- Sean Graver: So, what's the first thing you say about yourself when someone asks who you are? Well, for a lot of us, it's what we do. Welcome back. I'm Sean, and this is Prayer Before Work. Now, the Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 2 10 we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. So his workmanship, that's the identity. The good works come out of it, but they're not what defines you. Your job title is not your identity, is it? Your performance reviews are not your identity, are they? What you produce, what you earn, what you achieve, none of that is who you are. It's what you do. And that's an important distinction, especially in a culture that blurs those two constantly. When our identity is tied to our work, it's Every setback at work becomes a threat to who we are. I mean, every slow season feels like a crisis and ⁓ every failure hits harder than it should be because something more than a project is on the line. But when you know your identity is secure and not because of the job title, but but because of whose you are, work becomes a different thing. It becomes a place where you bring who you are. Instead of a place where you're trying to figure out who you are. You are not what you produce. You are a person made by God, loved before you ever accomplished anything, and sent into your workplace as an expression of that, not as proof of it. So let's pray. Lord, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, that my worth is not up for review today. Help me show up to work grounded in who I am in you. Not performing, not proving, just bringing what I have to give from a place of security. Remind me whose I am, especially when the pressure to perform is so high. In Jesus' name, amen. And go make today count.
