- 0:21Speaker 1: through the eighteenth this year, and we are excited to
- 0:26Speaker 1: have the Choctaw Indian Princess in studio, Lexi Rodriguez, joining

- 0:36Speaker 1: she has had an exciting year, that is for sure.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And she just graduated high school. She's about to go
- 0:43Speaker 1: to college, which is also super exciting.
- 0:47Speaker 2: And Lexi, good morning, how are you doing.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I'm good.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Thank you for hanging out with us today. Congratulations, Thank
- 0:54Speaker 1: you so. How much fun have I know it's been
- 0:58Speaker 1: action packed and a lot of events and a lot
- 1:00Speaker 1: of things to do. But has it been as rewarding
- 1:04Speaker 1: as you thought it would be?
- 1:05Speaker 3: It has?
- 1:06Speaker 4: It actually has Like I've had so much fun that
- 1:09Speaker 4: I don't even want to give it away.
- 1:12Speaker 2: And that's a good thing.
- 1:12Speaker 1: So tell me give me one or two things that
- 1:16Speaker 1: you've done in the last twelve months. They've been like
- 1:18Speaker 1: your your favorite.
- 1:20Speaker 4: I have a ton but I would probably say when
- 1:23Speaker 4: I got to go to local schools around our tribe
- 1:27Speaker 4: and visit the little kids, and just seeing how excited
- 1:30Speaker 4: they look whenever they saw me, and when I walked
- 1:32Speaker 4: in the room and then didn't get the opportunity to
- 1:35Speaker 4: ask me questions, you know, about the princess pageant, what
- 1:39Speaker 4: it took and everything. So I kind of felt like
- 1:43Speaker 4: I was inspired, inspiring especially the younger girls, you know,
- 1:46Speaker 4: to run. And then another one was actually getting to
- 1:50Speaker 4: go to Nashville. I was one of the first to
- 1:53Speaker 4: go to Nashville for the Grand Ole Opry.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Yeah, how awesome was that?
- 1:57Speaker 3: It was great?
- 1:58Speaker 2: That's a pretty place.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and country music. So I was like very honored.
- 2:03Speaker 5: I was like, I was really happy and that's the place.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, you love country music, the Grand Old Opry. Yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 1: we're visiting with Lexi Rodriguez choc Tall Indian Princess this
- 2:15Speaker 1: past year and show you mentioned the pageant walk us
- 2:18Speaker 1: through how you become chock Tall Indian Princess.
- 2:23Speaker 4: So we go through this whole phase where maybe like
- 2:29Speaker 4: before the pageant announcement, we have sponsorship, so we choose
- 2:34Speaker 4: our sponsors or who who wants to sponsor us. They
- 2:37Speaker 4: do like interviews to see if we can get the sponsorship.
- 2:41Speaker 4: So for me, my sponsor was Chalkdaw Tribal Schools.
- 2:45Speaker 3: And then we have our pageant meeting.
- 2:48Speaker 4: We meet all the contestants and maybe in June that's
- 2:51Speaker 4: when we start our pageant practices.
- 2:54Speaker 3: And we have four phases to our pageant.
- 2:56Speaker 4: We have our personal and we have our interview, which
- 3:00Speaker 4: is the day the day before the pageant, but this
- 3:03Speaker 4: year it's different, it's the two days before the pageant, okay.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Then we have our personal presentation. The personal presentation pretty
- 3:14Speaker 4: much we can talk about anything we want to bring
- 3:16Speaker 4: awareness to, anything, you know, we want to do throughout
- 3:19Speaker 4: or range, just anything we want to talk about.
- 3:21Speaker 3: And then we have the dress review.
- 3:24Speaker 4: The dress triview is pretty much describing your dress, why
- 3:27Speaker 4: you chose it, the significance of it, what it means,
- 3:31Speaker 4: and everything about you know, the details. Sure, and then
- 3:35Speaker 4: obviously the hardest part is the on stage question.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I can't imagine. Yeah, we're you nervous.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I was.
- 3:42Speaker 4: I actually ran two years ago my first year, and
- 3:45Speaker 4: I got first alternate. So this year, well, last year
- 3:48Speaker 4: I was a little more confident.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Right, Okay, so you kind of knew the lay of
- 3:52Speaker 1: the land. Yeah, going in the second time. Yeah, you've
- 3:55Speaker 1: done well to be first alternate and then you get It's.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Actually funny because the first time I ran I work contacts,
- 4:04Speaker 4: so I took it out just so I couldn't see
- 4:05Speaker 4: anybody that's smart.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I like that.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Alexi Rodriguez on the Out of Bound show Chocktaw Indian
- 4:14Speaker 1: Princess this past year and when do you hand over?
- 4:17Speaker 3: On July fifteenth, July fifteenth.
- 4:20Speaker 1: So the fair is July fourteenth through the eighteenth this year,
- 4:25Speaker 1: and so that'll be exciting too. I know you'll it'll
- 4:28Speaker 1: be kind of bittersweet, but you're excited and you don't
- 4:31Speaker 1: know until.
- 4:34Speaker 2: When or do you already know? Like when when do
- 4:37Speaker 2: we know who? The next princess is? Only fifte on
- 4:40Speaker 2: that day? Okay, all right, so here we go.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Lexi Rodriguez on ESPN one oh five nine The Zone
- 4:47Speaker 1: the Chocktaw Indian Fairs, July fourteenth through the eighteenth.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Alexi's had an amazing year. First of all, she's been the.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Princess, then she graduated high school and now she's going
- 4:59Speaker 1: to college. So what an exciting twelve plus months. Now
- 5:05Speaker 1: let's talk stickball, which is an incredible game, unbelievable athletes.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Before we get to the fair, I want our listeners
- 5:13Speaker 1: who've never seen a game of stickball in person, tell
- 5:17Speaker 1: me about it. What's the atmosphere like on the field,
- 5:21Speaker 1: because I know how competitive and fun and people want
- 5:24Speaker 1: to win.
- 5:25Speaker 3: It's very intense.
- 5:26Speaker 4: I would say to me, it's similar, Well, they compare
- 5:30Speaker 4: it similar to lacrosse. Yeah, so it's been played for many,
- 5:34Speaker 4: many years, and back then it was used to settle
- 5:38Speaker 4: disputes between different tribes. So we would play like acres
- 5:44Speaker 4: of land real long, and there would be different polls
- 5:49Speaker 4: like I'm all apart, and we would play with like
- 5:51Speaker 4: a thousands of people and they would just you know,
- 5:55Speaker 4: but they had no rules. So it was kind of
- 5:57Speaker 4: like a more type of thing. But this year it's
- 6:01Speaker 4: pretty much just for bragging rights, so.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And super competitive.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it is, it really is.
- 6:08Speaker 2: So do you will you catch most of the games?
- 6:13Speaker 3: I will. I will actually be out there most of
- 6:15Speaker 3: the time.
- 6:16Speaker 2: That's great.
- 6:18Speaker 1: What you got out of bounds ESPN one oh five
- 6:21Speaker 1: nine the zone. The stickball games are going to be epic,
- 6:25Speaker 1: big time competition. People want to win, and then you
- 6:30Speaker 1: got everybody cheering for different teams, So that makes it fun.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Jackson meadows what you got?
- 6:36Speaker 5: How don't some of those games going forever? Don't? Don't
- 6:39Speaker 5: they last for like.
- 6:40Speaker 4: If it's a really good game, it's gonna go on
- 6:43Speaker 4: that whole night.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Yeah, like there's some of the last days, right days
- 6:47Speaker 5: and even a week or plus. I think they get
- 6:50Speaker 5: its intense.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Great athletes, you got to be in unbelievable shape.
- 6:54Speaker 5: Oh the boys aren't small either. Yeah, they look that.
- 6:58Speaker 5: They look at they are inflicting pain.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Now, did you ever play stickball?
- 7:02Speaker 3: I had.
- 7:03Speaker 4: I played when I was younger, but you know, our
- 7:05Speaker 4: younger division it's girls and boys. So my my dad
- 7:09Speaker 4: was kind of like he didn't like me playing with
- 7:11Speaker 4: the boys because they were very rough.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Sure, and I grew up with four brothers, so I
- 7:15Speaker 3: was kind of okay, we have four brothers.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Yeah, oh you got four younger.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Brothers, four younger brothers.
- 7:22Speaker 1: What did they think about Lexi becoming the princess? Did
- 7:25Speaker 1: they think that was cool? They?
- 7:27Speaker 4: I think they liked it, but they didn't like the attention.
- 7:32Speaker 1: They're like big siss is getting too much attention this year.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Yes, they didn't like the attention that I was getting
- 7:39Speaker 4: or if like people knew people knew me and knew
- 7:43Speaker 4: they were my brothers, and they would like tell them,
- 7:45Speaker 4: you know, something about my sister being something about their
- 7:48Speaker 4: sister being the princess.
- 7:49Speaker 3: And they didn't like me. They didn't like being mentioned
- 7:53Speaker 3: as a princess's brother.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Yea, I love this.
- 7:57Speaker 1: They're like, we're tired of hearing about Lexi being the princess.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Happy for but we hear about it every day. Plus
- 8:02Speaker 1: she's a senior in high school. She was a senior
- 8:04Speaker 1: in high school, which is a big deal too, so
- 8:07Speaker 1: it was definitely her year, all right. So we got
- 8:10Speaker 1: stickball games, we got the fair, we got all kinds
- 8:13Speaker 1: of arts and crafts, I mean music. It's it's an
- 8:17Speaker 1: unbelievable celebration.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Every everything for everybody.
- 8:20Speaker 5: Right. Really it parties, Yeah, they really have a good
- 8:23Speaker 5: time out there.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Well they know how to do it, sure, And it's
- 8:26Speaker 1: a celebration and it's going to be great. July fourteenth
- 8:30Speaker 1: through the eighteenth Chock Tall Indian Fair. So glad to
