, Alcat Games who are making The Expanse game,
- 54:41Osiris Reborn, they said, yeah, we're using it too.
- 54:47And I think it's in the same way that the others were.
- 54:49And what's happening is, so to clarify, yes, the way that
- 54:53they're doing this is as they're making the game, they're using
- 54:56AI generated stuff in the game temporarily.
- 55:01So when they implement a feature, if it's particularly,
- 55:05you know, game development is a lot about trying things and
- 55:09seeing what's fun and adjusting things and tweaking things until
- 55:11you get it right. And, and my understanding is
- 55:14what they're doing, what they, what they say they're doing is
- 55:17when they start making stuff, rather than getting somebody to
- 55:22spend the time to make art and, and, and things to for this
- 55:28thing that they might just delete anyway because it maybe
- 55:31it sucks. We're going to try something.
- 55:33Let's so they AI generate some stuff, put it in the game, test
- 55:37it out, make sure it's fun. And once they can, once
- 55:40everything's confirmed, they get someone to make the actual art,
- 55:44and then they replace. Everything.
- 55:45I think that's a good way of sort of doing it because.
- 55:48I feel like that's OK. Beating up the process for games
- 55:53being released, which everyone wants, yeah, it's still 100%
- 55:56human product at the end, that's just.
- 55:59Yes, but the problem is they're missing some.
- 56:02That's what's. Happening that would be a
- 56:04problem. Yes, and and that that literally
- 56:06was a problem for clear obscure that that 'cause they said
- 56:09that's what happened. They were using textures in the
- 56:12background that were generated and they just didn't remove them
- 56:14all. They didn't replace them all
- 56:16with human made ones. Crimson Desert, same thing.
- 56:20Yep, they have apparently apparently accidentally left
- 56:24some in. And I mean the Expanse one.
- 56:28Hopefully they'll fucking try really hard to get them all.
- 56:30Because, well, the problem is find them.
- 56:32They find them, but the problem is is like the expanse of what
- 56:35they're aiming to do Looks like it's going to be a huge game.
- 56:38It's looks like Mass Effect. Everyone's like, oh, it's just
- 56:41Mass Effect in The Expanse. Yeah, OK, Fuck yeah.
- 56:43Yeah, bring it on. This game looks great to me.
- 56:45Yeah, I mean, and if they'd OK they're using AIR to prototype
- 56:51stuff in development, I don't have an issue with that
- 56:53personally. No, I think that's a sensible.
- 56:57And it's a way of the future. AI is going to be a part of
- 57:00everything we do going forward. And yeah.
- 57:03Larian said the same thing, too. They're going to use it for
- 57:05their next game. Yeah, I think in the same way,
- 57:10but you just I guess need to keep track of.
- 57:12Just keep track of. You can replace.
- 57:14It with it, yeah, but but also this can really help with you
- 57:17getting those big games you want faster.
- 57:21Right. Yeah, because you don't have to.
- 57:23And then and the money will be better spent.
- 57:26On. Actual stuff that stays in the
- 57:29game rather than spending money. On paying someone to make
- 57:32someone that just Oh no, we've deleted that.
- 57:34That it's never going to be. Used, you know what?
- 57:35That's that's not fun. Just delete that whole section
- 57:38of the game kind of thing. It's just, yeah.
- 57:43So I think there's a balance to be had there, but so far, yeah.
- 57:46So like I said, Crimson Desert didn't get them all.
- 57:48So they've they're in, people are mad about that right now.
- 57:51And then people are mad about the Alcat for The Expanse
- 57:56preemptively because they found out that they're using it.
- 58:00Well, they didn't find out. They just said it.
- 58:01They said we're using it during development and I don't have a
- 58:06problem with it but. Not not, no.
- 58:08Not using it that way when at the end of the day it is 100%
- 58:12human. If they do remember to take it
- 58:14all away. If you release the game and it's
- 58:15all just AI slop. Like, yeah, I completely
- 58:18understand. Yeah, but why are we attacking
- 58:22them before we even know what's there?
- 58:25An elephant in the room. Yeah, I use AI for the
- 58:27thumbnails lately because it can do funny things.
- 58:30I use it for comedy purposes. I hope people don't mind that I
- 58:33do that you know, this week will not be this week will be a
- 58:36photograph of me at PAX. It's not AI, it's me.
- 58:41So. You're not going to put AI hair
- 58:43or anything. How dare you?
- 58:45Take some of the white out of the beard.
- 58:47Fuck you. I told Lyra I was like I might
- 58:55might dye my beard brown and she goes why?
- 58:59And I said, so it's not white anymore.
- 59:00And she goes, but I might not recognize you anymore.
- 59:04And I said, oh. And she goes, no, it'll be OK.
- 59:06I'll just remember. That's still my dad.
- 59:08He just doesn't want anyone to know he's old.
- 59:10Oh. Shit, Yep.
- 59:16No, I did actually have a look at head.
- 59:17I said I don't have any ginger. None at all.
- 59:20None for beards, no can. You use like Hannah.
- 59:23Doesn't Hannah go kind of gingery?
- 59:25Maybe. I'm no expert.
- 59:31Nor am I. I mean, you, you're already
- 59:34dyeing your hair. Yeah, I don't think anyone would
- 59:36question. I've always worried about
- 59:39putting this sort of hair dye, like I've got green hair at the
- 59:41moment, Putting that in my beard and just inhaling those fumes
- 59:45for a while. I've always been worried about
- 59:47that. That guy on Is it Cake?
- 59:52With the green, I don't know if people do it.
- 59:54Yeah, maybe I should just suck it off and give it a try.
- 59:56If I pass out, I pass out. It's going to say plug your
- 1:00:03nose, but so it's your mouth too.
- 1:00:04It's that whole. Yeah, it's like I can't just not
- 1:00:07breathe for half an hour. Maybe just look up someone done
- 1:00:11this before and what's the Safeway to do it?
- 1:00:14You know I'm not going to do that.
- 1:00:15Yeah, OK, fine. All right.
- 1:00:16Well, it's been nice knowing you.
- 1:00:21I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm not going to bleach it back.
- 1:00:24That'll be stupid. You wouldn't.
- 1:00:26That'd be gone too far. Yeah, that's pretty white.
- 1:00:29So it's. A bit as I can say it's a bit
- 1:00:30looking a bit pale. Anyway, yeah.
- 1:00:36Oh, and just on the subject of AI, this is a quick one.
- 1:00:38This is follow up actually. I've talked in the past about
- 1:00:41the issues with Spotify where people can gener either AI
- 1:00:45generate or not even AI generate.
- 1:00:46I could write a song and say this is me and Hans Zimmer and
- 1:00:51put Hans Zimmer's name on it and it gets posted to his profile
- 1:00:55and therefore I get people listening to my garbage that I
- 1:00:58made. Because they think it's Hans
- 1:00:59Zimmer. Because I said that it is and
- 1:01:02nobody checks. Yep.
- 1:01:03And there's nothing he can do about it even if I do.
- 1:01:06It because if he was to try, it's not possible for him to
- 1:01:09keep up with. Correct.
- 1:01:11He's got to contact them. Yeah, So apparently Spotify is
- 1:01:15going to be trialling a new thing where basically it's
- 1:01:18called artist profile protection.
- 1:01:20You have to review stuff before it gets posted to your profile.
- 1:01:24I'm assuming this is going to be optional, but I I think big
- 1:01:29artists will jump on this. I think so, because also I want
- 1:01:33to think like, oh, it's going to be hard for them to keep up.
- 1:01:35No, it's not. They're just going to have an
- 1:01:36account over here. That's just their spam folder.
- 1:01:40Exactly. And they know when they're.
- 1:01:41Putting stuff out? Yeah.
- 1:01:42When you release something, go and approve it.
- 1:01:44Otherwise, everything else goes in the trash or or the yeah.
- 1:01:47Yeah, exactly. It's not gonna be hard.
- 1:01:49I think this is a really good idea and this is what people
- 1:01:53were asking for. Like I think I said, Venus
- 1:01:55Theory did that video where he signed up for a new account
- 1:02:00under a different name, right? Nothing was associated with him
- 1:02:04and in fact he uploaded songs that said this is not a Venus
- 1:02:08Theory song. Do not post this to Venus
- 1:02:10Theory's profile. This is AI generated song.
- 1:02:12This is not a Venus Theory song. Put it in as Venus Theory posted
- 1:02:16it and it went straight onto his page and was like you went to
- 1:02:19his page. The new release from Venus
- 1:02:21Theory. This is not a Venus Theory song.
- 1:02:23Generated crap. And he was just like, how is it
- 1:02:26that people can do this? Yeah.
- 1:02:29That's not right. Even though sort of at the end
- 1:02:30of the day, you're going to be the one making money out of it.
- 1:02:32It's not yours. It's not you didn't create it.
- 1:02:36It's nothing to do with you. Yeah, it's crazy that you can,
- 1:02:39you can do that. And it's all because of the way
- 1:02:42we got here. Like the system wasn't intended
- 1:02:45for people to be able to upload because you used to go through
- 1:02:47label radius, you know, through record labels and stuff, and
- 1:02:50they didn't need this because you couldn't do it.
- 1:02:52And then now it's just a result of yeah, the the path.
- 1:02:57Everything just happened very, very, very quickly and it's hard
- 1:03:00to keep up sometimes. Yes, And the cost of entry got
- 1:03:05way lower because it used to be it was like a couple of 100
- 1:03:08bucks to get something on, you know, with CD Baby or whatever
- 1:03:13when it first got on. And then all of a sudden things
- 1:03:15like District Kid came out. And now I pay, I pay like $40 a
- 1:03:20year and I can upload unlimited stuff.
- 1:03:22Yeah, unlimited stuff to my to my Spotify, Apple Music, you
- 1:03:26know. So, and I know there are a lot
- 1:03:29of people out there just spamming AI crap out there and
- 1:03:31it's just appearing on people's playlists when they're German
- 1:03:34stuff and they don't care. No people don't like just lo fi
- 1:03:39AI generated stuff. Yep.
- 1:03:41People just, they don't care. No.
- 1:03:44Yeah, the value of music has really fallen through the floor
- 1:03:48because you just have access to so much of it now.
- 1:03:51Yep. Like people just, yeah, don't
- 1:03:53listen to it the same way anyway.
- 1:03:55Yeah, you don't buy an album anymore.
- 1:03:57You stopped buying albums years ago.
- 1:03:58Remember when you used to buy an album and you'd listen to the
- 1:04:01album? Because that was the album you
- 1:04:02bought. And even if there were songs on
- 1:04:04there you didn't really like, you still listen to them.
- 1:04:05Because that was the album you bought.
- 1:04:07Yeah, you're just gonna listen to it.
- 1:04:10Yeah, now you just listen to the songs you want.
- 1:04:12Yeah, and you might buy an album and go, oh, this album's
- 1:04:15actually a bit shit. Oh well, and then you listen to
- 1:04:17it anyway because that's the fucking album that you just
- 1:04:19bought. Yes, you spent 30 bucks on it.
- 1:04:23You're stuck with it now. That's it.
- 1:04:24Yeah, exactly. And then you get to like it.
- 1:04:27Yeah. And then sometimes you do come
- 1:04:29back and go, Oh no, actually this is a lot better than I
- 1:04:31thought. Yes, I didn't give it a chance
- 1:04:33at first. Whereas now if you're on
- 1:04:35Spotify, you go, yeah, skip. Skip.
- 1:04:37Yep. Mm hmm, doesn't even need a
- 1:04:39chance. No.
- 1:04:42Yeah, no way. We will give you a chance.
- 1:04:44Everyone gets your chance. Where?
