- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Do you? Ever find yourself?
- 0:41Feeling a real. Sense of impulse, like an idea
- 0:45will pop into your head and then suddenly you have to do that
- 0:48thing. And here's the interesting thing
- 0:51about impulses. They don't last very long.
- 0:55In most supermarkets. They will have the chocolates,
- 0:58the candy, right by the checkout because people will, on an
- 1:03impulse, buy something and they will pay for it if there is
- 1:08minimal friction. But they're not willing to go
- 1:11one minute and go to the aisle and buy the same thing.
- 1:15And a lot of people have this belief that somehow they are
- 1:20beholden to their impulses and their cravings.
- 1:23And that's not true at all. Impulses are fleeting.
- 1:27There is a short desire that doesn't last very long, and then
- 1:31it fades away very, very quickly.
- 1:34And this hypnosis session is all about empowering the client that
- 1:38I worked with. But now you listening to this to
- 1:41feel more in control of your impulses, that you can
- 1:45acknowledge an impulse, A craving, a thought, but not need
- 1:50to do anything about it. And there's various metaphors
- 1:54and techniques used in this session.
- 1:56But at its. Core, it's about thinking about
- 2:00what kind of person you really want to be and what quality of
- 2:03life you actually want from that.
- 2:07And the key thing is. Is to think.
- 2:09About what's going to give you a better quality of life.
- 2:13Impulses generally are fuelled by short term gratification and
- 2:17dopamine hits, whereas what really gives you a sense of
- 2:20pride is having the version of you that you want to be closer
- 2:25to, the version of you that you actually are.
- 2:27And that's really the definition of self esteem, the contrast
- 2:30between the ideal version of yourself and the current version
- 2:33of yourself based on your perceived values.
- 2:37So if someone values wealth and they're just as wealthy as their
- 2:41ideal version, they're going to have very high self esteem.
- 2:44But it might be body shape, it might be something else.
- 2:47It's your values now. This session is all about really
- 2:51fuelling that kind of long term commitment, that discipline.
- 2:55To break free. Of those impulses, but it was
- 2:58created for an individual. Therefore, some of the.
- 3:00Suggestions are going to sound. Pretty specific because that's.
- 3:04The client that I was working with.
- 3:06So just ignore any suggestions that don't fit with what you're
- 3:09looking for and hone into those ones that do.
- 3:12And if you do like the idea of working with me directly to have
- 3:16a bespoke customize session just for you, there will be a link in
- 3:20the show notes where you can schedule a completely free
- 3:22consultation call. We'll chat over Zoom and who
- 3:25knows, we might end up working together.
- 3:27For now, though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 3:30won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:04Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:14slow, long, relaxing breath. And as you exhale, feel that
- 4:22wonderful feeling of release, as if your mind can just slow down,
- 4:30as if thoughts are just thoughts and a breath is just a breath.
- 4:38And as you exhale, continue to release any worries, any doubts
- 4:47and any fears, and start to breathe in a feeling of clarity,
- 4:55of deep self trust, of a feeling that things are rarely right or
- 5:04wrong, true or false. That most things exist in the
- 5:13Shades of Grey. And the moment you bring nuance,
- 5:23with it comes discernment evaluations.
- 5:31And in doing so, you get to dial down intrusive thoughts that
- 5:38become compulsive emotions. So as you breathe in that calm
- 5:45confidence and clarity, and exhale those feelings of doubts,
- 5:53worries, perhaps even thoughts from the past that no longer
- 6:00serve, you feel a cleansing happening.
- 6:07That it's now safe and OK to let go and to reawaken that feeling
- 6:15of trust and confidence that you're wiser now than you've
- 6:22ever been. Breathing in that relaxation,
- 6:27exhaling that tension. And as you breathe out, allow
- 6:33your body to relax even more, noticing the muscles in your
- 6:41face, your shoulders, your hands, unwinding, releasing.
- 6:49In fact, set the intention to relax your skin on your face,
- 6:55there on your forehead, in your cheeks, because the only way you
- 7:00can relax the skin is by relaxing the muscles beneath
- 7:05them, breathing in relaxation, exhaling tension.
- 7:13And as you exhale, just let go of everything that doesn't
- 7:17belong to this moment. Because here, right now, there
- 7:28is nothing you have to do, nothing to resist, just an
- 7:34opportunity to observe so your mind can begin to drift to that
- 7:43state of quiet awareness. The state where thoughts may
- 7:49calm and go, but you remain in the centre.
- 7:56Like the calm depth of the ocean, where surface waves
- 8:02ripple and crash, yet far below, it's always peaceful.
- 8:11In the past you've been the waves, but now you are that calm
- 8:18depth and the thoughts not You are just waves.
- 8:29As your body relaxes, your imagination awakens and I wonder
- 8:35if you can imagine walking into a bright, spacious showroom.
- 8:42Polished floors with shiny lights reflecting off beautiful
- 8:46cars. And these cars can represent a
- 8:54thought, a desire, perhaps even a doubt.
- 9:03Some appealing, some strange, some powerful, some unnecessary.
- 9:11And as you walk around this car showroom, you notice how easy it
- 9:17is to be drawn to 1, to look closer, to imagine what it might
- 9:25feel like to take it for a drive.
- 9:30But you also know that just because the car looks desirable
- 9:38doesn't mean it's a good decision to own it.
- 9:44Some have hidden problems beneath the paintwork, engine
- 9:50faults, bad history, high maintenance.
- 9:57And you smile to yourself because you realize that your
- 10:03mind works the same way. Thoughts are just models on
- 10:10display, and you can admire one without buying it.
- 10:17You can acknowledge it without taking it home, and you can
- 10:22observe beauty without losing discernment because you are the
- 10:29one walking through the showroom.
- 10:33You are not the car, not the salesman, and not the impulse.
- 10:38You are the observer, the chooser, the driver, and as you
- 10:47look through this impressive showroom, it dawns on you, even
- 10:54if these cars look good, none of them would be a better choice
- 11:01than the one you already have. And sometimes it's good to make
- 11:08that evaluation so you feel grateful for what you have
- 11:15because you can see something and not want it or want it but
- 11:21not buy it. All the choices are yours.
- 11:32And there you are in that showroom.
- 11:35It dawns on you that thoughts can be anything.
- 11:40The thoughts of desire, a thought of fear, a strange
- 11:47random image, a memory, a fantasy, a worry.
- 11:55But they don't define who you are, They don't reveal your true
- 12:02self. They're simply tiny electrical
- 12:07impulses in the mind, just data passing through consciousness,
- 12:16often showing symbols and representations of things you
- 12:19already know. And I want you to imagine, just
- 12:26to prove that thoughts can be anything.
- 12:30I want you to imagine a multi coloured Penguin dancing in the
- 12:35corner of the room. You decide the colours and you
- 12:44decide how that Penguin dances. And you can even give a voice to
- 12:51that Penguin. And just because you can think
- 12:57something doesn't mean it's true.
- 13:01It doesn't even mean that it matters.
- 13:07It doesn't need a narrative, a meaning, an explanation.
- 13:13It's just a thought. And if a dancing multi coloured
- 13:20Penguin can be a thought, anything can be a thought.
- 13:27And what if the thoughts weren't the issue, but the meaning?
- 13:32You give those thoughts because you've thought some things in
- 13:37the past that made you feel guilty or create doubt.
- 13:44That could start off a loop or a worry, but these are built on
- 13:54the foundation of sand. The moment that you realize
- 14:02thoughts are just thoughts, and that you decide the meaning, any
- 14:08of those emotions can disappear, to evaporate, to dissolve, to
- 14:18become nothing. From this moment on, any or
- 14:27every time an intrusive thought appears, just know that it's
- 14:34just a thought, not a truth. That it doesn't mean anything,
- 14:40that it can just be noise. And your job is to discern of
- 14:47all the things that you think, which thoughts are useful, which
- 14:53ones require your attention. Imagine walking through a busy
- 14:59city, people trying to sell things, adverts.
- 15:10I want you to get a sense that there would be so many
- 15:14distractions, so many people vying for your attention, just
- 15:19like your thoughts. But you get to decide where your
- 15:26attention goes, and in that busy city street it would be the most
- 15:34outrageous or most emotive things that were said that might
- 15:40get your attention. The same is true with your
- 15:45thoughts. You think of a million thoughts
- 15:49a day, but most of them carry no emotion with them, and so
- 15:56they're quickly forgotten. But only the ones that are seen
- 16:00as wrong, as bad as not allowed, create enough emotion to fall on
- 16:12your radar. But when thoughts aren't the
- 16:16issue, and even emotions aren't the issue, and only behaviour
- 16:20and decisions matter, then you get to dial down all of the
- 16:28emotional intensity as thoughts are just thoughts and emotions
- 16:34are always temporary because the mind produces the thoughts.
- 16:42But only you get to choose the meaning.
- 16:48You choose which thoughts to entertain, which to release and
- 16:54which to ignore entirely. And I wonder if you could
- 17:02imagine, just for a moment, an old fashioned radio.
- 17:09Perhaps you remember the ones with the big antennae and the
- 17:13dial to tune in to frequencies. I wonder if you could imagine
- 17:19that your mind is like a radio, constantly tuning and looking
- 17:25for frequencies, and each station represents a theme,
- 17:30maybe attraction or doubt, a memory or curiosity, but you get
- 17:36to tune in or tune out. When you tune in to your
- 17:42ambitions, your desires, your plans, your goals, you notice
- 17:48more alignment and more fulfilment.
- 17:53But if you happen to tune into your fears, your doubts, your
- 17:56worries, your insecurities, that can create loops where you get
- 18:03stuck on a channel. But you can TuneIn and you can
- 18:10tune out. And the old pattern was like
- 18:17being stuck on one of those stations, perhaps of comparison
- 18:21or noticing, judging or comparing, wondering if
- 18:26something or someone might be more exciting, more beautiful,
- 18:31more new. But comparison is a thief of joy
- 18:37and presence. It distracts you from the
- 18:41richness that already exists in your life.
- 18:47So imagine dialing that radio in to a new frequency, the
- 18:52frequency of gratitude and appreciation, and maybe you
- 18:59begin to notice the depth, the beauty, the uniqueness, all of
- 19:05the wonderful qualities in your partner, the small gestures, the
- 19:10warmth, the connection, and maybe you come to the
- 19:15conclusion. But intimacy, not gratification,
- 19:24isn't found in novelty. It's found in real connection.
- 19:31And the deeper you go, the richer that connection becomes.
- 19:38And the more you invest of your time, energy, and emotions, the
- 19:42more you receive. And as you relax even more
- 19:50deeply now, you might sense that there's a part of you.
- 19:56A part that sometimes feels restless, impulsive, curious, or
- 20:04compulsive. Perhaps a part that used to use
- 20:10porn or fantasy to meet an emotional need.
- 20:14Maybe for excitement, for variety, or perhaps to escape a
- 20:22substitute for real connection. And I want you to imagine
- 20:27inviting that part forward. Imagine you're in a small room
- 20:33and you invite that part free of judgement, just to be
- 20:40understood. I want that part responsible for
- 20:46intrusive thoughts or compulsive behaviours.
- 20:48Is there in the room? Let me know about nodding your
- 20:52head. And I want you to thank that
- 20:58part not for its behaviour, its thoughts or emotions, but for
- 21:06its positive intention, that even before you know what that
- 21:10positive intention is, you know it comes from a good place.
- 21:15And when that part accepts your gratitude, your appreciation for
- 21:24the intention, then ask that part what it was really trying
- 21:32to do for you, and perhaps is to help you feel alive, to help you
- 21:44feel free, to help you feel wanted, to protect you or to
- 21:50connect you. So again, thank that part for
- 21:54its intention and not its method, because this part was
- 21:59never the problem. It's just a messenger.
- 22:05And now that you've grown, you can meet those same needs in
- 22:10more meaningful ways. You can feel alive through
- 22:19connection, you can feel free through self-control, and you
- 22:27can feel wanted through authenticity and openness.
- 22:34And that part no longer needs to pull you towards old habits
- 22:40because you've evolved beyond them.
- 22:45There are things you used to do as a child or a teenager that
- 22:48you don't do anymore. Didn't require any big decision,
- 22:55didn't require any discipline or willpower.
- 22:59You just grew out of certain things, and what if porn can be
- 23:06one of them? What if that gratification of
- 23:14seeing someone it's just a habit that you can grow out of?
- 23:21What if those compulsive intrusive thoughts are also a
- 23:25habit that becomes part of your past when you move beyond it?
- 23:35And I want you to invite the part responsible for all of
- 23:38those compulsions and intrusive thoughts to no longer be a lone
- 23:44wolf, but to join your whole system.
- 23:50A system that serves your values, enhances your integrity
- 23:56and brings you deeper peace. And it returned for a moment to
- 24:07that car showroom. And just imagine, a shiny new
- 24:14sports car catches your eye. Sleek curves, Immaculate Polish,
- 24:20beautiful design. And you could admire it, even
- 24:25desire it. But now you see beyond the
- 24:30surface. You sense what's underneath, the
- 24:36hidden costs, the breakdowns, the depreciation, the regret.
- 24:45It's not wrong to notice beauty, but it's wise to see through it.
- 24:53And just as a skilled driver ignores distractions on the
- 24:56roadside, you now focus on the journey.
- 25:01You've chosen your relationship, your growth, your integrity
- 25:09based on your values, no one else's.
- 25:14So that no desire can pull you off course.
- 25:19Because you understand that not every thought deserves a
- 25:25destination, and not every feeling deserves a following.
- 25:32Most important of all, not every impulse deserves an action.
- 25:43I want you to get a feeling that everything lies on that spectrum
- 25:51of Shades of Grey. You decide what's OK and what
- 25:57isn't OK. You decide what you're
- 26:00comfortable with and what you're not.
- 26:04You decide what crosses the line.
- 26:10Because if everything crosses the line, then it's
- 26:16understandable why you would feel guilt or shame or regret
- 26:22because there is no line of discernment.
- 26:27And I want you to get a feeling that perhaps a good line, as if
- 26:32thoughts and feelings turn into action, that becomes damaging
- 26:36either to yourself or others. Maybe that's a useful line.
- 26:41I don't want you to get a feeling that you have no desire
- 26:46to cross that line. Your thoughts are just thoughts,
- 26:54and you choose their meaning. You are not defined by what
- 27:00comes to mind, and you can notice beauty without needing to
- 27:06chase it, and you release comparison and instead live in
- 27:13appreciation. You can meet your needs through
- 27:19connection and integrity, not through gratification and
- 27:27delusion. You are the driver and you know
- 27:32your destination and you trust yourself completely.
- 27:44I want you to imagine going forwards in time, perhaps a
- 27:47month or two months, and just imagine noticing someone
- 27:51attractive, but instead of any tension or guilt or intrusive
- 27:57thoughts, you simply observe and move on.
- 28:06No story, no meaning, just awareness.
- 28:12And then imagine that a thought arises, an old pattern, maybe a
- 28:19flicker of impulse. But notice that you can just
- 28:25frame it as just a thought. And when it becomes just a
- 28:29thought, it loses its power, enabling you to return to
- 28:36presence, to gratitude and connection, so that your energy
- 28:46flows where it belongs, into life, love and purpose.
- 28:56And when you feel that you have more ability to be discerning
- 29:04with your thoughts and emotions, that you're going to be fairer
- 29:09on yourself as to what meaning you give things.
- 29:14And to keep your eye on the prize of the future that you
- 29:18truly desire rather than being distracted by things that are
- 29:29not as good as what you're pursuing anyway.
- 29:35And when you feel that calibration is taking place,
- 29:39almost like your internal operating system is being
- 29:43updated to the latest version, not the teenage version, not you
- 29:50in a previous relationship, but all of that wisdom and
- 29:53experience is updating your operating system now.
- 29:59And let me know by nodding your head.
- 30:02That's it. You are not your past, you are
- 30:08not your mistakes. You are you now.
- 30:13And everything in the past is either wisdom or experience that
- 30:20can help you in the present and your future.
- 30:26It's time to leave this place. You could admire the cars
- 30:32without needing to drive them or buy them, and you can
- 30:36acknowledge your thoughts without needing to respond to
- 30:41them. So take a deep breath in through
- 30:44your nose and out through your nose.
- 30:49Just wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes, connect and calibrate
- 30:54into the here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 31:01awaken you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 31:08456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes, open your eyes,
- 31:15910. Wide awake, wide awake, wide
- 31:19awake. Thank you so much for joining me

- 31:51too. And if you would like to listen
