- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to the Wired to Hunt podcast, home of the
- 0:05Speaker 1: modern white tail hunter and now your host Mark Kenyon.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to the Wired to Hunt podcast. I'm your host,
- 0:14Speaker 1: Mark Kenyan and Tay. On the show, I'm joined by
- 0:16Speaker 1: archery coach and shot i Q founder Joel Turner to
- 0:20Speaker 1: discuss what I learned and changed about my shooting process
- 0:23Speaker 1: after an in person coaching experience with him this very spring.
- 0:38Speaker 1: All right, welcome to the Wire to Hunt podcast, brought
- 0:42Speaker 1: to you by First Light. Today we are talking archery,
- 0:47Speaker 1: talking how to shoot a boll better. And my guests
- 0:51Speaker 1: that just mentioned is Joel Turner. Now, Joel Turner is
- 0:55Speaker 1: He's a guy, and that's a name that I think
- 0:57Speaker 1: many of you've heard before. Um, He's he's been becoming
- 1:02Speaker 1: a pretty well known figure in the world of archery
- 1:05Speaker 1: and bow hunting, specifically for those people who have ever
- 1:09Speaker 1: had problems or challenges with rushing their shots, or punching
- 1:14Speaker 1: the trigger, or holding off of the target or any
- 1:17Speaker 1: number basically almost everything that goes wrong when you are
- 1:22Speaker 1: trying to shoot at an animal or to target in
- 1:25Speaker 1: high pressure situations. All of that stuff can be distilled
- 1:30Speaker 1: down to in one form or another as a symptom
- 1:32Speaker 1: of target panic and target panics something that I personally
- 1:36Speaker 1: have you know, dealt with over the years. It's something
- 1:39Speaker 1: I've been pretty candid about on this podcast. Um in
- 1:43Speaker 1: in many different forms. And you know, oh gosh, since
- 1:47Speaker 1: the very beginning, I think, you know, back in well,
- 1:51Speaker 1: I don't know how old it was. I think I
- 1:53Speaker 1: was like thirteen or something. I started teaching myself to
- 1:56Speaker 1: bow hunt. Me and my dad picked up bows and
- 1:58Speaker 1: tried to figure it out, and neither one of us
- 2:00Speaker 1: knew what we were doing. Uh. And ever since then,
- 2:03Speaker 1: I've just been kind of stumbling along, reading stuff, listening
- 2:06Speaker 1: to things, talking to people, and trying to piece things together.
- 2:10Speaker 1: And you know it, eventually I was able to piece
- 2:14Speaker 1: things enough together that I could get the job done
- 2:16Speaker 1: most of the time. I was plenty successful enough over
- 2:19Speaker 1: the years. But I don't know, maybe three years ago,
- 2:22Speaker 1: four years ago, I had another situation where a shot
- 2:26Speaker 1: was pulled and wasn't hitting right where I wanted to,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and a couple of things like that have been in
- 2:30Speaker 1: one given year, and I said to myself, you know what,
- 2:32Speaker 1: I gotta I gotta do something different. I gotta figure
- 2:34Speaker 1: this out. And this would have been maybe two thousand eighteen, maybe,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and I did a podcast with Joel Turner at that time,
- 2:45Speaker 1: that's episode two oh six. I also talked to John Dudley.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I talked to a few different people about target panic.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I worked with some friends. I worked with my buddy
- 2:54Speaker 1: Andy May, doing some different drills, doing some different things,
- 2:58Speaker 1: eventually switched to a different kind of release, and all
- 3:00Speaker 1: these things helped um. I made progress. I had a
- 3:03Speaker 1: couple of good years where things are going pretty well.
- 3:06Speaker 1: But if you listen to the podcast I did about
- 3:11Speaker 1: two months ago with Tony, it was called the White
- 3:14Speaker 1: Tail Therapy Session with Tony Peterson. I recapped my one
- 3:18Speaker 1: season and a series of events that led to kind
- 3:22Speaker 1: of a snowball effect of me losing confidence and and
- 3:26Speaker 1: really happiness with how I was shooting my bow and
- 3:29Speaker 1: the results I was getting. And I was again confronted
- 3:32Speaker 1: with the fact that, you know, the target panic banshee
- 3:35Speaker 1: that I thought I had banished a few years ago
- 3:38Speaker 1: was in fact still there lingering behind the scenes. I
- 3:41Speaker 1: just kind of put a band aid on it for
- 3:42Speaker 1: a couple of years, and I had to look myself
- 3:45Speaker 1: in the mirror and say did I did I really
- 3:47Speaker 1: have true, true control of all these situations in the past,
- 3:50Speaker 1: or was I, you know, just able to get it
- 3:53Speaker 1: done in the moment, but really was an autopilot and
- 3:56Speaker 1: autopilot happened to work that time. So all of this
- 4:00Speaker 1: candle ahead for me. About two months ago when a
- 4:07Speaker 1: friend of mine, h an acquaintance really I haven't spent
- 4:11Speaker 1: a ton of time together, but someone who I really respect,
- 4:13Speaker 1: who's who's very good at what he does, gave me
- 4:16Speaker 1: a call on the blue. I got a phone call
- 4:18Speaker 1: from this person who I hadn't spoke to in years, probably,
- 4:21Speaker 1: and he said, Mark, I don't want to overstep you know,
- 4:25Speaker 1: my boundaries here anything. I don't wanna give you unsolicited
- 4:29Speaker 1: advice that you don't want. But I gotta tell you something.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I've heard you talk on the podcast a couple of
- 4:34Speaker 1: times this past fall in the spring, and I heard
- 4:37Speaker 1: myself in your stories. I've been where you are now.
- 4:43Speaker 1: And let me tell you. You have to go visit
- 4:46Speaker 1: Joel Turner. You have to he he insisted. There was
- 4:50Speaker 1: no questions, there was no ifs ands or butts. He said,
- 4:52Speaker 1: this will change your hunting life. It will bring your
- 4:55Speaker 1: joy back, it will bring your confidence back. That's exactly
- 4:59Speaker 1: what I did for him, and he was he was
- 5:01Speaker 1: so compelling and this was this is so genuine that
- 5:04Speaker 1: I tossed any other plans that hit out the window,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and I said, okay, I'll do it. And I got
- 5:09Speaker 1: ahold of Joel and booked the time to come visit.
- 5:12Speaker 1: And sure enough, now it would have been mid April,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I hopped on a plane headed to Washington State and
- 5:20Speaker 1: got to spend a day and a half with Joel Turner,
- 5:23Speaker 1: who has become one of the most you know, respected
- 5:26Speaker 1: and highly sought out archery coaches now in the nation.
- 5:30Speaker 1: So Joel Turner founded shot i Q, which is his
- 5:33Speaker 1: company where he you know, handles these different archery coaching sessions,
- 5:38Speaker 1: these clinics. He has digital online courses where you can
- 5:41Speaker 1: follow what he does. Uh. These courses have been endorsed
- 5:44Speaker 1: and promoted and and successfully used by people as well
- 5:47Speaker 1: known as Joe Rogan and many others. Um. But I
- 5:51Speaker 1: was gonna get to go there in person and have
- 5:53Speaker 1: him see what I'm doing and kind of pressure test
- 5:57Speaker 1: it see if I need substantial help, a little bit
- 6:01Speaker 1: of help. I need to tear it all down and
- 6:02Speaker 1: start from the beginning. That's what I wanted to figure out,
- 6:06Speaker 1: and Joel was was gracious enough to do that and
- 6:09Speaker 1: really really helped me out in a lot of different ways.
- 6:12Speaker 1: So that's what we have today, is the conversation that
- 6:15Speaker 1: Joel and I had just after my full day of
- 6:18Speaker 1: coaching together. I have never shot so much in one day.
- 6:21Speaker 1: We shot for hours and hours and hours and hours
- 6:23Speaker 1: and hours in many different settings, in a number of
- 6:26Speaker 1: different ways, long distance, close distance, all sorts of crazy stuff. Um,
- 6:31Speaker 1: it was really cool, and I came out of that
- 6:32Speaker 1: feeling a lot better about what this upcoming season is
- 6:36Speaker 1: going to look like. I'm taking control. I'm going to
- 6:40Speaker 1: try to again make forward progress and and not settle
- 6:44Speaker 1: for good enough most of the time. So hey, if
- 6:48Speaker 1: you've been with me since the days when we just
- 6:50Speaker 1: started this thing back in two thousand and eight, two
- 6:52Speaker 1: thousand and nine, you know this has been a roller
- 6:53Speaker 1: coaster ride for me as a bow hunter and an archer.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And I share all this with you because I hope
- 7:00Speaker 1: that this is something that can resonate with some of
- 7:02Speaker 1: you that are experiencing something similar, and I hope this
- 7:06Speaker 1: is something that will help you too, because there's a
- 7:08Speaker 1: whole lot of folks out there talking about bow hunting
- 7:11Speaker 1: and out there hunting, and you you just see them
- 7:14Speaker 1: succeed all the time. You see all the great stuff
- 7:16Speaker 1: they do, and you never see the fact that they
- 7:19Speaker 1: are humans. They are mortals that make mistakes too. And uh,
- 7:24Speaker 1: the fact is that I am certainly as mortal as anyone,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and I'm just gonna lay those mistakes out in front
- 7:30Speaker 1: of you, which I have for better or for worse,
- 7:33Speaker 1: and hopefully this can be the beginning of a story
- 7:36Speaker 1: of one of the successes that you get to follow
- 7:39Speaker 1: along with as well. And hopefully the same goes for
- 7:41Speaker 1: you guys too. So here's my recommendation for you. If
- 7:45Speaker 1: you have not listened to episode two oh six, I'd
- 7:48Speaker 1: highly recommend you go and listen to that one first.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I'd hit pause on this and then go search for
- 7:53Speaker 1: Wired to Hunt episode two zero six, because that one
- 7:56Speaker 1: we go really really deep into the foundations of oles
- 8:00Speaker 1: whole process, the whole science and background and foundation of
- 8:04Speaker 1: the way he teaches archery, the way he um has
- 8:08Speaker 1: found the science to back up the best way to shoot,
- 8:11Speaker 1: the best way to build your archery process. Um. We
- 8:15Speaker 1: we dabble in that in this episode. We kind of
- 8:17Speaker 1: cover a cliff notes version of it. So if you
- 8:20Speaker 1: if you can't go back and listen to US six,
- 8:22Speaker 1: we'll try to give you the basic bare bones idea, like, hey,
- 8:24Speaker 1: this is what he does, this is what the philosophy is,
- 8:27Speaker 1: this is the basic gist of it. But I really
- 8:29Speaker 1: think you would get more out of this if you
- 8:32Speaker 1: go back and listen to all of two oh six first,
- 8:35Speaker 1: because that's going to give you a really strong foundation
- 8:37Speaker 1: and context. I'll give you the language and the understanding
- 8:40Speaker 1: that when you jump up to this one now and
- 8:43Speaker 1: you get to hear about the exercises I did, you'll
- 8:45Speaker 1: get to hear about the different things that Joel talked
- 8:47Speaker 1: to me about, Um, it'll all make a lot more sense.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And then yes, we'll cover a few things again, but
- 8:52Speaker 1: I think that by covering it in a review kind
- 8:55Speaker 1: of format, it will all click more for you. And
- 8:58Speaker 1: then as we're walking through the extra little practice that
- 9:00Speaker 1: I go through, the actual drills, I went through, the
- 9:03Speaker 1: actual step by step plan that I put in place,
- 9:06Speaker 1: the shooting process that I put in place, I think
- 9:08Speaker 1: it'll all really click into place if you have that
- 9:11Speaker 1: prior foundation. So that's my my ask. I know it's
- 9:15Speaker 1: a lot to commit to going back and listening to
- 9:18Speaker 1: another podcast as well, but I do think you'll get
- 9:20Speaker 1: more out of this episode. So two or six, and
- 9:24Speaker 1: then tune in to this one to see what I
- 9:26Speaker 1: did with Joel in person and to hear about what
- 9:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna be doing about what I'm gonna be doing
- 9:30Speaker 1: in the future. And then I guess the final thing
- 9:33Speaker 1: is stick with me through the fall. Let's see how
- 9:37Speaker 1: all this plays out. Let's see if I can get better,
- 9:41Speaker 1: if I can learn, if I can grow, if I
- 9:42Speaker 1: can execute on some of these changes that I'm talking about.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I sure plan on it, and I'm excited about that
- 9:48Speaker 1: and excited to share that with you guys, and hopefully
- 9:50Speaker 1: to hear about similar stories from all of you as well.
- 9:52Speaker 1: So here's the getting control of our bow hunting and
- 9:56Speaker 1: archery game. Here's the getting better at it. Man. It's
- 9:58Speaker 1: one of the craziest, most exciting, most exhilarating, frustrating, satisfying, enjoyable,
- 10:06Speaker 1: uh crazy experiences in the world. Right, That's why we
- 10:10Speaker 1: love this stuff so much. And uh, I'm here to
- 10:13Speaker 1: keep on climbing up the mountain, trying to get to
- 10:15Speaker 1: that point where I can be the best I can
- 10:17Speaker 1: be and uh really get the most out of this
- 10:20Speaker 1: thing as possible. So that's why we did this podcast today.
- 10:23Speaker 1: That's why I'm talking to Joel Turner. I think you're
- 10:26Speaker 1: really gonna enjoy this. I think you'll really enjoy episode.
- 10:29Speaker 1: This is some of the best archery content I've found
- 10:32Speaker 1: anywhere as far as what Joel has to teach. Um.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.
- 10:38Speaker 1: So here's me and Joel sitting in his house in
- 10:40Speaker 1: Washington State, recapping my day with him this April. All right,
- 10:47Speaker 1: I am here now with Joel Turner. Shot at cute Joel.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I just gotta say thank you. It's been a day, buddy,
- 10:56Speaker 1: has been a day, a good day, and I I'm
- 11:00Speaker 1: very appreciative. So what I want to do here now
- 11:04Speaker 1: is rewind the tape a bit and set the stage,
- 11:08Speaker 1: lay some groundwork for folks that haven't listened to the
- 11:11Speaker 1: first podcast we did a number of years ago, so
- 11:13Speaker 1: so touch a little bit about that, and then fast
- 11:15Speaker 1: forward and spend most of our time diving into what
- 11:17Speaker 1: happened today. But for that kind of groundwork, can you
- 11:22Speaker 1: start with the story you told me earlier this morning
- 11:25Speaker 1: about how you came to the epiphany that open your
- 11:30Speaker 1: eyes to this new world of shooting that you now occupy.
- 11:33Speaker 1: How did you get here? So do you want the
- 11:37Speaker 1: firearms instructions story or do you want the archery story
- 11:41Speaker 1: from two thousand eight? I was thinking the archery story.
- 11:44Speaker 1: But if you feel like the firearms one is important
- 11:46Speaker 1: to understand this, then yeah, it's it's of utmost importance
- 11:50Speaker 1: because I did not know how to concentrate back then,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and being a new police officer, a new firearms and structor,
- 12:01Speaker 1: a person that had somewhat gained control of a firearm
- 12:05Speaker 1: shot at this point, but I did not know how
- 12:07Speaker 1: to transfer that information. And that's when you know, we
- 12:12Speaker 1: just one academy class. I was a fairly new instructor,
- 12:16Speaker 1: and for decades the farm's instruction had been front site,
- 12:19Speaker 1: front site, front site. That's what the instructor would yell
- 12:22Speaker 1: all the time. Front side, front side, front side. You
- 12:24Speaker 1: need to have clear focus on the front side. And
- 12:27Speaker 1: everything was about aiming. But then they would talk extensively
- 12:31Speaker 1: about trigger work and pressing the trigger slowly and and
- 12:37Speaker 1: all of these things and letting it surprise you, and
- 12:40Speaker 1: all this stuff. But nobody ever told me or anybody
- 12:43Speaker 1: else how to actually do that. I mean, we've all
- 12:46Speaker 1: had instruction from grandparents and parents of let it surprise you,
- 12:52Speaker 1: you know, press trigger slowly or whatever it may be,
- 12:54Speaker 1: squeeze the trigger and all these things. So starting to
- 12:59Speaker 1: figure things out, but not necessarily knowing how to transfer
- 13:02Speaker 1: to other people. And then I had that one recruit
- 13:05Speaker 1: and I was keeping my eye on this kid I'll
- 13:08Speaker 1: call him at the time, and he was what we
- 13:10Speaker 1: would call a nervous nelly. And so the targets at
- 13:14Speaker 1: twenty yards and he's bouncing bullets off the floor of
- 13:18Speaker 1: the academy range and they were hitting it about the
- 13:20Speaker 1: fifteen yard mark. So his pre ignition movements were extraordinary, right,
- 13:26Speaker 1: I mean, just a very his yips and nervous personality.
- 13:31Speaker 1: His flinch was massive, and I watched him bounce a
- 13:35Speaker 1: couple of bullets off the floor, and then I went
- 13:37Speaker 1: over to him and I'm thinking to myself, how in
- 13:39Speaker 1: the world am I going to get this kid to
- 13:42Speaker 1: concentrate on the trigger press Because it was a precision
- 13:45Speaker 1: environment that we that we were shooting at that particular moment.
- 13:48Speaker 1: We just wanted him to get rounds into the ten
- 13:51Speaker 1: ring at twenty yards, which is a fairly difficult distance
- 13:53Speaker 1: with a pistol. And so that's when I just I
- 13:58Speaker 1: got on the driver's side of his still so I
- 14:00Speaker 1: could see the tip of his finger. He's a right
- 14:02Speaker 1: handed shooter, and I said, okay, I want you to
- 14:04Speaker 1: take the slack out of the trigger, but don't make
- 14:07Speaker 1: the gun go off. And I watched him his finger
- 14:10Speaker 1: moved to the pressure wall and the trigger and he
- 14:11Speaker 1: was shooting a glock, and I said, okay, start pressing
- 14:15Speaker 1: the trigger, but don't make the gun go off. And
- 14:17Speaker 1: once I saw his finger move, that's when I started
- 14:21Speaker 1: talking him through the shot. Me. I was doing the talking,
- 14:25Speaker 1: and so I'm saying to him, keep pressing, keep pressing,
- 14:28Speaker 1: keep pressing, and I'm watching his finger move in the
- 14:32Speaker 1: exact rate of my speech. And finally that shot broke
- 14:37Speaker 1: and he shot it right through the middle because it
- 14:39Speaker 1: was the first time ever that it was a surprise
- 14:42Speaker 1: break for him and it scared him, and it's it
- 14:46Speaker 1: was supposed to write. So that was my lightbulb moment
- 14:50Speaker 1: for all of this control process shooting. As I went,
- 14:54Speaker 1: I had complete control of this kid's mind through what
- 14:57Speaker 1: I said and then I started think about firearms instruction
- 15:01Speaker 1: in a different way. I started to think, why do
- 15:02Speaker 1: we keep yelling front sight, front sight, front sight at
- 15:06Speaker 1: these at these shooters, because all that does is put
- 15:10Speaker 1: their conscious mind into the site system when it needs
- 15:13Speaker 1: to be in the trigger movement. And so I completely
- 15:17Speaker 1: changed how we thought about firearms shooting. And in that
- 15:23Speaker 1: time frame, this is about two thousand three, So in
- 15:27Speaker 1: that time frame, I am uh just now starting to
- 15:32Speaker 1: gain control of my own shot. In archery. I was
- 15:35Speaker 1: shooting a compound bare bow at the time, and I
- 15:38Speaker 1: put a clicker on my bow, and so I was
- 15:40Speaker 1: able to use that as a mechanic receptive trigger. So
- 15:43Speaker 1: I would draw back and aim, and then I would
- 15:46Speaker 1: expand with some back tension and some forward pressure until
- 15:50Speaker 1: that clicker would click and you'd let it go right.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And that gave me some more control. But I didn't
- 15:57Speaker 1: understand the science of it at the time, and so
- 16:01Speaker 1: several years went by of being able to do it
- 16:04Speaker 1: on a target range but not being able to do
- 16:06Speaker 1: it on a critter. And then fast forward to two
- 16:09Speaker 1: thousand and eight, so I'm I'm really working on the
- 16:11Speaker 1: farms instruction end of it. But then I'm taking the
- 16:13Speaker 1: things that I'm learning in firearms and I'm putting it
- 16:16Speaker 1: over to the archer side. And so, uh, two thousand
- 16:22Speaker 1: and eight comes along. I'm hunting down the King ranch
- 16:25Speaker 1: and I'm not hitting anything. I mean, I've shot at
- 16:28Speaker 1: least ten shots in this hunt. And so I got
- 16:32Speaker 1: a little piste off at my buddies because they were
- 16:34Speaker 1: making fun of me, right because I'm so when you're
- 16:36Speaker 1: sorry to interrupt it, when you're when you're not hitting stuff,
- 16:39Speaker 1: what are you doing? It's making you not hits. I'm
- 16:43Speaker 1: just barely getting to the aim and then that would
- 16:46Speaker 1: trigger my shot. So as soon as I would get
- 16:49Speaker 1: an aim on a critter, I would shoot. But because
- 16:52Speaker 1: I was allowing my subconscious to tell itself when to
- 16:55Speaker 1: let go, it was linking pre ignition movements to my
- 16:59Speaker 1: really east motor program, which carried me outside the acceptable
- 17:03Speaker 1: range I was missing. So this one shot came along.
- 17:07Speaker 1: It was, you know, ten shots into this hunt, and
- 17:12Speaker 1: I went to a feeder by myself, got a little
- 17:14Speaker 1: piste off into a feeder by myself. I set the
- 17:18Speaker 1: feeder off, I tucked myself back in the brush, and
- 17:21Speaker 1: here comes a hog right as big brown and black
- 17:24Speaker 1: hog and he's coming in at fifty yards out. I
- 17:26Speaker 1: said to myself, this time, turner, this time, you're going
- 17:29Speaker 1: to do it right. And that was a decision that
- 17:32Speaker 1: I made, not knowing it at the time. And then
- 17:35Speaker 1: that hog comes into twenty yards and turns broadside, and
- 17:37Speaker 1: we all know that feeling of when we believe the
- 17:40Speaker 1: shot is imminent, and that's when we have physiological changes
- 17:44Speaker 1: happened to our body where we get adrenaline, we sweat,
- 17:47Speaker 1: we you know, our respiration goes up, and blood pressure
- 17:51Speaker 1: goes up and all these things. Your body readies itself
- 17:54Speaker 1: for a stressful situation, a stressful environment. And so I
- 17:59Speaker 1: made that one decision when that hog was fifty yards out,
- 18:02Speaker 1: But then when he got to twenty and turned broadside,
- 18:04Speaker 1: I got all that adrenaline dump and all that stuff.
- 18:06Speaker 1: So I just I drew my bow back. And I
- 18:08Speaker 1: had drawn my bow back so many times and had
- 18:13Speaker 1: this feeling of anxiety, this knowledge that I wasn't going
- 18:17Speaker 1: to get through my clicker. All the same nightmare was
- 18:19Speaker 1: happening all over again in this shot. But for some reason,
- 18:23Speaker 1: I don't know if I was just piste off enough
- 18:25Speaker 1: at that point or whatever, I got to full draw
- 18:27Speaker 1: on that hog and I was locked off the target.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I was locked low, and I knew I was locked low,
- 18:32Speaker 1: and it wasn't It was wasn't going well. So that
- 18:36Speaker 1: one time I said, I ain't doing this again, and
- 18:39Speaker 1: that's when I let that shot down. And at that
- 18:42Speaker 1: moment it finally meant more to me to stay in
- 18:46Speaker 1: the shot process than to kill the hog. And I'm
- 18:50Speaker 1: telling you right now, if I wouldn't have had Texas,
- 18:52Speaker 1: I don't think I would ever reach that point. Because
- 18:55Speaker 1: in Texas you get multiple shots per day on certain
- 18:58Speaker 1: critters or what hogs, of jack rabbits or whatever it
- 19:01Speaker 1: may be. And in Washington here I get one, maybe
- 19:05Speaker 1: two arrows a year. So it was a lifetime of fail.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Wait a year, failed twice, wait a year, fail again, right,
- 19:13Speaker 1: and just the learning curve just it takes way too
- 19:15Speaker 1: long when you're in a place like Washington where you
- 19:18Speaker 1: just don't get very many opportunities. So Texas was it
- 19:21Speaker 1: for me, and so I let that shot down, and
- 19:24Speaker 1: again that was my turning point. That's the point at
- 19:27Speaker 1: which it meant more to me to stay in that
- 19:28Speaker 1: shot process than to kill that hog. So before I
- 19:33Speaker 1: drew the bow back again because the hog didn't see me.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Before I drew that bow back again, I said, I'm
- 19:38Speaker 1: gonna shoot this shot perfectly or I'm not going to
- 19:40Speaker 1: shoot it at all. First time I'd ever made what
- 19:42Speaker 1: we call now the original decision. And so I drew
- 19:46Speaker 1: my bow back with this newfound knowledge and purpose right.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Because I knew how to shoot a controlled shot, I
- 19:51Speaker 1: just never could put it together on a game animal.
- 19:54Speaker 1: So I'm gonna shoot this shot perfectly or not at all.
- 20:00Speaker 1: And I drew my bow back, and as I'm drawing
- 20:02Speaker 1: my bow back, I said, I'm gonna do this right.
- 20:04Speaker 1: And that was the first time I'd ever made a
- 20:06Speaker 1: decision within the shot process. So I've got a decision
- 20:10Speaker 1: I made before the shot process. Now I'm drawing my
- 20:12Speaker 1: bow with knowledge and purpose. As I draw my bow back,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I make another decision. I'm gonna shoot this shot perfectly.
- 20:18Speaker 1: I said, I'm gonna do this right. That's what we
- 20:21Speaker 1: call the half drawn moment. And then so I got
- 20:25Speaker 1: my aim and I was present. Now I was in
- 20:27Speaker 1: this process and I'm aiming at this hog, and all
- 20:29Speaker 1: I really need to do is let the arrow go.
- 20:32Speaker 1: But because I was so present, I remembered, Oh yeah, dummy,
- 20:36Speaker 1: you got to get through the clicker. So that's when
- 20:39Speaker 1: I said, here I go, and then keep pulling, keep pull,
- 20:43Speaker 1: and keep pulling, keep pull, and I'm working through that
- 20:46Speaker 1: clicker and the clicker clicks and I shoot that air
- 20:49Speaker 1: and I smoked that hog. But I never blueprinted how
- 20:52Speaker 1: I did it right. And that's what took so many
- 20:54Speaker 1: years between two thousand and eight and two thousand fourteen,
- 20:58Speaker 1: because I wasn't blueprint it. I had a couple of successes.
- 21:02Speaker 1: You did it right, but you weren't able to describe
- 21:04Speaker 1: exactly what you did right. Almo, I didn't even try.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I didn't even analyze it. I just was celebrating the
- 21:09Speaker 1: fact that I finally controlled the shot on a game animal.
- 21:12Speaker 1: But I never blew printed it until December fourteen, two
- 21:15Speaker 1: thousand fourteen. So in the fourteenth you did the same
- 21:19Speaker 1: kind of thing, but you looked back on and said, okay,
- 21:21Speaker 1: well I made this original decision. I made this decision
- 21:24Speaker 1: within the process. And then I had what you now
- 21:27Speaker 1: call the critical second, where you just where you say, okay,
- 21:30Speaker 1: now it's now let's go time, here we go. And
- 21:32Speaker 1: then finally you had this final mantra that you worked
- 21:36Speaker 1: through the trigger worked through that final release process or movement.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I guess. And you know, during all these all this
- 21:43Speaker 1: time between two thousand three and two thousand fourteen, I'm
- 21:47Speaker 1: just trying to work this system. But all I had
- 21:50Speaker 1: was experience. I did not know the science of what
- 21:53Speaker 1: I was trying to do. And that's when that one
- 21:55Speaker 1: gentleman said, what you're doing works, but it's not right.
- 21:58Speaker 1: And I said, I want to know what right? So
- 22:00Speaker 1: he said, well, you gotta take my class, And so
- 22:02Speaker 1: I took his class and Advanced Concepts and motor learning
- 22:04Speaker 1: and performance, and that gave me the scientific basis for
- 22:08Speaker 1: all the things that worked and didn't work, and how
- 22:11Speaker 1: your mind actually functions in high stress shooting events, and
- 22:15Speaker 1: how it works against you in almost every step of
- 22:18Speaker 1: the way. So can you give me the cliff notes version.
- 22:22Speaker 1: We did a deep, deeper div in this last time,
- 22:24Speaker 1: but can you give me the cliff notes version of
- 22:27Speaker 1: the open loop versus closed loop, which I think was
- 22:29Speaker 1: the main point of what that class was. You took
- 22:33Speaker 1: with that gentleman, right, that's when you kind of dove
- 22:34Speaker 1: into that. So what at a high level does that
- 22:37Speaker 1: look like? So open loop control system would be a
- 22:41Speaker 1: control system that's used for any movement that is supposed
- 22:45Speaker 1: to be fast enough. You're not supposed to gain feedback
- 22:48Speaker 1: within it, like swinging a baseball bat, swinging a golf club,
- 22:51Speaker 1: throwing a football, any of those movements are you you
- 22:56Speaker 1: start in a cognitive stage of learning where it's very
- 22:58Speaker 1: choppy and it has ups to it, and then you
- 23:01Speaker 1: practice with the goal of becoming automatic muscle memories, so
- 23:06Speaker 1: and you know, it's just building motor programs. So that's
- 23:10Speaker 1: the human learning model. That's how we start cognitive. Then
- 23:14Speaker 1: we practice with the goal of becoming automatic. And the
- 23:17Speaker 1: problem with shooting is that we follow that same pattern.
- 23:22Speaker 1: But but shooting involves an explosion that your mind has
- 23:25Speaker 1: an aversion to from birth. So open loop is where
- 23:29Speaker 1: your mind wants to go. It is the brain sending
- 23:32Speaker 1: a motor program to the effect or. The effector is
- 23:35Speaker 1: the muscle group that catches the motor program, and it's
- 23:40Speaker 1: too fast to gain feedback within it. And for most
- 23:43Speaker 1: sports that's good. For most movements, that's a good thing,
- 23:47Speaker 1: but for trigger work it's not because if you go
- 23:51Speaker 1: open loop and your trigger meaning punching the trigger you're
- 23:54Speaker 1: moving your trigger to rate that's so fast you cannot
- 23:57Speaker 1: stop it. Therefore you cannot gain feedback within it. Therefore
- 24:01Speaker 1: your mind is open then to link pre ignition movements
- 24:05Speaker 1: to that trigger motor program, like the flinch in a firearm.
- 24:08Speaker 1: It's the exact same thing with a bow. It's just
- 24:12Speaker 1: those pre ignition movements get masked by the bow going
- 24:14Speaker 1: off because we don't have a safety on our bow, right,
- 24:17Speaker 1: We don't have a bow that only goes off some
- 24:19Speaker 1: of the time, right, And so in an archer, this
- 24:22Speaker 1: looks like rushing the shot. This is like punching the
- 24:25Speaker 1: triggers very efficient. It's very efficient. As soon as that pin,
- 24:29Speaker 1: as soon as that pin gets on, or as soon
- 24:30Speaker 1: as the pin gets close, you start. Your mind wants
- 24:34Speaker 1: to use that site picture as the shot stimulus. So
- 24:37Speaker 1: as soon as and that makes intuitive sense, my pins on,
- 24:40Speaker 1: shoot it. Right. But if you want to go precise,
- 24:43Speaker 1: if you want to get good and accurate, there has
- 24:46Speaker 1: to be a moment where you stop the train and
- 24:49Speaker 1: go close. Loop closed. Loop is slow enough, the movement
- 24:53Speaker 1: is now slow enough you could stop it anywhere within
- 24:56Speaker 1: it slow enough you can now gain feedback within the
- 24:59Speaker 1: move like if you watch Bodie's hinge work, or if
- 25:02Speaker 1: you watch me work a grips here on a on
- 25:05Speaker 1: a stickbow, the movement is so slow that it's almost imperceptible.
- 25:10Speaker 1: But we are working, right, And now you've experienced that
- 25:13Speaker 1: where you hooked that finger around the trigger and you're
- 25:15Speaker 1: working and you're talking yourself through that so that you
- 25:18Speaker 1: can concentrate on it, and it's moving so slow that
- 25:23Speaker 1: you could stop it anywhere within it, and then all
- 25:26Speaker 1: of a sudden it breaks, and your mind doesn't know
- 25:28Speaker 1: when it's going to break. Therefore it doesn't know when
- 25:30Speaker 1: to put pre ignition movements in there. It's basically the
- 25:35Speaker 1: conscious override. I mean, I don't consider myself a shooting instructor.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I teach the conscious defiance of human nature, right literally,
- 25:43Speaker 1: that's what we're that's that is what we are teaching.
- 25:45Speaker 1: It's a much better title, but we'll left it on
- 25:47Speaker 1: a business card. Yeah right, I don't know. So okay,
- 26:04Speaker 1: So closed loop shooting. Closed loop processes allow us to
- 26:10Speaker 1: retake control of our shot. What does that? What does that? Actually? What?
- 26:17Speaker 1: Let me let me get let me take a different
- 26:19Speaker 1: angle at this. I guess we chatted three years ago
- 26:23Speaker 1: or four years ago or something, and I listened to
- 26:26Speaker 1: some other things you've done with other people, and then
- 26:27Speaker 1: we chatted through this and you told me about closed
- 26:29Speaker 1: loop versus open loop, and we talked about how you know,
- 26:32Speaker 1: you want to have you know, actual you know, words
- 26:37Speaker 1: or phrases that you use to lock yourself into this
- 26:39Speaker 1: process along the way, um, and that allows you to
- 26:43Speaker 1: retake that control. So so I heard those things and
- 26:45Speaker 1: I started trying to put some of that into effect,
- 26:48Speaker 1: and then you know, I did a little bit of that,
- 26:50Speaker 1: and then probably the next year, I was convinced to
- 26:54Speaker 1: try using a silver back, which then is you know,
- 26:57Speaker 1: attention release. That kept me from be able bunch of
- 27:00Speaker 1: trigger and I was forced to slow down to a
- 27:02Speaker 1: degree um. And so for a couple of years, you know,
- 27:05Speaker 1: that worked. I had better shots on animals. I felt
- 27:07Speaker 1: like behind the house practicing, I felt you know, in
- 27:09Speaker 1: control and all that. And then this past season, you know,
- 27:14Speaker 1: stuff started not going right, and then that built onto
- 27:17Speaker 1: after the first hunt didn't go right that I'm thinking
- 27:20Speaker 1: more and more about it in the sex second hunt
- 27:22Speaker 1: and that doesn't go quite right. I definitely know I
- 27:24Speaker 1: rushed a shot on my second hunt so I'm thinking
- 27:26Speaker 1: about it more and more and more. And the third hunt,
- 27:28Speaker 1: I had a series of things where I rushed the
- 27:30Speaker 1: shot again and clear missed an animal. And now by
- 27:33Speaker 1: the fourth hunt, I'm, you know, actively turning down shots
- 27:38Speaker 1: that I would have taken three months earlier. And so
- 27:41Speaker 1: now stuff is just crumbling. My confidence is crumbling, everything's crumbling.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I realized at the end of the year, you know,
- 27:49Speaker 1: I need to reassess where I'm at and what I've
- 27:51Speaker 1: been doing. A friends recommendation brought me back to you,
- 27:57Speaker 1: and this time thinking, okay, I can't just listen to
- 28:00Speaker 1: what he said and say I'll take a little bit
- 28:01Speaker 1: of it, and said it was okay. I need to
- 28:03Speaker 1: completely build myself back up and do it perfectly, do
- 28:07Speaker 1: it the full way that it's supposed to be done,
- 28:09Speaker 1: which is what brought me here today. So this morning
- 28:13Speaker 1: we got together. I told you this story. I told
- 28:15Speaker 1: you what happened to me. I told you what I
- 28:18Speaker 1: tried so far. What was your analysis of my situation
- 28:23Speaker 1: when I when I showed up at your doorstep and
- 28:25Speaker 1: you heard what I had to say and you saw
- 28:28Speaker 1: me shoot a few times. What was what was like
- 28:31Speaker 1: your diagnosis? What was wrong with me? Or where was
- 28:34Speaker 1: I at or what was my problem? When you heard
- 28:36Speaker 1: all of those things. So you were almost there, just
- 28:40Speaker 1: because I know that you have knowledge of this system
- 28:42Speaker 1: from our previous conversations, and then you get to shoot
- 28:46Speaker 1: quite a few critters per year. You were almost there,
- 28:50Speaker 1: but you were not accepting the science of how it
- 28:54Speaker 1: really worked. And and maybe you weren't aware of the
- 28:57Speaker 1: science and how it worked. But I knew that would
- 29:00Speaker 1: be an easy fix, just just from listening to you talk.
- 29:04Speaker 1: And when I can assess somebody's personality, I instantly know.
- 29:08Speaker 1: And then we do the signature test, and I instantly
- 29:10Speaker 1: know how easy it's going to be for you because
- 29:14Speaker 1: that signature test, you know, test your ability to make
- 29:16Speaker 1: decisions right and how deep is your determination? Well, you
- 29:20Speaker 1: know you were You were determined. You're a very determined person.
- 29:24Speaker 1: But that led to frustration only because you may not
- 29:30Speaker 1: have understood what to do with your determination right. You
- 29:33Speaker 1: need to turn your determination into not better shooting, you
- 29:37Speaker 1: needed to turn into better thinking right, and how to
- 29:40Speaker 1: actually think your way through a shot. So the first
- 29:43Speaker 1: time I watched you shoot a shot, I mean I
- 29:45Speaker 1: gave you a release that you've never even shot before.
- 29:47Speaker 1: I didn't let you shoot the silver Back. And this
- 29:49Speaker 1: is nothing against tension actively releases. They are a phenomenal
- 29:52Speaker 1: tool and I used them very regularly in my clinics.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I use them for a very specific purpose because if
- 29:59Speaker 1: some many goes to attention actior release because it's the
- 30:02Speaker 1: only one they can control, then you get stuck in
- 30:06Speaker 1: that and and I don't want people to be stuck.
- 30:09Speaker 1: I want you to be able to run any release
- 30:11Speaker 1: you want, write anything from you know, index finger trigger,
- 30:16Speaker 1: thumb button, hinge, hinge with a safety, hinge without a safety.
- 30:19Speaker 1: It doesn't matter whatever tension activated. You should be able
- 30:22Speaker 1: to run them all if you understand the trigger system.
- 30:24Speaker 1: So I don't want people to get stuck because attention
- 30:27Speaker 1: ACTIVIR release forces you into the decision of movement. Safety
- 30:32Speaker 1: goes in drawback and aim safety comes off, so it
- 30:36Speaker 1: gives you this big separation from the aim by taking
- 30:39Speaker 1: the safety off, and then if you don't decide to move,
- 30:44Speaker 1: your bow is not gonna go off. So it forces
- 30:47Speaker 1: you into the decision. Whereas I want you to be
- 30:50Speaker 1: able to make that decision with any release and run anything.
- 30:54Speaker 1: So I knew that just from you shooting the silver
- 30:57Speaker 1: back so much. I knew that you would. It would
- 31:00Speaker 1: be an easy fix, right. And then when I gave
- 31:02Speaker 1: you that that B three Hawk flex and had you
- 31:07Speaker 1: shoot it, I watched you put your finger around the
- 31:10Speaker 1: trigger and then you started to move and it didn't
- 31:13Speaker 1: go off because I've got it set really tight, and
- 31:16Speaker 1: it didn't go off. So there was this you can
- 31:19Speaker 1: see this confusion start in your mind. I mean, I'm
- 31:22Speaker 1: watching all this in one shot, the first shot that
- 31:24Speaker 1: you shot in front of me. So you started and
- 31:26Speaker 1: then it stopped, and then you punched the trigger, right,
- 31:30Speaker 1: And when I asked you what you were thinking about,
- 31:32Speaker 1: you were thinking about the release and the movement and
- 31:35Speaker 1: how you were thinking Instead of about the movement, you
- 31:38Speaker 1: were thinking, when's this thing going to go off? How
- 31:40Speaker 1: much pressure do I gotta put on this thing? Man?
- 31:43Speaker 1: This thing is tight. All of those thoughts do not
- 31:46Speaker 1: equal movement, right, So you weren't actually putting your conscious
- 31:50Speaker 1: mind into the movement. It was stuck in questions why
- 31:53Speaker 1: isn't it going off yet? When's it going to go off?
- 31:55Speaker 1: And that's as soon as your thought process leaves the movement,
- 31:59Speaker 1: the subconscious rushes in autopilot punches the trigger for you
- 32:03Speaker 1: and puts pre ignition movements along with your trigger motor program.
- 32:07Speaker 1: But then your second and third shot were better still
- 32:10Speaker 1: a little bit of open looping the trigger, and that
- 32:13Speaker 1: just told me that's it's going to be an easy fix.
- 32:16Speaker 1: So so from there, I think we then talked through
- 32:21Speaker 1: how I need to start putting both decisions and words
- 32:24Speaker 1: to my entire process right. Well, first we talked about
- 32:27Speaker 1: the aim right and the science of aiming and visual
- 32:30Speaker 1: appropriate reception. How you really don't have any control over
- 32:33Speaker 1: your aim anyways you put it. You had a really
- 32:36Speaker 1: great little exercise I did that was really um interesting,
- 32:42Speaker 1: which was where you told me like hold up a
- 32:44Speaker 1: pistol like if I was gonna be shooting a gun,
- 32:46Speaker 1: and then you just want me to aim it and
- 32:48Speaker 1: not doing and do nothing but aim it. And then
- 32:51Speaker 1: well maybe you should tell me what you do. So
- 32:53Speaker 1: I do that. I I put your conscious mind into
- 32:56Speaker 1: the aim, and then I gave you impact within the
- 32:58Speaker 1: aiming system. So I simply got you to aim at
- 33:02Speaker 1: a target with your little thumb front site, and then
- 33:04Speaker 1: I tap your hands and you can see my hand
- 33:07Speaker 1: coming at your hand, and so your body formulates motor
- 33:10Speaker 1: programs against it, form its reactions against that impact, and
- 33:15Speaker 1: then I when I missed your hand, you move significantly
- 33:19Speaker 1: and because your mind believed the impact was coming. So
- 33:22Speaker 1: that's exactly what happens in a shot where your mind
- 33:26Speaker 1: is using the site for the site picture as the
- 33:29Speaker 1: stimulus for your shot. And if you put your conscious
- 33:32Speaker 1: mind in that, you're going to punch the trigger every
- 33:35Speaker 1: single time, every single time. And so then the the
- 33:39Speaker 1: other thing is you were describing with that aim is
- 33:40Speaker 1: that if we just if I aim and I'm what
- 33:45Speaker 1: I'm looking at, it will naturally want to go back
- 33:48Speaker 1: to their So so describe describe why what am I
- 33:53Speaker 1: trying to say here? I think in the past, you know,
- 33:55Speaker 1: pre I've had a several step process. I made one
- 33:58Speaker 1: set of progress when we first talked, and when I
- 34:00Speaker 1: switched the silver back. That's when I started to learn
- 34:03Speaker 1: not to focus on trying to hold the pen rock steady.
- 34:05Speaker 1: I did get better just letting the pin hover and
- 34:08Speaker 1: and just letting naturally do what you're describing. And then
- 34:11Speaker 1: I think where I've had to now make this next
- 34:13Speaker 1: step is is focusing my mind now into really getting
- 34:17Speaker 1: this next movement. Um, But walk me through that whole aiming.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Walk me through what I sort of learned a couple
- 34:25Speaker 1: of years ago. When it comes to just letting it flow,
- 34:28Speaker 1: letting it be, and not being focused on that right.
- 34:31Speaker 1: You literally have no control, no physical control over your aim.
- 34:35Speaker 1: It's it's through a system called visual appropriate exception. So
- 34:39Speaker 1: the analogy that I like to use is driving. So
- 34:42Speaker 1: you are driving down the road and you get visual
- 34:44Speaker 1: feedback to your vehicle's vering slightly to the left, and
- 34:47Speaker 1: you make an automatic correction on the steering roil without
- 34:50Speaker 1: even having to think about it. You make a correction
- 34:52Speaker 1: on the steering wheel, and when you get the right
- 34:53Speaker 1: visual feedback to your vehicles back in the center of lane,
- 34:56Speaker 1: that movement on the steering wheel stops and then goes
- 34:58Speaker 1: the other direction based on the next visual feedback that
- 35:01Speaker 1: you get. So no matter which way your pin moves,
- 35:04Speaker 1: it's next movement is always back to the center. And
- 35:07Speaker 1: that's not done physically, it's done mentally. Your subconscious is
- 35:11Speaker 1: very good at aiming, and that's where you should leave
- 35:14Speaker 1: it right. You should let the subconscious have the aim,
- 35:17Speaker 1: So drawback and aim. Get it done. Don't be moving
- 35:20Speaker 1: slowly into the target, you know coming up from the bottom, down,
- 35:24Speaker 1: from the top end, from the side. You should not
- 35:25Speaker 1: know what direction your pin comes from. All you should
- 35:29Speaker 1: know is get it on the target as quickly as
- 35:31Speaker 1: possible and then enjoy the show because you don't have
- 35:34Speaker 1: any control over it anyways, Watch it dance, let it
- 35:38Speaker 1: do its thing, and move on to way more important
- 35:41Speaker 1: things in your shot. Your pin does not need to
- 35:44Speaker 1: be in the middle for you to hit the middle.
- 35:47Speaker 1: So you're telling me I don't need to pick a
- 35:49Speaker 1: hair and have it be staying right on that single
- 35:51Speaker 1: hair the entire time, just perfect. But picking a hair,
- 35:54Speaker 1: picking a spot is a good thing because it gives
- 35:57Speaker 1: that pin a much more acute anchor point to always
- 36:00Speaker 1: come back to right. Subconsciously, yeah, so it's not swinging
- 36:03Speaker 1: through the lungs. It's swinging you know, through that hair.
- 36:08Speaker 1: That hair, that spot that you pick must be the
- 36:11Speaker 1: anchor point that it always comes back to right. And
- 36:14Speaker 1: many people out there, many of your listeners, I guarantee
- 36:17Speaker 1: you are locked off the target. They can't even put
- 36:20Speaker 1: their pin on the target, and then any movement towards
- 36:22Speaker 1: the target causes them to punch the trigger. So you
- 36:25Speaker 1: have and that's natural, and your mind loves you for it,
- 36:29Speaker 1: right it because it was able to hold you off target.
- 36:32Speaker 1: So the pins still in the grenade, and then once
- 36:35Speaker 1: you yip your bow up or down and then you
- 36:39Speaker 1: punch the trigger, your mind is really able to brace
- 36:42Speaker 1: you for that impact. So it's it's a series of
- 36:46Speaker 1: decisions you described to me that I need to make
- 36:48Speaker 1: throughout this process to lock me in. And and I
- 36:53Speaker 1: don't know if you want to cover all that or
- 36:55Speaker 1: if you want to walk me through just a couple
- 36:56Speaker 1: of those key pieces, but but can you lay a
- 37:00Speaker 1: little bit of the groundwork there that you talked me through.
- 37:02Speaker 1: As far as my I kind of viewed them as
- 37:04Speaker 1: like speed bumps along my route. If if I'm if
- 37:08Speaker 1: the old me would see a deer come in and
- 37:11Speaker 1: I was drawing back, and the whole thing was like
- 37:13Speaker 1: I'm speeding through a stoplight. Maybe is what I was
- 37:16Speaker 1: historically doing. You've now been putting these great, big speed
- 37:20Speaker 1: bumps in the way where I have to stop in
- 37:22Speaker 1: my mind, I have to take control of the situation.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I have to remember, okay, now I'm moving to this
- 37:26Speaker 1: next stage, make this decision, and then I have a
- 37:29Speaker 1: set of words that I that that phrase I use
- 37:31Speaker 1: that that moves me to the next one, and then
- 37:33Speaker 1: I haven't stop point another decision. Can you talk me
- 37:36Speaker 1: through some of why that's important and what some of
- 37:38Speaker 1: those decisions are. So if you don't start the shot
- 37:42Speaker 1: with the decision, if you start the shot by drawing
- 37:45Speaker 1: your bow, you're already way behind the game. If you
- 37:48Speaker 1: start the shot with a decision like I'm gonna shoot
- 37:51Speaker 1: this show with control no matter what. Now we're not
- 37:54Speaker 1: thinking that's a you know, that's a huge ten point
- 37:57Speaker 1: back in front of us. We're thinking, I'm about the
- 38:00Speaker 1: shot process, right, So now you are, I'm shooting the
- 38:04Speaker 1: shot of control no matter what. That makes us intensely present.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Now when we draw our bow, we draw our bow
- 38:10Speaker 1: with knowledge and purpose on how it's gonna go right.
- 38:13Speaker 1: It's we have. What we have done today is we
- 38:15Speaker 1: have erased the wonder from your shot. You should have
- 38:19Speaker 1: zero percent wonder on how your SHOT's gonna go right.
- 38:23Speaker 1: So that and it all starts with what we call
- 38:25Speaker 1: that original decision. Before you draw your bow back, say
- 38:29Speaker 1: something right and no matter what is a very strong,
- 38:32Speaker 1: determined statement, no matter what. Then you draw your bow back,
- 38:36Speaker 1: and if you need more presence because that's what decision
- 38:39Speaker 1: to do. For us. Say something to yourself as you
- 38:42Speaker 1: draw your bow back, if you want to say something
- 38:45Speaker 1: about the process, like I'm gonna do this right, whatever
- 38:47Speaker 1: it may be, Say something when you draw your bow back,
- 38:50Speaker 1: and that will make you intensely present for your next task,
- 38:53Speaker 1: which is to get the pin on the target. And
- 38:56Speaker 1: then you address the trigger as the mechanical signal that
- 38:59Speaker 1: you are done aiming. And then now you're in that
- 39:04Speaker 1: critical second. And when you say address the trigger, sorry,
- 39:06Speaker 1: that's you're actually putting your finger on the trigger, putting
- 39:09Speaker 1: your thumb on the button or whatever. So now you're
- 39:12Speaker 1: working a hinge to a click or taking the safety
- 39:15Speaker 1: off your tension act their release. Right, You're now addressing
- 39:18Speaker 1: the trigger and then becomes the most important decision in
- 39:23Speaker 1: that critical second and gets you through that critical second.
- 39:26Speaker 1: That's here I go. And we say that because that
- 39:30Speaker 1: is verbage that is used to get people to hurl
- 39:32Speaker 1: their bodies out of airplanes. It is the embodiment of
- 39:35Speaker 1: the conscious override of your central nervous system that is
- 39:38Speaker 1: saying do not do this right, do not do this
- 39:41Speaker 1: movement that causes an explosion and attempt to surprise me
- 39:44Speaker 1: with that. Your your human mind is not like shooting
- 39:48Speaker 1: at all, right, it's all negative smoke, fire, noise, recoil,
- 39:53Speaker 1: you know, bows blowing up, all these things. So it
- 39:55Speaker 1: does not like that. So it literally takes a conscious override.
- 40:00Speaker 1: And that's where here I Go comes in. And so
- 40:03Speaker 1: that's that critical second, getting yourself through that one second
- 40:06Speaker 1: in time after your mind believes the aim is complete.
- 40:09Speaker 1: When you get yourself through that one second and you
- 40:12Speaker 1: use that second to increase your presence. Now we can
- 40:16Speaker 1: concentrate on this one task, which is moving the trigger
- 40:20Speaker 1: slow can stop it, and that that critical second for
- 40:24Speaker 1: many people. I think this is this is certainly what
- 40:27Speaker 1: I've experienced in the past, and I think this is
- 40:29Speaker 1: what you said for many people. That critical second is
- 40:31Speaker 1: when so many people that's when they want to go.
- 40:34Speaker 1: But if you can stop and not and just get
- 40:37Speaker 1: past that first wave of I want to shoot, you
- 40:40Speaker 1: get past that, and then you have this this this queue.
- 40:44Speaker 1: It's like to say you take the safety off, almost
- 40:47Speaker 1: metaphorically but kind of becomes literally taking the safety off
- 40:51Speaker 1: then and forcing that slow pause. Now, all of a sudden,
- 40:54Speaker 1: you can do this next thing which you're describe, which
- 40:56Speaker 1: is now your slow movement, which in the past would
- 40:59Speaker 1: have been just shot and now instead of think this thing,
- 41:04Speaker 1: this thing, and you know what's coming. That's the beauty,
- 41:07Speaker 1: that's the power of it is you know exactly what
- 41:10Speaker 1: you're doing next in your shot. There is no mystery
- 41:13Speaker 1: on how this shot is going to go. Where the
- 41:16Speaker 1: arrow goes, As Donny Vincent says, none of your business right,
- 41:19Speaker 1: And it's not because if you do your process, it's
- 41:22Speaker 1: going in the middle. Why wouldn't it right? So, I mean,
- 41:25Speaker 1: you got to see it today. You got to see
- 41:28Speaker 1: me perform with my nemesis critter, a coyote. Right. So
- 41:33Speaker 1: Mark's out there shooting today and uh and a coyote
- 41:36Speaker 1: runs out into my field and you go, hey, there's kyote.
- 41:38Speaker 1: So I instantly run to my gun safe, grabbed my six.
- 41:42Speaker 1: The worst decision that kyote it could have ever made.
- 41:45Speaker 1: I run the gun, safe, gets six five PRC. I
- 41:48Speaker 1: get out there. I'm I'm resting over this fence. And
- 41:51Speaker 1: that used to be a nightmare scenario for me. There's
- 41:54Speaker 1: no way I could hit a coyote. Before I understood
- 41:57Speaker 1: the science of how my mind work. As soon as
- 42:00Speaker 1: my crossers used to get on hair bingo. I punched
- 42:05Speaker 1: that trigger and I would miss because it would my
- 42:08Speaker 1: pre ignition movement that was linked to my trigger motor
- 42:10Speaker 1: program would just put me outside the acceptable reins. It's
- 42:14Speaker 1: not a very big target, right, So this coyote made
- 42:17Speaker 1: the mistake of finally coming out of that little draw
- 42:20Speaker 1: and he poked his head up over that over the rise,
- 42:23Speaker 1: and I was able to shoot him at the base
- 42:25Speaker 1: of the year, right at a hundred yards. That never
- 42:28Speaker 1: would have happened twenty years ago, fifteen years ago, no way.
- 42:32Speaker 1: It was a strong demonstration of your process. So, uh,
- 42:36Speaker 1: you know that was just it's with firearms as well,
- 42:39Speaker 1: because when I got my crossers on that thing's head,
- 42:42Speaker 1: everything in my being said punch it because it's on there, right,
- 42:46Speaker 1: And because I have now a lot of experience with that,
- 42:50Speaker 1: I'm like, nope, here I go. And then I worked
- 42:54Speaker 1: myself keep press and keep pressing and keep pressing that
- 42:56Speaker 1: trigger until it went off. And you know, unfortunately for
- 42:59Speaker 1: the coyote, he stayed there long enough for me to
- 43:01Speaker 1: get through my my process. And that is what you
- 43:04Speaker 1: have to get better at, is the organization of all
- 43:08Speaker 1: the stuff up to here I go, because after here
- 43:12Speaker 1: I go is a very specific speed that you now
- 43:14Speaker 1: know right through your signature test. You now know exactly
- 43:18Speaker 1: how fast you can go. But you've got to get
- 43:21Speaker 1: better at the organization, original decision right, drawback and aime,
- 43:27Speaker 1: get it done, address the trigger. Here I go, and
- 43:30Speaker 1: then you work right. So this shot, a controlled shot,
- 43:35Speaker 1: doesn't really take any longer than a normal shot. It's
- 43:39Speaker 1: just it's very organized right now. One thing that I
- 43:44Speaker 1: that I remember you saying, and remember me thinking I
- 43:48Speaker 1: should do this, but never stuck with and actually really
- 43:52Speaker 1: truly embedded into my brain and did all the way
- 43:55Speaker 1: was literally say these words throughout the decision making process.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Why is that important? Why is it important to not
- 44:04Speaker 1: just know that you should think through these things, but
- 44:07Speaker 1: actually have specific phrases tied to each part of this
- 44:11Speaker 1: process and to go through that in your mind or
- 44:13Speaker 1: whisper them to yourself as you go through process. Why
- 44:16Speaker 1: is that important to do? And why did that help
- 44:19Speaker 1: me so much? More to that, your subconscious is constantly
- 44:22Speaker 1: working against you. It's very strong. It's your central nervous system.
- 44:26Speaker 1: It is what has kept you alive to this point
- 44:28Speaker 1: in your life. It has kept you from falling off
- 44:31Speaker 1: of cliffs and jumping off of cliffs and doing all
- 44:34Speaker 1: kinds of crazy stuff. So if you don't verbalize it right,
- 44:38Speaker 1: words are nothing more than attentional cues. And when you
- 44:42Speaker 1: speak a mantra or whatever it may be, you create
- 44:46Speaker 1: an attention bridge right between your brain and your muscles.
- 44:51Speaker 1: And so if you don't talk, you're not sending any
- 44:55Speaker 1: cars across the bridge, and the bridge breaks right because
- 44:59Speaker 1: there is no connection. And so in speaking, it's very
- 45:03Speaker 1: important to actually say things. And when you verbalize a decision,
- 45:08Speaker 1: then it really intensifies your presence. And that's what was lacking,
- 45:15Speaker 1: right If you just think you know you should do it,
- 45:17Speaker 1: but you don't, the subconscious is going to override that
- 45:21Speaker 1: every single time. So I mean literally, you are doing
- 45:24Speaker 1: the conscious overright of your central nervous system. And unless,
- 45:27Speaker 1: and that only comes from conscious decisions, like thinking about
- 45:31Speaker 1: jumping off a cliff into water. You got your toesies
- 45:33Speaker 1: hanging over the edge, You're not gonna jump. If you're
- 45:37Speaker 1: thinking about the future, like I don't know if that
- 45:39Speaker 1: water is deep enough, You'll never jump at that point.
- 45:42Speaker 1: It's not until you bring yourself in and go here
- 45:46Speaker 1: I go then and only then can you do a
- 45:48Speaker 1: movement that will cause cause your body impact. You know,
- 45:52Speaker 1: another kind of analogy for what I feel like a
- 45:55Speaker 1: few of these decisions inflection points was like for me
- 46:01Speaker 1: was speed bumps one thing. But another I think way
- 46:03Speaker 1: to describe would be like a splash of water in
- 46:06Speaker 1: the face. Like when when I had to now say,
- 46:09Speaker 1: at the beginning, when I was gonna shoot what I said,
- 46:12Speaker 1: I stood up to a step up to the line
- 46:14Speaker 1: and said, all right, no matter what, and that was
- 46:16Speaker 1: this splash of water in my face, saying, wake up,
- 46:20Speaker 1: you are in control. This is gonna go your way.
- 46:22Speaker 1: This is not going to be the auto the autopilot
- 46:24Speaker 1: that happens on every other shot you've taken the past.
- 46:27Speaker 1: So you get that first splash of water, and you're
- 46:29Speaker 1: going through that, you're minding yourself. And then we get
- 46:31Speaker 1: to that next one, that next big one, the critical second,
- 46:33Speaker 1: and this is where I'm here. I go, sid I've
- 46:36Speaker 1: gotten very good at I can put that pin on
- 46:38Speaker 1: and just let it float and just let it be there.
- 46:40Speaker 1: I felt comfortable with that, but then it's now that
- 46:43Speaker 1: next point, and here's the next splash of water in
- 46:45Speaker 1: the face. Here you go, and you're in control of
- 46:48Speaker 1: this next move, and that it seems so easy when
- 46:54Speaker 1: you say it, like just won't you're talking about it,
- 46:57Speaker 1: But it's so much harder in the moment when, like
- 46:58Speaker 1: you've said, your subconscious mind wants to do this other
- 47:01Speaker 1: thing like splash of water like shakes you out of it. Right,
- 47:04Speaker 1: Like you said that when we were shooting down at
- 47:06Speaker 1: the range there, you said that you could still hear
- 47:10Speaker 1: that voice, like like sending the grandstand a hundred yards away.
- 47:16Speaker 1: I definitely had those periods where I would I could,
- 47:20Speaker 1: I could hear like almost physically have this like other
- 47:23Speaker 1: person in my ear, Like the urge was physical urge.
- 47:26Speaker 1: I wanted to go back and do that same thing.
- 47:29Speaker 1: But one of the things you had told me to do,
- 47:31Speaker 1: which has helped. And I still I am not getting
- 47:33Speaker 1: it perfect all the time throughout the day, but I
- 47:36Speaker 1: but I kept trying to pull myself back because you
- 47:38Speaker 1: would say, use that here I go or here you
- 47:41Speaker 1: go phrase to like sweep sweep back the recept But
- 47:45Speaker 1: so when when I felt like, I gosh, they're whispered
- 47:47Speaker 1: to me or they're yelling at me from the back,
- 47:49Speaker 1: I nope, alright, reset, al right, here we go and
- 47:53Speaker 1: then you're back at it, and then it brings you
- 47:54Speaker 1: to that resept, back to square one, and then back
- 47:57Speaker 1: into that next move where you said you have to
- 48:00Speaker 1: shout out the you gotta shout out the hecklers. So
- 48:03Speaker 1: the hecklers are making noise. I've got this part of
- 48:05Speaker 1: me that wants to go, go, go, go go. And
- 48:08Speaker 1: you said you need to talk to yourself louder than
- 48:10Speaker 1: the hecklers. And you know, we talked through using the word,
- 48:13Speaker 1: you know, just keep pulling, keep pulling, keep pulling. You
- 48:17Speaker 1: had a very specific way, and this is something I
- 48:19Speaker 1: still keep working on because I found myself naturally wanted
- 48:22Speaker 1: say pull, pull, pull, and you told me that was
- 48:25Speaker 1: not ideal to use that kind of phrase or speed.
- 48:29Speaker 1: When we have some kind of mantra for our triggering squeezing,
- 48:33Speaker 1: pulling back that final triggering sequence of the move, why
- 48:38Speaker 1: do the words and the cadence or speed matter, Like,
- 48:40Speaker 1: what's the ideal way to do that? So what you
- 48:43Speaker 1: say is what will move? Right, So if you're saying pull,
- 48:49Speaker 1: there's already a connection between that word and specific muscle
- 48:53Speaker 1: groups and motor programs. So if you squeeze, that has
- 48:57Speaker 1: to do with whole hand manipulation right there, pulling, which
- 49:01Speaker 1: you know hopefully you're doing that by opening your chest
- 49:03Speaker 1: to increase that pressure on that trigger. There's rolling right
- 49:08Speaker 1: roll on the hinge. What you say is what will move.
- 49:13Speaker 1: How you speak is how you move. So if you
- 49:17Speaker 1: get into like let's say, we're gonna use the word pull.
- 49:19Speaker 1: So for an index finger trigger, this is very handy, right,
- 49:22Speaker 1: so you re you reach deep around the trigger, get
- 49:24Speaker 1: it in the middle failing, so your finger get around that.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Other fingers are off the release. Here I go keep pulling,
- 49:33Speaker 1: keeple and keep pull and keep pulling. It's very rhythmic, right,
- 49:37Speaker 1: and it doesn't have an end to it. Or we
- 49:40Speaker 1: can stretch a word pull and you hear how it
- 49:45Speaker 1: goes up. Right. If you use the word pull as itself,
- 49:50Speaker 1: pull pull, pull, pull pull, you get incremental movement, and
- 49:55Speaker 1: there are gaps in between the polls, and your subconscious
- 49:59Speaker 1: is always looking for gap. It's always looking for blank
- 50:02Speaker 1: spaces in your shot, because it will fill the blank
- 50:05Speaker 1: spaces with automatic movements because that's what it wants to do.
- 50:09Speaker 1: It's it's ultimate goal is to brace you for impact.
- 50:13Speaker 1: And that's you know, like the core problem shooting. Your
- 50:16Speaker 1: subconscious mind will not allow you to cause your body
- 50:18Speaker 1: impact as a surprise. It's just not how we're wired. Man.
- 50:23Speaker 1: So what you say is what will move. How you
- 50:26Speaker 1: speak is how you will move. So your movement. If
- 50:31Speaker 1: you need to fix a movement, you first have to
- 50:33Speaker 1: fix your speech pattern. Right Like if I was ever
- 50:36Speaker 1: tell you slow down, Mark, But I don't tell you
- 50:39Speaker 1: how to do that. What are you gonna do? First
- 50:42Speaker 1: thing you have to do is you have to speak slower.
- 50:44Speaker 1: I have to slow your rhythm down of your speech
- 50:47Speaker 1: because they are linked. Your speech and your movement are linked.
- 50:52Speaker 1: So so I now knew what I was supposed to do, right,
- 50:57Speaker 1: I know, I've got a series of decisions in a
- 50:59Speaker 1: series of phrase is is that have to be inserted
- 51:01Speaker 1: into my shot process. So I stepped to the line
- 51:05Speaker 1: and get ready, sorry, no matter what, and I started
- 51:09Speaker 1: drawing back. I'm going to do this, right, That's what
- 51:11Speaker 1: I would say. I anchored and dropped the pin on there.
- 51:14Speaker 1: Now it's just floating, and I just let that float.
- 51:17Speaker 1: And then when I was ready, I'd say, all right,
- 51:20Speaker 1: here we go, and at that point, keep pulling, keep pulling,
- 51:23Speaker 1: keep pulling, and breaks. That was what I knew I
- 51:27Speaker 1: had to do. We talked it through. I cognitively knew it.
- 51:31Speaker 1: How how can you describe to me what we did
- 51:35Speaker 1: to help shift that from just a cognitive understanding to
- 51:38Speaker 1: then it being a physical thing I was doing and
- 51:41Speaker 1: actually implementing this. You know, what do we do physically?
- 51:46Speaker 1: When you took me out behind your house and walked
- 51:48Speaker 1: through that, what were the things you were looking for?
- 51:49Speaker 1: What were the things that you know you saw me
- 51:52Speaker 1: doing wrong or right? Um? Because it's one thing to
- 51:55Speaker 1: hear this stuff and say okay, I have to do
- 51:56Speaker 1: that and that. It's a different thing to actually put
- 51:58Speaker 1: it in action. It only took you a few times
- 52:01Speaker 1: to write your signature perfectly, so I know from that
- 52:05Speaker 1: you're a good decision maker. So it was from the
- 52:08Speaker 1: first shot you didn't punch the trigger. I haven't seen
- 52:12Speaker 1: you punch the trigger since or or lesson, right, so,
- 52:17Speaker 1: and I don't expect to. As long as you decide
- 52:21Speaker 1: to control it, you will control it now. So I
- 52:24Speaker 1: saw it in the first shot where after the after
- 52:27Speaker 1: our our talk, you hooked into that trigger. You started
- 52:32Speaker 1: pulling and you even verbalized your you verbalize them out loud, right,
- 52:36Speaker 1: and then I made you stop talking out loud, because
- 52:39Speaker 1: that's not what you're gonna do when there's a big
- 52:41Speaker 1: buck there, right. And Plus, when you speak out loud,
- 52:45Speaker 1: you're using air, you're dispelling air, so you'll run out
- 52:49Speaker 1: of air much more quickly in your shot. That's why
- 52:51Speaker 1: this has to be an internal dialogue, and so you
- 52:54Speaker 1: have to get good at speaking inside your head. And
- 52:57Speaker 1: so the application of it was completely on you, right,
- 53:00Speaker 1: And if I have, like if you wouldn't make the
- 53:03Speaker 1: decision to do it, like if you kept punching the trigger,
- 53:07Speaker 1: I would then put you on attention activated release, and
- 53:10Speaker 1: it's probably not going to go off. I'd screw that
- 53:12Speaker 1: sucker down to where it wouldn't go off. I'd hand
- 53:14Speaker 1: it to you, and you already know how to work
- 53:16Speaker 1: that type of a trigger, so it wouldn't have to
- 53:18Speaker 1: explain it to you. But you'd push that safety and
- 53:20Speaker 1: you draw back and you let the safety off, and
- 53:23Speaker 1: you'd start pulling it, and I would see the exact
- 53:25Speaker 1: moment where you go open loop, and i'd see a
- 53:28Speaker 1: big old huck and chuck there, right. It would be
- 53:31Speaker 1: It's fairly dramatic when it happens. And then we would
- 53:34Speaker 1: I would have you blueprint that. What were you thinking
- 53:37Speaker 1: about after here I go? And you would say, well,
- 53:39Speaker 1: I was thinking about when this happens a lot with folks. Well,
- 53:42Speaker 1: I was thinking about pulling, But then I thought, man,
- 53:44Speaker 1: when is this thing going to go on? And that
- 53:46Speaker 1: is the moment that the autopilot comes in and just
- 53:49Speaker 1: trashes the party. Right. Do you think that even though
- 53:53Speaker 1: the silver back going to attention wasn't my ultimate final fix,
- 53:57Speaker 1: do you think the fact that I spent so much
- 53:58Speaker 1: time on that has repaired me because it has made
- 54:01Speaker 1: me better at making this shift because I had that
- 54:03Speaker 1: kind of stop gap transition phase. It made you better
- 54:06Speaker 1: only because it got you to let go of the aim.
- 54:11Speaker 1: And that's what that taught you. It got you to
- 54:13Speaker 1: let go of the aim, which was obviously a very
- 54:15Speaker 1: positive thing. But if I would have if you would
- 54:18Speaker 1: have gone back to an index finger trigger without this instruction,
- 54:22Speaker 1: you would eventually start punching the crap out of that thing.
- 54:25Speaker 1: It happens to every single person unless you decide not
- 54:29Speaker 1: to and knowing what decisions you're gonna make, when you're
- 54:33Speaker 1: gonna make them, and how to carry him out. That's
- 54:35Speaker 1: what you learned today. And that's how we removed the mystery.
- 54:39Speaker 1: So then so then keep keep keep walking me through
- 54:42Speaker 1: some of the things we're doing there in person. Then
- 54:44Speaker 1: so how do we start practicing this in a way
- 54:47Speaker 1: that both put some pressure into the system to test
- 54:52Speaker 1: like things steaks can can you walk me through a
- 54:54Speaker 1: few of those things? So the first thing you're watching,
- 54:56Speaker 1: The first thing I did is I took one of
- 54:58Speaker 1: your arrows and I started slapping you in the stomach
- 55:01Speaker 1: with it right where you're a full draw. And then
- 55:03Speaker 1: I started hitting at the brim of your hat and
- 55:06Speaker 1: causing you two it's pretty intense blinking right, and you're
- 55:10Speaker 1: a rock star, right. You stayed in it. And that's
- 55:12Speaker 1: how I get you reps in bringing your mind back
- 55:17Speaker 1: to where it needs to be. Because I will cause
- 55:19Speaker 1: a distraction and your mind, your conscious mind will go
- 55:22Speaker 1: to the distraction, your release movement will instantly stop, and
- 55:26Speaker 1: then they keep going with it. Maybe it's slapping your
- 55:30Speaker 1: head like with with Beaumar, it was it was pouring
- 55:32Speaker 1: water over his head, right, a bigallon bucket of water
- 55:35Speaker 1: while he's a full draw. And so anything that I
- 55:40Speaker 1: did to you after our lesson made you stronger because
- 55:45Speaker 1: your little f you turner factor went went up, right,
- 55:48Speaker 1: your watch, this factor went up, so you've you've felt
- 55:51Speaker 1: the distraction and then you're like, nope, I don't care
- 55:55Speaker 1: what he's doing and hopefully I'm I'm thinking that you
- 55:59Speaker 1: talked than the stress that was coming in. Yeah, I
- 56:02Speaker 1: felt like that was one of the most powerful things.
- 56:04Speaker 1: Like I almost wish that I could have someone with
- 56:06Speaker 1: me all the time just trying to tap me on
- 56:08Speaker 1: the head and do that kind of stuff, because that
- 56:10Speaker 1: really really forced me into it, and like you said,
- 56:13Speaker 1: it made my my inside voice have to scream louder,
- 56:16Speaker 1: and that that struggle to get that control made it
- 56:20Speaker 1: stronger for the rest of the time. And that's you know,
- 56:22Speaker 1: that is the skill. The skill is not hitting the target.
- 56:26Speaker 1: The skill is putting your mind where it needs to be.
- 56:29Speaker 1: And that's why you do these drills like standing on
- 56:31Speaker 1: one foot and shooting as we talked to talk about
- 56:33Speaker 1: that one because that was crazy. Yeah, So I had
- 56:36Speaker 1: you draw back and aim and then lift that foot up.
- 56:40Speaker 1: So now your mind is going from the aim which
- 56:43Speaker 1: is now huge, the range of your pin is now huge, right,
- 56:47Speaker 1: and then it goes to balance and then you got
- 56:50Speaker 1: to snatch it away from that and put it back
- 56:51Speaker 1: into your movement, and then it leaves that movement because
- 56:54Speaker 1: it goes back into the aim, and then it goes
- 56:56Speaker 1: into balance and then you snatch it back right. So
- 57:00Speaker 1: you get massive reps in bringing your mind back when
- 57:03Speaker 1: you stand on one foot and shoot. It was incredible drill. Yeah,
- 57:06Speaker 1: it's awesome. We've done that with some some pretty high
- 57:09Speaker 1: level folks and I can't believe I actually I didn't
- 57:13Speaker 1: do too bad. Thought I was gonna I was gonna
- 57:15Speaker 1: be god awful. Fifty shots, like fifty yards and you
- 57:18Speaker 1: put them on the tin ring of that cariboo target.
- 57:20Speaker 1: Ye old me shooting fifty yards with both feet plane.
- 57:23Speaker 1: It would have been like, well this, hopefully it'll go okay.
- 57:26Speaker 1: But on one ft, you know, and old you with
- 57:30Speaker 1: an index finger trigger, old you would have punched the
- 57:32Speaker 1: trigger when your pin was on, and there's no way
- 57:35Speaker 1: that it would have went where you thought it was
- 57:36Speaker 1: going to go. And man, those days, I can tell
- 57:40Speaker 1: you so many times four years ago where I'd be
- 57:47Speaker 1: lining up to go shoot at a camp with a
- 57:49Speaker 1: bunch of people, or I'd be going back behind the
- 57:51Speaker 1: house with a bunch of friends and we'd be shooting
- 57:53Speaker 1: and I'd have this like tight chest feeling like oh gosh,
- 57:57Speaker 1: and then yeah, like it just it wasn't even fun
- 58:00Speaker 1: anymore because I just was nervous. You're gonna pull one eye,
- 58:02Speaker 1: You're gonna screw this up. And yeah, as soon as
- 58:04Speaker 1: that pain would get on the target, Pam, there it goes,
- 58:07Speaker 1: and plenty of them would go fine, but then you
- 58:09Speaker 1: have plenty that would go off, and the whole time
- 58:11Speaker 1: you've got this underlying anxiety. And this is this has
- 58:17Speaker 1: been like a The last couple of years have been
- 58:20Speaker 1: better forcing myself to have a mechanical slowdown and now
- 58:23Speaker 1: here today. I mean, I did so much better than
- 58:29Speaker 1: I thought would be possible, given that these these relatively
- 58:33Speaker 1: simple steps to take back control. Um, it's very specific
- 58:38Speaker 1: and like I always say, it's literally life changing because
- 58:42Speaker 1: mankind has been looking for the answers to these questions
- 58:46Speaker 1: for you know, centuries, literally, and and that that may
- 58:50Speaker 1: be an arrogant statement, but I read everything there was
- 58:54Speaker 1: to read about target panic. I watched every video that's
- 58:56Speaker 1: ever been put out about Target, as most people have.
- 58:59Speaker 1: Because we're looking for a solution that works for us.
- 59:04Speaker 1: We're looking for instruction. Oh, I hope that works for us.
- 59:09Speaker 1: And the first thing I will tell you is there
- 59:11Speaker 1: is no instruction in shooting that works for you, because
- 59:15Speaker 1: your central nervous system says, nay, right, it's not gonna
- 59:20Speaker 1: There is no such thing as instruction that works for you.
- 59:23Speaker 1: There is a release that you can evaluate better than
- 59:27Speaker 1: another release, but it doesn't work any better for you.
- 59:30Speaker 1: It's just a hunk of metal. It doesn't make any
- 59:32Speaker 1: decisions for you. Right, So these true skills of decision making.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Finding your determination is first. I can't teach you that.
- 59:41Speaker 1: I can help you find it right through ridicule or
- 59:44Speaker 1: maybe physical exertion, where I always tell people, you're gonna
- 59:47Speaker 1: have to hate me a little bit, right, It's got
- 59:50Speaker 1: to be temporary, but you're gonna have to hate me
- 59:52Speaker 1: a little bit so that you go no, turner, I
- 59:56Speaker 1: ain't going out like that, watch this, right. So finding
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: that determination first and then turning that determination into conscious decisions.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: The decisions increase your presence. Once you are present enough,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: then and only then can you concentrate. And learning how
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: to concentrate in all those things. Those are the true
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: skills that we've been looking for, and it is very
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: powerful stuff. I love teaching this stuff, man. So so
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: we did the balancing on one foot drill. We did
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: the you being there with me hitting me on the
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: head and poking me and prodding me and yelling at
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: me and saying stuff like that. That was one thing.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: What are some you mentioned a handful of other drills
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: that I could try at home on my own. Um,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: could you walk me through a couple other things people
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: could do if they if they are trying to do
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: this and now they want to, you know, have some
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: kind of additional challenge or higher stakes to to somewhat
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: simulate the challenge of a high intensity shot moment. So
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: one of the things that I do, and I learned
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: this from Dan's stating it elk shape, was this stress
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: shooting test where I will just go out and stick
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: three arrows in the ground, usually ones around forty, ones
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: around at twenty let's say, and you know, make it
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: whatever you want, I don't care. And you start at
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: the first arrow, bow in hand, and you run to
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: a designated place like I have a fence. That's the
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: total runs about maybe a hundred and twenty yards, I guess.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: So I'll sprint to the fence. I'll sprint back to
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: that first arrow. Now I'm breathing a little hard. So
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: now I've got to gather myself up and make this
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: forty or fifty yard shot with my stickbow. So you know,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: your chest is heaven a little bit. You're not totally
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: gas at this point, depending on your physical fitness level.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: And then uh so you shoot that shot right, and
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: then you take off and you run to the fence again.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Then you run to the next arrow, and the next
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: arrow you have to do thirty air squads. So you
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: do thirty air squads. Now your legs are burning a
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: bit and you're huffing and puffing a bit more. So
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: we have to learn to shoot on a breath, because
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: if we're breathing during our shooting, we're gonna have way
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: too much site movement. It's gonna draw your conscious mind.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: So now you've got to just kind of suck it
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: up and you just stop that one breath and you
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: shoot that shot. Now you run back to the fence,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: you run back up to that third arrow, and now
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: you do thirty lunges. Right. Um, so you do thirty
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: lunges and then you shoot that arrow. So it's just
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: it's getting a simulation of the fact that you can
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: never take the same body with you to the line, right,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: You don't have control over the physiological changes that happened
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: to you. When you go, oh my god, this is
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: gonna happen, right, And so that's when you get that
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: microburst of adrenaline. All these things happen, and that's when
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: we have to remain cognitive. And so you know, depending
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: on what you want to do for physical fitness, that's
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: a drill that I try to do, you know, at
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: least twice a week. And it doesn't you know, I'm
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: to the point now where I seek stress so much
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: that it doesn't you know, that doesn't really do I
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: do it just more to stay in shape. Right. Uh.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: You can have your kids wrap themselves around your legs, right,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: you can, right, I mean, have them if you give
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: them permission to mess with you, they're gonna mess with you, right,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: and you've got to use it to make you stronger.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Have them push on your on your waist so it
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: moves your body in big movements. And then like wind, right,
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: go and shoot in the wind. Learn how to hold
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: off in the wind. Learn what a new a new
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: center looks like, meaning you know, if you've got a
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: massive wind coming ninety degrees, you're the middle of the
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: target is not your ex anymore. You may have to
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: hold in the nine ring on a centi in your face,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: or you may have to hold back a little bit
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: in the guts. You may have to hold up on
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: the shoulder of that deer. Now that's your new center.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: Once you pick your site picture, that's your site picture.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: It's always gonna dance back to that X. Right, So
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: any of these things we can do, Like we went
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: and shot extreme ranges. I mean, I watched you dump
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: one dead center at seventy seven yards today, Right, you
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: learned about pin stacking today and how to actually do it,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: and how to account for bigger gaps at longer ranges
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: and these things. So you learned all kinds of things.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: But it was the main thing is it's just another aim.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: You know a lot of people tell me, man, I'm
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: good at about fifteen and stickbow A lot of times.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: I'm really good out to fifteen, but man, you get
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: me to sixteen twenty yards, I'm a mess. Like why
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: is that? It's no different in the shot. It's just
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: a different aim, right, And the closer especially for traditional archers,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: the closer their point gets to the target their point
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: on distance, the more anxiety because now they know there's
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: no question that they're on or they're not right. So
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: now they see that they're locked off the target, it
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: just it's a downward spiral. It's a nightmare. And it's
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: the same thing in the comp found with people they
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: are locked off target there. Yeah, and going to these
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: longer ranges. I remember old me, I knew I should
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: shoot longer range to practice at that, and I knew
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: that if you practice more longer ranges, it will make
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: the shorter ranges easier. Um, so I did some of that.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: You know, I couldn't stretch out this far, but I
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: would shoot, you know, sixty you know, I think I
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: had a little corner I could shoot maybe sixty five,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: and so I would do that. But I certainly remember
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: being stressed about, you know, losing arrows and if that
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: if that pin was waving off of it all. I
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: always remember think, gosh, I'm moving so much and you know,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: still in that trigger punching phase, you know. So that
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: was just like anxiety inducing and there's no way I
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: could trust that even if my pins going here and
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: there they could possibly find center. But you know, I've
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: slowly been getting better letting it float, and then today
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: doing what we did going through this process. Now we're
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: stretching out seventy seven yards, ninety yards, a hundred yards.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: I've never ever shot those far that far before, and
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: and just trusting that I I had no anxiety about
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: letting float anymore, about letting it I mean big movements,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: and I was just in, you know, just that for
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: that process, and I just got it generally on there
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: and then just focused on making the you know, going
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: through that movement, and then somehow, by magic, these things
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: generally zero into the right right spot. It's it's it's wild.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: It really you cannot consciously aim better than you can
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: subconsciously aim. I mean you could. A drill you can
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: do is just you know, grab a pen, put it up,
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: put it on something on the wall, holding a full
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: extension with the writing tip up, and watch it dance
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: right no matter which way it moves. This next movement
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: is back to the center. But for some personalities that's
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: very difficult to let go of. Right. If you get
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: a very analytical mind that likes to control things, they
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: have trouble letting that go. And literally, my job as
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: the instructor is to get you to the realization that
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: you don't have control over it, no matter how much
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: you want to concentrate on it or what. And if
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: you put concentration in it, you're going open loop on
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: the trigger. That's not my opinion, that's just how we're wired.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: So you mentioned all these drills. One drill that you
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: didn't mention that gets brought up a whole lot when
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: people talk about target panic issues is blind bailing shooting
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: into a bail. Yeah, why don't you recommend that so much?
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: It's not that I don't recommend it. I just I
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: know it's factual that there is no transfer of that
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: physical feeling from that shot to an actual aimed shot.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: So people will draw back on a blank bail and
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: because they're not aiming at anything, or maybe they have
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: their eyes closed, the timing mechanism for your pre ignition
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: movements is now shut off. So therefore you are much
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: more free to concentrate on certain aspects of your shot.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Like you'll find it's much easier to pull through a
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: shot when you have your eyes closed because you completely
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: shut off the subconscious that's screaming at you to let
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: it go when the pin is on. So but if
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: we took a blank bail shot and you blueprinted it
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: like you do with your aim shot. If you drew
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: back an aim on a blank bail and you ran perfection,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: I mean, everything is perfect and you feel in that
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: movement everything is going right, and pah, the shot breaks
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: as a surprise, and then you blueprint that. What am
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: I thinking after here I go? What am I saying
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: after here I go? Could I have stopped it? What
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: decisions did I make? Right? You can see how that
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: gets very mundane. But people will go, man, my instructor
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: told me to do six months of blank bailce so
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: I shot whatever ten thousand arrows blank bail and then
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: go to a tournament and it all goes down the tube, right,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: because now you have a pin on the target that's
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: screaming at you to let it go. And if you
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: never practice the conscious override, it's gonna completely destroy you.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: So you wasted six months of your life on a
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: blank bail when you didn't need to. So you know,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: your blank bail shot should feel exactly like your or
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: your aim shot should feel exactly like your blank bail shot.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Now you just add the aim to it, because now
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: the aim means nothing to you. Just get it done
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: and watch it to keep it. And that's how you
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: can transfer some of that. But I don't recommend people
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: do blank bailing to fix target panic. That it has
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: nothing to do with target panic. So you're not going
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: to fix it that way, even though you know instructors
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: in the last few decades have recommended that that's completely
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: been debunked. So why why is it that we keep
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: hearing people tell us that we need to make stuff
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: the muscle memory? How can people keep on saying we's
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: got to make it? What led us to this point
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: where everyone has been talking about doing this in such
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: a contrary way to what seems to actually work. I mean,
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: growing up I had I had no real instruction. My
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: dad and I kind of learned together. Um, but then
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: whenever you did hear someone talking about it, so many
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: folks you just got to make it automatic. He's want
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: we must practice so much that you don't even need
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: to think about it, That that's this thing. You want
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: to do it so much and so often you don't
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: even need to think about it. How do we get
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: to this place? Well, when you think about that instruction,
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: you know when the person that gave that instruction, if
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: they would have actually analyzed how they control their shot,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: you would notice a few things. Right. Number one, you
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: would notice that they talk during their shot. That has
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: been a pattern of success throughout the decades. All the people,
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: the successful snipers, rifle hunters, bow hunters, successful shooters in
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: high stress events, they all say something to themselves during
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: their shot, every one of them to a person. They
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: all say different stuff, but they all say something. And
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: so the person that gave that instruction so many years ago,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: they were probably a really good shooter, but they did
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: not understand how they did what they did so and
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: they never really analyzed it because maybe they're a natural
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: born decision maker. And that's where the kicker was because
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: people thought they were natural born shooters. And I want
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: to be like this person, right, so what do you do?
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: You don't ask them what do you think about when
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: you shoot? You asked them what boat do you shoot?
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: What release do you shoot? What errors do you shoot? Right?
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: I mean you very few people are going to walk
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: up to Levi Morgan and say, Mr Morgan, what's going
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: through your head at full draw, right, And the answers
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: that you will get when you talk to a lot
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: of pros is they really don't know how they do
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: what they do. And that's that's the beauty of shot
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: I Q because I came from a horrible place in shooting, right,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: so I built this from ground zero. There was I
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: was not a good shot growing up. I was horrible
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: locked five feet off of a target right, shooting over
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: the back of so many elk could make your head spin.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: But you know, figuring out and going through the trenches
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: on this stuff and really figuring out that's that's what
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: makes me a good instructor because I know what you're
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: going through. I've been there, right. And you may talk
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: to an Olympic level coach and they never get to
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: deal with people that are in extreme target panic because
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: if you had extreme target panic, you never reached the
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Olympic level coach. Right. And Plus with those coaches you're
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: dealing with if they're shooting a recurve, they're shooting a
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: mechanical receptive trigger, right, they're shooting a clicker. So, uh,
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: there's this. It was always a mystery and they always thought,
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: think it's form base. Well, you can fix target panic
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: with form. Well, there are things you can do with
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: form to give yourself a better holding position that makes
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: it not so strenuous on the body, therefore more calm. Therefore,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: now we are free to think about some other things. So, yeah,
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: there are certain form aspects that can help, but I
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: would much rather gain control of the shot, complete mental
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: control the shot first, and then I plug form aspects
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: into that controlled shot, and that's how we get body turners, right, yeah, yeah,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: geez the prodigy. Um yeah, so so okay, we we
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: You talked about how form is of course important, but
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: if you don't have the process, it's not going to
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: get you everything. We talked a little bit about releases
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: and why you know, having attention released like I was
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: using was helpful in a way, but you don't want
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: me to be stuck there. So for somebody else who's
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: in a similar place, who's had target panic issues, and
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: who's now trying to now develop a closed loop process
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: and do these things, can you talk a little bit
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: about the types of releases that might be good for
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: this this new world I'm living in now, what your
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: recommendations would be, or what we should or should not
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: look into. Yeah, so when you now that you know
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: about closed loopwork and how to evaluate a movement, what
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: you're looking for in a release is one that you
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: can set the spring tension. Now, this is key because
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: there's a lot of releases out there that don't have
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: any spring in them. So the only thing you can
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: adjust is travel, and that's not necessarily the best thing. Right,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: you want to be able to adjust spring tension so
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: that you can climb into it. Can you define these
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: two things for someone who maybe doesn't know how What
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: does travel and spring tension do in the release itself? Right? So,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: travel is how much seer engagement there is, so how
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: much the trigger has to move before it can go off.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: And there are certain sear systems out there, which is
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: the internal parts too hard services that are pulled apart
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: until there's no more purchase. So there are certain SEO
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: systems out there and releases that have been around for
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: a long time and they're very robust, but they're very
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: difficult to evaluate because the travel is so far on
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: in your mind's like, oh it's about to go off,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Oh my god, I felt that, right. Most people never
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: feel to travel in their release because they go open
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: loop on it, right. But when you're truly able to
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: go close loop, then you understand that you want a
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: release that you can set harder spring tension so you
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: can climb in with no anxiety that's going to go off.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: So you can set a very hard initial pressure and
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: then you make that decision. Here I go. And then
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: when you're moving, you have to remember that the initial
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: movement on the triggers not to make it go off.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: It's just to set the speed limit. Right, So we
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: start into that movement very slowly. We're pressing on the
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: gas nice and easy. We're seeing the speedometer come up,
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: and then when we get to the speed that we want,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: we hit that cruise control button and then you just
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: stay in that speed until it goes off. And so
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: getting a release that you can put enough pressure on
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: to do that and the movement is long enough that
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: you can evaluate it right, so be that in the
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: next finger trigger a thumb button a hinge. There's there's
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: lots of good releases on the market today, but that's
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: what you're looking for. When you learn how to go
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: closed loop, you're gonna really feel like if you've got
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: a fairly cheap release, you're gonna feel the trigger system
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: in it. Yeah, so SOCA. So probably the first for
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: ten years of shooting a bow and bow hunting again
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: with with zero zero expert you know, opinions are input
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: on this. I was probably shooting like the forty five
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: dollar Hurricane or whatever, something that you know, you pull
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: the trigger down and opens up the springs, back clothes
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: and those kinds of things. Probably a lot of new
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: bow hunters start with something like that. So can you
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: tell me what what you get when you try to
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: do what we're talking about, But you're using that. So
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: when people bring those to my clinic, it's a beautiful
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: thing because it's the hardest work that your mind is
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: gonna do. Right. So when when I put you in
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: that index finger trigger, that's a good quality one that
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: has no travel, right, you can't feel any travel in that,
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: and you can set your finger on it. Really hard
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: when somebody has to work through all that nastiness and travel, right,
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: and they're hearing the release ping and ding and and
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: you can feel the birds in the sea and all
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: the right super squishy nastiness, that's the best release they
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: could bring. Yeah, because if you can work yourself through that.
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: You can work yourself through anything, bro right. So I
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: have them they're like, well, this is my release they
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: brought like perfect, right, and then once they gain control
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: that nasty thing, then I let them experience what a
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: good release feels like. And then then the world is there.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: So is that actually something you would recommend, like for
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: someone who's who who knows they have this problem and
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: they have to they want to tear down and start
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: back up? Should they? If they don't need to have
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: one of those credit ones? Start this with one, try
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: to figure it out. You could. Um, I don't necessarily
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: recommend it, but if if you do bring one of those,
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: if you bring one to a shot i Q clinic,
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: you're not going to be looked down upon. You're gonna
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: be gone. Yep, this will help. Let's see if you
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: can do this one tough guy? Right? So so okay,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: So then still on the releases, and you look at
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: all the different things you can spend money on with
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: them all there's a lot of different accessories and pieces
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: of gear and the bow itself and there's there's all
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: these different variables. If I'm relatively new and I'm trying
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: to pick and choose what I spend my money on.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Is the release one of the things that should spend
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: the extra money on to get one of those higher dollar,
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: better quality pieces, for sure, absolutely, And again you're looking
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: for that. You know, you're looking for a trigger you
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: can set spring tension in and you can set travel
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: and you know there'll be certain places that you can
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: look for those screws and if they have that adjustment,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: and hopefully the bow shop will allow you to try.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: I'm just on a string bow or whatever, but you
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: should be able to wrap your finger around that thing
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: or wrap your thumb around it, and work that thing
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: slow en if you could stop it, and you should
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: not feel any travel right, and it also shouldn't be
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: so light that you're just trying to be dainty with it.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: You want to kind of handle these things right and
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: wrap your finger around it deep, put it in between
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: those first food knuckles that you got there, and then
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: work and see if you can evaluate that movement. Okay,
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: So for this person, we've asked them to spend an
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: extra I don't know, extra hundred bucks or something on
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: the release. Is there anything on your bow system that
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: you could say, hey, it's would be okay to buy
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: a hundred dollar cheaper of this, or a little bit
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: cheaper than. I mean, this is kind of off topic,
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: but I'm curious if you were going to sacrifice somewhere
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: and buy more entry level something. Is there anything that
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: comes to mind that you'd be willing to sacrifice on. Uh?
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: If I had to sacrifice, who would be in the
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: site system? You know? I mean what you're really looking
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: for in the cheaper sites, You're gonna deal with durability
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: and what the housing is made out of. But it
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: still has the pins, the basic function. Yeah, it still
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: has the basic function of a bow site. So when
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: you get into more hired dollar, you get into more
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: screws and third access and the second access and all
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: this stuff, and which is all very good. But if
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: you know, once you gain control of your release, then
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: the world is yours. The world is not yours if
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: you just buy a better boast, right, you know, speaking
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: of like third access and all these different things. We
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: shot a ton today, I mean, more than I've shot
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: in one day, probably my entire life. Okay, Um, I've
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: never done a full day like this. Um. Took a
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: lot of shots, and not once did you tell me
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: to change something with how I was canting my bow,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: or was I leveling my bow, or was I pulling
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: my arm just right, or was I there was a
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: little bit of grip feedback, but other than that, almost
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: zero discussion around those types of things. But just by
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: implementing this process, shooting pretty darn good and not once
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: did I worry about any of these other things. Is
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: that because so much of our success as archers is
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: because of this one simple thing, which is getting control.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Or is it because I already had those kind of
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: basics figured out and I was doing most of that
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: stuff good enough. Well, your form, your form is not bad.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: There was a couple of times today when I saw
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: you your bow is canad a bit right and your
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: bubble level is not in the middle, But that was
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: not my concern today. My concern was you doing your job,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: and your job was to move the trigger slow enough
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: you could stop it. And once you do that again,
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: once you gain control, the world is yours. Now you
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: adjust your third access on your site, because you can't
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: even zero your bow until you gain control of your release,
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: because otherwise you're zeroing it to which trigger punch, You're
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: zering it to pre ignition movements, and you don't know
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: which one is coming, right, So are you gonna grab
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: the bow this time? You're gonna collapse a little bit.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: Who knows your mind just has a roller dex, and
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: I think we'll throw this one in this time. Right.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: But now with control and closed loop movement on that trigger,
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: now there are no pre ignition movements. Now we can
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: really zero our bow. And now we can figure out
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: your bubble and your access is and all these things right,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: and we can figure out your grip again. When you
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: gain control, you then plug in other form aspects or
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: mechanical aspects, different site, different arrow rest, whatever it may be,
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: because now you can start to shoot the difference out
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: of things, whereas before, no matter how good your form was,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: it's blown apart by a pre ignition movement, whether you
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: like it or not. So we we took another step.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: We we spend a bunch of time here in the
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: back to shooting you and you and me, And then
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: it was all right, we're gonna go to a range
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: and we're gonna shoot a competitive course with another friend
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: of yours. That's another thing I've never done. Um, walk
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: me through why that kind of thing isn't is an
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: important kind of stress test, I guess for this, and
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: I don't know if that was on purpose, but it's
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: served like serve something because again I told you earlier,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: I'd had problems, you know, shooting, you know, pressure situations,
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: right and reverting, and so now all of a sudden
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: I was shooting in front more people I didn't know
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: in the setting I wasn't you know, comfortable with, hadn't
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: done before. And then also there was a little bit,
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: right we're keeping score and all these different things and everything.
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: So how does that how does that kind of how
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: does that fire sharpened? Iron? Right? So it's all concentration practice.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: You introduce people that you don't know, right, you instantly
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: want to impress them. And you saw how Kyle and
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: I were going back and forth just rasing the hell
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: out of each other. Right, We do that for purpose
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: so that you know, anything I say to him makes
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: him stronger. Did you notice that when I would raz him,
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: he would buckle down and shoot better? Right, So his
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: he has to get to a point where he can
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: manufacture that determination when I'm not there. Right, you and
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: you as well, you have to be able to manufacture determination.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: And that's it's a lost skill, I'm telling you right.
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: So now anything you have to seek that stress in
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: your training, you have to seek it, and you're gonna
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: get to a point where nothing really rases you and
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: then it's only hunting or very high stressed tournaments. Right.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: That's why I shoot Vegas. Vegas is the only tournament
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: that makes my legs shake, right, and I enjoy the
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: crap out of it because I'm gonna control my shot
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: no matter what. I mean, I shoot okay scores at Vegas.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: They're not incredible, but I'm getting through my meccount receptive
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: figure every single time, no matter what. Right, So, and
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: that's my goal there. Um, you know with with body,
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: Bodi now has one Vegas. So he he's really good
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: at using stress to make him stronger. But that's because
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: he knows how to control himself. I mean, he is
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: literally screaming inside his head. And the only advice I
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: ever give that young man is to keep it moving,
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: because I know that if he keeps his release moving,
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: his mind is in the release and it's not in
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: the aim. It's not in the thousands of people that
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: are watching him, It's not anywhere other than that movement.
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: You know, even though his pin maybe bouncing off the
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: edges of the yellow, it doesn't matter. It's always going
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: back to the middle, you know. But the person next
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: to him is worried about their pin movement and that's
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: why he will run him over like a theme roller
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: every single time. But this is becoming, This is literally
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: becoming the norm of archery now, right, This is literally
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: a revolution that it's a complete pair dime shift away
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: from conscious aiming to subconscious aiming, conscious shot activation. And
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: it's not conscious punching, it's consciously moving the trigger slow up.
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: You could stop it and exactly how to do that? Yeah,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: So what's next for me? What would you You're you're
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: marching orders for me heading into the rest of this year,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: leading into the next hunting season, right on through the
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: hunting season. What do I need to do next to
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: take that next step or to make this a permanent
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: part of me? You need to go shoot with people
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: you do not know, and you need to talk a
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: little trash, right, So, I mean, literally, hey man, what's
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: going on? Hey? Watch this right, and they're gonna look
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: down and they're gonna who in the hell is this guy?
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: You're like, no, don't look down range. Watch how slow
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: I can move this? Right, And you think about the pressure,
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: because now you have to perform. You have to go
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: hunt turkeys. You have to shoot as many groundhogs as
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: you can. Right, pretty soon, none of that stuff is
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: gonna cause you extress. Then it's dear season, right, you
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: have to If you're allowed to shoot ten does, then
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: go shoot ten does, right, and donate him to food
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: banks or whatever you need to do. But shoot as
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: many critters as you can. And then when that big
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: buck steps up, it's not gonna be autopilot. Right. It's
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: the same process. You get better and better and better
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: at it. Like in in twenty nineteen, I killed the
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: bowl of my dreams, and that thing when he came around,
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: I called him in. He came around this root wad
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: at thirty yards and his eyes were literally rolled back
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: in his head. And and I'm I'm hiding behind the
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: limb of my recurve, and he's walking at me. And
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: he stops at ten yards, sticks his antlers in the
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: ground and starts throwing mud and sticks and all kinds
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: of crap all over the place. And I finally get
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: to full draw as soon as I get the full draw.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: He flips his body perfectly broadside to me at ten
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: yards Bull of my dreams, right, and I'm looking down
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: the shaft at that arrow, and I'm looking at the
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: exact spot where my arrow is going to go, because
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: I can see exactly where my arrow is pointed. And
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: I'm looking down the shaft that arrow, and every fiber
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: of my being is saying, just let it go, right,
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: just let it go. You're gonna kill him, bull your dreams.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: You've waited fourteen years to draw this tag. Here he is.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: Just let it go. And I remember saying to myself, Nope,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: I ain't going out like that, because you see the
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: antlers that are in this room where we're standing right now.
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: These were all shot with controlled shots. All the ones
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: that are uncontrolled don't make it in the house there
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: in the bar that right, So this bull is there
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: and I'm like, nope, I ain't doing it. And that's
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: when I said, here I go, and I start pressing
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: on that grips ear and pretty soon pink that thing pops.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: I let the arrow go and it went in the
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: exact spot that I wanted to And it means so
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: much to me. It means way more to me to
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: stay in the shop process because at that time, in
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: twenty nineteen, I was still on the swat team, still
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: a sniper and all those things, right, So I use
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: all of these hunting situations for potential tactical situation right
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: where my determination has to be through the roof. So
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: it's you know, and vice versa. I used the law
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: enforcement determination, the knowledge that I can't screw that up,
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: and I use that determination well in my bow hunting.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: So it was really this dichotomy of concentration, these two
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: different schools that had to come together. Right, my archery
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: help my firearms, and my firearms help my archer. Like
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: one of the best things you could do is now
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: take that tourist forty four nuclear magnum that you have
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: right and shoot controlled shots with it. Right, that thing
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: in a hundred yards, I mean it's a hundred yard
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: gun all day long, right, If you press the trigger
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: perfectly right and get big recoil loads for it, right
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: and press that trigger slow enough, you could stop it.
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: When that nuclear magnum box your bow is gonna seem
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: really easy to imagined, right, But but shot anticipation firearms
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: is not even close to what it is an archery,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: because an archery, your body is intentioned and you are
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: the explosion, right, all that all that energy release is
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: gonna be through your body, Whereas in a firearm, the
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: recoil is generated from the gun itself, right, So it's different,
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: and your body is not intention with the firearm. You're
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: not trying to hold this thing apart. You're just trying
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: to hold the firearms, right, So it's uh. You know
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: when you say iron sharpens iron, you can certainly use
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: your archery to help your firearms, and your firearms help
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: your archery. That's that's the intention I'm gonna do it.
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: I mean, I've had the same problem with with every thing.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: And if I look back honestly on all the deer
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: and another big game I've shot over the years, um,
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: I could probably honestly tell you only one of them.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: Do I actually could? I look back and say I
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: think I had some control. I honestly think all the
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: rest was autopilot getting me good enough and enough times
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: it would work and sometimes things were great and then
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: but I have enough of those other times where it
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: didn't work out. That to what we talked about earlier,
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: I had that just enough is enough. I'm piste off.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: I can't good enough isn't good enough anymore? And I
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: cannot wait for that first time now where I really
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: it's not just well I was better. I want. I
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: want to be fully in control and after that shot
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: be like, Wow, I actually did it all and had
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: the home that'll be I'll be so I'll probably follow
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: the tree else. It means so much to be in
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: control because that's what man kind has been trying to
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: do for a long time. Bro. So when you actually
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: shoot a shot, it's a controlled shot, doesn't matter what
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: the critter is. It will mean so much to you, right,
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: it has to mean everything to you. And and people
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: say we'll turn your kind of a shot control freak. Well,
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: I want to control everything I can because I truly
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: believe that the critters deserve that. Right. I'm not going
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: to miss a critter because I collapsed or punched my
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: trigger or something like that. I'm not gonna wound a
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: critter because of that. Now, we can't control what the
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: critter does, right, they jumped the string, you hit a limb, whatever,
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: Maybe that's out of our control. But your trigger movement
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: is within your control. It is within your domain. And
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: I really truly believe that that those the animals that
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: we harvest deserve that. Yeah, and that's that's why I'm here.
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: I mean, I was just Yeah, you flew a long
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: ways to get here, body, and I'll tell you this. UM,
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: I found I I you know, as I discussed we
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: talked before in the podcast number of years ago, I
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: listened to some other things and I learned a lot
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: and I took value out of that. UM. But taking
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: this next step, you know, being here with you in person,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: and I imagine if I would have gone through the
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: digital course or gone to a clinic or something like that,
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: I do think that that extra depth and UM, I
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: don't know it. It took this form for me at
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: least to really get it all the way in and
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: and it has been tremendously helpful to have you here
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: to to see also to get that direct feedback like
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: what am I doing this right? Does this field right?
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: You know? There's something to be said about um. One
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: of the things I thought is like I think this
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: is a surprise release or I think I'm doing this right,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: but not being able to see it myself and not
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: knowing if maybe I am pulling here a little bit
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: or something. So all that's to say, uh, this has
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: been tremendously helpful, and uh thank you for people that well,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: for people that want to either go to one of
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: your in person clinics or if they want to check
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: out the digital course or anything like that. Where can
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: people learn about shot i q and and all the
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: different things that you have out there that can help them. Yeah,
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: so it's shot i q dot com is the website,
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: and Joel Turner at shot i q dot com is
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: my is my email and hit me up. And so
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: we have our online course that is on shot i
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: q dot com and you learn all the things you
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: learn today. It's just you're watching my pretty face on
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: the screen, right and it's just video after video and
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: explain explanation of the science and then how to implement
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: it with a trad bow and how to implement it
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: with every type of release on your compound system. So
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: that's that's pretty cool that that is sold globally. It's
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: it's all over the place and people are finding I mean,
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: I get thank you notes every single day on that.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: How it's you know, change their life or whatever. It's
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: really cool to get this feedback and like, I was
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: just reading you an email that I got from a
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: guy from Italy, right, and he's he's trying to translate
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: what's going on, but it's it's worldwide and it is
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: a revolution and it's really cool. So shot i q
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: dot com that's where all the that's where it all happens.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: And then my live clinics are by request only and
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: so like an archery shop will request or a private
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: citizen may request, and there are some there are some
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: minimums to hit with those, um but just email me
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: if you're interested in a clinic and we'll make it happen.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: I'm pretty booked for but we're starting to book into
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: the three years, so it's a it's it's all over, man.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: It's good. And I just retired, so now I'm this
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: is shot i Q full time, So this is my
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: job now. Well, I'm glad that you're able to spend
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: all your time doing this because I think it's making
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: a difference to help people. It's helping I think, you
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: know from everything I've heard from other people that have
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: gone through this process, it's bringing joy back to people
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: in a thing that they have enjoyed so much but
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: there's been this black cloud hanging over part of it,
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: and you if you can remove that black cloud and
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: bring back the confidence which brings back the fun and
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: the joy. I think that, like you have said, I mean,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: it could be life changing and uh man, after last year,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: I'm ready for that. Twenty twenty two, whatever this year is,
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: I'm ready for a different year. So thank you, Joel.
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: That's been great. You're welcome, okay, and that's a rap.
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: Appreciate you tuning in. I recommend, as I said already,
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: go check out all of Joel's stuff, his courses, his clinics,
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: social media. He's got a lot of good things going
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: on and as you can see, a lot to offer.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: So thank you for tuning in, Thanks for being with
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: me on this one or found along with this journey.
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: Until next time, shoot your bow and stay wired to
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: hun
