- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites from the Volume podcast Network. I
- 0:13Speaker 1: am your host, Chad Millman, and very soon the Favorites
- 0:18Speaker 1: will begin diving deep into all things football every Tuesday
- 0:24Speaker 1: and Thursday, starting next week, all the way through the
- 0:29Speaker 1: Super Bowl. That's right, me and Simon Hunter twice a week,
- 0:35Speaker 1: double the Football fund as we've done in the past,
- 0:38Speaker 1: but for one last Thursday, let us enter the Thursday Thunderdome.
- 0:47Speaker 1: And before we get there, I'm going a little off
- 0:50Speaker 1: scripts here, Matt Mitchell. We do owe a debt of gratitude,
- 0:53Speaker 1: a huge thank you, a kudos to producer Matt Mitchell,
- 0:57Speaker 1: who dreamed up The Thursday Thunderdome, which I think maybe
- 1:01Speaker 1: one of the most creative podcasts we've done in the
- 1:04Speaker 1: short history of the Action Network, and who came up
- 1:07Speaker 1: with all the questions, did all the research, wrote all
- 1:09Speaker 1: the scripts every single week. The man is a one
- 1:13Speaker 1: man content machine. Matt Mitchell. When you conceived The Thursday Thunderdome,
- 1:20Speaker 1: did you in any way expected to last as long
- 1:24Speaker 1: as it did and then to be the lift that
- 1:26Speaker 1: it was every single week? No, I've been delighted that
- 1:30Speaker 1: it's been. As our episode description outlines, the most celebrated
- 1:34Speaker 1: sports betting podcast game show in media history. So it's
- 1:39Speaker 1: been very, very gratifying guests. It has perfectly lived up
- 1:42Speaker 1: to the description. On today's show, our special guests will
- 1:45Speaker 1: compete alongside professional sports better my companion Simon Hunter in
- 1:52Speaker 1: a championship round of wagers and wits. That's made this show,
- 1:56Speaker 1: as we've said, the most successful offseason addition to our
- 1:58Speaker 1: gambling portfolio since we took the Packers to win the
- 2:02Speaker 1: Super Bowl A one. What's up, Simon Yad, It's it's
- 2:07Speaker 1: a happy day and a sad day. I am gonna
- 2:09Speaker 1: miss these Thursday thunder Dames as much as it brings
- 2:12Speaker 1: joy to Man Mitchell's Howard, I hate losing, you know,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I hate losing, and it's basically a stack deck against
- 2:18Speaker 1: me every week we do this, so it's one of
- 2:21Speaker 1: my favorite old saints. I suffered for my art. Now
- 2:24Speaker 1: it's your turn. That's what it feels like we've been
- 2:26Speaker 1: doing here on this show. I feel like I've just
- 2:28Speaker 1: been suffering Matt Mitchell's fantasy and now it's over. Next
- 2:31Speaker 1: week we get to be back to football. So whatever
- 2:34Speaker 1: happens today, I'm trying to go out on w just
- 2:36Speaker 1: to end the year on a win. Well, listen, you
- 2:38Speaker 1: have two stellar opponents today. Uh they are masters of trivia.
- 2:44Speaker 1: In fact, during the pandemic, one of these men started
- 2:49Speaker 1: the Action Network Trivia show and did his own research
- 2:53Speaker 1: every single week, challenging us to trivia. Your first challenger
- 2:58Speaker 1: his return guests to the Thunderdome. He's our favorite Arkansas
- 3:02Speaker 1: razorback whoa PIGSUI the heartbeat of Actions college football coverage,
- 3:08Speaker 1: and starting next week, you'll hear him on our brand
- 3:12Speaker 1: new B B O C podcast. That's the Big Bets
- 3:17Speaker 1: on Campus podcast. Starting next week, everyone download the Action
- 3:23Speaker 1: Networks all new college sports betting show. Welcome back to
- 3:29Speaker 1: the show, Colin Wilson, thanks for having me chat. Thanks
- 3:31Speaker 1: for having me Simon. Yeah, I was swimming this week
- 3:34Speaker 1: in the A C C. Coastal. I had some bets
- 3:37Speaker 1: on Victor Hoveland to win some Olympic gold and I
- 3:40Speaker 1: had to watch him chipping and getting bogeys at like
- 3:43Speaker 1: one o'clock in the morning. So when I heard that
- 3:45Speaker 1: I was doing the show to beat Simon again, I
- 3:47Speaker 1: was more than excited to come back. So I'm welcome
- 3:50Speaker 1: to me here. Well, Also, you're busy prap you're you're
- 3:52Speaker 1: busy um studying baseball for our show Payoff Pitch, which
- 3:56Speaker 1: is absolutely excellent. And this week we'll have a brand
- 3:59Speaker 1: new feature that you and I are working on together,
- 4:02Speaker 1: which I can't wait. Monday's seven pm Eastern at Action
- 4:04Speaker 1: Network h Q. Check it out. Simon, your second Challenger,
- 4:08Speaker 1: is one of the most beloved, most unique, most irreplaceable
- 4:11Speaker 1: members of the Action Network content team, writer, handicapper, analyst,
- 4:17Speaker 1: app ambassador, Collins co host and the Big Bets on
- 4:22Speaker 1: Campus podcast Starting next week, our very own trivia King Stucky.
- 4:31Speaker 1: What's going on Chata and Simon and Colin. I guess
- 4:33Speaker 1: I gotta talk about my bets. I've only had one
- 4:35Speaker 1: Olympic bet so far, which was this morning with Sunny Lee.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Had to watch it on the Paramount app to win
- 4:40Speaker 1: the gold and the women's all Around. It was thrilling
- 4:42Speaker 1: to one by, like, I think a tent of a point.
- 4:45Speaker 1: That's my only bet so far. I love the women's
- 4:48Speaker 1: always love the women's All around every year. And yeah,
- 4:51Speaker 1: I do consider myself sort of a trivia connoisseur and
- 4:55Speaker 1: in sports and in other things. But we'll see what
- 4:57Speaker 1: questions Mitchell has cooked up alright, one thing I want
- 5:00Speaker 1: to be clear on. Look, Colin and Stucky. They are
- 5:02Speaker 1: the kings of our podcast network. No one does it better.
- 5:06Speaker 1: They are personality plus great representatives of everything that is
- 5:11Speaker 1: the Action Network. I listen to their podcast and I
- 5:14Speaker 1: think it is how we sound when we present information
- 5:18Speaker 1: they do. The Action Network Colleges Podcast nothing is changing.
- 5:22Speaker 1: We're just giving it a new name and it's getting
- 5:24Speaker 1: its own channel starting next week. So if you love
- 5:27Speaker 1: what's Stucky and Colin do on the Action Network Colleges Podcast,
- 5:30Speaker 1: which during the season is Monday and Friday with the
- 5:33Speaker 1: voicemails from fans where they hate on Colin and Stucky,
- 5:36Speaker 1: It's one of our favorite features and favorite segments that
- 5:38Speaker 1: we have in all of Action Network. Go download, Go
- 5:40Speaker 1: subscribe to the new BBOC Big Bets on Campus pod.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Same great hosts, the Star, Ski and Hutch of the
- 5:49Speaker 1: Action Network are just getting a new name for their
- 5:52Speaker 1: podcast and a new feed starting next week. So stay tuned,
- 5:56Speaker 1: Come on, do it already, do it, do it, do it.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Here's how the game is played today. You'll answer two
- 6:04Speaker 1: kinds of questions. First, traditional trivia questions about sports, sports, betting,
- 6:07Speaker 1: and the world at large second, completely subjective and totally
- 6:11Speaker 1: ass and I and open ended questions or prompts that
- 6:13Speaker 1: I alone will judge. Last time. That's going to happen
- 6:17Speaker 1: this season, folks. To accumulate points, you must answer the
- 6:20Speaker 1: trivia questions correctly and also convince me that your responses
- 6:25Speaker 1: to those open ended prompts are better than the responses
- 6:28Speaker 1: from your opponents. Let's begin Part one Japanese American athletes.
- 6:35Speaker 1: The Summer Olympics are underway, which means the city of
- 6:38Speaker 1: Tokyo and the country of Japan have entered the international spotlight,
- 6:43Speaker 1: whether they like it or not. In honor of the
- 6:46Speaker 1: many bonds between the Land of the Rising Sun and
- 6:48Speaker 1: the United States, let's highlight some of history's most famous
- 6:52Speaker 1: Japanese American athletes. Stucky a two part question for you.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Catcher Kurt Suzuki is a fourth generation Japanese American who
- 7:02Speaker 1: entered the Major's way back in two thousand seven and
- 7:05Speaker 1: won a World Series with the Nationals in two thousand nineteen.
- 7:09Speaker 1: He also won the two thousand four College World Series
- 7:11Speaker 1: with cal State Fullerton, a team nicknamed the who uses
- 7:17Speaker 1: this animal as its mascot? So I need two answers
- 7:21Speaker 1: here the name of the nickname for cal State Fullerton
- 7:26Speaker 1: and the animal that it uses as its mascot, cal
- 7:32Speaker 1: State Fullerton, is that are the Titans and the animal
- 7:37Speaker 1: that it uses as its mascot coyote. I have no
- 7:41Speaker 1: idea it is an elephant. Oh. I did know that
- 7:47Speaker 1: his name to Yeah, there you go. I did know,
- 7:51Speaker 1: not now that you said it, but I couldn't. I
- 7:53Speaker 1: wouldn't have thought of it. Wow, stuck. He considers himself
- 7:55Speaker 1: the trivia king and kind of has all this in
- 7:58Speaker 1: his head and couldn't get there. Simon, It's an opening
- 8:01Speaker 1: for you. The son of a Japanese American father and
- 8:05Speaker 1: Irish American mother, Don Wakamatsu became the first manager of
- 8:09Speaker 1: Asian descent in Major League Baseball when this American league
- 8:14Speaker 1: team gave him the job in two thousand nine. Seattle
- 8:18Speaker 1: Mariners Correct Colin. One of the most decorated Winter Olympians ever,
- 8:25Speaker 1: this speed skater was the youngest US national champion ever
- 8:29Speaker 1: at the age of fourteen, before going on to win
- 8:32Speaker 1: eight Olympic medals. His first gold medal came in two
- 8:36Speaker 1: thousand two in the fift hundred meter short track. I'm
- 8:42Speaker 1: picturing his face and I don't know his name. I'll
- 8:44Speaker 1: say his first name is Matt Apollo Antony. Short track
- 8:54Speaker 1: speed skating is such a crapshoot of a sport. You
- 8:58Speaker 1: watch that and you think it doesn't matter how good
- 9:01Speaker 1: you are. If you're not in the lead early, if
- 9:03Speaker 1: you're lucky enough to not be clipped, that's how you're
- 9:06Speaker 1: going to win the race. I don't care if you're Apollo,
- 9:08Speaker 1: anton On, No or me. It's kind of like betting NASCAR, right,
- 9:12Speaker 1: it all comes down to the final lap and wiping out,
- 9:15Speaker 1: and uh, really, you're you're betting a roulette wheel speed
- 9:17Speaker 1: skating NASCAR, same thing. Here's the prompt, Fellows, this is
- 9:22Speaker 1: an easy one. What is the best country to be
- 9:26Speaker 1: an Olympic athlete? Simon your first I'm very pacific here.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I would be winning gold and surfing. I'd be from Fiji.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I'd go back just a legend to feed you for
- 9:36Speaker 1: the rest of my life, just living on a beach,
- 9:38Speaker 1: having beautiful women drinking drinks. They'd be the life chat.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So if I could be anywhere I win the gold,
- 9:44Speaker 1: I go back to my land of Fiji. I don't
- 9:46Speaker 1: mind that answer. I love I love the idea that
- 9:48Speaker 1: you can just hang loose and be free. If your
- 9:51Speaker 1: life until until climate change knox Knocks are country under water,
- 9:55Speaker 1: I get like twenty thirty good years. I don't even
- 9:58Speaker 1: think you get that, but well, if it makes people
- 10:00Speaker 1: feelingly better, Earth is gonna be here went long after
- 10:03Speaker 1: we're gone, So it doesn't matter what we do people,
- 10:05Speaker 1: it's it's all over. We've already gone so far. By
- 10:08Speaker 1: the way, Stucky, you're up next. I mean you have
- 10:11Speaker 1: to look at if you're asking me just one country
- 10:14Speaker 1: to win one gold. Um, I think you have to
- 10:18Speaker 1: look at a lot of the Asian countries which pay
- 10:20Speaker 1: the most. So not all countries pay at all if
- 10:23Speaker 1: you win to gold. Some pay. I think the US
- 10:26Speaker 1: is like thirty forty thousand if you win to gold.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Singapore is like seven hundred and fifty thousand if you
- 10:32Speaker 1: win to gold, Hong Kong is like six hundred thousand.
- 10:34Speaker 1: It's up there, and then Malaysia, which is what my
- 10:38Speaker 1: answer is gonna be. It's like three hundred and fifty
- 10:41Speaker 1: thousand and a monthly salary for life. So I'm taking
- 10:47Speaker 1: the monetary route. If it's just one gold for one country,
- 10:50Speaker 1: I look Asia with some of those countries that I
- 10:53Speaker 1: just mentioned that pay the most, and I'm going Malaysia
- 10:56Speaker 1: for just a one time payment and then you know
- 10:58Speaker 1: you're passive and for life. Can't beat that. I think
- 11:02Speaker 1: that's a great answer, totally practical and probably signments just
- 11:06Speaker 1: because like there's a glory and happiness and doing it
- 11:09Speaker 1: why he did it in yours is a little bit
- 11:10Speaker 1: more mercenary. I did see on TikTok this morning somebody
- 11:14Speaker 1: did a TikTok about how much each gold medalist makes
- 11:19Speaker 1: from their various countries. In the US was so far
- 11:22Speaker 1: down the list after the countries you just mentioned. I
- 11:25Speaker 1: like your answer to Colin. We have we have polarities
- 11:29Speaker 1: in the answers so far. What is your response. Yeah,
- 11:32Speaker 1: I mean there's this debate in life, like what makes
- 11:35Speaker 1: you happiest? Is it money or is it the experiences?
- 11:38Speaker 1: And some would argue that the money is what affords
- 11:40Speaker 1: you the ability to have experiences, is which we have
- 11:42Speaker 1: in these two answers. I think it's quite amazing we're
- 11:45Speaker 1: stuck you went. I think it highlights why we've been
- 11:48Speaker 1: so successful with our podcast for years, because I immediately
- 11:51Speaker 1: went to those countries too, And I mean I've heard
- 11:54Speaker 1: all about this weight liver from the Philippines that was
- 11:56Speaker 1: given six hundred thousand dollars two pieces of property. That's
- 12:00Speaker 1: outdone by Singapore. Now, as Stuck mentioned it, Singapore is
- 12:03Speaker 1: actually one million dollars for a gold medal, half million
- 12:07Speaker 1: for a silver and then a couple hundred thousand for
- 12:09Speaker 1: a bronze. There are sixty three islands in the Republic
- 12:12Speaker 1: of Singapore, and then you can bet with a million
- 12:15Speaker 1: dollars you could probably get one. And if you look
- 12:17Speaker 1: at the history of Singapore, like the Australian millionaires and billionaires,
- 12:22Speaker 1: like one of the Facebook founders owns like half those islands.
- 12:25Speaker 1: So yeah, give me a million dollars giving one of
- 12:27Speaker 1: the sixty three islands. Maybe my waves aren't as great
- 12:30Speaker 1: as Fiji, and maybe I'm not making as much money
- 12:32Speaker 1: as a monthly supplement income, but Singapore is the way
- 12:35Speaker 1: to go. It is a tax free haven. Why do
- 12:37Speaker 1: you think athletes don't want to play in California and
- 12:40Speaker 1: they want to go to Texas or Florida tax free haven?
- 12:44Speaker 1: Singapore is the answer. This is such a no brainer.
- 12:47Speaker 1: And let me just say that the best and I
- 12:50Speaker 1: will I will take it one step further. The experiences
- 12:53Speaker 1: that make you money are probably the best intersection, the
- 12:57Speaker 1: best VEN diagram there. And I will say that you're
- 13:00Speaker 1: answer is the best ven diagram of what the same
- 13:02Speaker 1: of what Simon presented and what's stuck he presented. Colin Wilson,
- 13:06Speaker 1: you are a Thunderdome champion and you have just proven
- 13:09Speaker 1: why well done. You've won the prompt. I am going
- 13:14Speaker 1: to donate all my funds to Apollo On. No, I
- 13:16Speaker 1: don't think he needs it. I think he made a
- 13:18Speaker 1: ton of dough and Dancing with the Stars. Part two.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Olympic upsets. Whether you're a gambler, a sports fan, or
- 13:24Speaker 1: just a good old fashioned patriot, few things can get
- 13:27Speaker 1: the blood pumping like an incredible Olympic upset. Let's remember
- 13:32Speaker 1: a few stucky. In one of the greatest upsets in
- 13:35Speaker 1: modern Olympic history, in the year two thousand, American Rulan
- 13:38Speaker 1: Gardner won a wrestling gold medal despite no prior international
- 13:42Speaker 1: or n C Double A titles. Gardner defeated Alexander Caroline,
- 13:46Speaker 1: who had won gold in every international competition since and
- 13:50Speaker 1: had gone six years without giving up a single point.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Caroline's nickname was the Russian Blank, a nod to the
- 13:58Speaker 1: caricatured depicts of the Russian Empire in old time newspaper
- 14:04Speaker 1: cartoons and the mascot of the nine eighty Moscow Olympics. Again,
- 14:10Speaker 1: the nickname was the Russian Blank. I mean, come on,
- 14:14Speaker 1: can you give? I mean, I don't. It is the
- 14:17Speaker 1: name of a famously public football team that has historically
- 14:24Speaker 1: bad quarterbacks that may or may not be on the
- 14:30Speaker 1: banner behind me. I'm gonna say the Russian Bear, well done.
- 14:35Speaker 1: I don't know how you got it well, just I mean,
- 14:39Speaker 1: just with some of that. I don't. I don't know
- 14:40Speaker 1: who that guy. I've heard of that upset before. In two,
- 14:43Speaker 1: I didn't know who that guy was. In nine, the
- 14:47Speaker 1: US Women's Olympic gymnastics team won America's hearts after capturing
- 14:51Speaker 1: the all around team gold. The underdog highlight came when
- 14:54Speaker 1: this gymnast and timeless American hero landed a near flawless
- 15:00Speaker 1: al to on a badly injured ankle before being carried
- 15:03Speaker 1: off by her coach. I know this because I was
- 15:07Speaker 1: on the other side of the curtain watching the Dream
- 15:09Speaker 1: Team to and nine and the Georgia Dome. It would
- 15:12Speaker 1: be Carrie Stroka very nice Simon. A huge Olympic upset
- 15:19Speaker 1: befell a US women's team in two thousand and eight.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Despite a seventy nine game win streak and three consecutive
- 15:25Speaker 1: gold medals, America's team in this sport lost to Japan
- 15:28Speaker 1: in the two thou finals despite beating them by a
- 15:31Speaker 1: combined thirteen to one and two prior meetings. Who was
- 15:35Speaker 1: this team? Uh Women's gymnastics Part two prompts Here you go.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Imagine you can select one country to win an incredible
- 15:49Speaker 1: underdog gold medal at this year's Olympics. What country and
- 15:54Speaker 1: what sport would you choose? And why? Stucky Europe First?
- 15:59Speaker 1: I mean the work. I think it's gonna be. You know,
- 16:02Speaker 1: I thought about like a hundred meter free, which is
- 16:05Speaker 1: always one of my favorites, maybe the men's all around gymnastics,
- 16:08Speaker 1: but I'm going the hundred meter dash, which is basically
- 16:12Speaker 1: determines every Olympics who the fastest man in the world is.
- 16:15Speaker 1: It would be really cool to be the fastest man
- 16:16Speaker 1: in the world. Plus there's probably you know, advertisement deals
- 16:20Speaker 1: that you could get with that. So I'm going gonna
- 16:23Speaker 1: be the fastest man in the world, and I'm gonna
- 16:24Speaker 1: do it for Monico. Going back to the money reasons,
- 16:28Speaker 1: Monica is one of the richest countries in the world,
- 16:31Speaker 1: and they've never had anybody when a Summer Olympic medal.
- 16:37Speaker 1: They actually did technically in like the in the twenties
- 16:40Speaker 1: for art. I don't know how that worked, but it
- 16:42Speaker 1: doesn't technically count in the when they count them all up.
- 16:45Speaker 1: So Monica has never won a gold medal. So I'm
- 16:49Speaker 1: going Monco. I'm gonna be the fastest man in the world.
- 16:51Speaker 1: And then who knows what they'll give me when I
- 16:52Speaker 1: go back. I mean, for example, you know Trinidad and Tobago,
- 16:57Speaker 1: they had they had a guy in two thousand twelve
- 17:00Speaker 1: when his second ever gold for the country, and they
- 17:03Speaker 1: gave him a hundred fifty cash, they gave they named
- 17:06Speaker 1: the plane after him, a lighthouse after him, they gave
- 17:09Speaker 1: him a penthouse, and they gave him like acres of
- 17:13Speaker 1: land or something, so who knows. And it was a
- 17:15Speaker 1: national holiday from the day that he wanted. So who
- 17:17Speaker 1: knows what Monica will do. We'll do if I get
- 17:20Speaker 1: their first goal. I'll be the fastest man of the
- 17:22Speaker 1: world when win all around. So I'm going fastest man
- 17:24Speaker 1: in the world for Monaco. I love that answer. It's
- 17:27Speaker 1: inspired because I can't imagine a more glamorous event to
- 17:32Speaker 1: win than the hundred meter dash. You're right, there is
- 17:34Speaker 1: like an aura that surrounds being the fastest man in
- 17:37Speaker 1: the world. It is his high profile and is sort
- 17:41Speaker 1: of beautiful an event as there is at the Olympics,
- 17:45Speaker 1: just pure speed and strength and being that glamorous. In Monaco,
- 17:51Speaker 1: they probably give you at least a tucks. You would
- 17:54Speaker 1: get to look great at con like. It just could
- 17:57Speaker 1: be amazing. So I'm with you, Colin, No, I think
- 18:04Speaker 1: I got it. I mean this one came to me
- 18:05Speaker 1: pretty easy. Let's do a little geography real quick. There's
- 18:09Speaker 1: a country called Aera Trea and if you don't know
- 18:11Speaker 1: where that's out, that is close to the Horn of Africa,
- 18:14Speaker 1: close to Jajibouti uh. And what Erra Trea is really
- 18:19Speaker 1: known for is they have multiple competitors in the steeple
- 18:22Speaker 1: chase at the Olympics. But one thing I knew about
- 18:25Speaker 1: Air Trea is I was thinking about this question is
- 18:27Speaker 1: they're one of two countries that competes in the Olympics,
- 18:31Speaker 1: but their countries have a ban against firearms. So if
- 18:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna win a gold medal, it's gonna be for
- 18:39Speaker 1: Aera Trea and it's gonna be in shooting. I don't
- 18:42Speaker 1: care if it's rifle, pistol, trap, men's, women's mixed doubles,
- 18:47Speaker 1: it doesn't matter, ten meters prone standing, laying, it doesn't matter.
- 18:52Speaker 1: If you come from a country where they have banned
- 18:55Speaker 1: firearms and you win a gold medal, that's the goat.
- 18:59Speaker 1: They're playing fire arms in a tree right now, though,
- 19:03Speaker 1: But what's the glory that you figured out how to
- 19:07Speaker 1: win in an event that requires firearms from a country
- 19:10Speaker 1: that firearms are banned. Think about like your practice, your training,
- 19:14Speaker 1: and you're practicing like you're always gonna have I mean,
- 19:17Speaker 1: there's gonna be certain security checks, you're gonna have to
- 19:20Speaker 1: flash an I D every time you get pulled over,
- 19:22Speaker 1: like you're gonna be under such scrutiny. Like just to
- 19:24Speaker 1: get to the Olympics as one of these shooting competitors
- 19:28Speaker 1: has got to be tough and from your own country.
- 19:30Speaker 1: And then when to win the gold medal when nobody
- 19:32Speaker 1: else is allowed to legally disperse a firearm, I just
- 19:35Speaker 1: think that would be fantastic terrible answer. That's your first
- 19:39Speaker 1: bad answer, the first bad answer in the history of
- 19:43Speaker 1: the Thursday Thunderdome. Simon, You've got a big opening here
- 19:47Speaker 1: right now, so obviously you're gonna see a theme here
- 19:51Speaker 1: that I have surfing on my mind. Chat. It's just
- 19:53Speaker 1: the way it is. I'm just I'm all in on
- 19:55Speaker 1: surfing in the Olympics. I love it so much so.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Bolivia is a land locked country in South America. But
- 20:02Speaker 1: they weren't always landlocked. They actually used to be connected
- 20:04Speaker 1: to the ocean, but there was damn people from Chili.
- 20:07Speaker 1: They stole land from him, and no longer Bolivia had
- 20:10Speaker 1: any coastal line. So for me, I would love to
- 20:12Speaker 1: win a gold for Bolivia, and then you'd go back
- 20:15Speaker 1: and they would have a whole thing about this guy
- 20:17Speaker 1: who he didn't have an ocean to serve connected to
- 20:19Speaker 1: his country, and you end up winning gold and just
- 20:21Speaker 1: bring more awareness to how Bolivia used to have waterfront
- 20:24Speaker 1: land and now they don't because Chili stole it over
- 20:26Speaker 1: eighty years ago. So Colin wants to win a shooting
- 20:32Speaker 1: event in a country where firearms are banned. You want
- 20:35Speaker 1: to go and find glory for a landlocked Bolivian country.
- 20:41Speaker 1: It's a political statement. Yeah, we're a pretty superficial group.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I'm not into I'm not into political statements for Bolivia.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I'm into glamour and glory. Give me the fastest man
- 20:53Speaker 1: in the world from Monaco. This is a All I
- 20:57Speaker 1: can see is James Bond. In this situation, Stucky wins that.
- 21:02Speaker 1: We are now through the first two rounds to tight rask.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Stucky has one point, Colin has two point, Simon has
- 21:08Speaker 1: one point. Here we go part of three, avoiding the flop.
- 21:12Speaker 1: This is a great, great set up. I love this one.
- 21:16Speaker 1: The NBA Draft is tonight, much to the delight of
- 21:20Speaker 1: gamblers left hounding for any non baseball action. Why would
- 21:24Speaker 1: anyone want to do that? Anyways, when they can watch
- 21:26Speaker 1: Payoff Pitch at seven pm Eastern on Mondays on ad
- 21:29Speaker 1: Action Network HQ get other baseball betting needs. Teams will
- 21:32Speaker 1: be hoping to avoid massive busts, as the sting of
- 21:36Speaker 1: a draft flop can sometimes be felt for generations to come,
- 21:40Speaker 1: whether in the NFL or the NBA. So let's talk busts.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'll ask each of you two questions, one NBA in
- 21:47Speaker 1: one NFL. Stucky in the draft, the New Jersey Nets
- 21:52Speaker 1: selected this Nigerian big man, and in his first full season,
- 21:59Speaker 1: he'd play in fifty eight games and commits seventy two
- 22:02Speaker 1: turnovers without recording a single assist. This remains the record
- 22:07Speaker 1: for most games played in a season without a single assist.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Uh yesca da nice Stucky. Here we go more and more.
- 22:21Speaker 1: This is more on your field, stuck. St. Louis. Rams
- 22:25Speaker 1: were so excited to draft future bus Lawrence Phillips they
- 22:28Speaker 1: traded Hall of Famer Jerome Battist to the Steelers undrafted. Unfortunately,
- 22:32Speaker 1: the Rams didn't draft any of the three future Hall
- 22:35Speaker 1: of famers taken in that first round. Two of them,
- 22:39Speaker 1: Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis, were taken by your favorite team,
- 22:43Speaker 1: the Ravens. The third was this player, one of the
- 22:47Speaker 1: greatest whiteouts in Syracuse history, who landed in the a
- 22:52Speaker 1: f C East. I'm gonna say Syracuse wide receiver a
- 22:58Speaker 1: f C East, oh starving Marvin something else. That's the problem.
- 23:05Speaker 1: It was a good trick question if he said, if
- 23:07Speaker 1: you didn't give me this, because I was I was thinking,
- 23:09Speaker 1: Bill's totally Marvin Haryerson local Philly got to you grew
- 23:17Speaker 1: he was that's right. Thank you. I mean, my questions
- 23:19Speaker 1: were hard, Mitchell, but I got you gave me a
- 23:20Speaker 1: g w and uh a Philly guy, So thank you
- 23:23Speaker 1: for that. Those are tough. That was good. They're good,
- 23:25Speaker 1: good questions. Colin with the ninth pick in the NBA
- 23:31Speaker 1: draft and Milwaukee Bucks acquired future bust Robert Tractor Trailer
- 23:35Speaker 1: after they drafted and traded this international power forward who
- 23:39Speaker 1: go on to become the first European player to start
- 23:41Speaker 1: an All Star Game or win NBA MVP. For European
- 23:46Speaker 1: player to win NBA MVP, turk whiskey, There we go, Colin.
- 23:51Speaker 1: The Indianapolis Colts selected all time NFL draft bust Steve
- 23:56Speaker 1: Entman with the first pick in, but they could have
- 23:59Speaker 1: taken the player Washington's pick at number four, who went
- 24:02Speaker 1: on to a Super Bowl m v P and a
- 24:05Speaker 1: cushy college job at ESPN. He didn't win a Super
- 24:10Speaker 1: Bowl DP with the with the with Washington. Yeah, he
- 24:13Speaker 1: couldn't have. He couldn't have. He won a Super Bowl
- 24:16Speaker 1: MVP with the Packers, Charles Woods. Charles was on the
- 24:22Speaker 1: sidelines of the game and was knocked over by Dorsey
- 24:24Speaker 1: Levins and may or may not have gotten a concussion
- 24:27Speaker 1: and was spent the night puking in his hotel room.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Well that easily, now that you've said all that, I'm
- 24:33Speaker 1: gonna go with Charles Woodson. The answer is Desmond Howard.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Oh my god, I said, Packers, I gotta pick a
- 24:41Speaker 1: big ten. You got it all right, except for the
- 24:45Speaker 1: name Simon. With the fifth and sixth picks in the
- 24:49Speaker 1: two thousand nine NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves drafted guards
- 24:53Speaker 1: Ricky Ruby, Ricky Rubio and Syracuse bust Johnny Flynn instead
- 24:58Speaker 1: of this legendary Davidson college product who'd be taken with
- 25:01Speaker 1: the next pick, Curry Steph Curry. Yes, Simon. With the
- 25:06Speaker 1: eighth pick. In the two thousand eleven NFL draft, the
- 25:08Speaker 1: Tennessee Titans were too late to select Cam Newton, von Miller,
- 25:14Speaker 1: A J. Green, Patrick Peterson, or Julio Jones. Instead, they
- 25:19Speaker 1: unfortunately selected this QB bust from the Pacific Northwest who
- 25:25Speaker 1: would retire after his rookie contract expired. Oh my god,
- 25:29Speaker 1: I do remember this guy, Locker. You got it, Jake Locker,
- 25:34Speaker 1: Well done. Everyone did a good job on those except
- 25:37Speaker 1: for Colin. And before we go on, here a quick

- 27:17Speaker 1: dot one gambler dot net in West Virginia. All right,
- 27:23Speaker 1: here is the prompt. Imagine you're a huge first round
- 27:27Speaker 1: draft bust and you've washed out of the pros after
- 27:29Speaker 1: just a few seasons. How could you pivot and still
- 27:33Speaker 1: profit off of your sports legacy? Stucky europe feet. I
- 27:39Speaker 1: do appreciate getting Ginka Dari while uh Simon got Steph Curry.
- 27:43Speaker 1: But um Mitchell, I'm gonna say this for you if
- 27:47Speaker 1: this happened, if I was a bust, I would reach
- 27:49Speaker 1: out and network to both Chad Milman and Matt Mitchell
- 27:54Speaker 1: and leverage what I know about sports and in the
- 27:58Speaker 1: content space in sports betting, come work for Action Network.
- 28:01Speaker 1: I mean, what better transition. So basically, if you were
- 28:04Speaker 1: a bust, you'd be doing the exact same thing you're
- 28:06Speaker 1: doing now, Yeah, you're living. So what you're saying is
- 28:09Speaker 1: you're living your dream exactly. It's totally true. You've got
- 28:14Speaker 1: an incredible gig and you're doing an amazing job, and
- 28:16Speaker 1: I love you for it. It's a great answer, Colin
- 28:20Speaker 1: Stuckies answer tugs at my heartstrings and it's gonna be
- 28:23Speaker 1: hard to beat it because everyone knows I'm sentimental and
- 28:26Speaker 1: I love love Colin. So Chad, I think what I
- 28:30Speaker 1: think what everybody needs to realize is that just because
- 28:33Speaker 1: you know now that we're in the wake of the pandemic,
- 28:35Speaker 1: there's this thing that we're dealing with in college football
- 28:38Speaker 1: called super Senior, everybody has been granted an extra year
- 28:41Speaker 1: of eligibility. And what that means is is people like
- 28:45Speaker 1: me or people that didn't finish up their college career
- 28:48Speaker 1: can go back and have another year. He said, well,
- 28:50Speaker 1: there's no you know, there's no real money in that.
- 28:52Speaker 1: But now there's name, image likeness. So we're in the
- 28:56Speaker 1: wake of the pandemic, and what that means it's like
- 28:58Speaker 1: JaMarcus Russell can go back to college for l s U.
- 29:02Speaker 1: He could be sponsored by night Quill or a soda
- 29:05Speaker 1: company or hard candy. If I'm Larry Tunsul, I'm looking
- 29:08Speaker 1: for an n I L deal with an army surplus store.
- 29:11Speaker 1: If I'm Tim Couch, I'm probably trying to sell furniture.
- 29:15Speaker 1: I'm just saying if I'm if I'm a bust, I'm
- 29:17Speaker 1: going back to college for my super senior season, and
- 29:20Speaker 1: I'm taking local deals with the University of Arkansas, selling cars,
- 29:24Speaker 1: selling barbecue, selling all kinds of things in Northwest Arkansas.
- 29:28Speaker 1: That's exactly what I'd be doing, is spending my one
- 29:31Speaker 1: year of eligibility and using my name, image, likeness to profit.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I think that requires a movie fan sort of like
- 29:40Speaker 1: suspension of disbelief. But I love the idea because it
- 29:44Speaker 1: is a great premise for a movie. You are a
- 29:46Speaker 1: superstar athlete, you completely bust out after having your glory
- 29:51Speaker 1: years in college. You get to the NFL, You're nothing.
- 29:53Speaker 1: So what do you do? What do you do? You
- 29:55Speaker 1: get this gift from the n C double A. You
- 29:57Speaker 1: take one last shot to do you live those glory days.
- 30:01Speaker 1: It doesn't matter how old you are. You could be
- 30:04Speaker 1: thirty seven, you could be forty nine, you could be
- 30:06Speaker 1: fifty two. You get one more chance to go relive it. Brilliant.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I love sentiments stuck, but I like creativity more. Colin.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Don't say another word. Colin, you're in the lead right now.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Don't say another word. Simon. Yeah, I can't beat it.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I was gonna do a whole thing about how I
- 30:23Speaker 1: would live in the same city I got, like, you know,
- 30:26Speaker 1: I busted out, and I was the kind of the
- 30:27Speaker 1: thing where we fixed busted up houses, and that would
- 30:30Speaker 1: be my whole thing. Is like, I'm a bust now.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I fixed busted houses. But I can't touch Colin. This
- 30:35Speaker 1: is way too good to even compare. So I'm not
- 30:37Speaker 1: gonna go through all mine. Let me ask you something, honestly,
- 30:40Speaker 1: what the funk happened to you last night? Because your
- 30:43Speaker 1: answers are now Chad, you came to come in me.
- 30:46Speaker 1: You literally passed up on living in Fiji after a
- 30:48Speaker 1: gold medal being a king to go live in Singapore
- 30:50Speaker 1: for a million dollars. You're a joke. You don't even
- 30:53Speaker 1: try to come after your check. You want to find
- 30:56Speaker 1: political glory for Bolivia. You want to offend Bolivia and
- 31:01Speaker 1: now you want to go you want to go on
- 31:03Speaker 1: some house building crusade busted houses. I want to busted houses.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Where is the cruel, heartless wise guy that I've come
- 31:14Speaker 1: to love. I don't understand what's happening here. I fell
- 31:17Speaker 1: back in love last night, Chad. Is that what happened you?
- 31:19Speaker 1: The wine was flowing, my friend. I can't have you
- 31:22Speaker 1: falling in love before the football season. No distractions, no distractions. Stucky,
- 31:27Speaker 1: you've got three points. Colin, you've got four points. Simon,
- 31:30Speaker 1: you've got three points. I should take a point away
- 31:32Speaker 1: for your attitude. Right now? Here is the finale. Are
- 31:36Speaker 1: you ready, trail blazing basketballers? Before we start, please close
- 31:42Speaker 1: your eyes, hold up your fingers with your wager amounts. Stucky,
- 31:46Speaker 1: you can wager up to three. Colon up to four,
- 31:48Speaker 1: Simon up three. Here we go, here's the question. After
- 31:51Speaker 1: his selection in the basketball draft, Japanese American guard What
- 31:58Speaker 1: Missaka of the New York Knicks became the first non
- 32:01Speaker 1: Caucasian player to play in a modern pro basketball game.
- 32:06Speaker 1: The five seven Misaka enjoyed an incredible college basketball career,
- 32:11Speaker 1: winning a championship in every year he played. He began
- 32:15Speaker 1: with back to back junior college national titles at what
- 32:18Speaker 1: is now Weber State University. Misaka then transferred and immediately
- 32:24Speaker 1: led his new school to an n C Double A
- 32:26Speaker 1: Tournament title. After this, Missaka was drafted and served two
- 32:31Speaker 1: years in the army, but when he returned to school,
- 32:33Speaker 1: he didn't skip a beat. He led his team to
- 32:36Speaker 1: the much more prestigious n I T title in seven Today,
- 32:40Speaker 1: the college program plays in a Power five conference, and
- 32:44Speaker 1: Missaka's two titles remained the only basketball championships in program history.
- 32:51Speaker 1: And luckily, they're no longer known as the Redskins, having
- 32:56Speaker 1: changed their team nickname in nineteen seventy two. Please name
- 33:00Speaker 1: this program. I will call on Colin first. Colin, you're
- 33:28Speaker 1: up first, you had four points, you risked three points.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Give me your answer. A Power five team that used
- 33:35Speaker 1: to be named the Redskins. Yet I'm dealing with a
- 33:38Speaker 1: historical figure that won all the time, and a basketball
- 33:41Speaker 1: team that won all the time was U C l A.
- 33:44Speaker 1: I don't remember them ever being named the Redskins. I
- 33:46Speaker 1: don't remember them ever winning an n I T. But
- 33:48Speaker 1: all I know is is when lu All Cinder was around,
- 33:50Speaker 1: they won the national championship every single year. So I'll
- 33:53Speaker 1: go with U C l A. And I know what's wrong, dude,
- 33:57Speaker 1: lu Well Cinder played in college in the sixties. Colin,
- 34:01Speaker 1: you have one point. Stucky, you had three points. You
- 34:07Speaker 1: risked three points. What's your answer? I went with the
- 34:13Speaker 1: University of Utah to explain the answer? Is the University
- 34:20Speaker 1: of Utah the clue that gave it away. I didn't
- 34:23Speaker 1: know where you went to college, but was that. I
- 34:25Speaker 1: knew that they were named the Redskins before and I
- 34:27Speaker 1: was reading an article before, like Eastern Michigan used to
- 34:29Speaker 1: be like the Hurons and they changed it. They did
- 34:31Speaker 1: that in the early nineties, and I know the Utah
- 34:33Speaker 1: So that was the clue that I think gave it
- 34:36Speaker 1: away from me. They went to the national title in
- 34:37Speaker 1: the nineties, but I think that those would be their
- 34:39Speaker 1: only one explains the feather on the logo, Like I know,
- 34:42Speaker 1: the Utah Utes have always been in my brain, and
- 34:44Speaker 1: I can tell you about Andre Miller and all kinds
- 34:46Speaker 1: of stuff. I think you're beautiful. I think you're smart,
- 34:48Speaker 1: just the way you are, even if you're gonna lose
- 34:50Speaker 1: the thunderdome today, Stucky, you are a hundred percent correct.
- 34:54Speaker 1: You now have six points. Simon, what's your answer? You
- 34:57Speaker 1: had three? U risk three. I should have followed westco
- 35:00Speaker 1: so I was smart by these guys. I went with St. John's.
- 35:02Speaker 1: I was just trying to think of an old school
- 35:03Speaker 1: that I know used to be good, so I was
- 35:05Speaker 1: way off. Wow. Stucky the Action Network Trivia King, the
- 35:12Speaker 1: co host, along with Colin Wilson, of the soon to
