- 0:00Speaker 1: Thanks Mike Lane. Obviously not the result that you wanted
- 0:03Speaker 1: in Edmonton two nights ago. I mean, where do you
- 0:07Speaker 1: begin to break this one down? We've talked before. Is
- 0:10Speaker 1: this a thing you chalk up to, Hey, these things happened,
- 0:13Speaker 1: or was there just something more fundamental about that game
- 0:16Speaker 1: that you want to address.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I mean, you look at the fundamental side of it,
- 0:21Speaker 2: and you know the breakdowns that we had, the things
- 0:23Speaker 2: that we did, you know, so you know, you go
- 0:27Speaker 2: over those things, and certainly when the when the ball started,
- 0:31Speaker 2: you know, snowing the wrong way, it snowballed, and you know,
- 0:36Speaker 2: we just one of those nights where we couldn't keep
- 0:39Speaker 2: it out of our nat or penalty kill their power play.
- 0:42Speaker 2: You know, it was good, and you know, it's just
- 0:46Speaker 2: one of those games where I just thought that everything
- 0:48Speaker 2: that you know could go wrong kind of did go wrong,
- 0:51Speaker 2: but we were the result of having them go wrong.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Jordan Ebi this morning said that offensively, it was one
- 0:56Speaker 1: of the better games you guys played. You had your chances,
- 0:58Speaker 1: but anytime you give up nine, you're not going to
- 1:01Speaker 1: win those games. I guess on a positive note, what
- 1:04Speaker 1: did you make of the offensive opportunities that you guys.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Had Well, yeah, I said that after the game. Even
- 1:08Speaker 2: you know, we did a lot of good things offensively.
- 1:12Speaker 2: We shot volume was there. We need to continue with that.
- 1:17Speaker 2: We had a number of good scoring chances and we
- 1:20Speaker 2: did a lot of good things. So if we look
- 1:23Speaker 2: at it from that standpoint and some of the things
- 1:25Speaker 2: that we've been talking about offensively, you know, they're they're
- 1:29Speaker 2: starting to do a better job of building those into
- 1:33Speaker 2: our game. We need to continue going that way. Take
- 1:35Speaker 2: that positive out of that game, but we need to
- 1:37Speaker 2: be better defensively.
- 1:39Speaker 1: The guys had a day off yesterday. You've had some
- 1:40Speaker 1: time to reset and maybe stew or put it out
- 1:45Speaker 1: of your mind from that game a couple of nights ago.
- 1:48Speaker 1: What's been the message to your team this morning leading
- 1:51Speaker 1: into the contest.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Well, it's you know, to your point, you know you
- 1:55Speaker 2: have your choice. You can come in and you know,
- 1:58Speaker 2: grind it out yesterday. You can reset and get ready
- 2:02Speaker 2: to play tonight. And you know there's For me, it
- 2:07Speaker 2: was no lack of effort in Edmonton. I thought we
- 2:10Speaker 2: worked it just everything kind of that could go wrong
- 2:14Speaker 2: did go wrong. You know, we made some mental errors
- 2:17Speaker 2: as well. We can't give up breakaways like we did
- 2:19Speaker 2: and all that stuff. So you know, for me, the
- 2:22Speaker 2: message is to reset. I do think there's areas, you know,
- 2:26Speaker 2: in our identity that we didn't look very good in
- 2:29Speaker 2: in Edmonton, really in both the games against Edmonton. So
- 2:33Speaker 2: get back to that, understand who we are, how we
- 2:35Speaker 2: need to play in order to win games and tighten
- 2:37Speaker 2: things up.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Based online rushes this morning, it looks like a couple
- 2:41Speaker 1: of pieces have been moved around the line up at
- 2:43Speaker 1: least early on. It looks like you're going to give
- 2:45Speaker 1: alexiak the night off and bring Josh Bahura back in.
- 2:47Speaker 1: What do you like about this grouping here tonight against
- 2:51Speaker 1: the Red Wings.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Well, I think that you know, we're trying to create
- 2:55Speaker 2: a little bit more balance from a defensive standpoint. You know,
- 3:01Speaker 2: if if you look at at our team and you
- 3:04Speaker 2: know how we match up, we think it's important to
- 3:07Speaker 2: you know, to do that. And certainly you know on
- 3:10Speaker 2: the on the defense side, you know, Marha has played
- 3:15Speaker 2: very very well at the start of the year. He
- 3:16Speaker 2: hasn't played for probably four weeks now. You know, he
- 3:22Speaker 2: needs and deserves a shot to get back into the intermix.
- 3:26Speaker 2: You know, he's a great leader for our team. And
- 3:28Speaker 2: I know that Alexiak has played well for us as well.
- 3:33Speaker 2: But that's the decisions that's that's being made, and we're
- 3:35Speaker 2: going to.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Go with it. Red Wings, last time you guys played
- 3:38Speaker 1: on the eighteenth of November. Still fairly fresh, and they're
- 3:42Speaker 1: a team that's fallen a bit on some hard times
- 3:44Speaker 1: as of late. What type of game do you expect
- 3:47Speaker 1: out of them and how can you combat that?
- 3:49Speaker 2: Well, they're a fast hockey team, highly highly dynamic. I
- 3:53Speaker 2: thought in Detroit we weren't as connected as we could be,
- 3:56Speaker 2: certainly with with the puck and without the puck, and
- 4:00Speaker 2: you know, we we have to balance the want and
- 4:04Speaker 2: need to create offense with the risk of you know,
- 4:08Speaker 2: giving up defensive things and they transition to puck very well.
- 4:12Speaker 2: We've got to manage the puck tonight. We've got to
- 4:14Speaker 2: take away they're big guys. We've got to stay out
- 4:16Speaker 2: of the box. The power play seventh in the league.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Our penalty kill is league and oil here right now.
- 4:20Speaker 2: So we've got to try and you know, stay out
- 4:23Speaker 2: of the box as much possibly can, and then when
- 4:25Speaker 2: they do get power plays, we've got to take advantage
- 4:27Speaker 2: of that. And our power play has to help us out.
- 4:29Speaker 2: So you know it's gonna be a fast game, ye
