- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan,
- 0:14Speaker 1: and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a
- 0:16Speaker 1: former Hallmark hater. We're back with this round of the
- 0:20Speaker 1: Way Home Listener Mailbag episodes for season four, and that
- 0:24Speaker 1: is all thanks to you. Are wonderful listeners, because you
- 0:28Speaker 1: delivered in a big way. We received voicemails and emails
- 0:32Speaker 1: and messages all over the place about this first episode
- 0:37Speaker 1: of The Way Home. So here we are discussing your thoughts,
- 0:40Speaker 1: your theories, your questions ahead of episode two dropping this
- 0:44Speaker 1: weekend on Sunday. I gotta tell you, I read. I
- 0:49Speaker 1: read most of these emails, but I read one and
- 0:52Speaker 1: I was like, yep, yep, I believe all of that. Yeah.
- 0:57Speaker 1: So here we are again. Here we are. We're so
- 1:00Speaker 1: easily influenced by other people's ideas. Oh, me too, so
- 1:07Speaker 1: and they make sense to me me some of them,
- 1:10Speaker 1: some of them. Yes. Our first email is from listener Aaron,
- 1:13Speaker 1: who says, hello, I've watched The Way Home since the
- 1:16Speaker 1: first episode aired on Hallmark and have theorized the whole series.
- 1:20Speaker 1: It's fun seeing what plays out and what doesn't in
- 1:22Speaker 1: season one I had figured out the Finn twist pretty
- 1:25Speaker 1: early on last year. I sent you several emails on theories.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Some played out and some didn't. I rewatched the series
- 1:32Speaker 1: Holy twice this last year. I am impressed me Karen,
- 1:36Speaker 1: me too. So here are my theories after watching this
- 1:38Speaker 1: first episode. Number one, The landry that left baby Elliott
- 1:44Speaker 1: is Alice. It is always looked like Alice that jumped,
- 1:47Speaker 1: but that's not the reason why I believe it necessarily.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I believe it will happen on another one of her
- 1:52Speaker 1: quick and unexpected time travel stops, like mailing the letter,
- 1:55Speaker 1: seeing Colton that last time, and when she pushed herself
- 1:58Speaker 1: in the water. I think this will be another one
- 2:00Speaker 1: of those quick stopover trips where she'll quickly realize what
- 2:03Speaker 1: she's there to do, leave Elliott safely on the side
- 2:06Speaker 1: of the pond, knowing that an earlier version of herself
- 2:09Speaker 1: will be there shortly to take care of him and
- 2:11Speaker 1: put him at Colton's door. She will be the only
- 2:14Speaker 1: one that can say confidently that Elliott was safe on
- 2:17Speaker 1: both ends of that drop. The one who jumped into
- 2:19Speaker 1: the pond is built like Alice, wears jeans like her,
- 2:22Speaker 1: and she also has long hair ruling out Cat. I
- 2:25Speaker 1: think they want us to think it was Tessa to
- 2:26Speaker 1: feel justified in being angry with her for Elliott's sake.
- 2:29Speaker 1: But I think as the series progresses, we'll see that
- 2:31Speaker 1: it wasn't a callous move but one to save herself
- 2:34Speaker 1: from danger and maybe Elliott two. Elliot said he didn't
- 2:38Speaker 1: want to know, didn't care about which Landry helped, but
- 2:41Speaker 1: I think knowing it was Alice will soften his heart.
- 2:44Speaker 1: This is the email I read. I was like, oh, yeah, yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 1: that's what's going to happen. It's going to be easily explained. Yes,
- 2:50Speaker 1: there's nothing about that that I'm pushing back again, not
- 2:54Speaker 1: at all, And in fact, in episode one we were like, okay,
- 2:56Speaker 1: but they're just hoping someone comes along. And this does
- 3:00Speaker 1: explain that Alice knows because she already did it. Exactly
- 3:03Speaker 1: as to why Alice was responsible for leaving baby Elliot
- 3:07Speaker 1: there remains to be seen, but I think it's tied
- 3:09Speaker 1: to a hasty departure by Tessa, with Alice baring the
- 3:13Speaker 1: suitcase when Tessa has to leave to escape whatever. Obviously,
- 3:18Speaker 1: Alice knew of the perfect spot of what she'll remember
- 3:20Speaker 1: in a trip back to help Tessa. I read that,
- 3:23Speaker 1: I was like, oh yeah, yeah, right, because why would Alice?
- 3:29Speaker 1: In that episode she was like I know the perfect spot,
- 3:32Speaker 1: and I just thought they were like she was like
- 3:34Speaker 1: down by the pond, and the pond was a perfect spot.
- 3:38Speaker 1: She is by the pond, right, like a rock by
- 3:41Speaker 1: the pond.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:42Speaker 1: But in that episode, she hasn't buried it yet, right, No,
- 3:47Speaker 1: in the first hout she's getting ready to bury this.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I know she hasn't buried Tessa's suitcase yet. Oh, she
- 3:52Speaker 1: hasn't buried She hasn't had the experience of doing that yet.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 1: But so is it just something in her subconscious that
- 4:00Speaker 1: she's like, I know of a perfect spot? Maybe maybe?
- 4:04Speaker 1: Or is it that the pond just has significance for
- 4:06Speaker 1: her and she exact wants to bury it near the
- 4:09Speaker 1: pond exactly the Alice books. I think the Alice books
- 4:13Speaker 1: that Jacob sent her are her books, just newer versions
- 4:17Speaker 1: somehow brought through the pond. Notice the page that had
- 4:20Speaker 1: the inscription in the new book was gone in their
- 4:23Speaker 1: current one. Alice ran her hands over the page to
- 4:26Speaker 1: see if there was an indentation of the written words
- 4:29Speaker 1: in her copy. Plus she discovered there was an actual
- 4:32Speaker 1: page missing. No explanation as to how the books could
- 4:35Speaker 1: have wound up in Cole's possession in seventy four. But
- 4:38Speaker 1: maybe we'll find out. Maybe another totally random time capsule
- 4:42Speaker 1: is in the works, but somehow in reverse. We already
- 4:45Speaker 1: know objects can go through the pond, clothing, business card, clock,
- 4:49Speaker 1: maybe not the clock, We're not sure about that yet.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I feel kind of like I'm pattying myself on the
- 4:55Speaker 1: shoulder because I was like, yes, I totally picked up
- 4:57Speaker 1: on it, like looking at like the missing page, rubbing
- 5:00Speaker 1: her hand over like the intention of the of the
- 5:03Speaker 1: printing or whatever. Now how those got there and why that?
- 5:09Speaker 1: I don't know that That makes my brain hurt exactly.
- 5:12Speaker 1: This is the point where my brain starts to go on,
- 5:15Speaker 1: I need a timeline to understand when all of these
- 5:17Speaker 1: things are happening. In spite of having seen it, it
- 5:20Speaker 1: does get jumbled, yes, yes, And you know what I
- 5:24Speaker 1: also really like is all these things Alice is experiencing
- 5:29Speaker 1: but she doesn't tell anybody, Like Alice is in deep right,
- 5:35Speaker 1: but she doesn't go to her mom and say, like, oh,
- 5:37Speaker 1: I noticed in these books, like a page is missing,
- 5:40Speaker 1: Like she's gonna wait till she has something more concrete
- 5:43Speaker 1: that or she's the big piece of the puzzle, but
- 5:46Speaker 1: she's not like revealing everything. I wish like we had
- 5:49Speaker 1: like an internal dialogue of like Alice a little bit,
- 5:52Speaker 1: just so we could know what she was thinking, instead
- 5:56Speaker 1: of just we're a scene. Yeah, anyway, Aaron finally says,
- 6:00Speaker 1: I don't think we should discount the meaning of the
- 6:01Speaker 1: clock just yet. Season one also references clock tinkering between
- 6:05Speaker 1: young Jacob and Colton. I do remember that. I think
- 6:08Speaker 1: I remember that. Aaron ends with a question who is
- 6:12Speaker 1: the one that Grandma Fern referred to. She said that
- 6:15Speaker 1: she thought Colton's brother was the one, and maybe Colton was,
- 6:18Speaker 1: but he broke the rules. I think the one is
- 6:21Speaker 1: either Kat or Alice. But what is the point of
- 6:24Speaker 1: the one? Are they to fix something, write some landry
- 6:27Speaker 1: wrong from the past slash time traveling? If you had
- 6:30Speaker 1: to guess right now, Wendy, who do you think is
- 6:33Speaker 1: the one? I think Alice is the one. I think
- 6:35Speaker 1: so too, Not because I know anything, Yeah, me too.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I don't know anything or nor can I explain it,
- 6:41Speaker 1: but I think she is a central character in this
- 6:43Speaker 1: entire show. I agree, and I don't think it's a
- 6:46Speaker 1: coincidence that we're using Alice in Wonderland as these books, right.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I gotta just tell you, it does make me sad
- 6:53Speaker 1: that the show is going to end the season because
- 6:56Speaker 1: I don't want it to. I think we could have
- 6:59Speaker 1: Alice just move away from the pond and still have
- 7:02Speaker 1: some sort of story to unfold. You know, this was
- 7:07Speaker 1: a discussion in our Facebook group. Would you want this
- 7:10Speaker 1: series we picked up by another streamer? That's a good question,
- 7:14Speaker 1: I will tell you. When I sat down to watch
- 7:16Speaker 1: episode one last weekend, part of me was like, Okay,
- 7:20Speaker 1: maybe this has gone too far. Maybe this is too convoluted.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Maybe the initial story of just Jacob's missing and his
- 7:28Speaker 1: discovery should have just been it. I thought about that,
- 7:32Speaker 1: But when we get into it, I'm like, I feel
- 7:36Speaker 1: like there's more here, and yes, I would love another
- 7:39Speaker 1: streamer to pick it up. That's how I feel too.
- 7:41Speaker 1: In the Facebook group, I said, it's really going to
- 7:43Speaker 1: depend on how this season plays out. Do I feel
- 7:46Speaker 1: like there's more stories to tell? And I feel like
- 7:48Speaker 1: going into this season there are many more stories to
- 7:51Speaker 1: tell than we could possibly wrap up in a single season.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I know I think we could continue telling these stories
- 7:58Speaker 1: I would like to share. Back when The Way Home
- 8:02Speaker 1: was canceled, I messaged Alexandra Clark on Instagram, the writer creator, yes,
- 8:10Speaker 1: and I basically said not. Basically my exact response was,
- 8:14Speaker 1: this might be a stupid question, but is it your
- 8:15Speaker 1: hope that the show will get picked up by another network?
- 8:17Speaker 1: And if so, how can we support that? And at
- 8:19Speaker 1: the time, she did not respond. This past weekend, she responded,
- 8:23Speaker 1: I really saying, I'm so sorry for not being able
- 8:26Speaker 1: to answer this incredibly kind question. She goes on to say,
- 8:30Speaker 1: we've been so incredibly grateful to Hallmark for the four
- 8:32Speaker 1: seasons they had given us to explore our story and
- 8:34Speaker 1: our beloved characters. But when it comes to saying goodbye
- 8:38Speaker 1: to family, you're always going to wish for those five
- 8:40Speaker 1: more minutes. I don't think any of us will ever
- 8:43Speaker 1: give up hope of finding a way forward together. What
- 8:48Speaker 1: does that lead you to believe, Well, I don't believe
- 8:51Speaker 1: that there is anything that we don't know yet. I
- 8:54Speaker 1: don't believe that they're already in talks. That's not what
- 8:58Speaker 1: I think she's saying, you know, I think so. No,
- 9:00Speaker 1: I think she's saying you know, Hallmark has done a
- 9:02Speaker 1: lot for the show, and they have they gave them
- 9:04Speaker 1: four seasons. I think she's not biting the hand that
- 9:06Speaker 1: feeds her, But I also think she's saying if Netflix
- 9:10Speaker 1: made us an offer, that door is not closed. And
- 9:14Speaker 1: this show has built an audience on Netflix, and I'm
- 9:18Speaker 1: starting to see what I love is when I see
- 9:20Speaker 1: people outside of the Hallmark community recommending this show, it
- 9:23Speaker 1: makes me so happy. Yeah. I have a friend who
- 9:26Speaker 1: does not watch Hallmark. And then she came to me,
- 9:28Speaker 1: she goes, oh my god, I started watching this incredible
- 9:31Speaker 1: show on Netflix. It's called The Way Home blah blah
- 9:33Speaker 1: blah blah blah. And then I realized it's set on
- 9:35Speaker 1: the screen Hallmark. And I was like, yeah, thanks for
- 9:39Speaker 1: listening to the podcast. But I was like, yes, it's incredible,
- 9:45Speaker 1: you should watch it. And I was like, in season
- 9:46Speaker 1: four starts. You know, this was a couple of weeks ago.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I'm like, in season start four starting season So, yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 1: she doesn't have Hallmark or Hallmark Plus or anything like that.
- 9:55Speaker 1: So it'll be out on Netflix later this year. Yeah.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Our next emails from Francisco. Francisco is a regular listener.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Buty like he came in real hard last year with
- 10:06Speaker 1: he was kind of the person responsible for mail Bag.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I feel I agree with you. What I love about
- 10:12Speaker 1: Francisco is he doesn't hold back his annoyance with Cat,
- 10:17Speaker 1: so I'm excited to see what he has to say here.
- 10:19Speaker 1: He starts off, keeping with my usual I'll hit on
- 10:23Speaker 1: what Cat's doing. She, by and large seems normal so far.
- 10:27Speaker 1: There was a moment when Alice finds she's trying to
- 10:30Speaker 1: time travel after Elliott says he's not interested, and I thought,
- 10:33Speaker 1: not already? Is she going to fix things on her own?
- 10:37Speaker 1: Luckily it wasn't her time to go, so nothing happened.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I do want to know more about that creepy photo
- 10:45Speaker 1: bomb though? What photo bomb? Ib he's talking about the
- 10:48Speaker 1: film Real Bomb? Or she pops in? Oh when young
- 10:53Speaker 1: Fern is doing her audition and Cat comes in? Yeah,
- 10:57Speaker 1: didn't I do that? I just know who do you
- 11:01Speaker 1: think they see? Have we talked about this? We think
- 11:03Speaker 1: it's Sam right, maybe Kat's reaction. They're afraid of this person? Yeah,
- 11:08Speaker 1: you think it's afraid or shock? I can't remember exactly. Oh,
- 11:13Speaker 1: in my memory it's fear, but I don't remember exactly.
- 11:16Speaker 1: That's how I feel too, like it was fear, But
- 11:17Speaker 1: what if it's shock, Like she's like, Sam, what are
- 11:20Speaker 1: you doing here? You know? But Fern looks shocked too. Yeah,
- 11:23Speaker 1: but maybe Sam is a threat to Fern because Kat
- 11:27Speaker 1: like runs in like she's got to save her. Yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I don't know. And it's all silent too. You're just crazy, Okay.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Francisco goes on. When I heard Brady was back in town,
- 11:35Speaker 1: I automatically cringed. Turns out I was proven right. He's
- 11:39Speaker 1: back to being a bigger tool than he was in
- 11:42Speaker 1: season one. And go back to Minnesota and don't let
- 11:44Speaker 1: the door hit you on the way out. I agree,
- 11:48Speaker 1: you don't like Brady. He's such a blowhard kind of
- 11:52Speaker 1: I appreciate that he's cool parenting. I appreciate that too.
- 11:56Speaker 1: He's a perfectly fine dad. I just don't think he's
- 11:59Speaker 1: a cool person to be around. He's just he and
- 12:02Speaker 1: Elliott get in these d swinging contests. Totally. I'm just
- 12:05Speaker 1: I'm tired of it, and isn't so funny to be like, what, cat,
- 12:09Speaker 1: what did you? What were you drawn to him for?
- 12:12Speaker 1: Other than maybe even young Brady? I didn't find particularly
- 12:17Speaker 1: he came off as smart made to me. Yeah. Uh oh,
- 12:19Speaker 1: I see my name in the next paragraph. Okay, Francisca writes,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I have to take some real issue with Wendy regarding Elliott.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I'd be upset too if my mom just abandoned me.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I mean, sure he was found and had a good life,
- 12:35Speaker 1: but emotionally, the initial thought was to hurt. Okay, this
- 12:41Speaker 1: is all fair, but I can't help but like claan
- 12:45Speaker 1: on him a little bit when he's like the blond
- 12:48Speaker 1: didn't take me, this is funny. I'm sorry. Okay, I
- 12:55Speaker 1: know I'm gonna get really mean emails from people. Well,
- 13:01Speaker 1: I'm rooting for them. I'm rooting for Elliott. We all
- 13:03Speaker 1: know what's going to work out, guys. Yeah, I mean
- 13:08Speaker 1: I think we probably weren't giving his trauma it's due. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 1: but I think it's I think it's all going to
- 13:15Speaker 1: work out in terms if we think about Aaron's email, like,
- 13:20Speaker 1: I think it's going to work out too, I think.
- 13:22Speaker 1: But I think the fact that he has the woman
- 13:24Speaker 1: of his dreams and he lives this beautiful life doesn't
- 13:27Speaker 1: negate the trauma of your mom being like, I'm going
- 13:31Speaker 1: to piece out on my baby boy right now. But
- 13:33Speaker 1: what's going to happen is Elliott is going to come
- 13:35Speaker 1: to the realization that his mom was in danger. She
- 13:39Speaker 1: did not abandon hands. I agree with all of that,
- 13:41Speaker 1: that we're going to get a good reason, But right
- 13:43Speaker 1: now Elliott doesn't have any knowledge of what that reason
- 13:47Speaker 1: could possibly be. Yeah. All he knows is he had
- 13:51Speaker 1: to grow up with his pos father and his mom
- 13:54Speaker 1: left him behind. Yes, also that Dreamy had with the acts,
- 13:57Speaker 1: which you didn't mention. Yes, we did mention. We talked
- 14:00Speaker 1: about it because I talked about how Elliot looked good
- 14:03Speaker 1: when he woke up with a mallet. I thought it
- 14:05Speaker 1: was a mallet too. I thought it was a throwback
- 14:08Speaker 1: a sledgehammer. Yeah, when he was doing the renovations. Yes, yes, yes,
- 14:15Speaker 1: Francisco writes, it seemed really creepy. Turns out the way home,
- 14:17Speaker 1: we'll start like a Hallmark show and in like a
- 14:19Speaker 1: Lifetime movie. I don't think so. I disagree. I did
- 14:23Speaker 1: feel bad for Elliott at the end, though, after finally
- 14:25Speaker 1: coming to the conclusion he wanted to go back and
- 14:27Speaker 1: not being able to. I didn't feel bad.
- 14:31Speaker 2: We know.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Sorry, I had no real dog in the hunt. Between
- 14:37Speaker 1: Max and Noah. They both seemed decent. I'm just glad
- 14:40Speaker 1: it wasn't. Nick. I think the being unsure of the
- 14:44Speaker 1: song choice was simply showing Alice was still trying to
- 14:47Speaker 1: find her voice or what Max said about believing in herself.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I also think Noah wasn't at dinner for any number
- 14:55Speaker 1: of reasons, like Brady. Maybe also, it's maybe too expensive
- 14:59Speaker 1: to pay him to be there. That's entirely possible. Yeah
- 15:02Speaker 1: you really, you really think like he was it was
- 15:05Speaker 1: a budget issue. Well, I don't know. I think it's
- 15:07Speaker 1: weird that her boyfriend wouldn't be there, So that's the
- 15:10Speaker 1: only thing that makes sense. Maybe marks like someone's got
- 15:12Speaker 1: to go and we need Max here to build this
- 15:13Speaker 1: love triangle. Perhaps, or maybe Noah's time traveling. He's not
- 15:18Speaker 1: a landry. He's not related to Alice with Tessa somewhere
- 15:21Speaker 1: out there. No, Tessa's not a landry either. See this
- 15:24Speaker 1: is where one to be real careful about getting too
- 15:26Speaker 1: outlandish with our theory. I know, I know, Baby Jane
- 15:29Speaker 1: Doe is a time traveler. It's episode one. Sam is
- 15:34Speaker 1: definitely suspicious and I really want to know his deal.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I also want to know more about Griffin, if, for instance,
- 15:42Speaker 1: he was the Landry who jumped in upond with Tessa.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I don't think they're the same person though, Oh Francisco
- 15:48Speaker 1: doesn't think Griffin and Sam are the same person. No,
- 15:51Speaker 1: he does not. I think they are. I don't. I
- 15:54Speaker 1: think they are because I can't figure out who else
- 15:57Speaker 1: Sam could be. But uh, the final paragraph says, okay,
- 16:02Speaker 1: with Dell, there was one thing that I want to
- 16:05Speaker 1: know about that you didn't discuss. Oh. Yes, When she's
- 16:09Speaker 1: in the kitchen with Rita and Sam and Rita turns
- 16:11Speaker 1: on the music, Delle remembers something that sounds like a
- 16:14Speaker 1: pretty violent argument where she's being told to leave. Do
- 16:18Speaker 1: you recall do you recall that from that episode? I do,
- 16:20Speaker 1: and we didn't see it. It was just an auditory memory, right. Also,
- 16:24Speaker 1: I do think we'll see Jefferson Brown in memory is
- 16:27Speaker 1: of hers, though I think they showed something into previews
- 16:30Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken. Back to that, she hears that
- 16:34Speaker 1: song and has the memory an auditory memory. Who do
- 16:39Speaker 1: you think's yelling in that? Is it she and Colton fighting?
- 16:44Speaker 1: I don't know. My notes just say Dell is taken
- 16:46Speaker 1: back to a memory and she hears yelling. But we
- 16:48Speaker 1: don't see anything. So I don't know her parents. Maybe
- 16:52Speaker 1: you know her parents, Oh yeah, and they were having
- 16:56Speaker 1: trouble and sent her away. I don't know. Yeah, all right,
- 17:00Speaker 1: do you have any thoughts additional thoughts. We also heard
- 17:02Speaker 1: from someone else saying that Jefferson Brown is in the
- 17:04Speaker 1: previews for this season, so he will he will appear.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Fan freakantastic. Marlene writes, I haven't written before, but I
- 17:19Speaker 1: enjoy your podcast. Just listen to your The Way Home
- 17:23Speaker 1: episode one recap. Just letting you know that the music
- 17:26Speaker 1: the clock played after Elliott put it in motion is
- 17:29Speaker 1: Beautiful Dreamer. That's the same song Fern sang when Kat
- 17:33Speaker 1: met her for the first time. Kat said she didn't
- 17:36Speaker 1: know the tune. It was before her time. It's when
- 17:38Speaker 1: Fern told her she has to ask the right questions,
- 17:41Speaker 1: and Fern left her in the kitchen with the Madelines
- 17:43Speaker 1: to take a nap. It's also funny how Kat calls
- 17:46Speaker 1: Elliott her best friend when she was the same age
- 17:48Speaker 1: that Alice is now. Now, Alice calls Max her best friend,
- 17:52Speaker 1: but she's with Noah as Kat was with Brady. Could
- 17:55Speaker 1: Alice's future involve both of them in different years? Slash decades.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I don't know, just trying to second guess the show
- 18:02Speaker 1: and writers. She says, thanks to the fun podcast. But
- 18:05Speaker 1: I do recommend rewatching the series. I think the next
- 18:07Speaker 1: nine episodes are going to be a roller coaster ride
- 18:09Speaker 1: with lots of tie backs to previous seasons. You know,
- 18:12Speaker 1: if I had the time, I would, and I want to,
- 18:15Speaker 1: and maybe after this season we'll go back and watch
- 18:20Speaker 1: it again. Yeah. I want to say, I am impressed
- 18:23Speaker 1: with those who really know the series. Why are you
- 18:26Speaker 1: looking at me like that? I because I hate it
- 18:29Speaker 1: when we say we're dummies and we don't know what
- 18:31Speaker 1: we're talking about. We're supposed to be the insightful The
- 18:34Speaker 1: Way Home podcast. I would like to know if those
- 18:37Speaker 1: who are watching The Way Home so closely also watch
- 18:41Speaker 1: as many Hollwark movies as we do. Sure, you're right,
- 18:43Speaker 1: it's not a competition. Some people are very good at
- 18:47Speaker 1: recalling those details and making those connections. What I would
- 18:51Speaker 1: think would be interesting. There were a lot of parallels
- 18:53Speaker 1: between season one, episode one and season four episode one,
- 18:57Speaker 1: and I think Marlene is right that we're going to
- 18:59Speaker 1: see a lot of callbacks and references to earlier seasons.
- 19:02Speaker 1: And I wonder if they're going to be specifically tied
- 19:05Speaker 1: to specific episodes, because it would be fun to have
- 19:08Speaker 1: like a rewatch guide, like before you watch, he's in
- 19:10Speaker 1: four episode two, watch season two episode two, right, I
- 19:15Speaker 1: would or just watch all watch all three thirty hours
- 19:20Speaker 1: of TV. Ready break. I have a voicemail. You want
- 19:24Speaker 1: to hear it? Sure, unless it's mean. I don't want
- 19:27Speaker 1: to hear it. It's it's kind of mean. Oh, great, fantastic,
- 19:31Speaker 1: you've already heard it. I have Okay, let's hear it. Hi, ladies.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I love girlfriend of Hallmark. I just listened to her
- 19:40Speaker 1: the Way Home.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Recap and one if you kept saying at the end
- 19:46Speaker 2: of the show that things had to be a coincidence
- 19:48Speaker 2: that the writers couldn't have known it, Like showed me
- 19:52Speaker 2: the Way to Go Home, which, by the way, my
- 19:54Speaker 2: grandfather used to sing was written in nineteen twenty five
- 19:57Speaker 2: and then Draws in nineteen seventy five had connections throughout
- 20:01Speaker 2: the show. Why would you think that you could learn
- 20:05Speaker 2: that and the writers couldn't writers, it's kinds of research
- 20:10Speaker 2: the connections.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Especially with The Way Home. They do connect on the
- 20:14Speaker 1: Doctor in the end. Anyway, I love the.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Recap and I love the way home, and I look
- 20:22Speaker 2: forward to many more discussions.
- 20:24Speaker 1: The tone was kind of me, I think is what
- 20:27Speaker 1: I think.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I think.
- 20:29Speaker 1: If you recall that discussion, you said, I don't want
- 20:33Speaker 1: to assume this connection because we're not in the writer's head. Yeah,
- 20:39Speaker 1: you said, could that possibly be a coincidence, And my
- 20:41Speaker 1: exact line was, it's pretty coincidences. Sure, it seems entirely
- 20:47Speaker 1: possible that the writers could have had that information. I'm
- 20:50Speaker 1: not discounting it. We just we just don't know. We
- 20:52Speaker 1: don't have a direct line to them. My whole investigation
- 20:57Speaker 1: started at the title of the song was used, and
- 21:01Speaker 1: then the Internet told me that it had appeared in
- 21:03Speaker 1: the nineteen seventy five movie Jaws. Like, I mean, yes,
- 21:07Speaker 1: I don't know. It feels a little bit of a like,
- 21:10Speaker 1: I don't think people regular people watching this show are
- 21:13Speaker 1: googling the title of the episode to either to find
- 21:17Speaker 1: these like hidden Easter eggs. I really don't think they are.
- 21:20Speaker 1: That's why I was like, maybe there's a connection there,
- 21:24Speaker 1: and maybe it's coincidence, is what I'm I'm saying. Do
- 21:28Speaker 1: I think the writers might be purposely doing that? Sure?
- 21:33Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 21:33Speaker 1: And I also think, like you, the title of this
- 21:35Speaker 1: episode episode Episode one, show me the Way to Go Home.
- 21:38Speaker 1: This is a show called The Way Home. I'm envisioning
- 21:41Speaker 1: them being like, let's find a song that's about like
- 21:44Speaker 1: going home, the Way Home. They come up with this
- 21:46Speaker 1: song title and then like, what's that about? And then
- 21:49Speaker 1: they realize, oh, it has a nineteen seventy five connection.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Perfect about it being Bata Boom. Yeah. You know, sometimes
- 21:55Speaker 1: these things are backward engineered that way. They're not like
- 21:58Speaker 1: I need a song from nineteen twenty five that became popular.
- 22:01Speaker 1: You know. Sometimes it's a coincidence on their end too,
- 22:04Speaker 1: They're like this is perfect. Yeah, and by the way,
- 22:07Speaker 1: it was me, Wendy, who who have that? Give a
- 22:10Speaker 1: It's it's interesting to note those things, because you're right,
- 22:15Speaker 1: most people aren't like, oh, let me pull up all
- 22:18Speaker 1: the details. Tell you I can't win. Either I'm not
- 22:21Speaker 1: doing it enough or I'm doing too much. This is
- 22:23Speaker 1: the problem when people start listening to your podcast. Oh
- 22:27Speaker 1: btwh no SI no no listener survey. There was some
- 22:32Speaker 1: criticism about we got to be too nice after our
- 22:37Speaker 1: podcast got popular. I was like, whose podcast is popular?
- 22:41Speaker 1: But they surely are not talking about us, guys. Let
- 22:45Speaker 1: me share the download information with you. We are spectacularly
- 22:49Speaker 1: popular the number two Walmart podcast Claim to pay. Oh
- 22:57Speaker 1: my gosh, I really want to do a recap of
- 22:59Speaker 1: the listener serve. I know we are, we just haven't
- 23:01Speaker 1: had time. We haven't had time on the actual published schedule.
- 23:06Speaker 1: I know we're pushing pushing out six episodes this week,
- 23:09Speaker 1: five or six next week. It's going to come out
- 23:12Speaker 1: in a few weeks when there's an empty day in
- 23:14Speaker 1: the schedule. Yes, yes, yes, can we move on please?
- 23:19Speaker 1: I feel hurt right now. Well you shouldn't, because the
- 23:22Speaker 1: next two are such delight. They're all good, but the
- 23:25Speaker 1: next two are like our homies, so fantastic. This is
- 23:29Speaker 1: from a homie Number one Lance Happy the Way Home
- 23:32Speaker 1: returns week you recap of the Way Home episodes continue
- 23:36Speaker 1: to be highlight as much fun as the show itself.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Almost I'm just kidding, Lance, just kidding. I'm typically walking
- 23:44Speaker 1: the dogs when I listen, and I never remember to
- 23:46Speaker 1: send an email when I get back home. Just know
- 23:49Speaker 1: I write dozens in my head every year. This time
- 23:52Speaker 1: I had to call it. What Lance, We have a
- 23:55Speaker 1: voicemail just raining ding on your walk. Put our phone
- 24:00Speaker 1: number and your contacts. Just leave us a voicemail like
- 24:03Speaker 1: as you're walking, I don't care that air fought in
- 24:05Speaker 1: and chat away. We'll hear the wind, Yeah, burns in
- 24:08Speaker 1: the trees picking up a dog pood exactly, the rustle
- 24:12Speaker 1: of a dog bag. Can't wait, what's that phone number? Megan?
- 24:15Speaker 1: Nine four nine three two nine eight zero nine zero.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I'm hoping we get a voicemail from Lance next week.
- 24:21Speaker 1: He goes on to write, this time I had to
- 24:23Speaker 1: comment on the similarity between your Volkswagon brainstorm and a
- 24:27Speaker 1: similar thought. I had heard me the love Bug right
- 24:30Speaker 1: before you started talking about the flying love Bug. I
- 24:33Speaker 1: was thinking about them waterproofing the Volkswagen Bug and driving
- 24:37Speaker 1: it into the pond. Maybe visualize something more like Mary
- 24:42Speaker 1: Poppins than Harry Potter. Yes, I remember the love Bug.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Probably saw it at the drive in with my parents.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Thanks for keeping the recaps coming. I appreciate them. And
- 24:53Speaker 1: I always laugh out loud at least once for episode
- 24:58Speaker 1: once at least once, almost at least once. Okay, And
- 25:09Speaker 1: like I said, sometimes we're in the mood to take
- 25:10Speaker 1: things personally. I'm just gonna walk out of us life
- 25:13Speaker 1: never come back. Our next email is from Eric, who says, Hi, ladies,
- 25:19Speaker 1: I love your recaps of the way home. Is this
- 25:21Speaker 1: Eric from Iowa? Indeed it is fine, Eric, Lady has
- 25:26Speaker 1: bad news for you. Did you notice at the end
- 25:30Speaker 1: of the episode, when Alice is reading the letter to
- 25:32Speaker 1: her future child out loud and we see Jacob sitting
- 25:35Speaker 1: on the bench in Toronto? Right when Alice says family
- 25:39Speaker 1: is walking with you. Two people are walking past Jacob,
- 25:42Speaker 1: who looks suspiciously like teenage Colton and Dell, right down
- 25:47Speaker 1: to Colton's blue and black flannel. Maybe I'm imagining things
- 25:51Speaker 1: and it's nothing, but the visual with that specific line
- 25:53Speaker 1: seems too perfect to be a coincidence. Be careful with coincidence.
- 25:57Speaker 1: It's a real trigger for some people. I'm going to
- 26:01Speaker 1: pull up the episode right now, Okay, so I'm dying
- 26:03Speaker 1: to see where can I watch it? At screeners? When
- 26:07Speaker 1: is a boomer You're trying to figure out how to
- 26:09Speaker 1: pull up the episode? I don't think so does that
- 26:13Speaker 1: go luckily as a ponytail? Also, how would teenage Colton
- 26:18Speaker 1: tell it's short hair? Oh? It is? How would teenage
- 26:20Speaker 1: Colton and Delby in the future or is Jacob in
- 26:23Speaker 1: the past? No, because he's reading a letter from Alice. Look,
- 26:27Speaker 1: I love the theory. Eric. He's not reading, he's looking
- 26:31Speaker 1: at his text messages from Kat about oh oh oh. Well,
- 26:35Speaker 1: then how would teenage Colton and Delby in the future.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 26:39Speaker 2: We know that.
- 26:42Speaker 1: At the beginning of the episode it says the future.
- 26:44Speaker 1: I understand that, but I don't think they time traveled.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I know they're coming out of the pond. I think
- 26:49Speaker 1: they're returning from somewhere. I think we're seeing a flash forward,
- 26:52Speaker 1: not future time travel. I think we're seeing Kat and
- 26:55Speaker 1: Elliott's wedding day and the three women have just returned
- 27:00Speaker 1: from somewhere through the pond. I had some thoughts about
- 27:03Speaker 1: that scene. If we can move on from Eric's email,
- 27:06Speaker 1: keep them coming, Eric. Yeah, I was thinking back. Remember
- 27:08Speaker 1: how we were going back and forth about like what
- 27:11Speaker 1: exactly was said? Was it he or she? Heherever? Could
- 27:15Speaker 1: it be they were talking about Coulton. I wish Colton
- 27:17Speaker 1: for this. Yeah, of course, because Kat's getting married to
- 27:20Speaker 1: Elliott and then you know, yeah, absolutely, anyway, that's awful. Yeah,
- 27:25Speaker 1: my thought is that they did not time travel in
- 27:27Speaker 1: that scene. Time travel to the future. I think it'd
- 27:30Speaker 1: be cool. I think so too. But I also don't
- 27:32Speaker 1: think we're going to change the rules of the pond
- 27:33Speaker 1: at this stage in the game just to suit the narrative.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Nate and Heather left a comment on YouTube. I think
- 27:39Speaker 1: Jacob is going to the city and he will run
- 27:41Speaker 1: into Sam. I still think that there might be something
- 27:43Speaker 1: up with the person that Sam put away in prison.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Could be a reach. Oh, I forgotten about that. What
- 27:49Speaker 1: do you think about Rita mentioning her port haveaven Ghost
- 27:52Speaker 1: Stories podcast and that she wants to do a podcast
- 27:55Speaker 1: in the Lingermore Tunnels. She mentioned the events that happened there.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Maybe Kat is going to be a part of it,
- 28:00Speaker 1: and the silent film clip is connected. So excited this
- 28:04Speaker 1: show is back. Hmmm. I was hoping like they find
- 28:09Speaker 1: you know, Thomas down there in the tunnels, lingering, Yeah,
- 28:15Speaker 1: just the ghost of No, he just I don't know,
- 28:19Speaker 1: I don't know. Please you just want Chris Holden read back.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I do.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Yeah. That wasn't accidental that discussion we get with Rita
- 28:27Speaker 1: and Lewis, No, it wasn't accidental. It was pretty funny.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I was like, she has got a podcast. Welcome. Our
- 28:35Speaker 1: final email is from Glenn and this was a message
- 28:38Speaker 1: left on YouTube. He writes, I figured Griffin did come
- 28:42Speaker 1: back just later, like early eighties. He was the person
- 28:46Speaker 1: that the older Colton. We do see Jefferson Brown this season.
- 28:51Speaker 1: He's in the preview ripped from the photo of Dell
- 28:55Speaker 1: Colton and Tessa, and Griffin's the one who takes Tessa
- 28:58Speaker 1: to the pond testa barry the suitcase to make it
- 29:01Speaker 1: appear she had left by normal means. To Vic Sam,
- 29:04Speaker 1: really is a mystery inside an enigma. Do I remember
- 29:10Speaker 1: it was either last season or this season before and
- 29:12Speaker 1: we were so heavily in on the news conference and
- 29:18Speaker 1: it looked like an eighties background like the TVs. Yes,
- 29:23Speaker 1: was in that eighties. We never really got any clarity
- 29:26Speaker 1: on that, right, No, you and I dug all in
- 29:29Speaker 1: on the book. Yes, what a bunch of dimmies. Anyway,
- 29:34Speaker 1: what if it is Griffin and it is in the
- 29:36Speaker 1: eighties and who I don't know, But it doesn't make
- 29:40Speaker 1: sense though. The conference wasn't happening in the eighties, because
- 29:42Speaker 1: that was a news conference from Jacob returning home. He
- 29:45Speaker 1: was just in a dated home watching it. Oh yeah.
- 29:49Speaker 1: A quick comment from Spotify from Hannah. She says, Ladies,
- 29:52Speaker 1: my wife just pointed out to me that Jacob is
- 29:55Speaker 1: in Toronto. Sam went to Toronto when quote visiting his grandkid.
- 30:00Speaker 1: It's last season. How far is Toronto from Port Haven
- 30:05Speaker 1: fictional Port Haven? Well, I don't know. We don't know
- 30:07Speaker 1: where port Haven is so it can't look up. There's water,
- 30:14Speaker 1: so they're on the east and Toronto's on the east. Okay, fantastic. Yes,
- 30:19Speaker 1: I do believe there's some connection between Jacob and Toronto
- 30:22Speaker 1: and Sam going to Toronto. It doesn't make any sense
- 30:26Speaker 1: for Jacob to not be in port Haven. Like, Hey,
- 30:31Speaker 1: thank you for listening to this episode of Girls Gone Hamewark.
- 30:33Speaker 1: If you want to participate in future listener mailbag episodes
- 30:36Speaker 1: after watching The Way Home this weekend, we'd love to
- 30:39Speaker 1: hear from you. You can email us hello at Girls
