- 1:17Today is my twenty-ninth wedding
- 1:19anniversary.
- 1:20Congratulations.
- 1:21Congratulations.
- 1:22It's a feat to be Prado these days.
- 1:25You know,
- 1:26when you sit back and you think about
- 1:27twenty-nine years, like,
- 1:30and we dated for four plus years before
- 1:32that.
- 1:34So we have been together thirty-three
- 1:35years.
- 1:37Wow.
- 1:38And... I don't know.
- 1:42I could get all emotional, like...
- 1:45But we had an amazing, amazing weekend.
- 1:47We met a family friend yesterday,
- 1:49went out to lunch,
- 1:50went to brunch this morning to a Creole
- 1:53place and it was off the chain, awesome,
- 1:58good.
- 1:59And they treated us like a million bucks.
- 2:03welcomed us with a little sign saying
- 2:05happy anniversary gave us a greeting card
- 2:08saying happy anniversary um brought us a
- 2:12cheesecake at the end of our brunch with
- 2:14caramel drizzled over the top and a rocket
- 2:17basically on the top of it um they
- 2:21lit it and it shot so high up
- 2:23into the air julie jumped out of her
- 2:26seat
- 2:29But it was wild.
- 2:30And it's in like a place called the
- 2:33Short North here.
- 2:33And it's where the games were for the
- 2:35Masters last year.
- 2:37So is it a new place?
- 2:39It's a new place.
- 2:39We've never been before.
- 2:41Okay.
- 2:42Just north of where the games were.
- 2:45And it was like basically it was a
- 2:47couch to sit on.
- 2:49It was a big booth,
- 2:50but like with little pillows behind you.
- 2:54And it was so cool.
- 2:56So cool.
- 2:56We had a blast.
- 2:57Did you make a reservation for it and
- 2:59let them know you were coming for your
- 3:01anniversary?
- 3:01We did.
- 3:01Okay.
- 3:03I did.
- 3:03I should say I did.
- 3:05Very nice.
- 3:06And put in the, like,
- 3:07it's our anniversary, twenty-nine years.
- 3:11And they made us feel like a million
- 3:12bucks.
- 3:14That's awesome.
- 3:14Was it spicy food?
- 3:17It could be if you wanted it to
- 3:18be.
- 3:19But, like, we got crab cake eggs benedict.
- 3:26And it wasn't spicy at all.
- 3:29And it was like the lumps of crab
- 3:31in it were huge.
- 3:33It was off the chain good.
- 3:36Again, could not say enough good things.
- 3:39We got two entrees and split them.
- 3:41We got that and we got chicken and
- 3:43waffles.
- 3:46And that was incredible as well.
- 3:47That sounds awesome.
- 3:50And then they brought the cheesecake and I
- 3:51had no room left.
- 3:53None.
- 3:55but it was it was so good so
- 3:57good the caramel drizzle was still warm oh
- 4:01yeah so like it just so the games
- 4:04needs to go back there the master's games
- 4:07needs to go back there so we can
- 4:08try it yeah exactly exactly or rogue
- 4:11invitational yeah i'll take it yeah either
- 4:15one yep
- 4:17either one yeah it was it was so
- 4:18good so good and then um friday night
- 4:24we watched project hail mary a new movie
- 4:28i haven't heard of it i read the
- 4:31book but i actually watched the movie it
- 4:34was phenomenal so well worth the three
- 4:39hours we spent doing that okay i'll write
- 4:42that one down too
- 4:43And then I talked to Jamie about this
- 4:45earlier, but Dutton Ranch,
- 4:48off to a blast of a start.
- 4:52If you're a Yellowstone fan,
- 4:53I think it kicked off at a higher
- 4:55level than Yellowstone ended.
- 4:58And it's not disappointed episode three
- 5:01either.
- 5:01I have not watched episode three yet,
- 5:03but I did watch the first two.
- 5:06Incredible.
- 5:07So I know you guys had a busy
- 5:09weekend too.
- 5:11I don't know what Carolyn's willing to
- 5:13say.
- 5:14So I'll leave it up to her,
- 5:15but we'll start with Jamie and Clovis.
- 5:18Yeah.
- 5:18I, uh,
- 5:19we're doing Murph tomorrow as a gym, um,
- 5:22and like a barbecue at the gym.
- 5:23We had a few people that were free
- 5:25that wanted to do it Saturday.
- 5:27Um, so they did it.
- 5:28And then when they finished up,
- 5:29I did Clovis.
- 5:31I just,
- 5:32I don't know why I I've done Murph.
- 5:35for ten years and wanted to do something
- 5:37different and thought I'd see if I could
- 5:40run ten miles.
- 5:43It was...
- 5:44For those of you who don't know,
- 5:45ten miles,
- 5:46hundred and fifty burpee pull-ups.
- 5:49Yeah.
- 5:50Broken however you want.
- 5:51Like, honestly, I feel like... Sure.
- 5:55I feel like ten rounds of like a
- 5:56mile run,
- 5:58fifteen burpee pull-ups would kind of be
- 6:00like the way to do it.
- 6:02Um,
- 6:03I went and ran seven and a half
- 6:04miles just cause like I had done a
- 6:06loop and then I came into the gym
- 6:09and it was just the seven and a
- 6:11half miles went okay.
- 6:12Like I ran like eight, thirty pace.
- 6:14I'm,
- 6:14I'm happy that I was able to do
- 6:16it.
- 6:17Uh, that's the furthest I've run in years.
- 6:19Um, but when I came into the gym,
- 6:22it was just,
- 6:23I just wanted to be done so bad.
- 6:25Like I did not want to,
- 6:26I was like,
- 6:27you could just count the run as a
- 6:28training piece.
- 6:29Like just be done.
- 6:31Do your joints hurt when you get to
- 6:32a certain mile?
- 6:33Yes.
- 6:34What, what number is that for you?
- 6:36Uh, probably by like four, I was like,
- 6:39you should probably stop because your body
- 6:41is not ready for this.
- 6:43Yeah.
- 6:43I haven't, I have not run more than.
- 6:47I mean, since the games, which was for,
- 6:49and then I had surgery,
- 6:50I haven't run much more than three.
- 6:53Um, and I've only done that twice.
- 6:55So I have not been running for this.
- 6:57Like the seven and a half was taxing
- 6:59and that's, I'm not sore.
- 7:01My, like my knee hurts really bad.
- 7:04I just think my gate is still off.
- 7:06So I feel like I, yeah,
- 7:09the joint is just, it's just not good.
- 7:12We have the Fergie question of the week.
- 7:16Jamie,
- 7:16would you rather win the Masters Games now
- 7:19or turn the clock back fifteen years with
- 7:21what you know now?
- 7:24I'd rather turn the clock back fifteen
- 7:26years.
- 7:29Yeah.
- 7:30Is that because you want to compete as
- 7:31an elite?
- 7:32Yes.
- 7:35I knew it.
- 7:36And then you come back and you can
- 7:37still... Right.
- 7:39You still got time to go back into
- 7:40the thirty-five-year-old division.
- 7:41Exactly.
- 7:42Exactly.
- 7:44I feel like I could have made it
- 7:46if I would have started when I was
- 7:47twenty seven years old.
- 7:49I just yeah,
- 7:52I didn't get started a little bit later
- 7:54than I probably needed to.
- 7:55And.
- 7:58Yeah, I don't know.
- 7:59And everything kept changing by the time I
- 8:02started getting fairly competitive,
- 8:04like every year the rules were started
- 8:05changing.
- 8:06So, yeah,
- 8:06if I could go back a few years
- 8:08before that.
- 8:09That'd be nice.
- 8:12Uh, Denise Moore wants to know,
- 8:13did you press your pace?
- 8:15Um, I ran, like,
- 8:17I would say I wasn't like cardio tired
- 8:20at all,
- 8:21which makes me happy for seven and a
- 8:23half miles,
- 8:24but I could feel it in my,
- 8:26like Carolyn's asking,
- 8:27like I could feel it in my knees
- 8:29and hips.
- 8:30Um, just in your bones.
- 8:32Yeah.
- 8:33I wasn't even like,
- 8:34I'm not even like muscularly sore.
- 8:37which that's good i think i'll be able
- 8:39to i'll probably do like barbara or
- 8:41something tomorrow i won't run but i'll
- 8:43probably do something in the gym with
- 8:45people doing murph um is assuming i can
- 8:49squat we'll see uh braden says use those
- 8:53hammies and glutes when you run i can
- 8:55feel my glutes today i can feel them
- 8:59you're a really good runner if people
- 9:00don't know like
- 9:03I had some good years.
- 9:04I mean,
- 9:04I think I'm happy that I was able
- 9:06to hold like an eight thirty pace for
- 9:08seven and a half without like no training.
- 9:10So.
- 9:14Denise has run two marathons in her life.
- 9:16Never again.
- 9:17I've done two also.
- 9:18Tessa, my knees can't take it anymore.
- 9:22Yeah.
- 9:22Yeah.
- 9:23So once I got back in the gym,
- 9:25I ran.
- 9:26So I had two and a half miles
- 9:28left.
- 9:28I did ten rounds of four hundred meter
- 9:30run, fifteen burpee pull ups.
- 9:33but I ran on the runner inside.
- 9:34Cause I did not want to go back
- 9:35out on concrete.
- 9:37Like I was just like,
- 9:38my legs just hurt that bad that I
- 9:40was like,
- 9:40I don't know that I can do this
- 9:41anymore.
- 9:44Okay.
- 9:46I had on my Brooks runners,
- 9:49but once I, but once I got inside,
- 9:51I took those off.
- 9:52Um, I wasn't enjoying the,
- 9:54like coming down from the rig each rep.
- 9:57So I put on my flat,
- 9:58my fluxes that I wear, um,
- 10:00And that was fine.
- 10:01I actually feel like that helped a little
- 10:03bit, especially on the runner.
- 10:05So, yeah.
- 10:09Nicole says she won't say it, but yes,
- 10:12she's a really good runner.
- 10:13Yes.
- 10:14I believe she's won the games with some
- 10:16running events.
- 10:17Yeah.
- 10:18So like multiple.
- 10:20I didn't do great last year.
- 10:23You were top three at the run last
- 10:24year.
- 10:24I think I was fourth.
- 10:26Yeah.
- 10:26And I think that you would have been
- 10:27higher up in the thirty five division.
- 10:29I think that's true.
- 10:30I think that's true.
- 10:32Sometimes you just get a field that just
- 10:34happens to have runners in it and then
- 10:36you get lucky in other years because I
- 10:38did better than I thought in that one.
- 10:39I was like, oh, OK.
- 10:39Yeah.
- 10:42Fergie,
- 10:43I run to the ice cream truck when
- 10:44I hear the music.
- 10:46We all have our priorities, Fergie.
- 10:50So, Carolyn,
- 10:51are you willing to share what you did
- 10:53this weekend?
- 10:54Yeah,
- 10:54so this weekend I attended my first level
- 11:00one since twenty fourteen,
- 11:02but this time my role I was getting
- 11:05assessed as my first first of hopefully
- 11:09many assessments to be on seminar staff.
- 11:12So I got the opportunity to kind of
- 11:14see the other side of it and got
- 11:16to teach a few movements throughout the
- 11:17weekend in groups.
- 11:20And, um, yeah, it was just really cool.
- 11:22I mean,
- 11:22ever since I did my first level one,
- 11:25about a year into CrossFit,
- 11:27I looked at the red shirt coaches and
- 11:29seminar staff and I was like, wow,
- 11:30these are amazing, um, you know,
- 11:34coaches and I would love to be on
- 11:36seminar staff one day.
- 11:37And then you go into your level two.
- 11:40you know,
- 11:40and you see them different people doing
- 11:42the courses and it's just like really cool
- 11:44to see and just learn from a lot
- 11:46of like great coaches in the space.
- 11:48What it felt like this weekend was,
- 11:51you know, you grow up playing hockey,
- 11:53let's say for me and you're the best
- 11:54on your team.
- 11:55you know you do well up the ranks
- 11:57all of a sudden you get to university
- 11:59and you got Olympians and you got all
- 12:01these players and you know you're always
- 12:02first line all of a sudden you're like
- 12:03fourth line and that's how I felt like
- 12:05it was like you're a good coach you're
- 12:07you do your level two you're a good
- 12:08coach you get there and you're like it
- 12:10feels like you got so much to learn
- 12:12because the people that you're you know
- 12:14comparing yourself to now is no longer
- 12:16people at some like at a level two
- 12:18Flowmaster and people have been doing it
- 12:20for so long and they're so good at
- 12:22it.
- 12:23So, so good at it.
- 12:24So, um, great experience.
- 12:27Um,
- 12:28they took me under their wing this weekend
- 12:30and I learned a lot from them and
- 12:32things to kind of take into my own
- 12:35coaching going forward.
- 12:37But yeah,
- 12:38it was really exciting and hopefully can
- 12:41continue.
- 12:42this process.
- 12:42Where was it at?
- 12:44CrossFit Cole.
- 12:45So it's about twenty five minutes from
- 12:47where I live,
- 12:47not even twenty twenty twenty five
- 12:49minutes.
- 12:50So we often host level ones and twos
- 12:51at CrossFit Coliseum where I train.
- 12:54And then this is like another one by
- 12:56here that we kind of go back and
- 12:57forth hosting.
- 13:00So it turned out well that
- 13:02I could go there, but yeah,
- 13:03so it was good.
- 13:04Um, yeah, like I said, the,
- 13:06the coaches that like the flow masters and
- 13:08the seminar staff are, are unreal.
- 13:10So, and they have so much experience.
- 13:11So hopefully one day I can be up
- 13:14there with them,
- 13:14but right now still got room to keep
- 13:18going.
- 13:18Um, Larry, Larry Young says, congrats.
- 13:21I know this is exciting for you.
- 13:24And Denise says, how cool.
- 13:26That is cool.
- 13:27What's the difference between this and the
- 13:29level four assessment process?
- 13:33Well,
- 13:33the level four is just like your
- 13:35credential, what you can call yourself.
- 13:38And then you still have to go through
- 13:40like coaching evaluation.
- 13:42But here,
- 13:42like you're actually coaching seminars.
- 13:45Like you can have your level four and
- 13:47you're not, you don't have to coach a,
- 13:49you know,
- 13:50certain lectures or demonstrate movements
- 13:54at all these seminars.
- 13:54So beyond seminar stuff is like you're
- 13:57traveling to different places and sharing
- 13:59the knowledge of CrossFit and what is
- 14:00CrossFit, what is fitness, all of that,
- 14:02the movements.
- 14:04Um, but like your level four, I mean,
- 14:06it helps to have your level four in
- 14:07terms of,
- 14:07you have to have your level four to
- 14:09be on some of our staff.
- 14:10You need at least level three.
- 14:12Okay.
- 14:13So you need at least level three.
- 14:14You could go for your level four, um,
- 14:17down the road road.
- 14:18I, you know,
- 14:19I would want to do that.
- 14:22So yeah, so you do your,
- 14:24your assessment here, but it's just,
- 14:25it's just different than your level four.
- 14:27There are aspects of like me getting
- 14:29evaluated while I'm coaching,
- 14:31let's say a breakout group that I'm sure
- 14:33has some similarities with coaching.
- 14:36Now I'm saying that I don't know how
- 14:37they're evaluating the new level four
- 14:40because the old one I know is extremely
- 14:42difficult to pass.
- 14:44And I don't know about this new style
- 14:46that they have.
- 14:46I haven't seen what it has the people
- 14:49do.
- 14:49Have you watched any of Taylor and
- 14:53Bryson's one-on-ones with Todd and
- 14:56Kristen?
- 14:57No,
- 14:57but I was looking at videos a lot
- 15:00online of different level four coaches and
- 15:03how they're
- 15:04just coaching different breakout groups
- 15:06and active classrooms and stuff like that.
- 15:10Um,
- 15:10and just trying to learn from people
- 15:11online before I had to do it.
- 15:13Yeah.
- 15:14But I feel like those theories have been
- 15:16really good with Bryson and Taylor.
- 15:20Yeah.
- 15:22I, I just, the minute I became,
- 15:25I became aware of what CrossFit,
- 15:27like the whole thing was,
- 15:30the red shirts were always like this, uh,
- 15:33I mean,
- 15:33the standard is here for seminar staff.
- 15:38Yep.
- 15:39Yeah.
- 15:40And the fact that you are training for
- 15:43that is so cool to me.
- 15:47Well, you don't see many athletes even –
- 15:50Like,
- 15:50I don't think there's many current
- 15:51athletes that even have their level three.
- 15:55I think a few of them got their
- 15:56level twos recently.
- 15:58A lot of them have their level ones
- 16:00from what I saw at the games last
- 16:01year.
- 16:02And certainly I don't know of any current
- 16:06games athlete kind of pursuing this part
- 16:08of it.
- 16:09That's because I think they're just too
- 16:10busy with training or doing other things
- 16:13or not prioritizing this over their
- 16:17CrossFit career.
- 16:18But yeah, it's cool.
- 16:21Does being a school teacher help you just
- 16:25with the public speaking part of it?
- 16:27Yeah,
- 16:28I think being a teacher helps for coaching
- 16:30in general.
- 16:32You got like the teacher voice where
- 16:34you're just always speaking loud and not
- 16:38really shy to talk in front of a
- 16:40larger group.
- 16:41um like management of groups and presence
- 16:46and attitude in terms of like always being
- 16:47on like there's a lot of things that
- 16:49can carry over from teaching to crossfit
- 16:51and vice versa so yeah i definitely think
- 16:54that teachers can make good um coaches as
- 17:01well uh mark phillips you don't strike me
- 17:05as someone with a lot of free time
- 17:07no you make time for the things that
- 17:10are important
- 17:12i but you know my impression of carolyn
- 17:15is she would go nuts with a ton
- 17:17of free time yeah like she has to
- 17:21be busy yeah to be happy yeah it's
- 17:25like once i stopped playing hockey which
- 17:28is still kind of comes back in my
- 17:30head they just added four new professional
- 17:31teams and i'm like hmm
- 17:35going to make a comeback um into the
- 17:37new like pwhl league but once i saw
- 17:40rogers resigned he's older than you i'm
- 17:45honestly thinking about putting my name
- 17:46back on on the list um but my
- 17:49weekends opened up because i was always
- 17:52playing on the weekends before and uh now
- 17:54that league plays like during the weekday
- 17:56and stuff but
- 17:57Yeah.
- 17:58I mean, weekends are more open.
- 17:59So then I thought I could have some
- 18:02seminar staff, hopefully,
- 18:04or just apply to it.
- 18:05And then got fortunate enough to be given
- 18:08an opportunity today to showcase my
- 18:11coaching.
- 18:14And I teach.
- 18:15Yeah.
- 18:15Braden asks,
- 18:16are you an elementary PE teacher?
- 18:18You're more than that.
- 18:19So I teach high school math,
- 18:21so grade nine and ten math,
- 18:24which is just general math.
- 18:25We don't specialize math until grade
- 18:26eleven,
- 18:27like with functions and everything.
- 18:29And then fitness grade nine to twelve,
- 18:32so high school.
- 18:33All right.
- 18:42I travel for work and visit about twenty
- 18:43different gyms a year.
- 18:45I have yet gone to an actual good
- 18:47class.
- 18:48what?
- 18:49Ninety eight percent of CrossFit coaches
- 18:51are men.
- 18:51Nothing new.
- 18:52Same cues.
- 18:53No excitement.
- 18:54That's crazy because I used to travel for
- 18:56work and I traveled all over the country.
- 18:59And I would say the exact opposite.
- 19:02Two percent were bad and ninety eight
- 19:04percent were good.
- 19:07And I would say even comparing to coaches
- 19:09I've seen in other even professional
- 19:13sports.
- 19:14And some of the cues given there and
- 19:16coaching and movement,
- 19:18I think CrossFit coaches are like very
- 19:22high in terms of their knowledge of
- 19:24movements and just how they coach it.
- 19:30Yeah, I would agree with you, Scott,
- 19:31that there's,
- 19:31I don't know how high the percentage I
- 19:35would put.
- 19:35Yeah.
- 19:36If I'd go to ninety eight,
- 19:37but there's certainly a lot of very,
- 19:40very good coaches out there.
- 19:42Yeah, I probably would.
- 19:44Ninety eight is a little high, I think,
- 19:45for me.
- 19:45Yeah,
- 19:45I would say ninety ten probably was my
- 19:48experience in all truth.
- 19:51I can only remember one really bad
- 19:53experience.
- 19:56Really bad, but other than that,
- 19:58like it's I've had great experience.
- 20:01Brayden promises not to get you off topic
- 20:03anymore, but he's an elementary teacher.
- 20:06Do you do a session before and after
- 20:09school?
- 20:09No more questions.
- 20:11So sometimes it's at lunch.
- 20:14Sometimes I can't work out at school
- 20:15because I just get busy or I get
- 20:17pulled out to cover for another teachers
- 20:20because sometimes they don't have enough
- 20:21subs.
- 20:22So you're covering if I can.
- 20:25So at the high school level,
- 20:27at least in Canada,
- 20:28you get one period of lesson prep time.
- 20:32So three days a week,
- 20:33I try to work out during my lesson
- 20:36prep time,
- 20:37which is normally seventy five minutes
- 20:39that you have.
- 20:41But by the time I get to the
- 20:42room and get ready,
- 20:44like I probably get about an hour and
- 20:46So I try to get conditioning done and
- 20:50a couple of my lifts that I have
- 20:52for the day.
- 20:53And I'll often use the conditioning as my
- 20:55warmup just to save time.
- 20:56It just happens to be like that.
- 20:59And then after school,
- 21:01I'll finish what I have.
- 21:02But there's plenty of times where I just
- 21:06am a little bit tired from school and
- 21:08I don't finish it or I have to
- 21:09take a little power nap after school
- 21:10because I'm tired.
- 21:12But...
- 21:13That's the beauty of it because I program
- 21:14for myself.
- 21:15So, I mean,
- 21:16if I don't get to something, I'm like,
- 21:17okay, well,
- 21:17I'll make sure to do this next week.
- 21:22Like I don't have to go and report
- 21:24to someone what I missed or what I
- 21:26didn't do.
- 21:27Like I'm my own boss, I guess,
- 21:29for that.
- 21:30And you run an affiliate out of the
- 21:33school.
- 21:34Yes, mostly at lunchtime.
- 21:37So the fitness class that I teach,
- 21:39I use a lot of like –
- 21:41my knowledge in CrossFit and I like I
- 21:43teach a lot of CrossFit through the PE
- 21:47program.
- 21:49Last question, I swear.
- 21:51Tessa wants to know,
- 21:51do your students realize how bad how bad
- 21:55ass you are at CrossFit?
- 21:57I think some of them do and a
- 21:59lot of them don't.
- 22:00I think a lot of them know that
- 22:01I work out.
- 22:03A lot of them don't know what I
- 22:04do.
- 22:05Um, someone asked me if I could do,
- 22:08uh, a bar muscle up the other day.
- 22:11And I was like, yes.
- 22:13And they're like, really?
- 22:14You can do a bar muscle up.
- 22:16And I was like, yes.
- 22:17I was like, we do it in CrossFit,
- 22:20but like, they don't understand like that.
- 22:21Like that's like equivalent to like,
- 22:23you know, asking a basketball player, um,
- 22:26can he do a three pointer?
- 22:27Like for like someone of like our level
- 22:29that it could do it.
- 22:30Right.
- 22:31So they're all like,
- 22:33it was like a group of grade nine
- 22:34boys that were trying to work on their,
- 22:36on their bar muscle up.
- 22:37But yeah.
- 22:39So some,
- 22:39some do most of them don't know what
- 22:41I do.
- 22:42And Vicki says when she grows up,
- 22:44she wants to be like you and Jamie.
- 22:46We had a new member recently.
- 22:49He's been there about two and a half
- 22:51weeks now.
- 22:52Last week he was,
- 22:53the rings were hanging down and he was
- 22:54like,
- 22:56I don't know how I put it,
- 22:57but basically I asked what they were out
- 22:58for, like, what can people do on these?
- 23:00And so I jumped up and did a
- 23:01ring muscle for him.
- 23:02He was like amazed.
- 23:07It was cute.
- 23:08Yeah, I can imagine.
- 23:10Well,
- 23:10there was some CrossFit this weekend.
- 23:14The beauty of it was it all happened
- 23:15overnight for me.
- 23:18And so...
- 23:19i i could catch up in the morning
- 23:21heck i even watched a couple events in
- 23:23the middle of the night yep um and
- 23:26so it was really easy to catch up
- 23:28we had torian we had rebel renegade games
- 23:32and that's just the appetizer because this
- 23:34weekend we have three more events and
- 23:37they're all going to be stacked yes it's
- 23:40going to be insane i
- 23:44I know we complain about the CrossFit game
- 23:46season all the time,
- 23:47but the fact that you have three stacked
- 23:50competitions all on the same weekend is
- 23:53really bad planning.
- 23:54It's the last chance to qualify of
- 23:55in-person this weekend.
- 23:57One in Europe, one on the East Coast,
- 23:59one on the West Coast in the States.
- 24:02And these are the last ones, right?
- 24:04They are.
- 24:04This is it.
- 24:05Yeah, and after that, it's online.
- 24:07I think, well,
- 24:08there's the LATAM for Masters.
- 24:09Correct.
- 24:10But that's the only one left.
- 24:12Yep.
- 24:15um so torian was this weekend we'll start
- 24:19with torian it it was giving away three
- 24:22tickets on the men's side women's side and
- 24:25three tickets for the teams came in with
- 24:30the men's side really was a four horse
- 24:33race for three spots yeah and the results
- 24:39were that ricky gerrard won
- 24:42Jay Crouch took second.
- 24:43I think a lot of people predicted that,
- 24:45the first two.
- 24:47And the third spot went to Bailey Martin.
- 24:52On the outside looking in is Justin
- 24:53Medeiros.
- 24:58I'll do the women's winners and then we'll
- 24:59get into the details of stuff.
- 25:01On the women's side, Maddie Sturt won.
- 25:05She didn't have a great start to the
- 25:06weekend, but she finished really,
- 25:08really strong.
- 25:11Ellie Turner came in second,
- 25:14came out of nowhere,
- 25:16and Kyra Milligan went from the United
- 25:19States over and got a game spot.
- 25:25The only person I think that people had
- 25:27picked in the top three that wasn't there
- 25:29was Gracie Walton.
- 25:30Yes, correct.
- 25:32And she didn't have a great weekend,
- 25:33and we'll probably get into that a little
- 25:35bit.
- 25:36The first thing I want to start with
- 25:38is
- 25:41for the first time you could tell that
- 25:44that house was packed of all the
- 25:49semifinals yeah torian's always packed
- 25:52right didn't matter where the camera angle
- 25:54was you could tell the seats were full
- 25:58i mean there were gaps but my goodness
- 26:00it was pretty full compared to what we've
- 26:02been seeing yes yes and they're always
- 26:06like that yeah like it just looks like
- 26:08such a time there
- 26:11Well, and they,
- 26:11they pair it with a community event,
- 26:14which I thought was really cool that the
- 26:16community event got to go on the floor
- 26:19for day one.
- 26:21And then the rest of it,
- 26:21they have an outdoor area where they
- 26:24completed the community event,
- 26:27but it really draws in a lot of
- 26:29people because of that.
- 26:33And it's,
- 26:33it is the one event in Australia every
- 26:36year, right?
- 26:38For the spectators there,
- 26:39that is their games.
- 26:42And so they bring the fireworks,
- 26:44they bring the fire,
- 26:45they bring the dancing,
- 26:47they bring the music,
- 26:49they bring it all for that.
- 26:51And our games don't even do that.
- 26:53No.
- 26:58So it is,
- 26:59it is a sight to behold.
- 27:02Like whenever people finish the flame
- 27:05shoots up every time it's awesome.
- 27:14And you guys have any thoughts on the
- 27:16ambiance and the crowds or anything?
- 27:19And it's like the dancers and then they
- 27:21bring like Royce there and Khan's
- 27:23competing, isn't he?
- 27:24And he's there dancing as well.
- 27:25Like before he goes out for his own
- 27:27heat.
- 27:30No,
- 27:30like the vibe that just makes you want
- 27:32to go and compete there.
- 27:34You know,
- 27:34Khan's there just to have a good time.
- 27:36Right.
- 27:37Right.
- 27:38Right.
- 27:40I interviewed him last year at the Masters
- 27:42Games.
- 27:42He wanted to podium at the Masters Games.
- 27:46But here,
- 27:47I think he just wanted to go out
- 27:48and have a good time.
- 27:49That's a good tune-up.
- 27:51Why not compete against the best of the
- 27:55best?
- 27:56That was some stiff competition there.
- 27:59And you could tell when he finished that
- 28:00snatch ladder,
- 28:01he was through the roof excited.
- 28:07It was awesome.
- 28:08He was doing good.
- 28:09Like,
- 28:10He was in the middle heat.
- 28:11He was doing fairly good.
- 28:14Yeah.
- 28:15It's too bad he couldn't finish the
- 28:16weekend.
- 28:19Yeah.
- 28:20I love that guy because he always has
- 28:23a smile on his face.
- 28:26And just nostalgia-wise,
- 28:28he's had some epic comebacks at regionals
- 28:30back in the day.
- 28:33Yeah.
- 28:36Yeah, it's a good event.
- 28:37It always is.
- 28:38The programming was good.
- 28:39Yeah, the programming was awesome,
- 28:41and it looked awesome.
- 28:44Yeah.
- 28:46I'm trying to think if there was any
- 28:48of that one that the flow, like,
- 28:53I feel like every event had a good
- 28:55flow.
- 28:57Tessa says,
- 28:58Australia is like that in general.
- 29:00Best vacation I've ever had.
- 29:04They know how to get it done there.
- 29:06The dancers were awesome.
- 29:11Bailey looks fire.
- 29:12Yeah.
- 29:17I will say watching both this weekend.
- 29:21And I remember last year,
- 29:23I actually really enjoyed rebel running
- 29:25eight games.
- 29:25So I was kind of excited to watch
- 29:26it this year too.
- 29:27I know it's only one spot.
- 29:28Um,
- 29:29but I actually think they do a really
- 29:30good job there.
- 29:33their broadcast is really good.
- 29:34Their camera work is usually pretty good.
- 29:36Um, but I will say,
- 29:38I think we got super spoiled with French
- 29:39throwdown and all weekend.
- 29:41I was just like, who's in this?
- 29:44Like, what's this workout?
- 29:46Like I kept looking up nothing on either.
- 29:48And I'm like, what the Frick?
- 29:49We like, we're going backwards.
- 29:54Yeah.
- 29:54I, um,
- 29:57someone's asking,
- 29:58I can't remember who it was asking me
- 29:59about the broadcast at Torian.
- 30:03I felt like they're,
- 30:04they used to be really good and it's
- 30:06like, they've taken a step back.
- 30:08Yes, I agree.
- 30:10I, again,
- 30:11we're back to watching people lay on the
- 30:12ground at the finish line when other
- 30:14people are crossing.
- 30:15Yep.
- 30:18Um,
- 30:20the commentators were talking about a
- 30:22person in one lane and the cameras on
- 30:24another lane.
- 30:24Yup.
- 30:24That's how it,
- 30:26Like,
- 30:26it just didn't seem to be tied together
- 30:29at all.
- 30:30Nope.
- 30:35Yeah,
- 30:36they would miss a lot of the finishes.
- 30:38Yes.
- 30:39I mean, they didn't even have Kyra,
- 30:40did they?
- 30:41I was just about to say that.
- 30:41Kyra's winning the snatch,
- 30:44and they're filming someone else,
- 30:45and then they're like, oh,
- 30:46and Kyra just... And I was like,
- 30:47I had to see it from another angle
- 30:50of, like, replays or something.
- 30:52But you'd want to see it live where
- 30:54you're not filming...
- 30:56you know, the,
- 30:58another athlete or something,
- 30:59especially when you know that person's
- 31:00stepping up to the barbell and it's
- 31:01clearly leading the whole race.
- 31:03Like you should know to put the camera
- 31:05there.
- 31:05They only have eight lanes there.
- 31:07Like that's an easy floor to just show
- 31:10us when,
- 31:10especially when you're racing that fast,
- 31:12like just have that side side view of
- 31:15showing the, so we can see the finish.
- 31:19I, I don't know.
- 31:20What I have to give WFP credit for
- 31:23is they have that finish line cam and
- 31:27that they can go back to replays or
- 31:28whatever and watch the finish line happen
- 31:32if a media member doesn't get in the
- 31:34way.
- 31:37And I will say this for Torian,
- 31:40there weren't a lot of media on the
- 31:41floor.
- 31:45Yeah.
- 31:45There were one or two people walking with
- 31:47cameras,
- 31:48but they were very good about like just
- 31:51kind of going out when they wanted to
- 31:53get a shot and coming right back off.
- 31:56I saw them more than I would like
- 31:57to see them in the King Arthur's event.
- 32:02I didn't notice them,
- 32:03but I was looking for them during other
- 32:06events and noticed that they weren't out
- 32:10there as much.
- 32:12I don't think I noticed them in the
- 32:13Snatch event, which is good.
- 32:14They should not be out there in that
- 32:15event.
- 32:17Yeah,
- 32:17there's way too much going on on the
- 32:19floor for media to be out there.
- 32:24Um, yeah, I was going to say,
- 32:26I just missed like the scores at the
- 32:28top or like where people are in the
- 32:29race.
- 32:29Like, like you said,
- 32:30we get spoiled sometimes at certain,
- 32:32certain broadcasts doing that.
- 32:34And then others, when they don't,
- 32:35you realize how, how important that is,
- 32:37especially in our sport to.
- 32:39To see the evolution of the race.
- 32:41When it's not just a one trip down.
- 32:43But multiple back and forth movements.
- 32:46On the floor.
- 32:47That's when you're really needing.
- 32:49Some sort of guideline.
- 32:51Because we know the sport.
- 32:52But if you're just a viewer that doesn't
- 32:54know.
- 32:55You're completely lost.
- 32:57Especially when the commentary isn't.
- 33:01Like,
- 33:01when they aren't calling the right things
- 33:03or which race is out there, like, yes,
- 33:06you need that banner ticker at the top
- 33:08so you can follow along the races.
- 33:11Eric Mackey asks, naively,
- 33:13how hard is it to split the screen
- 33:14wide shot and move the highlight screen?
- 33:18I don't know.
- 33:19I mean, Matt Souza can do it with...
- 33:23like not high-end equipment.
- 33:26And I'm betting that they're pulling
- 33:27people in for Torian that have a lot
- 33:32more experience.
- 33:35I love the use of split screen when
- 33:37it's done in a good way.
- 33:39I agree.
- 33:42Yeah,
- 33:42we would need Suza to chime in on
- 33:43that.
- 33:48I had no clue what the workouts were.
- 33:49Maybe they said it, but I never heard.
- 33:53I think it was a flash up of
- 33:54a graphic real quick at the beginning.
- 33:56Correct.
- 33:57When they're in the middle of a workout,
- 33:58I can't remember.
- 34:00Hell, I can't remember my own workout.
- 34:02I've got to squint for the whiteboard.
- 34:05Right?
- 34:06Right.
- 34:07The way French put the workout across the
- 34:10top and highlighted it as the leaders went
- 34:12along was like chef's kiss amazing.
- 34:23Anna Shoup, I miss Peter.
- 34:25He has so much personality and kept me
- 34:26engaged.
- 34:27And I would know what was going on
- 34:29when listening along on my AirPods.
- 34:32Agree.
- 34:33What's funny, though,
- 34:34is Jeremy Austin has been listed as a
- 34:37great commentator for many, many years.
- 34:41But his sidekick keeps changing over the
- 34:46years.
- 34:46So I don't know if that's what's changing
- 34:50up.
- 34:52Or maybe Jeremy's out there too much now
- 34:54with the WFP that people are now just
- 35:00like anything else.
- 35:01Tony Romo was the best when he first
- 35:03came into the NFL,
- 35:05and now people can't stand him.
- 35:12So...
- 35:16Yeah,
- 35:16Rebel had some trouble with their camera
- 35:18work, too.
- 35:19The difference I noticed this year was
- 35:21they had that big Jumbotron in the middle,
- 35:23and that definitely messed up where the
- 35:25camera,
- 35:26like they weren't sure which side of the
- 35:28floor to show.
- 35:30And in the snatch workout,
- 35:31that was a bit of an issue.
- 35:34But did you see that one at all?
- 35:36Did you see the...
- 35:38Are you jumping ahead to Rebel Renegade?
- 35:39Yeah, I am,
- 35:40because we're going to broadcast.
- 35:43I have to save it.
- 35:44No, we have a rundown here.
- 35:46Okay.
- 35:47I'll wait.
- 35:51Speaking of chef's kiss,
- 35:53you know what's amazing is the salted
- 35:54caramel chocolate with Thirdsy.
- 35:56It is.
- 35:58And you can get it using code Jazzy.
- 36:01Gets you fifteen percent off at checkout.
- 36:04That's Thirdsy.com backslash Jazzy.
- 36:07And this weekend...
- 36:09they are giving proceeds to a veterans
- 36:14charity for MRF weekend,
- 36:16Memorial Day MRF weekend.
- 36:18So not only can you get some money
- 36:21off,
- 36:22your money will also go to support
- 36:26veterans charities this weekend as well.
- 36:33Okay.
- 36:36Ales fam says Pip's been with him for
- 36:38years.
- 36:39What I was saying is because Jeremy's
- 36:40doing WFP and that the sidekick is
- 36:45changing throughout.
- 36:47He's had Gabby Magala.
- 36:48He's had Tommy Marquez.
- 36:50He's had Annie Thor's daughter.
- 36:51He's had Katrin David's daughter.
- 36:53And now Pip.
- 36:55Well, and always Pip.
- 36:58Tia came on the broadcast a little bit.
- 37:00Did you guys hear her?
- 37:01Yeah.
- 37:01I did not.
- 37:03I did not.
- 37:05I don't know for which event.
- 37:07He tried to ask her if she's coming
- 37:08back for X.
- 37:09It was during the King Arthur's.
- 37:11I know.
- 37:12He was pushing that.
- 37:13That was funny.
- 37:15He tried to find out.
- 37:16He's like, I mean,
- 37:19you retired like ten years ago.
- 37:20Keep going.
- 37:21Yeah.
- 37:26Yeah, because she had done that event,
- 37:28the original event.
- 37:29She was kind of commentating on that.
- 37:36Jar Jar doesn't like Jeremy,
- 37:37but he likes CrossFit.
- 37:39But I do want to point this out.
- 37:41Use the same argument for Sean Woodland,
- 37:43and he also doesn't have much to add
- 37:44when commentating.
- 37:46First of all,
- 37:47Sean's job is not to add content.
- 37:50Sean's job is to tell you what's happening
- 37:52on the floor.
- 37:53Right.
- 37:54The person beside Sean,
- 37:56their job is to add color and give
- 38:00input as to what's going on on the
- 38:02floor.
- 38:04That's a play-by-play person.
- 38:05That's Sean.
- 38:07Color commentating is what the other
- 38:09person does.
- 38:10But Sean does his homework on a lot
- 38:13of athletes in terms of what they've done
- 38:14historically.
- 38:16But that's play-by-play work.
- 38:18Yeah, yeah.
- 38:22I'm defending Sean.
- 38:23That's what I'm saying.
- 38:24Me too.
- 38:25I'm defending Jeremy.
- 38:32Okay.
- 38:37So anyway,
- 38:41we had a couple storylines at Torian.
- 38:44I just want to touch on.
- 38:46One is the redemption stories.
- 38:52Ellie Turner has been out since the twenty
- 38:54twenty three CrossFit games with a back
- 38:58injury.
- 39:00And.
- 39:02she i honest to god coming into this
- 39:05weekend i was like there's no way she
- 39:07has a chance the way she looked at
- 39:09wadapalooza i didn't think she had
- 39:12snowball's chance in hell of qualifying
- 39:14for the games she came in to this
- 39:17weekend and she tore it up with a
- 39:20running event to start okay i heard that
- 39:24on your lunch show she's not a bad
- 39:26runner i don't know where you thought that
- 39:27she was a bad runner
- 39:31She has never been a horrible runner.
- 39:34She's always done.
- 39:35And that's like what she's been doing so
- 39:37many triathlons.
- 39:38Now,
- 39:38if you look at her scores on her
- 39:40times on her runs, she was a very,
- 39:42like,
- 39:42she's a good runner and she has been
- 39:44for the last,
- 39:44she also has a bad back with a
- 39:45rock, but she's been running so much.
- 39:49Like when you said that on the lunch,
- 39:50I was like, she's not a bad runner.
- 39:52She's good runner.
- 39:53I'm like,
- 39:53I was not surprised at all to see
- 39:55her take that event.
- 39:57I don't know that I would pick her
- 39:58to win it.
- 40:00Yeah,
- 40:00I definitely didn't pick her to win it.
- 40:02She'd be a top five for sure for
- 40:03me.
- 40:05And then you add Ruck,
- 40:06and she's got strong legs.
- 40:08Yeah, I think the Ruck helped.
- 40:10I mean,
- 40:10obviously helped her if she won it, but...
- 40:15The other redemptive story is Bailey
- 40:17Martin could not finish Torian last year
- 40:20with a heart condition.
- 40:22As someone who's been through that for the
- 40:23last couple years...
- 40:25That is like,
- 40:27it takes so much out of you when
- 40:29that happens.
- 40:31And the fact that he came in and
- 40:34grabbed a spot a year later is extremely
- 40:39impressive to me.
- 40:42And kudos to Modern Medicine.
- 40:47Yeah.
- 40:47For getting him back to do that.
- 40:50I probably would have, I mean,
- 40:52I think I would have figured Ellie would
- 40:54have been fourth.
- 40:56but mostly because I thought Grace Walton
- 40:59would be up there.
- 40:59And since she pulled out it,
- 41:02it's not like the biggest surprise.
- 41:03I mean, you either,
- 41:05the thing with Ellie is I figure she's
- 41:06either going to make it through the
- 41:07weekend and do well, or she's just,
- 41:09or she's going to withdraw and not
- 41:11complete the weekend.
- 41:12So I don't think this is an extremely
- 41:15surprising placement,
- 41:17especially with Grace not being there at
- 41:20the end.
- 41:21That Isabella Vallejo, whatever,
- 41:24she was incredible.
- 41:25She was incredible.
- 41:27I was very impressed by her.
- 41:28I was impressed, too.
- 41:29She put up a good fight.
- 41:31But Ellie didn't just qualify.
- 41:32She beat Kyra.
- 41:33I know.
- 41:35Like, it wasn't just qualifying.
- 41:38She led half the weekend.
- 41:40I mean, that run just...
- 41:42That run had her kind of a shoe-in.
- 41:46You know?
- 41:47Once she had that, she kind of...
- 41:49She needed to just not implode,
- 41:51and she kind of had it.
- 41:53Ellie just had one bad event,
- 41:54and it was the – I think it
- 41:55was the twenty-first place or the
- 41:57twentieth place on the event five,
- 41:59the second part.
- 42:01The hand-stand-a-walk pistol host-a-bar,
- 42:03I think it was.
- 42:04That one she didn't do as well,
- 42:06but that is a lot of hinging,
- 42:08and then upside down,
- 42:10so maybe she was being cautious there.
- 42:13Yeah.
- 42:13But she looked great all weekend.
- 42:16Maddie was just consistent,
- 42:17a little bit slower start on the run,
- 42:18but then just kind of smooth sailing.
- 42:20And Kyra did honestly what she needed to
- 42:23do on the run.
- 42:25She was in the middle of the pack.
- 42:26Like I think she finished twenty first on
- 42:27the run.
- 42:29And when you have forty athletes,
- 42:30Kyra back then would finish twenty
- 42:33somewhere between thirty five and forty.
- 42:35Yep.
- 42:35So for her to cut that in half,
- 42:37that's a huge win for her.
- 42:39And I bet you she was I mean,
- 42:41she'll never be satisfied with a twenty
- 42:42first place,
- 42:43but I'm sure that that wasn't the worst
- 42:45position that she could have been in for
- 42:46the rest of the weekend,
- 42:47knowing that some of her strengths were
- 42:49coming up and, you know,
- 42:50the squat snatch one and a few of
- 42:53the other ones that she did really well
- 42:54on.
- 42:54So she looked great all weekend.
- 42:56um she how long has it been since
- 42:58she's been to the games at one or
- 42:59two years yeah i wanted to correct eric
- 43:01uh kyra's never made the games yes she
- 43:04has yes uh she was at the games
- 43:07in twenty twenty four for sure yeah i
- 43:09think yeah so it's been two years last
- 43:14year and then well she went team with
- 43:18that was the year before twenty twenty
- 43:19four but like as an individual she's been
- 43:22there once
- 43:24has she been demo as well?
- 43:26Yes.
- 43:26Yes.
- 43:27One time demo one time as an individual.
- 43:31And I think plenty of times on the
- 43:32team, which was demo last year.
- 43:36Um, Larry Young says, well, Scott,
- 43:38if you come back next year with those
- 43:40abs,
- 43:40I'll be manufacturing a heart condition.
- 43:44Just you wait, Larry, just you wait.
- 43:49Um,
- 43:54Larry Bailey looks jacked.
- 43:55Yes, he did.
- 43:59All right.
- 44:01The other storyline was Justin.
- 44:05Yeah.
- 44:09I'm bummed for him,
- 44:09but that was an incredibly tough,
- 44:13that's a huge risk to take to go
- 44:15over there and try to take it from
- 44:17one of those guys.
- 44:19I mean, I,
- 44:21And I don't know what it was.
- 44:22I saw on Savan,
- 44:23they were talking about this a little bit.
- 44:24I think he's been over there for three,
- 44:26four weeks.
- 44:26I don't think it was a, you know,
- 44:29it's not a jet lag thing.
- 44:30They've been there.
- 44:32They've been, I don't know,
- 44:35just really good competition.
- 44:38Yeah, I mean, those top guys, I mean,
- 44:40you look at Jay and Ricky,
- 44:42like those are, you know,
- 44:44Top ten guys at the games,
- 44:45top eight guys at the games.
- 44:48Bailey normally is not a top ten, but,
- 44:51like, maybe a top fifteen at the best,
- 44:53top twelve.
- 44:55Could be, but, yeah, that field was good.
- 44:58He had a couple lackluster-ish finish that
- 45:02he just can't have that.
- 45:03I think he – Or, sorry,
- 45:05Ricky finished all top fives.
- 45:06Right.
- 45:06All of them.
- 45:09I think Justin went out a little too
- 45:11hot to try to take a shot at
- 45:14some of those workouts and it backfired.
- 45:17Like he went out hot on that sled
- 45:19one and that cost.
- 45:21He lost like seven spots on the final
- 45:24sled pool.
- 45:24Yeah.
- 45:25Like, and he,
- 45:27he died at the end of so many
- 45:29workouts.
- 45:30That's what concerns me.
- 45:32Agreed.
- 45:34By watching him.
- 45:35But I'll say this too.
- 45:40The three men had one goal,
- 45:43and it was to not let Justin go.
- 45:46Right.
- 45:46And I think that gave those other three
- 45:51a chip on their shoulder that carried them
- 45:53through the weekend.
- 45:55And I think every time Bailey got ahead
- 45:57of Justin, the crowd erupted.
- 46:03Not being on home turf,
- 46:05like home field advantage is such a big
- 46:07thing in all of sports.
- 46:09And when you go over there to compete,
- 46:11and now the crowd is against you because
- 46:13they want their guys to go, not you,
- 46:17it was blatantly off.
- 46:19And it was so funny because on the
- 46:20women's side,
- 46:21you didn't hear that with Kyra.
- 46:23Kyra?
- 46:23Not at all.
- 46:24Kyra.
- 46:24Yeah, I agree.
- 46:27But on the men's side,
- 46:29you could hear audibly the crowd erupt
- 46:32every time Bayley got ahead of Justin.
- 46:34I mean...
- 46:37who did he have there supporting him other
- 46:38than Ellie?
- 46:39And she's probably Ellie's family.
- 46:43She's probably getting, yeah,
- 46:44but she's probably getting warmed up or
- 46:46like, you know what I'm saying?
- 46:46Like, or did the women go first?
- 46:49I can't remember now.
- 46:50It bounced back and forth.
- 46:52I just like,
- 46:53she can't be out there cheering.
- 46:55Like, and that's,
- 46:56you have one person there.
- 46:58That's like that.
- 46:59Yeah.
- 46:59That you don't have people screaming for
- 47:01you the way they, they did.
- 47:05I was born for him though.
- 47:06I really wanted him to qualify,
- 47:07but I know that he can,
- 47:09he can punch a ticket online if he
- 47:11gets some good workouts for sure.
- 47:14And the three men are proven athletes.
- 47:16So it's almost like a team thing too.
- 47:20Well, and so is Kyra.
- 47:22I think that's part of why you didn't
- 47:24hear that.
- 47:25I,
- 47:27Like Kyra,
- 47:28all of Australia is proven basically.
- 47:29Yeah.
- 47:31And Kyra.
- 47:32So Kyra like has her,
- 47:34I think she gets to train with Maddie
- 47:35a lot.
- 47:38Yeah.
- 47:38I think that's the bigger thing.
- 47:42The only people that weren't proven was
- 47:43the HWPO team that took second.
- 47:46Yep.
- 47:47Jake Douglas, Jake Marconi, Jake Marconi,
- 47:53George Fryer, which I love her.
- 47:56So, yeah.
- 47:58But it was, I,
- 48:03ever since Justin kind of did, started,
- 48:07let me see, facilitating Boys Interrupted,
- 48:09like kind of running the show,
- 48:12I've had a softer heart for him and
- 48:14wanted him to do better.
- 48:17And it was very concerning to me the
- 48:20way the workouts went for him.
- 48:23Not the placement,
- 48:25just the way it looked visually.
- 48:27Right.
- 48:29That's where I was concerned.
- 48:30Just dying,
- 48:31like literally dying at the end.
- 48:34Is that a pacing issue?
- 48:36Are you going out too hot?
- 48:39Yeah, I agree.
- 48:40It is a little concerning.
- 48:44And it happened in a lot of workouts
- 48:46where he lost multiple places on like the
- 48:49last phase of the workout.
- 48:52Do you think that he waits for online
- 48:54or tries to go?
- 48:57Does he still have NTC in the lineup?
- 49:00There's no way he's flying sixteen hours
- 49:02and competing.
- 49:08The jet it's a twelve hour time
- 49:10difference.
- 49:12And he's been over there for three or
- 49:13four weeks.
- 49:18I think it has to be online.
- 49:19Yeah, I would maybe wait for online.
- 49:22You think that he waits there and does
- 49:23the online there?
- 49:27To not have to deal with a few
- 49:29weeks of not great training or just kind
- 49:31of being off?
- 49:34What's online?
- 49:34June eleventh weekend?
- 49:37Three weeks?
- 49:37They have family there with Ellie's
- 49:41family.
- 49:42He could just stay there and stick it
- 49:43out for...
- 49:47Until the online.
- 49:49So Joe asks,
- 49:50do you think he needs to focus and
- 49:51take a break from Boys Interrupted?
- 49:53I think he did fine in all the
- 49:54other phases, and it actually pushed him.
- 50:00He could have just had an off weekend,
- 50:02like ate something wrong,
- 50:05something didn't settle right,
- 50:08didn't get sleep.
- 50:09Who knows?
- 50:12We don't get to see all the other
- 50:14stuff other than what happens on the
- 50:16floor.
- 50:17No,
- 50:17I don't think doing a podcast once a
- 50:20week is taken away from people's training
- 50:23like that.
- 50:24There's no way like that.
- 50:25And if you can't,
- 50:27if that is too much on your plate,
- 50:28then you have other issues.
- 50:30Because that's really not that much to do
- 50:32a one hour,
- 50:34one hour and a half podcast a week.
- 50:36And you don't have another job than
- 50:37training.
- 50:38Carolyn does it every week,
- 50:40teaches a full-time job,
- 50:43works out at lunch and after school,
- 50:46grades papers in the evening,
- 50:48is trying to get on seminar staff,
- 50:51and now wants to play hockey.
- 50:55So I think that Justin is okay with
- 50:57his hour and a half podcast.
- 51:01Um, it's so funny because,
- 51:03and this isn't even on a rundown,
- 51:05I'm going off the rails,
- 51:07but girls interrupt girls unfiltered last
- 51:09week.
- 51:12I always call it girls interrupted as
- 51:13well.
- 51:17They,
- 51:17they had a conversation about how they
- 51:19don't do other sports now because they're
- 51:22afraid of getting hurt and they don't do
- 51:24all this stuff.
- 51:25And I'm just thinking like,
- 51:29if what was the one like like i
- 51:32get it you don't want to be ricky
- 51:35and jump your mountain bike off of a
- 51:37lamp right right but going for a bike
- 51:40ride through the woods or going on a
- 51:42trail with your bike should not be off
- 51:44limits because you're training going to
- 51:46play ball with friends it could help you
- 51:50to re-energize to clean out the the
- 51:54cobwebs in the brain
- 51:56And I look at you two and how
- 51:59busy you are in a day,
- 52:00and you still compete,
- 52:02and you still do finish at some of
- 52:05the highest levels.
- 52:09I think that we have gone so far,
- 52:14and I'm going to sound like the old
- 52:16man shouting at the clouds.
- 52:17You know,
- 52:19the older athletes in the early teens
- 52:22worked jobs, worked seminar staff,
- 52:24owned affiliates, did all of that stuff,
- 52:28and still competed and performed well at
- 52:30the games.
- 52:31Then all of a sudden,
- 52:32there was this attitude that we're
- 52:34professional athletes and that's all we
- 52:36should do.
- 52:38Then Matt Frazier said in an interview one
- 52:40time that he doesn't even cut his own
- 52:42meat because he doesn't want to get cut.
- 52:44And now,
- 52:44while we can't do anything unsafe,
- 52:47Because it may affect our training.
- 52:49It may affect us at the games.
- 52:51It may affect us at semifinals.
- 52:54I think we have swung this pendulum way
- 52:57too far to one side.
- 53:01It could be something in their sponsorship
- 53:05contracts.
- 53:06We don't know that.
- 53:09I've never had a sponsor of any sort,
- 53:10so I have no idea what kind of
- 53:11clauses get put in these.
- 53:14The fact now that I think that's part
- 53:16of the difference is
- 53:18The older athletes worked in a gym,
- 53:21owned a gym.
- 53:24This wasn't their livelihood, really.
- 53:28I mean,
- 53:29they didn't make hundreds of thousands on
- 53:32sponsors back then and base their
- 53:36livelihood around this.
- 53:37They did it in...
- 53:41I don't know.
- 53:42I mean,
- 53:42Aaron and I sort of talked about this,
- 53:43too,
- 53:43because I agree at one point you shouldn't
- 53:47be afraid to go play sports.
- 53:48But I don't think I'd go play basketball
- 53:53games, really.
- 53:54I mean, you're not going to go motocross,
- 53:58and you're not going to do certain things.
- 53:59Should you be able to go play pickleball?
- 54:01For sure.
- 54:01Should you be able to easy cycle?
- 54:03For sure.
- 54:04Should you be able to golf?
- 54:05For sure.
- 54:07I don't know that I would play like
- 54:08team.
- 54:08I wouldn't even go play like dodgeball.
- 54:10or a softball game like carolyn would and
- 54:16carolyn played freaking hockey because she
- 54:18played hockey so she's like super
- 54:20comfortable in that sport would she go
- 54:22play a new new game i don't know
- 54:23maybe you would um i would here's my
- 54:31thing you say sponsorships
- 54:33There is nobody stricter than an NFL team
- 54:36when they sign a contract of what you're
- 54:38allowed to do because the team owns you
- 54:42under that contract.
- 54:44We know Tyson Bajent because in the
- 54:47CrossFit space, he is getting exposure.
- 54:49Guy goes and plays basketball.
- 54:51Guy goes and does the craziest freaking
- 54:53workout under the sun.
- 54:56And the Bears aren't stripping him of his
- 54:59money because of it.
- 55:00That means there's no clause in his
- 55:02contract for that.
- 55:04Yeah,
- 55:04but he's also the backup quarterback.
- 55:07Like... Sixteen million dollar contract.
- 55:10Sixteen million.
- 55:12There's no sponsorship contract that is
- 55:15that high in CrossFit.
- 55:17I know, but he isn't...
- 55:21It's totally different.
- 55:23No, it's not.
- 55:24It is, because he's the backup.
- 55:25That'd be like... That'd be like
- 55:29I don't know,
- 55:29somebody who's like not even making the
- 55:31games really or like fortieth all the
- 55:33time.
- 55:34Say like,
- 55:35I don't know that they have that same
- 55:36thought process.
- 55:38As your as your top ten people who
- 55:41are making hundreds of thousand dollars on
- 55:43sponsorship money.
- 55:45That's like taking your number one
- 55:47quarterback and telling me to go play a
- 55:48bunch of like one of the ten best
- 55:51quarterbacks in the league right now,
- 55:53actively playing them and telling them to
- 55:54go out on weekend sports.
- 55:55I doubt they're doing that.
- 55:57There was a few NFL players.
- 55:59I don't remember which one.
- 56:00Oh, my God.
- 56:01Why am I blanking?
- 56:02On the Vikings.
- 56:03I think he's on the Vikings.
- 56:05Why am I blanking?
- 56:06Number eight.
- 56:07Not the Vikings.
- 56:08Ravens.
- 56:09What's his name?
- 56:11I don't know.
- 56:11Ravens.
- 56:12Scott, help me out here.
- 56:13Number eight.
- 56:14Lamar Jackson.
- 56:16Lamar Jackson.
- 56:18Yeah,
- 56:18like I think he went and played like
- 56:19pickup football, you know,
- 56:21with people and was like diving and stuff.
- 56:25People gave him a lot of shit for
- 56:26that because they're like,
- 56:27you are the reigning MVP.
- 56:29This is a couple years ago, I think.
- 56:30Like MVP and you weren't like...
- 56:34But like he wanted to give back to
- 56:36the kids and like play with young kids
- 56:37at a park.
- 56:38And you see that a couple NBA players
- 56:40too that will go and play pickup.
- 56:42They'll get some...
- 56:45some drawback from their I'm sure their
- 56:48teams to not get injured yeah but you
- 56:51just have to do it secretly don't post
- 56:54about it I think it's just insane that
- 56:57people are shutting themselves off from
- 57:00enjoyment and they're I mean this is a
- 57:05much longer conversation and probably too
- 57:07much for tonight but it just is it
- 57:11swung way too far it swung way too
- 57:14far
- 57:16And I see people saying Tyson still makes
- 57:18a shit ton of money.
- 57:19If Tyson truly gets hurt,
- 57:21that sixty million isn't guaranteed for
- 57:23him.
- 57:26Like he loses half of that.
- 57:30And half of sixteen is eight million.
- 57:32If I lost eight million, I'd be really,
- 57:34really sad.
- 57:35But I think the more you continue to
- 57:37do things,
- 57:37the less likely you are to get injured.
- 57:40The less that you do these things,
- 57:42you start playing scared.
- 57:44You start moving differently because
- 57:46you've got a little caution to you.
- 57:48And that's normally what creates more
- 57:50injuries.
- 57:51The moment you stop,
- 57:53it's going to get worse.
- 57:53It's almost like any movement where you
- 57:55stop and all of a sudden now that
- 57:56range of motion is getting a little bit
- 57:58tougher.
- 58:00um i kind of feel the same thing
- 58:01like i was playing all of these sports
- 58:02i'm playing barely any sports now which i
- 58:05try to stay athletic and jumping and
- 58:08things but like sports wise and like it's
- 58:10even in my head now like oh don't
- 58:12get hurt but like also play um but
- 58:15like i never had that mentality before
- 58:17because i was it was just part of
- 58:18my every day so i think it's like
- 58:22you have to almost keep going
- 58:25Yeah, Nicole actually makes a good point.
- 58:28I think it also depends on who you're
- 58:29playing against or with.
- 58:31If the people are reckless in contact
- 58:33sports, that's just dumb.
- 58:34You're probably right.
- 58:36But another example is like the NBA
- 58:38All-Star game.
- 58:39They have a celebrity game and there are
- 58:42people from other sports that come in and
- 58:45play in that game.
- 58:46Now there are refs.
- 58:48And like Tyson said,
- 58:49when he went to play basketball,
- 58:51he wasn't going to drive in for like
- 58:53a dunk.
- 58:54Right.
- 58:55Right.
- 58:55Like that's not smart on his behalf.
- 59:00He'll just dribble and take some three
- 59:01pointers.
- 59:03Right.
- 59:04You just be smart about it.
- 59:05But to Carolyn's point,
- 59:07I think it's great.
- 59:08Like,
- 59:09And there's a lot of comments about this.
- 59:11Crossfitters aren't athletes anymore.
- 59:13They're just fit in the box.
- 59:15And they don't have that side-to-side
- 59:18movement anymore.
- 59:19WFP is adding the NFL Combine as one
- 59:23of its events.
- 59:24It's a mini Combine.
- 59:26It's not the whole thing.
- 59:27But holy shit,
- 59:29we get to see if people are athletic.
- 59:32I just can't believe it's taken this long.
- 59:34Like I've been in CrossFit for thirteen,
- 59:37fourteen years.
- 59:38And in all of my years,
- 59:41all of the competitions I've done,
- 59:43I've got to sprint once.
- 59:46Like that's crazy.
- 59:47You do any sport and like most,
- 59:50any like main sport,
- 59:52you do their fitness testing.
- 59:53They're testing speed, agility, the five,
- 59:56ten, five, ten, five, long jump,
- 59:59vertical jump.
- 1:00:00Like these are fitness tests of almost
- 1:00:02every sport, high school sports, anything.
- 1:00:05And we do a sport of fitness and
- 1:00:08we've never done these tests,
- 1:00:10never done any of these tests.
- 1:00:11We completed, avoided it.
- 1:00:13It made no sense.
- 1:00:14So like,
- 1:00:15I just can't believe that they're actually
- 1:00:16testing it because like,
- 1:00:17had they tested this so long ago,
- 1:00:20what type of athletes would have done
- 1:00:21better at the games or just arrived at
- 1:00:23the games because they could have
- 1:00:25qualified because we're not allowing a lot
- 1:00:27of athletes to shine any of their
- 1:00:28strengths because it's only power base
- 1:00:31with a barbell or a machine or long
- 1:00:34distance or like moderate distance
- 1:00:36running.
- 1:00:37But we have no problem putting a five
- 1:00:38K,
- 1:00:39but we want to put fifty points for
- 1:00:40a sprint.
- 1:00:42In my opinion,
- 1:00:43both are equally a hundred points.
- 1:00:45It doesn't matter if one's under ten
- 1:00:47seconds and one is twenty minutes.
- 1:00:49They're both completely different.
- 1:00:52Tess says, besides,
- 1:00:54it's just fun to do different shit.
- 1:00:57It is.
- 1:01:01Anyway, we'll drop that for now.
- 1:01:04Do we have anything else for Torian?
- 1:01:09I thought the workouts were pretty cool.
- 1:01:11I was semi-disappointed about a ski erg on
- 1:01:14the last event,
- 1:01:16but it played out pretty well.
- 1:01:18So I kind of forgave it at the
- 1:01:23end.
- 1:01:25Because the deadlift...
- 1:01:28kettlebell deadlift has great memories for
- 1:01:29me at the crossfit games with matt frazier
- 1:01:31and ben smith and um to see that
- 1:01:36and how it carried out and the different
- 1:01:38strategies was pretty cool yeah great
- 1:01:43programming i thought justin had a great
- 1:01:44strategy on that one at the end i
- 1:01:45actually was rooting for him and even even
- 1:01:48that one he still got overtaken right at
- 1:01:50the end he had an interesting strategy
- 1:01:52though like going all the way to the
- 1:01:54end of the other yeah like
- 1:01:56I don't know if this is a compliment
- 1:01:58or not, Carolyn,
- 1:01:58but you're sounding a lot like John when
- 1:02:00he goes on a rant.
- 1:02:02Well, I'm just happy to finally see it.
- 1:02:05And that's from his mother.
- 1:02:06I get you can get injured sprinting,
- 1:02:07but you can get injured in all other
- 1:02:09things.
- 1:02:10as well.
- 1:02:10But like,
- 1:02:11at least they're announcing it early
- 1:02:12enough for people to start training it for
- 1:02:14sprinting and stuff like that.
- 1:02:15But I'm just happy that they're,
- 1:02:17that they're going to include this in a
- 1:02:19test of fitness,
- 1:02:20which I think should have been there.
- 1:02:21I think this should be included some
- 1:02:23version, maybe not these tests,
- 1:02:24but some version of sprinting or agility
- 1:02:28in every single test of fitness.
- 1:02:30It should be included every single one,
- 1:02:33not just once every ten years.
- 1:02:36Wall burpees were a difference maker.
- 1:02:38I love the wall.
- 1:02:40I love the wall.
- 1:02:41Like that's athleticism and like figure it
- 1:02:43out on the floor.
- 1:02:44I don't know if they had one in
- 1:02:44the warmup area or not.
- 1:02:45That's like,
- 1:02:47that's like two thousand ten CrossFit
- 1:02:49games.
- 1:02:51That was so cool.
- 1:02:52And it was like Frogrips did a nice
- 1:02:55job having someone make it with their logo
- 1:02:57on it.
- 1:02:57The whole it was really it looked great.
- 1:03:03And you had so many different techniques,
- 1:03:04too.
- 1:03:05It was like flipping over.
- 1:03:07Like,
- 1:03:08it's just get over the wall how you
- 1:03:09want.
- 1:03:11Yeah.
- 1:03:13So now we'll go to Jamie's favorite event,
- 1:03:15the Rebel Renegade Games.
- 1:03:18They gave away one ticket.
- 1:03:21each side on the men's side Ben Fowler
- 1:03:25ended up winning in a landslide yeah it
- 1:03:28was a hundred plus points for Aussies this
- 1:03:31weekend well he's from New Zealand but for
- 1:03:34people that would normally compete in the
- 1:03:36Australian region he was smart to get out
- 1:03:38of there yeah
- 1:03:42You look great.
- 1:03:43Ruan Pockiter took second,
- 1:03:44and then Jan Arn Finckenberg took third.
- 1:03:50On the women's side, Hannah Black won.
- 1:03:54Var Thurman Moe took second,
- 1:03:56and Mathilde Garnes took third.
- 1:04:00I think the women we predicted it to
- 1:04:04be those three, maybe not in that order.
- 1:04:08The men, I had Ruan to win,
- 1:04:10but Ben crushed it.
- 1:04:13Ben did crush it.
- 1:04:14I was hoping Max would podium, at least,
- 1:04:18next grade.
- 1:04:21So, Kenneth DeLapp says, rocket scientist,
- 1:04:24Hannah Black.
- 1:04:25Yes.
- 1:04:26What I'll say about Hannah,
- 1:04:27what shocked me,
- 1:04:29the big divider for her was the lift.
- 1:04:31No big shock there.
- 1:04:32Yeah.
- 1:04:33but she finished no lower than fourth the
- 1:04:36entire weekend.
- 1:04:38Yeah.
- 1:04:39Well,
- 1:04:39like really only like four athletes there.
- 1:04:42So yeah.
- 1:04:44Three finishes below that.
- 1:04:46Yeah.
- 1:04:46Well, Var, Var, Thurman,
- 1:04:49Mo had three finishes below that.
- 1:04:50Yeah.
- 1:04:51At least, at least two outside of that.
- 1:04:54I've been super impressed with Hannah's
- 1:04:56development in the last year and a half.
- 1:04:59She just keeps inching more and more,
- 1:05:03just higher level,
- 1:05:05and stuff that you wouldn't expect.
- 1:05:07Her running has gone better.
- 1:05:09Her...
- 1:05:10gymnastics um strict strength has gone
- 1:05:13better and she's like not a small athlete
- 1:05:16by any means like she's a giant out
- 1:05:18there and she's doing things that she
- 1:05:21shouldn't be that good and yet she's she's
- 1:05:24crushing it so um you know i think
- 1:05:27this was a very deserving and well-earned
- 1:05:31games ticket for hannah who's been you
- 1:05:33know very close and like last year i
- 1:05:35think competed more than anyone or at
- 1:05:37least one of the top three people to
- 1:05:39compete all over um so clearly like you
- 1:05:42know wanting to get a spot to the
- 1:05:44games and finally got her finally got it
- 1:05:47so good on her because yeah she's been
- 1:05:48looking good she looked good at wfp as
- 1:05:51well um so i think that yeah i
- 1:05:54mean she's gonna have some wheelhouse
- 1:05:55stuff at the games
- 1:05:58You can tell she's been putting in the
- 1:06:00work.
- 1:06:01It's showing on every event.
- 1:06:04She's not just the lifter anymore.
- 1:06:07Even if you take Matilda's second event
- 1:06:11out, Hannah still wins.
- 1:06:15Which is the handstand push-up.
- 1:06:17You eliminate that event completely and
- 1:06:19you have eight scores and Hannah still
- 1:06:23outbeats outbeats?
- 1:06:25Is that a word?
- 1:06:26Beats out.
- 1:06:27pizza.
- 1:06:27Well, what was the tension?
- 1:06:30Was Hannah fourth in that workout?
- 1:06:32Third, I think third or fourth,
- 1:06:34but I'm saying just completely just erase
- 1:06:37that event.
- 1:06:38And she's still winning even like,
- 1:06:40because Mattila still had two, two events,
- 1:06:43I think outside top ten or even anything
- 1:06:46outside top fourth for those,
- 1:06:48for those three athletes shouldn't really
- 1:06:50happen as much,
- 1:06:52but you have events like a max double
- 1:06:54under and
- 1:06:55unbroken, the ring muscle ups.
- 1:06:57I mean, until the learns, I think one,
- 1:06:59that one and the other one was like
- 1:07:00a front squat.
- 1:07:01So like,
- 1:07:01those are very single modality specialist
- 1:07:05type stuff for three scores.
- 1:07:07But yeah, I mean,
- 1:07:10Hannah did what she needed to do.
- 1:07:12She was still,
- 1:07:12regardless of the test was up there.
- 1:07:17Train.
- 1:07:18I understand what you're saying, but
- 1:07:21But Hannah doesn't need an excuse as to
- 1:07:22why she won.
- 1:07:24She was the most consistent over the
- 1:07:26weekend of any of the athletes,
- 1:07:29whether it was six events,
- 1:07:31whether it was nine events.
- 1:07:33She did not place below.
- 1:07:35She only had two fourths out of nine.
- 1:07:38The rest were top three finishes.
- 1:07:41And with this field,
- 1:07:42that's what it had to be to win.
- 1:07:45The only thing is,
- 1:07:47as soon as you have a bad event
- 1:07:48like Matilda's event,
- 1:07:50it is hard to eliminate that because that
- 1:07:52also plays on your mindset.
- 1:07:54Knowing that you're shot to the games is
- 1:07:56done.
- 1:07:57So she still did well after,
- 1:07:59but you're also doing those workouts
- 1:08:01knowing you're just kind of doing them now
- 1:08:03and it sucks.
- 1:08:04And you're still kind of thinking about
- 1:08:05those no reps.
- 1:08:07So while I'm saying Hannah wins out,
- 1:08:09like who knows if the confidence is
- 1:08:11different on the rest of the events,
- 1:08:13how that would have played out.
- 1:08:14But yeah,
- 1:08:15Woulda, shoulda, coulda.
- 1:08:16I mean,
- 1:08:17Hannah qualified and deserves her spot.
- 1:08:23So I went back and I looked at
- 1:08:24the video of that.
- 1:08:26I didn't think I had a good enough
- 1:08:28view ever of Mattel doing the push-ups to
- 1:08:32make a call on anything from the video.
- 1:08:36I was trying to look.
- 1:08:37It didn't look like there's anything
- 1:08:38different from any other lane.
- 1:08:40That's the thing.
- 1:08:40I agree.
- 1:08:41And if she's getting called on thighs on
- 1:08:44the wall, which, to be honest,
- 1:08:45that's never a rule in the wall facing,
- 1:08:47but it could have been a standard for
- 1:08:48them.
- 1:08:49Other athletes were doing it as well.
- 1:08:53That's the issue.
- 1:08:54But we all know that if that's what
- 1:08:59you're getting called for,
- 1:09:00then you have to stop doing it.
- 1:09:03Like, it's not that...
- 1:09:06judge's responsibility to look down the
- 1:09:09lane and see what other judges are letting
- 1:09:11people get away with it.
- 1:09:15The broadcast said she's being no rep
- 1:09:18because of her thighs touching the wall.
- 1:09:20So I can only assume because we don't
- 1:09:23have the standards now that the broadcast
- 1:09:25was given them.
- 1:09:27And that's why they were saying it.
- 1:09:32I
- 1:09:34i didn't like the way she responded to
- 1:09:36it i thought that that as a as
- 1:09:39a professional you need to put that away
- 1:09:42for the weekend and just get back to
- 1:09:45work and she did she went back out
- 1:09:47and she won some events and did all
- 1:09:48the stuff the social media post i think
- 1:09:50was over the top and didn't need to
- 1:09:52be done it it just sounded whiny in
- 1:09:56the middle of the event and it comes
- 1:09:58off as an excuse but i get her
- 1:10:02frustration
- 1:10:04But sometimes you just delete the tweet is
- 1:10:07what we used to say.
- 1:10:10You don't even let it go out.
- 1:10:13Type it out so you get it all
- 1:10:15out of your system and then just delete
- 1:10:16it.
- 1:10:18Write a long message to your partner if
- 1:10:20you're fighting and then delete it.
- 1:10:21Yeah, exactly.
- 1:10:24That's how I made it.
- 1:10:24Twenty nine years.
- 1:10:29Yes, Eric, type and delete,
- 1:10:31type and delete.
- 1:10:37And PC makes a great point.
- 1:10:39It's also disrespectful to the volunteers
- 1:10:42and organizers during the competition.
- 1:10:49We all get like, I've like,
- 1:10:51I've been there.
- 1:10:52I've yelled at umpires.
- 1:10:53I've yelled at referees.
- 1:10:57I've been there.
- 1:10:58I've done it.
- 1:10:59And I've always regretted it afterwards
- 1:11:04because it doesn't change anything in the
- 1:11:06end.
- 1:11:09And every sport with a judge has that
- 1:11:12issue.
- 1:11:15CrossFit is no different.
- 1:11:16Yeah.
- 1:11:17It's frustrating though.
- 1:11:18Like I would have lost my shit if
- 1:11:21I was her,
- 1:11:22I was watching that and I was like,
- 1:11:23I would have.
- 1:11:25How do you know that you don't even
- 1:11:26know why she was being there?
- 1:11:28I guess if I knew I was doing
- 1:11:29something, it is one thing, but like,
- 1:11:32I'm assuming she was doing them correctly.
- 1:11:36Cause she's,
- 1:11:37Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:11:40Her thighs were touching the wall.
- 1:11:42If that was a standard,
- 1:11:44that's a no rep.
- 1:11:46But I don't know.
- 1:11:47And I think that's a bigger problem with
- 1:11:49these events.
- 1:11:51I think the standards should be made
- 1:11:52public.
- 1:11:53Yeah.
- 1:11:55Because you have volunteers judging.
- 1:11:57They shouldn't be questioned on their
- 1:11:58decisions.
- 1:12:00Make the standards public.
- 1:12:03Because everybody thinks they know what
- 1:12:04the standards should be.
- 1:12:07And we're all guessing.
- 1:12:10Yes, this is Evie did get.
- 1:12:13I remember that too.
- 1:12:18Yeah.
- 1:12:19She,
- 1:12:19I thought she looked really good this
- 1:12:21weekend too.
- 1:12:23She pulled out the last.
- 1:12:25Yeah.
- 1:12:27I think I'm trying to think she even
- 1:12:28did the last day.
- 1:12:30But she was looking,
- 1:12:31she was looking really good until then.
- 1:12:33Yeah, last year she was, I think,
- 1:12:35the fittest person there by far and got
- 1:12:39robbed at the end.
- 1:12:40Oh, right.
- 1:12:40I agree.
- 1:12:41But if I'm Matilde,
- 1:12:43let the media say how unfair it was
- 1:12:46for you.
- 1:12:47You don't need to go out and say
- 1:12:48it.
- 1:12:48Yeah.
- 1:12:50That's true.
- 1:12:55She said she's competing next weekend at
- 1:12:57Madrid.
- 1:12:58The Mad Fitness Festival.
- 1:13:00Yeah.
- 1:13:02She was already training today,
- 1:13:03like post-competition.
- 1:13:05I was like, girl, take a day off.
- 1:13:10Test just typed something and deleted it.
- 1:13:12Good.
- 1:13:14Good.
- 1:13:16Send it to me in a DM.
- 1:13:17I'm sure I needed it anyway.
- 1:13:26There's too much opaque business in
- 1:13:28CrossFit.
- 1:13:30Not going to disagree there.
- 1:13:45anyway okay so next thing I wanted to
- 1:13:49talk about real quick is the there was
- 1:13:56something online master semifinals the
- 1:14:00video review seems to be coming to a
- 1:14:01close yeah I think technically has which
- 1:14:07is Tuesday yep
- 1:14:10A lot of videos have gone out.
- 1:14:12A lot of shakeup on the leaderboard.
- 1:14:14Yeah.
- 1:14:15A lot.
- 1:14:16A lot.
- 1:14:18Considering last year,
- 1:14:19it didn't seem like there was any review
- 1:14:21done.
- 1:14:23Now, well, very minimal.
- 1:14:25Yeah,
- 1:14:25like two or three spots changed and a
- 1:14:27couple age brackets, yeah.
- 1:14:29This year,
- 1:14:29every age bracket is getting hit by it.
- 1:14:33Do you think that there's one workout
- 1:14:34specifically that they're looking more
- 1:14:36than others?
- 1:14:37I've heard it's all over the map.
- 1:14:39It is based on the public comments and
- 1:14:43views.
- 1:14:44Now, this year they added the comment.
- 1:14:46Do you think that that has changed?
- 1:14:47They had that last year too.
- 1:14:49They didn't have comments.
- 1:14:52I could write a comment last year.
- 1:14:53I couldn't comment.
- 1:14:55Last year it was not there.
- 1:14:57Maybe it was the online semifinals or last
- 1:14:59chance qualifier that they had fixed it.
- 1:15:01I could write a comment last year.
- 1:15:03Cause I could judge last year and I
- 1:15:05tried and all you could do is give
- 1:15:07it a good.
- 1:15:09I think, I think they may have.
- 1:15:10So they started with the masters and I
- 1:15:12think that was feedback and they added it
- 1:15:14for the individuals.
- 1:15:15I think they may have added the comment
- 1:15:16section for on one of the online
- 1:15:18semifinals last year.
- 1:15:19You could put a comment.
- 1:15:21Yeah.
- 1:15:22I think they may have adjusted that mid
- 1:15:24season.
- 1:15:25Do you think the comment made the
- 1:15:28difference?
- 1:15:30No,
- 1:15:30cause I don't think that there's certain
- 1:15:31videos that were looked at the way that
- 1:15:33like,
- 1:15:34there's still reps that are given after
- 1:15:36the time was done.
- 1:15:38There's still measurements that were not
- 1:15:39even well measured on camera.
- 1:15:42Scores are fine.
- 1:15:44So,
- 1:15:45so you're seeing some that you like
- 1:15:47downvoted,
- 1:15:48put a comment in that didn't get adjusted.
- 1:15:50Correct.
- 1:15:51I,
- 1:15:51I should have written down all of mine
- 1:15:53to see if the ones that I submitted
- 1:15:56to see if those are the ones that
- 1:15:57got adjusted or not.
- 1:15:59Um,
- 1:16:01Interesting.
- 1:16:04So Jamie, you competed in that.
- 1:16:06You finished fourth.
- 1:16:08Where are you standing today?
- 1:16:10I don't know.
- 1:16:12I haven't watched since.
- 1:16:13I think so.
- 1:16:13Your videos, all five have been accepted,
- 1:16:15correct?
- 1:16:15Correct.
- 1:16:15All five of mine have been accepted.
- 1:16:17To be honest,
- 1:16:18I want to say my age group is
- 1:16:19the one age group that has had no
- 1:16:21changes.
- 1:16:22I think there was a change at sixteenth
- 1:16:24and seventeenth, but in that top fifteen,
- 1:16:26I think there was zero changes.
- 1:16:28So I feel like my bracket didn't get
- 1:16:29viewed.
- 1:16:30I know fifteenth changed for a fact
- 1:16:31because she told me.
- 1:16:35Oh, okay.
- 1:16:35Because she's now no longer going.
- 1:16:39was fifteenth uh amanda she's in our chat
- 1:16:42sometimes especially on the lunch show
- 1:16:46she's coached by cj with wad prep that's
- 1:16:49not my age group she said forty to
- 1:16:51forty four i could have sworn linda was
- 1:16:54in forty five but i could be wrong
- 1:16:59i did hear that though yeah i don't
- 1:17:01think there's been
- 1:17:04from what I'm seeing.
- 1:17:05I mean, Nicole says you're so forth.
- 1:17:07Yeah,
- 1:17:07I just looked the top eleven look the
- 1:17:09exact same to me.
- 1:17:11I don't think my age group changed much.
- 1:17:14But I do think I've seen every like
- 1:17:16all the others.
- 1:17:17I know the men's forty five changed quite
- 1:17:18a bit.
- 1:17:21The I've obviously been watching the
- 1:17:23fourteen to fifteen boys because that's
- 1:17:24what our boy Declan is in.
- 1:17:26He he was in twenty first at the
- 1:17:30when it closed,
- 1:17:31when submissions closed and then
- 1:17:33Like two days later,
- 1:17:34went to twenty second.
- 1:17:35Then he went to nineteen.
- 1:17:37Then he went to eighteen.
- 1:17:38I think now he's in twelve.
- 1:17:40It's like that leaderboard is getting
- 1:17:42hammered.
- 1:17:48Jar Jar says Janine Shillington should
- 1:17:49have received penalties and it doesn't
- 1:17:51seem like she had.
- 1:17:53Yes, she has not.
- 1:17:54Her hers has not changed that I can
- 1:17:57see.
- 1:18:02Interesting.
- 1:18:02The video judging a there's was one girl
- 1:18:05that had nineteen.
- 1:18:08Doggone out number two for a squat.
- 1:18:13Down, down numbers, maybe for me.
- 1:18:17Nineteen like down, down, down,
- 1:18:20down numbers for squat depth, I think,
- 1:18:23in the thrusters.
- 1:18:25And she hasn't anything changed.
- 1:18:26Oh.
- 1:18:30Yeah, I think they're still, yeah.
- 1:18:32I mean,
- 1:18:32I'm sure they're probably done right now
- 1:18:34reviewing,
- 1:18:35but there are certainly athletes that
- 1:18:39could have been penalized more.
- 1:18:41I'll say that.
- 1:18:44Um,
- 1:18:45one piece of news from the week is
- 1:18:48that the ranch is now going to be
- 1:18:50available for tours the week of the games.
- 1:18:54So you can sign up to take a
- 1:18:55tour of the ranch.
- 1:18:57If you are heading out to San Jose,
- 1:18:58um, that costs, I don't know.
- 1:19:05Uh,
- 1:19:05Shanna in English says it's down votes for
- 1:19:08squat depth.
- 1:19:08Yeah.
- 1:19:13Jar Jar says they hit sixteen seventeen
- 1:19:14year olds hard.
- 1:19:16I think that's honestly to be smart.
- 1:19:18I think the fact that fourteen fifteen and
- 1:19:20sixteen seventeen got hammered like I mean
- 1:19:23tons of shake up.
- 1:19:23I think that's good.
- 1:19:25Those younger crowd need to understand
- 1:19:29what they are doing wrong.
- 1:19:31And the thing is I don't know what
- 1:19:33kind of feedback they're really given.
- 1:19:37I almost wish you could see the comments
- 1:19:38because they probably could have like
- 1:19:40processed this as it was going through and
- 1:19:42they're
- 1:19:42like could have been like, oh, well,
- 1:19:43I probably need to show this measurement
- 1:19:46there.
- 1:19:47I mean,
- 1:19:47there were some that just did a bad
- 1:19:48job with measurement.
- 1:19:49The kid in first in fourteen, fifteen,
- 1:19:52like did the what like Laura Horvath did
- 1:19:55like year one of the ten inch tape
- 1:19:57line measured to the inside of the tape
- 1:19:59line.
- 1:19:59I mean,
- 1:20:01there's a lot of people that just you
- 1:20:04could see the end and you never saw
- 1:20:06any of the rest of the tape.
- 1:20:07Yes.
- 1:20:09Bunch of false starts as well.
- 1:20:10Yeah, there was like a lot of things.
- 1:20:14Mark Phillips says forty five to forty
- 1:20:15nine and fifty to fifty four men's saw
- 1:20:18around three of the top ten fall out.
- 1:20:23Meg wants to say that that teacher skill
- 1:20:26of reading incomprehensible writing,
- 1:20:28Carolyn Prevost.
- 1:20:29Honestly,
- 1:20:30I'm so used to trying to figure out
- 1:20:32sometimes what my students are writing.
- 1:20:35Yes,
- 1:20:36I have to read Ronica's gibberish a lot.
- 1:20:38I'm like reading it in their voices.
- 1:20:41Oh, yeah.
- 1:20:42Eric Mackey says it's more of a lesson
- 1:20:44for their coaches.
- 1:20:45Learn to do it and teach it correctly.
- 1:20:48I agree with that.
- 1:20:49So I was having this conversation.
- 1:20:51I feel like these,
- 1:20:53I feel like in this process,
- 1:20:55I know it's been brought up on other
- 1:20:56platforms too.
- 1:20:58So there needs to be some type of
- 1:21:00penalty when like,
- 1:21:02I feel like if CrossFit is going through
- 1:21:04and there's like an athlete that is, they,
- 1:21:06you know,
- 1:21:06they have multiple things they need to fix
- 1:21:08on their videos or they also need to
- 1:21:12go in and maybe take away that judge's
- 1:21:14cert for a year.
- 1:21:16Take it away.
- 1:21:17Show them what they're doing wrong.
- 1:21:19There needs to be a penalty for this.
- 1:21:22Make them retake the course.
- 1:21:25I don't even think I'd let them be
- 1:21:26a judge the following year.
- 1:21:28There needs to be something to stop you
- 1:21:30from saying...
- 1:21:32There are clearly people just standing
- 1:21:33there being counters or cheerleaders.
- 1:21:36They are just cheering their athlete on.
- 1:21:37They are not looking for squat depth.
- 1:21:39They aren't looking for
- 1:21:42lockout of the handstand pushup.
- 1:21:44They aren't even looking at the feet
- 1:21:45stayed on the wall.
- 1:21:46They're just cheering for their kid to
- 1:21:48keep like you, you aren't doing your job.
- 1:21:52And so like take that privilege away from
- 1:21:55them so that they realize I,
- 1:21:57I need to take this seriously.
- 1:21:58If I'm going to do this.
- 1:22:03I think it could be a stepped out
- 1:22:05process, but I,
- 1:22:06I don't disagree with the sentiment.
- 1:22:10Like year one, warning, retake the test.
- 1:22:13Year two, it's taken away.
- 1:22:18But like, you know, you have people like,
- 1:22:20like if they're clearly measuring wrong or
- 1:22:23not, not actually judging,
- 1:22:25you're saying like these people,
- 1:22:28what's her face,
- 1:22:29Elsa Boving or whatever that got like
- 1:22:31intentionally,
- 1:22:32I feel like these people are like
- 1:22:33intentionally having their athletes cheat.
- 1:22:37So you're like facilitating that.
- 1:22:42poor movement and I,
- 1:22:45there should be a penalty for that.
- 1:22:48Phil B says,
- 1:22:49if they are this strict during age groups,
- 1:22:51I hope it's the same way for elite
- 1:22:53athletes.
- 1:22:53Yes.
- 1:22:57Patrick says,
- 1:22:57CrossFit can't afford to lose any more
- 1:22:59people.
- 1:23:00They also can't afford to lose their
- 1:23:01standard.
- 1:23:03Lowering their standard is not the way to
- 1:23:05keep people or retain people.
- 1:23:07I agree.
- 1:23:08You need to have a standard that,
- 1:23:11That is what this is about.
- 1:23:12This is about moving into your older years
- 1:23:15of life, being able to move correctly.
- 1:23:18And that comes with a standard.
- 1:23:21Virtuosity.
- 1:23:26So next week we have NorCal Classic.
- 1:23:29Carolyn will be competing there.
- 1:23:33We have Syndicate Crown.
- 1:23:34I will be there covering.
- 1:23:36Woo!
- 1:23:38And we have the Mad Fitness Festival.
- 1:23:40Jamie's hopping on a plane.
- 1:23:41Big news.
- 1:23:44I was waiting for it.
- 1:23:44I was like,
- 1:23:45is Jamie going to that one now?
- 1:23:48Got eyes at all three.
- 1:23:49Unfortunately, no.
- 1:23:50No, sorry.
- 1:23:52We missed out on that one.
- 1:23:55But yeah,
- 1:23:55so it's going to be a wild...
- 1:23:58I don't know what our schedule is this
- 1:23:59week because I don't know where we'll be,
- 1:24:01when we'll be,
- 1:24:03and what availability we'll have.
- 1:24:05But I'm going to try to do a
- 1:24:06live show lunch on Friday from the
- 1:24:10Syndicate Crown.
- 1:24:13Then Sunday night is crazy.
- 1:24:17I probably will be done in time to
- 1:24:19do that with Jamie at the least.
- 1:24:22But I don't know how long NorCal will
- 1:24:24go being West Coast time.
- 1:24:28So we'll see.
- 1:24:31But we'll try to keep it the same
- 1:24:32next week.
- 1:24:33And then right now,
- 1:24:35We have enhanced games going on.
- 1:24:41It hasn't already gone.
- 1:24:43Mitchell Hooper versus Thor in a deadlift
- 1:24:48with a doctor prescribing them drugs.
- 1:24:52Which I don't get because they're already
- 1:24:54on stuff.
- 1:24:54So why are they at the enhanced games?
- 1:24:57I feel like they're going to be less
- 1:24:58enhanced now because now they're being
- 1:25:00supervised.
- 1:25:02Right.
- 1:25:04But isn't it already allowed with their
- 1:25:06sport?
- 1:25:08This would be more for the sports that
- 1:25:09don't have.
- 1:25:09I don't know if it's allowed,
- 1:25:10but it's definitely taken advantage of.
- 1:25:13Okay.
- 1:25:16Well, they don't test in strongmen,
- 1:25:17I don't think.
- 1:25:20I don't know.
- 1:25:21I don't know.
- 1:25:26I don't know.
- 1:25:27So it's swimming, track, Olympic lift,
- 1:25:30and powerlifting?
- 1:25:33Is there something else?
- 1:25:34I think that's it pretty much.
- 1:25:39Yeah, this is weird to me.
- 1:25:45I just turned it on.
- 1:25:47Here's what they're taking.
- 1:25:49I have to rewind that.
- 1:25:50That screen just went.
- 1:25:51Here's what they're taking.
- 1:25:52No, it says.
- 1:25:53It says.
- 1:25:54Hold on.
- 1:25:54They're giving out their.
- 1:25:57Yes.
- 1:25:58Yes.
- 1:26:00This is not good.
- 1:26:03hold on here how do i rewind this
- 1:26:04they have fifty thousand views on youtube
- 1:26:07as it's going live i have to rewind
- 1:26:11it i have to rewind it well carolyn's
- 1:26:12doing that also i'll tell you what they're
- 1:26:15taking they just had it on the screen
- 1:26:20i'll find it give me a second i've
- 1:26:22i rewind it too much wfp is doing
- 1:26:25some partnerships now i don't know if you
- 1:26:27saw but will was at the torian pro
- 1:26:30we WFP is doing the broadcast for an
- 1:26:33event in Australia now.
- 1:26:37They are.
- 1:26:38I see this note.
- 1:26:40It was at you, Carolyn.
- 1:26:42Yes, with the monster games.
- 1:26:44Yeah,
- 1:26:44it was just that they're both doing the
- 1:26:46combine.
- 1:26:47Okay.
- 1:26:48So both the monster games and WFP are
- 1:26:51doing the combine.
- 1:26:52That's super cool.
- 1:26:56Okay,
- 1:26:56do we want to know what they're taking?
- 1:26:58Just, I want to make sure it's clear.
- 1:27:00Ed, Jazzy does not, yes,
- 1:27:02it gets you zero percent off of your
- 1:27:05peptides.
- 1:27:11Go ahead, Carolyn.
- 1:27:13Okay, it says what they are taking.
- 1:27:16Oh my God, I thought I paused it.
- 1:27:17Goddamn.
- 1:27:23Oh my gosh, I just paused it.
- 1:27:28I thought I had it paused and it
- 1:27:29was just on the screen and it wasn't
- 1:27:31there.
- 1:27:31It's going to be literally five seconds.
- 1:27:35So I see Hiller's name mentioned.
- 1:27:38This is a little rant.
- 1:27:38I'll probably go on it more tomorrow.
- 1:27:40But he put up a video that said
- 1:27:44mogged, Justin Medeiros mogged.
- 1:27:48I had to look up what mogged was
- 1:27:50because my young daughter has moved away.
- 1:27:55Mogged means to outshine or to dominate in
- 1:27:59an athletic endeavor.
- 1:28:02Why do we have to make up new
- 1:28:03words for that?
- 1:28:05Is outshined not enough?
- 1:28:07It's been around for years.
- 1:28:09It was adequate for years.
- 1:28:12Now we have to have a new word
- 1:28:13for it?
- 1:28:15Probably for the algorithm.
- 1:28:21I'm getting too damn old.
- 1:28:23Well,
- 1:28:24it's probably one of those things that's
- 1:28:25going to push the video to the top
- 1:28:26of people's feeds.
- 1:28:27Well, sure,
- 1:28:28but someone before Hiller came up with the
- 1:28:30word.
- 1:28:38Yeah.
- 1:28:38Trish says outshined is kind of gay,
- 1:28:40to be honest.
- 1:28:43Well, what is mogged?
- 1:28:44Because I don't know that that's any
- 1:28:46better.
- 1:28:46That sounds awful.
- 1:28:48Yeah.
- 1:28:51It's like getting flogged.
- 1:28:53I don't that's not where my brain goes.
- 1:28:55I don't that's not even a good thing.
- 1:28:58I Hi rocks is partnering with Warner
- 1:29:04Brothers.
- 1:29:05That's a huge thing.
- 1:29:07Wow.
- 1:29:07That's because Xenon is partnering with
- 1:29:09DreamWorks.
- 1:29:11Really?
- 1:29:12Well, they that's who's funding the money,
- 1:29:14essentially.
- 1:29:15I think Katzenberg, right?
- 1:29:22I think Xenom's going to be freaking
- 1:29:24awesome.
- 1:29:25I hope so.
- 1:29:29I have what they are taking now,
- 1:29:31and I paused it.
- 1:29:32Okay.
- 1:29:34Ninety point five percent of them are
- 1:29:36taking testosterone esters,
- 1:29:40HGH for seventy eight point six percent,
- 1:29:42stimulants for sixty one point nine
- 1:29:44percent,
- 1:29:46metabolic modulators for fifty percent,
- 1:29:49EPO forty point five percent.
- 1:29:52Testosterone derivatives,
- 1:29:54twenty eight point six percent and
- 1:29:56hormonal support HCG four point eight
- 1:30:00percent.
- 1:30:00And it says all dosing within HRT clinical
- 1:30:04guidelines.
- 1:30:09So I see that is not helpful.
- 1:30:10That's what they're taking.
- 1:30:14How do you make sure that a cheater
- 1:30:16only cheats so far?
- 1:30:19I think they're in a certain location and
- 1:30:23And they probably go see people at certain
- 1:30:25times of the day.
- 1:30:26I don't know.
- 1:30:27All year.
- 1:30:28They can't test them every day.
- 1:30:30Like, well, I think like,
- 1:30:33so one guy's from my hometown, Bodie,
- 1:30:36he's an Olympic lifter.
- 1:30:37He's there right now.
- 1:30:38He's a Canadian Olympic lifter.
- 1:30:41And like, he's been,
- 1:30:42I think it's in Dubai.
- 1:30:44He was in Dubai or something for like
- 1:30:46a while under strict like protocols.
- 1:30:49So I think they're monitoring them for.
- 1:30:54Whatever their protocol is.
- 1:30:57Phil B.,
- 1:30:57this is the new tagline of the Enhanced
- 1:30:59Games.
- 1:31:00Pop till you drop.
- 1:31:06Mark Phillips,
- 1:31:07I didn't realize HRT clinics had
- 1:31:08guidelines.
- 1:31:15Well,
- 1:31:15I look forward to all of Hiller's content,
- 1:31:18all of this,
- 1:31:18because it's way over my head.
- 1:31:22Yeah, I don't.
- 1:31:24This is my thing.
- 1:31:25If you want to take this stuff to
- 1:31:28feel better and to look better,
- 1:31:30more power to you.
- 1:31:31But when you do that,
- 1:31:32you give up the right to compete.
- 1:31:34Yeah, I agree.
- 1:31:40That's it.
- 1:31:40All right.
- 1:31:49With that...
- 1:31:51I'm going to go.
- 1:31:52Okay.
- 1:31:55Hope you all have a great night.
- 1:31:58Happy Memorial Day tomorrow for you guys
- 1:32:00in the States.
- 1:32:01For everybody else, have a great Monday.
- 1:32:03And we'll be back tomorrow for Lunch with
- 1:32:05the Clydesdale.
- 1:32:07Bye, guys.
