Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus, powered by Seahawks dot Com.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Now here's your host. That's a chopie.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk. It's a victory
- 0:14Speaker 1: Monday here at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. It's a
- 0:16Speaker 1: Seahawks takedown the Jacksonville Jaguars twenty to twelve. Seahawks ey
- 0:19Speaker 1: stend their franchise record road winning streak to nine games.
- 0:22Speaker 1: But yeah, Mike McDonald approves to ten and one on
- 0:25Speaker 1: the road. A Seahawks head coach, McDonald is a fourth
- 0:28Speaker 1: head coach in NFL history to win ten of his
- 0:30Speaker 1: first eleven road games. I don't know what's going on,
- 0:32Speaker 1: but they got the formula figured out. I want them
- 0:36Speaker 1: to do that home. Obviously they're getting there, but it's
- 0:38Speaker 1: unreal what they're doing on the road right now.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Bump there are a.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Band of brothers on the road. For some reason. They
- 0:42Speaker 3: get her done. I love the camera that they set
- 0:45Speaker 3: up now for them exiting the field after a win.
- 0:47Speaker 3: You get to really feel the emotion because when they win,
- 0:50Speaker 3: we get hyped and then we kind of leave.
- 0:51Speaker 2: We do postgame and.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Fans really get to see or feel how they're feeling.
- 0:55Speaker 3: So that that camera that they set up as they
- 0:57Speaker 3: leave the field, I think it's awesome.
- 0:58Speaker 1: We really let you feel how important these wins are
- 1:01Speaker 1: for them, no question about it. And the Seahawks so
- 1:03Speaker 1: many guys stepped up all over the field. We're gonna
- 1:05Speaker 1: talk about that throughout this podcast. All the injuries in
- 1:08Speaker 1: the secondary, you're down three starters, but they still find
- 1:10Speaker 1: a way to get it done.
- 1:11Speaker 4: So let's jump right into it with what had happened.
- 1:15Speaker 4: See what had happened was what had happened at first
- 1:18Speaker 4: was what had happened was on Hawk Talk.
- 1:22Speaker 1: This game kicked off not guns of blazing s fourth
- 1:25Speaker 1: rate plans to two to three and out for the Seahawks.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Then the Jacks got the scoring started with an eight
- 1:29Speaker 1: play drive going sixty one yards ending with a twenty
- 1:32Speaker 1: one yard touchdown to Brian Thomas. What a miscommunication there
- 1:35Speaker 1: between Shaquill Griffin and Nicki min Wore ended up in
- 1:37Speaker 1: a wide open touchdown that made the score seven zero.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Seahawks would respond with a ten play sixty six yard
- 1:42Speaker 1: drive but had to settle for a Jason Myers field goal.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm just happy they responded, and I'm sure Shack
- 1:48Speaker 3: and Nick and Mai are gonna get that figured out.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Fake the bubble, they go over the top. Cool what
- 1:52Speaker 3: the Hawks bounce back? The Hawks would force a three
- 1:54Speaker 3: and out on the next drive. Things to a big
- 1:56Speaker 3: sack by Bigcat and the Jennana Wills who Sam donaldon
- 1:59Speaker 3: wats in time connects to sixty one yards on the
- 2:02Speaker 3: top to JSN on the first play of the drive.
- 2:05Speaker 2: We're gonna break that down later.
- 2:06Speaker 3: That made the score ten to six, and then both
- 2:09Speaker 3: teams with tray punks and the Jags will put together
- 2:11Speaker 3: an eleven play drive but will stall out on the
- 2:14Speaker 3: Seahawks side of the field.
- 2:15Speaker 2: But the Jags would walk away with.
- 2:17Speaker 3: No points after Cam little miss a fifty yard field goal.
- 2:20Speaker 3: You can credit some of the mists of DeMarcus Lawrence,
- 2:23Speaker 3: who got a sack to play before to back them
- 2:25Speaker 3: up nine yards. That's why you keep playing. I'm surprised.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Fifty yarders are like thirty five yards these days for
- 2:30Speaker 3: these field goal kickers.
- 2:31Speaker 2: So you got lucky there.
- 2:32Speaker 1: There's something Seahaws are doing special teams wise, I have
- 2:34Speaker 1: a feeling that the miss is a little bit of
- 2:37Speaker 1: what's going on defensively with the field goal block and
- 2:39Speaker 1: all that stuff. So great to see there. The special
- 2:41Speaker 1: tame Jina has been boring out all season long. The
- 2:43Speaker 1: Hawks would add a fifty three yard field goal themselves
- 2:46Speaker 1: by Jason Myers and the teams heading the locker room
- 2:48Speaker 1: with the Seahawks up thirteen to six. And then for
- 2:50Speaker 1: the second week in Row, I love this, the Seahawks
- 2:52Speaker 1: come out of the halftime firing on all cylinders. They
- 2:55Speaker 1: go eight plays seventy seven yards and when eleven yard
- 2:57Speaker 1: touchdown to Cooper Cup. Cooper Cup, that was his d
- 3:00Speaker 1: He also helped set that up with a twenty nine
- 3:02Speaker 1: yard reception earlier in the drive. So love to see
- 3:04Speaker 1: Cooper Cup finally getting the end zone for the first
- 3:06Speaker 1: time as Seahawk.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Yeah, that that passed after Row by Sam Dardal was
- 3:09Speaker 3: all die corner route right near the pylon.
- 3:13Speaker 2: In the end zone. That was beautiful. Man.
- 3:15Speaker 3: The next two drives with ending punts, and then the
- 3:17Speaker 3: Jacks will put together their best drive of the game.
- 3:19Speaker 3: They go fourteen plays eighty two yards, ending with a
- 3:21Speaker 3: twenty six yard touchdown to Tim Patrick.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Little Joe was in position there.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I think he stopped playing for half a second and
- 3:28Speaker 3: then scramble halpen and then a play is made. Jacksonville
- 3:31Speaker 3: had four plays a ten plus yards on that drive
- 3:34Speaker 3: and then they went for two, but we're stopped by
- 3:36Speaker 3: Ernest Jones. That made the score twenty to twelve. The
- 3:38Speaker 3: next six drives after that will end in punts. The
- 3:41Speaker 3: Hawks will get the ball back. With two minutes fifty
- 3:43Speaker 3: three left in the game, and with it being a
- 3:45Speaker 3: one score game, the Seahawks still needed to move the
- 3:48Speaker 3: ball and get some first down to end it, no.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Question about it. You're thinking they're gonna run the ball
- 3:52Speaker 2: a lot.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Yeah, think Jacksonville, you know, drain all their timeouts and
- 3:56Speaker 1: we're gonna break this play down as well. But the
- 3:58Speaker 1: Jacksonville secondary was not expecting Sam Donald to connect with
- 4:01Speaker 1: a j. Barney for a sixty one yard run in catch.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Hawks then run the ball three times, Like I said,
- 4:06Speaker 1: make the Jacks burn all three their timeouts. Jason Myers
- 4:08Speaker 1: comes on hits the game sealing field goal, but penalty
- 4:11Speaker 1: Jacksonville Seahawks getting automatic first down and then just take
- 4:14Speaker 1: some knees and now was that for the Hawks. A
- 4:17Speaker 1: huge game ceiling play by Sam Donald on the offense
- 4:19Speaker 1: they needed to flip the field.
- 4:20Speaker 2: It was still a one score game.
- 4:22Speaker 1: But throughout this entire game, for me, Bump, while they
- 4:25Speaker 1: made it close to the end, it never felt like
- 4:27Speaker 1: this was a game at any point.
- 4:28Speaker 2: No, I didn't.
- 4:29Speaker 3: It didn't feel like the offense was flowing like they
- 4:32Speaker 3: usually do, but they had explosive plays Defensively, you're getting
- 4:36Speaker 3: after the quarterback. We're going to talk about some performances here,
- 4:38Speaker 3: but seventeen quarterback hits, seven sacks. I mean, Trevor Lawrence
- 4:42Speaker 3: was under pressure all day, so they every game is
- 4:46Speaker 3: different and this game was unique in a sense that
- 4:48Speaker 3: we haven't seen a game like this yet. But they
- 4:50Speaker 3: pulled it off, no.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Question about it.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I mean, you hold the Jacks are four to sixteen
- 4:53Speaker 1: on third down and then you mentioned it getting after
- 4:56Speaker 1: Trevor Warts seven sacks. Yeah, seventeen quarterback hits per ESPN
- 4:59Speaker 1: re search us the most in the last at least
- 5:01Speaker 1: the last twenty five years for the Boks. Might be
- 5:03Speaker 1: a season record for a record, but it's just unreal
- 5:07Speaker 1: what the defensive line was doing. And the Hawks improved
- 5:09Speaker 1: to four and two on the season, are in great
- 5:11Speaker 1: shape heading into Monday night. Football with a buy. On
- 5:13Speaker 1: the other side, you take care of business against the Texans.
- 5:16Speaker 1: You're five and two. We're seeing what's going on with
- 5:18Speaker 1: the Niners. They're banged up. Obviously, the Rams are a
- 5:20Speaker 1: good football team. Arizona is having their trouble. So there's
- 5:23Speaker 1: a lot that can be you know, the Seahawks and
- 5:25Speaker 1: really get ahead and then hopefully after the bye week
- 5:27Speaker 1: can get a lot of the starters back on defense.
- 5:29Speaker 2: And it's scary what this team could do moving forward. Bump.
- 5:32Speaker 1: But when you looked at the tape, I know you
- 5:34Speaker 1: did this morning, when you all said and done, what
- 5:36Speaker 1: did you learn from this weekend?
- 5:37Speaker 2: What's the biggest thing that came out of it? Man?
- 5:39Speaker 3: That the the run is a threat. I know you
- 5:42Speaker 3: look at these numbers this week. They don't impress you. You
- 5:44Speaker 3: go one twenty two one week one to fifty five
- 5:45Speaker 3: the week before this week, what sixty or something like that.
- 5:49Speaker 3: The numbers are going to impress you. But they are
- 5:51Speaker 3: influencing this defense. There's a reason why JSMB wide open. One,
- 5:54Speaker 3: he's a good of course wide out. Two Sam Downd
- 5:57Speaker 3: is a heck of a quarterback. But three the run
- 5:59Speaker 3: game has eyes in the backfield, and defensively, this might
- 6:03Speaker 3: be I want to claim them as the best defensive
- 6:05Speaker 3: line in the game, but Denver's numbers are crazy, So
- 6:07Speaker 3: I'm gonna say their top three defensive unit in the game.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Right now.
- 6:10Speaker 3: They are getting pressure without sending a lot of players.
- 6:13Speaker 3: The blitz numbers have gone down. It got it to
- 6:15Speaker 3: thirteen percent of the time. You're blitzing now eleven percent
- 6:17Speaker 3: of the time. So if I do the mad correctly,
- 6:19Speaker 3: all right, about fifty four to fifty six plays. That's
- 6:21Speaker 3: about six blitzes that you probably saw in the last game.
- 6:24Speaker 2: They're They're impressive on that D.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Line, no question about it. And both of things you
- 6:27Speaker 1: said there. For one, the influence in the secondary is real.
- 6:30Speaker 1: There's a lot of numbers out there. It was like, well,
- 6:32Speaker 1: just play action really matter? Yes, yeah, it does. Ask
- 6:35Speaker 1: anyone who plays in the back seven play action matters.
- 6:37Speaker 1: You don't have good eye discipline and getting the wrong spot,
- 6:39Speaker 1: you get beat over the top, and we've seen a
- 6:40Speaker 1: lot of that this year. But like we mentioned, there's
- 6:43Speaker 1: so many people made plays all over the field, playmakers,
- 6:51Speaker 1: playmakers to them what time it is? Oh wait, we're
- 6:57Speaker 1: gonna start with arguably the best quarterback in then now
- 7:00Speaker 1: Football League right now. I think the other person right
- 7:02Speaker 1: now that has a word about that is Baker Mayfield,
- 7:04Speaker 1: who we just saw. If we're just looking at the numbers,
- 7:06Speaker 1: what he is doing right now. Sam Darnald is playing
- 7:09Speaker 1: out of his absolute mind. Sixteen to twenty seven, two
- 7:11Speaker 1: hundred and ninety five yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions, QB
- 7:15Speaker 1: rating of one twenty one point seven. He's had a
- 7:17Speaker 1: QB rating over one to eleven. I think the last
- 7:19Speaker 1: four games, Donald took care of the football. These Jags
- 7:22Speaker 1: get after teams and they create turnovers, but Donald took
- 7:26Speaker 1: care of the football. They had fourteen takeaways heading in
- 7:28Speaker 1: this game. All the interceptions, nothing happened there. And in
- 7:31Speaker 1: pre ESPN research, Sam Darnald's sixty one yard touchdown to
- 7:33Speaker 1: Jason traveled forty nine yards beyond the line of scrimmage,
- 7:37Speaker 1: the second most air yards on a completion of his career.
- 7:39Speaker 1: He's now seventeen of twenty four on passes thrown twenty
- 7:43Speaker 1: plus yards down the field, with two touchdowns and no interceptions.
- 7:46Speaker 1: It is honestly unreal. He has the most play action
- 7:49Speaker 1: yards in the NFL at five hundred and ninety three,
- 7:52Speaker 1: and then he also has the most passing touchdowns under
- 7:56Speaker 1: center with seven. Bump, I don't I mean, Duke can
- 7:59Speaker 1: just go through the numbers. I'm just naming some of them,
- 8:01Speaker 1: but I could continue going for a lot of minutes here.
- 8:03Speaker 1: But Sam Donald is just an absol stud playing out
- 8:05Speaker 1: of his mind.
- 8:05Speaker 3: This offense is done a one eighty. Really you go
- 8:08Speaker 3: from you mentioned under center numbers. We're in shotgun seventy
- 8:11Speaker 3: percent of the time. Last year you mentioned the play action.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Play action was kind of a thing, but not really
- 8:17Speaker 3: in shotgun because linebackers can just zone in on the
- 8:19Speaker 3: running back and see what was going going down. No,
- 8:22Speaker 3: it's been fun to watch and Sam Donald. B Walt
- 8:25Speaker 3: kind of convinced me. He started this on Thursday saying
- 8:28Speaker 3: that b Walt was in the MVP conversation maybe top three.
- 8:31Speaker 3: I'm like, ah, we'll see, we'll see after this week. Yeah,
- 8:34Speaker 3: I'm bought in. I'm convinced. Let's start the campaign. Jackson
- 8:38Speaker 3: Smith and jig But had another great day. Eight receptions
- 8:41Speaker 3: for one sixty two and one touchdown. Had a sixty
- 8:43Speaker 3: one yard reception for a touchdown, the longs of his career.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Sunday was his fourth one hundred yard game of the season.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Before that, his career three one hundred yard games before
- 8:52Speaker 3: this year. He has four already in this season. It's
- 8:55Speaker 3: one hundred and sixty two yards. Is the second most
- 8:57Speaker 3: receiving yards he's had in his career. He had at
- 9:00Speaker 3: least a thirty six yard reception in every game this season,
- 9:03Speaker 3: so now he leads the NFL with six hundred ninety
- 9:05Speaker 3: six receiving yards. Those six ninety six yards are the
- 9:08Speaker 3: most in any six game Spam and Seahawk history. According
- 9:12Speaker 3: to ESPN, he has at least seventy nine yards in
- 9:15Speaker 3: every single game. I did the map. He's on pace
- 9:17Speaker 3: for about eighteen hundred yards. He's on pace right now
- 9:20Speaker 3: to break the franchise record week twelve. We'll see what happens, right,
- 9:23Speaker 3: We'll see what happens. But he's off to a great start.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I mean initially when I said it, because I'm still
- 9:29Speaker 1: amazed that the franchise record for a season is still
- 9:32Speaker 1: only thirteen hundred yards. When you talk about the people
- 9:34Speaker 1: that have played here, obviously Stee Largent one of the
- 9:37Speaker 1: best to ever do it. He played in a little
- 9:38Speaker 1: bit different era, throwing the ball less or whatnot, But like, yeah,
- 9:40Speaker 1: because I said at the beginning, that's one thing I'll
- 9:42Speaker 1: easily stand on because I'm like, he's gonna break that record.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Now, anyone will be like, well, obviously he's gonna.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I mean, we got type though you've been you've been saying.
- 9:49Speaker 2: It in saying it.
- 9:50Speaker 1: So I love what we're seeing from Jason. He is absolutely,
- 9:54Speaker 1: I mean number one. If not, there's a couple other
- 9:56Speaker 1: peoples that I'll ask about it, justin Jefferson, obviously, Boogaku,
- 9:59Speaker 1: a couple of people in the conversation, but from what
- 10:01Speaker 1: we're seeing, JSN is the best in the game right now.
- 10:04Speaker 1: We talked about a defensive line show some love everywhere.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Byron Murphy four tackles, two sacks, one TfL, four quarterback hits.
- 10:11Speaker 1: He's playing another year, playing out of his absolute mind.
- 10:13Speaker 1: And what I love about him.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Him and A. J.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Barner both took that sophomore leap this year, and I
- 10:19Speaker 1: think Byron Murphy came in his first round picks. We
- 10:21Speaker 1: had a lot higher expectations. He's playing up to and
- 10:24Speaker 1: if not more than what we thought we'd get from
- 10:26Speaker 1: him last year. So I love what we're seeing from Byron.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Last year, this team was led in sacks by an
- 10:31Speaker 3: interior defensive lineman and kat with what eleven and a half?
- 10:34Speaker 2: Eleven? So are around there? Yeah so far.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Biron Murphy, an in tier defensive lineman, leads this team
- 10:39Speaker 3: in sacks with four and a half. I mean, this
- 10:41Speaker 3: dude is balling. I'm happy for him, and big ups
- 10:43Speaker 3: to his daughter who was born prematurely but it's doing great.
- 10:47Speaker 3: So big ups to Byron Murphy. He got that dash strength.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Then oh yeah, he's out there. Yeah, DeMarcus Lawrence had
- 10:52Speaker 3: a game five tackles, two sacks, two TFLs, and five
- 10:55Speaker 3: quarterback hits. Welcome back, We missed you. Didn't know how
- 10:57Speaker 3: much we missed you until I watched that dang film.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yeah, with DeMarcus sue outside of the sacks are great
- 11:02Speaker 1: to me, and the sacks are a bonus.
- 11:04Speaker 2: They're all doing their thing.
- 11:05Speaker 1: But when you see him on the field, when number
- 11:06Speaker 1: zero's out there, that edge you set, yep, like that
- 11:10Speaker 1: edges set and they just it just everyone plays off it.
- 11:12Speaker 1: You you talk about pursuit and run fits. When you set
- 11:15Speaker 1: the edge, good things happen and he's playing out of
- 11:17Speaker 1: his mind. And then Chennonu wo sue. We knew, we've
- 11:21Speaker 1: known we can do since twenty twenty two. We've we've
- 11:23Speaker 1: gone on record talking about this forever. He was the
- 11:25Speaker 1: best defensive player we had that season and he just
- 11:27Speaker 1: had a tough road.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Injury after injury after injury.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Well he's back four tackles, one and a half sacks,
- 11:32Speaker 1: fourth quarterback hits.
- 11:33Speaker 2: He's had at least half a sack, and I think
- 11:34Speaker 2: the last four games. Pump yep.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I mean he's doing his thing. So love or seeing
- 11:37Speaker 3: from Chinna. Yeah, Chenn is doing his thing. I love
- 11:40Speaker 3: how he knows where the quarterback is. He gonna get
- 11:43Speaker 3: his hand and make sure you get at least a
- 11:44Speaker 3: half sat all right now, he's causing chaos for show.
- 11:47Speaker 3: He get his hand on the quarterback too. I love
- 11:49Speaker 3: it all right. Wide receive a roundup talked about JSN
- 11:51Speaker 3: eight for one to sixty two and one touchdown. AJ
- 11:54Speaker 3: Barner have three for seventy one a big sixty one
- 11:56Speaker 3: yard reception.
- 11:57Speaker 2: We're going to break that down.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Cooper Cup had two for forty in his first down
- 12:00Speaker 3: as a Seahawks. Zach Starveny had one for thirteen, Or
- 12:03Speaker 3: Royal had one. Ken Walker had one two ninety five
- 12:06Speaker 3: overalle efficient day in the past game with.
- 12:08Speaker 1: That question again, We're seeing a lot of different people
- 12:11Speaker 1: in this box score every week, which I love to see.
- 12:14Speaker 1: And you know, jays N, he he had thirteen targets,
- 12:17Speaker 1: a majority of the targets. But when you're getting that production,
- 12:20Speaker 1: I'll sign him for it every single time.
- 12:22Speaker 2: But that takes us to the plays of the game.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Jays N took a week off and we made a
- 12:28Speaker 1: decision not to featre him every week, but it was
- 12:29Speaker 1: hard to not pass up. But man, this weekend, Sam
- 12:32Speaker 1: Donald connects with Jackson Smith and Jigba for a sixty
- 12:36Speaker 1: one yard touchdown.
- 12:38Speaker 5: Sam Donald starts under center, Horton wide to the right side,
- 12:42Speaker 5: play fake. Donald has time, gonna let it fly. Jysen
- 12:46Speaker 5: is out there, Jaysn has it cut down Chey Hawks
- 12:52Speaker 5: spike in the end zone. Had a sixty one yard
- 12:55Speaker 5: rocket to number eleven. Jay. Yeah. Sam put six more
- 13:01Speaker 5: on the board for the Hawks, and that's how you
- 13:04Speaker 5: loosen up that defense that is fighting you tooth and
- 13:07Speaker 5: nail at the line of scrimmage. You throw over him
- 13:10Speaker 5: and the Seahawks explode for a big touchdown reception and
- 13:14Speaker 5: go on top nine six.
- 13:17Speaker 3: This is the longest play of his career and it's
- 13:20Speaker 3: probably the easiest at the same time. Right, So you
- 13:23Speaker 3: got essentially a two x two formation, two tight ends
- 13:26Speaker 3: attached to the line of scrimmage. You got JSN up
- 13:28Speaker 3: top by himself in tight then you have a royal
- 13:31Speaker 3: down at the bottom with K nine in the backfilm. Typically,
- 13:34Speaker 3: when the Hawks motion this tight end from right to left,
- 13:36Speaker 3: like they're doing with AJ Barner, they're gonna run like
- 13:39Speaker 3: a zone, either split zone or a regular zone. So
- 13:42Speaker 3: that's what they're showing to this defense, right, They're showing, Look,
- 13:44Speaker 3: AJ Barner is gonna take care of the edge and
- 13:46Speaker 3: block the end and then we're gonna hand the football off.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Instead of that, he releases to the flat and you
- 13:51Speaker 3: got K nine who goes with the playfake and now
- 13:54Speaker 3: he's out to release his sit over the ball.
- 13:56Speaker 2: But this is what that does.
- 13:57Speaker 3: I mentioned that because all that motion, all that act
- 14:00Speaker 3: grabs the eyes of the safety that is over JSN.
- 14:03Speaker 3: He has a corner sitting around six or seven yards.
- 14:05Speaker 3: He has that safety over there as well. The safety
- 14:08Speaker 3: made this happen. Jason does a great job with his release.
- 14:10Speaker 3: He widens just a little bit a text, the leverage
- 14:12Speaker 3: of the corner. And now this isn't all out sprint
- 14:15Speaker 3: because this safety has his eyes in the backfield and
- 14:18Speaker 3: does not flip his hips until late it is gone.
- 14:20Speaker 3: It is money, the easiest touchdown and the biggest play
- 14:24Speaker 3: of Jason's career, just by the little things. Because the
- 14:27Speaker 3: Hawks set up the run, they showed rum, they showed
- 14:30Speaker 3: play actions. Safety's eyes in the backfield. Jaysn turns on
- 14:33Speaker 3: the burners. It's a rap.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Yeah, man for one. Shout out to seem Donald.
- 14:37Speaker 1: That is a dime. We talk about dimes. He threw
- 14:39Speaker 1: the Cooper Cup. That's an absolute dime. Jason barely is
- 14:42Speaker 1: right in his red basket there, which is great. And
- 14:44Speaker 1: then here's another thing. The Jaguars made a trade in
- 14:47Speaker 1: their second year. Did this was his first snap? This
- 14:51Speaker 1: is first snap. That was his first snap, damn. And
- 14:54Speaker 1: I mean honestly, first snap, and you got JSN staring
- 14:58Speaker 1: in front of you and he just runs by him,
- 15:00Speaker 1: runs by him.
- 15:00Speaker 2: And again we talk about the safety.
- 15:02Speaker 1: If your eyes aren't disciplined even for half a second,
- 15:04Speaker 1: when Jason's on your side of the field, you're dead meat.
- 15:07Speaker 1: And it's crazy to me and I hope defenses keep
- 15:10Speaker 1: doing this. It doesn't matter if you know his big
- 15:13Speaker 1: playability and getting over the top, he still finds a
- 15:15Speaker 1: way to do it. And I think I'll give credit
- 15:16Speaker 1: to Brian Walter as we talked about this in postgame show.
- 15:19Speaker 1: When that ball's in the air again, his ability to
- 15:21Speaker 1: do track. He talked about it this week. Jays ended
- 15:23Speaker 1: about how playing baseball helped him with that his acceleration.
- 15:26Speaker 1: When the ball's in the air. There's an extra gear
- 15:28Speaker 1: there that is hard to find. Not everyone has it.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Jason does, and he's going to get to that football.
- 15:33Speaker 1: And if you're the safety, you're in the corner, you're
- 15:35Speaker 1: looking back and you're just like, oh my goodness, I
- 15:37Speaker 1: don't really want to go to the sideline. As I'm
- 15:39Speaker 1: about to hear about it. Our next play, Sam Donald
- 15:43Speaker 1: finds aj Barner for another sixty one yard reception.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Donald under center. Donald's gonna roll left as time look
- 15:51Speaker 5: steps up, throws back wide open. Barner makes it catch
- 15:55Speaker 5: forty thirty cutback inside, twenty five, twenty cutback outside, look out.
- 16:00Speaker 5: Barner goes down at the twelve yard line. Are you
- 16:03Speaker 5: kidding me? Everybody rolls left? Barner a j Barner goes
- 16:09Speaker 5: back to the right side, and I mean he was
- 16:12Speaker 5: open all day for a sixty one yarder. Kobiak has
- 16:18Speaker 5: pulled out of his bag of tricks a big play
- 16:20Speaker 5: right when he needs it, a sixty one yard touchdown earlier,
- 16:24Speaker 5: and this time the big play sixty one to Barner,
- 16:29Speaker 5: and the Seahawks are at the very least in field
- 16:32Speaker 5: goal range, and that might just demoralize the Jacksonville defense.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Wanna call and.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Want to play?
- 16:40Speaker 3: This is so similar to the first play we looked at. Yeah,
- 16:43Speaker 3: in a lot of ways. You line up in two
- 16:45Speaker 3: by two agame tight ends attached to the line of scrimmage.
- 16:48Speaker 3: You got Jason up topping the tight formation you got
- 16:52Speaker 3: is that Horton down there no Cooper cut down at
- 16:54Speaker 3: the bottom type formation. You're gonna motion the tighten over
- 16:58Speaker 3: to the left side, all right. So what this looks
- 17:00Speaker 3: like as a running formation once again, and you're gonna
- 17:02Speaker 3: get play action. You mentioned that Sam Donald has the
- 17:05Speaker 3: most yards off of play action, but why because they're
- 17:07Speaker 3: able to run the football. So what they're gonna do
- 17:09Speaker 3: now is you're gonna fake the handof You're gonna boot
- 17:12Speaker 3: to your left, all right. You're gonna have Aj Barner release.
- 17:15Speaker 3: He's one on one with the safety. Where the safety
- 17:17Speaker 3: messes up is that he's taking his run steps because
- 17:20Speaker 3: of the play action. He takes his run steps, he
- 17:22Speaker 3: hops forward and AJ Barner gets on his toes fairly quickly,
- 17:26Speaker 3: so he's not able to flip his hips. What I
- 17:28Speaker 3: love about this toos was Sam Donald's rolling to the
- 17:31Speaker 3: left side right everything in his body and in the
- 17:34Speaker 3: route combination by JSM and Cooper Cup at the bottom says,
- 17:38Speaker 3: this play is gonna go to Sam Donald's left, the
- 17:41Speaker 3: defense is right. Instead, AJ Barney gets vertical and I
- 17:45Speaker 3: love the clean that he has. Right when he gets
- 17:47Speaker 3: on the safety's toes right, the safety is gonna try
- 17:49Speaker 3: to grab him.
- 17:50Speaker 2: He cleans them up.
- 17:51Speaker 3: But Sam Donald rolling to the left, comes back to
- 17:54Speaker 3: the right side and AJ Barner is wide over him.
- 17:57Speaker 3: This is all just influence right in the run rolling
- 18:01Speaker 3: to the left, get in the defense to take that
- 18:02Speaker 3: false step, and AJ Barner is showing that he's got
- 18:05Speaker 3: a bit more speed than people think.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Another easy completion.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Why because the run game is working even if you're
- 18:12Speaker 3: only rushing for sixty yards.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Yeah, for anyone who's played in the secondary when you're
- 18:18Speaker 1: looking at their high safety on this play, that's called
- 18:21Speaker 1: an oh read right there because you take two steps
- 18:24Speaker 1: up for your dead meat.
- 18:25Speaker 2: You were absolutely dead meat. That's a great run.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Fact why his eyes are in the backfield, bump you
- 18:29Speaker 1: and hit it right on the head and Barner that's
- 18:31Speaker 1: it for a tight ends. That's a great route. That
- 18:33Speaker 1: is chrispy. You look at it. He's nine yards away
- 18:35Speaker 1: from him. Yeah, just playing catch up. I talked to
- 18:37Speaker 1: Aj Toda. He's like, man, I thought I was gonna score,
- 18:39Speaker 1: but he's like, I could have tried to stiff arm
- 18:41Speaker 1: him right there, and I'm probably would have got some more,
- 18:42Speaker 1: but I knew if I cut it back, I get
- 18:44Speaker 1: more yardage. And then you love the effort from JSN.
- 18:46Speaker 1: He's getting down almost gets the cleanup block if Barner
- 18:50Speaker 1: keeps going that same direction. Obviously he doesn't know where
- 18:51Speaker 1: JSN is on the field, but it was almost a
- 18:54Speaker 1: picture perfect block and he might have scored there. But again,
- 18:56Speaker 1: love what you're seeing there. Aj runs a great, great route.
- 19:00Speaker 1: You mentioned it play action.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Again.
- 19:01Speaker 1: It might not show up in the box score, but
- 19:03Speaker 1: it's showing up because people are honoring that. And again,
- 19:06Speaker 1: Sam Darnold does not leave the league in play action
- 19:08Speaker 1: yardage for no reason. It's because of this scheme, what
- 19:11Speaker 1: Kubiak's doing, what Sam's doing, everyone carrying out their faces. Love,
- 19:15Speaker 1: love what we're seeing, and they're playing really good football.
- 19:18Speaker 1: The big plays.
- 19:19Speaker 3: I gotta give him a little more love on this route.
- 19:21Speaker 3: The end zone version is crazy to me. He gets
- 19:24Speaker 3: on the safety toes, nods him to the left, takes
- 19:26Speaker 3: his eyes, his body, his soul that way, then puts
- 19:29Speaker 3: that left foot in the ground and snaps it up.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Goodness, gracious, AJ got some rounds.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Yeah, because if you're the safety, you're like, oh, crap
- 19:35Speaker 1: to pass, and you're thinking like, oh, he's gonna run.
- 19:37Speaker 2: This post opens up and the agent puts up foot
- 19:39Speaker 2: in the ground. It's a wrap and.
- 19:41Speaker 1: AJ gets to do his thing, just like the Seahawks did.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Getting a big road wind in Jacksonville bumps. It sets
- 19:48Speaker 1: us up for our favorite formation, victory formation.
- 19:53Speaker 5: Here comes the Seahawk offense onto the field and the
- 19:56Speaker 5: Vikings defense trutching out there knowing that one meal down
- 20:01Speaker 5: and the Seahawks are gonna line the clock down and
- 20:04Speaker 5: win this one.
- 20:05Speaker 2: It's the victory formation.
- 20:06Speaker 1: On Hawk Talk, Seahawks back in the win column. Road
- 20:10Speaker 1: Warriors ten in one under Mike McDonald.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Stat wasn't always pretty. The Hawks, you know, did what
- 20:15Speaker 1: they had to do to win. There's a little blip
- 20:17Speaker 1: in there where there are a lot of pints were
- 20:18Speaker 1: going to move the ball time. But again we just
- 20:19Speaker 1: talked about it. Big play after big play after big play,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and then an amazing effort from this defense up holding
- 20:24Speaker 1: the Jacks to twelve points. Second Trevor Lawrence seven times
- 20:27Speaker 1: hit him another seventeen total teamy effort on defense limited
- 20:31Speaker 1: the big plays, only three players more than fifteen yards.
- 20:33Speaker 2: So I love what they did on that side of
- 20:34Speaker 2: the ball.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Yeah, Jacks only had fifty nine yards rushing. They're the
- 20:37Speaker 3: fourth best rushing attack in the game. And Shaq Griffin
- 20:41Speaker 3: stepped up, he started and he played some good football.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Then offensively, Sam Dard continues to play at a high level.
- 20:47Speaker 3: He protected a football against the team that was the
- 20:50Speaker 3: best in the NFL at taking the ball away, and
- 20:52Speaker 3: Jason continues the show. He's one of the best, not
- 20:55Speaker 3: only receivers, best players in the NFL. Six hundred ninety
- 20:59Speaker 3: six yards through So yeah, keep it up level.
- 21:02Speaker 1: We're seeing there in the offensive line another great job,
- 21:05Speaker 1: only letting Darnold get sack one time. Hawks only had
- 21:07Speaker 1: six yard Russian. But we know what the run game did.
- 21:10Speaker 1: It helped with those really big plays that we just
- 21:12Speaker 1: broke down. And the Seahawks sit nextra day this week,
- 21:14Speaker 1: they got a bonus day. You know, I think they
- 21:16Speaker 1: look at it differently as they prepare because I'm sure
- 21:18Speaker 1: the coaching staff still has a lot of stuff that
- 21:20Speaker 1: they can improve on. And this team's four and two
- 21:22Speaker 1: and you're just seeing the tip of the potential because
- 21:24Speaker 1: where they could be. This seam easily could be undefeated
- 21:27Speaker 1: right now, and they got a bonus day. They got
- 21:29Speaker 1: a big game at Loomenfield on Monday Night football, which
- 21:32Speaker 1: is gonna be huge.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Can't wait.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Late start though, bump late start, seven pm kick because
- 21:37Speaker 1: of the doubleheader on ESPN, so we're gonna room be.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Up late long day. I'm here for it though, Yeah,
- 21:43Speaker 2: no love it.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Primetimes to the Seahawk, get a win, go into the
- 21:46Speaker 1: bye week at five and two.
- 21:47Speaker 2: We'll see what's going on there. Appreciate you guys listening.
- 21:50Speaker 1: We'll be back with you on Thursday, breaking down those
- 21:52Speaker 1: Houston Texans he's Michael Bumbas on NASA Troby the Seahawks
- 21:56Speaker 1: take down the Jags twenty to twelve.
- 21:58Speaker 2: This has been Hawk Talk
- 22:03Speaker 4: Time.
