- 0:44Welcome back to be boundary Corner podcast.
- 0:47I'm Curtis Wilson. I'm Brian siglo buddy.
- 0:51We were angry. Yesterday we were and it's a
- 0:56great thing that happened. Probably for our hearts and, you
- 1:02know, our bodies that you headed down to VB for a show thought
- 1:07you'd be back by about 10:30 and then other things happen and you
- 1:11get caught because I think If this had been 24 hours ago, I
- 1:17think we probably would have ran it for probably two hours.
- 1:23You're probably going to get a slightly more well-known and
- 1:26thought out, break down here. You may not quite get the fire
- 1:31and brimstone that. You would have died last night,
- 1:34but we're still plenty angry, and you're going to see that
- 1:36come out here, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:37So that's what buckle up with plenty angry, but it's Sunday
- 1:42night. So we're not We're having you
- 1:44know, complimentary Beverages. And if you know I'm having some
- 1:47water because we got to go to work tomorrow, you know, still
- 1:51haven't won. But you know you're having one.
- 1:53Nah nah. I'm good tonight.
- 1:56I'm good tonight when last night didn't happen to probably the
- 1:58best thing for my body. I would have to sleep at a
- 2:01normal hour, got a good amount of sleep, you know, and compared
- 2:07to a normal Saturday where we would have talked ranted, watch
- 2:10some late night football but we So, usually one am before we
- 2:15normally cash it in guys, only after Saturday rant.
- 2:18Yeah, your Saturday Ranch session.
- 2:20Stay up watching football but we didn't do that.
- 2:22But you know what? The loss 2721 to West Virginia,
- 2:27we got a lot to own pack a lot and it's it's primarily towards
- 2:34one side of the ball but we're not going to let the defense off
- 2:36the hook they had their moments especially in the first half.
- 2:39But Brian, we sit here tonight, man.
- 2:41And we just got straight up say it.
- 2:43It this game was the story of three drives re drives inside
- 2:49the 10-yard line, 9 + plays. 0 points:0 absolutely atrocious,
- 2:57red zone offense for really the entire game.
- 3:00But in particular, I mean those three drives were absolutely
- 3:07mind-numbing and let's start with the first one.
- 3:10So you have, you know, we thought we Yeah, just before the
- 3:14half, this is after Braxton, Burmeister has an amazing
- 3:20scramble gets outside breaks the tackle dies for the first down.
- 3:25Yep. And here's where things get get
- 3:28hazy. So first down, we know what
- 3:31happened we watched it. It should have been a touchdown
- 3:36that the the back judge called it a touchdown then they got
- 3:41together. They said no incomplete.
- 3:43Ball touch the ground review and I don't know how this crew comes
- 3:49back with not seeing definitively.
- 3:52That that ball never touched the ground.
- 3:54I have no idea what they were looking at every angle.
- 3:58I saw the ball. Never touches, hold on.
- 4:01This is why they did what they did.
- 4:03Just looking at it yesterday. All right.
- 4:07If that was ruled a touchdown, whatever way they called it on,
- 4:11the field was not going to be overturned. and because of the
- 4:14darkness of trays tadion Robinson's gloves in the
- 4:17darkness of the ugly West Virginia in zone and the way
- 4:22that ball came up When they called it incomplete, they had
- 4:28the mindset of it. Hit the ground, that's why it
- 4:30popped up. That had to be their mindset,
- 4:33right? That had it had to be with a man
- 4:36vs. Bear.
- 4:37Hands are underneath the whole time but that stinky, but if
- 4:40they keep it as a touchdown, then you sit here and say, well,
- 4:44his hands are there. That's probably why it popped
- 4:46up. You can't say the ground pop it
- 4:48up because there was no definitive evidence.
- 4:50So what they did is they screwed us on that if they called it a
- 4:53touchdown, it stands. We walk into halftime 27:14.
- 4:57It's a lot different ball game in the second half.
- 5:00Who knows how it turns out maybe we're not as a angry right now
- 5:02but we are, but that's what it was.
- 5:05Yep. So the review took, it felt like
- 5:08ten minutes. It literally felt like 10
- 5:11minutes. Like, you know, what do we do
- 5:13here? What do we do?
- 5:14What do we do? What do we do?
- 5:15And then they come back, call stands, no touchdown, and then
- 5:21Neal Brown, which I have an affinity for not liking him, a
- 5:26liked him when he was at Troy. You like a guy less?
- 5:28When they go to a rival School, let's call three timeouts in a
- 5:31row. Why we're just like yeah I mean
- 5:35that was so we lost about what six minutes on the review.
- 5:41Maybe then we had another and another three or four minutes
- 5:45lost on the three timeouts. Then we finally lineup fucking
- 5:50false start. Back up five, not a shot there
- 5:55now and then after all that, you know, we don't get it on.
- 6:00On third. No.
- 6:01Go out to kick the field goal there.
- 6:04We're on the right hash which for whatever reason John Parker
- 6:08Romo, struggles from him, right house, especially close up, you
- 6:14cannot hit him close and at my thought is he is a draw kicker
- 6:18and he's aiming just on the outside of the pole expecting to
- 6:21draw back. Don Parker, I need you to go to
- 6:24the golf course and hit a sand wedge.
- 6:26This week are weight or lob wedge and try to turn that ball
- 6:32over. That ball will not turn over the
- 6:35way you normally probably draw a ball that ball will draw only a
- 6:40little bit and that's what you're doing.
- 6:42Now I will put that on shall best because Chavez could be
- 6:46kicking when he's sitting there. Like listen son you need to aim
- 6:49for the middle. If you if you can duck hook that
- 6:52thing within 20 yards to the other side.
- 6:56Yep. Then like you shouldn't be
- 6:59kicking it all at this, at this point, you mean, We've obviously
- 7:04seen that he has a tendency to kind of leave it.
- 7:07Right. So we got to make some
- 7:08adjustment here in the fact that there hasn't been too just to
- 7:10make made at this point is disappointing.
- 7:13Well, hold it should go to the offensive coordinator.
- 7:17Who should have in the back of his head.
- 7:19He has struggled from the right, hash.
- 7:21Maybe I should run something to the left, hash to, at least, get
- 7:24a set up that way. Yep, but I don't think that guy
- 7:27stinks like that. It also we just to feel gold
- 7:3224/7. It Half.
- 7:34And I mean, I think for the majority of us it's just the
- 7:38thought of its games over. We all went.
- 7:41Yeah, pretty a lot of us had all those checked out but if we
- 7:45hadn't physically we had more or less mentally checked out at
- 7:48that point especially after we open the second half.
- 7:53You know, defense does a good bend don't break act but they
- 7:56still got another three to kind of start that off and we're
- 7:59like, all right, well, they're still scoring, we're still not
- 8:03there. It's gonna get ugly and then we
- 8:05kind of get to the the end of the third quarter.
- 8:08And you know, black share is a good run down.
- 8:11The sideline Gets In The End Zone just before the end of the
- 8:14third quarter and now we gotta got ourselves a 10-point game.
- 8:18But let's be honest though, with that Braxton bird might have
- 8:21saved that drive a 26 yard scramble.
- 8:24Third and 24, he doesn't do that.
- 8:27There's there's literally no pulse.
- 8:30We probably go for it on like third and 20, we run fourth and
- 8:3220. Run like a draw, you know,
- 8:35that's the way things seem to be shaping up nowadays, so he saves
- 8:39us. We get it in, like you
- 8:40mentioned, literally with one second left on the clock and
- 8:46maybe a little hope, but you're still sitting here like, okay,
- 8:50that's great, but it's 1/4. We really haven't done much all
- 8:54day. Are we really going to get two?
- 8:57Quarters defense is playing better defense.
- 8:59Finally locked in settle down a little bit, but then You know,
- 9:05let's talk about it. The bar no or excuse me garbage
- 9:08sack, get the temple. And yes, here we go.
- 9:12What we're going to drive, we're moving it Brian.
- 9:16We start, using all parts of the field, we start using some metal
- 9:19Parts with Caleb, a little Jet Sweep little outside Zone.
- 9:23It's like somebody was saying, hey, let's mix these things up,
- 9:27maybe we could actually get down and maybe we could score.
- 9:34And then we get down and then The Comedy of Errors started.
- 9:42Yeah. I put, what will I put a WTF?
- 9:44What kind of play was that on first down?
- 9:46After, after the after Jalen gets that huge gash in play down
- 9:51to the six? It's like they're on their
- 9:54heels. The only thing you shouldn't do
- 9:56is give them a simplistic. That's why I put it WTF play.
- 10:01Don't give them a simplistic play that will gather either
- 10:04their momentum back. What do we do?
- 10:06Let's just run right. Adam Boudreaux.
- 10:08Right out of this is the work we struggle.
- 10:11We struggled with push up front most of the day and You know, we
- 10:16had we had an earlier one where it was it was fourth in one we
- 10:20went for it. Didn't get it like we did.
- 10:23We couldn't sack up and get short yardage all day.
- 10:25Well let's we talk about. Let you I'll let you go on that
- 10:29one, its fourth and one you have Connor, blumrich six-foot-five
- 10:33220-pound who the week before showed, this can be done with
- 10:37him, they don't see him all day. That I really don't get that
- 10:42that design there. But let's Finish up what we were
- 10:46talking about on the, on the fourth quarter drive here, okay,
- 10:49the big head scratcher is the is the the third down play call.
- 10:54Well, let's locate the second down.
- 10:57It was a fake jet, a little inside Zone.
- 10:59To get us down to three on the Fiat, right?
- 11:01Hash all right, you got all this room left but one of the far
- 11:07right? Has you have all this room left?
- 11:10Tavian Robinson, great fade route.
- 11:11Tray on a great fade route right now.
- 11:16And you know, I got to watch it after the fact.
- 11:20So I knew what was going to happen, but I'm sitting there
- 11:22and I'm seeing the setup. I'm like you just you just you
- 11:26put everybody in the boxes at the person you want.
- 11:28And say, go beat your man. Instead you try to explain this
- 11:34in all of your football experience crying what happened.
- 11:38The thing they're doing in the thing that the concept that they
- 11:40wanted to do is, is something that has worked in the past when
- 11:44James Mitchell is in the game, James Mitchell is not in the
- 11:46game. Ladies and gentlemen, don't see.
- 11:48And when James, when James Mitchell, when they do this,
- 11:51this Jet Sweep to the short side, what they usually have is
- 11:55James Mitchell in there, which means that the strength of the
- 11:58defense is away from where the play is going.
- 12:02That was not the case with Trey motioning into the backfield and
- 12:06then taking the jet Suite, we ran right into the heart of the
- 12:10defense. There were two players that were
- 12:12not even accounted for in the blocking scheme on that side of
- 12:16the defense and it got absolutely blown the fuck up.
- 12:19My biggest issue with that. Brian is when Trey went set, it
- 12:24was still like that, they didn't move anyone.
- 12:28Let's go usually it's a check right?
- 12:31It's a check from you. What you would think you would
- 12:33think so yeah it's like nah we're gonna go we're gonna go
- 12:36right at them and you're sitting here and saying like you said
- 12:39you start counting players. There's like there's two guys,
- 12:41I'm blocked. There's there's two guys not
- 12:42accounted for in that scheme. How are we going to get this in?
- 12:48What probably should have happened?
- 12:49In that case I told you what my thought was, again, we still had
- 12:52a guy single, I think tavey on was hi, it's fake.
- 12:56The jet motion. Try to run him on a slant or
- 13:00something where you hope that quarterbacks eyes looks inside
- 13:04and he can't make the contact. And he gets any throw, a
- 13:07touchdown or that you'd ran Jet Sweep All Day.
- 13:12Braxton Burmeister had not taken it one time.
- 13:16You know what everybody says? Well we gotta you know we
- 13:19understand we need to protect him in this case, it is less
- 13:22than two minutes to go. It's almost borderline a minute,
- 13:24right? Oh no, this is the earlier one.
- 13:26This is the early and this is I think we go it's three minutes
- 13:29left. That's not much time.
- 13:31Because of what's that little bit earlier than that?
- 13:33We actually scored with three minutes left.
- 13:37Okay. Yeah.
- 13:38The holster scores that three minutes.
- 13:39This was like five or five and a half.
- 13:41Okay. Either way though, either way.
- 13:43Yeah, you have a chance to get within one score.
- 13:46Yeah. They have shown you.
- 13:47They're going to sell out. Pull it.
- 13:50Pull it. Pull it.
- 13:53Or if nothing else, right. Be creative.
- 13:56Right? Yeah.
- 13:58Jean. They're fake the jet running
- 14:01inside Zone. Run a speed option left.
- 14:04The only time that we like had a design run for Braxton.
- 14:07It was that dumbass forth in one.
- 14:09Everything else is either here, taking off for whatever reason,
- 14:12we are not using the read elements of the read option.
- 14:17It looks like way Way way too many times.
- 14:23It's a design call. Yeah, it's a design called
- 14:27they're not they're not letting Braxton read the defense and if
- 14:30they are Then they need to coach him up that he needs to start
- 14:35keeping it more often. But the way the way there, the
- 14:38mesh point is I don't see that as a read.
- 14:41I see that as him giving the ball all the way in carrying out
- 14:43the fake. Exactly.
- 14:46So, we lose three yards there, so we're back at the 6 yard
- 14:49line, where back exactly where we started after the great
- 14:51Holston run or the great Holston play and forth.
- 14:55Down its we're trips far Smith is near, he was in the backfield
- 15:01and I'm Therefore minute they're like a cover to so to me like
- 15:06they are sitting here kind of saying well you're going to have
- 15:09to run something short and quick.
- 15:12If you have a scramble drill going to keep two guys in the
- 15:14back of the end zone. So if you're doing any code
- 15:16across others, we're going to have a guys covered there.
- 15:20You know, it looked like maybe Drake was the past.
- 15:23It look like he hooked up but he was right.
- 15:24Like two guys are like this with it.
- 15:26They're just like that is just like In some chances, you know
- 15:31you almost just say it soon as he steps in hitches, just throw
- 15:34it on. If they pick it, you're down.
- 15:3614. If they pick it and wore it
- 15:40best, they're going to be maybe at the 20 at worst.
- 15:43They're going to be inside their own five.
- 15:45Yeah, it was held on too long. I know brought got beat, he was
- 15:48at actually, right, tackle at the time, he got beat on the
- 15:51edge that was, you know, the sack from would have closed out
- 15:54that that series. But I mean, that's trip number
- 15:57two, into the Red Zone into the inside the 10 at one point,
- 16:00inside the five no points, you know, then we have great
- 16:06defensive, you know, we already talked about the whole season
- 16:08scoring on the on the check down there.
- 16:10Yeah, hold them on third. Get the pic on the wall or gets
- 16:15the interception on the green. He sniffed that thing out like
- 16:20Gibby and we're back inside the 10 guys, we're back inside.
- 16:24The 10 were knocking on the door.
- 16:25There's less than two minutes to go in the game.
- 16:28Less than two minutes to go. I mean, this is the game.
- 16:31Yeah, this is the game. They have one timeout left and
- 16:34the way we had set in zone, I highly doubt they could probably
- 16:40cover the 30. The 30 to 40 yards, they need to
- 16:48get in field goal range. Um, Governor Gallego saying are
- 16:53tight ends need to be more involved.
- 16:55Agree with that, but the way that we're playing right now,
- 17:00you can't. You cannot risk taking gallo and
- 17:02putting them on routes. Well, you even going to, you
- 17:06need to leak him out like we've done in the past so many times,
- 17:10and we'll talk about it right now.
- 17:11Let's go ahead and fucking talk about it right now because on
- 17:13this game. Siding drive, we ran up the gut
- 17:18twice and then we had to Sprint outs to the right.
- 17:22Oh, what about that? That was our genius.
- 17:25Fucking plan to give the end zone.
- 17:28So lets you know the up and get calls are what they are.
- 17:32Right? Well I'm not long after the game
- 17:35ended just to get his feelings on it and in the first thing you
- 17:41said, was why in the world? Are you deciding on the last
- 17:45play? As of the game to cut half the
- 17:47field, like you were living like, I'll get it, like, can't
- 17:51understand that. So, it was, so infuriating to
- 17:55me, it's essentially saying, we don't, it's saying two things
- 18:01saying, we don't trust, our offensive line to give Braxton
- 18:04two and a half seconds to get a read and make a throw.
- 18:10That's that to me is unacceptable at some point.
- 18:12You got to trust your players to go out there and make a play.
- 18:16They've done it in this game. They fought and clawed and got
- 18:20back into this game. Do not trust the players to make
- 18:24a play. Trust them and give them an
- 18:28opportunity to make that play. Don't cut them off at the knees
- 18:34before the ball is even snapped, and that's what they did with
- 18:38those calls. They cut they cut half the field
- 18:42off and they said all right well it's an attempt to flood the
- 18:49Zone but there's so many damn Defenders already in the zone.
- 18:53Like it's not going to work, you'll get you might get lucky
- 18:57as hell that something comes out there but give your quarterback
- 19:01the whole field to work with. If he drops back he has an
- 19:05opportunity to take off and run. Yep.
- 19:08He doesn't have that with the a sprint out that they see coming
- 19:11from a fucking mile away. In the other issue on that is,
- 19:17you're also taking whoever's on the left side of the field and
- 19:20you're running backs and the tight ends at least one of the
- 19:24tight ends in that they're going to be out of the play.
- 19:26So whoever's over, whoever's on the left side of the field
- 19:29because we sprinted, right? Is out.
- 19:31Yep. Whoever's the running back is is
- 19:33completely out. So you are taking two weapons
- 19:37off completely. It essentially, you're making it
- 19:40a three on five game and you didn't leak any one to the back
- 19:44side. Side of that play.
- 19:46They had that. That's where we talk about.
- 19:47When we talk about tight ends getting involved, that's where
- 19:50we traditionally get. The tight ends involved is that
- 19:52we showed that Sprint action, and then we have either a drag
- 19:57going back across, or we have a tight end leaking out on the
- 20:00back side of the block. Yep.
- 20:03And we did none of that we've ever done of that.
- 20:06We're Malik like the yes year. He scored a couple on those
- 20:10linkages. He just he down block and
- 20:12eventually the Whoever he was blocking would like get off and
- 20:17just attack the ball and he would just take like three steps
- 20:20and it was just a easy touchdown and that would have been a
- 20:23perfect call on third down because if you actually had that
- 20:27because you still had plenty of time to get back up to the line
- 20:29and get a call in there. Yes you did.
- 20:32But we didn't do it. So there's your three
- 20:35opportunities and as much as people want to say, it could
- 20:39have been a blowout for West Virginia.
- 20:41It's 21 points as Ian. Max and I know there's a minimum
- 20:48but we hit the minimum. We goose egg do it and with that
- 20:54we're going to its time because we've done it before and we're
- 20:59going to it's going to be a little more hardcore tonight.
- 21:01So I told Brian about 10 minutes for we got on it's the old
- 21:08definition of insanity, right? Brian.
- 21:11Continue to do the same things over and over and expect a
- 21:14different result. Brad cornelison is insane when
- 21:19it comes to short side. You'll please, We've seen it
- 21:23since you got here. I can remember, I'm going three
- 21:27in three consecutive years. 2019, Kentucky was like third
- 21:32and three third and to brine we're driving.
- 21:35It's late. We get a first down.
- 21:36We almost can lock it up. We've got to get it.
- 21:41He runs a short side sweep with Hendon hooker.
- 21:45They sniff. It lose what 34 yards?
- 21:48We have to punt, they cleared Drive the field score touchdown
- 21:53last year, and this is the play. I talk about a lot.
- 21:56Third and three, North Carolina. We're driving.
- 21:59After that horrendous start, we have a chance to go down.
- 22:02Cut it to one score with just a few minutes left in the half.
- 22:07He throws a short side screen, three yards behind the line of
- 22:10scrimmage to tadion Robinson. Right?
- 22:13Yep, we eat it alive. He's down the next.
- 22:16Plays the inside slant that gets broken up and then it was the
- 22:21trade Turner play yesterday. Again short side box loaded,
- 22:27they eat it alive and I sit here in it's the same things his
- 22:34errors from five years ago. And subsequent years are
- 22:38continuously the same errors over and over and over again.
- 22:45And that makes me mad because I sit here is a novice at football
- 22:49and can say you can't continue to do that.
- 22:55Yeah, I mean when I look at it it feels like situationally and
- 23:01we talked about this before situationally it's like he talks
- 23:06himself out of good decisions. It is absolutely infuriating.
- 23:14Just watching. Good drives turn into either
- 23:19three points or no points because of ineptitude and key
- 23:22situations. Yes.
- 23:27I've just I like I said, I feel bad for the, for the offensive
- 23:29players because they really went out there and they played their
- 23:31ass off, especially in the second half.
- 23:35You know, a lot of a lot of I'll use the word a lot of grit from
- 23:39from the from the boys out there in the second half.
- 23:42But the it feels like they the staff wasn't didn't prepare
- 23:47them. Well enough to start this game
- 23:49and then key moments in the second half.
- 23:53We're just we're just killer. They were killer.
- 23:57It's back-breaking. You gotta you gotta you gotta
- 24:00put the ball in the end zone when you have the opportunity,
- 24:03you just have to. And when you have three like
- 24:05that you've got to get at least two of those three, at least two
- 24:11because you had them reeling. They were reeling on those last
- 24:14two drives you can say the one before, the half was a screw up.
- 24:18Those last two, they were reeling and if you don't write
- 24:22play on that first thing, V a touchdown be cut, but instead
- 24:25you call a, he called plays that let them regain their footing,
- 24:29get their breath, get their thought process back if he's and
- 24:33I had no in on the, on the drive to in the game.
- 24:35I had no problem with the first down, run call because you want
- 24:38to get a little bit more clock. Yeah, I want to take a little
- 24:41bit more clock offset first down.
- 24:43That's a smart play. You get inside the five.
- 24:46Hopefully, with that you, you get a little clock running you
- 24:50or you force them to use their time out, right?
- 24:53Yep. Second down.
- 24:55I did like them going back to the well really running
- 24:58essentially the same play again, and then back-to-back Sprint
- 25:01out. Same plate.
- 25:03You ran the same place both times.
- 25:05The same play first and second, the same play, third, and
- 25:07fourth, like, there's nothing else in the Playbook here.
- 25:11There's nothing else that you can come up with to potentially
- 25:14get it in the end zone and win a game.
- 25:16Yep. Like I said, I just, I really
- 25:18don't like taking away that much of the feel in again, a key
- 25:21moment. You know, there are strategic At
- 25:23times where you call the Sprint out, I just don't feel like that
- 25:26is where I hated on on key Downs.
- 25:31It just it seems lazy to me. It seems it seems lazy.
- 25:37Brian you got anything else. You want to sound corn right
- 25:38now? Because I'm going to go in a
- 25:39little different direction about who I want to round them.
- 25:42Yeah, go for it. Corn is the easy scapegoat he is
- 25:51and we've seen it over and over, okay?
- 25:54But Brian we work at jobs where if people do the same thing over
- 26:00and over and it's wrong. Eventually they quit looking at
- 26:05the person who does it and they start looking at the person
- 26:08who's in charge of that person. Yeah.
- 26:11Yeah and it's Justin Fuente. The same things keep happening
- 26:17and it's on his watch, it's on him.
- 26:20You have not went in and corrected your employees
- 26:26problems and it is affecting everyone.
- 26:30It is affecting the offensive coordinator is affecting all of
- 26:35the positional coaches is affecting the players and it is
- 26:38affecting the fans and it's on you because you should be making
- 26:44the decisions. it's of if you're telling him, don't do this
- 26:49anymore, let's call these plays and he's not Then you need to
- 26:54fire him. If it's to the point where, you
- 27:00know, we feel good about the design, we feel good about what
- 27:03we're doing. But, you know, he has these
- 27:04areas where he needs to work on its been 5 years.
- 27:07If he hasn't work those out yet, if you can't fire him, you need
- 27:11to take away responsibilities from and you will not do it.
- 27:14He will not do it and it's you know what, and I know it's
- 27:18tough. Justin you lived with the guy in
- 27:20your 20s when y'all were just getting the coaching ranks and
- 27:23you lived in the fraternity was so cool.
- 27:25But guess what? You're making four point seven
- 27:29million dollars a year, he's making right at half a million
- 27:31dollars a year. And what we're seeing is a
- 27:35program, especially the last three years is a average
- 27:39product. We're not used to that the here
- 27:43in a four-year run where Frank was average people that love
- 27:47Frank said, it's time to go. We don't want an average
- 27:49product, and you're giving us an average product and you're not
- 27:53doing anything about it. You were hired to bring the
- 27:56product back to where it was in the late 90s and the entire
- 28:00decade of the 2000s and weave. One time in that the entire
- 28:06tenure reach that level in, a lot of that was with holdover
- 28:10players from the Beamer era. Yep, at some point, we got to
- 28:15stop losing games like this, that we have no business losing,
- 28:22its really frustrating at this point.
- 28:24Because as you said, if the problem is everything, then you
- 28:30need to fire him. And if the problem is the play
- 28:32calling, then you need to do, either take over
- 28:35responsibilities or hire yourself.
- 28:37A co-coordinator that is just going to call the plays or hire
- 28:41somebody on staff, give Adam like Tim Burger Shop.
- 28:46But you got it, you got it. You can't do the same thing over
- 28:48and over and expect different results, and that's what we're
- 28:51getting. We're getting different results
- 28:53in the thing is, what his, what his go back to his.
- 28:56Well, he's had like some of the best offensive seasons in
- 29:00Virginia Tech History. The first of all, you comparing
- 29:03that to bronstein Spring, who ranked under left driven several
- 29:08times with NFL Talent, son, and the other part is Georgia.
- 29:14Great yard, your great yards without points or meaningless.
- 29:21And that's what he does. He gets yards without points.
- 29:27So if you ask me right now, would you want to Brian?
- 29:31Would you want to average 538 yards, a game, but scored, 29
- 29:35Points, or would you want to average 400 a game score?
- 29:3838, thank the game. When it's pretty points of the
- 29:40only thing that matters. If you're not scoring points, I
- 29:42don't give a shit. How many yards you put it
- 29:44doesn't because they're empty. I've seen teams average under
- 29:49450 yards of game but they're averaging 42 a game, like
- 29:55efficient, it's not at some point if you're putting the The
- 29:57End Zone then that means either one or two things.
- 30:00Number one, your offense is being efficient.
- 30:01Number two, you probably also are pairing that with a good
- 30:03defense. Yep.
- 30:05And they're giving you the ball in good field position and they
- 30:07did that twice. They did that twice yesterday.
- 30:13You know, you did in another thing.
- 30:15Let's go on to the continuing to kind of rant.
- 30:18You talked about just a poor job up front getting push.
- 30:23We look in that first quarter. We looked lackadaisical tell us
- 30:28it looked like it was the first road game they had ever played
- 30:31in their careers. It's not even that Braun.
- 30:34You can have nerves. Usually you see nervous, energy.
- 30:37Somebody makes a dumb play but you see people hyped up right
- 30:40now? If we look we didn't want hyped
- 30:42up and again that goes back to for Wednesday.
- 30:45Your job is to get these guys in a mental state to go out there
- 30:49and want to run through someone that first offensive play after
- 30:53that screen which was a brilliant called the next couple
- 30:56place is kind of look like Blah we blot, why are they behind us?
- 31:01Why can't we get push? It's just like in the thing is
- 31:05With The Wind that we've seen that happen numerous times,
- 31:08we've seen them come out very, very lackadaisical, especially
- 31:11on the offensive side. Takes a quarter and a half two
- 31:13quarters to really find their footing.
- 31:17And I'm going to talk about another thing, we're talking a
- 31:19little bit about the offensive line.
- 31:20I know that we've had some trouble, we had an injury in
- 31:24this game. We are still working progress on
- 31:27the right. Side.
- 31:29But the big problem I have is on drop backs.
- 31:35On Third and long. We are still pulling the damn
- 31:40guard to the back side of the formation in pass Pro.
- 31:46Get that shit out of the past Pro scheme.
- 31:49Get it out of there. I don't want to see it and if I
- 31:52gave up his only gave up two sacks on that and there was
- 31:56about to other quarterback hurries where Braxton's running
- 31:59for his life because of that damn scheme.
- 32:04I mean, this this isn't the season well-oiled machine of an
- 32:07offensive line that we were last year.
- 32:09The right hand side of that offensive line is still a very
- 32:13much, a work in progress. Keep it simple, keep it simple.
- 32:18I got one more thing, I'm going to throw a quote up down on
- 32:21Twitter last night for our buddy, being a garage.
- 32:23Someone we chat with off and on and it was this if the head ball
- 32:27coach really wants this job, he has to make the hard choices he
- 32:31does, and it's either take the plague.
- 32:33Call in to use away from it, which we spoke of, or you have
- 32:36to let him go. The head coach can take over the
- 32:39play calling, and show the passion to stay or he goes down
- 32:42with the ship. So to me if Justin Fuente really
- 32:45wants this job that, presser tomorrow morning, we're better
- 32:49here. Changes.
- 32:51Here's my thing, right? I don't think we're going to
- 32:52hear a change. I just don't And with that it to
- 32:57me, if you're somebody in the media, you would be like, why
- 33:01not, you're averaging this year. What do we averaging 2024 game?
- 33:10So many things right? 24-game, 2005 is 42, no 2121 on
- 33:17the number. We play North Carolina who gave
- 33:22up over almost 42. UVA, we played Middle Tennessee,
- 33:26who has a G5 team and we gave up a team that's given up 32
- 33:30Maryland who couldn't barely get 20 on Illinois's Friday night.
- 33:36There's a problem steering and then they threw the ball, all of
- 33:39all over the field and couldn't get any points.
- 33:41And, you know, our problem is we just we can't manufacture we've
- 33:46become so dinking, dunk. Like we can't manufacture big
- 33:49plays anymore in this offense, you know, we missed the Home Run
- 33:54threat that was too little Herbert last year.
- 33:57And without the without those big plays and without the
- 34:00ability to really drive the football down the field,
- 34:02consistently, you know, We look very, very much, an average
- 34:08offense to a below-average offense.
- 34:11And I'm, you know, you referenced Beamer auto garage
- 34:14there. I'm going to go ahead and
- 34:17reference the quote that Andy, bitter, put out there on Twitter
- 34:22saying it was a weird game because we had really no
- 34:24business winning the game. But we also have no business
- 34:27losing the game. It was it was a conundrum there,
- 34:31right? Yeah.
- 34:32We had no business, it being closed at the end and then It
- 34:36was closed at the end and how close we came on, multiple
- 34:39occasions to get in the ball in the end zone and coming up with
- 34:43bubkes. Yep.
- 34:44How do you lose that? And I'm going to say something
- 34:47about Braxton Burmeister here. And this I'm not this is not a
- 34:49knock, this is just stating the facts here.
- 34:52Okay? So right now the abilities of
- 34:56Braxton Burmeister especially in the passing game and driving the
- 34:59football down the field, it's limiting the offense, but at the
- 35:02same time, the skills that Braxton Burmeister brings to the
- 35:05table with his ability to escape and generate yards when
- 35:10nothing's there. Yeah.
- 35:12Is also the reason that the offense has had success what?
- 35:14So we're in a conundrum where he's generating offense that
- 35:18isn't there but he's also not taking advantage of the
- 35:21potential offense that is there. Yeah.
- 35:24And that's positive because how many, how many college teams
- 35:29would kill for a guy that can keep plays alive with their
- 35:32feet? And if needed if needed Scramble
- 35:37for 5 to 25 yards at a time, I would say about half the teams
- 35:43in the country would kill for that and we have it but we don't
- 35:47have the offensive staff to you know bring it out.
- 35:53Yep. Why not spread it out?
- 35:56John, come on. You want to as long as we have,
- 36:00you know, corn. Yeah.
- 36:02Instead of spreading it out, you run him to half the field.
- 36:05You Oh, he's down any potential running lanes for Braxton and
- 36:09also any passing lanes for Braxton?
- 36:10So yeah, genius. Absolutely genius, genius.
- 36:14You know, a couple things did come out of for wishon, you
- 36:18know, Bryce and continue showing scrambling ability, Blackshear,
- 36:23and Holston showing the versatility especially in the
- 36:28second half. Yeah, big big run by blacks year
- 36:32to get the touchdown. Great job by Holston, getting
- 36:35the catch on. That dump making a guy Miss
- 36:39running through a couple Windows to get into the end zone,
- 36:42because if you two went down in the five, we would be talking
- 36:45about four drives and not three. We do our own things really.
- 36:49The other piece Caleb Smith yesterday, 70-plus yards
- 36:53receiving and it was one of those things in that as you're
- 36:57watching us, like, okay, where are these routes just in the
- 37:01normal. In the normal offense, they
- 37:05weren't, why do we, why do we have to be incomplete catch-up
- 37:09mode for this to come out? Like he looked like a decent,
- 37:12stick mover, which is what we all thought he was going to be
- 37:15what we need last year when he was getting some snaps in the
- 37:19early part of the season last year.
- 37:20Like okay, well he's going to come in, he's going to be the
- 37:22stick mover, you know, he's got good hands, good body and he's
- 37:28out there and he ended up you know he had a he had a good
- 37:30game. Assistant when targeted brings
- 37:33the ball in when targeted. But we for some reason in the
- 37:38passing game we just don't get the ball to our Playmakers
- 37:41consistently. Well, the Central Asian Games.
- 37:45The sad part is this, he is a perfect complement to what Trey
- 37:49and taken do be an explosive getting in space.
- 37:52Big play guys. He's the got right.
- 37:55Yeah right one of them on Jet Sweep screens.
- 37:58Having them go downfield. He's that perfect midpoint where
- 38:02okay, its third and fourth, you know, listen Alphabet, exact
- 38:10watches, not Target in the rest of the year.
- 38:12Listen, write that down into being Final on for Caleb Smith
- 38:18over under reception take the under but it's that whole piece
- 38:21of if you have those guys trying to do explosive, things getting
- 38:25down field and you third and four will.
- 38:27Okay. He's your bail out, right?
- 38:30But still don't be afraid to run those other guys over the top on
- 38:34deeper plays because if nothing else you're going to make His
- 38:36job easier. But you know, I think we're
- 38:40regressing about that sort of stuff Prime.
- 38:42That's okay. But let me let's wrap up a
- 38:43little bit here on the offense. I think we've kind of talked
- 38:46about a little bit but the big thing is that, you know, Zero
- 38:49Energy out. The gate felt really
- 38:52inconsistent with the play calls were in executing.
- 38:54Well, situationally we were also well situation.
- 38:59The whole situation was always like that.
- 39:01Very rarely situationally. Do we absolutely Kill it.
- 39:07Yes, usually below average to severely below average on this.
- 39:11It's either scary season or like, oh, that was not what we
- 39:15wanted. Exactly, so yeah.
- 39:19All right guys. Before we do take a look at the
- 39:22defensive side of the ball, we are going to take a quick pause
- 39:26and have a message from our digital Partners.
- 39:28Alright folks we're back here. We're going to move over to the
- 39:31defensive side of the ball. We kind of wanted to out the
- 39:34gate focus on off. Offense, because we feel like
- 39:36that was where, where things really?
- 39:39That's where we lost the game. That's where the game was
- 39:41decided defense. Yeah, kind of a tale of two
- 39:44halves. We had a pretty pretty rough.
- 39:48Go of it to start out with especially the the opening play
- 39:52for the West Virginia Mountaineers offense.
- 39:55Well 75 yard touchdown run from Lady Browne someone we
- 39:58mentioned. Yeah good back.
- 40:01We mentioned his name 1,000-yard rusher last year Brian and that
- 40:05play. You got a bronze, got the note
- 40:07here, they schemed acts out of position and it was easily and
- 40:12the first thing I saw on Twitter and it was hilarious.
- 40:15Brian was back sucks and I'm text you, I'm like wasn't backs
- 40:20doing his job because if he stays where he is, they're going
- 40:23to flip that to the tight end and that tight ends going to
- 40:26have a huge scene to run up. So it was one of those He's
- 40:31doing his responsibilities responsibilities if he comes
- 40:34across go with him. So a couple things here you know
- 40:42it looks like there was a little miscommunication between I think
- 40:45it was taped a daily and index there as far as who was going to
- 40:49pick up the tight end as he flexed out in motion.
- 40:53The bigger problem to me is that at the point of attack, Tisdale
- 40:58got blocked and And not see your people as well as a little bit
- 41:02early in kind of getting into a fit and then unfortunately he
- 41:08was where lady wasn't big hole Dax tried to come back across
- 41:15the formation a little bit late there.
- 41:17Got his hands on him but that was about all he could do.
- 41:20Yeah, Off to the Races and touchdown.
- 41:23A after what we had done on offense with the huge screen and
- 41:27then basically nothing after that.
- 41:30That and that crowd was electric.
- 41:34Oh yeah. But they punched Us in the mouth
- 41:36there and they went from 10 to 11 real quick.
- 41:41Heck. Yeah.
- 41:42And again, on that play it, it was a great design by them in a
- 41:47little miscommunication by us and wrong Gap fit, it is what it
- 41:52is. So you, you brush yourself off,
- 41:56we did not see any other runs like that the rest of the day.
- 42:00But Levi, Brown continued to get us in multiple ways.
- 42:04I think the guy was about 180 All Purpose, which is pretty
- 42:07crazy. And we talked about, you talked
- 42:09about his past catching ability and that was on display along
- 42:12with his speed. So, you know, and as you know,
- 42:15he had to be at a big damn game. Yeah, huge game, huge game and I
- 42:19mean, I know, I know half the rushing yards came on that one
- 42:21play, but I mean, he was still consistent the rest of the night
- 42:24as well. The rest of the afternoon I
- 42:26should say, as well. And I mean, Really.
- 42:30I mean, great game by him. We had we did a pretty good job
- 42:33of slowing him down in the second half, but the first half
- 42:36he kind of owned us. Yes he did.
- 42:38Alright, then their next drive after we go three and out where
- 42:41we looked blase on offense like literally.
- 42:44I think the you texted me vanilla ice cream run.
- 42:50You're like my little we doing here like we're down they just
- 42:53hit us in the mouth think of something they come back.
- 42:56It looked exactly like one of those early series against
- 42:59Middle Tennessee. State last week that we called
- 43:01vanilla is hell and it was round 2 of that vanilla against the
- 43:05team with the vision, a lot more Division, 1 players, and
- 43:08whatever you want to thank of West Virginia.
- 43:10And what they do, they did have one of the best defenses in the
- 43:13Big 12 last year with some really good players now.
- 43:16No, you know, you can't come out vanilla, all right?
- 43:21But back to the defense, so we Pont, they start moving the
- 43:25ball, they get about the Midfield and they take a shot.
- 43:30Yeah. And it was a little stutter move
- 43:33Armani bid on it. We're in man.
- 43:35Right there were not enough own a big.
- 43:39It was cover one. We had my fear people's deep.
- 43:42Everybody else is manned up Armani bit, a little bit on the
- 43:47on the stutter actually had really good recovery.
- 43:50He was still in position to make the play.
- 43:51There was a little bit of push off by the receiver, but Armani
- 43:55did not turn around to make a play on the ball.
- 43:58Probably why they let that go. Go.
- 44:00I mean that was a good catch by the, by the West Virginia, wide
- 44:03receiver there and they got a touchdown there up 14.
- 44:06Nothing and we look like we can't do shit and they are just
- 44:10fucking moving the ball up and down the field on us.
- 44:13They're absolutely rolling. You know, right there and the
- 44:17one thing out and I put on here, are we really in, man?
- 44:23This is an Airaid concept. It's a power are a concept.
- 44:26Y'all saw how they ran the ball? The air raid was created by how
- 44:31mommy in the 1990s to offset when you don't have the most
- 44:36talented receivers and you're playing better defensive backs.
- 44:39It is a concept to take advantage of that, because if
- 44:43you have really good Corners, you can consistently be in man
- 44:48coverage. It takes advantage.
- 44:51We saw J Hamm starting to go to the Zone scheme.
- 44:54We're in really the last few years of buds 10-year allows me
- 44:59Concepts. If we go back to ECU, Brian when
- 45:02Lincoln was there he would eat Us Alive and but good cover
- 45:06zero. Eat Us Alive 0.1 he would it
- 45:09would be rough for me too rough afternoon into us to come out
- 45:13and man against it. It was almost like this thing of
- 45:16if they're going to hit you they're going to probably try to
- 45:19hit your early. I'm one of these force them to
- 45:24drive, especially after what we saw both in North Carolina and
- 45:28Middle Tennessee State. They have some drives, but since
- 45:32we're primarily sitting in different Zone schemes on
- 45:34coverages, they get about to the 30.
- 45:37And then when the shots couldn't be taken, they couldn't go
- 45:41anywhere. Because essentially the field
- 45:44got smaller, the guys who are running the back angle, okay, we
- 45:47don't need to send 15 or 20 yards off.
- 45:50We can say you know we are we don't need to be 25 or 30 yards.
- 45:53All we could say in 10 to 15 because they don't have as much
- 45:56room behind us. Yeah.
- 45:58And we didn't know what we had worked so well and I didn't get
- 46:01it. Yeah, it was kind of a flip of
- 46:03what we saw last week in the first half, where we were
- 46:06stubbornly sticking to playing off and all this stuff.
- 46:10And then in this week, we were kind of stubbornly by sticking
- 46:14to a man late here as well. So, we finally got back to a
- 46:18little more Zone against them as the game progressed.
- 46:22You know, we had talked about some of the knife Concepts that
- 46:25they like to run to the twins side and they took advantage of
- 46:30that. Some are really in the game, got
- 46:31us into Micmac mismatches. You know, then we had the the
- 46:36drive that got them up to 21. When that when they took the
- 46:40when he got the third touchdown, that was some of the worst.
- 46:43Act laying, I've seen this season, is that?
- 46:46So the worst acting I've seen this team, dude.
- 46:48I mean, that, that, that was reserved for 2018 and 2020, but
- 46:54it was some, it was some pretty bad tackling on that drive.
- 46:57We had Condor try to go for a Kill Shot, then they ended up
- 47:00getting the first down. Then later, Connor was matched
- 47:04up in the slot. They threw that little quick
- 47:07hitch and he came in out of control.
- 47:10Missed the tackle ends up skewed in.
- 47:13The touch down there. So we had a couple other
- 47:15interior plays where I think Dax miss one tackle.
- 47:18I think Tisdale missed a tackle. Yeah we miss.
- 47:22So just a bad drive for tackling overall and we got to clean that
- 47:25up because we had done pretty good job of tackling and
- 47:27bringing guys down, you know, once we've got in position
- 47:31through the first two weeks, it was disappointing to see a
- 47:34little bit of backslide there even though we did clean a lot
- 47:37of that up in the second half. Yeah, and it was super
- 47:39noticeable. My buddy, Mike from work,
- 47:41actually hit me up and he's like Did we bring back 2018?
- 47:45Tackling drills because it was so significantly noticeable.
- 47:49The first two games, how we weren't missing tackles.
- 47:51It was forms. It was and it's one of those
- 47:54things that's like you want guys to be jacked, right?
- 47:57But you don't want guys to be doing dumb, things that can
- 47:59potentially help the other team, and that's what happened on that
- 48:04drive especially. And, and some people can say,
- 48:06well, you know, well, the first two drives.
- 48:08Well, the first two drives, they hit us with bombs.
- 48:11Yep, there was no chance to tackle.
- 48:13These drives, we start changing things up, put us in good
- 48:17positions to make tackles but stop them.
- 48:19And we just with it's like they reverted like, okay, we need to
- 48:22hit these guys hard. They're beating us like no.
- 48:25We need to hit these guys and get them down because they're
- 48:28beating us. It means they get more points.
- 48:30It's going to become tougher that will limit the bleeding.
- 48:33I think that's the big thing we were in the point now where if
- 48:35we can stop the bleeding, we might have something, and then
- 48:38you get that touchdown, they get the field goal.
- 48:41I mean, It was a very demoralizing, first half, but on
- 48:46both sides of the football and the fact that it was as close as
- 48:49it was, you know, really is a testament to some of the second
- 48:54quarter adjustments that Justin Hamilton made and then obviously
- 48:58when we go into the second half, I mean that was a completely
- 49:01different looking defense. I mean, I know they get a Bend,
- 49:03don't break drive to open things off and then they really lock
- 49:07shit down. After that, it's true, the
- 49:09problem. What do we what do we just?
- 49:10What did I just say when we were going in?
- 49:12When You said it, we eat started getting back in the zone Concept
- 49:16in that early Drive. They got down to the 27, the
- 49:19Deep shots weren't there. Yep, use it for a stop.
- 49:22They stop the hit a 44-yard field and that's all the scoring
- 49:24they did in the second half. That's all the scoring they did
- 49:27in the second half. I mean, because I'm a native
- 49:31time of possession in the second half.
- 49:33We dominated time of possession. In the second.
- 49:35We wanted for the whole game we want to believe it was
- 49:38completely dominant in the second half, but the whole piece
- 49:41is like you have This you have this defense in place that will
- 49:45stop this type of offense and it took you a whole crap, give
- 49:49again, give Hamilton credit to say.
- 49:51We got to go back to this to have any shot and it worked.
- 49:57And you know, we look on here and defense continued to step up
- 50:02making stops making their Drive short, not getting them, big
- 50:05plays and then you know, you have the sack fumble by the
- 50:10Garment is that we already hit on a little bit.
- 50:12So one. Garvin has played great and for
- 50:17one week, I was looking at a Mari bar, know, as being the
- 50:19star of that defensive line, but really through three games, it's
- 50:23been Taiwan garbett. Well, borrow had a flight was an
- 50:25over yesterday nothing on the stats.
- 50:27When we saw him out there getting attention, maybe that's
- 50:31where he is right now. He's an attention getter, which
- 50:34is good for the other guys to Feast on the line.
- 50:36It's helping Taiwan garbage. Get those one-on-ones and he's
- 50:40taking advantage of it. He's had three really good game
- 50:42so far. Our he had a good game against
- 50:45UNC just, you know, borrow had a better game overall, but garbage
- 50:50has been steady player playing at a high level 33.
- 50:54Great, three games. I really like what I'm seeing
- 50:56from him and, you know, hopefully we get Barney back on
- 50:59the stat sheet as we keep going along here.
- 51:02But overall, I'm happy with the defensive play, you know, you
- 51:08need Jolly the one, don't say the play The Adjustment because
- 51:13The play in, the first point was atrocious, The Adjustment, and
- 51:16those guys buying in and still playing their butts off.
- 51:20I mean playing their butts off to give us a chance at the end
- 51:24to win. Should not be looked down upon.
- 51:28Yeah. Absolutely.
- 51:30And and they really went out there.
- 51:32Make plays. And while we're talking about
- 51:34making plays the Waller interception went from our
- 51:39chances were, very slim to our chances are pretty good.
- 51:45Obviously, we did make the most of them, but our chances went
- 51:48from slim to very good of getting the ball into a ranger.
- 51:51We could put it in the end zone. Yeah, I mean in that play, he
- 51:55sniffed it, he where he was, is he sniffed that play out?
- 52:00um, the way Waller has played through three games outside in
- 52:04inside, he is slowly making himself a little more money
- 52:11every week. He's making a case for at least,
- 52:16two days, probably day one in the draft.
- 52:20And and that's that's a credit to him for getting healthy and
- 52:25working hard and coming back in and just play in his style of
- 52:29game. He's been aggressive when he
- 52:31needs to be. He's been tightened coverage
- 52:33when he needs to be, he's really been doing, do Doing everything
- 52:37that you can ask of him. He's been playing in the slot
- 52:39against some of the, the more athletic slot receivers of West,
- 52:43Virginia and North Carolina and doing a good job and doing a
- 52:48very good job. Yes.
- 52:49I mean because nowadays A Nickelback in the NFL are guys
- 52:54who are getting paid somewhere between like seven and ten
- 52:56million where, you know, years ago, the Nickelback was the
- 53:00lowest man on the totem pole, right?
- 53:02Like yeah, you're like third string, you're like two seconds.
- 53:06Guy that can play. Okay well they go throughout we
- 53:09were matched up with like the Aaron more heads of the world
- 53:11in. Yeah, the the early 2000s now
- 53:14you're matching up with probably at least the second best
- 53:17receiver on the team. If not the best, very true man,
- 53:20very other times. I mean, the slot has really come
- 53:23a long went from kind of that, you know, extra wrinkle to an
- 53:28impact position. Very much like the tight end
- 53:31has. So the guys that work inside,
- 53:34the, the numbers and inside the hash is Are really the some of
- 53:38the better athletes on the field now and the fact that Waller can
- 53:41slide in and just lock up at both, those positions is really
- 53:44impressive and is going to make him some money exactly.
- 53:48But overall defensive an average day I'm not a borderline F first
- 53:56half a borderline a second half and in you know what where it
- 54:05frustrates you Is you see a guy who is in his second year?
- 54:10Coordinating a side of the ball. Make adjustments that quickly.
- 54:15That's where it frustrates you because the other guy has been a
- 54:20offensive coordinator entitled. Close to nine ten years now and
- 54:24he doesn't any and yet we're going back where we were 20
- 54:29minutes ago y'all. But it has to be done because
- 54:32hurt, we're circling back because the big problem.
- 54:36The big consistent problem with the games like this.
- 54:40Are we lose to an opponent that on paper?
- 54:43We should at least match up against and we come out and lay
- 54:47eggs against it, goes back to the coordinator.
- 54:51I mean we can't keep saying well execution will excuse.
- 54:54You have it at some point. The coach is responsible for
- 54:58some of this, right? Well, the coaches told you that
- 55:00he's a coach, didn't get them prepared, where they were
- 55:02comfortable to execute in the game or they're delivering them.
- 55:06Play calls that aren't good in the situation that They're
- 55:10facing well that's the best of point right there.
- 55:13They're getting a play called that even if they execute it
- 55:16perfectly. The results are going to be
- 55:20minimal. Don't know, it's almost more.
- 55:24They're giving him a play called where they have to.
- 55:26They have to execute perfectly in order for it to be a success
- 55:31and that should not be. Why are we putting our players
- 55:34in like, zero margin for error situations?
- 55:37Well, you've talked about that when you played that your head
- 55:41coach lasso, see his goals, it seemed like every time when he
- 55:45called a play was the goal of the play is even if a few people
- 55:49mess up. We're Going to have a positive
- 55:52outcome. Something's going to be there.
- 55:55Yeah and it seems like for us is if a few people mess up it is
- 56:03usually I'm not going to see catastrophic although sometimes
- 56:07you know, the Trey Turner to me was catastrophic when we were at
- 56:09the three, we went back to the sticks which you know,
- 56:12completely changed the game, the play calls.
- 56:16So it's always it's always a setback.
- 56:20The plays that have to be executed where every single
- 56:23person has to execute perfectly, or it's not going to be a good
- 56:26play continued setbacks, and when you go continued setbacks,
- 56:31what happens? This place you get smaller.
- 56:33Well, we can't from the six. We only can do this this and
- 56:36this. So, you know, again, I hope
- 56:40tomorrow, I'm sure me. And you Brian, while we're at
- 56:43work, we're going to probably if they stream it.
- 56:47Please stream it, please stream the press conference tomorrow
- 56:51because I don't have time in my day.
- 56:54We are, we have, we have Real World jobs.
- 57:00We have families. We like to spend time with.
- 57:03We do we eat dinner. Kids have homework.
- 57:07Other kids. We had activities, please stream
- 57:10it. So not at 3:00 as we're rushing
- 57:13to get off work and do things we're trying to find it to to
- 57:17put it on triple speed so we can hear everything is possible
- 57:21straight line. Let's have a meeting tomorrow.
- 57:24I have a meeting tomorrow. I don't care.
- 57:26I don't think we were true mid and our picks this week.
- 57:33There we go. 55, you can either take us or you can flip a coin
- 57:38ladies and gentlemen, you're right Ron 1616 on the air 15:17,
- 57:43we whiffed on UCF. Louisville.
- 57:45That was a heck of a game, the pieces out all that a night.
- 57:51Manny Diaz is officially on the hot.
- 57:53Seat. Yeah, if they lose to Michigan
- 57:56State by like three, Okay. They guess I'll let Big Ten
- 58:01team, you know? Yeah.
- 58:04You can't go out there and get shellacked by Michigan State.
- 58:06Hammered? What is it 3817?
- 58:09Yeah, he create. Can't put that one out there.
- 58:13So do you is not back to you as you know, there, believe it or
- 58:17not. I'll say I was wrong about this
- 58:20tea. I thought they were going to be.
- 58:22I thought they were going to take a step.
- 58:23I thought they were going to be right there with with UNC and us
- 58:28to, you know, when the coalition I wanted to run, they played
- 58:31three out of conference game. Think it is true that they still
- 58:34have a chance to win the coastal, but they are not a team
- 58:37that is going to press Clemson at all.
- 58:39And even though let's talk about Clemson laying a dud against
- 58:43Georgia Tech but still come away with the win Come Away with the
- 58:45but I think those delays screwed that up.
- 58:47I mean I mean what time does that game in its start at 3:30
- 58:51at end of what like nine. Yeah I mean it was it was it was
- 58:55ridiculous. No it really gave Georgia Tech.
- 59:00Any any and all chances that they possibly had to pull a
- 59:04miracle. I still don't know what Georgia
- 59:07Tech. What would Georgia Tech is?
- 59:10No, we're still the most confounding team in the history
- 59:14of college football. Brian you might take them off
- 59:18the board right next week. I mean, yeah.
- 59:21Like we're not, we're not picking Georgia Tech.
- 59:23I refuse to find some like, no. I'm gonna, I'm gonna find some
- 59:26random bronze going to look at a D3 game ticket before he picks
- 59:30enjoy. If you say Georgia Tech, I say
- 59:32pass for on the other hand is indie game, the FSU weight gain.
- 59:40I mean, FSU I had somebody send me a message or they might win
- 59:45three games this year. Um, hold on, let me get a kiss
- 59:48my cousin down in South Carolina.
- 59:50If you're listening tonight, he sent me.
- 59:54A where is it here? So their own 3 first time since
- 59:5976 Bobby's first year there, and they might not win two games,
- 1:00:05because I Louisville next week. Louisville after looking at
- 1:00:11competent, the first two weeks, looked more confident.
- 1:00:14They look like they can beat FSU, Yep, it looks it's
- 1:00:19literally Syracuse and UMass. Like the way UNC looked last
- 1:00:23night. I think they're going to lay the
- 1:00:25hammer on them Clemson's. Going to lay the hammer.
- 1:00:28I think NC State's defense can stop them.
- 1:00:31Yeah, well maybe they maybe they beat Miami or beast like it's
- 1:00:36it's one of those things though that it's kind of sad because
- 1:00:42college football's y'all can throw something and you can hate
- 1:00:46me all you want. When Miami and Fs you were good
- 1:00:50college. Football's better the third a
- 1:00:52brass key in there too. When they're good programs
- 1:00:55college football is a better sport in general and mean, hey,
- 1:01:02they lost about 21 and I know wakes of pretty solid team this
- 1:01:06year, but the athletes and shouldn't lose by 21.
- 1:01:09They just shouldn't. What else Brion here.
- 1:01:13The battle of the smart teams Bryan won that one.
- 1:01:17I Big dude, guys. Can someone explain to you to
- 1:01:21me? Duke is now your Georgia Tech as
- 1:01:30true, man. Um, a Brian, yep, Temple got
- 1:01:34slaughtered. We cannot look about that.
- 1:01:38I was wrong on that one. But you said outright, what if
- 1:01:40you want to just take us. As I said that was my potential
- 1:01:42upset of the week. I didn't say out, right?
- 1:01:44When I said that was a potential upset, you said upset, you now I
- 1:01:50won't say this three of the bigger ranked games week He
- 1:01:53crushed that. So and we agreed, all what we
- 1:01:57agreed on two of the three Auburn Penn State Penn State
- 1:02:02wins by 8. You know, if not, I'm still
- 1:02:09trying to figure out or when they have some good running
- 1:02:10backs and it's bone X doing dumb stuff.
- 1:02:14The Florida Bama game. Can we go back real quick to
- 1:02:17Auburn? Okay, the fade.
- 1:02:21Okay. I must have missed that last
- 1:02:22night. It was the the fourth down call
- 1:02:27and they call a fade. So oh, why didn't we run one?
- 1:02:33No, I'm not saying that I'm saying, okay, well that's a
- 1:02:36decent third down call, but it's a 4th Down call and you give
- 1:02:40your quarterback. Exactly one read.
- 1:02:43Well, can I say something? I would have rather given us,
- 1:02:47the faith in the Sprint, out on fourth down.
- 1:02:49I'll agree with that because I'll note a and Trey can go make
- 1:02:54that play. And I know BBQ throws a pretty
- 1:02:57good fade. I know we at least be, it'll at
- 1:02:58least be there where they have a potential to make a play
- 1:03:01exactly. Um, the Florida Bama game.
- 1:03:04I missed the first half but to see the way Florida fought back
- 1:03:08in the swamp with electric. I mean Emma is a flawed team.
- 1:03:15I don't. I don't think anybody out west
- 1:03:19can catch him. I just I don't think so.
- 1:03:22My ask me they think Pittman's for real.
- 1:03:24We'll learn about Arkansas. I think.
- 1:03:27When they play em, although am freshman quarterbacks done
- 1:03:30pretty much until November but I feel like Bama can be gotten.
- 1:03:37And Florida had the right ideas and just put them a quarter and
- 1:03:42a half and welcome to adjust can get there.
- 1:03:45Yep, they were a little there, a little Lower than they needed to
- 1:03:48be adjusting. They didn't have a great initial
- 1:03:51game plan. Yeah.
- 1:03:53But everything, they did in game.
- 1:03:55Took away. What Alabama likes to do, and
- 1:03:57that's what you have to do. Very true.
- 1:04:00And then the late-night, probably the one if we would
- 1:04:02recorded last night, would have been watching BYU Zona BYU wins
- 1:04:07again, bad day for the Pac-12, they're ranked team to of,
- 1:04:12they're ranked teams lost. I feel like if they had another
- 1:04:16FCS lost, To so not great there. But hey, we're average this
- 1:04:22week. Continue to come here.
- 1:04:24If anybody wants to take one of our parlays, go for it.
- 1:04:29Anything breaking Brian, anybody gotten fired anything.
- 1:04:34Yeah, you hope like wishful thinking, wishful thinking.
- 1:04:37No, no, we haven't. We haven't seen the, the old
- 1:04:41kick in the boot to brag, or Nelson yet.
- 1:04:44So unfortunately, he is still, our offensive coordinator at
- 1:04:47Until tomorrow. Well, but unfortunately probably
- 1:04:51longer than that, probably longer than that.
- 1:04:55Probably until this regime is done.
- 1:04:58And if history is telling us anything then yeah he's going to
- 1:05:06be riding it out until until he's done.
- 1:05:09Because this is what I'll say for Justin Fuente doing this is
- 1:05:16going to make him a less desirable candidate at his next
- 1:05:19job because I think there's going to be a if they're in
- 1:05:23there. Go look at and they're going to
- 1:05:25ask you Brian Justin when parts of your team.
- 1:05:28Team are failing continuously. What are you going to do?
- 1:05:31And what's he going to say Brian?
- 1:05:33What can he say? When they say, why don't you
- 1:05:35fire that guy? I tell him to try harder, use
- 1:05:39grit, stick-to-itiveness and try harder.
- 1:05:44I'm a Survivor now. What do what he needs to do?
- 1:05:46Is, do what Brian Kelly did at Notre-Dame?
- 1:05:48And fire half his staff and bring in new guys, that can
- 1:05:53improve in to get the job done. Somewhere else.
- 1:05:55And keep the train moving. Yeah, he had three times to do
- 1:06:01that. He had to do it at.
- 1:06:02He had a chance to do it after 18 after 19.
- 1:06:04And after 20, he didn't Dip, he didn't and that's on him.
- 1:06:09That's why I'm saying, I'm almost past the corn stage, it's
- 1:06:13all its corns fault because he's got a boss and his boss is
- 1:06:17essentially letting him do what he wants.
- 1:06:19That is what it is. Are we getting offensive
- 1:06:22consultant in there again? No, because they'll be a fight
- 1:06:26again. I want to fight fight was good
- 1:06:31to fight. Didn't get us Round Up, heckuva,
- 1:06:34heckuva, heckuva string of all winds and stuff.
- 1:06:36They're all right. Y'all.
- 1:06:39I think we're going to be wrapping this up because we got
- 1:06:42work tomorrow in an eight, you know, Wednesday night is Monday.
- 1:06:47It's not Thursday or Friday morning and Friday.
- 1:06:49Exactly. So that's going to wrap up this
- 1:06:52episode of The Boundary Corner podcast.
