Luna: Yes, but I always struggle to order. There are so many carts. Lucas: Exactly. So today we'll learn five key phrases. First: 'I want this one.' In Cantonese: 我要呢個. Luna: 我要呢個. Lucas: Perfect. 我要呢個. Use it when you point at a dish. Luna: So if I see har gow, I say 我要呢個. Lucas: Exactly. Now, what if you don't know what something is? Ask: 'What is this called?' 呢個叫咩名. Luna: 呢個叫咩名. That's helpful. Lucas: You try. Luna: 呢個叫咩名. Lucas: Great. The server might answer 'siu mai' or 'cheung fun'. Luna: Nice. Then I can say 我要呢個. Lucas: Right. Next, if you want one basket of something, say 我要一籠. A笼 is a steamer basket. Luna: 我要一籠. So like 我要一籠蝦餃. Lucas: Yes. 蝦餃 is har gow. 我要一籠蝦餃. Luna: Perfect. And always say 唔該 for please or thanks. Lucas: Exactly. 唔該 is your magic word. Before ordering, after, all the time. Luna: 唔該. Easy enough. Lucas: And finally, to ask the price: 幾多錢. Luna: 幾多錢. How much? Lucas: Right. 呢個幾多錢? How much is this? Luna: Oh, putting it together: 呢個叫咩名? Then 我要呢個. Then 幾多錢? Lucas: You got it. Let's practice a scene. I'm the server. Luna: Okay. Lucas: You see a basket of siu mai. What do you say? Luna: 呢個叫咩名? Lucas: I say: 燒賣. Luna: Ah, siu mai. 我要一籠. 唔該. Lucas: Perfect. Then ask the price. Luna: 幾多錢? Lucas: I say: 廿八蚊. Twenty-eight dollars. Luna: Great. So 我要一籠燒賣, 唔該. Lucas: See? Easy. Now let's review all five phrases. Luna: Please. Repeat them slowly. Lucas: Number one: 我要呢個. Luna: 我要呢個. Lucas: Number two: 呢個叫咩名. Luna: 呢個叫咩名. Lucas: Number three: 我要一籠.
