- 0:15Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 0:19Speaker 1: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy nom the United States

- 1:24Speaker 3: But now it is the president of the NBA G League.
- 1:27Speaker 3: So we actually are going to be announcing some exciting
- 1:31Speaker 3: things that ey L and G League will be doing together.
- 1:33Speaker 3: So yeah, it's fitting to have this conversation. We're gonna
- 1:38Speaker 3: be talking about all things business for lated when it
- 1:41Speaker 3: comes to sports, the G League, marketing, promotion, and of
- 1:45Speaker 3: course you know his his interesting journey from Atlanta to
- 1:50Speaker 3: third pick Canada to now running the G League.
- 1:54Speaker 4: The kids these days will probably not remember there was
- 1:56Speaker 4: a franchise of Vancouver. But there was a franchise of Vancouver,
- 1:59Speaker 4: sure and this was this was the franchise player for sure.
- 2:03Speaker 5: So first and Foremo, thank you for joining U appreciate,
- 2:05Speaker 5: thank you, thank you for having me, and thank you.
- 2:07Speaker 5: I said this off camera, but thank you for everything
- 2:09Speaker 5: you're doing, you know, educating you know, all of us,
- 2:12Speaker 5: exposing people. You know, I just shared I took a
- 2:15Speaker 5: clip you know, just recently and shared it with my
- 2:18Speaker 5: my younger brother who's interested in real estate. So what
- 2:21Speaker 5: you guys are doing is phenomenal and empowering.
- 2:25Speaker 4: To a lot of people. You APK, you sire it.
- 2:27Speaker 4: So what it's about, all.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Right, So let's get into it. So first I'll give
- 2:31Speaker 3: the backstory for anybody that doesn't know. So, yeah, you
- 2:33Speaker 3: were you're from Atlanta. McDonald's all American, one of the
- 2:37Speaker 3: best players, and then you went to Georgia Tech. I
- 2:40Speaker 3: went to cal cal and then freshman year, and then
- 2:45Speaker 3: you have an illustrious career in the NBA. But a
- 2:49Speaker 3: lot of people struggle after their post playing career, right
- 2:53Speaker 3: they now it's like the lottery to try to become
- 2:57Speaker 3: a broadcaster, but only a few people can actually really
- 3:00Speaker 3: be successful as a broadcaster, and a lot of guys,
- 3:03Speaker 3: you know, they're just trying to figure it out. They
- 3:04Speaker 3: make money. Some people have not made great decisions with
- 3:08Speaker 3: their money and they fall on financial hardships. But you're
- 3:11Speaker 3: somebody who obviously has figured it out after his career
- 3:14Speaker 3: and now you're an executive, you know, in the NBA,
- 3:18Speaker 3: you know, running the G League. So I first want
- 3:22Speaker 3: to just you know, what was that transition like for you?
- 3:26Speaker 3: Was this something that you always kind of had in
- 3:27Speaker 3: mind that you wanted to stay in sports, but on
- 3:29Speaker 3: an executive level and mentally, how was it transitioning from
- 3:33Speaker 3: being a star basketball player your whole life to now,
- 3:36Speaker 3: you know, being a regular citizen.
- 3:39Speaker 5: You know, one, I think the transition like starts at
- 3:43Speaker 5: the beginning. You know, I kind of picked that up
- 3:45Speaker 5: from like got you know, the Magic Johnson's Isaiah Thomas,
- 3:48Speaker 5: the guys before me I saw do really well as
- 3:52Speaker 5: they transitioned from playing and just talking to them and
- 3:55Speaker 5: understanding things that they were doing, meeting people, learning, being
- 3:58Speaker 5: curious while they were playing. And so I said, started there.
- 4:04Speaker 5: When I retired, I had the opportunity. I retired with
- 4:07Speaker 5: the Sacramento Kings. I retired early. My knee. You know,
- 4:11Speaker 5: I have some trouble with my knee, and I couldn't
- 4:13Speaker 5: you know, the last three years of my contract, I
- 4:16Speaker 5: couldn't play. And you know in the NBA, contracts are guaranteed.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Uh so I was still getting paid, but I couldn't play.
- 4:22Speaker 5: And the organization asked me to stay and help out
- 4:26Speaker 5: and you know, help out with you mentor some of
- 4:28Speaker 5: the younger players, and what but what they what? What
- 4:32Speaker 5: the guy who was the president then, a guy named
- 4:35Speaker 5: Jeff Petrie. What he allowed me to do was to
- 4:38Speaker 5: you know, he asked me to mentor and help younger players,
- 4:40Speaker 5: but you know, go do whatever else you want to do.
- 4:43Speaker 5: So I would go and I would meet with the CFO.
- 4:46Speaker 5: I go meet with the person who was over marketing.
- 4:49Speaker 5: You know, all the areas of the organization I had
- 4:52Speaker 5: never had exposure to. And you know what that did
- 4:55Speaker 5: for me was just opened up, like the idea that
- 4:58Speaker 5: this is a business and like wow, all these you know,
- 5:01Speaker 5: this media deal going on and this marketing deal, and okay,
- 5:04Speaker 5: so when you guys asked us to come to this
- 5:06Speaker 5: you know mixer, you know, to this you know, social engagement.
- 5:09Speaker 5: This is really what it was about. So I spent
- 5:12Speaker 5: two years doing that. I went, I was, you know,
- 5:16Speaker 5: kind of the one and done era. I was at
- 5:18Speaker 5: the front of that myself and stuff on Marlbury. So
- 5:22Speaker 5: I but in this time that I'm you know, playing
- 5:25Speaker 5: in the NBA and uh, you know now transitioning. I
- 5:29Speaker 5: was trying to finish school. So I and you know,
- 5:31Speaker 5: I'm in Sacramento. You know, if you know the northern California,
- 5:34Speaker 5: Berkeley was about an hour away. So during this time,
- 5:37Speaker 5: I went and I finished my undergrad at Berkeley.
- 5:41Speaker 4: You know.
- 5:42Speaker 5: From there, you know, I kind of worked in some
- 5:44Speaker 5: different areas in sports, and you know, before long I
- 5:49Speaker 5: kind of transitioned. I went back and got my masters,
- 5:51Speaker 5: and when I finished, that led me, you know, back
- 5:54Speaker 5: here to the NBA. Had done an internship here, internship
- 5:58Speaker 5: here at the NBA once so longster your debt led me.
- 6:02Speaker 5: But it all just it came just from being curious,
- 6:05Speaker 5: you know, not wanting you know, just my planning career
- 6:09Speaker 5: to be the end of you know, what I could
- 6:12Speaker 5: contribute and what I could do. I wasn't sure exactly
- 6:15Speaker 5: you know, where it would leave me and what I
- 6:16Speaker 5: would do. But it's been you know again, I think
- 6:19Speaker 5: I've been able to take my experience plan you know,
- 6:23Speaker 5: my experience around the business and you know, now cultivate
- 6:28Speaker 5: Daddy into you know, leading the G League.
- 6:31Speaker 4: So I mean that's interesting, right because most people when
- 6:34Speaker 4: they think intern, they think, all right, that's the person
- 6:36Speaker 4: that's going to do the job for free, that's going
- 6:38Speaker 4: to learn on the fly, being a star, being an
- 6:41Speaker 4: all star, Right, going from that part of life to
- 6:44Speaker 4: now being an intern and having to start over again
- 6:47Speaker 4: in a different realm. Was there any anxiety, any angst
- 6:51Speaker 4: or did you have that year of that you were
- 6:54Speaker 4: going around meeting CFOs. It really prompted you to say,
- 6:58Speaker 4: I'm comfortable in these settings. I'm gonna attack this thing
- 7:01Speaker 4: head on. I'm gonna start from the beginning. I'm gonna
- 7:02Speaker 4: work my way out.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Well, you know one, you know, I was like, I
- 7:06Speaker 5: did it. I was in I So, you know, after
- 7:09Speaker 5: a number of years with the King's Organization, I left
- 7:12Speaker 5: and you know, I went and I went to went
- 7:17Speaker 5: to grad school with the Business School, and and in
- 7:20Speaker 5: between my first year and my second year, I was like,
- 7:22Speaker 5: I want to experience. I want to you know, go
- 7:24Speaker 5: learn being a you know, just be in a regular
- 7:26Speaker 5: setting is hard to do that. So I, you know,
- 7:30Speaker 5: made some calls and email some people, and Mark Tatum,
- 7:33Speaker 5: who's the Deputy Commissioner, I got in touch with him
- 7:36Speaker 5: and I was telling them what I was doing.
- 7:38Speaker 4: You know.
- 7:39Speaker 5: The story I tell is like I was like all
- 7:40Speaker 5: over the place, and he was like, look, you know, okay,
- 7:43Speaker 5: we'll figure it out. But I ended up you know
- 7:45Speaker 5: interning here at the at the NBA, and you know,
- 7:49Speaker 5: like you know, what I did you know, honestly, you
- 7:52Speaker 5: I borrow from my background, like you know, you got
- 7:55Speaker 5: to start somewhere, you know, like even then you know
- 7:58Speaker 5: nobody Lebron and show up being Lebron, you know, like
- 8:02Speaker 5: you know Jordan and show up being Jordan's you know, nobody.
- 8:04Speaker 5: You have to you know, you kind of have to
- 8:06Speaker 5: start where you are. You know, we all need people
- 8:09Speaker 5: to help us and educate us, and then you have
- 8:11Speaker 5: to be willing to do the work and and kind
- 8:13Speaker 5: of you know, be open enough to learn it. So
- 8:16Speaker 5: in that part of it, you know, like I was,
- 8:19Speaker 5: I was fine, and you know, and yeah there's some
- 8:23Speaker 5: anxiety you don't know what you don't know, but you know,
- 8:25Speaker 5: you you're willing to learn and kind of you know
- 8:29Speaker 5: ingratiate yourself to people in a way that you know
- 8:31Speaker 5: people are willing to help and and and show you
- 8:34Speaker 5: the way. So for me, I never, you know again
- 8:37Speaker 5: like I never, you know, got so tied to the
- 8:43Speaker 5: idea of you know, like all like that was nice.
- 8:47Speaker 5: But when I was young, I read a thing that
- 8:49Speaker 5: said that you know, if if all I did in
- 8:52Speaker 5: life was you know, like this thing, and that's all
- 8:54Speaker 5: people knew me for that I did a poor job
- 8:56Speaker 5: of living. So I never wanted that to just be
- 8:59Speaker 5: you know, you know what I was known for the
- 9:01Speaker 5: only thing that I could do. So I never you know,
- 9:02Speaker 5: I try not to, you know, just be labeled as,
- 9:06Speaker 5: you know, a basketball player.
- 9:08Speaker 3: So all right, so let's let's get into this G
- 9:10Speaker 3: League conversation. So everybody knows about the NBA, right and
- 9:14Speaker 3: they know kind of heard about the G League Development League.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Can you explain exactly what the G League is, how
- 9:22Speaker 3: it works, the teams, all that to kind of get
- 9:24Speaker 3: people a greater you know, idea of the G League.
- 9:29Speaker 5: So so the G League and you know, in this
- 9:32Speaker 5: you know, first iteration, the NBA Development League, you know,
- 9:36Speaker 5: now G League, Gatoray League, and we're in our twenty
- 9:40Speaker 5: second year of you know existence. We are the official
- 9:46Speaker 5: development league, affiliate league of the NBA. So if you
- 9:50Speaker 5: you know, if somebody's a baseball fan, you think of
- 9:53Speaker 5: minor league based, minor league baseball, Triple A baseball, and
- 9:57Speaker 5: we are you know, if you are a player and
- 10:00Speaker 5: and you know, maybe it didn't you know, it didn't
- 10:02Speaker 5: happen for you out of college, you know, in the
- 10:06Speaker 5: year in years past, you know, the G League, D
- 10:09Speaker 5: League then is where you would come to hone. Your
- 10:12Speaker 5: skills continue to grow, just continue to you know, in
- 10:15Speaker 5: some cases you're there, you ready, you know, just wait
- 10:19Speaker 5: for for for opportunities. So you know Seth Curry, you know,
- 10:23Speaker 5: Steph's younger brother spent you know, four or five years
- 10:26Speaker 5: with us. Jordan Poole before he really you know, took off.
- 10:31Speaker 5: He you know, spent some time with us. Jeremy Lynn,
- 10:34Speaker 5: you know countless you know players, I think now the status.
- 10:38Speaker 5: You know, somewhere over fifty percent of current NBA players
- 10:40Speaker 5: have G League experience, so you know, everything from you know,
- 10:43Speaker 5: players that were passed up in the NBA draft, young
- 10:46Speaker 5: NBA players last year, half of the lottery picks spend
- 10:49Speaker 5: time in the G League. Half of the first round
- 10:51Speaker 5: spent time in the G League. So you know, you know,
- 10:53Speaker 5: players that were passed up in the draft, young NBA
- 10:57Speaker 5: players trying to you know, the way developed their game.
- 11:01Speaker 5: They's so, you know, eighteen nineteen, twenty years old, still
- 11:03Speaker 5: trying to find a role for themselves with NBA team
- 11:07Speaker 5: uh And now we have our team mc knight, which
- 11:10Speaker 5: is primarily made up of younger guys that are draft
- 11:14Speaker 5: that will be draft eligible. So the Jalen Greens, you
- 11:17Speaker 5: know in the past, Jonathan cominga school Henderson.
- 11:20Speaker 3: This past draft, I wasn't the team m knight. Can't
- 11:22Speaker 3: explain that.
- 11:23Speaker 5: So Team mckknight is is a league NBA G League
- 11:28Speaker 5: owned and operated team. They're based in Henderson, the bottom
- 11:32Speaker 5: right outside of Las Vegas, and that team plays in
- 11:36Speaker 5: the G League. They play the same you know, schedule,
- 11:38Speaker 5: the same teams as everyone else. But it's primarily made
- 11:42Speaker 5: up of young players that come from high school. You know,
- 11:45Speaker 5: some come from a broad come international and that will
- 11:49Speaker 5: you know, one two years enter the NBA draft. So
- 11:53Speaker 5: you know again you know Jalen Green now you know
- 11:56Speaker 5: everyone knows him. He was started with us with Team
- 11:58Speaker 5: m knight school school school Henderson, this past draft started
- 12:02Speaker 5: with us. So that that's our league made up. We're
- 12:06Speaker 5: thirty you know, it's thirty NBA teams with thirty one
- 12:11Speaker 5: G League teams will have will be thirty two. Phoenix
- 12:14Speaker 5: is the only NBA team that doesn't have a connection
- 12:16Speaker 5: to the G League. They'll be they'll be in I
- 12:21Speaker 5: feel really good in the real near future. And then
- 12:25Speaker 5: we have a team in Mexico City, independent team not
- 12:27Speaker 5: connected to an NBA team and then again team McKnight.
- 12:31Speaker 5: So that that's our league. That's that's our purpose, that's
- 12:34Speaker 5: what we do. We also a place where young coaches
- 12:37Speaker 5: grow up. You know, if you follow Nick Nurse seventy
- 12:41Speaker 5: six ers chair coach started started with.
- 12:44Speaker 4: US Champion leagues. Yeah, yes, yes.
- 12:47Speaker 5: You for all of our officials, if your NBA officials,
- 12:53Speaker 5: you started in the in the G League, you developed
- 12:55Speaker 5: and grew through the G League. We test rules. So
- 12:58Speaker 5: if you watch coaches challenge a new rule in the NBA,
- 13:01Speaker 5: we did Coaches Challenge in the GLE four or five
- 13:04Speaker 5: years before it reached the NBA. We tested, we analyze it.
- 13:09Speaker 5: We can kind of show success rates going back, you know,
- 13:13Speaker 5: four or five years. You know, so all of this,
- 13:15Speaker 5: we did the shot clock. If you see the shot clock,
- 13:17Speaker 5: you know it used to be always that like there
- 13:20Speaker 5: was a file in between the play. It go from
- 13:22Speaker 5: you know, the reset at twenty four. You know, we
- 13:24Speaker 5: started the fourteen. Yeah, you know, we so that you know,
- 13:28Speaker 5: we're a league of innovation as well.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Yeah, so ignite. It's interesting because not only does it
- 13:34Speaker 4: give an alternative for the kid who wants to come
- 13:37Speaker 4: out of high school and may not be eligible, right,
- 13:38Speaker 4: I think that you have to be one year postgrad.
- 13:41Speaker 4: They don't have to go overseas. I know that was
- 13:43Speaker 4: a route that Mellow took and then prior to him,
- 13:46Speaker 4: Brandon Jennings took. But they can get compensated differently, right, So,
- 13:50Speaker 4: Like I know, the average salary for the G League
- 13:53Speaker 4: might be I don't know, anywhere between fifty hundred. But
- 13:55Speaker 4: the guys who are looking like they're going to be
- 13:58Speaker 4: a first round pick or lottery plic really top five,
- 14:02Speaker 4: they can take on the largest salary. The guys like
- 14:04Speaker 4: Scoot Henderson and we were talking about Tea talk about
- 14:07Speaker 4: that process of them knowing that their lottery picks and
- 14:10Speaker 4: being able to take on salaries that are different from
- 14:12Speaker 4: the average player.
- 14:13Speaker 5: So it came from, you know, like the impetus of
- 14:17Speaker 5: it came from just this idea of young like guys
- 14:20Speaker 5: like looking for like different paths. You know, my in
- 14:23Speaker 5: my day, like it was no question. You know, it's
- 14:26Speaker 5: high school college. You know, I was up the era
- 14:29Speaker 5: of like Kevin Garnett and when he told us he
- 14:31Speaker 5: was going to them out, may you crazy like to
- 14:34Speaker 5: kill your right? So, but you saw more and more
- 14:39Speaker 5: young guys looking for different opportunities. We think we're a
- 14:42Speaker 5: perfect place for gods to grow and develop. And with that,
- 14:45Speaker 5: obviously you want to be able to pay them their
- 14:48Speaker 5: like market rate, and so I think we've we've been
- 14:50Speaker 5: able to do that with the schools and and Kamenas
- 14:54Speaker 5: and Jalen's. But in addition to that, like we've also
- 14:56Speaker 5: opened up it's no restrictions on them what they can
- 14:59Speaker 5: go and do beyond just you know, the salary they
- 15:02Speaker 5: make playing in the G League. So like School for example,
- 15:05Speaker 5: you know, while he was with us, he you know,
- 15:06Speaker 5: he signed you know, we're a Nike league. He went
- 15:09Speaker 5: and you know, signed a deal with with Puma. You know,
- 15:14Speaker 5: Jalen had his suite of marketing partnerships and things. So
- 15:18Speaker 5: it we even you know, this is you know pre
- 15:21Speaker 5: n I L. You know, they were able to go
- 15:24Speaker 5: and you know kind of be professionals, truly be professionals
- 15:27Speaker 5: with no restrictions. So it's worked well in that regard.
- 15:31Speaker 5: I think they, you know, are more than talented enough
- 15:33Speaker 5: to play in our league, and then just the opportunities
- 15:36Speaker 5: for them to kind of start their professional careers beyond
- 15:40Speaker 5: and then beyond the SATURD we still pay you know,
- 15:42Speaker 5: their tuitions, you know, whether they want to start you know,
- 15:46Speaker 5: college now they wanted to start in the future. We
- 15:48Speaker 5: pay for them to go to school. You know, we
- 15:50Speaker 5: have you know what I kind of think of as
- 15:52Speaker 5: a whole suite of you know, like practical education, financial literacy.
- 15:58Speaker 5: You know, we start teaching them about the c b A.
- 16:02Speaker 5: You know, now we start they have other you know interests.
- 16:06Speaker 5: You know, we try to explore it and help them
- 16:08Speaker 5: you know, kind of start exploring those interests. So we
- 16:12Speaker 5: try to you know, just comprehensive help them, you know,
- 16:15Speaker 5: on the court and off the court, develop and grow
- 16:18Speaker 5: and prepare for the NBA.
- 16:19Speaker 4: So okay, so what's.
- 16:23Speaker 3: The revenue model for the G League because obviously the NBA,
- 16:25Speaker 3: you know, television deals and a lot of money is generated,
- 16:30Speaker 3: but people don't really see the G League on television
- 16:33Speaker 3: and they're playing in much smaller arenas. Corporate sponsorships, I'm
- 16:37Speaker 3: assuming it's a lot lower than what it is in NBA.
- 16:40Speaker 5: So the model, the model is the same model. So
- 16:42Speaker 5: you know, still it's still saying you know, media sponsorship, tickets,
- 16:49Speaker 5: you know, same model is just you know smaller, you know,
- 16:53Speaker 5: you know, obviously and then you know as a league too,
- 16:56Speaker 5: you know, as we want to grow like all of
- 16:59Speaker 5: those areas of what we have to grow and so
- 17:00Speaker 5: we and and we have the benefit of being connected
- 17:05Speaker 5: and including a lot of what the NBA does. So
- 17:07Speaker 5: we we have a you know, we have national.
- 17:09Speaker 3: So it's the idea to be I think the w
- 17:12Speaker 3: n B A wasn't. I don't know if that even
- 17:14Speaker 3: profitable now, but I know that obviously that it's under
- 17:16Speaker 3: the NBA. Unbrother, right, So does the NBA care about
- 17:19Speaker 3: the G League being profitable?
- 17:20Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely, definitely, definitely, no doubt. That's That's what I
- 17:27Speaker 5: spend a lot of my time on is so you
- 17:29Speaker 5: you you find new ways to make it more profitable, finding,
- 17:32Speaker 5: you know, new ways to make to help our teams
- 17:35Speaker 5: be profitable, to grow the league to where it's profitable,
- 17:40Speaker 5: you know, in some ways looking at our league and say, okay,
- 17:43Speaker 5: like what is the what's the next model.
- 17:47Speaker 4: For the G League?
- 17:49Speaker 5: Like we meaning the league pays the players, you know,
- 17:55Speaker 5: and the typical model you know, say n B, A,
- 17:58Speaker 5: m l B, the the teams pay the players. Right,
- 18:04Speaker 5: so you know, we're again you know, this was like
- 18:07Speaker 5: the early days of the G league, it was like
- 18:10Speaker 5: eight teams. They were primarily in the Southeast. They were
- 18:13Speaker 5: in places like Columbus, Georgia and Roanoke, Virginia. You know,
- 18:17Speaker 5: we're now again, like you know, evolved. We're almost you know,
- 18:20Speaker 5: one to one with our NBA teams and you know,
- 18:23Speaker 5: so you know, sometimes the question is do we still
- 18:26Speaker 5: have the you know, should it be you know, a
- 18:28Speaker 5: different model now or you know, you know, how do
- 18:32Speaker 5: we grow you know, maybe even beyond just the thirty
- 18:36Speaker 5: NBA teams to help us grow, you know, what's the future.
- 18:40Speaker 5: So that's you know, that's what we spend a lot
- 18:41Speaker 5: of our time on. So that's interesting. So like let's
- 18:43Speaker 5: take the Next We're here in New York. James Down's
- 18:45Speaker 5: the owner of the Next, the west Chester Next or affiliate.
- 18:49Speaker 5: But James Down doesn't pay the salary of the west
- 18:51Speaker 5: Chester Next. That's up to the NBA or Gillie.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Right, So then the revenue that's taken from those type
- 18:58Speaker 4: of games that goes back to the league as well,
- 19:00Speaker 4: the westest Nick Okay, get it. So when we talk
- 19:04Speaker 4: about the teams, because.
- 19:05Speaker 5: They all let me be clear, the n b A
- 19:08Speaker 5: and the NBA team they support this league in that
- 19:10Speaker 5: so that they have that's how a player, any player
- 19:15Speaker 5: get you know, the Knicks can pull any player from
- 19:18Speaker 5: any team that's a G League. You know, that's how
- 19:20Speaker 5: so they have that ability because they you know, they support,
- 19:23Speaker 5: they contribute to the G League. But you know it's
- 19:27Speaker 5: still you know, areas and ways where we have to
- 19:30Speaker 5: as a league.
- 19:31Speaker 4: You know, so when the let's we'll stay with the
- 19:34Speaker 4: next if in that event, if they have a player
- 19:37Speaker 4: that is on Westchester and they get called up, I
- 19:40Speaker 4: guess if we're looking at farm system or developmental leagues,
- 19:42Speaker 4: when they get the call up, they can sign something
- 19:44Speaker 4: that's called like a two way contract.
- 19:46Speaker 5: They can do that, you can you know, so you
- 19:47Speaker 5: can have on in our rosters. You can have again,
- 19:51Speaker 5: they could be you know, young NBA players that are signed,
- 19:54Speaker 5: so they be contracted NBA players. So we hear it's
- 19:57Speaker 5: the Knicks manual quickly probably wouldn't be. But let's just say,
- 20:02Speaker 5: you know, he comes to my young player, he could
- 20:04Speaker 5: be assigned to our league, west Chester Knicks.
- 20:08Speaker 4: You know, you could have.
- 20:11Speaker 5: You know, player that was undrafted that's just a G
- 20:13Speaker 5: League contracted player that again the league is paying, the
- 20:16Speaker 5: league is paying and you can have. Then you know
- 20:19Speaker 5: this third contract that you mentioned in a two way contract,
- 20:21Speaker 5: those players are still for the most part contracted two
- 20:26Speaker 5: way players so or contracted NBA players.
- 20:31Speaker 3: So this Ignite conversations. So there's always been issues with
- 20:37Speaker 3: players that want to come straight to the NBA right
- 20:40Speaker 3: ever since they stopped. But now it's a lot of
- 20:42Speaker 3: different things have happened over the course of the last
- 20:44Speaker 3: twenty years. But at one point it looked like players
- 20:46Speaker 3: were going to start going overseas. We saw Brandon Jennings
- 20:49Speaker 3: went overseas and LaMelo ball, but that never really went
- 20:53Speaker 3: anywhere other than a couple cases. Then ot starts to
- 21:00Speaker 3: the thing that's still kind of figuring out how that's
- 21:03Speaker 3: going to work out. Do you think that Ignite at
- 21:07Speaker 3: some point will be like a primary choice for for
- 21:10Speaker 3: the top high school players to go to instead of
- 21:12Speaker 3: going to college.
- 21:13Speaker 5: I think it can be. I think we're we are
- 21:16Speaker 5: in a position to be able to facilitated. I think
- 21:22Speaker 5: the what you have now and I think is a
- 21:25Speaker 5: good thing, is them having the option to like make
- 21:28Speaker 5: decisions themselves. So and you always had like you always
- 21:33Speaker 5: had it. I don't think it has to be you know,
- 21:35Speaker 5: honestly to that, I don't think it has to be
- 21:38Speaker 5: you know, G League or Ignite or you know, college
- 21:41Speaker 5: or anything else over you know, one choice. Like you
- 21:43Speaker 5: know again, like at my time, you know, Tim Duncan
- 21:46Speaker 5: stayed three extra years of college. He probably could have
- 21:49Speaker 5: been the number one pick, you know, two or three
- 21:51Speaker 5: years in a row and came so like you've always
- 21:53Speaker 5: had that, you know, option of you know, but at
- 21:56Speaker 5: that time, it was just college or the NBA, and
- 21:59Speaker 5: I think now it's yeah, well they stopped.
- 22:02Speaker 3: So Jalen Jalen Rolls. We entered Jaylen roll shout to
- 22:08Speaker 3: Jailer Rose. He had an interesting perspective on his His
- 22:11Speaker 3: take was that the only sports that don't let players
- 22:15Speaker 3: come through out of high school are sports that are
- 22:17Speaker 3: dominated by black people. He was like, when you have tennis,
- 22:21Speaker 3: it's normal, Soccer people are playing at fifteen years old,
- 22:25Speaker 3: and every other sport pretty much. But he was like,
- 22:27Speaker 3: basketball and football, it's interesting that those sports don't allow
- 22:34Speaker 3: you to come straight out of high school. And by
- 22:37Speaker 3: not allowing you to come out of high school, there's
- 22:39Speaker 3: a lot of other people that's making a lot of money,
- 22:41Speaker 3: millions and billions of dollars whether it's colleges, whether it's whatever.
- 22:44Speaker 3: So what's your thoughts on specifically basketball players not being
- 22:49Speaker 3: able to come because there was a point some of
- 22:51Speaker 3: the best players of all time have come out of
- 22:52Speaker 3: high school. The greatest player of all time, right Lebronly.
- 22:59Speaker 3: So what's your thoughts with you pot coming out of
- 23:05Speaker 3: high school and and how does that impact.
- 23:08Speaker 5: I think it's looking and in this era again, like
- 23:17Speaker 5: the idea that you have the option I think with
- 23:19Speaker 5: n I l now, with what we're doing with the
- 23:21Speaker 5: G League, if it's over time, if it's abroad, the
- 23:24Speaker 5: fact that a young person can go and make money
- 23:29Speaker 5: and take care of themselves that and in the way
- 23:31Speaker 5: that they choose to. So if I can, if I
- 23:33Speaker 5: can go to school, and you know, if I could
- 23:35Speaker 5: have went to school and made you know, X amount
- 23:37Speaker 5: of money like that would in my in my situation,
- 23:42Speaker 5: that would have been like a world of difference. So
- 23:45Speaker 5: it was it was less about like the control of
- 23:49Speaker 5: entering to me entering the NBA or wherever, And it
- 23:53Speaker 5: was you know, the ability to be able to like
- 23:55Speaker 5: take care of yourself and earn a salary and earn
- 23:58Speaker 5: money you know, based on you know, other people profiting
- 24:02Speaker 5: on you. I think that to me, I think that's
- 24:04Speaker 5: really important. Like when you get into the you know,
- 24:07Speaker 5: the age and the you know, at what point all
- 24:12Speaker 5: those things are like, you know, collectively collectively agreed upon
- 24:16Speaker 5: between like leagues and players, right, Like, so you know
- 24:21Speaker 5: that part, I don't, you know. I think it's I
- 24:23Speaker 5: think the part that is really important is that the
- 24:28Speaker 5: players have the options and the abilities to be able
- 24:31Speaker 5: to go and you know, start making money monetized take
- 24:34Speaker 5: care of themselves.
- 24:34Speaker 3: But do you think that players should be able to
- 24:36Speaker 3: go to the NBA shot high school.
- 24:39Speaker 5: I think that I think they are. I think it's
- 24:43Speaker 5: something that's good enough.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Hm.
- 24:45Speaker 5: I think it's something that's good enough. I think, you know,
- 24:48Speaker 5: obviously it's something that's good enough. But you know, to
- 24:52Speaker 5: say all of them, you know, again, like it has
- 24:56Speaker 5: to work for like both sides have to work. For
- 24:58Speaker 5: the leagues, it has to work for like for the
- 25:01Speaker 5: players and the players. The players have to agree that's
- 25:03Speaker 5: the right thing. The leagues have to agree, I have
- 25:05Speaker 5: to get together to agree that, you know, this group
- 25:07Speaker 5: of players should be able to be a part of
- 25:10Speaker 5: the league. I think, for for us from a G
- 25:13Speaker 5: League standpoint, having that option, you know, I think it
- 25:17Speaker 5: helps some of that conversation.
- 25:19Speaker 4: I feel like every time we hear that conversation, it's
- 25:21Speaker 4: like just as of Lebron James is a Kobe Bryant
- 25:24Speaker 4: Trace McGrady, but there's also a Collie on Young from
- 25:27Speaker 4: your age, from your day where it's like or Lenny
- 25:29Speaker 4: Cook who doesn't make it. I want to stay with
- 25:32Speaker 4: Ignite because I feel like the spreading and the growth
- 25:35Speaker 4: of the brand, it's kind of not reliant, but it's
- 25:38Speaker 4: it has a big purpose in having a Knight as
- 25:41Speaker 4: a showcase team in a sense where I remember last
- 25:44Speaker 4: year when it was like we all heard about Victor
- 25:46Speaker 4: Wynbiama when we be able to see in the play
- 25:48Speaker 4: and it was like, okay, he's going to play for
- 25:49Speaker 4: a scoop and Ignite and it was like, okay, now
- 25:52Speaker 4: the focus is now on the league, right, we get
- 25:54Speaker 4: to see the kids from mgnite and now we get
- 25:56Speaker 4: to see vic. How is scheduling for that right, because
- 25:59Speaker 4: that's not a regular team that's playing. They're playing an
- 26:02Speaker 4: international team. And I know, now we have another showcase,
- 26:05Speaker 4: we have another start that's coming from France, and now
- 26:08Speaker 4: you have Ron Holland on Ignite, who we all thought
- 26:10Speaker 4: was going to Texas is now only. How does that
- 26:13Speaker 4: work in terms of scheduling and making it a showcase game?
- 26:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I means the coordination of it. You're trying to
- 26:18Speaker 5: you know.
- 26:20Speaker 4: This episode is brought to you by P and C Bank.

- 28:10Speaker 1: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 28:14Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 28:18Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas. Man of Venezuelan charged with
- 28:22Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 28:26Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 28:30Speaker 1: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy Noman, the United States
- 28:34Speaker 1: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 28:39Speaker 1: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 28:42Speaker 1: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 28:46Speaker 1: are here illegally, your next you will be fined nearly
- 28:49Speaker 1: one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned, and deported. You will
- 28:54Speaker 1: never return. But if you register using our CBP home
- 28:57Speaker 1: app and leave now, you could be allowed to return legally.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Do what's right. Leave now. Under President Trump, America's laws,
- 29:06Speaker 1: border and families will be protected.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
- 29:11Speaker 5: Obviously, connect with you know, we're a league. You're trying
- 29:14Speaker 5: to connect with the league in this case, you know
- 29:18Speaker 5: International league, and you know kind of tie in there
- 29:21Speaker 5: the timing of their season with the timing of our season,
- 29:25Speaker 5: and you know, take one team and you know, bring
- 29:28Speaker 5: them here. So I mean it gets it's not it's
- 29:33Speaker 5: not you know, seamless, like there's a lot of moving
- 29:36Speaker 5: parts to it. And you know, their victor, their team
- 29:41Speaker 5: played in the l NB Pro a league in France,
- 29:44Speaker 5: so like you know, the timing, like the timing of
- 29:47Speaker 5: their schedule of their league games to be able to
- 29:50Speaker 5: come here and play those games against Ignite. Again, they
- 29:55Speaker 5: had to do some things on their end to make
- 29:57Speaker 5: it work. We had to do some things to make
- 29:58Speaker 5: sure it made it work. You know this. You know
- 30:01Speaker 5: this season we brought in the team from Australia, Perth,
- 30:06Speaker 5: and they matched up against Ron and Mantus Briselles.
- 30:09Speaker 4: You know.
- 30:10Speaker 5: The idea is, you know, again like it started, and
- 30:13Speaker 5: you know, say with School and Victor and you take, okay,
- 30:16Speaker 5: the two most highly talented players in that draft. Again
- 30:19Speaker 5: this year, you know, with Ron and Alex Saar, same
- 30:24Speaker 5: thing to lead you know, two of the top highly
- 30:27Speaker 5: talent like when you know again like bringing this talent
- 30:32Speaker 5: from around the world and allowing people to be able
- 30:35Speaker 5: to you know, see them, witness them before they you know,
- 30:41Speaker 5: get to the NBA. I think we all remember, you know,
- 30:44Speaker 5: seeing say Lebron and Carmelo play in there like high
- 30:48Speaker 5: school game at the time, and you know how legendary
- 30:50Speaker 5: that that was. You know. You know My thought is
- 30:53Speaker 5: like some years later, people will remember seeing School in Victor,
- 30:58Speaker 5: you know, and that will be in a you know,
- 30:59Speaker 5: that's in G League game essentially, So you know, part
- 31:02Speaker 5: of what we want to be able to do as
- 31:04Speaker 5: a league is you know, you know, introduce you know,
- 31:08Speaker 5: the best young players around the world to people, you know,
- 31:11Speaker 5: ahead of the ahead of the NBA.
- 31:14Speaker 4: Do you is there a process, right if a kid
- 31:18Speaker 4: is super talented, Let's say, you know, he's top ten
- 31:20Speaker 4: in his high school class, is this a process for
- 31:23Speaker 4: them to become a member of the Night or like,
- 31:26Speaker 4: how do you do that you sit down with twenty
- 31:28Speaker 4: guys and say, all right, these five or these three
- 31:30Speaker 4: are the ones that we're going to allow to be
- 31:32Speaker 4: on the team or or is there a try out process?
- 31:34Speaker 5: It's a you know, I think it's probably more of
- 31:36Speaker 5: an education process. And like it doesn't it doesn't fit
- 31:39Speaker 5: for for everyone, like everyone won't you know, I think
- 31:43Speaker 5: it's the right decision for them. You know, like this year,
- 31:47Speaker 5: the Nite team this year had more draft ledgeble got
- 31:51Speaker 5: I think eight, Like that's the most like we've had,
- 31:53Speaker 5: you know, in the league at one time. And then
- 31:56Speaker 5: I think, you know, throughout the league we probably have
- 31:58Speaker 5: another eight or ten. That's you know, some a lot
- 32:01Speaker 5: of people don't know, like there are other guys that
- 32:04Speaker 5: can go in and draft. They just play on our
- 32:06Speaker 5: you know, you know other you know, standard G League teams.
- 32:11Speaker 5: So like the opportunity is there. You know, we explained
- 32:14Speaker 5: you know, like you know, coach Jason Hard is the coach.
- 32:17Speaker 5: He explains it to you know everyone. You know, Andre
- 32:21Speaker 5: Barrett Is is like our program director. You know. They
- 32:25Speaker 5: they explained that you remember.
- 32:27Speaker 4: Dre you saying Jason Hard remember him playing at Syracuse.
- 32:30Speaker 5: Yeah, so they explained, you know, like the families and
- 32:33Speaker 5: educate them and this what is this is what it's about.
- 32:36Speaker 5: And for the most part so far, I think we're
- 32:39Speaker 5: you know, kind of growing to a point some you
- 32:41Speaker 5: know where you know, you know, one team to you know,
- 32:45Speaker 5: for that demographic of players is tough, but you know
- 32:51Speaker 5: we've been able to, you know, take care of the
- 32:54Speaker 5: guys and get them opportunity.
- 32:56Speaker 3: So okay, so for the star player there, they're obviously
- 33:02Speaker 3: gonna make a lot more money in Europe, right. But
- 33:05Speaker 3: I guess the advantage of the G League is that
- 33:08Speaker 3: it's easier call up.
- 33:09Speaker 5: It's the proximity. It's easier call up, you know, if
- 33:12Speaker 5: you again, like I played last night in Westchester or
- 33:17Speaker 5: Long Island, and you know, Brooklyn needs a player or
- 33:21Speaker 5: is looking at a player. I mean you have you know,
- 33:24Speaker 5: NBA executives, NBA scouts personnel every G League game, you know,
- 33:30Speaker 5: so you know, and in some cases, you know they
- 33:33Speaker 5: probably they're talking and have players as a part of
- 33:35Speaker 5: their development system, you know, even though they're not quite
- 33:38Speaker 5: yet at the NBA level. You know, they they're checking
- 33:41Speaker 5: the interest in seeing them grow and developed.
- 33:46Speaker 3: So is this a conversation that gms or coaches have
- 33:49Speaker 3: or players agents to try to convince them, like, look,
- 33:51Speaker 3: you're going to make more money in Greece, but this
- 33:54Speaker 3: is why you should play in the G League or.
- 33:56Speaker 5: If you really you know, I think the ideas like
- 33:58Speaker 5: if you really believe you're an NBA player, Like there's
- 34:01Speaker 5: no you know, I let you know, the team basketball
- 34:07Speaker 5: people say this, but like you know, they say, like
- 34:09Speaker 5: the G League is the second best.
- 34:11Speaker 3: League in the world, right, so do you think it's
- 34:13Speaker 3: the second best league in the world.
- 34:14Speaker 5: I don't, you know, I don't like fully, like if
- 34:19Speaker 5: you take our league with yes, and I say that
- 34:23Speaker 5: because if you take our league with young NBA players,
- 34:27Speaker 5: G League players in its strongest form, like it's like
- 34:30Speaker 5: the level of basketball. I think quality of basketball is
- 34:34Speaker 5: is only second to the NBA. And you know, again,
- 34:39Speaker 5: if you truly believe you're an NBA player and you're
- 34:41Speaker 5: a young player and that's what you're going for, is no.
- 34:44Speaker 5: You know, maybe you can make a little more money
- 34:46Speaker 5: somewhere else, but it's nowhere that you're gonna get an
- 34:49Speaker 5: opportunity to show that. Then, you know, playing in the
- 34:53Speaker 5: G League, what is the call up process? Simply you know,
- 34:58Speaker 5: if if you you know you know again, we use
- 35:04Speaker 5: the Knicks because we're here, right I'm the Knicks, and
- 35:06Speaker 5: you know I have an open roster spot or I
- 35:09Speaker 5: need a particular player, you know, players injured, you know,
- 35:14Speaker 5: I call you know that players agent. You know, hey,
- 35:17Speaker 5: we're you know, we're interested. We're gonna you know, sign them.
- 35:21Speaker 5: We want to sign you know, ex player. You know,
- 35:25Speaker 5: sometimes it's what we have like ten day contracts, where
- 35:27Speaker 5: it's a ten day contract where you get paid you know,
- 35:30Speaker 5: a certain rate over you know ten days, or sometimes
- 35:33Speaker 5: you know it's two ways. You know, it's you know,
- 35:36Speaker 5: sign them to a two way contract or you know,
- 35:38Speaker 5: at times just a standard you know contract for for
- 35:41Speaker 5: that season or or beyond.
- 35:44Speaker 4: And you know, then you.
- 35:46Speaker 5: You alert the player and the team and you know,
- 35:51Speaker 5: usually twenty four to forty eight hours they in market.
- 35:55Speaker 4: They call their parents like I got the call up. Yeah.
- 35:57Speaker 4: So in terms of the salaries for the team, is
- 36:02Speaker 4: there a cap that the league ha sept for each team?
- 36:06Speaker 4: And like what's the average salary per player?
- 36:10Speaker 5: They these are good questions. So are are all of
- 36:15Speaker 5: our players make the same? I mean the G League
- 36:19Speaker 5: pay all of our players the same salary? Forty one
- 36:24Speaker 5: five hundred is a G League salary for everybody, every
- 36:27Speaker 5: for every player. Now, there was a time again like
- 36:29Speaker 5: earlier iterations you had, we had these things. You know,
- 36:33Speaker 5: some people they don't they won't even like Mark, you
- 36:35Speaker 5: guys won't even remember this. But we had like a contract,
- 36:37Speaker 5: B contract C contracts and you know kind of tier
- 36:41Speaker 5: and you know we got rid of that. So but
- 36:43Speaker 5: that's the standard G League.
- 36:49Speaker 4: Salary, right.
- 36:50Speaker 5: But then you you also, you know, you have players
- 36:53Speaker 5: that go to NBA training camp and they get paid
- 36:56Speaker 5: a certain amount of money for you know, they may
- 36:58Speaker 5: go to training camp and it gets third amount of
- 37:00Speaker 5: money they get, you know, a ten day contract. We talked,
- 37:03Speaker 5: you know, talked about it, or they're on a two
- 37:05Speaker 5: way contract they move, So the average salary for a
- 37:09Speaker 5: G League player is closer to you know, probably one
- 37:13Speaker 5: hundred thousand than that. You know that that salary they
- 37:16Speaker 5: get paid from playing in the G League.
- 37:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I was looking at that and I was trying
- 37:21Speaker 4: to figure it. I'm like, I saw the forty one,
- 37:23Speaker 4: but it said the average person is making anywhere between
- 37:25Speaker 4: one hundred and hundred and twenty five. But because you
- 37:26Speaker 4: add those things into it, are there specific teams that
- 37:30Speaker 4: players are more advantageous to go to because of the
- 37:34Speaker 4: winning culture? Right? Like for example, like the LA team
- 37:38Speaker 4: obviously doesn't it's an affiliate of the Lakers, but they
- 37:41Speaker 4: haven't won at the same clip, whereas the Toronto affiliate
- 37:45Speaker 4: right has won some chips and do players look at
- 37:48Speaker 4: it like that.
- 37:49Speaker 5: Like, look, we all are like I can't sell, you know,
- 37:52Speaker 5: I'm speaking of our teams now as relates to like players,
- 37:55Speaker 5: you can't sell and you can't sell, you're not selling
- 38:00Speaker 5: can pay you more money because everybody makes the same salary.
- 38:04Speaker 5: What you're selling is the opportunity to grow and develop.
- 38:07Speaker 5: And like some teams have a track record for Higo,
- 38:10Speaker 5: all the guys that came through here and started here
- 38:13Speaker 5: and you know, this is what's you know, their future,
- 38:16Speaker 5: this is what happened for them when they left here.
- 38:18Speaker 5: So yeah, one hundred one hundred percent. But I think
- 38:21Speaker 5: it's more based on because inn Ar League, like you know,
- 38:24Speaker 5: guys are interested in how I, how I can grow,
- 38:27Speaker 5: how I can develop. I mean, they're betting on themselves
- 38:30Speaker 5: and they want, you know, a team that's going to
- 38:33Speaker 5: help them, you know, reach their goals.
- 38:36Speaker 3: So what's some of the marketing initiatives that you guys
- 38:39Speaker 3: have put in place over the last couple of years
- 38:41Speaker 3: to help grow visibility for the G League.
- 38:44Speaker 5: We have really, we have really you know, I think
- 38:47Speaker 5: strong partnership with the general with you know, marketing and
- 38:53Speaker 5: you know content insurance company. Yes, so that's been that's
- 38:58Speaker 5: been a you know, we do a what's what's the
- 39:02Speaker 5: name the break where we've done content with them, and
- 39:08Speaker 5: you know, Shack is a Shack is a big is
- 39:11Speaker 5: a big sponsor, so Shack, you know, obviously it's kind
- 39:16Speaker 5: of the voice over Nike is you know obviously we're
- 39:19Speaker 5: Nike League. So that's the connection and benefit that we
- 39:24Speaker 5: get from being connected to Nike is always huge. And
- 39:27Speaker 5: then with the Gatory, you know, I think a lot
- 39:29Speaker 5: of times what people miss is as the G League,
- 39:32Speaker 5: like we're the We're the Gatorade League, and you know,
- 39:36Speaker 5: that connection is huge. And then you know, I think
- 39:40Speaker 5: one that's new that's coming up is our partnership with
- 39:43Speaker 5: the Hyatt And you know what that did. That that
- 39:46Speaker 5: allowed us to take our G League Winter Showcase, which
- 39:50Speaker 5: the last four years have been in Las Vegas. That's
- 39:52Speaker 5: allowed us to take it. And now we'll be in
- 39:54Speaker 5: Orlando and that's all of our teams and you just
- 39:59Speaker 5: think of like a bad basketball convention. That's you know,
- 40:01Speaker 5: all of our teams there, all of the NBA general managers.
- 40:06Speaker 3: You know what was it like combine?
- 40:09Speaker 5: It's like combines on steroids because they're actually playing. You know,
- 40:12Speaker 5: we're playing competitive games, you're playing real games. We've bad
- 40:15Speaker 5: you know, a couple of years ago, you have players
- 40:17Speaker 5: leaving from there, a getting signed, going to NBA teams.
- 40:21Speaker 5: You know, we have our we have our competition. Like
- 40:25Speaker 5: the sort of first fourteen games of our NBA season.
- 40:28Speaker 5: We talked about n season tournament before the first fourteen
- 40:32Speaker 5: games of our season are essentially a tournament, and the
- 40:35Speaker 5: top eight teams from this part of our season when
- 40:39Speaker 5: we go to showcase, they're competing for one hundred thousand
- 40:42Speaker 5: dollars and you know, so then you break that up
- 40:44Speaker 5: ten gly players ten thousand a piece like our guys
- 40:47Speaker 5: are you know, you add that to the forty one
- 40:49Speaker 5: five that you know again that takes that up, but
- 40:51Speaker 5: that they're going for that, you know hard. But so
- 40:55Speaker 5: all of all of you know, all of those parts
- 40:57Speaker 5: of you know, our season that that's included in that,
- 41:04Speaker 5: but those are you know, say to the question, you know, obviously,
- 41:07Speaker 5: what we've done, you know with the General that's a
- 41:10Speaker 5: like a G League standalone partnership, is not you know
- 41:14Speaker 5: n b A and G League, that's a G League partnership.
- 41:17Speaker 5: Nike is huge, Gatorated is huge. And then what we're
- 41:19Speaker 5: doing now with the Hyatt taking this event there the
- 41:23Speaker 5: Showcase is you know, really excited. But you know other things,
- 41:27Speaker 5: you know J Lab, you know money Line, that's uh,
- 41:31Speaker 5: that's an ignite partnership. You know O v O was
- 41:34Speaker 5: a you know, an ignited partnership. So a lot you
- 41:38Speaker 5: know a lot of them, but you know, i'd say
- 41:39Speaker 5: those are the ones that are doing, you know, kind
- 41:43Speaker 5: of the most exciting things with us right now.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Let's talk about probably one of the biggest marketing moments
- 41:48Speaker 4: and league the biggest. I mean Matt Leclom prior to
- 41:52Speaker 4: Georgetown when's the Dunk Contest, But he's a part of
- 41:56Speaker 4: the G League, right, he's not on the NBA roster
- 41:59Speaker 4: at the time. Talk about what that moment meant to
- 42:02Speaker 4: the lead.
- 42:03Speaker 5: I think, you know, you say, like partnerships and marketing.
- 42:06Speaker 5: I think you know all these things that we do,
- 42:10Speaker 5: like with the NBA, like you can't you know, like
- 42:12Speaker 5: All Star probably second to the Finals is the biggest
- 42:17Speaker 5: platform the NBA has, so for us to be able
- 42:19Speaker 5: to come and find ways to be included, uh in
- 42:23Speaker 5: All Star last year, we were included in you know,
- 42:26Speaker 5: every day of All Stars. So we were you know,
- 42:29Speaker 5: we were a part of the Rookie Game. Now we
- 42:33Speaker 5: we're you know, we're one of the teams. There's a
- 42:35Speaker 5: G League team in the Rookie in the Rising Stars,
- 42:38Speaker 5: Rookie Sophomore Game, Dunk contests with Mac and then we
- 42:44Speaker 5: had our you know, our up next game on Sunday,
- 42:47Speaker 5: and you know with Mac to be you know, to
- 42:50Speaker 5: be a G League player and to go you know,
- 42:52Speaker 5: not like not only you know one, but like this
- 42:55Speaker 5: stuff like we hadn't seen that stuff, right, and uh,
- 43:00Speaker 5: you just really like put on the show and you
- 43:03Speaker 5: see all the you know, Gianni's and you know everybody
- 43:06Speaker 5: else celebrating them for you know, for our guys, that's like,
- 43:11Speaker 5: that's that's everything. And the ability you know, for us
- 43:14Speaker 5: to then go and amplify that those those moments, you
- 43:18Speaker 5: can you gotta be ready for them, you know, it's
- 43:20Speaker 5: like you gotta be you know, you gotta be ready
- 43:22Speaker 5: for those moments because you know you don't get them,
- 43:25Speaker 5: you know, every day.
- 43:26Speaker 4: And Julie, I can, I can imagine the the Sixers
- 43:31Speaker 4: affiliate jerseys being sold out.
- 43:34Speaker 5: Yeah, well let's talk about since you're talking about All
- 43:37Speaker 5: Star and partnerships and other extremely intelligent decision on you guys,
- 43:41Speaker 5: behalf rightly man right future.
- 43:45Speaker 3: Very innovative for sure. So Alesia will be a part
- 43:49Speaker 3: of this year's All Star festivities with you guys collaboration.
- 43:56Speaker 3: So we're gonna be we're gonna be picking the All
- 43:58Speaker 3: Star team, gonna be drafting and it's actually gonna be
- 44:01Speaker 3: the Eyo team, that's a fact. And then we're gonna
- 44:04Speaker 3: be live stream in the game.
- 44:06Speaker 4: That's gonna be good. You know you played basketball your
- 44:08Speaker 4: whole life for sure. I don't think they know that.
- 44:11Speaker 4: So this is gonna be fun to sit down and
- 44:13Speaker 4: do a game. Man, it's gonna be done.
- 44:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:14Speaker 4: So yeah, let's talk about that.
- 44:17Speaker 3: You know, who's whose bright ideas that?
- 44:21Speaker 5: So the idea of the game is, you know, up next,
- 44:25Speaker 5: that's you know, our best, you know, our brightest G
- 44:28Speaker 5: League players and you know, not All Star because it's
- 44:31Speaker 5: only one All Star game, right, like they all want
- 44:34Speaker 5: to be in the big All Star Game. So that
- 44:36Speaker 5: you know that the concept of that is to be
- 44:38Speaker 5: able to celebrate our G League players during the All
- 44:41Speaker 5: Star weekend. Bring them there and then you know we
- 44:44Speaker 5: did that last year. Now say, you know our group,
- 44:47Speaker 5: you know, how can we make it even you know,
- 44:52Speaker 5: something different? Innovative, creative, And the idea there was okay,
- 44:57Speaker 5: let's let's you know, kind of partner with someone to say, okay,
- 45:02Speaker 5: you know you you have your own team, you know,
- 45:05Speaker 5: pick the team. So we break the teams up into
- 45:08Speaker 5: three three teams, four teams. Mark with yeah, so we
- 45:12Speaker 5: will break the teams up into four teams. One of
- 45:14Speaker 5: the teams will be the uy L team. You guys
- 45:18Speaker 5: will be able to pick your own team, and we're
- 45:21Speaker 5: going to you know, the way the game will go.
- 45:24Speaker 5: We'll try to you know, kind of make it too cash,
- 45:26Speaker 5: you know, where it's you know, faster pace, and kind
- 45:29Speaker 5: of gamify you know, you'll be able to stream it
- 45:33Speaker 5: on your platform, so strengths you know, you know, distributed
- 45:36Speaker 5: in different ways, and just make it a different you
- 45:39Speaker 5: know again, like a different experience of a game and
- 45:43Speaker 5: get really get really creative. And you know, you guys,
- 45:47Speaker 5: you know, being willing to be a part of that
- 45:49Speaker 5: is obviously huge. Uh, I'm telling us, and it's going
- 45:52Speaker 5: to be I think, you know again, empowering and a great,
- 45:57Speaker 5: great opportunity for our guys general manage.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I told, I told the guys. I
- 46:03Speaker 4: mean I've been watching. I'm already watching the g D,
- 46:06Speaker 4: but now I'm even more intently watching because I got
- 46:09Speaker 4: a scout to see who's gonna be on our team.
- 46:11Speaker 4: Because we don't come to just be a part of things.
- 46:13Speaker 4: We only participate because we're coming to win everything. So
- 46:17Speaker 4: we appreciate the opportunity to come and win.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Yeah, but now I definitely appreciate it for sure. And
- 46:24Speaker 3: is it something that you know, you guys, I want
- 46:27Speaker 3: to do more of as far as you know, untraditional
- 46:29Speaker 3: type marketing reaching. We're in a different world now right
- 46:31Speaker 3: where people are consuming content different It's not just a
- 46:34Speaker 3: matter of watching television, right. It's a matter of social media.
- 46:36Speaker 3: It's a matter of YouTube, it's a matter of podcasts,
- 46:38Speaker 3: a variety of different things. So yeah, is that something
- 46:43Speaker 3: that you know, you guys are embracing more on that
- 46:45Speaker 3: online social media marketing type of platforms, no doubt.
- 46:49Speaker 5: And and we we have to you know, one just
- 46:53Speaker 5: like the younger fans that we want to reach and
- 46:56Speaker 5: you know that we weren't connected to the G League
- 47:00Speaker 5: and to be able to introduce again like new fans,
- 47:04Speaker 5: younger fans that you know, we can even be the
- 47:06Speaker 5: first stop to them becoming NBA fans. And then that's
- 47:10Speaker 5: just again as a league, like when I talk about
- 47:12Speaker 5: testing rules and you know, introducing you know, new new
- 47:16Speaker 5: concepts to the game. That's you know, like League of Innovation,
- 47:19Speaker 5: that's what we want to be known as. So I
- 47:22Speaker 5: think this is even you know, a further stuff in
- 47:24Speaker 5: that direction.
- 47:26Speaker 4: And so again this has taking place during All Star weeks.
- 47:28Speaker 4: So it's gonna be in Indiana this year. Talk about
- 47:31Speaker 4: things that the time and that has happened and get
- 47:34Speaker 4: the details. Everybody who wants to support can can be there.
- 47:37Speaker 5: To we'll be we'll hold the game Sunday, so it's
- 47:41Speaker 5: Sunday afternoon before NBA All Star Game. It'll be in
- 47:46Speaker 5: the footprint. It's what you called crossover, so like in
- 47:50Speaker 5: the footprint of the NBA activations going on. So if
- 47:55Speaker 5: you're at the NBA All Star like the All Star
- 47:58Speaker 5: NBA All Star Game, tickets are really really hard to
- 48:00Speaker 5: get a lot of people can't get those tickets. You
- 48:03Speaker 5: can get a ticket to the up next game. So
- 48:05Speaker 5: come to the up next game and cheer four you know,
- 48:09Speaker 5: the future stars of the NBA. How would they get
- 48:16Speaker 5: a ticket? Just the NBA dot Com, NBA dot Com.
- 48:20Speaker 3: That's part of the package of just not the All
- 48:23Speaker 3: Star Game, but like they have a package where you
- 48:24Speaker 3: could come to like the type thing. Yes, and that's
- 48:29Speaker 3: included in that. Yes, okay, and yeah, this is exciting.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Definitely looking forward to it for sure. Before we leave,
- 48:39Speaker 3: any other initiatives that you guys are working on or
- 48:42Speaker 3: what's what's your vision for you know, making this league
- 48:45Speaker 3: as you know big as possible.
- 48:48Speaker 5: Well you know, obviously we like I said, I think
- 48:51Speaker 5: that for a long time our goal was getting having
- 48:53Speaker 5: thirty G League teams the NBA team, so we're really
- 48:56Speaker 5: close to that. And then continue to create platforms and
- 49:00Speaker 5: opportunities for our guys to grow and grow on the
- 49:03Speaker 5: court and off the court. So you know, we again
- 49:06Speaker 5: we you know, we talked about Ignite. But for all
- 49:08Speaker 5: of our our players, we offer them a continuing education program,
- 49:13Speaker 5: We offer them job shadow programs, we offer you know,
- 49:19Speaker 5: entrepreneur programs where they continue to learn. So just continue
- 49:22Speaker 5: to put the league in a place, put our players
- 49:24Speaker 5: in a place where they can continue to grow and learn.
- 49:28Speaker 3: How do you feel about the state of basketball right now?
- 49:30Speaker 3: A lot of people, you know, the Europeans taken over.
- 49:36Speaker 3: It's an international game, and even how the game is
- 49:39Speaker 3: played it is more of a European style. The euro
- 49:41Speaker 3: step right, and people are playing the game more different.
- 49:45Speaker 3: Step on steph has changed the game as far as
- 49:48Speaker 3: shooting threes. Now everybody shoot threes at twelve years old,
- 49:50Speaker 3: people come down from half court shoot threes.
- 49:52Speaker 4: You're a big man.
- 49:53Speaker 3: But the big man is not really relevant in today's
- 49:56Speaker 3: game anymore. Seven foot is when beyond the seven four
- 49:59Speaker 3: and he's a guard much so the game has changed
- 50:02Speaker 3: a lot since the nineties and early two thousands and
- 50:06Speaker 3: the golden age of the NBA. How people like to say,
- 50:08Speaker 3: but I think it's I think it's in a good space.
- 50:12Speaker 3: What are your thoughts as far as somebody that's actually
- 50:15Speaker 3: played the game and you've you've seen different stages of
- 50:17Speaker 3: the game where we are now, how you feel.
- 50:19Speaker 5: I think, I think the game is is great. And
- 50:21Speaker 5: I mean I even say that like with a critical
- 50:23Speaker 5: I'm not saying like I like every you know, I
- 50:27Speaker 5: would like a couple of more post touches. But I
- 50:29Speaker 5: think the game is I think the game is great.
- 50:31Speaker 5: I think the game is a global game, you know.
- 50:34Speaker 5: I think the idea that it has to be you know,
- 50:36Speaker 5: how many you know, Europeans or international players, you know
- 50:40Speaker 5: taking over the game. I just think, like good players,
- 50:43Speaker 5: you know, find their way to the best league in
- 50:46Speaker 5: the world, Like the NBA is the best league in
- 50:48Speaker 5: the world. I think styles, I think that evolves, Like
- 50:52Speaker 5: you know, I think right now it is a style
- 50:54Speaker 5: of kind of five man out and you know, pace
- 50:57Speaker 5: and you know, shooting a lot of perimeter shots. That
- 51:00Speaker 5: that's the you know, that's the style that teams are
- 51:02Speaker 5: seeing successful now. I think that'll that will evolve. I
- 51:05Speaker 5: don't know if we'll ever go back to you know,
- 51:07Speaker 5: when I had to come play the Nicks in the
- 51:09Speaker 5: garden and like it was like Oakley and Mason and
- 51:11Speaker 5: charl Smith. I don't know we won't to ever go
- 51:13Speaker 5: back to that.
- 51:14Speaker 4: But you know, I think I think your game would
- 51:19Speaker 4: have translated. I think so I knowing your game, like
- 51:21Speaker 4: I feel like, yeah, there's a Tim Duncan, but your
- 51:24Speaker 4: game wasn't really Tim Duncan. You were almost like a
- 51:26Speaker 4: face up for in a sense where if you had
- 51:28Speaker 4: to step back, I feel like Brook Lopez was a
- 51:32Speaker 4: post up man that now shoots more threes than anybody
- 51:34Speaker 4: on outside of the days you work.
- 51:36Speaker 5: On those, like you're gonna like I didn't shoot a
- 51:40Speaker 5: lot through but I would have worked you know, in
- 51:41Speaker 5: this era, I would have worked on more, would have
- 51:43Speaker 5: been more empowered to shoot them, you know, the coaches
- 51:45Speaker 5: would increase it. I would have felt better about Yeah.
- 51:48Speaker 5: So yeah, but I think like all of that comes
- 51:53Speaker 5: in and you know, kind of waves and I think
- 51:56Speaker 5: we'll see, you know, at some point, based on like
- 51:59Speaker 5: the talent and the players.
- 52:00Speaker 4: You see, you're gonna see a different way the game
- 52:02Speaker 4: is played. I think there's another evolution that's happening, and
- 52:05Speaker 4: maybe most people are n't aware of his players that
- 52:08Speaker 4: are now in the exact position when we talk about
- 52:10Speaker 4: you know, we just sat down with Andre Goodala and
- 52:12Speaker 4: now at the NBA, NBA PA, Joe Dumars is here
- 52:15Speaker 4: at the league. You're here talk about that evolution of
- 52:18Speaker 4: guys now stepping in exact roles. You know, Adam Silver
- 52:21Speaker 4: probably you know, he won't be running the NBA forever, right,
- 52:24Speaker 4: So now we've got guys and training that elite that's
- 52:27Speaker 4: dominated by people looking like us can now be run
- 52:30Speaker 4: by people that look.
- 52:31Speaker 5: I mean, I'll go even like beyond like beyond that.
- 52:35Speaker 5: I think that's a nice thing where you see, you know,
- 52:39Speaker 5: I came up where you know, it was a Joe
- 52:41Speaker 5: Dumars running the team and a Billy Knight running the
- 52:44Speaker 5: team and Stuve Jackson. So like, you know what we've
- 52:47Speaker 5: seen that Like what we see now with guys, I
- 52:50Speaker 5: think that's really exciting is like they're like business prowess,
- 52:54Speaker 5: you know, like Lebron the things that he's done, you know,
- 52:57Speaker 5: off the court, like he's you know, arguably the best
- 53:00Speaker 5: player ever, right, you know I say that the respect
- 53:05Speaker 5: you know, you don't think you don't think he's the best. Way,
- 53:07Speaker 5: I just always you know, like we didn't really get
- 53:11Speaker 5: to see Oscar. We didn't really get to see you know,
- 53:13Speaker 5: I saw Korean, but we didn't really get to see career.
- 53:15Speaker 5: So I always think of it like I don't want to. Uh,
- 53:19Speaker 5: my father, he taught me that. He's like you know,
- 53:21Speaker 5: for the fathers of So I don't.
- 53:23Speaker 4: Came into this league there was a man dominating. He
- 53:26Speaker 4: wants to be respectful of the people who think that
- 53:27Speaker 4: that man.
- 53:28Speaker 5: Yeah, so that's I mean. But the things that they're doing, Uh,
- 53:32Speaker 5: you know what magic is done in ownership. You know,
- 53:35Speaker 5: Michael Jordan has done ownership that we haven't. You know,
- 53:38Speaker 5: we hadn't witnessed that before. And I think seeing that,
- 53:41Speaker 5: in addition to you know, you have Andre leading the
- 53:46Speaker 5: Players Union now and you know guys you know, doing
- 53:49Speaker 5: things in different executive role, I think the combination of
- 53:53Speaker 5: those two is really powerful.
- 53:55Speaker 3: Yeah, well, thank you for your time, Thank you appreciate it,
- 53:59Speaker 3: and definitely excited about the power of the partnership for
- 54:03Speaker 3: eyre coming coming for the chip.
- 54:06Speaker 4: Well, I'm thinking even bigger. I'm thinking, you know, there's
- 54:08Speaker 4: a Phoenix team that's coming potentially. There you go. You're
- 54:11Speaker 4: talking about ownership. I know, I know some guys. There
- 54:15Speaker 4: you go.
- 54:16Speaker 5: You connect you with the sun, and that's something to it.
- 54:18Speaker 4: I'll go up to the eighteenth floor. We can talk
- 54:20Speaker 4: about the Vegas team. We can talk about the Seattle
- 54:22Speaker 4: team too.
- 54:22Speaker 3: All right, Seattle, Seattle, if we come, so will come?
- 54:27Speaker 3: All right, Thank you, appreciate it, thank you, thank you.

- 54:34Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 54:38Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 54:42Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 54:46Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 54:50Speaker 1: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christine Noman, the United States
- 54:53Speaker 1: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 54:58Speaker 1: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 55:02Speaker 1: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 55:05Speaker 1: are here illegally, your next you will be fine. Nearly
- 55:09Speaker 1: one thousand dollars a day. Imprisoned and deported, you will
- 55:13Speaker 1: never return. But if you register using our CBP home
- 55:17Speaker 1: app and leave now, you could be allowed to return legally.
- 55:20Speaker 1: Do what's right. Leave now. Under President Trump America's laws,
- 55:25Speaker 1: border and families will be protected.
