- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Up next
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning. Thank you
- 0:13Speaker 1: for joining us. It is almost the weekend. Please hang
- 0:16Speaker 1: in there. Two more days to cloud. I am so happy.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Why are you making it into an army song? It's true.
- 0:22Speaker 1: It is an army song, right? Anyway, we're going to
- 0:24Speaker 1: kick it off with Na Horan and DPRE and stay tuned.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I'm actually really liking that song, to be honest, and
- 0:35Speaker 1: Madonna is how old this year? She's like in her 60s, actually,
- 0:40Speaker 1: hang on, Madonna age. She is 67, 67.
- 0:46Speaker 1: No, wait, she turned 67 this year or she is
- 0:50Speaker 1: turning 68. Her birthday is one week after NDP 16th
- 0:55Speaker 1: of August. Ah, yes, I see that. I see that. Wow, wow, she,
- 1:00Speaker 1: she's still killing it. Someone pushing 70. 1958 gave us
- 1:06Speaker 1: two global icons, Michael Jackson and Madonna. Oh no, sorry,
- 1:11Speaker 1: Michael Jackson was, sorry, I thought your father was born in.
- 1:16Speaker 1: At least I never say your mother, right?
- 1:19Speaker 1: Michael Jackson was born 29th of August, Madonna was born
- 1:22Speaker 1: 16th of August, and my mom a year later, 1959,
- 1:26Speaker 1: 29th of August last year and my dad are the
- 1:35Speaker 1: same age.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Both SGI boys. It must have crossed paths back then.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'm very sure, yeah. Tomorrow, actually, we are less than
- 1:45Speaker 1: 2 days away to Media Corp's cloud nine. The likes
- 1:47Speaker 1: of Robert, we've got the likes of Kiara, Y Lucas, 50/50,
- 1:52Speaker 1: M Bhold. Tomorrow live on our show at just past
- 1:56Speaker 1: 9:00 a.m. we're going live on TikTok as well. We
- 1:59Speaker 1: have a special guest joining us, the very same person
- 2:02Speaker 1: that gave you this song.
- 2:09Speaker 1: We got Max joining us live in the studio for
- 2:12Speaker 1: a quick chat and interview.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Very thankful he said yes. So tomorrow he will be here.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So do not forget to tune in at just past
- 2:21Speaker 1: 9:00 a.m. Hopefully that makes your Friday, and you can
- 2:23Speaker 1: catch him live at Media Corp's Cloud nine on Saturday.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Limited tickets still available for you over at Ticketmaster, or
- 2:30Speaker 1: you can do take part in some competitions that our
- 2:33Speaker 1: friends maybe over at Gomo by SingTel are.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Running, maybe you could win a ticket for yourself or
- 2:38Speaker 1: 3 other friends, and you can come on down to
- 2:41Speaker 1: Saturday over at Arena at the Expo and enjoy 8
- 2:44Speaker 1: different acts at a music festival that just costs $28. Now,
- 2:48Speaker 1: having a great start to your Thursday so far, 7th
- 2:51Speaker 1: of May, by the way. If anything, the phone lines
- 2:54Speaker 1: will be open in just a bit. You can give
- 2:56Speaker 1: your school a shout.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Shout out and give a special message to your teachers, friends,
- 3:01Speaker 1: your favorite canteen uncle, or anything about your school. Tell
- 3:04Speaker 1: me what's fantastic about it and hopefully, one day, Sonia
- 3:07Speaker 1: and I can go on down to your school and
- 3:09Speaker 1: give you a 987 school invasion you'll never, ever forget. Now,
- 3:14Speaker 1: being a celebrity, especially in Hollywood and Korea, it's never easy.
- 3:20Speaker 1: They do a lot of skincare stuff. That's alright, but
- 3:24Speaker 1: then some might go the extra mile and do a
- 3:26Speaker 1: bit of plastic surgery, do a bit of Botox, put
- 3:29Speaker 1: in fillers. There are 20-something year old celebrities who are
- 3:33Speaker 1: doing that, and I'm wondering why. You're still so young,
- 3:36Speaker 1: but hey, to each his own, right? Number one hit
- 3:39Speaker 1: music station. So a celebrity has said that she will
- 3:43Speaker 1: not give in to pop culture, society, pressures or whatsoever
- 3:47Speaker 1: because being a Hollywood celebrity.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Korean celebrity, maybe even sometimes a Thai celebrity as well.
- 3:54Speaker 1: There could be loads of pressure on that person to
- 3:57Speaker 1: maintain a certain image to always look good, which results
- 4:00Speaker 1: in them having to go to plastic surgery, get Botox done,
- 4:05Speaker 1: get fillers. Even men do it too. But this 24
- 4:08Speaker 1: year old celebrity has said, I don't want to do
- 4:11Speaker 1: anything to my face and body. I want to make
- 4:13Speaker 1: sure my kids recognize me. Take a bow to one
- 4:17Speaker 1: Billie Eilish. Well done.
- 4:22Speaker 1: You know, I definitely support her decision because loads of people,
- 4:25Speaker 1: we already go through body image issues and how we
- 4:29Speaker 1: look in the mirror as well to the point where
- 4:31Speaker 1: we look to the nearest Korean celebrity or Hollywood celebrity
- 4:34Speaker 1: and go, OK, you know what? Since they're doing it,
- 4:35Speaker 1: I wanna do it as well. But then you go,
- 4:38Speaker 1: then you go with Billie Eilish, who says, look, yes,
- 4:41Speaker 1: I have body image issues, but I wanna make sure
- 4:44Speaker 1: I handle it properly. She was saying this on the
- 4:46Speaker 1: Good Hang podcast with Amy Poehler, and she's also said that, yeah.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I want my future kids to recognize me, so no
- 4:52Speaker 1: Botox or no plastic surgery. I'm excited for my face
- 4:56Speaker 1: to age gracefully. That is an exact quote. So well
- 4:59Speaker 1: done to you, Billie Eilish, and hopefully her concert movie
- 5:03Speaker 1: Hit Me Hard and Soft is doing well in cinemas.
- 5:05Speaker 1: It's showing here in Singapore, by the way, in a
- 5:07Speaker 1: concert with Billie Eilish. Well, she's not exactly coming to
- 5:10Speaker 1: Singapore as of yet, but her movie Hit Me Hard
- 5:14Speaker 1: and Soft, produced by what Hollywood calls Mr. 3D himself, Mr.
- 5:18Speaker 1: James Cameron.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I'm, if I'm not wrong, when you watch the movie,
- 5:21Speaker 1: you put on a pair of 3D glasses and you
- 5:23Speaker 1: get to experience the entire concert live in 3D in
- 5:26Speaker 1: a concert film. So go enjoy. I believe a few
- 5:29Speaker 1: cinemas are screening it here in Singapore, places like Shaw, Lido,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and Gem. Book your tickets and go enjoy. Maybe it
- 5:36Speaker 1: could be a nice weekend plan with mom for Mother's
- 5:38Speaker 1: Day as well. Phone lines are open now, 669-119-87. Call us,
- 5:43Speaker 1: rep your school, give your school a shout out. Tell
- 5:46Speaker 1: us what's amazing about it.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Or whether you're having any exams right now. Let's do
- 5:50Speaker 1: it before the June holiday starts. So, plenty of time
- 5:54Speaker 1: to get your shout out in. You can request for
- 5:56Speaker 1: a song. We'll do our best to play it for
- 5:58Speaker 1: you immediately right here on 987. So, if I'm not wrong, yesterday,
- 6:04Speaker 1: we had somebody from Saint Anthony's Kenosian Primary. The day before,
- 6:08Speaker 1: we had Roseside School as well. So, let us know. 669-119-87.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I cannot wait to have a small chat with you
- 6:16Speaker 1: about your school.
- 6:18Speaker 1: My name is Rayna. Hello, Rayna. How are you this
- 6:22Speaker 1: Thursday morning? Which school are you from? Nanyang Primary. Nanyang
- 6:26Speaker 1: Primary School. OK, Rayna, what's amazing about Nanyang Primary School?
- 6:31Speaker 1: Tell me.
- 6:33Speaker 1: They got a playground that is very fun.
- 6:37Speaker 1: A playground, it's very fun. What level are you in
- 6:40Speaker 1: this year, Raider?
- 6:42Speaker 1: P1 P1. So you don't have any exams yet, right?
- 6:47Speaker 1: And how has P1 been for you?
- 6:51Speaker 1: Good. Are your teachers nice? Yeah. And what is your
- 6:54Speaker 1: favorite subject so far?
- 6:57Speaker 1: Math. Math. All right. Hopefully you're fantastic at math. Raya,
- 7:01Speaker 1: what song can I get for you? Can I have?
- 7:06Speaker 1: Of course you can. And who is it going out to?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Any friends you want to say hello to? My family.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Your family. Thank you so much for your call, Raya.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Have a great day in school, OK? Take care. OK. Bye-bye.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Bye bye. I was about to speak about the weather here.
- 7:21Speaker 1: In Singapore, but maybe I'll do it in 10 minutes'
- 7:23Speaker 1: time because I was scrolling through social media and our
- 7:26Speaker 1: news outlets here in Singapore and I saw one to
- 7:29Speaker 1: which if you're a school student in the car, maybe
- 7:32Speaker 1: not just a school student, but any adult that's tuned
- 7:35Speaker 1: in here on 987, when crossing the road.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Especially if you're gonna jaywalk, right?
- 7:42Speaker 1: Please, do not look at your phone. Look left, look right.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Make sure it is safe to cross, then you cross,
- 7:50Speaker 1: because there is a video of a schoolgirl somewhere in
- 7:53Speaker 1: the Pasir Ris area just dashing across the road when
- 7:57Speaker 1: the pedestrian light was red. That means you cannot cross
- 7:59Speaker 1: the road yet. And thankfully, the car that was capturing
- 8:03Speaker 1: the entire incident was able to brake in time and
- 8:07Speaker 1: not hit her. My heart was kinda beating very fast
- 8:10Speaker 1: at that moment, so thankfully.
- 8:11Speaker 1: nobody was hurt. Thankfully, she's OK. But again, please don't
- 8:15Speaker 1: dash across the road. Always look left and look right
- 8:18Speaker 1: and cross the road with your hand up like you
- 8:20Speaker 1: learned at the road safety park whenever your school brings
- 8:24Speaker 1: you there. There you go. Please remain safe, people, and especially,
- 8:28Speaker 1: don't be using your phones. Crossing the road takes less
- 8:32Speaker 1: than 30 seconds or 40 seconds. I'm sure your phone
- 8:35Speaker 1: and the text message from work can wait. Gone are
- 8:38Speaker 1: the days where Singapore had the
- 8:40Speaker 1: 8 Days Physical Copy magazine. It's now online and they
- 8:43Speaker 1: post loads of your favorite celebrity or Singaporean personality gossip
- 8:47Speaker 1: on those websites as well. 8 Days Entertainment, if I'm
- 8:50Speaker 1: not wrong, on Instagram. That's it, it's the worst over
- 8:54Speaker 1: for Singapore in terms of the weather. According to Senior
- 8:59Speaker 1: Minister of State for Sustainability and Environment, Mr. Janna Puthucheri,
- 9:02Speaker 1: in parliament, he said, based on the weather outlook for
- 9:07Speaker 1: the rest of the year,
- 9:08Speaker 1: The chance of a heat wave here in Singapore is low,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and hopefully, we get cooler weather from June onwards. So apparently,
- 9:18Speaker 1: to to classify something as a heat wave here in Singapore.
- 9:23Speaker 1: All weather stations for 3 days, they have to register
- 9:27Speaker 1: a reading of 35 °C or higher, again, across all
- 9:32Speaker 1: weather stations for 3 days. I learn something new every
- 9:35Speaker 1: day about us here in Singapore. So, yes, the, the
- 9:38Speaker 1: last few weeks, my goodness, it was scorching.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Even at night, after a cold shower, the moment I
- 9:46Speaker 1: step out to go to the hawker center to buy
- 9:48Speaker 1: dinner for just 10 minutes, I'm perspiring buckets. So yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 1: maybe our friends over at Uniqlo, they might see an
- 9:55Speaker 1: uptick in their Aerism sales for the last 2 months
- 9:59Speaker 1: or maybe even 3. So yeah, hang in there. It's
- 10:03Speaker 1: almost over and hopefully you get more cooling weather here
- 10:06Speaker 1: in Singapore, just like how times are in January and February.
- 10:10Speaker 1: In our country. And as promised, I'm gonna take you
- 10:13Speaker 1: to Yishun right now, not for anything dodgy or whatsoever,
- 10:16Speaker 1: but to me this was hilarious, and if Sonia were here,
- 10:20Speaker 1: I would have definitely poked fun at her and she
- 10:23Speaker 1: would go, hey, it's so bad. That's my best Sonia impersonation. So,
- 10:28Speaker 1: an Yishun.
- 10:29Speaker 1: The resident made some orders on Shopee, OK? And you
- 10:33Speaker 1: know how sometimes they don't deliver to your doorstep, they
- 10:35Speaker 1: might deliver to the parcel locker that's under your block, yeah,
- 10:40Speaker 1: for more convenience and safety as well. So, this Yishun
- 10:44Speaker 1: residence stands at 1.6 m, OK?
- 10:49Speaker 1: Unfortunately, her parcels were placed at the very top of
- 10:54Speaker 1: the 1.8 m tall parcel locker.
- 10:58Speaker 1: She couldn't reach it.
- 11:01Speaker 1: And she had to contact the customer service and they
- 11:05Speaker 1: were saying, ma'am, uh, the parcel is marked as delivered.
- 11:08Speaker 1: There's nothing much you can do about this situation. So
- 11:11Speaker 1: this poor Yishun resident had to wait half an hour
- 11:14Speaker 1: for a passerby and then ask for help. So kudos
- 11:17Speaker 1: to her for asking for help, but yeah, maybe.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I don't know, how can we avoid this situation? Maybe
- 11:23Speaker 1: put a special note like, can you all please place
- 11:25Speaker 1: my parcels at a height where I could reach it?
- 11:28Speaker 1: In case you just joined us and you're wondering where
- 11:30Speaker 1: Sonia Chew is, she's on leave today. Back with us tomorrow,
- 11:33Speaker 1: and don't forget tomorrow live on our show at just
- 11:36Speaker 1: past 9 if you're
- 11:37Speaker 1: Attending Media Corp's cloud nine. We got Max joining us,
- 11:41Speaker 1: Max Schneider, and yes, I, it was my dream to
- 11:45Speaker 1: hopefully have him sing live, but maybe he's protecting his
- 11:48Speaker 1: voice for Saturday's performance where I'm very sure he will
- 11:51Speaker 1: wow and blow you guys away.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Now, when we come back here on the shock circuit,
- 11:57Speaker 1: I want to lay the grounds for today's call-in over
- 12:00Speaker 1: at 669-119-87 as well as WhatsApp, 90050987. Again, if we
- 12:08Speaker 1: do like your answer, what's coming your way, a very
- 12:10Speaker 1: nice dining experience. All thanks to our friends over at
- 12:13Speaker 1: Cha Mulan. They are gonna be opening over at IMM
- 12:16Speaker 1: and North Point City.
- 12:18Speaker 1: They could be open already, so go on down and
- 12:20Speaker 1: check out the spanking new outlets, but I, I feel
- 12:23Speaker 1: as if as I get older,
- 12:27Speaker 1: The more I worry about my parents. I kid you not.
- 12:31Speaker 1: This was inspired by a convo that I had with
- 12:33Speaker 1: my mom yesterday involving a bicycle and a bicycle sale. I,
- 12:39Speaker 1: I will give you the full story in just a
- 12:41Speaker 1: bit here on the shocks again. That's it. The phone
- 12:44Speaker 1: lines will be open over at 669-119-87, even our WhatsApp
- 12:48Speaker 1: number as well at 900-50987 and all this inspired by
- 12:54Speaker 1: a convo that I had with my mom yesterday.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Again, I, I feel as if I've come full circle
- 12:59Speaker 1: in life where when I was a lot younger, my
- 13:02Speaker 1: mom would worry about me for sure, but as I
- 13:04Speaker 1: get older and even just yesterday, I find myself worrying
- 13:08Speaker 1: about my mom and my dad a lot. For my dad,
- 13:10Speaker 1: it's his, uh, well, he openly admits it, his very
- 13:14Speaker 1: big and round belly.
- 13:18Speaker 1: To which I always say, Dad, if this is me
- 13:20Speaker 1: in 20 years, please, I'm I'm very worried. For my
- 13:23Speaker 1: mom though, OK, look, she comes home yesterday from work
- 13:27Speaker 1: very excited. She goes, son, I said, Yes, mom, what
- 13:30Speaker 1: can I do for you? Oh, I saw that my
- 13:33Speaker 1: bicycle shop is having a bicycle sale. If I trade
- 13:37Speaker 1: in my old bike, I can offset close to about
- 13:40Speaker 1: $1000 and get a new bicycle.
- 13:43Speaker 1: To which I said, Mom, you've not cycled for 2 years.
- 13:50Speaker 1: The bicycle that you bought during COVID has been sitting
- 13:54Speaker 1: at our house doing nothing for two years. Why the
- 13:57Speaker 1: sudden want to cycle now? And she goes, no, but
- 14:00Speaker 1: you see this bike quality, the brand is very good,
- 14:03Speaker 1: you know, I can offset. I wanna take advantage and
- 14:05Speaker 1: go and trade in.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Then, as she was saying all this.
- 14:10Speaker 1: My mind played out plenty of scenarios. I, I don't
- 14:14Speaker 1: know why, but it played out the scenario of my
- 14:16Speaker 1: mom on a bicycle and all these youngsters just zooming
- 14:20Speaker 1: down the parks, even though they're not supposed to, or
- 14:23Speaker 1: even the park connector network as well, because as a runner,
- 14:26Speaker 1: even as a runner, I'm on the pedestrian path here,
- 14:29Speaker 1: while running, I'll get a fright or I'll get shocked
- 14:32Speaker 1: when the bike just zooms past me, especially those bikes
- 14:36Speaker 1: without brakes, which are illegal here in Singapore, so please
- 14:38Speaker 1: be extra careful.
- 14:39Speaker 1: As a pedestrian or jogger, at least I know if
- 14:41Speaker 1: I'm startled, I'm still able to find my footing. But
- 14:45Speaker 1: for my mom, if she were to cycle and she
- 14:47Speaker 1: gets startled by all this, as a cyclist, if you
- 14:51Speaker 1: lose balance, that's it.
- 14:52Speaker 1: That's a fall, and we have enough reports of, you know,
- 14:56Speaker 1: our Merdeka generation or even our pioneer generation falling, getting injured. I,
- 15:01Speaker 1: I'm worried, but I, I don't want to stop my
- 15:04Speaker 1: mom from doing it, but I cannot help but worry.
- 15:07Speaker 1: So when I told her my concerns, she just looks
- 15:09Speaker 1: at me and go, hmm, I'll think about it. This
- 15:12Speaker 1: is definitely karma. For all those times I told my
- 15:15Speaker 1: mom about bungee jumping and skydiving and all that, maybe
- 15:18Speaker 1: now I know how it feels.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Am I the only one here? Am I weird? 669-11987
- 15:25Speaker 1: or you can WhatsApp me at 90050987. Do you find
- 15:29Speaker 1: yourself worrying about your parents as well? And what about,
- 15:33Speaker 1: is there an activity they're doing that you always say, Mom, dad,
- 15:36Speaker 1: can you please stop and do something else that's not
- 15:38Speaker 1: good for you in the long run?
- 15:40Speaker 1: Like, like, do they make you worry? Please let me know.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Let me do an on the ground check here on 987. Again, 669-11987.
- 15:49Speaker 1: You can call us or you can WhatsApp us at 90050987.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Phone lines are open over at 669-11987 or WhatsApp 90050987.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Inspired by a convo that I had with my mom
- 16:02Speaker 1: yesterday about her wanting to get a new bicycle.
- 16:05Speaker 1: PS, she's not cycled in two years, and when she
- 16:08Speaker 1: was telling me about it, I don't know why my
- 16:10Speaker 1: mind was just playing out all these scenarios of her
- 16:12Speaker 1: being startled by people zooming past her and she gets
- 16:16Speaker 1: startled on the bicycle and she falls. So I, I'm
- 16:18Speaker 1: kind of worried about that.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Am I the only one worrying about my parents here
- 16:23Speaker 1: for doing activities like that? Let me know. 669-119-87. Johari,
- 16:28Speaker 1: do you worry about your parents? Yes,
- 16:29Speaker 2: I do, especially my dad actually.
- 16:31Speaker 1: OK, what is your dad doing that makes you worry?
- 16:34Speaker 2: OK, you see,
- 16:35Speaker 2: he has a problem with his knees, so he played badminton.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Oh, OK,
- 16:44Speaker 2: keep going.
- 16:45Speaker 2: So, so normally, like, on normal days you will see
- 16:48Speaker 2: him like walking, limping, but when he was in the court, right,
- 16:52Speaker 2: he's totally a different person, you know. You forget that
- 16:54Speaker 2: he's old.
- 16:56Speaker 2: And the way you play with me, right, he will
- 16:58Speaker 2: give all out. Wow. Uh, that, uh, slow down.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Wait, mom will scold me, not you, me.
- 17:08Speaker 1: So, so far throughout all the badminton games he has
- 17:11Speaker 1: played with you and his friends, any injuries? Hopefully not.
- 17:15Speaker 2: There is actually. He twisted his ankle, um, but he
- 17:18Speaker 2: keep it, he keep mom about all this, so he,
- 17:21Speaker 2: he suffered in silence.
- 17:23Speaker 2: The only thing that he told his friends, then his
- 17:25Speaker 2: friend is someone that know me. Then he told me
- 17:27Speaker 2: that your dad had this pain, you know. I
- 17:30Speaker 2: was like, oh no,
- 17:31Speaker 1: Johari, I don't know why, but if I were to
- 17:33Speaker 1: ever be a dad at your dad's age, I think
- 17:36Speaker 1: I might be like that, you know. I'll still go running,
- 17:38Speaker 1: but I won't tell about any injuries or knee pains. Ay.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your call, brother. Take care, man. Bye-bye.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Take care. Bye-bye. Bringing your parents to cloud nine is
- 17:46Speaker 1: an activity where there's no.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Worry involved. Both of you having a good time for
- 17:50Speaker 1: a music festival that only costs $28 happening this Saturday
- 17:54Speaker 1: at Arena and Expo. That said, it's yours, holy Joe
- 17:57Speaker 1: and Gomez, keeping you company right here on the shock circuit,
- 18:00Speaker 1: with the question being, do you find yourselves worrying about
- 18:04Speaker 1: your parents and the activities that they do or they
- 18:07Speaker 1: might do? Inspired very quickly by a convoy I had
- 18:10Speaker 1: with my mom yesterday who wants to cycle again.
- 18:13Speaker 1: She's not been cycling for the last 2 years. She
- 18:15Speaker 1: wants to trade in the old bicycle that's been collecting
- 18:17Speaker 1: dust to get a new one and start cycling, to
- 18:20Speaker 1: which my mind played out scenarios of people zooming by
- 18:24Speaker 1: her and even as a runner on the pedestrian path,
- 18:26Speaker 1: I find myself getting startled by cyclists out of nowhere.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Those that alert me, thank you. Those that don't, can
- 18:33Speaker 1: you all slow down? It's really very fast. OK, gonna
- 18:37Speaker 1: go to WhatsApp at 90050987, saying good morning to Jessie.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Jessie says, hey guys, my mom is retired and she
- 18:44Speaker 1: loves to travel. When I plan travels with her, I'll
- 18:47Speaker 1: always make sure it is not tiring and any walking
- 18:50Speaker 1: or hiking, hiking, do not take the whole day. But
- 18:54Speaker 1: recently she has been traveling with her friends and she
- 18:56Speaker 1: tends to overexert herself and likes acting strong in front
- 19:00Speaker 1: of her friends, so I'm worried. Oh no! It's the
- 19:04Speaker 1: pride and ego thing, huh, Jessie?
- 19:06Speaker 1: One coming in from Nick. Morning, my fellow menu bro Joakim.
- 19:10Speaker 1: You are not alone. My mother-in-law stays with me since
- 19:12Speaker 1: the start of COVID. Both my, my, my wife and
- 19:15Speaker 1: I are worried for her as she has some walking
- 19:18Speaker 1: issues due to her knee. To the point where we're
- 19:21Speaker 1: asking her to install the 360 app to monitor her whereabouts,
- 19:24Speaker 1: just like how we monitor.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Our two teenage daughters, how the tables have turned. Thank
- 19:29Speaker 1: you very much for your texts, Nick. Now keep the
- 19:32Speaker 1: calls coming in over at 669-11987 or 90050987. Wanna say
- 19:38Speaker 1: good morning to R who says, morning Joakim. My dad
- 19:42Speaker 1: is turning 69 this year.
- 19:45Speaker 1: And he still plays tennis and golf weekly, religiously. He
- 19:49Speaker 1: and his group of friends even hold tennis tournaments that
- 19:51Speaker 1: run yearly, and winners can win a cash prize from
- 19:54Speaker 1: the pot, building from bets and get their names engraved
- 19:58Speaker 1: on the trophy that I designed when I was a teenager.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I'm in my late twenties now and find myself nagging
- 20:03Speaker 1: at my dad a lot like a parent because he
- 20:05Speaker 1: can be very gung-ho. He would sneak out like a
- 20:07Speaker 1: teenager when sick or when he gets injured to go
- 20:10Speaker 1: play sports because he needs his fix, and when he
- 20:13Speaker 1: comes back, I give him an earful. I still love
- 20:16Speaker 1: him regardless despite all the worrying he puts me through,
- 20:19Speaker 1: and the old man is currently abroad playing golf with
- 20:21Speaker 1: his friends. Hiya.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I honestly think that's me as a dad in the future,
- 20:28Speaker 1: but we'll see. On the topic of whether you worry
- 20:31Speaker 1: about your parents and some of the activities that they do,
- 20:35Speaker 1: long story short, my mom wants to cycle again, but
- 20:39Speaker 1: given the park connectors and the cycling paths where some
- 20:42Speaker 1: cyclists might be zooming down and it might startle my mom.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I'm just worried she might fall because she gets startled.
- 20:50Speaker 1: So if you're a pedestrian walking and you get startled,
- 20:52Speaker 1: at least you still have your footing on the ground.
- 20:54Speaker 1: But for a cyclist, I'm not too sure, and especially
- 20:56Speaker 1: with my mom. Mom, 67 this year. I go walking
- 20:59Speaker 1: with you lah, Mom, come on, OK? I want to
- 21:01Speaker 1: say good morning to Kenneth who says, hey, Joakim, my
- 21:04Speaker 1: mom is 80 this year and thankfully still active. Too active.
- 21:09Speaker 1: She's traveling 2 to 3 times a month. She's fallen
- 21:12Speaker 1: a few times already, but sometimes I think accidents happen everywhere,
- 21:15Speaker 1: including at home, and between the chances of her falling
- 21:18Speaker 1: while alone at home versus out there in a, in
- 21:20Speaker 1: a holiday with friends, I guess the latter is better, yes,
- 21:23Speaker 1: because she's with friends and the friends can help. Also,
- 21:26Speaker 1: wanna say good morning to on WhatsApp, Amy. Amy, you say,
- 21:30Speaker 1: It is more like the daily routine that is worrying
- 21:33Speaker 1: for my mom. She has been hooked to watching YouTube
- 21:36Speaker 1: before bedtime. She'll be using the mobile phone laying on
- 21:39Speaker 1: her bed till the phone drops onto her face or body.
- 21:42Speaker 1: For my mother-in-law, she closes all the windows the whole
- 21:45Speaker 1: day and there is not much fresh air in her flat.
- 21:47Speaker 1: The fact that she hangs laundry to dry in the
- 21:49Speaker 1: living room has created more mold on the walls. Oh no!
- 21:55Speaker 1: More mold on the walls and the smell on the
- 21:56Speaker 1: t-shirts as well that still stays there.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Love on the line, what about
- 22:00Speaker 1: you?
- 22:01Speaker 2: Yes, of course, uh, because they like, act like a
- 22:04Speaker 2: child when they are getting old. Yeah, so she loves
- 22:09Speaker 2: to cycle, but she can't balance. So she has to
- 22:14Speaker 2: put like those kids' wheels to balance the 22 wheels
- 22:18Speaker 2: on the back wheels, and then she can paddle, but
- 22:22Speaker 2: because her hearing is also not
- 22:24Speaker 2: good.
- 22:27Speaker 2: So when people ring or you know, warn, she don't,
- 22:32Speaker 2: she don't bother. That's why they are very
- 22:33Speaker 2: worried.
- 22:34Speaker 1: What's the, what's the negotiation with your mom like to
- 22:37Speaker 1: stop her from cycling?
- 22:39Speaker 2: We say it's very dangerous for her not, and then
- 22:42Speaker 2: for those that are on the road also because she,
- 22:46Speaker 2: she can't, she can't judge that well so we we
- 22:48Speaker 2: we we we we go walk with you lah, instead
- 22:51Speaker 2: of you cycling.
- 22:53Speaker 1: OK, I'm sure she appreciates the company as well.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I don't feel so alone worrying about the activities my
- 23:00Speaker 1: mom or dad.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Want to do sometimes, especially for my mom. Not cycled
- 23:04Speaker 1: in 2 years, you know. Suddenly she sees a very
- 23:07Speaker 1: good bicycle deal. She wants to go and trade in
- 23:09Speaker 1: her old bicycle and start cycling again and then I,
- 23:12Speaker 1: and I went, just Mom, can you not cycle? Just,
- 23:14Speaker 1: just go for a walk, like walk, at least as
- 23:17Speaker 1: a pedestrian. If you get startled by other cyclists, you'll
- 23:19Speaker 1: be fine and you won't lose balance and fall. That
- 23:22Speaker 1: that's my ultimate worry. But anyway, for today's winner, I
- 23:26Speaker 1: wanna give it to Love, who called us earlier. Congratulations, Love.
- 23:32Speaker 1: That very nice Cha Mulan, a dining experience coming your way.
- 23:35Speaker 1: You've got two spanking new outlets over at IMM as
- 23:39Speaker 1: well as North Point City. We have your details and
- 23:42Speaker 1: not to worry, one more chance for you to win
- 23:44Speaker 1: it tomorrow here on the shock circuit. D23. It is
- 23:49Speaker 1: coming to Singapore.
- 23:57Speaker 1: So, not just D23, D23 Asia for the very first
- 24:01Speaker 1: time will be held in Singapore. It's only one of
- 24:04Speaker 1: the biggest Disney fan events around the world, and for
- 24:08Speaker 1: us here in Singapore, we could be welcoming stars from
- 24:10Speaker 1: the Star Wars franchise, Marvel, Pixar, Disney itself. I'm excited.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Not too much has been announced as of yet.
- 24:18Speaker 1: So people are speculating on where it might be held
- 24:21Speaker 1: and all that. I'm just guessing Marina Bay Sands Convention Center.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I think that's a space that's big enough to be
- 24:26Speaker 1: able to host something like that or maybe even RWS.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I don't know if it's confirmed on where already, but
- 24:32Speaker 1: no month or date given as of yet, but again, 2027,
- 24:38Speaker 1: especially if you're a big distance.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Fan, it's something to look forward to and I pray
- 24:42Speaker 1: that you get passes to go meet your favorite Disney
- 24:44Speaker 1: stars or Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars. Amazing stuff. And have
- 24:49Speaker 1: you been on the Disney adventure already? I'm seeing loads
- 24:52Speaker 1: of stories of the follow-ups and all that. It looks fun.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Kids are happy. Everyone's smiling. If you can afford to
- 24:57Speaker 1: go and enjoy a Disney cruise, of course. And OK.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Not that I don't like my own kind. When I
- 25:04Speaker 1: say this, I mean the industry and all that, but
- 25:07Speaker 1: some people, they, they like to fake their following. Let's
- 25:10Speaker 1: be honest. Social media has been around for almost 2
- 25:14Speaker 1: decades or so, especially with Instagram, TikTok, and with Instagram,
- 25:19Speaker 1: there are plenty of services, not, not legit, by the way,
- 25:23Speaker 1: that lets you buy all these bot followers to boost
- 25:26Speaker 1: your numbers and all that. Ever since social play became
- 25:29Speaker 1: a thing,
- 25:30Speaker 1: People kind of stopped doing that, but they found other
- 25:32Speaker 1: ways to boost their like numbers, their engagement and all that.
- 25:36Speaker 1: So what Instagram has been doing, I think as of
- 25:39Speaker 1: two nights ago.
- 25:40Speaker 1: They've been going on an Instagram bot purge. So your creators,
- 25:44Speaker 1: your content creators, your influencers, your celebrities, even locally and overseas,
- 25:50Speaker 1: they could be having a little bit of a panic
- 25:52Speaker 1: attack right now being, eh, oh no, my numbers are dropping,
- 25:55Speaker 1: and it could be because of bot accounts. Now, not
- 25:59Speaker 1: saying everyone who has it bought it. Sometimes people like
- 26:02Speaker 1: to sabo each other, like this content creator might purposely
- 26:05Speaker 1: sabo another content creator and buy all these bot followings
- 26:08Speaker 1: for that person.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Just to make it seem as if the other person's
- 26:11Speaker 1: following is fake. So, there's a lot of drama, there's
- 26:14Speaker 1: a lot of tea. I cannot wait to see what
- 26:16Speaker 1: happens to any of the content creators that brought followers
- 26:19Speaker 1: here in Singapore or even overseas because on threads, Instagram threads,
- 26:24Speaker 1: people are complaining about it already and they're getting rightly
- 26:27Speaker 1: called out. How about giving you some things you can
- 26:29Speaker 1: do here in Singapore to wrap up our show? If,
- 26:33Speaker 1: for example, you're planning on making a visit to Mandai's
- 26:36Speaker 1: new rainforest wild adventure.
- 26:39Speaker 1: They're gonna be launching the second phase, the East Zone.
- 26:43Speaker 1: It'll be soft opened on May 20th, 2026, ahead of
- 26:48Speaker 1: the grand opening later on this month. And if you
- 26:51Speaker 1: buy a ticket, you can actually go to the east
- 26:53Speaker 1: and west zones and there'll be a free shuttle bus
- 26:56Speaker 1: that connects two areas. So, animals to look forward to
- 26:59Speaker 1: in the east zone.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Don't include pygmy hippos, Eastern bongos, which is a breed
- 27:05Speaker 1: of antelope, if I'm not wrong, and it will also
- 27:08Speaker 1: be housing for okapis that is a relation to the
- 27:13Speaker 1: giraffes from Congo. It's an endangered species. So go have
- 27:16Speaker 1: a look and enjoy yourselves. Plenty of things to do,
- 27:18Speaker 1: maybe make plans for the June holidays.
