The Great Escape (1963) | Ep. 48 - Part 1
That motorcycle jump is one of the most famous stunts in film history, and Steve McQueen wanted to do it himself. Luke, Westy, and Matt begin the story of the all-star prisoner-of-war epic.
In Part 1 we cover the film's opening, director John Sturges, the cast, and the second act — including the ensemble of escapees, the meticulous tunnel-digging operation, and McQueen's Cooler King straining against authority.
The break itself is still to come. Part 2 goes over the wire: crew, finale, reception, legacy. Out now.
