- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good afternoon from the chicken coop because
- 0:31you know, it's that season where we shoot them in the afternoon
- 0:33when we can't get out here early in the morning.
- 0:36It's either the garage or this. So here we are and the girls are
- 0:41having their snack. So you are joining them for
- 0:43sunflower seeds and freeze dried worms.
- 0:46Anyway, today we are talking about confidence because I heard
- 0:50a quote recently and it was a take on it that I I am kind of
- 0:55not opposed to, but I just don't disagree.
- 0:57I mean, I don't agree with it and I feel like it's important
- 1:02to tell the truth when I don't agree with things.
- 1:04So this quote was the the only way confidence can grow is when
- 1:09we are willing to be without it. And while that may be true in
- 1:13certain situations, I disagree that it's the only way.
- 1:18I I don't like absolutes, especially when it comes to
- 1:20emotions. Because let's face it, when
- 1:23you're a human being and you are operating in a world of
- 1:26emotions, there are no absolutes.
- 1:28Things can multiple things can be true at the same time.
- 1:31Things can be wonky, Things can be different for each person.
- 1:35Every interpretation is different.
- 1:37So when we say something in an absolute frame, it it puts
- 1:41people under pressure and it makes them feel like there's
- 1:44something wrong with them. And that I just never like to do
- 1:47because, you know, coaching, we live in the real world and
- 1:50people tell us things that they don't tell other people.
- 1:54And when you're a coach, you often hear, you know, oh, I
- 1:59won't, I won't disagree with that person, but I'll tell you
- 2:02the truth. And I find that so interesting,
- 2:05fascinating and such a blessing that I get to be behind the
- 2:08curtain and see what's really happening with people.
- 2:11So when I hear that it, it makes me smile because I know I'm able
- 2:18to really get in there and help people.
- 2:19So when I hear something like the only way confidence can grow
- 2:22is when we're willing to be without it, I kind of go, I
- 2:26don't know about that because I don't think that's the only way.
- 2:31I feel as though we have multiple ways we can cross
- 2:34pollinate it. And for me, confidence is
- 2:38something that comes from all different areas of our life.
- 2:42You know, right from the time you're little, you start to
- 2:44build skills. And it starts when you're
- 2:47crawling. You know, at first you, you
- 2:49watch a baby and they're up on their knees and their hands and
- 2:52they can't go forward and they can't go backwards.
- 2:54And they're just there and they're rocking and they're
- 2:56trying to figure it out. And then they take a few little
- 2:58movements forward and all of a sudden they start to gain some
- 3:02confidence and then they're off and going.
- 3:04So we as human beings can go all the way back to the time we were
- 3:08an infant. Like, think about this for a
- 3:10second. We can go all the way back to
- 3:12the time we were an infant and say, hold on.
- 3:15I have things that I can find beliefs in that show I can have
- 3:20confidence in myself. Like I have confidence when I
- 3:22stand up, I can walk or I have confidence that from I can put a
- 3:26spoon in my hand and I can move it up to my mouth.
- 3:29And, and you know, there are tons of places that we can do
- 3:32this in our lives. But instead we want to look for
- 3:35these big enormous things and say, well, I, I don't have any
- 3:39confidence in myself that I can stand on stage and I can do this
- 3:43because it's so far outside of our comfort zone.
- 3:47And for me, you know, I can cross pollinate those things.
- 3:51I can remember times when this worked.
- 3:54So if you start thinking about all the simple little things you
- 3:58have confidence in daily about you know, how to drive yourself
- 4:02to work, you know how to get in a car and drive.
- 4:04At one point in time, you didn't know how to drive and you did it
- 4:07and you did it with excitement because most of us couldn't wait
- 4:10to drive. We all wanted to drive so badly.
- 4:12And we did it with excitement and we had no clue what we were
- 4:14doing and we had to learn. And even when we were learning,
- 4:17we were still excited about it. Like for most of us, we while we
- 4:21were anxious about learning and getting there, our license was
- 4:25such a thing that we were so enthralled with it.
- 4:29We were gaining more and more knowledge and we were just
- 4:32confident that we were going to crush that test.
- 4:35Well, now guess what? Why can't you take that
- 4:37confidence that you did then, that that bravado you had then
- 4:41and bring it forward with you? You can.
- 4:43You just have to remember it. You have to remember who was the
- 4:45person who decided to drive. I remember when my dad was
- 4:48teaching me how to drive a stick and I was terrified how to drive
- 4:51a stick. And he said, no, you have to
- 4:52learn how to drive a stick. You have to know this stuff.
- 4:55And I was like, OK, and he took me out on this hill and it was
- 4:58like dark at night. And he's like, OK, let's stop
- 5:00the car and don't use the brake, just use the clutch and the gas.
- 5:04And he was so adamant about me doing this.
- 5:06And I remember I was scared and I was uncomfortable, but I had
- 5:10confidence in him that he knew what he was doing.
- 5:12And he's like, just listen for it, feel it, you'll hear it.
- 5:16And he kept explaining it. And once I did that one little
- 5:19thing, I thought, man, if I can hold this car on the hill, I can
- 5:23pretty much do anything. And then it's the same thing
- 5:25when I fire walked with Tony Robbins so many times and taught
- 5:28thousands of people to fire walk.
- 5:30Guess what? Once you fire walk, you're like,
- 5:32OK, I've got that confidence I can bring forward with me.
- 5:36So it's not just about the only way it can grow is one way is
- 5:42saying, oh, you have to be without it.
- 5:44No, cross pollinate it. Go to a time when it was easier
- 5:48and you had it. Bring that forward with you.
- 5:50That's a game changer, my friends.
- 5:52All right, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll see you
- 5:54tomorrow. Bye.
