- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All Right. The other story
- 0:07Speaker 1: I wanted to mention, it's a little in the weeds,
- 0:10Speaker 1: but it's part of ada week to me.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Because, as you know, Doc running Verscarti got backing from
- 0:19Speaker 2: the Eyesenower administration, and I believe, of course, from Eleanor
- 0:22Speaker 2: Roosevelt to jump start the Henry Verscarty School Henry Verscari
- 0:29Speaker 2: Center when it was Human Resources back in nineteen fifty two.
- 0:34Speaker 2: But I read over the weekend a story by Michael
- 0:36Speaker 2: Crowley of The Times, Yes, the New York Times, dated
- 0:41Speaker 2: June twenty fourth, which says, how the United States helped
- 0:45Speaker 2: create Iran's nuclear program. We've been providing weaponry forever to
- 0:52Speaker 2: those countries that we think need our support, and that
- 0:57Speaker 2: includes Ukraine obviously, which is much needed.
- 0:59Speaker 1: And I don't think Ukraine would.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Turn it against US or society like ice Isis has.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Remember we gave Isis their weaponry, There's no doubt about
- 1:10Speaker 2: it when they were just rebels. Look at what that's
- 1:14Speaker 2: turned into. But Iran's a very interesting story because at
- 1:19Speaker 2: the same time doctor Vescardi was launching Human Resources, Eisenhower.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Was going out and saying let's share and I have
- 1:31Speaker 1: a point to all of this. Let's share our secrets
- 1:37Speaker 1: in our.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Materials, even in the nuclear arm drace with the Soviet
- 1:48Speaker 2: Let's share it with other countries like Iran, like Pakistan.
- 1:54Speaker 2: And this also hits home because on the streets of
- 2:00Speaker 2: New York, in the Canyon of Heroes, there is one
- 2:03Speaker 2: dedicated to the Shah Mohammed resident Pavlaanovi. They had him
- 2:08Speaker 2: down the Canyon of Heroes eons ago after he was
- 2:15Speaker 2: installed in nineteen fifty three by the CIA. Believe it
- 2:18Speaker 2: or not, in Iran, but the Atoms for Peace program
- 2:25Speaker 2: that Eisenhower started and helped install a reactor in Tehran
- 2:35Speaker 2: maybe symbolic, but look what.
- 2:37Speaker 1: It's turned into.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Well, mister Pavlabe went on, according to Crowley of The
- 2:42Speaker 2: Times New York Times, to budget billions of dollars for
- 2:46Speaker 2: an Iranian nuclear program that he saw as a guarantee
- 2:50Speaker 2: form of his country's energy independence. The US even welcomed
- 2:56Speaker 2: young Iranian scientists a special nuclear training courses at the
- 3:00Speaker 2: Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This led to Iran striking deals
- 3:08Speaker 2: with European allies, and he was celebrated Versailles before signing
- 3:13Speaker 2: a billion dollar agreement to purchase five one thousand megan
- 3:18Speaker 2: nuclear reactors from France.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Michael Crowley, thank you for writing about this. Mister Provlavi
- 3:29Speaker 1: uh was touted.
- 3:31Speaker 2: For doing all of this for the peaceful use of
- 3:35Speaker 2: nuclear power, but his intentions were growing and Washington was suspicious.
- 3:44Speaker 1: In nineteen seventy.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Four, was noted Iran's reactor deal with France made no
- 3:48Speaker 2: public mention of safeguards against the reactor, against using the
- 3:51Speaker 2: reactors as a base for making nuclear weapons. This is
- 3:55Speaker 2: a man, Pavlavi, that we immortalized on the Canaian Heroes.
- 4:00Speaker 1: We should take his name off. He is a reason,
- 4:04Speaker 1: a reason why this is happening today.
- 4:08Speaker 2: He wanted to continue building and he wanted to make
- 4:13Speaker 2: sure nobody was inspecting where we heard that before his
- 4:17Speaker 2: nuclear plans. Then the shop became talking about the right
- 4:22Speaker 2: to produce nuclear fuel at home and denounce discussions about
- 4:27Speaker 2: limitations on Iran's nuclear at nuclear activity.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Denouncing it.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Why is his name still immortalized on the cane of
- 4:37Speaker 2: Heroes New York City. This man is probably a big
- 4:42Speaker 2: reason for why why we are in the shit storm
- 4:53Speaker 2: we are with Iran today, Why we had to do
- 4:57Speaker 2: that bombing of three nuclear reactors that have set them
- 5:01Speaker 2: months back, maybe even years back.
- 5:06Speaker 1: But the point I'm trying to make here people.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Is that instead of having one leg up for the
- 5:13Speaker 2: adaptive community, at a very pivotal time, when doctor Viscardi
- 5:17Speaker 2: was launching the human resources for veterans that were returning
- 5:21Speaker 2: home disabled, Eisenhower goes out and makes deal, makes a
- 5:32Speaker 2: deal with Iran.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And here's the crazy part.
- 5:35Speaker 2: We were on the verge of sending eight American reactors
- 5:44Speaker 2: to Iran by nineteen seventy eight, so much so the
- 5:52Speaker 2: card Administration never did send out those reactors, and that,
- 6:03Speaker 2: according to Crowley, kickstart of the Islamic Revolution in nineteen
- 6:07Speaker 2: seventy nine. But Pavlabi's a reason why we're in the
- 6:11Speaker 2: crap we are today with Iran.
- 6:14Speaker 1: He didn't want safeguards.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Why is he honored on the candid of heroes, and
- 6:21Speaker 2: why can't in twenty twenty five we keep our technology
- 6:27Speaker 2: to ourself. And I know that signs as isolationist, but
- 6:37Speaker 2: truly look at different avenues of growth within America, and
- 6:44Speaker 2: that includes.
- 6:45Speaker 1: The disabled community. If Eisenhower.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Had just focused more on work like doctor Vascardi and
- 6:54Speaker 2: funding those efforts. I think the disabled community would be
- 7:00Speaker 2: far more advanced in society, meaning I think we'd be
- 7:06Speaker 2: respected more.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I think we'd be acknowledged more.
- 7:11Speaker 2: But no, he had to go and share technological secrets
- 7:14Speaker 2: of our nuclear with countries like Iran.
- 7:18Speaker 1: He would, he thought that'd be a good thing. The
- 7:20Speaker 1: Atoms for Peace has led to chaos, and I'm so
- 7:26Speaker 1: glad Michael Crowley wrote about this.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Because it's just a reminder of not letting history repeat
- 7:34Speaker 2: itsay we want to give Saudi Arabi technology.
- 7:36Speaker 1: No, I disagree with that.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I know Ukraine will not use weapons against America, but
- 7:46Speaker 2: only against Russia. But they are another example of how
- 7:50Speaker 2: we've continued to arm other countries.
- 7:54Speaker 1: When some of that energy could be used to advance.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Especially saying this during the day week, advance entrepreneurs, advance
- 8:11Speaker 2: ideas that will help those disabled community. And it's amazing
- 8:18Speaker 2: because at the same time Eisenew we're talking about the
- 8:20Speaker 2: military industrial complex. He was sort of egging that complex
- 8:28Speaker 2: on by sharing all these secrets, and I find that outrageous.
- 8:38Speaker 1: And I hope President Trump can read this article and.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Learn from it, and Congress can learn from this when
- 8:45Speaker 2: they advocate for more sending of weaponry that it may
- 8:51Speaker 2: not always be turned out for good.
- 8:54Speaker 1: The intention by America is good.
- 8:57Speaker 2: But the enemy or God forbid, the ally doesn't always
- 9:02Speaker 2: see it that way. And I will share this link
- 9:12Speaker 2: in the description below because I find it incredible that
- 9:16Speaker 2: at the same time Eisenower could have been taking doctor
- 9:22Speaker 2: Viscardi's idea and invention and doing this country wide for
- 9:27Speaker 2: more people with disabilities.
- 9:30Speaker 1: It only was constrained to Albertson, New York at the time.
- 9:33Speaker 1: It feels like.
- 9:36Speaker 2: When that idea by doctor v could have spread more
- 9:39Speaker 2: so to help other people in other cities and other
- 9:43Speaker 2: states in America with disabilities.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Instead, we spread weaponry nearly a year later. That's where
- 9:51Speaker 1: the focus is on. The timeline is very revealing.
- 9:58Speaker 2: On how doctor Vviscardi got an eight thousand dollars grant,
- 10:04Speaker 2: and instead of working alongside.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Even more with doctor va they did presidents did.
- 10:10Speaker 2: The administration goes out and talks about nuclear energy instead.
- 10:16Speaker 1: But we should invest energy.
- 10:19Speaker 2: In ideas, in people and in innovations that are helping
- 10:24Speaker 2: the disabled community and helping them grow, not continually arming
- 10:34Speaker 2: countries that may not always have our interests in mind.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I would go far to say, if we invested the
- 10:42Speaker 2: energy we invest in spreading out these weaponry in the
- 10:45Speaker 2: disabled community, spreading that message. Instead, we got better change,
- 10:51Speaker 2: having one leg up for America and Americans with disabilities
- 10:54Speaker 2: and Americans period. And the timeline of where Iran god
- 11:03Speaker 2: It's weaponry is alarming. The IAEA still doesn't really do
- 11:10Speaker 2: inspections of Iran, and that's dangerous the Iranian regime and
- 11:14Speaker 2: that's dangerous. But to think about how in nineteen fifty two,
- 11:20Speaker 2: doctor Viscardi started the center and a year later, instead
- 11:23Speaker 2: of continually helping him, they say, nope, we're gonna talk
- 11:32Speaker 2: about spreading nuclear energy and nuclear weaponry to Tehran.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Hello. That was a mistake, a big mistake, and.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I think directed by in twenty twenty five. We don't
- 11:59Speaker 2: let Saudi Rabi weaponry. But we simply just say, hey,
- 12:04Speaker 2: we don't want to take our weaponry and energy elsewhere.
- 12:10Speaker 2: And then you say, well, they supply it.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Israel with weaponry. Why aren't criticizing that.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I'm not criticizing Ukraine's weaponry and I'm not going to
- 12:20Speaker 2: criticize it Israel getting a weaponry.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I think they needed that at the time.
- 12:27Speaker 2: But I will say, if we can just spare a
- 12:33Speaker 2: lot of energy to help causes that will help people
- 12:36Speaker 2: with disabilities and Americans in general. We'll have one leg
- 12:40Speaker 2: up instead of always thinking about where we can send
- 12:43Speaker 2: our weaponry because that could be turned against us, and
- 12:48Speaker 2: that has been turned against us, And when when we
- 12:50Speaker 2: ever learn
