- 0:04Thanks for joining us. Every day is an opportunity to
- 0:07take hold of. So we hope this message inspires
- 0:10you and build your faith that it helps you have more of a God
- 0:13perspective for your day. Enjoy and.
- 0:18If you just want to come and bring a message of faith.
- 0:20To you this morning. So we've got a title tonight's
- 0:23message. I hope most of you're going to
- 0:24be taking notes this morning. It's encouraging us to live a
- 0:28life of active faith, living a life of active faith.
- 0:32And I've got a lot of material because I sort of teach and
- 0:35preach. Can I trust you with my notes?
- 0:39Like I'm not going to get through them all today.
- 0:41But what you can do is I've made them available to you in Word
- 0:44format so that you can click on the link and you can then
- 0:49plagiarize. I mean, you can use them and,
- 0:51and quote me as your source because I think we've got 16
- 0:55students or something here from this church study at the School
- 0:58of Ministries. I love this church with a big
- 1:01focus on discipleship. Get you in the internship,
- 1:05great, a great Monday night activity and then you then we
- 1:08get you into the Upper Room Academy and get you full of the
- 1:10Holy Spirit and power. And then you just want to go
- 1:13change the world. And then it's time for you to do
- 1:15a little bit more structured study with our academic
- 1:19coaching. And then you're really literally
- 1:21ready for ordination to be a man and woman of God to impact your
- 1:26world in every sphere of life. So QR code's going to come up on
- 1:29the screen there. Do you remember QR codes from
- 1:32COVID? It was like the mark of the
- 1:34beast, remember? Anyway, we won't even we won't
- 1:37even go there, but it's a safe. Yeah.
- 1:39My, my QR code's been vaccinated.
- 1:41All right? It's it's So what you do is you
- 1:45get a camera out. You're allowed to use your
- 1:47iPhones in church as long as you're on air airplane mode, All
- 1:50right? That way.
- 1:51Because it's been a good week for Alex this week.
- 1:53He's picked himself up a girlfriend.
- 1:55So, so oh, so sorry. Anyway, it's family.
- 2:00It's family here, isn't it? Anyway, hey God see, God's done
- 2:03a good work in his life so that they're not going to be texting
- 2:06each other in church, right? Like wow, you are a well
- 2:10tabernacled spirit. Well, it's family time here.
- 2:14It's in the lounge room. Focus, Andrew.
- 2:16Focus, focus, focus, focus. There's a QR code here.
- 2:20You get your camera out, put the camera and it should go to a
- 2:23yellow link. Now, this is not an IQ test, but
- 2:26you're having trouble with IT. We've always got Chris Collins
- 2:29in the front row where he's good with technology.
- 2:31He's got a beautiful wife too. Yours not working?
- 2:34All right, we're going to Pastor Graham Polidanski or Rachel and
- 2:38you should come up with something.
- 2:40If you get the code, there's you got something that says like a
- 2:43link tree or how bizarre. What's the very, very good top
- 2:46of the school? What's what's the first thing it
- 2:48says? First option, so there's a
- 2:51course guide there, you see Upper Room Academy videos and
- 2:55stuff. Go right to the bottom.
- 2:56What's the very bottom entry at the bottom of the black?
- 3:00That's my name. So you click on that.
- 3:02This is where the propaganda starts.
- 3:05Come into my little world, my greenhouse.
- 3:08Start with your credit card details.
- 3:10No, so there's podcasts on there, the Flourishing Life
- 3:13podcast. I've got a great guest.
- 3:15There's a great episode recently, Pastor Dave MacDonald
- 3:18and Peter Earl talking about the power of prayer.
- 3:20So you want to learn hardcore prayer.
- 3:21It's a long episode because we have a prayer meeting on there.
- 3:24It just goes hardcore and it literally broke my first seven
- 3:27day record of people listening. But towards the top there, there
- 3:31should be a Word document called preaching notes or whatever.
- 3:34If you've got that fast, you've got an IQ of 120.
- 3:38Click on that, it says open the browser and you should have the
- 3:41notes. Once you notes, you want to yell
- 3:44out got it, got it, got it, got it, got it.
- 3:47Well, I don't have to preach today.
- 3:48Now you've got all the notes, but I want us to talk.
- 3:53I really am so impressed about next Saturday night because I
- 3:58want, I want to talk to us about faith this morning.
- 4:03I want to talk to you about your faith and how your faith can get
- 4:07stronger and stronger. Talk to the Romans.
- 4:10One if you read. It from the New King James
- 4:12Version, the Apostle Paul encourages us to go from faith
- 4:17to faith. It's like stand climbing up
- 4:20steps in a staircase. We're going to go from faith to
- 4:23faith and there's 5 levels of faith.
- 4:26I want to encourage us about this morning because next week
- 4:30there's going to be hurting people from our wonderful
- 4:32community going to come forward. And then we're going to pray.
- 4:36There's going to be an atmosphere of faith.
- 4:38You've been praying and fasting. There's going to be a canopy of
- 4:41faith. That's what I saw coming in when
- 4:43I was coming in here this morning.
- 4:45It's going to come under a canopy of faith.
- 4:46And what happens is the minute people start even walking on the
- 4:50property, all of a sudden people's doubts are going to
- 4:53start to disappear because because you're people of faith.
- 4:58But when we pray, we're just not going to just pray and lay hands
- 5:02on people because this is what we do.
- 5:03We're going to pray and I'm going to encourage you to pray
- 5:05in faith because it's just not prayers.
- 5:09They're going to bring healing and breakthrough.
- 5:11It's prayers prayed in faith and a faith in God.
- 5:16What I want to do is get you even to start your praying and
- 5:19moving from praying to declaring and to decreeing.
- 5:23And like we have tremendous power in our tongue to bring
- 5:27literally heaven onto onto earth.
- 5:30So the the writer of Hebrews, Hebrews 11 verse 6 says, and
- 5:34without faith it is impossible to please God.
- 5:39This is a family that wants to please God, that is pleasing
- 5:42God. But I don't know about you, but
- 5:45I I've walked with God a long time and I've had friends with
- 5:48me on some part of the journey and some who don't, they've
- 5:51fallen away side because they've lost faith or fallen out of
- 5:54faith or they've jettisoned their faith.
- 5:56They haven't held on tightly, haven't held on tightly to the
- 6:00harness of faith to hold on because this is how you're going
- 6:04to go from season to season, from faith to faith, from step
- 6:08to step to faith. Now I've been meditating on this
- 6:11and this is something that I've found in my prayer journal
- 6:13because there was a season in my life where I'd started right at
- 6:17these declaration because I just realized how important my faith
- 6:22is. Without faith, we know it's
- 6:24impossible to please God, but without faith, it's impossible
- 6:28to live the life I meant to live in relationship with Jesus
- 6:32Christ under that dynamic life flow.
- 6:34So this is what I put. Here's what a couple of
- 6:36declarations. Jesus, my faith in you is
- 6:39precious. My faith enables me to connect
- 6:44with you and your power. My faith in you means that I
- 6:48what I trust, I trust you. My faith in you means I believe
- 6:54your word is true regardless of what the context and the
- 6:58circumstances are, which could be completely the opposite to
- 7:03what you were saying or have said to me.
- 7:06My wife and I know what it's like to be childless.
- 7:09For years, God gave us a promise her womb would be open and a
- 7:14miracle child would come forward.
- 7:17For years we wrestled with that and we had, she had to literally
- 7:20walk a fight of faith to see the word of God, the seed of faith
- 7:28come to full fruition. Wonderful.
- 7:30When beautiful Katie Rose was born in December 1995, family of
- 7:35four boys. Then I had a girl didn't know
- 7:37what to do. It was awesome.
- 7:38And she started choosing my clothes from the age of 18
- 7:41months. Wonderful.
- 7:42Daughter's about to turn 30 and I think she's just picked up a
- 7:46boyfriend recently. All right, so he's just just
- 7:48great. But then I always wanted a son.
- 7:52And God, I really felt like God promised me my faith.
- 7:55I want to give you a son. And at my last month of Bible
- 7:59college, God just said it was prophesied.
- 8:02I'm going to make up something that's very dear to your heart.
- 8:05As a matter of fact, God's already answered your prayer.
- 8:07My wife was pregnant. It's wonderful.
- 8:11And it was Jethro's wedding on Thursday.
- 8:14So like, I know it, like I'm preaching this stuff this
- 8:18morning. That's why I've got grey hair.
- 8:21This stuff can be a wrestle sometimes.
- 8:24But but your faith friend is precious.
- 8:26Turn your neighbor and say your faith is precious.
- 8:29Your faith is important. Is that you, Steve?
- 8:33Is that Steve? No, Alan.
- 8:37Alan. Alan, Steve.
- 8:38For those of you who know YouTube, No, sorry Alan, my
- 8:43faith is precious. Faith is essential to prayer.
- 8:46On social media this week, some left wing ideologue commentators
- 8:52were mocking a Christian leader. They said.
- 8:54Oh. He's just talking to his
- 8:55imaginary friend Jesus, mocking, mocking the truth.
- 9:00But when you know Jesus Christ, when you know him to be real,
- 9:04you know him to be real. You have an active faith because
- 9:09your faith is precious. Your faith is the bedrock of our
- 9:13ongoing relationship with God all throughout the Bible,
- 9:17especially the Apostle Paul's talking about this idea of
- 9:20holding on to our faith. Do not throw away our
- 9:22confidence. Do not throw away our hard
- 9:25gained faith, our gift of faith from God because it is precious.
- 9:29Even have a look. This is one of the first verses
- 9:31I ever memorized as a young teenager.
- 9:33It's Galatians 220. Have a look at the Passion
- 9:36paraphrase. It's awesome wording.
- 9:38He says it's my old identity because I'm a spiritual being
- 9:43having a physical experience here on planet earth.
- 9:47The trouble is the flesh gets in the way of my spirit man having
- 9:51a relationship with God. So this is battle, but God gives
- 9:54us keys in the relationship of Jesus.
- 9:56My old identity has been what Co crucified which is death.
- 10:01There has to be an active daily dying.
- 10:04The apostle Paul says I die daily or I literally take off
- 10:09the persona of the spiritual man, I mean the fleshly man with
- 10:13all its desires and lusts and I focus and activate on the area
- 10:18of the 4th dimension, the spirit realm, my spirit man which is
- 10:21the realm of faith, which is the realm which pleases God.
- 10:25It's been Co crucified with the Messiah and no longer lives for
- 10:29the nails of his cross crucified me with him and now the essence
- 10:35of this new life is no longer mine.
- 10:37For the anointed One lives his life through me.
- 10:40We live in union as one. My new life is empowered by what
- 10:47the faith of the Son of God who loves me so much that he gave
- 10:51himself for me and dispenses his life into mine.
- 10:56Galatians 220 look at the CEVI have died, but Christ lives in
- 11:02me and I now live what by faith in the Son of God who loved me
- 11:08and gave his life for me. Here's an example where we see
- 11:12our faith, our precious faith, transforming our old identity
- 11:17and giving us a new life and deep connection with Jesus
- 11:21Christ. Faith is essential to living
- 11:24well with God. I remember this clearly when
- 11:28when I was at Bible college, I was a youth worker and we worked
- 11:32with troubled kids from diverse backgrounds in low socio
- 11:35economic areas and we took them out to the Gregory Terrace
- 11:39Outdoor Education Centre. And when you're dealing with
- 11:42people with different education needs and learning challenges,
- 11:45you have to communicate in different ways.
- 11:47So we did this thing called adventure based counselling or
- 11:49group dynamics challenge in the outdoors.
- 11:52Things like high ropes courses, low ropes courses, soft
- 11:56challenge, hard challenge and then group debriefing and
- 12:00processing around a a campfire. It worked brilliantly.
- 12:04So I would take all my young people on and we'd just go
- 12:07weekends away. It's an amazing transforming
- 12:09experience. We had about 8 or 9 challenges,
- 12:12but the peace Dear resistance, the last one is a challenge
- 12:16called the the Americans called the Pamper Pole.
- 12:20Now pampering America means nappy.
- 12:24So it's like it's the nappy pole.
- 12:25It's it's, it's a real challenge what it is it's a very tall
- 12:28Telegraph pole and you have to climb up.
- 12:31They put a harness on you and then they connect a rope to you.
- 12:35And I think, thank God, there's a safety rope on this thing.
- 12:38So you get saddled up with a rope.
- 12:40They get this carabiner and they connect it up to you and they.
- 12:46Yeah, you've got the idea anyway.
- 12:50They hook you up and you climb up this pole and there's this
- 12:53little platform no bigger than the size of basically just two,
- 12:57two feet. So you climb up there.
- 13:00And so so I was ever up there going, you can do a breath.
- 13:03You're awesome. You're a legend.
- 13:04You know, you're breaking stuff in your life.
- 13:06You're getting confidence. And my mate Rod said, hey,
- 13:09Stagsy, you want to have a go? You want to get there.
- 13:10Oh, no, it's all right. Let the young fellas have a bit
- 13:12of a go. It's all right.
- 13:14So anyway, after a while, mate, he goes, mate, I I reckon you
- 13:17could nail that, mate. I mean, you just show these
- 13:19young fellas what it's like. Oh, OK, mate.
- 13:21Yeah. All right.
- 13:22Next thing, I'm halfway up the pole and it's a long pole.
- 13:25It's, oh, it's starting to sway. I finally get up.
- 13:28It takes me about 20 minutes to get to the top and then stand on
- 13:31this little platform. The idea, as you can see from
- 13:35the picture here, you stand on this this platform and out the
- 13:38out the front is a trapeze, a triangle.
- 13:40And So what they do is they get a bit of rope and they work out
- 13:43how far it is that you can jump out and you've got to grab the
- 13:46trapeze. And So what happens is there's
- 13:49no net underneath, but thank God there's a rope that which should
- 13:53be shackled onto here to help saviour.
- 13:55So what we did was we saw all morning guys, some miss and some
- 14:00some achieve. So I'm, I'm up there and I'm on
- 14:04this pole and I'm just thinking, and as I'm thinking, and then
- 14:07I'm sort of lowering down thinking like a powerful thighs.
- 14:10This is going to be awesome spring.
- 14:12And they put the bar out there and the sun's sparkling down on
- 14:16this stainless steel bar. And I'd say it's going to be
- 14:19about probably 3 meters out in front of me.
- 14:22So I start the spring and so I just start to test.
- 14:31And as I start to do some fake springing, I see the sort of
- 14:34pole begin to wobble. I think, oh, I'm going to have
- 14:36to overcompensate for this anyway after.
- 14:39A series of. 10 to 15 minutes. I remember just visualizing that
- 14:44bar. I thought I got hope on a rope.
- 14:48This is going to be awesome. And I just you, you should have
- 14:53seen me. It was awesome then.
- 14:57Like a tiger and I just remember in everything in slow motion and
- 15:05then the next thing I know I grabbed the bar, seal the bar
- 15:09and it's like whoo, you know, right from deep and he's like,
- 15:14and then they lowered me down. Everyone's high fiving me and
- 15:17stuff like that. I just remember it's the most
- 15:19amazing experience. But literally, I had to put all
- 15:23my faith, had to fight in a harness with the rope of hope
- 15:28that it would save me. It was in.
- 15:30The most amazing, exhilarating experience is that day I
- 15:34overcame a series of obstacles that I didn't realise were
- 15:37lurking around in my life, like I overcame ignorance.
- 15:41That day there was a lack of knowledge about my ability.
- 15:44I overcame an unbelief that day because I overcame a sense of a
- 15:49lack of trust that was in my life for my abilities.
- 15:52I remember I overcame doubt that day because I became aware of a
- 15:56lack of certainty that was lurking around in the depths of
- 15:59my soul. I remember that time I overcame
- 16:02fear and anxiety and I overcame distance.
- 16:05There was a sense of a distance between me and my ability to to,
- 16:09to achieve epic things with an an adrenaline rush.
- 16:13And I tell you this story to let you know this is a bit like what
- 16:17our faith is. And sometimes faith is the gap
- 16:20between where we are and where God is calling us to be.
- 16:24And sometimes it just takes a giant, literally a leap of
- 16:28faith, trusting in the abilities, God's deep work
- 16:32within us and trusting in his power to get us to where he
- 16:36wants to become. I began to realise I was just so
- 16:40aware of the essential nature of my faith in Jesus Christ and my
- 16:44faith is literally like a hope on a rope.
- 16:47Some of us grew up with soap on a rope.
- 16:49This is not soap on a rope, this is hope on a rope.
- 16:52So this idea of faith and our launching pad, pardon the pun,
- 16:56our launching pad is Hebrews 11 verse one which I mentioned
- 17:00before. It says this now faith is what
- 17:03being sure faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain
- 17:10of what we do not see. I love the message.
- 17:13It says this the fundamental act of existence is that this trust
- 17:18in God, this faith is the what a firm foundation under everything
- 17:24that makes life worth living. It's our what handle is this
- 17:29great language. It's a handle.
- 17:31It's a substance. It's being sure the amplified
- 17:34says this now, faith is what the assurance it is, the
- 17:39confirmation, it is the title deed.
- 17:44You can own a house, you can be renting it out and bikies are
- 17:48living there. They may be destroying your
- 17:50house, but you're the owner of that because you have the title
- 17:53deed. You may have a promise from God,
- 17:56a gift of faith. It may look like there's bikies
- 18:00or someone squatting on your promise, but God says you own
- 18:03that and one day you will take full possession of it.
- 18:06God is at work through the faith that He's placed within us.
- 18:10It's of the things we hope for is the proof of things we do not
- 18:14see and what the conviction of their reality.
- 18:17Faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the
- 18:22senses. NLT says this faith is the
- 18:24confidence of what we hope for will actually happen.
- 18:27It gives us assurance about things that we cannot see.
- 18:31Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence
- 18:34of things not seen. ESV says it's the assurance of
- 18:37things hoped for and it's a conviction.
- 18:39You get the idea. A little further, on the Hebrews
- 18:42Chapter 11, we see almost 40 verses where people in the Old
- 18:46Testament are commended for their faith.
- 18:49Their faith is doesn't actually see the full fruition in their
- 18:55lifetime. Like Abraham is known as the
- 18:58father of faith and you and I are an example of the outworking
- 19:02of the promise that was given to him so many, many thousands of
- 19:05years ago. It's an amazing thing.
- 19:07Your faith is precious because God is deep at work within you.
- 19:13Faith is being sure, it is being certain.
- 19:17We have this absolute assurance that is within us.
- 19:21I remember my daughter in a very dark period of her life, which
- 19:25is, I only recently found out the full implication of what
- 19:29was. Driving the pain and I almost
- 19:32lost it twice in a month. It was a very dark time for our
- 19:36family, but God gave me a promise out of Isaiah 61.
- 19:41Your children, the nations will see that your children are
- 19:46blessed of the Lord. And I just.
- 19:49Remember holding on to that, doing a 40 day fast, believing,
- 19:54just basically depriving myself of food as an act of faith,
- 19:58standing in the gap for my daughter now to see her you, you
- 20:01wouldn't even like she's been in an emotional head on smash and
- 20:06she's been panel beater. You wouldn't even know there'd
- 20:08been any work that that that that had ever been done, any
- 20:11tragedy in her life. It's an amazing thing.
- 20:14This is the depth of the assurance and the conviction
- 20:17that God has got us. It says this, that we have faith
- 20:21not in ourselves or in karma or in good coffee.
- 20:25We have faith in God. faith in God who saves, God who gives
- 20:31life, God who speaks destiny and purpose in our life.
- 20:35Faith must begin with the fact that God is and nothing can be
- 20:39known of God unless a person first believes that God is.
- 20:44God is faith. Faith is essential because when
- 20:48God speaks to you. Faith comes because it is the
- 20:52spoken word of God. Quickly in your notes I put
- 20:57here, why is your faith important?
- 20:58Faith is vital because it enables us to connect with God
- 21:01in God's power. Without faith, I I cannot know
- 21:05that God is real and I cannot feel a connection and a life
- 21:09flow coming in with that. My faith enables me to receive
- 21:12guidance from the Holy Spirit. I can trust His guidance and His
- 21:15wisdom. It doesn't happen magically.
- 21:17It happens when I open up a channel of faith and say, God, I
- 21:20believe you. I don't see it, but I'm trusting
- 21:23you to speak in the building of my life #3 my faith helps me to
- 21:28have victory over sin. Living Christ Jesus within me
- 21:33gives me the power to overcome temptation and to live in sin
- 21:38and to draw down His righteousness.
- 21:41When your body and your life and your spirit is wracked with
- 21:45guilt and shame, you know nothing, no matter what you do,
- 21:49can eradicate that unless by faith you accept God's free gift
- 21:53of salvation and He can cleanse you.
- 21:56What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
- 22:06Now you think what's blood like once you get the symbolic and
- 22:10there's a sacrifice or whatever. But I know if you're here this
- 22:12morning, I believe Holy Spirit right now if you are not walking
- 22:16in relationship with God. God is an act of faith.
- 22:19He's given us all the measure of faith.
- 22:21Some of you are resonating right now.
- 22:22That's me. I don't understand the blood or
- 22:25whatever, but I can feel and sense that there's hope that the
- 22:27God is wanting to and has the ability to reach into my heart
- 22:30and mind right now. And by faith I can access that
- 22:33free gift and I can be clean and I can behold and my life can be
- 22:37free from guilt and shame in Jesus name.
- 22:41My faith helps me experience God's peace in challenging
- 22:45circumstances, trusting that he is control that God's got this
- 22:50is I can only access that by faith and and the fifth thing is
- 22:53praying. My faith is essential for
- 22:56effective prayer, believing that God hears and God answers
- 22:59prayers. The Bible says in Psalms that
- 23:02even a sigh when you don't even have words.
- 23:06A sigh is considered a prayer. God bottles up our tears as
- 23:11expressions of faith and he answers them.
- 23:13Another version I think is Isaiah 32 that says God answers
- 23:17speedily. There's another version, a Bible
- 23:20verse that says that God even answers our prayers.
- 23:22Before we pray them. That's awesome.
- 23:25What about the prayers that God still hasn't answered yet?
- 23:27Well, I'll come to that in a minute moment.
- 23:29God is at work within our life and we activate His presence
- 23:33through faith. Mark 1124 says therefore Jesus
- 23:37says wherever I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer,
- 23:39believe that you have received it and it will be yours quickly.
- 23:43A couple of laws of faith on the screen.
- 23:45Your faith is a spiritual force. No wonder the devil is trying to
- 23:51steal it. Somebody said if the garage was
- 23:53having it, if the devil was having a garage sale and getting
- 23:56rid of all these tools, the only tool that he would not sell is
- 24:00the tool of doubt. He knows as long as there's
- 24:03doubt there, it will start like cancer.
- 24:05It will just nobble away at your faith because he now realises
- 24:09your, your faith is precious and your faith is a spiritual force.
- 24:14So next weekend, the people in this community who don't know
- 24:17anything about this, they're going to be leveraging off your
- 24:19faith. Your faith is a spiritual force.
- 24:23It's going to break chains. Generational bondages are going
- 24:26to break. Next week a chain reaction is
- 24:28going to start because your faith is a spiritual force #2
- 24:33faith. I love this.
- 24:34Faith is God giving you the ability to see what He can do?
- 24:43Wish I was holding a microphone now I could drop it.
- 24:48Doctor Elmer Towns look at this for definition of faith.
- 24:51It's a positive, correct response to God's revelation.
- 24:58We're going to go through the names of God and the team, the
- 25:00worship team. We've already started to go
- 25:02through them today. Well done, Matt.
- 25:05Matt. Matt where?
- 25:06Are you studying you you studying Bible college?
- 25:07Where? Where are you studying?
- 25:10CHC? Oh, CHC.
- 25:12There's a there's a free product placement going through the
- 25:15names of God because that's God's revelation of himself.
- 25:17There's 85 different names of God, which I've counted up 85
- 25:21facets. If he's wondering the way that
- 25:23he can express his power, one of them is he's.
- 25:24A God who heals. So faith is a what?
- 25:28A positive, correct response to God's revelation.
- 25:32God says I'm a healing guy. He's demonstrated it.
- 25:35Yet. There'll be some people in our
- 25:36community next week who come and go.
- 25:38Yeah. Nah.
- 25:40Yeah, Nah. There's some versions of church
- 25:43going on today in this city which will go.
- 25:46Yeah. Nah, stop.
- 25:48Stopped at Acts 28. Yeah.
- 25:50Nah. Where are people of faith?
- 25:53Where are people of an active faith?
- 25:55My guess is there may be people who come in here next Saturday
- 25:57night. Yeah, Nah.
- 25:58But when they get in here in this room under a canopy of
- 26:02faith, all their objections will disappear and they're going to
- 26:06go. I don't know what's happened.
- 26:08Because faith, friends, is not a logical thing.
- 26:10It's an act of the Spirit. It's an act of the will.
- 26:12When we part and with God #4 faith is not measured by your
- 26:16intellect, emotion, or will, or how much you know.
- 26:21It is not how deeply you feel or how decisively you act.
- 26:24Faith is measured by God and His ability to do what you ask.
- 26:29Faith is dependent on the integrity of God.
- 26:32Because it says that God honors his word above his name.
- 26:37God says I am the God who heals you.
- 26:40I am the God who forgives your sin.
- 26:43It says in one John 3, Even if our heart condemns us, God is
- 26:46greater than our heart. Regardless of what we think #5
- 26:49I'm to grow and live from faith to faith, which is Romans 117.
- 26:53I mentioned that before. And when I live by faith, I live
- 26:56by the principles of the word of God.
- 26:58So you get the idea. Faith is essential.
- 27:01So this morning there's five refractions.
- 27:04And somebody gave me this. They saw me preach and they
- 27:06prophesied and said. Andrew, you're like a prism and
- 27:09you refract the light of God and they they spend a lot of money.
- 27:13It comes all wrapped in velvet. Anyway, I'm here to show you to
- 27:15say that I'm going to talk about the refractions of faith.
- 27:19Can some of you see that If it goes through the light properly,
- 27:22we should see all the colours of the rainbow.
- 27:25If you're lucky, you might even see some unicorns while you're
- 27:27there. We might find a pot of gold at
- 27:29the end. But basically there's a number
- 27:31of colours on the spectrum. It's the same light, but it's
- 27:35reflect refracted through a prism.
- 27:37And it's the same with our faith.
- 27:39Our faith has a series of refractions or different
- 27:42expressions or different elements of the same light
- 27:45expressing or manifesting itself in different way.
- 27:49So there's five refractions of faith I want to quickly mention
- 27:52today. The first one is it's saving
- 27:54faith. Step one in our journey is a
- 27:58staircase of faith is saving faith.
- 28:01And this is believing in Jesus for salvation based on God's
- 28:05gracious. Gift to us.
- 28:09It's God-given, it's an act of faith, for salvation means that
- 28:13we then obtain a spiritual life. We obtain salvation by faith.
- 28:21At that moment. It says we are justified, which
- 28:24really means it's just as if I'd never sinned before.
- 28:28We are made right when we activate saving faith and when
- 28:32we say yes to Jesus. A note to our old life and you
- 28:36actually say I'm under new Management Today.
- 28:38Jesus is the Lord of my life. At that moment you get a deposit
- 28:42of Holy Spirit living within you and.
- 28:45Basically, it's a it's a down payment.
- 28:47It's a guarantee that when time stops and eternity kicks in, you
- 28:51will go to heaven to be with Him.
- 28:53It's a wonderful thought. So we have Jesus and Holy Spirit
- 28:57living within us. We have a deposit of his Spirit
- 29:00and it's that's when we obtain spiritual blessings and favour.
- 29:04It says in John one that is many of us who've called on his name.
- 29:09It gives us the right to become the children of God.
- 29:13This is level 1. This is refraction #1 it's
- 29:17called saving faith. And that's a great place.
- 29:20For us to start. And I'd say before I finish,
- 29:24I'm. Going to give you an
- 29:25opportunity. To say, oh, I want a bit of
- 29:28that. I want to pull the lever.
- 29:29I want to, I want to go to the first step.
- 29:31I want to activate and move into the dimension of saving faith
- 29:34and accept God's free gift to salvation.
- 29:37The second refraction is this. It's the fruit of faith or
- 29:40faithfulness. This is the fruit of faith.
- 29:43This is evidence that we've received saving.
- 29:46Faith. We have a new life, a new
- 29:48nature, and over time we will have a changing character.
- 29:52This is the process of transformation.
- 29:54It's beautiful. What you start to see is the
- 29:56character qualities of a new nature.
- 29:58The nature of Jesus are articulated in a couple of
- 30:02verses where Paul writes about what he calls the 9 fruit of the
- 30:05spirit. There is there is a
- 30:07manifestations or fruit. You know someone who's been a
- 30:10Christian a long time, they just smell good, don't they?
- 30:15They just, if you known someone who in their old life, you see
- 30:19them now, they're often kinder, more patient, more sweeter, like
- 30:25it's just a beautiful thing watching the transformation.
- 30:28Like I remember my brother, 323 of my brothers a long, long way
- 30:34away from God when they said yes to Jesus, activate saving faith.
- 30:37You look at them 10 years out, they are completely different
- 30:40people. That's what it says in Two
- 30:42Corinthians 517. Anyone who is in Christ becomes
- 30:45a new creation. They've been transformed.
- 30:48This is what I'm talking about here, the evidence of
- 30:50faithfulness. So one of the one of the one of
- 30:52the 9 through the Spirit is this faithfulness.
- 30:56The Greek word is translated faithful, trustworthy, reliable
- 31:04or dependable. If you take some old or old or
- 31:06fashioned versions of the Bible, it says we use the word
- 31:10fidelity. It means to be loyal and
- 31:12trustworthy in one's dealings with others.
- 31:15It's a beautiful thought. Imagine this community, they
- 31:18say. Oh, the people who've been
- 31:20around City Point North for a while.
- 31:22They are a faithful group of people.
- 31:26They have gone the distance they do the time as a fruit of the
- 31:29Spirit. Faithfulness is the character
- 31:32quality produced by the Spirit of complete reliability.
- 31:36This means that you and I will be faithful in our service.
- 31:39Our word can unreservedly be accepted.
- 31:43They are loyal and trustworthy in their relationships or
- 31:46dealing with others they are unswervingly faithful to.
- 31:50Jesus to friends, if we had say we have faith in God.
- 31:55Then it must over time be displayed by the character
- 31:57quality of faithfulness, a supernatural fruit of the new
- 32:01nature produced by the spirits work in our lives.
- 32:05A colleague in my network died this week, Alan Lucas.
- 32:09He ran real estate businesses in the Redlands.
- 32:12He was a man you should see in the eulogy.
- 32:14He was known as a man. You could trust his word.
- 32:20We all know that real estate agents have different
- 32:23reputations just like car used car salesman do.
- 32:27Alan said this three strikes, three lies and you no longer
- 32:30work for me because he believed in the through the spirit of
- 32:35faith, there are faithfulness and that we should be true to
- 32:38our word. The third reflection of faith is
- 32:41the gift of faith in One Corinthians 12 Paul.
- 32:44This what we Spirit filled Pentecostals call the 9 gifts of
- 32:47the Holy Spirit. And these are 9 divine
- 32:50enablements of the Spirit for supernatural ministry which can
- 32:54operate either in the public gatherings of Christians or
- 32:57through Christians involved in gospel ministry through 7 days
- 33:00of the week. In verse 9 we read that one of
- 33:03these gifts is faith by the same Spirit.
- 33:07So some would say this is a manifestation, an expression of
- 33:10the Spirit is known as the gift of faith.
- 33:12I love this dimension. This is the third refraction.
- 33:15Refraction. And this is the gift that we're
- 33:18going to need next Saturday night and next Sunday night.
- 33:22It's a supernatural faith. It's a special faith.
- 33:25It's a faith given by the Holy Spirit.
- 33:28It's a gift or manifestation from the Spirit so we can ask
- 33:32God for it. It's an enablement of faith from
- 33:34the Holy Spirit. It's a supernatural endowment of
- 33:37faith from the Spirit at a specific time for a specific
- 33:40person, but for a particular purpose.
- 33:43It's just not faith in God, but it is faith from God, or it is
- 33:47the faith of God. It's a divine endowment of faith
- 33:52to know, to do, or to receive the will of God.
- 33:56Friends, there is a difference between the prayer of faith and
- 34:00the. Exercise of faith and the gift
- 34:01of faith. Faith is this gift of faith
- 34:05manifests itself like this in the next 7 days.
- 34:08Some of you may be praying and believing sex Saturday night.
- 34:12Next Sunday night you're going to see someone row 3 fur one
- 34:16back. There'd be someone wearing a red
- 34:18jacket with a red jacket with a with a purple shirt with dots on
- 34:21it. God will give you a picture of
- 34:23it and then all of a sudden you like you don't make this stuff
- 34:27up. God on his supernatural ability
- 34:30will put an impression on us and you'll know God says I want to
- 34:34work in that person in their right arm.
- 34:36They've got a tumor there. They've got surgery next week.
- 34:40I want to shrivel that thing up. That's that's literally when you
- 34:43you don't actually. Have to make.
- 34:45That up, you don't actually have to conjure up any faith.
- 34:48All you got to do is pray because at that moment you then
- 34:51have the faith of God. You know what God wants to do in
- 34:54that particular person. And I just think that's awesome.
- 34:57So I'm trying as much in my life and I pray this God moved me to
- 35:01the dimension of this gift of faith.
- 35:04Where it's like I'm not having to prime the pump, I'm just
- 35:06channeling and coming the frequency and coming alongside
- 35:09you. So I'm saying, God, you want to
- 35:11do that in that body, I'll come and I'll pray in partnership
- 35:13with that. And I believe and I know that
- 35:15God wants to heal. I know that God's good.
- 35:17I know that the House of God is the House of miracles.
- 35:20And nothing's impossible for God in this place.
- 35:22Come on, let's do it. Some of you want to get The Time
- 35:24Machine. Go hurry up and let's have next
- 35:26Saturday night right now. So I'd encourage you this week
- 35:29start to believe and pray, especially for people you
- 35:32invite. You wouldn't be surprised.
- 35:33Something going to get coffee this week and someone's going to
- 35:36say oh. I'm having a bad day.
- 35:39My mum's just been diagnosed with something and and you're
- 35:42going to have to work out what comes out of your mouth next.
- 35:44You've got a brochure ready in your hand or whatever.
- 35:47Can I just say that I don't want to sound freaky, but.
- 35:50I, I I. We're, we're praying for things
- 35:52like that and we believe God could do something good.
- 35:55So you've got to be ready to do your bit because even right now,
- 35:57God's already got he, he knows what he's doing next week with
- 36:01it, with the full expression of what he wants to do depends or
- 36:04not whether we're on the frequency and we're moving to
- 36:06this refraction of faith, which is the gift of faith.
- 36:10I, I love this, this area of interventional faith.
- 36:13This is the level of faith where one of my mentors, Mike, his son
- 36:18Paul, had a brain tumour and at the time the top neurosurgeon at
- 36:24the PA hospital was Doctor Lee Atkinson and they had a series
- 36:28of consultations. That morning.
- 36:30Mike and Wendy got up to pray and Mike was reading the
- 36:34scriptures and got a verse that says my son will be healed, he's
- 36:39going to behold and saw a picture of Paul married with a
- 36:42couple of kids. Amazing.
- 36:45So he, he, he. That morning in the wood had
- 36:48literally believed he had something from God.
- 36:50He was moving in the the the area, the dimension, the third
- 36:54level of the gift of faith, the intervention faith, Doctor Lee
- 36:59Atkinson said. Mike and Wendy, I'm a good
- 37:02surgeon. In fact, I'm a great surgeon.
- 37:05But I think you need to prepare yourself for the worst.
- 37:10Yeah, Mike said. Level 3 noted but not accepted.
- 37:15Noted, but not accepted. This is why we need to have a
- 37:19living, active faith, friends, because otherwise you're going
- 37:21to be sideswiped by the pressures of everyday life.
- 37:25And it can. Hammer us from time to time,
- 37:27can't it? We just need to know.
- 37:29We need to move at this level. The 4th level is the era of
- 37:31trusting faith. This is more than simply
- 37:34believing. It also incorporates this
- 37:37element of trust, the appropriate responsive, active
- 37:41right responsive. And expecting, believing should
- 37:46be trust. In Scripture, to trust can mean
- 37:50the following. To wholeheartedly depend, to
- 37:53lean on, to take refuge in, to hope, to have confidence in.
- 38:00Faith is based. On our relationship of trust and
- 38:03as a result of knowing the person of Jesus Christ.
- 38:08Proverbs 3 five verse 5 says there's trust in the Lord with
- 38:11all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
- 38:16Verse 6 in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make
- 38:19your path straight. Trusting God is the heart and
- 38:24soul of the faith that centres on our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 38:29This is the tough area of faith. I love the ZAP and the bells and
- 38:33the whistles. This is what I would call even
- 38:36call the grind of faith. This is the fight of faith.
- 38:39This relationship of trust says it's irrespective of what has
- 38:42happened, is happening, or will happen.
- 38:45God cannot be inconsistent with His nature, His character, His
- 38:49promises, or His word on the basis of the blood that was shed
- 38:54by Jesus and his resurrection with the dead.
- 38:57I am now, He is, and He is mine. He lives in me and I in Him.
- 39:02And because he is love completely faithful and true, I
- 39:05declare God. You are a good God who has my
- 39:09ultimate good in mind and I trust in you, friend.
- 39:14This is the the faith of the dark night of the soul.
- 39:19This is the faith of Job, who under extreme pressure, I've got
- 39:24to admit Job's a pretty sad book.
- 39:26I remember the season God said, I want you to read the book of
- 39:28Job. I said I don't think we want to
- 39:29do that. You when you realize it, it's
- 39:34just two bad years in a life of 120 years, it's 22 bad years, 2
- 39:39very bad years, bad, bad years. But there comes to a moment
- 39:43where the pressure is so great and even his Christian or
- 39:46believer friends around him are giving him advice and it's a bit
- 39:50rough. But this is what happens.
- 39:53Just him and him and God and Job goes this level of trusting
- 39:57faith. God, even if you slay me.
- 40:01Yeah, well, I trust you. This is the faith of Jesus in
- 40:05Gethsemane. Not my will, but yours.
- 40:10This is the faith where you know God.
- 40:12This is the faith where sometimes it takes years or
- 40:14decades for something to come to pass that God has promised.
- 40:18This is the faith where we hold on, friend.
- 40:21Now this is the dimension where when this service is closed and
- 40:25we always close with a big woo Hoo, but some of you are
- 40:28carrying heavy burdens today. And after the service is closed,
- 40:31I'm happy to stay down the front and, and I'll pray with you if
- 40:35you're carrying something and you just need a bit of a push.
- 40:38I just know this. There are many people who I've
- 40:41leaned on from time to time and I'm saying, look, I'm not strong
- 40:44enough in this area. Can I, can I rent?
- 40:46Can I rent or borrow some of your faith right now?
- 40:49Because this is what the family of God does.
- 40:52We stand with each other. And for some of you, you may
- 40:54need myself or some of the team to come and do that and I'd be
- 40:56happy to do that. Level 5 quickly is the life of
- 41:00the lifestyle of faith. And this, the New Testament
- 41:03teaches that our whole Christian walk should be characterized by
- 41:06faith in Two Corinthians 5 or 7 pulpits that we live by faith
- 41:11and not by sight. So as believers, we must move
- 41:15from small faith to great faith, from weak faith to strong faith,
- 41:20from acts of faith to a life of faith.
- 41:23I remember the first time God said, I want you to leave this
- 41:27job. I was first one from my family,
- 41:30educated, first one to go from university.
- 41:32I'm studying to be an accountant.
- 41:34I'm a trained accountant. I'm in good jobs.
- 41:36God says to me, Andrew, I want you to give that up and I want
- 41:39you to work part time and I want you to go set up a youth group
- 41:42and plant a church like it takes me four months.
- 41:46I need to have dinner with 10 mentors, fast for 30 days, get
- 41:51100 scriptures. That all.
- 41:52Line up, get my bank balance organised Excel spreadsheet.
- 41:56And then I think tippy toe, I might just take a little tippy
- 42:00toe of faith. Like like that's what happens
- 42:02when you first start off now, like we're talking harness of
- 42:06faith type stuff. I'm on the edge.
- 42:08God says jump and you go like that.
- 42:12Like this is what grey hair does.
- 42:14It just you learn to make bigger decisions quicker.
- 42:19I love grey hair. Some of the young guys say, oh
- 42:20bastard, Andrew, you're a bit old man.
- 42:22No, I just can make, I can make the big decisions.
- 42:25He's quicker than you. You got three months of fasting,
- 42:28man. I just say, Yep, let's go with
- 42:30that. That's what that's what.
- 42:32And you move towards a lifestyle of faith.
- 42:34You can move on a big thing. So I can believe God for all
- 42:36sorts of stuff. Now, Jacket, Pastor Graham and
- 42:39Mel can believe God for buildings and property.
- 42:41How many times this place being flooded and blown up, whatever.
- 42:44Yeah, that's nothing. That's a walk in the park.
- 42:45We overcome that. Let's take on another campus.
- 42:48All of a sudden, Bribie Island pops up.
- 42:50See the flood? The flood was just getting you
- 42:52ready to take on more campuses. All right, you look back right,
- 42:56probably now and go what was I worried about it.
- 42:57I was a source of our masters in faith.
- 42:59Now just get yourself a. Bigger harness mate, that's what
- 43:02you need to do. So here we are, saving faith,
- 43:04the fruit of faith and faith on us, Gift of faith, trusting
- 43:07faith or lifestyle of faith. Hey, we better stand up.
- 43:10We better land the plane you're looking forward to next week.
- 43:15I just feel like I'm John the Baptist coming along, just
- 43:18providing a bit of support, getting you ready.
- 43:21Jesus is going to come. He's the seven names of God,
- 43:24Jehovah Jireh. He's going to provide Rafa.
- 43:28He's God who heals. Jehovah Nisi.
- 43:30Is it Jehovah Kia or Toyota? Jehovah Nissan?
- 43:34No. Jehovah Nisi.
- 43:35He's the Lord our banner. He's our peace, Raha.
- 43:40He's the Lord our shepherd. I love this one Tiskindu.
- 43:43He is the Lord our righteousness.
- 43:45I love this Shema. The Lord is present.
- 43:48He is here, but as well as long as there's oil in the house,
- 43:51nothing is impossible with God. So knowing the name of God, I
- 43:56got story. I was supposed to tell you 10
- 43:58stories about how this has worked in my life.
- 44:00Anyway, you got the idea. Let me just close with a couple
- 44:03of faith defaults. All right, like I, I.
- 44:07See, next week, some of you, you're going to be in groups of
- 44:10four bringing needy people. You don't have to RIP a hole in
- 44:14the roof next week, all right, Just bring them through the barn
- 44:17door. But, but this week God's going
- 44:19to get your people to bring along and, and, and, and other
- 44:22people are going to lean on your faith.
- 44:24And hopefully today some of you think, you know, I need to go to
- 44:26Level 3, the, the Level 3 refraction of the prism.
- 44:30I need to move to the, you know, the gift, the gift of faith.
- 44:33I want to have the faith of God to see what's going to God wants
- 44:37to do and break chains in people's lives.
- 44:40For some of you, you've just decided I just need to move from
- 44:43head faith. I've got good doctrine faith,
- 44:47but I need to move to an active faith today.
- 44:49You know, I got to give myself a giddy up.
- 44:51I've got to, I've got to believe.
- 44:53For some of you, you just might want to add to your prayer list.
- 44:56God, give me interventional faith, the faith of God.
- 45:00And that's going to be your focus in this next season as you
- 45:03walk the walk of faith. Some of you just think, I just
- 45:07need prayer at the end because I just, I'm, I'm, I'm in the gap
- 45:10between where I was and, and where God wants me to be.
- 45:15So I've got a series of faith defaults.
- 45:18And this is just five of them, but I want to give them to you.
- 45:20And this is really going to help some people to just land this,
- 45:24this teaching today. Here's my faith defaults or my
- 45:28reflex actions. The number one, God is good and
- 45:32only ever does good, and he always does good.
- 45:35All right, you look back things that you thought were going to
- 45:40crush you, you realise God was good.
- 45:43He's, he's the trapeze net, He's the hope on a rope.
- 45:47He's holding, he's holding you there all right.
- 45:50He's the rock underneath the cloud you're standing on #2 The
- 45:54Word of God is true, is the only foundation of our faith.
- 45:59As you read the Word, you say God.
- 46:01Here I am. As a prospect.
- 46:02They're looking for another nugget of wisdom and hope today
- 46:05and gold to some of you. We'll need to ramp up your
- 46:08reading of the Word. You worry about your faith.
- 46:12Your faith will be strong as you read more of the Word and
- 46:15meditate on more of the Word. And I won't even sell you a
- 46:19Bible college course that will teach you how to read the Word
- 46:22of God. You got good discipleship here
- 46:23locally #3 I love this one. The steps of a good man are
- 46:26ordered by the Lord. Even if you or I trip up stuff
- 46:30up, inflict trouble on ourselves, we will not be
- 46:34utterly cast down. I'll be restored to a place of
- 46:37blessing and favour. God looks after US #4 God will
- 46:42make all things work together for my good and make me more
- 46:45Christ life. I love this.
- 46:48God always restores the righteous with double for your
- 46:51trouble. There are two things that God
- 46:54hates, shame and pain deals with these and promises us a double
- 46:58bonus. Except for some of your paydays
- 47:01coming, you're going to get reward for your grief wage as it
- 47:05says in the message in Jeremiah. I've just chronicled my life the
- 47:09last 40 years, my relationship with Jesus and I've proven this
- 47:14time and time again. God shows me something in a
- 47:18challenge and he creates something new in me and He's
- 47:22just strengthens my faith. I have loss, I have pain, and
- 47:27I'm restored to a stronger position than I ever have been
- 47:30before. I bet you that's your story too.
