Transcript
- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10I am aligned as fuck. More like you're doing lines as
- 0:14fuck. Welcome to What's Your Least
- 0:16Favorite Scary Movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:18the good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd and all of our
- 0:21favorite. And least favorite?
- 0:22Scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:24movie rightfully, as is fanbase. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:28My name is Travis. My name is Jesse and welcome
- 0:30back to our monthly bonus feature.
- 0:33To. Be or not to be.
- 0:35When we look. At low budget, under seen
- 0:39underrated gems found on free streaming services such as Tubi.
- 0:45Yes, yes, it's it's Jesse's. Pick this.
- 0:48Yes, and we are coming at you live unedited and mostly
- 0:53undrawn. So be ready for all of the
- 0:55nonsense that comes with this, because let me tell ya, I'm full
- 0:58of nonsense today. Travis can attest to this.
- 1:01We were in the grocery store and I said it's done for some beans
- 1:05in front of other human beings. Yeah.
- 1:07So yeah, you had to apologize, and Zoe's not having it either.
- 1:10Zoe's not having it either. She had her Chapel Rowan moment
- 1:13earlier. She feels like she's even more
- 1:16the start of the show than normal so.
- 1:18Yeah, she's feeling. A lot going on, yeah.
- 1:20All right, So what are we, what are we talking about today,
- 1:23Jesse? Today we are talking actually
- 1:25about her to the original. Yeah, that's true.
- 1:28It's called Requiem for a Scream and I picked it because it is
- 1:34Teams in a cabin in the woods and it is starring Cassandra
- 1:39Scarabo, who many people may know from Sharknado, which we
- 1:43will eventually cover on the podcast.
- 1:45But if you are a longtime listener of our show, you will
- 1:47also know from one of my birthday episodes a couple years
- 1:50ago. Truth or dare.
- 1:51The sci-fi version. The superior version.
- 1:55Which character is she and. She's on one of the final ones.
- 1:58You know, it's like the two besties at the end.
- 2:00Oh yeah, you're right. OK I don't remember her from
- 2:03Sharknado but. She was like the bartender, I
- 2:05think. OK, there's a lot of weird
- 2:08actors in that movie. Yeah, every time you watch
- 2:11Sharknado, it's like, oh, hey, I forgot that this person's in it.
- 2:13I forgot this person's in it. I remember Tara Reid was in it.
- 2:16Yeah. And to be fair.
- 2:17Everything Tara Reid's ever been.
- 2:18I've only watched that movie one time so.
- 2:20That's true. Yeah.
- 2:21So. All right, cool.
- 2:23Yeah, that's where we're at and that's the main reason, OK.
- 2:26Yeah, why have an uncopy? Yep, that's we got that out of
- 2:29the way early. There we go.
- 2:30Virus and threat protection. We are protected.
- 2:33No, we are not. Well, it's fine.
- 2:36I do not have any of that shit on here.
- 2:38It's fine. We don't have any viruses.
- 2:40We. Have the browsers here for you?
- 2:42OK, let's we're getting. We need to get on topic here.
- 2:46OK, ready for some background on this movie?
- 2:49Yeah, I am OK Requiem for a screen.
- 2:52It released August 25th, 2022. Obviously it went straight to
- 2:56Doobie because it's their their premiere thing.
- 2:59Well sometimes these movies I imagine have like their own
- 3:01premiere and then maybe Toby could snag the rights to them
- 3:04for streaming I think. You said it was A to be original
- 3:07though, wasn't it? Yeah, but Netflix does the same
- 3:10thing. They acquire movies and they
- 3:12brand it as an original. Yeah.
- 3:14And I know Hulu does the same thing too with their.
- 3:16They all do their. Dreamlight.
- 3:17Spotlight. I mean, we're about to record in
- 3:20a violent nature and it was the same deal with that.
- 3:22So true. Yeah, OK.
- 3:24You can watch it on TV. That's the only place where you
- 3:26can currently stream it, and it is for free.
- 3:28So if the sounds of this movie tickle your fancy, go ahead and
- 3:32do that. Yeah.
- 3:33Written by Andre Pucci and Jordan Robinson, directed by Ben
- 3:38Meyerson. There was not, like, a dedicated
- 3:40composer. So I don't have original music
- 3:43by Wow. Really.
- 3:44I know. I feel like there was a lot of
- 3:45music in it. And considering the whole plot
- 3:47is music based, it's kind of ironic.
- 3:50I wonder if they went with royalty free stuff.
- 3:53I feel like they had to. Yeah, they probably didn't hire
- 3:56anybody. They just, like, fixed it.
- 3:57Yeah, that's got to be what it was.
- 3:59And in terms of special effects makeup, there wasn't actually a
- 4:01dedicated special effects makeup.
- 4:03There was just two makeup artists.
- 4:05So I have to assume that they also did the special effects
- 4:08stuff. You would think.
- 4:10So those people were Alexandra Bayless and Ashley Stansbury.
- 4:14So good job because those were like, you know, several like
- 4:17neck slashing prosthetics. That and the face stab.
- 4:21Yeah, they do pretty well, yeah. They did they did a decent job
- 4:25starring Cassandra Scarabo as Artemis, Georgia Leva as Shira,
- 4:30Zachary Ruzen as Declan, India McGee as Alex, Brandon Santana
- 4:35as Theo, David James Lewis as Thomas and Michael X summers as
- 4:39Caleb. Nice Travis.
- 4:41Time for our favorite game budget or bugtad and this game
- 4:48just for those of you that are new listeners.
- 4:49Thank you. Did have this question come up
- 4:51Budget or bugtad is throwback to an episode a couple of years
- 4:55ago. Neither of us can remember
- 4:57exactly which movie it was. If you listener out there, do
- 5:00you remember? Please tell us.
- 5:02Yeah, we read a review for a movie and it was an IMDb review
- 5:08and the person said you can tell that this is low budget except
- 5:10they like transposed the letters and you said you can tell this
- 5:13is low bug Ted. And we loved that as a way to
- 5:17denote when something is very low budget.
- 5:19Yeah, just calling it bug Ted and.
- 5:20It just kind of stuck it. Kind of stuck.
- 5:22You know, we've been been doing it for so long that I forget
- 5:24that people probably don't understand that sometimes.
- 5:26Every now and then we do a refresh.
- 5:28Yes, I think we do a refresh of that like every like maybe 50
- 5:31episodes. Yeah, it's.
- 5:32Gonna say you're six months or so.
- 5:33Yeah. So that's where that comes from.
- 5:36It's just we really enjoyed the typo.
- 5:39I'm queen of typos, so it's a fun thing for me to see those
- 5:42out in the wild and adjust them into my own lexicon.
- 5:44Just having fun, you know, having her own little running
- 5:47jokes in the show here. That way, you know, we're all
- 5:49part of a crew here. We're all group everybody here.
- 5:52OK, so I'm gonna say that this is bug Ted.
- 5:56Yes. In fact, it is the category of
- 5:58bug Ted that I don't actually have the financials for it.
- 6:01Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah, which?
- 6:02Also means I don't have box office.
- 6:04That makes sense. Because it went straight to
- 6:06streaming. Yeah, to a free streaming store.
- 6:09Straight to 2B, yeah. I do have an IMDb score though.
- 6:13OK, as of today it is a 4.0 out of 10.
- 6:16Yeah, so. That's that's where that's at.
- 6:19I did pull 3 movies from 2022. Alright, I'm curious on the
- 6:23theme here. So I didn't actually get a
- 6:25theme. So 2022 was like an absolute
- 6:29fucking banger. It was an all time like.
- 6:32That's going to be that's the year to beat this decade, yes,
- 6:35so far. So I literally like instead of
- 6:38Googling 2022 horror movies because I knew it was going to
- 6:40pop up, I googled 2022 low budget horror movies and I was
- 6:44trying to think of the things that went like either had a
- 6:47limited theatrical release or went straight to streaming.
- 6:50So that's what I did with this. OK, so it's not my most
- 6:53inventive theme, I understand, but 2022 is stacked and it just
- 6:59didn't seem fair to pull it against all of those other
- 7:02movies. You know, but to be fair, I feel
- 7:04like most of the movies that we loved from that year were low
- 7:08budget. That is true because Terrifier 2
- 7:10was like one of the ones. That it was like 6.
- 7:12Movies that popped up as low budget and Terrifier 2 was one
- 7:15of them and I was like. No, you.
- 7:17Can't do that. Yep.
- 7:19OK, what you got? OK, so the first one is actually
- 7:23one that we've seen dead stream. OK, OK, yeah, that one came out
- 7:27on Shudder. So you know, Daddy Shudder.
- 7:31I fucking love that movie. Man, that movie is so good.
- 7:35I didn't expect it to be as good as it was.
- 7:38He really captured the essence of, like, family friendly,
- 7:41spooky YouTube. Yeah, so well.
- 7:45And it had twists and turns in ways that, like, you kind of
- 7:48expected what was coming. But also, we're still caught off
- 7:50guard. Well, not only that, I just love
- 7:53the concept. You know what, no, the idea of
- 7:56it being a streamer, like that's that's been done plenty of
- 7:59times, but I like the idea of it being a streamer that had an
- 8:03incident and he's on the like he's kind of gain everybody
- 8:06back. So he's doing like a big event.
- 8:08You know, that's that's a cool way to do that.
- 8:10Yes, absolutely. So that released October 6th,
- 8:142022. I don't have a budget for it,
- 8:16but I do have a worldwide gross. I want a release in theaters.
- 8:20I don't know if it released in theaters or if this is like a
- 8:22home media gross because I do think.
- 8:24It went straight to shutter. I know it went straight to
- 8:26shutter, but I do think that there were some like it did.
- 8:29Have. Yeah.
- 8:29Yeah, it did have. Hobbies, but I actually, I have
- 8:32a $1 million gross for it. Wow, Good for them.
- 8:35Yeah, I'm very happy for them because that movie is good.
- 8:38If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out.
- 8:40I absolutely recommend that that's I mean, it's a fucking
- 8:43fantastic. Movie.
- 8:44Yeah, it's a, it's a, it's just fucking fun, you know, And it's
- 8:48done by the same people who did one of the bits in VHS 94 or is
- 8:53it 84? 94 because I don't think we
- 8:56watched 84. Yet OK, I couldn't remember
- 8:58which one was which. It was the same one with Bitch
- 8:59Cat the. Same one with rap.
- 9:02Nah. And rap.
- 9:02Nah, yeah. Rap, yeah, yeah.
- 9:05So they did a bit in that one. Their bit was going.
- 9:10To hell yeah, honestly. I think if you want and watch
- 9:14this movie, that one was fine, but this movie is really.
- 9:17Yeah, I think the concept of deadstream I enjoyed a little
- 9:21bit more, but you can definitely feel the same sense of humor.
- 9:24I get it. Yeah, They have the same stuff.
- 9:26You can tell it's the same people.
- 9:27Yeah, and it has a 6.4 out of 10 on IMDb and.
- 9:31That's a very pleasant, yeah. Surprise well learned.
- 9:34Yeah, I like that. OK, what's #2?
- 9:36And #2 is a movie that you and I have both discussed that we're
- 9:39probably never going to watch just because of everything we've
- 9:41heard about it. We don't want to sink the amount
- 9:43of time into it. Skin and marine, yes.
- 9:47Yeah. So and like we've heard that
- 9:50it's like very experimental, which we're into, but we've also
- 9:52heard that this could have been a short and there's just, yeah,
- 9:55there's something about it that. Never say never.
- 9:59I don't know if I'll ever not watch it because there might be
- 10:02a night where I'm like, you know what, fuck it, let's try it.
- 10:04But just like, I love the idea, the concept, and I saw the
- 10:10runtime and then knowing the concept, I'm like, well, that I
- 10:14don't know how you're gonna do that.
- 10:17Yeah, that's, that's crazy. My thing is how long it is with
- 10:20how there's no dialogue and no faces.
- 10:24I don't know if there's no dialogue, but there's like, no,
- 10:27I don't know. We haven't.
- 10:28Yeah. To be fair, we haven't seen it,
- 10:29so we can't really speak on it. But a lot of people have really
- 10:33loved it and it sounds like it's really great for a lot of
- 10:36people. We're just saying this is.
- 10:37It doesn't seem like the type of thing that's for.
- 10:40Us. It's incredibly divisive.
- 10:41We're not yanking anyone's Yum. We're just, you know, not our
- 10:45thing. So that released July 25th, 2022
- 10:50at the Fantasia International Film Festival.
- 10:52It was on a budget of 15,000 Canadian dollars.
- 10:56A OK. A OK.
- 11:03It had a worldwide gross of 2.1 million, so.
- 11:06That had that one. I remember really about that.
- 11:09It went viral on TikTok. Yeah, the the little phone thing
- 11:14from it, Yeah, that was a big thing for people.
- 11:17For a lot, and I remember the hype whenever it released in
- 11:19theaters, I remember we had a bunch of friends that went out
- 11:21to go see it. That yeah, we were very
- 11:23potentially interested in seeing it at first until we heard more
- 11:26about it and I'm really. That well, that was one.
- 11:28I always felt like I'm just gonna wait for shutter.
- 11:30Yeah, yeah, that has a 4.8 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 11:35Which really kind? Of highlights the divisiveness
- 11:37of it, I think. Yeah, almost right.
- 11:39That with a slight edge to. Bad.
- 11:42It's funny, but yeah, no, that one is super divisive from all
- 11:46I've heard. And then the third one, I'm
- 11:48gonna say we haven't watched it, but in a way we have, because
- 11:53the description and the cover art are very, very similar to a
- 11:57much beloved movie in our house. It's called Final Cut and it's a
- 12:04movie about a production company on a shoestring budget trying to
- 12:08make a zombie movie when they experience a real life zombie
- 12:10outbreak. Does that sound any little bit
- 12:14familiar? To you, is that a remake of One
- 12:16Cut of the Dead? It sounds like it, doesn't it?
- 12:18Is an American. I don't know, I didn't read too
- 12:21much into it. I was just a little bit like
- 12:24this. Is that's the exact.
- 12:25Premise. That's the exact premise.
- 12:27And if you haven't seen one cut of the Dead, first of all, watch
- 12:30it. Second of all, if you have
- 12:31Shudder, watch the Joe Bob version of it because he gives
- 12:33one of his like best motivational speeches.
- 12:36And like, honest to God, every time I'm sitting here struggling
- 12:39about like my artistic aspirations, I just hear Joe Bob
- 12:42in my head. I said fuck aspiring.
- 12:45Yeah. That's true.
- 12:47I wanna paint that on a canvas and put it up on our walls.
- 12:50So that way, like every time I'm down on myself, I look up and
- 12:52I'm like, no, fuck aspiring. Yeah, and that's a legendary
- 12:55speech. And that's a legendary movie.
- 12:58That's a great movie. The movie itself is amazing and
- 13:00we do have it on DVD as well. Yeah, that's funny.
- 13:03Well, I guess that's almost you almost had a theme of all
- 13:07Shutter movies here. If you would've done that movie,
- 13:10but it didn't come. Out yeah it wasn't 2022 so yeah
- 13:14but yeah so that premiered May 17th 2022.
- 13:18I don't have a budget or a ghost for it but it is a 6.4 out of 10
- 13:22on IMDb. OK but yes I do.
- 13:25I am kind of curious to look more into it to see if it is
- 13:28meant to be like a remake. Kind of like how they did speak
- 13:30no evil like less than two years after the non American one came
- 13:37out. I'm sorry, I'm laughing because
- 13:39I peeked over at your sheet and I just saw the tagline section.
- 13:42It's just a little frowny face. Yeah, there it's.
- 13:47The the worst thing about the two of your originals is there
- 13:49are no taglines. I don't know.
- 13:51Is that is that like a true thing for all of them so far?
- 13:54Yeah, Yeah. We've only talked about one
- 13:57other one so far and it was the meet the parents, right?
- 14:00There was that one and there was, it's like.
- 14:02The not meet the parents. No, it was like meet the
- 14:05parents, kind of. Killer.
- 14:07Parents. Yeah, meet the killer parents.
- 14:08That's it, yeah. Yeah, and there was also the
- 14:10final rose. Oh, shit, Yeah, we just talked
- 14:13about that. Did we?
- 14:14Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so I, I generally like the
- 14:16Toby movies. I don't like their lack of tag
- 14:18lines. It's bullshit.
- 14:20Toby, hit me up if you need somebody to write, listen.
- 14:22We have a whole segment, baby. We'll write one for you this
- 14:25episode. Write.
- 14:26One, we don't normally do that for Toby movies, but because
- 14:29this is an original Toby, we will.
- 14:31We'll do it for you. OK, hit us up.
- 14:33Give us a brief, but or you know, you could just give us
- 14:36screeners too. We can do that also.
- 14:39But you know, hit us up, we'll give you some taglines.
- 14:41Throw that shit on your posters. It's great, it's fun.
- 14:44Everybody loves a good tagline. I've already got one in my mind
- 14:48right now all. Right.
- 14:49Cool. That makes sense.
- 14:50Do you want to let's do the tagline now.
- 14:51Let's do it now because we don't have any to talk about.
- 14:54Go ahead, go for it. Well, it's really stupid and it
- 14:58would never fly, but it's I feel the need, the need for Scream.
- 15:04OK, OK, I'll take it. My mine is You're a little
- 15:10pitchy, You're a little pitchy. You're a.
- 15:16Little pitchy, OK. OK.
- 15:20So yeah, are we ready? Cuz this is to be or not to be.
- 15:23We don't have all of the background stuff.
- 15:25Yeah, we're on into discussion. So we're on into discussion.
- 15:29It is your turn to kick it off. What is your good for this
- 15:32movie? All right, please.
- 15:34Tell me one of them is the mask. I was dying to ask you how you
- 15:37feel about the mask. You're such a mask person.
- 15:39I really do like the mask. This is actually one of the
- 15:42movies that I've actually come close to picking it for A to be
- 15:45or not to be for us, but I I've just always found something else
- 15:49that. That it's been on our list,
- 15:52honestly for probably like a year.
- 15:53Since it came out, I'd say yeah. And year and a half then yeah,
- 15:57like it's so, yeah, the mass is cool.
- 16:00So that is a good thing. And I really like the idea of
- 16:07somebody taking their victims and getting them in a recording
- 16:12booth and getting them to scream and like die and like using that
- 16:17for their compositions. It's so deranged.
- 16:20It's a really cool idea, Yeah. So that's my good.
- 16:23OK, this movie, when we refer to to be trash or just trash movies
- 16:33in general, this is the kind of shit I think about.
- 16:35Yeah. Like, this could be.
- 16:38If you told me this was a new Vista movie, I wouldn't be
- 16:41surprised. Mar Vista.
- 16:42Mar Vista, Yeah. I thought new Vista.
- 16:45I don't that's a whole other thing.
- 16:47That's like a Disney thing, I think.
- 16:49No, New Vista is a local thing in town.
- 16:52Oh, really? Oh well, whatever.
- 16:54No, it I was honestly expecting to see the logo for that.
- 16:58Yes, if you told me this was a Mara Vista movie, I would not be
- 17:02surprised. And I mean that as a genuine
- 17:04compliment, because from Thanksgiving to Christmas, we
- 17:09like a healthy dose of our movie watching is Mara Vista.
- 17:13Yep, and they have a handful of horror movies.
- 17:16Because The thing is these movies, and it's a compliment.
- 17:18It is such a compliment, but they're, they're goofy.
- 17:22They're they're good bad or bad good or whatever you want to
- 17:25talk about. They're and they're good.
- 17:26Bad is the right. Way.
- 17:28Yeah, because they yes, technically there is a story in
- 17:33a plot. The acting levels are mixed.
- 17:37The way scenes connect to each other sometimes makes sense.
- 17:43It's just it's one of those that like, you watch and you're like,
- 17:47this makes no sense. But whatever, I'm here and I'm
- 17:49enjoying the goddamn ride. And not in the same way as like
- 17:51other movies where it's like a suspension of disbelief.
- 17:54You're just like dude, this is made on a shoestring budget with
- 17:56a dream. All you got, like all you got to
- 17:59do if you need to picture this in your head, is have you ever
- 18:02tuned into the Lifetime or Hallmark Channel?
- 18:07If yes, think of one of those movies.
- 18:09And that's exactly the type of production you get with this.
- 18:12And that's The thing is that Mara Vista does do does do
- 18:17horror movies. Yeah, they've done a few.
- 18:19Yeah, and it it feel this feels like it could fit right into it.
- 18:23And we have fun with those and I just, I enjoy them.
- 18:26I don't think that like objectively, like it's not gonna
- 18:29win awards. You know what I'm?
- 18:30Yeah. But like, I didn't, I didn't get
- 18:34bored watching it. You know what I mean?
- 18:36Like it's one of those that like, it's silly fun.
- 18:39And I think that it it had some good moments, like some good
- 18:42effects, like some scary moments, like the thing with the
- 18:45they reveal with the walkie-talkie and then them
- 18:48using that to like, blow out his eardrum.
- 18:50Like, that's really solid. Yeah.
- 18:52And the mask is honestly, it is really creepy.
- 18:56Yeah. He looks like that one villager,
- 18:59an Animal Crossing the rabbit with the like hollow eyes and a
- 19:03malice. That creeps.
- 19:04Me out. Yeah, he's kind of like the
- 19:07gyroid. Yeah, and the gyroids freak me
- 19:10out, too. Yeah.
- 19:11Yeah. Like, it's just, it's, it's
- 19:14good. Yeah.
- 19:15Yeah, yeah. So those are the things that I
- 19:17like and I like what they were able to do with the budget that
- 19:20they clearly didn't have, you know what I mean, like.
- 19:23Yeah, OK, so bad. So all right, here's my thing
- 19:31with this movie. So I like the premise.
- 19:35Like I said, I like the idea of that.
- 19:37However, I feel like they totally squandered it because
- 19:41they set it up right in the opening scene in like, we get it
- 19:47one more time in the end, yes, and then that's it.
- 19:51I would have loved for him to have been taking all of his
- 19:56victims to the little recording booth that he has and, you know,
- 20:00using them all. And you know, that's just such a
- 20:03cool concept, I don't understand why you would waste it like they
- 20:08do in this movie. What it ends up becoming is the
- 20:13most generic of slashers. And I love me a generic slasher.
- 20:17That's fine. But it does brought me a little
- 20:20bit wrong. Whenever you have that cool
- 20:24premise right there and you're already showing me what it can
- 20:27be, and then you're just like, but we're not gonna do that.
- 20:30Yeah. Instead, he's gonna be outside
- 20:32and he's just gonna be walkie talking them and he's got his RV
- 20:37out there and you know, he's just like doing very standard
- 20:41slasher fare kills. And then that's, that's that.
- 20:44And then we get to the end and it's like, here it is again.
- 20:47But you know, we're still not really gonna do it.
- 20:51And then it just it goes to waste and that frustrates me.
- 20:56Yes, it definitely based on that opening scene, I was expecting
- 21:01something much more like, I mean, not to scare bow it up too
- 21:05much, but like it does feel a little bit like it could have
- 21:08been a setup for like, OK, they're all set up.
- 21:10They have to play this game but match the notes.
- 21:12That's what I thought it was going to be like.
- 21:14They all, like all of his victims he brings there.
- 21:16And he's like, all right, hit this note, and then if you don't
- 21:18hit it, you die. Yeah.
- 21:20Which clearly is not not the case once.
- 21:23But eventually the whole thing builds up to you dying anyways
- 21:25and he gets the scream of your or the sound of your death and
- 21:30incorporates it into music. He composes based off of
- 21:34people's yes sounds. Yes.
- 21:37And that's so fucking cool. And they could have explored
- 21:40that and had they could have had the soundtrack be all kinds of
- 21:44shit like that. If they got like a composer and
- 21:47like, like compose some weird fucking music with these things
- 21:51here. And then that would have been a
- 21:53really good way to get like an uncomfortable feeling because
- 21:57when you listen to the music here, it's really creepy.
- 21:59We get shots of him listening to the music he has composed in his
- 22:02RV and I'm like, that's pretty upsetting stuff right there.
- 22:06I would like to have more of this.
- 22:07Absolutely. And sorry, one more.
- 22:10The only other thing is, and this is kind of going into what
- 22:13you were saying before, but like, you know, the performances
- 22:16and the writing are a little bit soapy.
- 22:18Yes, they're, yeah, they're very soapy.
- 22:20Yeah, they're very soapy. So, but that's that's not bad.
- 22:24I agree with that. And I'm just gonna add to it
- 22:27that I think the ending feels a little bit unearned because he.
- 22:32And here's The thing is that this movie tries to kind of like
- 22:34blink, nudge, nudge at horror trips.
- 22:37Like at the beginning when Shira is like Haiti when I stop and
- 22:41get a couple of 40s and art is like, oh, what?
- 22:45So that way the local hillbilly can tell us about the current
- 22:48urban legend. Yeah.
- 22:50And like, that was kind of fun. And then at the end when Caleb
- 22:53is like, oh, is it because of my strange relationship with my
- 22:59father? Is it because you took the land
- 23:01that my house was built on? Or is it just because I'm a
- 23:03psychopath that likes to listen to the sound of his victims?
- 23:06Yeah, We never. Really explored that whenever
- 23:09they he brings us up and like, OK, that's got to be like a
- 23:11really important thing here. But they didn't know.
- 23:13It's just like, yeah, they must have like taken his land at some
- 23:15point and it's just kind of whatever, yeah.
- 23:17And so. Like the ending of everything
- 23:18just kind of feels like unearned.
- 23:21It's like they. Put too many things in the end,
- 23:23yeah, Like, here are too many motivations for me to be mad at
- 23:27your family. And I'm not gonna pick either of
- 23:29them. Yeah, and it would be.
- 23:31Something if there was a hint that maybe he was responsible
- 23:34for Emilyn death too because she was also a.
- 23:37Singer, she's also. A member of the family they
- 23:38kept. Putting her in the story and
- 23:42bringing her up over and over again that I thought that he was
- 23:45gonna have some kind of relation to her.
- 23:47And if you don't do that, that's fine, but at least, you know,
- 23:50make it. Yeah, kind of have, like, tie it
- 23:54in somehow. Yeah.
- 23:56It doesn't have to be related to the killer.
- 23:58But like, really the only thing with Emily's like, they're there
- 24:01to spread her ashes. And her dad is there because
- 24:04he's, like, wanting her, his other daughter, to be his dead
- 24:09daughter. And it's, I don't know, very
- 24:12much like a golden. Child kind of situation which
- 24:14gets magnified with the death of that child.
- 24:17That's the same. That's the cool.
- 24:18I mean, OK, that's the thing about this movie.
- 24:20It had so many cool ideas. Yeah.
- 24:22It just didn't know what to do with any of them.
- 24:25And here's the thing. Is that we always say don't make
- 24:27the movie any longer than it needs to be.
- 24:29This is one of those movies that I think it needed to actually be
- 24:31a little longer maybe. Like, yeah, hey.
- 24:34It is a short. Movie, a little bit of time.
- 24:36To like flesh out some of these ideas or to cut out some of the
- 24:39ideas it needed to do one or the other, I think.
- 24:42If you made it a little bit longer, I don't know what they
- 24:44would do. They didn't know what they were
- 24:45going to do. They they never wanted to pick a
- 24:47lane. That's their thing.
- 24:49Like, I don't know. I don't know if it would have
- 24:52benefited from that or not. I really don't think it would
- 24:54have because they seemed really indecisive with the writing in
- 24:56this. OK.
- 24:58What's your ugly my? Ugly is the very controlling dad
- 25:04in this movie. He is really fucking shitty.
- 25:07He's just, he's writing his daughter about her singing
- 25:11career. She is an adult at this point.
- 25:13Like she shouldn't be having her life controlled by her dad to
- 25:18the extent that she is. And he is just so fucking
- 25:22furious with her that she's not doing what he wants her to do.
- 25:26And it's just, it's just not cool.
- 25:29Yeah. Well, and there's also the added
- 25:31element of her sister, who died in a crash, may or may not have
- 25:37been intoxicated. Substances.
- 25:40Involved, yeah, which I really thought that clip was going to
- 25:44go somewhere that like maybe he was responsible for the death
- 25:46but we never got anything with that.
- 25:48There was thread. Yeah.
- 25:51Like that added element to it, it's just, it's such a fucking
- 25:55heartbreaking thing. And then add on to it.
- 25:57Like, God, they're all fucking adults and there's still so much
- 26:03petty high school drama. Yeah, bullshit.
- 26:05Going on. That's the soapiness.
- 26:06Right there for me, Jesus Christ.
- 26:09Like you can have. That in horror movies and I'm
- 26:11totally on board but like to the way that they did it here don't
- 26:15make them full grown. Adults make them like college.
- 26:18Sophomores. Maybe I don't, yeah.
- 26:20I like do something something like that.
- 26:22Because like for Shearer to still be butt hurt that Declan
- 26:25dumped her right before prom. Like girl, you are at least 22
- 26:29years old. Who the fuck is so?
- 26:30Upset about that, yeah, You know what I mean?
- 26:32Like that's just like you get over that after you graduate
- 26:36college, you know, or like even if you don't go to college when
- 26:39you're at that age, like that should be a thing of the past
- 26:42over it because. Like you mature and you're like,
- 26:44holy shit, I was a dumb teenager too.
- 26:47And like this ultimately doesn't matter.
- 26:50You know it. Just like I was like, girl, are
- 26:53you really this mad over this? And like also you can be this
- 26:56mad over being dumped before prom but then you're going to go
- 26:59do several lines of cocaine Like you need to pick a lane like
- 27:04you. Need to decide.
- 27:05What your maturity level is Because I feel like a cocaine is
- 27:07an adult drug and you're not acting like an adult.
- 27:10That's true. Yeah.
- 27:13OK, Hey. I'm also sorry, we left The
- 27:15Hunger Games outside on and we turned the volume down, but
- 27:18apparently The Hunger Games decided that they also wanted to
- 27:21go hard. So if you're picking that up on
- 27:22the mics here, I'm sorry, she's trying.
- 27:25To go get presidents now and like, Finnick is probably dead
- 27:28by now. Sorry, spoiler if you haven't
- 27:30watched that movie in the 10 years since it's been out.
- 27:33Yeah, actually. I'm going to pause real quick
- 27:34and I'm going to like turn it down real quick.
- 27:36I'll be right back. Update Finnick is in fact, dead.
- 27:40I knew the sounds of the appropriate explosions.
- 27:42Not because I've watched the movies multiple, I mean I've
- 27:44watched the movies multiple times.
- 27:45But I read the books every year. I've watched the movies.
- 27:48Exactly one time and all I saw was somebody with a cat face out
- 27:51there and. It's not.
- 27:53Katniss. It's Tigris.
- 27:56OK. So did you have your ugly or?
- 28:01Were you riffing with me? I was riffing.
- 28:03Off of your ugly, but I do think I wanna kind of like add the
- 28:06whole like just like the toxicity of this friend group.
- 28:11It's a really shitty friend group.
- 28:12Yeah, there's like a. Lot of elements going on because
- 28:14it seems like Artemis and Emily were really close and it's kind
- 28:20of 1 and I get this because I've been in a similar thing where
- 28:23like siblings friends become your friends and like that all
- 28:27happens but you know there's their friends that are really
- 28:29friends with the like 1 sibling versus the other.
- 28:34So like, there's there's a lot of like in these types of friend
- 28:38groups, especially when you go through a certain formative age
- 28:40with one another, because become very entangled in ways that are
- 28:45not always super healthy. And unfortunately, because of
- 28:48the events of this movie, they don't really get to work through
- 28:50that stuff together in a functional way.
- 28:54Yeah. OK.
- 28:56Absurd. I thought that was the.
- 28:59Oh no, that was still the ugly. OK, absurd.
- 29:01You, you go. So my absurd is so we're getting
- 29:07into a point of the movie here, but the dad has a suspicion that
- 29:14his daughter may have taken his daughter's ashes with her to
- 29:20this trip to the cabin. So in order for him to know for
- 29:23sure, he takes his finger, dips it in the little vase of ashes
- 29:29and then licks it. And he's lucky that it's
- 29:35actually brownie mix, but Can you imagine if this dude fucking
- 29:41licked his dead daughter's ashes like that?
- 29:44How many times? Has he smelled the ashes?
- 29:46How many times has? He licked them.
- 29:49Does he have a? Baseline, I think that's
- 29:50definitely ashes. That's definitely her ashes.
- 29:55Has he licked a brownie mix before?
- 29:57Like raw brownie mix? How does he know this stuff?
- 30:03It's absurd. What the fuck is this mean?
- 30:06No it. Absolutely is.
- 30:07And I'm gonna add to that that like there was definitely still
- 30:10his daughter's ashes in that urn because I don't think yeah.
- 30:13You're. Right it out.
- 30:15He probably. Still had some like and.
- 30:18Also, I'm gonna say Emily's ashes were gonna be scattered
- 30:20with like some Folgers too with a little bit of.
- 30:23Coffee which like for. Sure how I wanna go.
- 30:26Like yeah, he scatter me with coffee, but not Folgers.
- 30:30Yeah, like, but it's funny though.
- 30:32Man like cuz. Hashes are typically put into
- 30:35very sterile containers and in the fact, like if they're being
- 30:39split up, you can even see them in like pill bottles and stuff.
- 30:42If you were to do like same keepsake, like jewelry, yeah,
- 30:46there's a lot of things. You can do with Familia, but
- 30:48yeah that like. Even goes into like pill bottle
- 30:50type stuff. Yeah, but you never.
- 30:52Want to stick your finger in and that's like.
- 30:55That's just such a gamble. You know what I mean?
- 30:57I want everybody. Listening to understand that we
- 30:59were watching this in horror, but not the kind of horror you
- 31:02want when you're watching horror and.
- 31:05We're like he. Is not.
- 31:07Like I mean. What if he's wrong, right He he
- 31:10runs the risk of that happening. Like here's the.
- 31:13Thing, I eat a lot of fucking brownies and my mom ate brownies
- 31:16when she was pregnant with me and it's like a tradition that
- 31:18I've continued since utero, you know what I mean?
- 31:21Yeah. I hope my.
- 31:24Ashes would smell like brownies and I hope that you wouldn't
- 31:27sniff them and decide that I'd been replaced with brownie mix.
- 31:31And just like I, just I. Just don't.
- 31:33I don't even know how you know what brownie mix tastes like.
- 31:36It doesn't probably taste like brownies because it's just
- 31:38powder at that point. Yeah, it's like.
- 31:40Overly sweet. It does taste chocolatey, but it
- 31:44doesn't. Like, you're not like, man, this
- 31:45is Betty Crocker. Yes, I used to work in a food
- 31:47factory. We made brownie mix.
- 31:49There were actually, because it's in the fucking air, dude.
- 31:53You come home covered in that shit.
- 31:55And I used to have to get into the equipment.
- 31:56It was called a chocolate clean down because you have to like
- 31:58clean the equipment very thoroughly before you can go
- 32:01back to doing non chocolate products.
- 32:03And I would have to get into the equipment to clean the stuff
- 32:05out. I'm concerned.
- 32:06About the amount of brownie mix you may have inhaled a lot
- 32:10which. Is why my ashes will probably
- 32:12smell like brownie mix and I don't want you to stick your
- 32:15finger in them and lick them when I die.
- 32:18The temptation. 'S there.
- 32:21Maybe his dad or her dad had the same thing.
- 32:25She worked in the factory. What a brownie.
- 32:28Mix in there maybe I'm smelling the ashes right now.
- 32:32I'm getting a hand, but it's not it's inconclusive.
- 32:35I think I'm imagining. It like a wine tasting like
- 32:37there's notes of brownie and is that and in fact it is walnut.
- 32:42Perhaps this is a trutal brownie?
- 32:45And then? OK.
- 32:47Did you have any other absurd? No, that was.
- 32:49That's the absurd. It truly is.
- 32:51You can't top it in this movie. Yeah, there's no.
- 32:54Other moment that's I, I'd say like the next like, but it's
- 32:57asked here, right? I don't think we even have like
- 33:00an A tier below that. Like the next one would be the
- 33:04guy in the car, which this was clearly done in multiple takes.
- 33:07And whoever edited it wasn't paying attention because the
- 33:11like that random couple that just gets killed in the back of
- 33:13the RV because like, I can't wait to show you this place,
- 33:15babe. And she goes, yeah, I'm really
- 33:16excited. And then when they pull up and
- 33:18they're getting out of the RV, he goes, I can't wait to show
- 33:20you this place, babe. And she goes, yeah, I'm really
- 33:22excited. I.
- 33:27Know I want that to be the entire car, right?
- 33:32He's like, I can't wait to show you this place, babe.
- 33:34I know, I can't wait to see it. Babe, I can't wait to show you
- 33:37this. Place, babe, I can't wait.
- 33:42Oh my God. I.
- 33:43Hope that was their entire ride. They.
- 33:48Up until they actually see it. Except they never.
- 33:51Do because they die. Also, where were they going?
- 33:54Because it's implied that the Crane House is the only house
- 33:57out there that's so. Fucking stupid.
- 34:00Oh my God, I didn't even catch that.
- 34:02Yeah. It's like this conversation just
- 34:06happened. That's hilarious.
- 34:10Oh fuck this movie. On that note, what?
- 34:15Are you rating it? You might not like me for this,
- 34:19but I'm I'm giving it a three. A three.
- 34:21Yeah, I'm giving it a 6.5. OK, so that's a 4.75 average.
- 34:30That's actually right. Online with IMDb.
- 34:33Yeah, yeah, I like I said, I think it's just one of those
- 34:37like the perfect encapsulation of like what we look for with to
- 34:40be trash for me, like, yeah, really, it's easy watching
- 34:43because it's interesting the whole way through, but it's God
- 34:46damn silly and makes no sense. Oh yeah.
- 34:48It's not objectively. Good, but it's subjectively fun.
- 34:53For me. Yeah, OK.
- 34:55Yeah. All right.
- 34:55Well then let's let's talk about it.
- 34:57Let's let's get this thing started, OK?
- 35:00All right. So we start off with the masked
- 35:04person. He has a woman.
- 35:06He's a tie down keyboard too. This isn't even a full Casio.
- 35:10It's kind of sad, yeah. Yeah, I wish she had like one of
- 35:13the like little like weird things where you like has like
- 35:16the little tube you have to blow in in order for it to play
- 35:19melodica. No.
- 35:21That's like the little like they're shaped like music notes.
- 35:24Oh. Well, it.
- 35:26Might be the same thing, actually.
- 35:28Yeah, actually, it might be what it's called.
- 35:30Yeah. No, my friend actually had one.
- 35:32Yeah, I know. What?
- 35:33You're thinking of the little music note thing.
- 35:36Yeah, he. Like, we used to fuck around
- 35:39with it all the time. It would make like, you know,
- 35:40like fun, little interesting. Yeah.
- 35:43That has the. Yeah, I, you know, I think it
- 35:45would be hilarious if he had like, a little melodica here.
- 35:47But yeah, yeah. He's got a little tiny keyboard
- 35:49setup. Yeah, got her tied down with
- 35:52barbed wire and he's hitting a note and she's having to hit the
- 35:55note. Yeah.
- 35:56And he eventually gets to a note that she can't hit, and she is
- 36:01reluctant to try. And then she eventually does and
- 36:05she fucks it up. So she goes over to the guy and
- 36:09Oh yeah, there's a guy across the yeah from her, too.
- 36:11This gay has no stakes. Because like it's like as soon
- 36:14as you get a wrong note, it's like dead.
- 36:16Like why aren't we? Like I don't even.
- 36:18Think it's a game cuz I think the end goal is dead yeah I.
- 36:21Get that? But I don't know if he was
- 36:23really trying to make his magnum opus or whatever, wouldn't he, I
- 36:27don't know, pull some fingernails or clip some toes
- 36:31off? You know what I mean?
- 36:33Draw out the torture. I'm not.
- 36:35Isn't it a sadist? I just, I watched a lot of
- 36:38horror movies from this particular subgenre.
- 36:41A lot more thought into this than the fucking serial killer
- 36:45did. That's telling right there.
- 36:48But you're correct, that would be the best way to go about
- 36:51this. But yeah, he doesn't.
- 36:53So if you hit the wrong no. And if the other person screams,
- 36:57that means that the person across from them gets cut.
- 37:01And then. So that's what he does.
- 37:03He goes over to the guy. He cuts him a few times, and
- 37:05then he slashes his throat. Yeah.
- 37:06And he records his sound of death and his screams.
- 37:10And that's what he's going to use to compose later.
- 37:11And then he does the same to the woman over there.
- 37:13She gets killed. And their names are Harper.
- 37:16And Will, because this is A to be original, they know the
- 37:18characters names when they're doing the closed captioning.
- 37:21So it's like Harper screams and I'm like, who the fuck is
- 37:23Harper? Yeah.
- 37:24And. We almost had this.
- 37:26So it it gave us the name of the killer.
- 37:28Caleb. Yeah.
- 37:29And we didn't. Know that, but we got like him
- 37:31laughing or like, you know, composing like sounds of him
- 37:34like Caleb. Slashes or whatever, and we're
- 37:36like, dude, I hope Caleb's not like one of those yeah, friends
- 37:39or something. Yeah, like B, it's really it's.
- 37:44They don't spoil anything, thankfully.
- 37:46But yeah, it's still a little bit annoying that I knew that
- 37:48little nugget of information. Here's the.
- 37:50Other thing too is that like, I'm grateful they didn't spoil
- 37:52anything, but now it's like anytime we watch it to be
- 37:54original, if it doesn't name the killer part of me, it's going to
- 37:57be like, OK, well then it's somebody in our main cast, you
- 38:00know what I mean? Maybe, maybe they'll still.
- 38:01Do it. That's awesome.
- 38:02I don't. Know maybe they'll fuck it up OK
- 38:05so then we cut to like we have our title card yeah our.
- 38:12Title card. Yeah.
- 38:13And we get a little drunk shot of car driving on the road in
- 38:18the wilderness. It's Artemis and Shira, and
- 38:23they're talking about all kinds of exposition.
- 38:25And when I say. Artemis and Shira.
- 38:27I picture Artemis from It's Always Sunny and Shira.
- 38:34What a combo. I know wouldn't.
- 38:35You want to be on that road trip?
- 38:37No, I don't want to be anywhere. Near Artemis and It's Always
- 38:42Sunny. She is a weird fucking person.
- 38:45I she's. One of those that like would I
- 38:48want to be on a road trip? No Would I definitely do a few
- 38:51shots and maybe like dance with her at a bar?
- 38:56No. Yes.
- 38:57No, I am staying far. Away from that.
- 39:01So. They're giving all kinds of
- 39:03exposition here. Artemis has some auditions for
- 39:07some kind of singing gig and she's ditching them, and Shira
- 39:11has some kind of interview for some kind of comic book comic.
- 39:15Yeah. But she just ditched it and you
- 39:18know, they're both not really pursuing what they had career
- 39:21wise going on. Yes, they're.
- 39:23Both very much like avoiding. They're like avoiding,
- 39:27basically. For Shira it's avoiding
- 39:30rejection for something that she's wanted for so long, and
- 39:32for Artemis it's like both avoiding rejection because it
- 39:36sounds like she's been rejected, but also avoiding being turned
- 39:39into her dead sister that she's literally never going to be able
- 39:42to live up to at this point. Avoiding doing the.
- 39:44Thing that she doesn't really want to do with her life, Yeah,
- 39:47she says. She wants to quit it and that it
- 39:49was her dad and Emily's dreams, not hers.
- 39:52Yeah. So the dad calls in to check.
- 39:55Yeah, he thinks that. She's going to an audition and
- 39:58he's like, you should be auditioning for a National
- 40:00Opera. Are there national operas?
- 40:03I understand. Like, I get it, we live in
- 40:06Kentucky and we're probably uncultured, but like are like
- 40:09operas a thing that we have a fucking.
- 40:11Opera House in our town and we've never seen an.
- 40:13Opera in at Travis. That's true.
- 40:15We. Saw Goblin there.
- 40:16Yeah, exactly. Yeah, we we saw Italian prog
- 40:20rock. Yeah.
- 40:21Accompanying de Monet, De Monet, yeah.
- 40:25Which is even funnier because it's not like Argento doesn't
- 40:28have a fucking movie called. Opera, you're right.
- 40:32Yeah, but he didn't compose that.
- 40:36I don't know if. No, I don't think that they did
- 40:37that. Yeah, I really don't know.
- 40:39Yeah. Right.
- 40:40So anyways, yeah, he he scolds her about that and it's like,
- 40:44make sure you hit your. Vibrata and the final movement
- 40:47or whatever, yeah. So they.
- 40:50Arrive at the place they're going to, like the little summer
- 40:53cabin that the families have back in the day.
- 40:55Yeah, and the signal. Is lost, which is important
- 40:58because like the dad comes out into the kitchen and asks the
- 41:01mom like, hey, did we lose a signal when we were at like in
- 41:06South Carolina for that wedding? And she's like, what the fuck?
- 41:08Why would you? Ask me that and he's like, well,
- 41:10I was just, I was. Talking to art, Art about her
- 41:13audition. And she goes, I hope you didn't
- 41:14write her about the Barbarotto. And he was like just looking out
- 41:18for her. And she was like, she's not
- 41:19Emily. And he was like, because she
- 41:21doesn't apply herself. And she goes, Emily's dead and
- 41:24they have like marital problems. Yeah, Well, he's.
- 41:26Like, yeah, like you didn't write her as hard as you wrote
- 41:29Emily. And he's like, whoa, look, all
- 41:31that's are not for her or no you're writing.
- 41:33Her harder than you wrote Emily Oh yeah, yeah, and.
- 41:35Then that's what he said and she goes unbelievable.
- 41:39I just I didn't mean that he says a lot of things that he
- 41:42supposedly doesn't mean in this movie.
- 41:43He does that and then. Every single time he does that,
- 41:45he goes over to the little case and he looks at the.
- 41:48Shrine of Emily and he's like he.
- 41:52Just that's like, his whole life, I think.
- 41:53Yeah. Like, he's like, when he gets
- 41:55home from work, like, he just, like, puts his bags on the
- 41:57counter and just goes over there and just looks at it.
- 42:00And maybe he's like, I wonder what the mash tastes like?
- 42:03It is a beautiful shrine and I get it because it's not like I
- 42:06don't have like my own areas like that, but like.
- 42:11Also. Yeah.
- 42:13Yeah, it's it's it's nice, but, you know, like it's a little bit
- 42:16weird. I imagine at this point.
- 42:18It's been there for years at this.
- 42:20Well, here's the thing. It's.
- 42:22Death is something that you never get over, and I can't even
- 42:24begin to conceptualize the death of a child.
- 42:28Yeah, I'm. Not saying that, I'm just saying
- 42:31I wouldn't stand at the thing 24/7 and then you know, bitch at
- 42:35like my loved ones about the whole thing.
- 42:38Yes, there's also. A point where you have to like
- 42:40assess how much your grief is impacting your day-to-day life
- 42:44and be like, do I need therapy? I went that route.
- 42:47I was like, hey, this has been a really hard time.
- 42:50Maybe I should talk to somebody because I'm kind of taking it
- 42:52out on the people around me and I feel like Thomas needs to get
- 42:57to that point. They seem kind of really fucking
- 42:59loaded, given that they have two homes and both of their
- 43:02daughters went to, like, prestigious arts private
- 43:06colleges. Yeah, that.
- 43:08And they don't even like it sounds like they haven't been to
- 43:11this place in a long. Yeah, like.
- 43:12They can just have a house that they don't even go to.
- 43:15Yeah. Must be like, so yeah, they
- 43:19arrived there and then we get a shot of this random couple that
- 43:23I can't wait to. Show you this place, yeah.
- 43:27And. She can't wait to see it.
- 43:31And they? They pull up at a fork in a road
- 43:35and they like park and they start to get out.
- 43:37I don't know, fucks over. Anybody else who might need to
- 43:40go down that particular road? Right, Yeah.
- 43:42And like, there's also. Like an RV parked here too and
- 43:46they're like whatever, I guess this is the parking spot.
- 43:48There's no way. Suspicious of this?
- 43:49You should always be suspicious of an RVI.
- 43:52Don't care. I don't care if you're in an RV
- 43:54campground on like an RV festival.
- 43:57Always be suspicious of a fucking RV.
- 43:59Always. Yeah, that's a good.
- 44:01Yeah, that's a good little bit like a negative information life
- 44:04to suggest. Yeah.
- 44:06Because in this case, we get this dude, He's just chilling
- 44:09and they're listening to music that he's composed of people,
- 44:11screams. You know what this is?
- 44:13Another good tagline. Always be suspicious of RV's.
- 44:16That's true too. That's a good one.
- 44:17Yeah. And we just cut from there.
- 44:20We don't see what happens here. So they are back at the cabin
- 44:26there. Art and Cher.
- 44:27As they're walking there, they're kind of looking around.
- 44:32Artemis has this moment where she goes upstairs and looks at
- 44:34all of Emily's stuff and it's really sad.
- 44:36She's having a hard time with it as.
- 44:39Obviously would and. Then she decides she's going to
- 44:41take Shira to their tree house and on the way they find a bear
- 44:45trap. And she goes, this is private
- 44:47property, used to be like a a trailer park and then some
- 44:52development company bought it and like, turned it into like a
- 44:55submarine area for rich white people.
- 44:58Yeah, well. Also, I think before then even
- 45:02they had like a little montage where they were cleaning.
- 45:06Yeah, we. Did have a cleaning montage,
- 45:07yeah. And then when they.
- 45:08Do that they find a memory card and they put it into the laptop
- 45:13and they try to access it, but it's encoded or encrypted, so
- 45:17they can't get in because they don't know the password.
- 45:19Yeah, and they also mentioned Alex is coming and what's her
- 45:25face? What's the fucking lead's name?
- 45:28Artemis. Artemis Yeah, yeah.
- 45:29She's not thrilled about it. She's like.
- 45:31Promise me you won't do any hard stuff.
- 45:33This is, you know, we're here to spread Emily's ashes.
- 45:36This is what she wanted. This is what she asked me to do
- 45:37before she died. Which also is kind of confusing
- 45:40because it implies that she had, like, some terminal disease and
- 45:43knew she was going to die. Yeah.
- 45:45And instead she died in like a random accident, Yeah, but that.
- 45:49People say shit like that, you know I'm true.
- 45:52Yeah, It's. True.
- 45:53I've told you what I want you to do with my remains.
- 45:56Exactly. Yeah, you've.
- 45:57Told me so. I know exactly that.
- 45:59I'm in the same boat. Yeah.
- 46:00You know, so. Yeah.
- 46:02OK, so that. And then they go to the tree
- 46:04house. Yes.
- 46:06Then we cut back to Thomas looking at Emily's memorial
- 46:10again. And then the mom comes out and
- 46:12she's like, oh, by the way, Artemis is quitting singing, and
- 46:15she's not actually in her audition.
- 46:16And he's like, you knew this. I don't even.
- 46:19Know what prompted her to bring this up and then?
- 46:23He's like, where is she in? Because she's visiting Shira in
- 46:26the city. What city?
- 46:29The. City Well doesn't she mention
- 46:32being in LA? She moved to LA is what she said
- 46:34she does, but they. Don't seem like they're in
- 46:36California. And also this audition was
- 46:39supposedly in South Carolina and they surely were not driving
- 46:41from California to South Carolina.
- 46:44That's. True.
- 46:45Yeah, Dad would have put. Her on business class for this
- 46:47audition. You know what I mean?
- 46:48Like, yeah. All right, so well, he's not
- 46:52paying for the trip there. He would have paid to a trip in
- 46:54another place, but that's what I'm.
- 46:56Saying, is that like if you thought she was really going to
- 46:58this audition, I'd be like, I bought you a business class
- 47:00ticket. No.
- 47:00Yeah, True. OK.
- 47:01You'd really call me? From the plane.
- 47:05OK, so they are. We get more shots of the killer
- 47:09doing some editing and show like that.
- 47:11And then like the dad storms off.
- 47:13He's like gonna go figure out where she is and he's trying to
- 47:16call her. So we cut.
- 47:19To the cabin, and Theo and Declan arrived.
- 47:22Yeah. These guys, Theo brought his.
- 47:25Mobile satellite. He's got a start up with his
- 47:28husband. They do tech stuff.
- 47:32It's. Just so little thing here for
- 47:35the plot, and they make it so obvious because he's like, he
- 47:38gets up there and he sets it up later on and he's like, I'm
- 47:41going to need this thing's going to go in and out every few
- 47:43hours. Yeah, he's like I'm going to.
- 47:44Have to reconfigure it every couple of hours and I wrote that
- 47:47down because I was like, this is going to be important later.
- 47:50It's so. Obvious, but also man if that's
- 47:53how you're all companies fucking running, you all aren't going to
- 47:57do too good. Did say it was still.
- 47:58Like in beta or whatever. Yeah, so still and Alex also
- 48:03arrives. Shira is excited to see her.
- 48:05Artemis and Declan are not. Declan is also anti Alex.
- 48:09Yeah, there's like a. History between Declan and
- 48:11Artemis here they used to go out I guess.
- 48:13No Declan used. To go out with Shira.
- 48:15So I think Alex maybe doesn't like Declan after the breakup,
- 48:19OK. That's a weird thing.
- 48:21You would think it would be the other way around.
- 48:23Here's The thing is. The way that, like, Declan is
- 48:26portrayed as this, like, naive little sweet Angel baby that,
- 48:30like, has never seen the outside world, you know what I mean?
- 48:33But then it's the background is that he dumped Shira right
- 48:36before prom so he could date college chicks.
- 48:40Yeah, their terminology, not mine.
- 48:44And that just doesn't seem like his character.
- 48:47You want to know what I thought? I thought that he was maybe
- 48:50named after Declan O'Brien. I love that.
- 48:54Yeah, I love that head cannon. I hope that's the.
- 48:57Case. I hope that is the case.
- 48:58Actually, I love it. Like, it's not uncommon for
- 49:01horror writers and directors to name their characters after
- 49:04other horror people. Exactly, that's what.
- 49:07I thought, and you know, he he put a stamp out there.
- 49:09He did, yeah. Declan O'Brien O'Connor missed
- 49:12throvia to you. What if we had?
- 49:14Like a requiem for a hoot. Requiem.
- 49:17Requiem and then the sequel is Requiem.
- 49:20For a holler. I love that Declan.
- 49:24O'Brien O'Connor we miss you, And for those that.
- 49:27Aren't aware we're talking about the wrong turn movies that he
- 49:29did which involves I Ride 3. Yeah, which?
- 49:33Involves a lot of hooten and holler a lot of hooten and.
- 49:35Holler in in several other explicit things, yeah, so.
- 49:40OK. They have busted out the
- 49:42satellite at this point. He's put it up on the roof and
- 49:44then they're going to start drinking and having fun.
- 49:47Yeah. And.
- 49:48Everybody's like, sorry I missed Emily's funeral.
- 49:49Sorry I missed Emily's funeral, sorry I missed Emily's funeral.
- 49:52Some of the excuses seem genuine because feels like, yeah, just,
- 49:56you know, between starting a brand new tech company and my
- 49:59mom's back surgery where she needed me to help her recover,
- 50:03seems like. Too many excuses.
- 50:05I pick one because if you're giving me like all kinds of
- 50:08reasons, I'm going to be like you say, Mom's back sort.
- 50:11Of be like, I get it, Yeah, I get that, yeah.
- 50:13And then Alex. Is like, yeah, I was just so
- 50:15busy with my Etsy store and arts like really, what's your Etsy
- 50:18store selling Alex? And she goes chakra bracelets.
- 50:21Oh my God. Yeah, Alex, they.
- 50:24They do a good job setting her up as like, a person that you
- 50:26should hate. But if she's obnoxious, yeah,
- 50:29like. I'm like, dude, I want, I want
- 50:31to like her because I feel like they're sitting her up for some
- 50:36sort of a redemption arc and it never comes.
- 50:39I never got that. Impression I feel like.
- 50:41I've been conditioned by movies to be like, OK, she is clearly
- 50:44the bad, like the bad friend. Whatever.
- 50:47Some bad history there. We're going to get some big
- 50:50revelation and she's going to have a moment where she
- 50:52sacrifices herself. It never fucking comes, sorry,
- 50:55in slash movies. Every group of friends has the
- 50:58shit friend and they set her up to be the shit friend.
- 51:01Yep, And that's exactly what she was.
- 51:03Yep. Yeah, then they take some
- 51:05drinks, they go outside. Artemis is on a giant fucking
- 51:08swing. And when I say it's a giant
- 51:10swing, I mean like three of them could have sat side by side on
- 51:14it. Yeah, Yeah, they have like a
- 51:16little. Moment her and Declan and he's
- 51:19like get your ass in the swing over here.
- 51:22Literally. Yeah, it's like very aggressive
- 51:27and uncomfortable flirting between them.
- 51:29Yeah, it's. It's really strange and she is
- 51:32watching. And it's unclear if she's angry
- 51:34at Declan or Artemis. And then Alex is like, hey, do
- 51:37you want to go do some blow? And Theo is just doing his own
- 51:41thing, kind of in the background.
- 51:43Yeah. So they go in there and they, so
- 51:47she comes back later and then she catches them, like kind of
- 51:50doing it. But she's like, what's up with
- 51:52you guys? Oh, nothing.
- 51:53We're just saying, you know? Yeah, we did.
- 51:55Have a quick cutaway to Caleb realizing that one of his memory
- 51:57cards is missing. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 51:59That's the catalyst right there for him to go over there and be
- 52:01like, I need my memory card. Yes, we did.
- 52:04See, like a brief moment when they found the memory card
- 52:06earlier, we saw a flashback to the beginning when Harper had
- 52:09like, knocked over the equipment and the memory card scattered.
- 52:12Yeah, that's true. Yeah, so we do.
- 52:14Know that this was the house that they were killed in.
- 52:16He did. He did a very good job cleaning.
- 52:18He did. Which is also kind of weird
- 52:20because we had their whole cleaning montage with the dust
- 52:22and everything. That's true, yeah.
- 52:24There's double cleaning right there.
- 52:25Yeah. All right.
- 52:26So Declan finds a karaoke machine, so he's gonna go bust
- 52:29that shit out because that's a good thing to do.
- 52:32And this is also a movie about making music, so fuck it.
- 52:35That's that feels appropriate. Yeah.
- 52:37Theo sees Alex and Shira doing their drugs and Alex is like,
- 52:43hey, the movie stopped, which means the signals probably out.
- 52:45Can you go fix the satellite? I don't feel like this is.
- 52:47I've never been around I say that.
- 52:50I've never. Been around people that I know
- 52:52have just done cocaine, but I feel like this is more people
- 52:56that are very. Have you known?
- 52:59Some cocaine I'm. Saying that, I've never been
- 53:02around people that I know have just done cocaine.
- 53:05OK, but you've been? Around people that you know,
- 53:07that did cocaine, that's something around, yes, at some
- 53:11point wise, OK, I'm saying like people.
- 53:12That I know, like just did it OK.
- 53:15But. Like their portrayal seems more
- 53:17like they just like smoked weed and are like super giggly.
- 53:21I don't know, they almost kind of play it as like super drunk
- 53:26or that. Yeah, like either way, it
- 53:28doesn't feel like what you think of when you think of like high
- 53:31on coke. No, Coke is.
- 53:32Supposed to be super like, energetic and yeah, you know.
- 53:35You're going you. Know what I mean?
- 53:37Yeah, you're amped up, but that's not what they are.
- 53:39They're like giggly. Yeah.
- 53:40And like we do. Know for a fact it's cocaine
- 53:42because a, we see them like literally snore and B, they make
- 53:45a Scarface reference. Yeah, and.
- 53:47They are safe. Like it's blow.
- 53:49Yeah, so. Oh, and also, so while all this
- 53:52is happening, Artemis gets a call from dad and he because
- 53:58like Theo fixed the satellite, so she's got service and she's
- 54:01able to get the call now. Yeah.
- 54:03And they're. Like arguing and she's like, I'm
- 54:04not Emily. And he was like I didn't see you
- 54:06were. And then the cuckoo clock, the
- 54:09smoking gun cuckoo clock goes off in the background and that's
- 54:12like something that his dad made and apparently it's tacky and
- 54:16everybody hates it except for him.
- 54:17Can you imagine though? If she was just in a place that
- 54:19also had one and he drove all the way out there, it's like,
- 54:22fuck yeah. Like, and he's just going around
- 54:25like a completely dark and empty house, and he's going art a
- 54:27mess, yeah. Art a mess, yeah.
- 54:30I tasted them brownies because that's exactly what happens
- 54:34here. This is like he gets off the
- 54:35phone after scolding her and he's like, I'm going to go taste
- 54:37some brown. That's because I think she might
- 54:38have left over there. He knew the dying wish of her
- 54:42sister, his daughter. And here's the thing too.
- 54:44He goes, he drags the urn, he questionably tastes what's
- 54:48inside of it, and then he dumps their trash can onto their
- 54:51dining room table. What the?
- 54:54Fuck is wrong with this guy? A lot of.
- 54:56Things Remember what I said earlier about therapy?
- 54:59Yeah, yeah, If I. Were the wife in the situation?
- 55:02Like I would just leave a note after he got back saying I'm
- 55:05leaving. Yeah, like.
- 55:07We're not even together for the kids anymore, you know what I
- 55:10mean? Like, why am I still here?
- 55:12Yeah, you went over. There.
- 55:13And you ate brownies out of the urn.
- 55:16You ate our. Daughter, you ate.
- 55:19Brownies out of there and then you dumped trash on the fucking
- 55:24table. I'm through.
- 55:26Left her to clean. It up.
- 55:27Yeah, he did. Didn't he?
- 55:29This fucking guy sucks. Fuck this.
- 55:33Guy oh man, that would be so gone all right.
- 55:37So yeah, I guess he, we don't know it, but yeah, this is.
- 55:40I will say though. I like this shot because, like,
- 55:42as he's driving off, she's going Thomas, Thomas.
- 55:45And then it, like, transitions into the sound of, like, the
- 55:47screams from Caleb editing this stuff.
- 55:50That's cool. Yeah.
- 55:52And then the. Couple is tied up in the back of
- 55:54the RV and he he is like peeking in on Artemis and her friends
- 56:00and he decides he doesn't want anything to do with this couple,
- 56:03so he just bashes them with hammers.
- 56:04He's like, I'm not gonna record. Your all shit yeah because you
- 56:07see some singing karaoke like yeah he's like the.
- 56:08Chops. Yeah, he's like, they can
- 56:10actually do it well. That's here's the thing, Caleb,
- 56:13not because you do karaoke does not mean you know how to sing.
- 56:17You do karaoke because it's fun. They have the music.
- 56:19Playing over top and whatever they're actually singing are the
- 56:25same words as the song, but not happening at the same time as
- 56:28the actual words of the song. And it's just such a weird
- 56:31choice to, like, make that so obvious.
- 56:33Yeah, yeah. It was a well, that's the theme
- 56:37of this movie. Weird decisions.
- 56:39I don't know what you were thinking, but you all did it.
- 56:42Yeah. All right.
- 56:44So yeah, he sees that and he's he bashes them and he's like,
- 56:47all right, I'm gonna go in there.
- 56:48Yeah, we'll get them. Then we cut to the.
- 56:50Friends plane. Never have I ever.
- 56:52Shira is fucking trashed. She is.
- 56:55Yeah, she's fucked up. Yeah, she is over there, like
- 57:00swearing and knocking shit over. One of them is like never.
- 57:03Have I ever made out with a girl or whatever?
- 57:07And Artemis takes a drink and Cher's like, no, you haven't.
- 57:12And she goes, yeah, I know. Is it Jimmy Robinson's birthday
- 57:14party? And she's like, no, I wasn't
- 57:16there. That didn't happen.
- 57:17And it was like, yeah, it did. Everybody's like I remember.
- 57:20Depp was like Cher. We were all there.
- 57:23What? The fuck are you talking about?
- 57:25And. And Artemis goes, are you high?
- 57:28And like, cuz that's her best friend and she knows her and
- 57:30she's like the one promise, the one promise you made and like,
- 57:32they're trying to like take the drinks away from her.
- 57:34She stands up, she goes over to the mantle.
- 57:36She knocks over the can that has the in it, which of course,
- 57:41Emily freaks out. And Alex is like, it's not that
- 57:43big a deal. She goes, it is.
- 57:44It's got Emily's ashes in it, which Sheeran in.
- 57:47Yeah. And so they're all just, like,
- 57:49basically arguing with each other.
- 57:50And this is where we get the line.
- 57:52We're like sheer strums. Off and then she gets mad at
- 57:57Alex for pressuring her into doing cocaine and she's like,
- 58:00just like you did. With Emily, she goes.
- 58:03Maybe if you hadn't been so busy with your fucking chalker
- 58:05bracelets, you could have come to Emily's funeral.
- 58:08Maybe you need them so you can be a line and she goes I'm a
- 58:10line as fuck bits and she goes more like you're doing lines as
- 58:12fuck. Bitch.
- 58:13This is a good. Yeah.
- 58:14You were like, that was good, yeah.
- 58:17You're like, that was solid. Yeah, you.
- 58:19Can't come back from that one right there.
- 58:22Yeah, that was. Like all of the riding efforts
- 58:24for this movie when it's like he had that.
- 58:27Line. It's like, how do I write a
- 58:29movie around this? Around this?
- 58:31Exchange SO. Outside, Shira is smoking, and
- 58:39Caleb sneaks up behind her and slices her throat.
- 58:43Isn't it weird that he. Goes immediately to that, yeah.
- 58:46It's like. Like he's not doing his thing,
- 58:51yeah. Like I feel like there are
- 58:54probably more creative ways he could have gone.
- 58:56He went straight to like, chase a splash.
- 58:58In her throat. Yeah.
- 58:59Yeah, he. He like.
- 59:02It's fine every. Bridge.
- 59:03See, that's the. I mean, it's.
- 59:05Fine, if that's what you want to do with your slasher villain,
- 59:09but like his whole yeah, he had a thing before.
- 59:11Like hear their screams. Yeah, he.
- 59:12Had a thing like keep running with that thing man.
- 59:15But that's not what they do. But then it seems like.
- 59:17Maybe he's just doing it like for people that are singers.
- 59:20I don't know. The whole thing is very
- 59:22confusing. They don't.
- 59:23Establish that. Yeah, they really.
- 59:25Don't. I don't.
- 59:26Know all right, I mean. They did on like the files, it
- 59:29said. Like Will Tenor somebody else,
- 59:33soprano somebody else also? I thought he was.
- 59:35Rating them based off of how they actually sing.
- 59:38So like what? Their vocal?
- 59:40Range. Yeah, she was.
- 59:40Hitting Soprano, he was hitting Tinder.
- 59:43Yeah, that's that's how I took it at least.
- 59:45OK, but. I could be wrong.
- 59:47Yeah, I. Mean even if you're not a good
- 59:48singer, you're still gonna have like, you're gonna have a range.
- 59:51Yeah. All right.
- 59:53Anyways, so. They, they're all still arguing
- 59:57inside and everybody's like trying to like.
- 1:00:00You know, calm this shit down. And then they hear like a slap
- 1:00:04on the bottom of the patio door and it's Shira and they freak
- 1:00:08out. They get her inside and they're
- 1:00:09like trying to apply pressure and they're trying to call the
- 1:00:11cops, but the satellites down and they don't know what did
- 1:00:14this. And at first they do that like
- 1:00:16maybe it's an animal. I can't believe they.
- 1:00:18Went to What fucking animal is going to slit a throat like that
- 1:00:21right other than. The sloth from Slaughterhouse
- 1:00:23Alpha. True.
- 1:00:25Yeah. But that she would do it, yeah.
- 1:00:27Where's you in first? Yeah, yeah, because she's.
- 1:00:30Cute. Sorry, Jen, I'm.
- 1:00:31Cute. So yeah, so there's like, trying
- 1:00:35to apply pressure. They can't make a call.
- 1:00:36They can't go outside to fix the satellite because they don't
- 1:00:39know what did this. And then Shira ends up dying.
- 1:00:43And this is. Very traumatic.
- 1:00:45They have her covered up in a blanket and on the couch, which
- 1:00:48like cool, respectful of the body, but also standing the
- 1:00:52couch, standing the couch and now where are they going to sit?
- 1:00:56They all sit on the floor where she.
- 1:00:59Died she's. Dead man, put it.
- 1:01:03Just leave her on the floor, you know?
- 1:01:04Yeah, like. It's fine.
- 1:01:05Yeah. She would want you guys to be on
- 1:01:07the couch and to not have Thomas mad that you stay in the the
- 1:01:10couch. All right, So they're all like,
- 1:01:13wondering what the fuck kind of animal could have done that.
- 1:01:16And then as they're kind of questioning that, they get this
- 1:01:19like, they hear the killer. Yeah, there's like.
- 1:01:22A sound of a walk talkie talkie and it's in Shira's pocket,
- 1:01:25which we didn't see him like shove anything in her pocket, no
- 1:01:29and. Also, she's a.
- 1:01:30Tiny lady that was a jumpsuit we would have seen like a bulge she
- 1:01:34did have. A jumpsuit?
- 1:01:35Yeah, she didn't have pants. And again, women just don't have
- 1:01:38pockets. So yeah.
- 1:01:40How did they fit? How did they fit that
- 1:01:42walkie-talkie? He might.
- 1:01:43Just put it down in here like jumpsuit like.
- 1:01:46She's. Dead.
- 1:01:46I feel really uncomfortable. Her jumpsuit.
- 1:01:51But. He's radioing through.
- 1:01:53It's like, is she dead yet? And they're like, what?
- 1:01:55Who is this? And he's like, you have
- 1:01:58something go by and they're like, what?
- 1:02:00And he goes a memory card. So we didn't have to play any
- 1:02:03guessing game. I like that.
- 1:02:05We cut straight to the chase. And they're like, what memory
- 1:02:08card? And Artemis is like, oh, I know
- 1:02:10exactly where it is. And they're like, where is it?
- 1:02:12And my computer? So they go and get it.
- 1:02:14Yeah. And then Theo, apparently.
- 1:02:16Is this like tech quiz? Who is?
- 1:02:18Well, he's got a text, right? Yeah, which means.
- 1:02:21He's able to hack something. Yeah, they they laid that out
- 1:02:24very clearly. So he gets in.
- 1:02:27Immediately and then they start listening to the files well and
- 1:02:30like. As he's trying to get in, Declan
- 1:02:32and Artemis go to look for weapons, and I like how Artemis
- 1:02:35is surprised about the fact that there are tools in her own
- 1:02:38garage, I. Maybe he put them there because
- 1:02:42he's been living at the house, I guess so maybe.
- 1:02:45Where did you find these and he? Goes in the garage.
- 1:02:47She's like show me. And he goes.
- 1:02:49I brought the whole box here, bitch.
- 1:02:52Yeah. All right, so now they're
- 1:02:54they're all in there around the computer and they're listening
- 1:02:57to the files and they're just like songs composed of screams
- 1:03:00and shit. They're like this shit is.
- 1:03:01Not fire, no. No, not, not.
- 1:03:04Too great, dude. So Caleb tells them to look out
- 1:03:07the window and then he's like, hi.
- 1:03:09Just waving from the trees. Out here like a nice.
- 1:03:12Dramatic entrance. I need to have a side note for a
- 1:03:16second because the other day we let Talia in from going outside
- 1:03:19and she, like, ran in and we're like, hi, Talia.
- 1:03:21But like, it wasn't a big fanfare.
- 1:03:23Yeah, yeah. So she runs down the hall.
- 1:03:26We hear her like, and we hear her stop and we kind of hear a
- 1:03:30little shuffle as she turns around and then she runs back
- 1:03:33out and we're like. Yeah, that's.
- 1:03:35All she wanted, she just wanted like a big grand entrance.
- 1:03:37She wants fanfare. Yeah.
- 1:03:38And that's that's. What cable's doing, it's like,
- 1:03:41please applause, like I am, I am here.
- 1:03:43I mean, Caleb, do you think he could have?
- 1:03:45Like they could have. Gotten themselves out of this
- 1:03:47and they're like wow, this is awesome He's like do you really
- 1:03:49think so? Yeah, I think I'm.
- 1:03:51Like dude, you should put yourself on band camp.
- 1:03:53People who totally download it. I'm a producer.
- 1:03:56I can get you in the fucking studio with this shit.
- 1:03:59We're. Rich, do you wanna?
- 1:04:00Sign to my label. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:03Shit, yeah, they don't play the. Cards right there.
- 1:04:07Yeah, he's like. Upstairs there's a jewelry box
- 1:04:10with a ring. Take the ring out, put the
- 1:04:12memory card in and throw it out. And she's like, how do you know
- 1:04:15what's in here? And this is my house.
- 1:04:17And he goes, EU just occupy the space.
- 1:04:20OK, OK. Yep.
- 1:04:22So they're trying to come up with like a plan.
- 1:04:27She. Mentioned Artemis mentions that
- 1:04:28there's a flare in the tree house and that there was a cop
- 1:04:31station that they passed on their way in that's like 2 miles
- 1:04:34away or something. 5 miles. 5 miles and she's like, I'm not
- 1:04:37suggesting we run for it again. This movie is like trying to
- 1:04:39recognize the tropes and like get on again.
- 1:04:41He's like, I'm not recognizing that we run for it, but there's
- 1:04:45a flare gun in the tree house. They'll be able to see it.
- 1:04:47Why is there a flare gun in your children's tree house?
- 1:04:50That is a great. Question maybe it's for the dad
- 1:04:53like if you are in trouble flare me I'm.
- 1:04:56Sorry, but think about any of our nieces or nephews.
- 1:04:59Would you no tell them OK, exactly never.
- 1:05:03Exactly. You guys are not.
- 1:05:05Having anything? No, I can see.
- 1:05:08Any one of them being like, I'm just gonna test it out.
- 1:05:12Yeah, no. Good point.
- 1:05:16All right, so. So the plane.
- 1:05:17Is twofold. They're going to try and make a
- 1:05:19distraction so that way Theo can go up on the roof and fix the
- 1:05:23satellite and Artemis can run for the tree house for the flare
- 1:05:26gun. I have a question.
- 1:05:28Though, so they're planning this to do that, and the way that
- 1:05:32they go about doing that is by playing Night of the Living
- 1:05:36Dead, which, how are they playing?
- 1:05:37It because we've established that when they don't have a
- 1:05:39signal, they can't watch Night of the Living Dead you that is
- 1:05:41my. Question.
- 1:05:42Yes, how did that even happen? I don't know if it's.
- 1:05:45One of those things because it is from like an earlier part
- 1:05:47that it art they'd already watched.
- 1:05:49I wonder if it was like already buffered?
- 1:05:51Yeah, could be. That's my.
- 1:05:53Only guess but also I feel like Alex is the type of bitch that
- 1:05:58like closes out her windows you know what I mean?
- 1:06:01Her chakras are aligned. They can't be aligned if you've
- 1:06:04got like 78 open windows on your phone.
- 1:06:06That's a good point. She's also chaotic and coked up,
- 1:06:09yeah. Like, and she might be one of
- 1:06:11those, you know, the, the episode of American Dad, that
- 1:06:14Charlie Day guest voice on where he's like the meth addict, but
- 1:06:18he's also like, he needs all of his receipts for like his
- 1:06:20Sudafed and stuff. Yeah.
- 1:06:22I feel like that's. Alex.
- 1:06:25He might be onto something here. Either way, that's their plan.
- 1:06:28So they toss out the phone? Yeah.
- 1:06:31Theo kisses Declan right before he goes out because Declan is
- 1:06:34supposed to be holding the rope for him.
- 1:06:35This fault line came from out of nowhere and Declan, like I
- 1:06:37always knew you would have to do that.
- 1:06:40No, it was weird because like he just kisses him because like,
- 1:06:44Theo's gay and like they've established this.
- 1:06:46They were talking about like past sexual experiences it
- 1:06:48sounds like. He was married and.
- 1:06:50Declan is straight from all that we know from his character up to
- 1:06:54this point, and he's. Just been flirting hardcore with
- 1:06:57Artemis. It's just.
- 1:06:58It's weird that Theo would do this.
- 1:07:01Yeah, the whole thing. Feels very like like.
- 1:07:04It's just. Like I that right there is just
- 1:07:07really putting your friendship in jeopardy and it really feels
- 1:07:09like they're trying to. Give Theo this like, dramatic
- 1:07:11moment before he dies because he's like trying to acknowledge
- 1:07:14that he's worried he's going to die.
- 1:07:15It doesn't work. It would it would work if Declan
- 1:07:18was like by or closeted or some shit like that.
- 1:07:21But like hadn't mentioned. Theo being married.
- 1:07:24Yeah. And like, we'd seen any kind of,
- 1:07:26like, romantic spark between them.
- 1:07:28No, there were just phrases. Before there was.
- 1:07:30No chemistry beyond like there was no non platonic chemistry
- 1:07:34between them. Honestly, it's kind of fucking.
- 1:07:35Like weird to do that, to just like randomly kiss somebody like
- 1:07:39that. Yeah, You know what I mean.
- 1:07:40It like it would be. Weird if it was like a same sex
- 1:07:42couple too. Like if it was like the same.
- 1:07:44Kind of dynamic or I. Say same sex different.
- 1:07:47Like no, Yeah. Any type.
- 1:07:49Any type? Yeah, like if.
- 1:07:50You if it was like if you were. Like a friendship, you know what
- 1:07:53I mean? Like yeah, somebody like.
- 1:07:54Reaches over and kisses you like that, and you're like that.
- 1:07:58Like, not the vibe, man, that I've been putting down.
- 1:08:00We've just been friends, yeah, but I.
- 1:08:02Might die and I'm really sorry because this is really awkward
- 1:08:05because you feel like I've friend zoned you and now I kind
- 1:08:08of feel like you fuck zoned me. I don't know what to I don't
- 1:08:10know where to go from here and like maybe it's almost kind of a
- 1:08:13relief when Theo dies. He's like, I don't have to.
- 1:08:16Address that one. Yeah, like, yeah, like.
- 1:08:18Afterwards declan's like, I didn't want to say this, yeah.
- 1:08:23That was Theo kissed me. And I was very uncomfortable
- 1:08:26with it. And I'm glad that we just don't
- 1:08:27have to. Yeah.
- 1:08:28We're just not going to cross that bridge.
- 1:08:31Yeah. Which is a shame because I.
- 1:08:32Generally have liked Theo as a character because he's been the
- 1:08:34very level headed smart one for the most part and then for this
- 1:08:38like random turn right before he dies just sucks.
- 1:08:41It was just. A weird riding choice honestly.
- 1:08:43It really feels like. They were trying to like, have
- 1:08:45this impactful moment before he died and it just like it's a
- 1:08:47swing and a miss because they just shoehorned it in.
- 1:08:50Yeah, there was no. Chemistry.
- 1:08:51If there were, if there were little seeds dropped along the
- 1:08:55way, I'd be totally fine with it.
- 1:08:56But there was nothing. Yeah, there was nothing.
- 1:08:58A single thing. Nothing that land.
- 1:08:59Was barren, yeah. All right, so they tie like a
- 1:09:03rope around each other. So, like, he has a rope tied
- 1:09:06around him, and if the rope gets tugged, that means Declan knows
- 1:09:11that Theo's in trouble. Yeah, it feels very.
- 1:09:13Much like this is the end where Kurt's like, how are you gonna
- 1:09:15know to pull me? Because I'll scream.
- 1:09:16OK, let's practice. I know I.
- 1:09:21This is off topic, but the thing from that is whenever Craig is
- 1:09:25like all right, so if I'm in trouble, like I'm gonna pull and
- 1:09:28you guys pull me back and 10 was like okay, we'll try man like.
- 1:09:31What the fuck do you mean like? Oh no, you're a big dude.
- 1:09:34Like we can't guarantee we can pull you.
- 1:09:38Oh man. OK, so yeah, he goes up there
- 1:09:41and he fixes the satellite when he gets serviced and Alex is
- 1:09:44making. A call and then all of a sudden
- 1:09:46the call was interrupted and we cut to the Declan trying to pull
- 1:09:49the rope back but it comes back empty and he like runs
- 1:09:52downstairs and I'm like, well, we kind of made a call but it
- 1:09:54got dropped and he goes no, Theo's kind guys and they're
- 1:09:57like Oh no. And Artemis is like trying to
- 1:09:59run out and everybody's like, no, don't do that.
- 1:10:00And she goes, we can't leave him out there alone.
- 1:10:02And when they open the door, Theo's hanging there upside down
- 1:10:05and there's like a full microphone on a mic stand.
- 1:10:08When did Caleb pull this out? Because I can tell you this, if
- 1:10:13I was trying to hypothetically, I'm not planning this at all,
- 1:10:18like go on a murder spree. Like if I was going to have a
- 1:10:20mic for somebody, this wouldn't, it wouldn't be a quick setup,
- 1:10:23you know what I mean? I wouldn't be able to go from
- 1:10:25like out in the yard behind a tree with nothing in my hands to
- 1:10:29up on this deck that's multiple stories in the air with this
- 1:10:33person hanging from a rope and just have like a microphone in
- 1:10:36front of them. Also, what is the microphone
- 1:10:37plugged into? His phone maybe, I don't know.
- 1:10:42We've got like. Bluetooth mics questions.
- 1:10:44Yeah, but the Bluetooth mics aren't this.
- 1:10:47Our Bluetooth mics are like, you know, they get lost in my bra,
- 1:10:50you know what I mean? Like that's because we bought
- 1:10:52that. Type, Yeah.
- 1:10:54True, but still all right. In the weeds again, yes, But
- 1:10:58yeah, yeah, he, he. These are important.
- 1:11:01Weeds, though, they're relevant weeds, they are, yeah.
- 1:11:04Anyways, he dies. Yeah, he gets gutted.
- 1:11:07Yeah, and I guess the reason. He has that.
- 1:11:09There is so he can record his scream.
- 1:11:10So yeah. He doesn't really scream that
- 1:11:12much. Also, again, we just have two
- 1:11:15makeup people and they do a decent job with these intestines
- 1:11:18filling out. Yeah, no the.
- 1:11:20Effects are pretty solid, yeah. I'm really impressed with
- 1:11:23Alexandra and Ashley. Yeah, good job, all right.
- 1:11:26So yeah, Theo's dead, and Declan now is giving Artemis a pep
- 1:11:31talk. Yeah, because Artemis.
- 1:11:32Is like just completely shut down.
- 1:11:34She takes, she takes Emily's ashes and goes upstairs and is
- 1:11:37crying and panicking and she's like, my whole life doesn't
- 1:11:40matter. My dad's about to lose both of
- 1:11:42his daughters. And he's like, OK, listen, we're
- 1:11:44going to get through this together.
- 1:11:45Yeah. So.
- 1:11:46They go downstairs and then they catch Alex doing more cocaine.
- 1:11:49Yeah, She's like, no. Ice crashing guys trust me you
- 1:11:51you want me to do this so. The killer radio is back in.
- 1:11:56Or Caleb, I guess, and he's got a 2 minute warning.
- 1:11:59He's like, all right, you guys got 2 minutes.
- 1:12:01Yeah. And this is when they realize
- 1:12:03that the walkie-talkie is bugged because.
- 1:12:06Artemis, like, is arguing with him and then she goes guys.
- 1:12:11Guys, I never hit. The talk button.
- 1:12:13Oh. Yeah.
- 1:12:15And then we cut. To Caleb's POV, and he's hearing
- 1:12:17them say, OK, so we're just going to throw it out there to
- 1:12:21him now. And, like, this is very obvious,
- 1:12:22like, they're planning to, like, fake him out.
- 1:12:24Yeah. I love how they get him twice
- 1:12:26with this stuff yes, so funny because like I love the shots
- 1:12:29where they throw it out there and then he always goes over
- 1:12:32there and he just throws like a little teacher like God, guys,
- 1:12:35it's like. My dog growing up, like, oh, she
- 1:12:38was the bestest German shepherd. She's very sweet, very smart.
- 1:12:42She loved the snow and we would occasionally throw snowballs to
- 1:12:47her and then it would land in a snowdrift and she would run to
- 1:12:50try and fetch them and because it was snow, it just dispersed
- 1:12:54within itself and she could never find it and she was always
- 1:12:57confounded. Poor Poppy.
- 1:12:58Poor Poppy. All right, somewhere in doggy
- 1:13:02heaven she's hearing that going son of a bitch.
- 1:13:05She already knew. She she knew.
- 1:13:08That's. What they're doing to Caleb,
- 1:13:09that guy took her to his. Side like by the way, like I
- 1:13:12just. Need you to know.
- 1:13:13Don't worry man, we. Got clouds all right, so.
- 1:13:17Anyways, Caleb's pissed off about it and he is.
- 1:13:21He's not going to go get them. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:23And at this time, like Artemis has made a run for it.
- 1:13:26And Alex is like looks to Douglas.
- 1:13:28She's like, OK, cool, so now what's our plan?
- 1:13:30And he's like, OK, they're. They've used the radios for
- 1:13:33feedback. Yes, they, yeah, they put the
- 1:13:35radios together. So that way we go, Yeah.
- 1:13:38And. It's really fucking up Caleb's
- 1:13:40ears cuz he's. Got like a like a, an earpiece
- 1:13:43and that's how he's talking to them.
- 1:13:45So yeah. Artemis has run off now and
- 1:13:48then. Yeah, Alex is like, all right,
- 1:13:50so now that we agreed to the plan of her running away, this
- 1:13:53is our time to go and leave her. And Declan's like you're.
- 1:13:56Sociopath. Yeah, he's like what the?
- 1:13:58Fuck are you talking about? She's like, that's why we both
- 1:13:59agreed to do this, right? She's like, no.
- 1:14:02Absolutely not. Yeah, so they're kind of having
- 1:14:07their moment. And meanwhile, Artemis has
- 1:14:08gotten lost outside. Yeah, because it's dork.
- 1:14:12Yeah, she trips. And then as she is getting up,
- 1:14:15she sees the RV and she goes inside and in there she finds
- 1:14:19all these files on Caleb and she doesn't know who this guy is,
- 1:14:22but she now has information on them which who just has.
- 1:14:25Their like registration just sitting on their dashboard like
- 1:14:28that. At the very least it's in your
- 1:14:30glove compartment. Serial killer shit.
- 1:14:33I guess. I guess.
- 1:14:34But. Also here's the other thing is
- 1:14:36that all of the other files have like coffee spilled all over
- 1:14:39them. But these DMV notes are very
- 1:14:41clear. I wonder if maybe just some PA
- 1:14:45was like setting up and accidentally knocked over a cup
- 1:14:48of coffee and they're like whatever, he's a serial color.
- 1:14:51Sloppy he would be. Yeah, this guy's, Yeah, except
- 1:14:54his DMV. Registration is pristine well.
- 1:14:59That's the thing he cares about anyways.
- 1:15:01So she's like, she sees him coming in.
- 1:15:04She's he's approaching the RV by the way, she.
- 1:15:06Sees the registration, but she also finds files on her whole
- 1:15:09family. Yeah, true.
- 1:15:10Yeah. And a few other people,
- 1:15:11apparently. All right, so she hides and he
- 1:15:15is in there and he just, like, puts on his mask again or
- 1:15:19whatever. I don't know.
- 1:15:19He just needs to catch his breath.
- 1:15:20Yeah, he needed. To he needed to become a gyroid
- 1:15:23and get spooky again. Yeah, I guess.
- 1:15:25Yeah. Sometimes you just need a
- 1:15:27minute. You go to your grounding space,
- 1:15:30you take your deep meditative breaths, and then you go, Yeah.
- 1:15:34And like, we just like cut to them both back outside.
- 1:15:36I don't even know what the fuck happens here.
- 1:15:38Well. He ran out and then she saw that
- 1:15:39he ran out and she ran out also, and that's what happened.
- 1:15:42Yeah. OK, nothing deeper.
- 1:15:43Yeah. Well then, she.
- 1:15:44Gets stuck in a bear trap. Yep, and it causes her to scream
- 1:15:47and then they notifies him. Appreciate.
- 1:15:50Her efforts to not scream like the sound of the bear trap gave
- 1:15:54her away in the 1st place and she was going.
- 1:15:57She just like she caves in pretty much immediately.
- 1:16:00She did. Do her best to try and hold it
- 1:16:02in though. Yeah, I think.
- 1:16:04All right, so. He finds her and then he just
- 1:16:07releases. Her.
- 1:16:08Yeah. And she takes the opportunity to
- 1:16:11kick him in the balls, which is what you do.
- 1:16:13Yeah. Smart.
- 1:16:14And then she runs for the tree house and he and she can't find
- 1:16:16the flare gun and he pops up. Yeah.
- 1:16:19So we got back to the cabin and then the dad arrives.
- 1:16:24Yeah. And Thomas doesn't believe
- 1:16:27Declan when he was like, no, listen, there's somebody trying
- 1:16:29to kill us. And he goes, oh, Alex is here.
- 1:16:31What kind of drugs are you guys on?
- 1:16:33Because the whole thing was because Alex gave this really
- 1:16:36awkward I'll timed apology to Artemis saying like, we were
- 1:16:40just so excited that your parents were out of town.
- 1:16:43I didn't realize that her audition was the next day.
- 1:16:46And Artemis is like, it's fine. Emily killed it the way she
- 1:16:48normally does. Like 'cause their whole thing
- 1:16:49was that like Alex almost ruined her future, but she didn't.
- 1:16:52So exposition. The more you know.
- 1:16:58All right, And then we get a cop.
- 1:16:59Knock on the door and we all know it's Caleb because we got a
- 1:17:02glimpse of his face when he was changing his mask in the RV.
- 1:17:05Yeah, also he. Just he's, he's sloppy looking.
- 1:17:08He is? Yeah.
- 1:17:08Little. Cops can be, especially in I
- 1:17:10mean. Rural.
- 1:17:12It is true. But he's sloppy looking and he's
- 1:17:15got like the tiniest tin foil star like on his chest, so he's.
- 1:17:20Like, all right, tell me what's going on here.
- 1:17:22And then they show the body of Shira.
- 1:17:25Well, at first. Thomas is like, I want these two
- 1:17:27arrested. And then he sees the body that's
- 1:17:29on his couch that he somehow hasn't noticed before, and then
- 1:17:31he goes, Oh my God, Shira said. Declan, you were right.
- 1:17:34I'm so sorry, officer, there's a killer here.
- 1:17:36And he goes, no, I'm going to need some evidence.
- 1:17:39I'm calling for backup. You guys can't leave because
- 1:17:41this is a crime scene. Because I'm not a murderer,
- 1:17:45Thomas. Nobody said you were.
- 1:17:47That's really fucking suspicious, bro.
- 1:17:49It's also funny. Because Dec was like, yeah, and
- 1:17:51we found this memory card with really shitty music.
- 1:17:53And then he's like, what did you see about that music, son?
- 1:17:56Yeah. And then?
- 1:17:57Basically because of that, Declan and Alex.
- 1:17:59Really. Oh, this is the guy.
- 1:18:01Yeah, I think he's really sensitive about it.
- 1:18:03So Declan sneaks. Over and grabs a little fire
- 1:18:05poker and then attacks him with it and like.
- 1:18:08Thomas is like, son, what are you doing?
- 1:18:10Yeah. He's so confused in this
- 1:18:12situation so he attacks. Alex runs out the door.
- 1:18:17Shitty till the end, basically. Yep, she's a terrible person.
- 1:18:21Yeah. Caleb stabs Thomas and then
- 1:18:24Declan shoots Caleb with the nail gun and then Caleb stabs
- 1:18:28Declan in the eyeball brain. It's a good kill.
- 1:18:31And then kicks Thomas in the head.
- 1:18:32Yeah. So Artemis wakes up, and she is
- 1:18:35tied to a chair across from Thomas, much like the opening
- 1:18:37shot with Harper. And.
- 1:18:38Well, and Caleb says that he grew up on this land before the
- 1:18:42development company came in, and they bought their land there and
- 1:18:45everything. He has stalked the family.
- 1:18:47He's like, I feel like I'm part of the family.
- 1:18:49And let me, Thomas, introduce you to your second daughter, the
- 1:18:54forgotten daughter. And Thomas goes Oh my God, I
- 1:18:57forgot all about. You, Artemis.
- 1:19:00Why did I give you such a name? Yeah.
- 1:19:03So he does this like. Typical bad guy speech, like why
- 1:19:06do I do this? And then it's really just like,
- 1:19:09I just like watching people die and I he.
- 1:19:12Does the thing where he makes Artemis sing and hit the no sais
- 1:19:14plane on the keyboard and look for her to be built up to be
- 1:19:18this amazing singer singer with all of this potential.
- 1:19:20The actor cannot fucking hit a note to save her goddamn life
- 1:19:25here. Because we have.
- 1:19:26Watched Cassandra Scarabo in several things and I was like,
- 1:19:29she has never once struck me in somebody who could sing.
- 1:19:31She's a fine actor, but. She cannot sing and I was very.
- 1:19:35Interested to see how this was gonna go because they've avoided
- 1:19:38having her actually sing at any point.
- 1:19:40Yeah, and it's not good, guys. This almost feels.
- 1:19:43Like parody movie type territory right here where they build up
- 1:19:47this character. You're a great singer.
- 1:19:49Now it's your chance like oh, OK, this is what she But they
- 1:19:55are like, Oh my God, pitch perfect.
- 1:19:57You're doing a great. Job I see and by hi see I mean
- 1:20:01they don't mean the. Dream.
- 1:20:04Yeah. Whenever he said that, I was
- 1:20:06like, oh man, I'd take a hit of hi.
- 1:20:08See right now. Oh man.
- 1:20:11That she was. Good hi see from.
- 1:20:13McDonald's, Yeah, my sister used.
- 1:20:15To get That was her favorite. Yeah.
- 1:20:17All right, So that's something about the McDonald's.
- 1:20:19Side of machines just hit different.
- 1:20:21Yes, there's whole. System, yeah.
- 1:20:24OK, so yeah, she, he is like recording all of this.
- 1:20:29And then he's like, oh, memory card's full.
- 1:20:31And when they he goes out and Thomas is like, you have to
- 1:20:33scream. And she's like, what?
- 1:20:35And he goes just do it, just scream.
- 1:20:37So how did he figure? This out like if she screams he
- 1:20:40like gets cut or something well because it already.
- 1:20:42Happened once because the first time when he was like he just
- 1:20:44hits the button and expects her to know and she's like what the
- 1:20:47fuck what are you doing? Just wrong answer.
- 1:20:50So Thomas figured it out and so when he comes back in puts the
- 1:20:53memory card in, they start anew and she screams and he goes no.
- 1:20:58So he goes to slice Thomas, and Thomas head butts him, which
- 1:21:03seems like it's really smart. But neither of them has really
- 1:21:06gotten loose. And all we're seeing is like,
- 1:21:09like, shake the chair a lot. And then we see Caleb smash
- 1:21:14Thomas's face in a ton. Yeah, it was a pretty.
- 1:21:16Brutal beating, yeah. I wish we would have seen in the
- 1:21:18aftermath of that, yeah. So she gets.
- 1:21:21Free. Yeah, she does get.
- 1:21:22Free. She runs out, but Caleb catches
- 1:21:25up to her, knocks her down and stabs her right in the thorax.
- 1:21:30Yeah, and then leaves her. I guess because he thinks that
- 1:21:33she's subbed and he's back in the RV and she did shoot.
- 1:21:36A flare? Yeah, she did.
- 1:21:38Yeah. Cuz.
- 1:21:39She found it as she was running. She found Alex's dead body in
- 1:21:44the flare gun. Yeah, she got.
- 1:21:45Caught by, like, I guess, like, spikes out there.
- 1:21:47Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:21:49All right. So we're back in the RV and
- 1:21:51he's, like, editing the fucking music.
- 1:21:52And then the cops roll by and he's nervous.
- 1:21:55And then Alex, they just drive right past.
- 1:21:56And he's like OK, cool. And then Artemis pops out of the
- 1:22:01RV bedroom with a shotgun. Where the fuck?
- 1:22:03She get that? Shotguns.
- 1:22:06Don't seem like Caleb style I. Just this ending fucking sucks
- 1:22:12and she goes you. Hit a high sea bitch and then
- 1:22:15choose them and then it cuts to credits with like aggressive
- 1:22:18rock music which doesn't fit the.
- 1:22:24That's John Crane Ray's new. Metal band.
- 1:22:28Yeah. This inning sucks.
- 1:22:31OK? I'm just going to be real with
- 1:22:33you here. Like it.
- 1:22:33Just like I felt like they didn't know what to do.
- 1:22:37Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:22:38But here's the thing. This feels like all of the
- 1:22:40cheesy, stupid, nonsensical Christmas movies we love, but in
- 1:22:44a horror movie form, and I love it for that.
- 1:22:47I don't need every horror movie to be amazing and to be able to
- 1:22:50write a thesis on it. I just sometimes want to enjoy
- 1:22:53the stupid and I enjoy it, so I'm keeping it at a 6 1/2.
- 1:22:58All right, I. Feel it.
- 1:23:00I'm feeling it, Mr. Krabs. I'm keeping mine at a.
- 1:23:02Three, And normally I agree with you on that stuff, but I feel
- 1:23:06like for it to work, it still has to have that charm.
- 1:23:09And this movie does not have that charm.
- 1:23:12It just pisses me off because I know what it could have been.
- 1:23:14You know what I mean? Yeah And then also that ending
- 1:23:17fucking sucks. Yeah, that.
- 1:23:19Ending is kind of a let down. It's just, it's so.
- 1:23:22Bad man, Oh my God, but now her and her.
- 1:23:25Mom can like move on from their toxic family dynamic maybe, I
- 1:23:30don't know. How do you come?
- 1:23:33Back from watching your husband. What like eat brownie makes out
- 1:23:37of a fucking nerd? Eat your brownie.
- 1:23:39Baby. Yeah, well.
- 1:23:41Whatever. All right, so and that's that.
- 1:23:45Do you have? Oh wait, Who'd you relate to?
- 1:23:50I guess I probably relate to like Artemis or Shira, like the
- 1:23:53whole fear of like rejection from like a thing I'm really
- 1:23:58into. OK.
- 1:24:00I would relate to Shira for like, being interested in the
- 1:24:03comic thing. It's like an illustrative thing.
- 1:24:06Yeah, I like that career path that she was interested in.
- 1:24:09I'd be into that same type of thing.
- 1:24:12What was Scout's favorite part, you say?
- 1:24:16Travis, no, you don't get to do this.
- 1:24:17You have to go first. I I see what you're doing here
- 1:24:22and I'm not allowing it, I think Scout.
- 1:24:25'S favorite part is when they hit the really they do the
- 1:24:29karaoke because Scout loves it whenever you sing and she comes
- 1:24:32over and like, hangs out with you whenever that happens, no.
- 1:24:37Obviously Scouts favorite part is when they hack into the
- 1:24:41computer and they make the music play because Scout knows how to
- 1:24:44do that on our laptops. Even when my computer, my laptop
- 1:24:48died senior year of college and the screen wouldn't turn on,
- 1:24:51nothing would happen. Scout figured out how to step on
- 1:24:53the right combination of keys to get music to play.
- 1:24:55This is true. I was there.
- 1:24:56That's true story, yeah. That's an interesting.
- 1:24:59Thing. Yeah, OK, I can accept that.
- 1:25:02OK. All right.
- 1:25:05Dream Sequel. Dream Sequel.
- 1:25:08Well, Caleb's dead. He got the high C.
- 1:25:13So I don't. He's not coming back.
- 1:25:19Maybe the dad? Survived.
- 1:25:24Do we think he was hit in the head like a lot?
- 1:25:28I like we don't see exactly so like what if he got his vocal
- 1:25:33cords fucked and he Can't Sing anymore?
- 1:25:35That's true. Because we also saw he was
- 1:25:38really bad at slashing throats. Like, Artemis should have been
- 1:25:40dead right away. And she not Artemis.
- 1:25:43Yeah, Yeah. But like.
- 1:25:45Yeah, and he like, what if he just got the vocal cord and he
- 1:25:47Can't Sing and like singing? What's his passion?
- 1:25:50He was driving with his daughter, the.
- 1:25:52The brain damage like took away his hearing or something so now
- 1:25:55he can't hear music. Oh.
- 1:25:57That would drive him crazy. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:26:00Like maybe he goes. Crazy.
- 1:26:01And he becomes a killer. Yeah, he.
- 1:26:03Like picks up the mask, Yeah. And he's like, all right, I'll
- 1:26:06be. Thomas.
- 1:26:07OK. Is that Thomas?
- 1:26:08Caleb. I'll be Caleb.
- 1:26:09Yeah, Thomas is. The dad, Caleb's the killer.
- 1:26:12He says that. So I'll be Thomas.
- 1:26:14I'll be Thomas. So Thomas does to.
- 1:26:17Himself, everybody. When he wakes up anyway, I'll be
- 1:26:20Thomas. I can't wait to show you this
- 1:26:24place, babe. I can't wait to be.
- 1:26:26Thomas, Babe? Where's Thomas Babe?
- 1:26:31That would actually be another great tackle.
- 1:26:33I can't wait to show you this movie, babe.
- 1:26:38Can't wait to. Watch this movie, babe.
- 1:26:39Do you wanna listen to my? Demo tape, babe.
- 1:26:44Man, OK. Do you have the review then?
- 1:26:48Because I mean, we've done our other shit.
- 1:26:49So you didn't pull a review, did you?
- 1:26:51No, I forgot. Hold on, pause.
- 1:26:54OK. So as is tradition with our to
- 1:26:57be or not to be, we've got a high rating and a low rating.
- 1:27:00I'm going to start with the low rating so I can discuss my
- 1:27:03thoughts on it and then I will read the high rating so you can
- 1:27:05discuss yours, OK. So the.
- 1:27:08Low rating is a three-point O out of 10.
- 1:27:11I'm not going to read the whole thing because some of it's just
- 1:27:12like recap, but the last couple of paragraphs are important.
- 1:27:16This is one of those almost good movies.
- 1:27:18There was a unique concept for the slasher flick and a good
- 1:27:21setup of characters and circumstances.
- 1:27:23The opening scene was good even if the kill could have been
- 1:27:25executed better. The acting was solid and the
- 1:27:27circumstances felt realistic. There's a good throat slash in
- 1:27:30this, but not enough good kill scenes to make this worthwhile.
- 1:27:34The killer reveal at the end was disappointing too.
- 1:27:36Overall, this is below average addition to the horror genre
- 1:27:39that had a solid concept and poor execution.
- 1:27:42I would score this a 3.5 out of 10 and recommend skipping it.
- 1:27:45Damn. Did I write that?
- 1:27:49Like they're .5 higher than me? But they hit all that shit
- 1:27:53perfect, I think for. Me, I agree.
- 1:27:57It's a unique concept. I kind of disagree on the acting
- 1:28:01because I feel like it's a little bit more mixed.
- 1:28:02The acting was OK. Yeah, the acting was fine.
- 1:28:04There, I don't think Thomas's actor did that good a job.
- 1:28:08Oh yeah, Thomas. Sucked yeah he didn't do great
- 1:28:10but everything every like the group of friends were OK like.
- 1:28:14I I'm not expecting like. A tear acting here, you know
- 1:28:18what I mean? I knew what I was getting into
- 1:28:20and I love that type of shit. However, I.
- 1:28:24Did say at the beginning that I do feel like the ending was
- 1:28:26undis served and the reveal of the killer wasn't like.
- 1:28:31Yeah, there was nothing. Like amazing about it.
- 1:28:34See, here's the. Thing like, why did he feel
- 1:28:36compelled to keep the mask off at the end?
- 1:28:39You know what I mean? Yeah, that's one of my biggest
- 1:28:41pet peeves with flash. Yeah, like, you like, OK, we
- 1:28:44know you now. So you feel like you like are
- 1:28:47personal and you're taking your mask off.
- 1:28:49No, dude, like the whole thing is like an intimidation thing.
- 1:28:51Like, you know, someday we're gonna cover.
- 1:28:53Hush. So that way everybody can hear
- 1:28:54Travis's feelings on that, I don't know, screen.
- 1:28:57Factors in a 4K for that I know. But yeah.
- 1:29:03So like, I can see why this would be disappointing for some
- 1:29:06people because it's it's a lot of build up to not a lot of
- 1:29:10resolution. It just doesn't.
- 1:29:12Live up to its concepts, OK, and that's.
- 1:29:15Fair. That's the.
- 1:29:15Frustrating thing about it, like it's potential.
- 1:29:19OK. All right.
- 1:29:20What's the good one? OK, this is a 7.
- 1:29:22Out of 10. OK, once again it's the wannabe
- 1:29:25movie reviewers comparing B movies to A movies.
- 1:29:28Well screen was a solid comedy, this one was not.
- 1:29:31This kept me glued to the screen, wondering who was who
- 1:29:34was next. Oh, I guess who was going to be
- 1:29:36killed next. Yeah, the killer was demented
- 1:29:38SOB as usual. There were several times where
- 1:29:41he could have been stopped in the real world, but I guess I
- 1:29:43wouldn't make for good cinema. Hopefully you never read any of
- 1:29:46my other views because here's where the part where they all
- 1:29:48sound the same. Forget about the naysayers and
- 1:29:51give it a watch and decide for yourself.
- 1:29:52Remember, it's AB flick. The action is good, some
- 1:29:56believable, some not. Yeah.
- 1:29:58Here's the thing buddy, I am approaching this from a love and
- 1:30:04from a place of knowing it's AB flick and I don't compare B
- 1:30:08movies say it's Oh my God, Zoe, Jesus Christ, Zoe has.
- 1:30:13Opinions. Yeah, OK.
- 1:30:16I'm not approaching it from that.
- 1:30:18I'm judging it based on it being that right there.
- 1:30:22You don't have to go and be a fucking masterpiece of a movie
- 1:30:26for me to appreciate it and enjoy it.
- 1:30:29Like you need to just be a good movie.
- 1:30:32You need to like, take what you have and actually execute it.
- 1:30:36And goddamn, this movie just does not.
- 1:30:39Here's my thought on. This though, it's not a matter
- 1:30:41of A movie or B movie. It's a matter of like, to me,
- 1:30:45this feels like a Mara Vista movie because when we think
- 1:30:48about captivated by a touch to to pay, remember how they had
- 1:30:52like a whole like a year of dating, but it's really been
- 1:30:55like a night on the pier. Like that's.
- 1:30:58Amazing we. Watch that shit.
- 1:31:00Three times every December. I love it.
- 1:31:03It's amazing, It's stupid, it's fun.
- 1:31:06I'm not saying it's objectively. Good, but.
- 1:31:08I'm saying like it's fun to watch on TV and laugh at, and
- 1:31:12I'm OK with that in a movie. I think those movies mean to
- 1:31:15exist and not in like a mean ha ha ha and bullying you way, but
- 1:31:19in a like sometimes art is just silly in its own right kind of
- 1:31:23way if you're gonna do. That though, just be basic, man,
- 1:31:27you know, like don't try and do something interesting and then
- 1:31:30just don't follow through. Those movies are basic and
- 1:31:34they're so upfront with how basic they are.
- 1:31:36Like we know what this shit is. This one was not being.
- 1:31:39Basic on itself though? I really don't.
- 1:31:41I think it was. It became basic.
- 1:31:43It was basic as fuck, but then there's like, but hey, this is
- 1:31:47what we can do. Just so you know, if we were
- 1:31:50really trying with this thing, we could be really like, cool
- 1:31:54with how we're going to do this shit, but Nah.
- 1:31:58He's going to stand. Outside and he's just going to
- 1:32:00cut and then it's going to be like fooled several times.
- 1:32:04This person is skidded off 5 fucking times in this
- 1:32:07cul-de-sac. What are you all doing out there
- 1:32:10like? This is a residential
- 1:32:12neighborhood dude I'm so close to.
- 1:32:13Being the guy that just goes out into my porch, we have a.
- 1:32:16Blind children playing sign. We do.
- 1:32:19You are not supposed to peel out that way.
- 1:32:21All right, so. We got our reviews, we've said
- 1:32:24our piece, we've said. Our piece It's time for.
- 1:32:27A to be or not to be the titular.
- 1:32:29Question. Titular question.
- 1:32:30For me it's. Definitely A to be.
- 1:32:32I would for sure watch this again and have fun with it,
- 1:32:37yeah. So here's the thing.
- 1:32:38It's to be or not to be me recommending like you should
- 1:32:42watch it or is it? Would I watch it again?
- 1:32:44It's would you? Watch it again because I think
- 1:32:46we always generally say like, that's the thing.
- 1:32:48Yeah, I. I recommend everybody to watch
- 1:32:50it and. Make your own opinion, because
- 1:32:52our whole thing on this show is that like, everybody's got their
- 1:32:55own taste. I was gonna say like I would.
- 1:32:56Say like any like of course like you know make form your own
- 1:33:00opinions on this, but if it were up to me I would not this is a
- 1:33:04no. Right, OK.
- 1:33:06Yeah. All right.
- 1:33:07Well, we're split. Yeah, we're split on.
- 1:33:09This one but. It happens every now and it.
- 1:33:12Does classic format on the show here?
- 1:33:14It does, yeah, but it's OK. Because we saw plenty of movies
- 1:33:18we enjoy together and I respect I.
- 1:33:20Respect your like for it. I see where you're coming from
- 1:33:23and I see where the other people are coming from.
- 1:33:25I respect your. Dislike for it, I understand.
- 1:33:28Why you're frustrated, I understand.
- 1:33:30I understand that we've seen enough good movies with a
- 1:33:33similar premise. Why you wanted this to be better
- 1:33:36than what it is? I've not.
- 1:33:37Seen one with that premise before.
- 1:33:40That's the thing I I want to kind of set.
- 1:33:42Up. You know what I mean there?
- 1:33:44Yeah, there's. One out there that kind of
- 1:33:46reminds me of this. It's very much based off of
- 1:33:49sound. I can't remember.
- 1:33:51It's like Barbarians, like a sound something I don't fuck.
- 1:33:54Oh, I know what you're. I know which one you're talking
- 1:33:56it sounds. Like, it could be interesting,
- 1:33:58but yeah, it's just. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:01Well, whatever. You all check it out, make your
- 1:34:04own opinions. Yeah.
- 1:34:05So. All right, that's a.

- 1:34:35Yeah, if you shutter like. If you've got like an AMC Plus
