- 0:00Speaker 1: A man has been charged with ten counts of attempted murder.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Thirty two year old Anthony Williams from Peterborough is expected
- 0:09Speaker 1: to appear in court later this morning in Peterborough. Now
- 0:12Speaker 1: he's also been charged with one count of actual bodily
- 0:15Speaker 1: harm and one count of possession of a bladed article.
- 0:18Speaker 1: This is all after the train attack from Doncaster to
- 0:22Speaker 1: King's Cross. British Transport Police say that charge of actual
- 0:25Speaker 1: bodily harm is related to an assault on a police
- 0:29Speaker 1: officer in a custody suite after the incident there. In Huntington,
- 0:34Speaker 1: Police also say that Anthony Williams is being charged with
- 0:37Speaker 1: an additional count of attempted murder and possession of a
- 0:40Speaker 1: bladed article in relation to another incident, this in London's
- 0:46Speaker 1: Dockland Light Railway the DLR network early hours of Saturday.
- 0:52Speaker 1: While the train of the stabbing attack took place on
- 0:56Speaker 1: has this morning been moved from the platform platform to
- 0:59Speaker 1: their Huntington station. It's been stationary there at that station obviously,
- 1:04Speaker 1: police and forensic teams spent much of the weekend gathering
- 1:07Speaker 1: evidence there and now for the first time that train,
- 1:11Speaker 1: as you can see on the move out of the station. Well,
- 1:14Speaker 1: the member of train staff, who has been described as
- 1:16Speaker 1: a hero, is now a critical but stable condition in hospital.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Five people remain in hospital. On the Transport Sectory Hide
- 1:26Speaker 1: Alexander has paid tribute to the train staff.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah. So, British Transport Police currently have one suspect detained.
- 1:34Speaker 2: They are continuing their investigations. They arrested him within eight
- 1:38Speaker 2: minutes of the first emergency call coming in on Saturday
- 1:42Speaker 2: night in Huntingdon and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I would like to pay tribute to the response of
- 1:52Speaker 2: the emergency services, but also the passengers who were on
- 1:56Speaker 2: board that service. I can't begin to imagine what it
- 1:59Speaker 2: would have been like to have been on that train.
- 2:02Speaker 2: But also the response of the railway staff, the train
- 2:07Speaker 2: driver who had the presence of mind to phone the
- 2:11Speaker 2: signalers in Network Rail and get the train onto that
- 2:15Speaker 2: slowline into Huntingdon station and a place of safety. But
- 2:19Speaker 2: also the individual that you refer to their Sally, who
- 2:23Speaker 2: is a member of the lner on board train crew.
- 2:28Speaker 2: He is in hospital in a critical but stable condition
- 2:33Speaker 2: and the bravery that he showed was utterly remarkable. He
- 2:37Speaker 2: went to work on Saturday morning to do his job,
- 2:41Speaker 2: and he left work a hero because he put himself
- 2:45Speaker 2: in harm's way. And there are people who are alive
- 2:48Speaker 2: today who wouldn't be alive had it not been for
- 2:53Speaker 2: his actions. And so I want to say a very
- 2:57Speaker 2: very big thank you to him personally and to express
- 3:01Speaker 2: my best wishes to him and his family.
- 3:05Speaker 3: We've seen some horrific images, haven't we, from the incident
- 3:09Speaker 3: over the weekend. You know, it was clearly a terrifying situation,
- 3:13Speaker 3: but as you mentioned, it could actually have been so
- 3:16Speaker 3: much worse.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Indeed, and I think the swift response of the onboard
- 3:26Speaker 2: train staff and the driver, and I think in those
- 3:29Speaker 2: moments of huge pressure and huge stress, we all like
- 3:34Speaker 2: to think that we would behave in the way that
- 3:37Speaker 2: those individuals behaved on that train, But to have the
- 3:40Speaker 2: presence of mind that they did in order to be
- 3:43Speaker 2: able to reduce the harm that was inflicted on passengers
- 3:48Speaker 2: on that train, it would have been absolutely terrifying. I
- 3:52Speaker 2: do understand that I read the accounts of people yesterday
- 3:55Speaker 2: who were on that train with children, some hiding in
- 3:59Speaker 2: the toilet cubacres, some moving to other carriages to try
- 4:03Speaker 2: and find a place to safety, a place of safety.
- 4:05Speaker 2: But I do want to say a massive thank you
- 4:08Speaker 2: to everyone who was involved in responding to this incident.
- 4:13Speaker 2: There were eight minutes between those first emergency calls coming
- 4:16Speaker 2: in and the individual being arrested at Huntington Station. The BTP,
- 4:22Speaker 2: the British Transport Police are working around the clock to
- 4:25Speaker 2: make sure that no stone is left unturned in working
- 4:28Speaker 2: out exactly what has happened here, and I would like
- 4:32Speaker 2: to thank the staff at the British Transport Police for
- 4:34Speaker 2: all the hours that they've put in since this incident
- 4:37Speaker 2: happened on Saturday night.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So as hider Alexander, there're speaking to my colleagues on
- 4:41Speaker 1: BBC Breakfast and I spoke to Amy Cole, our reporter
- 4:45Speaker 1: at Huntington Station for the latest.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Train that has been on the platform here on the
- 4:53Speaker 4: tracks here since Saturday, that has been moved off. Detectives
- 4:58Speaker 4: will continue to gather ever, this is still a crime scene.
- 5:01Speaker 4: It is closed. You will see the Odd service, the
- 5:04Speaker 4: Odd train going past, but it's still closed to passengers
- 5:09Speaker 4: at the moment while investigations continue, and this is being
- 5:13Speaker 4: described as very complex investigation. Eleven people were injured, including
- 5:19Speaker 4: that railway staff member, and we've been hearing this morning
- 5:21Speaker 4: from the Transport Secretary Hidi Alexander, who's been giving an
- 5:25Speaker 4: update saying that he is in a critical but stable condition,
- 5:29Speaker 4: and she has been praising his bravery and his actions.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Now we understand that this was a high speed service
- 5:37Speaker 4: to London and it was due to the quick thinking
- 5:41Speaker 4: of the train driver, Andrew Johnson and alerting the controllers
- 5:45Speaker 4: that they were able to guide the train into this
- 5:48Speaker 4: smaller station which has a slow track, and that meant
- 5:51Speaker 4: that it was easier for the train to come to
- 5:53Speaker 4: a standstill, allowing for the emergency services to quickly get
- 5:57Speaker 4: on board and for the passengers to DISSI. Now, if
- 6:00Speaker 4: that hadn't happened, the train could have ended up in
- 6:03Speaker 4: the middle of nowhere with the emergency services find it
- 6:06Speaker 4: very difficult to access. Many of the stabbings took place,
- 6:11Speaker 4: we're told, in the middle of the train, forcing people
- 6:14Speaker 4: to flee to either end of the carriages and what
- 6:17Speaker 4: must have been a totally terrifying ordeal for them. The
- 6:22Speaker 4: London North Eastern Railway line is one of the country's
- 6:25Speaker 4: main arteries and there will be questions for authorities about
- 6:30Speaker 4: its funderability and that of other major routes. We know
- 6:34Speaker 4: today that there is increased security at some of the
- 6:37Speaker 4: country's major transport hubs as police looked to offer reassurance
- 6:43Speaker 4: to passengers. We're told that overall, this incident could have
- 6:46Speaker 4: been a lot worse had it not been for the
- 6:49Speaker 4: bravery of some of those passengers and the railway staff
- 6:53Speaker 4: on board.
