- 1:00Speaker 1: The great Johnny Paycheck opens the show today.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Welcome in this portion of the program brought to you
- 1:06Speaker 2: by Central Texas Sports Medicine. We are filled up on
- 1:10Speaker 2: this Monday. We're going to hear Mike Elko's comments from
- 1:14Speaker 2: earlier this afternoon. We're going to hear from Marcel Reed.
- 1:18Speaker 2: We're going to hear from Pat Murphy. The Brewers manager,
- 1:23Speaker 2: they will be starting game two with the Dodgers here
- 1:26Speaker 2: coming up. And in the second hour, it's the Writers'
- 1:30Speaker 2: Roundtable with Robert Cessna and Rusty Burson. Mike Elko met
- 1:35Speaker 2: with the media today and told them he regrets the
- 1:39Speaker 2: way he answered a question. And taking on Texags and
- 1:46Speaker 2: Billy Lucci, calling it Billy Cesspool. Said Elko, I think
- 1:52Speaker 2: everybody knows I have a tremendous relationship with Billy. I
- 1:56Speaker 2: appreciate Billy. I appreciate him being here today. And we
- 2:02Speaker 2: will hear the rest of his comments coming up here
- 2:05Speaker 2: in just a few moments. Elko was obviously frustrated following
- 2:11Speaker 2: another SEC loss at Missouri on Saturday. in which his
- 2:16Speaker 2: offense could just score two field goals, 27-6, the final.
- 2:24Speaker 1: David Alano's been.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Really good, but unfortunately he's not scoring touchdowns. He's just
- 2:30Speaker 2: kicking field goals, and he won't have to worry about
- 2:33Speaker 2: an SEC opponent. This week they will host Citadel at noon.
- 2:39Speaker 2: They will return with a trip. to Alabama after this weekend,
- 2:47Speaker 2: and kickoff for that game has been set at 2.30
- 2:52Speaker 2: on ABC. Again, kickoff against the Citadel is on SEC Plus,
- 3:00Speaker 2: and that is noon on Saturday. 11 a.m. games are
- 3:06Speaker 2: Florida at Texas and Mississippi State at LSU. The 2.30 a.b.c.
- 3:11Speaker 2: game is Alabama at Tennessee. There will be a 2.30 e.s.p.n. game,
- 3:17Speaker 2: Auburn at Georgia, a 2.30 s.e.c.
- 3:20Speaker 5: Network.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I'm not making any of this up. Missouri at Ole Miss.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And then the night game, the one we've all been
- 3:28Speaker 2: waiting for, Arkansas at Vanderbilt. And that will be followed
- 3:34Speaker 2: on the SEC Network by Kentucky and Oklahoma. Texas coach
- 3:38Speaker 2: Steve Sarkeesian defended quarterback Arch Manning today, suggesting the famous
- 3:44Speaker 2: name on his back is leading to greater scrutiny. Manning
- 3:50Speaker 2: threw two costly interceptions in the fourth quarter of the
- 3:53Speaker 2: Longhorns' 27-24 upset loss to Oklahoma Saturday in Dallas.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I think if you took the name.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Off the back of his jersey and you said, here's
- 4:03Speaker 2: Joe Smith playing quarterback at the University of Texas, and
- 4:07Speaker 2: here's a guy who's beaten four top 10 ranked teams
- 4:11Speaker 2: in his last 13 starts, we'd be praising the guy.
- 4:16Speaker 2: But the expectations are high for him, and he understands that.
- 4:20Speaker 2: The expectations are high for all of us, so we've
- 4:23Speaker 2: got to put our nose back to the grind and
- 4:27Speaker 2: get started.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Back to work. Again, Texas will host Florida on Saturday.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Bad news for UCLA and head coach Bob Chesney. Just
- 4:39Speaker 2: as the Bruins were getting recognition and up to number
- 4:43Speaker 2: 12 in the country after winning at Oregon, we get
- 4:47Speaker 2: word that their quarterback, Nico Imai-Lava, is expected to miss
- 4:54Speaker 2: the remainder of the season with a knee injury. That
- 4:58Speaker 2: is according to CBS Sports. Pete Thamel says Iyama Oliva
- 5:05Speaker 2: is out indefinitely with the knee injury. He has completed
- 5:09Speaker 2: 62% of his passes, four touchdowns, four interceptions. He hasn't
- 5:15Speaker 2: been great, but... Again, the Bruins are 5-0. According to
- 5:22Speaker 2: the AP poll out yesterday, Georgia's new number one, Notre
- 5:28Speaker 2: Dame up to two, Miami three, Ohio State four, Indiana five.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Those two teams played, by the way, Saturday. Then Alabama
- 5:39Speaker 2: at 6. Texas falls to 7. BYU stays at 8.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Ole Miss stays at 9. Tech at 10. Utah, UCLA,
- 5:51Speaker 2: Missouri at 13. Tennessee at 14. Kentucky at 15. They
- 5:58Speaker 2: went from unrated to number 15, by the way, after
- 6:00Speaker 2: knocking off LSU.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Mississippi State is 16th. Oklahoma State, 18. Houston, up to 20.
- 6:08Speaker 1: LSU falls from 12 to 22. Nope, from 10 to 22.
- 6:10Speaker 1: They fall 12 spots. SMU is in at number 24.
- 6:12Speaker 1: And Northwestern, newly ranked at 4-1. They're sitting at number 25.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I mentioned Major League Baseball last night. The Brewers at
- 6:35Speaker 2: home got the Dodgers 2-1 the final to take a
- 6:42Speaker 2: one game to none lead. Today it's Yamamoto against Henderson.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Logan Henderson is 8-0 at home this year. The Guardians
- 6:54Speaker 2: and the Rays begin American League playoffs tonight. That game
- 7:02Speaker 2: starts at 7 o'clock. Griffin against Rasmussen. And the Rays
- 7:10Speaker 2: are 55-26 under that horrible dome stadium that they have. But, hey,
- 7:18Speaker 2: it works for them. You know what I'm saying? So
- 7:24Speaker 2: there you go. Baseball underway. Anybody paying attention?
- 7:28Speaker 1: Probably not.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Because there's nobody around here that's in the playoffs.
- 7:33Speaker 1: And we're in the middle of college football.
- 7:36Speaker 2: So I will tell you that tomorrow we're going to
- 7:42Speaker 2: do some college football previewing for the upcoming weekend.
- 7:48Speaker 1: And hear from some of the coaches.
- 7:50Speaker 2: The basketball media days will be underway. And if timing
- 7:58Speaker 2: works out, we'll hear from Bucky. And we'll do some
- 8:04Speaker 2: of that. We have a high school report as well
- 8:07Speaker 2: tomorrow on the program. So we've got that going on
- 8:11Speaker 2: for us, which is nice.
- 8:14Speaker 6: Okay.
- 8:16Speaker 1: This game is underway.
- 8:19Speaker 2: The Dodgers already have a runner on second. You don't
- 8:21Speaker 2: want to make the Dodgers mad. That would be bad.
- 8:24Speaker 2: You just want to let them kind of, you know,
- 8:27Speaker 2: Otani's not hitting. Smith's not hitting. I mean, they're not,
- 8:36Speaker 2: none of the Dodgers are hitting great, but they're still
- 8:41Speaker 2: the favorites in my mind.
- 8:44Speaker 1: They probably need to, well, they don't need to win today,
- 8:46Speaker 1: but it'd probably be good for them to win today.
- 8:49Speaker 1: They're one to none down.
- 8:51Speaker 2: And those people in Milwaukee are pretty excited because, you know,
- 8:55Speaker 2: they've been knocking on the door a while. They feel like,
- 8:58Speaker 2: in the words of the late, great Bum Phillips, they're
- 9:01Speaker 2: ready to kick in the door.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Okay, this portion of the program is brought to you
- 9:06Speaker 1: by ANCO Insurance.

- 9:31Speaker 7: behind us, more resources, more solutions, still your team. Anco Insurance,
- 9:35Speaker 7: a Hub International company, so you're ready for tomorrow.
- 9:38Speaker 8: 30 minutes after the clock sits zero at Kyle Field

- 9:48Speaker 8: take your phone calls for two hours. Carney's Pub, the

- 9:59Speaker 8: the best of the Brazos Valley. It's the Carney's Pub
- 10:03Speaker 8: Call-In Show, brought to you by techsags.com, here on the
- 10:06Speaker 8: Zone 1150 AM and 93.7 FM.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Give me a bottle of your very best. It didn't
- 10:18Speaker 1: take the Dodgers long.
- 10:19Speaker 9: First inning, sack fly.
- 10:23Speaker 3: They're up one to nothing in Milwaukee.
- 10:31Speaker 1: We're keeping an eye on that one for you.
- 10:46Speaker 2: We have got the Writers' Roundtable in the second hour.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I think what I'm going to do is we're going
- 10:54Speaker 2: to replay the first part of Mike Elko's media date
- 11:02Speaker 2: this afternoon. We carried that live at 1.30 here on
- 11:07Speaker 2: The Zone. We do that every Monday. And rather than
- 11:12Speaker 2: me quote what he had to say, We will let
- 11:15Speaker 2: him say it, and then we'll come back and visit
- 11:18Speaker 2: about that a little bit.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Here is Mike Elko today.
- 11:21Speaker 10: Yeah, obviously I think the thoughts on the game were
- 11:25Speaker 10: summed up afterwards. I think the film reflected it. I
- 11:28Speaker 10: thought offensively we just weren't really creating enough to create
- 11:33Speaker 10: any kind of momentum, any kind of flow in the game.
- 11:36Speaker 10: I thought the failures were at every level. I thought
- 11:38Speaker 10: we struggled up front handling them. We couldn't get the
- 11:41Speaker 10: run game established. And we couldn't get anything going in
- 11:45Speaker 10: the throw game. And so obviously it's a go back
- 11:48Speaker 10: to the drawing board moment again. And again, I know
- 11:51Speaker 10: words are what they are, but we've got to find
- 11:53Speaker 10: ways to get more creative and we've got to find ways.
- 11:56Speaker 5: To be able to move the ball efficiently.
- 11:58Speaker 10: Defensively, I thought we held up for a large chunk
- 12:02Speaker 10: of the game, playing at a level that could have
- 12:05Speaker 10: won us the game. But then I think some breakdowns
- 12:08Speaker 10: in the second half ultimately allowed the game to get
- 12:10Speaker 10: out of hand and We're just not built to play
- 12:12Speaker 10: from behind right now.
- 12:14Speaker 5: We've got to turn the page. We've got to move forward.
- 12:17Speaker 10: Like I told the team this morning, we're in a
- 12:19Speaker 10: situation where we have to improve and we have to
- 12:21Speaker 10: get better. I think there's a tremendous amount of fight
- 12:24Speaker 10: in our building, in our coaching staff, and in our
- 12:26Speaker 10: players to do that, but we've got to go do it.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Without doing it, words are just words.
- 12:33Speaker 10: We've got to go to work. We've got to have
- 12:34Speaker 10: a great week of preparation. We've got to find a
- 12:37Speaker 10: way to put a better product on the field on Saturday.
- 12:41Speaker 10: And then just to address the post-game conversation again, you know,
- 12:47Speaker 10: I think in the heat of the moment, I think
- 12:49Speaker 10: I answered a question in a way that I certainly regret.
- 12:52Speaker 10: I think everybody knows I have a tremendous relationship with Billy.
- 12:56Speaker 10: I appreciate Billy. I appreciate him being here today. There's
- 13:00Speaker 10: nothing about Billy and I that have ever been off
- 13:02Speaker 10: since 2018. I think everybody knows I appreciate our fan base.
- 13:07Speaker 10: and everything that they're about and everything that they mean
- 13:09Speaker 10: to Texas A & M. And, you know, outside of that,
- 13:13Speaker 10: I'll leave it alone. And so I just, I regret,
- 13:16Speaker 10: I regret the way it was taken. I regret the
- 13:18Speaker 10: way it came out. I regret the way it ran.
- 13:21Speaker 10: And so that certainly was never my intention. And certainly
- 13:25Speaker 10: throughout the course of that interview, at no point ever
- 13:27Speaker 10: did I lend any blame to anything other than myself
- 13:31Speaker 10: i am the reason why this team is struggling i
- 13:33Speaker 10: have owned that since this has started i continue to
- 13:36Speaker 10: own that it's my job to figure out how to
- 13:38Speaker 10: get it better so from there we'll open up to.
- 13:40Speaker 9: Questions we'll go to the right second row david.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Coach ucker are we at a i know you've made
- 13:44Speaker 3: changes each week right and you tinker with things but
- 13:47Speaker 3: are we at a point in the season you have
- 13:49Speaker 3: to make major changes offensively.
- 13:51Speaker 10: Yeah i think everything has to be on the table
- 13:55Speaker 10: for sure um I think we're at that point for sure.
- 13:58Speaker 5: I just think.
- 14:01Speaker 10: It's hard to make revolutionary changes in our current situation
- 14:06Speaker 10: because you have to allow the kids an opportunity to
- 14:10Speaker 10: have success, and massive shifts are going to create execution issues.
- 14:15Speaker 10: And so we have to continue to explore every option,
- 14:20Speaker 10: whether that's personnel, whether that's philosophy, whether that's tempo, whether
- 14:24Speaker 10: that's pace, whether, like, Everything has to be on the table,
- 14:28Speaker 10: and it has been.
- 14:28Speaker 5: That's not new.
- 14:30Speaker 10: But everything has to be on the table, and we've
- 14:32Speaker 10: got to just try to identify what we can do
- 14:36Speaker 10: to be successful.
- 14:38Speaker 11: What specifically has improved defensively these last couple of weeks,
- 14:41Speaker 11: and where would you like to still see it go?
- 14:43Speaker 10: Yeah, I think we, obviously coming out of the Kentucky game,
- 14:48Speaker 10: made a concerted effort to try to streamline, allow our
- 14:51Speaker 10: kids an opportunity to play fast. Again, you don't know
- 14:55Speaker 10: you have it wrong until you have it wrong, and
- 14:57Speaker 10: that's coaching, I think, to some degree. I think our
- 15:01Speaker 10: kids have bought into the ownership on that. And now
- 15:05Speaker 10: I think it's just that what I told them is
- 15:07Speaker 10: it's consistency. I think it's the ability to be repetitively good.
- 15:12Speaker 10: And so, you know, there's times where we can call
- 15:14Speaker 10: a defense against a play and it looks like it
- 15:17Speaker 10: should and it's really good. And there's just a handful
- 15:20Speaker 10: of times still where that's not the case. And those
- 15:23Speaker 10: things are the things that cause us problems. And when
- 15:26Speaker 10: you get into the SEC, and this is how we
- 15:29Speaker 10: talk about it, you know, Like, Caden Lee is going
- 15:32Speaker 10: to get open at some point, and they're going to
- 15:33Speaker 10: deliver a good ball, and that's going to result in
- 15:35Speaker 10: an explosive play, and.
- 15:36Speaker 5: That's how football works.
- 15:39Speaker 10: We can't allow them to hand a ball off into
- 15:41Speaker 10: a heavy box and not make the tackle.
- 15:44Speaker 5: Or, you know, not have our.
- 15:46Speaker 10: Eyes in the right place and not cover.
- 15:48Speaker 5: You know what I mean? Like, those are the things
- 15:50Speaker 5: that when you give people.
- 15:51Speaker 10: That on top of the plays that talented people make,
- 15:55Speaker 10: that's probably where our shortcomings are right now on defense.
- 15:59Speaker 9: We'll stay to the right. First row, Travis.
- 16:01Speaker 12: Hey, Mike, you mentioned after the game giving up some
- 16:03Speaker 12: play calling to be a more CEO role. What does
- 16:05Speaker 12: that kind of look like? Are you still involved in
- 16:07Speaker 12: some downs? What's kind of the breakdown of what that
- 16:09Speaker 12: looks like now?
- 16:10Speaker 5: No, Lyle's calling the games.
- 16:12Speaker 10: Yeah, I think that was an important step just so
- 16:16Speaker 10: that I could have the freedom to be involved in everything.
- 16:21Speaker 5: And I just think that was.
- 16:24Speaker 10: Probably to the detriment of us for a couple weeks, LSU, Kentucky.
- 16:29Speaker 10: trying to do too many things and probably not doing
- 16:32Speaker 10: any of them well, to be honest.
- 16:34Speaker 12: You've mentioned in the past one of your players to
- 16:37Speaker 12: block out the noise and not listen to us. Do
- 16:39Speaker 12: you feel like you're effective at blocking out the noise?
- 16:41Speaker 10: Am I?
- 16:42Speaker 5: Yes, I think I'm very effective with it.
- 16:44Speaker 9: We'll go all the way back to Chip.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Mike, what's the biggest challenge for you and your staff
- 16:53Speaker 2: right now in reversing the course?
- 16:55Speaker 1: Is it physical, or is it mental and emotional, or
- 16:58Speaker 1: is it all of the above?
- 16:59Speaker 10: No, I think it's a touch physical for sure, but
- 17:03Speaker 10: I think mental and emotional is playing a major role
- 17:05Speaker 10: in it.
- 17:06Speaker 5: I think it's, you know, kids... what I see, what
- 17:14Speaker 5: I see is kids trying and not getting results.
- 17:18Speaker 10: And, um, there's a lot that goes into that, but
- 17:21Speaker 10: that to me is always on some level, mental and
- 17:25Speaker 10: psychological ability to perform under pressure and perform in the moment.
- 17:29Speaker 10: And so, um, you know, what we're getting on Saturdays
- 17:32Speaker 10: is not what we got in fall camp. It's not
- 17:35Speaker 10: what we're getting through the week in practice. It's, it's not,
- 17:38Speaker 10: it's just not translating. And so, um, that to me
- 17:43Speaker 10: is a mental issue that we've got.
- 17:44Speaker 5: To try to get resolved.
- 17:47Speaker 9: We'll go over to the left, third row, Matthew.
- 17:49Speaker 13: Howdy, Coach.
- 17:50Speaker 14: After scoring just six points in each of your last
- 17:52Speaker 14: two road games, what have you identified as the biggest
- 17:54Speaker 14: issue with the offense, and what do you think needs
- 17:56Speaker 14: to change before Saturday?
- 17:58Speaker 10: I think that's kind of how I opened up the presser.
- 18:01Speaker 10: I think we've got issues at every level. I think
- 18:04Speaker 10: we've got to go to the drawing board and try
- 18:06Speaker 10: to figure out a way– to stay ahead of the chains.
- 18:11Speaker 10: I think that, again, is with who we are and
- 18:13Speaker 10: where we are right now, we're not generating explosive plays,
- 18:16Speaker 10: and so we have to stay ahead of the chains.
- 18:19Speaker 10: And we just weren't able to do that consistently enough.
- 18:22Speaker 10: We haven't been able to do that consistently enough really
- 18:24Speaker 10: in any game, but I think it showed up more
- 18:26Speaker 10: so in the two road games.
- 18:29Speaker 9: We'll go back over to the right third row, Richard.
- 18:31Speaker 15: Coach, what seems to be the issues in the third
- 18:35Speaker 15: quarter specifically, and how do you clean up those errors
- 18:37Speaker 15: coming out of halftime?
- 18:38Speaker 10: Um, don't know, you know, obviously you need to need
- 18:41Speaker 10: to explore it. Um, talk to the kids about it
- 18:44Speaker 10: on defense today. I think, um, there's been an energy
- 18:48Speaker 10: drop coming out of halftime.
- 18:50Speaker 5: I don't know if that's related to game score. I
- 18:53Speaker 5: don't know if that's related.
- 18:54Speaker 10: To belief confidence. Uh, I don't know if it's really,
- 18:59Speaker 10: you know, we've changed up our rhythm. We've come out earlier.
- 19:02Speaker 10: We've come out to give them more time to get
- 19:04Speaker 10: warmed up. Like we're, we've done the you know, preparational
- 19:08Speaker 10: things that you can do to try to tweak some
- 19:10Speaker 10: of that stuff.
- 19:12Speaker 5: You know, and I think, you know, we settled a.
- 19:15Speaker 10: Little bit more Saturday than we have in previous third quarters,
- 19:18Speaker 10: but it's certainly been a bad quarter for us. And
- 19:21Speaker 10: it's not a fatigue thing because we've been really good.
- 19:23Speaker 5: In the fourth. We just, we've struggled coming out of
- 19:25Speaker 5: the locker room.
- 19:27Speaker 9: We'll go over to the left, Alex, second row.
- 19:29Speaker 14: Talking with Brandon Davis-Swain tomorrow, I'm just curious what you've
- 19:32Speaker 14: seen from him leading up to him getting a start
- 19:35Speaker 14: on Saturday and just kind of how you've seen him
- 19:37Speaker 14: play this season.
- 19:38Speaker 10: Yeah, I think he was really banged up, had an
- 19:41Speaker 10: injury coming into camp, and so it was really, really limited.
- 19:44Speaker 5: We didn't know what we'd really be able to get
- 19:45Speaker 5: from him.
- 19:47Speaker 10: Fortunately, we were able to get him healthy, and I
- 19:49Speaker 10: think as he's gotten healthy, I think he's just kind
- 19:52Speaker 10: of become a player that we can lean on and
- 19:56Speaker 10: count on, and so played really, really well on Saturday.
- 19:59Speaker 10: Given the circumstances, I thought he was one of the
- 20:01Speaker 10: positive highlights, and so did a nice job anchoring in
- 20:04Speaker 10: the middle, and so that's what we got.
- 20:07Speaker 14: And then y'all moved Jamarian back to kick returner and
- 20:09Speaker 14: busted the big one in that game. Just, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 14: what all went into the move to move him there?
- 20:13Speaker 14: I realize he had been banged up, but just what
- 20:15Speaker 14: went into the move and why y'all like him in
- 20:17Speaker 14: that spot?
- 20:17Speaker 5: Yeah, he's been our key.
- 20:21Speaker 10: I've never been that ravaged at kick returner in such
- 20:24Speaker 10: a short span of time. And so it was Terry, Ashton,
- 20:27Speaker 10: and Jamarian were the three guys that we kind of
- 20:30Speaker 10: came into the year with. at kick returner and in
- 20:33Speaker 10: the span of, you know, about three quarters, all three
- 20:35Speaker 10: of them were done for a while. And so, um,
- 20:38Speaker 10: you know, Ruben was a guy that we felt comfortable
- 20:40Speaker 10: catching the ball back there and is a good returner,
- 20:42Speaker 10: but we didn't want to risk him in that role.
- 20:45Speaker 10: And so, um, he was kind of back there for
- 20:47Speaker 10: our catching for a little while. And now that we
- 20:49Speaker 10: have Ashton back and Jamarian back, those two guys have
- 20:52Speaker 10: kind of gotten more involved in the return game as
- 20:54Speaker 10: a Jamarian's a kid who we have a lot of confidence.
- 20:56Speaker 10: He's got that kind of electric ability and, obviously had
- 20:59Speaker 10: the big one to try to create some momentum for us.
- 21:01Speaker 5: We've got to continue to do that.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Okay, that's part of what Mike Elko had to say
- 21:06Speaker 2: earlier today. He created a firestorm, obviously, after the game
- 21:13Speaker 2: on Saturday, taking on– oh, wait, do we have.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Oh, let's go then. Let's do this.
- 21:24Speaker 16: Conor.
- 21:24Speaker 5: Conor.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Friday's fearless football forecast contest brought to you.
- 21:34Speaker 1: All right, we got stuff going everywhere.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Brought to you by Chad Jones Law and Zwerneman Flooring.
- 21:45Speaker 1: We're going to go out to the Players Fund Center
- 21:47Speaker 1: phone line. Is this Jenny?
- 21:48Speaker 3: It sure is.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Jenny, what in the world? You won this week.
- 21:56Speaker 4: I can't believe it, you know? I mean, but I'm
- 21:59Speaker 4: getting better every week, so I guess I can kind
- 22:02Speaker 4: of believe it.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Well, then I need to listen to you. I'm getting
- 22:05Speaker 2: worse every week. This was my worst week yet. How
- 22:11Speaker 2: did you do it, Jenny? What's the secret?
- 22:14Speaker 4: Well, I just went with my gut. On a couple
- 22:18Speaker 4: of picks, I don't like some of the coaches, so
- 22:20Speaker 4: I went against those coaches. And, um, Then I also
- 22:25Speaker 4: kind of peeked over my husband's shoulder, and I went
- 22:29Speaker 4: opposite of him on some of them. That way, because
- 22:33Speaker 4: my whole goal is to mainly just whoop his butt.
- 22:37Speaker 1: And are you doing that?
- 22:40Speaker 4: No, not yet. But after this week, I think I'm
- 22:43Speaker 4: getting closer.
- 22:44Speaker 2: So do you mind my asking the two coaches you
- 22:47Speaker 2: didn't like that you picked against because they were on
- 22:49Speaker 2: the sidelines?
- 22:52Speaker 4: I didn't like the– well, I don't like the– I
- 22:58Speaker 4: don't really want to say because one of them is local.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Okay.
- 23:02Speaker 4: But it's not really the head coach. It's more of
- 23:05Speaker 4: the officer coordinator.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Okay.
- 23:08Speaker 4: The other one was the Alabama.
- 23:12Speaker 17: Yes.
- 23:13Speaker 4: The other coach.
- 23:14Speaker 1: So bad game. So you picked Georgia to beat Alabama.
- 23:17Speaker 18: I did.
- 23:18Speaker 2: That wasn't a huge stretch, but I picked Alabama. That
- 23:21Speaker 2: killed me. Your other loss was Texas-Oklahoma. They were heavily favored.
- 23:27Speaker 2: They lost.
- 23:28Speaker 17: I know.
- 23:29Speaker 4: I was actually rooting for the Longhorns, which doesn't really
- 23:32Speaker 4: happen in our house, but I was.
- 23:34Speaker 18: Rooting for them.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, because you picked them. I get it. Yeah.
- 23:38Speaker 2: And then you lost UCLA-Oregon, and I think everybody lost UCLA-Oregon.
- 23:43Speaker 4: Yes.
- 23:44Speaker 10: Yes.
- 23:44Speaker 4: And that was, that's what I really thought about. I
- 23:47Speaker 4: almost should have went with my gut with the LA,
- 23:52Speaker 4: but you know.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Well, you know what?
- 23:54Speaker 2: It was, it was good enough. Now, have you already
- 23:56Speaker 2: made your picks for this week? When do you usually
- 23:59Speaker 2: make your picks?
- 24:00Speaker 4: I'll, I'll make them as soon as we get off
- 24:02Speaker 4: the phone and it doesn't take me long. I usually
- 24:05Speaker 4: have it done in about five minutes.
- 24:06Speaker 5: Okay.
- 24:07Speaker 2: See, this is my problem, Jenny. I cogitate Ray too
- 24:11Speaker 2: much on these things. It's, I need to take less time, obviously.
- 24:16Speaker 4: Sometimes I pick if I don't like their uniforms, I
- 24:20Speaker 4: may go again.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I love that. See, this is my problem here.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I want to say I know too much, but obviously
- 24:30Speaker 2: I don't know too much or I'd be in first place. Okay, Jenny,
- 24:35Speaker 2: I've got a couple of tickets for you and your
- 24:37Speaker 2: husband or whoever you want.
- 24:39Speaker 1: To take to the Renaissance Festival.
- 24:42Speaker 18: Nice.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yes, ma'am. I'm going to put you on hold.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Connor will get your information, tell you how to claim
- 24:48Speaker 2: those tickets, and good luck the rest of the season.
- 24:52Speaker 4: Okay. I'll be looking down and watching from above you
- 24:56Speaker 4: on my pick.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Thanks, Jenny. Bye-bye. All right.
- 25:02Speaker 2: That's Jenny, and she is this week's winner. She won
- 25:08Speaker 2: the tiebreaker, Georgia-Alabama. And she gets a couple of Renaissance festivals.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Let's get the music going again.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Can we stand?
- 25:17Speaker 2: Because we've got week seven picks already up for your
- 25:22Speaker 2: perusal between now and five o'clock on Friday. Jenny's about
- 25:27Speaker 2: to make hers. Maybe you ought to call her and
- 25:28Speaker 2: see how she's picking. Maybe I should call her. Ohio State, Indiana.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Brenham Rudder. College Station, Hendrickson.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Florida, Texas. Missouri Ole Miss. Notre Dame BYU. Kansas. Kansas State.
- 25:51Speaker 1: UNLV Air Force.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Texans and the Jaguars.
- 25:59Speaker 1: The Cowboys and the Packers.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Those 10 games we are picking this week. You can
- 26:08Speaker 2: go online at chiphower.com at the contest page. Win valuable
- 26:14Speaker 2: weekly prizes like Red Fest tickets or places to eat
- 26:18Speaker 2: or other good stuff. Somebody's going to get their name
- 26:22Speaker 2: engraved on the cup. Maybe it'll be Jenny. We've had
- 26:27Speaker 2: female winner before or two, so it wouldn't be the first.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest, America's Most Loved Football Pickup Contest.
- 26:37Speaker 1: A division of Sports Talk.
- 26:39Speaker 2: It's presented by Zwerdemann Flooring and Chad Jones Law.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Man, I would just suck this week.
- 26:51Speaker 2: And I was getting so close, I was inching back
- 26:54Speaker 2: toward the lead. Who'd pick UCLA to beat Oregon, I
- 27:05Speaker 2: ask you? That was just a terrible week of games.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Remember the week before? Everybody was 10-0 and 9-1. I said,
- 27:15Speaker 2: what'd I say? That I think this week is going.
- 27:18Speaker 1: To be a little harder. And it is. I think
- 27:22Speaker 1: this week's a little hard. Personally. I think it's a
- 27:27Speaker 1: little difficult. So we'll see. We'll see how Jenny does.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Killing me!
- 27:35Speaker 10: Uh.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Before we talked to Jenny, I was in the process
- 27:41Speaker 2: of talking about Coach Elko's comments about Billy Sespul.
- 27:47Speaker 6: And I.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Don't know who is, because Travis asked the question, how, basically,
- 27:57Speaker 2: how good are you? How effective are you at putting
- 28:01Speaker 2: all of the noise out of your mind? And he said,
- 28:05Speaker 2: I'm good. I think I'm good. And I'm going, well,
- 28:07Speaker 2: if you're putting all the noise out of your mind,
- 28:10Speaker 2: why are you commenting on message boards? And who told
- 28:16Speaker 2: the coach, as he's walking to the podium after losing
- 28:20Speaker 2: an SEC game badly, what the reactions of the message
- 28:25Speaker 2: boards are? Did he ask that question? I mean, he
- 28:30Speaker 2: didn't have a lot of time to check them out.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Whoever did that I mean, was this something that's been
- 28:39Speaker 2: building throughout the week?
- 28:41Speaker 1: And he knew what.
- 28:43Speaker 2: The message boards, how they were going to react with another,
- 28:49Speaker 2: you know, lopsided loss? I have so many questions there.
- 28:53Speaker 2: I probably should have. Now that I, now I have questions.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Where were you four hours ago when you had the guy.
- 29:01Speaker 20: There, Chip?
- 29:02Speaker 1: I know that's what you're asking.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I've got no excuse for that. But Seriously, why that? Look,
- 29:13Speaker 2: obviously frustrated, like everyone, right? Only his name's on the door.
- 29:19Speaker 2: If you think you're frustrated, you're not the one, you know,
- 29:23Speaker 2: grinding 20 hours a day to try to get this
- 29:26Speaker 2: thing right.
- 29:27Speaker 1: He is frustrated.
- 29:29Speaker 2: And by his own admission, frankly, a guy who's very
- 29:35Speaker 2: confident in what he does, Kind of out of answers
- 29:39Speaker 2: right now.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Um, told us, as you heard, everything is on the.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Table, exploring all options, personnel, tempo, style, um, And there
- 29:58Speaker 2: have been changes made in both lines of scrimmage. And frankly,
- 30:02Speaker 2: the defense, I thought, played pretty well on Saturday. I
- 30:07Speaker 2: thought the defense played pretty well. They've got to have
- 30:12Speaker 2: help from the offense. That's just how that stuff works.
- 30:17Speaker 2: They've got to have some help. It's one-to-one, Brewers and Dodgers.
- 30:26Speaker 2: We're going to hear from Brewers manager Pat Murphy by
- 30:30Speaker 2: the miracle of radio because Pat Murphy is sitting in
- 30:33Speaker 2: the dugout in Milwaukee managing a game right now. But
- 30:38Speaker 2: we're going to hear from him here in just a moment.

- 33:56Speaker 6: It is a Monday edition.
- 33:57Speaker 1: The Writer's Roundtable.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Coming your way here in about 30 minutes, so you'll
- 34:03Speaker 2: want to stay tuned for Overreaction Monday.
- 34:22Speaker 1: 1-1 Dodgers and Brewers.
- 34:25Speaker 2: It's in the top of the second inning right now
- 34:28Speaker 2: in Milwaukee. Last night, the Brewers won the opener in
- 34:32Speaker 2: a tight pitching duel. Here is Brewers manager Pat Murphy.
- 34:40Speaker 13: Start JP up at the top.
- 34:47Speaker 5: Murph, congratulations.
- 34:48Speaker 15: When you think about a defensive effort like the one
- 34:51Speaker 15: you had tonight with all the double plays, are you
- 34:53Speaker 15: a believer that great defense like that can be contagious
- 34:57Speaker 15: in a good way?
- 34:58Speaker 23: Yeah, I mean, you can't get to this point without
- 35:00Speaker 23: great defense. You really can't. And we haven't turned as
- 35:03Speaker 23: many double plays in the postseason as you'd like, but
- 35:07Speaker 23: tonight it was key. And, you know, Miz, say what
- 35:10Speaker 23: you want. You didn't see 105, whatever, but, you know,
- 35:15Speaker 23: whatever he got in the jam, you know, he, he
- 35:18Speaker 23: got better, you know, and he gave us four and
- 35:20Speaker 23: a third and our bullpen continues to be really special.
- 35:24Speaker 6: And if you could see JP, uh, Bryce Terang, who.
- 35:29Speaker 23: Had an incredible defensive game, like first play of the game,
- 35:31Speaker 23: and then part of turning two tough double plays, if
- 35:35Speaker 23: you could see how many hours he's put in the
- 35:37Speaker 23: cage in the last two days, I mean, that's all
- 35:40Speaker 23: pure and simple.
- 35:41Speaker 6: Like he's been in there above and beyond. You guys
- 35:43Speaker 6: were in there. Remember when Bryce was in there late
- 35:45Speaker 6: at night?
- 35:46Speaker 23: Um, And, you know, it's just great to see him
- 35:51Speaker 23: come back and have an offensive game like that and
- 35:53Speaker 23: a defensive game like that.
- 35:54Speaker 15: And along those lines, just that swing against a fastball
- 35:58Speaker 15: that's on the inner rail, to be able to put
- 36:01Speaker 15: that where he did, how do you describe the work?
- 36:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, that's what he was working on, you know, exactly.
- 36:07Speaker 23: Instead of his hands dropping and cutting across to just
- 36:11Speaker 23: get straight to the baseball. And I was– we were talking,
- 36:15Speaker 23: hitting coaches, we were talking like sometimes– facing a lefty
- 36:19Speaker 23: gets you more locked in than anything because you know
- 36:21Speaker 23: you got to stay tight and you got to stay
- 36:22Speaker 23: square but that was sensational performance uh can't you can't
- 36:28Speaker 23: underestimate what Contreras does for us behind the dish and
- 36:31Speaker 23: game he called and some of his abs even in
- 36:33Speaker 23: the ninth that abs was you know just spot on
- 36:40Speaker 23: but yeah there was some you know and to see
- 36:42Speaker 23: uh Lara come through you know the big base hit
- 36:45Speaker 23: it a big time and Cooper Pratt at whatever years
- 36:48Speaker 23: old he is, getting the sack punt down in a
- 36:50Speaker 23: big situation. Yeah, I'm just proud of our guys. And again,
- 36:54Speaker 23: Ashby and Uribe and D.L. Hall and the job they
- 36:58Speaker 23: did and McGill.
- 37:00Speaker 6: Just really proud of the guys. Let's go to Jack
- 37:03Speaker 6: on the far left.
- 37:04Speaker 11: Scoogle had you guys expanding the zone a lot of
- 37:06Speaker 11: those first three innings. What kind of shift did you
- 37:09Speaker 11: see in the at-bats that second time through against him
- 37:13Speaker 11: that allowed you guys to break through?
- 37:14Speaker 23: Yeah, you know, every pitcher is different, but I mean,
- 37:19Speaker 23: this guy was incredible today. He was pounding the fastball
- 37:22Speaker 23: into righties. He was, he was really more effective against
- 37:25Speaker 23: righties than lefties. But when the leadoff guy gets on sometimes, um,
- 37:31Speaker 23: by walking, he's a threat to steal. Sometimes that can
- 37:33Speaker 23: alter the way the guy goes about it. So I thought, um,
- 37:38Speaker 23: that little getting a guy in scoring position, uh, he
- 37:42Speaker 23: tried to get ahead with a change up to, to
- 37:44Speaker 23: Laura left it where he didn't want to.
- 37:46Speaker 6: And, Other than that, he was dominant. He was dominant.
- 37:51Speaker 23: The swing by Terang and the one pitch he left
- 37:53Speaker 23: up to Lara, he was pretty dominant. Vaughn had a
- 37:56Speaker 23: good swing, I guess, in the first inning. I think
- 37:58Speaker 23: that was a fastball for the inner half. But he
- 38:02Speaker 23: was really special.
- 38:05Speaker 6: Two in the third row in the middle.
- 38:08Speaker 24: Murph, what did you make of Mizorowski tonight, just the
- 38:11Speaker 24: stuff that he was able to have for this one?
- 38:13Speaker 23: Yeah, I thought he was great. He was pitching in
- 38:15Speaker 23: the pitching a series like this. His innings are up
- 38:19Speaker 23: to almost 190 this year. That's way over what he's
- 38:26Speaker 23: ever done. The kid's bound to be a little bit tired.
- 38:32Speaker 23: You can't expect him to understand what this is all about.
- 38:37Speaker 23: Going this far and having to pitch this much this
- 38:40Speaker 23: year with the pressure he's had on him.
- 38:42Speaker 6: He gave us 13 outs. I thought he was He
- 38:48Speaker 6: was really good. His stuff wasn't great. No, it wasn't,
- 38:51Speaker 6: but it's still pretty darn good. Stay up there on
- 38:56Speaker 6: the third row.
- 38:57Speaker 18: Murph, with Uribe, you haven't necessarily been using him as
- 39:01Speaker 18: strictly an eighth inning, seventh inning guy, but specifically against
- 39:05Speaker 18: the best of the best, both in the Padres series
- 39:08Speaker 18: and here against the Dodgers. Was that a conscious decision
- 39:11Speaker 18: you made going into the playoffs or just how the
- 39:12Speaker 18: games kind.
- 39:13Speaker 5: Of rolled out?
- 39:14Speaker 6: Well, I've got to be honest with you, most of
- 39:16Speaker 6: the decisions I make, not all, Are conscious. You know
- 39:20Speaker 6: what I mean? I am conscious when.
- 39:21Speaker 11: I make them.
- 39:25Speaker 6: A couple, as you might expect, I make unconsciously. No,
- 39:28Speaker 6: of course not.
- 39:30Speaker 23: Uribe, he's a monster. He's a guy you want out
- 39:34Speaker 23: there in every big situation. The great thing is he
- 39:38Speaker 23: wants to be out there in every.
- 39:40Speaker 6: Big situation. He may not be conscious, but he is
- 39:44Speaker 6: definitely competing. Step in the third row.
- 39:50Speaker 2: Congratulations.
- 39:52Speaker 16: Did you say anything to Miz after a rough second
- 39:56Speaker 16: inning to.
- 39:57Speaker 5: Help him keep going?
- 39:58Speaker 16: Did you say anything to Miz after a rough second
- 40:01Speaker 16: inning to help him keep going strong because he came
- 40:04Speaker 16: back out there in the green?
- 40:06Speaker 6: We have a stick, a paddle.
- 40:08Speaker 23: I don't know if your parents use that, but we
- 40:10Speaker 23: have a paddle we keep in the back room there
- 40:12Speaker 23: and we just paddle him. I think I struck him
- 40:18Speaker 23: seven or eight times, but then after that He seemed
- 40:21Speaker 23: to get the message.
- 40:26Speaker 6: Bradford, first row. Tough act to follow.
- 40:31Speaker 18: The way you managed the inning where you got the
- 40:34Speaker 18: go-ahead run using Pratt to bunt, setting up Lara against
- 40:39Speaker 18: one of the best pitchers in the game, for a national.
- 40:41Speaker 12: Audience, a lot of people are probably looking at who.
- 40:44Speaker 18: Is this rookie that he's setting this up for, but
- 40:47Speaker 18: what does that just say about the confidence you have
- 40:48Speaker 18: in Lara?
- 40:50Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, Larry doesn't.
- 40:52Speaker 23: He didn't come into this thing thinking he was playing
- 40:54Speaker 23: in the big leagues this year, and he didn't come
- 40:56Speaker 23: into this thing knowing who Scuba was, you know what
- 40:58Speaker 23: I mean? So that's kind of a beautiful innocence, you know.
- 41:02Speaker 23: But he is very committed to team. He's very committed
- 41:06Speaker 23: to not letting his teammates down, and I think that's
- 41:09Speaker 23: what makes a guy special at this point. You know,
- 41:11Speaker 23: both him and Pratt are up here not knowing they
- 41:14Speaker 23: were going to be in the big leagues, you know,
- 41:16Speaker 23: and they both– are very conscientious about getting it done
- 41:19Speaker 23: the right way, and they're more concerned about not letting
- 41:24Speaker 23: their teammates down than not letting a national audience down.
- 41:29Speaker 6: Probably do one more for Murph, second row here on
- 41:31Speaker 6: the left. There he is.
- 41:35Speaker 24: Murph, you talked about the bullpen being special. Is part
- 41:38Speaker 24: of that just the way they've been able to come
- 41:39Speaker 24: in in any situation, go as many outs as you ask,
- 41:43Speaker 24: and stay in the, as you say, stay in the now?
- 41:45Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean.
- 41:48Speaker 6: D.L.
- 41:48Speaker 23: Hall has emerged as a guy that we really trust,
- 41:51Speaker 23: but the other three, Uribe, Ashby, and McGill, I don't
- 41:54Speaker 23: know how you can get more out of them. We're
- 41:57Speaker 23: squeezing everything we can, and they just get better and
- 42:01Speaker 23: more confident, and they're making pitches, and they pick each
- 42:04Speaker 23: other up.
- 42:04Speaker 6: They don't care.
- 42:05Speaker 23: They just want to get outs for the Milwaukee Brewers.
- 42:09Speaker 23: That's the beauty of it, and everything else that will
- 42:13Speaker 23: come their way will be a you know a result
- 42:16Speaker 23: of just caring so much about you know the team
- 42:20Speaker 23: and not.
- 42:21Speaker 2: That's uh pat murphy i'm not sure who the the
- 42:23Speaker 2: kid was that asked the question sitting there he murphy
- 42:29Speaker 2: had all his kids up front on the platform sitting
- 42:33Speaker 2: with him while i was answering all those questions i
- 42:36Speaker 2: don't know if that's like a kid sports reporter that
- 42:39Speaker 2: got a pass you know what i'm saying i i'd
- 42:42Speaker 2: Because there wasn't any video of that, but I loved
- 42:44Speaker 2: the answer. I hit it seven or eight times with
- 42:48Speaker 2: the paddle, and he seemed to straighten up after that.
- 42:52Speaker 2: We'll take a break. We've got the Texans report. That's
- 42:55Speaker 2: brought to you by Oscar & Sons and Citizens State Bank.

- 43:31Speaker 26: The Houston Texans picked up their first win of the
- 43:33Speaker 26: season yesterday, defeating the Tennessee Titans 26-3.
- 43:36Speaker 22: C.J.
- 43:37Speaker 26: Stroud passed for 261 yards with a touchdown while also
- 43:40Speaker 26: rushing for a touchdown. After the game, head coach D'Amico
- 43:43Speaker 26: Ryan spoke on the team's first win.
- 43:45Speaker 6: Feels good to get a win finally.
- 43:47Speaker 27: Just thankful, all glory and honor for me just goes
- 43:50Speaker 27: to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
- 43:52Speaker 5: Our faith has stayed, our God has stayed the course.
- 43:56Speaker 27: Difficult first couple weeks of the season, but proud of
- 43:58Speaker 27: the guys is how everyone kept believing, kept the faith,
- 44:00Speaker 27: and everybody kept pushing it. Today was a great example
- 44:03Speaker 27: of when we play complementary football, all three phases working together.
- 44:07Speaker 6: That's the type of team that we can be.
- 44:09Speaker 26: The Texans also made a splash in the trade market
- 44:11Speaker 26: by acquiring Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Cardinals, along with
- 44:14Speaker 26: a seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick
- 44:17Speaker 26: and a sixth-rounder. This season, Harrison is averaging just 21
- 44:20Speaker 26: yards per game. The Texans' next game is Sunday in
- 44:23Speaker 26: London against the Jaguars with the kickoff scheduled for 8.30.
- 44:26Speaker 26: With your Houston Texans report, I'm Dylan Moore.

- 46:01Speaker 8: When I hear the radar coming down, it makes me
- 46:07Speaker 8: sad and blue.
- 46:11Speaker 1: I've said this many times.
- 46:12Speaker 2: One of my regrets of people I never got to
- 46:15Speaker 2: see live in concert was the great Marty Robbins. Thanks
- 46:19Speaker 2: for being with us here on a Monday. We want
- 46:24Speaker 2: to hear from Marcel Reed, the A & M quarterback
- 46:28Speaker 2: who visited with the media following the loss in Columbia
- 46:33Speaker 2: on Saturday.
- 46:34Speaker 29: Marcel, just at this point in the season, what do
- 46:39Speaker 29: you feel like.
- 46:40Speaker 17: Can be done to fix this offense?
- 46:42Speaker 29: I mean, we just got to keep going to practice
- 46:44Speaker 29: and trying to figure out what the issue is. You know,
- 46:47Speaker 29: each and every week we watch the tape and we
- 46:50Speaker 29: got to watch ourselves, but we also got to watch
- 46:52Speaker 29: the other opponent. So while trying to correct our issues,
- 46:56Speaker 29: we're trying to prepare for the next team. So Uh,
- 46:58Speaker 29: we just got to keep doing that and coming to
- 47:00Speaker 29: work and we can't give up on the season just
- 47:01Speaker 29: because we have three losses.
- 47:04Speaker 5: Travis.
- 47:04Speaker 19: Tony.
- 47:04Speaker 5: What's the, what's the week look like for you, right?
- 47:07Speaker 5: Like come out here, probably have good weeks in practice.
- 47:09Speaker 5: Like what's it look like that kind of leads to
- 47:11Speaker 5: this point?
- 47:12Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 47:12Speaker 29: Um, it's just those, those, you know, little, little lulls
- 47:16Speaker 29: probably in practice that, you know, you see in one
- 47:19Speaker 29: period or two, but you know, that one period means
- 47:21Speaker 29: a lot when it comes to playing on Saturday.
- 47:23Speaker 17: Um, you know, certain things show.
- 47:25Speaker 29: Up that, you know, we continuously talk about, um, but
- 47:28Speaker 29: it seems like we're not getting it fixed. We've got
- 47:31Speaker 29: to put our foot down and get those things addressed.
- 47:35Speaker 29: If we can't get the problems addressed and whatever's going on,
- 47:41Speaker 29: we can't have that on the field on Saturday. We've
- 47:43Speaker 29: got to get that addressed quickly and figure that out.
- 47:48Speaker 12: With the play calling, do you see a lot of
- 47:51Speaker 12: the guys open? Do you see the plays developing? Do
- 47:54Speaker 12: you feel like it's the right plays at the right time,
- 47:56Speaker 12: or do you feel like there's plays that could be
- 47:59Speaker 12: better putting y'all in the positions to be successful.
- 48:02Speaker 29: Yeah, there are definitely plays that are called at the
- 48:04Speaker 29: right time, and there are plays that are executed, there
- 48:06Speaker 29: are plays that aren't executed. Sometimes when they are executed,
- 48:09Speaker 29: we'll have a penalty that sets us back 10 yards.
- 48:12Speaker 29: And then, you know, sometimes when they aren't executed, it
- 48:15Speaker 29: may be a bad throw by me, you know, route depth,
- 48:20Speaker 29: bad route, wrong timing, stuff like that. So we got
- 48:23Speaker 29: to get all that stuff cleaned up, and we can't
- 48:25Speaker 29: have those– one mistakes on, you know, it plays, especially
- 48:30Speaker 29: the explosive ones that we're having, uh, cause it's taking
- 48:32Speaker 29: it away and, uh, it's making the momentum shift for sure.
- 48:35Speaker 29: And it makes it feel worse than it actually is. And, um,
- 48:38Speaker 29: you know, that's what we're feeling. So, uh, we got
- 48:40Speaker 29: to get that fixed soon.
- 48:43Speaker 27: Marcel, um, do you have an opinion on what you
- 48:46Speaker 27: think might be the, the basis of what, why you
- 48:51Speaker 27: are struggling?
- 48:52Speaker 29: I mean, it's, it's just, it's, It's us making mistakes,
- 48:56Speaker 29: and that's what it is. We've got to fix our mistakes.
- 49:00Speaker 29: And like I said, it takes 11 people to complete
- 49:02Speaker 29: a football play. It only takes six seconds. The average
- 49:06Speaker 29: football play is six seconds. So if we can do that,
- 49:10Speaker 29: play about a five to seven minute, just executing what
- 49:15Speaker 29: we're supposed to do, five to seven minutes in.
- 49:17Speaker 17: A total game, executing what we're supposed to do will
- 49:19Speaker 17: be the best team in the country. But we're not doing.
- 49:22Speaker 4: That right now.
- 49:23Speaker 17: That's my opinion.
- 49:24Speaker 29: We're having that one person or a penalty drive killer.
- 49:33Speaker 29: All those things are setting us back. We're starting possessions.
- 49:37Speaker 29: with a good run, and then, you know, going back
- 49:39Speaker 29: to second and 13, and we have to try to
- 49:42Speaker 29: get that back and convert on third down, and it's
- 49:44Speaker 29: hard to do, so we.
- 49:45Speaker 17: Got to eliminate that immediately, and I think we'll be
- 49:50Speaker 17: just fine.
- 49:51Speaker 5: Are you as comfortable in Holman's offense as you were
- 49:55Speaker 5: in Collins?
- 49:56Speaker 29: I'm comfortable in it, yes, sir. I mean, there's nothing
- 49:57Speaker 29: wrong with the offense. It's just, like, what I keep repeating.
- 50:00Speaker 29: It's literally just those one single mistakes that are happening
- 50:04Speaker 29: each and every play. You know, we're uh, whiffing on
- 50:07Speaker 29: the block. Uh, I didn't step up and make the throw. Um, we're,
- 50:11Speaker 29: we're not at our route depth. We're not doing, you know,
- 50:13Speaker 29: what we're supposed to do. It's just one person, uh,
- 50:16Speaker 29: every single play. And we just got to get that fixed.
- 50:19Speaker 17: How are you personally trying to process some of the
- 50:21Speaker 17: struggles for you and the offense?
- 50:23Speaker 5: And how do you mentally.
- 50:24Speaker 17: Get over just sort of the rut you are in? Yeah,
- 50:27Speaker 17: I'm just trying to figure out a way to lead
- 50:28Speaker 17: this team. You know, it's, it's hard. Um, when you're
- 50:32Speaker 17: going through something like this, um, and.
- 50:35Speaker 29: For a lot of the younger guys who, you know,
- 50:38Speaker 29: had their first seasons last year, um, you know, I'm not,
- 50:42Speaker 29: I'm not going to call them spoiled, but I would feel,
- 50:45Speaker 29: I would feel kind of spoiled coming into my, you know,
- 50:47Speaker 29: my first season playing and, you.
- 50:49Speaker 17: Know, having a, uh, 10 to 11 win season.
- 50:53Speaker 29: Um, and then feeling this way, you know, this season,
- 50:57Speaker 29: but yeah, we, we just got to get that fixed.
- 51:00Speaker 29: I got to be the one to get the message across,
- 51:02Speaker 29: especially on the offensive side. And, um, We've got to
- 51:05Speaker 29: help the defense out. The defense played their butt off,
- 51:07Speaker 29: and they can only do so much. They'll get tired
- 51:12Speaker 29: once they have to go off so many drives because
- 51:14Speaker 29: we're not sustaining drives, and we understand that, but we've
- 51:18Speaker 29: got to help them out.
- 51:19Speaker 17: They played some good defense.
- 51:20Speaker 29: For us and given us opportunities to put us in
- 51:22Speaker 29: great positions to go put the ball in the end zone,
- 51:24Speaker 29: and we haven't capitalized. I have to be the one
- 51:28Speaker 29: to address that and.
- 51:29Speaker 13: Get it changed.
- 51:30Speaker 12: Tyler, don't wrap things up with Peter.
- 51:32Speaker 6: You brought up last year more.
- 51:33Speaker 11: So what do you feel like the biggest difference is
- 51:35Speaker 11: maybe feeling or just from the way last year's offense
- 51:39Speaker 11: felt to what you're going through now?
- 51:41Speaker 17: Yeah. I mean, I think I really just think the
- 51:44Speaker 17: biggest difference is.
- 51:48Speaker 29: We're losing. Like, you know, when you're winning, you feel good,
- 51:51Speaker 29: you feel confident. And, you know, I'm not saying I'm
- 51:54Speaker 29: not confident. I'm confident coming in every week.
- 51:57Speaker 17: But, you know.
- 52:01Speaker 29: We're not winning right now and it just doesn't feel
- 52:03Speaker 29: the same. Um, I don't think there is.
- 52:06Speaker 17: A definitive difference.
- 52:07Speaker 29: You know, we have a couple of players that, you know,
- 52:10Speaker 29: went on with their life, went to the NFL and
- 52:12Speaker 29: had to come get some people out of the transport portal. But, um,
- 52:14Speaker 29: there's just as much talent on this team as there
- 52:16Speaker 29: was last year. So, um, we just got to figure
- 52:19Speaker 29: out how to utilize it.
- 52:20Speaker 11: Now, what would you see on those two interceptions, especially
- 52:23Speaker 11: that first one, the end zone, you feel like you've
- 52:24Speaker 11: made the right, the right read on that.
- 52:26Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 52:26Speaker 17: I just saw a portion of the play is good defense.
- 52:28Speaker 29: Um, You know, maybe could have put the ball a
- 52:31Speaker 29: little more in front of him to where, you know,
- 52:34Speaker 29: it's either him catching it or no tip at all.
- 52:38Speaker 17: And then the other one, we just got to make
- 52:39Speaker 17: a play, you know.
- 52:42Speaker 29: And, you know, I'll be better about putting the ball
- 52:43Speaker 29: in his body so I can make it easy for him.
- 52:45Speaker 17: But at the end of the day, you know.
- 52:48Speaker 29: The people that have the job that they have have
- 52:50Speaker 29: to do their job. And so that goes for me too.
- 52:53Speaker 29: So I got to do what I'm supposed to do.
- 52:55Speaker 29: And everybody else on the field has to do what
- 52:57Speaker 29: they have to do. Are you confident the offense can
- 53:02Speaker 29: turn it around, and do you feel like the coaching
- 53:04Speaker 29: staff is confident that you guys can do it or not? Yeah,
- 53:07Speaker 29: I'm confident that we can turn it around. It's not
- 53:11Speaker 29: rocket science what the problem is for us. It's just,
- 53:15Speaker 29: you know, we have to do our part. Every single
- 53:17Speaker 29: person on the field has to do their part, and
- 53:18Speaker 29: that's not what's happening right now. But do you feel
- 53:20Speaker 29: like other people, coaches, other players believe that as well?
- 53:23Speaker 13: I do.
- 53:24Speaker 17: Yeah, I definitely do. You know, if they didn't believe it,
- 53:27Speaker 17: then they wouldn't be out on the field with me.
- 53:29Speaker 17: I wouldn't let it happen like that.
- 53:31Speaker 2: All right, that's Marcel Reed postgame. And, you know, more
- 53:37Speaker 2: questions than answers, but he's right. I mean, he's part
- 53:43Speaker 2: of the issue. The line's part of the issue. The
- 53:45Speaker 2: receiving core is part of the issue. Drops, when everything works,
- 53:51Speaker 2: that involves drop, tip.
- 53:54Speaker 1: There's a hold.
- 53:57Speaker 2: There's a jump with an illegal procedure. There were seven
- 54:01Speaker 2: penalties for 50 yards. When your offense is at the
- 54:07Speaker 2: position that it's in, that feels like 14 penalties for
- 54:12Speaker 2: 100 yards, frankly. Anyway, we've got the writer's roundtable coming
- 54:22Speaker 2: up for you in the second hour of the program.
- 54:25Speaker 2: You know, one of the things that Elko said today,
- 54:30Speaker 2: one of the surprising areas is the passing game that has.
- 54:41Speaker 19: Failed.
- 54:42Speaker 1: He said, I was.
- 54:43Speaker 2: Very confident in that coming in. Now, Marcel hasn't been good.
- 54:49Speaker 2: They've had issues at receiver as well. Ashton Bethel-Roman was
- 54:53Speaker 2: nicked up. Mario Kramer's nicked up. Terry Bussey is out.
- 54:59Speaker 2: You've got young guys now coming in. They did get
- 55:03Speaker 2: the ball to the tight end a couple of three
- 55:06Speaker 2: times on Saturday. The frustrations are numerous. The answers at
- 55:17Speaker 2: this point are.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Few, unfortunately. All right, I'm going to take a break.
- 55:23Speaker 1: We'll wrap up.

- 56:04Speaker 2: started this business, it was in Waco, but they were

- 56:10Speaker 2: get a shop. right off of Texas Avenue in the
- 56:13Speaker 2: heart of Bryan, Texas. And it's been there ever since
- 56:17Speaker 2: because people understand that when they have transmission difficulties, it's
- 56:22Speaker 2: probably good to take your car or truck to a
- 56:26Speaker 2: business with transmission in the name. See why they say
- 56:31Speaker 2: no one knows transmissions like we do at Oliver Brothers.
