- 2:53Speaker 4: they'll be fun. They'll they'll be snacks. You said, there's nothing.
- 2:56Speaker 2: There's nothing. Ryan was in charge of snacks. Horrible he failed, horrible,

- 3:06Speaker 2: of course, ninety eights of the Mouth. It will be
- 3:08Speaker 2: live that night at five Street. More than that coming
- 3:09Speaker 2: up a little later on. Who's this cast of characters
- 3:11Speaker 2: you have?
- 3:11Speaker 4: I have Adam here from Mountain Stage and John Q
- 3:14Speaker 4: from Fife. So it's kind of a party. We have
- 3:17Speaker 4: a party going on every Thursday we're down there. Actually,
- 3:20Speaker 4: Fife is a great place just to go anyway. However,
- 3:23Speaker 4: tonight tonight is the night Mountain Stage invades Fife Street
- 3:27Speaker 4: with me.
- 3:27Speaker 2: All right, Adam Harris from Mountain Stage. He's he's no
- 3:31Speaker 2: stranger to the show. He's been on many many times
- 3:33Speaker 2: ya Bucks probably probably among other things, among other things.
- 3:37Speaker 2: All right, so Adam from Mountain Stage.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Good morning, how you doing man?
- 3:40Speaker 6: Well, good man Lea the Mountain meets Mountain Stage tonight
- 3:43Speaker 6: at five Street Brewery, first time ever.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yeah so and John Q from five Streets here, how
- 3:48Speaker 2: you doing man?
- 3:49Speaker 1: Great?
- 3:49Speaker 2: Good morning gentlemen. You're well, that's that's that's a bit
- 3:53Speaker 2: of us.
- 3:53Speaker 5: He was talking to me.
- 3:54Speaker 2: That's a bit of a stretch. So before we talk
- 3:58Speaker 2: about how what's gonna happen with out and mety Mountain Stage, John,
- 4:01Speaker 2: you want to talk about it for people that don't know,
- 4:03Speaker 2: tell us about five straight now, man, Yeah, what's the
- 4:04Speaker 2: whole what's the mission statement? As they say, Yeah.
- 4:07Speaker 7: To provide great beer, great food for our friends and
- 4:10Speaker 7: neighbors downtown and make sure we have a space for
- 4:12Speaker 7: the community. It doesn't get much more community based than
- 4:15Speaker 7: having Mountain Stage and ninety eight point seven the Mountain
- 4:17Speaker 7: at Fife on the same night.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yes.
- 4:20Speaker 2: So, how long has five Street been open? About three
- 4:22Speaker 2: and a half years. May is going to be our
- 4:23Speaker 2: fourth birthday. What led you to want to open this place?
- 4:28Speaker 7: Well, I had four great partners from the area, Derek
- 4:30Speaker 7: and Lisa Godwin, Jody Drags, Josh Dodd. All had a
- 4:34Speaker 7: very clear vision of what they wanted to build. They
- 4:36Speaker 7: just needed somebody on the food and beer side. They
- 4:38Speaker 7: brought me in. We've had an incredible three and a
- 4:41Speaker 7: half years. It's been a blast.
- 4:42Speaker 2: All right. Now we talk about the beer in a moment,
- 4:44Speaker 2: I want to talk about the food. What are some
- 4:45Speaker 2: of the specialty food items you get there?
- 4:47Speaker 7: Yes, we do elevated grilled cheese. You got twelve different
- 4:50Speaker 7: kinds of grilled cheese on the menu right now, Yes,
- 4:52Speaker 7: twelve different kinds, Yes, sir. What's the most exotic? One
- 4:55Speaker 7: of the twelve, most exhaustion most exotic?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Probably the crab Rangoon crab ran goodon grilled cheese.
- 5:01Speaker 5: Yep, Okay, Dave's eyebrows just went off his head.
- 5:04Speaker 2: You had me at both crabrand gooon and grilled cheese. Yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 2: they they Saint your Mammall's grilled cheese.
- 5:10Speaker 7: Yeah, that one has a cultish following. People get stuck
- 5:13Speaker 7: on that one.
- 5:13Speaker 5: What would you say is the most popular one?
- 5:15Speaker 2: Black Friday, Friday Friday? Yeah, Turkey, spinach, cranberry mayo. Wow. Nice,
- 5:22Speaker 2: nice talk about the beer selection you have down there.
- 5:24Speaker 7: Yeah, twelve fresh local beers. Doesn't get any more fresh
- 5:28Speaker 7: than that. Home to animal Ale, that's right, one of
- 5:32Speaker 7: the only loggers we've ever made. We're kind of an
- 5:33Speaker 7: ale place. Loggers take a little longer, but animal Ale
- 5:37Speaker 7: one of the slowest to make and one of the
- 5:38Speaker 7: quickest to sell.
- 5:40Speaker 2: The first Steve Animals one of the slowest.
- 5:46Speaker 5: The odds he drinks fast.
- 5:48Speaker 2: All right, all right, So let's talk about this, what's
- 5:51Speaker 2: going to happen? I mean, as I said, you know,
- 5:53Speaker 2: a couple of times a month, we're down at five Street,
- 5:56Speaker 2: you know, broadcasting live for Thursday Thursday, we call it
- 5:59Speaker 2: with the Mountain But why the partnership with Mountain Stage.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Exactly what are you gonna be doing down? What are
- 6:04Speaker 2: you gonna be doing?
- 6:05Speaker 6: So, yeah, we reached out to John just because, you know,
- 6:07Speaker 6: looking to get the word out about Mountain Stage. We've
- 6:09Speaker 6: got like eleven shows on stale right now, most of
- 6:11Speaker 6: them are in the Charleston area, and so just working
- 6:13Speaker 6: to get in front of the people in a way
- 6:15Speaker 6: that is not a sponsored Facebook post. And so we
- 6:19Speaker 6: wanted to be out in the community, help bring some
- 6:21Speaker 6: people into five because January is typically a slow month
- 6:24Speaker 6: in the restaurant business. And so we reached out to
- 6:26Speaker 6: John Q. We got John Ingram and friends. Our friend
- 6:29Speaker 6: John who works at Mountain Stage. An incredible bassist. A
- 6:32Speaker 6: lot of people know him from the Bob Thompson band,
- 6:34Speaker 6: member of Fletcher's Grove. He's done tons of great tributes
- 6:36Speaker 6: here in town, including at Live on the Levee. And
- 6:38Speaker 6: so John is bringing Bud Carroll and guitar Jordan price
- 6:41Speaker 6: is on keyboards, and of course, since it's John Ingram
- 6:44Speaker 6: and friends, you never know who's going to stop in
- 6:46Speaker 6: and jam. Or we've invited the Mountain Stage band Larry
- 6:48Speaker 6: Gross I think is going to make his way down
- 6:50Speaker 6: Nice for a chance to, you know, just meet and
- 6:53Speaker 6: greet with the public, and then we're going to share
- 6:55Speaker 6: some of the info in our live shows.
- 6:56Speaker 5: We do a couple giveaways.
- 6:58Speaker 6: We've got some merchandise available as well, and we're running
- 7:01Speaker 6: a deal on our twenty twenty six calendars.
- 7:03Speaker 5: So if you don't have your desk calendar yet for
- 7:04Speaker 5: this year, we're gonna have an opportunity for you.
- 7:06Speaker 2: All right, talk about some of the upcoming shows you
- 7:08Speaker 2: haven't mount oh Man.
- 7:09Speaker 6: Well, this weekend we're in Morgantown with Don Was who
- 7:12Speaker 6: was a collaborator with Bob Weir. We're in for a
- 7:13Speaker 6: very special show this weekend, and then this next to.
- 7:17Speaker 2: The we just lost last week.
- 7:19Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, and then our first show home is on
- 7:24Speaker 6: January twenty fifth. Really cool Nashville songwriter called Cam who
- 7:28Speaker 6: had a couple of songs that were co writes on
- 7:31Speaker 6: the Beyonce Country album that came out a couple of
- 7:33Speaker 6: years ago. She's a wonderful singer and songwriter. Also Peter
- 7:37Speaker 6: Bradley Adams, Jill Andrews from down in Nashville, and a
- 7:39Speaker 6: West Virginia songwriter called Darren Hackward is going to be
- 7:42Speaker 6: on the show. That's all the twenty fifth of January
- 7:46Speaker 6: and then February fifteenth, we have a show and we're
- 7:47Speaker 6: going to actually do a giveaway tonight at Fife Street Brewing.
- 7:50Speaker 6: We're gonna if you sign up for our email list,
- 7:52Speaker 6: one lucky winner is going to get a gift certificate,
- 7:54Speaker 6: I believe for like the Valentine's Day dinner at Fife
- 7:57Speaker 6: on Saturday, and then come to tickets, they get tickets
- 7:59Speaker 6: to come to Mountain Stage Sunday the fifteenth.
- 8:02Speaker 5: So we're gonna do a Valentine's weekend giveaway.
- 8:04Speaker 2: All right, talk about Adam. What you know, Mountain Stage
- 8:08Speaker 2: has been around for a long time and it is
- 8:10Speaker 2: a true gem to West Virginia and we've taken to
- 8:13Speaker 2: I mean taken to the nation, taken to the world,
- 8:16Speaker 2: but there's a lot of people in West Virginia that
- 8:17Speaker 2: may not have actually taken in that's true stage show.
- 8:21Speaker 2: And the thing about what I'll say about Mountain stages.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Is there are no matter what your type of music is,
- 8:29Speaker 2: it's been done at some point at Mountain Stage. Is
- 8:32Speaker 2: there any type of any genre music that you can
- 8:35Speaker 2: think of in your time? They are even you know,
- 8:37Speaker 2: preceding you that you can think of that's not been
- 8:39Speaker 2: done a Mountain Well.
- 8:40Speaker 6: I mean, we have not done a ton of hip
- 8:41Speaker 6: hop or rap on the show, although we did bring
- 8:43Speaker 6: Galactic on, which is like a New Orleans funk band
- 8:46Speaker 6: I know John is very familiar with but they brought
- 8:48Speaker 6: MC life with them and he rapped on a few songs,
- 8:51Speaker 6: and so that was that was a big thing for us.
- 8:53Speaker 6: But yeah, generally, you'd be hard pressed to look at
- 8:55Speaker 6: the cannon of American music of the last thirty or
- 8:58Speaker 6: forty years and not see someone on the list of
- 9:00Speaker 6: Mountain Stage. I mean, there's a few who haven't graced
- 9:02Speaker 6: our stage, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell,
- 9:06Speaker 6: but a lot of people of that ilk have been
- 9:08Speaker 6: on the show over the years, and of course Larry
- 9:11Speaker 6: Gross was the co founder and the host for all
- 9:13Speaker 6: those years. This is our forty third season of Mountain Stage. Yeah,
- 9:17Speaker 6: and you know what, we've received support from the legislature
- 9:20Speaker 6: all of those years. We do have a line item
- 9:22Speaker 6: in the state's budget to help us continue to do
- 9:24Speaker 6: Mountain Stage, and I hope that support's going to continue
- 9:27Speaker 6: into twenty twenty six. But yeah, So we record a
- 9:30Speaker 6: radio show in front of a ticketed audience, and so
- 9:32Speaker 6: a lot of people in Charleston sometimes it's something they
- 9:34Speaker 6: go to. But around the country it's on two hundred
- 9:37Speaker 6: and seventy public radio stations, so most of the people
- 9:39Speaker 6: in the world think of it as something that they
- 9:41Speaker 6: can hear on the radio. And then every week we
- 9:43Speaker 6: have people traveling from all over the country. I think
- 9:46Speaker 6: about twenty five percent of our traffic comes from outside
- 9:49Speaker 6: the state of West Virginia of our ticket sales, and
- 9:51Speaker 6: people come here to see the thing that they've only
- 9:53Speaker 6: listened to on the radio.
- 9:54Speaker 5: So it's a wonderful driver for tourism.
- 9:56Speaker 2: It is it is, and it brings a lot of money.
- 9:59Speaker 2: And I know that may not have been the initial
- 10:01Speaker 2: driver behind why this thing was created all those years ago. However, however,
- 10:05Speaker 2: it's an added benefit because it brings a lot of
- 10:07Speaker 2: money into the Charleston air and into West Virginia. But
- 10:10Speaker 2: Dave Island Show on five. Eedy Live is broad to You,
- 10:11Speaker 2: a part about Live Healthy West Virginia presented by WVU Madison,
- 10:14Speaker 2: a podcast promoting healthier lifestyles than to be on the state.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Check out of latest episodes wv metronews dot com. Unto
- 10:20Speaker 2: the podcast menu, Animal had a text here for you
- 10:23Speaker 2: that so so animal Ale is a logger and maybe
- 10:25Speaker 2: John youwant animal doesn't know what it is. He just
- 10:28Speaker 2: knows that it tastes good, So it is a lagger.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Is it is a logger? Yeah?
- 10:31Speaker 7: And the hundreds and hundreds of styles of beer there's
- 10:33Speaker 7: really can come down to two categories, ales and loggers.
- 10:35Speaker 7: It depends on the kind of yeast used. Ales are
- 10:38Speaker 7: just a much quicker style. We have a relatively small brewery,
- 10:41Speaker 7: so we almost exclusively make ales.
- 10:43Speaker 4: It's a Marsin by the way, Okay, very nice beer.
- 10:47Speaker 4: How long does it take to make beer? I mean,
- 10:49Speaker 4: I know absolutely nothing about it other than drinking it.
- 10:52Speaker 4: So exactly how long does it take to make our beer?
- 10:56Speaker 7: A batch of our beer is anywhere from twenty five
- 10:58Speaker 7: to thirty days, which is a really you know, relatively
- 11:01Speaker 7: quick styles. But most of your loggers, a lot of
- 11:04Speaker 7: your American light loggers, are more like months that takes
- 11:07Speaker 7: in the fermentation process.
- 11:09Speaker 4: That's why animal ale is so special like me.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's aged like you age joke. It would
- 11:19Speaker 2: be as long as you're older than I am, you
- 11:21Speaker 2: will continue to get the age jokes. We're talking to
- 11:23Speaker 2: Steve Annibal, John Q and Adam Harris. I want to
- 11:27Speaker 2: ask you, Adam, and I don't want to get too
- 11:28Speaker 2: serious on this, because well we've been not you and
- 11:30Speaker 2: I are never serious.
- 11:31Speaker 1: But but and I.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Don't want to turn it political either, But but I
- 11:34Speaker 2: do want to say there have been a lot of
- 11:36Speaker 2: concerns out of the nation's capital because of cuts and
- 11:40Speaker 2: things of that nature. It has Mountain Stage been impacted
- 11:42Speaker 2: by that or do you anticipate you will be.
- 11:44Speaker 6: That's a great question, and thank you for asking, and
- 11:47Speaker 6: I'll try to speak within my means and my authority.
- 11:50Speaker 6: But yeah, there were some cuts to the Corporation for
- 11:53Speaker 6: Public Broadcasting, which brings you, you know, helps fund a
- 11:56Speaker 6: lot of the shows that you think of as being
- 11:58Speaker 6: from PBS and also from n p R. Mountain Stage
- 12:02Speaker 6: does not get CPB money directly. West Virginia Public Broadcasting
- 12:06Speaker 6: does or did, but we didn't receive funding directly from them. However,
- 12:11Speaker 6: the stations that carry Mountain Stage use CPB money to
- 12:15Speaker 6: pay for programs like hours, and so it affects our
- 12:17Speaker 6: stations that carry the show. And as I mentioned, there's
- 12:19Speaker 6: two hundred and seventy or so, and so the good
- 12:22Speaker 6: news is NPR came up with a package for the
- 12:25Speaker 6: stations to They gave reduced fees as long as they
- 12:29Speaker 6: maintained their current programming, and so instead of having a
- 12:33Speaker 6: sharp drop off in stations, which may have had to
- 12:35Speaker 6: happen for those that were more financially strained, they were
- 12:39Speaker 6: able to accept a lower rate as long as they
- 12:41Speaker 6: keep carrying the program. And so MPR really helped prevent
- 12:44Speaker 6: a possible drop off in stations for us in that regard,
- 12:47Speaker 6: and I'm really glad they did because that was my
- 12:48Speaker 6: number one fear is that Mountain Stage would be a
- 12:51Speaker 6: first priority to cut just because we're a music show
- 12:53Speaker 6: where two hours you can get a volunteer to come
- 12:55Speaker 6: in and maybe play rect needle drop music for two
- 12:58Speaker 6: hours and save that money. But thankfully we have maintained
- 13:03Speaker 6: all our carriage and I hope that's going to continue.
- 13:05Speaker 6: We signed a new three year deal with NPR for distribution.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 13:08Speaker 5: Yeah, and that was another thing I was really encouraged by.
- 13:10Speaker 5: And so they like what Mountain.
- 13:11Speaker 6: Stage does for them, which is diversifies the programming that
- 13:13Speaker 6: they offer. And as you mentioned, we've had every style
- 13:15Speaker 6: of music that you can have, and if you don't
- 13:17Speaker 6: like something on Mountain Stage, tune in fifteen minutes later
- 13:19Speaker 6: you're going to hear something different, you know. And I
- 13:21Speaker 6: think that's that formula has served us very well.
- 13:23Speaker 2: All right, So back to the animal, Ale says, so
- 13:26Speaker 2: why call it an ale if it's a logger for
- 13:28Speaker 2: the alliteration?
- 13:29Speaker 5: Come on, people, the alliteration. Yeah, animal marketing not a solution,
- 13:33Speaker 5: that's right.
- 13:34Speaker 2: We're trying to get buttson sins here soon, ye all right?
- 13:37Speaker 2: And it kicked all right. So you'll start at six
- 13:39Speaker 2: o'clock tonight with the live broadcast on ninety eight seven
- 13:41Speaker 2: a month and wild a wonderful classic rock and Adam John,
- 13:43Speaker 2: you guys are going to be down there, and again
- 13:45Speaker 2: it's going to be big old jam session. John Ingram
- 13:48Speaker 2: is going to be there, maybe some others in there
- 13:50Speaker 2: as well. And that's as a and as listeners hear
- 13:52Speaker 2: me say this all the time, guys, As a non musician,
- 13:55Speaker 2: there is nothing that I like more than a good
- 13:57Speaker 2: jam session. Definitely, I just set back. I can't even clasp,
- 14:00Speaker 2: but I just set back. And when I did the
- 14:01Speaker 2: Jewish Christmas Spectacular, you know last month with Pushkin, I
- 14:04Speaker 2: had to aim a steel band in here and Alaysha
- 14:07Speaker 2: was in here joining in, and I added nothing to
- 14:10Speaker 2: the program other than the sexiness and charm to just
- 14:14Speaker 2: set to, just set back here and go. Man. I
- 14:16Speaker 2: like that, you know when people just set around a jam.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I love it.
- 14:19Speaker 5: Nothing like live music.
- 14:20Speaker 6: I mean, just being in the room when it's being
- 14:22Speaker 6: played is way different than hearing it on the radio
- 14:24Speaker 6: or listening to it, god forbid on the little speakers
- 14:26Speaker 6: of your phone. You know, like being in the room
- 14:28Speaker 6: with the people who are making the music and experiencing

- 18:47Speaker 2: Welcome to the show.
- 18:49Speaker 11: Good morning, Dave. Thanks so much for having me.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. And I know you rearrange
- 18:53Speaker 2: some things on your schedule today to be able to

- 19:00Speaker 11: Hey, listen, I won't rearrange anything anything you need, Dave,
- 19:03Speaker 11: I'm here for you, but I appreciate the opportunity to
- 19:05Speaker 11: come on today. So I was more than happy. I'm
- 19:07Speaker 11: actually in a meeting right now, stuck out, and I said,
- 19:10Speaker 11: I'll be back. I gotta I gotta talk to my brother.
- 19:12Speaker 12: Dave.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Well, I appreciate it. So all right, before we get
- 19:15Speaker 2: to the dinner, I want to haven't had you on
- 19:17Speaker 2: the show, And while what's what's making news in Putnam
- 19:20Speaker 2: County these days? I know we've got an influx of
- 19:22Speaker 2: people moving in and business is opening up and so
- 19:24Speaker 2: on and so forth. Can give us stay overall on
- 19:26Speaker 2: Puttnam these days?
- 19:27Speaker 11: Yeah, we do. We've got a lot. We've got a
- 19:29Speaker 11: lot of new small businesses popping up. You'll you'll see
- 19:33Speaker 11: some new bakery in the area, Sugar Maples, So if
- 19:36Speaker 11: you're looking for a sweet treat, we've got that. In
- 19:40Speaker 11: some of our larger retail spaces, you'll see some National
- 19:45Speaker 11: stores going in side below. Things like that are going
- 19:48Speaker 11: to be opening up pretty soon. So we've got a
- 19:50Speaker 11: lot of stuff going on, and I think over the
- 19:52Speaker 11: next year you'll see some great new additions to the
- 19:55Speaker 11: valley as well.
- 19:56Speaker 2: All Right, Puttingham is the place to be, all right,
- 19:59Speaker 2: so let's talk about give us the date and tell
- 20:02Speaker 2: us what's going to go on there and tickets and
- 20:03Speaker 2: so on and so forth.
- 20:05Speaker 11: Yeah, we are thrilled. They are annual dinner is always
- 20:08Speaker 11: one of our most favorite events that we host. Is
- 20:12Speaker 11: the largest networking event here in Putnam County. It is
- 20:14Speaker 11: going to be held on January thirtieth at Valley Park.
- 20:18Speaker 11: We are so thrilled to be able to have that
- 20:20Speaker 11: evening to celebrate all the great successes of our chamber members.
- 20:24Speaker 11: We're over five hundred members now strong and so having
- 20:27Speaker 11: that opportunity to celebrate our business community is great. We'll
- 20:30Speaker 11: also be given away our Mayle Lester Community Service Award
- 20:33Speaker 11: that day as well as our Putnam Crew Young Leader
- 20:35Speaker 11: Award and tickets are available as well as sponsorships. Tickets
- 20:39Speaker 11: are one hundred and fifty dollars per person and you
- 20:41Speaker 11: can purchase them on the Chambers website. Or if you
- 20:44Speaker 11: are interested in sponsoring and want to be a part
- 20:46Speaker 11: of that celebration in that capacity, you just give us
- 20:51Speaker 11: a call out to office and we'll get you set.
- 20:52Speaker 8: Up with that.
- 20:54Speaker 2: What is the deadline if somebody wants to be a sponsor?
- 20:57Speaker 2: Because I know the date's coming up, and you got
- 20:59Speaker 2: signage and programs and things of that nature so to
- 21:02Speaker 2: contend with. So what would be the absolute drop dead
- 21:06Speaker 2: time for if somebody wants to be a sponsor?
- 21:08Speaker 11: If you want to be a sponsor, I'd love to
- 21:10Speaker 11: have it today or tomorrow, but I can take it
- 21:13Speaker 11: up until Wednesday of next week.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Okay, it's on Wednesday of next week. What about for
- 21:17Speaker 2: tickets for sponsor? And the reason I said bring this
- 21:19Speaker 2: up about tickets because as you said, I attend the
- 21:21Speaker 2: dinner every year and half for like the last you know,
- 21:24Speaker 2: ten eleven years or so ever since I've lived in
- 21:26Speaker 2: Putnham County, and I mean it sells out. I mean
- 21:29Speaker 2: there's not a seat to be had.
- 21:31Speaker 11: Yeah, that's true, there is not a seat to be had.
- 21:34Speaker 11: We do still have some options though, a lot of
- 21:35Speaker 11: people like to get their tickets this week and next week.
- 21:38Speaker 11: So the ticket deadline is next Friday, So a week
- 21:41Speaker 11: from tomorrow.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Now you got mine taking care.
- 21:43Speaker 11: Of right, You're all good. You're on the list.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I'm on the like the waiting list. Or so I
- 21:48Speaker 2: want to talk about this. I want to talk to
- 21:50Speaker 2: this Mail Leicester award that you give. That's like the
- 21:53Speaker 2: top award that somebody in Putnham County can get. Who
- 21:56Speaker 2: was Mail Lester.
- 21:58Speaker 11: Mail Lester was one of the founding members of the
- 22:00Speaker 11: Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, and he was so influential
- 22:03Speaker 11: in our business community back in the late seventies and
- 22:06Speaker 11: early eighties when the chamber started. And so that is
- 22:10Speaker 11: he was, you know, the epitome of a community minded
- 22:14Speaker 11: chamber member, a community you know leader, and so he
- 22:18Speaker 11: he was one of the founding members of the Chamber.
- 22:20Speaker 11: And so every year we honor him by giving out
- 22:23Speaker 11: a by giving out a Community Service Award in his honor.
- 22:27Speaker 11: And yes, it is the top award you can get
- 22:29Speaker 11: in Putnam County for the business community. And so if
- 22:33Speaker 11: you we are still taking nominations for that until tomorrow.
- 22:37Speaker 11: So if you would like to nominate somebody, you just
- 22:41Speaker 11: shoot me an email or give me a call and
- 22:43Speaker 11: I'll let you know how to make that nomination.
- 22:47Speaker 2: And one of the things I love and you we're
- 22:48Speaker 2: talking with Ashley offered Glances from the Putnam County Chamber
- 22:51Speaker 2: of Commerce. One thing that I really really love about
- 22:52Speaker 2: what you folks do there is that you always celebrate
- 22:56Speaker 2: young people, young entrepreneurs, young folks that are doing good
- 23:00Speaker 2: things in the community because sometimes, you know, when you
- 23:02Speaker 2: think about events like this, it can kind of be
- 23:05Speaker 2: like me an old person kind of a thing. So
- 23:07Speaker 2: you guys go above and beyond to celebrate young leaders
- 23:10Speaker 2: in Putnam County. Talk about that we do.
- 23:13Speaker 6: So.
- 23:13Speaker 11: We have a young professionals group called Putnam Crew. It
- 23:16Speaker 11: was previously known as Generation Putnam and one of the
- 23:19Speaker 11: things that we did many many years ago was create
- 23:24Speaker 11: an award to recognize some of our young and rising
- 23:28Speaker 11: leaders in the community. We know that, you know, Putnam
- 23:30Speaker 11: County is a great place to live, to work, and
- 23:32Speaker 11: to raise your family, and to show that we're investing
- 23:36Speaker 11: in folks when they're you know, just starting out in
- 23:38Speaker 11: their career. Really for the long term, mix them, you know,
- 23:42Speaker 11: shows who our future leaders are going to be. And
- 23:45Speaker 11: so every year, for the last I believe this is
- 23:47Speaker 11: that award is about twelve years old. Now we have
- 23:51Speaker 11: been acknowledging one of our young and rising leaders here
- 23:54Speaker 11: in Putnam County and so that list is filled with
- 23:57Speaker 11: some really great people that you still see in leadership
- 23:59Speaker 11: roles today.
- 24:00Speaker 2: That's good stuff, Ashley offered. Glance from the Putnam County
- 24:02Speaker 2: Chamber of Commerce is here? Or what about the entertainment?
- 24:04Speaker 2: That's always a big deal. I know sometimes you like
- 24:06Speaker 2: to try to keep it under wraps. So if that's
- 24:08Speaker 2: that's the case this year, I don't want to give
- 24:10Speaker 2: it too much away. But what can you tell us
- 24:12Speaker 2: about the entertainment.
- 24:12Speaker 11: I can tell you that you just need to be
- 24:14Speaker 11: ready to shake, rattle and roll.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Shake, rattle and roll. That's all you need to know,
- 24:18Speaker 2: right right, That's all you need to know. And because
- 24:20Speaker 2: I'm always interested in this, talk about the food.
- 24:23Speaker 11: Oh the food, Fireside Grill is going to be there again.
- 24:26Speaker 11: We're gonna have some delicious food. We haven't quite finalized
- 24:28Speaker 11: all all the menu items yet, but I can promise
- 24:31Speaker 11: you that you will.
- 24:33Speaker 2: You will love it all right again, give us your
- 24:35Speaker 2: phone number, website and all this stuff. Then we'll let
- 24:37Speaker 2: you get back to the meeting that you left hanging.
- 24:40Speaker 11: It's okay. They don't need me, you know. I'm just
- 24:42Speaker 11: there for the joke. Get to tell the jokes. The
- 24:45Speaker 11: phone number for the Chamber is three O four seven
- 24:48Speaker 11: six five one zero, or you can find out more
- 24:50Speaker 11: information on our website Putnam Chamber dot org.
- 24:53Speaker 2: All right, Ashley offered Glance, the executive director of the
- 24:56Speaker 2: Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. Get back to your meeting
- 24:58Speaker 2: and we'll talk soon. Thanks a lot, talk toon.
- 25:00Speaker 11: Thanks again for having me.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Have a great day, right you as well. Twenty eight
- 25:03Speaker 2: minutes away from Tampa, Day Island showing five dye line
- 25:05Speaker 2: is brought to you apart by Morgadi Morgan with more
- 25:08Speaker 2: than twenty billion dollars recovered. They believe that when you're injured,
- 25:10Speaker 2: you deserve more. Morgative Mortgan, America's largest injury law firm.
- 25:13Speaker 2: And I met that what I said, and talking about
- 25:15Speaker 2: the folks with the Putnam County Chamber, I love the
- 25:16Speaker 2: fact that there is an emphasis placed on younger folks there.
- 25:21Speaker 2: They have done that for some time. As she said,
- 25:24Speaker 2: I think for like the last twelve years or so
- 25:25Speaker 2: when they give a Young Leader award, And to be fair,
- 25:30Speaker 2: I think the folks in Charleston do a great job.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Charleston Airy Lights and other organizations such as that do
- 25:34Speaker 2: a great job as well getting younger people involved, because
- 25:37Speaker 2: I mean, let's face it, I'm old and we've got
- 25:40Speaker 2: to get young people involved in these organizations and in
- 25:43Speaker 2: the business community and as far as the businesses go.
- 25:45Speaker 2: As somebody who lives in the Day's Valley area, I
- 25:48Speaker 2: can tell you every time I turn around, there's a
- 25:49Speaker 2: new ribbon cutting for another business that's coming in. There's
- 25:54Speaker 2: some quality restaurants that are coming in. There's some national
- 25:57Speaker 2: chains that are coming in. It is a great, great mix. Again,
- 26:01Speaker 2: I kind of like to be the cheerleader, you know,
- 26:03Speaker 2: for Putnam County since I've lived there for the past.
- 26:06Speaker 3: See.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Next month will be Math, Dave Math. Next month will
- 26:10Speaker 2: be about twelve years I think, is that right, twelve, fourteen,
- 26:15Speaker 2: thirty or something like that. I don't know. But anyway,
- 26:18Speaker 2: they do a lot of great things at Putnam County.
- 26:19Speaker 2: It's a great place to be and it's not just
- 26:21Speaker 2: a bedroom community as a lot of people think. You know,
- 26:24Speaker 2: between Charleston and Huntington, there's a lot of exciting things
- 26:26Speaker 2: going on there, so do appreciate. Ashley offered glance from

- 27:56Speaker 2: And no he's not a Dallas cowboy. It's Jim McMahon.
- 28:00Speaker 2: And I remember Jim McMahon as a quarterback out a
- 28:03Speaker 2: BYU showed up at the Bears training camp with a
- 28:08Speaker 2: beer in his hand and a rubber skull and later
- 28:11Speaker 2: if he could have just stayed healthy, what a career
- 28:14Speaker 2: it could have been. And then he played for like
- 28:15Speaker 2: thirty other teams. It seems like in the NFL he
- 28:17Speaker 2: bounced around with the Eagles and the Vikings and the
- 28:19Speaker 2: Chargers that he was all over the place, but Jim
- 28:22Speaker 2: McMahon was a true, true character and ever since, you know,

- 32:31Speaker 2: at this time it socks. And the reason behind socks
- 32:34Speaker 2: is because what we have learned is is that the

- 33:56Speaker 2: fifty eight Tony the Taylor Text three zero four nine
- 33:59Speaker 2: to three five zero zero Texas Dave. I watched the
- 34:02Speaker 2: City of the State yesterday. You could go back several
- 34:05Speaker 2: years with different governors and basically the same speech. After
- 34:08Speaker 2: their terms are over the state. It's pretty much in
- 34:10Speaker 2: the shape as when they started. Tex says the Punky QB. Yeah,
- 34:16Speaker 2: that's Jim McMahon. He was known as the Punk. And
- 34:19Speaker 2: you know, I will watch a documentary. I've told you
- 34:22Speaker 2: this bore about myself. I will watch a documentary and
- 34:24Speaker 2: just about anybody, especially entertainment, you know where it's music, actors,
- 34:28Speaker 2: but especially sports. I live for the thirty for thirties
- 34:30Speaker 2: on ESPN, Things that Nature. I watched one a couple
- 34:33Speaker 2: of weeks ago and it was a few years old,
- 34:35Speaker 2: and it was about the making of the Super Bowl Shuffle.
- 34:38Speaker 2: That they did remember that song. The Bears had that
- 34:41Speaker 2: incredible run. They went fifteen to one of the nineteen
- 34:43Speaker 2: eighty five season, beat my Dallas Cowboys by the way
- 34:47Speaker 2: forty four to nothing on national television that year, went
- 34:50Speaker 2: on to beat the Patriots in the super Bowl in
- 34:52Speaker 2: January of nineteen eighty six. But they recorded the song
- 34:57Speaker 2: the Super Bowl Shuffle after they had gotten beaten for
- 35:01Speaker 2: their only loss of the season on Monday Night Football
- 35:04Speaker 2: by the Miami Dolphins. And if you ever get a
- 35:07Speaker 2: chance to watch the documentary on the making of the
- 35:10Speaker 2: Super Bowl Shuffle, it's fascinating. I mean it really really
- 35:14Speaker 2: is the way that they did it because none of
- 35:15Speaker 2: the very few people on the team could dance. And
- 35:19Speaker 2: not to spoil it if you decide to watch it,
- 35:21Speaker 2: but Jim McMahon and Walter Peyton did not want to
- 35:25Speaker 2: do it after they agreed to do it, but then
- 35:28Speaker 2: after the Bears lost that game, but they both said, hey,
- 35:32Speaker 2: we just got embarrassed on Monday Night football. We are
- 35:35Speaker 2: not going to do this. So the other guys talked
- 35:38Speaker 2: them into it and they actually had to be added later.
- 35:41Speaker 2: So if you watch the video of Super Bowl Shuffle,
- 35:44Speaker 2: and they did all that for charity for some I
- 35:46Speaker 2: think with some homeless organizations there in the Integrated Chicago
- 35:49Speaker 2: Land they did that. They did that video and it
- 35:53Speaker 2: was really fascinating because they actually added them later. Peyton
- 35:57Speaker 2: and McMahon were not there when they filmed it. So
- 36:00Speaker 2: I don't know whether Jim will get into that on
- 36:01Speaker 2: his interview with Carl Lee and Lisa and Hollis tonight
- 36:03Speaker 2: or not, but we'll check it out. You can catch
- 36:05Speaker 2: that interview with Jim mc mahon coming up the night
- 36:06Speaker 2: and Let's talk at seven o'clock. Texa's favorite Jim McMahon memory.
- 36:10Speaker 2: He backed up Brett Farv when when the Packers won
- 36:13Speaker 2: the Super Bowl the team was invited to the White House,
- 36:15Speaker 2: Jim showed up at his bears Jersey to meet the president.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I did not know that. I really get into the
- 36:22Speaker 2: Governor's speech coming up a little bit later on. I
- 36:25Speaker 2: do want to do something a little bit personal though
- 36:27Speaker 2: here for a moment. If you follow me on social media,
- 36:30Speaker 2: you know I'm pretty much an open book about things
- 36:33Speaker 2: in my life that's good and bad. Sometimes mostly on
- 36:36Speaker 2: my personal page. It's usually you know, food and sports
- 36:39Speaker 2: and things like that. But I do I got some
- 36:44Speaker 2: confirmation yesterday on a little bit of a health issue.
- 36:46Speaker 2: I had some concerns about I. I went for a
- 36:50Speaker 2: check up and doctor was concerned about my PSA level,
- 36:56Speaker 2: and for those of us in radio and television, PSA
- 36:58Speaker 2: means public service announcement. I said, hey, I've read, I've
- 37:01Speaker 2: read plenty of these, and they said, no, it's something
- 37:03Speaker 2: totally different. So they were concerned about it. They sent
- 37:06Speaker 2: me for a MRI, which I did a couple of
- 37:11Speaker 2: weeks ago, and then last week last Thursday, I was
- 37:14Speaker 2: away from the microphone here. Big shout out to Dale
- 37:18Speaker 2: Cooper who entered the local show, and then Jeff Jenkins
- 37:21Speaker 2: and Daniel Woods who handled the afternoon show. Because I
- 37:24Speaker 2: had to have a biopsy last week and was scheduled
- 37:27Speaker 2: to have an appointment to follow up with a doctor
- 37:30Speaker 2: next week. Well, they called me Tuesday night and they said,
- 37:32Speaker 2: we'd actually like you to come in sooner. And that
- 37:35Speaker 2: can be That can be one of two things if
- 37:37Speaker 2: you've ever gone through that. That can either be a
- 37:41Speaker 2: a don't we want to put in your mind at
- 37:44Speaker 2: ease it's all good, or be the opposite. Well, in
- 37:48Speaker 2: my particular case, and I met with the physician yesterday.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Big shout out to doctor Roger Robertson. It wasn't the
- 37:58Speaker 2: news that I wanted to hear. I was told yesterday,
- 38:03Speaker 2: got the definitive that it is cancer. The good news,
- 38:08Speaker 2: if there's good news and getting the cancer diagnosis, is
- 38:12Speaker 2: it's prostate cancer, which is one of the most treatable
- 38:15Speaker 2: cancers that there is. I've learned more about prostates ryan
- 38:19Speaker 2: in the last month than I ever wanted to know. Okay,
- 38:23Speaker 2: I can tell you that these statistics are if you
- 38:26Speaker 2: are a male, one in three males will get prostate cancer.
- 38:30Speaker 2: If they live long enough, it's pretty much gonna happen.
- 38:34Speaker 2: So I would say two people, get yourself checked. You know,
- 38:39Speaker 2: it's not always the most pleasant thing in the world,
- 38:41Speaker 2: but once you get to be a certain age used
- 38:43Speaker 2: to be that's said in your fifties. I'm fifty five now.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Probably should have had the checks done before then. I
- 38:54Speaker 2: don't know. You can you can play the game and
- 38:56Speaker 2: say what it could have should have. But I did
- 38:59Speaker 2: get the diagnosis yet they did tell me it's one
- 39:01Speaker 2: hundred percent I do have cancer. Okay. Now the next
- 39:05Speaker 2: question is where do we go from here?
- 39:07Speaker 3: Uh?
- 39:08Speaker 2: And well, next thing I get to do is called
- 39:10Speaker 2: a pet scan. You know I love pets, but that's
- 39:13Speaker 2: not really kind of scan I want to have, which basically,
- 39:16Speaker 2: from what they tell me, determines how far the cancer
- 39:18Speaker 2: has spread.
- 39:19Speaker 6: Uh.
- 39:20Speaker 2: If it's if it's localized or if it's spread. There
- 39:22Speaker 2: is a possibility either way.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Uh.
- 39:25Speaker 2: And then you know, as timely as today's headlines, as
- 39:28Speaker 2: David Letterman used to say, it comes to the news
- 39:29Speaker 2: a couple of days ago that Scott Adams, who was
- 39:32Speaker 2: the creator of the Dilbert cartoon series, diagnosed with prostate
- 39:38Speaker 2: cancer which spread to his bones and he died at
- 39:40Speaker 2: like sixty or something like that. That's just the one
- 39:43Speaker 2: thing that I wanted to hear on the evening news
- 39:46Speaker 2: the other night. But the thing you need to know
- 39:49Speaker 2: about me, and I think you've already figured this out
- 39:52Speaker 2: and listening to me on this show for the past,
- 39:54Speaker 2: it'll be this may be six years, and in radio
- 39:58Speaker 2: in thirty eight years. In general, I take absolutely nothing
- 40:01Speaker 2: too seriously, mainly myself. Ain't nobody ever going to make
- 40:07Speaker 2: fun of Dave Allen more than Dave Allen does. All Right,
- 40:09Speaker 2: I'll just tell you that straight up, and I'm gonna
- 40:14Speaker 2: tackle this with however, I need to tackle it. And
- 40:16Speaker 2: a lot of my great friends have come and said, look,
- 40:18Speaker 2: had the same thing I've got. I've got messages, I've
- 40:21Speaker 2: got text people say, hey, my dad had the same
- 40:23Speaker 2: thing I went through. My good friend Danny Jones, who's
- 40:25Speaker 2: on to showed me every Monday prostate cancer survivor. There's
- 40:29Speaker 2: a couple of other folks that are I don't won't
- 40:31Speaker 2: mention their name. Danny doesn't care, but there are a
- 40:35Speaker 2: lot of folks here in the area that have gone
- 40:37Speaker 2: through the same thing. So we'll just see what the
- 40:39Speaker 2: treatment is. That's that's kind of where we are from there,
- 40:42Speaker 2: as I said, and I'm not going to dwell on
- 40:44Speaker 2: this a whole lot. I just wanted to let people
- 40:46Speaker 2: know that that's where I am. So if I'm away
- 40:48Speaker 2: from the microphone from time to time, it's because I'm
- 40:51Speaker 2: getting something done, getting something looked at, you know, things
- 40:55Speaker 2: I don't want to have looked at, looked at basically,
- 40:57Speaker 2: but you know, hashtag Logan County strong. And I got this.
- 41:02Speaker 2: And I got a great wife at home who went
- 41:05Speaker 2: with me yesterday and set with the doctor with me.
- 41:09Speaker 2: I got a great support staff here. I've got great
- 41:11Speaker 2: friends like Steve Animal and Robbriel who are going to
- 41:13Speaker 2: make fun of me no matter what and are going
- 41:15Speaker 2: to use every opportunity that they can to kidney about this,
- 41:19Speaker 2: which is exactly what I want. By the way, I've
- 41:22Speaker 2: had a lot of people that have come out in
- 41:23Speaker 2: the last twenty four hours, actually less than that, and
- 41:26Speaker 2: you know, with a lot of heartfelt wish and I
- 41:27Speaker 2: appreciate all that, but you know, I kind of I
- 41:30Speaker 2: kind of like the funnier things, so you know, make
- 41:33Speaker 2: fun of me. I don't care. I don't care. We
- 41:35Speaker 2: got this hashtag Logan County s Trump, I keep you

- 41:45Speaker 2: Your career starts here. Tex says. We had nothing better
- 41:49Speaker 2: to do. We kept a tally sheet on Governor's speech
- 41:52Speaker 2: last night. He only mentioned Trump's name about seven times.
- 41:56Speaker 2: If he had mentioned him more than ten and a
- 41:59Speaker 2: half hour, We're change channels. It's a tester, you know.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I had a text to the Midday Show yesterday where
- 42:07Speaker 2: somebody said they were going to do a drinking game,
- 42:10Speaker 2: and the number of times that Patrick Morrisey mentioned the
- 42:12Speaker 2: term Trump. They were going to do a shot, and
- 42:15Speaker 2: the texture said they'd be totally out of it by
- 42:17Speaker 2: like seven fifteen. I watched the entire speech. There were
- 42:21Speaker 2: a couple of Trump references. I don't think they were
- 42:22Speaker 2: that early on though. And I did not like this
- 42:25Speaker 2: person did I did not keep I did not keep it.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Tally text says, if you don't mind saying, what made
- 42:31Speaker 2: you get checked? I don't know what makes you go
- 42:35Speaker 2: other than an annual checkup. Did you have some kind
- 42:37Speaker 2: of symptoms? No, no symptoms whatsoever. Went for an annual checkup,
- 42:41Speaker 2: just just with my general practitioner, and they sent me
- 42:45Speaker 2: for what they did the blood work there. No, I
- 42:48Speaker 2: have no symptoms whatsoever. I can tell you that you
- 42:53Speaker 2: can have an enlarge prostate and not have prostate cancer,
- 42:57Speaker 2: and you can have prostate cancer and not have it
- 42:59Speaker 2: large part I do. I have learned that. And when
- 43:02Speaker 2: you have the enlarge prostate, that's when you have the symptoms.
- 43:05Speaker 2: You know, the urination issues and you know difficulty. I

- 46:18Speaker 2: See dealer for details. James wants to weigh in on
- 46:20Speaker 2: the Governor's speech last night good Morning You're on the air.
- 46:23Speaker 16: Good morning only speech last night. He said he wants
- 46:26Speaker 16: to give all the state employees a three percent rate increase?
- 46:30Speaker 16: Does that include the teachers also three.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Percent pay raise? And I would presume that, yes, that
- 46:36Speaker 2: would be all state employees. That's the way that I
- 46:39Speaker 2: understand him.
- 46:40Speaker 16: That's what I thought. That I thought to you, but
- 46:42Speaker 16: I just wanted to see what you said.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I mean.
- 46:45Speaker 16: We'll be thinking about.
- 46:46Speaker 13: You bet all right.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Appreciate you, James, Thanks a lot, uh, Tex says Dave.
- 46:49Speaker 2: On a lighter note, As the mayor of tays Valley,
- 46:51Speaker 2: how do you feel about the West Virginia Bureau of
- 46:53Speaker 2: Business and Development basically calling Tayes Valleys growth overrated and overhyped. Well,
- 46:57Speaker 2: I appreciate it. Referring to a Deskins there, you know,
- 47:03Speaker 2: that's John, smart guy. Smart guy. I live there though,
- 47:06Speaker 2: and I know what I see, and I see the
- 47:09Speaker 2: U hauls. Appreciate Tex, says Florida guy Dave. Good luck man.
- 47:12Speaker 2: As a retired flight medic, remember it's easily treatable, easily defeatable.
- 47:15Speaker 2: That's the way I am looking at him. Tex says, dude,
- 47:18Speaker 2: you're the man. You came here to chew bubble gum
- 47:20Speaker 2: and kick cancer's ass, and you're all out of bubblegum
- 47:22Speaker 2: appreciate it. Uh tex says Morrison wants to be Trump
- 47:25Speaker 2: so bad, so obvious that he kisses the ring. I
- 47:28Speaker 2: know he's hoping so bad Trump was watching. Trump could
- 47:30Speaker 2: care less, says the Texter. A couple of guys that
- 47:33Speaker 2: always care about everything. Wilson and Meadows live at the
- 47:37Speaker 2: State Capitol, gearing up for another talk line, which comes
- 47:39Speaker 2: your way at ten o six morning Fellers mourning David.
- 47:44Speaker 2: All Right, all right, somebody, somebody in the company told
- 47:47Speaker 2: me that Wilson refer to you as Minor Dave. It's like,
- 47:50Speaker 2: I guess I'm major Dave in your minor Dave. Who
- 47:52Speaker 2: said that? I don't know, but his name rhymes with
- 47:56Speaker 2: John Holford.
- 47:58Speaker 13: Uh, well that makes sense coming from how well.
- 48:01Speaker 2: I mean, look, I am guessing that makes me major Dave.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Maybe it's Dave Weekly that's major Dave. Now that is
- 48:08Speaker 2: very pause Dave Jacklin, you.
- 48:09Speaker 18: Know, because well that's not Dave Jacquelin. We know that,
- 48:12Speaker 18: all right, possibly Dave. I mean he has been around
- 48:15Speaker 18: longer than both of us.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true, Big d and Little d Which one?
- 48:21Speaker 2: Which one's we don't know which? Okay, I'm no, no, no,
- 48:26Speaker 2: I refuse. All right, So, uh, all right, let's talk
- 48:30Speaker 2: about let's talk about the governor's state of the uh
- 48:33Speaker 2: state of the state last night, Wilson. Let's start with you,
- 48:36Speaker 2: uh give me your thoughts. And I know you guys
- 48:39Speaker 2: are gonna get into it more and on talk. I
- 48:40Speaker 2: don't want to spoil them.
- 48:41Speaker 18: But overall, uh, overall, it was it was an okay.
- 48:45Speaker 3: Speech. It was tight.
- 48:46Speaker 18: He stuck to the script. He's He's certainly not Jim Justice,
- 48:49Speaker 18: who came in with a general idea of where he
- 48:51Speaker 18: was going to go, but you never know.
- 48:52Speaker 2: Where he would end up.
- 48:54Speaker 18: And a lot of it we kind of he had
- 48:56Speaker 18: been telegraphing a lot of what he had in that
- 48:57Speaker 18: speech last night. We knew he was requesting the personal
- 49:01Speaker 18: income tax cut. We knew he was going to request
- 49:04Speaker 18: a pay raise for teachers. I find the idea of
- 49:08Speaker 18: having more flood prevention works efforts in the works, I
- 49:13Speaker 18: find that to be intriguing, getting more people trained to
- 49:16Speaker 18: go to work. I find some of that to be intriguing.
- 49:18Speaker 18: But a lot of it, because he had telegraphed it
- 49:20Speaker 18: prior to the speech, was very much expected last night.
- 49:25Speaker 2: TJ.
- 49:25Speaker 19: Yeah, I think ten percent also gives him a window
- 49:28Speaker 19: if he wants to cut back a little bit. Start high,
- 49:30Speaker 19: gives you some room for negotiation if you end up
- 49:32Speaker 19: more around five.
- 49:33Speaker 2: Look a lot of looking back.
- 49:35Speaker 19: And I get that these kinds of speeches are of
- 49:36Speaker 19: Pep Browley. You want to tell people what you've done, but.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Looking forward, a little light on the detail.
- 49:43Speaker 19: Dave Allen, if I'm being honest with you, and that's
- 49:45Speaker 19: where the rubber meets the road.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Look, we all want big things.
- 49:48Speaker 19: I want a third house in Barbados, but I got
- 49:49Speaker 19: to figure out how I'm going to pay for it.
- 49:51Speaker 19: And so that's what we need to hear moving forward,
- 49:54Speaker 19: and we'll hear that in the budget meetings today. But
- 49:55Speaker 19: how are we going to balance? How are we going
- 49:57Speaker 19: to afford a tax cut when you've got a couple
- 49:59Speaker 19: hundred million dollars up to four hundred million dollars according
- 50:02Speaker 19: to the governor's own budget document in the out years,
- 50:05Speaker 19: that we have a gap we have to fill. Last
- 50:06Speaker 19: year we were broke. What changed in a year we'll
- 50:08Speaker 19: find out.
- 50:09Speaker 18: Well, and I was trying to go ahead, Wilson, Well,
- 50:12Speaker 18: I was just going to say, I'm trying to figure
- 50:13Speaker 18: out how to say make rural America healthy again?
- 50:16Speaker 1: Is that?
- 50:16Speaker 18: Maraha?
- 50:18Speaker 2: Maraha? I like Raha, I like that, Maraha, I like that.
- 50:21Speaker 2: But to be fair to governor more see, I don't know.
- 50:24Speaker 2: And there was a texture that said something to this effect,
- 50:27Speaker 2: that said something to the effect of, you know, it
- 50:31Speaker 2: was a lot like a lot of other government speeches,
- 50:33Speaker 2: a lot of other governor's speeches if you go back
- 50:35Speaker 2: over the years, you know, fifteen, twenty, twenty five years,
- 50:38Speaker 2: whatever the case may be, the governors come out on
- 50:41Speaker 2: the say of the state speech be it, no matter
- 50:43Speaker 2: who it is, and they throw a lot of stuff
- 50:45Speaker 2: out there, knowing that a lot of it's not going
- 50:47Speaker 2: to sick. It's just kind of like their wish lists.
- 50:49Speaker 2: So I agree there wasn't a lot of detail, but
- 50:52Speaker 2: I don't think any other governors have given a lot
- 50:54Speaker 2: of specific details either over the years.
- 50:58Speaker 19: Look, I think it's fair, but when you're asking for
- 51:01Speaker 19: ten percent and last year you're talking about we're broke
- 51:03Speaker 19: and now we're going to do another ten percent pay cut,
- 51:05Speaker 19: I think you got to sell that a little bit.
- 51:06Speaker 19: And guys like me, I like details. Maybe I'm in
- 51:09Speaker 19: the minority there, and look they're doing that today. We'll
- 51:11Speaker 19: see what happens. But I did not hear about economic development.
- 51:15Speaker 19: I didn't hear anything about what the House wants to
- 51:17Speaker 19: do with Team West Virginia that's hanging out there. Labor
- 51:20Speaker 19: participation rate, Sure it sucks, we all know that, But
- 51:23Speaker 19: how are we going to get more people to work?
- 51:25Speaker 19: Those are the kind of things I wanted a little
- 51:26Speaker 19: more meat on.
- 51:27Speaker 3: But that's me.
- 51:27Speaker 2: I know, you guys are going to have the governor
- 51:29Speaker 2: on the show today. We've also got him on the
- 51:30Speaker 2: top of our show Metro News Midday. Who what else
- 51:32Speaker 2: you got on the show today?
- 51:34Speaker 18: Larry Pack is going to stop by in the second
- 51:36Speaker 18: our Kanaal County Delegate Elyong is going to swing by
- 51:39Speaker 18: in our number one. Also Vernon Chris, who is House
- 51:42Speaker 18: Finance Committee Chair. He will join us, plus Brad mcwhonney,
- 51:45Speaker 18: Amelia Nicely on the guest list today.
- 51:48Speaker 2: All right, what kind of day is it? Derek to capital?
- 51:51Speaker 2: Is it day two? Is there anything that we have
- 51:52Speaker 2: in like, you know, anything good? Like I don't know
- 51:55Speaker 2: broadworst day or anything like that.
- 51:58Speaker 18: It is Mineral County deal and the Mineral County Chamber
- 52:01Speaker 18: of Commerce brought us some brownies to snackle in here
- 52:04Speaker 18: prior to the show.
- 52:05Speaker 2: All right, let's be careful with the brownies. Okay, just
- 52:08Speaker 2: be careful with the brownies because there is a there
- 52:10Speaker 2: is a strong pro cannabis, uh, you know. Moving on
- 52:14Speaker 2: to the Capitol for the sessions. Let's be careful those brownies.
- 52:16Speaker 13: Boys.
