- 1:02Speaker 4: Backcard doing a a K one thousand dollars Barowski. Okay,
- 1:05Speaker 4: the Michael Jordan of wrestling for collecting. So Mark, explain
- 1:10Speaker 4: what's going on here. We'll do a little theme for
- 1:11Speaker 4: the next couple of months, right, Mark, we talk.
- 1:13Speaker 3: About Uh, this is my getting in the cars doing
- 1:17Speaker 3: all these road trips, going to R O.
- 1:19Speaker 5: H working We're gonna kind of break down Japan work there.
- 1:22Speaker 4: I gotta break it down breakdown in wrestler or for
- 1:26Speaker 4: Carlorette Matthews right with a Z. Actually it's with an S,
- 1:30Speaker 4: but it was we're gonna do Q and a's.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I love the Q and a idea for the Hard
- 1:36Speaker 1: Foundation members.
- 1:37Speaker 4: So yeah, for for timetables of our career, we're gonna
- 1:39Speaker 4: do this. One is indy, next month will be developmental,
- 1:43Speaker 4: and then so far so far, and so so on
- 1:46Speaker 4: and so on.
- 1:48Speaker 1: So we got a lot of great questions from the
- 1:50Speaker 1: major marks and the Facebook group, all based on your
- 1:53Speaker 1: indie runs, and I'm just gonna fire away.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Pre w w who submitted them all, Mary Kate, because
- 1:59Speaker 3: no one else knew who we were.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah, but you they know that you were wrestlers on
- 2:03Speaker 1: the indiview. It's not like why did you use this move?
- 2:07Speaker 1: And then why did you see in this.
- 2:10Speaker 5: The storyline with Wayne the convenience store guy was okay? Anyway?
- 2:14Speaker 1: All right, Marcus Brandon, I feel like we often hear
- 2:16Speaker 1: about Broski's trampoline league, so to my question is for Brian,
- 2:21Speaker 1: what was your first taste of wrestling? And how hold?
- 2:24Speaker 1: How old are you at the time.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Like beyond watching it?
- 2:29Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, no, yeah, like physical wrestling, backyard did you
- 2:32Speaker 1: backyard at all?
- 2:33Speaker 3: Okay, so I've told this story. I don't know. It
- 2:36Speaker 3: was like an interview or something I read with Brett Hart,
- 2:40Speaker 3: like when I was in middle school or late into
- 2:42Speaker 3: middle school, where he was burying backyard wrestling, saying that's
- 2:46Speaker 3: not what we do. You know, we're trained professionals. Don't
- 2:48Speaker 3: do that. You're being foolish if you do that, YadA
- 2:50Speaker 3: ya YadA, And I just took that to heart and
- 2:52Speaker 3: I was like, Okay. So even though it was like
- 2:54Speaker 3: a trend and really popular and I was for sure
- 2:56Speaker 3: like itchy as hell to like do something like that,
- 2:59Speaker 3: I was like, Bret Heart said, this cuntrue. So I
- 3:01Speaker 3: focused on like sports and stuff because that's what I
- 3:03Speaker 3: thought I should do. So I did, you know, football, wrestling, baseball,
- 3:08Speaker 3: you know, straight through high school.
- 3:11Speaker 5: The only thing I did even.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Remotely is uh, and we'll dig it out eventually. It's
- 3:19Speaker 3: I might be on a DVD, but it's definitely on VHS.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Is Me versus Papa Bear?
- 3:24Speaker 2: Uh.
- 3:25Speaker 3: It was like for our Spanish class, like we were
- 3:28Speaker 3: supposed to do something and we were just completely basically
- 3:31Speaker 3: fucking around and we didn't want to do what we
- 3:33Speaker 3: were really.
- 3:33Speaker 5: Supposed to do.
- 3:33Speaker 3: We're supposed to like so we I think we said
- 3:37Speaker 3: we were doing no holds barred too, but like we
- 3:40Speaker 3: were to speak in Spanish, but we had a backyard batch.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Oh my god.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Yeah, so like when we speak, we were like speaking
- 3:47Speaker 3: in really bad broken Hirish.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Die to see this we got to see.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it's pretty unreal and that's it. And we fought
- 3:56Speaker 3: all through my parents' house. It's out into the snow,
- 3:58Speaker 3: and I think I beat him with a Rakishi driver
- 4:01Speaker 3: in this giant snowbank.
- 4:04Speaker 4: A Sultan driver.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Yeah, but yeah, that's that's why I never got into it.
- 4:09Speaker 5: And trust me, like especially at that.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Point, backyard race backyard wrestling was so popular and like trendy,
- 4:15Speaker 3: and like I was very itchy to do it.
- 4:17Speaker 4: I just was like the kid's backyard wrestle. Now, like
- 4:20Speaker 4: I don't know if it's a thing.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Maybe I could see the anything still it's less like
- 4:27Speaker 5: mainstream and cool, but I'm sure it was a thing.
- 4:29Speaker 3: It was a thing video games and it was cool.
- 4:33Speaker 5: All loved it.
- 4:34Speaker 1: John Soulio Swallow, Swallow, What was the hardest part of
- 4:40Speaker 1: wrestling school, the bumps, the financial issues, relationship issues, et cetera.
- 4:47Speaker 4: First, like for me, you know, I was backyarding and
- 4:52Speaker 4: like I didn't know what I was doing. I knew
- 4:54Speaker 4: moves and stuff like that, and like I thought I
- 4:56Speaker 4: was so good And it wasn't until I got to
- 4:58Speaker 4: wrestling school and I realized there was actual formula to
- 5:01Speaker 4: a match. And at first it was like hard for
- 5:03Speaker 4: me to comprehend. Like I've been watching wrestling my whole life,
- 5:05Speaker 4: I didn't did. I thought I knew everything, but I
- 5:07Speaker 4: didn't know there was something called shine hea didn't come back.
- 5:10Speaker 4: It's like understand that concept was like confusing. But then,
- 5:13Speaker 4: like I remember, Mike, you wou kind of like drew
- 5:15Speaker 4: it out in like a dry erase board or a chalkboard, and.
- 5:18Speaker 5: I'll never forget.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I had like an aha moment. I think, Yeah, like
- 5:22Speaker 4: once he like explained it like that, I really understood
- 5:25Speaker 4: it and it really is so simple. But like like
- 5:27Speaker 4: I said, I was a diehard wrestling fan doing this
- 5:29Speaker 4: back at wrestling and I never even picked up on
- 5:32Speaker 4: the shine heat come back portion of a match.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Yeah, for me, I think it was just like the
- 5:38Speaker 3: the persistence of it and like the patients, because it's
- 5:41Speaker 3: like if you go to a regular gym and you know,
- 5:44Speaker 3: whatever you have it you do you do arms for
- 5:45Speaker 3: the day, You're not going to walk out of that
- 5:47Speaker 3: gym and have like big, awesome biceps. It's when you
- 5:50Speaker 3: do it, you know, every week for this amount of time.
- 5:53Speaker 3: And that's how pro wrestling is. It's so weird and
- 5:56Speaker 3: it's an art craft and it's it's so bizarre and
- 5:59Speaker 3: unique to itself and it takes a lot of like
- 6:02Speaker 3: discipline and learning and patience, and I think that's what
- 6:05Speaker 3: you know. There's no like instant uh satisfaction when you're
- 6:10Speaker 3: trained to be a pro wrestler. Really, you know that,
- 6:12Speaker 3: Like Matt said, like people who like watch their whole lives. Yeah,
- 6:16Speaker 3: you can like okay, do a move and you know
- 6:18Speaker 3: because you watched it and you're pretty close to it.
- 6:21Speaker 5: But you know, that's about it.
- 6:23Speaker 1: As averletic guys, did you guys ever have issues picking
- 6:27Speaker 1: things up or it was just pretty much easy for you?
- 6:29Speaker 4: Like I remember, like, so this is horrible to say,
- 6:32Speaker 4: but like I came from backyard wrestling where it was
- 6:35Speaker 4: on public access, and like one of our guys Steel
- 6:38Speaker 4: Cage Customs went to NYWC to learn how to wrestle
- 6:41Speaker 4: and then would come and teach us like chain and
- 6:43Speaker 4: stuff like that. It's like I couldn't like admit that,
- 6:46Speaker 4: so I would have to be like, hey, guys, can
- 6:48Speaker 4: you teach me this? Knowing that knew how to do it,
- 6:50Speaker 4: just want to start using it in practice. And then
- 6:52Speaker 4: eventually like Spider came in, like yo, whanka, that's Bret
- 6:55Speaker 4: Matthews and like he do like rather be at Yeah.
- 7:00Speaker 4: But I remember like it was like the first day
- 7:02Speaker 4: of the first week. I forget who was actually like
- 7:05Speaker 4: training with me, and this guy Ken Scampy, who was
- 7:08Speaker 4: before Mikey Whipper was like the real trainer, was like
- 7:10Speaker 4: whoever was there that day was training and he said
- 7:13Speaker 4: like raise your hand if you want to like make
- 7:14Speaker 4: it the WWE, and like I did, and maybe like
- 7:16Speaker 4: one or two other people did, and I'm thinking, like, well, fuck,
- 7:19Speaker 4: why are you in this mist school? You don't want
- 7:20Speaker 4: to be a WWE. That's what I'm thinking about. Everyone
- 7:22Speaker 4: else didn't raise their head and then like he like
- 7:24Speaker 4: healed us out and like started like chopping us, saying
- 7:26Speaker 4: we're never gonna make it, and like I left that
- 7:28Speaker 4: day thinking like what the fuck am I doing? You know,
- 7:31Speaker 4: like why am I getting like chopped for wanting to
- 7:35Speaker 4: be a wae wrestler, Like isn't that why I went
- 7:38Speaker 4: to wrestling school. It's not like I went to like
- 7:40Speaker 4: like a baseball camp and and I'm saying I want
- 7:42Speaker 4: to be a wrestler, way the wrestle of school say
- 7:44Speaker 4: I want to be a wrestler. So like, mentally, it
- 7:46Speaker 4: was kind of like what am I doing?
- 7:48Speaker 5: Ken Scampy was a swell guy one time, Like it.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Was like had to be like three weeks ish into
- 7:56Speaker 3: like wrestling training. He like he gave me like a
- 8:00Speaker 3: like I don't remember what if it was a kick
- 8:01Speaker 3: or a punch or whatever, but it was a pro
- 8:02Speaker 3: wrestling style strike, so like I didn't actually feel it,
- 8:05Speaker 3: and then I couldn't I didn't know how to sell
- 8:07Speaker 3: yet I didn't realize like, oh, I don't know.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Like it was.
- 8:11Speaker 3: I think what happened was I winced and I closed
- 8:13Speaker 3: my eye so I didn't see like where he hit me,
- 8:15Speaker 3: so I didn't react to and he got hot that
- 8:17Speaker 3: in some and he just flat out like looked at
- 8:19Speaker 3: me and then kicked me dead and dick with like
- 8:21Speaker 3: a soccer kick.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Jesus, And I actually like Skimpy a lot, But some
- 8:27Speaker 4: of that earlier stuff I do, I do like scat
- 8:31Speaker 4: I do funny.
- 8:33Speaker 1: They answered that question is getting kicked in the penis
- 8:36Speaker 1: Michael Ricco. What were their expectations when they got into
- 8:41Speaker 1: the business on the indie scene.
- 8:44Speaker 3: To get to w W A, Yeah, I don't know, Like, yeah,
- 8:46Speaker 3: it's so. I mean I tell people this will come
- 8:49Speaker 3: to my school now, Like it's okay to to look
- 8:54Speaker 3: at it, like the way my civilian friends, like they
- 8:57Speaker 3: play softball. They have a softball league and they it's
- 8:59Speaker 3: their one thing they look forward to. Like you can
- 9:02Speaker 3: have that mentality, that's fine, but so much more would
- 9:07Speaker 3: go into it because it's wrestling than just showing up
- 9:10Speaker 3: to play softball, and it's souffle like you know, like
- 9:12Speaker 3: it's a lot more just dangerous and time consuming and
- 9:15Speaker 3: it's just it's a weird thing to have your foot,
- 9:19Speaker 3: you know, only one foot in the pond of it,
- 9:22Speaker 3: you know.
- 9:22Speaker 4: Right, Like you need gear. You need to look good.
- 9:24Speaker 4: You need to be in shape, both like look like
- 9:27Speaker 4: you're in shape and actually be in shape be able
- 9:29Speaker 4: to go have like gas in the tank, be.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Athletic learn this weird psychology, like all kinds of.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot they're you know, I don't have a
- 9:37Speaker 4: wrestling school. I can't pretend to know what it's like.
- 9:40Speaker 4: But like I can speak to when I was at
- 9:42Speaker 4: a school, and there were definitely people there who just
- 9:44Speaker 4: wanted to wrestle that one Saturday in front of their
- 9:46Speaker 4: friends and family at the Deer Park Community Center. And
- 9:48Speaker 4: that was fine, and that's that's cool, But I.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Do you want that? You want? They need to take
- 9:52Speaker 1: it seriously?
- 9:53Speaker 3: Yeah, because you still have to take it to a
- 9:55Speaker 3: certain level of seriousness to even just you're putting other
- 9:58Speaker 3: people's life is livelihood in your hands.
- 10:00Speaker 5: It's freaking dangerous. Man. You can't just be there to
- 10:02Speaker 5: hang out and have fun. Really.
- 10:03Speaker 4: And I remember one time, so Brian started like the
- 10:08Speaker 4: summer before me, then went away to school, but he
- 10:11Speaker 4: was still like at the school. It would come back
- 10:12Speaker 4: for like Thanksgiving or whatever the breaks, and she liked
- 10:14Speaker 4: the entry in it. But I was there, so we
- 10:16Speaker 4: didn't really quite know each other, but then we became
- 10:18Speaker 4: partners blah blah blah. But then I remember, like while
- 10:21Speaker 4: Brian was like away at school, like Shane or Wayne.
- 10:25Speaker 4: He was like the booker of MWWC. He's like we
- 10:27Speaker 4: had this like big talk and he wanted me to
- 10:29Speaker 4: like turn on Brian and like go for like the
- 10:31Speaker 4: interstate title. I was like, no, like I don't want
- 10:34Speaker 4: to be the interstate champion. I want to I know
- 10:37Speaker 4: that our meal ticket is being a team and getting
- 10:40Speaker 4: noticed in these other places. I think this is like
- 10:42Speaker 4: there was a discrepancy, like we were like the NYWC
- 10:44Speaker 4: Tag team champions and they didn't want us losing in
- 10:47Speaker 4: Jersey All Pro and I'm thinking, like what the fuck?
- 10:49Speaker 4: Even then, I knew this was so stupid. And then
- 10:52Speaker 4: that's where it's like, well, you should turn on them,
- 10:53Speaker 4: you should you know, you should be your singles guy here.
- 10:55Speaker 4: I'm like, I don't want to be the singles guy here.
- 10:57Speaker 4: I never want to be the interstate champion. I never
- 11:00Speaker 4: want to be the world champion, the NYWC World champion, whatever.
- 11:03Speaker 4: I want to get out of here. And I think
- 11:04Speaker 4: that was like a big like where people think, well
- 11:09Speaker 4: not then there was like a weird like that I changed.
- 11:11Speaker 4: I forget the quote. Remember there was like a weird
- 11:13Speaker 4: quote like that I changed or something like that. Because
- 11:15Speaker 4: like I just didn't want to just be the n
- 11:17Speaker 4: YWC guy, Like, that's not why I got into the wrestling.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Well, I I'm finding this shocking, not that you always
- 11:26Speaker 1: wanted to be in the WB, but I'm finding it
- 11:29Speaker 1: at that you a belt that Borrowski did not want
- 11:32Speaker 1: to win titles in and.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Win all the titles because I knew what would.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I know what you mean, But I'm I'm having a
- 11:40Speaker 1: hard time that it's coming from. I just wouldn't have
- 11:44Speaker 1: guessed them.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Because what was wester what was going to be our
- 11:48Speaker 4: in especially then when it was like a big man business,
- 11:53Speaker 4: was that we were going to be like the team
- 11:54Speaker 4: who broke in. That's and that's how we were gonna
- 11:57Speaker 4: get booked. That's how we're gonna get noticed. We weren't.
- 11:59Speaker 4: We talked about this on an early your main pot EUPI,
- 12:00Speaker 4: so we weren't doing all these the crazy moves and
- 12:02Speaker 4: like oh, so, like I knew we were gonna get
- 12:05Speaker 4: noticed as like a tag team, So I wouldn't like
- 12:08Speaker 4: chop the legs off just to have like this singles
- 12:11Speaker 4: running Deer Park, New York.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's very interesting and probably one of
- 12:17Speaker 1: the reasons why you made it because you recognize that
- 12:21Speaker 1: and you know that that's kind of stuff that people
- 12:23Speaker 1: don't really do or or realize, and that actually reminds
- 12:27Speaker 1: me a lot of MJFF.
- 12:30Speaker 5: No, it is MJF alive that he's never created approachange.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Yeah, he hates that, but yeah, he probably if he
- 12:37Speaker 1: didn't like move away to push his career forward, he
- 12:41Speaker 1: would have.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Been So he moved in with like Sammy Callen moved
- 12:45Speaker 3: out like to Ohio for a while.
- 12:46Speaker 6: So because like he moved to the Midwest so that
- 12:48Speaker 6: he could get yeah, like he could hit these indies
- 12:53Speaker 6: and like he was almost like wrestling like five days
- 12:54Speaker 6: a week because he could be able to drive to
- 12:56Speaker 6: all these different spots.
- 12:57Speaker 1: And really, when you think back on it, that's how
- 12:59Speaker 1: he was noticed by Cody in the first place doing
- 13:01Speaker 1: those shows.
- 13:02Speaker 4: So yeah, interesting.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Anyway, interesting Broskie, Uh, Victor Laiva, what was one of
- 13:10Speaker 1: the most surprising things you learned about wrestling on and DS.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Sean Heat come back?
- 13:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd say it's more of that stuff because like
- 13:19Speaker 3: I was such a fan of indie wrestling, Like once
- 13:22Speaker 3: I discovered indie wrestling, I was like so in love
- 13:24Speaker 3: with it like I figured out what like USA Pro was,
- 13:27Speaker 3: and I would just go to the shows, and like
- 13:28Speaker 3: I look forward to that more than like that would
- 13:31Speaker 3: be television and stuff. I was so like, cause you're
- 13:33Speaker 3: just it's so even like you know, you guys canna
- 13:36Speaker 3: test it like when your friends and family come to
- 13:38Speaker 3: see you. It's so like intimate. You know, It's like
- 13:41Speaker 3: it's like so close to everything. It's just something about it.
- 13:44Speaker 3: I just freaking. I just felt like head first in
- 13:47Speaker 3: love with like indie pro wrestling, and then once I
- 13:50Speaker 3: discovered it, so like a lot of things didn't shock
- 13:52Speaker 3: me because I was already like I befriended this guy,
- 13:55Speaker 3: Sean the Mick, who wrote this like a newsletter for
- 13:59Speaker 3: the he was called the Decorations of Independence the d I,
- 14:03Speaker 3: which which got like a little notoriety and buzz at
- 14:05Speaker 3: the time and stuff. But basically like every weekend while
- 14:08Speaker 3: I was training, I would hop in the car with
- 14:10Speaker 3: him and go to like whatever cool Northeast Indie and
- 14:14Speaker 3: go for free meet everybody. All I really had to
- 14:17Speaker 3: do was like I'd have to like kind of run
- 14:19Speaker 3: a table and try to sell these newsletters and stuff.
- 14:21Speaker 5: But it was like very minimal you know, work and
- 14:24Speaker 5: he would report on.
- 14:25Speaker 3: The show and write a report and like I met
- 14:26Speaker 3: so much, like that's how I first met Striker and
- 14:28Speaker 3: pop it on all these guys that you know to
- 14:30Speaker 3: this day that like you know, because I was just
- 14:33Speaker 3: like they're meeting them and literally just being a fanboy
- 14:36Speaker 3: and like a sponge, you know, like I wanted to
- 14:38Speaker 3: like be these guys so bad, so I was asking
- 14:40Speaker 3: questions and so nothing really like shocked me, really hot
- 14:45Speaker 3: because I was so excited about it.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Hot stuff I loved.
- 14:48Speaker 4: I loved hot. I love hot stuff. I thought, like
- 14:53Speaker 4: I guess it was shocking to me. Like I never
- 15:00Speaker 4: liked indie wrestling. I never I knew about it for
- 15:02Speaker 4: my magazines, but I never went to indie shows. Like
- 15:05Speaker 4: I went to one n YWC show just beside them, yes,
- 15:09Speaker 4: just to size up Dan Barry, Johnny Ova, to be like,
- 15:11Speaker 4: all right, these are the guys.
- 15:13Speaker 5: Can I compee?
- 15:14Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, I got this because those were like
- 15:16Speaker 4: the guys from MWC, Johnny Ova and Dan Barry. Dan
- 15:19Speaker 4: Barry is still super talented, one of my good friends.
- 15:22Speaker 5: That he's so talented.
- 15:24Speaker 4: But I guess, like something that shocked me. I guess
- 15:27Speaker 4: it's almost like in retrospect is like you know, I
- 15:31Speaker 4: think Mikey Whipwreck realized, uh, like who really wanted and
- 15:36Speaker 4: stuff like that. So you know, after practice, like I
- 15:38Speaker 4: would go out with him to like the diner and
- 15:40Speaker 4: stuff like that, like sometimes like just us and like
- 15:42Speaker 4: at the time, I just thought like we were getting
- 15:43Speaker 4: something to eat, and it's like years later I realized,
- 15:46Speaker 4: oh no, like he was like instilling me like respect
- 15:49Speaker 4: for the business and teaching me things that like are
- 15:51Speaker 4: like invaluable lessons like who they fuck cares about a
- 15:53Speaker 4: hammer lock?
- 15:53Speaker 3: Or how you learn more stuff at the really tuesdays
- 15:56Speaker 3: across the street than we did.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Like I didn't realize that. It was like a shocking
- 15:59Speaker 4: like it was like aha moment, like after the fact.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Yeah, students always uh they you can always tell who
- 16:09Speaker 1: wants it? Does that makes any sense?
- 16:13Speaker 5: I sized people up the second they walk into the
- 16:15Speaker 5: creator bro.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes you very sometimes you are wrong, but.
- 16:19Speaker 3: Very rarely wrong, and there's only like a handful of uh.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Stang is probably like the number one. When I Stang's
- 16:27Speaker 3: doing his first practice, I'm like, I'm never gonna see
- 16:28Speaker 3: this kid again. But he's like Stang's Actually.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I felt the same way. I remember thinking right right
- 16:34Speaker 1: after he started, there was an article for CAP that
- 16:37Speaker 1: came out in one of the papers, and he was
- 16:39Speaker 1: front and center in the main picture in his gross
- 16:43Speaker 1: Dean Ambrose shirt that was like brown.
- 16:46Speaker 3: You know that, like when Dean Ambrose first left the
- 16:48Speaker 3: shield near that white merch shirt. Stang with that every day,
- 16:52Speaker 3: but he wore so much it was like yellow.
- 16:54Speaker 5: Like brown.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Gross. Brian had to say, like, you're not at.
- 16:57Speaker 3: I said, look, bro, this shirt is banded nothing Againsteen Ambrose.
- 17:01Speaker 3: I love him, but this is fucking gross. Man, Like,
- 17:03Speaker 3: stop wearing the shirt to practice. Yeah, I've been very
- 17:07Speaker 3: rarely wrong.
- 17:07Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 17:08Speaker 3: There's just something about it, like it's weird. It's like, uh,
- 17:12Speaker 3: either you know you don't or like, especially this modern day,
- 17:15Speaker 3: like there's so much at your disposal to like learn
- 17:17Speaker 3: about the business, like through the Internet and books and
- 17:20Speaker 3: all this stuff. So like when someone comes in like uh.
- 17:24Speaker 5: It was like good rigs are trampoline right, and you're just.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Like, holy shit, how do you not like you didn't
- 17:29Speaker 3: do anything before you came here?
- 17:30Speaker 5: Like fuck, yeah, it's it's crazy all right.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Uh. Joe Carr Joe Mez. What was Brian's favorite article
- 17:38Speaker 1: he wrote while working for the d OI. What a
- 17:40Speaker 1: piece of shit that Jay Silberberg wrote? Mine was his
- 17:43Speaker 1: spotlight on Chris Hero.
- 17:45Speaker 3: That's that exists and I think you can google that.
- 17:47Speaker 3: I interviewed Chris here was like one of my good friends.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Now I just like cold emailed him because he was
- 17:52Speaker 3: like this hot indie wrestler in two thousand and three
- 17:55Speaker 3: and like.
- 17:56Speaker 5: Oh my god, and I interviewed him.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Wow, there, that's it's starting the biz. Leon Marcello, when
- 18:03Speaker 1: do you guys, when do you know that a gimmick
- 18:07Speaker 1: is even or even a look isn't working? But that said,
- 18:12Speaker 1: is it difficult not to stop and try something new?
- 18:15Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 18:15Speaker 5: That's that's that's a that's a situation.
- 18:18Speaker 3: By situation, I mean, we had a thing early in
- 18:19Speaker 3: our career where we were like white meat babyfaces and
- 18:23Speaker 3: people could not care less, And then we flipped it
- 18:27Speaker 3: into like basically the same but like arrogant heels. But
- 18:32Speaker 3: we didn't really have to change much because we were
- 18:34Speaker 3: already like unlikable and it was Music's made it made.
- 18:39Speaker 4: A world of You didn't switch our move set.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Yeah, we just embraced you just kind of embraced it,
- 18:44Speaker 3: and it made a huge It was like a huge leap.
- 18:47Speaker 3: It was like the biggest leap we had in the
- 18:49Speaker 3: short time we were on the indies, and that in
- 18:51Speaker 3: that early run.
- 18:52Speaker 1: You know what about like Brian as a teacher, it's
- 18:57Speaker 1: you've told people like you got you got to stop,
- 19:00Speaker 1: you gotta this is time to move on with this
- 19:03Speaker 1: thing or something. Yeah, and we talked about the Phil
- 19:05Speaker 1: Cardigan chain.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Phil Cardigan's like example a million right.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I never thought like he would do this character
- 19:13Speaker 3: of the grammar cop, which basically built around a whole
- 19:16Speaker 3: match of where he'd wear like Big boss Man in
- 19:18Speaker 3: the Corporation outfit, but he's like one third the size
- 19:22Speaker 3: of Big boss Man. And then he would all his
- 19:25Speaker 3: matches build around where he'd give a citation for bad grammar,
- 19:30Speaker 3: like he pull out this like like a that's just
- 19:32Speaker 3: two indies.
- 19:33Speaker 1: It's rual because you also need to use words, which like.
- 19:36Speaker 5: It doesn't work.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Yeah, he would if he had promos about it, he'd
- 19:39Speaker 3: always botch like he had bad grammar, so like it
- 19:42Speaker 3: was just like it just didn't it was bad. And
- 19:44Speaker 3: then like once you see that, like once or twice
- 19:46Speaker 3: like where do you go from there? And that's all
- 19:48Speaker 3: he was doing for years, and then like he dresses
- 19:51Speaker 3: Dwight Shrewt for the Halloween Show and was like ten
- 19:55Speaker 3: thousand times more entertaining. And then I just flat out
- 19:57Speaker 3: told him, like a taper view, I said, look, I
- 19:59Speaker 3: don't know, I think there's something I said. I'd rather
- 20:02Speaker 3: see you wrestless Dwight truth than what you've been doing, right,
- 20:04Speaker 3: And then Philip Gardian is like unreal now the best.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like it's.
- 20:11Speaker 3: An unbelievable night and day scenario. I think it's harder.
- 20:17Speaker 3: I think as a as a coach, this is like
- 20:19Speaker 3: getting really away from the question. It's my responsibility to
- 20:22Speaker 3: be honest and give those opinions, because sometimes it's hard
- 20:24Speaker 3: to see that in yourself, you know, or you don't
- 20:27Speaker 3: want to like admit that to yourself.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Sometimes, you know, here's here's another great one age just
- 20:34Speaker 1: doing white me babyface nothing. And then he just reinvents
- 20:39Speaker 1: himself as this weird retro dude with a mustache.
- 20:42Speaker 5: And he texts me about it. Did I ever tell
- 20:44Speaker 5: you this?
- 20:45Speaker 1: I don't think, So, he texts.
- 20:47Speaker 5: Me before he turned into that guy, and said, what
- 20:50Speaker 5: do you think?
- 20:51Speaker 3: And now this is like, this is obviously in retrospect,
- 20:53Speaker 3: so now we know what this guy is. But at
- 20:55Speaker 3: the time, I'm like, to be honest with you, dude,
- 20:57Speaker 3: I said, I'd rather book this guy you're described, I
- 21:00Speaker 3: think to me than who you.
- 21:01Speaker 5: Are now, because I literally are just a dude in
- 21:03Speaker 5: trunks and he's at Northeast guy. I didn't know that. Yeah,
- 21:05Speaker 5: he's from Boston area.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Good dude. All right, Brandon Kawfield, how long exactly was
- 21:12Speaker 1: your indie run and did you expect it to end
- 21:14Speaker 1: so soon?
- 21:15Speaker 5: Good question. Your first match is April oh four.
- 21:20Speaker 4: It's like April marchor April four, a big Battle Royal
- 21:23Speaker 4: where they thought there was like some sort of like
- 21:26Speaker 4: mix up where they thought I sold all these tickets,
- 21:29Speaker 4: but I only sold the ticket to my dad, So
- 21:31Speaker 4: I got like all the way to like the finals
- 21:33Speaker 4: of this Battle Royal.
- 21:34Speaker 5: How do they mess that up? I don't know.
- 21:37Speaker 4: I don't know what I was.
- 21:40Speaker 3: I came down from school to help on that show
- 21:42Speaker 3: and the main events Al Snow Martin Jet.
- 21:44Speaker 4: And they're just doing all the finishers, like knocking around
- 21:46Speaker 4: the horn.
- 21:46Speaker 5: I think it's still a good match. Yeah.
- 21:48Speaker 4: So like our first thing, or my first thing, which
- 21:52Speaker 4: Brian joined eventually, was called the rat Pack, and we
- 21:54Speaker 4: were like the the minions of this guy like Mayhem,
- 21:57Speaker 4: and I never quite understood what we were. We wore
- 21:59Speaker 4: like dress shirts and dress pants. I don't know if
- 22:01Speaker 4: we were like clubbers or what.
- 22:02Speaker 5: Like.
- 22:02Speaker 4: I remember like making my debut and like I was
- 22:05Speaker 4: so nervous, like, oh, how do I slide in the
- 22:07Speaker 4: ring like from a runner?
- 22:09Speaker 5: You know.
- 22:10Speaker 4: What happened was NYWC had closed its doors, the school,
- 22:13Speaker 4: but it was still running shows. So they took a
- 22:15Speaker 4: bunch of us and threw us as this rat pack.
- 22:19Speaker 4: So like that was our way of getting out the shows.
- 22:20Speaker 4: But we weren't like finished training. And then like Brian
- 22:23Speaker 4: eventually joins and and like the group kind of changes,
- 22:27Speaker 4: like who the first much July of four and like
- 22:30Speaker 4: we kind of like we get away from Mayhem, I think,
- 22:34Speaker 4: and we kind of like start wearing different colored shirts
- 22:35Speaker 4: and we kind of show more personality and stuff like that.
- 22:38Speaker 4: And then like NYWC the school reopened and like Mikey
- 22:42Speaker 4: Whitbrick was the head trainer and then there was like
- 22:45Speaker 4: a new batch of students. But I was now in
- 22:47Speaker 4: like the advanced class, but I never really was like
- 22:52Speaker 4: in an advance you know what I'm saying. So now
- 22:53Speaker 4: I'm like, now I don't go to like the beginning classes,
- 22:56Speaker 4: and I'm just in like the advanced cus of Mikey
- 22:58Speaker 4: like fine tunes things you do like tag ins or whatever.
- 23:01Speaker 4: So it's kind of like weird, you know. But I
- 23:03Speaker 4: wasn't gonna say it because I didn't want to go
- 23:05Speaker 4: do this beginning shit, you know. And then one day
- 23:09Speaker 4: it was just decided, like, you know, I'm fast forward
- 23:12Speaker 4: in like six months, but it's like, oh, like I
- 23:14Speaker 4: think it was pretty apparent and I don't want to
- 23:17Speaker 4: sound competent that we were the two that you know,
- 23:20Speaker 4: shined in that group. And one day it was just decided, oh,
- 23:24Speaker 4: you guys are a tag team this show as baby faces.
- 23:27Speaker 3: You're not remember anymore that my first match is a
- 23:30Speaker 3: Battle Royal and Mega eliminates us, and we had like
- 23:32Speaker 3: a double clothes line over the top, and I remember
- 23:34Speaker 3: thinking like, if we just.
- 23:35Speaker 5: Could do this bump nice and it did it work?
- 23:38Speaker 3: Like Everyone's like, well they took that bump as dumb
- 23:40Speaker 3: as that sounds like, we took this over the top
- 23:42Speaker 3: double clothes line bump and it was like really nice,
- 23:44Speaker 3: like in sync, and they were like all those kids
- 23:46Speaker 3: are not bad, Like is.
- 23:47Speaker 4: That the much where you're like your chapstick comes out
- 23:49Speaker 4: or that another one?
- 23:49Speaker 5: That's it? I think I'm pretty sure your chapstick.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Wait, so how long his quick? How long was your
- 23:56Speaker 1: indie run? Did you think it would end so quickly?
- 23:58Speaker 5: Oh? Sorry? So anyway, so Broski's sorry.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Two thousand and four, early April oh four.
- 24:04Speaker 5: I'm July o four. We got signed February oh six.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Last last match is like April o.
- 24:09Speaker 5: Six, that's true. We got to do a couple of bookings.
- 24:12Speaker 1: So yeah, so two years for Broski.
- 24:14Speaker 5: In the year and a half for me.
- 24:15Speaker 4: And I told myself when I first started wrestling, so
- 24:19Speaker 4: I was like eighteen at the time, I told himself,
- 24:21Speaker 4: all right, I'll give it till i'm thirty.
- 24:23Speaker 5: To make it a ww. It was like that back then.
- 24:25Speaker 5: It's crazy now like oh yeah, I mean think about
- 24:28Speaker 5: that a lot.
- 24:29Speaker 3: I'm like, I literally feel like I'm in the prime
- 24:31Speaker 3: of my career right now, like I've never been better
- 24:33Speaker 3: and I'm thirty five. But when I started, I'm like,
- 24:35Speaker 3: what am I gonna do at thirty, I'm gonna have
- 24:37Speaker 3: to find something else to do, transition to a manager
- 24:40Speaker 3: or something.
- 24:40Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 24:41Speaker 4: I remember twenty eight and I think I forget where
- 24:43Speaker 4: I saw it. But this year's Royal Rumble was the
- 24:46Speaker 4: oldest Royal.
- 24:46Speaker 5: Was crazy about the ages.
- 24:49Speaker 4: It's pretty wild.
- 24:50Speaker 3: I think guys like like He'll probably hate us saying this,
- 24:53Speaker 3: but like Bobby Rude and like AJ, I think they've
- 24:55Speaker 3: really helped change that.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Yeah, because they can go yeah and they look phenomenal.
- 25:00Speaker 5: That's what I'm saying. Like, as long as like whatever.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Across the board. Though, Hey, we just watched Tom Brady
- 25:04Speaker 1: win Super Bowl. You know what I'm saying.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Yeah, true pe take care of yourself and you know
- 25:09Speaker 3: this guy's Jericho has been like a real inspiration for me.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Man Dustin Roads, Yeah, still going.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Dustin just keeps getting healthier. Uh, Michael Leavelle, When veteran
- 25:18Speaker 1: talent was brought in for shows, did you find most
- 25:23Speaker 1: we're trying to teach the new generation or just there
- 25:26Speaker 1: for a pay day?
- 25:27Speaker 5: Hell? No too, I guess yeahs what it is. I mean.
- 25:30Speaker 3: The cool thing was that obviously Mikey would bring in
- 25:33Speaker 3: like his buddies, yeah, and were people he liked to
- 25:36Speaker 3: be around, because I'm sure the payday was a little
- 25:39Speaker 3: brother priced and shit like that. But then he'd usually
- 25:42Speaker 3: set up like seminars and stuff. So I remember, like
- 25:44Speaker 3: Joey Mercury, he was in ov W unsigned but like
- 25:49Speaker 3: pitching that eminem gimmick to where he eventually got signed,
- 25:52Speaker 3: so he it would be cool to like he'd come
- 25:54Speaker 3: and it would feel like we were getting this like
- 25:57Speaker 3: current ww knowledge, you know, straight to us.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Like that was always great.
- 26:01Speaker 3: I remember Mondo came back and did Mike Bondo would
- 26:03Speaker 3: do that from time to time, and then Jerry Lynn
- 26:05Speaker 3: came into the show, and then a seminar a couple
- 26:08Speaker 3: of times, like always like that, there's a Chris Daniels.
- 26:12Speaker 4: I feel like Marty Jeannetti did one too. Maybe he didn't.
- 26:14Speaker 5: Martin Jeannetti.
- 26:15Speaker 3: I know for a fact we had this show and
- 26:17Speaker 3: he was on it and I had never met him,
- 26:19Speaker 3: and I was really excited. And then he came in
- 26:23Speaker 3: like we're setting up for the show and there's a
- 26:26Speaker 3: huge storm, snowstorm, and I.
- 26:29Speaker 5: Remember during the day like we're like, oh, this doesn't
- 26:31Speaker 5: look like it's gonna happen.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I was like, it is Martin Jeanetti here, and someone's like, oh, yeah,
- 26:34Speaker 3: he's been here and he was sleeping in like a
- 26:36Speaker 3: custodian closet and you can see his like legs sticking
- 26:39Speaker 3: out of it and he was passed out in this
- 26:41Speaker 3: custodian closet. I'm like, oh shit, Marty Janet, I love
- 26:43Speaker 3: to you know, beat Mary Janet. And the show when
- 26:45Speaker 3: up getting canceled and we all had to like do it.
- 26:47Speaker 3: We didn't even make it home. Dan Barry took it
- 26:48Speaker 3: to like his cousin's house.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Can you tell me?
- 26:50Speaker 5: So?
- 26:50Speaker 4: I don't remember this, but I don't know. If I
- 26:52Speaker 4: think I might, I might have went home.
- 26:54Speaker 5: Who is I with?
- 26:55Speaker 1: Then Trent Dad went and bought a plow and bro.
- 26:59Speaker 4: This was like an ficcause that was supposed to be
- 27:02Speaker 4: the Psycho Circus where we have the blindfold match. It
- 27:04Speaker 4: gets canceled.
- 27:05Speaker 5: I think you're right, Yeah, that's cool, that's fun, And
- 27:07Speaker 5: we don't even make it all myself to some random
- 27:09Speaker 5: house and stuff.
- 27:10Speaker 4: We do end up having the Psycho Circus five way
- 27:12Speaker 4: blindfold match is.
- 27:14Speaker 5: Really dumb concept.
- 27:15Speaker 4: It was actually awesome. I loved it.
- 27:16Speaker 5: It's probably fine for.
- 27:18Speaker 1: What it is to be honestly, but Sunil one eight seven,
- 27:22Speaker 1: this should be good. What was it like working a
- 27:24Speaker 1: match with the future star like Sunial one A seven
- 27:27Speaker 1: skip Josh Weimer. What was the hardest part about learning
- 27:31Speaker 1: how to put together a match? Psychology bro Broski said.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but like I don't know, like one day
- 27:40Speaker 3: that just like clicked for me, and I don't even
- 27:41Speaker 3: think it was like in a way it was saying,
- 27:44Speaker 3: it was like more like a deep South.
- 27:45Speaker 4: This is gonna sound really fucking weird, but I keep
- 27:48Speaker 4: bringing up my backyard days like I would have like
- 27:50Speaker 4: one very proud I would have like one hour iron
- 27:54Speaker 4: Man matches like for fun with my brother in the backyard,
- 27:56Speaker 4: like not even think about it. But then when someone
- 27:58Speaker 4: told me what the word blow up up met, I
- 28:01Speaker 4: was like so afraid of it that I I've since
- 28:04Speaker 4: blown up every single match I've ever had in my.
- 28:07Speaker 5: Head, grown up in every match, but.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Every single match there's like I don't care if it's
- 28:14Speaker 4: ten minutes, two minutes, an hour. I've never had an
- 28:17Speaker 4: hour match. But you know, it's just a mental thing,
- 28:21Speaker 4: like because of me it knowing what the term is,
- 28:26Speaker 4: and it's never like I'm I shouldn't say never. There's
- 28:28Speaker 4: a couple times where I feel in the match. Usually
- 28:30Speaker 4: it's like after the match, I feel like I'm gonna die,
- 28:32Speaker 4: Like I just said that match with like uh, he's
- 28:34Speaker 4: also in the paper who felt fine during the match
- 28:36Speaker 4: three and a half minutes after the match, like for
- 28:39Speaker 4: an hour and a half, my heart would stop.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Well that's I mean, it's not necessarily whether or not
- 28:45Speaker 1: you blow up, because you will, but it's it's how
- 28:48Speaker 1: quick you can get that breath back. That's why you
- 28:51Speaker 1: like it do it.
- 28:52Speaker 5: I've always had a good win like wrestling. But the
- 28:55Speaker 5: other thing is I have to be in the ring
- 28:56Speaker 5: once a week. If I don't got that, then I
- 28:58Speaker 5: feel like I'm off. So that's obviously created bros. Plays
- 29:01Speaker 5: a big factor into that one.
- 29:02Speaker 4: It's also different now with like the whole World's ever
- 29:05Speaker 4: but with the WWE live event schedule. Oh, the Friday
- 29:08Speaker 4: was a little you know, a little winded, Saturday a
- 29:10Speaker 4: little better. Sundays that was the best match, and then
- 29:12Speaker 4: you got Monday.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Yeah, and there was a cert like some points, like
- 29:15Speaker 3: I remember we used to do like twenty something minutes
- 29:17Speaker 3: with a fit and whoever.
- 29:18Speaker 5: Every night and I.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Could like do like sleep like not not even like
- 29:22Speaker 3: breathing heavy, like it was crazy because we're just doing
- 29:24Speaker 3: it so much.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Scott Yeager, each can you each name one guy or
- 29:29Speaker 1: gal you worked with on the indies that you swore
- 29:32Speaker 1: would make it big but never did.
- 29:34Speaker 4: I can have a couple.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Well, first off, everyone points why didn't they make well?
- 29:40Speaker 5: For everyone?
- 29:40Speaker 3: To me, like because I was such a fanboy, was
- 29:43Speaker 3: like I thought, there like the biggest stars, you know,
- 29:46Speaker 3: like I said all the time, like the Boogie Knights,
- 29:47Speaker 3: like who I stole the one? And still it was
- 29:50Speaker 3: like an homage their name, like they were like the
- 29:52Speaker 3: USA Pro Tag Team champions, this guy, these guys Mike
- 29:55Speaker 3: Tobin and Danny Drake, and like I was like a
- 29:58Speaker 3: sophomore in high school, and I thought, like, and these
- 30:00Speaker 3: guys probably drives.
- 30:02Speaker 5: The indie guys Like I didn't.
- 30:03Speaker 3: I didn't know, like you know, wrestling's definitely their only job,
- 30:07Speaker 3: which is like so far from the truth, you know,
- 30:08Speaker 3: I just had no clue. Everyone was such an epic
- 30:11Speaker 3: star to me, so I guess to answer the real
- 30:15Speaker 3: question once we got involved and I realized that that
- 30:18Speaker 3: was not the case.
- 30:20Speaker 1: A lot of the great guys that you guys worked
- 30:22Speaker 1: with earlier made it.
- 30:24Speaker 3: I think the number one, Yeah, I know, the number
- 30:27Speaker 3: one has to be Mason, right, for sure, he was
- 30:29Speaker 3: gonna make it.
- 30:30Speaker 4: And like there's some weird like I don't know exactly
- 30:33Speaker 4: what happened where he was supposed to get signed when
- 30:35Speaker 4: we did. But the rumor has it like he had
- 30:37Speaker 4: already moved down to OBW and like paid to train
- 30:42Speaker 4: and like, oh, he's already there, why would we pay
- 30:44Speaker 4: him he's already there and didn't get signed. I mean
- 30:49Speaker 4: that's the rumor who did go.
- 30:50Speaker 3: But he was like way bigger than everyone and jacked
- 30:54Speaker 3: and he could talk, he could.
- 30:55Speaker 4: Teacher, smart intelligence, marketed himself.
- 30:58Speaker 5: You know, he's had cool cage. I don't know. We
- 31:01Speaker 5: were just like, oh, this guy's definitely gonna make it.
- 31:04Speaker 3: He was like the one of our group where we're like, yeah,
- 31:07Speaker 3: we were actually like always in his like shadow.
- 31:09Speaker 5: Really right? Yeah?
- 31:10Speaker 1: Oh wow, Earring mulligan, did you did either of you
- 31:15Speaker 1: ever have a moment on the indies when you thought
- 31:17Speaker 1: you were not going to make it as a pro wrestler.
- 31:22Speaker 4: I think maybe, like when I was training, there was
- 31:24Speaker 4: some doubt, like I said before, when like like mentally,
- 31:27Speaker 4: I was like, what's going on here? We're like, am
- 31:29Speaker 4: I supposed to even want to be here? Like maybe
- 31:31Speaker 4: a couple of doubts there, but once I started going
- 31:34Speaker 4: like absolutely no way, no doubt in my mind.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Brian just says, no, no, no way.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Earring Mulligan again, What was your biggest mark out moment
- 31:46Speaker 1: on the Indies?
- 31:49Speaker 4: I mean I can't wrestling, maybe wrestling doing and Roadkill.
- 31:55Speaker 3: Yeah, wrestling doing and Roko was huge a meeting at
- 31:57Speaker 3: the time, Like I was this mega see him punk
- 32:00Speaker 3: like super fan. So like when I met him for
- 32:03Speaker 3: the first time and he actually was kind of addicted
- 32:05Speaker 3: to me, I would joke around with him about that story.
- 32:08Speaker 5: Then I don't know, well, now he's really addicted to me.
- 32:10Speaker 3: But uh then, you know, he like sized me up.
- 32:14Speaker 3: I just told him that I just started training and stuff.
- 32:16Speaker 3: He's like, he said something like, I guess you're big enough,
- 32:19Speaker 3: you know, And I'm like the same height anyway. But
- 32:24Speaker 3: I don't know, just meeting like he he was like
- 32:26Speaker 3: the mecca pro wrestling like on the Indies at that
- 32:29Speaker 3: but you know what I mean, like the biggest guy.
- 32:31Speaker 4: So like I don't know when when we finally split
- 32:34Speaker 4: up in that rap pack and made that tag team match.
- 32:36Speaker 4: It was such a weird night because it wasn't just
- 32:39Speaker 4: like a tag team match, like we had all of
- 32:41Speaker 4: a sudden, we come out where Babyfaces, we have a
- 32:43Speaker 4: mystery partner. It's Tommy Dreamer.
- 32:45Speaker 5: Oh shit, that was crazy.
- 32:47Speaker 4: And then like just like Nick Foley who lives along
- 32:50Speaker 4: just so happened to come to the show and like
- 32:51Speaker 4: get a surprise running so there's like a glory like
- 32:54Speaker 4: a money shot at the end, Me, Brian, Tamy, GB
- 32:56Speaker 4: and Foley and like, what what is this?
- 32:58Speaker 5: Yeah, hold it all, hands raised in the air.
- 33:02Speaker 1: That's awesome. Yeah, bonus points of that. I just thought
- 33:05Speaker 1: of this. Brian booked me early on and create a
- 33:08Speaker 1: pro in a match where I tagged with Striker, and
- 33:11Speaker 1: I remember having this thought that like, this is it,
- 33:14Speaker 1: this is the this is the highest, this is the
- 33:16Speaker 1: best thing I'm ever going to do in pro wrestling,
- 33:17Speaker 1: And I'm so happy.
- 33:19Speaker 4: And then you became the host that's ed, the host
- 33:23Speaker 4: of Off the Hot Broke and producer of the major
- 33:26Speaker 4: rest of your podcasts.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Brandon Mayhew, how did each of you go about developing
- 33:31Speaker 1: your early move set?
- 33:33Speaker 4: Oh my god, fuck move set.
- 33:36Speaker 5: Brosky had it already from the backyarding right.
- 33:39Speaker 3: That was That was one thing I was very uncomfortable with,
- 33:42Speaker 3: Like when you're green and you don't know anything.
- 33:45Speaker 5: It was like asking someone like, hey, can I try
- 33:47Speaker 5: this on you?
- 33:48Speaker 3: I was very like, it took me a long time
- 33:50Speaker 3: to be that guy because I just felt bad h
- 33:53Speaker 3: and unsure of stuff, you know, so like just to
- 33:56Speaker 3: just grab some random dude and try some dangerous ass
- 33:58Speaker 3: thing that you know, so that that's something I wasn't
- 34:03Speaker 3: good at.
- 34:03Speaker 4: This might shock a lot of people. So obviously, like
- 34:06Speaker 4: I knew how to do all these moves, and I
- 34:08Speaker 4: would like askay show me to do a tiger driver,
- 34:10Speaker 4: even though I knew how to do it. But what
- 34:14Speaker 4: I liked about NYWC and the the unorganization is that
- 34:17Speaker 4: every day you would get a different trainer. So whether
- 34:20Speaker 4: it be like Dan Barry showing you like some cool
- 34:22Speaker 4: like stuff like cool wrestling stuff or Crusher, do you
- 34:24Speaker 4: can teach you some weird chain or like Spider teaching
- 34:27Speaker 4: you like four fifties or whatever. There there there was
- 34:30Speaker 4: one day where it was like, all right, let's get
- 34:32Speaker 4: My name was Bret Matthews, let's let's like you know,
- 34:34Speaker 4: practice is an ending until I can do a mood salt.
- 34:37Speaker 4: So it was first like you you know, I would
- 34:38Speaker 4: give you my foot and you would like long story short.
- 34:42Speaker 4: I eventually like started doing like shooting star presses. It's like,
- 34:45Speaker 4: for like two weeks I could do mood salts shooting
- 34:47Speaker 4: star presses. It was insane, like even at home. I
- 34:49Speaker 4: was like perfecting them at home, doing shooting star presses
- 34:52Speaker 4: mood salt's like no fear. And then I went to
- 34:55Speaker 4: do a shooting star press like and like I don't
- 34:58Speaker 4: know if I puss it out, didn't make it and
- 34:59Speaker 4: like landed like kind of like on my head, and
- 35:01Speaker 4: like since then I can't do a backflip produce suppress
- 35:04Speaker 4: can't go backwards. I think in Deep South we like
- 35:07Speaker 4: had it, like Bill made us do backflip mood salts
- 35:10Speaker 4: one day and I finally got it again. But it
- 35:12Speaker 4: was like bam bam Bigelow style like ugly.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Yeah, oh my god, that's crazy, I can't do them.
- 35:16Speaker 5: Yeah, just a confusing to clarify.
- 35:19Speaker 3: So when we signed up to NYWC, there was like
- 35:23Speaker 3: basically chaos, like there was no rhyme or reason you
- 35:26Speaker 3: never knew it was going to be there. Who was
- 35:27Speaker 3: going to show you anything whatever? I mean, most of
- 35:30Speaker 3: the time, I guess you can count on Crusher Dugan,
- 35:31Speaker 3: who's like would show you like chain and that's about
- 35:35Speaker 3: it chain wrestling. And then like you said, like if
- 35:38Speaker 3: Spider had the key, like and people left, he'd be like,
- 35:40Speaker 3: oh I f this wink and he pull out the
- 35:41Speaker 3: crash bad and we would just do stuff like that,
- 35:43Speaker 3: you know.
- 35:43Speaker 5: What I mean, and then shit like that.
- 35:45Speaker 3: And then eventually they like lost that original garage building
- 35:49Speaker 3: and there was like no school, so that whole like
- 35:52Speaker 3: summer of like oh four, I don't remember you coming very.
- 35:56Speaker 5: Often, but me and Dan Barry would just drive. We
- 35:57Speaker 5: would drive to ACE.
- 35:58Speaker 3: I don't think I ever wont drive the ACE in
- 36:01Speaker 3: New Jersey just to get training in like once a
- 36:02Speaker 3: week and stuff. And it was really kind of sucked.
- 36:05Speaker 3: There's no no place to train, nothing to do. And
- 36:07Speaker 3: then finally they cut a deal with the Deer Park
- 36:10Speaker 3: Community Center where they keep the ring there and build it,
- 36:12Speaker 3: so like, oh.
- 36:13Speaker 4: That sucked every fuck.
- 36:15Speaker 3: So that Mikey came in made it like regimented head trainer,
- 36:20Speaker 3: real style practices, but you had to like come and
- 36:22Speaker 3: build a ring, take it down, take it and then I.
- 36:24Speaker 4: Think it was maybe it was up and the next
- 36:26Speaker 4: next day to.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Take it down, you know, do to practices take it
- 36:29Speaker 3: down the worst, so either you know, and then you're
- 36:33Speaker 3: probably building a ring and then training sucks and then
- 36:36Speaker 3: taking it you know, doing a whole practice and taking
- 36:38Speaker 3: it down sucks too.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Uh, Johnny JB. Did you have any favorite cities or
- 36:45Speaker 1: areas you like to perform at.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Well, considering we only went to like four places, Yeah,
- 36:51Speaker 4: I mean it was we finally got this break with
- 36:55Speaker 4: Jersey All Pro where we were doing like their internet show,
- 36:57Speaker 4: which was like way ahead of its time, by the way, and.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Then we had like this big opening match on like
- 37:03Speaker 3: a huge railway show with the Outcast Killers, and we
- 37:06Speaker 3: thought it was like this huge thing for us. That's
- 37:11Speaker 3: that's about it, besides all the deer parks. That's probably
- 37:13Speaker 3: the biggest show we ever did.
- 37:14Speaker 2: That.
- 37:15Speaker 3: On our way out, we did like a big cyberspace
- 37:17Speaker 3: show where we dropped the belts right for him, like
- 37:20Speaker 3: a conjoined cyberspace WC match.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Did you guys sell a lot of tickets? Like broke?
- 37:25Speaker 1: You strike me as somebody who was able to move tickets.
- 37:28Speaker 4: No, I never cared. I never did it. Really, I
- 37:30Speaker 4: would maybe like my parents and stuff.
- 37:32Speaker 5: I my parents, my Paul.
- 37:35Speaker 1: You know, you didn't have your backyard guys come.
- 37:39Speaker 4: My friends didn't like wrestling, and I wasn't gonna.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Like, huh our last show like we have like the
- 37:46Speaker 3: send off when we're signed.
- 37:48Speaker 5: There's a lot of people there for me. That's about it.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Tom Floyd, who was the first person to take you
- 37:54Speaker 1: under their wing. That didn't have to Dan.
- 37:57Speaker 4: Barry, Dan Barry, Mike, you would break even I'm a
- 38:00Speaker 4: Dreamer after.
- 38:01Speaker 1: That, Dan's the best. Joey Walker. Do you remember a
- 38:05Speaker 1: specific match that you guys had where afterwards you truly
- 38:08Speaker 1: felt like a professional wrestler in the sense of, oh, yeah,
- 38:10Speaker 1: we're doing this. Hi mean.
- 38:13Speaker 4: I think maybe that that match with Dreamer and like Foley,
- 38:16Speaker 4: where I'm like wow, and that Dreamer was in charge
- 38:19Speaker 4: of signing people at the time.
- 38:21Speaker 5: I felt that way. On the match you got knocked out,
- 38:25Speaker 5: but because I didn't realize you were knocked out. Oh yeah,
- 38:28Speaker 5: because like.
- 38:28Speaker 3: We like we basically we were these shitty baby faces.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Like I said, we had the tag titles and nobody
- 38:34Speaker 3: gave a fuck about us. It failed, we had to
- 38:36Speaker 3: drop them and then like we worked our way back
- 38:38Speaker 3: to them as these heel characters and like truly were
- 38:41Speaker 3: like a real part of the show, you know, So
- 38:43Speaker 3: it felt like vindicated. We had this like really good
- 38:46Speaker 3: match with Ken Scampi and Dan Barry and we went
- 38:47Speaker 3: him back. Broski's knocked out from missing a four fifty at,
- 38:51Speaker 3: but he's like completed the match and was there for everything.
- 38:53Speaker 3: So I had no idea, right, So, like I remember
- 38:55Speaker 3: being on the ramp having the belt and like we're
- 38:57Speaker 3: like chicken chit heels like backing up and like we
- 39:00Speaker 3: got the belts and like felt like okay, like some
- 39:03Speaker 3: vindication here, and then we go through the curtain and
- 39:05Speaker 3: brost a collapse and he's dead.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yeah tom uh Tom Floyd? What Slash who were some
- 39:14Speaker 1: of the coolest, most fun or weirdest people venues, angles
- 39:17Speaker 1: or spots. So it's weird.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Uh.
- 39:21Speaker 4: Mikey would bring me to like a couple of things
- 39:24Speaker 4: he brought me to, like the Hardcore Homecoming when I
- 39:26Speaker 4: stay in That was school. But something weird he brought
- 39:28Speaker 4: me to is this weird like Joel Gertner showing like
- 39:31Speaker 4: a barn Or like a bar and I was like
- 39:34Speaker 4: a referee and you know me with my shirts, I
- 39:36Speaker 4: want them nice and snug. This referee shot was like
- 39:39Speaker 4: a double xcel, like went past my elbows and I'm
- 39:41Speaker 4: so like, I'm so uncomfortable, like the special referee between
- 39:46Speaker 4: like rob Echoes, Robbie Robert Stone and like striker, but
- 39:50Speaker 4: Striker is muscles Marinara, He's got like an apron eyes
- 39:53Speaker 4: like this big Italian guy. What, oh my god? And
- 39:58Speaker 4: uh Joel Gurdon says he has the footage, but he's
- 40:01Speaker 4: been promising to said to me the past five years.
- 40:04Speaker 5: Good luck. Wow, I would love to see that for me.
- 40:08Speaker 3: And I'd say the blind the fiveway blindfold match. You know,
- 40:12Speaker 3: when does that happen? It's the stupidest thing of all time.
- 40:15Speaker 1: So many nowadays at least, there's so many crazy characters
- 40:19Speaker 1: like fans and stuff.
- 40:20Speaker 4: What about the grim Reefer?
- 40:22Speaker 5: The grim Reefer been here for years, bro, pretty sure.
- 40:24Speaker 1: He's still around, Billy, this is a great one. Did
- 40:28Speaker 1: you know that the promotion uh car Joe Mez worked
- 40:33Speaker 1: for referred to you guys as the sun Tan Twins
- 40:37Speaker 1: And do you now wish that that was your tag name.
- 40:40Speaker 4: I did not know that.
- 40:41Speaker 5: Joe's told me that in privacy Joe wrestled. Yeah, they'll shoes.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Okay, get off, Broki, I'm kidding.
- 40:49Speaker 4: We've been on shows with Joe shoes before.
- 40:51Speaker 5: I don't think so.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Now the Hip Swivel Champion, because he was.
- 40:54Speaker 5: Like ICW guy and we never worked.
- 40:55Speaker 4: How did I know him? We did you like something weird?
- 41:01Speaker 4: Jersey ones and like a little.
- 41:02Speaker 5: Shittye, It's possible, didn't we like work?
- 41:06Speaker 4: Mikey and somebody Mikey and Oscar.
- 41:08Speaker 5: At a Damien Dragon show?
- 41:10Speaker 4: Was it Damien Dragon?
- 41:11Speaker 5: Yeah? You could have been there.
- 41:12Speaker 4: I feel like he was there.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Tyler Conium, what was your most embarrassing moment when you
- 41:19Speaker 1: first started having matches in front of an audience?
- 41:22Speaker 5: Hmmm, that's a good one.
- 41:26Speaker 4: Sure there's something.
- 41:27Speaker 3: I feel like that Outcast Killer match has some like
- 41:29Speaker 3: you fucked up chance, so just like maybe just uncoordinated,
- 41:33Speaker 3: like white boy shit. We're trying to do like cool trendy,
- 41:37Speaker 3: like indie spots.
- 41:38Speaker 5: I don't know, I can't think of.
- 41:39Speaker 4: Anything off the top of my head.
- 41:40Speaker 1: That match with Doring and Roadkill that we watched on
- 41:42Speaker 1: Live five.
- 41:43Speaker 4: Something I bought something where.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Like you take a tackle, it doesn't exist, but like
- 41:48Speaker 3: the crowd didn't even react to it, so that doesn't
- 41:49Speaker 3: really count.
- 41:51Speaker 5: You know, you didn't get like eating a live for it.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Yeah, Joey Hudson, there's a good one for Matt. Did
- 41:58Speaker 1: you guys make and sell your own merch in the
- 42:01Speaker 1: on the Indies?
- 42:02Speaker 4: We had eight tens we got from high spots. We
- 42:04Speaker 4: had t shirts.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Towards the end, we had a lot of stuff. We
- 42:07Speaker 3: had a best of DVD at the end. I still
- 42:09Speaker 3: have it.
- 42:12Speaker 1: I feel like it wasn't as a merch wasn't really
- 42:14Speaker 1: a thing back then.
- 42:17Speaker 5: It wasn't, but I knew that it's funny.
- 42:19Speaker 3: I knew that Cabana did it, and like I would
- 42:21Speaker 3: like kind of like trying to steal that model of it.
- 42:25Speaker 4: I remember think at our logos, like for the shirts.
- 42:27Speaker 4: We had a Badass shirt in two thousand and four.
- 42:30Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Yeah. But I remember like there was one guy on
- 42:34Speaker 1: the show that would like sell a shirt and I
- 42:35Speaker 1: would always it.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Was not like not not even comparable to what goes
- 42:39Speaker 3: on today. If anything, there was dude selling like old
- 42:41Speaker 3: figures and stuff and stuff like that.
- 42:43Speaker 1: And I remember seeing Frankie Arion said set up his
- 42:46Speaker 1: shirts for the first time and just being like, what
- 42:48Speaker 1: do you think you're doing, dude, Joey Hudson any stories
- 42:53Speaker 1: about older, more experienced wrestlers making you feel like a
- 42:56Speaker 1: dumb Mark who Bros. Garrity told that you bought all right,
- 43:02Speaker 1: Matthew Wiley was gear hard to get made on andes.
- 43:06Speaker 4: Oh dude Spider who like made it himself, which was
- 43:10Speaker 4: great because like you know, he would make a gear,
- 43:14Speaker 4: but it was like, Okay, it's been like almost twenty
- 43:17Speaker 4: years since we started wrestling, We've not gotten any better
- 43:19Speaker 4: with the gear.
- 43:20Speaker 3: Like, yeah, Freddy, it's pretty, yeah, but it's barely passable.
- 43:25Speaker 4: Yeah. I used easy.
- 43:27Speaker 5: Money, Yeah, but it would take so long.
- 43:31Speaker 4: And like when I got the easy money gear, I
- 43:32Speaker 4: felt like I was indebted, Like it was like such
- 43:34Speaker 4: night and day from like Spiders.
- 43:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:37Speaker 3: I want to say for Christmas, Christmas maybe three, my
- 43:44Speaker 3: parents got me boots from Stage Codes oh yeah, and
- 43:47Speaker 3: I didn't get them into my hand till like fall
- 43:51Speaker 3: oh four. Yeah, remember I think I still have them.
- 43:55Speaker 3: They're mister perfect ripoff ones and say.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's a Christmas oh four or maybe
- 44:00Speaker 4: Christmas five, I got you like the double J like
- 44:05Speaker 4: sleeveless trench goat with the purple flames.
- 44:08Speaker 5: Yes, and like I still have it.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Spider, Like did it finish by the time, So it's
- 44:12Speaker 4: like just like cut up and it's not sewed like
- 44:15Speaker 4: at the seam. So we're getting them for like the
- 44:18Speaker 4: Psycho Circus, that's what I wanted to get him for.
- 44:20Speaker 4: But like looking back, a trash bag with like purple flames.
- 44:24Speaker 5: But that was also like the style that wet the
- 44:26Speaker 5: wet look.
- 44:27Speaker 3: It's called that wet shiny I know, to gypants looking stuff.
- 44:35Speaker 3: But yeah, when you're a jerbrown, it's very hard to
- 44:37Speaker 3: go gear because there's even now it's hard.
- 44:40Speaker 5: Even now it's hard.
- 44:41Speaker 4: Johnny Clash makes gear. Yeah, but he's learning to message him.
- 44:44Speaker 4: I said, hey, like I'm a gear's not like should
- 44:46Speaker 4: I wait, dick wait.
- 44:48Speaker 1: My god, flash the man Jeff Pike. Uh, did they
- 44:53Speaker 1: do a lot of traveling around?
- 44:55Speaker 5: Not really.
- 44:55Speaker 4: We tried and we said this on the productable week.
- 44:58Speaker 4: We tried to, but nobody wanted to to really book us.
- 45:00Speaker 4: That's why I like we had this idea because they
- 45:02Speaker 4: said we were too Wwe like, well, that's what we
- 45:04Speaker 4: want to do. We had the idea which we never
- 45:06Speaker 4: got about to do it, taking the WE logo flipping
- 45:09Speaker 4: upside down, we'd beat Myers and Matthews Entertainment, but we
- 45:13Speaker 4: got signed before that could really happen.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Are like two main goals or to work for ECWA
- 45:19Speaker 3: in Delaware and Chaotic in Massachusetts, because those were the
- 45:21Speaker 3: two like closely associated, like wwe like where they were
- 45:25Speaker 3: like scotting guys, and that was like our main goal
- 45:28Speaker 3: and we could not like catch a sniff from either
- 45:31Speaker 3: one of them. And we sent them like professional DVDs
- 45:34Speaker 3: A by ten like all the time.
- 45:36Speaker 5: We just sent you.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Have you ever worked for Chaotic? Yet?
- 45:38Speaker 5: No?
- 45:39Speaker 1: You know what's funny, the same thing for me. Chaotik
- 45:42Speaker 1: was the best when I first started, And I always
- 45:45Speaker 1: wanted to work for Chaotic and I never have and
- 45:48Speaker 1: I I still have never done it. And and Max
- 45:52Speaker 1: smash Master runs the school, Oh my god, damn for Chaotic,
- 45:57Speaker 1: and I'm like, what the Jesus I still can't sniff book.
- 46:00Speaker 3: I think I think back then it was like right
- 46:03Speaker 3: as doctor Tom left that first time, like those are
- 46:06Speaker 3: those schools he like worked closely with.
- 46:08Speaker 4: What's the show? We must have worked somebody on it.
- 46:11Speaker 4: I don't recall who we worked, and Plasma works like Monstermac.
- 46:19Speaker 5: That's Jersey. That's a Jersey all pro internet taping.
- 46:21Speaker 4: Okay, so who do we work though? No clue and
- 46:25Speaker 4: Jersey and so okay, so's Jersey all pro internet taping.
- 46:28Speaker 4: But I feel like this is like Pennsylvania connecticuts.
- 46:30Speaker 5: It's in Jersey Lake Khiawatha. Okay.
- 46:33Speaker 4: So Monstermac picks up Trent and he's doing this thing like.
- 46:38Speaker 3: The squad we're famous for throwing people into this wall
- 46:41Speaker 3: this old building. But it was a fucking hell of
- 46:44Speaker 3: a lot closer in this old building than it was
- 46:46Speaker 3: in this building we were in. So he was just
- 46:48Speaker 3: I don't know if he's feeling like the Glory Days
- 46:50Speaker 3: or whatever, but didn't even come close.
- 46:53Speaker 4: And he like lands on this like this like dugout bench,
- 46:57Speaker 4: and he's all like messed up and like we don't
- 46:59Speaker 4: know what to do in his parents on vacation. We
- 47:00Speaker 4: take him to the hospital and we feel like lied
- 47:03Speaker 4: say that you fell on a skateboard.
- 47:05Speaker 5: God, it is real, damn me uh him Dan Barry
- 47:09Speaker 5: mean And.
- 47:09Speaker 4: I had to leave early because I had to go
- 47:10Speaker 4: to work in the morning, It's rough at the Pizza Place,
- 47:13Speaker 4: Cow's Corner of the Dell.
- 47:15Speaker 3: That clip is still on YouTube. It's called that Kid
- 47:17Speaker 3: is Dead with like eight D's It's wild.
- 47:23Speaker 1: So similar question, Jeffrey Pike. Was there anyone on that
- 47:26Speaker 1: wrestling is that you knew that were going to be
- 47:28Speaker 1: big stars and then were.
- 47:32Speaker 5: Trent?
- 47:33Speaker 4: I knew eventually Tony Nice was gonna get picked up.
- 47:37Speaker 4: It took way too.
- 47:38Speaker 3: It took so long that I was like, maybe I
- 47:40Speaker 3: was wrong that I'll be honest with you at a
- 47:41Speaker 3: certain point, I'll be if I'm being honest, I'm like,
- 47:44Speaker 3: maybe I don't know because it just looks he's the
- 47:46Speaker 3: same age as I started at the same time. But
- 47:49Speaker 3: that's he's I mean, everyone has a different a different journey,
- 47:52Speaker 3: you know.
- 47:52Speaker 1: But man, Nick Glenn, did you feel like your run
- 47:59Speaker 1: was long enough to fully appreciate being on indies or
- 48:02Speaker 1: did you not feel that way until your second run
- 48:04Speaker 1: on indies? Brian Matt, do you feel robbed of an
- 48:07Speaker 1: indie run now due to your due to COVID nineteen?
- 48:10Speaker 1: Would you prefer working uh every Thursday through Sunday?
- 48:15Speaker 4: Are you okay with I would not prefer I do
- 48:17Speaker 4: not want to work Thursday through Sunday, right, like every week? Fuck?
- 48:22Speaker 2: No?
- 48:22Speaker 1: Right, like I do not all right, but there was
- 48:26Speaker 1: a lot there. Do you feel like it was long
- 48:30Speaker 1: enough to fully appreciate your run?
- 48:32Speaker 4: And I never wanted to be an indie rest. I
- 48:35Speaker 4: wanted to be in.
- 48:37Speaker 1: Brian wanted it, and then he got that later.
- 48:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I was like obviously, like when we got released,
- 48:43Speaker 4: it was already in this pandemic thing where it's not
- 48:45Speaker 4: like so it was like, oh wow, I can't do
- 48:48Speaker 4: any of these like shows right now. Even now it's
- 48:51Speaker 4: like so it's like there are some, but it's like
- 48:53Speaker 4: few and part between, the world's still weird. Eventually, Yes,
- 48:56Speaker 4: I would love to, But do I want to work
- 48:58Speaker 4: Thursday through Sunday? No, I'll pick what I want. There's
- 49:03Speaker 4: no I do not want to work four days a week,
- 49:06Speaker 4: and I just don't.
- 49:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I got it all out of my system the
- 49:10Speaker 3: first firing, because that's what I mean.
- 49:12Speaker 5: I dreamed of being any wrestler.
- 49:14Speaker 3: I didn't really get to do it, or at least
- 49:15Speaker 3: I didn't get to do it when I was any good,
- 49:17Speaker 3: you know, So it was like a legit dream come true,
- 49:21Speaker 3: as odd as that sounds. Like to just kind of
- 49:23Speaker 3: go and reverse and pile into cars.
- 49:26Speaker 5: And just I don't know, kind of just you know,
- 49:30Speaker 5: the dingy buildings and.
- 49:32Speaker 3: Just all those you know, had I had, you know,
- 49:34Speaker 3: I got to work dcw Arena, and I got to work,
- 49:37Speaker 3: you know, create a world birthday parties like you know,
- 49:41Speaker 3: everything in between, you know, shitty shindies and just and
- 49:44Speaker 3: I just I just love wrestling in all its forms.
- 49:46Speaker 5: You know, I'll take it, you know anyway.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Right, So, but that been said, I this time, I
- 49:52Speaker 3: don't I don't want to do that at all because
- 49:54Speaker 3: I got it all out of my system and I'm a.
- 49:56Speaker 5: Parent, and I just I don't know.
- 49:58Speaker 3: I have just had different responsibility that I've really sunk
- 50:01Speaker 3: my teeth into impact and obviously with my contract, I'm
- 50:05Speaker 3: allowed to do other things, but it's just got to
- 50:08Speaker 3: be meat on the bone for me to to do that.
- 50:11Speaker 4: I just I just realized something as we're as we're
- 50:13Speaker 4: talking here. So we got released on April fifteenth.
- 50:16Speaker 5: Text day, brother Iris got us.
- 50:19Speaker 4: So I did not do any indie shows in one year,
- 50:23Speaker 4: but on Friday April sixteenth, I don't let my first show,
- 50:30Speaker 4: oh no, sorry, sorry, Friday April sixty is Stop in Ashcotch.
- 50:33Speaker 4: The seventeenth is water City Wrestler cod will be my
- 50:37Speaker 4: first indie show, unblable. I don't even know who are
- 50:40Speaker 4: wrestling quarter to this, quarter to this. It's me right
- 50:43Speaker 4: of the booking man against to deal tosh icp with
- 50:46Speaker 4: Big Kevin's the special ref. That's what it looks like.
- 50:48Speaker 5: That sounds like awesome.
- 50:48Speaker 4: I don't know if that's the match, but that will be.
- 50:51Speaker 4: That will be your first match.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Two more questions. You were both already obsessed with pro
- 50:56Speaker 1: wrestling before training. How much did that obsession amplify once
- 50:59Speaker 1: you started A.
- 51:00Speaker 4: Hundred And that's what I think separated me and Brian
- 51:05Speaker 4: from like the pack of people, because like then, like
- 51:09Speaker 4: my obsession wasn't just like let me collect the figures
- 51:11Speaker 4: and buy other DVDs a best buy. Then I was like,
- 51:13Speaker 4: oh no, I need to like be the best. I
- 51:15Speaker 4: need to have the best gear. We need to have
- 51:17Speaker 4: like we need to think of like these double team,
- 51:19Speaker 4: we need to like blah blah blah.
- 51:20Speaker 5: Whatever.
- 51:20Speaker 4: It was like my obsession went into every other aspect
- 51:23Speaker 4: of it and it just didn't turn off. And I think,
- 51:25Speaker 4: like what Brian was talking about, like it's cool if
- 51:27Speaker 4: you want to make it like the softball practice, but
- 51:29Speaker 4: it was like we weren't the once a week people like.
- 51:32Speaker 4: Even if we went to practice once a week twice
- 51:33Speaker 4: a week, it was a seven day a week. It
- 51:36Speaker 4: really was a seven day a week thing.
- 51:38Speaker 1: What you mean, Yeah, I.
- 51:41Speaker 3: Mean I'm literally gonna stop this recording and go watch
- 51:44Speaker 3: wrestling in my bed.
- 51:45Speaker 4: So that's that's gonna take my bad that's obsessed with
- 51:49Speaker 4: wrestling back.
- 51:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I feel like that's part of wrestling too.
- 51:52Speaker 1: You if you are going to be successful, you have
- 51:56Speaker 1: to do that. It's okay if you don't. But I
- 51:59Speaker 1: remember like coming in the CAP at first and like
- 52:01Speaker 1: talking to Joe fit Bear Bronson and just like him
- 52:05Speaker 1: and Max going back and forth and talking. I'm like, oh, man,
- 52:08Speaker 1: do I like wrestling as much as these guys? Like
- 52:10Speaker 1: I don't even know. But then once, once you do it,
- 52:13Speaker 1: it just amplifies. And CAP actually does that for you too.
- 52:16Speaker 1: It like sucks you.
- 52:18Speaker 3: It's like a great place like people ash as we
- 52:20Speaker 3: kick him out of guy like we can't, it's too
- 52:23Speaker 3: precious of it.
- 52:23Speaker 5: Like an environment, you know.
- 52:25Speaker 3: I always hated that about like developmental and we'll get
- 52:27Speaker 3: into it in another episode, but like theyre trying to
- 52:30Speaker 3: make it so miserable. But I'm like everyone here is
- 52:32Speaker 3: like pretty much living their dream. Like let's make this
- 52:34Speaker 3: positive like environment. You know, it doesn't make any sense.
- 52:39Speaker 1: All right, Final question, Michael Maniaki, what were your cactus
- 52:44Speaker 1: Jack sleeping in his car moments while working in and
- 52:47Speaker 1: he's any any big low moments.
- 52:51Speaker 4: I don't think so. I mean, I don't think so
- 52:54Speaker 4: at all. We didn't really have anything like that.
- 52:59Speaker 5: If everything we made no money, I.
- 53:02Speaker 4: Mean, that's that's the god.
- 53:04Speaker 5: There was no money involved in this.
- 53:06Speaker 4: Amy Dragon once gave me that that head patented like
- 53:08Speaker 4: empty envelope. I know that the envelope.
- 53:13Speaker 5: I know.
- 53:13Speaker 3: I don't even recall ever getting paid. I know at
- 53:16Speaker 3: Jersey all Pro, that big Robbie show, we got thirty
- 53:19Speaker 3: bucks each and I was like, well.
- 53:21Speaker 4: I remember we were supposed to work for a Carmine
- 53:23Speaker 4: sab yet and it's like a big deal for us
- 53:25Speaker 4: because we got like an outside book it might have
- 53:27Speaker 4: been our first outside booking ever. And then like we
- 53:30Speaker 4: found out it got canceled that day by like some
- 53:32Speaker 4: message board thing. Yeah, like he didn't even content even
- 53:36Speaker 4: like last year he like content me on Twitters, like
- 53:38Speaker 4: hey call me or dm me, I have something to
- 53:40Speaker 4: talk about, Like no, you canceled the book you got
- 53:42Speaker 4: me like five years ago. I remember like when we
- 53:46Speaker 4: were during you know, our indie run. We this like
- 53:50Speaker 4: probably the biggest thing we ever did was and looking back,
- 53:53Speaker 4: it's not that big of a deal, but at the
- 53:54Speaker 4: time it was huge. We got called to be extras
- 53:58Speaker 4: at SmackDown, and like I remember, I was panicking because
- 54:01Speaker 4: like Brian was like I don't think you were like
- 54:02Speaker 4: playing baseball some of your friends at college like Tommy Dreamers.
- 54:05Speaker 4: Though where's Brian. Where's Like I don't know, he's.
- 54:07Speaker 3: Nothing that happened like Sunday myself fall league in my
- 54:09Speaker 3: college where I was out like hanging out with my buddies.
- 54:12Speaker 4: Like you didn't have yourself on, like on you at
- 54:13Speaker 4: all times.
- 54:14Speaker 5: Yeah, it was like not like that.
- 54:15Speaker 4: And then he raced back from from college. We like
- 54:18Speaker 4: tanned ourselves like with like fake tannor like horrible fake Tanner,
- 54:22Speaker 4: like in my parents like bathroom upstairs. I had like
- 54:24Speaker 4: a sleepover party. They went to MSG. Like we didn't
- 54:27Speaker 4: even have roller bags like big Nike, like Duffel bags
- 54:30Speaker 4: or whatever, and like we're shaking everyone's head. We don't
- 54:32Speaker 4: know what we've told this story before, but like just
- 54:34Speaker 4: thinking back.
- 54:35Speaker 5: To like insane experience.
- 54:36Speaker 4: We also, at least me, I was actually always already.
- 54:40Speaker 4: I didn't have any gear that wasn't like Myers and
- 54:43Speaker 4: Matthews gear, and I was wrestling like Mad Moore. They
- 54:46Speaker 4: were very like strict like don't oil up. There was
- 54:48Speaker 4: basically don't look good, don't put whatever. So I had
- 54:51Speaker 4: to use Brian. Brian luckily had like some blue like
- 54:54Speaker 4: patterners my mom.
- 54:55Speaker 5: Bought me for Christmas and I just had I never wore.
- 54:57Speaker 3: I just keep them in my bag, just aneric baby
- 55:00Speaker 3: blue bikers that were like way too long from high spots.
- 55:03Speaker 4: Yeah, And I wore those and like that was like
- 55:06Speaker 4: probably our biggest thing and like it was cool, Like
- 55:09Speaker 4: I don't know, do I. I. When we had our
- 55:12Speaker 4: WW try out, I didn't think we were getting signed
- 55:14Speaker 4: from It was terrible, but I was like, all right,
- 55:18Speaker 4: we're twenty, we got w try out. This is good
- 55:20Speaker 4: good so they know who we are, and we ended
- 55:22Speaker 4: up getting signed. Like I think things were starting to
- 55:24Speaker 4: pick up for us. I think we were going to
- 55:26Speaker 4: do that mys Matthew's entertainment thing. I think I think
- 55:28Speaker 4: it wouldn't have I do think things would have really
- 55:30Speaker 4: picked up for us.
- 55:31Speaker 5: I do think that.
- 55:32Speaker 1: But all right, well the next one, guys, there's a
- 55:35Speaker 1: lot of meat on the bone, because both Matt and
- 55:38Speaker 1: Brian feel like Deep South developmental could be a dark
- 55:43Speaker 1: side of the ring episode, so.
- 55:45Speaker 5: In a good way.
- 55:46Speaker 3: Hey, her stuff. If it's developmental, it's deep South OBW.
- 55:51Speaker 3: And you can even ask me FCW questions.
- 55:53Speaker 1: All right, so developmental questions for next month going on,
- 55:57Speaker 1: I'll get a I'll get a thread going and then also, and.
- 56:00Speaker 4: You know what, then you could ask me some NXT questions.
- 56:02Speaker 5: I mean I kind of did that too, So yeah.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Look out for the Chelsea and Liz question thing.
- 56:09Speaker 5: To follow the line with Liz and Chelsea come soon.
- 56:12Speaker 1: All right, thanks guys, we're on the dogs.
- 57:02Speaker 3: Stands. Stan
