- 0:16Speaker 1: I feel a lot better than I would have thought
- 0:18Speaker 1: i'd feel. You know, I'm very fortunate. I'm thankful that
- 0:23Speaker 1: it wasn't a worse injury, you know than what I
- 0:26Speaker 1: kind of thought it was in a field, So I'm
- 0:28Speaker 1: thankful for that, you know.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Welcome to jackson presented by Field's Auto Group, Jacksonville. You
- 0:34Speaker 2: can step up to luxury at Fields Auto dot com.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I'm kind Nanni Stevens, Brian Sexton, John Osier with me.
- 0:39Speaker 2: That was Trevor Lawrence and he's talking about his high
- 0:42Speaker 2: ankle sprain. As he said, he feels he's very fortunate
- 0:46Speaker 2: that it wasn't worse than what he expected. So our
- 0:49Speaker 2: first big thing today is gonna be So you're telling
- 0:51Speaker 2: me there's a chance, because they have not ruled out
- 0:54Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrence to play this week. Trevor talked a little
- 0:56Speaker 2: bit yesterday about what it's gonna take for him to
- 0:58Speaker 2: decide that he'll be ready to put and cleanland.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's still it's still early in the week.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Obviously in New Orleans, I didn't know until right before
- 1:06Speaker 1: the game, but and that was this is a short week,
- 1:09Speaker 1: but that was a really short week. So we'll have
- 1:11Speaker 1: a couple more days than we did then, which is
- 1:13Speaker 1: which is nice, but still lost the day playing on
- 1:15Speaker 1: Monday night. So I guess that's just the way it's
- 1:17Speaker 1: been going this year with some of that stuff. But
- 1:20Speaker 1: you know, I'm really just taking it one day at
- 1:22Speaker 1: a time. I'm trying to do do as much as
- 1:24Speaker 1: I can each day without you know, aggravating it or
- 1:28Speaker 1: making anything worse, but trying to progress towards, you know,
- 1:31Speaker 1: hopefully playing like that's the that's the goal every week
- 1:34Speaker 1: and every day is to try to get as healthy
- 1:36Speaker 1: as possible. And in the past what forty eight hours
- 1:39Speaker 1: have been some big steps and I'm really happy with
- 1:42Speaker 1: with how it's it's healing up.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So the team says, I've taken it day today at
- 1:47Speaker 2: this point. Trevor did not practice yesterday, still rehabing that injury. Brian,
- 1:51Speaker 2: you said you're gonna be shocked if he played on Sunday.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Reshocked how he was yesterday.
- 1:55Speaker 3: I'll tell you I said yesterday Kuy that I thought
- 1:58Speaker 3: he would be superman if you played this week. And
- 2:01Speaker 3: while we don't yet know if he can fly, he
- 2:03Speaker 3: certainly was wearing the cape when he walked into the
- 2:05Speaker 3: press conference without a boot, wearing a shoe, you know,
- 2:09Speaker 3: I mean, no crutches.
- 2:11Speaker 4: The way that it looked when.
- 2:13Speaker 3: He walked down the tunnel on Monday night, I just
- 2:17Speaker 3: there's no way I could see. But of course everyone
- 2:20Speaker 3: heals differently, and this guy may truly John be the
- 2:23Speaker 3: man of steel, because even though I think there's still
- 2:26Speaker 3: only a fifty to fifty chance that he actually goes
- 2:29Speaker 3: in the cold and the wet, and with Miles Garrett
- 2:33Speaker 3: standing there on the other side of the line, the
- 2:35Speaker 3: fact that they're even trying tells you there's something about
- 2:38Speaker 3: this guy that stands out.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Yeah, and Ryan, you guys, you and I have everything
- 2:42Speaker 5: coming league. By the same time, a while back, you
- 2:46Speaker 5: heard high ankle sprain and it was out for four
- 2:49Speaker 5: to six weeks. Last year, Mahomes after injuring his high
- 2:54Speaker 5: ankle against the Jags plays. Maybe change the dynamic of
- 2:58Speaker 5: that a little bit. I had written all week, no way,
- 3:03Speaker 5: thought no way. Now I don't know, but I kind
- 3:08Speaker 5: of leaned toward that he's gonna play, and that would
- 3:11Speaker 5: have shocked me to say on Monday.
- 3:12Speaker 6: So that's all I'm to say about that.
- 3:15Speaker 3: We were all surprised when they had him at his
- 3:17Speaker 3: regularly scheduled podium time. Because a guy who's hurt and
- 3:21Speaker 3: going through rehabit, I mean, generally they don't make those
- 3:23Speaker 3: guys come out, So the first thing you're thinking is
- 3:26Speaker 3: he gonna play? And then when he walked in without
- 3:28Speaker 3: the boot on kai, it was like, WHOA, Okay. So
- 3:31Speaker 3: while nobody knows for sure, they don't even know for sure.
- 3:34Speaker 3: It's gonna depend on how the rehab goes the rest
- 3:36Speaker 3: of the week. This is a very very interesting story.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Now what a different today makes for him as well.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I think we saw something similar when he had the
- 3:45Speaker 2: knee injury. He said very quickly that the next couple
- 3:47Speaker 2: of days he felt a lot better than he thought
- 3:49Speaker 2: he was going to. So hopefully he's just a superhuman
- 3:52Speaker 2: healer and he will be ready to go on Sunday
- 3:54Speaker 2: if not. Big thing Number two is the backup plant.
- 3:57Speaker 2: DJ Bethard would start in place of Trevor Lawrence, and
- 4:00Speaker 2: he's been a backup for quite some time. He's been
- 4:02Speaker 2: around the league for a while, and he says he's
- 4:04Speaker 2: ready to go if necessary.
- 4:06Speaker 7: I think you got to just stay steady throughout all
- 4:09Speaker 7: of it, especially, you know, unmust it's a situation where
- 4:12Speaker 7: he has clearly been ruled out, and that's a different circumstance.
- 4:16Speaker 7: But you know, I just got to stay level headed
- 4:18Speaker 7: throughout the week and prepare as if I am going
- 4:21Speaker 7: to play. But then you know, at the end of
- 4:22Speaker 7: the day, if I don't, then then that means he's
- 4:25Speaker 7: healthy enough to play, and that's good for a.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Team John and may be a little bit weird for
- 4:29Speaker 2: the players not knowing who's going to be quarterback, the
- 4:31Speaker 2: fans as well, but Bethrid pretty much prepares every week
- 4:33Speaker 2: as if he may play, So this he seems to
- 4:35Speaker 2: be pretty comfortable with.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, now, the difference is you get more
- 4:39Speaker 5: rep so you're more prepared. He has a shoulder limiting him,
- 4:42Speaker 5: but my understanding is he took most of the reps
- 4:45Speaker 5: in practice on Wednesday. Look, he's done it before. He's
- 4:50Speaker 5: a backup, so he's not as good as the starter.
- 4:53Speaker 5: They're not as good with C. J. Bethart as there
- 4:55Speaker 5: with Trevor Lawrence.
- 4:56Speaker 4: But I think.
- 4:58Speaker 5: One thing that I think shouldn't be forgot and does
- 5:01Speaker 5: factor in this is the success that Doug Peterson had
- 5:04Speaker 5: with backup quarterback Nick Foles in twenty seventeen that matters
- 5:09Speaker 5: in terms of not necessarily the quarterback himself, but in
- 5:12Speaker 5: terms of the ability to adjust the offense quickly to
- 5:16Speaker 5: the new quarterback strength. CJ should and does have great
- 5:20Speaker 5: confidence in Doug with that and with this system to
- 5:23Speaker 5: be able to do that. I think that plays into it.
- 5:26Speaker 5: And you saw the other night. He played well enough
- 5:30Speaker 5: the other night for the Jaguars to win. Probably should
- 5:33Speaker 5: have had the winning touchdown or setting up the winning
- 5:35Speaker 5: touchdown overtime, a really.
- 5:38Speaker 6: Good drive at the end of the game. It's not
- 5:41Speaker 6: inconceivable they go win this game with CJ.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Pat Bryant. You think you can go thirty two to
- 5:44Speaker 4: thirty seven.
- 5:45Speaker 3: I mean, look, you can win with backup quarterbacks. Jake
- 5:48Speaker 3: Browning approved it last week, and of course he's got
- 5:50Speaker 3: Jamar Chase. But Jaguars have some weapons even without Kirk.
- 5:53Speaker 3: They've got guys who can be difference makers. Here's the difference.
- 5:56Speaker 3: They're going up to Cleveland to play on a wet
- 5:59Speaker 3: field on a cold, windy day, and they're going against
- 6:03Speaker 3: the number one defense and the number one pass defense.
- 6:06Speaker 4: So it's gonna be interesting.
- 6:07Speaker 3: You would think right out of the gate, they've got
- 6:10Speaker 3: to help this guy with the running game.
- 6:11Speaker 4: They have got to be able to get.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Four yards every time they run the ball and stay
- 6:16Speaker 3: out a third and long no matter who the quarterback is,
- 6:20Speaker 3: because that defense is really freaking good. You can beat
- 6:23Speaker 3: the Browns with CJ. Bethard if everyone else plays to
- 6:27Speaker 3: their potential or plays close to their potential.
- 6:30Speaker 8: We got some banged to players as well.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Traves Ztn still has those bruised ribs, so there's a
- 6:34Speaker 2: lot of other things in play here as well. The
- 6:36Speaker 2: offensive line. We don't know who'll be starting there. Our
- 6:38Speaker 2: final big thing this week has been there, done that.
- 6:41Speaker 2: John talked a little bit about what think Doug Peterson
- 6:43Speaker 2: did in Philadelphia with a backup quarterback. Not only did
- 6:46Speaker 2: he play well, he won a super Bowl. And Doug
- 6:48Speaker 2: talked a little bit about what that takes in his
- 6:50Speaker 2: presser yesterday.
- 6:52Speaker 9: The strength of the player really and making sure he's
- 6:56Speaker 9: comfortable with what we're doing. And again, it may it
- 7:00Speaker 9: may look different to people you know how you go
- 7:02Speaker 9: about it, but the bottom line is you've still got
- 7:05Speaker 9: to go out and compete and execute and try to
- 7:08Speaker 9: win that game, you know, and focus on that and
- 7:11Speaker 9: however that gets done, it doesn't really matter it's just,
- 7:15Speaker 9: you know, that's the main focus. So like in seventeen,
- 7:19Speaker 9: you know, I had to focus on what Nick Fole's
- 7:22Speaker 9: strengths were as opposed to carson strengths back then, and
- 7:26Speaker 9: making sure that the guys around him again did their
- 7:30Speaker 9: part right, and it.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Worked out, works out pretty well, and he got a
- 7:37Speaker 2: Super Bowl ring out of it. Brian, we talked Jay Browning,
- 7:40Speaker 2: looked great, looked like Joe Burrow out there. So it
- 7:43Speaker 2: can be done. And we've seen a lot of backups
- 7:45Speaker 2: around the league. Unfortunately, a lot of starting quarterbacks go down.
- 7:48Speaker 2: So is it just kind of ride the wave with
- 7:50Speaker 2: CJ until you can get Trevor back.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Well, the one thing Doug said over and over and
- 7:54Speaker 3: over is they've really got to figure out how to
- 7:57Speaker 3: best position Beth to do. What he does is going
- 8:00Speaker 3: to be different with him because he's not Trevor Lawrence.
- 8:03Speaker 3: So they've got to get together with CJ this week
- 8:06Speaker 3: and figure out what he likes and what he does.
- 8:08Speaker 3: And oh, by the way, appears they're going to be
- 8:10Speaker 3: doing the same thing with Trevor, right, But you want
- 8:14Speaker 3: to say, this guy is the foremost expert on getting
- 8:17Speaker 3: a backup quarterback ready to go because he won a
- 8:20Speaker 3: Super Bowl with one. And then you see what Zach
- 8:22Speaker 3: Taylor did the other night getting Jake Browning ready to go.
- 8:25Speaker 4: They can do it.
- 8:26Speaker 3: And I believe that if they Taylor the offense, and
- 8:30Speaker 3: then again John Kevin Ridley has to make the catch
- 8:33Speaker 3: right and Travis Etn has to make the cut, and
- 8:37Speaker 3: whoever the left tackle is, you know, has to hold up.
- 8:40Speaker 3: We can't say this enough. It's not going to be CJ.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Bethard who beats the Browns. It's going to be the
- 8:46Speaker 3: rest of the team playing their best game and helping CJ.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Bethard move the offense up and down the field.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Yet, and sometimes the backup can have a little bit
- 8:56Speaker 5: of an advantage in the sense that the defense really
- 9:00Speaker 5: has no idea how the Jaguars will play with CJ.
- 9:04Speaker 5: Bethard because they've never played with CJ. Bethard, And that
- 9:07Speaker 5: can be a big deal in terms of being ready
- 9:10Speaker 5: to know what you're gonna see that day. So I
- 9:13Speaker 5: think Jerry might have a little bit of an edge there.
- 9:16Speaker 5: I'll be honest. I think Trevor's playing, So I think
- 9:19Speaker 5: this last segment might be something that's not, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 5: not pertinent but I do think if CJ does play,
- 9:27Speaker 5: I think you're gonna see a little bit of a
- 9:28Speaker 5: surge and he's gonna he's gonna outplay what a lot
- 9:31Speaker 5: of people's expectations are.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Can I get just throw this out there, Johnny, should
- 9:35Speaker 3: he play? I mean, you saw the way that he
- 9:38Speaker 3: hobbled down the Should he play with a quarterback that
- 9:41Speaker 3: you want to be your guy for the next you know,
- 9:43Speaker 3: fifteen years.
- 9:44Speaker 5: I think it goes back to what we talked about,
- 9:46Speaker 5: the other day. If the doctors clear him, if he
- 9:49Speaker 5: wants to play, if there's significant risk of further injury.
- 9:53Speaker 5: I don't know enough about how how high ankles work
- 9:57Speaker 5: on that front. If you think putting mouth there is
- 10:00Speaker 5: going to further the injury, then you don't play it
- 10:02Speaker 5: at all.
- 10:02Speaker 4: Well, there's a surgeon, a procedure, you know you're totally right.
- 10:04Speaker 3: And Doug talked about one hundred percent right, not putting
- 10:07Speaker 3: him back out there until he's one hundred percent. He
- 10:09Speaker 3: wasn't talking until he feels perfect. He was talking about
- 10:12Speaker 3: being one hundred percent sure that there is no way
- 10:15Speaker 3: you're going to cause more damage. I just go back
- 10:18Speaker 3: to the fact that it's going to be a wet
- 10:19Speaker 3: field and you got Miles Garrett over there, and you
- 10:22Speaker 3: wonder how well he can move, because movement is protection
- 10:25Speaker 3: for him.
- 10:25Speaker 4: He gets out of harm's wed again.
- 10:27Speaker 3: I don't think they'll put him in a position where
- 10:29Speaker 3: he is not or put him in a position where
- 10:32Speaker 3: he is in danger. But there is that balance and
- 10:35Speaker 3: that they were both asked about it. You know, player, coach,
- 10:38Speaker 3: Do I play, don't I play? Who makes the decision?
- 10:40Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 10:41Speaker 6: I think.
- 10:43Speaker 5: If it if he's able, willing and feels it, and
- 10:47Speaker 5: the doctor of Claarmenik, he plays.
- 10:49Speaker 3: So you think the Mahomes thing factors into it at all.
- 10:51Speaker 3: You think he saw Mahomes do that and says if
- 10:53Speaker 3: he can do it, I can do it.
- 10:54Speaker 4: That's the best quarterback in the league. That's who I
- 10:57Speaker 4: want to be.
- 10:57Speaker 5: He does it, I do it probably a little and
- 11:00Speaker 5: I think inspiring teammates earning that plays into a little bit.
- 11:05Speaker 5: I also think it's sort of his nature.
- 11:07Speaker 8: I think it is too.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I think he mentioned when he heard his knee that
- 11:10Speaker 2: he's never missed a game for injury and it was
- 11:12Speaker 2: very fortunate to never had a serious injury. And I
- 11:14Speaker 2: think that kind of plays on his mind. Too, is
- 11:16Speaker 2: that if he can play through it, he will so
- 11:18Speaker 2: I guess we'll have to see, but we'll wait on
- 11:19Speaker 2: that one. Coming up after the break, we're going to
- 11:21Speaker 2: go over the Browns, what they're bringing to the table,
- 11:24Speaker 2: and what this matchup might look like.
- 11:25Speaker 8: On Sunday.

- 13:17Speaker 2: Public Supermarket located at eight thirty five County Road to
- 13:20Speaker 2: ten West in Saint John's, Florida. That's Tuesday December twelfth,
- 13:24Speaker 2: from five to six to meet some of your favorite
- 13:26Speaker 2: Jaguars players. Welcome back into jag Zam here this morning
- 13:30Speaker 2: in the Hyundai studios as we get ready for a
- 13:33Speaker 2: game in Cleveland on Sunday. Maybe kind of rainy, kind
- 13:35Speaker 2: of cold, maybe a messy game. We're not entirely sure
- 13:39Speaker 2: what that's gonna look like. Who's gonna be on the field,
- 13:41Speaker 2: But across the way, they don't really know either. And
- 13:43Speaker 2: that's something we haven't mentioned a ton of is that
- 13:45Speaker 2: obviously Deshaun Watson is out for the year, but they
- 13:48Speaker 2: had Joe Flacco last week. They have during Thomson Robinson.
- 13:52Speaker 2: I believe in the protocol still concussion protocol still, so
- 13:55Speaker 2: they're not naming a starter either. So it's a little
- 13:58Speaker 2: bit of cat and mouth with both teams, right And.
- 14:00Speaker 3: They also have a just lengthy list of injured players.
- 14:04Speaker 3: You know, they're playing this year without both of their
- 14:06Speaker 3: starting offensive tackles who were gone for the year. In fact,
- 14:10Speaker 3: they're backup bright tackle, the Big Kim from Ohio State
- 14:12Speaker 3: is battling an injury. No Nick Chubb and Amari Cooper's
- 14:15Speaker 3: in the concussion protocol, and you're dealing with the shoulder
- 14:17Speaker 3: with Garrett and Denzel Wood, their corner who's probably one
- 14:20Speaker 3: of the best three or four corners in the AFC.
- 14:23Speaker 3: He hasn't played a lot lately either, So both teams
- 14:25Speaker 3: are dealing with a lot of injuries and it's gonna
- 14:27Speaker 3: be right at the game time.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Do you see what you're dealing with.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm surprised that it's iffy on whether Flakka starts.
- 14:34Speaker 5: My understanding was Flaka played really well and they felt
- 14:37Speaker 5: like they had something there. I would still expect him
- 14:40Speaker 5: to start, but it's uncertain. I think the difference between
- 14:43Speaker 5: the two teams, even when Trevor's not playing well, the
- 14:49Speaker 5: Jaguars are a Trevor Lawrence centric offense. The Browns really
- 14:54Speaker 5: aren't a quarterback centric offense. I think they're maybe a
- 14:57Speaker 5: little better equipped to handle the quarterback being out, even
- 15:01Speaker 5: when Deshaun Watson was in.
- 15:03Speaker 6: This team loves to run. They're good at it.
- 15:06Speaker 5: That's my worry, frankly, in this game, if the Jaguars
- 15:09Speaker 5: have to turn around and rely on their running game.
- 15:12Speaker 5: They haven't done that yet this year. So it happens
- 15:15Speaker 5: all the time in the NFL. What you don't expect happens.
- 15:18Speaker 5: But to me, that's the major storyline of this game.
- 15:20Speaker 5: Can the Jaguars run against this team, no matter, no
- 15:22Speaker 5: matter how beat up the Browns are well?
- 15:24Speaker 3: And then on the other side, you mentioned that they're
- 15:25Speaker 3: a team that likes to run the ball and does
- 15:27Speaker 3: it well even without Nick Chubb. The Jaguars are coming
- 15:30Speaker 3: off their worst performance against the run, and you're dealing
- 15:33Speaker 3: with the injury to fully fought Tacosti in the middle
- 15:35Speaker 3: of the line. I mean, the other storyline is can
- 15:38Speaker 3: they stop the run? It's funny you go back to
- 15:40Speaker 3: one of the original teams, you know, AFC Central teams,
- 15:43Speaker 3: and the cold and the wet, and you can throw
- 15:45Speaker 3: everything to the side. It becomes about the basics. Can
- 15:47Speaker 3: you run the ball and can you stop the run?
- 15:49Speaker 3: And in a league that has increasingly become a quarterback
- 15:53Speaker 3: driven can you throw the ball?
- 15:55Speaker 4: Can you take your shots league?
- 15:58Speaker 5: Maybe the Jaguars can resign Von Dunbar and he can
- 16:00Speaker 5: go up there and win in Cleveland.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Like he did five a man.
- 16:04Speaker 3: You are bringing it all back. Mickey Washington had a
- 16:06Speaker 3: touchdown return in the Old Mistake.
- 16:08Speaker 4: By the Lake.
- 16:13Speaker 5: To Browns in ninety five in one of their first
- 16:15Speaker 5: big wins around here, and Von Dunbar, a running back,
- 16:19Speaker 5: had a huge game in that game was the last win.
- 16:21Speaker 3: That they would have until the season finale against the
- 16:26Speaker 3: same Browns, And of course, the week after the Jaguars
- 16:28Speaker 3: beating the announced they were moving to Cleveland to become
- 16:30Speaker 3: the I'm sorry to Baltimore become the Ravens.
- 16:32Speaker 8: Oh, the Baltimore Ravens. That's another game. We can't get
- 16:34Speaker 8: there yet. We can't get there yet.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Cleveland's defense we do need to talk about because that
- 16:38Speaker 2: is probably one of their strong suits, one of the
- 16:40Speaker 2: best defenses in the NFL. And fortunately for the Jaguars
- 16:44Speaker 2: and Jaguars fans is that Doug Peterson is very familiar
- 16:48Speaker 2: with the defensive coordinator over there, and he talked a
- 16:50Speaker 2: little bit about what the Cleveland defense does.
- 16:53Speaker 9: Well, you know, he feels like if he can put
- 16:58Speaker 9: pressure on your quarterback with four, now he's got seven
- 17:01Speaker 9: guys back there with with eyes on the quarterback, they
- 17:04Speaker 9: can make plays on the ball in the run end
- 17:06Speaker 9: pass game. And and that's what you see with this defense.
- 17:09Speaker 9: And the strength is obviously you know this d line,
- 17:13Speaker 9: they're they're they're aggressive. Obviously we know Miles Garrett heck
- 17:18Speaker 9: of a player. A lot of respect for him and
- 17:21Speaker 9: and the way he plays the game. But the other
- 17:24Speaker 9: guys are, you know, as talented as well, and.
- 17:28Speaker 8: Brian.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Does it help being familiar with that defense or are
- 17:31Speaker 2: they just so good it doesn't you know what they're
- 17:33Speaker 2: doing you just can't necessarily.
- 17:34Speaker 4: I think it's one of those things. Okay, you see
- 17:35Speaker 4: ninety five here? Can you block him? Right?
- 17:37Speaker 3: Can you get the ball past Denzel Ward on the outside.
- 17:41Speaker 3: They built this defense and they've dealt with some injuries.
- 17:45Speaker 3: But Jim Schwartz is a guy that we know well
- 17:47Speaker 3: from his days in Tennessee and obviously Doug knows well
- 17:50Speaker 3: from his days in Philadelphia.
- 17:52Speaker 4: He is aggressive.
- 17:53Speaker 3: I mean he will send everything without abandon. He is
- 17:57Speaker 3: about making the quarterbacks life utter hell of And when
- 18:01Speaker 3: you've got a quarterback that you don't think can necessarily
- 18:03Speaker 3: move very well, then you know you're getting the whole
- 18:08Speaker 3: barnyard from him.
- 18:09Speaker 5: Yeah, the base of their defense. Schwartz really wants to
- 18:12Speaker 5: get there with four and play seven in the back.
- 18:15Speaker 5: Guess what, That's what everybody wants to do. They're good
- 18:18Speaker 5: at it. When Miles Garrett is really good at it.
- 18:21Speaker 5: Miles Garrett played through an injury last week and I
- 18:24Speaker 5: really didn't.
- 18:25Speaker 6: Have much of an impact on the game.
- 18:26Speaker 5: You have a stat so that's where you wonder, Okay,
- 18:30Speaker 5: is he Miles Garrett. If so, then it's a very
- 18:34Speaker 5: disruptive defense. If he's not, they're still very good. But
- 18:38Speaker 5: he's obviously a huge factor in it. So I think
- 18:40Speaker 5: that's a huge storyline to watch.
- 18:42Speaker 6: Overall.
- 18:43Speaker 5: The thing that's interesting Jaguar is very very good on
- 18:46Speaker 5: the road. The Browns are an entirely different team at home,
- 18:52Speaker 5: so that has to be tested. I've said all week,
- 18:55Speaker 5: I think this is a phenomenally interesting game for the
- 18:59Speaker 5: Jaguars in turn of their maturity, their character. You go
- 19:02Speaker 5: up and beat this team in this situation with this
- 19:06Speaker 5: defense against what the Jaguars are going to throw out
- 19:08Speaker 5: their offensively, I think it's It would go down as
- 19:12Speaker 5: one of the most impressive wins of Doug's tenure here.
- 19:16Speaker 6: If this happens.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Because of all the injuries, I don't think most people
- 19:19Speaker 3: realize these guys are seven and five right and quietly
- 19:23Speaker 3: they're in the sixth.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Spot out of seven in the AFC and the playoffs,
- 19:26Speaker 4: and I lost two in a row.
- 19:27Speaker 6: So they're desperate.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and we know what desperate teams do, right.
- 19:30Speaker 3: We saw that against the forty nine ers. You expect
- 19:32Speaker 3: these guys to come out with a quarterback who, by
- 19:34Speaker 3: the way, has a Super Bowl win, right, Who knows
- 19:38Speaker 3: how important these games are. Yeah, it's a huge obstacle
- 19:43Speaker 3: for the Jaguars, and if they get over it, especially
- 19:45Speaker 3: with their quarterback, it sets up nicely for a Sunday
- 19:48Speaker 3: night showdown to get right back into the hunt on
- 19:50Speaker 3: this number one seed thing.
- 19:52Speaker 2: We got a couple of good games coming up. John,
- 19:53Speaker 2: I know you mentioned how well that Browns play at homes. Stefanski,
- 19:57Speaker 2: their head coach, was asked yesterday why he thinks they
- 20:00Speaker 2: play so well at home. He didn't quite have an answer,
- 20:02Speaker 2: but he did say likes to play in Cleveland.
- 20:05Speaker 13: I will tell you we like playing at home.
- 20:08Speaker 4: We do.
- 20:08Speaker 13: I like having our crowd into it. I like the
- 20:10Speaker 13: juice that it gives our defense. I like that it
- 20:13Speaker 13: makes life hard on the opposing offense. Having said that,
- 20:17Speaker 13: you know you still want to play good defense, good
- 20:19Speaker 13: offense on the road as well. But I do think
- 20:22Speaker 13: we have a very distinct home field advantage.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I think some of the things that benefit them at
- 20:27Speaker 2: home or seemed to be with the Jaguars feed off
- 20:29Speaker 2: of that crowd noise against them, kind of that you know,
- 20:32Speaker 2: prove them wrong mentality. So it will be interesting to
- 20:34Speaker 2: see which one comes out on top.
- 20:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I think sometimes it's fun to talk about. It's
- 20:39Speaker 5: fun to ask the coach. It's just like when people
- 20:42Speaker 5: asked Doug why the Jaguards are struggling at home. Well,
- 20:45Speaker 5: they didn't struggle at home last year. They were great
- 20:47Speaker 5: at home last year. It's not like they can't play
- 20:48Speaker 5: in EverBank Stadium. Sometimes I think it's just sort of circumstance.
- 20:53Speaker 5: Now the Browns, I think when you were a really
- 20:57Speaker 5: good defense and you get some weatherin but you're gonna
- 21:00Speaker 5: have in Cleveland, I think maybe that factors into a
- 21:03Speaker 5: little bit there. I don't necessarily think whether there's a
- 21:05Speaker 5: factor for the Jags here.
- 21:06Speaker 4: They're a takeaway team.
- 21:07Speaker 3: You know, if the Daggars are going to be in it,
- 21:08Speaker 3: they can't feed that defense in that crowd with Aaron
- 21:12Speaker 3: passes right, especially with CJ. Bether or putting the ball
- 21:15Speaker 3: on the ground. And this team, this Sprowns defense is
- 21:19Speaker 3: good at getting it out And yeah, the other thing
- 21:22Speaker 3: you think about the cold and the win. It's only
- 21:24Speaker 3: with thirty five thirty six degrees and wet, but that
- 21:26Speaker 3: wind can come off the lake and make it miserable,
- 21:29Speaker 3: make it feel a whole lot colder. So there's got
- 21:33Speaker 3: to be a focus on the football on Sunday.
- 21:35Speaker 6: Yeah, you do get the idea.
- 21:37Speaker 5: It's one of these games that if you see the
- 21:40Speaker 5: ball on the ground or a turnover in the first quarter,
- 21:44Speaker 5: you get one of those thinking feelings.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Katie bar the door. However, the flip side
- 21:48Speaker 3: is also true. Right with the quarterback who's playing his
- 21:50Speaker 3: second game and that's what Flacco is, and their offensive.
- 21:54Speaker 4: Line is playing with backup tackles.
- 21:56Speaker 3: There's an opportunity for this defense, which has twenty one takeaways,
- 22:00Speaker 3: to be able to go create a couple also to
- 22:02Speaker 3: use it to their advantage.
- 22:03Speaker 2: We don't entirely know who's going to be on the field,
- 22:05Speaker 2: but we do think it'll be a good game. Either way,
- 22:07Speaker 2: it's going to have big implications. So coming up after
- 22:10Speaker 2: this break, we're going to talk about who we think
- 22:11Speaker 2: will be playmakers in that game against the Browns.
- 22:24Speaker 10: Hello, I'm Dan Fields, and we have some great news.

- 24:09Speaker 8: Welcome back to jag Zam.
- 24:10Speaker 2: We're talking Cleveland game where you know, we got a
- 24:13Speaker 2: ton of injuries to talk about, but we're going to
- 24:15Speaker 2: talk about the players we do know our playing and
- 24:17Speaker 2: who we think might be playmakers for the Jaguars in
- 24:19Speaker 2: this matchup. Brian, who's someone you're looking at to make
- 24:21Speaker 2: a difference in the game.
- 24:22Speaker 3: I'm going with Josh Allen based on the way he
- 24:24Speaker 3: talked in the post game on Monday night.
- 24:26Speaker 4: I mean he stepped into the void.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Remember that was when no one knew anything about what
- 24:30Speaker 3: the quarterback was with his injury, and he stepped right
- 24:33Speaker 3: in there and took the mantle of leader of the
- 24:36Speaker 3: entire team, which is the quarterback's job, and said, we've
- 24:39Speaker 3: got to do this better. I've got to do that better.
- 24:41Speaker 3: You know, both sides of the ball. So I think
- 24:43Speaker 3: he will come out entirely motivated to back up his words.
- 24:47Speaker 3: He won't miss an opportunity because I believe he might
- 24:51Speaker 3: set the franchise records for sacks. It's fourteen and a
- 24:54Speaker 3: half held by Kalais Campbell. He has thirteen and a half.
- 24:58Speaker 3: I could see him working against backup tack, against a
- 25:01Speaker 3: quarterback who likes to stand tall in the pocket. I
- 25:03Speaker 3: could see him getting two sacks and setting the record.
- 25:06Speaker 3: He only needs one and a half.
- 25:09Speaker 8: I think he'll do it.
- 25:10Speaker 4: I think he might.
- 25:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I hope he does.
- 25:14Speaker 4: He's a great guy. Yeah.
- 25:16Speaker 5: I just had him on this week's ozone podcast, and
- 25:21Speaker 5: what a wonderful guy to be around. I mean, it's uh,
- 25:24Speaker 5: and you don't say that about every player you say
- 25:26Speaker 5: about every.
- 25:27Speaker 6: Co host, but.
- 25:29Speaker 5: But uh me, But yeah, you hope for success for
- 25:36Speaker 5: the guy given me on the team I went with
- 25:38Speaker 5: with Zay Jones, he will be a focal point of
- 25:43Speaker 5: the offense. I think he will play on the injury
- 25:45Speaker 5: report that I don't expect him to be a guy
- 25:48Speaker 5: who misses the game.
- 25:52Speaker 6: So that's that he won't he won't miss the game.
- 25:56Speaker 6: He will play, He won't miss the game, might do well.
- 25:59Speaker 6: It's a good point you got to put script.
- 26:03Speaker 4: I think he's key. I like that he.
- 26:12Speaker 5: With Christian Kirk out, Trevor Lawrence needs things he can
- 26:17Speaker 5: rely on. Uh. We all talked earlier in the season
- 26:20Speaker 5: about how Zay not being there was a big deal.
- 26:23Speaker 11: Uh.
- 26:23Speaker 5: As much as Trevor relies on Christian, he relies on
- 26:27Speaker 5: Zay in big situations. I think we saw that on Monday,
- 26:33Speaker 5: the chemistry between Trevor, Trevor plays, and Jay Jones. I
- 26:37Speaker 5: think we'll make up for for Christian Kirk's absence and
- 26:40Speaker 5: then free Calvin Ridley up. So I think Zay is uh.
- 26:44Speaker 5: There's a lot of guys you don't want to lose
- 26:46Speaker 5: the rest of the season with Christian out. To me,
- 26:51Speaker 5: Zay moves at the top of the list. I don't
- 26:52Speaker 5: know what they do offensively. If Zay and Christian aren't.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Well, Look, I think he might be that guy who
- 26:58Speaker 3: is the storyline for their run the rest of the way.
- 27:00Speaker 3: He's had a tough season right on the field, he
- 27:02Speaker 3: hasn't been on it enough because of the injury. Off
- 27:05Speaker 3: the field, we all know what he's been dealing with.
- 27:07Speaker 3: So for him now at this point to be in
- 27:09Speaker 3: a position John where he can rise and help his
- 27:12Speaker 3: team and help himself, I just he's the kind of
- 27:14Speaker 3: guy who generally rises to the challenge, so I'm anxious
- 27:18Speaker 3: to see if he can do that.
- 27:19Speaker 5: And every time they went to him the other night,
- 27:21Speaker 5: play yeah, I mean he takes advantage of his opportunities.
- 27:27Speaker 6: I'm with you. I think he's a big storyline the
- 27:28Speaker 6: rest this season.
- 27:30Speaker 2: I went with one of the young guys for my
- 27:32Speaker 2: pick this weekend with Parker Washington, because he's going to
- 27:34Speaker 2: play a big role in this game. But he won't
- 27:38Speaker 2: be Christian Kirk and he won't be Jamal Agnew. What
- 27:42Speaker 2: his role will be is not making mistakes and being
- 27:44Speaker 2: smart with the football. So he obviously he doesn't know
- 27:47Speaker 2: the offense as well as Christian Kirk does, because he
- 27:49Speaker 2: hasn't played as much as Christian Kirk. So I think
- 27:51Speaker 2: a lot of it will be, you know, getting time
- 27:54Speaker 2: in there, getting time understanding the plays, getting those first reps,
- 27:58Speaker 2: first team reps that he'll be getting now, and kind
- 28:00Speaker 2: of whether it's Trevor Lawrence or whether it's c. J. Bethert,
- 28:03Speaker 2: getting comfortable with who's throwing you the ball. And he
- 28:05Speaker 2: might pick up enough as this back end of the
- 28:08Speaker 2: season goes along, then he's going to play a big
- 28:10Speaker 2: role come playoff time, come the beginning of next year
- 28:13Speaker 2: as well.
- 28:14Speaker 3: I talked to him for my pregame radio interview yesterday
- 28:18Speaker 3: and he talked right along those lines of getting more
- 28:20Speaker 3: reps and figuring out what his role is. The touchdown
- 28:23Speaker 3: catch was dramatic, it was a great play on his part,
- 28:26Speaker 3: but his favorite play was the third down connection of
- 28:29Speaker 3: any where. He had to fight to dig that ball
- 28:33Speaker 3: out and fight with the Browns, the Bengals defensive back
- 28:37Speaker 3: to take it away and secure it. That's what he
- 28:39Speaker 3: wants to do for this team is make those contested catches,
- 28:43Speaker 3: which is what Christian did right move the chains. He
- 28:46Speaker 3: may not do it like Christian does it, but he's
- 28:48Speaker 3: willing to do it any way it takes to get
- 28:49Speaker 3: the result of Christian.
- 28:50Speaker 4: God.
- 28:51Speaker 5: Yeah, he's an interesting guy. Really didn't get opportunities an
- 28:55Speaker 5: opportunity till the other night. This team's been wait in
- 28:58Speaker 5: a while, frankly, to draft or receiver and have him develop.
- 29:02Speaker 5: They have a remarkable number of guys who have come in.
- 29:06Speaker 5: Did a great job stocking this receiving corps from a
- 29:08Speaker 5: free agency standpoint, but it's hard to build things in
- 29:12Speaker 5: this league doing that. Parker Washington very optimistic.
- 29:17Speaker 6: I am about him.
- 29:19Speaker 5: The way to play that quickly and to produce that
- 29:25Speaker 5: quickly in your first NFL opportunity, he might have something.
- 29:30Speaker 3: Well, they drafted him to be a Christian Kirk kind
- 29:32Speaker 3: of player, right. You know, you've got to have the
- 29:36Speaker 3: young when Christian's making twenty four million, you got to
- 29:39Speaker 3: have a guy who's making the minimum, and you got
- 29:40Speaker 3: to have a guy that can step in and fill
- 29:42Speaker 3: that role even if he's not the same player. And
- 29:45Speaker 3: that's why they drafted him. And whether people know this
- 29:48Speaker 3: or not, in his last year at Penn State, he
- 29:51Speaker 3: had a broken bone in his foot and he ran
- 29:53Speaker 3: slow when he was at the combine, which is why
- 29:57Speaker 3: he slid so far down the draft board. Guy that
- 30:00Speaker 3: a lot of people liked for the way he runs
- 30:03Speaker 3: his routes. He's got incredible feat If you watched him
- 30:06Speaker 3: at all during training camp, you saw that he and
- 30:09Speaker 3: he's powerful. You see his lower body. He is built,
- 30:11Speaker 3: and so he's got the ability to be a shifty,
- 30:14Speaker 3: middle of the field kind of receiver. And I'm with you, John,
- 30:17Speaker 3: I mean, I think when you look at this guy
- 30:18Speaker 3: two years from Nagaaney, like that was a really good
- 30:20Speaker 3: draft choice.
- 30:21Speaker 8: He's smart too.
- 30:22Speaker 2: I'm really excited to see kind of how he because
- 30:24Speaker 2: even the mistakes he made, excuse me, even the mistakes
- 30:26Speaker 2: he made against the Bengals, he's aware of that. And
- 30:28Speaker 2: I'm excited to see how he responds this week because
- 30:31Speaker 2: just how quickly you can become aware of how you
- 30:34Speaker 2: need to adapt the NFL game is a key part
- 30:37Speaker 2: of that, especially when you're a rookie. So that'll be
- 30:39Speaker 2: something to look forward to as well. All right, stay
- 30:41Speaker 2: with us coming up after the break, we'll do our
- 30:43Speaker 2: predictions for this Sunday as we get ready for that game.

- 32:39Speaker 1: We talked about getting a cart, and I was gonna
- 32:41Speaker 1: get a cart, and then I'm standing there and you know,
- 32:43Speaker 1: I'm already on the sideline at that point, the tunnels
- 32:45Speaker 1: right there.
- 32:46Speaker 4: I just wanted to get off the field, get out
- 32:47Speaker 4: of there.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I didn't know what was going on with my ankle,
- 32:49Speaker 1: and I felt like I could get off. I was like, hey,
- 32:50Speaker 1: you're good, just don't bring it out. I'm going in.
- 32:52Speaker 1: And then once I got in there, I'm like, this
- 32:54Speaker 1: is a pretty long walk, you know, but I was
- 32:56Speaker 1: already there, and they asked again if I wanted a cart.
- 32:58Speaker 1: I'm like, no, We're gonna make it.
- 32:59Speaker 4: The whole way there.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Know, there was cameras in the tunnel, you know, so
- 33:02Speaker 1: that's kind of they're everywhere exactly so, but no, it's
- 33:07Speaker 1: of course we have carts and we have everything we need.
- 33:09Speaker 1: And I was the one that didn't choose to take one,
- 33:13Speaker 1: you know, so I guess put that on me, and
- 33:15Speaker 1: maybe that was dumb, maybe I should have taken one. Whatever,
- 33:17Speaker 1: But it's nothing to do with us not having a
- 33:19Speaker 1: cart available. I don't think that would that would happen
- 33:22Speaker 1: in the National Football League, especially here with the with
- 33:24Speaker 1: the crew.
- 33:24Speaker 11: That we have.
- 33:25Speaker 8: So that's our answer to cartgate.
- 33:28Speaker 2: I know people were very concerned about Trevor not having
- 33:31Speaker 2: a cart to get onto.
- 33:32Speaker 3: And did anybody really believe that an NFL team would
- 33:36Speaker 3: not have a cart available? I mean, who really the
- 33:39Speaker 3: fact that Colin Coward, he knows that, he knows different,
- 33:42Speaker 3: he knows better.
- 33:42Speaker 4: Every team has that for both teams. I mean they
- 33:46Speaker 4: have everything on site.
- 33:48Speaker 3: And boy that the paramedic crew and they're good guys
- 33:51Speaker 3: and they're here every day of practice and they're right
- 33:53Speaker 3: by where I stand and I talk to him every day.
- 33:56Speaker 4: They were not happy. They were not happy.
- 33:59Speaker 2: I will explain a little geography for everybody too. The
- 34:02Speaker 2: where Trevor came off the field, their tunnels on the
- 34:04Speaker 2: opposite side, so that's where the cart was, and he's like,
- 34:06Speaker 2: I'm trying to get out of here, So he went
- 34:07Speaker 2: in the tunnel. He was closest too, and then as
- 34:10Speaker 2: he mentioned, once he got inside, he's like, oh wait,
- 34:11Speaker 2: this is farther than I thought. A little second thought there,
- 34:15Speaker 2: But as he mentioned, he wanted to walk, and I'm
- 34:18Speaker 2: not surprised he wanted to.
- 34:19Speaker 5: Players always want to walk on the field under their
- 34:22Speaker 5: own power.
- 34:23Speaker 8: If it says something when you take the car.
- 34:24Speaker 5: If they can, nobody wants to walk out on it.
- 34:27Speaker 5: I mean, nobody wants to write out on a cart
- 34:30Speaker 5: unless you have to. So it's sort of an NFL code.
- 34:34Speaker 5: Trevor is a tough guy. He's not gonna take the
- 34:36Speaker 5: car if he doesn't have to. So I thought, actually
- 34:40Speaker 5: the fact that he was able to walk even when
- 34:42Speaker 5: he was in pain was a terrific sign, because if
- 34:45Speaker 5: they had gone out and sensed anything, you have to
- 34:48Speaker 5: structural right, he would have been on that cart, so
- 34:51Speaker 5: it was taken weirdly. But to me the big picture,
- 34:55Speaker 5: even when as he was walking, I was like, this
- 34:56Speaker 5: is interesting because it's not as bad as at first
- 34:59Speaker 5: all if he's even doing that, if they thought there was.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Anything broken, but Cartgate was.
- 35:06Speaker 3: I mean all the attention that Colin Coward got from that, right,
- 35:09Speaker 3: I mean, that's what those guys do. They love it.
- 35:11Speaker 3: It's all in social media drives the outrage. He didn't
- 35:13Speaker 3: care what you say about him. He turns it off
- 35:15Speaker 3: at the end of the day. So but it drove
- 35:17Speaker 3: a lot of angst amongst good people who felt like
- 35:20Speaker 3: they were maligned.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Well, we'll all remember where we were during Cartgate, that's
- 35:24Speaker 2: for sure. Coming up for this game, I mean, does
- 35:27Speaker 2: Trevor play, Do the Jaguars win? Where are we at
- 35:29Speaker 2: on this? I know it's a little bit of a
- 35:30Speaker 2: guessing game still because it is Thursday, But.
- 35:32Speaker 5: My guess he plays. To me, it's tough to pick
- 35:37Speaker 5: him to win. I don't know how you got the
- 35:41Speaker 5: The reason I think they can and the hope for
- 35:44Speaker 5: me is they've been so good in this situation. Every
- 35:47Speaker 5: time you think they're not going to play well in
- 35:49Speaker 5: situation they do, and that.
- 35:52Speaker 6: Follows from Detroit last year.
- 35:53Speaker 5: Remember they got beating in Detroit and then reeled off
- 35:56Speaker 5: five in a row, went to Tennessee the next week
- 35:59Speaker 5: at getting railed by Detroit with Trevor hurt, and turn
- 36:04Speaker 5: the franchise around. So it's what they do under Doug.
- 36:08Speaker 5: For that reason, it's hard to pick against them. But boy,
- 36:11Speaker 5: these circumstances are tough. I guess I'm not picking. Maybe
- 36:14Speaker 5: I'm picking overtime.
- 36:15Speaker 3: Listen, if everyone else was healthy, if you knew where
- 36:17Speaker 3: the left tackle was, the defensive tackled, the nickel cornerback,
- 36:20Speaker 3: that's a big deal, right Yeah. I mean Trey Herndon
- 36:23Speaker 3: is a guy who you count on in the middle
- 36:24Speaker 3: of the defense, and they had communication issues and that's
- 36:28Speaker 3: one of the key guys. I mean, all those guys
- 36:30Speaker 3: are either not practicing or in the concussion protocol. It's
- 36:33Speaker 3: not just Trevor. If all those guys were able to play,
- 36:37Speaker 3: and you've got CJ. Bethert, I think I could pick
- 36:39Speaker 3: this team to win. But they're all question marks too,
- 36:42Speaker 3: so I don't think I can pick them to win yet.
- 36:44Speaker 3: There's just too many things. Can They sure absolutely will
- 36:48Speaker 3: they I don't know.
- 36:50Speaker 4: I just I don't know.
- 36:52Speaker 5: It's as tough a matchup, as tough as situation going
- 36:54Speaker 5: into it. Well, Francisco Philadelphia when play those teams off
- 37:01Speaker 5: as the topic, this is up there again.
- 37:04Speaker 6: I'll say it again. If they win this, I think
- 37:06Speaker 6: it's it's among the most impressive wins of the Doug
- 37:09Speaker 6: Peterson Air and it.
- 37:10Speaker 4: Sets up a huge showdown with the Ravens.
- 37:12Speaker 8: Sure does like football. Absolutely.
- 37:15Speaker 2: I have no idea what we're gonna see, but I'm
- 37:16Speaker 2: very excited to watch it. We hope you all enjoy
- 37:18Speaker 2: the game on Sunday whoever's out on the field, and
- 37:20Speaker 2: we'll be back here on jagxam on Monday to talk
- 37:22Speaker 2: about everything that goes down.
