- 0:01Speaker 1: It was brush side up, so it should be okay
- 0:03Speaker 1: to brush my hair.
- 0:04Speaker 2: You've lost your brush under the bed.
- 0:05Speaker 3: It was scary.
- 0:06Speaker 1: The monsters might have been using it. The dead hookers
- 0:08Speaker 1: might have been brushing their hair.
- 0:09Speaker 2: That is where I keep the dead hooker in my
- 0:11Speaker 2: hotel room.
- 0:11Speaker 1: It's too fancy a hotel to have dead hookers.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Damn it.
- 0:15Speaker 1: They say that for Gary, Indiana.
- 0:18Speaker 2: That's true, actually. It's a sad part.

- 1:24Speaker 2: Provide more cooling in the containment chamber.
- 1:26Speaker 8: To your stations, we have a movie meltdown.
- 1:29Speaker 9: My dick looks like a corn dog. I got cake
- 1:31Speaker 9: all over my ball.
- 1:36Speaker 2: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I am Misty.
- 1:40Speaker 10: I'm Jay.
- 1:41Speaker 11: And we are hanging around the hotel room this morning.
- 1:44Speaker 11: We're back another week in Chicago here. Not really a
- 1:47Speaker 11: week for us, but for you guys, it's another week
- 1:50Speaker 11: in Chicago.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Long time in Chicago.
- 1:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It'd be fine if I had this hotel room. The
- 1:56Speaker 2: bathroom's clean. I kind of liked it. $ 180.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I didn't think I.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Could pay for it. I can't pay for this one, but...
- 2:03Speaker 2: Worth it?
- 2:04Speaker 11: If you just lived in the hotel room for weeks
- 2:06Speaker 11: on end. Some people have that extravagant lifestyle. We aren't
- 2:10Speaker 11: quite the high rollers here at Movie Mountain Town.
- 2:12Speaker 12: We get the one-nighters.
- 2:14Speaker 11: We're lucky to get the one-nighters with Dead Hookers. Anyway, so, Misty,
- 2:20Speaker 11: I think when I woke up, I looked over, I
- 2:22Speaker 11: think you were cuddling with your picture of Noah Hathaway.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I was looking at, I was noticing the fact that
- 2:27Speaker 1: he messed up spelling the. He didn't really mess it up,
- 2:30Speaker 1: he just crossed the wrong letter. He crossed his H
- 2:33Speaker 1: instead of his T. I'm trying to figure out how to,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I think this is a Treyu, but to me it
- 2:38Speaker 1: looks like a Tuya.
- 2:40Speaker 9: I'm not really sure.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Or a Stewie?
- 2:44Speaker 11: If you were there last week, yeah, her autographed picture
- 2:46Speaker 11: of Noah Hathaway from NeverEnding Story.
- 2:48Speaker 1: It doesn't look like a treu. What the hell?
- 2:53Speaker 13: That looks like an M-U-U-Y-S.
- 2:59Speaker 10: With a crossed M.
- 3:00Speaker 2: He's a treu. He can spell however he wants. He's
- 3:03Speaker 2: creating his own damn universe.
- 3:04Speaker 1: He crosses his H instead of his T. I want
- 3:06Speaker 1: to start doing that.
- 3:06Speaker 2: He crosses his M, too. Oh, Lord.
- 3:11Speaker 1: But you wrote my name nice. On my shiny picture.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Noah is cool.
- 3:17Speaker 11: So, we've been hanging around watching bad music videos most
- 3:21Speaker 11: of the morning. Do you have your favorites you'd like
- 3:24Speaker 11: to run down?
- 3:25Speaker 1: I love the Lady Gaga song. The new one. What's
- 3:29Speaker 1: it called again?
- 3:29Speaker 2: Judas.
- 3:30Speaker 1: No, the new one.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Not that one.
- 3:31Speaker 12: Which one?
- 3:33Speaker 2: The dance one? Yeah. Yeah. The one with just all.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Is it called Let's Dance? No, not that one. Just Dance? No,
- 3:40Speaker 1: that's an old one.
- 3:41Speaker 10: It's like, I don't know.
- 3:42Speaker 6: Edge of.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Edge of Glory.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Edge of Glory.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Glory, Midnight, Days of Glory.
- 3:47Speaker 1: And then we made Brian and Natasha watch the Judas and.
- 3:53Speaker 1: The Lady Gaga, Judas, and Judas Priest mashup, which is
- 3:56Speaker 1: fucking phenomenal. I don't care.
- 3:58Speaker 2: It is frightening how well those two go together. We
- 4:01Speaker 2: should look that shit up.
- 4:02Speaker 11: The more I watched, I was like, ah, I can
- 4:04Speaker 11: see those guys all hanging out together. Their music is
- 4:07Speaker 11: kind of different, but, you know, I can see them
- 4:09Speaker 11: all kind of hanging out together.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Totally. Lady Gaga hanging out with Rob.
- 4:13Speaker 13: There were Lady Gagas at the show.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I should go ask Norman Reedus if he's heard the mashup.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I bet he would like it. I had a dream
- 4:19Speaker 1: last night that he died. I should go check on him.
- 4:21Speaker 2: You should check on him. You should go back over there.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I was horrified. It was a very traumatizing dream.
- 4:25Speaker 11: You should go up and tell him that you're good in.
- 4:27Speaker 11: I'm just making sure you're okay. I had a dream
- 4:29Speaker 11: that he died. That won't frighten him at all.
- 4:33Speaker 1: That won't get security called on me, not even a
- 4:35Speaker 1: little bit.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Not at all. So, any other morning wrap-ups? What was
- 4:41Speaker 2: your favorite song that they bleeped out?
- 4:43Speaker 1: I was pissed. I don't remember the name of the band,
- 4:45Speaker 1: but the song is Pumped Up Kicks. I forget what
- 4:49Speaker 1: the name of the band is, but they fucking censored that.
- 4:52Speaker 1: They censored out Guns and Bullets. Are you serious?
- 4:56Speaker 2: First of all, we were watching VH1, so you can't
- 4:58Speaker 2: be shocked by this. They censored Sublime a long time ago, remember?
- 5:02Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they censored half of that song.
- 5:04Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 5:06Speaker 13: They censored everything.
- 5:07Speaker 8: You couldn't say.
- 5:10Speaker 6: Ah, shit, what was it?
- 5:10Speaker 3: What did he say?
- 5:12Speaker 10: Drugs?
- 5:12Speaker 6: They censored that.
- 5:13Speaker 13: They censored Chrome 45.
- 5:19Speaker 11: I told you, you have to censor that stuff, because
- 5:21Speaker 11: if I heard them mention bullets and guns, I want
- 5:23Speaker 11: to go shoot a lot of people.
- 5:24Speaker 2: It makes me.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Want to shoot people if they censor out guns and bullets.
- 5:28Speaker 2: The safety and protection of society.
- 5:30Speaker 8: Dude, that's all bullshit, man.
- 5:31Speaker 2: It is.
- 5:32Speaker 1: All right, I play violent video games. And you stabbed
- 5:36Speaker 1: somebody in the knee.
- 5:38Speaker 8: No, somebody stabbed me.
- 5:39Speaker 10: In the knee and I cut some guy.
- 5:40Speaker 13: That was different.
- 5:41Speaker 1: You told me you stabbed somebody in the knee.
- 5:43Speaker 2: No, Roy stabbed me in the knee with a linoleum knife.
- 5:45Speaker 1: You told me you stabbed somebody in the knee while
- 5:47Speaker 1: listening to Welcome to the Jungle by Guns N' Roses.
- 5:49Speaker 8: I cut a guy. I didn't stab him in the knee.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Now you're changing your story.
- 5:53Speaker 2: No, I'm not.
- 5:54Speaker 6: Okay.
- 5:54Speaker 13: You're getting too many of my stories mixed up.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I think you're getting your story mixed up.
- 5:59Speaker 8: I know exactly which ones are which.
- 6:01Speaker 1: No, I have a better memory than you.
- 6:03Speaker 9: Anyways, wait a minute.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Please.
- 6:06Speaker 8: I know I've got a bad memory.
- 6:07Speaker 13: I just, I know which ones are which. But no,
- 6:10Speaker 13: I carry around a fucking gun and I don't shoot anybody.
- 6:13Speaker 10: You know?
- 6:14Speaker 2: Well, you're not listening to enough cheesy pop music.
- 6:16Speaker 9: Apparently.
- 6:17Speaker 2: You know? That's what you need to push her right
- 6:20Speaker 2: over the edge.
- 6:21Speaker 14: I guess.
- 6:24Speaker 2: All right. Any other morning cheeriness to pass along to people?
- 6:29Speaker 1: I woke up way too damn early.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I always wake up too damn early.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I woke up even before your alarm.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I woke up at like Dude, that alarm, my alarm
- 6:35Speaker 2: scared the shit out of me.
- 6:36Speaker 1: It scared the crap out of me, too.
- 6:37Speaker 2: The sad part was I was already up when you
- 6:39Speaker 2: were alarm went off.
- 6:39Speaker 11: Really?
- 6:40Speaker 2: I was just sitting there going, what time is it?
- 6:42Speaker 2: I don't even know.
- 6:42Speaker 11: Why is there no clock in here?
- 6:45Speaker 2: Which there is, but it doesn't glow. If it doesn't
- 6:46Speaker 2: glow in the dark, it's useless.
- 6:48Speaker 8: Well, I can't see anyway. Even if it did glow,
- 6:50Speaker 8: I couldn't see anything.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I woke up around like 6.30 this morning. I was mad.
- 6:54Speaker 1: This bed was hella comfortable, though. I don't know why
- 6:56Speaker 1: I woke up.
- 6:58Speaker 2: They are comfortable. I'm not used to that. I think
- 6:59Speaker 2: it was throwing me off.
- 7:00Speaker 13: I had a macchiato this morning.
- 7:02Speaker 10: What the hell's that?
- 7:03Speaker 2: It's fancy-ass coffee.
- 7:04Speaker 8: Apparently, it was pretty damn good.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Like $ 5?
- 7:08Speaker 13: It was a $ 4 fucking little cup of coffee is
- 7:10Speaker 13: what it was.
- 7:11Speaker 2: A $ 5 cup of coffee.
- 7:12Speaker 1: You're a sucker.
- 7:14Speaker 12: Well, they didn't have regular gas station coffee.
- 7:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 9: I asked the lady.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I was like, well, I know I don't like.
- 7:22Speaker 13: Espressos because they're just, I don't know, they taste like dirt.
- 7:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 13: They don't put enough sugar in half the shit.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yeah, you need more cappuccino in there.
- 7:32Speaker 13: I asked her, I was like, what's the sugariest, most
- 7:35Speaker 13: sweetest thing you've got on here? And she was like,
- 7:37Speaker 13: a cafe macchiato.
- 7:38Speaker 10: And I was like, alright, I'll take one of those.
- 7:41Speaker 11: Anything with mocha involved just means they dump chocolate syrup
- 7:44Speaker 11: into it, so that's a good thing too.
- 7:45Speaker 13: I know I don't like a cafe latte, although for
- 7:48Speaker 13: some reason I keep getting them, I forget that I
- 7:50Speaker 13: don't like them.
- 7:52Speaker 15: Memories, see?
- 7:52Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 7:54Speaker 6: But, uh.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what happened last year.
- 7:57Speaker 11: I ended up getting coffee at the hotel, and it
- 7:59Speaker 11: was the fancy high-end coffee because that's all they had
- 8:01Speaker 11: down there.
- 8:02Speaker 2: So what are you going to do?
- 8:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:04Speaker 13: You can't doctor it up. I need to doctor my
- 8:06Speaker 13: coffee up. So I need to know it's going to
- 8:08Speaker 13: be sweet and creamy.
- 8:10Speaker 1: You all were fancy and ended up here having coffee out.
- 8:12Speaker 10: Of, like, glasses.
- 8:13Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Well, it wasn't another paper cup. I stole it yesterday
- 8:17Speaker 2: for green tea.
- 8:19Speaker 11: But why would you have that thing, which makes two
- 8:21Speaker 11: cups of coffee, and give you one paper cup that
- 8:23Speaker 11: would hold coffee?
- 8:24Speaker 2: No, they gave us two. That was it?
- 8:26Speaker 6: Okay.
- 8:26Speaker 13: Yeah, I had green tea yesterday.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Still, though, why wouldn't they give you... They should give
- 8:30Speaker 2: you enough cups for options.
- 8:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I mean, there was tea as well, so they should
- 8:33Speaker 1: give you at least enough cups to cover all your options.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Much like the towels. They always give you one short
- 8:37Speaker 2: towel of what you need, too. Like, guys, really? Come on.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Just throw an extra one in there. You got a
- 8:41Speaker 2: whole carton.
- 8:42Speaker 10: Well, they give you three towels.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Three towels and a four-bed.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Well, because we only had three people listed on.
- 8:46Speaker 2: The feed here. They know better than that.
- 8:48Speaker 10: I don't think they.
- 8:49Speaker 1: It's a convention.
- 8:49Speaker 2: It's a convention.
- 8:50Speaker 13: I don't think they put towels out according to who's
- 8:52Speaker 13: staying in the room. I think they just throw out
- 8:54Speaker 13: a certain number of towels.
- 8:55Speaker 6: I guess.
- 8:56Speaker 2: But it's always one short of what you need.
- 8:57Speaker 13: The laundry cart was right there.
- 8:58Speaker 10: We could have gotten one.
- 9:00Speaker 2: So it's not like it's any big deal. Well, we'll
- 9:02Speaker 2: have to hit it on the way out. You just
- 9:03Speaker 2: stock up on towels. Housekeeping? What kind of hotel is this?
- 9:10Speaker 11: All right, so with all our coffee talk, that was
- 9:12Speaker 11: just the initial coffee we had, so we're going to
- 9:16Speaker 11: have to go get some more coffee.
- 9:17Speaker 2: So I think that's our next stop. I don't like coffee.
- 9:19Speaker 11: You can have hot chocolate or something, but the rest
- 9:22Speaker 11: of us are going to go get caffeinated up, so
- 9:24Speaker 11: we'll check back in with you later.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Are you trying to figure out how to steal the television?
- 9:28Speaker 8: No, I was looking to see if I had any.
- 9:29Speaker 2: That's our story, and we're sticking to it.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Sometimes it looks like it does. Kids with a phone
- 9:42Speaker 3: that gets you there.
- 10:10Speaker 14: In the mood for hot coffee? When you are, nothing
- 10:13Speaker 14: else will satisfy. Coffee has a flavor, an aroma, a
- 10:16Speaker 14: deep down satisfying goodness all its own. And our coffee
- 10:20Speaker 14: has something extra, the care with which we brew and
- 10:22Speaker 14: serve it. You'll enjoy the show more while you're enjoying
- 10:25Speaker 14: steaming hot coffee.
- 10:27Speaker 6: Come and get yours now. We'll take it.
- 10:34Speaker 5: It started as a simple crime. The Candy Snatchers. For them,
- 10:39Speaker 5: it was a new beginning. For her, it was the
- 10:42Speaker 5: beginning of the end. Three losers who wanted to lead
- 10:48Speaker 5: the good life. The Candy Snatchers. They'd do anything to
- 10:53Speaker 5: get there. The Candy Snatchers. They were after a fortune
- 10:58Speaker 5: in diamonds.
- 10:59Speaker 1: We cut off her ear.
- 11:01Speaker 6: And they sent her father a piece of candy in
- 11:04Speaker 6: a box.
- 11:06Speaker 10: Oh my God, no!
- 11:08Speaker 6: The Candy Snatchers.
- 11:10Speaker 5: They did things they couldn't even believe themselves.
- 11:15Speaker 6: The Candy Snatchers. Bizarre.
- 11:18Speaker 10: Incredible.
- 11:19Speaker 6: Almost unbelievable. The Candy Snatchers.
- 11:24Speaker 5: This is the one they're talking about.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Come with me and you'll be In a.
- 11:33Speaker 17: World of pure imagination, take a look and you'll see
- 11:40Speaker 17: into your imagination.
- 11:44Speaker 11: So at the convention this week, they had something that
- 11:46Speaker 11: I thought was pretty great. They had a reunion of
- 11:48Speaker 11: all the kids from the original Willy Wonka and the
- 11:51Speaker 11: Chocolate Factory. A movie that I still think is amazing.
- 11:55Speaker 11: And luckily, I had a chance to talk to several
- 11:58Speaker 11: of the actors.
- 11:58Speaker 10: We'll see, we'll define, and I'm.
- 12:05Speaker 18: Paris Tham, and I was Mike TV and Willy Wonka
- 12:07Speaker 18: in The Chocolate Factory.
- 12:08Speaker 9: Very cool.
- 12:10Speaker 11: I guess just in general, I guess how did you
- 12:13Speaker 11: get involved in the project?
- 12:14Speaker 4: Did you know the scope of it when you went
- 12:16Speaker 4: in to do like an audition?
- 12:18Speaker 18: How I got involved is I started acting when I
- 12:20Speaker 18: was six.
- 12:21Speaker 7: My parents were classical musicians, and my mom brought me
- 12:24Speaker 7: to a commercial agent, and I booked the first commercial
- 12:27Speaker 7: I went up for. I'd done a Broadway show before
- 12:29Speaker 7: I booked this, so it was just sort of another audition.
- 12:33Speaker 7: And no, I didn't really know where it was going
- 12:35Speaker 7: to head. It didn't really start to grow into its
- 12:38Speaker 7: current popularity until about 20 years ago.
- 12:42Speaker 18: At the time, it wasn't a big hit.
- 12:43Speaker 4: And then what was, I guess, the shoot itself like?
- 12:45Speaker 4: Were all the kids on set most of the time?
- 12:48Speaker 11: And was that an interesting shoot with having that many
- 12:51Speaker 11: kids around?
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:54Speaker 7: It took me nine weeks to shoot my section. I
- 12:57Speaker 7: think longer than that for Charlie, shorter than that for Augustus,
- 13:00Speaker 7: that kind of thing.
- 13:02Speaker 18: Was it fun to have the kids around?
- 13:04Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 13:05Speaker 18: I think that it was in Munich, Germany in 1970.
- 13:08Speaker 7: And yeah, it was more fun to have kids around.
- 13:11Speaker 18: We were kids, so it's always nice to have the
- 13:13Speaker 18: kids around.
- 13:14Speaker 4: What was Gene like to work with?
- 13:16Speaker 18: Very nice guy. Soft-spoken, cool, gentle, kind, good guy. Very talented, obviously.
- 13:23Speaker 19: Peter Ostrom, I played Charlie Bucket and Willy Wonka in
- 13:28Speaker 19: And the Chocolate Factory.
- 13:30Speaker 4: I guess how did you end up getting involved?
- 13:33Speaker 19: I lived in Cleveland, worked at the Cleveland Playhouse and
- 13:38Speaker 19: the casting agency came from New York and knew the
- 13:42Speaker 19: reputation of the Playhouse in Cleveland and I was asked
- 13:46Speaker 19: if I wanted to audition. I was in the right
- 13:49Speaker 19: place at the right time.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Most of the movie kind of falls on your shoulders.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Was that a lot to deal with, being that young?
- 13:57Speaker 16: I didn't realize it at that point.
- 14:00Speaker 19: I had lots of help from Jack Albertson and Gene Wilder,
- 14:04Speaker 19: so I didn't realize the heavy burden.
- 14:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 4: You also spend a lot of time with Gene Wilder.
- 14:10Speaker 9: What was that like?
- 14:11Speaker 16: Gene was wonderful, both he and Jack, you know, very professional.
- 14:14Speaker 19: You know, they were, you know, kind of my mentors
- 14:17Speaker 19: in the film, so great people to work with.
- 14:21Speaker 4: And then the set itself was kind of a big ordeal.
- 14:25Speaker 4: I mean, how was that, being a kid and running
- 14:26Speaker 4: around that set?
- 14:28Speaker 9: I was there for so long.
- 14:31Speaker 16: The novelty of being in a film kind of wore off,
- 14:34Speaker 16: you know.
- 14:35Speaker 6: We were.
- 14:39Speaker 19: Expected to work as adults and be professional and not.
- 14:42Speaker 16: Screw around, and we didn't. We had a job to do,
- 14:48Speaker 16: and we did it, basically.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Thank you very much.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 14:52Speaker 20: My name is Julie Dawn Cole, and I played Veruca Saltz.
- 14:56Speaker 4: All right. You have a very specific type of character
- 14:59Speaker 4: in the movie. I guess, what was it you were
- 15:01Speaker 4: drawing from on that character?
- 15:03Speaker 20: I suppose if you're saying specific, yes, I was a brat.
- 15:06Speaker 4: That's the wrong way of putting it.
- 15:07Speaker 20: Yes, politely.
- 15:09Speaker 21: I'm the definitive brat, I suppose. Veruca Salt was particularly
- 15:13Speaker 21: mean and nasty. She was the original material girl. Whatever
- 15:17Speaker 21: she wanted, I want it, and I want it now.
- 15:20Speaker 11: Um i guess what was your experience like on you
- 15:22Speaker 11: know working on that set with all the.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Kids and the crazy.
- 15:25Speaker 22: Everything yeah my experience of being on the film was
- 15:28Speaker 22: it was great fun to be in um little did
- 15:32Speaker 22: any of us realize that we'd still be talking about
- 15:34Speaker 22: it 40 years later but what an amazing film to
- 15:37Speaker 22: be in with amazing scenery and great actors and and
- 15:40Speaker 22: the company of the kids i mean we've always said
- 15:42Speaker 22: we're kind of a bit like a strange family.
- 15:45Speaker 11: Yeah years later still kind of what is it like
- 15:48Speaker 11: you know this is the first time everybody's been together
- 15:49Speaker 11: in how many.
- 15:50Speaker 21: Years maybe about nearly eight or ten years or something
- 15:54Speaker 21: yes nothing changes you know we all look a little
- 15:56Speaker 21: bit more crinkly around the edges but you know we're
- 15:59Speaker 21: still at heart probably the same people that we always were.
- 16:03Speaker 11: And then you're I guess your character sort of found
- 16:06Speaker 11: a second life in the music business.
- 16:09Speaker 4: How did that hit you the first time you heard
- 16:10Speaker 4: about that?
- 16:12Speaker 21: Because I still live in England, I hadn't heard of
- 16:15Speaker 21: Veruca Salt, the band. When I did hear about it,
- 16:18Speaker 21: I think in 97 or whenever I first did a convention, everybody.
- 16:21Speaker 20: Kept coming up to me saying, what do you think
- 16:23Speaker 20: about the band?
- 16:23Speaker 18: What do you think about the band?
- 16:24Speaker 21: So eventually somebody gave me the CD. I think they're
- 16:26Speaker 21: pretty good, but a shame I never got to hear
- 16:28Speaker 21: them play.
- 16:28Speaker 11: It is kind of weird, yeah, that you've moved into
- 16:31Speaker 11: the other areas of pop culture now.
- 16:32Speaker 6: Yes.
- 16:33Speaker 20: Yeah, and occasionally, you know, we still pop up in
- 16:35Speaker 20: other shows.
- 16:36Speaker 21: I mean, I know they did a kind of tribute,
- 16:39Speaker 21: if you like, in Glee, which was quite incredible when
- 16:43Speaker 21: I saw that.
- 16:43Speaker 20: I'm a big Glee fan. So that was quite cool.
- 16:46Speaker 10: Very cool.
- 16:47Speaker 9: Thank you very much.
- 16:48Speaker 18: Thank you.

- 17:59Speaker 3: It's the end.
- 18:27Speaker 25: Way down among Brazilians coffee beans grow by the billions
- 18:32Speaker 25: so they've got to find those extra cups to fill
- 18:36Speaker 25: they got an awful lot of coffee in Brazil.
- 18:40Speaker 11: Alright so we're back and this time we've decided to
- 18:45Speaker 11: do a special edition of the caffeinated movie.
- 18:47Speaker 10: Geek cappuccino my butt I still drink coffee The.
- 18:52Speaker 26: Last fucking thing you need is another cup of coffee.
- 18:55Speaker 27: It's time for the Caffeinated Movie Geek.
- 18:58Speaker 11: We decided to take it on the road while we're
- 19:00Speaker 11: in Chicago and wanted to stop off here at Bleeding
- 19:04Speaker 11: Heart Bakery.
- 19:05Speaker 4: So I'm here with Vinny.
- 19:06Speaker 10: Why, hello.
- 19:07Speaker 9: And you are the co-owner.
- 19:08Speaker 8: I am the co-owner.
- 19:10Speaker 10: I am the pop of the mom and pop here
- 19:11Speaker 10: at Bleeding Heart Bakery.
- 19:13Speaker 11: As usual with our Caffeinated Movie Geek segment, I usually
- 19:16Speaker 11: go to someone to tell me. So I'll ask you, Vinny,
- 19:19Speaker 11: what blend of coffee are we drinking this time?
- 19:21Speaker 10: This is a fabulous blend called the Black and Tan
- 19:24Speaker 10: from Altera Coffee, one of the local roasters here to
- 19:27Speaker 10: the area. They make this blend for us. It's pretty bold.
- 19:31Speaker 10: It's pretty awesome. I like it a lot. Gets the
- 19:34Speaker 10: caffeine fluids going. Definitely.
- 19:37Speaker 11: We've already had a little bit, but this one's much better, actually,
- 19:40Speaker 11: than the random hotel coffee I had this morning.
- 19:42Speaker 10: Oh, yeah. It's really fun to be able to work
- 19:45Speaker 10: with someone who's as big into coffee as we are.
- 19:48Speaker 10: When somebody can hear a shot being... pulled properly or not,
- 19:51Speaker 10: it's pretty impressive. And the coffee, you know, I was
- 19:55Speaker 10: able to work with us because I've always had like
- 19:57Speaker 10: heartburn sometimes from some coffee that's too acidic. And learning
- 20:00Speaker 10: what that is and the differences and stuff was really cool.
- 20:03Speaker 10: My wife thinks I'm a nerd, but when it comes
- 20:06Speaker 10: to delicious coffee, they're really... You really have to put
- 20:08Speaker 10: your foot down and be very nerdy about it.
- 20:10Speaker 11: There's a lot of aspects to it, so much more
- 20:12Speaker 11: than you realize when you just go order a cup.
- 20:15Speaker 8: Oh, it's a culture.
- 20:16Speaker 9: Yeah, it's massive.
- 20:18Speaker 10: It's amazing, and once you get into it, you try
- 20:21Speaker 10: not to get too involved, but it just sucks you
- 20:23Speaker 10: right in.
- 20:23Speaker 9: Definitely.
- 20:24Speaker 10: Coffee is not coffee. There's good coffee, and there's not
- 20:26Speaker 10: so good coffee.
- 20:27Speaker 11: There's a wide array, which is kind of why I
- 20:30Speaker 11: wanted to throw this in while we were here. It
- 20:32Speaker 11: was like, let's, you know, we do our little coffee
- 20:34Speaker 11: tie-in segment, so I thought we'd do that, and... Again,
- 20:36Speaker 11: we came here last year and really liked what you
- 20:38Speaker 11: guys were doing.
- 20:39Speaker 6: Thanks.
- 20:39Speaker 11: Thank you.
- 20:39Speaker 10: So I was going to give you an.
- 20:41Speaker 11: Opportunity to tell people about what you do and your
- 20:44Speaker 11: bakery and other aspects of the business.
- 20:47Speaker 10: Well, this is the Bleeding Heart Bakery. It is what
- 20:50Speaker 10: it is. It's sustainable punk rock pastry. People always think, oh,
- 20:53Speaker 10: punk rock, so is there like a giant record collection
- 20:55Speaker 10: in there and there's all this cool stuff in the wall? Well, no. Actually,
- 20:58Speaker 10: what we're about is kind of doing things against the grain.
- 21:01Speaker 10: A lot of people have seen our business practices, you know,
- 21:04Speaker 10: like paying your... dishwasher, a livable salary, things like that.
- 21:09Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 21:10Speaker 10: Providing benefits in a safe environment for people.
- 21:14Speaker 4: I'm still looking for that.
- 21:15Speaker 8: Wait a minute.
- 21:17Speaker 6: Yeah, right?
- 21:18Speaker 10: There's so many people that have seen what we do
- 21:19Speaker 10: and have thought, you guys are going to fail. You're
- 21:21Speaker 10: not going to make any money. Really, it hasn't been
- 21:23Speaker 10: about making money. This is Michelle's vision. I helped bring
- 21:27Speaker 10: it to life. It's really been about providing a world
- 21:31Speaker 10: for us to live in. It was more about making
- 21:34Speaker 10: enough money to get by and being happy about where
- 21:37Speaker 10: we are and what we're doing and trying to bring
- 21:39Speaker 10: that to the people that work here.
- 21:40Speaker 8: And be proud of what they're doing.
- 21:43Speaker 10: We donate a lot of proceeds and we work with
- 21:45Speaker 10: a lot of non-profit organizations. We had to limit it
- 21:48Speaker 10: to two a month so we could cycle them out
- 21:50Speaker 10: because it was a couple of months where we donated
- 21:52Speaker 10: more money than we made and It was getting a
- 21:55Speaker 10: little bad when you can't pay your rent, you know.
- 21:57Speaker 11: It's nice to give some, but you've got to keep
- 21:59Speaker 11: going or you benefit nobody.
- 22:01Speaker 10: So when you walk in here, it's obviously there's an
- 22:03Speaker 10: obvious punk rock aesthetic. But really, the decoration here has
- 22:07Speaker 10: been just kind of like a shadow of Michelle and
- 22:10Speaker 10: I's bedrooms growing up. There's some Faber band stuff. There's
- 22:13Speaker 10: a lot of cool drawings. A lot of things you
- 22:15Speaker 10: see here, like these funky tables I made myself. The
- 22:18Speaker 10: whisk lights that have become the signature for us is
- 22:20Speaker 10: something I made myself as well. Those are awesome. Just
- 22:22Speaker 10: kind of drooling and fooling around in the back in
- 22:24Speaker 10: a little work room. And we really have just tried
- 22:28Speaker 10: to break that stereotype of organic bakery. Oh, it's organic.
- 22:33Speaker 10: It's going to be like mint green walls, and it's
- 22:35Speaker 10: going to be like this hippie granola place. Hippies.
- 22:37Speaker 12: Yeah, no.
- 22:38Speaker 10: Not here. Punk rock has played a big part in
- 22:42Speaker 10: Michelle and I's life. The politics of punk rock sometimes
- 22:45Speaker 10: get lost in music. People love the pretty music, and
- 22:48Speaker 10: they realize that a lot of punk has come from
- 22:51Speaker 10: different countries where it was inspired by different oppressive governments
- 22:55Speaker 10: or things like that. I've been a drummer my whole life.
- 22:59Speaker 10: I've been in several big bands in the underground punk scene.
- 23:02Speaker 10: I've been contributing to the punk rock scene through music
- 23:05Speaker 10: and through being an activist. And now that we're here,
- 23:07Speaker 10: we work with a lot of organizations like the Mercy
- 23:09Speaker 10: Home Foundation, And, you know, there's a home for battered women,
- 23:14Speaker 10: food shelters, so many different places that we work with
- 23:17Speaker 10: that we really try to be the opposite of normal business.
- 23:22Speaker 10: So that's what we are. You know, we source our
- 23:24Speaker 10: ingredients from local farmers as much as we possibly can.
- 23:28Speaker 10: We're completely organic because we wanted to provide, you know,
- 23:31Speaker 10: not just delicious tasting food that my wife's, you know,
- 23:36Speaker 10: culture and studied around the world, but also the best ingredients.
- 23:39Speaker 10: A lot of places you walk into, they'll charge you
- 23:41Speaker 10: an arm and a leg for something that's made with garbage.
- 23:43Speaker 10: It's like, why do you want to eat garbage? My
- 23:46Speaker 10: children are here. My children exist here. They're going to
- 23:48Speaker 10: eat this food. I eat this food. And we definitely
- 23:50Speaker 10: wanted to just raise the bar for what would be
- 23:52Speaker 10: normal in the pastry world.
- 23:55Speaker 4: It's definitely, especially in the punk rock scene, that DIY attitude.
- 23:59Speaker 11: And you guys have definitely, what little I've seen, is
- 24:02Speaker 11: taken that upon yourself and applied it towards us. I mean,
- 24:05Speaker 11: that's really cool, too, that you've just built it up
- 24:07Speaker 11: out of nothing and really stuck by your guns with
- 24:10Speaker 11: what you're trying to do.
- 24:11Speaker 10: Yeah, a lot of people have tried to buy into
- 24:12Speaker 10: Bleeding Heart over the years, trying to take us to
- 24:14Speaker 10: the next, quote, unquote, next level.
- 24:17Speaker 9: The next level.
- 24:18Speaker 10: And it's really just people trying to exploit what we
- 24:20Speaker 10: were doing, and we really had to fight against it.
- 24:24Speaker 10: It's really tempting to say, okay, I've worked so hard,
- 24:27Speaker 10: I deserve a payday. And, you know, just let it
- 24:30Speaker 10: all go. But I could never see the integrity of
- 24:32Speaker 10: this place go to shambles like that.
- 24:33Speaker 11: I mean, it really could be something that was marketed
- 24:35Speaker 11: really easily if somebody got behind it with a lot
- 24:37Speaker 11: of money and suddenly it would become like Hard Rock
- 24:39Speaker 11: Cafe and, oh, we slap stuff up on the walls
- 24:42Speaker 11: and we serve, you know, bakery goods.
- 24:44Speaker 10: It goes so beyond that. We're connected with local shows,
- 24:47Speaker 10: you know, bands, organizations that are actually doing things, putting
- 24:51Speaker 10: together benefit shows like, you know, for people who pass away,
- 24:55Speaker 10: band members are hardcore for the hungry, where you have
- 24:58Speaker 10: to pay with food products to get in. And things
- 25:01Speaker 10: like that really set us apart from everybody else. And
- 25:05Speaker 10: the misconception is that a lot of people walk in here,
- 25:07Speaker 10: and it's usually the young punks who have granny jackets
- 25:11Speaker 10: and patches, or the older punks who think that you
- 25:13Speaker 10: judge your punkness by your record collection and vinyl. They
- 25:17Speaker 10: really kind of come in here and don't really see
- 25:19Speaker 10: what's going on and what's happening behind the scenes. It's
- 25:22Speaker 10: not just It's not the aesthetic. It's not the aesthetic.
- 25:25Speaker 10: There could be more bands and posters and stuff on
- 25:28Speaker 10: the wall. But there really isn't because this is just
- 25:30Speaker 10: a reflection of the reality that is the life of
- 25:33Speaker 10: Michelle and I.
- 25:34Speaker 8: And this is who we are.
- 25:36Speaker 10: We're not trying to be punk rock.
- 25:37Speaker 8: This is who we are.
- 25:39Speaker 10: When someone said, oh, wow, that was a great idea
- 25:41Speaker 10: to do some punk thing that hasn't been done before.
- 25:42Speaker 10: I was like, we weren't trying to do a punk thing.
- 25:45Speaker 10: I was just trying to make this place look cool.
- 25:47Speaker 10: This is me making the place look cool.
- 25:49Speaker 4: This is where I hang out 20 hours a day.
- 25:52Speaker 10: Black is a color. It can be used in decorating
- 25:54Speaker 10: a storefront.
- 25:57Speaker 4: You rarely get to go home, so you might as
- 25:59Speaker 4: well make this your second home.
- 26:00Speaker 10: It's funny that you say that because I have more
- 26:03Speaker 10: of the things that I acquire. I meet artists and things.
- 26:05Speaker 10: I get stuff made or autographed, and I collect these things.
- 26:09Speaker 10: I'm an avid collector. And I have more of them
- 26:11Speaker 10: on display here.
- 26:12Speaker 23: Than I do at home.
- 26:12Speaker 4: Yeah, see, that's what happens.
- 26:14Speaker 8: Because I'm almost never home.
- 26:15Speaker 4: Definitely.
- 26:17Speaker 10: Oh, man. But, you know, it really is different here.
- 26:22Speaker 10: This is a passion. My wife is super passionate about pastry.
- 26:26Speaker 10: And this is our life. We're not here to make money.
- 26:29Speaker 10: We're not here to try and, like, survive in this
- 26:31Speaker 10: industry by, you know, marketing ourselves and trying to take
- 26:34Speaker 10: money from people. This is who we are.
- 26:36Speaker 8: This is our home.
- 26:37Speaker 10: And when you come in here, you can see it.
- 26:39Speaker 10: that you're stepping into a part of our lives.
- 26:41Speaker 11: I was going to also let you kind of highlight
- 26:45Speaker 11: some of the specifics or some of the, I guess,
- 26:47Speaker 11: the more signature pieces you guys have here as far
- 26:50Speaker 11: as types of baked goods.
- 26:53Speaker 10: You know, it was funny because when we first started,
- 26:55Speaker 10: Michelle hated two things. She hated muffins and she hated cupcakes.
- 26:59Speaker 10: And now with this cupcake craze... She's been forced to
- 27:02Speaker 10: kind of accept it and make them, but she's kind
- 27:05Speaker 10: of revolutionized a lot of the cupcakes. She started doing
- 27:07Speaker 10: savory cupcakes before they were popular. And a lot of
- 27:12Speaker 10: the things that we get noticed for are flavors we
- 27:15Speaker 10: put in our cupcakes that come from other recipes like
- 27:17Speaker 10: cakes or different pastries. Michelle's a trained pastry chef, so
- 27:21Speaker 10: it kind of kills her a little bit to have
- 27:22Speaker 10: to make cookies and brownies and cupcakes when she's used
- 27:25Speaker 10: to making mousse cakes and tarts and things like that.
- 27:29Speaker 10: But one of the things we've become famous for here
- 27:32Speaker 10: is the s'mores brownie, which is just delicious.
- 27:34Speaker 4: Which I just got and I'm about ready to break into.
- 27:36Speaker 10: It's amazing. And the cupcakes for sure, especially when we
- 27:39Speaker 10: started doing the really odd flavors and recycle them every month.
- 27:43Speaker 10: Another thing we've been really famous for, we don't have
- 27:45Speaker 10: now our tarts, fresh fruit tarts and different tarts, which
- 27:48Speaker 10: we will be having at our new place.
- 27:50Speaker 8: Because Michelle just.
- 27:51Speaker 10: She couldn't keep up with the demand for them. And
- 27:55Speaker 10: as much as we tried, our staff would never duplicate
- 27:57Speaker 10: them properly. And then, last but not least, the cake ball.
- 28:01Speaker 4: The cake ball was... I just tried, and it's amazing.
- 28:04Speaker 10: They are so addictive. You know, a lot of people
- 28:07Speaker 10: try to copy them, and no one gets them just right.
- 28:09Speaker 10: And they really are just leftover scraps from all the
- 28:11Speaker 10: cakes that we sculpt and cut in the back.
- 28:13Speaker 14: Wow.
- 28:14Speaker 10: You know, we're very sustainable. We try to reuse everything
- 28:16Speaker 10: that we possibly can. And one day, Michelle just said,
- 28:20Speaker 10: you know what, I have an idea for all this
- 28:21Speaker 10: leftover cake. You know, some of it we would donate,
- 28:24Speaker 10: some of it we would compost. And one day, we're like, She.
- 28:27Speaker 8: Just thought cake balls.
- 28:29Speaker 10: And cake balls were born, and now they're a craze,
- 28:31Speaker 10: and everyone wants to have them. And I can see why,
- 28:34Speaker 10: because they're beautiful, they're colorful, they taste really good, and
- 28:37Speaker 10: they're so hard to eat just one.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:40Speaker 4: They are pretty damn impressive, I have to say.
- 28:42Speaker 10: So all those things, and then definitely our cakes. I
- 28:46Speaker 10: accidentally got into making cakes one day. When we first
- 28:49Speaker 10: opened this bakery, I was a trained chef. My idea was, yes,
- 28:53Speaker 10: we're opening this bakery today, My role is going to
- 28:55Speaker 10: have to be making soups and sandwiches and expanding that
- 28:57Speaker 10: into the menu. And one day, you know, this is
- 29:01Speaker 10: way before all the cake shows on TV.
- 29:04Speaker 4: Which there are 40 or 50 now.
- 29:05Speaker 10: There's like 50 now. I think I lost count. And
- 29:09Speaker 10: we were asked to make a cake that had a
- 29:11Speaker 10: little figure on it, like a little fairy. And one
- 29:13Speaker 10: of the girls who was Michelle's assistant made one. And
- 29:16Speaker 10: I was just kind of joking, busting balls a little bit.
- 29:18Speaker 10: And I thought, wow, that's the best you can do.
- 29:20Speaker 10: I could do better than that. I'm like, I've modeled Play-Doh.
- 29:22Speaker 10: It's kind of similar.
- 29:23Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 29:24Speaker 10: And then, you know, after a lot of joshing back
- 29:25Speaker 10: and forth, it turned into a, well, let's see what
- 29:28Speaker 10: you got. Put your money where your mouth is. I
- 29:31Speaker 10: just sculpted it. It looked immaculate. And my wife looked
- 29:35Speaker 10: at it and said, you know what? You're doing that
- 29:38Speaker 10: from now on.
- 29:38Speaker 8: You're in charge of that.
- 29:40Speaker 4: History you were like damn it why didn't i mess
- 29:42Speaker 4: this up.
- 29:43Speaker 10: But you know it's fun you know people ask me
- 29:45Speaker 10: all the time how i got into it honestly making
- 29:48Speaker 10: cakes the way i make cakes here these crazy elaborate
- 29:51Speaker 10: 3d cakes and like competition cakes really utilizes everything i've
- 29:55Speaker 10: learned throughout the years i'm really close to being a
- 29:58Speaker 10: professional electrician, a professional plumber, or a professional carpenter. I've
- 30:02Speaker 10: shown that here, building this place out of nothing. But
- 30:06Speaker 10: only in building these custom cakes do I get to
- 30:08Speaker 10: utilize all those skills. And it is just so much fun.
- 30:12Speaker 10: People see a cake and they're like, oh my God,
- 30:14Speaker 10: I can't believe that's a cake. And at the same time,
- 30:17Speaker 10: they're thinking, how the hell did you figure that out?
- 30:19Speaker 10: And I'm like, well, that's the fun part. That's the
- 30:20Speaker 10: hard part, but it's also the fun part to sit
- 30:22Speaker 10: down and just figure out how to make a dragon cake.
- 30:26Speaker 10: with a long neck that's like three feet long and
- 30:29Speaker 10: make it last and stay together and stuff. And it's
- 30:33Speaker 10: really fun. And I think in the last few years,
- 30:36Speaker 10: we've really exploited my layers of nerddom, if you will,
- 30:41Speaker 10: and making some pretty elaborate cakes in the different genres
- 30:44Speaker 10: of sci-fi horror and stuff. And now I'm in love.
- 30:48Speaker 8: This is where it's at for me.
- 30:50Speaker 10: And I think one of the greatest decisions I've ever
- 30:53Speaker 10: made in my life is to pursue making cakes.
- 30:55Speaker 27: That's awesome.
- 30:57Speaker 11: Well, in addition to all the cakes and the music tie-in,
- 31:01Speaker 11: you also end up being kind of a big movie fan, too.
- 31:05Speaker 10: Oh, gosh. Growing up, if it was good, it was
- 31:07Speaker 10: on my shelf. I hoard a lot of collectibles, statues,
- 31:11Speaker 10: and action figures, not toys.
- 31:12Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 31:13Speaker 9: We're geeks on this show, so it's okay. You're in
- 31:16Speaker 9: good company.
- 31:17Speaker 10: I think some of the skills I had that I'm
- 31:19Speaker 10: using now came through back in the day when I
- 31:21Speaker 10: was a painting little Ralph Partha miniatures for Dungeons & Dragons.
- 31:24Speaker 11: Oh, yeah.
- 31:25Speaker 10: And I've been able to utilize those skills I acquired
- 31:28Speaker 10: very well here.
- 31:29Speaker 4: I would think, yeah, in the cakes that would come
- 31:31Speaker 4: in handy.
- 31:32Speaker 10: But no, this movie collection and exposure to all that stuff,
- 31:34Speaker 10: that's what kind of separates me from everyone else because
- 31:36Speaker 10: it's like if I make a cake and somebody sees
- 31:38Speaker 10: it and they duplicate it, yeah, you can look at
- 31:40Speaker 10: it and say, I can make that, I can figure
- 31:42Speaker 10: that out. But it's that moment in time where somebody
- 31:44Speaker 10: walks through the door and says, hey, I'm really into
- 31:47Speaker 10: Doctor Who. What can you make me? It's that point
- 31:50Speaker 10: in time where you decide what to make, how to
- 31:52Speaker 10: make it, that separates you from other people. And it's
- 31:55Speaker 10: like if you walk in here and you want a
- 31:56Speaker 10: cool cake and I say, what are you into? You
- 31:58Speaker 10: tell me it's classic horror films like Freddy or Jason.
- 32:06Speaker 10: What kind of cake is going to come out of
- 32:07Speaker 10: my head? The sky's the limit here. And I really
- 32:10Speaker 10: hit genres for people.
- 32:11Speaker 11: I would think most places, they wouldn't have an idea.
- 32:14Speaker 11: If you want a Cthulhu cake, they're going to not
- 32:16Speaker 11: know what you're talking about.
- 32:16Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:16Speaker 10: See, someone here is like, hey, I want a Cthulhu cake,
- 32:18Speaker 10: and I'm Indian. I'm like, well, how about we make
- 32:20Speaker 10: a Ganesh cake that's really Cthulhu, and I do this,
- 32:23Speaker 10: and I do that, and I add this, and I
- 32:24Speaker 10: add that. And the people are just like, oh, my God,
- 32:25Speaker 10: that's amazing.
- 32:26Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 32:26Speaker 8: And all of a sudden, I've put together.
- 32:27Speaker 10: This giant showpiece that definitely put in more time and
- 32:32Speaker 10: labor than what was paid for. But for me, it's
- 32:34Speaker 10: worth it because I get this eternal picture to keep forever.
- 32:38Speaker 10: And the layers and layers of science fiction, old movies,
- 32:43Speaker 10: whether it's even stuff like cartoons, James Bond. Oh, yeah.
- 32:46Speaker 10: I mean, you name it. Harry, Harryhausen.
- 32:50Speaker 9: Oh, yeah, Ray Harryhausen.
- 32:52Speaker 10: All that stuff just comes out of my head and
- 32:53Speaker 10: it comes through into the things that I do. And
- 32:56Speaker 10: that's one of the questions I get asked all the time.
- 32:59Speaker 8: Where do you come up with this stuff?
- 33:00Speaker 10: I say, you know what? It's part of my life.
- 33:02Speaker 8: I grew up around.
- 33:03Speaker 9: Years of research.
- 33:04Speaker 10: Yeah, years and years of research. That's what I'm tapping into.
- 33:08Speaker 10: And that's why I wish I was more involved with
- 33:10Speaker 10: projects like this.
- 33:11Speaker 8: Very cool.
- 33:12Speaker 4: And, yeah, that's why we kind of wanted to tie
- 33:13Speaker 4: it all in.
- 33:14Speaker 9: I was like, you know, just based on what I saw,
- 33:16Speaker 9: I was.
- 33:16Speaker 4: Like, I'm sure there's a movie geek in there somewhere.
- 33:19Speaker 4: I've got to find this guy because it's got to
- 33:20Speaker 4: be this guy.
- 33:21Speaker 8: I was really shy for a long time.
- 33:22Speaker 10: My wife was giving all the credit for all this
- 33:24Speaker 10: cool stuff until finally Fangoria called. And they saw this
- 33:27Speaker 10: amazing cake I made, or we made here, and they're like,
- 33:30Speaker 10: we want to interview you. And I thought, you know what? Like, wow,
- 33:32Speaker 10: people are noticing and people are seeing it. I need
- 33:34Speaker 10: to stop being shy and come out of the corner,
- 33:37Speaker 10: the dark corner. And really, in the last, like, three years,
- 33:40Speaker 10: I've been pushing it out. I've been getting a little recognition,
- 33:43Speaker 10: and people have noticed that, really, in the city of Chicago. Yeah. Without,
- 33:47Speaker 10: you know, tooting my own horn and not blowing smoke
- 33:49Speaker 10: up your butt there. I really am the best when
- 33:52Speaker 10: it comes to not only the skill level of these cakes,
- 33:55Speaker 10: but just the realm in which they go to. There's
- 33:59Speaker 10: no boundaries, you know. I go there and back again,
- 34:04Speaker 10: for sure.
- 34:05Speaker 11: Oh, on that note, we'll take a break here. When
- 34:07Speaker 11: we come back, we'll have our movie discussion of the
- 34:09Speaker 11: week here.
- 34:10Speaker 12: Ooh, the movie.
- 34:11Speaker 9: Oh, yeah, the big movie.
- 34:12Speaker 3: So good.
- 34:13Speaker 27: We'll be back.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Dear Mr.
- 35:00Speaker 28: Vernon, we accept the fact that we have to sacrifice
- 35:02Speaker 28: a few hours a week to podcast about whatever you
- 35:04Speaker 28: find important, but we think you're crazy asking us to
- 35:07Speaker 28: write an essay telling you who we think we are.
- 35:10Speaker 28: You see us as you want to see us, in
- 35:12Speaker 28: the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions. But what
- 35:15Speaker 28: we found out is that each of us is a
- 35:17Speaker 28: podcast about other podcasts.
- 35:19Speaker 8: A podcast about television.
- 35:21Speaker 1: A podcast about films.
- 35:23Speaker 8: A podcast about music.
- 35:24Speaker 3: A podcast about books.
- 35:26Speaker 10: Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, The Podcast Podcast.
- 35:31Speaker 28: The Podcast Podcast is your one-stop source for all the
- 35:34Speaker 28: podcasts on the internet. Each week we have very special
- 35:36Speaker 28: guests from some of the best shows on iTunes so
- 35:38Speaker 28: that you can decide if you should check them out
- 35:40Speaker 28: or keep on movin'. Find us at thepodcastpodcast.com or search
- 35:44Speaker 28: for us in the iTunes store by looking for me,
- 35:46Speaker 28: Fozzie Bear. That's F-O-Z-Z-I-E-B-A-R-E.
- 35:52Speaker 15: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 35:55Speaker 3: Welcome to Steakland, kid.
- 36:17Speaker 29: Months passed in a blur of days and nights. We
- 36:20Speaker 29: traveled east and west, but always north, away from death.
- 36:24Speaker 29: We avoided the cities. Mister said they were the worst,
- 36:27Speaker 29: hit the hardest in the beginning. As people flocked together
- 36:31Speaker 29: for safety, the plague marched through their locked gates and
- 36:33Speaker 29: they became death traps. When Washington fell, it was over
- 36:37Speaker 29: for America as we knew her. As government blew away,
- 36:41Speaker 29: our great leaders ran for it, and hope was abandoned.
- 36:48Speaker 3: We were on our own now.
- 36:51Speaker 6: Me and Mister.
- 36:53Speaker 29: Traveling through a ruined land. Pockets of civilization survived. Towns
- 36:58Speaker 29: locked down behind fences and guns, holding the night away.
- 37:02Speaker 29: The cult spread like wildfire across the southern states, waiting
- 37:06Speaker 29: for the Messiah.
- 37:07Speaker 3: But he never came. Death came in its stead. And
- 37:16Speaker 3: it came with teeth.
- 37:19Speaker 11: The world is a vampire Sent to drain Secret destroyers
- 37:32Speaker 11: Hold you up to the flames And what do I
- 37:37Speaker 11: get For my pain Betrayed desires Alright, so we're back
- 38:10Speaker 11: with this week's Sofa Theater Feature, which is once again
- 38:13Speaker 11: on the road. We've headed to Chicago, so we're still
- 38:15Speaker 11: here at Bleeding Heart Bakery with Vinny, and we're going
- 38:17Speaker 11: to discuss this week's movie. This week's Sofa Theater Feature
- 38:21Speaker 11: is Stakeland. The year is 2010.
- 38:24Speaker 9: Director Jim Mickle.
- 38:26Speaker 11: The plot, according to IMDb, and feel free to argue,
- 38:29Speaker 11: because we argue with IMDb every week. Martin was a
- 38:32Speaker 11: normal teenage boy before the country collapsed into an empty
- 38:35Speaker 11: pit of economic and political disasters. A vampire epidemic has
- 38:39Speaker 11: swept across what is left of the nation's abandoned towns
- 38:42Speaker 11: and cities, and it's up to Mister, a death-dealing rogue
- 38:45Speaker 11: vampire hunter, to get Martin safely to Canada, the continent's
- 38:49Speaker 11: new Eden.
- 38:51Speaker 15: That's it.
- 38:51Speaker 10: That kind of covers it a little bit.
- 38:53Speaker 9: That covers it.
- 38:54Speaker 14: For sure.
- 38:54Speaker 30: Yeah.
- 38:55Speaker 8: So much more, though.
- 38:56Speaker 27: More than that.
- 38:57Speaker 9: So, that's the basics there.
- 38:58Speaker 11: So, I guess, spoiler alert, because this is sort of
- 39:01Speaker 11: a new movie for a lot of people, so we'll
- 39:04Speaker 11: will probably ruin everything. So yeah, just go watch it
- 39:06Speaker 11: beforehand because if you're a horror fan, it's worth it.
- 39:08Speaker 11: But where would you like to begin with this one?
- 39:11Speaker 10: Well, I was pleasantly surprised. I mean, I didn't know
- 39:14Speaker 10: this movie existed. It's obviously a year later.
- 39:16Speaker 8: I just didn't know.
- 39:18Speaker 10: I know I live under a rock with my eyes
- 39:21Speaker 10: closed in a cave.
- 39:21Speaker 11: It wasn't just you because it did not get a
- 39:23Speaker 11: lot of backing. I don't know what happened because I
- 39:26Speaker 11: know we we talked to daniel harris like a year
- 39:28Speaker 11: or so ago and she mentioned that she had been
- 39:30Speaker 11: making it was really you know interested in you know
- 39:32Speaker 11: it was a good project she was looking forward to
- 39:34Speaker 11: it coming out and then like i didn't hear anything
- 39:36Speaker 11: and then finally like one of our listeners was like
- 39:38Speaker 11: hey have you guys seen this it's out and so
- 39:40Speaker 11: i don't know where the premiere was i don't know
- 39:43Speaker 11: where the marketing went but yeah it's it's a shame
- 39:45Speaker 11: that it didn't get more.
- 39:46Speaker 10: Yeah I was stunned. Halfway through the movie, I thought, automatic,
- 39:52Speaker 10: going on my shelf. And I've got to say, not
- 39:54Speaker 10: many movies make it onto my shelf.
- 39:56Speaker 11: I've started narrowing it down these days. So it's impressive.
- 40:02Speaker 11: I don't know, what was your take on it?
- 40:04Speaker 8: Ah, jeez.
- 40:05Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 40:05Speaker 4: I mean, God, there's so much going on in this movie.
- 40:09Speaker 4: I think, like, I'll... I like that they.
- 40:12Speaker 31: Didn't give too much backstory because a lot of movies
- 40:14Speaker 31: kind of kill you with the backstory.
- 40:16Speaker 27: Oh, yeah.
- 40:16Speaker 12: You don't know where Mr. Scum is from. You don't
- 40:18Speaker 12: know what training he's had. All you know is he's
- 40:20Speaker 12: a badass.
- 40:21Speaker 10: It's like a situation that's just happening and you're watching it.
- 40:24Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 40:24Speaker 8: You don't necessarily need an explanation.
- 40:27Speaker 12: No.
- 40:28Speaker 8: I can respect that and appreciate that.
- 40:31Speaker 11: That's one of my favorite parts is that running thing
- 40:33Speaker 11: of watching them read old newspapers. And you sort of
- 40:37Speaker 11: see just the headlines of the world kind of falling apart.
- 40:39Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 40:39Speaker 10: Like you see.
- 40:40Speaker 11: You know, the city's falling apart, the government falling apart,
- 40:44Speaker 11: but you.
- 40:44Speaker 9: Just get those little glimpses here and there.
- 40:46Speaker 10: They don't have to give you a big flashback.
- 40:48Speaker 12: They don't have to get down for you.
- 40:50Speaker 8: They don't have to be like, what happened, stupid?
- 40:52Speaker 9: 15-minute montage, voiceover, explaining every little thing. It's just hints
- 40:56Speaker 9: of it.
- 40:57Speaker 12: And they throw you right into the shit.
- 40:58Speaker 11: They do.
- 40:59Speaker 10: Right immediately.
- 41:00Speaker 12: You're like, whoa.
- 41:02Speaker 10: I love that little bit of narrating here and there, too,
- 41:04Speaker 10: where he's kind of just talking about his experience.
- 41:06Speaker 8: Like, it's just enough background.
- 41:08Speaker 10: It really is.
- 41:09Speaker 8: And I hate I'm very critical when it comes to movies.
- 41:13Speaker 10: It's funny because my brother and I always talk about
- 41:15Speaker 10: if we would direct a movie, if we would make a.
- 41:17Speaker 8: Movie, main characters should die. There should be no happy ending.
- 41:20Speaker 8: There should be no stupid jokes.
- 41:21Speaker 10: There should be no happy moment with a funny song
- 41:24Speaker 10: where they have an innocent romp.
- 41:26Speaker 8: Before they realized where they were. There was none of
- 41:28Speaker 8: that cheese.
- 41:28Speaker 9: This one hits all those marks.
- 41:29Speaker 10: Lactose-free.
- 41:30Speaker 8: This movie was lactose-free.
- 41:32Speaker 26: Definitely.
- 41:33Speaker 12: And they had parts in it where you were just like, whoa,
- 41:35Speaker 12: I didn't see that coming. Geez, they really did that.
- 41:38Speaker 11: Well, like you were saying, like right off the bat,
- 41:40Speaker 11: you were like thrown in. Both of you were just,
- 41:43Speaker 11: we were like that scene with.
- 41:44Speaker 9: Him and his family.
- 41:45Speaker 10: That was pretty hardcore.
- 41:46Speaker 9: Specifically when they go out in the barn and the baby.
- 41:49Speaker 12: Yeah, the baby scene.
- 41:51Speaker 11: Just him looking for it is really scary. But at
- 41:54Speaker 11: the same time, you get to that baby, and it's
- 41:55Speaker 11: just like, oh, my God, that's horrible.
- 41:57Speaker 10: It's disturbing. I love it when I'm disturbed. And you
- 42:01Speaker 10: know what's funny? It's just reality. There's nothing fantastical about it.
- 42:05Speaker 10: I mean, other than it's, you know. But still, a
- 42:09Speaker 10: situation is a very real situation, and it hits home
- 42:11Speaker 10: if you have babies. And even if you don't, like,
- 42:14Speaker 10: it's just, hey, look, this is happening. So you immediately
- 42:17Speaker 10: get stunned at the beginning of the movie. Guess what?
- 42:20Speaker 10: It's like a car accident.
- 42:20Speaker 8: There's an accident. You're watching it.
- 42:22Speaker 10: You know grab onto your seat and get ready because
- 42:25Speaker 10: it only gets better from here it i mean.
- 42:27Speaker 11: I mean it definitely sets the tone right off the
- 42:28Speaker 11: bat i mean most movies most studio movies wouldn't even
- 42:32Speaker 11: consider killing a child oh.
- 42:34Speaker 10: No that goes against the demographic and such such sponsors.
- 42:37Speaker 11: Let alone an infant and this one we're like two
- 42:40Speaker 11: minutes in and it happened i'm just like oh wow
- 42:42Speaker 11: you really know you're in for that kind of a
- 42:44Speaker 11: movie when right off the bat they do that but Yeah,
- 42:47Speaker 11: that scene's one of the most impressive in the whole movie.
- 42:49Speaker 10: That scene to me just read right from the beginning
- 42:52Speaker 10: and said class. The movie has class, and it's getting
- 42:55Speaker 10: ready to be serious.
- 42:57Speaker 9: Definitely.
- 42:59Speaker 10: And don't get me wrong, I like a little cheese
- 43:01Speaker 10: in stuff.
- 43:02Speaker 8: I'm a big fan.
- 43:02Speaker 10: Of Dead Alive.
- 43:04Speaker 8: Or things like that.
- 43:06Speaker 9: Army of Darkness kind of cheese.
- 43:07Speaker 10: Yeah, you've got to love Bruce Campbell. But this is
- 43:11Speaker 10: a whole separate animal.
- 43:13Speaker 8: From the beginning, I was just locked in.
- 43:16Speaker 10: It's very different.
- 43:17Speaker 9: I guess we can go into some of the characters,
- 43:19Speaker 9: and what do you think of Mister... I thought Mr.
- 43:21Speaker 8: Was pretty cool.
- 43:22Speaker 11: That guy hasn't been in a lot of other stuff.
- 43:24Speaker 11: The director did one other movie before this, and he's
- 43:26Speaker 11: in that. And other than that, I don't think he's
- 43:28Speaker 11: got a lot of stuff.
- 43:29Speaker 10: He's a good actor.
- 43:29Speaker 2: For sure.
- 43:30Speaker 12: He's a really good actor.
- 43:32Speaker 11: He's good at just being very cold and pissed off. But,
- 43:35Speaker 11: I mean, I don't know what he would have to
- 43:36Speaker 11: do if he has to be in a romantic comedy.
- 43:38Speaker 11: I don't know what this guy's going to do.
- 43:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 43:41Speaker 31: One of the great things about it, too, is they
- 43:42Speaker 31: didn't give a backstory on him at all.
- 43:44Speaker 12: So you don't know who died. You obviously know something
- 43:46Speaker 12: happened to him.
- 43:47Speaker 10: Yeah, his family was.
- 43:48Speaker 12: But they don't have to go into the, oh.
- 43:50Speaker 31: You know, you killed my teacher, or, you know, you
- 43:52Speaker 31: killed my kid, or you killed my wife, or any
- 43:55Speaker 31: of that.
- 43:55Speaker 10: I love Benji!
- 43:56Speaker 8: Replacing anybody or anything.
- 43:58Speaker 12: Yeah, no, it's just, he's out, and he's staking the
- 44:01Speaker 12: hell out of vampires.
- 44:02Speaker 8: And he is a badass. He really is.
- 44:03Speaker 10: He really is just, like, one of those guys you
- 44:05Speaker 10: can't really hug, you know?
- 44:06Speaker 8: You really want to hang out with, though, because he's
- 44:08Speaker 8: super cool.
- 44:09Speaker 9: There's no nice moment with him.
- 44:10Speaker 11: Like, even towards the end, even the most little touching
- 44:13Speaker 11: moment of, I guess, the handoff is, you know, we'll
- 44:16Speaker 11: get to the end, I guess, but.
- 44:17Speaker 9: There's that little moment of.
- 44:18Speaker 11: Him passing on the torch to the kid, and it's like,
- 44:21Speaker 11: even then, it's detached.
- 44:23Speaker 9: He's gone. It's cold. And I'm just like, yeah, there's
- 44:26Speaker 9: never a warm moment with him.
- 44:28Speaker 10: Yeah, and that right there is very, very commendable. Like,
- 44:32Speaker 10: the movie does not hit those, you know, specific formula
- 44:36Speaker 10: chords that need to be hit that, you know, these
- 44:38Speaker 10: big Hollywood movies seem to have to follow. And right
- 44:42Speaker 10: then and there is when you know that a movie
- 44:44Speaker 10: gets separated from the herd.
- 44:46Speaker 9: Definitely, definitely. What about Martin himself?
- 44:51Speaker 11: I mean, I think for a young actor, it's amazing
- 44:54Speaker 11: how much, again, most of this movie is sort of
- 44:56Speaker 11: thrust upon him.
- 44:57Speaker 9: He becomes kind of the main character, and I think
- 45:00Speaker 9: he holds his own.
- 45:00Speaker 11: I think he ends up not being overly cheesy. He's
- 45:03Speaker 11: not a whiny kid, really. He kind of steps up
- 45:06Speaker 11: and does what needs to be done.
- 45:07Speaker 31: Yeah, but you're watching him. You're watching him kind of
- 45:10Speaker 31: grow and, you know. You're like, at first, when you
- 45:12Speaker 31: first see him, you're like, dude, this kid's going to die.
- 45:14Speaker 10: There's no way.
- 45:15Speaker 9: He's going to have Mr.
- 45:16Speaker 12: Having to keep his ass alive constantly.
- 45:18Speaker 8: I'm just glad they didn't have any, like, Justin Bieber hairdo.
- 45:21Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 45:22Speaker 9: I thought they would have brought in the teen demographic.
- 45:25Speaker 15: Come on, man. Totally.
- 45:26Speaker 10: They didn't target that demographic. A lot of cool shows
- 45:29Speaker 10: I've seen, specifically TV shows, series where you see that
- 45:35Speaker 10: formula get run through over and over again.
- 45:38Speaker 8: It's always a young actor that kind of kills it.
- 45:40Speaker 10: Because he needs to be like a heartthrob, or he
- 45:41Speaker 10: needs to appeal, you know, he needs to be twilight-y
- 45:44Speaker 10: or whatever.
- 45:44Speaker 8: And I'm glad that he didn't, he definitely contributed to
- 45:48Speaker 8: the movie.
- 45:49Speaker 10: I was pretty impressed, man.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Yeah, pretty impressed.
- 45:51Speaker 12: I think the vampires in this thing were not at
- 45:54Speaker 12: all romantic.
- 45:55Speaker 8: No, no.
- 45:56Speaker 10: I would be one of those.
- 45:58Speaker 12: They're almost a cross between vampires and zombies.
- 46:01Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, the whole thing felt kind of almost
- 46:03Speaker 11: like a zombie. It's kind of the same thing I
- 46:05Speaker 11: said about From Dusk Till Dawn. It's like, you can
- 46:07Speaker 11: call those vampires, but it's a zombie movie. I mean,
- 46:11Speaker 11: it plays like a zombie movie, and that's almost what
- 46:13Speaker 11: this was. It was almost like a mixture of... I
- 46:17Speaker 11: guess jokingly, to work in, like, it had a very
- 46:19Speaker 11: Zombieland feel to it, almost.
- 46:21Speaker 9: As a structure.
- 46:22Speaker 8: But in real life.
- 46:24Speaker 9: And then I was like, the tone is more like, um,
- 46:27Speaker 9: it's the one with, uh, shit. Ah, shit, now I've
- 46:32Speaker 9: lost it. Trying to think what the other, uh, it'll
- 46:35Speaker 9: come to. I didn't write that one down.
- 46:37Speaker 8: But see, I'm a big zombie buff.
- 46:39Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 46:39Speaker 8: I love zombies.
- 46:40Speaker 10: Got zombie line of cakes, zombie stuff all over the place.
- 46:44Speaker 10: And I totally saw that connection, and I appreciate it,
- 46:46Speaker 10: because it's like, there's no superpower, there's no, like, this, like, elegant, like,
- 46:51Speaker 10: supreme being vampire existence. These are really, like, mindless people that,
- 46:56Speaker 10: they have, like, this crazy strength and these abilities, obviously,
- 47:00Speaker 10: but they're just, like, squealing wild animals.
- 47:02Speaker 11: It is closer to, like, a 28 Days Later kind
- 47:04Speaker 11: of monster, because.
- 47:05Speaker 9: They're just animals.
- 47:07Speaker 31: It's a very believable virus, too. I mean, you're sitting
- 47:10Speaker 31: back and you're going, yeah, that could happen.
- 47:12Speaker 10: You know?
- 47:12Speaker 12: That could really happen, not the.
- 47:14Speaker 10: you know, blah.
- 47:17Speaker 9: Not that that's not fun, too.
- 47:19Speaker 10: Oh, yeah, that's good.
- 47:20Speaker 8: It all has its place.
- 47:21Speaker 9: In a very different movie.
- 47:23Speaker 10: This concept of vampire blew me away because it was
- 47:25Speaker 10: different and it wasn't, but it was just so unique,
- 47:28Speaker 10: you know?
- 47:28Speaker 9: It kind of found a good medium.
- 47:31Speaker 11: It's like it plays on the basic structure of vampirism,
- 47:34Speaker 11: but at the same time it finds a new way
- 47:36Speaker 11: to do it, and it doesn't seem like something you've
- 47:38Speaker 11: seen a hundred times over. But it doesn't go Twilight
- 47:41Speaker 11: and throw the rules out the window. It still feels
- 47:43Speaker 11: like it's rooted in the vampire mythos, but it's still
- 47:46Speaker 11: sort of, you know, a realistic version, a more animalistic version.
- 47:51Speaker 8: And I appreciate that there were no garlic bullets.
- 47:53Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 47:55Speaker 12: But it was.
- 47:56Speaker 31: It was the worst, if you could think of, the
- 47:59Speaker 31: worst traits out of both vampires and zombies that you
- 48:03Speaker 31: would not want to face.
- 48:04Speaker 8: You know, I mean, you've got the.
- 48:06Speaker 31: I don't know, just the fact that they come at
- 48:08Speaker 31: you almost mindless like zombies.
- 48:10Speaker 27: They're animalistic.
- 48:11Speaker 8: I mean, it's just, it's attack.
- 48:12Speaker 12: And they hunt.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:13Speaker 10: They, you know, they hunt you down.
- 48:16Speaker 8: They're preying on you.
- 48:17Speaker 23: Yeah.
- 48:18Speaker 8: It's pretty creepy.
- 48:19Speaker 31: There wasn't any, you know, there's no banter with the vampire. Oh,
- 48:23Speaker 31: I'm going to kill you now, but first I'm going
- 48:24Speaker 31: to do this and that. They were just, they were scary.
- 48:28Speaker 26: Yeah.
- 48:28Speaker 10: I love that.
- 48:29Speaker 8: There's like, where they have to, they're not safe, you know?
- 48:33Speaker 8: It's nighttime, it's nightfall, we have to set up camp.
- 48:35Speaker 10: Ever.
- 48:35Speaker 8: We have to set up traps, like, so that we
- 48:37Speaker 8: can get alerted to this.
- 48:39Speaker 10: Exactly. And they kind of expect that they're going to come,
- 48:41Speaker 10: and they expect that they have to deal with it.
- 48:43Speaker 10: And there's never, like, this safe haven. It's always like,
- 48:46Speaker 10: if you can find a building, even then, like, you
- 48:48Speaker 10: really have to be ready, because you never know.
- 48:50Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, in The Walking Dead, they kind of
- 48:52Speaker 11: had that scenario, too. It felt like those moments in
- 48:55Speaker 11: there where it's like, We set up camp, but we're
- 48:57Speaker 11: still never really safe. At any given moment, something's going
- 48:59Speaker 11: to break in. So, again, it's got that sort of
- 49:01Speaker 11: zombie feel to it.
- 49:02Speaker 31: Yeah, and it doesn't give you that safe feeling like
- 49:06Speaker 31: you were saying with certain movies where you're watching it
- 49:08Speaker 31: and you're all tense for.
- 49:09Speaker 8: The action, and then there's this, okay, we're safe.
- 49:11Speaker 12: Okay, now I can just kind of calm down a
- 49:12Speaker 12: little bit.
- 49:14Speaker 10: There is no no it seemed like throughout this whole
- 49:16Speaker 10: movie they were either getting by like.
- 49:19Speaker 8: Just making it or dealing with some really screwed up.
- 49:21Speaker 10: Stuff like this horrible reality or not and then they
- 49:24Speaker 10: were kind of making it again and then it was
- 49:26Speaker 10: this horrible reality again there was no like peaceful time
- 49:29Speaker 10: of like let's run through the forest because we found
- 49:31Speaker 10: a car and.
- 49:32Speaker 11: So there's none of that notes And there's never like
- 49:35Speaker 11: a safe haven at all. Like in a lot of those,
- 49:37Speaker 11: you end up also getting that like kind of night
- 49:39Speaker 11: of the living dead where you wall yourself in and
- 49:41Speaker 11: then you've got a place to fight them. Like they never,
- 49:43Speaker 11: for more than a scene, stay in one place. They
- 49:46Speaker 11: keep moving, which makes it equally like there's no safety
- 49:49Speaker 11: to it. They're always back in the car, back on
- 49:51Speaker 11: the road, equally as exposed.
- 49:53Speaker 10: Because they spend so much time fortifying like a car
- 49:56Speaker 10: or a building.
- 49:57Speaker 8: Like as night falls. Then they spend the night, but
- 50:00Speaker 8: then they leave.
- 50:00Speaker 9: And then they turn around and, yeah, and then they
- 50:02Speaker 9: start all over the next night.
- 50:03Speaker 8: Yeah, that's so cool.
- 50:04Speaker 10: I mean, that is just, like, exactly what I would
- 50:06Speaker 10: picture from, like, post-apocalyptic adaption, survival.
- 50:11Speaker 11: That's what, yeah, just the basic stuff, like chain-linking the car,
- 50:14Speaker 11: and it's like, that stuff is kind of cool, and
- 50:15Speaker 11: it's like, I haven't seen that before.
- 50:17Speaker 9: That was kind of interesting.
- 50:18Speaker 10: Usually they bolt that, and it's like a battering ram, supercar,
- 50:21Speaker 10: and there was none of that. Yeah, there was no.
- 50:24Speaker 12: Finding, just happened to find a welder and some torches, and,
- 50:27Speaker 12: you know, we're going to make some.
- 50:28Speaker 10: it was very much like look I found a safe
- 50:31Speaker 10: oh I could sleep in that for the night you
- 50:32Speaker 10: know lock myself in get some sleep and then carry
- 50:35Speaker 10: on it was pretty cool.
- 50:37Speaker 11: Oh I guess some of the other characters um we've
- 50:40Speaker 11: got like the the sister it's that again it took
- 50:43Speaker 11: me I knew she was in this movie but it
- 50:45Speaker 11: took me like a couple of scenes to go wait
- 50:47Speaker 11: is that Kelly McGillis.
- 50:48Speaker 9: Yeah like that.
- 50:50Speaker 11: Was yeah that took me a while like I had
- 50:52Speaker 11: not seen her and granted she'd stopped working for many
- 50:54Speaker 11: years so it's weird to see her come back she
- 50:57Speaker 11: was in I mean, her big movie was, like, Witness
- 51:01Speaker 11: and Top Gun. And then, like, after that, she did
- 51:03Speaker 11: some straight-to-VHS stuff. And then she kind of just got
- 51:06Speaker 11: out of it. And, again, for a while, I think she, like,
- 51:09Speaker 11: owned a restaurant with her husband and was just, like,
- 51:11Speaker 11: being a normal person. And then, I guess, now it's
- 51:13Speaker 11: started coming back into the scene.
- 51:14Speaker 10: And then I thought, all right, here comes the big religious, like, angle.
- 51:20Speaker 10: And then pleasantly surprised to see how her character developed
- 51:23Speaker 10: and what kind of happened with it.
- 51:24Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 51:25Speaker 32: Yeah.
- 51:25Speaker 10: Not expecting her to just blend into the nightmare.
- 51:28Speaker 11: Well, again, talk about, like, not pulling any punches. I mean,
- 51:31Speaker 11: let's look at our introduction to her.
- 51:34Speaker 10: Yeah, really.
- 51:34Speaker 9: Like, that's a horrible, horrible scene. And once again, being
- 51:38Speaker 9: put upon with a nun.
- 51:39Speaker 11: And I was just like, it's taking all these conventions
- 51:41Speaker 11: and just, like, completely destroying them.
- 51:45Speaker 8: And it's so cool.
- 51:45Speaker 10: It's like, that's the reality. Like, when there's no authority,
- 51:49Speaker 10: you know, people revert to being animals. And guess what?
- 51:52Speaker 10: If you're in that scenario and you're in that environment...
- 51:56Speaker 10: You can.
- 51:56Speaker 8: Expect, you know, rape, murder, stealing.
- 52:00Speaker 10: The things that people try to ignore and bubble wrap
- 52:03Speaker 10: their kids about and not really expose them to, those
- 52:07Speaker 10: are realities. They really are.
- 52:08Speaker 8: People forget how.
- 52:09Speaker 10: Close you are to these realities, even in the safe
- 52:11Speaker 10: world that we live in, not necessarily on the set
- 52:13Speaker 10: of a movie.
- 52:14Speaker 8: And I think that that's what did it for me.
- 52:16Speaker 10: This person really didn't, the director really didn't, like, sugarcoat anything,
- 52:22Speaker 10: you know?
- 52:23Speaker 8: Like, he went into this world and he's like, I'm
- 52:25Speaker 8: all in.
- 52:26Speaker 10: You know, these are the things that can happen, and
- 52:28Speaker 10: let's cover as much effed up stuff as we possibly can.
- 52:31Speaker 9: I bet they do.
- 52:34Speaker 10: I really connected with the character. I was really sad
- 52:36Speaker 10: to see what happened there.
- 52:38Speaker 11: With all of them, like even Danielle Harris, I mean,
- 52:41Speaker 11: she gets worked in as a pretty sizable role, and
- 52:43Speaker 11: this is one of the few times, yeah, she plays
- 52:45Speaker 11: like she gets a chance to almost be kind of
- 52:48Speaker 11: her age. Like, she's usually being shoved back as a,
- 52:50Speaker 11: you know, she's played a high schooler into her 30s now,
- 52:53Speaker 11: so it's like, She's kind of playing a normal woman, and.
- 52:56Speaker 9: She's kind of dealing with this pregnancy. Yeah, and that's
- 52:58Speaker 9: the thing.
- 52:59Speaker 12: She's pregnant in this universe.
- 53:00Speaker 31: I mean, what worse way can you think of being
- 53:03Speaker 31: in this situation than being pregnant, too?
- 53:05Speaker 10: That is so cool, because all of a sudden it's
- 53:07Speaker 10: like this horrible problem. It's this beautiful thing, but at
- 53:10Speaker 10: the same time everyone's thinking, oh, my God, when this
- 53:13Speaker 10: baby comes here.
- 53:14Speaker 8: What are we going to do? And it's just, there's
- 53:16Speaker 8: so many.
- 53:17Speaker 10: Layers of, like, problems that it's just, it's amazing, man.
- 53:22Speaker 10: Whoever thought this screen could play out in the story
- 53:24Speaker 10: was just brilliant.
- 53:25Speaker 8: Just brilliant.
- 53:27Speaker 9: It never really leaves that either. Those horrible problems just
- 53:31Speaker 9: continue from one scene to the next. We get each
- 53:34Speaker 9: one of these little jams.
- 53:35Speaker 10: They get out of.
- 53:36Speaker 9: If they get out of it, most of the time
- 53:37Speaker 9: they lose.
- 53:38Speaker 12: Someone in the process.
- 53:40Speaker 10: Oh my god.
- 53:41Speaker 9: That's so hard to deal with.
- 53:42Speaker 8: Dropping vampires.
- 53:44Speaker 10: From a helicopter into the town safe haven.
- 53:47Speaker 12: What a crazy situation.
- 53:50Speaker 8: My God. It's at one point.
- 53:51Speaker 31: Just like, you know, it's where you think they're actually
- 53:54Speaker 31: kind of safe for a little bit.
- 53:55Speaker 4: You're like, hey, now we can rest.
- 53:57Speaker 10: No time to rest.
- 53:58Speaker 11: That one little mention of the back story of them
- 54:01Speaker 11: sending a plane full of them into Washington, D.C., was it?
- 54:04Speaker 9: And that's how they ended up shutting.
- 54:05Speaker 11: Down the government was this terrorist group basically sent a
- 54:08Speaker 11: plane full of zombies into the.
- 54:10Speaker 14: Capital, huh?
- 54:11Speaker 11: It's like, what a world you created in this.
- 54:15Speaker 8: Somebody's definitely thinking about this movie for a while.
- 54:18Speaker 10: It was well thought out.
- 54:19Speaker 8: When I saw the.
- 54:22Speaker 10: Vamp bombs, if you will, I thought that was just
- 54:24Speaker 10: the most amazing thing.
- 54:25Speaker 8: I was thinking the same thing.
- 54:27Speaker 27: I'm like, what a bunch of assholes.
- 54:30Speaker 10: What an asshole thing to do, man.
- 54:32Speaker 8: Just middle of the night, chopper dropping vampires.
- 54:36Speaker 9: That's what I was thinking.
- 54:37Speaker 11: I was like, You know, this world has fallen apart.
- 54:40Speaker 11: Things couldn't get any worse. Oh, wait.
- 54:42Speaker 3: Yes, they can.
- 54:43Speaker 11: Some asshole just dropped a vampire into our town.
- 54:46Speaker 12: Yeah, you didn't talk about who's dropping him.
- 54:49Speaker 9: Yeah, go into that guy.
- 54:51Speaker 8: The crazy rebel.
- 54:52Speaker 10: Yeah. Unbelievable.
- 54:53Speaker 8: This is for you, mister.
- 55:00Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 55:01Speaker 9: We know who you are. You kill them that come back.
- 55:05Speaker 8: Them that serve.
- 55:07Speaker 33: Us, them that God brought down to do his work.
- 55:11Speaker 33: Leaving us to purify the blood of our fathers. And
- 55:16Speaker 33: when that day comes, he will bring them back. Peace
- 55:20Speaker 33: and purity will reign on the earth forever.
- 55:25Speaker 2: Amen.
- 55:26Speaker 34: Amen.
- 55:30Speaker 10: What do you have to say for yourself, sinner?
- 55:39Speaker 3: Fuck you and fuck your God.
- 55:44Speaker 9: That's the problem.
- 55:44Speaker 8: They couldn't go anywhere.
- 55:46Speaker 31: It seemed like all the main roads were blocked by
- 55:48Speaker 31: this brotherhood of just religious nuts.
- 55:50Speaker 10: And that's crazy, man, because you hear the preaching over
- 55:53Speaker 10: the radio that they catch, and it's like, we offer
- 55:56Speaker 10: safe haven for all of our white brothers and people.
- 55:59Speaker 8: And it's just like, wow.
- 56:01Speaker 9: Once it sets in, you see who takes over.
- 56:03Speaker 10: If the vampires aren't enough, now you've got this to
- 56:05Speaker 10: deal with.
- 56:06Speaker 8: It's just unbelievable.
- 56:08Speaker 12: Easy Aryan backwards cult.
- 56:10Speaker 9: And sort of religious, too.
- 56:11Speaker 11: It works in that early religious thing with her, and
- 56:14Speaker 11: she sort.
- 56:15Speaker 9: Of loses her faith, almost.
- 56:17Speaker 11: She kind of is the only constant within the religious thing.
- 56:21Speaker 11: But then he comes in, and religion almost becomes the
- 56:24Speaker 11: villain to it.
- 56:25Speaker 9: That is what is destroying it. It's this fanaticism that.
- 56:29Speaker 11: He's using to his advantage to take over power at
- 56:33Speaker 11: this point.
- 56:33Speaker 8: You can see that stuff today.
- 56:35Speaker 10: People take advantage of religion all the time for personal gains.
- 56:39Speaker 8: And that's kind of like the ultimate, you know? That's
- 56:42Speaker 8: one of the reasons why I like Dr. Who so much.
- 56:44Speaker 10: Not to get off the subject, but if you think
- 56:45Speaker 10: of the Daleks and they're creating this superior race, it
- 56:49Speaker 10: kind of relates to fascism and Hitler. And it's like
- 56:52Speaker 10: something that exists here in our world, in our time,
- 56:55Speaker 10: but it's taken to a complete extreme.
- 56:57Speaker 8: And that's how that cult was.
- 56:59Speaker 10: It was like they're super, they're way beyond Ned Flanders,
- 57:02Speaker 10: super religious and Kind of.
- 57:04Speaker 8: Just doing what they want when they want to.
- 57:06Speaker 12: But not far from being real. It's not out there.
- 57:10Speaker 12: It can't happen.
- 57:11Speaker 10: Like a compound of people who decided to take on
- 57:14Speaker 10: this religion.
- 57:15Speaker 8: Well, they're able to patrol and kind of.
- 57:18Speaker 10: take martial law of their area and they did yeah
- 57:21Speaker 10: i mean those kind.
- 57:21Speaker 11: Of groups are out there right now so you think
- 57:24Speaker 11: if everything starts to fall apart if they're the ones
- 57:26Speaker 11: that step up they're going to be the ones in power.
- 57:28Speaker 10: Oh yeah if it really happened you can imagine texas
- 57:31Speaker 10: really be in its own country and how about that
- 57:34Speaker 10: they come into a town you know they that sound
- 57:37Speaker 10: that they were in the first lockdown is that what
- 57:39Speaker 10: they call it yeah and you know they get strip
- 57:41Speaker 10: searched and they're like you know get out of the
- 57:42Speaker 10: freaking car and all that stuff and bad does that suck?
- 57:45Speaker 8: You've got nothing but yourself.
- 57:48Speaker 10: You're coming into a town expecting help and you don't
- 57:51Speaker 10: know what you're going to get.
- 57:51Speaker 11: They operate on their own set of rules.
- 57:54Speaker 10: Or the Aryans or the Brotherhood when they stop that
- 57:58Speaker 10: one car and they tell the guy to get out
- 58:00Speaker 10: of the car and they kill him.
- 58:02Speaker 8: I'm sure that guy was like, oh my god, people, civilization,
- 58:04Speaker 8: thank god. And for nothing.
- 58:06Speaker 9: He didn't even fight them. They said get out and
- 58:08Speaker 9: they shot him. It was for nothing.
- 58:11Speaker 6: Wow.
- 58:12Speaker 8: Can you imagine that?
- 58:13Speaker 10: You're going through hell. You probably survive at least a
- 58:15Speaker 10: little bit of this nightmare. Yeah.
- 58:18Speaker 8: You make it to civilization. The first human contact are
- 58:20Speaker 8: these crazy nutjobs.
- 58:22Speaker 10: And these hooded, like, upside-down cross little outfits of theirs. Crazy.
- 58:26Speaker 8: What a horrible, horrible experience.
- 58:29Speaker 15: Oh, man.
- 58:30Speaker 8: This movie, like, just never stops delivering.
- 58:32Speaker 26: Yeah.
- 58:33Speaker 9: Just one thing after another. And that's what I was
- 58:34Speaker 9: going to get to, I guess. Just, like... Talk about
- 58:37Speaker 9: how much... And I get super spoiler alert.
- 58:39Speaker 11: But yeah, it's just how many people they take out.
- 58:41Speaker 11: I mean, we lose pretty much the entire cast, so...
- 58:45Speaker 11: And how much time they spend with them. It's not
- 58:47Speaker 11: like it's one of those where they introduce somebody just
- 58:49Speaker 11: to kill them off.
- 58:50Speaker 6: Oh, no.
- 58:51Speaker 9: Because you spend, like, 20 minutes with half the.
- 58:53Speaker 11: I mean, every time you meet somebody new, you spend
- 58:55Speaker 11: a good amount of time with them, you get to
- 58:56Speaker 11: know them, and then they're killed.
- 58:58Speaker 8: You're like, doesn't it build up a group?
- 58:59Speaker 12: You're like, yeah, okay, they're going to be safe.
- 59:01Speaker 8: And they have roles, right?
- 59:02Speaker 10: Oh, no, now there's more of them.
- 59:03Speaker 8: They should be safer.
- 59:04Speaker 9: And that's what.
- 59:05Speaker 11: I think is really interesting, is they also have this
- 59:08Speaker 11: little makeshift family that they.
- 59:10Speaker 9: become.
- 59:10Speaker 11: And it really, like, there's even that one moment of
- 59:12Speaker 11: kind of reflection there where it's just like, this is,
- 59:15Speaker 11: you know, what I lost. This is the family that
- 59:17Speaker 11: I lost in the beginning, and now I have this
- 59:19Speaker 11: slightly bigger family. And everybody does kind of have that role,
- 59:23Speaker 11: and there's dad and mom and sister.
- 59:24Speaker 10: I mean, it is.
- 59:26Speaker 11: kind of nice but at the same time you know
- 59:29Speaker 11: it's not going to go well like when he said
- 59:30Speaker 11: that I was just like.
- 59:31Speaker 10: Oh shit someone's about to flip a switch on the
- 59:33Speaker 10: manure spreader that means.
- 59:35Speaker 11: So many of your family are about to die because
- 59:37Speaker 11: you can't have happiness in this movie and.
- 59:39Speaker 10: I was genuinely sad I couldn't I unfortunately couldn't watch
- 59:43Speaker 10: the movie with my wife and she's a big movie
- 59:45Speaker 10: buff with me and I was she said how was
- 59:49Speaker 10: it and I said oh my god not only was
- 59:51Speaker 10: it so good it was incredibly sad it was just
- 59:54Speaker 10: so well like put together like i connected with these
- 59:58Speaker 10: characters i like them and started dying left and right
- 1:00:01Speaker 10: and not just kind of like you know you know
- 1:00:03Speaker 10: oh they got me kind of way it's usually like
- 1:00:05Speaker 10: oh my god that's so terrible like.
- 1:00:08Speaker 11: Ruins the i mean as horrible as the tone already
- 1:00:11Speaker 11: is you're just like oh it just took it down
- 1:00:12Speaker 11: a level it's like that's right i'm old and i
- 1:00:15Speaker 11: can't run as far as you can so i'm just
- 1:00:17Speaker 11: gonna stop just gonna kill myself yep jesus christ it's
- 1:00:20Speaker 11: terrible Or by the time they're, like, setting traps and, like,
- 1:00:24Speaker 11: killing off your family just to mess with you, you know.
- 1:00:26Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:00:27Speaker 9: By the end, it's just, oh, God, it's depressing.
- 1:00:30Speaker 8: It is so bad. It is so bad.
- 1:00:32Speaker 10: But so good.
- 1:00:33Speaker 11: So that was, I mean, that was going to be my,
- 1:00:35Speaker 11: if I had any sort of complaint about it, I guess, is, like,
- 1:00:39Speaker 11: I think it would almost be way too dark and
- 1:00:41Speaker 11: depressing for some people. I mean, you've got to know
- 1:00:44Speaker 11: what you're getting yourself.
- 1:00:45Speaker 9: Into in this movie.
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: It's a gritty, gritty film.
- 1:00:47Speaker 9: Because that was, I mean, that was Missy's take on it.
- 1:00:49Speaker 11: She didn't like it and it was because it was just,
- 1:00:51Speaker 11: the tone of it is so depressing and so horrific,
- 1:00:55Speaker 11: you know?
- 1:00:56Speaker 12: It's close to reality.
- 1:00:57Speaker 11: And that was, that was by the end of it.
- 1:00:58Speaker 11: I was like, I love everything that's going on. I
- 1:01:00Speaker 11: think it's really well put together. And I got to
- 1:01:02Speaker 11: the end and I was like, I kind of want
- 1:01:03Speaker 11: to go kill myself.
- 1:01:04Speaker 8: You know, it's kind of like reading an H.P. Lovecraft
- 1:01:07Speaker 8: story where you, you.
- 1:01:09Speaker 10: It's not so much like a good guy, bad guy,
- 1:01:11Speaker 10: or there's no obvious monster. It's kind of just dealing
- 1:01:15Speaker 10: with the reality of bad things happening and you having
- 1:01:18Speaker 10: no control over them happening. And you're just doing the
- 1:01:21Speaker 10: best you can to deal with them. Usually the hero
- 1:01:24Speaker 10: in a story for Lovecraft ends up losing his mind
- 1:01:27Speaker 10: at the end.
- 1:01:28Speaker 8: There's no happy ending. And that's how I felt with
- 1:01:30Speaker 8: this movie.
- 1:01:30Speaker 11: How could you not in this world? I mean, thinking
- 1:01:32Speaker 11: about that, like the fact that how long has Mr.
- 1:01:34Speaker 11: been doing this and how long is the kid going
- 1:01:36Speaker 11: to be doing this? I'm like, how could you be sane?
- 1:01:38Speaker 11: in a world like this, where everything is anarchy, and
- 1:01:42Speaker 11: everyone you love is constantly being killed on a daily basis.
- 1:01:45Speaker 8: If you're looking for a.
- 1:01:45Speaker 10: Happy ending, or you're very lighthearted in your love of
- 1:01:49Speaker 10: horror movies.
- 1:01:51Speaker 8: Do not see this movie.
- 1:01:52Speaker 9: Do not watch it. This is not a fun movie
- 1:01:54Speaker 9: for you. It would make you cry. It's a hard watch.
- 1:01:57Speaker 10: That would make me cry.
- 1:01:57Speaker 8: And I'm a grown man, that's not it.
- 1:01:59Speaker 9: No, it's a hard watch. So that was kind of
- 1:02:02Speaker 9: my thing.
- 1:02:03Speaker 11: But I think, especially in talking about it here, I
- 1:02:05Speaker 11: think it is one of those that also you kind
- 1:02:06Speaker 11: of gain a little respect for it the longer because
- 1:02:10Speaker 11: when I first turned off I was like god that
- 1:02:12Speaker 11: was depressing and I wasn't even sure how much I
- 1:02:14Speaker 11: liked it and like by the next day I was
- 1:02:16Speaker 11: like oh that was really well done and the more
- 1:02:17Speaker 11: I thought about it afterwards I was like it was
- 1:02:19Speaker 11: kind of amazing like what the world that they build
- 1:02:22Speaker 11: and what they put together and the performances so yeah
- 1:02:24Speaker 11: it's like with a little time I've even like grown
- 1:02:26Speaker 11: to respect it a little more as a movie but
- 1:02:29Speaker 11: it's a hard watch I watched.
- 1:02:30Speaker 10: It maybe 12 hours ago you know and in those
- 1:02:34Speaker 10: 12 hours I've gone from wow, that was really dark.
- 1:02:37Speaker 8: It was just so twisted. It was disturbing. To recommending
- 1:02:41Speaker 8: it to my wife.
- 1:02:42Speaker 10: And then now I'm sitting here working today and before
- 1:02:45Speaker 10: we started this, I'm recommending it to everyone. It's a
- 1:02:47Speaker 10: must see. I'll buy it for you so you can
- 1:02:50Speaker 10: watch it. You have to see this movie. You have
- 1:02:52Speaker 10: to witness the greatness. So yeah, as the time went by,
- 1:02:56Speaker 10: I realized how many things were made well and how
- 1:02:58Speaker 10: much I really appreciated how well the things were made.
- 1:03:02Speaker 10: The storyline is amazing. The scenes are spectacular. The effects
- 1:03:07Speaker 10: are great.
- 1:03:07Speaker 8: They're good enough. You know, except for the whole, like, slobbering.
- 1:03:11Speaker 10: Blood type of kind of messy thing.
- 1:03:14Speaker 11: I think for as limited a budget as they were,
- 1:03:17Speaker 11: you can hardly tell. Like, I mean, to me, it
- 1:03:18Speaker 11: looks like a pretty well-financed movie. And there's moments where
- 1:03:21Speaker 11: I'm like, okay, they're dealing with budget limitations.
- 1:03:24Speaker 10: I noticed at the beginning there was a credit to
- 1:03:27Speaker 10: Belladonna Productions.
- 1:03:28Speaker 8: I wonder if that's Belladonna the porn star. She has
- 1:03:32Speaker 8: a production company.
- 1:03:32Speaker 9: You take your money wherever you can get it.
- 1:03:34Speaker 10: That's right, man. But you know, another thing I loved
- 1:03:38Speaker 10: about this, which is something that really caught my attention
- 1:03:42Speaker 10: with the old Doctor Who, is the creepy music. The
- 1:03:46Speaker 10: score for this is outstanding. The music is just like
- 1:03:50Speaker 10: right on the moment for moods.
- 1:03:53Speaker 8: There's enough of it. There's not too much. There's not
- 1:03:54Speaker 8: too little.
- 1:03:56Speaker 10: I love it when music fits the movie. I think
- 1:04:01Speaker 10: all of it was custom made. It was like a
- 1:04:02Speaker 10: custom tailored suit for this movie. There was no cheesy...
- 1:04:06Speaker 10: Rock and roll moments or anything like that. No power ballads.
- 1:04:10Speaker 10: No power ballads.
- 1:04:12Speaker 8: There was a lot of creepy, like, just really cool.
- 1:04:15Speaker 9: Just sort of mood setting, yeah.
- 1:04:17Speaker 10: And it was just awesome. I loved it.
- 1:04:20Speaker 11: Very cool. Well, I remembered my other end of the
- 1:04:22Speaker 11: spectrum there when I was trying to, I came up with,
- 1:04:26Speaker 11: as I was watching, I was like, okay, it's kind
- 1:04:28Speaker 11: of like a Zombieland setup with the tone of the road,
- 1:04:32Speaker 11: which I don't know if you've seen the road, but it's,
- 1:04:34Speaker 11: horribly depressing, it's just a father and son walking around
- 1:04:36Speaker 11: this wasteland of, you know, the world has been destroyed,
- 1:04:40Speaker 11: everyone's trying to kill you, there's people cannibalizing each other,
- 1:04:43Speaker 11: so it is one of those, if you're familiar with
- 1:04:45Speaker 11: The Road, it's that kind of tone, only done in
- 1:04:48Speaker 11: more of an action, I mean, The Road is pretty slow-paced,
- 1:04:50Speaker 11: and there's no vampires, it's just people kind of, you know,
- 1:04:53Speaker 11: killing each other, whereas this has a lot more set
- 1:04:56Speaker 11: pieces of action, and it's a lot more faster-paced, well,
- 1:04:59Speaker 11: not even faster-paced, but There's more action worked into it.
- 1:05:02Speaker 11: It's more of a quicker-moving plot line, but the tone
- 1:05:05Speaker 11: of it is equally as depressing as the road.
- 1:05:08Speaker 8: Yeah, the plot is not constipated. It is just constant.
- 1:05:11Speaker 10: The story unfolds at a very good pace, and there's
- 1:05:15Speaker 10: just the right amount of action.
- 1:05:16Speaker 11: In fact, sometimes you don't even get breathing room. You're
- 1:05:18Speaker 11: just like, no, they just went to sleep. How can
- 1:05:20Speaker 11: more stuff be starting?
- 1:05:22Speaker 8: My wife saw The Road, and she recommended it.
- 1:05:23Speaker 9: Yeah, it's good.
- 1:05:24Speaker 10: And she caught a vaccine one night, and it's on
- 1:05:26Speaker 10: my to-do list. I have a very big pile of
- 1:05:28Speaker 10: some movies that I had to buy. that certain friends
- 1:05:31Speaker 10: recommend or I saw in the previous work that.
- 1:05:33Speaker 8: Are still shrink-wrapped.
- 1:05:33Speaker 9: Yeah, I used to have that myself.
- 1:05:35Speaker 10: And video games, too.
- 1:05:36Speaker 9: There's a list so long that I'm still trying to
- 1:05:39Speaker 9: get to.
- 1:05:39Speaker 8: The road is on there. I've heard good things about it.
- 1:05:41Speaker 9: I mean, it's good, but it's that same thing. It's depressing.
- 1:05:43Speaker 11: And from what I hear, people with kids have a problem.
- 1:05:47Speaker 11: Because it's a father and son dealing with this. So
- 1:05:49Speaker 11: it's a lot of parenthood issues, too.
- 1:05:51Speaker 8: Hey, man, it's like Finding Nemo. I'm looking forward to
- 1:05:53Speaker 8: watching that with my son.
- 1:05:54Speaker 10: It's an uplifting movie.
- 1:05:55Speaker 6: Uplifting.
- 1:05:56Speaker 8: Father and son, take another world. Let's do it.
- 1:05:59Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:06:02Speaker 6: Damn Brotherhood shit-kickers.
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: Ten dead.
- 1:06:09Speaker 8: We've got things under control now.
- 1:06:10Speaker 10: We'll have this place up and running in no time.
- 1:06:12Speaker 10: You sure you want to stick around for a while?
- 1:06:16Speaker 8: We could use a couple of good men.
- 1:06:18Speaker 10: No.
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: We're in the north. Stick to the back roads.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: They're the only way out of here.
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: Brotherhood's a rest.
- 1:06:31Speaker 11: So I think that's most of my take. Any final
- 1:06:34Speaker 11: words you guys have for Stakeland?
- 1:06:35Speaker 9: That was the ending. I think we covered it pretty well.
- 1:06:39Speaker 8: This movie's just done so well.
- 1:06:43Speaker 10: I can't begin to explain how much I appreciate how
- 1:06:46Speaker 10: well it was made.
- 1:06:47Speaker 8: And I very.
- 1:06:49Speaker 10: Rarely recommend movies, and I think this movie gets one
- 1:06:52Speaker 10: of the highest recommendations. I can't remember the last movie
- 1:06:55Speaker 10: I saw that I felt this strongly about.
- 1:06:58Speaker 8: And I can't believe you.
- 1:06:59Speaker 10: I can't believe that it's from a year ago.
- 1:07:00Speaker 9: A lot of people haven't seen it. And nobody's heard
- 1:07:02Speaker 9: about it.
- 1:07:03Speaker 10: I thought it was one of the last minute Louies here.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: No.
- 1:07:05Speaker 8: And I was just.
- 1:07:07Speaker 10: I can't believe this movie didn't shatter the movie scene
- 1:07:11Speaker 10: and make this giant impact where it was banned or something.
- 1:07:14Speaker 12: Maybe that's why.
- 1:07:14Speaker 31: Because it didn't fall into the Hollywood categories.
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: I think so.
- 1:07:17Speaker 12: And they just kind of like, you know what, they
- 1:07:18Speaker 12: pushed it off. They're like, we don't want to promote
- 1:07:21Speaker 12: this because... First of all, it's got killing babies in it.
- 1:07:23Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:07:24Speaker 9: It's depressing. Who are we marketing it to?
- 1:07:26Speaker 10: Yeah, it's too depressing. It was definitely made for people
- 1:07:30Speaker 10: in the genre. For the super fans.
- 1:07:31Speaker 9: That's the only ones that know about it now. The
- 1:07:32Speaker 9: same people that go to horror conventions.
- 1:07:34Speaker 10: The same people that go to gaming conventions or whatever.
- 1:07:36Speaker 10: That's what it was made for. There was no BS
- 1:07:39Speaker 10: in it.
- 1:07:39Speaker 11: I mean, that's the first time I heard about it
- 1:07:41Speaker 11: was at a horror convention. The only reason I then
- 1:07:43Speaker 11: found out it was out was from fans of the,
- 1:07:46Speaker 11: you know, the Movie Geek Underground, the shows and the
- 1:07:48Speaker 11: internet websites.
- 1:07:49Speaker 15: And I mean.
- 1:07:50Speaker 11: It's that kind of group of people is what is,
- 1:07:52Speaker 11: you know, kind of finding these movies and enjoying these movies.
- 1:07:55Speaker 9: So it's good that they're still making them.
- 1:07:57Speaker 11: Sometimes I'm amazed that they even get funding to do
- 1:07:59Speaker 11: stuff that looks this good and is this well-made when
- 1:08:02Speaker 11: there's nobody out there, like, throwing a lot of money
- 1:08:04Speaker 11: at them.
- 1:08:05Speaker 9: It's a shame sometimes.
- 1:08:06Speaker 10: I can't wait to see the next project of this
- 1:08:07Speaker 10: director and writer.
- 1:08:09Speaker 9: I kind of want to see where he goes.
- 1:08:10Speaker 8: He's definitely a staple in my collection.
- 1:08:12Speaker 9: Very good.
- 1:08:13Speaker 8: I can't wait to watch it with my five-year-old son.
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: Hey, kid, sit down.
- 1:08:17Speaker 8: Let me show you something. This is a good movie here.
- 1:08:19Speaker 8: This is going to be great.
- 1:08:19Speaker 10: This is what to do in case of an apocalypse.
- 1:08:22Speaker 10: The training manual.
- 1:08:23Speaker 9: Turn off that Disney for a minute. I want to
- 1:08:24Speaker 9: show you something.
- 1:08:26Speaker 10: Well, I have a hard time with that now with
- 1:08:27Speaker 10: my kids. I love that my son is into Boomerang
- 1:08:29Speaker 10: and all the old cartoons. He's into Doctor Who and
- 1:08:31Speaker 10: a lot of cool things with me. But lately, you
- 1:08:34Speaker 10: just can't fight the influence. The arm of Disney just
- 1:08:37Speaker 10: cuts through. All of a sudden, he's into Kidz Bop
- 1:08:40Speaker 10: because of commercials and stuff.
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: Oh, God.
- 1:08:42Speaker 8: And I don't mind a lot of Disney Pixar stuff.
- 1:08:43Speaker 10: We watch most of.
- 1:08:44Speaker 9: The Pixar things. Pixar's a different category, yeah.
- 1:08:47Speaker 10: But the Disney, their channel, the shows with the sarcastic teenagers. Oh,
- 1:08:51Speaker 10: my God.
- 1:08:52Speaker 8: My daughter's in iCarly.
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: Oh, iCarly.
- 1:08:55Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:08:57Speaker 9: I can't say anything. I watch those shows.
- 1:08:59Speaker 12: He watches them, though.
- 1:09:00Speaker 31: I mean I sat down and watched Wizards of Waverly
- 1:09:02Speaker 31: or something I like that show that stuff comes on
- 1:09:04Speaker 31: it came on we all like that and I'm.
- 1:09:06Speaker 10: Like oh crap let me find Spongebob or something for
- 1:09:08Speaker 10: you and my son's like no that's Wizards of Waverly
- 1:09:10Speaker 10: I want to watch that and I'm like what did
- 1:09:12Speaker 10: you say to me boy take that back he.
- 1:09:15Speaker 9: Likes Selena Gomez she's cute come on he's got a
- 1:09:18Speaker 9: crush on her you know he does Probably. He's only six.
- 1:09:22Speaker 9: I remember setting in pretty early for me. You know,
- 1:09:24Speaker 9: slow down.
- 1:09:25Speaker 10: He just started using his pockets like a year ago,
- 1:09:27Speaker 10: and I'm still not over it. We're at the grocery store,
- 1:09:29Speaker 10: and he's like, hey, can I have something from those
- 1:09:30Speaker 10: quarter vending machines? I'm like, oh, you know what, sorry, son,
- 1:09:33Speaker 10: I have no coins. He's like, oh, it's okay, I
- 1:09:34Speaker 10: have some.
- 1:09:35Speaker 14: Wait a minute.
- 1:09:35Speaker 8: He's just in his pocket.
- 1:09:36Speaker 10: I'm like, oh, my God. At the same time, I'm
- 1:09:38Speaker 10: having this moment with my son because he's.
- 1:09:39Speaker 8: Like, going in his pocket.
- 1:09:41Speaker 10: He's using his pocket in his pants. I didn't realize
- 1:09:42Speaker 10: they were real pockets. Then he pulls out a handful
- 1:09:46Speaker 10: of change. First, I'm thinking, where the hell did you
- 1:09:47Speaker 10: get that? Second time, I'm like, oh, it's my boy.
- 1:09:51Speaker 10: Little pockets.
- 1:09:52Speaker 9: Then he pulls out his driver's license.
- 1:09:55Speaker 10: Yeah, right?
- 1:09:56Speaker 8: I need to borrow the car.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: What?
- 1:09:57Speaker 27: Gotta go, Dad.
- 1:09:58Speaker 8: I was changing your diaper yesterday.
- 1:10:00Speaker 10: What the heck's up with that?
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: Damn it.
- 1:10:02Speaker 8: But no, I let the kids watch a lot of
- 1:10:03Speaker 8: the stuff. Not too far. He accidentally watched Hall-Raiser.
- 1:10:07Speaker 10: And he loved it.
- 1:10:08Speaker 8: He wasn't creeped out by it. The first Hellraisers.
- 1:10:10Speaker 9: That's the good, yeah. Once you get past three, it's
- 1:10:12Speaker 9: all downhill. So just stop them about two.
- 1:10:14Speaker 12: I think Misty and I went on the quest for
- 1:10:16Speaker 12: Hellraiser and watched.
- 1:10:17Speaker 14: All of them.
- 1:10:17Speaker 9: Oh, you poor bastards.
- 1:10:18Speaker 10: I've only seen like the first couple. I remember watching
- 1:10:20Speaker 10: the third, half of the third one or something.
- 1:10:22Speaker 8: The one with the CDs.
- 1:10:23Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:10:23Speaker 8: That's the one I couldn't finish watching. It's when it
- 1:10:25Speaker 8: gets silly.
- 1:10:26Speaker 9: We went all the way up to it.
- 1:10:27Speaker 12: Did it get good again though?
- 1:10:29Speaker 9: Oh no, it didn't.
- 1:10:29Speaker 12: No, it just went downhill from there.
- 1:10:31Speaker 10: What was it?
- 1:10:32Speaker 12: Listen, what was the highest Hellraiser we watched? Was it
- 1:10:34Speaker 12: like Hellraiser 8?
- 1:10:36Speaker 10: Oh my gosh.
- 1:10:37Speaker 9: It's 8 or 9 or something.
- 1:10:38Speaker 10: It's 8 or 9.
- 1:10:38Speaker 9: It's ridiculous how many they went.
- 1:10:40Speaker 12: It just got... I don't know where it went.
- 1:10:44Speaker 10: Yeah, my wife just thought all that stuff was nerdy,
- 1:10:46Speaker 10: but she definitely got into.
- 1:10:47Speaker 8: Firefly with me.
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: Dr.
- 1:10:48Speaker 8: Who now.
- 1:10:49Speaker 27: Torchwood.
- 1:10:50Speaker 10: The new Torchwood's really good. If you haven't seen it
- 1:10:52Speaker 10: on Starz, way better than the first couple seasons. But
- 1:10:55Speaker 10: I watched Jordan Carpenter's The Thing with my son.
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: Oh, God.
- 1:10:58Speaker 10: I love that movie.
- 1:10:59Speaker 8: For me, even as an adult, that movie still.
- 1:11:02Speaker 10: creeps me out and still scares me it's really hard
- 1:11:04Speaker 10: to watch at two in the morning when everyone else
- 1:11:06Speaker 10: is asleep then he.
- 1:11:07Speaker 11: Watched it he loved it it still holds up i
- 1:11:09Speaker 11: mean even the special effects i mean some of those
- 1:11:11Speaker 11: practical effects are how many years old and it's 81
- 1:11:14Speaker 11: or something i'm just like it looks as good as
- 1:11:17Speaker 11: anything you could do today in fact it's better because
- 1:11:19Speaker 11: now they would.
- 1:11:20Speaker 9: Just do cgi so.
- 1:11:21Speaker 10: It's yeah it's amazing i miss the old like claymation
- 1:11:25Speaker 10: stuff yeah You know, actually putting someone in a suit thing, like,
- 1:11:28Speaker 10: that's so underrated.
- 1:11:30Speaker 9: Yeah, it's going to be gone now.
- 1:11:31Speaker 8: It's like, oh, no, CGI is the way to go.
- 1:11:32Speaker 10: No, it isn't.
- 1:11:33Speaker 11: It's the guys in suits works. I mean, you feel
- 1:11:36Speaker 11: their presence in the room. You don't get from.
- 1:11:38Speaker 10: A blue screen.
- 1:11:39Speaker 8: You don't get a mask.
- 1:11:41Speaker 31: Even my daughter, she'll take old Godzilla over. CGI Godzilla.
- 1:11:46Speaker 31: She doesn't like the new Godzilla movies.
- 1:11:48Speaker 9: Just like the old Japanese ones or the bad American ones?
- 1:11:51Speaker 12: She doesn't like the bad American ones. She loves the
- 1:11:54Speaker 12: old 60s Godzilla.
- 1:11:56Speaker 9: Don't we all?
- 1:11:57Speaker 10: That's where my love of.
- 1:12:02Speaker 8: This is where my environmentalism came from.
- 1:12:04Speaker 10: It's from watching Spectre Man.
- 1:12:07Speaker 8: Spectre Man?
- 1:12:07Speaker 10: Yeah, I grew up on it too. If you go
- 1:12:10Speaker 10: back and watch him, every episode is anti-pollution. the group
- 1:12:15Speaker 10: that they're in they're like a pollution like policing group
- 1:12:18Speaker 10: and everything every bad guy like every monster that Dr.
- 1:12:21Speaker 10: Glory brings out usually gets involved with toxic waste somehow
- 1:12:24Speaker 10: and that's how they grow up and I was like
- 1:12:26Speaker 10: wow all these subliminal things just got like programmed into
- 1:12:29Speaker 10: my brain and that's where.
- 1:12:30Speaker 24: It all came from isn't that the one too because
- 1:12:32Speaker 24: he can't stay he can't fight him for very long
- 1:12:35Speaker 24: right because of the atmosphere no or is that Ultraman
- 1:12:38Speaker 24: I'm getting Ultraman mixed up too it's funny he used
- 1:12:41Speaker 24: to have to ask permission to become Spectreman You have
- 1:12:44Speaker 24: to talk to this guy knows that to cheeseburgers And
- 1:12:51Speaker 24: he would say oh, you know this monsters attacking such-and-such
- 1:12:55Speaker 24: permission to turn the super-spec command They're like no you
- 1:12:58Speaker 24: cannot turn in the spec command just yet.
- 1:13:00Speaker 10: You know you have to go and Investigate this and
- 1:13:03Speaker 10: find out further and he's like but no my friends
- 1:13:04Speaker 10: are in trouble No, we are we're in charge.
- 1:13:09Speaker 8: So he'd be really frustrated. That was pretty cool. And
- 1:13:11Speaker 8: then finally at the end, he's like, all right, come on,
- 1:13:12Speaker 8: everyone's dying.
- 1:13:13Speaker 10: And they're like, okay. And they shoot the raid out,
- 1:13:15Speaker 10: and he turns into Spectre Man.
- 1:13:16Speaker 9: Very duty-oriented.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:18Speaker 8: You have to follow protocol. That's right.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:13:20Speaker 10: He's like, no, but I'm righteous.
- 1:13:23Speaker 8: I'm like, no. It was amazing.
- 1:13:26Speaker 10: And it's funny, I played that for my son, and
- 1:13:27Speaker 10: he loved it for like a second.
- 1:13:30Speaker 9: And then the novelty wore off.
- 1:13:31Speaker 8: He was like, no, put on the other stuff.
- 1:13:33Speaker 10: So I could see the CGI appealing to kids and
- 1:13:36Speaker 10: the younger crowd for sure, but Man, there's just no
- 1:13:38Speaker 10: substitute for seeing the zipper in the rubber suit.
- 1:13:41Speaker 11: The less they grew up with it, yeah, there's an
- 1:13:43Speaker 11: appreciation that I don't know that kids get. I kind
- 1:13:46Speaker 11: of want to instill them. So, yeah, it's cool that
- 1:13:48Speaker 11: your daughter is liking that better.
- 1:13:51Speaker 12: We sat down and watched Jason and the Argonauts. We
- 1:13:53Speaker 12: watched everything. Everything was old.
- 1:13:56Speaker 10: We try to watch.
- 1:13:58Speaker 31: It had become kind of a Saturday morning thing just
- 1:14:00Speaker 31: to try to get her into Saturday morning.
- 1:14:03Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:14:03Speaker 9: See, you don't have that anymore.
- 1:14:05Speaker 8: You don't have that and you can't duplicate it.
- 1:14:07Speaker 10: And I was just having a conversation with a friend
- 1:14:08Speaker 10: of mine maybe a week or two ago about that.
- 1:14:10Speaker 10: And I think that the atmosphere that's missing is like
- 1:14:13Speaker 10: the fact that your parents weren't at work, they were
- 1:14:16Speaker 10: at home. You weren't at school, you were at home.
- 1:14:19Speaker 10: Because they're at home, there's music playing in the kitchen
- 1:14:21Speaker 10: because my mom's doing something. And there's like a whole
- 1:14:24Speaker 10: giant atmosphere that's missing from the Saturday morning cartoon. Because
- 1:14:27Speaker 10: it's not the same as saying, all right, I'm going
- 1:14:29Speaker 10: to wake up Sunday morning and watch Crash Box with
- 1:14:31Speaker 10: my son on HBO. It's kind of cool, but it's
- 1:14:33Speaker 10: not the same.
- 1:14:34Speaker 11: Well, it's also, everything is available now. Like, when we
- 1:14:37Speaker 11: were kids, you couldn't just go, like, you had to
- 1:14:39Speaker 11: wait until Saturday morning and sit down and watch a cartoon.
- 1:14:42Speaker 11: There was no, I missed it, I want to go
- 1:14:44Speaker 11: back and watch it. There was no, I want to
- 1:14:45Speaker 11: watch it right now.
- 1:14:46Speaker 9: And it's Thursday night.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: Also, you have to go pee.
- 1:14:48Speaker 9: Yeah, there's no, kids can't even comprehend that now. Like, well,
- 1:14:52Speaker 9: why wouldn't you just go on YouTube and watch it,
- 1:14:54Speaker 9: you know? It's like, there's no way for kids to understand.
- 1:14:57Speaker 9: You couldn't get to them. I mean, stuff was out
- 1:14:59Speaker 9: of print or never available. It's like, If you.
- 1:15:02Speaker 31: Weren't there watching it, then you missed it.
- 1:15:05Speaker 12: And all your friends talked about it.
- 1:15:06Speaker 8: I still appreciate that.
- 1:15:09Speaker 10: I'm watching Doctor Who, and I'm talking about an episode
- 1:15:12Speaker 10: every Friday night with someone who used to work here,
- 1:15:14Speaker 10: and I'm.
- 1:15:15Speaker 8: Like, man, did you see that last Friday? Wasn't that awesome?
- 1:15:17Speaker 8: It was so amazing.
- 1:15:18Speaker 10: And they're like, oh, which episode is that? And I'm like,
- 1:15:20Speaker 10: The one from Friday, like the last one.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: The new one.
- 1:15:22Speaker 8: They're like, well, I've seen them all on YouTube. And
- 1:15:24Speaker 8: I'm like, oh, man.
- 1:15:26Speaker 10: I'm like, you're lame. You're lame. I'm out of here.
- 1:15:29Speaker 8: I'm taking my ball. I'm going home.
- 1:15:32Speaker 10: Oh, Lord.
- 1:15:33Speaker 9: Well, with that, I guess we can try to take
- 1:15:35Speaker 9: our ball and get the hell.
- 1:15:36Speaker 15: Out of here.
- 1:15:36Speaker 9: But we will let you put the plugs in here.
- 1:15:40Speaker 11: Tell everybody where to find yourself and your operation and
- 1:15:42Speaker 11: what all you guys have to offer.
- 1:15:44Speaker 10: The Bleeding Heart Bakery. You can find us on thebleedingheartbakery.com
- 1:15:48Speaker 10: or check us out on Facebook, Bleeding Heart Bakery.
- 1:15:50Speaker 8: Slash Facebook, whatever.
- 1:15:53Speaker 10: Follow Michelle Garcia, Vinnie Garcia on Twitter or Facebook. Be
- 1:15:57Speaker 10: on the lookout for really cool stuff. We're opening a
- 1:15:58Speaker 10: restaurant in like five days.
- 1:16:02Speaker 8: We touched on this earlier.
- 1:16:04Speaker 10: We actually found some really cool people, like-minded, who wanted
- 1:16:07Speaker 10: to help us grow and not exploit us who happen
- 1:16:09Speaker 10: to be connected to big money and big business and
- 1:16:11Speaker 10: they know how to do, you know, they own a
- 1:16:13Speaker 10: sports bar so they understand like systems and that kind
- 1:16:16Speaker 10: of stuff. And yeah, we finally moved on to the
- 1:16:19Speaker 10: big time. And it's really happening. So in five days,
- 1:16:21Speaker 10: look out. Bleeding Heart Bakery and Cafe at Chicago Avenue.
- 1:16:25Speaker 10: I believe it's 1916 West Chicago Avenue.
- 1:16:28Speaker 9: And this one is?
- 1:16:30Speaker 10: This is 1955 West Belmont, which will still be here
- 1:16:32Speaker 10: after we move.
- 1:16:33Speaker 9: Okay.
- 1:16:33Speaker 10: But you won't see Vinny in the back making crazy
- 1:16:35Speaker 10: cthulhu cakes anymore. I'll be on Chicago Avenue sitting in
- 1:16:38Speaker 10: a fish tank right at the front, all glass room,
- 1:16:41Speaker 10: making amazing cakes and classes and kicking butt all over
- 1:16:46Speaker 10: town and saving the earth one cake at a time.
- 1:16:48Speaker 14: Awesome.
- 1:16:49Speaker 9: Very cool. So, yeah, once again, if you're in Chicago,
- 1:16:51Speaker 9: come find them. If not, make a trip over here
- 1:16:54Speaker 9: and come find them.
- 1:16:54Speaker 10: And if you just want to sit around and sip
- 1:16:56Speaker 10: coffee and talk about cool stuff and how so much
- 1:16:59Speaker 10: new stuff is lame, I'm more than.
- 1:17:01Speaker 8: Open to that.
- 1:17:02Speaker 9: It's good to have that option, isn't it?
- 1:17:03Speaker 10: Absolutely.
- 1:17:03Speaker 9: That you offer that service. Come in and let Geeks
- 1:17:06Speaker 9: Talk Movies with you.
- 1:17:07Speaker 6: That's right.
- 1:17:08Speaker 10: I usually get shunned for my nerddom and my geekness.
- 1:17:11Speaker 9: We embrace it here at the show. I embrace it.
- 1:17:13Speaker 10: I embrace it. Come on down.
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: Sounds good. All right.
- 1:17:17Speaker 9: Thanks for hanging out with us.
- 1:17:18Speaker 8: Thanks for coming by. It was pretty awesome.
- 1:17:20Speaker 9: Thank you.

- 1:18:53Speaker 10: By on by on by on by.
- 1:18:58Speaker 27: It's part of your problem you know you haven't seen
- 1:19:01Speaker 27: enough movies all of life's riddles are answered.
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: In the movies and now on with the.
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: Show Alright, so we're back in the car. We're heading
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: back home. We've gotten loaded up on coffee now. Made
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: a few more stops.
- 1:19:33Speaker 9: I think we're done with our weekend outing to Chicago.
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: We did have some feedback. I didn't know I was
- 1:19:40Speaker 4: going to pass this along this day. I thought this
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: was fun.
- 1:19:44Speaker 10: Okay, here it was.
- 1:19:45Speaker 35: Because it was sort of celebrity feedback. After one of
- 1:19:49Speaker 35: our little quotes from a couple weeks back.
- 1:19:52Speaker 11: While we were at Fright Night, I took I remembered
- 1:19:55Speaker 11: we made our Arsonite comment about Wings, and.
- 1:19:58Speaker 30: One of the other show hosts says they follow Steven Weber,
- 1:20:02Speaker 30: and says he's actually pretty cool, and puts out interesting tweets,
- 1:20:06Speaker 30: and has a pretty good sense of humor.
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: So I went ahead and sent.
- 1:20:10Speaker 30: Him the quote that we had.
- 1:20:12Speaker 35: Which was basically, what I said was one of the
- 1:20:15Speaker 35: funnier comments of the show, was I have no respect
- 1:20:17Speaker 35: for anybody that was ever on.
- 1:20:18Speaker 11: Wings, which I think you get credit for that, Steve. So,
- 1:20:22Speaker 11: and then we were just kind of like, eh, we
- 1:20:23Speaker 11: were just kidding. We were mostly knocking on the kid
- 1:20:25Speaker 11: from the shiny.
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: Which is, for good reason.
- 1:20:28Speaker 35: So, he actually messaged us back.
- 1:20:31Speaker 11: He said, first of all, he said, I am certainly
- 1:20:35Speaker 11: incentivized to get that respect.
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: Which means, you know, kind of a smartass. I like
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: that already. And followed it with, it's all good and
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: not entirely wrong.
- 1:20:46Speaker 35: So, I like that it's self-deprecating. I kind of like
- 1:20:48Speaker 35: this guy. So, Moral of the story is, Stephen Webber,
- 1:20:52Speaker 35: kind of cool.
- 1:20:53Speaker 4: Otherwise, I think that about wraps it up. So, did
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: you have fun?
- 1:20:59Speaker 16: I did have fun, yes.
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: It was quite an interesting trip. Alright, well, we will
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: be back for more adventures in the future. Otherwise, that
- 1:21:07Speaker 4: about does it. We will return next week. Same geek time,
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: same geek feed.
