- 0:17Speaker 1: For a Turner Glory podcast, sticking Out and Roads the
- 0:21Speaker 1: Code of Free Tag. It's been a while. Thanksgivings got
- 0:27Speaker 1: in the way. We're going to one episode a week.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I didn't want to talk anyways, So well, you wanted
- 0:37Speaker 1: to talk like Friday night, but I didn't want to
- 0:41Speaker 1: talk immediately. I was fired up. Let's just say the
- 0:47Speaker 1: emotions have been boiled up. I wouldn't say they've been relieved.
- 0:54Speaker 1: So we're in for a fun one here today.
- 0:59Speaker 2: So we didn't we didn't do a preview pod of
- 1:02Speaker 2: the Isola game.
- 1:03Speaker 3: We didn't know DAK, not directly. No, we cover a
- 1:06Speaker 3: little bit that Sunday or that Monday.
- 1:09Speaker 2: But if we would have done a preview pod, I mean,
- 1:13Speaker 2: like back on now, I think that game kind of
- 1:15Speaker 2: went how we would have said it would have or
- 1:17Speaker 2: was gonna go. Not as bad, but I think we
- 1:23Speaker 2: would have said Iowa would have just ran the ball
- 1:25Speaker 2: over Nebraska.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, not as bad.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, not that bad.
- 1:34Speaker 3: But I don't think it, which is amazing because all
- 1:37Speaker 3: year DAK you predict you know, forty to thirty five
- 1:40Speaker 3: year five point games. I think this would have been
- 1:42Speaker 3: the one game you're like fifteen to seventeen Nebraska.
- 1:46Speaker 2: But what what was the over run in that game?
- 1:48Speaker 2: I never even looked, because I mean, that's got to
- 1:51Speaker 2: be well for sure the most points.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I think it was like thirty eight or thirty nine,
- 1:56Speaker 1: and I'm pretty sure it hit like yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Time and right io, what's going on themselves?
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah, So yes, the Iowa game itself is going to
- 2:10Speaker 1: be the main focus here to talk. But I think
- 2:13Speaker 1: over the next several episodes here there's gonna be a
- 2:18Speaker 1: lot to talk about, just from overall Matt rule and
- 2:25Speaker 1: then the transfer portal, which is going to be open
- 2:30Speaker 1: here for about a month through January sixteenth, and that's
- 2:36Speaker 1: it's gonna be a fun I'll call it fun, but
- 2:38Speaker 1: just a very eventful couple of months here, which is
- 2:43Speaker 1: I like. I like how the NCAA has changed that
- 2:45Speaker 1: I guess for football football it'll make it all. At
- 2:48Speaker 1: the same time, I'm kind of like a free agency
- 2:51Speaker 1: heavy period, so that's gonna be There's gonna be a
- 2:54Speaker 1: lot here football wise still from now until January sixteenth.
- 2:59Speaker 1: In addition, do a bowl game, which we'll get to,
- 3:03Speaker 1: but I want to spend a little bit of timers.
- 3:05Speaker 1: We didn't get to talk much about Iowa and just
- 3:08Speaker 1: jumping into the game itself. I know it's been a
- 3:13Speaker 1: few days removed. Now here's the first thing that just
- 3:21Speaker 1: drives me nuts, not nuts, but it's also a respecting
- 3:27Speaker 1: Kirk Farrence. Like that dude, he just gets it and
- 3:33Speaker 1: he just love beating Nebraska. Oh, chomping his gum on
- 3:38Speaker 1: the sidelines and like he just it's like I got
- 3:42Speaker 1: these guys figured out and they are so clueless, and
- 3:45Speaker 1: he just loves it so a little bit. It's like, God,
- 3:48Speaker 1: damn it, Kirk. But at the same time, like respect
- 3:52Speaker 1: it's impressive and I don't know. That's my first big
- 3:58Speaker 1: takeaway from the game is just Iowa in our ass
- 4:00Speaker 1: year after year, and yes they're our rival, but are
- 4:04Speaker 1: they doesn't arrival where we.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Have to kind of go two sides and I think
- 4:08Speaker 3: they're are rival, We're not their rival.
- 4:10Speaker 1: No, And I said that, dude, they their first rivals
- 4:14Speaker 1: Minnesota or Iowa State. We're probably third on the list,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and you might even throw Wisconsin in there. We might
- 4:20Speaker 1: even be fourth. They would be our number one right
- 4:24Speaker 1: now from who we play on our schedule, and it's sad,
- 4:27Speaker 1: but they don't even I mean, they're just like, no,
- 4:29Speaker 1: this is Nebraska. They'll go kick their ass every Black
- 4:31Speaker 1: Friday and move on.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I thought I was trying to talk about this game
- 4:38Speaker 3: hundred I don't know if.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I shouldn't say kick our ass. I kick their asses
- 4:42Speaker 1: this year in years past, like last year we won
- 4:46Speaker 1: eighty percent of the game, but Kirk Farns gets out
- 4:48Speaker 1: of there and goes that we still beat him.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I was discussing because I watched this with my in laws,
- 4:54Speaker 3: and I was just trying to frame, like, because prior
- 4:58Speaker 3: to the game, they're like, do you are you guys
- 4:59Speaker 3: going to to win? And I said, just like, I
- 5:02Speaker 3: was just trying to frame how previo years had gone,
- 5:04Speaker 3: and I was reliving last year's game of how we
- 5:07Speaker 3: lost in the seven first downs and nine completed passes,
- 5:11Speaker 3: and they're like seven first down, sing, you guys lost, yes, yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 3: And so I was like, yeah, this year, we're probably
- 5:18Speaker 3: gonna lose in a heartbreaking fashion at the end, and
- 5:22Speaker 3: that did not happen. I was the only one watching
- 5:27Speaker 3: it by the end because everyone else had fallen asleep.
- 5:29Speaker 3: So I'm just sitting there miserably with an infant on
- 5:32Speaker 3: my lap, just trying to prevent me from getting too upset.
- 5:40Speaker 3: But there while we were watching the game, I would
- 5:42Speaker 3: did something. Then my father in laws was like, why
- 5:45Speaker 3: didn't they go for it? And I was like, they
- 5:46Speaker 3: don't have This is before the game got out of control,
- 5:48Speaker 3: and I was like, they don't have to. What they
- 5:51Speaker 3: do is they just wait for us to fuck up. Yeah,
- 5:55Speaker 3: and it came.
- 6:01Speaker 2: You were talking about how Kirk Farrence is Chopman's gun
- 6:04Speaker 2: and stuff. I talked to you. I talked to you
- 6:05Speaker 2: about or talked to you about this last night. Him
- 6:10Speaker 2: and PJ. Fleck especially, they both have just figured out
- 6:13Speaker 2: exactly how to beat Nebraska and it's it's been through
- 6:15Speaker 2: multiple coaches too.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Did you guys see the stat of most Big ten
- 6:22Speaker 3: wins in Memorial Stadium? Parence is number two, No way,
- 6:28Speaker 3: number one is bo Plainy.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yeah with Nebraska coaches, yes, yes, any coach, Yeah, regardless
- 6:35Speaker 1: of he's got. Kirk Farence has more wins in Memorial
- 6:38Speaker 1: Stadium than Mike Riley, Scott Frost, and Matt Role.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I mean, you can't even call a rivalry game anymore.
- 6:44Speaker 2: They're just dominating Nebraska or could you even call a
- 6:48Speaker 2: rivalry like it's been since Nebraska in the big ten.
- 6:50Speaker 2: That's all's been.
- 6:53Speaker 1: That's what I said five minutes ago. Thank you, well,
- 6:56Speaker 1: that's good, great, great call.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Hunter going to his head, slow, mourning, too much grease.
- 7:08Speaker 1: So that was point one from the game. Point two
- 7:15Speaker 1: Emma Johnson, and it feel bad for the guy. I mean,
- 7:22Speaker 1: he had a career day right, ran for over two
- 7:26Speaker 1: hundred and thirty yards, right, and career high.
- 7:32Speaker 3: After the first half, he thought he was gonna just
- 7:35Speaker 3: absolutely run over them for us of the game and
- 7:39Speaker 3: maybe pull it out.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Can you imagine running for two hundred and thirty yards
- 7:42Speaker 1: and losing by twenty four points.
- 7:45Speaker 3: He ran for one hundred and eighty in the first half,
- 7:47Speaker 3: like come.
- 7:48Speaker 2: On, started the same way the Penn State game did.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Big runs starting You're like, oh boy, here we go,
- 7:53Speaker 2: I know, and the wheels just fall off right after that.
- 7:58Speaker 1: So that's just a general shout out for the game.
- 8:01Speaker 1: That was the positive. Next on my list. For whatever reason,
- 8:14Speaker 1: we still can't figure how to stop the run, which
- 8:16Speaker 1: we know the reason. We don't have a D line,
- 8:18Speaker 1: but we don't have a play call adjustment. I should
- 8:23Speaker 1: I shouldn't say it was all like Penn State. It
- 8:25Speaker 1: wasn't as running back heavy but then Gernowski got loose,
- 8:32Speaker 1: and that has also been a recurring theme this year
- 8:37Speaker 1: of stopping the quarterback around. Geranowski's not he's still a
- 8:41Speaker 1: big dude. He's not a he's not an efficient runner.
- 8:45Speaker 3: He's just not correct.
- 8:48Speaker 1: He can he can move a little bit. And on
- 8:53Speaker 1: the flip side, our offensive play calling, I just have
- 8:56Speaker 1: play calling written down. We can dive into throwing the
- 9:01Speaker 1: ball on second and four and I completely get. They're
- 9:07Speaker 1: a time and place for throwing the ball. Hell, look
- 9:08Speaker 1: at what Iowa did. Iowa runs the perfect play actions
- 9:12Speaker 1: at the perfect time that has guys wid open or
- 9:18Speaker 1: they run. It's a simple double move with their tight end,
- 9:21Speaker 1: which is like eighth or grade football coaching. But if
- 9:24Speaker 1: you run it at the right time with the right
- 9:26Speaker 1: player against the right person, it works. That's all Iowa does. So, yes,
- 9:31Speaker 1: it's a time and place for running, but man, we
- 9:33Speaker 1: throw the ball or for throwing it. We throw the
- 9:35Speaker 1: ball on second and four after a six start run,
- 9:37Speaker 1: And then yes, I did that just was like another
- 9:42Speaker 1: thing that just just big sigh, big disappointment.
- 9:50Speaker 3: I mean, well, the other thing I think, I mean
- 9:53Speaker 3: our special teams probably worst special teams game of the
- 9:58Speaker 3: year set the fumble, and then their's average starting field
- 10:04Speaker 3: position was like on our forty five for the first half.
- 10:08Speaker 3: It was something crazy.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Hold pause real quick there about that fumble on the return.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Why did they not review that for targeting?
- 10:20Speaker 1: Here we go blame the rest, Well, no.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I'm I'm just gonna because I was watching any other
- 10:26Speaker 2: night and I was like, and they reviewed this and
- 10:27Speaker 2: it wasn't even close to the same amount target as that,
- 10:29Speaker 2: and they threw the guy out. I was like why
- 10:31Speaker 2: and that has nothing to do at the end of
- 10:32Speaker 2: this game here.
- 10:33Speaker 1: But I didn't you know why, because we didn't We
- 10:36Speaker 1: didn't deserve it.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that's yeah, that could have been it. The rest
- 10:40Speaker 2: was like, well, this is gonna matter, but.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I mean technically by rule if you wanted to say
- 10:46Speaker 1: it by rule, sure, but I was just like, you
- 10:51Speaker 1: fumble it one, you fumble it, get bumble it first,
- 10:56Speaker 1: you get to do the playover again, and then you
- 11:00Speaker 1: fumble it. They're kind of three times and pick it
- 11:04Speaker 1: up and then you fumble it again. Yeah, I guess
- 11:08Speaker 1: the first one and he was probably down before they
- 11:11Speaker 1: redid the play for an illegal shift or whatever it was.
- 11:14Speaker 1: But you just at that point, you don't. I don't know.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I was like I didn't care. Yeah, you looked at it,
- 11:20Speaker 1: and the fans were just pissed after they saw it
- 11:22Speaker 1: on TV, and Matt Rule was pissed.
- 11:24Speaker 3: But I got it just fair. I think it's fair
- 11:27Speaker 3: for that rule to be pissed. But I agree.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I feel like we just.
- 11:32Speaker 3: That was part of the I mean, that was the
- 11:34Speaker 3: point of the game. It was like we were down eight,
- 11:36Speaker 3: we were getting the ball back, and then they got
- 11:39Speaker 3: they got the ball, they got safety there and then
- 11:44Speaker 3: they got the ball back, so that it's like that
- 11:47Speaker 3: was the that was the moment of like it's not happening, like, okay,
- 11:52Speaker 3: I got the ball down he maybe we go down
- 11:53Speaker 3: here to score. But once it happened, it's like, oh no,
- 11:56Speaker 3: this is this is over.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I saw I saw in a brassman complain t winter
- 12:00Speaker 2: in some Iowa fantry. Back to him, He's like, here
- 12:02Speaker 2: you go. Then he crossed of the forty. But all
- 12:04Speaker 2: right's thirty eight sixteen now like it did not matter.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Well, I don't know if that's a fair way to it's.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's it's different than just taking the safety off.
- 12:15Speaker 1: But that I mean that kind of led into my
- 12:22Speaker 1: last note on the game itself. You're and this is
- 12:27Speaker 1: gonna lead into a lot of other conversation here. We
- 12:30Speaker 1: have our players, right, call them our our dudes, that
- 12:33Speaker 1: are our players on this year's team who we thought
- 12:36Speaker 1: were ja Cory Varney was one of them going into
- 12:40Speaker 1: the year. That happens, you know, it just can't happen.
- 12:44Speaker 1: It can't happen in a game. You can't have your
- 12:46Speaker 1: your better players making a play like that. See her right,
- 12:50Speaker 1: was one of the guys on defense that we would
- 12:52Speaker 1: say is a leader an anchor on this defense. On
- 12:58Speaker 1: Gernowski's long he has an open one on one tackle
- 13:03Speaker 1: in the backfield and just overruns it and with and
- 13:08Speaker 1: like again, who who are players right like that? That's
- 13:12Speaker 1: that's the question. If we're supposed to have players, who
- 13:14Speaker 1: are they? And if those are the guys like your
- 13:18Speaker 1: your players can't be messing up like that. And that
- 13:23Speaker 1: to that again opens up a whole other conversation on
- 13:28Speaker 1: where we're at with the current roster and where the
- 13:32Speaker 1: roster is going to be moving forward. But that was
- 13:34Speaker 1: just a that's a big thing in games against teams
- 13:37Speaker 1: like Iowa. Why does Iowa doesn't, Well, tell me who
- 13:43Speaker 1: Iowa's players are. They just have a bunch of white
- 13:45Speaker 1: receivers and kick returners and who cares who plays quarterback
- 13:50Speaker 1: for him? And who cares who plays running back for like.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Those guys. Another year we lost with the team completely
- 13:59Speaker 3: lesson tempered asses.
- 14:00Speaker 1: So so anyways, that that is the point I wanted
- 14:05Speaker 1: to make here because a lot of the talk in
- 14:07Speaker 1: the off season every year is on the recruits and
- 14:11Speaker 1: the portal, and it still will be who are these players?
- 14:15Speaker 1: Who are these guys?
- 14:16Speaker 2: Right?
- 14:16Speaker 3: Or?
- 14:17Speaker 1: Look at our this year was receivers, right, we were?
- 14:21Speaker 3: I was, I was a non factor.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Isaiah Hunter, I mean, all of our receivers for that matter,
- 14:30Speaker 1: didn't do anything that I mean, what was our what
- 14:32Speaker 1: was our highest receiving yards guy this year?
- 14:36Speaker 2: Right?
- 14:37Speaker 3: Well, it probably an Isaiah Hunter and then maybe Evan Johnson.
- 14:41Speaker 2: I was gonna say that, but those guys, I wouldn't say.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Those guys can't do anything. Isaiah did probably better than
- 14:46Speaker 2: what I thought.
- 14:47Speaker 3: You didn't do a lot.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Maybe he did in the year he didn't do much,
- 14:51Speaker 2: but did But yeah.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I'm talking. I mean again, I'm taking those two garbage
- 14:55Speaker 1: games out. Well, I mean, what what were our stats
- 14:59Speaker 1: for receiving hers. Did we have a guy get to
- 15:01Speaker 1: five hundred?
- 15:03Speaker 3: Oh boy, yes, Isaiah got to six seventeen.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Okay, so we got someone at six seventeen. But it's
- 15:10Speaker 1: to me those were our got our players right. And
- 15:13Speaker 1: then on the defensive side, I guess that it was
- 15:16Speaker 1: the transfers coming in. I don't know, like again, those
- 15:19Speaker 1: guys didn't solid I don't know like it. It just
- 15:23Speaker 1: it just to me if we have so now the
- 15:26Speaker 1: conversation with everybody, Oh, we don't have the players. We
- 15:28Speaker 1: gotta get players, which I agree, but I don't want
- 15:31Speaker 1: to hear in the offseason about these players that we're getting.
- 15:34Speaker 1: And I messed up because I got I got on
- 15:37Speaker 1: the Dankey hype train.
- 15:38Speaker 3: I was.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I was. I was pumped there too. Like Dylan Royola again,
- 15:44Speaker 1: was was what he was this year before he got hurt.
- 15:48Speaker 1: He wasn't exceptional, he wasn't poor. TJ Latif was not
- 15:55Speaker 1: what he was. So like whoever these quote unquote players are,
- 15:59Speaker 1: which we have some hype already around, I'll say Trey
- 16:03Speaker 1: Taylor like great. I don't care right now until we
- 16:09Speaker 1: get offensive line, defensive line, which we'll get to here
- 16:13Speaker 1: in a second, So anymore on Iowa specifically. That was
- 16:19Speaker 1: probably longer than I wanted to talk about it.
- 16:24Speaker 3: The only other thing this definitely put to bed the
- 16:30Speaker 3: TJ Latif starter next year. I was just gonna like,
- 16:34Speaker 3: I mean, it's not that it's not a conversation, but
- 16:36Speaker 3: it put to bed the he's clearly the number one.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Dylan's like, yeah, it's still team if he wants.
- 16:47Speaker 2: It, Like, yeah, yep, yes, that's that's a big if. Yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 2: And I'm I'm close to when he's all on the
- 16:56Speaker 2: teeth of that game. But he was horrible that that was.
- 16:59Speaker 3: There, the drop passes, but what I don't understand, And
- 17:03Speaker 3: again maybe he can't run.
- 17:07Speaker 1: We didn't do design again for the second game in
- 17:11Speaker 1: a row.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Like he was hurt, he got hurt in the second
- 17:14Speaker 3: half or at the end of the first half. He
- 17:17Speaker 3: the first half, he still wasn't running it. He try
- 17:19Speaker 3: to run it one.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Time, yes, yeah, which which makes you wonder if he
- 17:22Speaker 2: was a little hurt before, like in days weren't saying it,
- 17:24Speaker 2: you know, and were running it, or if they just
- 17:27Speaker 2: are that dumb and like I don't.
- 17:29Speaker 3: I just haven't seen it. I just I haven't seen
- 17:32Speaker 3: like that. I know everyone says he can run, I
- 17:34Speaker 3: just haven't seen like that speed.
- 17:35Speaker 1: And like, no, I I agree, he's not. He's not
- 17:39Speaker 1: the the running quarterbacks that. He's not Taylor Martinez, he's
- 17:43Speaker 1: not Jamal Lord, he's not.
- 17:46Speaker 3: I feel like Adrian, like you could just when they
- 17:48Speaker 3: started running, it's like, oh, this dude can like move.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I mean, he definitely has not shown that.
- 17:53Speaker 1: And I don't think the play calling is letting him,
- 17:55Speaker 1: which maybe the play calling shouldn't letting himcause he can't.
- 17:57Speaker 1: We don't know that. I think everybody thought that maybe
- 18:00Speaker 1: he could, but maybe he can't. So then then then
- 18:03Speaker 1: then that goes back to the player conversational. Then maybe
- 18:05Speaker 1: he's just not very good. And and we hyped up
- 18:09Speaker 1: this guy for for what.
- 18:12Speaker 3: That great fourth quarter Week two against Houston Christian.
- 18:20Speaker 1: That was it right there at that in a little
- 18:23Speaker 1: bit of the spring game that that we got to see.
- 18:26Speaker 2: You're You're just a Keith hater off, aren't you.
- 18:28Speaker 3: I am not a hater. I wanted to win that game.
- 18:31Speaker 3: I wanted Teacher to do well. But you were the
- 18:34Speaker 3: one who announced him by far better than Dylan real.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Like I mean, yet have yet to see you take
- 18:43Speaker 1: your word back on that.
- 18:46Speaker 2: I yeah, this last week, this was it.
- 18:51Speaker 3: I know it was. It was like, as we're getting
- 18:53Speaker 3: thumped by Penn's state, Yeah he's by far better. I
- 18:57Speaker 3: was like, I don't know, man, we're down forty.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. If't fully take it back at it.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Steel as a freshman, two games on the road, yeah.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Well, two games on the road, one game where.
- 19:09Speaker 2: He looked okay, okay, yeah, three okay's two games on
- 19:13Speaker 2: the round, one at home.
- 19:14Speaker 4: But my god, that that running part when he does run,
- 19:18Speaker 4: he looks it looks like Denrella saying he can run
- 19:22Speaker 4: like same speed everything, Like he just doesn't move well.
- 19:25Speaker 3: I don't it's better than La.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but.
- 19:32Speaker 3: I just don't see it like I'm not like it's
- 19:34Speaker 3: not like, oh, this dude's like a dual threat. It's like,
- 19:36Speaker 3: I don't know, he moves well on the outside of
- 19:39Speaker 3: the pocket, but it doesn't have like that like when
- 19:42Speaker 3: he makes the decision, it's not like, oh, this dude's gone.
- 19:45Speaker 3: It's like, oh wait, he's kind of just galloping.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Yeah. But compared to Riolo, he's definitely do with that.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Like what do you if you've any quarterback and.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Might be a zero threat at this point. I'm not
- 19:57Speaker 3: worried about his passing. I'm not worried about his running.
- 20:00Speaker 1: What I what I don't know is our system, philosophy, style,
- 20:08Speaker 1: whatever that is, Like it doesn't it's not conducive. Now,
- 20:13Speaker 1: it doesn't have to add a bunch of quarterback runs.
- 20:16Speaker 1: But I do think that. Just listen to Rule talk
- 20:19Speaker 1: about quarterback run game and and and Dana, like they
- 20:22Speaker 1: made some common about TJ getting down and yes, it's
- 20:26Speaker 1: I get it, Like if you're you run your quarterback,
- 20:28Speaker 1: you don't want him just taking a bunch of shots.
- 20:30Speaker 1: But I think our play calling is because and even
- 20:33Speaker 1: with Dylan, we're scared to roll him out. We're scared
- 20:36Speaker 1: to give him freedom to run because we're afraid he's
- 20:38Speaker 1: gonna get popped and hurt. And I just totally disagree
- 20:42Speaker 1: with I'm not I would not go out and tell
- 20:44Speaker 1: him to go take a bunch of shots, but you
- 20:46Speaker 1: can move. I think we just get a little scared
- 20:50Speaker 1: play calling wise, because we're afraid of them getting hurt.
- 20:54Speaker 3: I don't want TJ TEF to go in, but.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and I guess after TJ, then you ever
- 21:00Speaker 1: else is left so what what puts me? That's a
- 21:03Speaker 1: losing mentality. If if you're if you're playing, if you're
- 21:06Speaker 1: coming in, then.
- 21:07Speaker 3: I'm with you. I'm with you.
- 21:09Speaker 1: So okay, season, let's look at that big thing here.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Uh seven and five another win total under, which now
- 21:19Speaker 1: makes it.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Most I don't know.
- 21:22Speaker 1: We hit the under every year since twenty sixteen.
- 21:27Speaker 3: It's amazing that Las Vegas hasn't figured it out yet.
- 21:30Speaker 2: It really is happy to make a ball game.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I wouldn't I wouldn't know.
- 21:34Speaker 3: I am. I wouldn't say I'm just happy to make
- 21:35Speaker 3: a ball game, but I am happy we at least
- 21:37Speaker 3: made a bull game.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I wouldn't say it's Vegas setting the line there. I
- 21:40Speaker 1: would say.
- 21:40Speaker 3: It's better's moving it there.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Nebraska betters betting the over, so Vegas says that suckers.
- 21:47Speaker 1: We're going to keep raising it and you guys are
- 21:49Speaker 1: still gonna lose your money. I would say it's a
- 21:52Speaker 1: big part of it. But at the same time, it's
- 21:55Speaker 1: it's it's a way of measuring expectations a little bit
- 21:58Speaker 1: in my mind and underachieving those expectations that are set
- 22:04Speaker 1: by a national audience. And we hit the unders again
- 22:08Speaker 1: and you're right, you have. We made a ballgame. And
- 22:11Speaker 1: this word that gets thrown around with any team, with
- 22:16Speaker 1: any coach is progress, and you can define progress how
- 22:22Speaker 1: you want it to be. I just want to look
- 22:27Speaker 1: at our schedule this year, and I know we got
- 22:28Speaker 1: into this a few weeks ago on how difficult the
- 22:32Speaker 1: schedule was and how it's hard to judge what a
- 22:34Speaker 1: schedule looks like you're in and year out. But this
- 22:38Speaker 1: schedule and the opportunity to have a successful season that whatever,
- 22:46Speaker 1: that looks like a nine to three playoff type of
- 22:48Speaker 1: team that people thought was there for the taking. And
- 22:53Speaker 1: you look at our best win, it probably ends up
- 22:56Speaker 1: being Cincinnati to start the year, which Cincinnati was about.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I mean, they probably maybe were a little better people thought,
- 23:02Speaker 1: but for a while there they it looked pretty decent.
- 23:04Speaker 1: They kind of fell off end of the year. You
- 23:06Speaker 1: beat a Michigan State team, you beat a Northwestern team, which,
- 23:10Speaker 1: if you want to call progress, we sometimes don't win
- 23:13Speaker 1: those games, which we did this year so in last year,
- 23:16Speaker 1: which is good, but you get a banged up Michigan
- 23:19Speaker 1: or a banged up I should say banged up but
- 23:24Speaker 1: no coach Michigan team. You get a banged up Penn
- 23:27Speaker 1: state team in the state that they're in, Iowa's Iowa
- 23:32Speaker 1: USCS for decent UCLA ended up being just garbage. They
- 23:41Speaker 1: maybe had a little life there for a little bit,
- 23:43Speaker 1: but looking back on it now after the season's over,
- 23:46Speaker 1: I think that you can call them garbage. So you
- 23:52Speaker 1: win seven game to that, I don't know if you
- 23:53Speaker 1: want to combine our opposing teams wins, but it's not
- 23:58Speaker 1: very many or win loss record, and it just it
- 24:02Speaker 1: just to me, it's just a it's a missed opportunity
- 24:04Speaker 1: of a season. If you're Matt Rule, if you're this
- 24:06Speaker 1: coaching staff, you're Anabraska football fans, you just feel like
- 24:08Speaker 1: it's a missed opportunity to have a big, big step
- 24:11Speaker 1: forward and it wasn't there. That that's my takeaway when
- 24:16Speaker 1: when you look at it, and especially then you wins
- 24:21Speaker 1: or wins, losses or losses, you get destroyed your last
- 24:26Speaker 1: two games to end the year by two of your
- 24:29Speaker 1: better opponents in your schedule. But at the same time,
- 24:32Speaker 1: opportunities they didn't have to be blowouts than they were.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Right, it's not that we're seven to five, it's that
- 24:38Speaker 3: we lost to ranked mission. You know, top twenty five.
- 24:42Speaker 3: I'm not gonna then, you know, I say ranked, we
- 24:45Speaker 3: like to rank Michigan, ranked USC, and then Penn State night.
- 24:52Speaker 3: So we lost to all the good teams on our schedule.
- 24:54Speaker 1: And get blown out by Minnesota, and then Minnesota is
- 24:57Speaker 1: in there. But it also is the games that we
- 25:01Speaker 1: lost to our good teams. It wasn't in USC. Michigan
- 25:06Speaker 1: were kind of we got.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Michigan were Michigan. The score looks better than it was
- 25:10Speaker 3: because it's just because we scored like a touchdown with
- 25:13Speaker 3: a minute left we were down whatever it was, or
- 25:17Speaker 3: ten with two minutes ago like it was. It was
- 25:20Speaker 3: never within reach.
- 25:22Speaker 1: When I say embarrassed, I don't mean I mean score
- 25:25Speaker 1: wise on a few of those games, but physically and
- 25:30Speaker 1: from a toughness standpoint, embarrassed in Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State, Iowa.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Like that's how we lost those games, and that's football, Like,
- 25:40Speaker 1: that's what football cover is down do a lot, and
- 25:44Speaker 1: in those games it was just clearly man for man,
- 25:49Speaker 1: we didn't have the players and we just physically and
- 25:52Speaker 1: mentally got the shit ticked out of us in those
- 25:56Speaker 1: in those losses. So that's where you look at the
- 25:58Speaker 1: season and you go God like you would hope you'd
- 26:02Speaker 1: be a little bit further. When you throw that word
- 26:04Speaker 1: progress around, that's a big nick. On the negative side, Yeah.
- 26:13Speaker 3: I've been trying to rip my head around have a
- 26:15Speaker 3: kill about the season. Obviously, I'm disappointed. I thought we
- 26:18Speaker 3: were I mean, I thought we were gonna win eight
- 26:20Speaker 3: games this year. Ship. Yeah, you run through schedules like, well,
- 26:24Speaker 3: we should have. The Minnesota loss is the one that
- 26:28Speaker 3: you just can't stomach. It's just like, I mean, obviously
- 26:31Speaker 3: the blow out to Iowa is a killer. But when
- 26:33Speaker 3: you go back and you look at your losses, like, yeah, okay,
- 26:36Speaker 3: I expect us to lose a Michigan, I expect us
- 26:38Speaker 3: to lose you see, Penn State. The Iowa game was
- 26:40Speaker 3: always a toss up, But that Minnesota loss is the
- 26:42Speaker 3: one where it's just that was kind of where it's like,
- 26:44Speaker 3: this year is not the year. It's just not this
- 26:47Speaker 3: progress isn't. You can't drop that game when Dilanerill is
- 26:51Speaker 3: still healthy.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right. Another good way of looking at it
- 26:56Speaker 1: go back to the beginning of the season, show us
- 26:59Speaker 1: the score for all the games and try to level
- 27:02Speaker 1: set where your head was at on all these teams
- 27:06Speaker 1: going into the year. The Minnesota game you would have
- 27:08Speaker 1: been like, what the hell is that? The Iowa game
- 27:10Speaker 1: you would have been like, what the hell is At
- 27:13Speaker 1: the rest of them, you would go, Okay, that probably
- 27:17Speaker 1: kind of makes sense. Yeah, But the problem was we
- 27:21Speaker 1: don't have any on the other side that you would go, wow,
- 27:26Speaker 1: I didn't expect that.
- 27:28Speaker 3: Correct.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Which games would you do that on? There aren't Actually,
- 27:33Speaker 1: there's probably one. The Accron game you'd go, holy crap,
- 27:36Speaker 1: we scored seventy, right, that would be the one that
- 27:40Speaker 1: you maybe would on the other side. On the positive
- 27:42Speaker 1: side look at it and go I didn't expect this
- 27:44Speaker 1: to do that, But there are two two what the
- 27:48Speaker 1: hell negative is? But know what the hell positives? I
- 27:51Speaker 1: guess when you go back to the beginning of the year,
- 27:52Speaker 1: if you want to look at it with the closed
- 27:55Speaker 1: glass door now, so that's probably, yeah, a good way
- 28:00Speaker 1: of looking at it, I would.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Say, I guess, yeah. The overall pinions on the season,
- 28:10Speaker 3: you know, I obviously Dan reel Will getting hurt I
- 28:15Speaker 3: do think impacted us a little bit, not enough, but
- 28:20Speaker 3: obviously Matt rules side as well. But the defense just
- 28:24Speaker 3: was the defense was the weak link. All year in
- 28:28Speaker 3: offense obviously like terrible towards the end of the year,
- 28:31Speaker 3: but for the most part, outside of the Minnesota game, again,
- 28:36Speaker 3: we scored enough points to be competitive with Dylan Reel
- 28:41Speaker 3: being healthy. So John Butler obviously, well, I'm okay, are
- 28:50Speaker 3: we talking? We're gonna talk about John Butler? Where we are?
- 28:51Speaker 3: What are we gonna talk about?
- 28:52Speaker 1: We will we will get the John Dak I want
- 28:54Speaker 1: to hear your season that here.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I mean, I think I personally feel a lot worse.
- 29:10Speaker 2: So this is our end of season recap, pod. I
- 29:12Speaker 2: feel a lot worse talking about this season. No, I'm
- 29:15Speaker 2: saying last year the same same exact thing. Okay, last
- 29:18Speaker 2: year's I feel a lot better last coming out of
- 29:22Speaker 2: the last year's team, I do this year's team by mile,
- 29:25Speaker 2: like I don't see any progress at all.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Like.
- 29:37Speaker 1: You need to go get some coffee and get this
- 29:39Speaker 1: brain moving a little bit.
- 29:40Speaker 2: I think I think that's what you need. Well, the
- 29:42Speaker 2: defense defense improved one bit, and I don't think the
- 29:45Speaker 2: offense did either, like at all. And it's I think
- 29:51Speaker 2: the only positive takeaway you can take away from the season,
- 29:55Speaker 2: and this is this is a big positive. Is a
- 29:57Speaker 2: special teams got a lot better in one. I feel
- 30:00Speaker 2: like three or four games. That's that's the only way
- 30:02Speaker 2: they really got least seven wins. I would say other
- 30:05Speaker 2: than that, I don't see any improvement at all on
- 30:09Speaker 2: either side of the ball.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Yeah, when you're talking progress in that word that we
- 30:14Speaker 1: throw out there, here's two areas where we get progress
- 30:16Speaker 1: in special teams and I'll call it ball security, penalties,
- 30:22Speaker 1: whatever you want to throw in that bucket. Those are
- 30:26Speaker 1: two areas that we saw progress, and I don't think
- 30:30Speaker 1: you can really argue that. Yeah, now, special teams would
- 30:34Speaker 1: have been very hard not to see progress, I will
- 30:36Speaker 1: say that, but it was drastically improved under Mike Eckler,
- 30:41Speaker 1: and it really helped our team. You wouldn't look at
- 30:45Speaker 1: offensive defense the other two thirds of the game defense
- 30:52Speaker 1: arrow drending.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Down offense, which huge rule expective. With Tony White leaving
- 31:00Speaker 2: and all the players too, we dedn't expect even to
- 31:02Speaker 2: be a little worse, but.
- 31:03Speaker 3: We expected to step back.
- 31:04Speaker 2: But yeah, not like this.
- 31:06Speaker 1: I shouldn't even say error turning down. I should say
- 31:08Speaker 1: arrow down offense. You're right neutral at best, Like I.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Don't say, I don't. I don't feel like we got
- 31:15Speaker 3: worse on offense. I don't think so.
- 31:20Speaker 1: As you could. You could, you could argue wherever you
- 31:23Speaker 1: want to say. But so to that point, then you
- 31:26Speaker 1: look at the three areas of the game. Yes, special
- 31:30Speaker 1: teams we've said it's a big part and up to
- 31:32Speaker 1: a third of the game. I get it. So does
- 31:34Speaker 1: that offset everything else? I don't know. Like that's where
- 31:37Speaker 1: progress to me is is.
- 31:40Speaker 3: And where is that We've brought in a We've brought
- 31:43Speaker 3: in just a banging special teams coordinator.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Yep, And that's good. Like that's credit to rule and
- 31:52Speaker 1: being able to do that and all of that. So
- 31:55Speaker 1: here's where this transitions us into Matt rule. Specifically, here
- 32:01Speaker 1: in year three should we be debating and why? Why
- 32:04Speaker 1: are why are we sitting here questioning progress after year three?
- 32:08Speaker 1: That's that's the part of me that's I'm just it's
- 32:13Speaker 1: not good for the program. We're sitting here in year
- 32:15Speaker 1: three under a coach that's supposed to be a program builder, rebuilder,
- 32:19Speaker 1: that's his strength, right, and we're sitting here talking about
- 32:26Speaker 1: are we seeing progress with him? And that to me
- 32:29Speaker 1: is like take a step back and look at it
- 32:31Speaker 1: from a thousand foot lens. That's that's bread flag and
- 32:35Speaker 1: that's not good for the direction of the program, Austin said,
- 32:38Speaker 1: right for the game, He's like not good in the
- 32:40Speaker 1: brass football future is like.
- 32:43Speaker 2: That.
- 32:44Speaker 1: That that right there in itself. It's it's we're debating
- 32:48Speaker 1: is there progress after three years of Matt rule? And
- 32:53Speaker 1: that's concerning to me, like.
- 32:57Speaker 3: The expectations progress from year zero to year three, But
- 33:01Speaker 3: there was a lot of progress from your two to three.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Correct and with Matt Ruhle coming in, which I believe
- 33:13Speaker 1: before we hired him, right the coach you won here
- 33:18Speaker 1: had a big task to take over the Scott Frost
- 33:22Speaker 1: debacle where we were at. Matt Ruhle then came in
- 33:27Speaker 1: with this three year game plan that he's had at
- 33:33Speaker 1: other schools, and this was year three. It didn't pop
- 33:37Speaker 1: as much as it did at Temple and Baylor. While
- 33:42Speaker 1: we've had him here, it's been a roller coaster. As
- 33:48Speaker 1: we think about it, it's there's been some moments where
- 33:53Speaker 1: you're really excited about the future and rascut football with him,
- 33:56Speaker 1: and he's bringing in players and talent and people around
- 34:00Speaker 1: him and and throwing that talent word out loosely. Everyone
- 34:05Speaker 1: gets excited about him that's when Nebraska fans do. That's great.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Matt Rule is a great talker to the media. He's
- 34:11Speaker 1: a great salesman. He's always been that way, and that
- 34:14Speaker 1: is great for a program like Nebraska because you need
- 34:16Speaker 1: to do that to keep the hype up to get
- 34:20Speaker 1: recruits here all of that, especially in today's transfer portal world.
- 34:24Speaker 1: But here we are in year three. After year three,
- 34:29Speaker 1: we just completely skipped over the bowl game piece. But
- 34:33Speaker 1: we're not done with year three. They're still a bowl game.
- 34:35Speaker 1: But some people will actually kind of put the ball
- 34:37Speaker 1: game as like its own season.
- 34:39Speaker 3: It's yeah, point is what are what are?
- 34:46Speaker 1: What are we selling? Right now? If you're Matt Rule
- 34:48Speaker 1: and you're going out, two things you gotta sell. You
- 34:51Speaker 1: gotta sell a couple of areas. One, you got to
- 34:53Speaker 1: sell your entire program, vision, philosophy, to boosters, your a D.
- 34:58Speaker 1: People making the decisions and house on Nebraska football. I
- 35:02Speaker 1: mean the fans kind of I guess throwing there too.
- 35:06Speaker 1: You gotta sell the fans, I guess, But the main
- 35:09Speaker 1: people making the decisions you gotta sell. You gotta sell
- 35:11Speaker 1: what you're doing. You have you have to have a plan.
- 35:14Speaker 1: It's be confident in that plan, and that was kind
- 35:17Speaker 1: of what Rule said after Iowa that he is still
- 35:20Speaker 1: confident in his vision, his goal blah blah blah. The
- 35:22Speaker 1: second part is you've got to be able to sell
- 35:24Speaker 1: all of that to high school and college kids in
- 35:28Speaker 1: recruiting in the portal to get them to come and
- 35:31Speaker 1: help you win games. Right now, Matt Rule A, you're
- 35:36Speaker 1: good at it, but what in the hell are you selling?
- 35:40Speaker 2: What?
- 35:41Speaker 1: What?
- 35:41Speaker 2: What?
- 35:41Speaker 1: What are you giving to the what are you providing
- 35:44Speaker 1: after this last couple of games to say, come to
- 35:47Speaker 1: Nebraska and here's what you're going to get in Nebraska
- 35:52Speaker 1: versus all these kids going to and we're talking about talent,
- 35:55Speaker 1: we're talking about competing with Iowa love teams and above
- 36:01Speaker 1: like not not your Northwestern's, not your Iowa states. We're
- 36:07Speaker 1: talking Michigan, Ohio States, Alabama's, Georgia's, Wisconsin's usc is to
- 36:14Speaker 1: take that next step. We're talking those places. What are
- 36:18Speaker 1: you selling to them to come to Nebraska. It's hard
- 36:21Speaker 1: right now, but that's what Matt Rules really good at.
- 36:27Speaker 1: That's to me where we're at with Rule, and I
- 36:30Speaker 1: don't That's why I'm scared. I don't know. I don't
- 36:33Speaker 1: know how you sell this team this program right now,
- 36:36Speaker 1: with what just.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Happened, I've been thinking about Matt rules place and the
- 36:50Speaker 3: impact of a head coach because I was I've been thinking,
- 36:55Speaker 3: can you I guess maybe what's your guys opinion? Can
- 36:59Speaker 3: you win where you're head coach? He's just he's the salesman.
- 37:04Speaker 3: This is like when you promote your you know again,
- 37:07Speaker 3: we're talking about roles in a CEO role. This is
- 37:10Speaker 3: like a company that like, Hey, our top salesman is
- 37:12Speaker 3: our guy, and we're shifting from a customer focus to
- 37:15Speaker 3: a sales focused and can it work where he is selling?
- 37:22Speaker 3: But you have really good coordinators that execute. I think
- 37:27Speaker 3: it can, mh. But you have to nail those hires,
- 37:32Speaker 3: and he hasn't. I mean, you know, you look at
- 37:37Speaker 3: the offense. We've we still have our previous awesome offensive
- 37:41Speaker 3: coordinator on staff, but we have a new offensive coordinator.
- 37:44Speaker 3: We have We've had two offensive coordinators in three years.
- 37:46Speaker 3: We'll have you know, we've had two defensive coordinators in
- 37:50Speaker 3: three years. We'll have another one next year. So I mean,
- 37:53Speaker 3: I think he knows that we've had two off we've
- 37:56Speaker 3: had two special teams coordinators, So I mean he i
- 37:58Speaker 3: think he recognizes that, but I haven't yet seen that
- 38:03Speaker 3: he can do it. So I think is a I
- 38:05Speaker 3: think his approach can work. I just don't know if
- 38:08Speaker 3: it can work. It's just not working. I don't That's
- 38:12Speaker 3: what I'm confused, because it's like I think it can work,
- 38:15Speaker 3: it's not working. I think he's doing what he needs
- 38:17Speaker 3: to do to make it work, but I haven't seen
- 38:20Speaker 3: the the you know, the Mike Eckler thing is like
- 38:23Speaker 3: the one positives like, okay, saw, like our special teams
- 38:25Speaker 3: is abysmal. I'm going to go get the best special
- 38:27Speaker 3: teams coach that I can.
- 38:30Speaker 1: And while that's a positive, Mike Eckler has ties in
- 38:33Speaker 1: Nebraska too, so it's like correct.
- 38:34Speaker 3: So it was already kind of there. It's like, you know,
- 38:37Speaker 3: like there was like that's what that's yes, I saw.
- 38:41Speaker 3: I'm torn. I think the approach can work, and I
- 38:43Speaker 3: honestly think it's a good approach, but.
- 38:46Speaker 1: You have to be good at just I love your
- 38:49Speaker 1: business analogy and maybe that doesn't hit with some of
- 38:52Speaker 1: the listeners. DA's probably head spinning right now. But you
- 38:56Speaker 1: hire a marketing guy, you hire the salesman as your CEO,
- 39:00Speaker 1: right you while your that's your strength and you're really
- 39:03Speaker 1: really good at it. If you don't surround yourself with
- 39:05Speaker 1: the right people to fill in your weak areas, your
- 39:09Speaker 1: weak spots, then you're in trouble. And I think that's
- 39:14Speaker 1: what you're kind of saying, is I don't we don't.
- 39:16Speaker 3: That's when the operations fall apart.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Yeah, you're questioning right now, the operations right now. On
- 39:22Speaker 1: one there's I think there's two pieces of it. Your
- 39:24Speaker 1: your your boarder, director's room, your your coordinators, your coaches,
- 39:29Speaker 1: but then your next level employees who are your players
- 39:32Speaker 1: that also has not been excellent. You've hit on a
- 39:36Speaker 1: on a high five star Dylan Royola, but you start
- 39:39Speaker 1: with the Jeff Simms who was abysmal, and you're you're
- 39:44Speaker 1: what what to me? Then, going back to this business analogy,
- 39:48Speaker 1: you are juggling your philosophy, your your company culture, your
- 39:53Speaker 1: your company structure, how you're operating. All that's been is
- 39:57Speaker 1: is you're you're trying to morphit in your three years
- 40:00Speaker 1: that you've been to the CEO, and you don't really
- 40:02Speaker 1: know exactly what you're what you're moving towards because you
- 40:07Speaker 1: have so many moving parts with your CFO, with your
- 40:10Speaker 1: offensive coordinator. With your defense, you have so many moving
- 40:13Speaker 1: parts constantly, so it's hard to consistently define. Here's what
- 40:17Speaker 1: I believe in. As this salesman, But if you're a salesman,
- 40:21Speaker 1: you sometimes don't even know what you want because you
- 40:22Speaker 1: are just a salesman. That's all you know. So you
- 40:25Speaker 1: you don't you don't know what you don't know. That
- 40:28Speaker 1: to me is where I don't know that Matt Rule
- 40:30Speaker 1: is a great football coach. Like as far as coaching football, which,
- 40:36Speaker 1: like you said, Austin, doesn't have to be necessarily and
- 40:39Speaker 1: in a perfect world, but you saw what happened to
- 40:42Speaker 1: Carolina where you're not doing as much selling, you're more coaching,
- 40:45Speaker 1: because that's that's the NFL. So we'll throw that out
- 40:49Speaker 1: of there if you want. But look at some of
- 40:51Speaker 1: his end game time management stuff, short yardage stuff, which
- 40:57Speaker 1: Matt Rule might say, that's not me, that's that's my
- 40:59Speaker 1: coach is which it might be. But as far as
- 41:02Speaker 1: in game coaching stuff and adjustments, DAK mentions, adjustments a lot,
- 41:06Speaker 1: we don't do those well, like.
- 41:09Speaker 3: That when we take that time out against Iowa just
- 41:12Speaker 3: to kick the field goal when we were down on
- 41:15Speaker 3: the seven yard line, yeah, run down. I was like
- 41:19Speaker 3: what that? Like, what are we doing? Like there is
- 41:23Speaker 3: no reason, Like I couldn't. I could not wrap my
- 41:27Speaker 3: head around, like why on earth we went out there
- 41:31Speaker 3: with and just let the cock run out just to
- 41:34Speaker 3: do it?
- 41:34Speaker 1: Was like the decision making was so slow that we
- 41:37Speaker 1: kind of ran out there but then didn't like yeah,
- 41:39Speaker 1: just stuff like that as an example of that doesn't
- 41:42Speaker 1: make sense. Why why would you not have a system,
- 41:46Speaker 1: a decision making process that's sharp and quick and not
- 41:50Speaker 1: not burn a time out there. So to that point
- 41:54Speaker 1: of Matt rule, what's he good at? We hit what
- 41:58Speaker 1: he's good at. But when you're a salesman and you
- 42:02Speaker 1: don't have anything to sell, things can fail pretty quickly
- 42:08Speaker 1: when your product is poor. And that is why I
- 42:15Speaker 1: am very very very very very very low on this.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Working with Matt Ruhle. Right now, there's a little The
- 42:24Speaker 1: little hope here is that the portal doesn't close till
- 42:27Speaker 1: January sixteenth, and if we set our found if he
- 42:31Speaker 1: resets his foundation to offensive lineman and defensive lineman, and
- 42:36Speaker 1: we go out and get some guys in the portal, and.
- 42:39Speaker 3: We hired just an absolute bang a name at DC
- 42:43Speaker 3: well and maybe I we still haven't talked about that.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Yet, but someone wants yeah, we'll talk about that.
- 42:49Speaker 1: That gets us up. Gives me a little bit of
- 42:51Speaker 1: hope to where maybe this still could work. But right
- 42:53Speaker 1: now I am like, you have.
- 42:55Speaker 3: To go out and win the bowl game. Though, you
- 42:57Speaker 3: go out and you lay an a at the bowl game.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that's also Yeah, that's that's also included. I guess
- 43:03Speaker 1: in this next month and a half, right, what what
- 43:06Speaker 1: kind of because this is Matt rule, what are you
- 43:08Speaker 1: selling right now to your current locker room guys for
- 43:11Speaker 1: this bowl game?
- 43:12Speaker 2: Yeah at all?
- 43:15Speaker 1: Like clearly, I don't think they were pumped up once
- 43:18Speaker 1: Iowa game started going south. It just looked like the
- 43:21Speaker 1: wheels fell off again, just like Penn State games. So
- 43:24Speaker 1: like the players right now to me, are you they
- 43:27Speaker 1: start questioning the CEO, salesman guy everyone once everybody starts
- 43:32Speaker 1: doing that, and that's all you're good at. What's left?
- 43:37Speaker 1: There's a little bit of hope with me. Again, I'm
- 43:40Speaker 1: not I'm not saying fire him right now, but if
- 43:42Speaker 1: if nothing happens over the next if we get beating
- 43:46Speaker 1: our bowl game and it doesn't look pretty and there's
- 43:48Speaker 1: no motivation, and then come January sixteenth, and we had
- 43:54Speaker 1: not gotten any linemen and all we're talking about is
- 43:56Speaker 1: receivers and defensive backs and all that. Like, I'm sorry,
- 44:01Speaker 1: we're wasting a year next year because next year we
- 44:05Speaker 1: won't go into the schedule. It's tougher than it is
- 44:07Speaker 1: this year. It's not gonna be as opportune. We're gonna
- 44:09Speaker 1: be wasting a year and or multiple years on Matt
- 44:13Speaker 1: Rule here when we could be getting a head start
- 44:15Speaker 1: on somebody else. That's where my head's on Matt Rule.
- 44:17Speaker 1: I get it. Just it is a little bit of
- 44:19Speaker 1: hope holding on. But you got about a month and
- 44:23Speaker 1: a half to show, to sell what it is, and
- 44:25Speaker 1: it's gonna be hard because there's not much right now.
- 44:29Speaker 3: And you know, Troy Dannen's like, I don't think the
- 44:32Speaker 3: defensive coordinator was purely fired because Matt Rule wouldn't have fired.
- 44:36Speaker 3: I think there was some pressure of like, hey, I
- 44:38Speaker 3: gave you a freaking extension and you you come out
- 44:40Speaker 3: the next four games and look like absolutely you know,
- 44:44Speaker 3: I guess six, I guess it happened right before the
- 44:45Speaker 3: Minnesota game. Yeah, after, but you come out and the
- 44:49Speaker 3: end of the year, whatever it.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Was, it just feels like we're in Scott Frost the
- 44:52Speaker 1: year four and now two where the same thing happened.
- 44:54Speaker 1: We're like, Frost, we're not firing you yet, but you
- 44:58Speaker 1: better go out and get a new coordinator because what's
- 45:00Speaker 1: what you're doing is play calling is not working. So
- 45:03Speaker 1: we go out again. Mark Whipple like it just it
- 45:06Speaker 1: feels so repetitive right now, which sucks that we're here
- 45:10Speaker 1: in Nebraska football. But until you define the lines of scrimmage,
- 45:15Speaker 1: I don't think it matters who you have here because
- 45:17Speaker 1: that's what we are as a program, like we are
- 45:20Speaker 1: not we gotta be Iowa. We gotta be Iowa and Minnesota,
- 45:24Speaker 1: and we got to be those teams first before we
- 45:27Speaker 1: can do We're playing them every year and we get
- 45:29Speaker 1: our ask kicked by them every year. So until you
- 45:31Speaker 1: become them and be them, we.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Don't need to be like and even then, like the
- 45:35Speaker 3: bar is as you know, it's not absolutely domination, Like
- 45:38Speaker 3: Iowa's defensive line didn't absolutely dominate us. Yeah, but they
- 45:43Speaker 3: didn't get pushed around. I mean, like you know, they
- 45:45Speaker 3: still have applied pressure.
- 45:47Speaker 1: But because they believe in toughness and physicality and all
- 45:50Speaker 1: of that, and that just to me. You can say
- 45:51Speaker 1: that as Nebraska, like coaches can say that, but Iowa
- 45:56Speaker 1: and Minnesota know how to teach it and preach it
- 45:57Speaker 1: and live it to a whole nother level, doing the
- 46:00Speaker 1: little hard things. Like again, the coaching staff is going
- 46:04Speaker 1: to say, we are doing the hard things, but we
- 46:06Speaker 1: are doing tackle drills, and no point. It's doing them better.
- 46:10Speaker 1: It's doing them to an elite level. And if you
- 46:12Speaker 1: don't know what the how to do it to an
- 46:13Speaker 1: elite level, then then yeah, you're gonna get your ass
- 46:16Speaker 1: kicked by the teams that are doing it at an
- 46:17Speaker 1: elite level.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Those two teams, especially now it's been through multiple coaches.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Is in Nebraska, they know with Nebraska, if you just
- 46:27Speaker 2: stick the same game plan, eventually Nebraska crumble and you'll
- 46:31Speaker 2: be able just to dominate them on I.
- 46:35Speaker 3: Mean, outside of the fumble, it didn't really feel like
- 46:38Speaker 3: we were beating ourselves. It just felt like they beat.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Yeah, which is which is which? Which is worse?
- 46:48Speaker 3: And I felt that way all year. I don't know
- 46:50Speaker 3: if there's really a game where it felt like, oh
- 46:52Speaker 3: my gosh, we just did this, If we just cleaned
- 46:54Speaker 3: this up, we'd be It felt it just felt like
- 46:58Speaker 3: we got beat the games we lost, it's just like, oh,
- 47:00Speaker 3: we just got outside of the USC That was the
- 47:03Speaker 3: only one where Dylan gets hurt, and I felt like
- 47:05Speaker 3: we were in a decent position. The other three or four,
- 47:09Speaker 3: I guess I just I just felt like we got
- 47:12Speaker 3: beat out. Now Michigan I felt a little different, but
- 47:15Speaker 3: definitely the last three it's like, I just we're just
- 47:18Speaker 3: getting beat We're not we're not fumbling the ball, we're
- 47:20Speaker 3: not throwing dumb interceptions. We're not. Michigan kind of was
- 47:24Speaker 3: that way too, I mean a little bit.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I Michian was the one I was thinking of.
- 47:28Speaker 1: But so I'll call out Jackson. He's kind of our
- 47:32Speaker 1: consultant here and this is out. You know his mind
- 47:35Speaker 1: is he just eat frustrated. Never can work here. You know,
- 47:39Speaker 1: you fix one thing and the next thing goes right.
- 47:41Speaker 1: You fix the turnovers and you fix special teams. But
- 47:44Speaker 1: then now this, you know O line D line goes
- 47:48Speaker 1: blows Well, then you'll fix that next year and then
- 47:50Speaker 1: we'll go back to the quarterback will blow up. Like
- 47:56Speaker 1: while that's true, we've been playing this cycle for ten
- 47:59Speaker 1: years now of this thing got better and then the
- 48:03Speaker 1: next thing falls off. If you have the foundation and
- 48:07Speaker 1: the core of a line of scrimmage, Okay, then some
- 48:11Speaker 1: of those other things will ebb and flow, yes, But
- 48:16Speaker 1: if you have a consistent core in a in that piece,
- 48:20Speaker 1: you will be better off in every other aspect of
- 48:25Speaker 1: the game. And that is what I That is what
- 48:27Speaker 1: those teams do right now in the Big Ten and
- 48:29Speaker 1: why they win, why they are consistently seven eight win
- 48:32Speaker 1: teams with occasional blow up years of winning more than that,
- 48:38Speaker 1: is because they have a strong line of scrimmage and
- 48:41Speaker 1: they don't ever fall back to having four or five
- 48:44Speaker 1: win seasons three four five win seasons like some of
- 48:47Speaker 1: these other Big Ten teams do, because they build that first.
- 48:51Speaker 1: And that's why it's so important that you have to
- 48:54Speaker 1: understand then realize that if you're an Nebraska coach, I
- 48:58Speaker 1: don't I hope that's Evan didn't to Matt Rule. I
- 49:02Speaker 1: think it's what's gonna save his job in the long term,
- 49:07Speaker 1: but right now that's not the case. And and speaking
- 49:10Speaker 1: of his job, and not just Matt Rule, but a
- 49:15Speaker 1: coach in Nebraska, I want to ask you guys, like, what,
- 49:21Speaker 1: h what is going to keep a coach here for
- 49:27Speaker 1: a long period of time. I mean, yes, getting coached
- 49:30Speaker 1: by another school is one way you leave. But if
- 49:33Speaker 1: you're a coach in Nebraska right now, what what is
- 49:35Speaker 1: something that's going to secure your job for Like, what
- 49:39Speaker 1: is what is the goals? What what's your what's your
- 49:41Speaker 1: what's your goal as a coach? There's a program right now, Like.
- 49:49Speaker 3: I don't fully understand.
- 49:51Speaker 1: I mean, to win games, will win games, but like
- 49:53Speaker 1: what's going to keep your job? You're like, if you're
- 49:55Speaker 1: if you're winning six games, you're not gonna get You're
- 49:57Speaker 1: not gonna stay here forever.
- 49:58Speaker 3: Oh I see from the administration perspective.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Yeah, well it would just fans expectations players coach, Like
- 50:05Speaker 1: what what what what are you working towards?
- 50:10Speaker 2: Show for right now? Being that rule, show showing you
- 50:13Speaker 2: know what the problems are on your team and fix
- 50:17Speaker 2: that for sure. That's that's number one. Like like you've
- 50:21Speaker 2: been saying, d line on line, you gotta fix that
- 50:24Speaker 2: for sure. That's that's one one way to keep your
- 50:26Speaker 2: job and if you don't, your job's gone. Like that's
- 50:28Speaker 2: that's I'm saying.
- 50:29Speaker 1: I'm saying, what's your goal as a coach?
- 50:31Speaker 2: Like anywhere have come out of the season, showing that
- 50:36Speaker 2: you're moving forward.
- 50:38Speaker 1: I'm talking like goals like end of the year, where
- 50:40Speaker 1: you see yourself in the in the in the nation.
- 50:43Speaker 2: Like oh, the playoffs for sure or national title.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that to me is yes, Like if you're coaching
- 50:52Speaker 1: any program, right you have maybe not maybe you're doing
- 50:56Speaker 1: yeah yeah, maybe maybe you're maybe you're literally doing it
- 50:59Speaker 1: to make best friends with with players, but like your
- 51:03Speaker 1: goal is to win games what Austin said, at a
- 51:05Speaker 1: very simplistic level, but you have a goal of being
- 51:10Speaker 1: consistently good, which to me is defined as competing to
- 51:16Speaker 1: be in the playoffs and give yourself a chance to
- 51:19Speaker 1: win a national title. That's that's what That's what I
- 51:22Speaker 1: think keeps a job right now anywhere.
- 51:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 51:24Speaker 1: Jonathan Smith just gets fired at Michigan State. Michigan State
- 51:28Speaker 1: did not see a future with him ever getting them
- 51:31Speaker 1: back to an eight or nine win team and making
- 51:34Speaker 1: the playoffs. That was not going that way. Obviously u
- 51:37Speaker 1: CLA happened. These coaches are getting fired. Well, the guy
- 51:40Speaker 1: at cal Cal got fired for going seven and five
- 51:44Speaker 1: right this year, and Duke get seven and five in
- 51:48Speaker 1: the ACC champion That's that is what any Power five
- 51:51Speaker 1: coach and that you can have a different opinion on this,
- 51:55Speaker 1: Like any Power five coach wants their team to be
- 51:59Speaker 1: a contender to make the playoffs year in, year out.
- 52:02Speaker 1: Is that I mean to me, that's a true statement.
- 52:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a true statement.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Yeah, so Matt rule. And that's why we actually had
- 52:09Speaker 1: about twenty five to thirty people vote in our poll.
- 52:12Speaker 1: DAK put one out there. We put a poll out there,
- 52:16Speaker 1: will Matt Rule ever get this team to the playoffs?
- 52:19Speaker 2: And it was pretty resounding.
- 52:20Speaker 1: No, it was I think it was like end up
- 52:22Speaker 1: being sixty two thirty eight percent. No, I don't know, Austin,
- 52:28Speaker 1: did you voter or do you see that?
- 52:30Speaker 3: I didn't see that.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Noll would you what would you?
- 52:32Speaker 3: What would you?
- 52:33Speaker 1: Would you?
- 52:33Speaker 3: If you is no?
- 52:34Speaker 1: Yes, no, No, there's no Maybe if you just said
- 52:36Speaker 1: right now, I'm giving you a three thousand dollars, you
- 52:39Speaker 1: can win it. If you nail this on the head,
- 52:41Speaker 1: will Matt Rule win a playoff game or play in
- 52:42Speaker 1: a playoff game? In Nebraska?
- 52:46Speaker 3: It's really about on how long do you think he's
- 52:47Speaker 3: going to be here?
- 52:48Speaker 1: That's it all factored in, is it yes or no?
- 52:51Speaker 3: I'm just saying no, I'm gonna say now, no, no,
- 52:56Speaker 3: because I think if you have two more years where
- 52:57Speaker 3: we're eighting five or eating or well, because yeah, you
- 53:04Speaker 3: know again next your schedule, he's going to get through
- 53:07Speaker 3: the next your schedule, which is the thing.
- 53:08Speaker 1: I don't let me rephrase the question a little bit too,
- 53:12Speaker 1: because yeah, you can factor in how long you think
- 53:14Speaker 1: he'll be allowed to be here. Let's say you give
- 53:16Speaker 1: him ten years, fifteen years, then you think do you
- 53:21Speaker 1: think he would make you think he would make a
- 53:23Speaker 1: playoff game?
- 53:24Speaker 2: Yep, yeah, if he's yeah, if you see your ten
- 53:28Speaker 2: fifteen years, then obviously there's something good ten.
- 53:30Speaker 3: Or fifteen years.
- 53:31Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not saying he's here. I'm not saying
- 53:34Speaker 1: that's given. I'm saying, if you give him ten or
- 53:36Speaker 1: fifteen years, like right now, you cannot fire him. Okay,
- 53:41Speaker 1: it's not ener years is not guaranteeing that he's having success.
- 53:45Speaker 1: I'm just saying you can't fire him. Must add a
- 53:47Speaker 1: rule that says you can. I think you're forced with
- 53:50Speaker 1: him for fifteen years.
- 53:52Speaker 3: One. A couple of things big to the they're going
- 53:54Speaker 3: to expand the playoffs. It'll happen. There's too much money,
- 53:57Speaker 3: not too ok let's think to that to what team
- 54:00Speaker 3: formata right now, I do think I think within a
- 54:02Speaker 3: ten year period there's gonna be there would be one
- 54:05Speaker 3: fluke year top twelve yea.
- 54:10Speaker 1: So that if here, here's here's how I'm looking at.
- 54:13Speaker 1: And if people ask about Rule in his future in Nebraska,
- 54:16Speaker 1: that's the question I'm going to just pick their brain with,
- 54:19Speaker 1: because to me, that's that's the that's that is how
- 54:23Speaker 1: you can decide as an individual, whether you want him
- 54:25Speaker 1: here as your coach to say next year, but just
- 54:30Speaker 1: in the future. Austin right now would say yes, because
- 54:33Speaker 1: he thinks he can't. I don't think he can. I
- 54:35Speaker 1: don't think he I don't think he understands what we
- 54:39Speaker 1: talked about earlier, how to do some of the other
- 54:43Speaker 1: things outside of selling. So I don't think he can.
- 54:46Speaker 1: So that's why I'm leaning towards I wouldn't want him here,
- 54:48Speaker 1: dak would would you say he can or cannot?
- 54:53Speaker 2: If you give him it was it was ten fifteen years.
- 54:55Speaker 1: Yes, So you think Matt Rule is what you're saying, then,
- 54:59Speaker 1: is he's going to probably you'll be able to problem
- 55:01Speaker 1: solve and figure out how to get the right pieces
- 55:03Speaker 1: together to get themselves back to the playoffs.
- 55:07Speaker 2: For ten, for ten fteen years. And it's only because
- 55:10Speaker 2: I think exactly what Austin said, I think it would
- 55:12Speaker 2: be there'd be one year in there with fluke here,
- 55:14Speaker 2: which I'm not so I'm not like saying this guy, yes.
- 55:22Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys, I guess maybe are positive that I
- 55:25Speaker 1: what fluke years aren't to me, there's not There's no
- 55:27Speaker 1: such thing as a fluke here. I don't think, not
- 55:31Speaker 1: not in college. But like when if we had a
- 55:34Speaker 1: fluke year in Nebraska in our lifetime, our lifetime, We've
- 55:39Speaker 1: never had a lifetime.
- 55:43Speaker 2: Mike Layoffs Ta Martinez, the freshman year.
- 55:52Speaker 1: That wouldn't have made the playoffs had no fluke seasons.
- 55:56Speaker 2: No, that was.
- 55:59Speaker 1: I mean, maybe say that, I just don't. I don't
- 56:02Speaker 1: think you will. I mean that if we get Lineman
- 56:07Speaker 1: and do all that in the next month and a half,
- 56:10Speaker 1: then maybe you can change my mind on that. But
- 56:12Speaker 1: as of right now, I just at my I just
- 56:14Speaker 1: don't think he can. And you're right, it does come
- 56:19Speaker 1: down to what we're allowed to give him. And that's
- 56:20Speaker 1: where some people are tired of the firing the coaches
- 56:25Speaker 1: and that cycle of giving someone time. I just think
- 56:32Speaker 1: those times are over. I really do, like in the
- 56:35Speaker 1: transfer portal market and in a world where you do.
- 56:38Speaker 1: And this is why Matt Rule like what he's good at,
- 56:42Speaker 1: this is why things can be good under him is
- 56:44Speaker 1: because he's a good salesman. And all you have to
- 56:46Speaker 1: do is sell to your players in your program, in
- 56:48Speaker 1: the country, your style and vision, because it is people
- 56:52Speaker 1: can move in and out so frequently. But if you
- 56:56Speaker 1: don't have anything to sell and things aren't going well,
- 57:00Speaker 1: it's not good. So that that, that to me, is
- 57:03Speaker 1: why I don't I don't know. I I'm okay with
- 57:07Speaker 1: getting in a new up and comer and trying it
- 57:09Speaker 1: for a few years and if it doesn't work, then
- 57:13Speaker 1: move on to the next guy. I don't think money
- 57:14Speaker 1: is a big issue, and people always complain, oh, we're
- 57:18Speaker 1: paying coach X, Y and Z, We're still paying them
- 57:20Speaker 1: for their by Yeah, I don't think that's as big
- 57:25Speaker 1: a deal. Now. Maybe it is a little more now
- 57:27Speaker 1: that you gotta pay players, So maybe that isn't something
- 57:30Speaker 1: you get a factor in. But that is where that's
- 57:33Speaker 1: that That was the point of that question in that
- 57:38Speaker 1: real future, not that that's gonna be a huge topic
- 57:40Speaker 1: of conversation yet.
- 57:43Speaker 3: But I think he's not in the hot seat yet.
- 57:47Speaker 3: But next season is it's warming.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Agreed, and and and and yeah and and like my opinion,
- 57:54Speaker 1: I just I just don't. This schedule is tougher unless
- 57:58Speaker 1: we see something different with the roster to twenty twenty
- 58:00Speaker 1: six recruiting class is not good to me, just does not.
- 58:06Speaker 1: You're not gonna be able to make the excuse that
- 58:08Speaker 1: we're young and we have young talent coming up every year.
- 58:12Speaker 1: People are going to figure that out, Like I am already,
- 58:14Speaker 1: Like it's an excuse to me a little bit in
- 58:17Speaker 1: year three like this, that's your job to bring in
- 58:21Speaker 1: either veteran talent from the portal or developed guys that
- 58:24Speaker 1: were young in your first year, Like that's what you
- 58:26Speaker 1: should be doing. So that's not really a good excuse
- 58:29Speaker 1: to me in year three anymore.
- 58:32Speaker 2: And he hasn't. He has not proven to to fix
- 58:35Speaker 2: the parts where where you know in NEBRASKI needs to
- 58:38Speaker 2: be fixed, Like I.
- 58:39Speaker 3: Don't know if that's true. He's he fixed the turnovers,
- 58:42Speaker 3: he fixed special teams, special teams. He's am Like I say,
- 58:47Speaker 3: there's been no that I mean diserved. It has been
- 58:49Speaker 3: no improvement Obviously, we've made two Bowl games in a year,
- 58:51Speaker 3: which hadn't happened just eight seasons. So it's not to
- 58:56Speaker 3: say that the worst coach in the world and deserve
- 58:59Speaker 3: to be fired after three.
- 59:01Speaker 2: Right, those tums almost offset with how much the defense
- 59:06Speaker 2: in offensive lines just went are that much downhill right now?
- 59:10Speaker 3: Like I don't the offensive line wasn't worse than last year.
- 59:12Speaker 1: I don't think they had their moments, but last year
- 59:16Speaker 1: they had their moments too. I have heard another podcast
- 59:19Speaker 1: talk about it, like our offensive line kind of came
- 59:21Speaker 1: back a little bit back around the last couple of games.
- 59:24Speaker 3: We just decided to run the ball. But I think
- 59:26Speaker 3: that part of it was is we're just gonna run
- 59:28Speaker 3: the ball. We don't need to pass protect, we don't need.
- 59:30Speaker 1: To hello philosophy style like that that I run blocking
- 59:37Speaker 1: is another Jackson comment. Run blocking, I think is a
- 59:39Speaker 1: lot easier, a little more to get your mentality right
- 59:43Speaker 1: than pass blocking.
- 59:45Speaker 3: Because we're blocking. You're trying, Yeah, exactly, you're trying. You're
- 59:49Speaker 3: the one making the decisions asn't supposed to be in reactionary.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Yeah, you go ahead. But but like I said, with
- 59:57Speaker 2: offsets the offense, I mean it's still it's still terrible offensive.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: I think it's not.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: Terrible is a strong word.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I three or four out of ten.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not good. And that's that's something that coming
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: out of last year too, though, we're saying, hey, you
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: gotta fix this, and then you go bring in these
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: transfer porter guys. Spindler was good, good, but these other guys,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: like what, what has he proven that he can find
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: the right talent from the portal and all this recruiting,
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: all this find the right talent that's gonna help the
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: team win. He has not proven that one bit yet.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's the part of Yeah, you can sell
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: your program and your vision to anybody, but you got
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: to make sure they're the right people. Yeah, Spindler I
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: think helped our offensive line a lot. Justin Evans was
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: developed into a pretty good offensive lineman. Preach it. I
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: I'm torn on him. I think there's still raw talent there.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: I don't know that we saw that better.
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: I think he got better as the season went on.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Yeaheah, Like it's a tough one. We spent a lot
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: of money on him.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: He'd probably want to bring back and developed for a year,
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: and I think that he would be good enough.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Here we're talking about good, good enough, not bad. I
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: saw it stat summer. I don't. It's something about our
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: offensive lineman. Offensive lineman in the NFL drafted to the NFL,
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: like in the last so many years, we haven't had
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: one a long time. So we have these like good
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: enough guys. These guys are okay, we don't. We don't
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: have elite offensive linemen either. We haven't had one for
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: a long time, and.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: We used to.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: That used to be one area where we would always
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: be like Spencer Long, God, he sucks Nebraska. Then he'd
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: go on and have a twelve year career in the NFL,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: like they were pretty damn good. Mats Lawson another one
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: that we would be at, Mats Lawson's horrible, right, He's terrible.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Then he went on the NFL and played for nine years.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Like these guys were pretty damn good offensive We would
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: take Mats Lawson and Spencer Long and some of these
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: games we would take them back in a heartbeat right
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: now for offensive lineman. That that kind of shows how
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: far that position has taken a step back from the
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: lack of focus.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Now, Bill Callahan, I say, do we do a little
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: Mike Geckler action, get rid of Donny Riola and try
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: to bring in Bill Callahan for a year or two.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: Here we go, like he's he's he's a definition of
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: a very very like one of the better offensive line coaches.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: And he's proven that at multiple places. Not a head
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: coach obviously, but good offensive line coach. So yeah, like
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: that is a big thing as far as bringing players
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: in here. And and like I said, when people start
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: talking to me about all this other stuff on Nebraska football,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I just I'm responding with who cares get offensive lineman
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: defensive lineman? Like that's my mentality right now until even
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: when it comes to bowl game conversation. Now, this podcast
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: is going to be the place where we can I
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: can express my thoughts elsewhere, But all the other conversation
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: I think is wasted right now until you define that
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: for the Matt rule, like it's it's not we're talking
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: about to me, because that that, to me, is what's
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: going to define its future in the next year, especially
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: at Nebraska.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we'll see. Those are those are the and
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: I mean everyone went offensive lineman, defensive linemen and the
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: good ones don't leave you.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: But I'm talking next level like and.
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: There's no That's what I'm saying, there's not a lot
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: of those ones out there to be grabbed.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Like they're just go make guy. I would just say,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: go make them, like, spend extra money and dollars on
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: getting those guys. And I we we could go on
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: for another half hour on the allocation of dollars and
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: and we you know, we can talk. We have quarterbacks
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: to talk about, emmant to talk about. We can maybe
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: do that next podcast, and then.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: There's time to talk defensive coordinator. This week we got
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: to talk basketball and volleyball.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: We are going to talk defensive coordinator because that did happen.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: I Dak's been preparing a lot for this next little,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: little little segment here, John Butler, we we mentioned it.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: If you follow in a Brest football you p rightly
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: know we got fired. Matt Rule's now hiring a new
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: defensive coordinator. I saw you a b posted their uh
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: head football coach on LinkedIn yesterday. Was just kind of
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: funny something you know so coaches right now. The point
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: is coaches are also in a carousel of moving around,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: so I thought it would be kind of fun take
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: a little break from football, and let's let's let's see
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: what Dak knows about football and as a leader and everything. Dak,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna introduce you as Matt Rule, as the new
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: defensive coordinator to Unbraska football team. And this is your
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: first opportunity to speak to the team. So I gotta
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: get my Matt real voice voice ready here, Dak's gonna
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: get hired, and then I'll let them go. So Austin,
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: Austin's Austin's Austin's a linebacker, Dak, I'll role play pitch
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: it to Austin. He's a linebacker coming in next year's team.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: So hey, hey guys, this is uh been a tough year.
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: You know, I think we got a lot of progress,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: but uh, unfortunately we had to get rid of head
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: coach John Butler or defensive coordinator John Butler from the staff.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: Things weren't moving in the right direction, so I always
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: had to move in a new route. And I'd like
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: to interview you to our our new defensive coordinator, dakodea
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: free tech.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: All right, well, I'm glad to beat Nebraska. That's that's
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: that's number one here. Now, now let's dive into this
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: first step. First, here. There's no I in team, but
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: there isn't win. I make this team win. All right,
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: here we go. Enough of this bull craft. This last
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: guy sucks. He he knew what the problem was the
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: whole time with D line. The run game can stop
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: run game one bit. We're gonna get guys on D
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: line here, big old boys, three hundred pounds, four and
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: pounds for whatever they need. We're gonna stop that run,
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: stop that run game. We're gonna get pressure on the quarterback.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: That was another big thing. No pressure quarterback last year
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: at all. And we're gonna fix this team from within.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: And I'm I'm tired of hearing about all we got
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: all these transfer portal guys whatever, and all these guys left,
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: not that bull crap. We're gonna bring in the guys
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: I want, which is big dues on D line, fast
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: linebackers were You know, I'm just gonna tell to the
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: other teams and try to stop it. We're gonna send
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: the house a lot like plays. We're gonna be blitzing were.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: I don't care if we get burned deep. We're blitzing.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: We're gonna hit your quarterback. And you know what we're
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: We're gonna play a little dirty. There's gonna be some
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: cheap shots here and there. We're gonna make teams not
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: want to play us.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: And that's.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Okay, Coach, I'll go coach, coach freak tag Uh sorry,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: I think we made the wrong decision. Let's kid, all right,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: positions back open?
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: Do you gotta go? You don't want to blitz ninet
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: percent of the time?
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: No, you just that you didn't sell at all anything
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: to me as a player, as a as a head
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: coach of what what you're gonna believe in.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: This seems like someone who's never coached football before.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: I don't even need to comment on that. Did he
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: did he sell to you as a linebacker on the team.
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: No, I didn't buy it. Well, as a linebacker does
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: something like a roll. It's just just gonna hire some
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: five hundred pound people to sit in the middle of.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: A U.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, often you can go. Then we'll go
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: find another We'll go find a better guy.
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: Pack Louie.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: Yep, see, you you gotts suck get out of here.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: Especially his Colorado is also bad.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: I mean, I mean, you got a lineman. You probably
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: can't tell him like this, but I'd say Hey, you
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: guys suck get out of here, Like we're gonna bring
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: in different people.
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: I was just thinking about remember the Keona Davis, like,
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: we got to keep this guy. We can't let this
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: guy go in the portal. He's like probably like the
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: eleventh leeting tackler on the team.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Yep and Van Poppol those two ke Davis, Like, man,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: what did they do? That?
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: A whole lot?
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: Uh real quick, we'll mention it after volleyball Big ten Champs,
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: Big Ten Champs undefeated finished that off regional start this week.
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: For all Big ten players, Big Ten Set of the Year,
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: Big Ten Player of the Year, Berg and Riley sneaking
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: in there. No one had that one coming into the air.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: No, like, what a year. Chance here in the next
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: few weeks to finish off the year as you should
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: given the year that you've had, and there's no reason
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: to think that they shouldn't win the national championship. I
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: saw someone list off the potential path of teams, you know,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: ending obviously at the end with I believe we're on
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: the opposite side of Kentucky and Texas, who were kind
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: of the one seeds to be in the national title
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: potentially and then you can back your way out to
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: I don't even know who. I was thinking it was Pittsburgh.
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: Maybe one of a Pitts for the two seed in
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: our bracket is Oh geez, I just blanked. Kansas is
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: not a Kentucky.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: Oh, I just said there on Louisville. Yeah, so you
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: can back your way into that. But I think region
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: will start here this week against Long Beach is our
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: sixteen seed, and Kansas State and San Diego.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: What do you believe? Well, what are you putting the
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: odds on that Long Beach game is gonna be a sweep?
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: Well, this is Long Beach's head coach still, Tyler Hildebrand.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: Oh, actually a great question. I don't know, could be
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: former former co co or whatever, assistant head coach. That's
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: actually a good point. I kind of forgot he went there.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: It'd be a reason why they would put that matchup,
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: for sure.
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: I mean you could tell that the people building in
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: the bracket they're like, we want we want Danny to
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: beat Louisville. Well throw it, maybe.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: I thought I think he's still Rose State is kind
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: of like a local rivalry, And yeah.
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: I think Kansas is in our bracket too. Oh, that's
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: not for the bracket. There we go.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: They do that a little bit more in volleyball too,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: because they do it in basketball as well, but there's
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: a lot less scrutiny I think in volleyball, so their
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: ability to get away with it and not like take
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: them out the crap for it.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: Yeah, for basketball, they the same thing with A and M.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: I think when the Brass played damn. So yeah, it's.
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: Trying to find long.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Oh it's a long island. I think he went to
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: Long Beach.
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: Oh it is Long Island.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: Yeah, he went Long Beach, different California. Oh it could
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: be long.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: Well. Fans when they come here, uh, I think basketball.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Were we got we will spend a lot more time
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: talking about them here. But it is it would be
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: nice to talk about him here for a while, being
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: eight and o for the first time and a long time, don't.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: I don't know what the status on when the last
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: time Nebraska was eight. No, but it has to have
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: been not in our lifetime.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Yeah, But then they but then they throw a nice
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: kick to the balls right after the Iowa game, losing
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: losing the Siegeon. That's nothing. Nothing can always go too
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: good for Nebraska.
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: Back I was trying to keep this positive here, but
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: thanks for throwing that in there. Yes, the season is
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: out for the year. Uh heading into Creighton on on Sunday,
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: where I would I think we're probably going to be
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: favored at home. Yeah, Creighton. Creighton's looked okay, They've lost
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: a couple of games. They've also played a few tougher
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: teams than we have. But it's gonna be a good
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: game regardless. They're talking to one of the bigger games
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: UH at PBA in its history, given the stakes that A.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: I mean, you win this game, you're going to be ranked,
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: which I don't want to be ranked. But we're right
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: outside the top twenty five right now as eight no,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: which we should be, and big opportunity here heading into
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: great and week. We also play Wisconsin next Wednesday, which
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: is crazy that conference basketball is already here, but we are,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: and we're going to start to see what kind of
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: team we are, what of depth we have for the
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: Big Ten non conference is at worst we're losing one game,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: which I think is exceeding a lot of people stops. Yeah,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: he's been a very good start of the year.
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: That's the It's funny because the amount of money we
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: dumped into football. We have our The other three of
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: the Big four are all undefeated thus far in twenty
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: twenty five, I should twenty five. Yeah, this calendar, this
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: this scholarly a year, I should say women's, men's, and
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: volleyball are all undefeated. So good thing to put all
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: that money to football.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: Wait a second, I just thought about this throw back
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: the football just a little bit with basketball too. This
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: is gonna be weren't I wasn't on this podcast back then,
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: But weren't you guys ready to get rid of Hoiberg
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: after your three like didn't see the trajectory or anything.
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: Nope, we were. We We talked about hot seat. But
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: every at the end of every season, he kind of
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: saves himself by going on a run.
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: And I'm saying he's a better he is a better
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: coach and rule is for football. But but that could
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: be one hope there is that he turned that program
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: or turned this program around.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: There was I think there was some talk last year
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: maybe when he went on that like or two years ago,
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: where it's like, maybe it's time we look at, you know,
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: some of the other big names out there.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm still I have a different angle on this.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: I'm still talking. I'm Hoiberg has not saved his job
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: yet this year. For me, he's on his way.
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Don't get to a tournament game this year. Okay, I
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: don't want him here anymore.
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: And that's how I think. That's how we ended last
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: year was like this year's tournament or bust no tournament.
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and that keep in mind too, year three in
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Heiberg was not him turning a program around. Okay, it
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: was his He failed the program year was one and two. Yeah,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: so your your take on him, like ten miles, Remember
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: he got to a tournament in twenty fourteen, right, like
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: his his tenure got stagnant after a couple of years,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: a year or two after. I can't remember if it
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: was one year or two years after. It was only
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: one year. We didn't make the tournament after twenty fourteen.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: I can't remember exactly how many years it was after.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: But anyways, that's why he kind of got let go
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: and fired. And then heiber took over and it fell
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: off even more for the first few years.
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: And we've we've talked about why that was. He had
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: a very different vision style and it was not working
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: and he changed it, and now things have been moving.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: Now now we're back to I would say where Miles was,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: but I wouldn't for him to stay here long term,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: Like it's got to go the next step and make
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: a tournament and win a tournament game, Like I do
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: not want to coach here that if we're not winning
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: a tournament game after freaking fifteen years, why is he
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: still here. He shouldn't be here, he should be having
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: somebody else. So so you don't know, you're you're a
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: little smart comment here trying to get us is incorrect.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: Wow, Okay, it's been.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Better, be better.
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: He'd beats ranked teams. You know. That's it's just the
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: justas football. It's just like again, I agree he like,
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: you gotta you gotta make a tournament game. You have to. Yeah,
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: you just feel you feel better, You just feel better
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: about Fred.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: But you do you feel like I feel you feel
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: decent about the year? I like Big ten season. We're
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: gonna we're gonna see, like we'll find out the African,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: We'll see how important Connor is.
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: That's yeah, yeah, there's still plenty of time for the
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: wheels to fall off. But Sunday's game, I have a
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: couple of say this. I think it's not kind of
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: that A and M game, tournament game. I think it's
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: the biggest game Hoiberg's had in his tenure.
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: I'm not super worried about Connor Siegons loss. I don't know,
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: I could be wrong, but he's averaging fourteen minutes a game,
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: five points a game. I just don't know. If he's
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: a bad defender, he's a bad defender. Yeah, I thought
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: I was, like, I was more worried about our depth
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: because we're going and really playing seven deep than I
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: mean even that's the stretch, So we're we're thinner now.
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: But in theory, we have some guys that might be
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: able to fill a fourteen minute, five point void.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: Maybe I think Connor Connor's production would have won won
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: US one or two games in the Big Ten, because
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: he would have a couple of games where he would
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: just go off. He did last year, and he's just
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: he's an addage shooting threat on the court that you
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: have to guard him. And yes, he has not shot
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: at great, he has not scored much so far this year.
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: He would have popped off for a couple of games
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: this year and probably would have won us a couple
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: of games because he can shoot the ball. That's where
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: I think we're gonna miss him, which, you know, what
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: one to two games might be the difference in making
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: an NCAA tournament game or not. So that's where I'm
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: it's we're not missing his defense, Like we're probably gonna
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: get better because of that with whoever comes in and
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: plays instead of him. But that's where I think we
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: could see a little bit of a miss for him.
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, I'm not saying we won't miss him at all,
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: but I don't think that when you look at if
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: we don't make a term of game, like well, if
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: Connor's seagon was healthy this year, we probably would have
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: I don't think that's where we're gonna be.
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they just need they really need Kennel Blue
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: now stuff up and those other guards. But but yeah,
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: it's gonna be those it's gonna be those hot stretches
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: that you miss where the team's falling are kind of
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: like stagnant where he would knock that a couple of
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: threes and get him out of it. But and he
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: and he kinds of seemed like an energy guy too,
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: like when he came in it gets it gets the
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: whole team going. I guess when he when he would
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: come in and knock those down.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: Maybe. Yeah, I think he's kind of soft. I don't
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: know he's he's not Joe on Gary. No, No, he's
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: he's he's easily he's soft.
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: In my mind. Instagram boy.
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, long episode, That's okay. We had a lot
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: to talk about.
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: I still have opinions about the defensive coordinator stuff. We
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: waited too long. Next week.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: About hiring me or not not?
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: You definitely not you definitely not hiring that. I have
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: opinions about Matt rules structures.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: Well, maybe we'll have we might have an answer. I
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: don't know what we'll have by next week.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: We should have some names out there by next podcast happen.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: Yeah, as you know what, here's what you can do.
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: Do a little model and we'll post it on the podcast.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: Send me a monologue, all right.
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: Rolls around Phil Snow's role as the whatever the hell
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: Phil Snow does?
