- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handle on demand from KFI AM sixty.
- 0:06Speaker 2: JFI AM six forty Bill Handle. Here, Am I pressing
- 0:10Speaker 2: the right button? Kno, you press it the right one sometimes. Okay,
- 0:15Speaker 2: it's the one that is something I can't see the
- 0:17Speaker 2: problem is it's not labeled clearly. I'm always yeah, that's
- 0:20Speaker 2: the problem. Is it the bottom button or the left button?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Thirty two years? Everybody, okay, it's the hot button.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Got you realize everyone else sits at that same place
- 0:28Speaker 1: to host a show and they don't have this problem.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Okay, all right, Well I'm special.
- 0:36Speaker 1: You know, when I was in charge of promotions bazillion
- 0:39Speaker 1: years ago, Handle would show up late, flustered, going the
- 0:44Speaker 1: directions you gave me, and everything else was horrible, horrible.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I couldn't fight anything. It was horrible.
- 0:48Speaker 1: And I go look around everyone else using those same directions.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Got there, okay, everyone else there you go? There you go?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Special needs? Okay. Now, as I have said many times,
- 1:03Speaker 2: we are looking at a president who is stretching the envelope,
- 1:09Speaker 2: whether you agree with him or not, because this isn't
- 1:13Speaker 2: a political move, although certainly politics are part of it.
- 1:17Speaker 2: The point is that the power of the presidency, which
- 1:20Speaker 2: is somewhat limited. Our president at this point doesn't think
- 1:25Speaker 2: there are any limits to what the president can do,
- 1:28Speaker 2: and things like that pesky constitution get in the way
- 1:32Speaker 2: and he has a hard time with that. For example,
- 1:34Speaker 2: birthright citizenship, where he wants to make sure that people
- 1:39Speaker 2: that are born in the United States of undocumented parents
- 1:43Speaker 2: are not citizens in the United States. Well, there's that
- 1:45Speaker 2: old fourteenth Amendment getting in the way. It says natural born.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Anybody who's born in the United States is a citizen.
- 1:52Speaker 2: And on this one he had there's another one where
- 1:57Speaker 2: this the city of California. Okay, first of all, let's
- 2:00Speaker 2: start with Trump issued a directive to the state of
- 2:03Speaker 2: California to turn over all the voter records to the Feds,
- 2:08Speaker 2: to the Department of Justice. We want to see all
- 2:10Speaker 2: the voter records. And the California said no, absolutely not.
- 2:17Speaker 2: And so the Department of Justice sued California to turn
- 2:21Speaker 2: over the voter records. And why is that Because Assistant
- 2:26Speaker 2: Attorney General harn Meat Dylan, this is of the US
- 2:30Speaker 2: heads the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, said she was
- 2:34Speaker 2: proud of her office effort to clean up voter rolls nationally.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Here's the problem. There are no voter rolls nationally because
- 2:43Speaker 2: there are no national elections. The Feds have nothing to
- 2:47Speaker 2: do with elections. It's the state. How do I know that? Well?
- 2:54Speaker 2: Article one of the Constitution says specifically the state shall
- 3:00Speaker 2: control the election as to place and time and as
- 3:05Speaker 2: to how elections are run. Well, we don't want the
- 3:08Speaker 2: states to do that, even if it says that in
- 3:10Speaker 2: the Constitution. Why that constitution gets in the way, and
- 3:14Speaker 2: we really hate it, don't we unless we agree with
- 3:18Speaker 2: it or certainly the Second Amendment is great. We think
- 3:21Speaker 2: that one's fabulous, but the rest of it not so much.
- 3:25Speaker 2: For example, freedom of assembly and no freedom of speech. No,
- 3:32Speaker 2: I mean, you have those five congress people that issued
- 3:35Speaker 2: as senators and congress people who are in the service.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Remember the video they said, you cannot if you're in
- 3:40Speaker 2: the military, you cannot or you should not follow illegal orders.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It's in the Constitution, both the First Amendment, right, and
- 3:49Speaker 2: on the books in the Code of the Criminal Justice System,
- 3:55Speaker 2: which the military I'm sorry, the Code of the Military
- 4:01Speaker 2: US Code of the Military. And that's that doesn't matter. No, No,
- 4:06Speaker 2: we don't agree with that. Na, No, that doesn't work
- 4:09Speaker 2: for the Trump administration. So the lawsuit was filed. Department
- 4:15Speaker 2: of Justice filed a lawsuit against the head of the
- 4:18Speaker 2: Department of Justice in California, and the federal judge said no, no,
- 4:25Speaker 2: and he went beyond that. This is David o'carter, who
- 4:27Speaker 2: has been involved in the homeless issue for years and years,
- 4:32Speaker 2: and he said that central voting data would chill voter registration,
- 4:38Speaker 2: cause Americans to fear misuse of their personal information, which
- 4:42Speaker 2: is probably true, and it is unconstitutional and attack on democracy.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I mean, that's going pretty far. But here's another one
- 4:51Speaker 2: of the stretching of the powers of the presidency beyond
- 4:55Speaker 2: anything the Constitution says. And certainly congres is letting him
- 5:00Speaker 2: do that because there's a Republican majority in Congress, and
- 5:04Speaker 2: what the President says, Congress jumps how high as far
- 5:08Speaker 2: as the Republicans are concerned, and the Democrats can't do
- 5:12Speaker 2: much about it because the majority is held by the Republicans.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I wondered during the midterms it may really change. I
- 5:20Speaker 2: think it's going to big time. All right, Okay, story
- 5:24Speaker 2: of Greenland. You know when Donald Trump first said we
- 5:28Speaker 2: should have Greenland. I want Greenland. The United States wants Greenland.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I want to buy it or will and then the
- 5:35Speaker 2: hint of invading it. I was one of those that
- 5:38Speaker 2: justa come on, you know, It's like when he went
- 5:41Speaker 2: down the escalator. Please. That was his third go round
- 5:44Speaker 2: for the presidency, and frankly he was thought of as
- 5:47Speaker 2: a joke. And now of course he is not. And
- 5:53Speaker 2: I thought some of the stuff he says so bombastic
- 5:57Speaker 2: that either he is out of his mind or there's
- 5:59Speaker 2: a method to his madness, which I think is part
- 6:01Speaker 2: of it. And also it of course stretches what the
- 6:06Speaker 2: presidency can do. So he wants Greenland, a sovereign country
- 6:11Speaker 2: or part of a sovereign country, was a territory that
- 6:13Speaker 2: is owned by Denmark, and the president wants it. Now,
- 6:19Speaker 2: so let's say we get Greenland and we're not going
- 6:21Speaker 2: to invade Greenland. I mean, that's not going to happen.
- 6:24Speaker 2: So we kind a deal to buy it from Denmark
- 6:28Speaker 2: or Greenlanders. Let's say, well, Denmark gives Greenland a billion
- 6:35Speaker 2: dollars a year. Greenland's almost entire economy is one of
- 6:42Speaker 2: two things, the money they get from Denmark and shrimp,
- 6:52Speaker 2: not fishing shrimp, just shrimp. Now, I happen to like shrimp.
- 6:58Speaker 2: So that is I think reason enough to go and
- 7:02Speaker 2: live in Denmark or live in Greenland, because they have
- 7:04Speaker 2: lots of it. And the problem is the economy has flatlined.
- 7:10Speaker 2: And if you look at the billion dollars a year
- 7:13Speaker 2: for the fifty seven thousand people that live in Greenland, man, woman, child, child,
- 7:20Speaker 2: that is approximately seventeen thousand, five hundred dollars per person annually.
- 7:26Speaker 2: That's how much is spent in Greenland, where believe me,
- 7:30Speaker 2: the government does not spend seventeen thousand dollars a year
- 7:34Speaker 2: for US. Maybe big picture, but no. The Marshall Islands,
- 7:39Speaker 2: for example, is sort of the same. Marshall Islands used
- 7:43Speaker 2: to be part of US territory, now has become independent,
- 7:45Speaker 2: but we're really connected. And the US supplements or pays
- 7:49Speaker 2: for the Marshall Islands every individual that lives in the
- 7:52Speaker 2: Marshall Islands. That comes to about twenty three hundred dollars
- 7:55Speaker 2: per person. Similar deal in terms of financial impactference would
- 8:00Speaker 2: be However, seventeen five hundred dollars per person not such
- 8:07Speaker 2: a great deal. Okay, So why do we want Greenland?
- 8:11Speaker 2: Why is the president so adamant about Greenland? Because of
- 8:15Speaker 2: its natural resources is one reason it has enormous amounts
- 8:22Speaker 2: of for example, rare earth elements that you dig out
- 8:28Speaker 2: as like it's mines. The problem is there's only one
- 8:32Speaker 2: mine on Greenland and it's very small. You want to
- 8:34Speaker 2: know why, because it's under three hundred feet of ice.
- 8:37Speaker 2: It's almost impossible to get through because how do you
- 8:41Speaker 2: get to the mines from the capitol. Now, keep in mind,
- 8:45Speaker 2: Greenland is as big as Mexico and it has one
- 8:49Speaker 2: hundred miles of paved road. One hundred miles of paved
- 8:54Speaker 2: road for a country as big as Greenland. Now it's
- 8:59Speaker 2: small population fifty seven thousand, So roads have to be built,
- 9:05Speaker 2: Infrastructure has to be put into place, mining operations have
- 9:10Speaker 2: to be established. It is a huge deal economically, totally
- 9:15Speaker 2: unfeasible at least now. No one's jumping up and down
- 9:19Speaker 2: to do this. No company. Okay, how about its strategic
- 9:24Speaker 2: value up in the Arctic, because as the President said,
- 9:29Speaker 2: if we don't get Greenland, then China and Russia are
- 9:32Speaker 2: going to get Greenland. China has not had a ship
- 9:35Speaker 2: near Greenland for ten years. Russia is so bogged down
- 9:39Speaker 2: in the Ukraine it has nothing up there. They're not
- 9:44Speaker 2: very interested. So that part of the world as of
- 9:48Speaker 2: right now, Yeah, no, it's not. There are another would
- 9:54Speaker 2: they go about getting who Russia or China. They'd have
- 9:57Speaker 2: to invade or they'd have to cut a deal and
- 10:00Speaker 2: buy it, just like the United States the bike. Can
- 10:02Speaker 2: you imagine a bidding war. Can you imagine the three
- 10:04Speaker 2: countries playing poker? I'll call you Greenland. Well, here's the Ukraine.
- 10:13Speaker 2: So that part of it doesn't make any sense now. Commercially,
- 10:17Speaker 2: Greenland is is pretty strategic, there's no question. And in
- 10:21Speaker 2: terms of defense, it is pretty strategic because it isn't
- 10:25Speaker 2: a place of the world where our defenses are. We
- 10:29Speaker 2: have a military base there and it's mainly to defend
- 10:32Speaker 2: ourselves from missiles that are flying from Russia because they
- 10:36Speaker 2: fly over Greenland, and so it's an easy way to
- 10:40Speaker 2: determine that we've got missiles because have you been to Greenland? No,
- 10:45Speaker 2: what does one do in Greenland? You eat shrimp apparently,
- 10:50Speaker 2: and subsidies and subsidies and you enjoy subsidies. I mean,
- 10:53Speaker 2: what else can you do? You hike and it's only
- 10:55Speaker 2: during the summer because man, that's it is cold. You
- 10:58Speaker 2: go to Greenland is not green and Iceland is far
- 11:06Speaker 2: greener than Greenland. Wow. Yeah, and they have the York Yeah.
- 11:12Speaker 2: It's very it's very, very strange. It's like Republicans and
- 11:18Speaker 2: Republicans and Democrats or liberals and conservatives. Right. Liberals want
- 11:24Speaker 2: you to have unlimited access to abortion, right, and then
- 11:31Speaker 2: they take care of you for the rest of your life.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Conservatives want to do have that right. Want to quote,
- 11:38Speaker 2: trying to quote George Carlin, I am, I am, And
- 11:40Speaker 2: it's not working. No, it's fun to watch though, Yeah,
- 11:43Speaker 2: it's not working. It's not working, all right. George used
- 11:45Speaker 2: to be a big fan of this show, by the way,
- 11:47Speaker 2: George Carlin, that's huge. Yeah, he was. He's been honored
- 11:51Speaker 2: a few times. You know. I had it was he
- 11:53Speaker 2: had my home phone number and I and I had his.
- 11:55Speaker 2: He would call me about once a week and go
- 11:58Speaker 2: something that I said, and he would rip it apart
- 12:01Speaker 2: and say that wasn't funny. Okay, what we all do?
- 12:05Speaker 2: I know, I'm just like George Carlin, It's true. Okay.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Some of the stories, the big stories we're looking at
- 12:13Speaker 2: is opposition leader Maria Coriina Machado of Venezuela, who's surrogate
- 12:20Speaker 2: actually ran or ran for president against against the president.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Oh my god, did I just lose his name? Maduro? Yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 2: my mind just went. And anyway, she he in stepping
- 12:35Speaker 2: in for Marina Maschado, got seventy percent of the vote,
- 12:41Speaker 2: of which Maduro just immediately eliminated and effectively just said no.
- 12:46Speaker 2: And he still remains a dictator. Anyway, she got the
- 12:48Speaker 2: Nobel Peace Prize, and she was at the White House
- 12:51Speaker 2: yesterday and gave the Peace Prize to President Trump and
- 12:54Speaker 2: said here, it's yours, and the president who has coveted
- 12:58Speaker 2: and begged for the peace price ice, I don't what
- 13:01Speaker 2: do you do with someone else's peace prize? Cross out
- 13:04Speaker 2: her name, put yours in Uh with one of those markers.
- 13:09Speaker 2: I have no idea, And then the flu is going
- 13:11Speaker 2: crazy all over the place. We've got a lot going
- 13:14Speaker 2: on in the meantime. Here is what's happening internationally and
- 13:19Speaker 2: and nationally. The US military is asked to do a
- 13:23Speaker 2: whole lot of stuff right now. Uh that two billion
- 13:28Speaker 2: or two trillion dollars were spent in Afghanistan. We've got
- 13:33Speaker 2: troops in a rock. We have all kinds of military
- 13:37Speaker 2: issues going on with ym and Iran, as you know,
- 13:39Speaker 2: Somalia and US military commanders are used to having whatever
- 13:44Speaker 2: they need their their budget. The military's budget is almost
- 13:48Speaker 2: a trillion dollars. But Pentagon officials are privately warning the
- 13:54Speaker 2: President and the White House, you know what, we may
- 13:57Speaker 2: not be able to do at all, you know, Bret
- 14:00Speaker 2: in Venezuela. Support protesters that toppling into or seeking to
- 14:04Speaker 2: top of Iran's government, protect our interests in the Asia
- 14:10Speaker 2: Pacific area without being completely overstretched. I mean, keep an eye.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Keep in mind. What did the president do? He sent
- 14:18Speaker 2: a carrier task force from the Mid East to the
- 14:22Speaker 2: Caribbean outside of Venezuela. I mean a carrier task force
- 14:28Speaker 2: is eleven ships in this case, eleven ships and submarines
- 14:33Speaker 2: and the cost of moving them it's about sixteen I'm
- 14:37Speaker 2: gonna's about two weeks to move the task force from
- 14:43Speaker 2: the Mid East to Venezuela. Can you imagine the cost
- 14:47Speaker 2: of what it took to pick up Maduro. I mean,
- 14:51Speaker 2: it's just unbelievable. You know what it costs to run
- 14:53Speaker 2: an aircraft carrier alone. And so there isn't enough. We're
- 15:00Speaker 2: stretched too thin. Now. This is the most assets that
- 15:08Speaker 2: have been in this part of the world since the
- 15:09Speaker 2: Cuban missile crisis. I mean, this is a big deal,
- 15:12Speaker 2: and that's to capture one guy. What's it, capture Maduro
- 15:16Speaker 2: and leave the government in place, the Maduro government in place.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Now again, is there a method to his madness? Because
- 15:23Speaker 2: originally he started about drugs, Right, We're going to do
- 15:27Speaker 2: this for drugs and the drug boats. Have you noticed
- 15:29Speaker 2: that the drug conversation of drugs is over? What is it?
- 15:34Speaker 2: It's about oil And that's always been the case with
- 15:38Speaker 2: the president, and the drug issue has really been sort
- 15:43Speaker 2: of just a cover for what he always wanted.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Isn't it always about oil? No, I've been hearing that
- 15:49Speaker 1: since I was a kid. It was always oil.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Because over here for oil, there and over there for oil. No,
- 15:55Speaker 2: because there's plenty of places that there is no oil.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Afghanistan wasn't about oil. You've got Serbia wasn't about oil.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Cuba isn't about oil now, people in the countries in
- 16:07Speaker 2: the Middle East. Yeah, it's about oil and Venezuela because
- 16:10Speaker 2: that has the world's largest oil reserves, much larger than
- 16:15Speaker 2: the US Saudi Arabia, which have enormous The problem is
- 16:19Speaker 2: is the Chavez slash Maduro government came into power and
- 16:24Speaker 2: simply didn't have the resources and just let it all
- 16:28Speaker 2: fall into the toilet to where production is ten percent
- 16:32Speaker 2: of what it used to be. And oil is the
- 16:34Speaker 2: biggest revenue for Venezuela. So going back to the president
- 16:40Speaker 2: started with drugs and it really is about oil. He
- 16:43Speaker 2: wants that oil and he recognizes that Venezuela, the country
- 16:51Speaker 2: cannot produce the oil. Cannot it doesn't have the ability
- 16:55Speaker 2: to pump the oil and refine the oil. And so
- 16:58Speaker 2: here's what he did. He captured Maduro and lets the
- 17:02Speaker 2: next president, who is the vice president and again this
- 17:06Speaker 2: the Maduro regime is still in place, and tells the
- 17:10Speaker 2: vice president, here's what I want you to do, and
- 17:13Speaker 2: she is doing it, and took all the oil that
- 17:17Speaker 2: was in storage that Venezuela had because no oil is
- 17:20Speaker 2: being shipped out. He has put a stamp. I mean
- 17:23Speaker 2: he it's that that blockade is in place. It that
- 17:28Speaker 2: oil is going no place, that Venezuela is pumping. That
- 17:32Speaker 2: little oil that Venezuela is pumping and then selling on
- 17:35Speaker 2: the black market. This shadow fleet that goes around the
- 17:39Speaker 2: world and picks up oil and sells it under the
- 17:41Speaker 2: table and goes to various countries and sells the oil.
- 17:44Speaker 2: He stopped that cold. So what is the country of
- 17:48Speaker 2: Venezuela doing? What is the vice president who is now
- 17:51Speaker 2: the acting president listening to Donald Trump? Frightened that Trump
- 17:58Speaker 2: is going to really invade men Asa. And by the way,
- 18:01Speaker 2: when he says it, he means it. This is imposturing
- 18:04Speaker 2: on his part. He doesn't posture at least when it
- 18:07Speaker 2: comes to this sort of stuff. So he grabs half
- 18:11Speaker 2: a billion dollars worth of oil, sells it, sells the oil,
- 18:16Speaker 2: and the money is moving in an account account for
- 18:18Speaker 2: the people of Venezuela. And it can be argued, and
- 18:22Speaker 2: I thought he was out of his mind, he can
- 18:24Speaker 2: be argued that what he's doing is the best thing
- 18:26Speaker 2: for the people of Venezuela, where the oil money is
- 18:29Speaker 2: going back to them as it should. And he wants,
- 18:31Speaker 2: of course, the infrastructure to be built, and he wants
- 18:33Speaker 2: American companies to build the infrastructure because America first. You know, what,
- 18:42Speaker 2: is there a method to all of this madness? There
- 18:45Speaker 2: seems to be fascinating stuff. Boy, They're going to be
- 18:50Speaker 2: studying this presidency forever. And I will tell you right now,
- 18:55Speaker 2: there has never been a president like President Trump, and
- 18:57Speaker 2: there never will be a presidentlike Donald Trump. All right, Okay,
- 19:03Speaker 2: So moving over to malls in southern California, we have
- 19:07Speaker 2: lots of them, and the economy, especially after the Great Recession,
- 19:12Speaker 2: kind of tanked. And what's been going on also is
- 19:15Speaker 2: retail stores are not doing well. Very few are doing
- 19:20Speaker 2: really well. Sacks just is going under chapter eleven. Target
- 19:24Speaker 2: is not doing as well. You've got Costco of courses, Costco,
- 19:29Speaker 2: but you have majors that are just going down. Why
- 19:32Speaker 2: because it's kind of old. The internet shopping has exploded,
- 19:38Speaker 2: so there are malls that have simply been abandoned. I
- 19:42Speaker 2: mean they're still owned, of course by the owners, but
- 19:45Speaker 2: there are no renters. For one, for example, the Westminster
- 19:49Speaker 2: Mall considered just iconic in that part of the city
- 19:54Speaker 2: in Westminster, and it closed last year. People were so upset.
- 20:00Speaker 2: It was even a funeral that was held for this
- 20:03Speaker 2: Orange County relic. But that was just the beginning. If
- 20:07Speaker 2: you go to social media, there are videos that are
- 20:11Speaker 2: being circulated about the rampant vandalism and destruction inside these malls.
- 20:17Speaker 2: These are huge structures and if you look at the images,
- 20:21Speaker 2: which really angered and saddened the locals who spent their
- 20:24Speaker 2: youth there. I mean, this is where he hung out.
- 20:28Speaker 2: This was the mall in Westminster where you just went.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Sorry about that. And that's my phone going crazy here
- 20:33Speaker 2: it honks it had honks it hanks when I get
- 20:37Speaker 2: a text.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Okay, anyone in particular, what who's with the honk noise?
- 20:44Speaker 1: What does it do when I call you a honks
- 20:47Speaker 1: h Yeah, I'd like La cucar Utcha to play point.
- 20:52Speaker 2: It's a honking horn. Anyway, back we are to the
- 20:56Speaker 2: malls that have literally been destroyed by the vandals, destroyed
- 21:03Speaker 2: by the homeless people who are living inside. The Westminster Mall,
- 21:07Speaker 2: for example, it will first open in nineteen seventy four.
- 21:11Speaker 2: JC Penny was there, gone, Victoria's Secret was there. I
- 21:16Speaker 2: don't know are they still in business Victoria's Secret. But
- 21:18Speaker 2: they've closed a lot of stores Anti Auntie and no Idea.
- 21:23Speaker 2: What that is like a pretzel? Yeah, it's like a press.
- 21:25Speaker 2: They have a lot of like Wetzel's pretzels and a
- 21:28Speaker 2: lot of those stores and what they're being used for
- 21:32Speaker 2: is eventually they're going to be transformed into the mixed
- 21:35Speaker 2: use development. They'll be retail space, housing. But that's hideously expensive. Right.
- 21:40Speaker 2: The malls have closed, as I said, do to consumer
- 21:43Speaker 2: shopping habits going just gone. Also, the land itself has
- 21:49Speaker 2: become so valuable in many cases that the develop the
- 21:53Speaker 2: opportunities are great, and the owners just shut them down
- 21:56Speaker 2: and say we'd rather develop them or sell them because
- 21:59Speaker 2: of the land. And it's really expensive. You have to
- 22:03Speaker 2: level them all and then you have to build something new,
- 22:07Speaker 2: and that takes years and costs tons of money. But
- 22:10Speaker 2: if you look at the videos there, they are people
- 22:12Speaker 2: tagging the storefronts, skateboarding, riding bicycles inside, just destroying them all.
- 22:18Speaker 2: The Hawthorn Plaza, for example, closed nineteen ninety nine and videos,
- 22:24Speaker 2: music videos were shot in there, and a lot of them,
- 22:28Speaker 2: Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Travis Scott. Because it is desolate, it
- 22:34Speaker 2: has a lot of trash in there, and it's just
- 22:37Speaker 2: one of those backdrops that a lot of these Hollywood
- 22:40Speaker 2: stars and major music acts tend to go. Now, you know,
- 22:45Speaker 2: I've always wondered about that. You get someone who's worth
- 22:47Speaker 2: a billion dollars, Taylor Swift, it then does a video
- 22:50Speaker 2: in the mall that is being destroyed. Valley Plaza in
- 22:53Speaker 2: North Hollywood. I grew up in North Hollywood. I remember
- 22:55Speaker 2: going there constantly. It was once the largest shopping center
- 22:59Speaker 2: on the West Coast. Ten years has been abandoned and
- 23:02Speaker 2: the hot spot for fires and criminal activities. It was
- 23:05Speaker 2: demolished last year. In San Bernardino, the Carousel Mall has
- 23:10Speaker 2: now become a center for criminal activity, meth labs, that
- 23:16Speaker 2: dot every store. That's not true. That was for Kno's sake,
- 23:20Speaker 2: that's close. I know, I know fires. There was a
- 23:23Speaker 2: shooting there. There was an electrocution there. Now that's entertainment.
- 23:28Speaker 2: When someone gets electrocuted. Does that happened with a gnawing
- 23:31Speaker 2: through wires? I don't know, I don't know. There must
- 23:34Speaker 2: have been there must have been a live wire there
- 23:36Speaker 2: and someone got hit with a nice big jolt, And
- 23:42Speaker 2: I mean, that's really entertainment. That was demolished in twenty
- 23:45Speaker 2: twenty three and there it is empty. Now there's some
- 23:49Speaker 2: that are doing pretty well. The West Sidevilion. It closed
- 23:54Speaker 2: in twenty nineteen and was later purchased and it was abandoned,
- 23:58Speaker 2: but it's doing great as a building because it was
- 24:02Speaker 2: later bought by UCLA, which is transforming it into a
- 24:05Speaker 2: Research Center, so that one is doing well even though
- 24:08Speaker 2: close closing. So you know, what do you do with
- 24:14Speaker 2: malls in southern California that have closed and they're now
- 24:17Speaker 2: I sores and they now have become playground for vandals.
- 24:21Speaker 2: You shut them down and a lot of them put
- 24:25Speaker 2: fences up. Of fences don't stop people from going over
- 24:27Speaker 2: there because security. But that's a loss. So you take
- 24:32Speaker 2: them down, and we're going to see the loss of
- 24:36Speaker 2: the mall. Now. Neil and I have talked about this before,
- 24:39Speaker 2: and that is the only way any kind of retail establishment,
- 24:43Speaker 2: especially malls, can survive, is to make it an experience
- 24:50Speaker 2: to go there. Yeah, and you know, for example, I'm
- 24:54Speaker 2: off to next I think March April and taking on
- 24:58Speaker 2: vacation and I happen to be going to Dubai Go
- 25:04Speaker 2: Figure and Dubai they have a mall, one of the
- 25:08Speaker 2: biggest in the world, and they have a full ski
- 25:13Speaker 2: they have a full ski parsh portion of the mall.
- 25:16Speaker 2: It's one hundred and twenty degrees outside in Dubai and
- 25:19Speaker 2: inside there's a whole section there's a whole part of
- 25:22Speaker 2: it that have been sectioned off and they put a
- 25:24Speaker 2: slope in there. And you can ski inside. That's destination.
- 25:30Speaker 2: The Mall of America in Minnesota has a full Disneyland
- 25:35Speaker 2: type of amusement park in there. Rides that's in the mall,
- 25:40Speaker 2: so that's what you have to do. We don't have
- 25:41Speaker 2: anything like that, but we do have is a break.
