- speaker-0: Hey guys, Nelson here. I just want to apologize for the audio in this episode. I tried to salvage as best I could, and hopefully this won't happen again. So please enjoy the show. Hey, welcome in the Average Home Theater. I am Nelson. Hey, what's up everybody? It's producing me. It's it's spooky season. Okay, our first review or movie discussion of Spooky Season. Spooky season is upon us. ⁓ was informed in the last video that it started on September the first. So we're eleven days behind. Eleven days behind. ⁓ today is the twelfth. This is this is new territory for him, but I love anthology stuff. Mm-hmm. And the reason I love ⁓ is because they make me feel like I'm like it's spooky season. It feels like Halloween to me. That's the only time I really watch ⁓ I don't watch ⁓ during the year. So it's kinda like your shag into the Right. I just really I think that they it's almost like they're built for the Halloween season. It's it's weird because they're not you don't take them too seriously. Right. You know, 20 minute, 25 minute episodes. So it's just kind of fun. Yeah. That was that's what I was gonna say for the most part. It seems like they're just little fun little vignettes that you can Right. And that's why Twilight Zone. Like I love all of that stuff. Yeah. So I wanted I want to get Nick into this. type of format per se. I'm trying, I'm I'm doing and ⁓ I'm doing the work. So we literally just finished the movie. Yeah. We finished the movie, we set up in here, and here we are. Yeah, we watched Tales from the Dark Side. Tales from the Dark Side. Tales from the Dark Side. The Masters the movie. The movie from nineteen ninety, we were ten years old. Yeah, starring every famous person ever. That's correct. And that that's also something else that's really neat about anthologies. They always have guest stars. So when you watch like Tales from the Crypt and all of those types of things, there's always like a guest, a special guest. And it's all it always seems like people who don't normally do those kind of things. It's probably very, very fun for those actors to do something like that. It's not like S N L or whatever. Getting to do something that's not normally, like you said, what they do. Yeah. Because people do get typecast and whatnot. Yeah. So Tales from the Crypt Dark side. Well, let's take a look at who I mean, Debbie Harry from Blondie. Well, yeah we're gonna go on each episode. So okay. We'll go episode by episode. The first one is lot two forty nine. Yes. And the movie opens up before it gets to the episode, there's the wraparound, which is what's actually going on. Right. And it's Deborah Harry, she just finished getting groceries. She's on her way home. Yeah, she's having a function. She looks like a normal normal, normal lady. Normal lady. Walks into her house, she's having a conversation about a dinner party. Yeah. She's throwing, she needs eight champagne glasses, they can only bring six. And then she opens her pantry door and reveals that there is a cage. With a small child. And that young man is? That is ⁓ Matthew Lawrence. Matthew Lawrence from Mrs. Doubtfire. Brother of Joey Lawrence. Joey Lawrence. Matthew's our age, by the way. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: No, that's not true. So he's not that old. So she is basically I mean there's no spoilers here, so if you haven't seen the movie, don't watch. Yeah. But ⁓ he's prepping him. She's prepping him, he is going to be the main course. Right. She's got this big old long pan in a big old long oven that looks like a a a crematorium, I guess would be the word for that. And she's going to she talks about eviscerating him and preparing. to ⁓ three hundred fifty degrees. Prehe preheating the oven. ⁓ the the amount of time it's gonna take in her own. ⁓ she figured out his wake he helps her with the math. yeah, she's going to prepare and then have a party and he will be the main So his attempt at a delay tactic is to read her stories from the books that he from the book, the tales from the dark side book he had in there that she said was her favorite book growing up. Yeah, that's the That's the that's the catch. Yeah. That's his way out. So the first story is live two forty nine. Mm-hmm. This stars Christian Slater, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, Julianne Moore, young Julianne Moore and other people. Yeah. ⁓ but those are like the three main ones. Those are the three big ones. And the guy that was in the Yeah, the guy from Die Hard that we recognize is all blog, yeah. Like the scene. So this this well first of all After watching this, I realize how this is one of the better anthology movies out there. Mm-hmm. I'm just gonna say that first. But it starts off strong. This this is a good this is a good episode. Did you have any idea what was going on or No, I I kinda figured so it's ⁓ Steve Bushimi and this other guy are competing for a grant. Right. The guy's dating Steve Bushimi's sister. Yes. I don't know. Christian Slater's sister. They're all they're friends. And ⁓ she's basically helping the guy blackmail, not blackmail, but ⁓ well yeah, blackmail. She's helping the guy get a grant over. It's or whatever gets paid for that. Right. And then she's also there was an item that was stolen and she's planning it in his apartment so that he could get in trouble and be kicked out of the university so this guy gets all the money for himself. ⁓ and Steve Bushemi suspects this and he I guess he gets this sarcophagus with a mummy in it. Right. So he I g I mean, this is nineteen ninety, it's not like you get on your phone and just order a mummy. Yeah, yeah. He didn't get on Amazon. I'm not quite sure how he ordered said lot two forty nine. But nonetheless he orders create like in narrators of the lost art. His own special mummy. Yeah. Three thousand year old mummy. They open it and it's ⁓ It's they say it's very light, but the three of them opening the thing, you could tell it was like a fiberglass. I thought that was pretty starroam or something. It wasn't heavy. No. ⁓ yeah, he ⁓ it's him and Christian Slater at this point. They open the mummy up and there's a there's a line like the key line where he says it smells like rotten flowers. Yeah. And that comes up a little bit later in the in the thing. ⁓ yeah, he pulls out this ⁓ scroll, reads the scroll. Well yeah, he pulls it out from the inner s yeah. Yeah, they opened up. They cut open the ⁓ the mummy after he took the bandages off and exposed the face. Mm-hmm. Then they cut open the body where they the ⁓ embalmers or whatever stitch him back up. Right. Then you pull out flowers and onions. I don't understand the onions. I don't know. Maybe it was to keep them fresh. Maybe that's a thing. I don't know. It looked like they were in good shape though. Like they could have used them to just get them from a grocery store and put ⁓ in there after the movie. He could have he could have gotten So yeah, so he pulls out this scroll and he's pretending like it's just ⁓ this is cool. He pretends that he can't read. Yes. The guy asked him what does it say? And he's like, How the hell should I know? And then later on he's reading it ritualistically by a candlelight and the money. Son of a bitch does know how to read it. Yeah. Because he hears him reading it, then the electricity goes out. And as it went out, As the electricity goes out, Christian Slater goes to investigate, gets pushed over by the mummy. Also Julianne Moore, who was going over to plant said. So they don't really keep it a secret as to what's going on because right after he starts ⁓ saying the whatever. Yeah, the mummy makes its way to the guy's house who's who's the blind guy. Yeah, the pe competing with him for the grant. So, you know, something we learned. If someone if you suspect someone breaking into your house Write this down. It's always good to grab a tennis racket for protection. Tennis racket. You got a house full of items that you could use. Yes. you want to go for that tennis racket. A tennis racket is that's the ticket. Write that down. It may save your life one. It didn't it didn't save his life. No, it didn't work. It didn't work. It didn't work. But you may want to try it. ⁓ he's a big guy too, he's like six three, but he grabs a tennis racket. Yeah. He maybe he was just really good at tennis and thought he could stand off the the I don't know. The seven foot mummy. The seven The Mummy picks him up and I always think of the movie The Mummy. Mm-hmm. When she talks ⁓ what's her name? ⁓ Evie. Mm-hmm. Is telling Brendan Fraser how they stick up a a poker up his nose, scramble things around a bit, and yank his brains out. And that's what the Mummy does to Mr. Blonde Boy. With a wire coat hanger. It's like a coat hanger, yeah. He undoes it and just part is he meet he puts the brains in like a bowl of fruit or something. So whenever Julianne Moore gets back to the apartment, she sees her boyfriend dead on the floor and his brains in the in the fruit. Yeah. And it and it didn't bother her. No. She ⁓ speaker-1: She's a cold heart, it's name. speaker-0: She she did call the police at least. But she did seem to be a bit unbothered by it. She's very unbothered. Yeah. She's a cold hearted woman. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We'll stop we'll stop that there. Yeah. ⁓ so yeah, then the the mummy goes to her place. The mummy gets her next. Well, yeah. They're at the ⁓ at the funeral, Christian Slater and Julien A. Moore, she says, I saw the killer. I didn't tell the police but I saw the kill. He was tall and thin and he stunk of dead flowers. And there's that line. And Christian Slater goes, lot two forty nine. He has his he has his his aha line is just stroke mobile. Yeah, and Christian Slater realizes that hey, maybe it's because he go when they're investigating, I think we kind of jumped ahead. When they're investigating him ⁓ yeah, he's like where's the mother? Yeah, he he notices that it's gone. So now he's put two and two together. Yes. Steve Buscemi is unleashing the mummy. So he grabs his tennis racket. Yeah, so the the mummy ⁓ tracks down Julianne Moore and and kills her. He he scratches her in the back, he he stabs her with scissors. Is that what it's No, no, she stabs him with scissors. She gets she actually fights. She gets a good a better fight than her ginormous boyfriend did, he did absolutely nothing. Right. She actually threw something f like a vase of flowers at him. He catches it and breaks it. Yeah. And then she grabs scissors and stabs him. And of course he just throws her out. And then he turns she's trying to get out the window. Yeah. And he scratches her back. That's what I'm and stuffs her full of flowers and whatever. Flowers. Like genius stuffed with flowers. And Christian Slater couldn't get in touch with her. The phone line was down, so he decided to run all the way to her dorm. Or wherever, or his I don't know if it's the boyfriend's dorm she was staying with. Anyway, he runs over there because they were living together and he finds his sister De Sista. Right. There. And then and then now he knows. Now he knows. So he devises a moment. And he shows up, he Steve Buscemi, the fuse goes out, the electricity goes out, and he says, damn fuses. And when he goes outside, he gets beat up. Right. And he wakes up taped to a chair in his own apartment with the f in front of the fire. And the perpetrator was none other than Christian Slater. Christian Slater. Yeah. Yeah. He's ⁓ He's upset because he knows who knows that he put he unleashed the mummy that killed his best friend and his sister. and he's trying to So he asks Steve Buscemi, what do you plan on doing? He says, Well I'm gonna start a fire and roast your nuts or something like that. He does say he's gonna roast his nuts. That made us that made us slack. That was a that was a good chuckle. ⁓ and then Steve Bushemy he tricks him because he he tells him where the scroll is. Well, you you skipped over the mummy. Christian Slater is ready with his whole fight a knife, ⁓ an electric knife. He chops up the mummy and the whole little scene. Cuts his head off and there's the maggots and the bugs and Coming out of his neck hole. Steve Busimmi almost throws up in his mouth. Yeah. Or he does. Yeah, he's got the the tape over his mouth. So Christian Slater burns up the mummy. It's kindling now, it's gone. Yeah. And he gets he convinces him to tell him where the scroll is so he doesn't do it again. Right. He he burns the scroll. The scroll. The scroll that Steve Busimi tells him. ⁓ yeah, it's in such and such drawer. So he goes, gets it, he burns it. Do you know how valuable that is? And blah blah blah. Christian Slater's like, I don't care. Yeah. You know? Yeah, there's something about ⁓ that's irreplaceable. And then he says, Well, my sister. Well, he says, I hope it is or something. Yeah, yeah. So in the long run, he lets him go. That's how he saves himself by giving up the scroll. Right, because Christian Slater's not a murdering bastard. Or did he? Or did he give up the scroll? So he the final scene, Steve Buscemi says, You're never gonna see me again. Gets in a cab and he leaves. With his two suitcases. But it's two suitcases. And as he's as you see the cab driving away, he's laughing to himself. The cab driver's like, What's so funny? Mm-hmm. And he's Where's this guy? And doesn't know the difference between an ancient scroll and what was it like? Hieroglyphic porn or something. And he was he was chanting the chant again. And then it cuts to Christian Slater on the phone, hangs up. And then at the front door they they say his name, he turns around and it's his sister and her brother who are who have risen from the dead and are going to kill him. Snowbrains and stuff for flowers. So which was a a pretty neat twist. Yeah. I like that. So were you waiting for that? I was not I was not waiting. I mean, as soon as the there's a knock at the door, I kind of figured, but before that I was like, Well Where are they going He's just gonna be haunted forever or whatever, but no. ⁓ he he awoken them. Awakened. Awakened them them them. And ⁓ yeah, they they got their revenge. So I liked Lot 249. I did. It it wasn't my favorite of the three. No. But I I did I liked them all. Yeah. It's a good start. It's very similar in Creep Show there's a ⁓ the first story is something that's kind of similar. It's not a mummy or anything, but it's it's kind of similar and I without saying any more. Yeah. You'll see it once we watch it. But yeah, it's there's kind of a similar story in in the first creep show. But yeah, I like Lot 249. Christian Slater was great. Steve Busimen was great. Julianne Moore, young, smoking hot. Yeah. She was great as the cold hearted bee. She yeah, she was pretty incredible. Yeah, it all it it it was a good start. Mm-hmm. Good warm up. Agreed. Okay, so in between, after that story, You got you got Matthew Lawrence just trying to buy time. Right, trying to buy time and she says I'm gonna let you I'm gonna hear what go ahead. Well she says she likes romantic or stories, love stories with happy endings. And then he's all he's ⁓ this one, you'll like this one. You'll really like this one. And it kind of sags into like as she's trip like cutting vegetables and preheating the oven. I thought she says that before the third. The next one is the cat. The next one is the Cat from Hell. Written by Well, it's it's it's written by Stephen King, but the screenplay was written by George Romero. That's right. ⁓ so based on a short story that ⁓ Stephen that Stephen King did. So this one is interesting. the old man, what's his name from Christmas Vacation? Uncle I don't remember his name. Anyway, everybody who's seen a movie knows who that guy is. Yeah. He's in major pain, he's the ⁓ the dean of the school. Mm-hmm. Anyway, he hires he's in a wheelchair, old rich man. Lives in a giant mansion. Giant circumstances mansion by himself. Hires a hitman played by what's the guy's name? ⁓ Joe Hanson, I forget his first name. Something Joe Hanson. He's the cab driver and Scrooge. That's the only other thing I've ever seen. Mm-hmm. ⁓ but he plays the hit man and he hires this hitman to kill a cat. To he he he this cat has to go. He's it's a A black cat living in the house. Black cat's thinking a bum rap, maybe. You know what I quite a black cat? They I miss him. They are very difficult like animal shelters and stuff. Have a hard time adopting out black cats. Because of all the stigma with the superstitions. Yeah. I'm not superstitious. I'm a little stichious. Yeah. So I remember that. I've actually finally been able to work that into somehow. Alright, so anyway, so the old man's gotta he's gotta kill the the hit man has to that's his that's his mark is a a black cat. So the old man proceeds to tell him the story of the cat and how it's killed four three people. He lives there with his sister, her best friend her friend and a a hired guy like a butler business. Mr. Shick and Dance. Mr. Shick and Dance. Then too. And then what not the sister but the friend was Ray Finkel's mom. Ray Finkel's mom, that's right. Yeah. That damn marina. And I didn't recognize her at first. It didn't look like her to me. But then as the movie went on, I I definitely recognized her. She that and that voice. The intro to Ghostbusters. Yeah. My uncle thought he was Saint Jerome. She was in the Ghostbus in the Ghostbusters. ⁓ so anyway, yeah. So then he starts to tell the stories and how the cat has killed each person. Yeah. Ray Finkel's mom, it attached itself to her face and smothered her. ⁓ Which was hilarious. And Mr. Shickadance, it killed him while he was driving. It got out of the basket in the vehicle and scratched him in the face. To the vet to get him put down at midnight. All these all these All these killings, this cat only killed at midnight. ⁓ so yeah. I mean, why go during the daytime when you can bring it to the vet at night? Right. But he says I already called the vet ahead of time. Yeah, that that part was cut. I mean, it makes a lot of sense. It does. Cat was a that cat was a gangster, man. Cat was gangster, yeah. So gets did some killing. So the hitman at first he's not really convinced because the cat After he tells him the stories, the cat jumps on him and he's petting him. And I guess because at that point the cat has no reason to kill him. Well the cat was friendly with him until he says, I can just grab it by the neck. Yeah. And then the cat goes crazy. Yeah, and he doesn't yeah, he doesn't really believe him at first. I mean because the cat was friendly and also because you hired a hitman to kill a cat. Right. That's just preposterous. So let's let's go back. The hitman finally asks, Well, why is this cat trying to kill you? ⁓ yeah, yeah, yeah. And then he explains how he the way he made his money was an experimental or or a a drug that he developed for ⁓ for pain reliever type thing. And it did like three different things. Yeah. It was but it also had lot of bad side effects. Mild hallucinogenic and pain reliever and something with the heart. Yeah. Regulate blood blood pressure. Is that what it was? Somebody. Well, they were in development of the drug, they were doing it on cats. They were testing it on cats. Yeah. And they killed over 5,000 cats. The chemistry of the metabolism of the cat's nervous system. The cat's nervous system is one of the way. So he believes that five thousand cats over the years. He believes that the cat gods sent this black cat to destroy him and his family. I wish we would have gotten a name for the cat. Did we get a name? No, they never said. They never said. That's weird. And it's weird i i it's a weird premise. Only a someone who's not of sound mind would write something like this. Maybe cocaine. Someone who you know, they was on mind altering ⁓ substances. ⁓ I I I guess I can't leave the comment. If you've seen our Sleepwalkers video, ⁓ God. I made a comment about ⁓ Yeah, never mind. So I can't say it here. Anyway, so this is where it r I like the storytelling aspect. Was it the same director for all three? For everything? I'm not sure. Because I found the direction really good. Yeah. I I enjoyed the style during the whole movie. Yeah. I thought a lot of the shots and the clothes and just the way like when he was telling the stories, how they did it. ⁓ There's only John Harrison was the only director listed in the internet movie that. Well he he did a fabulous job. I I I love the directing of him. And remember how they were telling the stories and like they were it was actually like right there behind him. Yeah, it was it was kinda like a little bit of a f not really a fourth wall, but yeah, he's he's acting in front of the story kind of going on in the background. I thought that was really and then we ⁓ we commented also about the the first person point of view shots or the the dad's point of view. Everything had like kind of a purple issue and You could see him hiding in the car behind objects while the guy's looking for him. Yeah, that was that was really well done. So continuing, so as the hitman decides he's gonna start trying to kill the cat, the cat starts like swiping him and doing drive-by. Goes on the off he goes on the offensive for sure. And I kept saying, Parkour. Yeah. Because as the cat would pass by like jump up and say. Yeah. And that's that was the stuff that was kind of in the first person. You'd see him hiding and then he'd bounce on. Yeah. So at first he was going to he was gonna tranquilize the cat or or hit him with something. Yeah, he was gonna drug him. Then he got something else. And then he went for a gun. And then he went for the gun with the with a laser. Laser. And my immediate comment was like he's waiting for just shining the laser on her out. Like the cat chase the laser. Go it. There you go. Missed opportunity. Yeah, yeah. Complete missed opportunity. Maybe it's before they they had those speaker-1: I don't know. speaker-0: Yeah, I mean you probably couldn't get like a household laser corner. Maybe that's why they didn't do it because it didn't exist. Right. That was new technology and it was only on guns, maybe? Yeah, maybe so. Judging by the size of that laser thing. It was just fairly new for guns, too. I love that. In seeing movies in the eighties with the rifle scope on the right, like, ⁓ okay, this movie right here. I'm going to do a ⁓ VHS review on it. I come in peace. Mm-hmm. The little FBI guy has a revolver with a six-inch barrel and a deer rifle scope on top of it. It's fancy. Yeah, the way they put those things together on it. ⁓ that's great. What a sound to be alive. So he he has the laser on the cat's face and misses. So obviously there's something protecting the cat. Yeah. Where Which the cat was conveniently in front of a television where you could see the bullet exploded the television. It had to have something to make a ⁓ so he's running around the house shooting everything and trying to get the cat. Until the cat it's finally jumps upon his face and puts his face inside the it man's mouth. Forcing his way down his throat basically. Forces think ⁓ Think face hugger from the alien franchise. Except it's a cat going into the guys. And the cat's whole body. Yeah. Not just the whole thing. Nothing. Not a nasty little thing going down the throat. He basically ate the cat hole, but it was the cat's choice, not his choice. And it's a pretty good effect. It really is. I I I was thinking that as we were watching it. ⁓ it really did look pretty good. And even what looked even better, so the cat's inside him, he's dead. And then when the cat comes out after that, that was thought that was the cat exit of the body was better than the entrance. Then before CGI, when you had to use some elbow grease and do those things practically. And it looked awesome. Yes, it looked great. Yeah. ⁓ George Lucas. So Huh? What? Yeah, so the the cat comes out of the hitman and then it's ⁓ let's not forget he shot the clock. So he shot the clock. And then it malfunctioned. And then when the old man came in, 'cause it was daylight, the clock hits midnight, and that's when the cat comes out of the body. Comes out of the body and proceeds to Just give the old man a heart attack. Yeah, but it scares him to death. And he drops his his pills and that's the end. Yeah. And it's a good episode. I enjoy that one. It was it was my favorite of the three. I like that one. I like think I like that one the most. Yeah. was a good one. Yeah. So then this is where Matthew is ⁓ tells her, ⁓ you like love stories? Well this one's a love story. Yeah. So he's trying to delay her even more because it's getting closer to him having to go in the oven. The oven's preheated man. Yeah it's almost it's almost at three fifty. He's about to get eviscerated. So this one was hilarious that she explained to him what eviscerated is. ⁓ yeah. So this movie or this episode, I remember I didn't catch or I didn't even think about the end. Mm-hmm. You were like, is she what I didn't that that crossed did me didn't even cross my mind. So James Remar is a traditional starving artist type thing. Yeah. And he's getting dropped by his agent because his his art isn't selling. It's not he's not cutting the mustard. Right. His agent basically says ⁓ Can't make ten percent off of nothing. Or he the guy says, I'm making nothing, and then the guy says, Well, I'm making ten percent of nothing. Yeah. So he's fine. Good luck. He gets drunk at the bar. Mm-hmm. As he's leaving, him and the bartender are leaving, and the bartender is attacked by a which ended up. They show the gargoyle on top of his apartment. Yeah, they open the scene with that and by the time I had kind of forgotten about it. I was thinking it was it was The devil, like he had to make the deal with the devil was where I thought they were going with it. Like which is why I'd ask you, like, what did he say? I thought it was the deal was, okay, I'll make you a famous artist, but you can't tell anyone about me, I'll own your soul kind of thing. But it was just a standard run of the mill norm. Right. Which gargoyles are protectors from evil. Correct. So they're not evil themselves. Anyway. Which is why their own churches and correct buildings and such. So it's a fact. It's a gargoyle and it kills the bartender and makes a deal with James Remar saying, In exchange for your life, you can never tell anyone, you saw me, what I look like. What happened anything. You have to promise. And of course he's like, I promise Yeah, I would I would make that deal. Right. And the gargoyle gives him a little something I'll keep it secret. The gar bar gives him a little something to remember it by. Crosses scratches across your heart and leaves. Mm-hmm. So while he's going home, he meets not a nice neighborhood. It's not a nice neighborhood. Yeah. I'm guessing is it New York? Do they really say? I think it's it's one of those big New York, Chicago, something like that. ⁓ It's not the nice port of town. There's perfidio on everything. Everything's locked up. Yeah. Like he the the bartender when they close up he locks his door with a chain. On the outside? On the outside, yeah. So ⁓ and he has a a gun. And he he loads his pistol love before he leaves ⁓ the bar. Doesn't do him any good, but he hasn't. Right. So they're doing good against Pro. After all that, James, ⁓ he's going home and he meets this beautiful young woman, ⁓ Ray Don Chong, who her name is ⁓ Carol. Carola. Carola. The lovely Ray Don Chong. Ray Don Chong. And they basically kind of instantly fall in love, I guess you can say. Yeah, he kind of like he he Seems like from her perspective, he's attacking her. ⁓ like he puts her up against the wall, uncovers her mouth, and he's telling her. That's what happens when people put you up against Yeah, that's what happens. And he tells her, like, I'm not gonna hurt you, just don't say anything. I'm gonna let you go, just don't say anything. And my original my initial thought was what what is she why? Why is she out there to begin with? But he takes her to his place, his loft, whatever he has. So he's her phone, his starving artist loft. And she basically explains that she was meeting with a friend and God was so you're like, ⁓ okay, she was meeting with a friend in Godwells. She's not from there. ⁓ that's that's plausible. So they have a hot, passionate night of love making. They have a rendezvous, yes. And next thing you know, she's like moving in. Yeah, they're they're in love. He he what does he he says he's gonna call the police? And then he does that answer and he says that ⁓ the wine is busy. Is that who he was calling? Yes. Okay. And I think what happened is he realized I just made a deal, I can't say anything. So he hangs up the phone. Right. Well then the next day he goes to the crime scene and sees that the police are doing whatever. And then he just he comes back. And they're taking away the buddy, the guy that they left in the bar. Baddocts yeah. They locked him in the bar and he says, ⁓ yeah. ⁓ So yeah, he goes back He gets back, she's not there, but then she knocks on the door and she has her bag saying that she needs a place to stay. Right. And blah blah blah. And then that's when you find out that her friend was a famous art dealer, seller person with a gallery, and he basically freaks out saying, like she says, Well, I told him I told my friend about your work. And he's like, Well, that's that's a dream come true. That's who I've been trying to impress or whatever. This this whole thing trying to get his foot in the door. Trying to get his foot in the door. That's right. So he becomes kind of a famous artist. Mm-hmm. She yeah. They obviously they stay together. It's ten years place. And then she tells him Are you gonna take care of me? And he says, Yes. And then she says, Are you gonna take care of our baby? ⁓ yeah. And then she you realize that she is with child. Yeah. Which again happened she found that out pretty quickly. Pretty quickly. ⁓ and then they they cut to ten years later, they're happily married with two kids. Well, they're not married yet. No, no, they're not married, you're right. But they have two children. Yeah, because he says, We're gonna to make this little bastard legitimate. ⁓ wait, no, no, you're right. I think I think they are married. I apologize. It's it's after she tells him she was pregnant, he says, Are we gonna make this little bastard legitimate? Right. And then they fast forward to ten years and they've they've got the two kids and ⁓ And the agent is back. The agent is back. He's kinda like his assistant, agent, babysitter. Yeah. Whatever. He's obviously making them so much money that Hey, you need a babysitter? I'll watch your kids. Yeah, I'll do whatever you want. Just keep giving them So yeah, they're ⁓ they're hanging out the The agent's there with the babysitter and he finally decides, ⁓ there's one thing I haven't been truthful with you about. Yeah, because they're celebrating their ten year anniversary of meeting each other. The night they met. Right. Which is strange. I don't remember the night I met my wife. I mean, I remember the night, but I don't remember what day it was. Yeah, it's not something they don't keep track of. So he for some reason decides he's going to tell her about what happened that time. Yeah. I guess they want you to think that it's kind of been eating at him all these years. And then he you know, he made the promise, I'm never gonna say what happened, what you look like. Well, 'cause she she finds she had drawn pictures. Yeah, she saw but had hit him and then she saw like part of a picture and I was thinking, Well maybe that's how I was gonna get him. She saw the picture and now she knows what it it looks like. But no, he he that doesn't happen. He ends up telling her, you know, the night that we met there was a demon. He had a sculpture. He made a sculpture and he said that's what killed the bartender and blah blah blah blah blah. And it promised me to not say anything and to never tell anyone. And then it's the only thing I I love you so much that I have to be one hundred percent honest with you about it. Well he sh he says that after she goes, Well then why are you telling me? Yeah. Yeah. And and during the whole thing I kinda had a thought, is she the demon? Is she the Garval thing? And it's just like a ruse. And then that's end up what happens. ⁓ and sh the Gorgoil emergency the transformation. Yeah. Which was again like the fly. Awesome practical effects when she ⁓ she reaches her hand up and pulls her hair apart her scalp and everything and the yeah. I mean that's nineteen ninety yeah. That looked great. That was great. So be on par with the cat coming out of the hit man's face. and then she she kills him. She she was all she was like She was very sad about it. Before she kills him, he hears the kids crying in the in the room. He's like, Wait a minute. And then she kids come out and the kids are little little baby gargoyles. So yeah, so she has to kill him. Yeah. And then the next time they show her, she's a gargoyle, but again, on the roof and she's holding the two babies. Yeah, she they they fly out of the skylight. Yeah. They bust out of the skylight. And then they show her she's on the roof in the position on the corner of the roof and she's holding the babies and they kinda like they turn back to stone back to stone. Earlier, ⁓ earlier in the episode, she said something about her ex-boyfriend and did something. Did you catch that? So apparently she's constantly trying this and it's always falling through. Because type of thing. They just gotta say something. They just can't keep the secret. They can't keep Keep the vow. And so and once he broke the vow, she had to to kill him. Which was the name of the episode? Lovers Vow, yep. Yeah. ⁓ so yeah, I I really close second to the cat one, the thing that pushed over for the cat one for me was the cat going in and everything coming up. So it cuts back to Joey and then he just figures out a clever way. She's going in to get him. He throws out some marbles, she slips, he gets the key and he pushes her in the oven. ⁓ The cool thing, like he's dictating it as it's happening. Yes, he's saying set up a story. Like it's a story. Yeah, the boy finds marbles and he throws them on the ground, but it's dark so she can't. And she doesn't look down to see where they are. Yeah. And then she goes into the crematorium and then the last thing is he's eating the little little cookies. Chocolate chip cookies. Well was it chips a lot instead ⁓ of Chips Ahoy? And he says, Don't you just love good endings? Yeah. Couldn't give the rice to Chips Ahoy, so then we him some Chips a lot. So yes, that is Tales from the Dark Side. So overall, what was your experience? I I liked it. I'm still especially the anthology movies, I'm still kinda easing myself into these. So when you first suggested this, I was like, Yeah, I'm gonna watch it. But I wasn't super excited about it. But I I did I did enjoy it. I liked it more than I thought I would. I liked it better than ⁓ trick or treat. and yeah, just watching I think it's neat just to watch these actors kind of doing something different and I guess towards the beginning of their careers, I I I really enjoyed it. Yeah, and it's the same thing with Creepshow. I mean, Creepshow has Leslie Nielsen, it has Ted Danson and ⁓ Stephen King yeah, is in is in one of ⁓ so they all kind of do it. I think Creep Show two doesn't have as much as Creep Show one as far. No, there are there's some You you're gonna recognize some people in Creep Show two. Yeah. ⁓ but this, in my opinion, this movie is way better than both creep shows. I like ⁓ I like the creep show movies, but this one, I like all three of these episodes. Yeah. In Creep Show two, there's o there's only three episodes and only one of them's good. I don't like the other two. Okay. And then Creep Show One, I think there's four. I think there's four episodes in Creep Show one. So Creep Show One is better than the second. ⁓ the second one ha out of all of it has the the one good story is the best one. So you know. I'll I'll be I'll be check I'm not I'm not as averse to checking those out as I as I once was. I I did enjoy this one. Now I watched the Twilight Zone movie. That one I don't like very much. ⁓ it's just okay. ⁓ Twilight Zone is the old black and white old black and white series. Yes. William Shadow. Okay. But then they made the Twilight Zone movie. Okay. And they used that episode and it was John Lithgow who was in. That's right, they that's right. They remade the episode. Yeah. That's right. And there's two other ones with it. But ⁓ And isn't there a more modern Twilight Zone show? Didn't they do one on like a a series? I I may be wrong about that. I don't know. No, I think just ⁓ yeah, yeah. They did like four or five years ago. I think ⁓ I think Jordan Peel tried it and it didn't it wasn't very successful. Didn't do well. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I I I liked it. All right. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I don't know. My repertoire is ever expanding. I wanted to start off with a strong one. Yeah and I knew if you watched a good one, you'd be more willing to watch some of the other ones. Yeah. And ⁓ I wanna see how how you rank different ones, you know. Yeah. Well, I don't have a ton of them, but you know, I have the main ones. I really did enjoy this one. And like you talk about the creep show, ⁓ I never realized that those were movies. I always thought they were series. I didn't realize that they were anthology. Well, they started off as comic books, something like that, years and years ago. And they ⁓ they made the movie and then a second one. There is a creep show three. This was so I think this is the one that was supposed to be creep show three. I did I did see that in the in the trivia. And there was something happened where it ended up not being creep show three, but then they made a creep show three. Which is absolutely dreadful. Yeah. I watched about ten minutes of it and turned it off. In ⁓ in the comments they were talking about, I think it was George Romero and Tom Savini, they referred to this to Tales from the Dark Side of the movie as Creep Show Three. And when they refer to it, that's how they refer to it. Okay. ⁓ so yeah, and I I don't I I I don't remember why it it didn't work out. I don't know. It doesn't matter. It's still good. Yeah, very good. Cool. Well that was a good Strong start to the spooky season, I think. Yeah. So if you if you haven't watched these and you just listen to everything we said, well, go watch them anyway. They're very good. But none of you see ⁓ let us know which episode of The Tales from the Dark Side's your favorite. Yeah, definitely watch ⁓ and none I mean, spoilers, but none of this stuff is like Earth's shadow. Right, right. You kind of see a lot of this stuff coming. Like for me to figure out that she was the Northwest. And I mean that's kind of the nature of this stuff. Yeah. It's all supposed to be, yeah, and usually somebody's gonna get their come up in this type thing. Yeah. ⁓ 'cause most of the time the people in these are not very good people. Correct. So that's kind of the nature of it. Yeah, especially like Tales from the Crypt. I mean, everybody in those episodes are like terrible people, so and terrible things happen to Yeah. I'm yeah, I'm looking forward to watching more of ⁓ and looking forward to getting more into the The spooky season, ⁓ the mood. It's time. We're only about six weeks away from Halloween, so it's time. We're gonna be watching Psycho ⁓ in the next night or so. ⁓ Jake we're not gonna be watching Psycho. He's never seen it and I've actually got him excited to watch it. It's great. ⁓ for a sixteen year old to be excited about watching the what nineteen sixties. Nineteen sixties, yeah. Let's do the math. What a sixty year old movie? Sixty six year old movie? ⁓ so yeah, we're gonna be doing that. And I got that ⁓ that collection. It's got Psycho, Vertigo, Riberdo and the Birds. So we're gonna be kinda making our way through those over the next week or so. So yeah. ⁓ yeah, we're ready to go. I just watched Pearl again, so I kinda was kinda was getting into it already a little bit. ⁓ but I I I did enjoy this one. ⁓ was a good Good ⁓ a good introduction, a good continuance of my anthology horror movie journal. Sweet. All right, guys. Well, like, subscribe, tell your friends and catch on the neck one. And go watch the Landry Incident. ⁓ yeah, go watch that. Do it.
