- 0:24Speaker 2: It's a young year here. Both the backs of winner.
- 0:26Speaker 1: By Moser, Lombardy and Kine.
- 0:31Speaker 2: You know, the Steelers are one of the best teams
- 0:33Speaker 2: in the league at managing the calf. That's why they
- 0:35Speaker 2: could surrender a fifth round pick and get Mike Williams
- 0:39Speaker 2: and a seventh round pick and get Preston Smith because
- 0:42Speaker 2: they can add those contracts even over the short term
- 0:46Speaker 2: easily because they manage the cap. You know, Baltimore manages
- 0:51Speaker 2: the calf great. That's when you can do whatever you want.
- 0:54Speaker 2: You can you can add sexy when you do the
- 0:58Speaker 2: non sexy thing like manage your salary. Chap is he

- 1:07Speaker 4: Let's get some sexy radio going with Jeff LEGWELLDESPN dot
- 1:10Speaker 4: Com Thursday.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Sexy dudes, I think.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Yeah, you know it, like you know it.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I have been said. I'll just say that.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Can I can I say words that I have been
- 1:27Speaker 4: berated by my two co hosts for the last two
- 1:29Speaker 4: days for suggesting this, and this is all I've said.
- 1:32Speaker 4: I think the game this weekend is a fifty to
- 1:34Speaker 4: fifty coin flip? Is that insane?
- 1:38Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:38Speaker 2: I guess the results of the season would say that's
- 1:43Speaker 2: not a real indication. I think the Chiefs remind me
- 1:49Speaker 2: of the Patriots when they had it going with Brady,
- 1:53Speaker 2: and that they expend exactly the amount of energy they
- 1:57Speaker 2: need to expend uh to get the win, and their
- 2:02Speaker 2: quarterbacks better than everyone else. And I guess the one
- 2:08Speaker 2: thing that would make it a fifty to fifty, even
- 2:11Speaker 2: though the Broncos have been torched by their backup a
- 2:13Speaker 2: few years ago, it would be if Mahomes really isn't
- 2:17Speaker 2: as healthy and able to move around as he says
- 2:20Speaker 2: he is. That would make it a different kind of game. Yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 2: so not totally insane, But this is like last year.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Everyone's ringing their hands about all the Chiefs don't look great.
- 2:30Speaker 2: All I know is they win all the games they
- 2:33Speaker 2: play for the most part.
- 2:35Speaker 3: And they're close games, and there is a skill that's
- 2:37Speaker 3: a skill, Jeff.
- 2:38Speaker 1: That's what I think.
- 2:39Speaker 3: I'm trying to impress that. The skill is when things
- 2:42Speaker 3: get tight, you loosen up, you're not tight, and that's
- 2:46Speaker 3: what that team does better than any team in the league.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Well, again, who's played more bigger games than he has
- 2:53Speaker 2: at quarterback. He's been in the biggest games in the
- 2:56Speaker 2: toughest places, and they just win. I mean, even the Broncos.
- 3:01Speaker 2: We all forget because of the trophy, the glare of
- 3:03Speaker 2: the trophy, but the twenty fifteen Broncos were masters of
- 3:07Speaker 2: the close game. They did nothing but win close games
- 3:11Speaker 2: that year. Even in the playoffs.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Spags is eleven and one against rookie quarterbacks. It's not
- 3:17Speaker 3: going to be easy. So paint for us as scenario
- 3:19Speaker 3: in which the Broncos win this game.
- 3:22Speaker 2: They have to manage their pressure that Spagnola is from
- 3:26Speaker 2: the Jim Johnson tree of defensive play call and Johnson
- 3:30Speaker 2: was a long time coordinator in Philadelphia and during his
- 3:36Speaker 2: time he was the most aggressive defensive play caller in
- 3:40Speaker 2: the league when that was not a vogue thing, and
- 3:44Speaker 2: Spagnola studied under him. His variety of pressures is some
- 3:50Speaker 2: of the best in the league. Bow Knicks will see
- 3:54Speaker 2: a lot of things he has not really seen played
- 3:59Speaker 2: with a fish and see and you know, they don't
- 4:02Speaker 2: make mistakes. It's easy to be aggressive and then have
- 4:05Speaker 2: coverage busts all over the place. But they're aggressive and
- 4:09Speaker 2: they don't make mistakes. They get you to throw the
- 4:11Speaker 2: ball where you want, where they want.
- 4:13Speaker 1: You to run up. So what you're telling me then,
- 4:17Speaker 1: I mean you're talking about eight to No. This is
- 4:18Speaker 1: a a top five defense in terms of yards allowed,
- 4:21Speaker 1: but it's still a top ten offense Jeff, yards wise
- 4:25Speaker 1: and scoring wise. I mean, to me, it still looks
- 4:27Speaker 1: like the kids, even though they may not optically appear
- 4:30Speaker 1: to be what they were even in a Super Bowl
- 4:32Speaker 1: win last year. It just there's still the Kansas City Chiefs,
- 4:36Speaker 1: that's what you're saying.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah, No, I mean they have the championship swagger right.
- 4:43Speaker 2: You know. Again, our modern version is of the dynasty
- 4:47Speaker 2: as the Patriots, and one year they are many years
- 4:52Speaker 2: they were wide open, no huddle, five wide. Some years
- 4:56Speaker 2: they were too tight end. Some years they asked Brave
- 5:00Speaker 2: to hand the ball off a lot. Some years they
- 5:02Speaker 2: asked Brady to run it all and all they did
- 5:05Speaker 2: was win. However, they had to, and that's where the
- 5:08Speaker 2: Chiefs are. They win however they have to. They've had
- 5:12Speaker 2: injuries at wide receiver, doesn't matter, They've had things not
- 5:17Speaker 2: go well at times during games, doesn't matter. You know,
- 5:21Speaker 2: Mahomes has had moments where you know, he looks like
- 5:24Speaker 2: he's non in tune with the with the guys that
- 5:26Speaker 2: are on the field because they keep moving people in
- 5:29Speaker 2: and on the lineup and when the game's on the line,
- 5:32Speaker 2: it doesn't matter. And Hopkins changes their offense a little bit.
- 5:37Speaker 2: That was a really good addition on their part. He
- 5:41Speaker 2: will have significant impact for them the rest of the way.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Put Sean Payton on the sideline for that Monday night game.
- 5:46Speaker 3: If the Broncos go in and close to a point
- 5:50Speaker 3: in the final seconds, does Sean Payton go for two
- 5:52Speaker 3: or go to overtime?
- 5:55Speaker 1: Oh?
- 5:55Speaker 2: You know what, that's an excellent question. Now. He answered
- 6:00Speaker 2: that yesterday by saying, you got to look at how
- 6:02Speaker 2: your team's playing. You know, he used an example of
- 6:08Speaker 2: kicking a field goal when he was the Saints coach
- 6:10Speaker 2: one time because he said the left tackle was getting
- 6:12Speaker 2: hammered that day. So I think if he felt like
- 6:16Speaker 2: they were playing well, he'd go for it, and if
- 6:19Speaker 2: he felt like they weren't reliable moving the ball, they
- 6:23Speaker 2: probably kick it.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Heard Mike Sanford come up with a stat yesterday that
- 6:27Speaker 4: is pretty surprising in just wondering what you think of
- 6:30Speaker 4: this that bow Nicks is second in the NFL in
- 6:33Speaker 4: plays of twenty yards or more, only behind Lamar Jackson.
- 6:36Speaker 4: What do you make of that.
- 6:39Speaker 2: They're near last in the NFL plays of thirty yards
- 6:42Speaker 2: or more. So I'd say they're right in the I'd
- 6:46Speaker 2: say they're right in the rectangle I've been talking about
- 6:48Speaker 2: all year. They're playing offense in a rectangle right right now,
- 6:52Speaker 2: roughly zero to twenty yards from the line of scrimmage. So, uh,
- 6:57Speaker 2: you know, I think it's just a factor of him
- 7:00Speaker 2: running a lot as well as a solution which a
- 7:04Speaker 2: young guy is gonna do. You know he is. I
- 7:07Speaker 2: believe he's twenty eighth and yards per completion, So that
- 7:11Speaker 2: does not translate to a lot of big plays in
- 7:13Speaker 2: the passing game.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Which defense is better between these two.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Right now? I think that the Chiefs have played more
- 7:22Speaker 2: consistently at their best. I think the Broncos have been better,
- 7:25Speaker 2: if that makes sense, sure, that's I think that I
- 7:29Speaker 2: think the Ravens found a backup safety last week. You
- 7:32Speaker 2: know that that was a big ask for Devon Key
- 7:37Speaker 2: in that game, and the Ravens wasted no time, you know,
- 7:41Speaker 2: going after that. Some teams don't do that anymore. It's
- 7:45Speaker 2: the old we're gonna do what we're gonna do. But
- 7:47Speaker 2: the Ravens are kind of old school. They went right
- 7:49Speaker 2: after the player they thought they could get. And I
- 7:52Speaker 2: was a little surprised the Broncos because they had done
- 7:55Speaker 2: it in practice. I was a little surprised they did
- 7:58Speaker 2: not simply match certan on on Flowers and take their
- 8:03Speaker 2: chances with everybody else.
- 8:04Speaker 3: His PG lock available to play this Sunday practice fully yesterday.
- 8:09Speaker 2: I think that that sort of translates to by the
- 8:12Speaker 2: time we get to Sunday, you probably have some kind
- 8:15Speaker 2: of cast or something on his hand. He was practicing
- 8:18Speaker 2: with a big rap yesterday.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I Brett raised a very good question, or it might
- 8:24Speaker 1: have been Vic. I don't know, but it was earlier
- 8:26Speaker 1: in the show that at five and three. If the
- 8:29Speaker 1: Broncos don't they're in a playoff spot right now. But
- 8:32Speaker 1: if they don't make it, is it going to be
- 8:33Speaker 1: a disappointing season? And Jeff, I guess they're further along
- 8:37Speaker 1: than I thought they were going to be. I didn't
- 8:38Speaker 1: think they would be five and three. Is it fair
- 8:40Speaker 1: if they if they don't make it to be a
- 8:43Speaker 1: little bit disappointed because they had it in their hands
- 8:46Speaker 1: and they control their own destiny.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Well in that regard, I guess, because I mean there
- 8:52Speaker 2: is some openings now in the AFC at the back
- 8:54Speaker 2: end of the playoff chase, because not a lot of
- 8:57Speaker 2: the teams are pretty much you know, rich or poor.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Time in the a f C, the the good teams
- 9:04Speaker 2: are really good and everybody else is is kind of struggling.
- 9:08Speaker 2: But uh, I would say until the Broncos beat somebody
- 9:12Speaker 2: you know, who's who's in the in the higher weight classes,
- 9:17Speaker 2: I'm not sure you can say they're ahead of schedule
- 9:19Speaker 2: yet they I think they have two wins or three
- 9:22Speaker 2: wins over teams with two two victories, so uh, you know,
- 9:27Speaker 2: and I don't know that they have a win over
- 9:30Speaker 2: anybody with a winning record right now. I mean I
- 9:32Speaker 2: think Tampa's four for yeah, so they haven't beaten anybody,
- 9:39Speaker 2: you know in the higher weight classes as it were,
- 9:42Speaker 2: and I think had they if they do that once
- 9:45Speaker 2: or twice and don't make the playoffs, then you're kind
- 9:47Speaker 2: of like wow that you know that one kind of
- 9:50Speaker 2: got away from them because they there is a chance
- 9:53Speaker 2: even for them right now at the at the back
- 9:56Speaker 2: end of the wild card race.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Uh, can I ask that another way and a question
- 9:59Speaker 4: that I'm sure you're gonna hate. If they win this weekend,
- 10:01Speaker 4: do you think their playoff team?
- 10:04Speaker 2: Well, I think that gives you a little more fuel
- 10:06Speaker 2: to say you're more than a one week playoff team.
- 10:11Speaker 2: I mean, right now, if they made the playoffs, I'm
- 10:14Speaker 2: not sure they're going on the road and taking on anybody,
- 10:17Speaker 2: you know, with until they can find some more pop offense.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Their their defense is just under the microscope all the time.
- 10:27Speaker 2: They have to come up with so many stops, you know,
- 10:31Speaker 2: over and over again, and when they don't, look that's
- 10:36Speaker 2: what the game like Baltimore looks like the defense had
- 10:39Speaker 2: a tough day. And where's the safety net when that happens?
- 10:43Speaker 2: Right now that the Broncos don't have one.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Can I go back to last week? Oh sorry, mouch,
- 10:47Speaker 4: just let me get this out real quick.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Yeah, no problem, ohay, go ahead. I was just gonna say,
- 10:51Speaker 1: bridge up. This guy is so funny to me. I mean,
- 10:53Speaker 1: this guy is hysterical. He's been pushing this narrative now
- 10:56Speaker 1: for a couple of days. Is fifty to fifty and
- 10:58Speaker 1: all this kind of stuff. You shall we disreptentially, but
- 11:01Speaker 1: now definitely if the Broncos win on Sunday. I mean,
- 11:05Speaker 1: this guy is a piece of work, is he not?
- 11:06Speaker 3: He six and four?
- 11:09Speaker 1: Understood that, Okay, understood that. But you're you're putting these
- 11:12Speaker 1: different wedges into your argument and you're trying to move
- 11:15Speaker 1: that rock up hill, and I just I can't do it.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I don't know. Jeff, thank god you're not on tomorrow
- 11:20Speaker 1: because it's gonna be crazy. I'm sure.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Well, well, let me follow this up with something else.
- 11:24Speaker 4: I want to go back to last week's game. So
- 11:26Speaker 4: I think we all sat here and we said, you
- 11:28Speaker 4: know what, a blowout in Baltimore's a possibility because Baltimore
- 11:31Speaker 4: is just crazy offensively and it's going to be a
- 11:33Speaker 4: track meet. Can you keep up sort of thing?
- 11:35Speaker 1: They couldn't. But it's funny.
- 11:37Speaker 4: We all got to the show on Monday, none of
- 11:40Speaker 4: us were super upset, and we pointed out, hey, if
- 11:43Speaker 4: you get that throw on fourth and four to Troy Franklin,
- 11:46Speaker 4: I think the game changes a lot in the way
- 11:48Speaker 4: that that that looks. Do you buy into that that
- 11:52Speaker 4: early in that game, a couple of plays they missed,
- 11:54Speaker 4: a missed fourth down misthrowing the end zone to Franklin,
- 11:58Speaker 4: that the game could have been a lot more competitive
- 12:01Speaker 4: and a lot more of a chance to win had
- 12:03Speaker 4: you executed earlier, because once that happened, Baltimore scored a
- 12:07Speaker 4: couple of touchdowns.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Just sprint it away with it.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Well, I mean, that's how you know they're not quite ready,
- 12:14Speaker 2: because they don't rebound from early mistakes. They don't rebound
- 12:17Speaker 2: from early you know, failed connections. You know, they they
- 12:23Speaker 2: don't keep slugging it out again. If their defense doesn't
- 12:27Speaker 2: play at an elite level right now, they don't have
- 12:29Speaker 2: a safety net against anybody who's any good on offense.
- 12:33Speaker 2: And that's a lot to ask. But from a even
- 12:36Speaker 2: twenty fifteen we all look back on that as one
- 12:41Speaker 2: of the best Bronco defenses ever. They gave up thirty
- 12:44Speaker 2: four to the Steelers in one game that year, and
- 12:48Speaker 2: they gave up you know, twenty four a couple times
- 12:51Speaker 2: that year. You can't hold everybody down every week in
- 12:55Speaker 2: the NFL, no matter how good you are on defense,
- 12:59Speaker 2: and when that happens, the good teams have a response.
- 13:03Speaker 2: And the Broncos are at this point in you know,
- 13:07Speaker 2: salary cat misery and offensive development are and a rookie
- 13:11Speaker 2: quarterback who's trying to do all he can just to
- 13:15Speaker 2: survive in the deep end of the pool. Uh, that's
- 13:19Speaker 2: asking a lot. And they don't have that safety that
- 13:22Speaker 2: right now. If if the defense doesn't have that great day,
- 13:27Speaker 2: you know, how do they win a game right now?
- 13:28Speaker 2: I'm not sure they do.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Have you ever read a National geographic cover to cover?
- 13:36Speaker 2: Not recently, but yes, okay, just.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Testing because our co host here, that's.
- 13:44Speaker 2: That's like an age test. Really, you know, have you
- 13:46Speaker 2: read National? That's like you've either been to a lot
- 13:49Speaker 2: of doctors' offices or you're you're an ulcer.
- 13:51Speaker 1: You know what it has. I don't know what I wish.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna break my appointment during the break. I'm done,
- 13:57Speaker 1: I'm out, I'm out of here. I love you, Leggy
- 14:01Speaker 1: hey Man. This one about the tomb of Saint Peter
- 14:04Speaker 1: is really really good.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Dude, are you at the dentist right now in the show.
- 14:09Speaker 1: I'm I'm in Winnipeg. Bro, Bro, I'm in Winnipeg.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Been there, and that's the only time you want to
- 14:18Speaker 4: be there. I'm sure. Jeff Lakewell, the ESPN I.

- 14:23Speaker 4: I'm not embarrassed, Jeff, the USPN I com thank you, buddy,
