- 1:16So I wanna rewind a minute.
- 1:19We're here today to talk about the Sims.
- 1:23- The greatest video game of all time.
- 1:25- Yes, the best game of all time.
- 1:27- Yes.
- 1:28- The Sims dropped in the 2000s created by Will Wright.
- 1:33It started as SimCity, which we all know and love,
- 1:37which was really ultimately inspired by architecture,
- 1:41urban planning, murdering people on a roller coaster.
- 1:44- You say that's the only thing I remember about SimCity
- 1:47is I think playing it in like the computer lab in school
- 1:50and just murdering people on a roller coaster.
- 1:54- Mass murder via roller coasters.
- 1:56- Is that the same thing?
- 1:57- Yes.
- 1:58- Roller coaster tycoon or those two different games.
- 2:01- I think they were like somewhat like the expansion
- 2:05packs of Sims that we have today.
- 2:08- So I think it was an okay.
- 2:09- Yeah, it was like, yeah.
- 2:11So Sims City and then you had all of these offshoots.
- 2:14I always think about how you were just like
- 2:16continuously cleaning up vomit.
- 2:18(laughing)
- 2:19- Oh my God, I forgot about that.
- 2:21- Yeah, right.
- 2:22- It was too scary. - Right, you were like,
- 2:22you were like, I wasn't cleaning up the vomit.
- 2:26- They were living with it.
- 2:27- But they looked stew in their own juices.
- 2:29They're gonna die anyway.
- 2:31(laughing)
- 2:32- Yeah, it's like they weren't really living with it.
- 2:34They were dying with it.
- 2:35But ultimately the Sims became one of the best
- 2:39selling PC franchises ever.
- 2:41We've had tons of Sims games.
- 2:43We started with the Sims one.
- 2:45Today we're on Sims four and endless expansion packs.
- 2:49We have hot day, making magic, pets, university,
- 2:52get famous.
- 2:53There's like fairy lands now.
- 2:57It's honestly anything and everything you can dream of.
- 2:59- There's kind of like a Harry Potter one.
- 3:02I think Star Wars one.
- 3:04I have the seasons which I really like
- 3:06because then it actually snows and gets hot
- 3:10and there's holidays and all of these little stuff packs
- 3:14you can buy too.
- 3:15So there's a Gothic stuff pack,
- 3:17an emo stuff pack that you can add to their furniture
- 3:21and their outfits.
- 3:23This game has taken so much of my money.
- 3:25(laughing)
- 3:27- And all of these versions get more and more complex.
- 3:30You start with basic needs and furniture
- 3:33to fill on multitasking emotions, lifestyles.
- 3:37- Yes.
- 3:38- More popular now are these mods as well.
- 3:42And it's actually not something you can buy
- 3:45but it's things you can find on Reddit and the internet
- 3:48where you can actually alter the code of your game
- 3:52and change it where you can do delinquent things.
- 3:55Shana actually taught me about this.
- 3:56One of the more popular ones.
- 3:58- Did I really?
- 3:59- Did I really?
- 3:59- Yeah, I never heard of it.
- 4:01- Oh my God.
- 4:02Okay, that's my favorite one.
- 4:03You download Wicked Wins.
- 4:05And honestly, I love playing with the mods
- 4:07but sometimes you spend more time fixing your mods.
- 4:12So I sit down and I'm like, I'm gonna play the Sims
- 4:14and anytime there's an update, you have to reinstall
- 4:18all of your mods.
- 4:19So it takes like 45 minutes and then finally at that point,
- 4:22I was like, yeah, fuck this, I don't wanna play anymore.
- 4:25(laughs)
- 4:26- Wicked Wins instead of doing woo-hoo,
- 4:29your Sims actually have intercourse.
- 4:33- There's no blurring here.
- 4:34- There is no blurring.
- 4:35- They are nude.
- 4:36There are lots of different positions.
- 4:38You can have multiple partners at once.
- 4:42They can do it in different places.
- 4:47You can put on how shy your Sims are with the Wicked Wins
- 4:51or like how, I don't know if they're gonna do it in public
- 4:55and at one point I had that totally turned off.
- 4:59And my Sims went on a date to the McDonald's
- 5:01and we're just like going at it in the middle
- 5:03of the McDonald's and then someone else jumped in
- 5:06and I was like, oh my God, you guys.
- 5:09- Orgy party at McDonald's, you know?
- 5:11- Just vile, just on that floor.
- 5:13It's just too sticky.
- 5:15Just,
- 5:17but yes, I do love my Wicked Wins.
- 5:19There's also extreme violence
- 5:22where your Sims can all murder each other violently
- 5:26and there's blood and all that.
- 5:28And then base mental drugs.
- 5:31So you can have your Sims use the Pop Culture Junkie podcast
- 5:35is not condone, illicit drug use.
- 5:37- We do.
- 5:38Unless.
- 5:41- To deal with the age of eighties.
- 5:43- There you go.
- 5:44- There you go.
- 5:45- Yeah.
- 5:46- And then you go on for alcohol though.
- 5:48- It's like what's the legal age to do a lot of cocaine
- 5:51because that's what my Sims are doing.
- 5:53Growing a ton of weed, just railing lines.
- 5:57They're all coke dealers.
- 6:00But then if you deal drugs in public,
- 6:02the cops can come and arrest you
- 6:04and you have to spend the night in jail.
- 6:06And then they just want,
- 6:07yeah, one cop will just walk up to you
- 6:09and be like, you're a runner or a rush for drugs.
- 6:11And you're like, oh, me.
- 6:13- I like how the people who created the mods
- 6:16were like, you know what?
- 6:17We need some consequences one day.
- 6:20- Yeah, I'm just, yeah.
- 6:20You spend one day, but then they clear out your stash.
- 6:23So they take all of your drugs.
- 6:25So that kind of sucks.
- 6:27And then you have to go to court, I don't know.
- 6:28It's kind of in depth.
- 6:30So.
- 6:31(laughing)
- 6:33- Drugs are bad, even though the drugs are bad.
- 6:35- Drugs bad, okay.
- 6:36- Okay.
- 6:37- Okay.
- 6:37- But yes, I love my mods.
- 6:39I love making Olivia naked in the mods.
- 6:41- Oh yeah, who doesn't?
- 6:43- In real life.
- 6:44And in the Sims universe.
- 6:45And the Sims is ultimately captured so much
- 6:49of people's attention since the 2000s.
- 6:53In 2014, we got the Sims 4, which is still kicking
- 6:58with us.
- 7:00One of the things that EA Games changed is they actually
- 7:03made the Sims 4 free.
- 7:06And the way that they make money now is through
- 7:08those expansion packs.
- 7:10And if you are still a Sims player in 2025,
- 7:15you are bought in, you're buying those expansion packs.
- 7:18- Oh yeah.
- 7:19- You really want it.
- 7:19And so they use this strategy of making the Sims free
- 7:24and they get you hooked, you know, just like that drug.
- 7:27They ultimately really keep you coming back for more.
- 7:30And most of us know the Sims as us playing it,
- 7:34creating our own characters, designing our own homes.
- 7:37But the Sims itself actually has some crazy lore
- 7:42within it and different families, different players
- 7:46that whenever you join the game,
- 7:47they will exist within Sims City
- 7:50or whenever you do join the Sims.
- 7:53You'll see these existing characters.
- 7:55And what we wanted to do today is dive into those iconic Sims
- 8:00that we've seen throughout all the different versions
- 8:03from the story of looking at you, baby.
- 8:05- Yes, Shana.
- 8:07- Shana's, you know, fantasized about him, for sure.
- 8:10- I have.
- 8:11- And it's good looking at him.
- 8:12- Some of them have persisted through many versions
- 8:15of the games, some of them have changed.
- 8:17And so we're gonna get started and dive into
- 8:21the different families that we meet within the Sims
- 8:24'cause just like your neighborhood.
- 8:26- There's some juicy gods.
- 8:27- There is juicy hot gods.
- 8:30So first we have the Goth family.
- 8:33They are the crown jewel of the Sims drama.
- 8:37Mortimer, Bella, Cassandra, and Alexander Goth.
- 8:41So they are the most iconic and mysterious family
- 8:45in the Sims universe.
- 8:46They've appeared in every single Sims game
- 8:48and each version tells a slightly different story about them.
- 8:52So in the Sims one, the Goths are very wealthy
- 8:55and spooky, kind of giving like Adam's family vibes to me.
- 9:00- They have the graves in their backyard with ghosts, right?
- 9:03- Yes, I think so.
- 9:05I played Sims one.
- 9:06I didn't play two or three.
- 9:09So I played one back in the day and I played four now.
- 9:13- Fig fan.
- 9:13- Yes, I know.
- 9:15I couldn't afford it.
- 9:17- But now I can't because you know, I don't,
- 9:19adult money and it's free.
- 9:21(laughing)
- 9:24- In Sims one, the Goths are wealthy and spooky.
- 9:27Bella is alive and well.
- 9:29In Sims two, things get a little weird and Bella is missing.
- 9:34She vanishes under suspicious circumstances
- 9:37and no one knows where she is.
- 9:39You can find her in strange town,
- 9:41but she has no memory of the Goths
- 9:43or being part of the family.
- 9:45So at this point, it's heavily implied
- 9:47that she was abducted by aliens
- 9:50and her last location is at the Calleant A. Sister's house
- 9:54who have those alien connections
- 9:56that we'll get to in a minute.
- 9:58Mortimer is now older in Sims four and trying to move on.
- 10:02Cassandra is engaged to Don Lothario, little playboy.
- 10:06We'll see all that goes.
- 10:08And Alexander's just a kid.
- 10:09He's just a little Goth kid.
- 10:11So the fan theory about the Goth family,
- 10:13again, is that Bella was abducted by aliens,
- 10:17but it was because she was getting too close to the truth
- 10:21behind the Calleant A's and their alien bloodline.
- 10:25So they took her over to silence her.
- 10:28And I love this.
- 10:29And I love the last names in this are so on the nose.
- 10:34It's so funny.
- 10:35Like my favorite that we'll get to is the land grab family.
- 10:39Like it's just so on the nose and I love it so much.
- 10:43But yes, I love the Goths.
- 10:46I think there's still a live in my game.
- 10:48I had aging turned on for a while,
- 10:51except for my households didn't age.
- 10:53But then that kind of sad.
- 10:57Bella is alive in my game, but she's just elderly.
- 10:59That's it.
- 11:00She's elderly.
- 11:01So then I ended up turning it off for everyone
- 11:03because I didn't want everyone else to get old and die.
- 11:06You're like, I can't keep up with all these new people coming in.
- 11:09Literally, oh, there's so many new townies in my game now
- 11:12because I think the OG characters have all kind of gotten
- 11:15old and died, unfortunately, but like their ghosts
- 11:19are just kind of floating around.
- 11:20Malcolm Langegrabbs ghost floats around my town
- 11:23and not man screws anything that moves.
- 11:28That man's going to ghost.
- 11:29Oh, he's a horse.
- 11:31He's a horny little ghost.
- 11:32He's a horny little ghost.
- 11:34And next we have the Caliente sisters
- 11:37who are really wrapped up within the Goth family.
- 11:41Most people refer to them as gold diggers with alien DNA.
- 11:45And it is Nina and Dina Caliente.
- 11:48They are closest to Caliente.
- 11:52They are closest to Don Lathario, Mortimer Goth, and Bella Goth.
- 11:57So Nina and Dina are twins, but fans have always
- 12:00kind of called out that they don't actually look alike.
- 12:04And most people speculate because they
- 12:06are half aliens.
- 12:08Now stick with me.
- 12:10In The Sims 2--
- 12:11I'm here with you.
- 12:12I'm here with you.
- 12:14In The Sims 2, they live with Don Lathario
- 12:17and are trying to deduce Mortimer Goth, who
- 12:20is a newly widowed older man.
- 12:24And in The Sims 2, part of the game
- 12:27that you have to play the main characters,
- 12:30like The Sims Created Characters, to get to.
- 12:33And it is called Strange Town.
- 12:35And when you go there, there is a lot of alien things happening.
- 12:39And so that's really why they think
- 12:41that Bella was abducted by aliens.
- 12:45So I think if you go to Strange Town,
- 12:47you actually can meet an alien.
- 12:48And there's flying saucers and things like that.
- 12:51And it does say that Bella was in Strange Town,
- 12:54but she doesn't remember her family.
- 12:56Would Bella and Mortimer or Mary to each other, right?
- 12:59Yes.
- 13:00OK.
- 13:00Got it.
- 13:01So yes, he is a widow or he thinks he's a widow in Sims 2
- 13:05because his wife is missing.
- 13:07Which is Bella, who's in Strange Town.
- 13:09Deena has possibly already married and buried
- 13:14a rich husband before.
- 13:16Who has a widow?
- 13:17We love a black widow.
- 13:18We love a black widow.
- 13:19And so many of my Sims have just--
- 13:22I'll create a man just for him to die.
- 13:26Just for him to die.
- 13:29And one thing that we didn't necessarily
- 13:32mention about the Goth family is they are rich.
- 13:35When you go into the game, you always
- 13:38want to play the Goth family because they have this mansion
- 13:41and everyone else has a middle class family home.
- 13:45Unless you're the land grabs.
- 13:47Yes, yeah.
- 13:48They are the Goths 2.0.
- 13:50And so ultimately, Deena and Nina
- 13:55are really these kind of gold diggers.
- 13:58Like I said at the beginning.
- 14:00And they are seen as these nefarious women who
- 14:04helped get Bella Goth got and ultimately are--
- 14:09Bella got got got got got got got.
- 14:12Ultimately are part of the plan on the night
- 14:16that she disappeared.
- 14:18And so the family and the fan theory around them
- 14:21is that the family and they were sent by aliens
- 14:24to infiltrate the Sims society.
- 14:27Obviously.
- 14:28Deena's pursuit of Mortimer was to secure the Goth family
- 14:32wealth for whatever alien plan is underway.
- 14:36And so what do aliens need money?
- 14:41World domination.
- 14:42I mean, I guess I'm just thinking back
- 14:44to V our last episode that you should check out.
- 14:48And the aliens wanted more like resources.
- 14:51I don't know.
- 14:51Like what does an alien need with currency?
- 14:54What does an alien need with simlions?
- 14:56Isn't that what their money's called?
- 14:57Simlions?
- 14:58Yeah.
- 14:59Well, currency would get you things.
- 15:02And then things are like supplies, I guess.
- 15:04But--
- 15:05Materialistic aliens.
- 15:07Yes.
- 15:07As Scarface would say, first you get the money,
- 15:10then you get the power, then you get that girl.
- 15:13So maybe they're trying to make alien babies
- 15:16like they did with the county and two sisters.
- 15:19So they want to be rich so that they can be handsome
- 15:22and wantable by sim ladies to make sim babies
- 15:26to infiltrate simsiety.
- 15:30It goes all the way to the top.
- 15:32All the way to the top.
- 15:32We are back.
- 15:38And we are to my favorite character in favorite townie,
- 15:43Don Lothario, or as Olivia called him, the ultimate fuck
- 15:47boy.
- 15:48So Don Lothario's key traits are hot,
- 15:52shirtless and commitment phobic,
- 15:54kind of like my college ex boyfriend.
- 15:58Bono.
- 15:59He is engaged to Cassandra Goth,
- 16:02involved with Nina, Dina, and Bella.
- 16:04So Don Lothario is the messy king of sims too.
- 16:09He's got four romantic relationships going at once,
- 16:12unless you make him have relationships
- 16:15with your characters that you create, which he always wants
- 16:18to show up and do, because he's Don Lothario.
- 16:21He's engaged to Cassandra,
- 16:23but flirting with everyone else, including her mom,
- 16:26Bella, you dirty, dirty boy.
- 16:31I called Andrew Don Lothario at one point.
- 16:34I don't remember what he was doing.
- 16:35Did he get the reference?
- 16:36No, I think I need to break up with him.
- 16:38I was like, OK, Don Lothario.
- 16:41Divorced reason.
- 16:43He didn't know my sims reference.
- 16:45My sims reference.
- 16:45He's like, I'm sorry.
- 16:47What did you just call me?
- 16:50Anyway, I digress.
- 16:51Some fans think that he was working
- 16:53with the Calientes to lure Bella away.
- 16:57And in Sims 3, he shows up as a younger version of himself
- 17:01in Sunset Valley, which is a prequel.
- 17:04And we see how his drama got started.
- 17:07I didn't realize Sims 3 was a prequel,
- 17:09but I guess it's because I didn't play that.
- 17:11But that's kind of--
- 17:12The timeline kind of jumps around
- 17:14and you bring all these different ones, yeah.
- 17:16I like that.
- 17:16A fun fact about Don.
- 17:18His bio says he's quote, afraid of commitment,
- 17:21but can't resist a pretty face.
- 17:24Same, Don.
- 17:25Don and I have that in common.
- 17:27They say so.
- 17:27He's just your average Arizona state student.
- 17:31Got it.
- 17:31Perfect.
- 17:32Perfect.
- 17:34To the ASU of Sims City.
- 17:36Go Devils.
- 17:37There is also a Sims University pack,
- 17:40but I haven't downloaded it.
- 17:41I played that.
- 17:42I think I played it in Sims 3.
- 17:44Fun.
- 17:45I was in middle school, though.
- 17:48I mean, should not have been playing--
- 17:49I think that's a challenge.
- 17:51Yeah.
- 17:51I think that Sims 3 was--
- 17:53maybe it was Sims 2, but Sims 3, I think,
- 17:56is when you got the heart bed that could vibrate.
- 17:59Oh, Sims 1, I think we had the heart bed too,
- 18:01because I remember I Stephanie and I used to play--
- 18:04we would have sleepovers where we would just sit in whoever's
- 18:08parents house we were at, and their computer room
- 18:09would play the Sims for hours.
- 18:12And we would always make the kidding
- 18:14school that we had to crush on, because we
- 18:16had to crush on the same boy.
- 18:19And he'd be so hot and shirtless,
- 18:21and we would get in the vibrating bed with him.
- 18:24I love that.
- 18:25Together?
- 18:26No, only one at a time.
- 18:28Although we did download a hot date.
- 18:31And maybe it was Sims 2 now that I think about it,
- 18:34because I'm not sure if all these expansions
- 18:36packs were with Sims 1.
- 18:38I don't know.
- 18:38Somebody let us know in the comments.
- 18:40But I was like, oh, Stephanie and Shawn,
- 18:43I need to go and have a girls day.
- 18:45So they went on a hot date, and then it ended up
- 18:47falling in love at the end.
- 18:49And we were like, no, no.
- 18:51Restart, restart, because we were children.
- 18:54And therefore, oh, no.
- 18:57Shawn hadn't realized she was a bisexual then.
- 18:58I wasn't.
- 18:59Maybe that was my awakening.
- 19:00Maybe I was like, yeah.
- 19:02I kind of liked them.
- 19:03[LAUGHTER]
- 19:06Maybe I want to go on more hot dates with some ladies, anyway.
- 19:11[LAUGHTER]
- 19:13We have a couple more families.
- 19:16Yes.
- 19:17And then we have the pleasant family

- 37:13And they become like self-aware in Sims 4 though.
- 37:16There's this recent update at least in the last two years
- 37:19where they go like it'll say,
- 37:21"Oh, Olivia, I can't help shake the feeling
- 37:24that there's some overarching power
- 37:26that's controlling her every whim.
- 37:28Will she ever be in control?"
- 37:30And they get like really anxious.
- 37:33And every time that pops up I'm like,
- 37:34"No, you won't be."
- 37:36- That's so funny.
- 37:37- I like that.
- 37:38- I like the more simulation, simulation
- 37:40during the time it becomes real.
- 37:42Oh my God.
- 37:43- With the games.
- 37:45- Simulation.
- 37:46- Poo.
- 37:48- My mind is blown.
- 37:51(laughing)
- 37:52- Blown.
- 37:53- And there's so much great things about the Sims.
- 37:58And I think really that is why the Sims has stuck around
- 38:03for so long is really we've seen it evolve in iterate
- 38:08and the way that people play with it.
- 38:10There's expansion packs, there's modifications
- 38:14where we're crowdsourcing the Sims development ultimately.
- 38:19And there's just so much fun.
- 38:20- Right, and they listen to the fans.
- 38:22They just brought back the robber who wasn't in Sims 4.
- 38:26But everyone remembers that robber
- 38:27from the first games where that creepies it comes on.
- 38:31And they like, you get so scared.
- 38:33- I haven't played in, gosh, it's been at least two months now.
- 38:37So I need to get back on and get my new computer.
- 38:40- The computer that I play with Sims on
- 38:42is literally my college computer.
- 38:44- Oh no, that thing's running.
- 38:47- Yeah, it literally, yeah, it makes so much noise.
- 38:51I'm like, is this the finished problem?
- 38:53- Probably.
- 38:54- So it's like you download too many mods
- 38:56and it's just like, and it goes so slow.
- 38:59- Yeah.
- 38:59- The mods definitely broke it.
- 39:01- Yeah.
- 39:02- I need a new computer.
- 39:03I keep debating like do a buy new computer
- 39:06just so I can play the Sims, but probably.
- 39:09- I think so.
- 39:10- But and record this podcast.
- 39:12- What are you waiting for?
- 39:14- Yeah.
- 39:14(laughing)
- 39:16So the Sims 5 was in development for a very long time.
- 39:21They were teasing it.
- 39:22They were telling us that the Sims 5 is coming.
- 39:25As of a couple months ago, they're actually canceled
- 39:29the release of Sims 5.
- 39:32And they're actually doing, let me actually get the proper name
- 39:36'cause I was sending it.
- 39:37So it's called the project.
- 39:38- Yeah, project, I was calling it Reen,
- 39:40but like R-E-N-E is--
- 39:44- That's the idea.
- 39:45- Reen or Reen.
- 39:46- Reen, Renee, whatever.
- 39:48So they canceled the Sims 5
- 39:50and they're doing project Reen, Renee.
- 39:53Right now, they have a small group of testers.
- 39:57So people have actually seen what it looks like
- 40:00within the project test group.
- 40:01- Shell.
- 40:02- I saw some screenshots within it.
- 40:05And ultimately, the Sims games makers, E-A,
- 40:09said that because so many people have bought
- 40:13all of these expansion packs within the Sims 4,
- 40:17if they went to Sims 5, people will lose all that.
- 40:20They would really kind of disenfranchise
- 40:22all those people who have been their most loyal customers
- 40:26and kept that game so popular over time.
- 40:30- A lot of people play legacy games too,
- 40:33where I said I don't have my character's age.
- 40:37They'll have two people who have grow up together,
- 40:41have babies and then they die.
- 40:42And then like, you know what I mean?
- 40:44It's like bloodlines that carry on throughout the game.
- 40:47So I could see that being really frustrating for them,
- 40:49losing all of that.
- 40:50- Yeah, so they ultimately ditched Sims 5.
- 40:54And now they are making, you know, it seems like
- 40:57we don't know too much,
- 40:58but project Reen ultimately is a somewhat of an expansion
- 41:04pack, but they have said that it will give you
- 41:07multiplayer versions, so you can actually like,
- 41:10Seanan, I can meet up, our characters can meet up.
- 41:13- And get a drink at the casual pint.
- 41:16- No.
- 41:17- And have relations with a green Mohawk man?
- 41:21- Yeah.
- 41:22Well, I'm gonna make you have relations
- 41:23with a green Mohawk man, so you can see what it's like.
- 41:27- Okay, that's fair.
- 41:28- Yeah.
- 41:28- Twist my arm.
- 41:30- Ugh.
- 41:30- I guess.
- 41:31- Yeah.
- 41:33- And so if you had one wish for the game makers of the Sims,
- 41:38I've been listening to too much hunker games
- 41:40of the game makers of the Sims, what would you ask for?
- 41:43Like if you could say I want to be able to do this
- 41:46in the Sims, what would it be?
- 41:48- I think exactly what you just said,
- 41:49multiplayer Sims, like an open world multiplayer
- 41:52would be insane.
- 41:54Like RPG where we're all just hanging out together
- 41:57and going like, you know, store to store.
- 42:00Like Sean and Olivia start at the bar
- 42:03and then they're taking shots together
- 42:05and then they go shopping and then they go eat food.
- 42:07You're like, that would be amazing.
- 42:09Just like, I don't know, open player multiplayer kind of world,
- 42:13open world multiplayer.
- 42:14- Yeah, I would say I just asked one thing,
- 42:17but since you're asking for buying one thing,
- 42:20I can fully agree.
- 42:22I want to be able to like go to your town
- 42:25and sabotage your town even if you're not online.
- 42:28Like I think that'd be so fun.
- 42:30- That's messed up.
- 42:32- I really want to be able to, you know,
- 42:35mess with other people's towns and like go there
- 42:37and do things kind of, I guess in animal crossings
- 42:41you can't go mess with people's towns unless they're online,
- 42:44but I do like that version of it.
- 42:46But then I also want them to make the mods into real games
- 42:51where it's not cool to you.
- 42:55- Yeah, so just break your thing.
- 42:57And you know what, I agree, like they already know
- 43:00that most adults are downloading wicked whims, right?
- 43:03And so make it an 18 plus pack or something somehow.
- 43:07I don't know.
- 43:08- Yeah, video games still do that, don't they?
- 43:10- Yeah, and make us buy it.
- 43:12- Right, like 'cause we'll buy it.
- 43:13- We have Grand Theft Auto.
- 43:15Like let's get GTA,
- 43:17- Exactly.
- 43:18- And some to have a baby.
- 43:19I think that'd be so fun.
- 43:20- Oh my god, that's awesome.
- 43:21- Yeah, I really like the idea of those two things.
- 43:25And hopefully we will see some of that with the Sims universe.
- 43:30While Sean and I could go on for hours and hours
- 43:39talking about the Sims,
- 43:40if you can't tell, it's one of our passions.
- 43:43We have spent hours talking about this
- 43:46even outside of this podcast episode.
- 43:48But one thing that was announced shortly after the Barbie movie,
- 43:53which if you've never listened to our Barbie episode,
- 43:56it's one of our most popular episodes of all time.
- 43:59- Hi, Miss, we love the Barbie movie.
- 44:01- We go really, really deep into the movie,
- 44:04the Barbie universe as a whole, things around that.
- 44:08And it's just a great listen if I do say so myself.
- 44:12But as soon as I do say so, too yourself.
- 44:14- Yeah, myself, you too.
- 44:16- Yes, me, so you too say so.
- 44:18(laughing)
- 44:20And one of the things that was announced right after the Barbie movie
- 44:24was that there was a Sims movie in the works
- 44:28and Lucky Chap Entertainment was the one
- 44:31who secured the rights.
- 44:33Now if you're thinking Lucky Chap,
- 44:35that sounds super familiar.
- 44:37I wanted only our queen Margot Robbie got her hands
- 44:41on the Sims movie.
- 44:43I wanna hear your thoughts on the Sims movie.
- 44:47We obviously just spent a lot of time on it,
- 44:49but really quickly, Amazon and GM Studios
- 44:52is involved in the production.
- 44:54Katie Heron, who directed Loki.
- 44:58- Katie Heron, it's Kate.
- 45:00- For me, girls.
- 45:01(laughing)
- 45:03- Kate Heron, who directed Loki,
- 45:06the TV series, which you're a big fan of.
- 45:10- I am.
- 45:11- Is going to co-write the screenplay
- 45:14with Breonnie Redmond.
- 45:17And so it is kind of interesting because
- 45:20from what I know about Loki, it's a multiverse, right?
- 45:23- It is.
- 45:25I'm thinking the only thing.
- 45:26First of all, I'm sus of this, right?
- 45:28- Oh, really?
- 45:29- I am, but having it involved with Margot Robbie
- 45:33makes me feel more confident about it
- 45:35because I do like her work.
- 45:36I think she's very talented.
- 45:38Barbie was amazing.
- 45:39So that makes me feel a little better about it.
- 45:42I do also hope that it doesn't fall into this trap
- 45:45of the emoji movie and, oh gosh, angry birds movie.
- 45:50And like every, you know what I'm trying to say?
- 45:54Every little video game and every little thing
- 45:56needs a movie now.
- 45:58Minecraft movie.
- 45:59And then there are always just trash money grabs.
- 46:03But then, you know, bar fee, bar fee, the bar fee movie.
- 46:06(laughing)
- 46:09It's gonna be the sequel.
- 46:11The Barbie movie.
- 46:15I think it was mixing Buffy and Barbie.
- 46:17- Yeah. - So I came out bar fee.
- 46:19- It's okay, we know, we know.
- 46:21- Barbie was good.
- 46:22It was based off of a toy and it was very good.
- 46:24The Ouija porn movies have been good.
- 46:26But then they're making, I don't know,
- 46:29there's some other, oh, the Lego movies have been good.
- 46:31I don't know, it could be very hit and missed with me
- 46:33when it comes to turning a toy or a video game
- 46:38or something like that into a movie.
- 46:40Do you know what I mean?
- 46:41So I'm nervous, but I'm gonna watch it.
- 46:45And I think the only way that they could go with it
- 46:47is doing all of this stuff that we talked about
- 46:50this whole episode, all of the lore.
- 46:52- Yes, so I think it go a few ways.
- 46:55I think that it could be all about simulation theory.
- 47:00And like what I said, whatever we're just people
- 47:03and like where the sims and God is playing us.
- 47:06- Yes, ultimately, like that is such a common theory
- 47:10and belief now.
- 47:12Like when the Matrix came out, that was a crazy idea.
- 47:15But then now you look at kind of like where we are today
- 47:19and being in a simulation.
- 47:21Like people are just going for a show.
- 47:23- Yes, much more open to that kind of thought and thinking.
- 47:28And so I think that it could be that.
- 47:30I also see it really living within the sims lore
- 47:35that we discussed earlier as well.
- 47:38And then just like crazy, funny, wild, like things like that.
- 47:42- Yeah, it's gotta be funny for sure.
- 47:44We have to have Don Lathario, we have to have Belagoth
- 47:46and aliens, it's gotta be Goofy.
- 47:48- Yeah, and it's like we're gonna have a ladder taken out.
- 47:52There's gonna be like a lot of fan service,
- 47:55but I think not.
- 47:56Up until very recently, like video games turned into shows
- 48:00or movies has not really gone well.
- 48:04Like up until, I mean, there are some good ones.
- 48:07I think the Last of Us, which comes out in a couple weeks.
- 48:11- I don't know how excited I am.
- 48:13- It's usually with like first-person shooters though.
- 48:16So it's like Tomb Raider, Max Payne, The Last of Us.
- 48:21There have been a lot of them,
- 48:22but they haven't really been these like open world kind of games.
- 48:27- But I would take people like hated some of those as well.
- 48:31Like The Last of Us was widely received
- 48:34and people loved it, but a lot of fans of The Last of Us
- 48:38were like so afraid of it being turned into a TV show.
- 48:41- Oh, for sure.
- 48:42I was afraid too.
- 48:43I'm afraid for season two to come out,
- 48:44especially if you know what goes down.
- 48:47- I don't.
- 48:48- Oh my God, I will not spoil it.
- 48:49I will not spoil it.
- 48:50But yeah, but then like the Borderlands movie crashed and burned.
- 48:54- Yeah.
- 48:55- But again, that's like a first-person shooter.
- 48:57So I'm interested and I'm hesitant,
- 49:01but I think it's in good hands.
- 49:03- It's in good hands.
- 49:05- Yeah, I ultimately think that Margot Robbie
- 49:07like would not stake her reputation straight out of Barbie
- 49:12if she didn't believe that she could create a great movie
- 49:18with Kate Herron and Brianna Redmond.
- 49:24Like I think there's so much.
- 49:27Like we just talked about like a few families within.
- 49:30- Yeah, but there's so much.
- 49:32One game, right?
- 49:34And there's all these different things.
- 49:35And it could be like, oh, I moved into this one.
- 49:38Like it could even be like moving through the games
- 49:40the way we play that.
- 49:41- Yeah, there's like a whole haunted one.
- 49:43There's ghosts.
- 49:45Like you can summon the dead.
- 49:47Yeah, there's so many things that they could do.
- 49:50- I do.
- 49:51Like my biggest hope is simulation theory
- 49:54because I think that would be a really crazy
- 49:55like psychological thriller.
- 49:58- Oh my God, what if it's a psychological thriller?
- 50:01I would love that too.
- 50:03It's not a comedy.
- 50:04It's just a straight up mind-fucked.
- 50:05Just, oh my God, is any of this real?
- 50:08I love that.
- 50:09- Yeah, right?
- 50:10I think there's so much stuff that that could ultimately happen
- 50:13within that movie.
- 50:15So when I was doing the research for this episode
- 50:18and building everything out,
- 50:20I feel like I was kind of like you
- 50:22where I was like, that could be really, really bad,
- 50:25but really going through the history of the movie
- 50:28or of the movie, of the game itself
- 50:31and all that lore within it,
- 50:33I think that it can be really, really cool.
- 50:37And we have our trust in Margot Robbie.
- 50:41- We do.
- 50:43I think we're gonna watch it no matter what.
- 50:46- Yeah.
- 50:47- We'll just do it and see I suppose.
- 50:49- Absolutely.
- 50:49We're gonna get little green orbs up of our head
- 50:52and dress up-- - Pleboms.
- 50:53- Pleboms. - Well, pleboms.
- 50:56Pleboms. - Pleboms.
- 50:56- Pleboms. - Hello, yeah.
- 50:58- Pleboms.
- 50:58- We're gonna be talking about Sims, all over.
- 51:00- What's the, I feel like I always,
- 51:02about in Grovy?
- 51:04Oh, yes.
- 51:05(laughing)
- 51:07- So so. - Yeah, I mean,
- 51:09oh my God, I feel like they're a bunch of famous artists.
- 51:12I wish I would have pulled this that have done songs for.
- 51:15- Yes.
- 51:16- Yes, I do know Katy Perry re-recorded last Friday night,
- 51:19but in Simlish.
- 51:20And so it's just a bunch of gibberish.
- 51:24And that is so funny.
- 51:25So if you turn on the radio and the Sims for people
- 51:28who don't know, you can turn it to different genre stations.
- 51:31And sometimes if you turn it to the pop station,
- 51:34you'll go, wait, I know this song,
- 51:36but it is in the Sim language.
- 51:38Simlish. - Yes.
- 51:40- So some of them are last Friday night
- 51:42by Katy Perry pocketful sunshine.
- 51:46Don'tcha by the post-catch.
- 51:47- Yes.
- 51:48- Smile, shut up by the black eyed peas.
- 51:52Nana, na, pressure need you more than alive.
- 51:56So there's some really fun ones.
- 51:57- Oh yeah. - Like, chemical romance did it.
- 51:59- Yeah. - Yeah.
- 52:00- I love that.
- 52:01I respect artists you can have fun like that.
- 52:03- There's some really great Easter eggs within that.
- 52:05And yeah, I mean, the Sims is an iconic game.
- 52:08We love it.
- 52:09And, you know, unfortunately, it is time to go back
- 52:13to our real life now.
- 52:16- No. - And we can't stay in Sim City.
- 52:18I mean, I won't do this.
- 52:19- Sim City is kind of your real life.
