- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back. It's the third hour of the Morning Show
- 0:02Speaker 1: with Preston Scott. Great to have you with me this morning.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Jose running the program over there in Studio one A.
- 0:07Speaker 1: I am here in Studio one B, and I've been
- 0:09Speaker 1: looking forward to this for a little while. I'm just
- 0:12Speaker 1: modestly jealous, although I'm not supposed to be that way
- 0:14Speaker 1: as a Christian. Kirk Cameron joins us. You know him
- 0:18Speaker 1: maybe from Growing Pains, maybe you know him from the
- 0:20Speaker 1: films he's made, perhaps documentaries he's done, perhaps a book,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Born to Be Brave. But we're going to talk about
- 0:27Speaker 1: the tour. It is the Strong Families, Strong Communities Tour,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and Kirk Cameron joins us this morning, how are you, sir, Oh.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Preston, I'm doing so great. I appreciate you having me
- 0:37Speaker 2: on the show this morning. It's a pleage to talk
- 0:39Speaker 2: with you.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I got to tell you, I said jealous because there
- 0:41Speaker 1: are very few people that age as gracefully as you
- 0:44Speaker 1: have aged. How in the world, my gosh, man, you
- 0:48Speaker 1: have just you have defeated father time and I'd love.
- 0:52Speaker 2: To know how that is so funny? Oh my goodness. Well,
- 0:55Speaker 2: thanks thanks for the encouragement. You know, we've got six
- 0:58Speaker 2: grown kids. Can you believe this? I'm a grandfather. I
- 1:02Speaker 2: have a little baby girl who had a baby girl.
- 1:05Speaker 2: And I think that's what it is. Is we've all
- 1:09Speaker 2: moved to Middle Tennessee from California and around the country,
- 1:13Speaker 2: and we're together now, and this is just such a
- 1:16Speaker 2: sweet season in my life. And I'm excited to be
- 1:19Speaker 2: sharing all the things that I've been learning through COVID
- 1:22Speaker 2: and the crazy political stuff that's been going on, and
- 1:26Speaker 2: all the craziness with the stuff I've been doing at
- 1:30Speaker 2: public libraries and all of that, and it's made me
- 1:33Speaker 2: filled with courage and confidence about the best days in
- 1:37Speaker 2: America being ahead of us.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Those of you listening in and around Panama City. Kirk
- 1:42Speaker 1: is bringing the tour to Panama City. We're going to
- 1:45Speaker 1: talk about that. But Kirk, let's just step back for
- 1:48Speaker 1: just a second here. Do you view your time in
- 1:51Speaker 1: Hollywood as as sort of a time of survival, a
- 1:55Speaker 1: time of refining see all of the above. How do
- 1:59Speaker 1: you look back on it?
- 2:00Speaker 2: That's a really great question. You know, the image that's
- 2:05Speaker 2: coming to my mind is of a caterpillar who crawls
- 2:10Speaker 2: into a cocoon, and there's sort of this metamorphosis, this
- 2:13Speaker 2: transformation that happened. I was in Hollywood and I was
- 2:17Speaker 2: an actor and I was an atheist, and I sort
- 2:23Speaker 2: of came out of this growing pains thing coming to
- 2:26Speaker 2: faith in God and end up doing things I never
- 2:31Speaker 2: thought i'd be doing. I'm really more focused into education
- 2:34Speaker 2: and history and understanding ideas that lead to human flourishing
- 2:40Speaker 2: and blessing and protection for our children in the future.
- 2:44Speaker 2: So I really kind of feel like it was a
- 2:46Speaker 2: school that taught me things that I wasn't expecting to learn,
- 2:51Speaker 2: and it changed me into who I am today. So
- 2:54Speaker 2: some of it was hard, challenging, and yet I'm so grateful.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I look back on it and I think, Wow, God
- 3:01Speaker 2: was watching over me during all those years.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Was it was it like a fork in the road
- 3:05Speaker 1: or did you have like a Popeye moment, you know
- 3:08Speaker 1: where I liken it to look. I've stood all like
- 3:10Speaker 1: and stands and I can't stand no more kind of thing?
- 3:13Speaker 1: What got you? What got you to that place? Because
- 3:17Speaker 1: atheist to Christian is pretty radical.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and we're seeing more of that taking place
- 3:24Speaker 2: in Hollywood and elsewhere. I think for me, it wasn't
- 3:29Speaker 2: it didn't feel like a like I can't stand no more.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Although I love Popeye or a fork in the road.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I simply met someone who was a really cute girl
- 3:38Speaker 2: who took me to church. And I wasn't interested in God,
- 3:43Speaker 2: but the message of the gospel itself carries with it
- 3:47Speaker 2: a power that I could not shake. And it led
- 3:53Speaker 2: me down a road of asking questions like, well, is
- 3:56Speaker 2: this all really an accident? Are we just you know,
- 4:00Speaker 2: evolved pond scum? Is there really transcendent right and wrong,
- 4:06Speaker 2: good and evil? What happens out there when we step
- 4:09Speaker 2: out of here? Do I just die and it's over?
- 4:13Speaker 2: Or is there something else? Does it matter if I
- 4:15Speaker 2: live a good life or a bad life? Or do
- 4:18Speaker 2: we all just return to dust? And that journey led
- 4:21Speaker 2: me to a place where I was just totally changed
- 4:29Speaker 2: in my heart and in my mind, and it was
- 4:32Speaker 2: the best thing that ever happened to me.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Kirk Cameron is with me. It's kirkcamerontour dot com. That's
- 4:39Speaker 1: where you go get your tickets. The tour is coming
- 4:42Speaker 1: to Panama City on March sixth. Strong Families, Strong Communities.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I've talked ad nauseum on my program about what you've
- 4:51Speaker 1: been doing hitting the libraries across the country and so forth.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Is that where this thing was birthed, is your encounters
- 4:57Speaker 1: at those libraries and you thought, well, let's do something more.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Well, I've traveled around the country and I meet so
- 5:04Speaker 2: many people who say things like, man, you know, it's
- 5:07Speaker 2: really great, all the stuff that you're doing with the
- 5:10Speaker 2: kids and the libraries. And during COVID we had our
- 5:13Speaker 2: Christmas singalongus outside. You know, they were calling you me
- 5:16Speaker 2: a super spreader and all this kind of stuff, and
- 5:19Speaker 2: they that's so brave and so courageous. And I find
- 5:23Speaker 2: that people are getting overwhelmed with a sense of dread
- 5:27Speaker 2: and pessimism and defeated defeatism because they think the world
- 5:32Speaker 2: is just getting worse and worse and inevitably so. And
- 5:36Speaker 2: I'm saying, wait a minute. We have had great awakenings
- 5:39Speaker 2: and revivals in this country and around the world in
- 5:42Speaker 2: the past where things were much worse than it is today.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Drag queens and the transgender movement and other things are
- 5:50Speaker 2: nothing compared to the wickedness and evil of the of
- 5:54Speaker 2: the Egyptian Empire, of the Babylonian Empire of times in
- 5:59Speaker 2: the past, where there's no freedom, no opportunity, family, religion.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Everything is all completely in the toilet, with no hope,
- 6:08Speaker 2: and yet against all odds, God raises up some small
- 6:11Speaker 2: groups of people who transform their families, their communities, and
- 6:16Speaker 2: their entire nation. And so I asked the question for us,
- 6:20Speaker 2: could this current cultural setback in America really be a
- 6:25Speaker 2: divine setup for a spiritual comeback led by the family
- 6:29Speaker 2: of Faith? And I believe with all my heart that
- 6:32Speaker 2: it is. So.
- 6:33Speaker 1: That's your purpose with this tour is to in essence
- 6:38Speaker 1: encourage and maybe to a certain extent, arm people for
- 6:41Speaker 1: that purpose.
- 6:43Speaker 2: That's right. I think God is assembling an army of compassion,
- 6:47Speaker 2: and we are his foot soldiers, bringing truth and light
- 6:51Speaker 2: and love to problems in our families, our communities, in
- 6:55Speaker 2: our nation. We are the life giving solutionaries. And if
- 7:00Speaker 2: we recapture a vision of victory for our culture rather
- 7:04Speaker 2: than pessimism and escapism, and say good will overcome evil,
- 7:12Speaker 2: if we believe it and we lean into it, and
- 7:16Speaker 2: we start in our own hearts, in our own homes,
- 7:21Speaker 2: and we commit the works of our hands to doing
- 7:25Speaker 2: what is good and beautiful and true.
- 7:28Speaker 1: There are a lot of themes that you mentioned in
- 7:31Speaker 1: your book Born to be brave and what I sense
- 7:35Speaker 1: is going to be part of your tour and what
- 7:38Speaker 1: you share with people that I've talked about not just
- 7:41Speaker 1: in my pulpit ministry in churches, but in the twenty
- 7:45Speaker 1: plus years of doing this radio program, Kirk, and one
- 7:48Speaker 1: of those themes is changing hearts and minds and winning
- 7:53Speaker 1: those hearts and minds and not worrying about necessarily whether
- 7:57Speaker 1: you win an election, but win the heart and mind.
- 7:59Speaker 1: All of those things take care of themselves. How much
- 8:02Speaker 1: does that revolve around having a better biblical understanding of
- 8:06Speaker 1: what it means to win, what victory looks like.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's really important. As I mentioned earlier,
- 8:15Speaker 2: so many people within the Family of Faith, if you
- 8:20Speaker 2: ask them, you know, is good winning? Is God winning?
- 8:26Speaker 2: Is Heaven winning? I think they would say sort of
- 8:29Speaker 2: in their heart it is in heaven it is, But
- 8:34Speaker 2: in the chaotic world around them economically, politically, morally, they
- 8:40Speaker 2: see the whole thing going down the sewer, and so
- 8:43Speaker 2: it's tough to reconcile the inner victory and peace that
- 8:47Speaker 2: they may want to have and feel like they believe in,
- 8:51Speaker 2: but they don't see it translating to their outside world
- 8:54Speaker 2: with their kids and their marriage and their community in
- 8:56Speaker 2: the nation. And I think that what we've got to
- 9:00Speaker 2: do is we've got to connect those two things and
- 9:03Speaker 2: remember that food transformation and victory on the outside is
- 9:09Speaker 2: a natural result of genuine reformation on the inside. And
- 9:13Speaker 2: victory doesn't look like getting the right political hero to
- 9:17Speaker 2: fix everything in our country. Victory doesn't look like Jesus
- 9:20Speaker 2: rapturing us out of here so that we can say, well,
- 9:25Speaker 2: you know, Scotty, beat me up, the kling Walms are
- 9:28Speaker 2: too evil, set me out of here, back to the starship. No,
- 9:31Speaker 2: I think victory looks like God wins. Greater is he
- 9:35Speaker 2: who is in me than he who is in the world.
- 9:38Speaker 2: All authority was given to Jesus, both in heaven and
- 9:41Speaker 2: on earth, and our hope is in the power of
- 9:44Speaker 2: God working in the hearts of his people, and that
- 9:47Speaker 2: results in God's kingdom coming and his will being done
- 9:52Speaker 2: on earth as it is in heaven. It starts on
- 9:55Speaker 2: the inside, in your heart, in your home and your family,
- 9:58Speaker 2: and moves out through your community and to the nation
- 10:01Speaker 2: and to the world. That's how it's always happened.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Kirk, I would imagine this is going to be a
- 10:06Speaker 1: great event and strong family, strong communities. March sixth thirty
- 10:11Speaker 1: second close Here describe for folks what they can expect.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Oh, it's going to be an inspiring night of worship
- 10:18Speaker 2: with my good friend and musical guest, Matt Hammont. He
- 10:21Speaker 2: was a former lead singer of Sankus Reel. We're going
- 10:24Speaker 2: to be praying together, We're going to be praising together,
- 10:27Speaker 2: and I'm going to give you practical tips for a
- 10:31Speaker 2: personal family battle plan to fight the good fight of faith,
- 10:38Speaker 2: to extinguish evil in your home and in your community.
- 10:42Speaker 2: And I'm going to help you recapture a vision of
- 10:44Speaker 2: victory for the future, not one of pessimism and defeat,
- 10:49Speaker 2: because I believe that this setback is really a setup
- 10:54Speaker 2: for a comeback led by the children of God.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Kirk, thank you, thank you for the time. I wish
- 11:01Speaker 1: you nothing but the best blessings my friend and h
- 11:04Speaker 1: thanks again for your time.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Thank you, Preston, Hope you have a great day. Keep
- 11:08Speaker 2: up the great word.
