- 0:45Speaker 1: It was like shoulder bicep resk me and merrily that's
- 0:48Speaker 1: his alarmed Stafford keeps getting hit the way he is.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I think he was sacked like twenty one times or something. Well,
- 0:52Speaker 1: a lot of him are his fault. I know, it's
- 0:54Speaker 1: just that doesn't even really not the Patriots can hold
- 0:57Speaker 1: the Browns below one hundred and two points three yards. Wow,
- 1:04Speaker 1: Will's in the barber shop? What's up? Will you getting
- 1:06Speaker 1: the junior boys regular? Washington? And really? Yeah? I give them.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe they rally around this news and
- 1:14Speaker 1: we're not a dysfunctional organizations, said, I think they're getting
- 1:18Speaker 1: better week by week as well. Why do you judge
- 1:20Speaker 1: that the previous two weeks we're not improvement? I just
- 1:23Speaker 1: watched the game, right, so I'm asking you what you're
- 1:25Speaker 1: judging it are they're playing much more solid defense, but
- 1:28Speaker 1: based on like this is what I'm saying, my eyes,
- 1:30Speaker 1: but you're saying they're improving my eyes. Did they get
- 1:33Speaker 1: better after Baltimore and after Baltimore? Yes, and they got
- 1:37Speaker 1: better after that. But they're getting better, but they got
- 1:39Speaker 1: out of point curse. This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:46Speaker 1: All Right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:50Speaker 1: at Gillette Stadium, and we're stacking wins now stacking wins.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Another another impressive performance by the ever moving defense for
- 2:01Speaker 1: the New England Patriots. Can I hear myself? I can
- 2:04Speaker 1: hear you can hear me? Yeah? Yeah, I can't hear myself,
- 2:07Speaker 1: but it's fine. I don't need to hear myself. Okay, Fred,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I have to give you a point because one hundred
- 2:14Speaker 1: and two point three you got that. You got it,
- 2:17Speaker 1: all right, you got it, we were under it, we won.
- 2:19Speaker 1: We were laughing at you for that specific number. But
- 2:23Speaker 1: I got to give you a credit where it's due. Okay,
- 2:26Speaker 1: even when I just make things up, I give I
- 2:30Speaker 1: give your credit for just predicting the run. Defense like that.
- 2:35Speaker 1: That's that was the key to the game. And I
- 2:37Speaker 1: think that was that was spot on. And I told
- 2:40Speaker 1: you if if they they hold them that far below
- 2:43Speaker 1: their average, I don't care this because I think there's
- 2:45Speaker 1: a lot of asterists to this, but I eliminate all
- 2:47Speaker 1: the asterisks. Well, because that was great defense they made.
- 2:50Speaker 1: They made Chubb look average early and then they took
- 2:53Speaker 1: control of the game and took him out of the Well,
- 2:55Speaker 1: that kind of thing they didn't. They made them look
- 2:56Speaker 1: average early, then they had points, and then they took
- 2:59Speaker 1: the running game out of play. You know, now who
- 3:02Speaker 1: knows if Chubb had run all day, but they didn't.
- 3:05Speaker 1: They didn't allow that because the average play well Chubb
- 3:08Speaker 1: average basically what he averages per carry, but they took
- 3:10Speaker 1: him out of the game because of the way they played. Ye,
- 3:14Speaker 1: so I mean, just exciting win. Now Cleveland stinks, you know,
- 3:19Speaker 1: so they do. I mean, I mean the first half,
- 3:22Speaker 1: both teams were just killing themselves. M and then you know,
- 3:26Speaker 1: in the second half, Cleveland continued to make mistakes. You know,
- 3:30Speaker 1: they they it looks like they have momentum and as
- 3:32Speaker 1: soon as they do they muff that that punt. You know, well,
- 3:36Speaker 1: what really stuck out to me what I wasn't expecting
- 3:38Speaker 1: because I think Cleveland has decent personnel. I don't think
- 3:40Speaker 1: that they're a terrible team. I still don't, even though
- 3:43Speaker 1: the Patriots killed him. I don't think they're a terrible team.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But what I sort of overlooked was um Kevin Stefancy.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I don't think he was ready for the game at all.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I don't think he went into the game with the
- 3:55Speaker 1: proper mindset. I think you have a backup quarterback, and
- 3:58Speaker 1: you look at the way the Patriots have to their
- 4:00Speaker 1: backup quarterbacks, and then you contrast that to the what
- 4:03Speaker 1: Cleveland tried to do, having a guy on the second
- 4:06Speaker 1: play of the game execute a play action rollout throw
- 4:10Speaker 1: deep down the field on the run, a play that
- 4:13Speaker 1: he's physically incapable of making it. It was there, it's open.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Your quarterback couldn't get the ball there, he couldn't reach it.
- 4:20Speaker 1: It was just a typical example of overthinking things. Like
- 4:24Speaker 1: they come out throwing, but I don't I don't mind
- 4:27Speaker 1: that they came out throwing. It's throwing in a way
- 4:30Speaker 1: that the quarterback physically can't do. Like if you want
- 4:34Speaker 1: to just come out throwing. Like, the first throw was great,
- 4:36Speaker 1: you you get five yards here we go. Okay, the
- 4:39Speaker 1: second throw you got a guy wide open. It doesn't
- 4:42Speaker 1: matter because the guy couldn't get it there. Yeah, like
- 4:45Speaker 1: that's just coaching negligence. It was. It was great, but
- 4:48Speaker 1: and Belichick just like, well, yeah, you want to here.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Here's here's why Belton not not the only reason, but
- 4:54Speaker 1: to illustrate just how much better Belichick is than most
- 4:57Speaker 1: of these guys. You're on the road, You're playing against
- 5:02Speaker 1: a team with a backup quarterback, and you have a
- 5:05Speaker 1: backup quarterback, and it's fourth and goal from the one
- 5:08Speaker 1: yard line, and you say, I'd really like to get
- 5:12Speaker 1: a touchdown here, but I'm gonna take the lead. I'm
- 5:15Speaker 1: gonna kick a field goal, and I'm going to make
- 5:16Speaker 1: sure that my backup quarterback, who's never experienced trailing as
- 5:21Speaker 1: a starter, is going to lead. He's gonna get the lead.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I'm going to kick the field goal and make it three. Nothing.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Fast forward about eight ten minutes in the game. It's
- 5:30Speaker 1: now three to three, and Cleveland's got the ball in
- 5:32Speaker 1: the seventeen eighteen yard line and they have fourth in
- 5:35Speaker 1: one and instead of taking the lead and making said
- 5:39Speaker 1: backup quarterback play from behind for the first time of
- 5:41Speaker 1: his career. We're gonna go for it. And we're not
- 5:44Speaker 1: only going to go for it, we're gonna take our
- 5:46Speaker 1: best player and put him on the sideline for that
- 5:48Speaker 1: play and have the quarterback to a quarterback sneak because
- 5:51Speaker 1: he's got some silly percentage of success raid on quarterback
- 5:55Speaker 1: sneaks instead of kicking the field goal to take a
- 5:58Speaker 1: six three lead. Yeah, you go for it now the
- 6:01Speaker 1: other team has all the momentum like that like to me,
- 6:04Speaker 1: encapsulated the differences, Like just I know what your chart says,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I know what analytics say. You're gonna you're gonna convert
- 6:11Speaker 1: that how many percentage of the time, Mike, I think
- 6:14Speaker 1: it was ninety six percent. But like you said, Kobe
- 6:16Speaker 1: percent that there's no no play, no feel for the game.
- 6:20Speaker 1: That doesn't take into account when you have two two
- 6:23Speaker 1: backup quarterbacks, like you're not necessarily looking to score forty
- 6:26Speaker 1: points today, right and think about the way the game unfolded.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Try to try to forget about the last two touchdowns
- 6:33Speaker 1: that happened with two turnovers in the last five minutes.
- 6:36Speaker 1: As you said, it's a twenty four to fifteen game.
- 6:40Speaker 1: If it's twenty four eighteen, the whole game is different.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Yeah right, yeah, yeah, I thought it was funny. That's
- 6:46Speaker 1: why they lose you. Yeah, yeah, I think we all
- 6:49Speaker 1: sound funny. I don't sorry, I just thought it was funny.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Dugger yesterday kind of acknowledged like, yeah, it wasn't a
- 6:56Speaker 1: great pass coverage, but I got once I got in,
- 6:58Speaker 1: I saw him slowing down looking back for the underthrown ball,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and then I was able to get my head around
- 7:02Speaker 1: and make the end. Dugger, Yeah, oh yeah, and a
- 7:05Speaker 1: good player and a good play by Dugger, who, by
- 7:07Speaker 1: the way, I thought had a really strong game. Yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 1: like the interception aside, I thought the plays that he
- 7:12Speaker 1: made around the line of scrimmage were Yeah, he had
- 7:14Speaker 1: the one play he got toasted a little bit, yeah,
- 7:17Speaker 1: a lot of bit yeah yeah yeah, and that's funny.
- 7:21Speaker 1: And the pre game shore I said, this is a
- 7:23Speaker 1: game where I'm happy that he is playing. Um, you know,
- 7:26Speaker 1: we obviously missed him that one game where where he
- 7:28Speaker 1: wasn't active, and so I was happy in a game
- 7:30Speaker 1: where you do need to rely on tackling a lot
- 7:32Speaker 1: with that two headed monster that he was in there.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I was really worried, you know, when guy was announced
- 7:37Speaker 1: that he wasn't gonna play again. It's like Jonathan Jones. Yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 1: I was really worried about the run upfront. But man,
- 7:43Speaker 1: they did a really good job. And Jennings did a
- 7:46Speaker 1: good job. Tavy did a good they all did. I
- 7:49Speaker 1: mean people were filling, the safeties were coming down. It
- 7:53Speaker 1: was just I mean everybody did their job. Yeah. Team,
- 7:57Speaker 1: it was a good team win. Carla has jumped off
- 8:00Speaker 1: side started bring that up against me, but but he
- 8:02Speaker 1: was really good. And he also had a yeah, I
- 8:06Speaker 1: mean Davis in the middle just a beast, you know,
- 8:10Speaker 1: gotcha had you know, they all just played really well. Yeah. Yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 1: I mean it had to. And you know, I think
- 8:15Speaker 1: and in the hindsight is you know, I like it.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I like that they're stacking some things and that they're
- 8:21Speaker 1: starting to put some things together on defense, and I
- 8:23Speaker 1: mean I think they're I know, we'll get in the
- 8:25Speaker 1: quarterback of it all, but just on the defensive side
- 8:27Speaker 1: of the ball, trying not to get too overamped about,
- 8:30Speaker 1: like you know, let's just stay at the moment. I mean,
- 8:32Speaker 1: we went to last week, right, you know, I mean
- 8:35Speaker 1: part of me feels like I want to give them
- 8:37Speaker 1: more credit than maybe I am right now, because I
- 8:40Speaker 1: just have that trepidation in the last couple of seasons
- 8:42Speaker 1: of how it kind of went down the stretch, so
- 8:45Speaker 1: I'm not going to get there yet. They got you know,
- 8:47Speaker 1: Chicago this week. I think that that that should be
- 8:50Speaker 1: another game where they can take some steps forward. But
- 8:52Speaker 1: I mean, just the number of rookies too, that are
- 8:54Speaker 1: you know, contributing Marcus Jones, I thought, was you know,
- 8:57Speaker 1: really good just in some sample, small sample size, but yeah,
- 9:00Speaker 1: all those guys are getting to play. And I don't
- 9:03Speaker 1: know if it says anything about with the current you know,
- 9:07Speaker 1: not like the coaching staff, I guess, but it's just
- 9:09Speaker 1: I don't know, it just feels so much more like
- 9:12Speaker 1: they are actively trying to get rookies involved this year,
- 9:15Speaker 1: whereas you know, I think we've talked about it over
- 9:17Speaker 1: the last few years. And I don't know if that's
- 9:18Speaker 1: just because past rookie classes just weren't that good and
- 9:20Speaker 1: this one is good and it's clicking for them and
- 9:23Speaker 1: that's why, or if they're saying, you know, we need
- 9:26Speaker 1: to just get these guys out there sooner than later.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I mean, Jack Jones has been involved since the beginning.
- 9:30Speaker 1: You're seeing Sam Roberts get some cleanup time because guys out.
- 9:33Speaker 1: But I just again go back to the big point
- 9:36Speaker 1: going into this year, finding these young guys and you know,
- 9:39Speaker 1: as good as the last couple of draft classes have looked,
- 9:41Speaker 1: and I think they've been solid. I think this one
- 9:44Speaker 1: has a chance to maybe be one of the best
- 9:46Speaker 1: ones overall of the last few years. Yeah, you guys,
- 9:50Speaker 1: what's that you play young guys? I know they start
- 9:54Speaker 1: listening to Paul when when that's all you have, you
- 9:57Speaker 1: have no choice, I mean, yeah, but it's to see
- 10:00Speaker 1: them playing well and making plays, and you know, Marcus
- 10:02Speaker 1: Jones is right there on the play and Jack Jones
- 10:05Speaker 1: is around the ball a lot, and you know, feisty
- 10:07Speaker 1: and the rookies. I know you're being you know, a
- 10:09Speaker 1: little poking the bear there. But you don't really think
- 10:12Speaker 1: that he's just playing young guys because he has to. No,
- 10:15Speaker 1: I mean he wants to for sure, right Yeah, I
- 10:18Speaker 1: think he clearly they had they decided as an organization
- 10:22Speaker 1: that this is where we're gonna We're gonna put some
- 10:24Speaker 1: of these guys in roles. I'm not telling you that
- 10:27Speaker 1: like Sam Roberts played as many snaps as they thought
- 10:30Speaker 1: he would play. Now, like, I mean, let's face it,
- 10:32Speaker 1: Sam Roberts hasn't done anything but Jack Jones. I think
- 10:36Speaker 1: from the first day of OTA's you said, yeah, that's
- 10:39Speaker 1: a guy that might contribute on defense this year. You
- 10:40Speaker 1: could see that he was in groups with people Cole Strange, Obvious,
- 10:45Speaker 1: Tae Kwon, Thornton. By the time you got to training camp,
- 10:47Speaker 1: I thought it was slow in the spring, but by
- 10:49Speaker 1: the time you got to training camp, you said, there's
- 10:51Speaker 1: a guy that's probably gonna find his way on the
- 10:53Speaker 1: active roster every week because he looks like he belongs.
- 10:57Speaker 1: And in Marcus Jones's return ability was apparent. Um, injuries
- 11:02Speaker 1: is starting to pile up a little bit. Um now,
- 11:06Speaker 1: I guess Born has a toe. Uh Agalore is still out.
- 11:11Speaker 1: He missed the game with his hamstring. Damian Harris missed
- 11:14Speaker 1: the game. Um you know, so you know the injury
- 11:18Speaker 1: bugs starting to special team er. You know that's one
- 11:25Speaker 1: third of the game. Blow. Yeah, well listen that one
- 11:29Speaker 1: looks serious by the way, and and now like to
- 11:31Speaker 1: non contact just went I don't I don't like joking
- 11:33Speaker 1: around about twenty a cls that looked like a twenty
- 11:35Speaker 1: a cl Yeah, so hopefully we get guy back up.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I mean we kind of last year we saw Barmore
- 11:43Speaker 1: go down in a heap and then he came back.
- 11:45Speaker 1: So see the problem with I don't know, like if
- 11:48Speaker 1: it was the same injury, yeah, to him out, but
- 11:50Speaker 1: it isn't that where you immediately go, that's what you
- 11:52Speaker 1: immediately think, and you don't like that because now you
- 11:55Speaker 1: really kind of have to sit them, yeah, you know,
- 11:57Speaker 1: to get it to get it better. I guess they
- 11:59Speaker 1: he was trying to get back in the game based
- 12:01Speaker 1: on the PO. Was talking to Mike a little bit,
- 12:03Speaker 1: Mike Reese. He was doing some work on the sideline
- 12:05Speaker 1: and I brought that up. I said, remember last year
- 12:07Speaker 1: when it looked like he was dead there and all
- 12:09Speaker 1: of a sudden he came back and played the next game. Yeah.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I think that was one of the better games to
- 12:13Speaker 1: just run defense wise that Barmore's looked just in the
- 12:15Speaker 1: limited You know, he was instrumental on that quarterback sneak.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Yeah Barmore yea yeah. Yeah. So so that's but you
- 12:22Speaker 1: know that's affecting every team. Every team has injuries. You
- 12:25Speaker 1: just have to play through those and this is if
- 12:27Speaker 1: you're going to have him. I think this is a
- 12:29Speaker 1: good stretch to have right this week. This is your week.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Just get healthy this week. So I would just like
- 12:35Speaker 1: to say Paul or not. Yeah, I would just like
- 12:37Speaker 1: to say not, Paul. Fred I told you Thursday night's
- 12:40Speaker 1: game could be worse than the Thursday before his game
- 12:43Speaker 1: and it was bad. Oh yeah, it was terrible. Yeah,
- 12:46Speaker 1: and there's no way. I was like, you're right, And
- 12:49Speaker 1: last night's game wasn't much better, you know. And I
- 12:52Speaker 1: tried to watch it because I was like, okay, Bears
- 12:54Speaker 1: next opponent, Like, let me try to watch it. And
- 12:56Speaker 1: then I'm like, watching last night, I couldn't tell if
- 13:00Speaker 1: it was just bad football or the defenses were really good.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I couldn't tell um, And I came to the conclusion
- 13:10Speaker 1: as the game continued that it was more just bad football,
- 13:13Speaker 1: especially the Broncos offense. I thought Russell Wilson after the
- 13:16Speaker 1: first quarter looked like he had never played. Yeah, he
- 13:18Speaker 1: just can't throw in the pocket. What's going on? He
- 13:21Speaker 1: can't throw in the pockets? Did you watch? Let's forgot
- 13:24Speaker 1: You chastised me off there and told me you didn't
- 13:26Speaker 1: watch it very aggresively, remember it, very aggressive. He was
- 13:30Speaker 1: hurtful of maybe two plays, maybe two or three plays,
- 13:33Speaker 1: and then this ain't it. But he starts off, He's
- 13:36Speaker 1: like ten for ten and you know, mostly short stuff screens.
- 13:39Speaker 1: But then he hit uh, he hit one downfield for
- 13:42Speaker 1: a catching round with Judy and then he got the
- 13:43Speaker 1: tight end all by himself. And you're like, all right,
- 13:46Speaker 1: you know I could see that maybe they got a
- 13:48Speaker 1: ten nothing lead. They look like they then nothing nothing
- 13:51Speaker 1: the rest of the game, absolutely nothing. But back to
- 13:54Speaker 1: the Patriots. Um, we we have to talk about the offense.
- 13:57Speaker 1: And you know, thirty eight points all offense, gonna talk
- 14:00Speaker 1: about what short fields, but we're gonna talk about Zappy
- 14:06Speaker 1: and Jones or not. What are we doing. I'm transitioning
- 14:10Speaker 1: to the offense. I'm transitioning to the offense. Um, I
- 14:15Speaker 1: think Zappy, listen, whatever you think of you know, you
- 14:19Speaker 1: know Mac for Zappy, you have to admit that Zappy
- 14:23Speaker 1: played a good game. Turning wheels came off. He played
- 14:26Speaker 1: a damn good game. I mean the poise, you know,
- 14:30Speaker 1: just he had pressure, he threw down field, he you know,
- 14:34Speaker 1: uh made things happen. I think he was accurate. You
- 14:38Speaker 1: got to give him all the credit that you know
- 14:40Speaker 1: that is due to him. You know, he played an
- 14:43Speaker 1: excellent game. So who plays Monday night? If Mac is ready?
- 14:48Speaker 1: He plays? When Mac is ready, Mac plays, Okay, period,
- 14:53Speaker 1: So no no discussion, no discussion, no discussion. Now I
- 14:58Speaker 1: still say, and the numbers bear out. I've opened up,
- 15:01Speaker 1: I have an hour and forty five minutes free that
- 15:03Speaker 1: I wasn't expecting. I think. I think Evan did a
- 15:06Speaker 1: really good job this morning. Um, you know, detailing the
- 15:10Speaker 1: differences in the game between when Mac is playing and
- 15:14Speaker 1: what they're they're being asked to do. Now, in this game,
- 15:17Speaker 1: you know, it was a little they asked Zappi to
- 15:19Speaker 1: do a little bit more. But still Mac what this
- 15:23Speaker 1: year has been asked to do a lot more. The
- 15:26Speaker 1: offense he's running is a little bit different than what
- 15:28Speaker 1: Zappy's running. And you know, I'll say that if Zappy
- 15:33Speaker 1: was asked to do what Mac was being asked to do,
- 15:36Speaker 1: he wouldn't look as good. He wouldn't look as good,
- 15:38Speaker 1: right you know, So does that mean you pull back
- 15:42Speaker 1: a little bit on Mac or do you still wanted
- 15:44Speaker 1: to keep trying other things? That's a really good question.
- 15:46Speaker 1: So what has the coaches learn from this experience? Well,
- 15:50Speaker 1: what did you think of Zappy in relation to how
- 15:54Speaker 1: Mac looked in some of these kinds of games last year,
- 15:57Speaker 1: like the Cleveland game last year, which I, Mike and
- 16:00Speaker 1: I have contended at nauseum that we thought that was
- 16:03Speaker 1: his best game last year. What did you think of
- 16:06Speaker 1: you know, Zappy in this game compared to like the
- 16:08Speaker 1: Jets games or like the Jacksonville game, right that it
- 16:12Speaker 1: was kind of comparable. Well, you know, and you could
- 16:15Speaker 1: say maybe Mac was even a little better. But you know,
- 16:19Speaker 1: we haven't seen Zappy in the games where things weren't
- 16:21Speaker 1: working out, you know, I know, and I know there'll
- 16:24Speaker 1: be some bumps in the road. But like I'm talking about,
- 16:27Speaker 1: I'm comparing apples to apples, one guy playing at his
- 16:31Speaker 1: best with a guy playing at his best last year
- 16:33Speaker 1: under similar kind of constraints. Yep, did you I didn't
- 16:37Speaker 1: see a huge difference. No, that's that's the thing. A
- 16:39Speaker 1: lot of people don't think that there's a big difference
- 16:41Speaker 1: between ZAPPI and Mac. I still think there is. I
- 16:46Speaker 1: still think there is huge enough where Mac is the
- 16:50Speaker 1: clear starter. I don't think there's a huge chet for me.
- 16:54Speaker 1: It just comes down to a question of which one
- 16:56Speaker 1: of these guys gives you a chance to contend with
- 16:58Speaker 1: the best teams in the league. And I don't think
- 17:00Speaker 1: that that's Bail is Zappy. I think it might be
- 17:02Speaker 1: Mac Jones. I don't know it's Mac Jones, but I
- 17:04Speaker 1: think Mac Jones still has enough of a ceiling to
- 17:06Speaker 1: me that I would put him back in to find out.
- 17:09Speaker 1: And I think, you know Tamara's question of pushing the
- 17:12Speaker 1: ball down the field, that's where they're trying to get
- 17:13Speaker 1: to though. That's the element they're trying to add to
- 17:15Speaker 1: the offense with Mac. And I mean, I pulled, you know,
- 17:18Speaker 1: a bunch of numbers, and you know, it backs up
- 17:20Speaker 1: everything that we've been talking about, that Evan's been writing
- 17:22Speaker 1: about that you know, they're keeping it easy for him.
- 17:24Speaker 1: It's play action, it's screens, it's you know, no shooting
- 17:28Speaker 1: it down the field. That's what they were trying to
- 17:29Speaker 1: do with Max. So I think it goes to Tamara's
- 17:31Speaker 1: question of when Matt comes back, do they find a
- 17:34Speaker 1: happy medium ground between you know, Mac, you've got to
- 17:37Speaker 1: push the we gotta get the ball down the field.
- 17:39Speaker 1: We've got to put this in team's heads that we
- 17:41Speaker 1: want to do this, that we're going to be an
- 17:42Speaker 1: explosive offense and you know, and then we can build
- 17:44Speaker 1: from there. Or do they say, hey, you know, we
- 17:46Speaker 1: had some success with Zappy doing kind of what Mac
- 17:49Speaker 1: did last year. I mean, the people who call in
- 17:51Speaker 1: and Paul and I've been talking about it like it's
- 17:53Speaker 1: it's fairly comparable. It's not like, you know, there's anything
- 17:56Speaker 1: that you can point to that one guy's got way
- 17:58Speaker 1: miles ahead of the other guy. So, you know, can
- 18:01Speaker 1: they find that middle ground and can they get Mac
- 18:03Speaker 1: to stop making those big mistakes? And I think that's
- 18:06Speaker 1: you know, if they can do that and they can
- 18:07Speaker 1: find the middle ground, and yeah, we're still going to
- 18:09Speaker 1: push the ball down the field at times, but when
- 18:11Speaker 1: we when it's there and we're not forcing it, then
- 18:14Speaker 1: I think you might you might have something. But to me,
- 18:15Speaker 1: it's just like all this talk of that, it's like,
- 18:18Speaker 1: who's gonna help you beat Buffalo? Like, I don't really
- 18:21Speaker 1: think either one of these guys has what it takes
- 18:23Speaker 1: to really contend with Buffalo game in and game out
- 18:26Speaker 1: year after year. But I still think Mac has happened.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I think we're gonna learn a lot about Mac Jones
- 18:31Speaker 1: when he comes back in you know how he deals
- 18:33Speaker 1: with this because this is pressure. I mean, he's a
- 18:36Speaker 1: human being. He's watching these games. He has to feel
- 18:41Speaker 1: something about what he's seeing and a little bit of
- 18:44Speaker 1: pressure about I gotta be good when I come back.
- 18:47Speaker 1: He's got to be feeling that. And now we're going
- 18:49Speaker 1: to see how he deals with that. Well, I think
- 18:51Speaker 1: did you Sorry, I'm just gonna say, do you do
- 18:53Speaker 1: you guys give any credence to the Albert Breer little
- 18:56Speaker 1: nugget that came out yesterday? What was that? He's unhappy
- 18:59Speaker 1: that things have gotten quote a little sideways between Mac
- 19:02Speaker 1: and the team. Um, well, like what time frame, like
- 19:07Speaker 1: right now or like over the summer, over the off season,
- 19:11Speaker 1: over the off season. Yeah, with the decision maybe maybe,
- 19:15Speaker 1: but let's just say, let's just say that's true. Let's
- 19:18Speaker 1: just say, Matt question the whole thing. Why are you
- 19:20Speaker 1: making Matt Patricia, why are you making Joe Judge my
- 19:24Speaker 1: quarterback coach? Let's just say that's all true. Hed better
- 19:28Speaker 1: forget about that now. He better he better put that
- 19:31Speaker 1: behind him and and and get on board because you know,
- 19:37Speaker 1: we've seen like an alternative here. So he better like it,
- 19:41Speaker 1: better stop being sideways for him, and he better go
- 19:44Speaker 1: straight ahead, straight as an arrow, you know, get on
- 19:48Speaker 1: board now. I think mentally he's been in this similar
- 19:51Speaker 1: spot before, being behind Jalen Hurts and Tua Like. I
- 19:54Speaker 1: think that he he's been there, the guy watching someone
- 19:58Speaker 1: do great while he sit here and sits and waits
- 20:00Speaker 1: for his turn. Obviously this is a little bit different
- 20:02Speaker 1: because it was his turn and then he had to
- 20:04Speaker 1: come back a little bit, and you know, now he's
- 20:06Speaker 1: waiting to get back out there again. But I think
- 20:08Speaker 1: he has the mental toughness to come out there and
- 20:10Speaker 1: do it. But like when he gets out there, I
- 20:12Speaker 1: am wondering if the offense is going to be changed
- 20:15Speaker 1: a little bit to maybe not forces mini downfield throws
- 20:18Speaker 1: and maybe do a hybrid of what they're doing with
- 20:20Speaker 1: Bailey Zappy, do a little bit downfield but not making
- 20:23Speaker 1: up the entire game plan. Yeah. I think I think
- 20:25Speaker 1: he struck. And I think, you know, since he's gone, like,
- 20:28Speaker 1: what's happened since he's gone? Has the offensive line played
- 20:31Speaker 1: a little bit better? Yeah? Okay, has I don't really
- 20:35Speaker 1: think you don't think so. I think I think so.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I think they had one bad game, the first game
- 20:39Speaker 1: of the year. Yeah, okay, you know, has you know
- 20:44Speaker 1: Thornton's back, he wasn't there, you know before, Have the
- 20:47Speaker 1: tight ends started to play a little better? No, no,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I think to them. But I would argue it's almost
- 20:54Speaker 1: like a I mean, tight ends are like a safety net.
- 20:57Speaker 1: But we just had we just had Henry admit that
- 21:02Speaker 1: he'd been working through a shoulder injury and now he
- 21:04Speaker 1: feels good, he's blocking better. I mean I would say that, well,
- 21:06Speaker 1: maybe he's blocking better. I mean, I'm just talking about
- 21:08Speaker 1: ever that makes the offense better. You know, I'm not
- 21:11Speaker 1: talking when I talked about the tight ends. I mean,
- 21:13Speaker 1: let's face it, we're talking about their production of the pende.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna go getting they weren't getting targeted and now
- 21:18Speaker 1: they are. I mean, they're playing better. Or the quarterbacks
- 21:20Speaker 1: were born in Agalo hurt. I'm We're a little worried
- 21:24Speaker 1: about that. But I still think that Mac is going
- 21:26Speaker 1: to come back to an offense that was better, that's
- 21:28Speaker 1: better than when he left. You know, maybe it should
- 21:32Speaker 1: be because we're further down the season. Yeah yeah, I
- 21:35Speaker 1: mean sure, I just I mean I think kind of
- 21:38Speaker 1: going back to Tamara's point, Like, I think this is
- 21:40Speaker 1: kind of unique for Mac. I don't think he's ever
- 21:42Speaker 1: been a guy who has a been the incumbent starter
- 21:46Speaker 1: in a major college season or NFL season. Like this
- 21:49Speaker 1: is the first time he came in as a starter.
- 21:51Speaker 1: It's also the first time he's experienced a major injury.
- 21:53Speaker 1: It's also the first time he's now on the other
- 21:56Speaker 1: side of it now watching another guy go in who
- 21:59Speaker 1: was his back up yea, and play well ye where
- 22:02Speaker 1: you know so, And that's why like all these stories
- 22:04Speaker 1: about like Mac isn't I'm like, no offense, but like
- 22:07Speaker 1: you're not good enough to be Like this isn't working
- 22:09Speaker 1: for me right now after that rookie season, Like your
- 22:11Speaker 1: rookie season was fine, but like you you're telling me
- 22:15Speaker 1: now that you're like, I don't know about this, Bill Belichick,
- 22:17Speaker 1: Like I know, I know that I bowed down to
- 22:19Speaker 1: you this whole season and did everything you told me.
- 22:20Speaker 1: But I'm gonna I'm gonna go separate ways here on
- 22:23Speaker 1: this decision. So that's fine. If he is doing that,
- 22:25Speaker 1: then I think you're right. I think he needs to
- 22:27Speaker 1: get on the same page and realize, like the train
- 22:29Speaker 1: isn't gonna wait for anybody and your feelings about what
- 22:31Speaker 1: direction you think the offense should go. You're not there yet.
- 22:33Speaker 1: You're not Josh Allen. You do haven't had the kind
- 22:36Speaker 1: of seasons yet where you get to sit there and
- 22:37Speaker 1: say this is what I want, this is what I want,
- 22:39Speaker 1: this is how it should be. And we don't know
- 22:41Speaker 1: if that's the case, right, We don't why it seems
- 22:43Speaker 1: to me like, I'm just like, I don't really and
- 22:46Speaker 1: I just based that off of the kid that Mac
- 22:48Speaker 1: has been and I and I and I'm not even
- 22:49Speaker 1: saying that that this is how we should be, that
- 22:51Speaker 1: he should just be like, oh, yes whatever, oh yeah,
- 22:53Speaker 1: but that's what he kind of seems like to me.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I'm all for him questioning, I'm all for him giving input,
- 22:59Speaker 1: but at some point you say, okay, you know, now
- 23:02Speaker 1: we've got to play and this is what we've decided
- 23:05Speaker 1: to do, and I'm i gotta be on board, you know.
- 23:09Speaker 1: And I'm sure he hears, you know, all this stuff,
- 23:11Speaker 1: no matter where you fall on the spectrum of zappy
- 23:14Speaker 1: fever or any of this. Like, I'm sure he's he's
- 23:16Speaker 1: hearing it all. I don't know if he's the kind
- 23:18Speaker 1: of kid that can just turn everything off. I feel
- 23:21Speaker 1: like and these modern players are listening, and here's the reality.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Whether I like it or not, or whether you know
- 23:28Speaker 1: it's fair or not. When he comes back, he better
- 23:32Speaker 1: play well. He and it may not be fair, you know,
- 23:38Speaker 1: because in context and the circumstances could be different. Who knows,
- 23:42Speaker 1: you know, if he doesn't come back against Chicago, he
- 23:45Speaker 1: comes back against the Jets, that's a tougher game. Um,
- 23:48Speaker 1: so it may not be fair, but he better play well. Yeah,
- 23:52Speaker 1: that's what I wanted to ask. Do you think, I mean,
- 23:53Speaker 1: do you think that there's some motivation for the team
- 23:55Speaker 1: going against the Chicago offense to get him out there
- 23:58Speaker 1: and to get his feet wet and game that's probably
- 24:00Speaker 1: gonna be pretty tough to lose rather than maybe throwing
- 24:04Speaker 1: them into the fire against the Jets on the road
- 24:07Speaker 1: in his first human nature as it is, they have
- 24:09Speaker 1: to be thinking that, but they can't, you know what
- 24:11Speaker 1: I mean, Like they have to put that thought aside.
- 24:14Speaker 1: And just if he's not ready, he's not playing, I
- 24:17Speaker 1: think he must be pretty close. Because of Reportedly, they
- 24:21Speaker 1: didn't make the decision about Bailey until Saturday night. Reportedly
- 24:24Speaker 1: reportedly so that makes me think that he's that much closer.
- 24:30Speaker 1: But but that could all be part of the ruse.
- 24:32Speaker 1: You know, we're not going to tell even no, well, medically,
- 24:39Speaker 1: if the doctors say he shouldn't be traveling, you know,
- 24:41Speaker 1: because of air pressure and swelling, they wouldn't have put
- 24:45Speaker 1: him on the plane despite that. So I would think
- 24:47Speaker 1: the doctors. I would hope the doctor said he's okay
- 24:50Speaker 1: to fly. It's not going to hurt them. No, I'm
- 24:52Speaker 1: talking about play. Yeah, Like I think the swelling at
- 24:55Speaker 1: this point, I mean, we're four weeks out. I don't
- 24:57Speaker 1: think that's an issue. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know,
- 25:00Speaker 1: but they they thought he was well enough to travel,
- 25:03Speaker 1: which means something. You know. I mentioned the reports from
- 25:07Speaker 1: last week that I mean alleged that he was trying
- 25:10Speaker 1: to push to play last week too. I don't think
- 25:12Speaker 1: he was thinking. I don't think he was close on Sunday.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I'll I'll just say that I'm kind I kind of
- 25:16Speaker 1: agree with you because when he came out, we all
- 25:19Speaker 1: saw the warmups on Patriots dot com. He came out,
- 25:21Speaker 1: he didn't even really throw, he didn't even like do anything.
- 25:25Speaker 1: So like, well, they had already decided he wasn't playing.
- 25:27Speaker 1: But I but from what well to me was when
- 25:31Speaker 1: Garret Gilbert elevator from the practice squad on Saturday he
- 25:34Speaker 1: ain't playing tomorrow. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So like
- 25:38Speaker 1: they knew he wasn't gonna play, it was it probably
- 25:40Speaker 1: was a ruse. That's kind of that's why I asked him.
- 25:43Speaker 1: You think he's clear. Yeah, I kind of agree with you, Freddy. Yeah,
- 25:46Speaker 1: And I mean Joe Judge mentioned he's a captain. Having
- 25:48Speaker 1: him around was was good. So maybe that's if he
- 25:51Speaker 1: could be there, I'd rather have him there absolutely. I
- 25:53Speaker 1: mean Lawrence Guy traveled, yeah, Samon Harris too. Yeah, and
- 25:56Speaker 1: don't you think that it benefits to have him for
- 26:00Speaker 1: for Mac to be on the sideline? Yeah? Yeah, I
- 26:04Speaker 1: didn't watch the broadcast. Well also a practice, you know,
- 26:07Speaker 1: like I mean with the IR stuff. Sorry, you guys
- 26:09Speaker 1: watched the broadcast. They show Mac on the sideline a lot. Yeah,
- 26:12Speaker 1: I thought so they did. I thought at least on
- 26:14Speaker 1: two occasions I saw Mac with the tablet and Bailey
- 26:17Speaker 1: right next to each other. Seemed to be I don't know, well,
- 26:20Speaker 1: that's good. How many times the cherry pick that and
- 26:23Speaker 1: show you on the broadcast once. I remember seeing him,
- 26:25Speaker 1: But but I'm largely with you Fred on the bigger pitcher.
- 26:28Speaker 1: If Mac is healthy, it's his job still to me. Um.
- 26:32Speaker 1: But I just last week I was sort of um
- 26:37Speaker 1: more with with Evan in terms of it really isn't
- 26:41Speaker 1: a competition, This really isn't a conversation. He played at
- 26:45Speaker 1: a higher level Sunday than he did in the previous
- 26:48Speaker 1: Susie by a significant amount, and he was asked to
- 26:51Speaker 1: do more. And I know it was easy. I know
- 26:53Speaker 1: how bad the teams are that they're playing. They're the
- 26:56Speaker 1: same bad teams that Mac looked great against last year
- 26:58Speaker 1: and we all got excited about. So I'm not going
- 27:01Speaker 1: to pooh pooh it for one guy when I was
- 27:02Speaker 1: trumpeting it for for the other. I think it's apples
- 27:05Speaker 1: to apples. He played really well. I think it's a conversation. Now, yeah,
- 27:10Speaker 1: I think it's a conversation. But it's Max's job to lose. Like,
- 27:14Speaker 1: oh yeah, he goes out there and he's bad. Okay,
- 27:16Speaker 1: like a chance, but they got to give him a chance.
- 27:19Speaker 1: But also we don't have all day. Well it's just
- 27:25Speaker 1: I mean, it's not hard to see, you know, Bailey
- 27:27Speaker 1: Zappy get a start against the Bears, they probably roll again.
- 27:31Speaker 1: All Right, Max bready he's got to go to play
- 27:33Speaker 1: the Jets. And I mean, we know how our fan
- 27:35Speaker 1: base feels about the Jets. Like you know, I'm just saying,
- 27:39Speaker 1: like this is how it's lining up. I know that
- 27:41Speaker 1: Max's gonna have to probably go back into the Jets
- 27:44Speaker 1: and play, you know, a Jets team that looks better
- 27:47Speaker 1: than they've been in a game, divisional game that you
- 27:50Speaker 1: really kind of need. So it's you can see, oh,
- 27:54Speaker 1: Mac couldn't beat the Jets. Yeah, the Jets. Yeah, unlike
- 27:58Speaker 1: unlike the Browns of the Bear's, Jets have already played
- 28:01Speaker 1: Mac twice. They know him a little bit, they know
- 28:03Speaker 1: him a little better. Yeah, you know, so, I I
- 28:06Speaker 1: just say it may not be fair, but that's the reality.
- 28:09Speaker 1: And it's easy just to sit there and go. When
- 28:11Speaker 1: he's healthy, he'll play and not you know, really consider
- 28:14Speaker 1: who the teams are, what you're throwing him into. Is
- 28:17Speaker 1: it worth putting eighty five ninety percent Mac in against
- 28:22Speaker 1: the Bears to get get it going and get him
- 28:24Speaker 1: a win and get some positive energy rolling with him
- 28:26Speaker 1: again before you go into the Jets. I feel like
- 28:30Speaker 1: if I'm not going to that doesn't have anything. I'm
- 28:34Speaker 1: with you on it. Yeah, to me, it's all about
- 28:36Speaker 1: his ankle. Do you do you mean ready and eighty
- 28:37Speaker 1: five percent or like ready he has to be able
- 28:41Speaker 1: to move around to avoid pressure. If he's ready, ready
- 28:44Speaker 1: to play, I don't care what the percentage is. Yeah,
- 28:47Speaker 1: he should play. I'm not playing him because they're playing
- 28:49Speaker 1: a bad team, right and that and I'm not making
- 28:52Speaker 1: fun of you might because that's what everybody else. Thanks,
- 28:56Speaker 1: And we just talked about it to film All Access
- 28:59Speaker 1: and I was alone. I was like, no, if he's
- 29:01Speaker 1: ready to play, sure, play him, but I'm not gonna. Yeah,
- 29:04Speaker 1: I'm not rushing him back because I want to softly.
- 29:06Speaker 1: A matter of fact, I think you could make a
- 29:08Speaker 1: good argument for the soft landing is on the road
- 29:11Speaker 1: in case he goes three and out early. Yeah. You
- 29:14Speaker 1: know how these guys get They don't cheer for anything
- 29:17Speaker 1: good happening, but if something bad happens, like you'd think
- 29:21Speaker 1: that it didn't win six titles in the last shot fire.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean how many times did Brady get
- 29:27Speaker 1: booted off the field? I mean on the rare occasions
- 29:29Speaker 1: when they didn't play well offensively. Yeah, right, good thing
- 29:33Speaker 1: that wasn't Bailey's happy around back then? So what else? Okay,
- 29:38Speaker 1: So that's it's all on the table. It's on the table.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I'm sure everybody wants to talk about that particular subject. Yeah,
- 29:46Speaker 1: I just would say that my feeling is that I
- 29:49Speaker 1: don't I don't see a great I think Mac is
- 29:51Speaker 1: the better option, but basically I feel that way because
- 29:55Speaker 1: he's so much further along in the process, not because
- 29:58Speaker 1: I think his skill set is demonstratively better than Zappi's.
- 30:02Speaker 1: It's better, he's a little bigger, he's a little stronger.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I don't think that he does a lot of things
- 30:08Speaker 1: that Bailey Zappy can't do. Yeah, do you? I don't know.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I'm totally with you. And that's and that's why it
- 30:15Speaker 1: just comes down to me, like who's who's the ceiling.
- 30:17Speaker 1: I'll tell you what the greatest thing is going to
- 30:19Speaker 1: be is our training camp podcast next year? Oh yeah,
- 30:25Speaker 1: well it all depends on how this season ends. Yeah,
- 30:28Speaker 1: but yeah, I mean you could potentially have, whether we
- 30:32Speaker 1: make it up or not, a QB competition in camp.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I know, I just the afternoon soaps on now today,
- 30:39Speaker 1: there we go. Yeah, I miss I missed my afternoon soaps.
- 30:43Speaker 1: It's been a long time, yes, Tamara, heavy sigh days,
- 30:49Speaker 1: heavy sigh um about my soap opera vieing. No, because
- 30:54Speaker 1: my grandma's probably homewatching this right now. Probably what you
- 30:58Speaker 1: call them her programs or her shows. My grandma calls
- 31:02Speaker 1: them her stories. Oh that's what she says. I'll call her,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and she's like, I'm watching my stories. Like do you
- 31:08Speaker 1: need something? Like, I'm not more important than her stories.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I'm just I'm torn because I'm just like I would
- 31:17Speaker 1: like to see him go back out there. But like
- 31:20Speaker 1: if he's like doing a fast limp for a walk
- 31:23Speaker 1: for a run, no I don't want I don't want
- 31:25Speaker 1: to play. And if he can't play, no, yeah, just
- 31:28Speaker 1: because he feels the pressure to get his job back
- 31:30Speaker 1: because or secure his job, or if like you see
- 31:32Speaker 1: him running and he's like wincing as he's running, I
- 31:35Speaker 1: don't want it. But like, do you a point, Mike
- 31:37Speaker 1: went about ten minutes ago. You brought up like the
- 31:39Speaker 1: differences in the way they're playing and what they were
- 31:41Speaker 1: asked to do, and like the reason why I would
- 31:47Speaker 1: lean to Mac is I don't believe that you can
- 31:50Speaker 1: beat good teams playing offense the way they've played it
- 31:52Speaker 1: the last few weeks. UM, So I think you need
- 31:56Speaker 1: to continue to do what they were trying, and you
- 31:58Speaker 1: need to succeed at it, and Mac gives you a
- 32:01Speaker 1: better chance to succeed with the greater breath of you know,
- 32:06Speaker 1: offense at his disposal. And that's why I'm not ready.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I'm not ready to just like you guys know, I've
- 32:12Speaker 1: never been Mac is the future. He's the guy no
- 32:16Speaker 1: way can't miss. Kid. I've never been that guy with
- 32:18Speaker 1: Mac Jones, but he's some people who were are just
- 32:21Speaker 1: like already. But I was also like viscerated for feeling
- 32:26Speaker 1: that I didn't think he was necessarily a lock to
- 32:29Speaker 1: be the franchise quarterback on this show. I took a
- 32:32Speaker 1: lot of heat for that. Now all of a sudden,
- 32:34Speaker 1: no one thinks Mac Jones is the future. Everybody thinks
- 32:37Speaker 1: it's Bailey's appy, And I was like, but wait a minute.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Last year, all I was told was pro Bowl, led
- 32:43Speaker 1: the team to the playoffs. This is the best best rookie.
- 32:47Speaker 1: If they had to draft the rookies over again, he'd
- 32:49Speaker 1: be the number one guy. And you're just a hater.
- 32:53Speaker 1: That's what I heard all last year. Right now, it's
- 32:56Speaker 1: Bailey's appy, right, and I got killed. You know, I
- 32:59Speaker 1: had the dacity to say I'd take Trevor Lawrence, and
- 33:02Speaker 1: people killed me for that. I remember, I remembering what
- 33:05Speaker 1: people killed you for saying that. Oh. Absolutely, Oh I
- 33:08Speaker 1: would pick Trevor Lawrence today of course before So I
- 33:12Speaker 1: right now I actually watch and and and people think
- 33:16Speaker 1: that's me knocking Mac. No. I really think Trevor Lawrence
- 33:19Speaker 1: is really good. Yea, I think he's been wasted. Yes,
- 33:22Speaker 1: Jacksonville is you know, you could see it now how
- 33:25Speaker 1: much better he is played. He I mean, he's had
- 33:27Speaker 1: some bad games too, but he's played pretty well. Yes,
- 33:30Speaker 1: this year. One of the I want to say to
- 33:32Speaker 1: your point, Paul two is I know earlier I said,
- 33:34Speaker 1: like I lean Mac maybe because his ceiling is better.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Like I don't even know if I really believe that.
- 33:38Speaker 1: I just feel like they're similar quarterbacks. But Mac just
- 33:40Speaker 1: has more experience. He's got, that's he's seen more, Like
- 33:43Speaker 1: I don't even I don't even want to sit here
- 33:45Speaker 1: and tell you like I believe one hundred percent that
- 33:47Speaker 1: Mac has. You know, his ceiling is way beyond Zappy's
- 33:50Speaker 1: I don't really know, like I could see and I'll
- 33:52Speaker 1: come where Hey, let's start pushing the ball down the
- 33:54Speaker 1: field with Zappy into you know, similar kind of things.
- 33:56Speaker 1: But I just think you've invested time into Mac. He
- 33:59Speaker 1: probably had has more capability at the line of scrimmage too,
- 34:01Speaker 1: to you know, get him out of some bad looks.
- 34:03Speaker 1: That that that I have no idea. I think, you know, Leman,
- 34:06Speaker 1: at least's experience, it seemed like he's changed. He changes
- 34:08Speaker 1: plays a little bit more. But but that's that's it.
- 34:11Speaker 1: It's you're I mean, you're splitting hand. I'm with you know,
- 34:14Speaker 1: and I would also, I'll like, I'll account for the
- 34:17Speaker 1: fact that sometimes a guy has better physical skills and
- 34:20Speaker 1: Mac Jones I think has better physical skills than Baileys. He's,
- 34:23Speaker 1: like I said, he's a little bigger, a little stronger, um,
- 34:27Speaker 1: But that doesn't necessarily make him better because sometimes guys
- 34:30Speaker 1: just have like these innate game has it. Yeah, but
- 34:35Speaker 1: he has just like in an eate like gamer kind
- 34:37Speaker 1: of mentality. And I think you've seen that a little
- 34:40Speaker 1: bit with with Zappie in the pocket especially. I thought
- 34:43Speaker 1: on on Sunday, there was a couple of times where
- 34:46Speaker 1: I thought he bought time, climbed the pocket and moved
- 34:49Speaker 1: around different arm angles and stuff where I feel like
- 34:52Speaker 1: Mac Jones is one of those guys. It's got to
- 34:54Speaker 1: be right, you know, I gotta I gotta get the protection,
- 34:57Speaker 1: I gotta step, throw and bang. Then I have no
- 34:59Speaker 1: proble album with with his accuracy or anything like that.
- 35:02Speaker 1: I think Zappy looks like he can go quote unquote
- 35:06Speaker 1: off platform a little bit more. But does that make
- 35:10Speaker 1: up for the lack of experience, Like, yeah, I think
- 35:13Speaker 1: that just the fact that it's a conversation. I think
- 35:15Speaker 1: it's fascinating. It really is surprising. It really is fascinating.
- 35:19Speaker 1: I said Paul too. I mean we maybe not me
- 35:22Speaker 1: as much as him, but neither one of us were
- 35:24Speaker 1: like Max Stands like we kind of were waiting to
- 35:26Speaker 1: see it. But and now I don't really feel like
- 35:28Speaker 1: I have a horse in the race. I just kind
- 35:30Speaker 1: of want what's just want to win team, I just
- 35:32Speaker 1: want to win. I just want to be Buffalo, which
- 35:34Speaker 1: one of these guys. I don't care. Let's go. It's like,
- 35:39Speaker 1: see's the word stand? Yeah? What what? No comment? I missed? It?
- 35:46Speaker 1: Is that another one of those things that the the old.
- 35:48Speaker 1: The olds don't get the young people. How old were
- 35:53Speaker 1: you when Eminem came out? Six? Okay, all right, real
- 36:02Speaker 1: real quick before we take the calls, because I am
- 36:05Speaker 1: I'm really interested. I might actually do a tally today, Fred, Yeah,
- 36:08Speaker 1: I want to for for and again. Yeah, I'm gonna
- 36:12Speaker 1: keep track today fur Mac or again as you like
- 36:15Speaker 1: to say. Um. But we had a little um back
- 36:20Speaker 1: and forth on All Access, Um, Mike Rees and I
- 36:24Speaker 1: with Steve Burton, and you know, Mike made a comment
- 36:27Speaker 1: in the middle of saying, you know, if you know,
- 36:31Speaker 1: so far everything has gone, you know, according to script
- 36:35Speaker 1: for Bailey Zappy, he's had very little game pressure. Totally
- 36:39Speaker 1: agree with him, uh, you know, and he was like,
- 36:42Speaker 1: you know, but what happens if they face some adversity
- 36:44Speaker 1: in a game and they fall behind and they have
- 36:46Speaker 1: to do it a different way? Um, how do you
- 36:49Speaker 1: feel then? And I just sort of snap back. I said,
- 36:52Speaker 1: I don't feel any differently about Bailey Zappy in that
- 36:54Speaker 1: situation that I do about Mac Jones, because Mac Jones
- 36:58Speaker 1: as yet to show me that he can do that. Yep.
- 37:01Speaker 1: And we kind of went back and forth. He disagreed
- 37:03Speaker 1: a little like if you feel better down fourteen and
- 37:06Speaker 1: the third quarter. With Mac Jones, it's simply because he's
- 37:08Speaker 1: played more games, not because he's you know, rallied from
- 37:12Speaker 1: that spot against any any team of significance, because they
- 37:15Speaker 1: have it. So that's I think it's interesting how when
- 37:20Speaker 1: when you when you look at it like they're there
- 37:22Speaker 1: are Mac people and there are Zappi people in there's
- 37:26Speaker 1: no nuance and like with everything with this stuff, it's
- 37:30Speaker 1: all new. I yeah, it's all new. You can't like
- 37:32Speaker 1: Mac without saying Zappy's bad, and you can't like Zappy
- 37:35Speaker 1: without saying Ma's bad. That's seems to be the way
- 37:38Speaker 1: it is. And then so similar. Yeah, well that's my
- 37:41Speaker 1: point is I don't think it's necessarily saying one's good
- 37:44Speaker 1: ones bad, but I think they're kind of both. Okay,
- 37:48Speaker 1: they're both. That's like why it kind of goes back
- 37:50Speaker 1: to what we were talking about in training camp, were like,
- 37:53Speaker 1: this was supposed to be the year where we learn
- 37:55Speaker 1: is Mac a quarterback that can win us a game?
- 37:57Speaker 1: Or is Mac a quarterback that's not going to lose
- 37:59Speaker 1: us a game? And we didn't get that answer. And
- 38:02Speaker 1: the two weeks before he got hurt and now we're
- 38:04Speaker 1: just like. Now, let's try with Billy. I always say
- 38:09Speaker 1: I'm finding myself going to Paul's thing a lot of
- 38:11Speaker 1: like I can't tell people to change how they feel
- 38:13Speaker 1: because I can't tell you, can't tell you how you're
- 38:15Speaker 1: supposed to. I just I just feel like Billy Zappy's
- 38:18Speaker 1: a winner, and I like them more. I can't do
- 38:21Speaker 1: anything for I can't do anything for you. Right, you
- 38:24Speaker 1: feel the way you feel? All right? Eight five five passive.
- 38:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna sit up a chart right now, Freddy,
- 38:29Speaker 1: here we go. All right, and this is this is
- 38:31Speaker 1: in relation to so, so regardless of what you are
- 38:34Speaker 1: calling about, that's fine. We can talk about that. But
- 38:37Speaker 1: way in on on Paul's little thing, all right? Eight
- 38:41Speaker 1: five Paul's pole, Yeah, Paul. Can we just leave Paul
- 38:47Speaker 1: Paul's little Paul? Can we leave my thing in my
- 38:49Speaker 1: pole out of this conversation? Please? Yeah? Keep Paul off.
- 38:52Speaker 1: My goodness, no one wants to see Paul on the pole?
- 38:55Speaker 1: Where's Andy Hart? When anyone? Five five pats five time
- 39:00Speaker 1: room eight five five past five hundred web radio at
- 39:03Speaker 1: pages dot com. It's email address. Let's go to Jim
- 39:06Speaker 1: in New Haven. What's up, Jim? Hey Fred, how are
- 39:10Speaker 1: you doing? I love the show, Thank you. I just
- 39:13Speaker 1: wanted to have I got a couple of comments on
- 39:15Speaker 1: a point of one thing about Um, remember we were
- 39:18Speaker 1: talking about Dan Campbell and Bill Belichick not talking about
- 39:21Speaker 1: well coached when you mentioned that, Kweeza, Um, what do
- 39:24Speaker 1: you think about when check talks about the best coaches
- 39:27Speaker 1: like George Hollis and Paul Brown. Doesn't seem like he
- 39:31Speaker 1: really mentions Don Chula like you think that maybe he
- 39:33Speaker 1: does not a big fan of his. Well, Vince Lombardo, Yes, right,
- 39:36Speaker 1: wasn't Belichick? Yeah he did. He said some mean things
- 39:40Speaker 1: around Spygate. I believe he calls him Belichi. Yeah so yeah,
- 39:44Speaker 1: but but but the lack of respect happened a lot
- 39:47Speaker 1: before that. Yeah, with I mean, don't forget Belichick and Schula.
- 39:51Speaker 1: We're in the league at the same time. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 39:54Speaker 1: what was them party? Yeah, he don't think much of Lombardi,
- 39:57Speaker 1: he can tell. Yeah, you could just tell mission now.
- 40:00Speaker 1: He did mention coach Lombardi Green Bay Week, you know
- 40:03Speaker 1: when he mentioned the aura of but it was varied.
- 40:06Speaker 1: It was mostly Curly Rambo and Don Hudson. Yeah, but
- 40:11Speaker 1: you know, that's a good observation, Jim. He leaves those
- 40:14Speaker 1: two illuminaries out usually when he's talking about the great coaches.
- 40:20Speaker 1: The other comment I have is it's okay, um I
- 40:22Speaker 1: was talking about I called a couple of weeks ago
- 40:25Speaker 1: or last week and the first time Fallow a long
- 40:27Speaker 1: time Peach fan, and I unt you remember I stuck
- 40:30Speaker 1: up a little bit or defended Zappy a little bit
- 40:33Speaker 1: in the way of not against Mac Jones. But um,
- 40:36Speaker 1: I just said that I thought through a tight spiral
- 40:39Speaker 1: in the Green Bay game, and then the next game,
- 40:41Speaker 1: I do like food drop a little bit. So I
- 40:43Speaker 1: was kind of like he was being a little harsh
- 40:45Speaker 1: on Zappy. But Paul saved the day with his snarkiness
- 40:49Speaker 1: when Evan said something about about a Mac Jones intercept
- 40:54Speaker 1: and how there was a bad play design and then
- 40:56Speaker 1: Ball said, you can't go to balls to the other team, right,
- 41:02Speaker 1: But it's just like, I don't think any play is
- 41:05Speaker 1: designed to throw it to the other Yeah, that was
- 41:07Speaker 1: one of my favorite comments. It's like, this is my
- 41:09Speaker 1: whole point, So I'm gonna put him in the against
- 41:12Speaker 1: Mac for Bailey Zappy. Is that is that accurate? Jim
- 41:17Speaker 1: I'm sorry, So you're four Zappy. Well that I guess
- 41:20Speaker 1: if I want to be truthful, you know, I I
- 41:24Speaker 1: just saw Zappy things that I like. Yeah, and to me,
- 41:28Speaker 1: it takes to me. I think it takes like two
- 41:31Speaker 1: years to see if a quarter back really is good.
- 41:32Speaker 1: So I'm not minus replus. But I had to say
- 41:36Speaker 1: I had to defend them because I thought everybody was
- 41:38Speaker 1: being harsh on Zappy for no reason on the show.
- 41:40Speaker 1: I was a little bit surprised. So yeah, you know,
- 41:42Speaker 1: I hated to call in on that point first time
- 41:45Speaker 1: because I love the show. I love everything about it,
- 41:47Speaker 1: all right, Yeah, no, I appreciate it. I appreciate it.
- 41:50Speaker 1: But I did kind of like that that comment, and
- 41:53Speaker 1: Jim reminded me of like, oh, that was a poor
- 41:55Speaker 1: play design, you know, in the midst of you know,
- 41:57Speaker 1: it's time that we owe we owe the offensive coaches
- 41:59Speaker 1: and apology, you know, because we thought there might be
- 42:01Speaker 1: some problems with play designs and you know, yeah and such.
- 42:06Speaker 1: But again, I'll say I'll say this again. Early in
- 42:10Speaker 1: the game the other day, they sent DeVante Parker down
- 42:14Speaker 1: the sideline. There were two guys around him and Bailey
- 42:16Speaker 1: Zappy threw a ball up in Parker went up and
- 42:18Speaker 1: made a high point catch in traffic, which was to
- 42:21Speaker 1: me the very definition of a fifty fifty ball. Right,
- 42:24Speaker 1: you don't have to throw it to the other team,
- 42:26Speaker 1: because it's a fifty fifty ball a matter of fact,
- 42:28Speaker 1: you don't have to throw it at all. You can
- 42:31Speaker 1: throw it wherever you want. Maybe you could throw it
- 42:33Speaker 1: to the tight end who's wide open. Like so like,
- 42:36Speaker 1: I just think there's so much just like no, no, no,
- 42:39Speaker 1: it's Mac. Well why is it Mac? Because Mack's better? Okay? Well,
- 42:43Speaker 1: and also as so as you have, like, you know,
- 42:44Speaker 1: great reasoning. You and Jim said, you know, I see
- 42:47Speaker 1: I saw some things in Zappy that I like. Well,
- 42:50Speaker 1: I think we all saw things in Mac last year
- 42:52Speaker 1: that we liked. Yeah, you know, similar things processing and
- 42:55Speaker 1: you know, some pocket of awareness. I mean, I like
- 42:59Speaker 1: paulse point though about Zappy having a little bit of
- 43:02Speaker 1: athletic system to get out. I mean, I just I
- 43:04Speaker 1: think that might be an area where he might be
- 43:06Speaker 1: a little bit better just on his feet, not nothing.
- 43:08Speaker 1: He looked a little bit like Jimmy Garoppolo back there.
- 43:10Speaker 1: You know, Garoppolo, you know, I had some good escapability,
- 43:14Speaker 1: but if you tell me that Bailey zappy, can you
- 43:17Speaker 1: know is oh man, he's really grasping things and we're
- 43:21Speaker 1: excited about where he's going and stuff. Then Okay, like
- 43:24Speaker 1: I don't care, you know, but I just I still
- 43:27Speaker 1: think it's Mac. I still think he's the one, and
- 43:29Speaker 1: he's going to get another shot boughtomte and the power
- 43:31Speaker 1: before to play three of them. Wayne in Boston, what's up, Dwayne? Hello?
- 43:38Speaker 1: You guys see me? Okay, yeah, yes, loud and clear. Perfect.
- 43:42Speaker 1: First of all, I am following too that he's so Paul,
- 43:45Speaker 1: you can go ahead and write that down. I got
- 43:47Speaker 1: got you, got you, Dwayne. I have seen twenty two
- 43:50Speaker 1: one games of Matt Jones and he's only had one
- 43:54Speaker 1: game winning driving nest against Houston. And if houston starting
- 43:57Speaker 1: quarterback wasn't the pervert, he probably wouldn't even had that one.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I don't know what there is to look forward to,
- 44:03Speaker 1: incons Okay, can you guys tell me something that you
- 44:10Speaker 1: would actually look forward to with Mac Jones other than experience?
- 44:13Speaker 1: I heard you guys laughing. Clear, experience counts for something.
- 44:18Speaker 1: So here's what I basically you're saying, Dwayne, that you
- 44:20Speaker 1: think that Bailey Zappy. This is just the beginning, and
- 44:22Speaker 1: he's going to ascend to a higher level. I have
- 44:27Speaker 1: seen I see something in Bailey Zappy. I have seen
- 44:32Speaker 1: enough from Mac Jones to know that I don't need
- 44:35Speaker 1: to see anything else. He played two one games and
- 44:37Speaker 1: was taken enough to building tears. I mean, honestly they
- 44:40Speaker 1: could trade him. Wow, going for the joy. So I'm
- 44:45Speaker 1: going to put him down as I'm only going to
- 44:47Speaker 1: count him as one against. But that was significant five.
- 44:52Speaker 1: I love it so. But it's a fair question, what
- 44:54Speaker 1: are you looking forward to in Mac? And for me,
- 44:57Speaker 1: the answer is this rebral part of the game that
- 45:01Speaker 1: I'm being told that he's really good at him taking
- 45:04Speaker 1: that and making the jump, making the progression using that
- 45:10Speaker 1: and knowing the game better and making better decisions down
- 45:12Speaker 1: the road. You know. That's that's what I think I'm
- 45:16Speaker 1: looking forward to with him. I mean, I think that's good.
- 45:20Speaker 1: I would just downfield throws like explosive plays like we've
- 45:23Speaker 1: seen some of them. He's made some good throws down
- 45:25Speaker 1: the field. I've never I haven't seen Bailey z Appy
- 45:27Speaker 1: make those throws even in practice. They have been inconsistent
- 45:30Speaker 1: with Mac. But I think there's been a desire to
- 45:32Speaker 1: push it, and I wouldn't don't think they would try
- 45:34Speaker 1: to push it if they didn't think he could do it.
- 45:35Speaker 1: And that's what I think you have to find out
- 45:37Speaker 1: with Mac. And I would say the same thing about
- 45:39Speaker 1: Bailey Zappy if if they were to start him. We
- 45:41Speaker 1: got to find out if this guy can challenge all
- 45:43Speaker 1: points of the field or is he just going to
- 45:44Speaker 1: be what we live last year with Mac, which is
- 45:47Speaker 1: take the right, make the right read six yards six
- 45:50Speaker 1: yards a pop, and you know, again, like that's just
- 45:52Speaker 1: what's crazy. I'm just trying to go down the field
- 45:54Speaker 1: and people have been complaining so long about dink and
- 45:56Speaker 1: dunk and short passing, and now everybody sees a little
- 45:58Speaker 1: more short passing. That's seven percent completion rate, and they're like,
- 46:01Speaker 1: let's just go back to that. Let's just go to
- 46:04Speaker 1: so much of the quarterback game is decision making, sure,
- 46:07Speaker 1: you know, And that's what we're told that Max's superpower is,
- 46:11Speaker 1: you know. But Zappie has got a reputation for being
- 46:13Speaker 1: an excellent at that too. Yeah, and he's and he's
- 46:16Speaker 1: done it the last couple of games, Like, I think
- 46:18Speaker 1: the decisions have been good and if you're going to
- 46:20Speaker 1: compare this year to this year with Mac and him,
- 46:22Speaker 1: like some of Max throws not. I do feel bad
- 46:25Speaker 1: a little bit for Mac in that you know, he
- 46:28Speaker 1: comes out and plays you know, Miami. Pittsburgh's personnel on
- 46:33Speaker 1: defense is far better than you know, Detroit's, you know,
- 46:36Speaker 1: as an example, and then you know, he plays Baltimore
- 46:40Speaker 1: and then he follow that up with he plays Detroit
- 46:44Speaker 1: and Cleveland, which what are they thirty two in twenty
- 46:48Speaker 1: nine in Dvoa or something ridiculous like that, Like literally
- 46:52Speaker 1: the very worst of the worst defense is in football. Yeah,
- 46:56Speaker 1: you know, like I know, when you when you make
- 46:59Speaker 1: the those kinds of excuses, you sound like, yeah, you're
- 47:02Speaker 1: just you sound like you're making making excuses for the
- 47:05Speaker 1: guy that you like. I don't really have a like
- 47:07Speaker 1: a dog in this way. I'm content to watch either
- 47:11Speaker 1: one of them play. I'm trying to figure out if
- 47:13Speaker 1: I notice a difference between either one of them. I
- 47:15Speaker 1: think it's even better when you remove all contexts and
- 47:17Speaker 1: you're like, so Mac lost at Miami in Pittsburgh, like
- 47:22Speaker 1: I went in in Pittsburgh, you know, strit some struggles
- 47:25Speaker 1: there Baltimore, and then Zappy got to play Cleveland, Detroit,
- 47:30Speaker 1: the Bears, Like you are like, like, I know that's
- 47:33Speaker 1: in context. It's like you feel like, well, these defenses
- 47:35Speaker 1: are really but you know, there were there were some
- 47:37Speaker 1: elements to worry about a little bit with Detroit and
- 47:40Speaker 1: with Cleveland going in like not traditional defense about you know,
- 47:44Speaker 1: but overall it's like just go to the teams that
- 47:47Speaker 1: they played, like that's that kind of says a lot too.
- 47:49Speaker 1: But there's a there's a stat um if you look
- 47:52Speaker 1: at the Jesus Site with the standings they keep track
- 47:56Speaker 1: of like the strength of victory in the straight of schedule,
- 48:01Speaker 1: and the numbers of the Patriots are like absurd, Like
- 48:05Speaker 1: their strength of victory it was like two ninety four.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Like there's only like two teams in football that have
- 48:11Speaker 1: worse than like those teams have like one win. You know,
- 48:14Speaker 1: it's like they've beaten bad football teams so far. And
- 48:19Speaker 1: by the way, that's what they did last year. Yeah,
- 48:23Speaker 1: except for San Diego. I'm not saying I mean the Chargers.
- 48:26Speaker 1: That was a good win. It's a good win. That
- 48:28Speaker 1: was Yeah, that was probably their best win a nine
- 48:31Speaker 1: and eight non playoff team. That's my point. Yeah, let's
- 48:35Speaker 1: go to Patty and agawam, hey Patty, Hey, how's everyone
- 48:38Speaker 1: doing this afternoon? Okay, Patty, enough with the pleasant treat.
- 48:41Speaker 1: So do you get your choice? Come to the head
- 48:45Speaker 1: Macker zappy, no go, no going back. I think um,
- 48:49Speaker 1: I was on the record last week saying I was
- 48:51Speaker 1: a team McClellan, but uh, I'm open to whatever. You know, like,
- 48:59Speaker 1: just it counts one either way. That's a form McClellan,
- 49:02Speaker 1: even though this is not a very passionate defense. But
- 49:07Speaker 1: mcle I mean you brought up, you brought up a
- 49:09Speaker 1: good point on the postgame show. I forgot who called him,
- 49:12Speaker 1: but you know they said if Max plays, if Mack
- 49:15Speaker 1: is healthy coming into this week, does he play or
- 49:20Speaker 1: Gigan must start. I think you do. And just I
- 49:22Speaker 1: mean if he's not, if he doesn't look good against
- 49:25Speaker 1: the Bears, who are are horrific team all around and
- 49:28Speaker 1: not that great on defense, I mean other than Roquan Smith,
- 49:31Speaker 1: I can't name another player on the defense. Um, I
- 49:35Speaker 1: think you might. I think you might have to make
- 49:37Speaker 1: the change to Bailey. And the big positive, the big
- 49:40Speaker 1: picture positive on this is you've got two quarterbacks that
- 49:43Speaker 1: look like they can play in the NFL. So one
- 49:45Speaker 1: of them. You might spend a year or two. You
- 49:47Speaker 1: might get some good trade calls on him for like
- 49:50Speaker 1: maybe a second round pick like they got with Gruffalo.
- 49:52Speaker 1: No chance for you're getting a second round pick for
- 49:56Speaker 1: Bailey's at You're not Fred, You're not well. I mean
- 50:01Speaker 1: they picked him in the fourth you know, Yeah, and
- 50:04Speaker 1: now that would be the best you could hope for. Yeah,
- 50:07Speaker 1: I don't know. Um, if I was another team, I
- 50:10Speaker 1: need to see more. But here's the the you know,
- 50:13Speaker 1: here's another part of like sometimes like it's like the
- 50:15Speaker 1: spot in the fortune. Like, so if Mac doesn't look
- 50:19Speaker 1: good against Chicago, well, Max, the next game that Mac
- 50:22Speaker 1: plays is going to be after a month of doing
- 50:23Speaker 1: nothing right, and if he doesn't play well, he's gonna lose.
- 50:26Speaker 1: It's something like, it's not it's just play. And again
- 50:30Speaker 1: I sound like I'm an apologist for Mac. I'm not
- 50:32Speaker 1: being an apologist. I like, I'm not over the top
- 50:37Speaker 1: passionate defense of Mac. But it's not really like if
- 50:40Speaker 1: he goes out there and what you mean if they
- 50:42Speaker 1: score like ten points in the first half, Oh wait,
- 50:45Speaker 1: that's what they just did this week, right right? When
- 50:48Speaker 1: you perform as you know, a science experiment, like all
- 50:51Speaker 1: the conditions I have to be, you know, a certain
- 50:55Speaker 1: way in order to get a true result. How about this,
- 50:58Speaker 1: and how about they play the possible? How about they
- 51:00Speaker 1: played the Bears on Monday night and for some fluke
- 51:02Speaker 1: of all flukes, the Bears offense doesn't turn it over
- 51:05Speaker 1: right and if once to go eighty five yards for
- 51:08Speaker 1: all their scores as opposed to take it over from
- 51:11Speaker 1: the eight yard line right like Bailey's appy does every
- 51:13Speaker 1: other possession. I wonder, so if Mac does start on Monday,
- 51:18Speaker 1: are they going to put the training wheels back on
- 51:20Speaker 1: just to see what he does? Yeah, instead of going
- 51:23Speaker 1: back to what they were trying to do when he
- 51:25Speaker 1: was in there. That's I think that's what I'm looking for.
- 51:27Speaker 1: And then also or maybe they do a hybrid of doing,
- 51:30Speaker 1: like maybe put the training wheels on for the first
- 51:32Speaker 1: couple of drives and see what happens, and then they can,
- 51:34Speaker 1: you know, go back to what they were trying to
- 51:36Speaker 1: install them. And then let's just say they do put
- 51:38Speaker 1: the training wheels on, then we'll come out of it, go, well,
- 51:40Speaker 1: that wasn't a true test for Mac. We learned nothing. Yeah,
- 51:43Speaker 1: you know, Yeah, Mike completed what if what if they
- 51:46Speaker 1: play what if they play Mac in the first and
- 51:49Speaker 1: third quard, right, and then they got a Baileys. You
- 51:55Speaker 1: put in Mac first and second down, you bring in
- 51:58Speaker 1: Bailey actual ability. Yeah, come Bailey comes out for third down.
- 52:05Speaker 1: I would not I would not want to see the
- 52:07Speaker 1: Boston Max. You know, I would not want to see that.
- 52:10Speaker 1: If Max's gonna start, he needs put the whole game.
- 52:13Speaker 1: If you can, like, I like babe. Yeah, a mess.
- 52:20Speaker 1: It's like Zappy. It just makes you happy to say it.
- 52:24Speaker 1: Two quiet, Yeah, completion, bro. You know he's leading the
- 52:29Speaker 1: league and rating. You don't know that I can I
- 52:31Speaker 1: wrap up. I just doesn't. He just doesn't have enough attempts.
- 52:34Speaker 1: And I rad a lost some Zappy stats real quick.
- 52:35Speaker 1: I just thought they were interesting. Um, eighteen point four
- 52:38Speaker 1: screen percent second highest, uh six point seven, average depth
- 52:42Speaker 1: of target fourth lowest eight point six deep one percentage
- 52:45Speaker 1: six lowest zero big time throws someone seventy one point
- 52:48Speaker 1: six dropbacks are play actions. Someone swallowed Greg Borgards. So yeah,
- 52:52Speaker 1: is that it is that? What he wrote to I
- 52:55Speaker 1: was actually I lifted this. I should give credit. Actually
- 52:57Speaker 1: I lifted from Dug Kite. So um, but yeah, I
- 53:00Speaker 1: just I think it's just all reinforces like they're they're
- 53:03Speaker 1: they're doing what they did with Mac last year with him.
- 53:05Speaker 1: That's why it looks the same. And this is where
- 53:08Speaker 1: I go back to my whole theory about his rookie year.
- 53:13Speaker 1: Verse Like Peyton Manning's rookie year, Peyton Manning was allowed
- 53:16Speaker 1: to make stakes his rookie year, and he made a
- 53:18Speaker 1: lot of him. He had more interceptions than he did touchdowns.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Mac wasn't allowed to make mistakes. This year he is
- 53:23Speaker 1: and now oh guess what, He's got three touchdowns and
- 53:26Speaker 1: five interceptions, So this is really his rookie year to
- 53:30Speaker 1: make mistakes, you know, And it's hard to find. It's
- 53:34Speaker 1: it's hard to like. You know. Again, I'm like Paul,
- 53:37Speaker 1: it sounds like I'm making excuses for Mac, But I
- 53:40Speaker 1: think that's just the reality. No, I think there's something
- 53:42Speaker 1: in there for sure. And and that's why I think
- 53:44Speaker 1: the question I'd love to hear answer, which you'll never get.
- 53:47Speaker 1: But just as you know, what, what was the coaching
- 53:48Speaker 1: staff's philosophy with these like pushing the ball down the field?
- 53:51Speaker 1: I mean, I think my interpretation, as I've said, is
- 53:53Speaker 1: that we need to have more chunk plays to compete
- 53:56Speaker 1: in this modern NFL. And if we want to be
- 53:58Speaker 1: a playoff team, a team that conte with the best
- 54:00Speaker 1: teams in the AFC, you need to get all the
- 54:02Speaker 1: ball down the field. You're not going to do it
- 54:04Speaker 1: doing what you're doing right now with Bailey's And if Mac,
- 54:07Speaker 1: and if if the Breer story is true that Mac was,
- 54:10Speaker 1: you know, not on board in the off season, it
- 54:14Speaker 1: might have been less you know the fact that Patricia
- 54:16Speaker 1: and Judge were his coaches, in the fact that why
- 54:19Speaker 1: are we changing the offense? Like I don't really care
- 54:21Speaker 1: who the coaches are, but like, why don't we build
- 54:23Speaker 1: on what we did last year? You know? According to him,
- 54:26Speaker 1: and this is Bert, and I heard him talking a
- 54:28Speaker 1: lot about this over the last few weeks, and according
- 54:32Speaker 1: to him, it's both okay, wondering why they're doing this
- 54:35Speaker 1: in the first place, and then why are we changing
- 54:36Speaker 1: the offense as well? But the one phrase that that
- 54:41Speaker 1: Bert keeps using that resonates with me is he describes
- 54:45Speaker 1: Mac and Alex if you remember, as a why he's
- 54:49Speaker 1: a big He's asking why he's a big? Why guy?
- 54:51Speaker 1: What's wrong with that? I don't think there's anything wrong
- 54:54Speaker 1: with it, but I think Bill Belichick probably does. I
- 54:57Speaker 1: think Bill Belichick loves talking fo football and I love
- 55:01Speaker 1: talking football with a guy who has the bonafliages to
- 55:04Speaker 1: do it. Oh yeah, fair enough. There's a difference between
- 55:07Speaker 1: talking football and like, for example, your kid. It's a
- 55:10Speaker 1: difference between having a conversation with your kid about something.
- 55:13Speaker 1: But they always questioning why you're telling them to do
- 55:15Speaker 1: something over and over. That's annoying. I get that I
- 55:17Speaker 1: had a dollar every time I said something precisely because
- 55:21Speaker 1: I said so right, I promised myself that I would
- 55:23Speaker 1: never do that to my kids. Can you do it? Promised?
- 55:27Speaker 1: Why are we doing this on this week? Because I said,
- 55:29Speaker 1: but they're not dealing with a three year old, that
- 55:31Speaker 1: dealing with a man. And so I think he has
- 55:35Speaker 1: a right to say how come we're doing this? But
- 55:36Speaker 1: in comparison, what do you see that says we should
- 55:40Speaker 1: do this? I want my quarterback to be questioning and
- 55:43Speaker 1: have input. And now, of course there's always a limit,
- 55:47Speaker 1: you know, once we've made the decision, that's it. Having
- 55:50Speaker 1: having input is certainly understandable. But I think that that's
- 55:54Speaker 1: part of what the rift with Brady and Belichick was like,
- 55:57Speaker 1: is Brady constantly pushing back? Like I'm not sure that
- 56:00Speaker 1: that's something that Belichick welcomes, certainly not out of a
- 56:03Speaker 1: second year of quarterback. There's there's a point, there's a point.
- 56:07Speaker 1: But I do want my quarterback being inquisitive and understanding
- 56:11Speaker 1: the concept, the why behind what we're doing. Yeah, and
- 56:15Speaker 1: that if you understand that, you do it better if
- 56:18Speaker 1: you understand the concept. It's like anything you learn in school.
- 56:22Speaker 1: Like I was. I was not a good learner, especially
- 56:25Speaker 1: when it came to math. But once I understood the why,
- 56:28Speaker 1: for example, behind algebra, I could teach it. So is
- 56:33Speaker 1: the why people need to know? The why? Is the
- 56:35Speaker 1: why because he's actually that curious or he wants it
- 56:40Speaker 1: broken down? Or is it because the media narrative all
- 56:43Speaker 1: year was what the hell are the Pats doing with
- 56:45Speaker 1: Matt Patricia? What what are they doing on offensive? Yeah,
- 56:48Speaker 1: we don't know the conversation. No, and I don't. This
- 56:51Speaker 1: is someone else's report. We don't to tell you what
- 56:53Speaker 1: he meant by it. Yeah, I just I heard Matt
- 56:56Speaker 1: Hasselbeck one time talking about his career and he said,
- 56:59Speaker 1: I really started to hit another level when I started
- 57:02Speaker 1: asking why. Now, that was more in the context of
- 57:05Speaker 1: why are we calling this play? I think, you know,
- 57:07Speaker 1: a lot of young quarterbacks probably I get the play call.
- 57:09Speaker 1: I call the play. But he said, you know, when
- 57:12Speaker 1: I started asking why are we calling this play? And
- 57:14Speaker 1: that was when his understanding went to a new level.
- 57:16Speaker 1: So I like that aspect of it. But I like
- 57:18Speaker 1: that aspect of it too, I think, And again I
- 57:21Speaker 1: don't know what Albert Brewer is reporting exactly. I think
- 57:24Speaker 1: the whys that he's talking about are big. Why are
- 57:27Speaker 1: we hiring defensive coaches to run offense? Okay? Why are
- 57:30Speaker 1: we changing everything we do to cater to these coaches
- 57:33Speaker 1: that have never coached this offense? That's what I think.
- 57:36Speaker 1: His why is not like why why are we run
- 57:39Speaker 1: them ball? There? Yeah, you know, big, bigger picture stuff, right,
- 57:43Speaker 1: And like you don't like if I'm Bill Belichick, you
- 57:46Speaker 1: don't need to know why this is what we're doing.
- 57:48Speaker 1: And because I'm the head coach, right and there is
- 57:50Speaker 1: a certain level I feel like of the head coach
- 57:52Speaker 1: of like I'm not going around explaining every decision I
- 57:54Speaker 1: make in the organization. And that's how I took it. Again,
- 57:57Speaker 1: I might be reading into it too much, but that's
- 57:59Speaker 1: how I took what Alex was talking about with that
- 58:01Speaker 1: Brier stuff for over the weekend. Okay, back to the phones,
- 58:05Speaker 1: we'll go to Matt and Florida. What's up, Mac? Are
- 58:08Speaker 1: we doing happy Zappy Tuesday? I put him down as
- 58:12Speaker 1: against National. I'm not off the Zappy train, but I
- 58:20Speaker 1: have one question, um, and another one to make um.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Do you think that Max Leash is tighter now with
- 58:34Speaker 1: what they've seen from bley Zappy? And I also wanted
- 58:39Speaker 1: to make a point, not a question, since when did
- 58:42Speaker 1: we become a deep ball team? Because the last time
- 58:46Speaker 1: I remember, the Patriot offense is flant short passes, screens,
- 58:52Speaker 1: having a game manager and a decision maker in there,
- 58:55Speaker 1: not something. Mac is not the guy to throw a
- 58:59Speaker 1: deep ball, and quite frankly, I don't know who is
- 59:02Speaker 1: going to go down the field to catch that deep ball,
- 59:04Speaker 1: if Matt, if Matt can even get it there. Okay,
- 59:07Speaker 1: so let me just ask you. I'm gonna ask I'm
- 59:09Speaker 1: gonna answer your question by asking a question, what was
- 59:12Speaker 1: the last time you felt the Patriots had a really
- 59:13Speaker 1: good offense? Oh? Years now? Right? Years? So I think
- 59:21Speaker 1: that's the answer is to why are they trying to
- 59:22Speaker 1: throw the ball downfield because they're trying to do something
- 59:25Speaker 1: different because what they're what they've done has been successful
- 59:29Speaker 1: to a point, but limited in today's NFL. Right, I
- 59:33Speaker 1: feel like that, well it yeah, I mean it's been
- 59:36Speaker 1: limited now that we have Bailey in there. It was
- 59:39Speaker 1: limited last year. Oh yeah, limited last year too, and
- 59:42Speaker 1: the year in the year before and in the year
- 59:46Speaker 1: before by the way, with Tom Brady. Yeah, although they
- 59:49Speaker 1: were they still in top five numbers wise, they were
- 59:53Speaker 1: probably top ten last year because they score fifty against
- 59:57Speaker 1: the Jets and the Jets, right right, that's true. Ob skewed.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: He's not, no Josh Allen no have an arm like that. No, no,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: No one would ever confuse his physical skills with Josh Allen's.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: I would agree with you one. But I think that
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: they are trying to They're trying to include things in
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: their looks to just make keep defenses honest. And I'll
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: go back again to last year. The Patriots were easy
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: to defend. I mean, you gotta like, you gotta remember,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: you've got to remember that that's what people were thinking.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Other teams were thinking about the Patriots, and the Patriots
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: got had to get out of that. They had to
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: get out of that, right, and when you're exceptionally skilled,
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: thanks Matt, you can run a lot of you know,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: quick slants and in quick option routes and throw it
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: to the backs because you have Julian Edelman and Wes
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Welker and you know, James White and Tom Brady and
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: you can execute at a ridiculously high level with Rob
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: grunk House he going down the scene, by the way,
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: when you start losing those pieces and it becomes good players,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: because I think they have good players on offense. I
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: think Parker's been good. I think Myers has been better
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: than good. You know, but it's different, they're not they're predecessors.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Where can we all agree on that? Yeah? Right? And
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: I think he touched upon a little, i mean an
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: element just to expand upon it. It's like Tom Brady
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: was able to execute ten twelve fourteen play drives and
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: getting you into the right look and if he had
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: to just dink and dunking down the field, he had
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: no problem. What would have happened if tom Brady's offense
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: got six pre snap penalties, they would have overcome them.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: They would have Now that's time might have killed them first.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: But yeah, right, But that's part of that's part of
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: what third and twelve, that's part of what impressed me
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: though on Sundays. They did overcome some of those, not
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: all of them, but some of them. You know, like
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: early in the game, first drive, it's third and four
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: and Trent Brown jumps outside, makes it a third and nine.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: He converts it. Yep, you know, I think that was
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: the one to Parker down the sideline. They convert a
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: third and nine. That was game set match for the
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: most part over the last year and a half. Yeah,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: you know, you make a third and four, third and nine,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: they're not gonna thing. And and I would push back
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: just a little bit on that color that I think
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Mac has has some downfield ability. I don't think he
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: has a you know, a plus arm or anything like that.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Any quarterback has the ability to get the ball. But
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: I think he can make those throws. He has some
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: touch and some anticipation. Watch two training camps with him.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: I mean, look at two his numbers now, like two
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: of doesn't have a big arm, right, He's getting the ball.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I mean before he got hurt, he was getting the
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: ball downfield. Yeah, So I mean, I just I don't
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: think that Max's arm is like, well, we can't do that.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: I mean, I think he's he's fine, like, but I
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: just think it's totally necessary. And I think we spent
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: so much time talking about an offensive evolution. You can
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: make us with the Shanahan offense, whatever that means. And
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: in reality, I think the bigger difference of it is
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: trying to get the ball downfield, drafting fast guys, getting
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: a contested catch, guy getting Thornton explosive place. Uh, let's see.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Ford is in Savannah, Georgia. Oh it was a Ford once?
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: Who should I put that? Should that before or against? Ford?
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: It's an American vehicle that's pretty pretty good Man to Savannah. No, Savannah,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: I don't think. No. I don't think I've ever been
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: to Savannah. Olivier's in New York. What's up Olivier? Hey, guys,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: how are you love your show? Guys? Oh? Thank you?
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: It's difficult. Just question you know. It's funny, Like everyone
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: likes talk about Mike and Zapping. Yeah, I think both
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: of them are very great. I think like make was
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: staying at the beginning of the season, he's just appolishment
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: of the preseason. And I think now the beginning, it
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: will be better. I think the offense look a little
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: bit better. Um, just if Mark, when he come back,
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: doesn't do his job, maybe he's gonna lose his job.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: That's possible. Now another thing, it's always funny when you
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: help here some of the media. I think he's missing
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: with it. We wanted because when they ask him about, oh,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: if he's healthy, he's coming back and being what he
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: was seeing as he was a Sunday, said well, he
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: wasn't the case today, and he talks always about he
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: responds with another question. Yes, I want to answer the question,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: which is why I think it's a conversation. Good point, Olivier.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: I'm going to put him down from Macy. I mean,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: I mean it sounds like he thinks Mac gets his
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: job back, but if he doesn't play well, he doesn't
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: keep it forever. I know what I can live with that.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: I mean, Bill doesn't do anything on accident, and there's
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: got to be a reason why he just doesn't come
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: out and say Max a quarterback when he's ready, he'll
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: play right. He hasn't said that. I guess he's with
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: me and Paul, you know, you know, he hasn't said that. Listen.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: I am the self proclaims most stubborn man in America. Right, Yeah,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: I thought one thing last week. I saw something that
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: was different than what I thought last week, and I'm
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: adjusting to what I saw. I have additional information that
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: I'm now saying. I think it's worthy of a conversation.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: Some one else might not think it's worthy of a conversation.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: I would always want to summarize for Paul, he's saying
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: day by day, day by day, Yeah, play by play.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: I just think if Bailey Zappy it was wance to
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: throw for three hundred yards and a couple of touchdowns
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: and not throw interceptions, I won't say not turn the
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: ball over? Then why why not ride the hot streak? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: why not make him play a bad game before you
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: make a change? Zappy's not all up my ass about
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: this new offense. Walpa just does what he's told. I
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: like it. Wally, Pip, all right, we're gonna take a

- 1:15:25Speaker 1: the ace ticket. Hutline web radio at Patriots dot com
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: is the email address? A couple quick emails. Um Cody
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: in Indiana says, count me in for the firm Mac column. Um.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: He thinks they have similar skills, but Mac has the experience,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: so he's one from Mac. Okay, got it? Um, let's see, Dada,
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: this person didn't give us one. I'm just trying to
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: go to Garrett Gilbert. Um, let's see Matt and Ohio
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: mark me down for Mac. Zappy did look better this
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: game and had great pocket presents. And I have to
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: admit I have a touch of a fever. But I
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: am a little worried with Max's attitude and Zappy doing
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: whatever the coach is asking him. So he goes on
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: and on, but but but he's for Mac. Yeah, that's
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: otherwise known as the Brian Morey. Yeah, cover all bases
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: with my prediction. Um, let's see, uh, Jared Write says,
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: count me in on Zappy. I know it's crazy, but
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: he passes the eye tests. I haven't seen the offense
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: look normal in a long time. It's starting to now
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: this is crazy. Yeah, UM give me Zappy Olivier. I
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: don't know if this is the same one, but he says,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: I just think Mac. It's Mac's job to have unless
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: he's not performing, which is fair. So I guess he's
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: from Mac. Did you guys do similar stuff like this
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: for Brady and Bledsoe? Is this? Is this having flashbacks
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: at all? A little? Yeah, that's why I'm having fun.
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: Paula whatever those like for you? I mean you did you?
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: I was Brady? Yeah, you can ask Red. I was initially,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I told you. I mean yeah. The first
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: game they handed the ball off, they had two pick
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: sixes and they did nothing. Brady was like through for
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: like one hundred and something yards. The next game they
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: went down to Miami and get killed, and he looked overwhelmed.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: The next game, he threw fifty four passes against the
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: Charges and rallied him from a ten point fourth quarter
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: deficit in one and overtime. And I said that was different.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: That was different. It's kind of like what I'm I'm
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: not comparing the two situations, but Sunday in Cleveland was
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: different for Zappy. He didn't just hand the ball up.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: They couldn't run the ball. They didn't run the ball
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: effectively all day. They had one good run. Brandon writes
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: in he says, why are we trying to pick Mac
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: is our guy until he shows us otherwise? The offense
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: is getting better and showing growth. Put Mac in it,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: and I think we're better. So the interesting thing, though,
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: Paul about it is is Bledsoe was tall and had
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: a arm on him, like he had a physical set
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: that an average fan watching a game would be like
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: that guy's in an NFL quarterback and Brady not, you
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like so worse here trying to
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: split hairs between what's the difference from Mac and and
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: and and and Bailey. He's happy, but you know, it
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: must have been a lot harder to do that when
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: you had first overall pick who had the full A
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: lot of people myself included, were you know, you got
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: to get him some help. He has no running game,
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: The defense stanks, they have no receivers. It's it's just
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: basically like Terry Glenn and that's it. And then Terry
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: Glenn was like off the reservation and you know, wasn't
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: wasn't part of the program. And then Brady went in
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: with the same personnel and it looked a lot better,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: Like you couldn't ignore it. Yeah, yeah, and I'm not
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: going to tell you that I I was like instantly
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: on board, but it was quick. It was like a
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: month in. I was like, this guy's he's playing better.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: Same guys. Yeah, A couple quick more um um, and
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: then we'll go back to the phones. David and Maine. Uh,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: sounds like he's a Bailey guy, says, Bailey's mobility buys
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: time when the first option isn't there. I want to
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: see more. I don't see much more from Mac, so
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: I guess he would be a zappy guy. George is
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: going to be one side George, and Texas says count
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: me in for Mac. Chris in Virginia. I've always been
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: a Mac guy, and I would start him if he's healthy.
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: But I'm not gonna lie this past weekend look very
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: similar to last year. I want to know your guy's
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: opinion on ben Voland's take on Mac Jones needing to
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: be Humbled. I just watched that video a few seconds ago. Yeah,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: I don't have much take on so I guess he's
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: a Mac guy. I'm not sure. Yeah, he's a Mac guy. Okay,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: all right? Finding and interesting that most of the emails
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: are Mac guys. Yeah, and the callers have been zappy
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: and and I have a read the writers are more
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: thoughtful exactly Fred, thank you Wow. Emailing though is also
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: there's a level of like not count on amenity, but
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: like if you're calling in, it's your voice, like take
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: some right, some four, though you might get a pit
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: bull over here coming after you if you if you're
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: not today, not today guy, not after that win. Let's
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: go back to the phones eight five pats, five hundred.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: We'll start with Vinnie in Vegas. What's up? Vinnie? Hey, guys, um,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: what a different game maker? I think I think I
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: think that this can you guys hear me? Okay? Yeah,
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: you know, I don't know what are you saying today
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: or what's going on? No, you know, you know you're
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: making me think I have AT and T, and lately
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: my reception has been horrible. I actually have really thought
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: about changing terriers. I've been with ATC for twenty years.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: I don't know if it's AT and T or the
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: wind in the background. How about macro Zappy? Yeah, well,
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: so here's the thing. I'm gonna give you my five
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: cents on this. I think right now, even the most
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: sovereign at least willing to speak into the possibility of
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: Sappy right. And I think that for me is a
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: matter of expectation, not just the fans expectation, but also
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: the pressure or the weight that that puts from the quarterback. Right. Uh.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: We were talking about this at the beginning of the season.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: If it was all a Mac, right Mac. If Mac
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: is good, we're gonna be good. If Mac is bad,
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: we're gonna be terrible. Right, And so we taught me
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: there was no expectation and no pressure on him. He
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: can just go out and play and you know, whatever
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: he does, who's gonna be awesome. Right. So I am,
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: I am a Mac guy, but I do I do
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: think that he is that he has no confidence right now.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: The expectation is too much on him, and I think
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: he is struggling because of that, but I still think
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: that he should still be given the chance to come
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: back and play and keep his job. Okay, thanks Benny,
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: appreciate it. James and new Haven is a zappy guy,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: he says. His instincts tell him it's Bailey zappy. It's
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: a much longer explaining then, I'm not going to get
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: into didn't read. Let's go to Ryan and Florida. What's up? Ryan? Friends? Hello? Guy? Hello?
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: I want I have a one question. What since the
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: good run of last year with Mac? What it has
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: been his record since the bye week. I'm just curious
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: because it's terrible, meaning we've watched them grow and then
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: kind of go backwards. So the guy right two and
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: seven because they went and two, they went one and
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: four down the stretch counting the playoff game and they
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: were one, one and two. County said he was a
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: zappy guy. Yeah, I put him down for zappy. Cody's
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: in Nova Scotia. What's up, Cody? Hey, how's everybody doing? Right? Uh?
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: Firmly put me down for Mac and Paul's little pole. Okay, firmly. Um.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: I just I can't understand all the love that Zapp
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: he's getting for the Green Bay in the line game.
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: I think it's ridiculous that we're giving him credit for
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: not coop himself. Wow, Like I I he deserves a
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: little credit for that. Yeah, green Bay game, I think
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: he deserves a little credit for not But we'll be
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: on that now. Yeah. Like, I'll totally give him credit
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: for the Cleveland game because he played, He played his
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: tale off. He didn't never run a game, he didn't
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: have anything else going for them. But at the same time, like,
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: I can't give him credit for handing the ball off
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: and throwing the ball a couple of times against Green Bay. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: I don't think he played anything special against green Bay,
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: but I do give him some credit for holding it
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: together under probably the worst of circumstances. Yeah, but I agree.
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: I agree with Cody. I don't think he did anything
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: in that game. Yep, yep. But wait, thanks guys, Okay,
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: thanks Cody. We'll go to Sean and Vancouver. What's up Sean, Sean? Yeah, Well,
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: if Mac is one hundred percent this week, I'm going
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: to play him on Monday night. If he's ready, Yeah,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: I want him out there. But if he doesn't end
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: Zappy plays really well like he did uh in Cleveland,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: then you know, I think I might change my mind
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: and I think i'd continue with that because now I
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: don't know that momentum would be going for for real
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: and you might be seeing something that I'll go to
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: the panel. So let's just say, Okay, so if Max's ready,
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: you play him, if Mac doesn't, If not ready and
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: Zappi plays, well, you want to stay with Mac. What
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: if Mac is ready, he plays and he doesn't play
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: that well, then what what would you do? I go
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: back to Zappi to go back to Zappie after one game?
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: So it sounds like a like a Zappy guy. Yeah,
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, Like, so who do you want?
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: Come on, I want I want Mac. Who do you
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: think is better? Who's your quarterback for the rest of
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: Who do you think is better? Who's your guy the
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: rest of the season. I can't predict now, but I
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: think you play a better quarterback. Okay, so I'm going
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: to put you down for mat he has more guils,
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: all right, that's okay, Okay, all right, I think that
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: the way he's going back and forth, it's a great
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: question though. It's like if you play him on Monday
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: night versus a Bears team who is bad. Yeah, yeah, bad.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna say questionable because it was like, I don't
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: I don't know if I should say bad, but bad
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: um if he doesn't play well against them, but they
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: also dialed back the offense a little bit and they're
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: not forcing him to throw those deep balls and he
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: still doesn't do well? Is that rust? Or is that? Yeah? Well,
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: here a lot of things, But here's the scenario we
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: haven't even brought up yet. But what if Zappie plays
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: terribly against Chicago? Then what? I don't know if I yea,
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: that's like consider people were off Mac. What do they do?
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: They have no where to go? They were with May.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: But I also just I don't I don't see that
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: happening against a Bears team that is good. See, I
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: could see it happening. I could see it happening any week. Yeah,
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: it gets behind it. I mean a fumble, they score
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: a touchdown, and they're down in a hole. Yeah, And
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: I'm not talking about losing the game. I'm talking about
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: not like if Cleveland just didn't turn the ball over
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: the other day, what is the final score of that game?
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: Twenty four. Probably, I don't think they three. I mean,
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: if Cleveland doesn't turn the ball over in that game,
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: I think that's that's going to be a competitive game.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean, I mean, if they just kicked
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: the extra point with six minutes left, it's a one
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: touchdown game. I mean you could say the same for
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: the Lions too. I mean, take away their million fourth
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: down stops that they didn't get and they could have
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: kicked field goals all for all those that's right. Um
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: Anthony writes in UM count me as pro Zappy, but
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: not by much. Neither of these guys give me much
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: excitement for the future. I think they're both average to
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: blow average. It's just signed Paul wow Dan and Main
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: definitely for Jones, but Zappy will be a solid backup
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: if the ankle injury lingers Tim from New Hampshire, Mac
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: with a leash she's never had on him. If he
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: plays like Baltimore prior to the picks, I want Mac.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: If he comes out playing like he did against Miami,
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: I want Zappy. Yeah. Well, okay, let me I put
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: him down for Mac because I think he's saying that
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: the ceiling is higher with Mack Okay, can I jump
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: in one second, because I think I speak fan. It's
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: something Tamara said, like, you know, if if Mac comes
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: back and all of a sudden, they're making them just
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: do the things that Zappy did, Like I'm not gonna
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: be like reassured or excited about it, Like like if
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: he comes back, like they need to do things that
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: a second year quarterback needs to be doing. Like if
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: all he comes back and he's got a governor on
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: him like Zappy and they just play Zappy. If that's
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: how you feel about this, there's like a a philosophical
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: debate that you could have, Like Fred always talks about
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: Peyton Manning when he was a rookie, you know, through
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: a ton of interceptions because they just they took him
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: and they decided he's got all this talent. We're just
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: gonna let him learn on the fly and learn what
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: he can do and make plays and make mistakes. And
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: we know we're not a good team, we're gonna live
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: with it because we think he's so good that we're
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: going to be better off in the long run. The Patriots,
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: on the other hand, said, we're gonna monitor this guy
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: and micromanage everything he does. And Josh mcjanals is going
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: to keep him out of harm's way. We're not even
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: gonna let him throw the ball into the end zone
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: for like five games. And do you think and there's
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: a philosophical argument just to really strongly say which one
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: of those is a better idea? Right? But what did
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: you learn? And you know, and I also think, like
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: it's not said, but I think they were desperate to
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: get back into the playoffs last year. I do too.
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: That's why I said, I think this is a really
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: good argument to be made that sacrificing the mistakes to
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: best put you in position to win games and make
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: the playoffs may have been the right move, but it
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: may not have for the overall development and growth of
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: Mac Jones, right, because he should have been learning through
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: some of the mistakes he made in the first three games.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: What last year? What am I? What are my abilities?
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: You know? What can I do? What can't I do? What?
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: And that's a very simplistic look at what I think
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: is a pretty in depth discussion, right. And I would say,
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: you know, both those quarterbacks were lucky they had good
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: coaching staffs, whereas like someone like Trevor Lawrence last year
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: who didn't have a good look at how much better
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: he looks this year than last year. He's not, that's
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: not just expece. Should suthe him for non support? You could?
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: You could say about Justin Fields, I'm like, is he
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: a bust or is he just being mishandled right now? Why? Why?
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: What's happening with it? Yeah? I think that's coaching malpractice?
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: What's going on with them? The fact that he fred
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: Do you know he's thrown one hundred and fifteen passes
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: and been sacked twenty three times? Wow, twenty three times
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: on one hundred and fifteen Well whatever on sack pace? Yeah,
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: well he he won't know because he's not going to
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: throw the ball. They won't let him throw it because
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: they can't protect him. Now, part of that is that
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: he holds the ball too long too, But he's been
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: sacked on twenty percent of his drop back? Did you
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: see him on the sideline? Like they've already made memes
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: about it, Like, I guess he has breathing exercises. I
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: now Mac does too, But like I felt bad for
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: the poor kid, you know, and it's not like listen,
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: he's not played. Well, I'm not trying to tell you
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: this is a star in the making, but he's being mismanaged. Yeah,
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: he hasn't played well, but they stink and the coaches stink.
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: I mean, we figure it out. It's hard for us
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: to understand how hard it is to be a quarterback
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: in the NFL. It's a tough, tough position. Yeah, it
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: really is the fact that he's throwing twenty five passes
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: in the game once is I mean, how are you
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: developing a quarterback if you don't let him throw? Right?
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: Jeffson Texas, Hey, Jeff, Hi, guys, how are you doing good?
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: Jeff Goodead Hey, A couple of things. First off, so, um,
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: I will say um on the quarterbacks, it's it's Max's
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: position to um to uh, you know, to lose. So
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: he's gonna we have reasonable listeners. Yeah, yeah, I mean
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: he's he's got to continue to do better. I like Zaffie,
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: but it's Max's position. I think, UM. And what I
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: really want to talk about, guys, Frank, can we can
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: we have a little fun to talk about the schedule
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: because I'm looking at the schedule and it's just there're
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: just there's you know, like Mike mentioned, uh, you know,
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: what's going to happen when we play elite teams? But
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: you know who who's elite? There's like the Bills, uh
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: and the Eagles, yeah right right? Who else would you
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: put in this elite? I mean puts up there? Yeah,
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: and uh the Philadelphia and Buffalo right yeah? Yeah? But
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: what but what do you what do you think in
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: comparison to uh, like Cleveland and to say Detroit, where
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: would you put like Cincinnati in Minnesota? Yeah, I would
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: put in Minnesota up. I think they're going to be
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: very tough. The Jets could be tough. But other than that,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: you look at the Cardinals or at the bottom of
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: the division. And I didn't ask you about the Cardinals.
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: I asked about the Bengals and the Bills and the
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: Dolphins and should be tough, and about the Raiders, like
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: the Raiders have talent, Like these are teams that have
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: more talent than you. They have talent, but there there
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: at the bottom, they're one and four. I mean, okay, well,
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: so you you spent the whole first pat of the
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: season on the bottom and everybody thought the Patriots were
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: really good. One in three team, Remember, Jeff, I played
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: your game Sunday morning before I went down the schedule.
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: So okay, so here here's my point to that. If
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: you look at all the teams right now, all the
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: win lost, there's majority or three and three. So most
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: teams are mediocre. Right, And so now if you talk
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: about all the mediocre teams, there's some that are rising
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: and that are very questionable don't look good. So I
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: think the Pakers are a rising mediocre team. Um, yeah,
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: because they played the terrible teams to get to mediocre.
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: When they played the good teams, they lost. Yeah. But
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: my but my point is that most of the teams,
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: if you look at the look at the win lost,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: most of the teams are mediocre. I understand that Baltimore
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: was one of those mediocre teams that beat you. This
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: is my point, Like, I don't care what your record is,
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: how good are their players? Like, when you play Detroit,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: you're gonna win because they don't have any players. When
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: you play Pittsburgh, you're gonna win. But but on the thing,
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: But okay, but still, like maybe the Cardinals aren't gonna
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: do that well. I mean, the Cardinals aren't very good.
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: That's not one of the teams I'm worried about. But
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: who are you worried about Buffalo, Cincinnati, Miami, the Raiders,
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: Like I worried about those teams. Why are you worried
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: about Miami? They're they're a mess right now? Yeah, I know,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: but their quarterback will eventually come back and play. And
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: you know what, when when you play with your third
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: string quarterback and you play against Cincinnati in Minnesota, it's
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: a little bit more difficult than when you do it
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: against Detroit and Cleveland. That's why. So I have respect
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: for the talent I you know, jeff I, Now if
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: two one doesn't play the rest of the year and
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: they just think, okay, I won't worry about that game anymore.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: But I think two's coming back. Yeah, and the Raiders,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: you know. And and did you watch like the first
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: quarter and a half of the preseason game with the
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: Raiders and there's nothing there like when their backups like
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: smacked you all over the place. Well, you can't judge
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: any but I'm just talking about talent. That's just that's
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: not game plan or anything like. That's just like men
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: playing against mess. And Jeff I, I went through the
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: exercise Sunday morning before the game. I went down on
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: schedule and you know, I have them splitting the West
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: Coast games. You know, I don't think they can. You know,
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: I think it's unreasonable thing you're gonna win both of those.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: I have them losing both of the Bills games. I
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: still have them coming out eight and nine, maybe nine
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: and eight, you know, but there's not gonna be enough things.
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: I think you could win nine or ten years, and
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: I think they could make the playoffs, but I don't
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: think they're much different than they were last year. Yeah, Okay.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: The only thing that gives me hope for the future
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: is there's more young guys being involved in it this year,
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: which I feel better about it. Yeah, I mean, I
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: hopefully they're playing better at the end of the year.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: I'mlike last year. Yeah, you know, that's that's what you
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: want to look. But I just think you should be
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: on the you should be aware that that's probably not
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: going to happen based on the schedule. Again. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: I think they'll make the playoffs. But I think they
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: could make the playoffs. But you know, I don't, you know, like, yeah,
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: they're gonna have to don't feel any better about going
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: into them beat the players. They're gonna have to beat Minnesota.
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: That's gonna be a tough game. They're gonna have to
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: beat the Jets twice. I think that's gonna be the
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: Jets twice. But yeah, I think they could beat the
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: Jets twice. I think that's hardest. Another thing that I
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: kind of thought is thanks we're talking on Sunday about
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: the Colts. I didn't realize. I just messed up. I
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: thought that game was on the road. That's a hood,
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: so that's a that's a more winnable guy. I think
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: the Colts are no gimme no. The Coults are another
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: team that has talent, and sooner or later, some of
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: those guys are gonna actually be putting playing, you know,
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: like Shaq, Shaquille, Leonard U and Jonathan Taylor who haven't played,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: you know, the balance of the season, and they're still
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: over five hundred. Like that team, that might not be
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: an easy game, and in like three weeks from now,
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: the Colts game, Kelly says, Zappy one hundred percent should
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: start the next game. No need to make a decision
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: about the whole season now. But he put in a
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: ton of work and was spectacular. I like Mack and
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: was very excited for him to join our team over
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: Cam Newton. I wanted him during his draft, but Zappi
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: is clearly better today. Team Zappy all the way. Okay, wow, Wow,
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: let's get back to the phones. We'll go to SPI
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: and Fresno. Hey Speed, Hey Paul, Paul. Little Polo has
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: grown to an impressive size. I gotta lead into that.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: I gotta go U, I gotta go with, gotta go
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: with mac. He's I just haven't had enough sample size
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: that he's like a first round pick he got. I
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: gotta give him at least two seasons in order to
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: took At the same time, I'm I kind of week
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: the week, day by day. I mean, I like what
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: I like? I like what what the vast did there?
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: You know, I gotta a question for you. Got the
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: first drive because I really was impressed with that, the
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: compensating for the pretnap penalties, the lack of production in
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: the run game on the opening drive, and but then
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: that path to a Hunter Henry where so what's the foul?
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: Because Hunter Henry got pushed out of bound. That's legal,
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: come back in and he took a couple of steps. Yeah,
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: that's legal. Um, And I did look this up, Fred,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: I don't know why the referee said he went out
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: of bounds on his own as if that that the
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: penalty that confused a lot of people. I looked it
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: up and they eliminated that um and I think sixteen
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: they both, I don't know, five six years ago. If
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: you go out of bounds, you can't be the first
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: guy to touch it when you come back in, even
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: if you re established. And they changed it to a
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: loss of down, so you wouldn't benefit from that. In
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: other words, that would have been a doover, right if
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: they had just called it a regular penalty instead it's
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: a loss of down, and they didn't even if he
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: was pushed. Thatappy was out of the pocket, which allows
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: for some contact, and it was minimal contact anyway. But
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: but that's what confused me, he said, the runner the
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: player went out on his own accord. Yeah, if I
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: don't know why he said that, based on what I
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: looked up yesterday, it doesn't really make much sense. Yeah,
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: but he also he also had a bush. He also
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: had a weird thing with the illegal bat where he
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: said the penalty would be enforced from the line of scrimmage.
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: It wasn't it was enforced from the spot of the sack.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: So in other words, the Patriots aren't penalized for the
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: guy committing a penalty, like you should benefit from that.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: So it was whatever the loss of yards was on
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: the sack. I think I think that they didn't. They
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: got it right on the field, but they said it wrong.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: I think that was those guys had a tough day. Yeah,
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: like they were. Their explanations were bad when it comes
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: to similar but different, like with like if matth Slayer
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: runs out of bounds now and on he can he
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: now re establish himself first he is, that's always going
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: to be No, if he's the first guy to touch it,
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: it's illegal touching, right, So they kept that one, but
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: they I guess, okays the same thing is that also
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: twenty and sixteen thing? Well, no, it's the loss of down.
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: I think was the adjustment to the rules. Like I
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: remember Slater going down on a punt or whatever it
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: was and getting he said he was pushed out of bounds.
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: He ran about ten twenty yards out of bounds, came
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: back in and was the guy that made the tackle,
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: and they called the penalty on him, and they're like,
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: how can you you know, well, if anyone knows the rules,
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: it's Matthew Slater. But but the thing was the first
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: guy to make a play. No, that's not that. That
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: penalty was. It's unsportsmanlike conduct. If you continue to run
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: out of bounds. Oh he didn't. When you get knocked
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: out of found, you have to come immediately back in
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: as soon as you can. Oh okay, he ran about
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: twenty yards down field on that play, right? I think
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: that happened last year? Was it last year? It might
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: have been like you got you gotta be careful when
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: you're going down on a planter speed. That's just that's
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: just wow. Eldred Eldred is in Charlotte. It's Eldred batis
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: not Eldred. What's up, Eldred lady? How y'all doing today?
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: He hailer. I'm I'm not gonna either one of the bandwagon.
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: Another Paul. Remember Paul last year? Last year I wanted
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: to and I think, yeah, yeah, I like fields too.
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: But he hasn't played well. Wrong coaching, wrong system. I
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: think it's Josh got him last year. You'd be a
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: hit a lot better this year. But that's that's just
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: my cake. So you you will not put a vote
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: in for either one of them. You don't want either
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: one of these guys to start Steve will Okay, who
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: do you gotta look good? But but I would put
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: Mac in. But I want to see him against the
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: damn good defense like Buffalo or Minnesota and then go
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: from there. Yeah, you know, I know we're at Pittsburgh.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: You know, Pittsburgh was pretty good and Green Bay was
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: so though, but uh, I want to see him, see
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: either one of them against those defense and see how
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: you operate. Then and Matt Patricia called the play. He's
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: then and then out, you know, didn't you know? Yep,
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: we'll see. Yeah that's wrong. But you put me down
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: for Max. I did though, Now updating the stats at
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: sixteen to nine, all right to blow up? Well, let's
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: see Todd, it's in Greenville. What's up Todd? Still time
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: any guys. I was just trying to figure out exactly
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: how I would go with this. I kind of like
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: what Zappy's been doing. He seems to be connecting with
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: the teams up and I don't know. I don't know
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: if I mak in there without without healthy because I
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: think the fact that he watched somebody go into his
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: team run the offense, I think marginally better than he did.
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't think there's too much difference
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: between the two of them at the see. I don't
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: think he ran his offense. He ran another offense. So
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: but anyway, Yeah, was it really that different, Fred? I
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: think it was like it was what it was last year.
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: It wasn't like anything to do with the way they
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: did in the first three games. But he did the
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: same long throws he did a couple, No, he didn't.
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: Might you want to throw the numbers out there again?
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: Not as many? Sure you have it from THEE to Parker.
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: I mean I consider that a long throw. That was
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: one Okay, well it was actually big time throws. It
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: does that count as a big time throw? I don't know,
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: I don't know. No, I was talking about like the
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: air yard thing. Yeah today in six point seven for Zappie,
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: ten point four for Yeah, it's not even close, but
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: you know yards okay in the year, right, Yeah, But
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: I just don't want Mac back in there until he's
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: mentally and physically and that's what I would like, So
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: I'll leave it at that. Guy, I know, well, I
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: just I don't know if anybody's ever a one hundred
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: percent like. He's not going to be one percent like.
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: It's it's it's gonna be at some point he's gonna
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: be playing when his ankle is not completely healed. And
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: as you you know what I like to say, NFL
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: players don't tend to get healthier as the season goes on.
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: Vincent and Wilmington, North Carolina. Um, he's for Zappy, magical.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: Zappy showed something in less Tree games that mechanical Mac
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: has not shown in over a season. Zappy and it's
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: got the fever. Let's talking about the that Magnus writes it?
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: Or no, it's Chris from Maine. I think Mac needs
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: to be given a long leash to be allowed to
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: make mistakes and grow. Zappy's only a rookie. You won't
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: lose anything by putting him on the back burner for
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: a year. They need to see if Mac has potential
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: to eventually be a franchise quarterback that can make a
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: deep playoff run. Being blinded by Zappy fever is short
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: sighted Mac. It is Chris with a tia And who
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: do you think he's for Zappy? He's he's reactionary Mac.
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: He's a psycho reaction, he says, zappy fever, I got
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: the fever. Keep the kid in until he throws up
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: on himself. My decision is based in part on last himself,
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: based on part of my last image of Mac being
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: taken off the field looking like he had been shot.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: Mac is now perceived as a cry baby and his
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: unwillingness to go under the knife, no doubt, Bill, No, see,
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: that's just wrong, he says, I'm having fun with this.
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: Obviously didn't expect anything this year from the team anyway,
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: So what the hell? So I don't know what I've
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: gotten more of short leash or hothand everything's short leash
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: in hot hand these days. Leg makes sense yet hand.
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: I got to be honest, I'm not making fun of
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: anyone's opinions either side on this one. And like the
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: hot hand thing shortly, I'm not necessarily team Hothand, but
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: Hothand is a factor for me. Yeah that counts Howard
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: from st for Connecticut. I will admit Zappi has far
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: exceeded my expectations with what he has accomplished. That being said,
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: I believe Mac deserves the chance to come back and
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: play and get the opportunity to lose the position through
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: his performance or lack thereof over a few games. So
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: I think that right there, as I think why people
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: are coming down with the case of Zappy Fever, I
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: think that the expectation was so low when he went
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: into the game, like people didn't know what to expect,
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: that they weren't like they didn't come into the game
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: with high expectations. I think that everyone kind of came
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: in and like, let's see what happens here, because we
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: really didn't see that much during training camp, so the
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: expectations weren't that high, and so of course he exceeded that. Right,
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: So that makes everybody come down with the case of
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: zap pever, Right. I agree. It's like when you expect
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: to get socks for Christmas and it turns out to
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: be a baby gun, I mean, and it's like, wow,
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: I didn't expect this is great. See if you would
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: have said socks and like an iPhone fourteen? Okay, okay,
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: but yeah, oh yeah, you were never a young boy,
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: were you? No? H Phills and Albuquerque? What's up? Bill? Hey?
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: Kicking kicking the argument to add out of Serdom? Please
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: why aren't we talking about Hoyer? Is is more experienced
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: than Zappy? Right? If Hoyer was available, if you took
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: Mac out of the equation, and Zappy did what he could,
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: Mac can't come back, but Hoyer could back, could come
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: back next week, what would be the argument? See, now,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: I would keep I would keep Zappy because why am
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: I going to throw a thirty something year old veteran
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: back up? Yeah, to play out. Now, if we go
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: back to Green Bay, if we go back in time
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: and we have never seen Zappy, I'd go with Hoyer,
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: you know. But now that we've seen Zappy. Oh, I
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: would have gone with Hoyer the next week too, if
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: you if if he were healthy. Right, But my point
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: is at this stage, when you've already seen Zappy play
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: a couple of games, and in this Phil's hypothetical, so
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: Zappi's played three games, and now Lawyer is ready to
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: come back, I don't need to see what he can do.
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: I want I need to see what my starter can do,
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: my future, my guy that I want to play the
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: next ten years. But I don't need to see what
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: Hoyer can do, even if that allows me to win
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: a couple of extra games, and I think that's what
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: we're kind of burying, is that, like Zappy's performance is
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: what I would have hoped to get out of Hoyer.
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: Like that's that, Like that's like I have no doubt.
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: I have no doubt they would have won the two
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: games with Hoyer, And I think that they may have
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: won the green Bay game with Hoyer the way the
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: way the game unfolded. Yeah, yep. And then what you
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: see green Bay play, by the way, since the more
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: that goes down as a blown game. But good for
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: you to bring Howyer into the conversation, Phil, because he's
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: kind of people have forgotten about that he is. And
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: one more thing sticking on the out of surdom, isn't
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: this a good argument for Belichick always trading down? Right,
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: fourth round pick is you're arguing is almost as good
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: as our first round. He always wants to trade down.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: He's got another argument, court, Well, we have neither, right
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: than we haven't talked about jac Jackson yet. People Bill
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: was right, you know, don't pay him. Yeah I read.
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: I didn't want to pay him either, but I didn't
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: know he was going to get hurt. So I can
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: sit there and blow everybody. You might say, I knew
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: we would get hurt. Yeah, okay, welly interesting read by
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: Doug Ferrar today, which was like why can't they get
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: it right with jac Jackson? I mean I thought it
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: was interesting just schematically. I think, you know, it's not
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: a total fit with what the Chargers do on defense.
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: They play a lot of zone. I mean I just
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: think it's, uh, that's that's probably part of it too,
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: you know, like like what he did well here, I'm
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: not sure if it's you know, translating at least schematically
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: that he can just you know, either follow a guy
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: or be able to play you know, the pattern match
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: stuff that he was really good at. And you know,
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: I think they're just sticking him in zone now, and
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: I think it's a little bit more difficult. He had
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: an extra bone in his foot too, apparently, which I
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: mean he already played last night. I mean I guess
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: got batched. Yeah. I think that. Somebody asked Mayo a
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: question today and Mayo was like, oh, this feels like
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: it's about J. C. Jackson. Drew writes in I don't
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: know why everyone is focused on Zappy casting Mac aside
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: like a broken toy. We're forgetting Mac Jones is the
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: fifteenth overall pick who when my opinion shows more leadership
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: talent than Zappy so far, even against Bills when we
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: got beat by thirty points, Jones took all the blame
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: regardless of where the fault lies. It's too early to
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: throw in the proverbial towel on mac Jones. When do
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: you said the broken toy? I thought about in Toy
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: Story when Woody was like the main toy and then
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: he ripped a little bit, and then buzz Lightyear came
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: into the pictures. You see people making me regarding this
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: no that memes out there. It's Andy and it's like,
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: I don't want to play with this toy anymore, dropping
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: Woody and it's Max's face. That's pretty funny. But that's
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: instantly what when I when I hear broken toy, the
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: first thing I think of his Rudolph the Red Nose
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: Reindeer in the Island of Misfit Toys. So that's the
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: age difference wanted to be it. Yeah, we watched those
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: Christmas specials too. Yeah, but toy Stors Toy Story, Yeah,
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: that's a classic. Oh yeah, absolutely, uh Nate and Connecticut.
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: I think Max should get his starting job back when
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: he's healthy. He made some really good passes early in
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: the Baltimore game, so I want to see if he
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: can do it again and limit the turnovers. I liked
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: what I saw from him in the Baltimore game. Obviously
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: minds turnovers, but the way he was escaping the pocket
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: getting the extra yardage, I was like, h I haven't
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: seen that from Mac Jones as much, and we saw
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: a lot of that there um, so I would have
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: loved to potentially see him continue to build on that,
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: obviously if he didn't get injured. Johnson Ducksburry, Hey John, Hello, people,
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: everybody a good good I'm gonna go with Jappie, okay,
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: because I think the decision making is better and he's
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: got a better sets, a pocket presence and on loading
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: the pressure then Jones. But I mean, I think it's
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: a tough call because the team's all stuck in the
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: right Well put John Well, lose by twenty three point
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: and you have to benefit of twelve penalties, you're terrible, right, depathetic?
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: But well, I want to ask Paul about that hunt
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: to Henry when he was in the end zone. He
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: could blocked out of the end zone. He can't come
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: back in. No, he can't be the first guy to
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: touch it. And so in other words, if if he
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: had thrown that ball in the defensive back had deflected
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: it and Henry was back in now he can catch it,
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: he would have been that would have been legal. But
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: you can't be the first one touch it. Yeah, he
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: couldn't come back in. Yeah, and the NC double A
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: changed that rule a few years ago where you can
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: re establish yourself, but you can't in the NFL. I
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: mean that makes sense to me, Fred, you're right, Yeah,
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: and Fred, it's not if Jones plays, it's not looking good.
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: He's got a win, because this place will be crazy.
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: Zapp uh. If he loses against the bid that would
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: be the ultimate. Yeah, I mean the circumstances. I mean, like,
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: if he has a really good game in the defense,
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: lets us down, I think people will be it'll be okay.
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: But but if if it's going to happen, if zappay,
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: if the reason they lose is because of turnovers or
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: lack of points, you know, like he's got that thing
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: defense wants to play for. Unfair as it might be,
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: it's gonna be crazy, all right, thanks John, It's going
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: to be crazy, Andy writes in you don't You just
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: don't understand people who pick Zappy. I'm happy to see
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Zappie play well and he can be the backup. Can
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: we just compare Mac last year against garbage teams and
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: Zappy playing Detroit and Cleveland. Mac did very well last
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: year against the garbage, just like Zappy. Now Zappy versus
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: Buffalo tomorrow, do we score touchdown? I think no, Well
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: that's the question touchdown. I would say, yeah, but I
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: don't think you compete. Yeah, um Connor from Reno, I'm
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: team Mac all the way. The best we have looked
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: throwing the ball this season was against Baltimore. Granted he
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: through three interceptions, we looked actually dangerous for three and
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: a half quarters. Zappi, on the other hand, looked good.
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: But it has been against very bad competition. The Zappy
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: mania needs to cool down. It's a nice problem to have,
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: but it's Max's job to lose, I think to a
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: couple of people have mentioned it. The style that Matt
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: came off the field the last time we saw him
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: is hurting his cause a little bit. I don't know,
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: you know, like everyone saw the pictures of going down
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: the stairs, but remember he got up and hopped off
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: on his own like he didn't like that was really
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: man like. He didn't but he didn't roll around in
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: the ground and like he had to, but he got
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: off his own down. I think I may go on
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: to win like super bowls and have an awesome career.
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: I think those memes will still internet never he could
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: lead them to a super Bowl and then when he
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: has like one of those twenty seven sit down super
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: Bowl week, they're gonna go back to that. Alex is
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: absolutely right. How did you overcome this? Um? Let's see Claire.
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: He photos like the most inverse. Everyone Hello marine Marines
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: don here so hello everyone, Hello Matisse. Um, I'm really
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: glad that Zappi is a great number two. Mac, don't
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: rush back, get properly healthy. Sorry. I couldn't call in,
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: but I would have to balance the scales of calls
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: force emails, because I say Mac is number one, Zappie
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: number two. For now at least Mac is pulling away. Yeah,
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: as it should. Bailey had the head start, but I
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: think after the break the emails came in and Mac
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: is pulling away. Come in, David Bethlehem, he says, regarding
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: Breer his comments, McDaniels treated Mac like his favorite kid.
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: Judge and Patricia did not have the same credibility or knowledge.
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: Installing a new scheme added a higher degree of difficulty
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: with an uncoordinated offensive line, and questioning rookie offensive coaching
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: decisions was warranted and correct, So he thinks it was
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: okay for him to ask why extra points? Can someone
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: explain how a zone run scheme is different from old
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: time student body right? Well, a student body, right, they're
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: trying to power block. Yeah, they're not trying to make
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: a crease, right, which I mean right, you're right. You
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: can go to Evan I think tomorrow and he'd probably
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: have a dissertation on it. But time, Yeah, yeah, you
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: kind of just follow your blockers. But at any time,
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: like in that wide zone, it's up to the running
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: back to cut it in whenever he sees that lane. Yeah,
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: you know, get the crease and yeah, either you're taking
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: to the outside or cutting it back, you're taking it up. Um,
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: I don't know what the student body left is. Well,
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: that's just that's that's power football back in like the
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: late sixties. It's a powersett. Everybody gets out of their
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: stance and just goes one way and you just follow
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: the follow the blockers. All right, we're gonna that. It's
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: gonna be it for this edition of Patriots on Filters
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: twenty three to thirteen. Good. Um, that's Tuesday, brought to
