• 0:00
Speaker 1: I was going on this, Romeo, check it out what
• 0:02
Speaker 1: you missed already four for seven to seven. You know,
• 0:07
  Speaker 1: rome I have a.
• 0:08
Speaker 2: Question for you about tipping. I just found out this
• 0:12
Speaker 2: morning when I was looking at their steep from last night.
• 0:14
Speaker 2: My wife and I went out with some friends to
• 0:16
Speaker 2: a restaurant and we got a separate bill. When I
• 0:19
Speaker 2: paid the bill, I left the tip. When I got home.
• 0:23
Speaker 2: I actually was looking at the bill and I saw
• 0:26
Speaker 2: that the tip was already included, and the waitress didn't
• 0:30
Speaker 2: tell me that, so I ended up tipping her twice.
• 0:34
  Speaker 1: Don't you think that's a scam?
• 0:35
  Speaker 3: Room.
• 0:36
Speaker 1: I don't know what to do about it.
• 0:37
Speaker 2: I think I should go back to the restaurant and
• 0:40
Speaker 2: try to get my money back from the tip.
• 0:45
  Speaker 1: No, I mean, I don't think it's a scam.
• 0:47
Speaker 2: I'm gonna guess this is what I'm gonna guess happen
• 0:49
Speaker 2: just based on what you said. You said you went
• 0:51
Speaker 2: out with some friends and the and the tip was
• 0:56
Speaker 2: already on the bill. I don't think it was a scam.
• 0:58
Speaker 2: What I think it was was you probably had most
• 1:01
Speaker 2: restaurants anybody over what is it six people? I believe
• 1:05
Speaker 2: I think it's six people. At the table.
• 1:07
Speaker 1: Then they automatically include.
• 1:09
Speaker 2: The tip to the bill. So I'm gonna guess that's
• 1:14
Speaker 2: what happened, and that's pretty standard, pretty common practice, nowady,
• 1:19
Speaker 2: is it a restaurant after a certain amount of people,
• 1:22
Speaker 2: they add a tip to the bill, which I don't
• 1:23
Speaker 2: have a problem with, especially the only reason I have
• 1:26
Speaker 2: a problem with it only happened to be one time.
• 1:29
Speaker 2: But this was years ago, where they added the tip
• 1:31
Speaker 2: to the bill because we had a big party and
• 1:33
Speaker 2: the service was awful because they knew they were already
• 1:35
Speaker 2: getting their tip. Now, I've never had that happen before.
• 1:38
Speaker 2: It only happened one time. But I don't think it's
• 1:43
Speaker 2: a scam. I think it's just that that policy and
• 1:46
Speaker 2: if your service was good, but the problem is not
• 1:51
Speaker 2: the restaurant, it's you. You should have paid attention that
• 1:55
Speaker 2: the tip. I know what you're thinking, right, it's only
• 1:59
Speaker 2: the two of the bill, just you and your wife,
• 2:01
Speaker 2: So why would you Why would they add the tip?
• 2:03
Speaker 1: But you were in a.
• 2:04
Speaker 2: Big party, I'm guessing because you said you went out
• 2:06
Speaker 2: with friends, so your party probably exceeded whatever number of
• 2:09
Speaker 2: the restaurant has to put the tip directly on the
• 2:13
Speaker 2: bill and you know, you just didn't pay attention to
• 2:17
  Speaker 2: the bill till today. So no, I don't I don't
• 2:19
Speaker 2: think you should get your money back. I don't think
• 2:20
Speaker 2: you should go to the restaurant. I don't think you
• 2:22
Speaker 2: should chalk it up as uh as them trying to
• 2:27
Speaker 2: scam you. I think you just gotta take the l
• 2:30
Speaker 2: on that one. You didn't pay attention to what was
• 2:32
Speaker 2: going on. You pay you added another tip thinking you
• 2:35
Speaker 2: know it is what it is. You should have read
• 2:38
Speaker 2: the bill right, and that's.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: What it is. So but I.
• 2:42
Speaker 2: Don't think that. I don't think they were trying to
• 2:44
Speaker 2: scam you by any means. What was the what was
• 2:47
Speaker 2: the tip? I'm gonna guess by the way that whatever
• 2:50
Speaker 2: percentage they were adding to your bill as a tip
• 2:54
Speaker 2: is probably less than what you were really going to
• 2:56
Speaker 2: give them if they hadn't added that.
• 2:59
  Speaker 1: I'm just guessing.
• 3:01
Speaker 2: So yeah, that's probably what happened. So a guy he
• 3:04
Speaker 2: texted me and I guess he was out with his
• 3:06
Speaker 2: wife and some prints last night.
• 3:09
Speaker 1: He said he didn't realize he doubled tipped.
• 3:12
Speaker 2: And what I think happened. And I'm just going off
• 3:14
  Speaker 2: what he's saying.
• 3:15
  Speaker 1: I'm assuming.
• 3:17
Speaker 2: What happened was most restaurants, anything over a certain amount
• 3:22
Speaker 2: of people, they will include the tip, which is fine,
• 3:25
Speaker 2: that's their policy. There's nothing really wrong with that. But
• 3:29
Speaker 2: he ended up tipping again, and then he saw it,
• 3:32
Speaker 2: he said he saw it the next day, he saw
• 3:34
Speaker 2: the bill which had the tip already included, and then
• 3:38
Speaker 2: he added a tip, and he was he thought he
• 3:40
  Speaker 2: was getting scammed. And I don't think it's a scam.
• 3:42
Speaker 2: I think you just weren't paying attention. You got to
• 3:44
Speaker 2: pay attention to your bill. Okay, he wasn't paying attention
• 3:46
Speaker 2: to his bill, and apparently I'm going to guess there
• 3:49
Speaker 2: was more than probably six people at his table, or
• 3:52
Speaker 2: six or more people. That's usually what the common practice is.
• 3:55
Speaker 2: And I don't think they were scamming you. I think
• 3:58
Speaker 2: you just didn't pay attention in your bill that the
• 4:00
Speaker 2: tip was already included.
• 4:02
Speaker 1: So it is what it is.
• 4:03
Speaker 2: Man, chalk it up as hey, I pay attention to
• 4:06
Speaker 2: your bill next time. Already for tuvavo or seven seven yo.
• 4:10
  Speaker 4: Rome.
• 4:11
Speaker 2: You were talking about the tipping. You don't think that
• 4:14
Speaker 2: it's unreasonable for restaurants to add the tip to the
• 4:19
Speaker 2: bill after a certain amount of people.
• 4:21
  Speaker 1: I don't think that's unreasonable.
• 4:23
Speaker 2: I think it's bs if they don't give you good
• 4:27
Speaker 2: service because they know they're already getting a tip. And
• 4:30
Speaker 2: to be perfectly honest with you, most of the places
• 4:33
Speaker 2: that i've seen that do that, or the places that
• 4:36
Speaker 2: i've been that do that, the percentage that they're asking
• 4:41
Speaker 2: or the percentage that they add on to me is
• 4:45
Speaker 2: not even really enough for a tip, you know what
• 4:48
  Speaker 2: I'm saying.
• 4:49
Speaker 1: But you got to do something. I mean, it gets
• 4:53
Speaker 1: big tables or a pain in the ass.
• 4:55
Speaker 2: Man, when you go out with a group of people,
• 4:58
Speaker 2: feel I feel kind of bad. I don't like going
• 5:00
Speaker 2: out with large groups of people because when the bill comes,
• 5:05
Speaker 2: it's a pain in the ass. And raid to robbel
• 5:06
Speaker 2: though he's probably listening, he goes out with a huge
• 5:08
Speaker 2: family every I think they go out to breakfast every
• 5:11
Speaker 2: Sunday or whatever, and I don't know how they deal
• 5:13
Speaker 2: with their bill, but he'll tell us.
• 5:17
Speaker 1: But it gets to be a painting.
• 5:18
Speaker 2: I don't like going out with more than two people
• 5:22
Speaker 2: because it turns into just a headache, you know, with
• 5:25
  Speaker 2: the bill.
• 5:26
Speaker 1: Oh, we'll take separate bills.
• 5:27
Speaker 2: I think nowadays with these electronic electronic devices.
• 5:32
Speaker 1: That they use for calculating your bill.
• 5:34
Speaker 2: I think it's easier for the waitress or waiter waitress
• 5:37
Speaker 2: or the wait staff to deal with it. But as
• 5:41
Speaker 2: a customer with a large group, everybody wants to. I mean,
• 5:45
  Speaker 2: it's just a pain.
• 5:45
  Speaker 1: In the ass.
• 5:46
Speaker 2: How much did you spend? How much did I spend?
• 5:48
Speaker 2: How are we splitting the bill equally or do we do?
• 5:50
  Speaker 2: I mean, it's just you know why I didn't order
• 5:53
Speaker 2: this and I didn't order that. I didn't order that much.
• 5:55
Speaker 2: He ordered way more than me. So you know, it
• 5:58
Speaker 2: just gets to be when it gets to be a headache.
• 6:01
Speaker 2: So I can understand why a waiter or a weight
• 6:05
Speaker 2: staff would want to add the percentage to a bill
• 6:07
Speaker 2: for large parties. I don't even like dealing with large parties.
• 6:10
Speaker 2: I don't know how you guys split up. I will
• 6:12
Speaker 2: find out what Rader Robb does. But sometimes it's easier
• 6:15
Speaker 2: just to pay for everything, just to get out of
• 6:18
Speaker 2: there and not deal with it.
• 6:19
Speaker 1: But you know, not everybody can afford it. I can't
• 6:22
  Speaker 1: afford it.
• 6:23
Speaker 2: So a guy he had sent me a text message
• 6:25
Speaker 2: saying he was out last night with his wife and
• 6:28
Speaker 2: some friends and apparently they got a bill just him
• 6:30
Speaker 2: and his wife. Well, he didn't realize that there was
• 6:33
Speaker 2: the tip was already added, so he tipped again, and
• 6:37
Speaker 2: he thought maybe he was getting scammed. I don't think
• 6:39
Speaker 2: you were getting scammed by the restaurant. I think you
• 6:41
Speaker 2: didn't pay attention to your bill. So what I think
• 6:44
Speaker 2: happened is there was probably more than whatever number the
• 6:48
Speaker 2: restaurant says you have to have to already add the tip.
• 6:52
Speaker 1: You just didn't pay attention.
• 6:53
  Speaker 2: So I don't I don't think it's a scam, but
• 6:55
Speaker 2: you know, dealing with the bills is ridiculous when you
• 6:58
Speaker 2: go out with multiple people already a four four or
• 7:01
Speaker 2: seven to seven eight good morning Rome. Always look at
• 7:04
Speaker 2: your receipt to verify everything. The only thing I don't
• 7:07
Speaker 2: like is the Kiosks you paid through want you to
• 7:11
  Speaker 2: tip on.
• 7:11
Speaker 1: Top of taxes added.
• 7:13
Speaker 2: Example, one hundred dollars meal, Kiosk will do twenty percent
• 7:17
Speaker 2: tip on after taxes, generating extra dollars sixty.
• 7:22
Speaker 1: Five Do you have to do they.
• 7:26
Speaker 2: A Kiosk makes you tip, why don't you just deny
• 7:30
Speaker 2: the tip? Or is that I never seen that? If
• 7:32
  Speaker 2: I don't go to places, it's very rare that I've
• 7:35
Speaker 2: ever gone to a place where you get where you
• 7:39
Speaker 2: order it a kiosk, So I don't know they they
• 7:42
Speaker 2: automatically put the tip in there. I've never seen that before.
• 7:44
Speaker 2: You're gonna have to explain that one a little more
• 7:46
Speaker 2: already four two five, four or seven to seven. So
• 7:49
Speaker 2: how do you deal with a bill with multiple people
• 7:52
  Speaker 2: are tipping?
• 7:52
  Speaker 1: I don't know.
• 7:53
Speaker 2: A guy was telling me he just texted me and
• 7:54
Speaker 2: he said he went out with his wife last night,
• 7:56
Speaker 2: was from friends, and when he looked at the receipt
• 7:58
Speaker 2: the next day for his bill, I guess he had tipped.
• 8:02
Speaker 2: But then he didn't realize that they had already put
• 8:05
Speaker 2: the tip, included the tip in his bill.
• 8:07
Speaker 1: So he thought maybe that he was getting scammed. And
• 8:10
Speaker 1: I don't think he was getting scammed.
• 8:12
Speaker 2: What I think happened was he there was probably more
• 8:16
Speaker 2: it's usually six people. He was probably more than six
• 8:18
Speaker 2: people at the table. Even though him and his wife
• 8:20
Speaker 2: got his own bill, you're still you're still a bigger party.
• 8:24
Speaker 2: So they added the tip to your bill. I don't
• 8:26
Speaker 2: think there's anything wrong with that. If that's what they'll
• 8:28
Speaker 2: tell you they're going to do, then you can make
• 8:30
Speaker 2: the decision on whether you're going to.
• 8:31
Speaker 1: Be there or not stay.
• 8:33
Speaker 2: So he paid didn't pay attention. And that's that you
• 8:39
Speaker 2: know already four ft four or seven to seven. Hey, Rome,
• 8:44
Speaker 2: what you're saying doesn't make any sense. If him and
• 8:47
Speaker 2: his wife, who were two people, got their own bill,
• 8:51
Speaker 2: why would they put the tip in It wasn't more
• 8:55
Speaker 2: than six As you said, Well, look if you have
• 9:01
  Speaker 2: a party. That's why I said, I hate going out
• 9:04
Speaker 2: with multiple people and when it comes to paying the bill,
• 9:07
Speaker 2: because some people want to get their own bill. Some
• 9:11
Speaker 2: people want to get there, you know, want to split
• 9:13
Speaker 2: it equally. Some people want to calculate exactly how much
• 9:17
Speaker 2: they spend versus you know, how much they ate and
• 9:20
Speaker 2: what their bill is. And then so anyway back to
• 9:24
Speaker 2: your question, you don't get it because even if you
• 9:27
Speaker 2: have more than six people, and I'm just using that
• 9:30
Speaker 2: as the bar of when they include the tip at
• 9:33
Speaker 2: the restaurant, a party's over six. Even if you have
• 9:37
Speaker 2: six or more people and everybody gets a separate bill,
• 9:40
Speaker 2: it's still a table of six, you know, So you
• 9:43
Speaker 2: got to understand that.
• 9:46
Speaker 1: Eight four, five four or seven to seven. Hey, Roam.
• 9:49
Speaker 2: What I hate is when we all go out as
• 9:51
Speaker 2: a big family, as a party. The people that only
• 9:54
Speaker 2: want to pay for what they they got, but they
• 9:58
Speaker 2: don't include the tip in that.
• 10:01
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that happens.
• 10:03
Speaker 2: So when it comes to going out and eating in
• 10:05
Speaker 2: large groups with lou with large groups of people, right,
• 10:07
Speaker 2: they add a tip, which is no big deal. But
• 10:10
Speaker 2: you got to pay attention to Some guy thought he
• 10:11
Speaker 2: got scammed because he went out with a large group.
• 10:13
Speaker 2: Him and his wife got their own bill. He got
• 10:15
Speaker 2: looked at the bill and saw that the tip was
• 10:17
Speaker 2: already added, and he tipped again with that. But that's
• 10:20
Speaker 2: on you for not paying attention. All right, good morning,
• 10:23
Speaker 2: how it's going on?
• 10:24
Speaker 5: What's roan seahawk glue man lo hey ron.
• 10:28
Speaker 6: So one way I avoid that auto tipping thing is
• 10:36
Speaker 6: is that as soon as I get there, I tell
• 10:38
Speaker 6: them we're all paying separate bills. So whenever you get
• 10:42
Speaker 6: your bill, you don't get auto tip. You know what
• 10:45
  Speaker 6: I mean?
• 10:45
Speaker 1: What do you mean auto tip? What do you mean?
• 10:47
  Speaker 3: Do you mean?
• 10:48
Speaker 2: If if there's more than whatever number of people at
• 10:50
  Speaker 2: the table?
• 10:52
Speaker 6: Yeah, so they had six of us, it's going to
• 10:54
Speaker 6: be oh, those two people are paying for themselves.
• 10:58
Speaker 5: Us to paying for ourselves, and so when the.
• 11:01
Speaker 6: Bill comes for only me, and another person. I don't
• 11:05
Speaker 6: get that hit automatically just because the party's more than six.
• 11:10
  Speaker 7: Oh.
• 11:10
Speaker 2: I don't know where that where you're getting away with
• 11:12
Speaker 2: that at But I've never seen that happen.
• 11:14
Speaker 6: But okay, yeah, no, that's a better way to get
• 11:17
Speaker 6: away with that. And then you tip them accordingly, whether
• 11:21
Speaker 6: they earned it or not.
• 11:22
  Speaker 7: That's the way I feel.
• 11:23
Speaker 1: I'm not arguing with you. I just have never seen
• 11:25
  Speaker 1: that happen.
• 11:25
Speaker 2: Every time I've been out and people have gotten separate bills,
• 11:27
Speaker 2: they've always added the tip based on how many people
• 11:30
Speaker 2: were at the table.
• 11:31
  Speaker 1: So okay, I don't know.
• 11:32
Speaker 2: Where you're going, but okay, all right, I don't know
• 11:36
Speaker 2: where that's happening at all. Right for five for seven seven,
• 11:42
Speaker 2: would you send me here?
• 11:43
  Speaker 7: Rome?
• 11:44
Speaker 2: Oh, this is the kiosk right on the one hundred
• 11:46
Speaker 2: dollars meal. The kiosk. It gives you an option fifteen,
• 11:49
Speaker 2: eighteen or twenty or other if you click twenty at hat,
• 11:52
Speaker 2: if you click twenty percent, it has you tip rather
• 11:57
Speaker 2: than it has you tip one hundred.
• 11:58
  Speaker 5: Oh.
• 11:59
Speaker 2: I see what you're saying, and I see what you're saying.
• 12:02
Speaker 2: You're they're not forcing you to tip. They're just letting
• 12:05
Speaker 2: giving you the tip after the taxes, so that adds
• 12:08
Speaker 2: a little extra to icye what you're saying now, I
• 12:11
Speaker 2: thought you were going to some kiosk where they were
• 12:13
Speaker 2: forcing you to tip or already adding it on. I
• 12:18
Speaker 2: see what you're saying. Alrighty four two, five, four or
• 12:20
Speaker 2: seven seven. Yeah, but you can always do the math yourself.
• 12:23
Speaker 1: Right, Hey, good morning Rome. Yes, it's true.
• 12:27
Speaker 2: You usually put it in front of the restaurant. They
• 12:32
Speaker 2: usually put it in front of the restaurant. We went
• 12:34
Speaker 2: to clad Addie Seafood in taff and in small words,
• 12:39
Speaker 2: it says, if there's a party of six or more,
• 12:41
Speaker 2: a tip will be added at the end of the
• 12:43
  Speaker 2: receipt when pain Yeah, I don't think there's a problem
• 12:47
Speaker 2: with that, do you.
• 12:47
  Speaker 1: I don't think that's an.
• 12:48
Speaker 2: If they put it up there and you know what
• 12:50
Speaker 2: you're getting yourself into, then you get you you know,
• 12:52
Speaker 2: that's your option to decide whether you want to go
• 12:54
Speaker 2: there or not. But you got to pay attention. I mean,
• 12:57
Speaker 2: you don't want to double tip right already four two, five.
• 13:02
Speaker 1: Four or seven to seven. A room tipping is for
• 13:04
  Speaker 1: the birds.
• 13:05
Speaker 2: I will say this about tipping and for those of
• 13:09
Speaker 2: you that don't do it. You shouldn't do it everywhere. Okay,
• 13:14
Speaker 2: let's be honest. You should still. I still go by
• 13:17
Speaker 2: the policy of a lot of you guys are taking
• 13:21
Speaker 2: this opportunity of how crazy tipping has become and how
• 13:30
Speaker 2: shisty some of these people are to want you to
• 13:32
  Speaker 2: tip them.
• 13:33
Speaker 1: That you've just cut everybody off, and that's not the
• 13:37
Speaker 1: way to do it.
• 13:37
Speaker 2: You should still tip a weight staff when you're out
• 13:41
Speaker 2: of dinner. You should still tip all the traditional people,
• 13:46
Speaker 2: the weight staff, the bartender. Maybe you tip the valet
• 13:53
Speaker 2: when you drop off your car. Although I do got
• 13:56
Speaker 2: a question that is kind of a scam for me,
• 13:58
Speaker 2: which I've never talked about, when you stay somewhere, When
• 14:06
Speaker 2: you stay somewhere for like a week or a few days,
• 14:10
Speaker 2: and you're constantly getting your car in and out and
• 14:12
Speaker 2: you're tipping every single time. I don't know about that,
• 14:15
Speaker 2: But that's there seems to be a hustle. But it's
• 14:17
Speaker 2: only a couple of bucks a time, though, But I
• 14:20
Speaker 2: still think you should tip them.
• 14:24
  Speaker 1: That's about it.
• 14:26
Speaker 2: You probably should still tip the barber and the hairdresser,
• 14:31
Speaker 2: and but I don't know those those guys are making
• 14:34
Speaker 2: so much damn money that.
• 14:38
  Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.
• 14:40
Speaker 2: Maybe the nail salon, I'm not sure. I think I
• 14:43
Speaker 2: think those they're I don't want to say aggressively taking
• 14:47
Speaker 2: advantage of you financially, because I don't know what the
• 14:51
Speaker 2: costs are to be a barber. I don't know what
• 14:53
Speaker 2: the costs are to run a hair salon. I don't
• 14:54
Speaker 2: know what those costs are.
• 14:55
Speaker 1: So I don't know if they are taking advantage of you.
• 15:02
  Speaker 1: So I don't know.
• 15:04
Speaker 2: But I still think the traditional people you've tipped you
• 15:07
Speaker 2: should still give a tip to. But the jama juice
• 15:11
Speaker 2: anybody that puts you gives you an iPad and says here,
• 15:14
Speaker 2: it's going to ask you a question. Those people don't
• 15:16
Speaker 2: deserve tips already four two pop four or seven to seven.
• 15:20
Speaker 2: Let's see here, hey, roam. It's crazy the Starbucks even
• 15:22
Speaker 2: ask for a tip. It's crazy that when you drive
• 15:24
Speaker 2: through a drive through that they ask you for a tip.
• 15:27
Speaker 2: I mean, it's ridiculous some of the things some of
• 15:29
Speaker 2: the people that ask you for something already four two
• 15:32
Speaker 2: pou or seven to seven, good morning.
• 15:34
Speaker 8: Not what's going on on tipping is if you can't
• 15:37
Speaker 8: afford a tip, don't even go out and eat, say
• 15:40
  Speaker 8: you put home.
• 15:42
Speaker 2: I have mixed feelings about that, but yeah, I get
• 15:44
  Speaker 2: what you're saying.
• 15:46
Speaker 9: I mean, normally, like if I invite people out to eat,
• 15:49
Speaker 9: I'm going to pick up the bill and they're going
• 15:50
Speaker 9: to do the tipping or vice versa.
• 15:52
Speaker 8: If I get invited out to eat somebody's.
• 15:56
Speaker 2: Here's the thing, David, And this is why I say
• 15:58
Speaker 2: I have a little bit of a mixed feeling. What
• 16:00
Speaker 2: if you're a single mom with two kids, and you
• 16:05
Speaker 2: can afford to take your kids out, but you can't
• 16:08
Speaker 2: afford the tip. Should those kids and that mom should
• 16:11
Speaker 2: she not be able to do that?
• 16:16
  Speaker 8: I don't think so.
• 16:17
Speaker 9: She should save it for the people that have money
• 16:19
  Speaker 9: to do it.
• 16:19
  Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't. I don't know that you're right about that, But.
• 16:22
Speaker 8: Okay, the state gives them some sun Bucks. It's like summertime, EBT.
• 16:27
Speaker 9: She could stay at home cook it up.
• 16:29
Speaker 8: And if you can't afford, what makes.
• 16:31
Speaker 2: You what makes you think she's a single mom on
• 16:33
Speaker 2: the EV team. Maybe she's a single mom just trying
• 16:36
Speaker 2: to make it work because she's.
• 16:37
Speaker 8: You know, yeah, it's it's tough right now. Inflation and
• 16:41
Speaker 8: everything is high out there. So you know, I try
• 16:44
Speaker 8: not to go out unless I have enough to splurg.
• 16:46
Speaker 9: And leave a tip.
• 16:47
Speaker 8: And it's all due to good service. If the service
• 16:50
Speaker 8: is horrible, if my drink's empty the whole time, I'm
• 16:53
Speaker 8: not tipping enough, my tip is going to be faster
• 16:56
  Speaker 8: next time, Okay.
• 17:01
Speaker 2: David, I just that's where the dilemma comes in when
• 17:03
Speaker 2: you think about tipping, because a lot of people say,
• 17:06
Speaker 2: if you can't afford it, don't do it. But what
• 17:07
Speaker 2: if you are that single mom who wants to take
• 17:10
Speaker 2: your children out or your child out or who because
• 17:14
Speaker 2: everybody should be able to, should be able to go
• 17:16
Speaker 2: out and enjoy, you know, a night out whatever that
• 17:20
  Speaker 2: consists of.
• 17:21
  Speaker 1: So anyway, I don't know.
• 17:24
Speaker 2: All right, So we're talking about stupid tricks you did
• 17:26
Speaker 2: as a kid, or neighborhood games you got together with
• 17:29
Speaker 2: your buddies and you would always, you know, you would
• 17:31
Speaker 2: do something dumb. You would either or you'd play some
• 17:34
Speaker 2: sort of neighborhood game to entertain yourself. Eight four two
• 17:37
Speaker 2: five four seven to seven, Good morning.
• 17:39
Speaker 1: Not what's going on? I mean?
• 17:41
Speaker 10: So I remember back in the day, me and my
• 17:45
Speaker 10: little cousins and all the little homies on the block.
• 17:48
Speaker 10: We would we're on to WWF when wrestling was real.
• 17:51
Speaker 1: Yeah, it was real, okay.
• 17:55
Speaker 10: And we used to play poop matches, so whenever a
• 17:59
Speaker 10: dog with pooping the grass, first one lost.
• 18:05
Speaker 6: It was horrible, it was it was.
• 18:09
Speaker 11: Yeah, there was knockouts outing.
• 18:11
Speaker 5: Just so whoever, whoever it is, that's vast growth.
• 18:16
Speaker 1: That's nasty, all right, man, thanks for calling.
• 18:20
Speaker 2: Like I said, man, kids will do anything to entertain themselves.
• 18:24
Speaker 2: When you know, it was just you had to go outside,
• 18:27
Speaker 2: you had to find other kids to play within your neighborhood,
• 18:31
Speaker 2: and kids would just come up with the stupidest games
• 18:34
Speaker 2: and do the dumbest tricks. Just you know, how do
• 18:39
Speaker 2: you think you know, how do you think a lot
• 18:43
Speaker 2: of these kids get hurt? A lot of these scars
• 18:45
Speaker 2: came from entertainment. That's what we had to do to
• 18:48
Speaker 2: entertain ourselves already four two, five, four or seven to seven?
• 18:51
Speaker 2: What kind of tricks? What kind of neighborhood games did
• 18:53
Speaker 2: you guys play? And when I say neighborhood games, like
• 18:58
Speaker 2: what the guy just said, they played w w F
• 19:00
Speaker 2: with pooh. I never heard of that before, but that
• 19:04
Speaker 2: was a neighborhood game. You're talking about games, neighborhood games
• 19:07
Speaker 2: you played when you were a kid.
• 19:08
  Speaker 1: Help, what's up?
• 19:10
  Speaker 12: Whoa roa roa?
• 19:11
  Speaker 3: What up?
• 19:11
  Speaker 1: Brother?
• 19:13
Speaker 10: Neighborhood game we had we called it was football.
• 19:16
Speaker 12: But we called it sideline bash.
• 19:20
Speaker 10: As long as you ran down the middle of the
• 19:22
Speaker 10: two hand touch, you ran so to the to the tidewalker.
• 19:26
Speaker 12: Whatever you got, hit, whatever you did on that talk.
• 19:29
Speaker 5: Whatever you did, whoa.
• 19:38
Speaker 1: Matron, Thanks for calling glory that was going on?
• 19:50
Speaker 5: Hey, Roman, talking about the childhood games?
• 19:52
  Speaker 1: Yeah whatever, man.
• 19:53
Speaker 12: Hey, So, there used.
• 19:54
Speaker 13: To be like ten of us.
• 19:55
Speaker 8: We all lived like two blocks from each other.
• 19:58
Speaker 5: We had the old you know, the power wheels, little
• 20:01
Speaker 5: four four wheel cars or whatever.
• 20:03
Speaker 12: Okay, dude, they'd be like six of us.
• 20:07
Speaker 5: We're all probably six or seven years old.
• 20:09
Speaker 12: You team up with your friends.
• 20:11
Speaker 5: He'd push you around. We had a little dirty going on.
• 20:14
Speaker 6: We'd smash into each other. Bro We did it until
• 20:19
  Speaker 6: our cars broke.
• 20:20
Speaker 5: Man. We had these little beat up cars that have
• 20:22
  Speaker 5: no batteries.
• 20:23
Speaker 12: And we just all got together. We just mashed into
• 20:27
Speaker 12: each other. You know, somebody pushed to you and you
• 20:30
Speaker 12: took turns just like that.
• 20:31
Speaker 1: Oh man, that's great, man, that's great.
• 20:33
Speaker 12: Great, dude, I never see those kids do that again
• 20:35
  Speaker 12: these days.
• 20:36
Speaker 1: Yeah, you vote, all right, man, They recall it all
• 20:39
Speaker 1: right man later. I mean, let's be honest when we
• 20:41
Speaker 1: talk about this stuff.
• 20:42
Speaker 2: Though, kids today will never do that stuff because they
• 20:45
Speaker 2: don't have to. I mean, back in the day before
• 20:49
Speaker 2: the internet, before the app laptop, our iPads and computers
• 20:54
Speaker 2: and all this stuff iPhones, before all of that, you.
• 20:57
Speaker 1: Had to entertain yourself.
• 20:59
Speaker 2: So you went and found on a bunch of other
• 21:01
Speaker 2: kids in your neighborhood that had nothing else to do,
• 21:03
Speaker 2: and that's how you became friends.
• 21:05
Speaker 1: He became you think about it, All the friends you have.
• 21:09
Speaker 2: For the most part now are because you were looking
• 21:12
Speaker 2: for other people, other kids that had nothing else to do,
• 21:15
Speaker 2: just like you, right you would. You might not be
• 21:18
Speaker 2: friends with them today because you know you didn't have you.
• 21:22
Speaker 2: That's all we were doing is kids running around looking
• 21:24
Speaker 2: for other kids that had nothing else to do, so
• 21:27
Speaker 2: we could do nothing together or make up silly games
• 21:30
  Speaker 2: to play.
• 21:31
Speaker 1: Already four two, five, four or seven to seven.
• 21:34
Speaker 5: Romeo, how are you this morning, great brother?
• 21:36
  Speaker 7: What's up well?
• 21:38
  Speaker 5: Growing up?
• 21:39
  Speaker 7: Man?
• 21:39
Speaker 5: A lot of childhood games that I grew up playing
• 21:42
Speaker 5: with a few friends that I had until this day,
• 21:45
Speaker 5: are still part of my life.
• 21:47
  Speaker 7: One of them.
• 21:48
Speaker 5: We didn't have a lot of money to one of them.
• 21:49
Speaker 5: What we used to do is we used to roll
• 21:51
Speaker 5: up a piece of paper, you know us in Oregon
• 21:54
Speaker 5: and turn it into a dart.
• 21:55
Speaker 13: And what we would do is you grab you grabbed
• 21:58
Speaker 13: dirt and you'd throw it inside and make it hairvy right,
• 22:02
Speaker 13: and then you grab a paper stick that you put
• 22:04
Speaker 13: it the very tip right before you put the dirt,
• 22:06
Speaker 13: so that it doesn't fall out, and you grab a
• 22:08
Speaker 13: rubber band, the sickest, hardest rubber band you can find,
• 22:12
Speaker 13: and you launch it in the air, and everybody stands
• 22:16
Speaker 13: in the circle, head.
• 22:17
Speaker 3: Down, and see whoever it hits. Mind you it's people
• 22:21
Speaker 3: with dirt. It's not really going to hurt if it's
• 22:23
Speaker 3: the back of your head. Until already decided to look
• 22:27
Speaker 3: up and we're like, we're down.
• 22:29
  Speaker 13: You know.
• 22:29
Speaker 5: It's one of those things if you're growing up in
• 22:31
Speaker 5: these Baker's fields and you hear the words you're not down,
• 22:35
Speaker 5: my gosh, or double dog dare you? You're gonna have
• 22:37
Speaker 5: to do it. So we all decide to look up. Well,
• 22:40
Speaker 5: it's already square in the eye o God. That to
• 22:44
Speaker 5: this day we call them bulls eye already, or sometimes
• 22:47
Speaker 5: we'll call them prety.
• 22:50
Speaker 1: Oh, that's hilarious to do.
• 22:53
Speaker 5: All sorts of stuff, Man, if I can tell you
• 22:55
Speaker 5: real last one, because we used to skate downhill. There's
• 22:58
Speaker 5: a street called Camino Brimaveda on these Bakers films, they
• 23:02
Speaker 5: dared me to a rollerblade downhill. I never rollerblade in
• 23:05
Speaker 5: my life. I didn't know how to stop. So as
• 23:08
Speaker 5: I'm going down, I'm about to reach College, which is
• 23:11
Speaker 5: a very busy street. I'm thinking the best thing for
• 23:16
Speaker 5: me to do, since I don't know how to stop
• 23:17
Speaker 5: on rollerblades, is to throw myself on one of the lawns.
• 23:22
  Speaker 7: Well, Newton's law.
• 23:23
Speaker 5: Of physics is that a body emotion tends to stay
• 23:26
Speaker 5: emotion unless I could have found a greater force. People
• 23:28
Speaker 5: in greater force. We'll get what When I threw myself
• 23:32
Speaker 5: midair into the grass, I completely kept going mid air
• 23:37
Speaker 5: and mixed the entiregrass area, landed on the driveway, and
• 23:41
Speaker 5: the pavement rolled a few times. Old man I was
• 23:45
Speaker 5: washing his lawn there just looked at me and he goes, man,
• 23:49
Speaker 5: you completely missed that hirography area.
• 23:53
Speaker 2: Well, we're talking about as a kid man before all
• 23:57
Speaker 2: this electronics, before video games, before or anything that kept
• 24:01
Speaker 2: you in a house. Everything you had to do was
• 24:03
Speaker 2: outside the house, which means you had to go out
• 24:06
Speaker 2: and find other kids like you who had nothing to do.
• 24:09
Speaker 2: And then that's how you made your friends in the neighborhood.
• 24:12
Speaker 2: And then after a while you'd start making up dumb
• 24:15
Speaker 2: neighborhood games, or you'd make up stupid.
• 24:17
  Speaker 1: Tricks to do.
• 24:18
Speaker 2: You know, everybody, lay down, Let's see how many how
• 24:22
Speaker 2: many kids we can jump over on our bikes?
• 24:24
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, have you done that already?
• 24:26
  Speaker 2: Four?
• 24:26
Speaker 1: Two, five, four, seven to seven? Going on? I put
• 24:33
  Speaker 1: up djo.
• 24:34
  Speaker 4: Hey.
• 24:34
Speaker 12: When I was little, used to play this game hine
• 24:39
Speaker 12: go gig heard that? No, what is It's a bunch
• 24:43
Speaker 12: of those girls and boys get together and play and
• 24:46
Speaker 12: we'd be crushing on each other and say we.
• 24:49
Speaker 9: Go high and when they find they.
• 24:50
  Speaker 2: Get it spot.
• 24:56
Speaker 1: Oh my god? What is a.
• 25:02
  Speaker 8: That's great?
• 25:05
  Speaker 1: Thanks?
• 25:07
  Speaker 6: All right?
• 25:10
Speaker 1: What should play that game as adults? All right? Hey?
• 25:12
  Speaker 7: Room?
• 25:13
Speaker 2: We used to play a game called a Black Widow
• 25:15
Speaker 2: where we where we would turn all the lights off
• 25:18
Speaker 2: in the room and just start fighting everyone in the dark,
• 25:22
Speaker 2: free for all rumbles in the dark.
• 25:24
Speaker 4: Nice nice kids are so stupid? Oh my god, how
• 25:30
Speaker 4: did we survive? Eight four two, five four seven to seventh?
• 25:33
Speaker 4: Kind of dumb neighborhood games did you play with your
• 25:35
Speaker 4: friends in the neighborhood?
• 25:36
Speaker 1: Are stupid tricks you would do? Good morning? How what's
• 25:38
  Speaker 1: going on?
• 25:39
Speaker 5: Yeah about dornof? Have you ever heard of doorknob?
• 25:43
  Speaker 1: Dor?
• 25:43
  Speaker 11: No?
• 25:44
Speaker 12: So well you're right there with your with.
• 25:46
Speaker 5: Your friends or family members and you part, they rush
• 25:50
Speaker 5: it will start beating you up until you touch the doorknob.
• 25:53
Speaker 5: We did that all the time.
• 26:02
Speaker 10: Yeah, that's what we do.
• 26:03
  Speaker 5: Man.
• 26:03
Speaker 12: So that's someone come on rush them.
• 26:07
Speaker 1: That the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
• 26:11
Speaker 11: It was fun as hell.
• 26:13
Speaker 2: All right, man, thanks for going all right, door knob,
• 26:16
  Speaker 2: let's play doorknob?
• 26:17
Speaker 1: All right? What's going on? Hey?
• 26:22
  Speaker 12: What's up?
• 26:22
  Speaker 7: Romeo?
• 26:24
Speaker 12: Are you talking about the game we used to play?
• 26:26
Speaker 7: Dumbest kids? Yeah, me and my home plays had a
• 26:29
Speaker 7: game we used to play. It's called B B Bridges.
• 26:32
Speaker 12: So that means all of us to be.
• 26:34
Speaker 10: Together and we're trying to use words without using the
• 26:37
Speaker 10: letter B and then if you use the word beat
• 26:40
Speaker 10: everybody just get the punch on you until you say
• 26:43
  Speaker 10: B B Bridges.
• 26:48
Speaker 1: That might be the second and stupidest thing I've heard.
• 26:52
Speaker 12: You said anything with it be in it, and you
• 26:55
Speaker 12: forgot that we were playing B B Bridges.
• 26:57
Speaker 7: Everybody, don't just wrap down?
• 27:04
Speaker 1: All right, man, you guys are crazy. Oh man, thanks
• 27:07
  Speaker 1: for telling.
• 27:09
Speaker 2: And like slug Bug, we used to play slug bug
• 27:11
Speaker 2: in the car, right, I don't think they play slug
• 27:13
Speaker 2: bug no more? All right, Michael Bean is here for
• 27:16
Speaker 2: the marriage in Family Center six seven fifty one hundred.
• 27:21
Speaker 1: That is the phone number.
• 27:22
Speaker 9: Good morning, Michael, Good morning.
• 27:25
  Speaker 1: How are you?
• 27:27
  Speaker 9: I think I'll make it? You know, I don't know.
• 27:30
Speaker 9: So many people have so much to complain about, and
• 27:32
Speaker 9: I just I just kind of don't. Thanks. Thanks, have
• 27:35
Speaker 9: settled into sort of a nice rhythm in life.
• 27:38
  Speaker 1: Well, if you're.
• 27:39
Speaker 2: Having a great, a great life, then I guess we
• 27:42
Speaker 2: don't have to worry about relationships anymore.
• 27:43
Speaker 9: Right, Well, I mean if I just want to only
• 27:47
Speaker 9: worry about myself. I also I really get a lot
• 27:52
Speaker 9: out of helping people with their relationships. After a few sessions,
• 27:56
Speaker 9: when you see this couple and they're just the shoulders
• 27:58
Speaker 9: aren't like up against their ears anymore as.
• 28:00
Speaker 7: They protect their next.
• 28:03
  Speaker 12: Attack.
• 28:04
Speaker 9: Or whatever, and you just see this relaxation, just see
• 28:07
Speaker 9: this easiness with each other that probably they once had,
• 28:12
Speaker 9: you know, but that rest intentions of it's just so rewarding.
• 28:15
Speaker 9: I just feel like that's where it's at.
• 28:18
Speaker 2: I want to ask you now, Michael, this is gonna
• 28:20
Speaker 2: kind of cross over a little bit into family stuff.
• 28:24
Speaker 2: But we're having a conversation I think we have yesterday
• 28:27
Speaker 2: or the day before about people hapen to balance their
• 28:32
Speaker 2: kids and their spouse. Yeah, somebody was asking me about it,
• 28:37
Speaker 2: you know who. But they put it in the terms
• 28:40
Speaker 2: of who should come first, which, when you look at that,
• 28:44
  Speaker 2: it's kind of a I don't know if you can
• 28:47
Speaker 2: say it like that, right, you have to everybody has
• 28:51
Speaker 2: to come first in some capacity when you're in a
• 28:53
Speaker 2: family unit like that, right, eating yourself?
• 28:57
Speaker 9: Well, I think when you hear that, a lot of
• 28:59
Speaker 9: times somebody is having a hard time getting their needs met,
• 29:02
Speaker 9: and so it starts to feel like, well, you know,
• 29:06
Speaker 9: it's not just do I come first or second or last,
• 29:09
  Speaker 9: it's do I ever get a chance? Am I ever?
• 29:12
Speaker 9: H you know, kind of on your radar type of thing,
• 29:15
Speaker 9: And that's the way it starts to feel, whether it's
• 29:17
Speaker 9: actually happening or that kind of doesn't matter because if
• 29:20
Speaker 9: you're going through that and that's your perception, then you're
• 29:22
Speaker 9: reacting to what it feels like it's happening.
• 29:24
Speaker 1: So what do we do about that?
• 29:28
  Speaker 9: I know, I know, it's a big question, and it
• 29:32
Speaker 9: depends on It depends on the couple, it depends on
• 29:34
Speaker 9: the situation. There are just too many variables. I can't
• 29:36
Speaker 9: give you an answer to that. But the kids coming
• 29:39
Speaker 9: along is the second major threat to a relationship. You
• 29:43
Speaker 9: know we talked about, Yeah, that whole honeymoon phase wearing
• 29:46
Speaker 9: off and you move into this different phase of like
• 29:49
Speaker 9: questioning and you're like, how do I fit in here?
• 29:51
Speaker 9: And is this love even real? Because I don't feel
• 29:54
Speaker 9: that same level of passion I want to. That's the
• 29:57
Speaker 9: first thing that challenges a relationship. Kids coming along is
• 30:00
Speaker 9: the next thing, and it's a big thing. A lot
• 30:02
Speaker 9: of relationships that fail will fail after the first kid
• 30:06
  Speaker 9: comes along.
• 30:07
Speaker 1: Well, when we look at we're adults, Michael, shouldn't.
• 30:10
Speaker 2: Adults be able to understand, Hey, we have this other
• 30:14
Speaker 2: being that we need to keep alive and make sure
• 30:17
Speaker 2: nothing bad happens to and love and protect and keep safe.
• 30:20
Speaker 2: Don't adults have to understand that, hey, we need to
• 30:24
Speaker 2: be an adult about this. I still love you, you still
• 30:26
Speaker 2: love me. You just have to focus our attention here
• 30:29
Speaker 2: for now. And but we don't want to take our
• 30:32
  Speaker 2: attention off.
• 30:32
  Speaker 1: Each other, right.
• 30:34
Speaker 9: I don't know where you get this idea that we're adults, my.
• 30:39
  Speaker 1: Man, You know.
• 30:41
Speaker 9: That I don't know that we ever grow out of
• 30:47
Speaker 9: these feelings of sort of like moodiness, a little bit
• 30:50
Speaker 9: of like occasional selfishness. We we just we do. We
• 30:54
Speaker 9: kind of feel like our world's falling apart. You watch
• 30:56
Speaker 9: a little toddler who you know suddenly doesn't learn in
• 31:01
Speaker 9: the car with them when they're leaving, just melt apart,
• 31:04
Speaker 9: like the whole world is over, and you're like, yeah,
• 31:07
Speaker 9: I could kind of relate to that. So I don't
• 31:12
Speaker 9: know that we ever really kind of lose that or
• 31:15
Speaker 9: kind of become these superhuman beings that can just set
• 31:19
Speaker 9: us out our feelings.
• 31:20
  Speaker 5: We can't.
• 31:20
Speaker 9: We just we just always carrying those emotions around with us.
• 31:24
Speaker 9: And when we feel like our world is being challenged
• 31:26
Speaker 9: or we're losing something, it can it can feel like
• 31:29
Speaker 9: it can just feel like a disaster.
• 31:31
Speaker 1: Have you ever met a.
• 31:32
Speaker 2: Couple, Michael, that are both just kind of selfless, not selfish,
• 31:37
Speaker 2: Just what kind of selfless?
• 31:38
Speaker 1: Oh I'm that really?
• 31:39
Speaker 2: Do actually feel like I'm okay with what you want
• 31:43
Speaker 2: to do because I just want to be with you
• 31:44
  Speaker 2: and vice versa?
• 31:47
Speaker 1: Well, I mean, or is that a realistic If they're.
• 31:50
Speaker 9: Both like that, they're probably not coming. It's only when
• 31:57
Speaker 9: one person is feeling like, you know, hey, I'm not
• 31:59
Speaker 9: going to my needs and met I'm trying. I'm given
• 32:03
Speaker 9: more than i'm receiving and it's not working for me.
• 32:06
Speaker 9: Someone's got will not be working for people before they
• 32:08
Speaker 9: start reaching out whenever.
• 32:11
Speaker 1: And we'll get to more of this in a minute.
• 32:13
Speaker 2: When everybody whenever, anybody says that to you, is that
• 32:17
Speaker 2: usually the truth? I Am not getting everything I want
• 32:21
Speaker 2: and it's all their fault.
• 32:23
Speaker 1: It's all your fault, not mine. Is that ever really
• 32:26
  Speaker 1: the truth?
• 32:28
Speaker 9: It's completely their truth. They have tried everything they know
• 32:35
Speaker 9: to do and it hasn't worked everything that they think
• 32:38
Speaker 9: should work, and even the things that totally makes sense
• 32:41
Speaker 9: to them, Oh you know what, that will probably work.
• 32:43
Speaker 9: I'll do that thing that I used to do back
• 32:45
Speaker 9: when things are good, and they'll get good again and
• 32:47
Speaker 9: then they don't. So yeah, from that person's perspective, it's
• 32:51
Speaker 9: exactly how it feels. I'm doing everything and it's just
• 32:56
  Speaker 9: it's not working.
• 32:57
  Speaker 7: All right.
• 32:57
Speaker 1: Michael Being is there for the Marrigan Family Center.
• 32:59
Speaker 2: I want to tell you, Michael, a little bit more
• 33:01
Speaker 2: about spouse's you know, husbands, wives, moms and dads, how
• 33:06
Speaker 2: how they should be dealing with each other in their
• 33:08
Speaker 2: relationship when kids are involved. So Michael Bean is here
• 33:11
Speaker 2: for the Marriage and Family Center. Good morning, Michael, Well,
• 33:14
Speaker 2: good morning, Okay six six one three two seven fifty
• 33:17
  Speaker 2: one hundred. That's Michael's number. There's a you know, follow
• 33:20
Speaker 2: the steps when you take the when you make the
• 33:22
Speaker 2: phone call, and you'll get through. Get through to him, Michael.
• 33:27
Speaker 2: Maturity having kids, everybody's getting their knees met or not
• 33:33
Speaker 2: because the kids are here.
• 33:35
Speaker 1: What are we supposed to do?
• 33:37
Speaker 9: I know we were talking off air, and you know,
• 33:39
Speaker 9: you were saying, you know, like.
• 33:43
Speaker 2: Me, yeah, I can't everybody just be mature like I am.
• 33:49
  Speaker 9: I really I don't know that it's I don't know
• 33:51
Speaker 9: that maturity is the best way to really look at it,
• 33:53
Speaker 9: because when you're not getting your needs met, you just
• 33:56
Speaker 9: you're not Okay, I don't any maturity, whatever maturity you're at.
• 34:00
Speaker 9: It's like almost like, man, I've been feeling these loving
• 34:06
Speaker 9: feelings from this person and now they're all just totally
• 34:10
Speaker 9: into this baby that came along, and I'm getting nothing,
• 34:14
Speaker 9: and I'm desperate. I'm just feeling really like it's almost
• 34:17
Speaker 9: like going without air, you know. And they're poling, they're
• 34:24
Speaker 9: holding some of the water and they're flailing. No fair
• 34:27
Speaker 9: saying to them, oh, be mature, what do you grow
• 34:30
  Speaker 9: up there?
• 34:31
Speaker 1: Is? Come on, Michael, we're adults.
• 34:34
Speaker 2: Adults should be under able to understand what is happening
• 34:38
Speaker 2: and how to not act like a child. I mean,
• 34:43
Speaker 2: I think I'm the last dude on the planet with
• 34:45
Speaker 2: common sense and maturity because it just the way you
• 34:49
Speaker 2: make that sound, Michael, it just makes it sound like
• 34:51
  Speaker 2: people are.
• 34:53
  Speaker 1: Childish.
• 34:55
Speaker 9: I guess on that level we kind of are. I
• 34:58
Speaker 9: guess maybe we need to be this part of us
• 35:00
Speaker 9: that keeps us alive, that is saying, hey, I need
• 35:03
Speaker 9: this thing that's not happening. I'm not getting this thing.
• 35:05
Speaker 9: I'm not okay, and I can't just like pretend like
• 35:09
Speaker 9: things are okay when I'm not getting my needs. Mad
• 35:12
Speaker 9: almost I don't know. I'm just like, it makes me
• 35:16
Speaker 9: wonder if you've ever had a significant period of time
• 35:19
Speaker 9: when you just haven't had those love needs, then you
• 35:21
Speaker 9: don't know what that heartache kind of No, why would you?
• 35:24
Speaker 1: Why why would you? First of all, first of all,
• 35:27
Speaker 1: why would you choose somebody that wouldn't do that?
• 35:29
Speaker 2: And second of all, why would you not have that
• 35:30
Speaker 2: conversation long before you even get into that position. Well, see,
• 35:35
Speaker 2: that's what mature, sensible people do. They have that conversation.
• 35:39
Speaker 2: What happens when kids come along? Oh, no, let's just
• 35:41
Speaker 2: wing it and then we'll I'll be and then we'll
• 35:43
Speaker 2: be mad at each other because I'm not getting what
• 35:45
Speaker 2: I want because this toddler needs what they need, and
• 35:48
Speaker 2: I'm being ignored by you.
• 35:50
Speaker 1: I'm not You're not being ignored.
• 35:51
Speaker 2: I mean, that's I guess this is where I say that, Michael,
• 35:54
Speaker 2: is the reason I say immature when we talk about
• 35:57
Speaker 2: maturity is I know you're not ignoring me because you
• 36:02
Speaker 2: don't love me anymore. You're ignoring me because this other
• 36:06
Speaker 2: thing that we brought into the world, as this human
• 36:08
Speaker 2: being we brought into the planet, needs you more than
• 36:10
  Speaker 2: I do.
• 36:13
Speaker 1: Does that make sense?
• 36:15
Speaker 9: I mean, okay, and and then what I just have
• 36:22
Speaker 9: to just check it up. I guess. I you know,
• 36:26
Speaker 9: you can have that conversation with somebody and very oft
• 36:28
Speaker 9: of the conversation goes something like, hey, I'm a little
• 36:31
Speaker 9: concerned about what's going to happen with us, and I had,
• 36:33
Speaker 9: you know, all the focuses on the baby. Sure, and
• 36:37
Speaker 9: and then the answer is, oh, we'll be fine. And
• 36:39
Speaker 9: that's kind of the conversation because nobody predicts these late
• 36:43
Speaker 9: nights where you didn't sleep a wink, and then during
• 36:46
Speaker 9: the day there's the fussing and the changing and the feeding,
• 36:49
Speaker 9: and then now I'm exhausted by the time I even
• 36:51
Speaker 9: see you. I just want to sleep. Could you please,
• 36:54
Speaker 9: babe this baby put the pajamas on and just let
• 36:56
Speaker 9: me take a break. Well, you know you're not You're
• 37:01
Speaker 9: not for seeing that, so you kind of can't have
• 37:03
Speaker 9: the conversation ahead of time.
• 37:05
  Speaker 1: Well, okay, I don't know. I just I don't I
• 37:09
Speaker 1: guess I don't see it. You were adults. I just
• 37:13
  Speaker 1: see adults.
• 37:13
Speaker 2: Seem to stop being childish, especially when it comes to
• 37:16
Speaker 2: serious situations in your life.
• 37:18
Speaker 1: You know, money problems.
• 37:20
Speaker 2: You said, you know what we say the first thing was, Michael,
• 37:23
  Speaker 2: other than kids?
• 37:24
  Speaker 7: Was it?
• 37:25
Speaker 2: What'd you say the first biggest issue was other than kids.
• 37:29
Speaker 9: That initial honeymoon, Pa, Oh.
• 37:30
Speaker 1: Yeah, that wears all.
• 37:32
Speaker 2: And now we're not getting everything we want every moment
• 37:35
Speaker 2: of the day, which okay, shouldn't you have gotten past
• 37:37
Speaker 2: that growing up as a kid? I mean you, you've
• 37:39
Speaker 2: even said it in the past, Michael. We teach kids
• 37:43
Speaker 2: to to what share and instead of just getting one
• 37:47
Speaker 2: for the you know, share your toy, No, let's just
• 37:49
Speaker 2: get another toy for the other kids.
• 37:51
Speaker 1: So every booth of the people have one.
• 37:53
Speaker 2: And shouldn't you learn that though as we get older
• 37:55
Speaker 2: that hey, it's you're gonna make some There's gonna be
• 37:59
Speaker 2: some changes in the if you're gonna have to change
• 38:01
Speaker 2: some of your Is it wrong to say change the
• 38:04
Speaker 2: way your needs are met or change your needs?
• 38:06
Speaker 1: Is that wrong? Is that just unreasonable?
• 38:09
  Speaker 9: No, it's reasonable. It's just harder than I think you're
• 38:12
Speaker 9: making it seem. I think for a lot of couples
• 38:16
Speaker 9: that is like this tangled web. And even if I
• 38:19
Speaker 9: try to reach in there to grab one of the
• 38:20
Speaker 9: little loose ends of the tangle, I kind of get
• 38:24
Speaker 9: my hand slapped. It feels like, oh, well, there's no
• 38:26
Speaker 9: way to kind of even approach this.
• 38:29
Speaker 1: People are too sensitive. That just too I don't I
• 38:34
Speaker 1: don't see them, Michael, My bad. I don't see it.
• 38:37
  Speaker 2: I just don't see somebody saying, hey, I can't do
• 38:40
Speaker 2: this right now because this is more important. So all
• 38:43
Speaker 2: of a sudden, I'm gonna be a drama queen and
• 38:44
Speaker 2: be upset about everything. You don't let me know more
• 38:46
  Speaker 2: my relationships over.
• 38:47
  Speaker 1: And this sucks.
• 38:48
Speaker 2: Of course it sucks, but hey, it is what it is.
• 38:51
Speaker 2: But does is that the reason to go it's all
• 38:53
  Speaker 2: over with.
• 38:55
Speaker 9: I don't know that people go it's all over with.
• 38:57
Speaker 9: I think they go, I'm missing you and miss us,
• 39:00
Speaker 9: and man, I think back about, you know, a year
• 39:03
Speaker 9: ago or something and how we were and now how
• 39:05
Speaker 9: we are now, and it's just this is such a
• 39:08
Speaker 9: different life than yeah, I even imagined.
• 39:12
Speaker 2: All right, all right, Michael Bean is here defending all
• 39:15
Speaker 2: you I don't know, soft insecure into adults, immature adults.
• 39:22
Speaker 1: All right, Michael hold on? All right, So Michael being
• 39:24
Speaker 1: is here. Good morning, Michael, good morning.
• 39:28
Speaker 2: Let me ask you this question when we talk about needs, Okay,
• 39:32
Speaker 2: and that's what we were talking about.
• 39:34
Speaker 1: Earlier. A couple they have, they have some kids, The
• 39:38
Speaker 1: kids needs need to be met.
• 39:40
Speaker 2: Husbands and wife needs needs husband and wife's needs need
• 39:44
  Speaker 2: to be met.
• 39:45
  Speaker 1: I'm assuming, I'm just guessing.
• 39:46
Speaker 2: I'm assuming the majority of families, the wife just turns
• 39:51
Speaker 2: into mother mode and her needs become irrelevant to her
• 39:55
Speaker 2: for the most part. And but the husband he doesn't
• 40:00
Speaker 2: change much. And so now he's over here being a
• 40:04
Speaker 2: child and his needs aren't being met. And you're telling
• 40:08
Speaker 2: and my theory as well. You know, it's only a
• 40:12
Speaker 2: few years of your life. You raise these kids and
• 40:14
Speaker 2: then you can get back to being you know who
• 40:17
  Speaker 2: you are.
• 40:17
Speaker 1: Is that really enough?
• 40:23
  Speaker 9: I don't think it's real. I don't think it's really
• 40:25
Speaker 9: I think the thing that you've left out is his needs.
• 40:29
Speaker 9: Like you said, she put hers on hold for a while.
• 40:32
Speaker 9: She's kind of like, you know, I don't know how
• 40:34
Speaker 9: to be Okay, I'm not getting enough sleep, I'm miserable,
• 40:38
Speaker 9: but this is part of being a mother, and I'm
• 40:39
Speaker 9: just going to wake up tomorrow and keep doing it.
• 40:42
Speaker 9: He on the other hand, is like, what has happened
• 40:45
Speaker 9: in my world? You know? Where did where did life go?
• 40:49
Speaker 9: What do I do? How do I fit in. Some
• 40:52
Speaker 9: couples they figure out how to kind of put their
• 40:54
Speaker 9: heads together and face the whole. Hey, children are here,
• 40:59
Speaker 9: let's move into parent mode together. Some couples kind of don't,
• 41:03
Speaker 9: and and some couples figure out, oh, you know what,
• 41:06
Speaker 9: we're gonna have to keep out relationship alive in the
• 41:09
Speaker 9: middle of all this. Somehow we're going to have to
• 41:12
Speaker 9: have mom take the kids for you know, a day
• 41:15
Speaker 9: or something, and or build up to that. At first,
• 41:18
Speaker 9: it's hard. New moms don't want to let go of their.
• 41:21
Speaker 1: Babies for a second, you know.
• 41:22
Speaker 9: But over time they can just graduate a little bit
• 41:25
Speaker 9: at a time. Okay, well we're just going to run
• 41:27
Speaker 9: to the store real quick, and then if you could
• 41:29
Speaker 9: just watch the kid, and then you can kind of
• 41:31
Speaker 9: just build up your own confidence in their ability to
• 41:35
Speaker 9: keep your kid alive.
• 41:36
  Speaker 7: You know.
• 41:37
Speaker 1: But yeah, all joking aside, Michael about this. Parents do
• 41:42
Speaker 1: have to figure it out.
• 41:43
Speaker 2: If they really love each other and they really want
• 41:46
Speaker 2: their relationship to work, you really cannot let your kids get.
• 41:51
  Speaker 1: In between it.
• 41:52
Speaker 2: And when I what I mean by that is moms
• 41:55
Speaker 2: can't go oh all like, all I got to do
• 41:57
Speaker 2: is focus on this, and I can't focus on you.
• 41:59
Speaker 2: Dad have to understand Hey, wait, I got to get
• 42:02
Speaker 2: involved in this so I can spend time with her
• 42:04
Speaker 2: as well as the kids, and we need to find some.
• 42:06
  Speaker 1: Sort of balance.
• 42:07
Speaker 2: Is that's the reality of it, right, if you really
• 42:10
Speaker 2: want to. Everybody just thinks it's going to all come together,
• 42:13
Speaker 2: happy family. But I don't know that that's the truth
• 42:16
Speaker 2: unless you really are focusing on I need to make
• 42:20
Speaker 2: sure her needs are met, his needs are met, and
• 42:23
Speaker 2: the kids needs are met all together.
• 42:25
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 42:25
Speaker 9: Yeah, you can't let your kids get between you. You
• 42:28
Speaker 9: can't let your new job get between you. You can't let
• 42:31
Speaker 9: your school get between you. Whatever is kind of going on,
• 42:34
Speaker 9: whatever your new pursuit is, can't take the place of
• 42:38
Speaker 9: the relationship without Like we've talked about putting your heads
• 42:43
Speaker 9: together and figuring out, okay, well, what's our plan moving forward?
• 42:47
Speaker 9: What is this going to look like in a way
• 42:48
Speaker 9: that we're both going to be okay with?
• 42:51
Speaker 1: But we don't have.
• 42:51
Speaker 2: Those conversations with each other, do we until we have
• 42:54
  Speaker 2: to call you?
• 42:55
Speaker 9: Like I said, a lot of times we try, but
• 42:58
Speaker 9: all that old baggage or bad relationship in the past,
• 43:00
Speaker 9: or even bad moments in our relationship, we come to
• 43:04
Speaker 9: the surface the minute we try to start, and then
• 43:06
Speaker 9: we get any kind of little negative feedback or whatever.
• 43:08
Speaker 9: It puts this kind of into this place of, oh,
• 43:11
Speaker 9: here we go again, I'm not going to even be
• 43:13
Speaker 9: listened to here, or I'm not being taken seriously, or
• 43:16
Speaker 9: I don't matter, or whatever else kind of goes on
• 43:19
Speaker 9: in our head that just completely disrupts the conversation. This
• 43:23
Speaker 9: is what we do with couples. We help them get
• 43:27
Speaker 9: past that moment and get back into the conversation in
• 43:30
Speaker 9: a way where there's mutual trust and respect. It's not easy.
• 43:34
Speaker 9: It isn't easy at all, but couples can overcome really
• 43:39
Speaker 9: bad habits of communication that have just made it impossible
• 43:43
Speaker 9: from to have that conversation, and now they can talk
• 43:46
Speaker 9: about anything. It's so freeing when you have a partner
• 43:50
Speaker 9: that you can bring up whatever's going on with you
• 43:52
Speaker 9: and it doesn't come into you know, World War three.
• 43:55
Speaker 1: People are so stupid, Michael.
• 43:57
Speaker 2: I mean, when that whole time you were just telling
• 43:59
Speaker 2: me about dealing with something, all I'm thinking about is, Okay,
• 44:02
Speaker 2: we got a new we got a new child. Don't
• 44:07
Speaker 2: a mature, intelligent individual like myself would go, look the
• 44:11
Speaker 2: dynamic has changed, So maybe I need to understand there
• 44:15
Speaker 2: might be some difficulties in communication right now. So I
• 44:18
Speaker 2: got to take that into consideration before you just fly.
• 44:21
  Speaker 1: Off the handle.
• 44:21
Speaker 2: I mean, you and I talked, Michael, and you call
• 44:23
Speaker 2: me and you you say, hey, I can come on
• 44:26
Speaker 2: tomorrow rom and talk. But I'm having this going on
• 44:28
Speaker 2: in my family right now. I might be a little this,
• 44:30
Speaker 2: or I might be a little sick because I got
• 44:32
Speaker 2: a cold. I will handle you in a different perspective
• 44:35
Speaker 2: because I understand at this moment you're going through something.
• 44:38
Speaker 2: Why are people so stupid that I don't know that
• 44:41
Speaker 2: with their own relationships.
• 44:46
  Speaker 5: I don't know why.
• 44:47
Speaker 9: We sort of regress to our most vulnerable state in
• 44:51
Speaker 9: the middle of our most significant relationships. But that's what happened,
• 44:59
Speaker 9: and that's what like, we go back to the worst
• 45:02
Speaker 9: moment in our lives the minute we get some pushback
• 45:06
Speaker 9: from somebody who matters that much to us. The truth is,
• 45:09
Speaker 9: it's a sign of a lot of caring and connection.
• 45:12
Speaker 9: When you talk about that kind of a response to somebody,
• 45:14
Speaker 9: you don't have that kind of response to somebody you
• 45:15
  Speaker 9: don't care about.
• 45:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I'm not going to argue with you.
• 45:18
Speaker 9: You just put him in their place. You just say whatever,
• 45:21
Speaker 9: chalk him up. You just kind of thrush your hands
• 45:23
Speaker 9: together and say whatever about somebody that you really care about. Hey,
• 45:28
Speaker 9: that's when your feelings get all in a yeah.
• 45:32
  Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
• 45:33
Speaker 2: Michael Venus here for the Marriage and Family Center six
• 45:35
Speaker 2: s one three to two seven fifty one hundred. Good morning, Michael,
• 45:40
Speaker 2: Good morning. I want to talk to you about cheating.
• 45:42
Speaker 2: I know we got a female rinas left. I want
• 45:44
Speaker 2: to talk to you about cheating for a second. We're
• 45:46
Speaker 2: having a conversation the other day about a guy who
• 45:48
Speaker 2: got cheated on by his wife because he was never around,
• 45:50
Speaker 2: too busy working, and he kind of took a little
• 45:53
Speaker 2: bit of accountability by saying, look, she's right if i'm
• 45:56
Speaker 2: you know so, uh, maybe that was the wake up
• 45:58
Speaker 2: call he needed, his word's not mine.
• 46:02
Speaker 1: And that their relationship should be better.
• 46:07
Speaker 2: I think the overwhelming thought with everybody was it's always
• 46:12
  Speaker 2: the cheater's.
• 46:13
Speaker 1: Fault, and where do you go from there? Why didn't
• 46:17
  Speaker 1: she just leave?
• 46:18
Speaker 2: Why did she have to do that something that was
• 46:20
Speaker 2: so detrimental to a relationship from the outside looking in?
• 46:23
Speaker 1: Right, So, what is your perspective on that.
• 46:26
Speaker 9: Michael, Well, there is a that's sort of almost a
• 46:31
Speaker 9: predictable pattern when things aren't going right in a relationship.
• 46:36
Speaker 9: When things start to not go well, then one or
• 46:40
Speaker 9: both partners will start to notice the other people in
• 46:43
Speaker 9: their lives. Ye notice coworkers, notice friends' exes, you know,
• 46:49
Speaker 9: start to come into their mind again, and gosh, that
• 46:53
Speaker 9: relationship when it was good, it was really good. Their
• 46:55
Speaker 9: mind goes back to and they sort of compare that
• 46:58
Speaker 9: to the stagnant or caustic relationship that they're in right now,
• 47:04
Speaker 9: and then their evaluation of their current relationship gets even worse.
• 47:07
Speaker 9: Oh my gosh, they're comparing it to this sort of
• 47:10
Speaker 9: fantasy relationship that they've already created with this other person.
• 47:14
Speaker 9: So there's this kind of mental avalanche that happens when
• 47:18
Speaker 9: things aren't going well in a relationship and your mind
• 47:21
Speaker 9: starts to turn to other people. That's the thing to
• 47:24
Speaker 9: really kind of guard yourself against against that. You know, Hey,
• 47:28
Speaker 9: the grass is greener over the fence, kind of thinking that,
• 47:30
Speaker 9: instead of trying to take care of my own lawn,
• 47:35
Speaker 9: look at how green my neighbor's lawn is and focus
• 47:39
Speaker 9: on that. That's what starts really getting us into trouble.
• 47:42
Speaker 9: But I don't know how much of that was going on. Again,
• 47:45
Speaker 9: this is not somebody I've ever even talked.
• 47:47
Speaker 2: Of, so I don't know the details in this hypothetical scenario.
• 47:54
Speaker 2: Is it easier for somebody to go that route than
• 47:57
Speaker 2: it is to go the wait? Let me try to
• 47:59
Speaker 2: fix it out with my partner, with my spouse, is it?
• 48:03
  Speaker 1: Do we do?
• 48:04
Speaker 2: Human beings tend to try to take the easier route,
• 48:07
Speaker 2: even though long term it could be harder.
• 48:10
Speaker 9: Well, we again, we we think we've already done everything
• 48:14
Speaker 9: we know to try to fix it and it didn't work.
• 48:17
Speaker 9: We think that all the avenues of even try to
• 48:20
Speaker 9: approach it with the person aren't working. They're just not
• 48:22
Speaker 9: open or receptive to trying that. In our mind, we're
• 48:26
Speaker 9: just convinced that they said no, I don't want to
• 48:29
Speaker 9: talk about it, and so that means we don't get
• 48:32
Speaker 9: to ever talk about it. So the discussion's over. So
• 48:35
Speaker 9: it kind of I don't think people sort of move
• 48:39
Speaker 9: on from the relationship that they feel like there's hope for.
• 48:42
Speaker 9: I think people get discouraged first and they feel like, oh,
• 48:46
Speaker 9: there's there's no hope here, so I'll look for hope
• 48:49
  Speaker 9: somewhere else do.
• 48:53
Speaker 2: Oh, I just now that you said that, I totally
• 48:55
Speaker 2: lost my train of thought about it. When it comes
• 48:58
Speaker 2: to cheating, we always say everybody from the outside looking
• 49:06
Speaker 2: in always says, well, just leave, just leave, just le
• 49:09
Speaker 2: What I mean, it's obviously easy for you and I
• 49:12
Speaker 2: to say that, Well, not you, because you're in the
• 49:14
Speaker 2: in the business, but it's obviously easy for me or
• 49:16
Speaker 2: anybody else who's not emotionally tied to that relationship to
• 49:20
  Speaker 2: go just leave.
• 49:20
Speaker 1: Why didn't you just leave?
• 49:22
  Speaker 3: Why?
• 49:23
Speaker 1: Why is it so difficult because of our emotional ties
• 49:25
Speaker 1: to this person or the change or what.
• 49:28
Speaker 9: Yeah, And quite frankly, I think that a lot of
• 49:31
Speaker 9: people sort of realize that, uh, cheating is sort of
• 49:36
Speaker 9: a reality. You know, They've done research to show that
• 49:41
Speaker 9: a lot of people cheat. This is not an exception
• 49:44
Speaker 9: kind of a thing. This is a lot of that
• 49:46
Speaker 9: humans kind of tend to do. And so I think
• 49:49
Speaker 9: deep down when people kind of realize, you know, if
• 49:51
Speaker 9: I had been in that situation, maybe even I would
• 49:54
Speaker 9: have done the same thing. And when you kind of
• 49:56
Speaker 9: have that perspective, then it's kind of like, well, well,
• 49:58
Speaker 9: why do I want to just from in something? Just
• 50:01
Speaker 9: because they did something human.
• 50:05
Speaker 2: And one last thing, Abatael before I get you out
• 50:06
Speaker 2: of here, about that when we've always had this conversation,
• 50:09
Speaker 2: at least, I've always believed anything you do and I
• 50:12
Speaker 2: think you believe it too.
• 50:13
Speaker 1: Anything you do behind your spouse's back is cheating.
• 50:16
Speaker 2: And you have these emotional conversations at work with coworkers,
• 50:21
Speaker 2: and they that your whiye or your husband would be
• 50:25
Speaker 2: devastated to hear that you're talking about with coworkers or
• 50:30
  Speaker 2: other people.
• 50:31
Speaker 1: And a lot of people.
• 50:33
Speaker 2: Think that that could be worse than just having sex
• 50:38
Speaker 2: with somebody because you're lonely or because you know and
• 50:41
  Speaker 2: I don't. I mean, that's for everybody else to decide
• 50:44
Speaker 2: on how they feel about it.
• 50:45
Speaker 1: But there are a lot of ways.
• 50:47
Speaker 2: To I think cheating is very kind of one of
• 50:50
Speaker 2: the some of the one of the worst things you
• 50:51
Speaker 2: can do to somebody because it really does break trust.
• 50:55
Speaker 1: And respect. So but do you But can people overcome it?
• 51:03
Speaker 9: Gosh, not so hard because you've already kind of set
• 51:06
Speaker 9: up a scenario where somebody's hiding something from that person,
• 51:10
Speaker 9: so that already tells you that they don't have trust.
• 51:13
Speaker 9: That the relationship could kind of handle that truth or
• 51:17
Speaker 9: that openness or whatever. That's the very relationship that maybe
• 51:22
Speaker 9: couldn't handle it to one where you're keeping secrets, the
• 51:24
Speaker 9: one where you're kind of trying to do something. I'm
• 51:26
Speaker 9: hoping they don't find out. We're already saying something about
• 51:29
Speaker 9: the strength of that relationship. Aren't you kind of saying
• 51:32
Speaker 9: this is not something that I could bring to the table,
• 51:34
Speaker 9: this level of unhappiness, or that my thoughts or feelings
• 51:38
Speaker 9: are kind of starting to wander, are starting to have
• 51:42
Speaker 9: thoughts about other people. If you can't say that to
• 51:44
Speaker 9: your partner and have that relationship absorb the threat of that,
• 51:50
Speaker 9: then how much relationship do you really have there?
• 51:52
  Speaker 1: Yeah?
• 51:53
Speaker 2: All right, Michael, Now that we brought everybody down, or
• 51:55
Speaker 2: I guess I brought everybody down because I brought it down,
• 52:00
Speaker 2: I'll talk to you next week, Michael being six six
• 52:03
Speaker 2: one three two seven fifty one hundred right, Okay, that's right,
• 52:10
Speaker 2: and maybe next week we'll talk about something fun. Let's
• 52:14
Speaker 2: talk about hotels and airbnbs and verbos and all the
• 52:17
Speaker 2: places that you stay nowadays. Now, I have never a
• 52:22
Speaker 2: lot of you guys are going on vacation. Some of
• 52:24
Speaker 2: you guys are going on vacation for a week's at
• 52:26
Speaker 2: a time, I've stayed in an Airbnb. I go to
• 52:30
Speaker 2: hotels whenever I stay out of town. I've never stayed
• 52:32
Speaker 2: at Airbnb, even if I'm staying longer than I don't know.
• 52:35
  Speaker 1: Maybe they're cheaper.
• 52:36
Speaker 2: I have no idea, but all of the negative things
• 52:39
Speaker 2: I've heard about airbnbs over the years makes me not
• 52:43
Speaker 2: want to go in. And I could be wrong about it,
• 52:45
Speaker 2: but you know that's where I'm at right now. I
• 52:47
Speaker 2: do want to ask you this. You ever had a
• 52:50
Speaker 2: bad hotel stay, a bad Airbnb stay? And the reason
• 52:55
Speaker 2: I say that is because when it comes to the internet,
• 52:59
Speaker 2: they can make anything good. They can doctor up any
• 53:02
Speaker 2: pictures you go online. You're trying to find something, and
• 53:06
Speaker 2: I'll tell you why. And this has nothing. The house
• 53:09
Speaker 2: could be great. I have no idea. I've never been
• 53:11
Speaker 2: in it. But a few years ago, I was driving
• 53:14
Speaker 2: over this overpass here, you know the Truckston Avenue. That
• 53:17
Speaker 2: overpass that when you get past the library, there's an
• 53:22
Speaker 2: overpass right goes over the train. I think it's a train,
• 53:25
Speaker 2: or yeah, I think it's the train. Well, right on
• 53:28
Speaker 2: a street next to that overpass, somebody put an Airbnb. Now,
• 53:34
  Speaker 2: I don't know if it's still there. I just remember
• 53:36
Speaker 2: driving by and seeing the sign that's an Airbnb. And
• 53:39
Speaker 2: the reason I said is because we live in Bakersfield,
• 53:41
Speaker 2: we know what part of the city that is. We
• 53:44
Speaker 2: know and the house could have been great, it could
• 53:45
  Speaker 2: have been beautiful.
• 53:46
Speaker 1: I have no idea.
• 53:47
Speaker 2: But somebody coming out of town can go to that
• 53:51
Speaker 2: and not know where they're staying, and it'd be a
• 53:55
Speaker 2: totally different perspective for them. They could have thought they
• 53:58
Speaker 2: were getting this beautiful place because of the pictures, and
• 54:01
Speaker 2: this an amazing part of town, and that's what you get.
• 54:05
Speaker 2: And like I said, once again, I have no idea
• 54:07
Speaker 2: if it's still an Airbnb, I have no idea if
• 54:10
  Speaker 2: it's a if it's beautiful inside or not. All I'm
• 54:16
Speaker 2: saying is you never know what you're getting till you
• 54:19
  Speaker 2: get there, right.
• 54:22
  Speaker 1: Already?
• 54:22
Speaker 2: Four two five, four seven seven. I mean the same
• 54:26
Speaker 2: thing happened. Yeah, when you travel anywhere, you just never know.
• 54:30
Speaker 2: So you ever had a what happened? You ever get
• 54:32
Speaker 2: a bad spot, you ever go on vacation, you ever
• 54:35
Speaker 2: stay somewhere and you're like, oh my god, this is
• 54:37
Speaker 2: where we're at. You ever have a hotel horror story? Yeah,
• 54:40
Speaker 2: we're talking about hotels, maybe about airbnbs.
• 54:43
Speaker 1: You ever have a horror story or what? Good morning?
• 54:45
  Speaker 9: Hell?
• 54:45
  Speaker 1: What's going on?
• 54:47
  Speaker 12: What's going on?
• 54:48
  Speaker 7: Romeo?
• 54:48
Speaker 12: Yeah, I was just hearing a thing about getting a
• 54:51
Speaker 12: bad place to stay at. It's a story not me personally,
• 54:55
Speaker 12: but I was driving uber in San Diego, and you know,
• 54:59
Speaker 12: I picked up a couple from the airport and I
• 55:02
Speaker 12: was taking them to their destination. As we got off
• 55:05
Speaker 12: the freeway, I mean it's basically that area was just
• 55:08
Speaker 12: pobeless town, you know. And you know, I looked at
• 55:13
Speaker 12: him like, hey, everything okay. You know, they look kind
• 55:15
Speaker 12: of shocked and looking around outside the window, and they're like, no,
• 55:19
Speaker 12: we just bought you know, a place here, one of
• 55:22
Speaker 12: the high rises, New high Rises, and the high rise
• 55:26
Speaker 12: is beautiful. It's just the area they were buying it
• 55:28
Speaker 12: at was not good.
• 55:29
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 55:30
Speaker 12: And they yeah, they were coming from Texas. They bought
• 55:33
Speaker 12: it online, never visited the place, nothing, so they didn't
• 55:36
Speaker 12: know what was around there. So I got off the
• 55:40
  Speaker 12: freeway and I'm.
• 55:40
Speaker 1: Like, oh, man, Like I said, man.
• 55:45
Speaker 12: Yeah, it was right across the street from Petco Park
• 55:47
  Speaker 12: and everything.
• 55:48
Speaker 2: But yeah, oh, I lost them all right inporteen five, four, seven,
• 55:53
  Speaker 2: and seventh.
• 55:54
Speaker 1: That mean it might be a nice area.
• 55:56
  Speaker 3: Now.
• 55:56
Speaker 1: I know they ran.
• 55:58
Speaker 2: I know there were a lot of homeless there now,
• 55:59
Speaker 2: but I think they got them out recently, the last
• 56:02
Speaker 2: few years already four two, five, four or seven seven.
• 56:05
Speaker 2: I mean, that's a whole other conversation. Purchasing something online.
• 56:08
Speaker 2: You don't know what you're gonna get. Hey, rome let
• 56:11
Speaker 2: me tell you about a hotel that I stayed at.
• 56:13
Speaker 2: Now this is not a horror story, but my wife
• 56:17
Speaker 2: and I were at a hotel over at Pismo and
• 56:22
Speaker 2: she jumped in the shower. I was putting things away
• 56:25
Speaker 2: the top drawer of one of the dressers. I found
• 56:28
Speaker 2: nude photos of some woman what looked to be in
• 56:32
Speaker 2: the hotel on the bed in the shower.
• 56:37
Speaker 1: Romeo, And there must have been a whole stack of them.
• 56:39
Speaker 2: Whoever must have stayed there before had left them, and
• 56:43
Speaker 2: I showed my wife.
• 56:44
Speaker 1: We got a big kick out of it.
• 56:46
Speaker 2: Oh well, here's my question. By the way, I got
• 56:52
Speaker 2: a couple of questions with that story. One that's crazy,
• 56:54
Speaker 2: and that's funny that somebody left their nude photos, because
• 56:57
Speaker 2: you never know what goes down in a hotel room.
• 57:00
Speaker 2: The second thing is was the room cleaned? Because why
• 57:02
Speaker 2: didn't the cleaning person find those photos when they cleaned
• 57:06
Speaker 2: the room. I'm just saying, although I will tell you this,
• 57:10
Speaker 2: I found a knife one time at Aria. I'm staying
• 57:13
Speaker 2: at Ario. One time I found a knife. And that's
• 57:17
Speaker 2: a whole nother thing. Man, what goes on? You never
• 57:20
Speaker 2: know what goes on in the room before you got there,
• 57:23
Speaker 2: right alrighty four two, five, four, seven to seven.
• 57:27
Speaker 1: So what do you got?
• 57:27
Speaker 2: You got a hotel horset or maybe you found something
• 57:30
Speaker 2: in a hotel. They always say check the Bible. There
• 57:33
Speaker 2: might be money in it more than how what's going on?
• 57:35
  Speaker 7: Throw me on?
• 57:37
  Speaker 6: Hey what up?
• 57:37
  Speaker 5: Brother?
• 57:38
Speaker 7: So check it out?
• 57:39
Speaker 10: And my lady we first got together, you know, that

Speaker 2: back to the front desk.
• 59:12
  Speaker 9: But it.
• 59:16
  Speaker 10: Happened.
• 59:17
Speaker 2: It probably happens more often than you think.
• 59:24
Speaker 1: That's hilarious. That's funny, all right, my man, Thanks for calling.
• 59:29
Speaker 2: I mean, hotels are you know their community property, right,
• 59:33
Speaker 2: Sometimes you show up and find something, People leave stuff behind.

Speaker 11: like I picked the wrong motel and now lay story.
• 1:00:05
Speaker 11: This is crazy. One day a couple of years ago,
• 1:00:08
Speaker 11: we went to the beach from my husband's birthday.
• 1:00:10
  Speaker 8: For the weekend.
• 1:00:11
Speaker 11: Okay, we're there, we get the room. I tell my husband, hey,
• 1:00:14
Speaker 11: let's go down the street right here to this little
• 1:00:16
Speaker 11: store like the liquor store to buy snacks for the
• 1:00:18
Speaker 11: room kids. It was my mom, my brother with us. Check.

Speaker 11: As soon as my husband gets off the store, walks
• 1:00:23
Speaker 11: in the store, we hear gunshots. So my husband's walking
• 1:00:29
Speaker 11: awkquol and I was like, hurry up. He was like
• 1:00:31
Speaker 11: what they were just shooting guns right now? We were
• 1:00:33
Speaker 11: in Inglewood talking about this. I ended up finding out
• 1:00:36
Speaker 11: we were in Inglewood. What the hotel we go to?
• 1:00:40
Speaker 11: Because my brother goes, oh, yeah, I know where there's
• 1:00:41
Speaker 11: a cool motel. It's the motel SICS. So we get there.
• 1:00:45
Speaker 11: Oh my god, it was like the plugs house, like literally,
• 1:00:50
Speaker 11: like you know, something was going on there. There was pimping,
• 1:00:53
Speaker 11: there was hose, they were selling weed and all kinds
• 1:00:56
Speaker 11: of like what there. I told my brother, like, so
• 1:00:59
Speaker 11: we end up getting the room anyways? Oh my god.
• 1:01:02
Speaker 11: We could just hear people coming in and out all.
• 1:01:04
Speaker 1: Night, but you still end up getting the room.
• 1:01:08
Speaker 11: Yeah yeah, because it's like we didn't do we didn't
• 1:01:11
Speaker 11: feel we were like not unsafe, you know what I mean.
• 1:01:13
Speaker 11: It was just like oh wow, I mean they're pimping
• 1:01:15
Speaker 11: and pimping and holes around here to be like who cares?
• 1:01:18
Speaker 7: Like we've seen a lot of stuff.
• 1:01:19
Speaker 11: And then like, well, you know, my brother smokes a
• 1:01:21
Speaker 11: little bit weed whatever, you know what I mean. Somebody
• 1:01:23
Speaker 11: I was like, oh, go get your weed downstairs.
• 1:01:26
Speaker 2: So we had you are, aren't you from Delano anyway?
• 1:01:30
Speaker 1: So you're used to it?
• 1:01:32
Speaker 11: Well yeah no, And then you were going to check out.
• 1:01:36
Speaker 11: I could hear arguing, and I knew my brother was
• 1:01:38
Speaker 11: gonna go, like go smoke somebody whatever else. I so
• 1:01:41
Speaker 11: I can hear art. You want to look out the
• 1:01:43
Speaker 11: window a lady arguing with like somebody in a car
• 1:01:46
Speaker 11: she throws the soup on the car over you nap.
• 1:01:50
Speaker 1: Sounds like a great time for the kids, all right, Yeah.
• 1:01:54
Speaker 11: But I was just like, oh my god, I cannot
• 1:01:56
Speaker 11: believe we ranted this hotel room.
• 1:01:58
Speaker 1: How long did you stay there?
• 1:02:01
  Speaker 5: For? Two days?
• 1:02:02
Speaker 1: Oh my god? All right, thanks for calling. I'd a left.
• 1:02:08
Speaker 2: I'm trying to think if I ever left a hotel room,
• 1:02:11
Speaker 2: if I ever walked, if I ever it was so
• 1:02:14
Speaker 2: bad that I went somewhere else, I don't think, so,
• 1:02:17
Speaker 2: I don't know. Already fourteen pot four or seven to
• 1:02:20
Speaker 2: seven talking about those hotel horror stories. You know, hotels
• 1:02:23
Speaker 2: you've rented, you didn't know what you were getting into, or.
• 1:02:25
Speaker 1: Maybe you found something in a hotel. Something was going on.
• 1:02:28
Speaker 2: I mean I found stuff, right, yo, Rome, We stayed
• 1:02:32
Speaker 2: at a hotel this one time, and the night before
• 1:02:34
Speaker 2: an event, and we didn't get home till late.
• 1:02:37
Speaker 1: So we were we were crashing in.
• 1:02:41
Speaker 2: We were crashing in, and the cleaning lady knocked on
• 1:02:44
Speaker 2: the door about eight in the morning, asking if we
• 1:02:47
Speaker 2: wanted room service. We had to sign out on the
• 1:02:49
Speaker 2: door saying do not disturb. So the entire the entire
• 1:02:52
Speaker 2: time around. We were like, no, we're still sleeping to you.
• 1:02:57
Speaker 2: Not even thirty minutes later, she came back and knocked
• 1:03:00
Speaker 2: on the door again. At this point, yes, we were
• 1:03:03
Speaker 2: upset and I had a few words with her that
• 1:03:07
Speaker 2: we were that were not pleasant. When we checked out,
• 1:03:09
Speaker 2: we told the front desk about it, and they told
• 1:03:12
Speaker 2: us we weren't the only people to complain about this
• 1:03:15
Speaker 2: lady that day. I don't know if it was the
• 1:03:18
Speaker 2: end of her shift or what, but she definitely wanted
• 1:03:20
Speaker 2: to clean these rooms. They just for one night, though.
• 1:03:24
Speaker 2: Oh that's kind of cool. Though, at least they comped
• 1:03:26
Speaker 2: you for the night right already four two pop four
• 1:03:31
Speaker 2: seven seven. Gosh, I'm trying to think of some of
• 1:03:34
Speaker 2: the crazy things at the hotels. Already four two pop
• 1:03:38
Speaker 2: four seven to seven Yil Romeo. I took the family
• 1:03:45
Speaker 2: down to San Diego for a few days last summer, me,
• 1:03:49
Speaker 2: my wife, and our three kids between seven and sixteen.
• 1:03:56
Speaker 2: Turns out the hotel had a bunch of swingers staying
• 1:04:00
  Speaker 2: at it.
• 1:04:00
Speaker 1: I had no idea.
• 1:04:02
Speaker 2: I don't know if it was a convention or what
• 1:04:04
Speaker 2: was going on. They all just decided to stay at
• 1:04:07
Speaker 2: the same hotel. Me and my family were at It
• 1:04:10
Speaker 2: was an eye opening experience, let me tell you.
• 1:04:13
  Speaker 1: For the kids.
• 1:04:14
Speaker 2: Well, that's the other thing. You never know who stayed
• 1:04:17
Speaker 2: at the hotel the same as you are, right. I
• 1:04:20
Speaker 2: was at a hotel one time. I stayed at what
• 1:04:22
Speaker 2: was I Avela? It might have been a Aveala beach
• 1:04:25
Speaker 2: suitets or Avela beach something. Right across from the beach
• 1:04:28
Speaker 2: there was an Avala, Yeah, I think it was Avela.
• 1:04:32
Speaker 2: And the guy next to me, the guy next to
• 1:04:35
Speaker 2: me was with his new girlfriend who he was cheating
• 1:04:40
Speaker 2: on his wife with the wife just happened to show
• 1:04:47
Speaker 2: up with her new boyfriend the same weekend. So yeah,
• 1:04:53
Speaker 2: it was kind of awkward. And I wouldn't even Hey,
• 1:04:56
Speaker 2: they weren't even friends of mine. They were from up north.
• 1:04:59
Speaker 2: But apparently the four of them showed up not knowing
• 1:05:04
Speaker 2: that the other was going to be there.
• 1:05:06
Speaker 1: And yeah, it was kind of funny, to be honest
• 1:05:08
  Speaker 1: with you.
• 1:05:09
Speaker 2: Already four two, five, fours, seven to seven, we're talking
• 1:05:13

• 1:05:22
Speaker 2: Rome? I used to stay at the cheap hotels to
• 1:05:24
Speaker 2: save money when I would travel. Now that I have
• 1:05:26
Speaker 2: a career where I get called to these cheap where
• 1:05:30
Speaker 2: I get called to these cheap hotels, I definitely spending
• 1:05:34
Speaker 2: the extra money for something way better, if only you knew. Well,
• 1:05:38
Speaker 2: that's what we're trying to know, is we're trying to know.
• 1:05:41
Speaker 2: Why aren't you telling us what's happening already? Four two
• 1:05:45
Speaker 2: five fours seven to seven. Hey, Rome, earlier you were
• 1:05:49
Speaker 2: talking about things that happened in hotel rooms before you
• 1:05:52
  Speaker 2: get there.
• 1:05:53
Speaker 1: I used to work at a hotel.
• 1:05:55
Speaker 2: You have no idea how many people have died while
• 1:06:00
  Speaker 2: at hotels.
• 1:06:02
Speaker 1: You never know if you're staying in a room that
• 1:06:04
Speaker 1: somebody died last in or not well fair enough.
• 1:06:11
Speaker 2: I did well, okay, I mean that's uh, that's insane, right,
• 1:06:18
Speaker 2: You just never know. It's funny how we stay at hotels,
• 1:06:21
Speaker 2: no matter how clean, I mean, no matter how expensive
• 1:06:23
Speaker 2: or how cheap, you just never know what's going on
• 1:06:28
Speaker 2: before you got there. You have no idea. It's unless
• 1:06:32
Speaker 2: you find something that shows you know.
• 1:06:35
  Speaker 1: Alrighty four two.
• 1:06:36
Speaker 2: Five four seven to seven, you got a crazy hotel story.
• 1:06:40

Speaker 1: Hotels airbnbs. What have you found? What have you seen?
• 1:06:46
Speaker 1: Were they good? Were they bad? What happened?
• 1:06:49
Speaker 2: Everybody, I think has an experience, especially when you go
• 1:06:52
Speaker 2: out of town, right and you don't know what part
• 1:06:55
Speaker 2: of town you're staying in.
• 1:06:56
Speaker 1: You don't know. They make them all look good, right.
• 1:06:58
Speaker 1: You don't know the city you're going to.
• 1:07:00
Speaker 2: You don't know where the if the hotel you're going
• 1:07:02
Speaker 2: to or the airbnb you're going to is in a
• 1:07:04
  Speaker 2: safe neighborhood.

Speaker 1: You just you don't know already four two five, four
• 1:07:08
Speaker 1: seven to seven yo.
• 1:07:10
  Speaker 7: Rome.

• 1:07:14
Speaker 2: get some there are two hotels downtown you can go
• 1:07:17
Speaker 2: to just hang out at the bar. Bakersfield. People don't
• 1:07:23
Speaker 2: understand how many women are in town for work. Here
• 1:07:28
Speaker 2: in Bakersfield. I always find some woman who's in town
• 1:07:33
Speaker 2: for work sitting at the bar and she's ready to
• 1:07:37
Speaker 2: go back up to her room.
• 1:07:42
Speaker 1: You know what's messed up is I actually know a guy.
• 1:07:45
  Speaker 2: I don't know if he's listening right now, but I
• 1:07:47
Speaker 2: know a guy and I know what you're talking about
• 1:07:49
Speaker 2: because I know a guy who we were going somewhere.
• 1:07:53
Speaker 1: We were all going to a concert or we were.
• 1:07:55

• 1:07:57
Speaker 2: been a concert and uh we all went to the bar,

Speaker 2: met a woman who was in town on business, went
• 1:08:08
Speaker 2: to the concert with us. He said, I'll see you
• 1:08:10
Speaker 2: guys later. If we saw him the next day, you
• 1:08:14

• 1:08:21
Speaker 2: a hotel bar in town on business and they don't
• 1:08:25
Speaker 2: even they could be married, and they're still ready to
• 1:08:27
Speaker 2: get down with you.

• 1:10:04
Speaker 7: They're having drama with the dude. And I'm like, who
• 1:10:06

• 1:11:02
Speaker 2: putting airbnbs in neighborhoods, they're not even houses that they
• 1:11:05
Speaker 2: live in. They're just buying houses in these nice neighborhoods,

Speaker 2: and they're putting be's in them, and the neighbors are
• 1:11:12
Speaker 2: getting pissed. I have heard that before, all right, importin
