- 1:27Speaker 3: Plus this really disturbing story about the incredible number of

- 1:47Speaker 3: text too. We always started off throwing Friday's been talking
- 1:49Speaker 3: high school football with Tom Bragg and Chris Lawrence. Chris
- 1:53Speaker 3: happy early birthday. Hey you thank you very much, And
- 1:56Speaker 3: I would be remiss if I also did not wish
- 1:58Speaker 3: my wife Ruthanne a happy anniversary thirty three years she's
- 2:02Speaker 3: had this. Yeah, my condolences. Then congratulations to you all right, Chris,
- 2:10Speaker 3: who you got tonight? We have the age old rivalry
- 2:13Speaker 3: of South Charleston on the Hill at GDB tonight. That
- 2:17Speaker 3: one has been a little one sided for several years now.
- 2:20Speaker 3: But Donny May is back at South Charleston and I
- 2:23Speaker 3: talked to him this week. Feels like he is beginning
- 2:25Speaker 3: a rebuilding job there. It's a work in progress.
- 2:28Speaker 5: And they got their you know, they got the monkey
- 2:30Speaker 5: off their back with by winning their opener against Ripley
- 2:33Speaker 5: and come from behind fashion run there at the end.
- 2:35Speaker 5: They stumbled last week and struggled a lot with Winfield,
- 2:39Speaker 5: but he feels like, you know, you play the games
- 2:42Speaker 5: and you improve every week. So meanwhile, Steve Edwards Junior's
- 2:45Speaker 5: got a team that he feels like is really really solid,
- 2:48Speaker 5: and they even though they are young, they've got some
- 2:51Speaker 5: guys that have some experience and some talent, and they
- 2:56Speaker 5: they really feel like that they've got an opportunity to
- 2:58Speaker 5: go pretty deep this year in the playoff. If everything
- 3:01Speaker 5: works out and everybody stays healthy, they've got a solid
- 3:04Speaker 5: team there at GW.
- 3:05Speaker 3: All right, so you guys will have the You and
- 3:06Speaker 3: Aaron Parker have the call to night. We will be
- 3:08Speaker 3: on here at seven o'clock. Kickoffs at seven point thirty
- 3:11Speaker 3: from Steve Edwards Senior Field upon the Hill. All right,
- 3:13Speaker 3: what you got on West Virginia Outdoors tomorrow? Well, I
- 3:15Speaker 3: know that this weekend is the West Virginia Trappers Association
- 3:19Speaker 3: State Convention at Glenville, so I will have somebody from
- 3:23Speaker 3: the Trappers convention on to talk a little bit about
- 3:25Speaker 3: what they're doing. All right, that's the plan, all right,
- 3:28Speaker 3: mister Lawrence. And what number of birthday is this for you?
- 3:31Speaker 1: On Sunday?
- 3:32Speaker 3: I will be fifty seven, fifty seven. Yes, you don't
- 3:36Speaker 3: look a day over fifty six. Yeah, I don't feel
- 3:38Speaker 3: a day over eighty. So happy birthday by Fred. All
- 3:42Speaker 3: right'll be listening to the game to night and listening
- 3:43Speaker 3: tomorrow morning. Tom Bragg is here, you got Hoover tonight
- 3:47Speaker 3: as you do over on KWS. And Matt Murphy not
- 3:49Speaker 3: here this week, so it'll be you and Daniel Woods.
- 3:52Speaker 3: You're doing play by play. Daniel will be doing color,
- 3:55Speaker 3: which is the opposite of what we do on State
- 3:57Speaker 3: on Saturday afternoons on a beat, right, yes, all right, So, oh,
- 4:00Speaker 3: what's the Husky's doing tonight.
- 4:02Speaker 6: Well, the Husky's got a road trip. They got to
- 4:04Speaker 6: go down to Hamlin take on Lincoln County. It's a
- 4:07Speaker 6: series that hasn't happened a whole lot in the past.
- 4:09Speaker 6: Team's only played two times ever. And I went and
- 4:12Speaker 6: dug into the historical results Dave and went to check.
- 4:16Speaker 6: I was like, well, this Hoover played the teams that
- 4:17Speaker 6: consolidated to be Lincoln zero games against Hamlin, Duval, Heart's
- 4:21Speaker 6: guy in Valley, so only the third meeting. I'm gonna
- 4:24Speaker 6: correct you. One thing, Hearts is not part of Lincoln County,
- 4:26Speaker 6: was it not you? No, Heart's Hearts was with Chapmanville Regional. Okay,
- 4:31Speaker 6: that's why they got the regional.
- 4:33Speaker 3: But I get the basic guy.
- 4:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 4:35Speaker 3: It's not very often that I know something that you don't.
- 4:37Speaker 3: That's why I had to throw it out. You got
- 4:38Speaker 3: me on that one.
- 4:40Speaker 6: But either way, you know, Hoover's coming off a dramatic
- 4:44Speaker 6: win last week against Nitro. The Husky's won fifteen to fourteen.
- 4:48Speaker 6: When we were here last week, we said, you know,
- 4:50Speaker 6: last year we got this great overtime game that really
- 4:53Speaker 6: came down to the wire. It was a defensive struggle
- 4:55Speaker 6: between two offensive teams. You hope you get a game
- 4:57Speaker 6: even kind of that good. I think it might have surpassed.
- 4:59Speaker 6: It was just great back and forth game and Hoover
- 5:03Speaker 6: took Nitro's best shot, and I thought they lived to
- 5:05Speaker 6: fight another day. They weren't perfect. There were some sloppy things.
- 5:09Speaker 6: There was some trouble on the extra points. They missed
- 5:12Speaker 6: an extra point because of a bad snap, and then
- 5:13Speaker 6: they had to go for two the next time they scored,
- 5:15Speaker 6: and there was a bad snap on that too, and
- 5:17Speaker 6: they ended up missing it and really had to drive late.
- 5:21Speaker 6: They needed an interception late in that game and then
- 5:24Speaker 6: drove and kicked field goal with in the last couple
- 5:26Speaker 6: of seconds. But it was a fantastic game between Hoover
- 5:28Speaker 6: and Nitro. I expect Hoover to probably be able to
- 5:32Speaker 6: stretch its stretch its legs out a little bit this week.
- 5:35Speaker 6: I think they would probably be considered pretty heavy favorites
- 5:37Speaker 6: going down to Lincoln County hasn't been probably the season
- 5:40Speaker 6: the Panthers fans have wanted down in Handles struggled there, Yeah,
- 5:43Speaker 6: they've struggled there historically. It seems like maybe things they
- 5:46Speaker 6: seem a little better than they have been in the past,
- 5:48Speaker 6: but still that schedule is tough. They've played some really
- 5:50Speaker 6: good teams so far, and they've got a really good
- 5:52Speaker 6: one coming into town tonight with the Huskies. Should be
- 5:55Speaker 6: an interesting game for the Huskies. We'll get to see,
- 5:57Speaker 6: you'd think if it goes the way that a lot
- 5:59Speaker 6: of people think it will, that you get to see
- 6:01Speaker 6: some of that depth. Maybe get some time out on
- 6:03Speaker 6: the field, some younger guys that having gotten to play
- 6:05Speaker 6: a whole lot so far, maybe get on the field,
- 6:07Speaker 6: make some play. See what what kind of backups and
- 6:09Speaker 6: third strings guys Joey Fields has out now field.
- 6:12Speaker 3: All right, and of course we'll have coverage on KWS
- 6:15Speaker 3: tonight ninety six point one Superstar Country with you and
- 6:17Speaker 3: Daniel Woods, then you and mister Woods tomorrow with State.
- 6:20Speaker 3: What State got this week?
- 6:21Speaker 6: State is also on the road, so we make the
- 6:22Speaker 6: long trip to Hamlin tonight, we come back tomorrow morning.
- 6:24Speaker 6: We're gonna get up and go to Bucanon. State's at
- 6:26Speaker 6: West Virginia Wesley and tomorrow you know the Bobcats.
- 6:29Speaker 3: It's been rough.
- 6:30Speaker 6: They one of the worst teams in the NEC the
- 6:32Speaker 6: last few years. Statistically you look at it, they're near
- 6:34Speaker 6: the bottom in Division two and in a lot of things.
- 6:37Speaker 6: State still kind of trying to figure itself out. Got
- 6:40Speaker 6: a big win two weeks ago against Barton College. I
- 6:42Speaker 6: think that was a good shot in the arm for
- 6:43Speaker 6: their confidence, and then they had an off week last
- 6:45Speaker 6: week to kind of figure things out going into the
- 6:47Speaker 6: NEC portion of their schedule this week, So should be
- 6:50Speaker 6: one to keep an eye on for the Yellowjackets, probably
- 6:52Speaker 6: going up there hoping to come back with a win.
- 6:54Speaker 6: They've won the last couple in this series. We'll see
- 6:56Speaker 6: how they do. All right, We'll be listening tonight and tomorrow.
- 6:59Speaker 6: Appreciate it man, thanks to and again our sister station,
- 7:01Speaker 6: the Beats, is the home for West Virginia State football.
- 7:04Speaker 6: And again they'll make that trip off to Winsley and tomorrow.
- 7:07Speaker 3: It is nine four Team Dave Island Show on five

- 7:26Speaker 3: Mormon coming up, as well as bringing Angie Gillden Water
- 7:28Speaker 3: now from the Connelae Charleston, New Maine Association with this
- 7:30Speaker 3: week's adopt Me Please Better the week. Angie, good morning,
- 7:32Speaker 3: Welcome to the show. Asked of the Book of Mormon
- 7:35Speaker 3: coming up, as well as bringing Angie Gilden Water Now
- 7:37Speaker 3: from the Conneale Charleston, New Maine Association with this week's
- 7:40Speaker 3: Adopt Me Please Better the Weeke Angie, good morning, Welcome
- 7:42Speaker 3: to the show.
- 7:43Speaker 8: Good morning, It's finally Friday.
- 7:46Speaker 3: It is indeed now we know what we do. Want
- 7:48Speaker 3: to remind you that as always, our picture of our
- 7:51Speaker 3: pet is posted at Dave Allen Radio and the WCHS
- 7:55Speaker 3: Network on Facebook and also over on x on aunt
- 7:59Speaker 3: Dave tell us about Ruby.
- 8:04Speaker 8: Ruby is a senior pet. She's about six ish five
- 8:08Speaker 8: to six this years old. She's a very sweet dream
- 8:12Speaker 8: on the leash. If you're looking for a dog to
- 8:14Speaker 8: just simply hang out with you and not pull you
- 8:17Speaker 8: everywhere on the leash, doesn't want to go on hikes
- 8:20Speaker 8: things like that. Ruby is the girl for you. She
- 8:23Speaker 8: got spayed yesterday, so she is ready to roll if
- 8:25Speaker 8: you do decide to adopt. She's fully vaccinated, great with
- 8:29Speaker 8: calm dogs, good with kids, and she's the perfect what
- 8:33Speaker 8: I would call medium sized dog. She kind of looks
- 8:36Speaker 8: like a beagle. She's about twenty seven.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Pounds, That's what I'm The first thing I noticed when
- 8:40Speaker 3: you sent me the picture last night, does that dog's
- 8:42Speaker 3: definitely got some beagle in it. There's no doubt about it.
- 8:45Speaker 3: And it sounds like if you want a dog that's
- 8:46Speaker 3: going to be, I mean, from what you're telling me,
- 8:48Speaker 3: low maintenance, this will be the dog for you. Because
- 8:51Speaker 3: a little bit, a little bit older, very very sweet
- 8:54Speaker 3: dog from what you said to around twenty seven pounds,
- 8:56Speaker 3: already spade, already vaxed, and great with kids and other dogs.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Just just an all around great dog.
- 9:02Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 9:03Speaker 8: Absolutely, I've been on a hound kick for the past
- 9:05Speaker 8: few weeks, it seems. But Ruby is a great, low
- 9:08Speaker 8: maintenance dog and I think would be perfect for any
- 9:11Speaker 8: time any first time dog owners out there.
- 9:13Speaker 3: All right, what else is going on to shelter?
- 9:16Speaker 9: Uh?
- 9:16Speaker 3: What? What's what's the needs? Let's start there. We always
- 9:19Speaker 3: ask you about the needs. What's the needs?
- 9:21Speaker 8: The needs are puppy chow, wet dog food, and bleach
- 9:26Speaker 8: and paper cowls as far as cleaning supplies go. So
- 9:29Speaker 8: those are the big ones right now. Of course, volunteers
- 9:32Speaker 8: are always needed, and newspaper and blankets as always, but
- 9:37Speaker 8: big ones are the puppy chow, the bleach, paper towls,
- 9:40Speaker 8: and wet dog food.
- 9:41Speaker 3: All right, we have a text here for you. You know,
- 9:43Speaker 3: you always you're popular. We always have questions for you. Okay.
- 9:46Speaker 3: One was how was the Saint Albans kitten doing.
- 9:50Speaker 8: Much better? I can't release too many details.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Again because it's our animal cruelty case.
- 9:56Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, active ongoing investigation wants the investigation is over
- 10:00Speaker 8: with us, I'll be happy to share all the details.
- 10:02Speaker 8: But the kitten is stable, doing much better, and you know,
- 10:07Speaker 8: is expected to live a long, happy life. The only
- 10:10Speaker 8: way you can tell something even happened is it does
- 10:13Speaker 8: have kind of a little head tilt, but the kitten
- 10:16Speaker 8: is expected to make a full recovery and live a
- 10:19Speaker 8: normal life besides that headkilt.
- 10:21Speaker 3: All right, that's good. And the other question was any
- 10:23Speaker 3: updates on how the kitten that was thrown off the
- 10:24Speaker 3: Patrick's treet bridge several weeks ago, has been doing.
- 10:27Speaker 8: You know, we never got that kitten in the shelter.
- 10:30Speaker 8: We were fully prepared to receive it and treat it.
- 10:33Speaker 8: So I'm just going to assume that's the finders, you know,
- 10:37Speaker 8: found a new home for that kitten. Nothing was wrong
- 10:39Speaker 8: with it, best case scenario, But we never got that kitten.
- 10:43Speaker 8: So I can't I can't speak on any updates on that,
- 10:46Speaker 8: but I can be hopeful.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Another text here, someone was wanted to know if you
- 10:49Speaker 3: have an Amazon wish list. I don't think this is
- 10:52Speaker 3: you personally, but you probably got one. But let's talk
- 10:54Speaker 3: about the shelter. They have an Amazon wish.
- 10:56Speaker 8: List, so we do have an Amazon wish list. We
- 11:00Speaker 8: also have a Chewy wish list. So if you hop
- 11:03Speaker 8: into the comments on some of our most recent Facebook posts,
- 11:06Speaker 8: there is a giant comment from us that always says
- 11:09Speaker 8: info and links, so you can see all the links
- 11:12Speaker 8: to all of our wish lists wherever you prefer to shop.
- 11:16Speaker 8: All of those are in the comments on our Facebook posts.
- 11:19Speaker 3: All right, are you out and about anywhere this weekend?
- 11:22Speaker 8: This weekend? We are not, so we're gonna be inside
- 11:26Speaker 8: the shelter. We do have an adoption special going on
- 11:28Speaker 8: this weekend. With the backyard brawl and all that, we've
- 11:32Speaker 8: decided to go with a twenty four dollars adoption special
- 11:36Speaker 8: for adult dogs and puppies. The cats are sitting this
- 11:39Speaker 8: one out just because the cats are having such an
- 11:41Speaker 8: easy time finding homes right now. We wanted to give
- 11:44Speaker 8: the dogs and puppies a leg up on that. But
- 11:47Speaker 8: you know, twenty four dollars to adopt any doggar puppy
- 11:49Speaker 8: in our care.
- 11:50Speaker 3: All right, sounds good. We will talk to you again
- 11:53Speaker 3: next week. Thanks a lot, thank you.
- 11:55Speaker 10: Have a good one you as well.
- 11:56Speaker 3: And Ruby is our not me, please spend of the week.
- 11:59Speaker 3: She is is about six years old, around twenty seven pounds.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Spade up the date on vaccines, great with calm dogs
- 12:06Speaker 3: and kids. So if you're looking for an older dog again,
- 12:08Speaker 3: a low maintenance dog, this would be the dog for you.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Texas Prayers for all of our andessent animals. Their only

- 15:16Speaker 3: get into the regarded numbers. You had the press event yesterday,
- 15:19Speaker 3: but before we get to that Wednesday night into Thursday morning,
- 15:23Speaker 3: I guess it was not only within the city of Charleston,
- 15:26Speaker 3: but in some of the outlying areas as well, there
- 15:28Speaker 3: was a rash of what was it, thirty five drug overdoses.
- 15:32Speaker 13: That's right, that we know, and I always want to
- 15:34Speaker 13: preface it by saying that, you know, we know what
- 15:37Speaker 13: we know when we know it. And so it was
- 15:40Speaker 13: a really challenging night, not just for our CFD, our
- 15:45Speaker 13: Charleston Fire Department in EMS who were making a lot
- 15:48Speaker 13: of those responses, our County Emergency Services as well, our
- 15:52Speaker 13: care team in the City of Charleston making sure they
- 15:55Speaker 13: could get to as many people as possible, and then
- 15:57Speaker 13: of course our Charleston Police Department. You know, I attribute
- 16:01Speaker 13: the non fatal that we know of, non fatal overdise
- 16:06Speaker 13: is overdoses to our rapid response.
- 16:08Speaker 14: You know.
- 16:09Speaker 13: Unfortunately, we here in Appalachian all across the Mountain state
- 16:13Speaker 13: are getting really good at that rapid response. And so
- 16:17Speaker 13: while it was at least in the time that I
- 16:21Speaker 13: have been here one of the worst nights that we've
- 16:23Speaker 13: ever had. And so kudos to our entire team. They
- 16:27Speaker 13: work from dusk to dawn. We are in constant communication
- 16:30Speaker 13: and so that's what we should be doing going out,
- 16:32Speaker 13: and that is the first line of attack that we
- 16:36Speaker 13: have save as many lives.
- 16:37Speaker 2: But let me be perfectly clear.
- 16:40Speaker 13: If you are in the city of Charleston peddling this
- 16:44Speaker 13: poison to our residents, to our neighbors, to our family members,
- 16:48Speaker 13: you will be cut.
- 16:49Speaker 2: You will be held accountable. We're coming for you.
- 16:53Speaker 3: And you know, drugs have been around since mellion of time.
- 16:57Speaker 3: We all know that of some swords, people been get
- 16:59Speaker 3: hind But what we're seeing out there now, not just
- 17:02Speaker 3: in Charleston but all across the country, really is not this.
- 17:06Speaker 3: None of them are good, don't get me wrong now,
- 17:08Speaker 3: but this is not what we saw. This is the
- 17:11Speaker 3: the smallest percentage can kill you. And it's also putting
- 17:17Speaker 3: the thesponders in rest. I mean, you hear stories of
- 17:21Speaker 3: the news all the time about first responders who came
- 17:23Speaker 3: in contact with a particle like a piece of sugar,
- 17:26Speaker 3: you know, rice or something and are hospitalized. I mean,
- 17:29Speaker 3: this is a different.
- 17:30Speaker 13: Brain they do it, and they do it disgusto because
- 17:32Speaker 13: they have a you know, it is who they are.
- 17:36Speaker 13: If you are in public service, we're here to serve
- 17:39Speaker 13: and that's what you do. You run and you help people,
- 17:42Speaker 13: and that's what they do. But also let me be clear,
- 17:44Speaker 13: as you know, you can have a couple of different
- 17:46Speaker 13: trains running on different tracks today, and so what the
- 17:50Speaker 13: public should feel confident about is we have lots of
- 17:53Speaker 13: different trains running on lots of different tracks.
- 17:56Speaker 2: The first response is.
- 17:57Speaker 13: Always saved lives, Save lives, but it is also secondary
- 18:01Speaker 13: collect as much information as you possibly can in that process.
- 18:06Speaker 2: We've done an outstanding job of doing this.
- 18:08Speaker 13: There is there is for good reason why we have
- 18:12Speaker 13: a very we have a low crime rate and a
- 18:14Speaker 13: very high solve rate because our folks are always investigating
- 18:17Speaker 13: and always looking. And I feel confident that we're going
- 18:22Speaker 13: to secure and take off the streets some of the
- 18:26Speaker 13: drugs that are being pushed around. But you're absolutely right.
- 18:29Speaker 13: I mean the type of drugs and what the drugs
- 18:32Speaker 13: are being lace with. We believe you know, xylazine. You
- 18:36Speaker 13: see that all across the country right now, and so
- 18:40Speaker 13: you know, I saw a lot of folks out on
- 18:41Speaker 13: social media. What we want to make sure that we
- 18:44Speaker 13: do is provide clear and accurate information that is done
- 18:50Speaker 13: in a responsible pray because you know, while I love
- 18:56Speaker 13: watching everybody's kids, you know, winning the football game, and
- 18:59Speaker 13: first day pictures and weddings and social media also can
- 19:02Speaker 13: take us down rabbit holes, and people just in the
- 19:05Speaker 13: light of or in the absence of information, people.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Like to make it up. You know this.
- 19:10Speaker 13: You've been in this business for a really long period
- 19:12Speaker 13: of time, so sooner rather than later, we'll have more
- 19:15Speaker 13: to share. But please know that we have lots of
- 19:18Speaker 13: different trains on lots of different tracks, and they've been
- 19:21Speaker 13: running for a while.
- 19:23Speaker 3: All right, let's transition into the At a press event
- 19:27Speaker 3: yesterday down a slight pasa and you don't let me forget.
- 19:31Speaker 3: I got to mention Adam Harris needs me to mention
- 19:34Speaker 3: something too about wrestling. I'll do that before I'll do that. Well,
- 19:37Speaker 3: they got the big event. I'll talk about that. I'll
- 19:39Speaker 3: talk about that before we close. But the regarded numbers, yeah.
- 19:43Speaker 13: It was absolutely incredible and quite frankly, you know, somebody
- 19:46Speaker 13: asked me yesterday did you expect them to go up
- 19:49Speaker 13: this year?
- 19:50Speaker 2: You know, mother nature. She messes with us.
- 19:52Speaker 13: As I like to say, sometimes we're in control of
- 19:55Speaker 13: a lot, planning and working together with our city teams
- 20:00Speaker 13: on this huge, huge event. But mother and nature can
- 20:04Speaker 13: mess things up for us. But she and she tried to.
- 20:06Speaker 13: I mean, the temperatures got up to ninety but we
- 20:09Speaker 13: had forty over forty million dollars forty point one million
- 20:13Speaker 13: dollars in economic impact. You know, two hundred and twenty
- 20:18Speaker 13: five thousand people. I say all the time when I
- 20:21Speaker 13: started back to regard of many years ago, it's kind
- 20:23Speaker 13: of like a birthday party. You send out invitations and
- 20:25Speaker 13: you go, I hope people are gonna come. Gosh you
- 20:28Speaker 13: is are they? And they did. It's like holding a
- 20:31Speaker 13: party for two hundred and twenty five thousand people. But
- 20:34Speaker 13: let me also be clear about this because someone said, oh,
- 20:37Speaker 13: just you know, it's just a big party.
- 20:39Speaker 2: What does it do? What does it do?
- 20:41Speaker 13: I'm a daughter of a small business owner. I'll tell
- 20:43Speaker 13: you what events like this do. My job is mayors
- 20:45Speaker 13: to get more people in front of your shop. But
- 20:47Speaker 13: your job to get them in the shop. Whatever you're selling,
- 20:50Speaker 13: whatever your marketing is, that's not my job. That's your job.
- 20:52Speaker 13: Dave and so what it did for our businesses and
- 20:55Speaker 13: downtown restaurants and shops. By the way, I don't get
- 20:59Speaker 13: this for million. I want everybody to understand that I
- 21:02Speaker 13: don't get it. It goes to support local businesses. That
- 21:05Speaker 13: is what is generated from this event that we hold.
- 21:10Speaker 13: You know, if it is not the largest in the state,
- 21:12Speaker 13: it is quickly becoming the largest event in the state
- 21:15Speaker 13: of West Virginia. What is significant about the numbers that
- 21:19Speaker 13: we saw were twenty six percent of the attendees we're
- 21:24Speaker 13: from a fifty mile radius and beyond, and those you know,
- 21:29Speaker 13: seventy eight percent of visitors.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Were from out of state.
- 21:32Speaker 13: It's a mayor's dream, Dave, to have people come from
- 21:35Speaker 13: outside and to spend the night with us.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Lots of folks come in for concerts. Right, you're here
- 21:40Speaker 2: for a night.
- 21:41Speaker 13: You may live closed, you live within a you know,
- 21:43Speaker 13: thirty minute, you know, spend the night at hotel, Dave,
- 21:45Speaker 13: you're going to probably back home, get somebody to eat,
- 21:47Speaker 13: and you're going If you are spending the night in
- 21:49Speaker 13: a hotel, that's when we see real revenue generated because
- 21:52Speaker 13: you're getting supper, you're getting coffee. Somebody sees the shop,
- 21:56Speaker 13: they want to go get coffee and breakfast. So it
- 21:59Speaker 13: is significent, wildly significant that I mentioned that USA Cycling
- 22:04Speaker 13: is not just a bike race. Regatta is not just concerts.
- 22:08Speaker 13: It is true economic impact. And you know I talk
- 22:12Speaker 13: a lot about outside influence. Businesses use the Regatta as
- 22:17Speaker 13: a recruiting tool they do. I was on the stage
- 22:21Speaker 13: at the West Virginia Business Summit a couple of weeks
- 22:24Speaker 13: ago with Mayor Patrick Farrell of Huntington and Mayor Tommy
- 22:27Speaker 13: Joyce of Pergersberg, who you know, both of those men,
- 22:30Speaker 13: and we talked about promoting your city and what you're
- 22:33Speaker 13: doing within your city that not only supports the quality
- 22:37Speaker 13: of life that you have here and lots of things
- 22:40Speaker 13: to see and do, but also bringing business people in.
- 22:45Speaker 13: It is incredibly important for us to do this. We
- 22:48Speaker 13: had an engineering firm that looked at us. They came
- 22:51Speaker 13: to Charleston put their headquarters here, but they looked at us.
- 22:54Speaker 13: And when I was talking to their recruit meant director coordinator,
- 22:58Speaker 13: I said to him, when you're in viewing these these engineers,
- 23:02Speaker 13: what what do they want out of a city? And
- 23:05Speaker 13: he said to me, hand to the heavens. They we
- 23:08Speaker 13: took him down on Friday Mayor. They loved the concerts,
- 23:11Speaker 13: and they liked that park you have. You were doing
- 23:14Speaker 13: like a little festival there and boy oh boy, Brewers
- 23:17Speaker 13: Row and that lots of things to see and do.
- 23:20Speaker 13: It is the number one travel motivator to get people
- 23:24Speaker 13: out of your house downtown on the west side of
- 23:26Speaker 13: the east end of South Hills. Lots of things to
- 23:28Speaker 13: see and do. Number one travel motivator if you live
- 23:31Speaker 13: in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Ohio to come here. By the way,
- 23:36Speaker 13: who came to the regatta. West Virginia is always going
- 23:39Speaker 13: to be overall our number one for anything that we do.
- 23:42Speaker 13: But this is the city of origin of people who
- 23:45Speaker 13: came here. Pittsburgh, Black Beckley, Bluefield, Charleston, South Carolina, the
- 23:52Speaker 13: other Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg, Washington, d C. Clarksburg, Western Columbus, Roanoke,
- 23:57Speaker 13: and Charlotte, North Carolina.
- 23:59Speaker 2: That's top ten. I'll take that any day of the week.
- 24:03Speaker 13: So when people say, well, my daughter she's going to
- 24:05Speaker 13: North Carolina see a concert, good, I'm glad we support
- 24:09Speaker 13: traveling tourism. As a former tourism commissioner, I can tell
- 24:12Speaker 13: you this, We're not the we're the fun people because
- 24:14Speaker 13: we look like the fun people, but we're the money people,
- 24:17Speaker 13: and so we have a lot to offer in the
- 24:19Speaker 13: state of West Virginia. Regatta is just one thing that
- 24:22Speaker 13: we do, but it's quickly it has quickly become one
- 24:26Speaker 13: of the largest things.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Give us the thumbnail on how you arrive at these things,
- 24:31Speaker 3: I mean, like where they come from and and because
- 24:34Speaker 3: that's that's what you know. People say, well, how do
- 24:36Speaker 3: they get these numbers? And we don't need to get
- 24:38Speaker 3: too technical, but exactly and out of Tim Brady with
- 24:41Speaker 3: the CVB is also involved in this. How do you
- 24:45Speaker 3: how do you know they came from Pittsburgh?
- 24:46Speaker 13: Yeah, you we use by the way, we use companies
- 24:50Speaker 13: that track and monitor by the way, let me go backwards,
- 24:54Speaker 13: hotel receipts, restaurants, shops.
- 24:58Speaker 7: You know.
- 24:58Speaker 13: People say, do you just take picture of the crowd? No,
- 25:01Speaker 13: we absolutely, I mean we do that. Yeah, don't get
- 25:04Speaker 13: me wrong, because I'd like to know for a variety
- 25:06Speaker 13: of different reasons. And so we do that. But we
- 25:09Speaker 13: use destination operating systems. There's tools in the industry. Zartico
- 25:14Speaker 13: is the company that we use, although there are lots
- 25:16Speaker 13: of other companies and economic impact calculators. When you put
- 25:21Speaker 13: in all of the things that we know, the revenue
- 25:25Speaker 13: that is generated from hotels and restaurants and shops, how
- 25:29Speaker 13: long they stay there, and oh, by the way, if
- 25:31Speaker 13: you don't know, everybody has in their hand, yeah, this
- 25:34Speaker 13: little device that also tracks movement. It's a huge part
- 25:39Speaker 13: of it as well. So it's not one system or
- 25:43Speaker 13: one thing. It's a variety of different things that we measure.
- 25:45Speaker 13: So when people say, oh, this is made up, I
- 25:47Speaker 13: can promise you it's not. We rely on accurate and
- 25:51Speaker 13: thorough factual information in what we do. Because, by the way,
- 25:57Speaker 13: this isn't this isn't trend business. That show business is
- 26:00Speaker 13: a very serious event. We have a great time. We
- 26:03Speaker 13: bring people here, but it's a lot of heavy lifting.
- 26:06Speaker 13: And I will say this, as I said to the
- 26:08Speaker 13: folks who were on stage with me, the most important
- 26:10Speaker 13: people in the Charleston cern Roe Regatta are our employees
- 26:14Speaker 13: of the City of Charlestown police, fire ams. By the way,
- 26:17Speaker 13: the people who do the heavy lifting refuse your refuse team,
- 26:21Speaker 13: By golly, they work so hard. You should see how
- 26:24Speaker 13: hard Steven works. I don't go to bed at regatta
- 26:26Speaker 13: nights sometimes till two three in the morning before him
- 26:30Speaker 13: and I'm watching him and I'm waving to him as
- 26:32Speaker 13: I'm leaving, and he's still there at two am. It's streets,
- 26:36Speaker 13: it's traffic, it's parking.
- 26:38Speaker 9: Rex.
- 26:39Speaker 13: The thing that we saw from Regatta more than ever before.
- 26:42Speaker 13: When we did our survey families, families, families, families. I
- 26:46Speaker 13: was elbowed up to a family that was from Pittsburgh
- 26:49Speaker 13: and they said, now.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Is all this free right here in this area?
- 26:53Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 26:53Speaker 7: Free?
- 26:54Speaker 2: Do you have to buy tickets to go on the
- 26:56Speaker 2: bull ride or no?
- 26:57Speaker 7: Free?
- 26:58Speaker 2: How about the face make no free? How about to
- 27:00Speaker 2: do the class with the aerial artists? No free.
- 27:03Speaker 13: It's because of our sponsors and first and foremost in
- 27:05Speaker 13: Cove Boy, oh boy, they make it happen in West
- 27:08Speaker 13: Banco and W Thomas, the AMC and USI and just
- 27:14Speaker 13: we couldn't do it without them because it is a
- 27:16Speaker 13: big ticket item. It's a big ticket they private companies
- 27:20Speaker 13: have the bulk of and these are, by the way,
- 27:23Speaker 13: West Virginia companies, Dave. These are West Virginia guys and
- 27:26Speaker 13: girls that put their money into this. So when people say, oh,
- 27:31Speaker 13: it's a waste of money, your businesses are pretty smart businesses.
- 27:34Speaker 13: They know they have limited budgets, and they know where
- 27:37Speaker 13: they're going to spend their marketing and advertising and recruitment dollars,
- 27:41Speaker 13: and they put it into us, and for good reason,
- 27:43Speaker 13: because our footprint and you can look at the cities
- 27:46Speaker 13: that we market to is monumental.
- 27:48Speaker 15: Let me.
- 27:48Speaker 3: I got a couple quick text for one that says,
- 27:50Speaker 3: have you thought about getting hotels, restaurants, the ballpark, play center,
- 27:53Speaker 3: et cetera together? Maybe put together an all in one
- 27:55Speaker 3: package deal visitors could purchase when coming to the regatta.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great idea.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Totally unrelated. Some money said, anything going on with the minisuaudatorium?
- 28:04Speaker 2: Gosh, thank you so much. Yes, we had.
- 28:08Speaker 13: We hired an engineering firm to come in to and
- 28:11Speaker 13: structural engineers, I should say, to come in and look
- 28:14Speaker 13: at the structural integrity. It is my hope, cross your fingers.
- 28:18Speaker 13: They had a couple of blips in their system and
- 28:21Speaker 13: couldn't get the report to us when we felt like
- 28:24Speaker 13: it was coming to us so sooner rather than later.
- 28:27Speaker 13: What we wanted to do was we wanted to see
- 28:30Speaker 13: what what can be salvaged, what can't be and then
- 28:33Speaker 13: what the cost of it is going to be either
- 28:36Speaker 13: to build, to fix up, or to rebuild.
- 28:40Speaker 2: But we had to do the structural engineering report first.
- 28:43Speaker 2: That idea.
- 28:45Speaker 3: All right, So many things going on this weekend. I
- 28:47Speaker 3: know we've got the Leah's Legacy event going on downtown,
- 28:50Speaker 3: so I had those folks on.
- 28:54Speaker 13: That.
- 28:54Speaker 2: I get to be a judge. I'm so excited about that.
- 28:57Speaker 13: Sports Avenues having a line dance competition and I think
- 29:00Speaker 13: I may be going to that.
- 29:02Speaker 3: That's all my schedule easy now. Also, Mountaineers Night Out
- 29:06Speaker 3: is happening in Direct Pavilion tomorrow night, so that's going on.
- 29:10Speaker 3: And our good friend Adam Harris wanted me to mention
- 29:11Speaker 3: for him slam Plaza four the night at slack Plaza
- 29:15Speaker 3: after the Music at Cydney Center Live, five big matches
- 29:17Speaker 3: including a Gootta Pro Wrestling Championship.

- 29:22Speaker 13: Thrills, Al and Timber, they just love it. They'll all
- 29:26Speaker 13: be bellied up watching it. It's it is, It is amazing.
- 29:30Speaker 13: I just started to understand and get into this because
- 29:32Speaker 13: you know, our chief is stuff Matthew Sutton. This is
- 29:34Speaker 13: his Sun Moon Stars in baseball. But I started to
- 29:38Speaker 13: really get into it.
- 29:39Speaker 2: The kids love it. There's so many little guys and
- 29:42Speaker 2: gals that come out. It's free and it's free.
- 29:44Speaker 3: That's a great thing about ittle be tonight as well.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Great sponsors.

- 32:34Speaker 3: Cast member from the Book of Mormon. Coming up a
- 32:36Speaker 3: little bit later on in the show, I put it
- 32:40Speaker 3: out here. Dave Canon, anammission Natal Lieutenant is here not
- 32:42Speaker 3: part of the Book of Mormon. You're not participating, all right?
- 32:46Speaker 3: I mean you've been a mountain. Are have you ever
- 32:49Speaker 3: done any acting? You've ever done anyth Yes?
- 32:51Speaker 2: Every day?
- 32:52Speaker 3: Now I'm met on a stage now, yes, okay, yes,
- 32:58Speaker 3: something that you enjoyed doing?
- 32:59Speaker 2: Yes, And I'm going to do I.
- 33:02Speaker 19: I have to get into a Charleston Light Opera Guild
- 33:06Speaker 19: production before Missus Pascinetti retires. I hope she doesn't retire
- 33:11Speaker 19: anytime soon. Delaney's been in many and I'm a theater mom.
- 33:16Speaker 19: I always thought i'd be a sports mom. Wanted to
- 33:18Speaker 19: be a sports mom, but a theater mom is so
- 33:22Speaker 19: much more interesting.
- 33:23Speaker 2: And I am going to be in a play.
- 33:26Speaker 19: I just told myself this and Suemanahan and I she's
- 33:29Speaker 19: a theater mother.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Also, you know, the the best.
- 33:32Speaker 19: Little whorehouse in Texas, I think is coming up in
- 33:35Speaker 19: the next productions of Charles Light Opera Guild. So we
- 33:39Speaker 19: say we're gonna do it. So I'm gonna do it.
- 33:41Speaker 19: I can't sing worth a lick, but I have to
- 33:44Speaker 19: be in one before Missus Passinetti.
- 33:47Speaker 2: She's just amazing. You have you do you know who
- 33:50Speaker 2: she met?
- 33:52Speaker 19: Oh my gosh, in some regards.
- 33:55Speaker 2: She reminds me of my mother, and Delaney.
- 33:59Speaker 19: Will say that too, but she's She's why those productions
- 34:04Speaker 19: are just so good. National you wait, Anastasia's coming up
- 34:08Speaker 19: at the Clay Center, so people need to go see it.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Yeah, people also need to clean up. We've got fall
- 34:15Speaker 3: cleanups coming out.
- 34:16Speaker 2: That was one of the things I mentioned. Yeah at
- 34:19Speaker 2: the Old it's tomorrow.
- 34:20Speaker 3: This is the first one.
- 34:21Speaker 19: Right, yes, no, the first fall one, yea, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 34:25Speaker 19: We've had two in the spring.
- 34:27Speaker 2: You know, I keep counting.
- 34:28Speaker 19: I've been as a county commissioner for eight months, nine months,
- 34:31Speaker 19: and they are fascinating to watch people line up hours
- 34:37Speaker 19: in advance. They're pulling along the normal things, bunch of garbage,
- 34:41Speaker 19: stuff you pulled out from the side of your house,
- 34:43Speaker 19: stuff you pulled out from under the house, refrigerator, stoves, boats,
- 34:48Speaker 19: and I went to the one I don't know last spring,
- 34:53Speaker 19: and yes, they can take your boat and they just
- 34:57Speaker 19: crunch it up and put it in the the the
- 35:00Speaker 19: trucks and the trucks go out. So this one is
- 35:02Speaker 19: going to be It didn't Clanden and we call it
- 35:05Speaker 19: the Clindennon Area, the site of the Old Herbert Hoover
- 35:07Speaker 19: High School. So folks start getting ready clean up. You
- 35:12Speaker 19: have until tonight and then get ready and get in there.
- 35:16Speaker 3: And there'll be several, you know throughout the county. They're
- 35:18Speaker 3: always arn one.
- 35:19Speaker 19: Well, the second one is October fourth, and it is
- 35:22Speaker 19: in South Charleston.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Okay, okay, but this this one's in Clinton.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Where is it at the site of the old Herbert
- 35:27Speaker 2: Hoover High.
- 35:28Speaker 3: School, which is literally what you just said, pay attention day, Yes, and.
- 35:31Speaker 2: It's right along that road.
- 35:32Speaker 19: And I just the last thing I think of Herbert
- 35:34Speaker 19: Hoover High School is in June of twenty sixteen, and
- 35:38Speaker 19: going there and looking inside there and just sing a
- 35:41Speaker 19: line where the water.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Was, and so get your stuff out there. That's a
- 35:45Speaker 3: great oportunity to get a Clinton. You want to talk a
- 35:47Speaker 3: little bit about the paint creak water.
- 35:50Speaker 19: I thought, this is why I do. Let people say,
- 35:52Speaker 19: how's county commission? I love it because look, I just
- 35:55Speaker 19: talked about Clindennon and then anywhere, and actually I'm sure
- 35:57Speaker 19: that folks are going to come from outside then and
- 36:00Speaker 19: that's quite all right to drop things off and help
- 36:03Speaker 19: with your fall cleanup. But Pink Creek Watershed association is
- 36:08Speaker 19: doing more cleanup, and at our next meeting, we will
- 36:11Speaker 19: be giving them more of the money from a settlement
- 36:14Speaker 19: that we had, Like can you tell that I wasn't
- 36:17Speaker 19: there when they did all this, But I know that
- 36:19Speaker 19: we're gonna we're gonna vote on money. And I have
- 36:22Speaker 19: known Pete Saminski for probably thirty years, since I was
- 36:27Speaker 19: a young reporter doing stories about Paint Creek. And you know,
- 36:31Speaker 19: I listened to the mayor on my way in. All
- 36:33Speaker 19: of these are economic development drivers. You know, you think, well,
- 36:37Speaker 19: Paint Creek eighty two thousand dollars, you're going to give them, Well, yes,
- 36:41Speaker 19: they're going to clean up, but they also want to
- 36:43Speaker 19: have bike trails and various recreation on the way because
- 36:49Speaker 19: Kanawa County is the gateway to one of our newest
- 36:53Speaker 19: national parks, the New River Gorge, And so that's why
- 36:56Speaker 19: it's so important that we are out in that area
- 37:00Speaker 19: and focusing on that area.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Also, we talked to the mayor, as you mentioned earlier,
- 37:04Speaker 3: about Regatta and things of that nature and the economic
- 37:06Speaker 3: gamepact of Regatta. But yeah, but there's a lot of
- 37:10Speaker 3: other things going on as far as tourism go throughout
- 37:12Speaker 3: the county. I mean, and I know you want to
- 37:15Speaker 3: talk a little bit about about the Kanawha Valley tourism
- 37:19Speaker 3: in general.
- 37:20Speaker 19: Yes, because she talked about Tim Brady and when we
- 37:23Speaker 19: talked about the CVB, we're like, oh, yeah, the CVB.
- 37:26Speaker 19: We think it's the the CVB that we've known for
- 37:30Speaker 19: so long with Tim Brady at the Helm Alicia Bailey
- 37:33Speaker 19: before that. But we have a Central West Virginia Convention
- 37:38Speaker 19: and Visitors Bureau and it's like, where's that? Where was
- 37:40Speaker 19: that from?
- 37:41Speaker 2: Well, that's Kanaha.
- 37:42Speaker 19: Counties as a whole, and Lafleur Lucas before her, Carrie
- 37:49Speaker 19: ward Smith was the executive director, and they have really
- 37:53Speaker 19: turned this around that it's now accredited again, meaning we
- 37:56Speaker 19: get the funds from outside the city the mayor's talking
- 38:00Speaker 19: about the or outside all the cities talking about the hotel,
- 38:05Speaker 19: motel taxes and heads and beds. Well, that's what the
- 38:09Speaker 19: CVB in Kanaw County will now get or kanaw Valley Tourism,
- 38:15Speaker 19: and that is.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Just turning around. They're rebranding it.
- 38:18Speaker 19: They're going to get a new website because all of
- 38:21Speaker 19: those economic drivers and economic numbers need to be known
- 38:25Speaker 19: for the county and outside the County too, and just
- 38:28Speaker 19: doing some amazing things. Follow them on Facebook for right
- 38:32Speaker 19: now and you'll see the events that are going to
- 38:35Speaker 19: be taking place this weekend, whether it's in Dunbar, whether
- 38:38Speaker 19: it's the Pickle Palooza that's coming up tomorrow at Slack Plaza.
- 38:43Speaker 19: And I can't decide what do we call it. Is
- 38:45Speaker 19: it slack Plaza or is it the Civic Center or
- 38:48Speaker 19: the Civic Center city city Center?
- 38:52Speaker 3: You see what I mean, city Center at Slack Plaza,
- 38:55Speaker 3: That's what I think. Yes, And of course you got wrestling
- 38:57Speaker 3: there tonight. We don't want to forget that. Oh really, yeah,
- 39:00Speaker 3: this is like we're God of Pro Wrestling. Free Showdown
- 39:02Speaker 3: Tim Adam Adam Adam Harris would be would body slam
- 39:06Speaker 3: me if I didn't mention that they got that av going.
- 39:08Speaker 11: On the night?
- 39:09Speaker 19: Why doesn't he just start when he's finished with wrestling,
- 39:11Speaker 19: start getting ready for Pickle Palooza Because I I told
- 39:15Speaker 19: Brian Cooper that I would volunteer and that means like
- 39:18Speaker 19: nine nine o'clock in the morning.
- 39:20Speaker 2: So if Adam can start on our work.
- 39:23Speaker 3: Okay for tomorrow collaboration.
- 39:25Speaker 19: Yeah, and Delaney, I'm a judge and I'm doing with
- 39:28Speaker 19: games too with Rory Perry. He is he's now the
- 39:33Speaker 19: owner since his dad, Mike Perry passed a heritage farm.
- 39:36Speaker 19: We need to talk about that some more too. But
- 39:37Speaker 19: Delaney's the MC and I'm going to judge some pickles
- 39:40Speaker 19: and do all kind of fun stuff, so in between
- 39:43Speaker 19: some football games and all kinds.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Of stuff that's happening tomorrow.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just so many things going on. I've mentioned
- 39:48Speaker 3: you mentioned the dun Barfall Festival. What's happening tomorrow. Uh,
- 39:51Speaker 3: we got the Mountaineers Night out over the carpet tomorrow.
- 39:54Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to that.
- 39:56Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 39:56Speaker 3: So, I mean there's just too many things to do, uh,
- 39:58Speaker 3: speak of the things to do when there are young people.
- 40:00Speaker 3: There's been a lot of emphasis on playgrounds here and
- 40:04Speaker 3: the one you know in the Tornado area, and just
- 40:08Speaker 3: so many in Coonskin. You know that's right.
- 40:10Speaker 19: And we're getting to get Pioneer Park too over in
- 40:12Speaker 19: the eastern part of the county. Yes, well, we opened
- 40:15Speaker 19: up Hoppy's Kids Happies Playground yesterday, made it official and
- 40:21Speaker 19: as I sat up there at Coonskin, it's beautiful.
- 40:24Speaker 2: It is a beautiful playground.
- 40:26Speaker 19: I looked over when I first pulled up, I'm like, oh,
- 40:28Speaker 19: there's that way little one over there that we used
- 40:31Speaker 19: to take Delaney to twenty years ago.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Now this one is beautiful. But I just want folks
- 40:36Speaker 2: to know.
- 40:37Speaker 19: You sit there and you look over and there's the
- 40:40Speaker 19: skate park at Coonskin. Then there's disc golf and people
- 40:44Speaker 19: were running along, and then you know, I had to
- 40:46Speaker 19: tell my story about the tennis courts. When I worked
- 40:49Speaker 19: for Ken Heckler back thirty five years ago, was the
- 40:52Speaker 19: summer I was the mountaineer and he loved to play tennis.
- 40:54Speaker 19: He took all of us. I didn't know how to play.
- 40:56Speaker 19: I served it hit him right in the back. And yes, everyone,
- 41:00Speaker 19: we know, we know that tennis courts are in poor
- 41:02Speaker 19: shape and we want to do something about that. So
- 41:05Speaker 19: that's that's coming up. So yeah, we have to have
- 41:09Speaker 19: better tennis courts at Coonskin.
- 41:10Speaker 3: All right, you got a couple more minutes left. Anything
- 41:12Speaker 3: else anyone you want to you right?
- 41:13Speaker 19: I want to mention yesterday and I don't think that
- 41:16Speaker 19: the mayor mentioned it, but she was there. You know,
- 41:18Speaker 19: we follow in the same circles sometimes, but I just
- 41:20Speaker 19: want to mention, and it goes with everything that we've
- 41:24Speaker 19: talked about here.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Booker T.
- 41:25Speaker 19: Washington's mother, Jane Ferguson, was honored yesterday by the unveiling
- 41:30Speaker 19: of a monument at spring Hill Cemetery. Now we need
- 41:36Speaker 19: we as more of a community, perhaps need to know
- 41:39Speaker 19: about Booker T. Washington, that mother Jane Ferguson left when
- 41:44Speaker 19: when eighteen sixty five they came in August of eighteen
- 41:46Speaker 19: sixty five to come to not just freedom, when they
- 41:50Speaker 19: walked walked from Salem, Virginia to Malden, West Virginia for
- 41:55Speaker 19: freedom and dignity. And so Booker T. Washington is ours.
- 42:01Speaker 19: His developing who he was, his developed being took place
- 42:07Speaker 19: in Malden, West Virginia with the Roughners. And that is
- 42:10Speaker 19: a story that that you know, who we have as
- 42:12Speaker 19: a treasure is Larry L.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Rowe, attorney at Lawn.
- 42:16Speaker 3: I always say that you have to say that way,
- 42:18Speaker 3: but he.
- 42:18Speaker 19: Is an historian and he he has written a book
- 42:22Speaker 19: that I'd love for you to talk to him about it.
- 42:25Speaker 19: And but that's that's our history. But that's also historic tourism,
- 42:30Speaker 19: because they're going to have an African American tour that
- 42:34Speaker 19: takes place and goes through all up Spring Hill Cemetery.
- 42:38Speaker 2: That's economic development.
- 42:40Speaker 19: I work in a place at the Brennan Center where
- 42:42Speaker 19: they go down to Selma and Tuskegee, and like, oh,
- 42:45Speaker 19: Booker T.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Washington. I'm like, hold the phone here, Booker T.
- 42:48Speaker 19: Washington is ours come to West Virginia and I'm going
- 42:51Speaker 19: to have education and tourism and money coming into the
- 42:56Speaker 19: state with Larry L.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Rowe giving you all the history of our Booker T. Washington.
- 43:01Speaker 3: All right. I wish I had more time, but I
- 43:03Speaker 3: got to turn it over to the to the stage
- 43:05Speaker 3: now for the Book of Mormon.
- 43:06Speaker 19: That's right, right, there's one word that I keep thinking
- 43:09Speaker 19: of when I think a Book of Mormon.
- 43:11Speaker 3: They say it a lot. All right, we'll just leave
- 43:12Speaker 3: it at that. Don't get me fired. We've had enough
- 43:15Speaker 3: people lose their jobs for broadcasting life.
- 43:17Speaker 2: They'll tell that a lady too. I'm like, you know,
- 43:20Speaker 2: Jimmy Kimmel was gone like that. Any of us could
- 43:22Speaker 2: be gone like that.
- 43:23Speaker 3: All right, Cano County Commission, Adlington, appreciate you being here.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Thanks a lot, Thank you. We'll take a break back
- 43:27Speaker 3: after this. Brought to you by the Eric J. Tar
- 43:30Speaker 3: Family Businesses.
- 43:32Speaker 8: Eric J.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Tar Family Businesses want to Thank you for supporting local
- 43:35Speaker 1: small businesses.
- 43:37Speaker 12: When we think about substance use disorder in West Virginia,
- 43:40Speaker 12: we need everyone to come together and motivate change. Artists
- 43:44Speaker 12: and recovery activists throughout the state have teamed up to
- 43:47Speaker 12: paint murals that inspire hard conversations. It may seem small,
- 43:51Speaker 12: but everyone played a role in breaking through stigma and
- 43:54Speaker 12: turning these murals into something vibrant and meaningful. When it
- 43:58Speaker 12: comes to how we think about recovery, it takes all
- 44:01Speaker 12: of us to break through addiction. Learn more at back

- 46:08Speaker 7: Hey, thank you so much for having me.
- 46:09Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you, thank you for being here. Tell
- 46:11Speaker 3: us a little bit about you and then later about
- 46:14Speaker 3: your role in this production. We want to know about
- 46:16Speaker 3: you the person, to give us a little bit of
- 46:18Speaker 3: your background.
- 46:20Speaker 7: Yeah, so I'm born and raised from Atlanta. I recently
- 46:26Speaker 7: was just there doing some vacation some downtown. I'm going
- 46:28Speaker 7: to see some family and friends. I have a bachelor's
- 46:34Speaker 7: from the University of Alabama role Tide, and I got
- 46:39Speaker 7: my master's at Georgia State back in Atlanta, both in
- 46:41Speaker 7: vocal performance. So I started doing performing, I would say,
- 46:47Speaker 7: at a young age, just like in church choir, in
- 46:50Speaker 7: church acting camp and community things. I ended up doing
- 46:56Speaker 7: it like professionally, I want to say I started in
- 46:58Speaker 7: twenty seventeen. Uh and I've been going full time ever since.
- 47:03Speaker 7: But uh, I've been now with the production of book
- 47:06Speaker 7: Mormon off and on for three years.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Noowh uh.
- 47:11Speaker 7: And the role that I play now is Mafalah Timbi,
- 47:14Speaker 7: So I'm the father of Nabolungi uh in the show.
- 47:18Speaker 7: So I'm kind of like the village leader innocence uh.
- 47:22Speaker 1: And so getting to play this.
- 47:25Speaker 7: After playing a different role in the show has been
- 47:28Speaker 7: fun and so dynamic to find a new way of
- 47:32Speaker 7: telling this story and bringing it around the country.
- 47:35Speaker 3: But a violence showing five any line brought to you
- 47:37Speaker 3: a part by a Bridge Valley Community Technical College. So
- 47:39Speaker 3: one of the people what's made I mean this shows
- 47:41Speaker 3: this is really a part of I mean of the
- 47:44Speaker 3: uh of the American and elsewhere landscape. I mean my
- 47:48Speaker 3: two previous guests, I just before you had the mayor
- 47:50Speaker 3: of Charleston and then I had one of our county commissioners,
- 47:52Speaker 3: and they both had seen it. They both talked about
- 47:55Speaker 3: how wonderful it was. What is it that's made this
- 47:58Speaker 3: such a pop feel? Her production? Over the years and
- 48:01Speaker 3: with staying power.
- 48:03Speaker 7: I think you have to look at it from top
- 48:06Speaker 7: to bottom. You have writing from Matt and Trey Stone.
- 48:09Speaker 2: You have.
- 48:11Speaker 7: Music from Bobby Lopez, who is responsible for you know,
- 48:14Speaker 7: Frozen and so many other amazing musical works. Also the story.
- 48:20Speaker 7: I think you know it's back dropped as a comedy,
- 48:23Speaker 7: but it does have a lot of heart to it
- 48:24Speaker 7: as well. And one thing that I always take away
- 48:28Speaker 7: from it every night being with my amazing cast and
- 48:31Speaker 7: telling the story, it is about community, and I think
- 48:35Speaker 7: that's a very big subject in our world right now,
- 48:39Speaker 7: is building community and and having that be the heart
- 48:43Speaker 7: of the story while also having some good laugh and
- 48:46Speaker 7: having some amazing singing going on.
- 48:48Speaker 3: I got to ask you, have you been to Charleston,
- 48:50Speaker 3: West Virginia before?
- 48:52Speaker 7: I honestly, I've been trying to rack my brain if
- 48:55Speaker 7: I have, and I'm sure if I have not been,
- 48:57Speaker 7: fully I've passed through. So I'm excited to explore. While
- 49:02Speaker 7: we're there. I always try to find like some good
- 49:05Speaker 7: coffee shops to you know, get get a nice cup
- 49:07Speaker 7: of coffee, maybe.
- 49:08Speaker 18: Do some work.
- 49:09Speaker 7: Also local eateries. I'm a big foodie. You Oh yeah,
- 49:12Speaker 7: and you're talking about language recommendations.
- 49:15Speaker 3: I would gladly well, I would have to give you
- 49:18Speaker 3: those off the air, because you know, if you mentioned
- 49:20Speaker 3: one and you don't mention the other, and we make
- 49:22Speaker 3: our money on advertisement here, Yeah, why why didn't you
- 49:26Speaker 3: mention mine? But I will tell you we get some
- 49:27Speaker 3: wonderful coffee shops. I'll tell you one place that you
- 49:29Speaker 3: need to check out when you're Charleston, right, you need
- 49:31Speaker 3: to go to Taylor Books. It's a downtown great place
- 49:34Speaker 3: to get a cup of coffee and get a scone,
- 49:37Speaker 3: and it's the whole vibe.
- 49:38Speaker 8: You know.
- 49:39Speaker 3: Taylor Books Downtown is not far from I'm sure where
- 49:41Speaker 3: you're going to be. Of course, you'd be performing at
- 49:43Speaker 3: the Clay Center. So I'll go ahead and give you
- 49:44Speaker 3: that recommendation.
- 49:45Speaker 7: Taylor Books, Right, I'll thank you.
- 49:47Speaker 3: Go check it out. The production is going to be
- 49:49Speaker 3: next Wednesday night at the Clay Center. And I'll tell
- 49:51Speaker 3: you you're gonna love the Clay Center. It is a
- 49:53Speaker 3: gem in really this part of the country. It is
- 49:56Speaker 3: a fantastic facility. You're gonna love performing there. I have
- 49:59Speaker 3: no doubt.
- 50:00Speaker 17: I can't wait.
- 50:01Speaker 7: I can't wait, especially like it's that moment when I
- 50:04Speaker 7: first come on stage and I get to see the
- 50:06Speaker 7: audience and it is it just reminds me why I
- 50:10Speaker 7: do this, and so I hope that they are ready
- 50:13Speaker 7: for a good time and some good laugh and good
- 50:16Speaker 7: music and like I said, a story that's all about heart.
- 50:19Speaker 3: All right, It's gonna be next Wednesday, I have the

- 51:08Speaker 3: I think many forget that the Fixum Clinic is helping
- 51:10Speaker 3: the shelter a lot with the huge number of injured
- 51:12Speaker 3: and sick animals that the Humane Association sadly cannot see
- 51:16Speaker 3: or take in. These great people can also use donations

- 51:22Speaker 3: as towels for their patients. Please don't forget about them.
