- 0:04Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Well, the plays get broken down, then science gets denied.
- 0:09Speaker 2: This I got to come off the Bitch.

- 0:27Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in now, number two of OTB.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Here live from the Raisin Kanes Studio. Remind you had
- 0:34Speaker 3: a friends of her Rous's. We're gonna be at Rouse's
- 0:36Speaker 3: burbanking Lee, just like we are every single Friday during
- 0:39Speaker 3: the football season. So come hang out, come join us,
- 0:42Speaker 3: come have breakfast with us. Always remember go to Rouses
- 0:45Speaker 3: dot com. Why are you giving me a website to
- 0:47Speaker 3: a grocery store. That's because you can find the one
- 0:49Speaker 3: that is nearest you, and you can find the deals
- 0:52Speaker 3: in the store that is nearest you. Always got something
- 0:54Speaker 3: going on, don't forget. Yeah, the Tigers are on the road,
- 0:56Speaker 3: but you're probably still going to host some kind of
- 0:58Speaker 3: a watch party. Go hey and get the spread at
- 1:01Speaker 3: roussouses dot com.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Uh. Doctor Stephen Natherwick is here with us. Yeah, Doc.
- 1:08Speaker 2: When the big voice lady says deny science, it's.
- 1:11Speaker 3: More like, you know, we're not denying. Yeah, yeah, it's
- 1:15Speaker 3: not medical science. It's not medical science.
- 1:17Speaker 2: It's it's more sunscreen.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Sunscreen denier a little bit. That's me carbon dating more
- 1:23Speaker 3: than anything. Yeah, definitely question carbon dating. All this thing's
- 1:27Speaker 3: millions and millions of years old.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Okay, hell, yes, dirt of course it is.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, just they kind of push or said dirt together
- 1:34Speaker 3: like a couple, you know, one hundred years ago.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it's appropriate. Yeah, So what's up, doc? Have you
- 1:40Speaker 2: doing doing well? Doing well? How about y'all? Strong to
- 1:44Speaker 2: quite strong.
- 1:45Speaker 3: I did wake up kind of sad that I told
- 1:46Speaker 3: him because I was dreaming that we were just beating
- 1:48Speaker 3: Baneville fourteen to three. But then when I realized it
- 1:51Speaker 3: was a dream, I felt much better about it.
- 1:52Speaker 2: You know, it's a great reference. It's funny.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I'm a little bit old than y'all.
- 1:55Speaker 5: So that movie came out my freshman year in college,
- 1:59Speaker 5: and I'm untile, and so they had the apartment.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Oh what about your recruitment to Florida State? Yeah, whole
- 2:04Speaker 2: theater goes matched down and sit there, and so where
- 2:07Speaker 2: was going scholarship the Florida State? So it was it
- 2:10Speaker 2: was a good memories for sure, all right.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Uh, LSU coming off of a bye week, so before
- 2:18Speaker 3: we get into some of the injuries across the country, Uh,
- 2:21Speaker 3: a little vibe check maybe across on the Ponderosa.
- 2:24Speaker 5: It's been good, you know, the the energy going back
- 2:26Speaker 5: to last week. You know, obviously a lot of a
- 2:28Speaker 5: lot of stuff going on. We've had a lot of changes,
- 2:30Speaker 5: a lot of movements, but I think the guys are
- 2:32Speaker 5: embracing it. Uh, definitely a lot of energy around the facility.
- 2:34Speaker 2: You know, sometimes change is good.
- 2:36Speaker 5: It can it can kind of bring in some needed momentum,
- 2:38Speaker 5: some needed kind of shifting. And at least that's how
- 2:40Speaker 5: it feels right now. You know, we'll we'll see Saturday,
- 2:42Speaker 5: but at least the vibes are very good.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yep.
- 2:45Speaker 6: That's kind of like why you get the air quote
- 2:48Speaker 6: interim bump, if you will, because like anytime there's some change,
- 2:52Speaker 6: especially when things are going poorly, you get hope, right,
- 2:55Speaker 6: you get a little bit of hope, a little bit
- 2:56Speaker 6: of extra energy, and it doesn't like guarantee that you're
- 2:58Speaker 6: gonna play great or guarantee that you're gonna But there's
- 3:01Speaker 6: an interim bump for a reason because like there's not
- 3:03Speaker 6: there's not not less talent in the building, right. You
- 3:06Speaker 6: see in the NFL too, there's not less talent on
- 3:08Speaker 6: a team. It's just like guys get new hope, they believe,
- 3:11Speaker 6: they get some more energy and just and I think
- 3:13Speaker 6: from all the reports including you like have said it,
- 3:16Speaker 6: the people that have been over there last week, this week,
- 3:19Speaker 6: the prices have been great, the energy has been awesome.
- 3:21Speaker 6: So fired up for this team, fired up for those
- 3:24Speaker 6: young men.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and there's still a great roster.
- 3:25Speaker 5: You know, we've talked about the roster going back to
- 3:27Speaker 5: you know, preseason, and this is a great roster.
- 3:29Speaker 2: You know. It's it's it's a hard league.
- 3:31Speaker 5: We're gonna lose some games probably, but let's just kind
- 3:33Speaker 5: of see see what we can do for on Saturday.
- 3:36Speaker 3: All right, Uh, let's you know, unfortunately, go ahead and
- 3:39Speaker 3: get to the injury for guy JD. Five elbows are
- 3:44Speaker 3: not supposed to go that way in the other direction.
- 3:48Speaker 3: When you see those like that, it's just terrible. And
- 3:50Speaker 3: we talked about with the camp scattered, but it's like
- 3:52Speaker 3: I don't need to see that replay. I saw it
- 3:54Speaker 3: live saw at once. That's that's good enough for me.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Same thing with Jayden and James was a little bit
- 3:58Speaker 3: harder to see live, and we were talking about it
- 4:00Speaker 3: almost felt like it was going to be a leg injury,
- 4:03Speaker 3: just because you could tell he was in some pain.
- 4:05Speaker 3: You weren't really sure, but man, when you watch, unfortunately
- 4:08Speaker 3: a replay found its way in front of me.
- 4:11Speaker 2: That was very difficult to watch.
- 4:12Speaker 3: And so what exactly you know do you think happened
- 4:16Speaker 3: and how long is that rehab?
- 4:17Speaker 5: Well, you know, it's it's an elbow dislocation, and those
- 4:20Speaker 5: are those are outside of the shoulder. As far as
- 4:22Speaker 5: big joints, that the second most common joint that gets dislocated,
- 4:25Speaker 5: you know, Yeah, so we see a fair number of them.
- 4:28Speaker 5: If we want to look at bright side. At least
- 4:30Speaker 5: it was his left arm, right, it's if this is
- 4:33Speaker 5: a quarterback with their throwing arm, that could be a
- 4:36Speaker 5: potential career ender or at the very least a devastating injury,
- 4:39Speaker 5: something you're gonna have to really spend a lot of time.
- 4:41Speaker 2: So we only the positives. It was his non non
- 4:44Speaker 2: dominant side, so that's a positive.
- 4:46Speaker 5: You know, typically that elbow when it dislocates, it goes backwards,
- 4:48Speaker 5: it dislocates post.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Here we kind of fall in that outstretched hand kind
- 4:51Speaker 2: of like you see.
- 4:52Speaker 5: And and you know they're there are injuries that, just
- 4:55Speaker 5: like any other dislocation, the most important question then becomes
- 4:58Speaker 5: what structures were injured, and right now you not really
- 5:00Speaker 5: sure how far the injury went. There are ligaments that
- 5:03Speaker 5: hold your joint in place. You have your capsule, you
- 5:05Speaker 5: have a lot of structures around it. And for a
- 5:08Speaker 5: joint to dislocate, you're probably gonna tear something. I mean,
- 5:10Speaker 5: it's just because he's gonna happen because you know, if
- 5:12Speaker 5: you think about it's fewing something the elbow, Yes, yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 5: and so something probably tore, and most of the times
- 5:16Speaker 5: you're at least gonna end up what's called an LCL
- 5:18Speaker 5: the lateral ligament, the ligand on the outside of the
- 5:20Speaker 5: elbow pretty much always tears. Yeah, you know, it's not
- 5:22Speaker 5: as important ass of a stabilizer as some of the others,
- 5:25Speaker 5: still important and and and so you're gonna have to
- 5:27Speaker 5: kind of see how he does. You know they're gonna
- 5:28Speaker 5: get an MRI, and you know it's it's a discussion.
- 5:31Speaker 5: I've had a lot of times when a partner is
- 5:32Speaker 5: doctor Field, who he loves to talk about the m
- 5:34Speaker 5: RAY and he's one of our elbow gurus. He's fantastic,
- 5:37Speaker 5: but you know that first MRI is always a horrible
- 5:39Speaker 5: and he's like, you know, you really can't see what's
- 5:41Speaker 5: going on until the swelling has gone down, the bleeding
- 5:43Speaker 5: has gone down, because you get at the initial MRY
- 5:45Speaker 5: and that it's gonna look like a bomb went off
- 5:46Speaker 5: in that elbow. And then sometimes as the swelling goes down,
- 5:49Speaker 5: you're like, Okay, it's not so bad, right, so so
- 5:51Speaker 5: we're gonna have to kind of wait and see and
- 5:52Speaker 5: and it's gonna be something that if it's unstable, they
- 5:55Speaker 5: may have to repair it and fix it. But if
- 5:56Speaker 5: it's something that he was pretty good, you can put
- 5:58Speaker 5: him in a brace and see him back out there
- 6:00Speaker 5: in a reasonable timeline, maybe even a few weeks.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I mean, Khalil magg did this for the Chargers.
- 6:05Speaker 3: He did the same thing edge rusher, and he missed
- 6:09Speaker 3: six weeks. Maybe it's back playing right now and now
- 6:11Speaker 3: he's got the heavy cast home. But that's an edge
- 6:13Speaker 3: rusher is not a quarterback, even with it being his
- 6:16Speaker 3: off arm, probably gonna spend a little bit time, you know,
- 6:19Speaker 3: more time than six weeks, just because you know you're
- 6:22Speaker 3: taking heads and you're falling to the ground, and.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't. He's your franchise guy, He's the future
- 6:26Speaker 2: of your franchise.
- 6:27Speaker 6: Daniels there. I mean, I don't think they're gonna be
- 6:30Speaker 6: seasons going their way. You put him, you put some
- 6:34Speaker 6: bubble wrap around him. Right now, I think that's this
- 6:36Speaker 6: is a third injury, third different injury of the season.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, he's been getting beat up.
- 6:40Speaker 5: It's not been a good year for our guys in
- 6:42Speaker 5: the league, at least art Heisman Trophy winners.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 6: So, like so when something like that happens and the
- 6:48Speaker 6: elbow just completely bends the wrong way, and like if that,
- 6:52Speaker 6: if that happens to a knee, right, that's that. I
- 6:54Speaker 6: think that's the comparable joint here from upper body lower body, Like,
- 6:57Speaker 6: if that happens to the knee, I mean we're talking ACM,
- 7:00Speaker 6: like all the all the ls that people know of
- 7:03Speaker 6: and hear of. But this doesn't happen to the elbow
- 7:05Speaker 6: a lot because the elbow it's a lot harder to
- 7:07Speaker 6: bend that way. You have to really hit it at
- 7:09Speaker 6: it right, the right amount of force, the right angle,
- 7:11Speaker 6: Like a lot of things have to go wrong, so
- 7:13Speaker 6: you talked about the outside ligament. But like you hear
- 7:17Speaker 6: a lot with throwers and elbows, a big elbow injury
- 7:19Speaker 6: a lot is like the nerve. Like so the oul
- 7:22Speaker 6: the nerve there is that like, is that a threat
- 7:25Speaker 6: to be?
- 7:26Speaker 4: Like?
- 7:26Speaker 2: What can happen to that? Can it be severed? Can
- 7:29Speaker 2: it be torn? Can?
- 7:30Speaker 4: Like?
- 7:30Speaker 2: What can happen to a nerve rather than a ligament?
- 7:32Speaker 5: So most of the times the nerve won't tear, but
- 7:34Speaker 5: it can get stretched and pulled, and in which case
- 7:36Speaker 5: you can get an injury to that nerve. Fortunately it's
- 7:39Speaker 5: most elbow dislocations. We don't get that.
- 7:41Speaker 2: But it is a risk.
- 7:42Speaker 5: And you know, if you have a nerve injury, you're
- 7:43Speaker 5: gonna have some numbness, maybe even weakness going down in
- 7:45Speaker 5: the hand, and that could be a big deal. You know,
- 7:47Speaker 5: the onner nerve is the one that's on the inside
- 7:49Speaker 5: and it is the one that's gonna be injured. It
- 7:51Speaker 5: goes to you down to your your fourth and fifth fingers,
- 7:53Speaker 5: so the ring finger and little finger, and again if
- 7:55Speaker 5: you have a guy that's trying to hold a ball,
- 7:57Speaker 5: that's trying to do those things, and those those those
- 7:59Speaker 5: those fingers aren't really able to sense it or grip it.
- 8:02Speaker 5: That could be a problem. So you know, again that
- 8:04Speaker 5: is something you have to watch for. Like I said,
- 8:05Speaker 5: fortunately it's not super calm with the elbow, but it
- 8:07Speaker 5: does happen.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Uh.
- 8:08Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:09Speaker 5: The other common injury sees the MCL the metal cloutteral ligament.
- 8:12Speaker 5: That's the Tommy John injury. Yes, you know, brock Perty
- 8:15Speaker 5: had that. U what's his face? The guy from Georgia's
- 8:17Speaker 5: now Miami. I'm drawing a blank. That's the injury he had. Yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 5: that's the injury he had. So so those are injuries that.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Totally like yeah, so, but you're kind of saying that
- 8:29Speaker 6: with an elbow injury that we might really not know
- 8:32Speaker 6: the significance of it for a couple of weeks. I'm
- 8:34Speaker 6: assuming an injury like that, there's gonna be some swelling
- 8:37Speaker 6: that takes place and that's not gonna go anywhere for
- 8:39Speaker 6: a little while.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, one percent. Like I said, they're gonna do
- 8:42Speaker 5: everything they can. They're gonna get the image and make
- 8:43Speaker 5: sure nothing broke. You're worry about fractures as well. If
- 8:46Speaker 5: the bony structures are good, you're gonna kind of watch it.
- 8:49Speaker 5: You're gonna let it, kind of let the swell and
- 8:51Speaker 5: go down. You're gonna reevaluate it, probably reimage it, get
- 8:54Speaker 5: a little better idea, and then you kind of move forward.
- 8:58Speaker 3: I feel like my shoulder went out of place, like
- 9:00Speaker 3: not all the time, but all the time, and it
- 9:02Speaker 3: was just like, hey, put it back in and get
- 9:04Speaker 3: back out there. How can you do that with a
- 9:05Speaker 3: shoulder and not elbow, knee, ankle?
- 9:09Speaker 2: You see it?
- 9:09Speaker 5: Well, the shoulder sometimes when it becomes loosened, it becomes unstable,
- 9:13Speaker 5: and you know you'll sublux it or even dislocate it,
- 9:15Speaker 5: and you know every time that happens, you do run
- 9:17Speaker 5: the risk of further injury. So that's one of the
- 9:19Speaker 5: downside has had obviously. But you know, look, I had
- 9:22Speaker 5: the exact same injury my right shoulder. I didn't fix
- 9:24Speaker 5: it until it was done playing ball, probably paying the
- 9:26Speaker 5: price for it now, but uh.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it would.
- 9:29Speaker 5: It would pop out about every every few games at
- 9:31Speaker 5: the best case scenario. And you know, yeah, shoulder, though,
- 9:34Speaker 5: it is a little looser, so once you loosen it up,
- 9:37Speaker 5: each dislocation, while significant, maybe a little less. Not not
- 9:40Speaker 5: condoning said behavior, not recommending that for our people out.
- 9:43Speaker 2: There, but uh, was the norm. Get it back in. Yeah,
- 9:46Speaker 2: you just gotta make that decisions. Yeah, we we watched
- 9:49Speaker 2: those a little bit. We realize the more times you dislocate,
- 9:51Speaker 2: the more damage. But you know, I would.
- 9:56Speaker 6: Every time your shoulder goes somewhere it's not supposed to,
- 9:59Speaker 6: damage is a little bit more.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Gosh.
- 10:01Speaker 3: We had a big game in two thousand and five.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I think it was Auburn at home. Yeah, Auburn at
- 10:07Speaker 2: home and just came out.
- 10:10Speaker 3: But it was like one of those games where the
- 10:12Speaker 3: fullback was in the game plan a lot and I
- 10:15Speaker 3: had I was still playing fullback, had.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Moved to tail back in, and I'm like, put this
- 10:18Speaker 2: thing back in. We got to get out there.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Every time that I hit one of the linebackers, I
- 10:24Speaker 3: could fill at the bottom of my feet one of
- 10:26Speaker 3: those just tingles.
- 10:27Speaker 2: But you know what, we got back out there. Do
- 10:29Speaker 2: what you gotta go. Yeah, okay, all right, that makes sense.
- 10:31Speaker 3: I always wondered because like you hear shoulders going out
- 10:34Speaker 3: more than you hear almost anything going out, and get
- 10:37Speaker 3: them back in and then get back out. Well, not
- 10:39Speaker 3: for a quarterback, probably for a meat had fullback. Same
- 10:42Speaker 3: thing with the shoulders, though, I would. I would say,
- 10:46Speaker 3: or I would ask you, are stingers kind of in
- 10:49Speaker 3: that same vein Like, once you start getting stingers, they
- 10:51Speaker 3: they're more likely to keep happening. And because I have
- 10:54Speaker 3: a couple of friends that played fullback in the NFL
- 10:56Speaker 3: and they're like, I had to retire because I was
- 10:58Speaker 3: getting like three stingers a day at practice.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, they can be.
- 11:01Speaker 5: More common once you have this stinger, and then it
- 11:03Speaker 5: goes down to the you know, the physiology of why
- 11:05Speaker 5: you're getting them, is it is it something in the
- 11:07Speaker 5: actual neck, which it's always a neck injury.
- 11:10Speaker 2: It's a little burner, no deal.
- 11:12Speaker 5: But if you have a spinal problem, then that's a
- 11:15Speaker 5: bigger concern. If there's something there, you know, that's causing
- 11:18Speaker 5: this repetitively. Sometimes there can be structural auttermalities in your
- 11:20Speaker 5: in your vertebrae that can cause these where you get
- 11:23Speaker 5: that nerve gets pinched, So that's a different injury. But
- 11:24Speaker 5: even if it's just a stretch injury that that can
- 11:27Speaker 5: once you do it, you're a little more prone to it,
- 11:28Speaker 5: especially in the short term after potentially what.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Makes that burn.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Feel like a stinger and a burner are different for me,
- 11:37Speaker 3: Like it was a different feeling.
- 11:39Speaker 5: So it's a nerve injury. Nerve injuries we often associate
- 11:42Speaker 5: with that burning sensation. Yeah, you have the nerves that
- 11:44Speaker 5: come out of your neck just call the brachial plexus
- 11:46Speaker 5: here in the shoulder, and usually it's this kind of
- 11:49Speaker 5: your your your head gets stretched to the side kind of.
- 11:51Speaker 2: In a lateral movement.
- 11:52Speaker 5: That's usually when that the most common presentation, and that
- 11:55Speaker 5: nerves get stretched and then wherever that nerve goes, that's
- 11:57Speaker 5: why you feel it go down the arm into the
- 11:58Speaker 5: hands and tingling the numb.
- 12:00Speaker 4: This.
- 12:00Speaker 2: You know, we worry about it when guys are weak.
- 12:02Speaker 5: So if you'll see us doing an assessment after a burner,
- 12:04Speaker 5: if a guy's weak, if his armed week, that for
- 12:06Speaker 5: me as a red flag. So those the injuries were
- 12:08Speaker 5: gonna probably hold you out. If you had a stinger
- 12:10Speaker 5: burner and it goes away, we're gonna let you go.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:14Speaker 6: I watched NFL games like and I like watch in
- 12:17Speaker 6: between plays, especially like after big hits, big collisions, and
- 12:19Speaker 6: you see like a safety coming to clean up after
- 12:22Speaker 6: like throwing a shoulder in there, and like you see
- 12:24Speaker 6: him get.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Up and they're kind of like they're kind of doing this.
- 12:26Speaker 6: And shaking it out and they got their heads tilted
- 12:29Speaker 6: like towards their shoulder a little bit, and you can
- 12:30Speaker 6: see him just like trying to shake it off before
- 12:32Speaker 6: they get back on the head.
- 12:33Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, it's a stinger. Huh, Yeah, that's exactly
- 12:36Speaker 2: what a stinger is. You'll be okay, stop being a baby.
- 12:39Speaker 2: It just burns there.
- 12:40Speaker 6: It burns like there's a thousand degree played on my neck.
- 12:44Speaker 2: But fine, it's gonna be okay. Exactly what it.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Feels like, all right, Last one, Doc, want to ask you.
- 12:51Speaker 3: We just had the NFL trade deadline yesterday. So when
- 12:54Speaker 3: somebody gets traded like this, obviously like you've got some
- 12:57Speaker 3: wear and tear because you're in the middle of the season.
- 13:00Speaker 3: What what like, what are those physicals like compared to
- 13:04Speaker 3: maybe preseason physic.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Maybe you know, are the same and same physical like
- 13:08Speaker 2: what's the difference? It's gonna be similar. You're gonna focus
- 13:11Speaker 2: on what you know.
- 13:12Speaker 5: You know at the NFL the rules with with their
- 13:14Speaker 5: injury you have to disclose everything. So and that's a
- 13:18Speaker 5: big part of you know, with with their injury updates
- 13:20Speaker 5: and all that, you have to have that information. Yea,
- 13:22Speaker 5: so you kind of know what the injuries are at
- 13:24Speaker 5: least you should. Now you're still gonna hopefully do your
- 13:26Speaker 5: due diligence. You're still gonna make sure that they're gon't
- 13:28Speaker 5: anything missed or whatever. But if you so, if you
- 13:30Speaker 5: had a guy and you know had a toe injury,
- 13:32Speaker 5: terf toe injury, you're gonna're gonna evaluate that.
- 13:34Speaker 2: You're gonna say, is this healed? Because most of these.
- 13:36Speaker 5: Trades are gonna have some kind of a clause. You know,
- 13:38Speaker 5: you have to pass the physical, you have to come
- 13:39Speaker 5: in and pass it or else we can kind of
- 13:40Speaker 5: avoid those those trades. So the guy is gonna come
- 13:43Speaker 5: in and you're gonna you're gonna definitely do a full physical,
- 13:46Speaker 5: but obvious you're gonna focus on those things you know
- 13:48Speaker 5: he has. You're gonna focus on the injuries that have
- 13:50Speaker 5: been on the injury reports. You're gonna focus on what
- 13:52Speaker 5: the other documentation has. Usually you're gonna get the records
- 13:54Speaker 5: from the other team's medical staff. That is something that
- 13:56Speaker 5: is traditionally shared, so you know it's not You probably
- 13:59Speaker 5: have a pretty good idea, but obviously want to put
- 14:01Speaker 5: hands on yourself to make sure, Hey, this thing really
- 14:03Speaker 5: is healed, this thing really is stable.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Whatever that situation might be.
- 14:06Speaker 6: How much of the decision, the final decision to make
- 14:09Speaker 6: a trade or to finalize it, it lies in the
- 14:12Speaker 6: hands of the doctor that gets the get the hands
- 14:15Speaker 6: on the athlete right there and do that physical. I mean,
- 14:18Speaker 6: I hear the stories and of you know that there's
- 14:20Speaker 6: a pain type injury or somebody coming, you know, out
- 14:22Speaker 6: of an injury. They'll take a bunch of anton flams
- 14:25Speaker 6: or painka because they want to be traded and they
- 14:27Speaker 6: want to pass the physical, so like they're juicing up
- 14:29Speaker 6: a little bit.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, it's it's and I think you're going
- 14:33Speaker 5: to find that it's going to be different with each organization.
- 14:35Speaker 5: I think some some of them are going to listen to
- 14:36Speaker 5: their medical staff more than others. Some of them are
- 14:38Speaker 5: going to say, hey, i've seen this guy play, he's
- 14:39Speaker 5: a baller, or hey we really need this guy. You know,
- 14:42Speaker 5: whatever the situation might be, everything else, you know, forget it.
- 14:45Speaker 5: But I think with each organization you will see there
- 14:48Speaker 5: have definitely been, you know, some classic situations. I mean,
- 14:50Speaker 5: probably the one we've all talked about the most is
- 14:51Speaker 5: with Breeze not getting cleared in Miami ends up here
- 14:54Speaker 5: in the Saints, you know, and that was a big deal,
- 14:56Speaker 5: and that was that goes back to the medical staff,
- 14:57Speaker 5: their opinions on what they thought he'd be able to
- 14:59Speaker 5: do moving forward. And and so I think, like I said,
- 15:01Speaker 5: you'll see different organizations that are gonna put very very
- 15:04Speaker 5: heavy reliance on their medical staff and others that you know,
- 15:06Speaker 5: you have a GM that or coach is gonna say, hey,
- 15:08Speaker 5: we're gonna go, We're gonna go with this guys. I
- 15:09Speaker 5: don't care what y'all said, you know, it was it
- 15:11Speaker 5: was interesting. I had the benefit of going to Combine
- 15:14Speaker 5: one year and just seeing how that works. And it
- 15:18Speaker 5: is crazy on the medical side because you know, we're
- 15:22Speaker 5: you all been through you see that the physical, but
- 15:23Speaker 5: then hearing the conversations in the room and it's and
- 15:26Speaker 5: it's it's the same type of thing these medical staffs
- 15:27Speaker 5: and we may not all agree.
- 15:29Speaker 7: You know.
- 15:29Speaker 2: I was there.
- 15:29Speaker 5: We were working with the Saints and we're talking about
- 15:31Speaker 5: these guys and it's like, hey, we want you to
- 15:33Speaker 5: give them a grade, and then we want you to
- 15:34Speaker 5: give them a number. So the grade would be like
- 15:36Speaker 5: a which nobody had an except for a punter. That
- 15:38Speaker 5: means you've never had an injury, so maybe a punter,
- 15:40Speaker 5: somebody had an A. Most guys were b's and c's,
- 15:42Speaker 5: but even with the c's then they wanted you to
- 15:43Speaker 5: give me a number. So if you were a C five,
- 15:45Speaker 5: that means you had some medical stuff coming in. With
- 15:47Speaker 5: that medical stuff, I think you make five years. And
- 15:50Speaker 5: so we had to make our best guess. I mean,
- 15:51Speaker 5: these are these are your guestimates. And you know we
- 15:53Speaker 5: might give you a C five, and you know that
- 15:54Speaker 5: the packers might have given you a C eight, and
- 15:56Speaker 5: you know the organizers might give you a B. You know,
- 15:58Speaker 5: and it's it's so it's not all read upon. But
- 16:00Speaker 5: we're even though we're all there together doing these exams
- 16:02Speaker 5: and and and for me to see that and get
- 16:04Speaker 5: a part of that, and you'd have to and you hear.
- 16:06Speaker 2: How much stock is put into it like that one number.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Like the decisions that I've been made on a guy's
- 16:12Speaker 6: future based on that one number.
- 16:13Speaker 2: That yeah, and.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Probably well, look, we had a A that same year.
- 16:16Speaker 5: We had an offensive lineman he was going through and
- 16:19Speaker 5: he had some bad knees.
- 16:20Speaker 2: And I heard the guy's talk.
- 16:22Speaker 5: Broke my heart because a good kid hearing the discussions
- 16:25Speaker 5: going on about him, and I was just like, man,
- 16:26Speaker 5: so and then the kid didn't get drafted, kid that
- 16:28Speaker 5: probably was a draftable talent. And and and to be fair,
- 16:31Speaker 5: I had a lot of medical stuff and and so
- 16:33Speaker 5: I understood the discussion. But to be a guy that
- 16:35Speaker 5: knew this kid, that cared about this kid, you know,
- 16:37Speaker 5: being there from the college side, it was it was
- 16:39Speaker 5: it was heartbreaking, you know. And so without a doubt,
- 16:41Speaker 5: every year there are guys whose careers are probably oh yeah,
- 16:44Speaker 5: yeah at the combine.
- 16:46Speaker 6: And if we could tell your first sam from the
- 16:48Speaker 6: combine experience, Like I was coming off of ac joint
- 16:50Speaker 6: spring Day Sea joint like a month month and a
- 16:52Speaker 6: half before, and it felt great going into the combine.
- 16:57Speaker 6: But by the time the thirty second doctor had pulled
- 17:00Speaker 6: and tugged and whatever on my shoulder, I was like,
- 17:02Speaker 6: it hurts now, anything would hurt.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Now get evaluated by everybody, and they're they're pulling it,
- 17:08Speaker 2: they're putting it. Yeah. I had this doctor name heavy Hands,
- 17:11Speaker 2: doctor Benson at the combine for the Saints. I was like,
- 17:16Speaker 2: doctor Mason, chill it on the knee, Chill, Chill, chill, chill. Yeah.
- 17:20Speaker 3: I've had a couple surgeries It's okay. They don't need
- 17:23Speaker 3: to know that, all right.

- 19:07Speaker 2: Like the.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Comis if we beat.
- 19:17Speaker 2: These days.
- 19:22Speaker 3: From the phone.
- 19:23Speaker 2: See I've been holding back this from.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Probably shouldn't.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Miss how the telestrator? Where go yesterday? So God feel confident.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I felt way more of it.
- 19:56Speaker 7: I was on.
- 19:57Speaker 2: I'll played with an hour and a half after. Yeah,
- 20:00Speaker 2: I go until noon, until noon till then.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Yeah, because I left there and I came back at
- 20:08Speaker 3: like eleven fifty and he was still right in that
- 20:11Speaker 3: same seat.
- 20:13Speaker 2: So I feel good about it. He was proud. He
- 20:16Speaker 2: was pretty good by the time I got back. Yeah,
- 20:18Speaker 2: I was. I had the tools loaded up. But the
- 20:19Speaker 2: problem is is.
- 20:20Speaker 6: I still got to get clips downloaded on there to
- 20:24Speaker 6: do it. So we're not ready to go live yet.
- 20:26Speaker 2: No, hopefully wait which clips are you trying to download?
- 20:29Speaker 2: I don't got the part got that far yet. We're
- 20:34Speaker 2: not ready to go live.
- 20:35Speaker 7: No.
- 20:36Speaker 3: I thought you said we're doing film today. Oh we can,
- 20:39Speaker 3: but just not with a telephone. It's kind of disappointing. Well, sorry,
- 20:48Speaker 3: I had I had meetings to go to. Some people
- 20:52Speaker 3: don't take the bye week as serious as they should,
- 20:55Speaker 3: and starting to show a little.
- 20:57Speaker 6: Was just talking about how long I worked on the telestrade.
- 20:59Speaker 6: It took a while start getting used to them. Buttons.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you gotta familiarize yourself with it. Should send the
- 21:06Speaker 2: video of the film that you were breaking down yesterday
- 21:10Speaker 2: so he could play it. Took a video of that.
- 21:15Speaker 2: I don't know that that's alady. No, I don't know
- 21:18Speaker 2: that that's ready. I don't think Yeah, yeah, left tackle
- 21:24Speaker 2: here there. We don't have to play it anyway, because
- 21:29Speaker 2: I thought I did. Yeah, that's right on, all right,
- 21:33Speaker 2: it's okay, we'll get that. We'll get done.
- 21:35Speaker 3: We are going to watch some Alabama tape if I'm
- 21:37Speaker 3: not mistaken, right, didn't you say that yeah mm hmm
- 21:41Speaker 3: our three all right, just making sure I didn't know
- 21:44Speaker 3: how much advance notice I had to give you.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll watch a little bit.
- 21:49Speaker 6: Like so, I've been watching the Bama Tennessee film quite
- 21:52Speaker 6: a bit because I would say the Tennessee offense from
- 21:55Speaker 6: a schematic standpoint, from a personnel standpoint, pretty similar to
- 22:00Speaker 6: what ls She tries to do. They do a lot
- 22:01Speaker 6: of eleven personnel. They do, oh my god, an noxious
- 22:06Speaker 6: amount of like wide receiver screens. So I wanted to
- 22:08Speaker 6: see how they defended that, you know, spoiler alert. I
- 22:13Speaker 6: think Tennessee game two yards one time, those their biggest
- 22:15Speaker 6: game on a wide receiver screen.
- 22:18Speaker 2: But I wanted to that.
- 22:19Speaker 6: That's how I wanted to watch their defense. And I
- 22:21Speaker 6: watched this Alabama team. I watched this Alabama defense and
- 22:25Speaker 6: just nothing, like there's nothing, there's not one thing to
- 22:28Speaker 6: put your like hold your hat on and say like
- 22:32Speaker 6: that is that's scary right there? Like they're really good
- 22:35Speaker 6: at that. They're they're a sound defense. They got some
- 22:38Speaker 6: pillars in the inside of the defensive linemen on the
- 22:40Speaker 6: in the running game that are just big, strong boys
- 22:43Speaker 6: and they can sit there and they can hold point
- 22:45Speaker 6: and it's tough to move them.
- 22:47Speaker 2: That's a that. But they're not making a bunch of tackles.
- 22:50Speaker 2: They do a really good job.
- 22:51Speaker 6: They're three techniques, they're one techniques is doing a good
- 22:53Speaker 6: job of just clogging up and making two people block
- 22:56Speaker 6: them in the running game.
- 22:57Speaker 2: They do that well.
- 22:58Speaker 6: Number forty two is there pass rusher. What's his name
- 23:02Speaker 6: something Pierre and then Pierre something like that. But he's
- 23:07Speaker 6: got four sacks. He's got four sacks. Like he's their
- 23:10Speaker 6: best pass rusher. He's not overly athletic. He's got a
- 23:13Speaker 6: high motor. He's got a good swim move, a rip
- 23:17Speaker 6: and dip move if you will.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Uh.
- 23:20Speaker 6: And he's like I said, he's got a high motor,
- 23:21Speaker 6: but he's not a game changer in the fact, like
- 23:25Speaker 6: your number one premier pass rusher traditionally is. I think
- 23:28Speaker 6: he's tied in the sixteenth in the SEC with sacks.
- 23:31Speaker 6: He's got four. I think he had two of them
- 23:32Speaker 6: against Tennessee. So there's not just one thing that you're like,
- 23:36Speaker 6: oh man, this is a scary defense there. We're gonna
- 23:38Speaker 6: have tough time putting up points. Their secondary sound really good.
- 23:43Speaker 6: They got a they got a one of their safeties
- 23:45Speaker 6: that plays down low. He's got a lot of tackles
- 23:48Speaker 6: on the year. He does a good job in the
- 23:49Speaker 6: running game, but there's just not like one thing, so
- 23:53Speaker 6: like it's not a fearful defense when you're going into
- 23:57Speaker 6: it in game plan.
- 23:57Speaker 2: And so again it's Alabama playing sound. They're very well coached.
- 24:02Speaker 6: They're not going to make any glaring mistakes and you know,
- 24:05Speaker 6: leave too many people just like sitting wide open. Do
- 24:08Speaker 6: a lot of his own coverage though they're not playing
- 24:10Speaker 6: a ton of man. They'll bring zero on you a
- 24:12Speaker 6: little bit, which is cover zero, which is they bring
- 24:14Speaker 6: blitz everybody man a man coverage, no help over there.
- 24:18Speaker 6: They'll do that against Selshue because people have done it
- 24:20Speaker 6: against ael A Shoe and we haven't had answers for it.
- 24:23Speaker 6: And when we have had answers, it just wasn't schematically
- 24:27Speaker 6: very sound. And playing a young running back as well,
- 24:30Speaker 6: you're gonna blitz them. It's just gonna happen. Yeah, you
- 24:33Speaker 6: put the young running back in because he's your best runner,
- 24:36Speaker 6: he's got the best vision, he's of the most success.
- 24:38Speaker 6: But that also comes with they're gonna challenge him with
- 24:41Speaker 6: different looks and they should and that's the way, and
- 24:44Speaker 6: he's had a bye week to work on that. So, yeah,
- 24:46Speaker 6: you're gonna get a lot of variants on the defensive
- 24:49Speaker 6: side of the ball with Alabama.
- 24:50Speaker 2: But as long as we don't run, as long as
- 24:54Speaker 2: we don't.
- 24:55Speaker 6: Complete close to half our passes behind the line of scrimmage,
- 24:58Speaker 6: I think will be okay. And if we do what
- 25:00Speaker 6: we haven't done in the past lates in the last
- 25:02Speaker 6: two games, we've completed only two passes in between the
- 25:06Speaker 6: hashes of past five yards.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, i' numbers probably got to go up a bet.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I would got to go up a bet. Yeah, you
- 25:11Speaker 2: gotta take the caution tape off that part of the field. Yep.
- 25:15Speaker 2: If you do that, you got a chance.
- 25:18Speaker 3: All right, Well, we're gonna catch up with the interim
- 25:21Speaker 3: head coach, Frank Wilson of the Lshue Fighting Tigers when
- 25:24Speaker 3: we come back here on OTB off the bench.
- 25:28Speaker 2: All right.
- 25:29Speaker 3: If you're looking to make your next tailgate or game
- 25:31Speaker 3: day legendary, you can do it with Dosaki, the official
- 25:35Speaker 3: beer of fans who keep it interesting. So whether you're
- 25:39Speaker 3: grilling outside Tiger Stadium or watching from the couch, crack
- 25:42Speaker 3: open an ice cool do Ski's logger and raise one
- 25:45Speaker 3: to good friends, good times in great football. Stay thirsty,
- 25:49Speaker 3: my friends, and make sure your next round, of course,
- 25:53Speaker 3: is a do sakis. It is always a great time
- 25:56Speaker 3: to go for dose. Oh man, I love a do sekis.
- 25:59Speaker 3: We live in the Uiannah. We live in South Louisiana,
- 26:01Speaker 3: and there's one thing.
- 26:03Speaker 6: That we know is we knowed how to have an
- 26:05Speaker 6: adult beverage and do responsibly, of course, but we know
- 26:08Speaker 6: to have a We like a little adult beverage.
- 26:10Speaker 2: So if you're going to do it, it's perfect week.
- 26:12Speaker 2: We had a bye week.
- 26:13Speaker 6: Now it's game day l s U versus Alabama. Perfect
- 26:16Speaker 6: time to go for dose to delete. Maybe a few beers.
- 26:20Speaker 6: I think I might have one and I got a
- 26:22Speaker 6: got a old friend in town gonna go meet. I
- 26:24Speaker 6: might have a couple of dose seconds. We'll see. Go
- 26:27Speaker 6: for does trick responsibly?
- 26:28Speaker 2: Go for this.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Two thousand and seven Champs Purple and Gold to the core.
- 26:42Speaker 1: This is off the Bench with Hester and Flynn, Baton
- 26:45Speaker 1: Rougees go to for all things Louisiana sports.
- 27:01Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in ot be here live from
- 27:03Speaker 3: the Raisin Kane Studio. Very excited for our next guest,
- 27:07Speaker 3: it is our guy, the interim head coach for the
- 27:09Speaker 3: LSU Fighting Tigers. Coach Frank Wilson joins us. Now, coach,
- 27:12Speaker 3: what's going on? How are you doing this morning?
- 27:14Speaker 7: I'm doing well? How you doing, Matt?
- 27:16Speaker 3: How you doing?
- 27:16Speaker 2: Jacob doing fantastic?
- 27:18Speaker 3: Glad to have you on, Excited to have you on,
- 27:20Speaker 3: Excited about the opportunity for LSU this weekend and Tuscaloosa.
- 27:25Speaker 2: So coach just kind of want.
- 27:26Speaker 3: To, you know, go back and look at the time
- 27:29Speaker 3: when you find out you're going to be the interim
- 27:32Speaker 3: head coach for the LSU Tigers, just because coach, I've
- 27:35Speaker 3: known you for a long time.
- 27:36Speaker 2: I know what this place means to you, I know
- 27:37Speaker 2: what this state means to you.
- 27:39Speaker 3: So when you found out that you were going to
- 27:41Speaker 3: be in charge of this football program moving forward for
- 27:44Speaker 3: the rest of the season, what was that moment.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Like for you?
- 27:48Speaker 7: It was gratifying. My immediate thought was, Okay, what's the
- 27:54Speaker 7: first thing we need to do to hold this team together.
- 27:58Speaker 7: What's the first thing we need to do to give
- 28:00Speaker 7: us stability and understanding that we're going to be all right?
- 28:04Speaker 7: And so my immediate concern turned to our try student athletes,
- 28:08Speaker 7: to our kids in preparation to give them mindset, to
- 28:14Speaker 7: give them understanding and answers because they were confused and
- 28:19Speaker 7: they were surprised, and so we're an emotional being and
- 28:23Speaker 7: all those array of feelings happen, and so I just
- 28:27Speaker 7: wanted to serve our student athletes and then also to
- 28:31Speaker 7: meet with our staff and support staff because it affects
- 28:34Speaker 7: them as well. To have conversation with those guys, this
- 28:37Speaker 7: is where we're at, this is what we're trying to accomplish,
- 28:41Speaker 7: and here's what we can control, and there's some things
- 28:43Speaker 7: we can't control, you know. And so to have those
- 28:47Speaker 7: conversations was the most most important thing for me. And
- 28:51Speaker 7: you would think it would be a time of jubilation,
- 28:54Speaker 7: but didn't have time for it.
- 28:57Speaker 3: We'll coach, and that's where I was going to go next. Like,
- 29:00Speaker 3: what has maybe been the main focus this week? Is
- 29:02Speaker 3: it resetting your mindset? Is it scheme or is it
- 29:05Speaker 3: just reminding the guys what else you football is supposed
- 29:08Speaker 3: to look like?
- 29:10Speaker 7: Yeah, and so it is mean, tough and nasty. Yep,
- 29:14Speaker 7: let's get back to DNA. Let's let's let's let's remember
- 29:18Speaker 7: who we are. Let's not forget who we are.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Uh.
- 29:22Speaker 7: And not that those things has not been preached and
- 29:25Speaker 7: said to them, because they have. But here's how I
- 29:29Speaker 7: believe that looks for us. All Right, So we're not
- 29:33Speaker 7: gonna just talk it, We're gonna walk it. And and
- 29:36Speaker 7: here's the style of play, here's the methodology of it.
- 29:40Speaker 7: Uh to to earn that, to get that, so that
- 29:44Speaker 7: we we go into this game with a mindset knowing
- 29:47Speaker 7: that the most physical football team is going to win
- 29:50Speaker 7: this football game.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Coach the.
- 29:57Speaker 6: When something like this happens, when when there's a change
- 30:00Speaker 6: mid season, I think it's easy to forget in this
- 30:02Speaker 6: day and age in college football, with you know, contracts
- 30:04Speaker 6: the way they are, with with nil the way it is,
- 30:07Speaker 6: it's easy to get kind of lost in the whole
- 30:09Speaker 6: business side of things that there's a there's a human
- 30:12Speaker 6: aspect to all of this, from support staff to coaches
- 30:15Speaker 6: that you you single out individually the players now in
- 30:18Speaker 6: this world, like it's hard to avoid the outside noise
- 30:22Speaker 6: right when, especially when things are going poorly, and the
- 30:27Speaker 6: message is easy to say, like we got to control,
- 30:29Speaker 6: we control, we got to be together, But how do
- 30:31Speaker 6: you put that into practice of telling the kids, telling
- 30:34Speaker 6: the players like, don't look at what everybody else is saying,
- 30:38Speaker 6: don't look at that outside noise, and just focus on
- 30:41Speaker 6: what we're doing no matter because it's hard to avoid
- 30:43Speaker 6: the social media, is the interviews, all that stuff.
- 30:46Speaker 2: How do you put that into practice each and every day.
- 30:49Speaker 7: Yeah, I think there's there's a way that you would
- 30:53Speaker 7: articulate that, and then there's a way that you live it. Right,
- 30:57Speaker 7: and so from the time we get together at two o'clock,
- 31:03Speaker 7: let's let's take care of the business at hand. This
- 31:06Speaker 7: is our emphasis today, this is our dress.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Of the day.
- 31:10Speaker 7: This is not just what we're doing, this is why
- 31:12Speaker 7: we're doing it. And so it's our responsibility to equip
- 31:16Speaker 7: you with not just what we're doing, but the why
- 31:19Speaker 7: and how we're going to do it. And I think
- 31:22Speaker 7: the more information and the more that we're able to
- 31:26Speaker 7: act it out, to model it, to show it, the
- 31:29Speaker 7: greater buying it is. For the student athletes. You know,
- 31:32Speaker 7: you can say be tough, or you can say don't
- 31:37Speaker 7: worry about it. Well, you're human, right, and in the
- 31:41Speaker 7: humanistic world, you're going to have these feelings. That's okay,
- 31:44Speaker 7: that's not abnormal. Here's ways that you can help cope
- 31:48Speaker 7: with that. Here's a piece that when you have player
- 31:51Speaker 7: interview at the end, at the end of practice, here's
- 31:55Speaker 7: our unified voice and our message to our loyal fans
- 32:01Speaker 7: and where we're at now. You put that in your words,
- 32:05Speaker 7: but we have one voice in how we're going to
- 32:07Speaker 7: go about conducting our business. It's going to start here
- 32:11Speaker 7: and it's going to matriculate all the way down from
- 32:14Speaker 7: the training room to the weight room, to sports medicine
- 32:20Speaker 7: to the cafeteria. This is us, this is who we are.
- 32:25Speaker 7: This is all in and it's our theme, and we're
- 32:28Speaker 7: all in and we're going to live it. We're gonna
- 32:30Speaker 7: act it, and we're going to show our players by
- 32:32Speaker 7: being demonstrative and the way that we live and do
- 32:35Speaker 7: our business.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Catching up with LSU interm coach Frank Wilson here on
- 32:40Speaker 3: OTB Coach, You've always been known as one of the
- 32:43Speaker 3: best recruiters in the country. How important is it right
- 32:46Speaker 3: now to keep that Louisiana wall strong. I'm sure there's questions,
- 32:51Speaker 3: but this is a class that has a lot of talent.
- 32:53Speaker 3: It's got five stars, it's got guys from Louisiana already
- 32:56Speaker 3: committed to LSU. What has it been like on the
- 32:59Speaker 3: recruiting from trying to make sure that wall stay strong.
- 33:02Speaker 7: You know, every situation is unique, you know. So some
- 33:05Speaker 7: of them are conversations with the student athlete, some of
- 33:09Speaker 7: them are conversations with the high school coach. Some in
- 33:12Speaker 7: the world that we live in as a conversation with
- 33:15Speaker 7: their agents, you know, or their grandparent or whatever it
- 33:19Speaker 7: may be. Understanding identifying who are those people that are
- 33:23Speaker 7: most impactful, influential to the student athlete, giving them information.
- 33:29Speaker 7: Yet again, no different than our current team, our current staff,
- 33:33Speaker 7: that we can't and won't allow somebody to speak on
- 33:37Speaker 7: our behalf that in the midst of all that's going on,
- 33:42Speaker 7: that they can't have a void in communication because then
- 33:46Speaker 7: it creates chaos, and so we have to handle the
- 33:51Speaker 7: communication piece. We have to fill in and then say
- 33:55Speaker 7: to them, you have a direct line, all right, so
- 34:01Speaker 7: you don't have to wonder. They don't have to speak
- 34:03Speaker 7: for us. You have a direct line to the source.
- 34:07Speaker 7: So all your questions are your concerns lim here, bring
- 34:11Speaker 7: them here so that we can give you comfort and
- 34:13Speaker 7: equip you also with a knowledge base. Up now, I
- 34:17Speaker 7: understand what happening with my school. No that's not true.
- 34:20Speaker 7: I talked to coach. Here's what he said. And as
- 34:24Speaker 7: we we moved through this, this what we call thirty
- 34:28Speaker 7: count down the signing Day, thirty days away. Just our approach,
- 34:33Speaker 7: we've been doing it, tightening it. Tonight is our big
- 34:36Speaker 7: power hour where we will continue to do so. And
- 34:41Speaker 7: there's a game plan that involves everybody from our n
- 34:47Speaker 7: I LSU to our to our sports medicine department, our
- 34:54Speaker 7: training department, admissions and applications. As we move forward to
- 34:59Speaker 7: these kids who are mid year graduates, what does that
- 35:02Speaker 7: look like? And so we're going about business and we're
- 35:05Speaker 7: positioning ourselves what every viable part, every branch that's in
- 35:12Speaker 7: this process of transition of onboarding so that they have
- 35:17Speaker 7: answers and there's no void there And nope, I did that. Nope,
- 35:20Speaker 7: but yeah, I got my flu shot. I talked to
- 35:22Speaker 7: my counselor, we got the transcript. Ordered. Oh no, Coach
- 35:25Speaker 7: sent me the link. So I'm gonna make applications for
- 35:28Speaker 7: school today and on and on and on and so
- 35:31Speaker 7: we're very conscientious, very strategic in our approach and getting
- 35:35Speaker 7: them to the finish line, which is National Signing Day.
- 35:39Speaker 6: Could you mentioned the words earlier, mean, tough, and nasty.
- 35:43Speaker 6: Those are three words that I think every LSU fan listening. Man,
- 35:48Speaker 6: it gives you a little chillbumps, makes the hair on
- 35:50Speaker 6: the back of your next sand up, and unfortunately sometimes
- 35:52Speaker 6: it feels a little nostalgic.
- 35:53Speaker 2: When we think about those words with LSU football.
- 35:56Speaker 6: Well, this week we heard the reports Blake Baker talking
- 35:58Speaker 6: to you about, Hey, let's pract this little mean, tough
- 36:01Speaker 6: and nasty.
- 36:01Speaker 7: You got you guys. You guys would have loved practice. Yes,
- 36:05Speaker 7: I know, come out listen, man, it was it was.
- 36:10Speaker 7: It was one Uh you would have been proud of.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:13Speaker 7: Your your your tigers fought like tigers.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Uh.
- 36:17Speaker 7: They competed, Uh with the physicality. Uh, that that we've
- 36:22Speaker 7: been built upon. So we had a great day of practice.
- 36:24Speaker 7: They sorry about that.
- 36:25Speaker 2: I love it.
- 36:26Speaker 6: That's exactly where I was going, Coach. I wanted to
- 36:29Speaker 6: know about practice. I wanted to see how those kids compete.
- 36:32Speaker 6: I mean, we're talking about mid season, coach, we're talking
- 36:35Speaker 6: about resetting the standard with mean, tough, and nasty. And
- 36:38Speaker 6: I love hearing those words from me, and I love
- 36:40Speaker 6: hearing the practice report.
- 36:43Speaker 7: Yeah, so they they embraced it. Uh, certainly you know,
- 36:46Speaker 7: it was controlled. We didn't take people to the ground,
- 36:50Speaker 7: but in the trenches, in that box and in spaces,
- 36:54Speaker 7: there's opportunity to be sincere with contact, as we say,
- 36:58Speaker 7: kissing with your face mask, call your hips, you fit
- 37:01Speaker 7: them and let him run. And so it was thud,
- 37:05Speaker 7: but it was it was one that our kids enjoyed,
- 37:10Speaker 7: had fun in doing so. And you know what we
- 37:12Speaker 7: can do that we can block, that we can run,
- 37:16Speaker 7: that we can fit that at warp speed. And so
- 37:20Speaker 7: we challenged our team to do so and they responded
- 37:23Speaker 7: in a very positive.
- 37:24Speaker 6: Manner because we saw media had some availability yesterday and
- 37:27Speaker 6: we saw some pictures and some looks at the all
- 37:30Speaker 6: in drum in the team meter and tell us a.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Little bit about that, you know.
- 37:34Speaker 7: So, so here's the buy in for us. There's one
- 37:38Speaker 7: year that there's an offense, there's a defense, and then
- 37:41Speaker 7: there's a combination of offense and defense that comprise and
- 37:44Speaker 7: make up our special teams with our specialists. But the game,
- 37:48Speaker 7: the game doesn't start until the official put that ball
- 37:52Speaker 7: in play. When that ball goes in play, it breathes
- 37:55Speaker 7: life into the game. And so we call it the heartbeat,
- 37:59Speaker 7: the heartbeat of our foot. At the end of the game,
- 38:02Speaker 7: when the official takes that ball and raises in the air,
- 38:05Speaker 7: the time have expired. It's deceased. There's no more football
- 38:08Speaker 7: to be played. And so when we on certain days,
- 38:12Speaker 7: when we start our special teams, it starts with the heartbeat,
- 38:17Speaker 7: and it's it's not something I came up with. It's
- 38:19Speaker 7: something that Pete Carroll came up with many years ago,
- 38:24Speaker 7: and I learned from d oseron and have carried it
- 38:28Speaker 7: with me for years, and so I just think it's
- 38:32Speaker 7: it's resounding, it's it's very direct for our players, for
- 38:37Speaker 7: our team to understand that when you go out there
- 38:41Speaker 7: for the first snap, you set the tone. It's the
- 38:43Speaker 7: heartbeat of what we do. And so we just gave
- 38:47Speaker 7: it life. We wanted to breed life into our team,
- 38:50Speaker 7: into our special teams with the heartbeat, with the drum
- 38:53Speaker 7: being symbolic of that of a heart palpitating, and so
- 38:57Speaker 7: it's a boom boom boom, boom, boom boom, and then
- 39:01Speaker 7: as it gets faster and faster, it's almost at a
- 39:04Speaker 7: cardiac rate to allow us to explode on the kickoff
- 39:08Speaker 7: or kickoff return.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Well, I love that, love that answer all right.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Last one coach before we get you out here, and
- 39:12Speaker 3: we certainly do appreciate your time.
- 39:16Speaker 2: When the Tiger fans watch your team.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Take the field this weekend, what do you want them
- 39:22Speaker 3: to see and what do you want them to feel.
- 39:25Speaker 2: About L s U Football?
- 39:27Speaker 7: Yeah, I like them. I think what they will see
- 39:30Speaker 7: is a team that's willing to fight, a team that's
- 39:33Speaker 7: willing to strain, a team that has no quit in them,
- 39:38Speaker 7: that's going to do everything in their power to position
- 39:41Speaker 7: themselves to be victorious. We're going, We're going to fight
- 39:46Speaker 7: this team. We're going We're going to pick a fight
- 39:49Speaker 7: and step the tones from the onset of the game.
- 39:52Speaker 7: I think I like our fans at the end of
- 39:55Speaker 7: the game to be proud and say, Okay, all right,
- 39:58Speaker 7: here we go. That's we've that's what we're you stuff,
- 40:02Speaker 7: that's our Tigers uh InStyle of play. I don't know
- 40:05Speaker 7: what the outcome will be. Here's what I can tell you, though,
- 40:09Speaker 7: We're going to pick a fight, all right. We're going
- 40:13Speaker 7: uh to talk with our helmets and our shoulder pads
- 40:18Speaker 7: in the right way, in the way that Tigers play.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Let's go. I want to let go. I want to wait.
- 40:25Speaker 2: I'm glad I'm on the plane. Man. I can't wait
- 40:27Speaker 2: to get there, be in the atmosphere and call that game.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Hey, coach, can't thank you enough, man, So happy for you,
- 40:32Speaker 3: Excited for this opportunity for you, for this football team,
- 40:36Speaker 3: and look forward to Saturday and seeing what the fighting
- 40:38Speaker 3: Tigers look like they're in Tuscaloos.
- 40:41Speaker 7: Thank you guys for having me. Appreciate it very much.
- 40:43Speaker 7: Go Tigers, baby, Internet.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Coach Frank Wilson good enough to join us here. Let's go,
- 40:49Speaker 3: let's go, Let's let's go. I want to be a
- 40:51Speaker 3: part of that fight. Yeah, you can come hang out.
- 40:54Speaker 3: You can hang on the booth with us. We're not
- 40:56Speaker 3: letting you talk, though, fight anyone in the booth.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Let you talk.
- 41:00Speaker 3: It's pretty small. It's like a phone booth fight, which is,
- 41:02Speaker 3: you know, sometimes the best one.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Can you imagine Matt on the call, Ah, what are
- 41:08Speaker 2: you doing? It's quarter quarter half? Yeah I can.
- 41:13Speaker 3: I can't imagine being electrically Yeah, it would be electric,
- 41:16Speaker 3: It certainly would be. I can't thank coach Frank enough.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Obviously crazy, crazy time for him. But I reached out
- 41:23Speaker 3: to him yesterday, Matt, and He's like, of course, yeah,
- 41:26Speaker 3: Soaid of course I'll come on. He's like the other
- 41:28Speaker 3: day when I called on y'all during y'all showtime. We're like,
- 41:31Speaker 3: we're all there, Like yeah, he goes, all right, I'll
- 41:33Speaker 3: be there. Yep, that's right. I think that's what we
- 41:35Speaker 3: do for each other. Remember the in the movie.
- 41:40Speaker 6: I hate to make this reference, but like in the
- 41:42Speaker 6: movie the Replacements, the first play of the second half
- 41:45Speaker 6: in the last game got eleven personal fails. Yeah, because
- 41:49Speaker 6: they went and picked the fight they did. Hey, there's
- 41:51Speaker 6: some penalties from aggression.
- 41:53Speaker 2: I might with him. I'm okay with it to get
- 41:56Speaker 2: let's trade in all possibly, Let's.
- 41:58Speaker 6: Trade exactly holding calls on water stream yard penalty.
- 42:04Speaker 3: Let's go set the tone, let them know. All right,
- 42:07Speaker 3: we'll take a break. More O t B when we

- 42:29Speaker 3: is they can build mine. They can build matts, a laundress,
- 42:31Speaker 3: tats does not matter. They can get it done every
- 42:34Speaker 3: single time. And look if it can be a little
- 42:36Speaker 3: bit of a Launder's dream pool mixed with mine, mixed
- 42:39Speaker 3: with matts, mixed with tates.
- 42:41Speaker 2: They can do that as well. They can do whatever
- 42:43Speaker 2: you want.

- 44:27Speaker 6: wanted a little change, listen to that interview.

- 44:34Speaker 3: juice meter to go up as you get ready for Tuscaloosa,
- 44:37Speaker 3: you ask them what we're going to see.
- 44:39Speaker 6: Quote, You're going to see a team that is willing
- 44:41Speaker 6: to fight, a team that is willing to strain. We
- 44:47Speaker 6: are going to there to fight. We are going there
- 44:49Speaker 6: to pick a fight. That's the message you want right now,
- 44:54Speaker 6: that's the message you want. After all the dirty laundry
- 44:58Speaker 6: that's been aired since Kelly's been fired, all of that,
- 45:01Speaker 6: we kind of see the writing.
- 45:02Speaker 2: On the wall of what was.
- 45:03Speaker 6: We don't need to talk about that right now. Because
- 45:05Speaker 6: we had a head coach, an interim head coach Frank Wilson.
- 45:08Speaker 6: That is setting the tone, setting the message, and everything
- 45:12Speaker 6: that we've heard coming out of that building is all
- 45:16Speaker 6: positive vibes, and everybody, you got the buy in that
- 45:18Speaker 6: you've been wanting that you should have got from your
- 45:21Speaker 6: your high dollar head coach. We are going to fight,
- 45:25Speaker 6: and you're gonna see a team that's willing to strain.
- 45:28Speaker 6: I loved the use of words right there. Absolutely, and
- 45:33Speaker 6: we can't wait to watch coach.
- 45:34Speaker 2: That sounded like Muhammed Ali.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm gonna go pick a fight and do it
- 45:39Speaker 3: the right way. He said, do it the right way.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Talk with our pads and our helmet.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Let's go. Only only one thing.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Left to do now, got my heart pumping, got a
- 45:49Speaker 3: racing more OTB when we come back.
- 45:51Speaker 2: Our number three off the bench.
