- 0:28Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:30coop. So let's talk about the
- 0:32impermanence of things. You know, nothing.
- 0:35Nothing. Nothing is permanent.
- 0:37No matter how well you do something, no matter how you
- 0:40know strong. You think you've built
- 0:42something, Doesn't matter what it is.
- 0:44Nothing is permanent. Everything is in constant flux
- 0:46and change. One day things seem completely
- 0:50copacetic and everything's running the way we want it to.
- 0:53And the next day there's a shift.
- 0:54Something's not right. Something had to change.
- 0:57And before you know it, we're working on fixing things.
- 1:01And usually that's a trigger because we get upset that things
- 1:05have to change. But what if we just embrace the
- 1:08fact that nothing was permanent? What if we just embrace the fact
- 1:11that, you know, there's always change?
- 1:13And today's another opportunity of how we decide to view it and
- 1:18if we start looking at things like opportunities.
- 1:21To shift and change our approach and how we do things, then we're
- 1:26going to have a much easier time.
- 1:28We don't have to have the suffering.
- 1:30You know, if there's one thing that I can say that I truly
- 1:34believe in is pain is inevitable.
- 1:35But suffering definitely is optional depending upon how much
- 1:39you put. Your attention on the suffering
- 1:43portion of it, because pain will happen.
- 1:46It doesn't matter. We will love people and we will
- 1:49lose people. We will have things that go
- 1:52really well and we will have things that do not go really
- 1:54well. And we have to learn to
- 1:56transcend this, and we have to learn that Part of the process
- 2:00is accepting the impermanence of things in our lives.
- 2:03And it doesn't matter if it's a piece of clothing.
- 2:06One of my favorite pair of pants that I wear out here on the
- 2:09farm, ripped right through the knee.
- 2:11And I was like, oh, no, right. I was like, so upset.
- 2:15They were lightweight jeans. I I found them at Old Navy.
- 2:18I was like, they don't even make these anymore because they're
- 2:21probably like four or five years old.
- 2:23And I was so bummed out, but I had to pause and say to myself,
- 2:27wait, these pants. And I have done so much work out
- 2:31here, I need to celebrate these pants.
- 2:33I'm not going to be mad about it, And I know that sounds
- 2:35silly, but I had to shift my my thought process around it
- 2:39because. This is what happens.
- 2:41You get irritated and those little irritations are like
- 2:44bleeding to death by paper cuts. They don't feel good and they
- 2:47sting and they stay with you. And we've all had paper cuts and
- 2:51they suck. And a cardboard cut is even
- 2:53worse. But that's what we do to
- 2:54ourselves when we don't accept the impermanence of stuff and we
- 2:58just instead of just chalking it up and going, OK, so this is
- 3:01where we are now and staying in the moment.
- 3:04We get all wound up about the other stuff and then make
- 3:06ourselves feel bad about it. So instead of doing that, there
- 3:10are options, my friends. And those options are about
- 3:13recognizing, OK, this is where we are right now.
- 3:16How do I choose to feel now? Who do I want to be now?
- 3:20What's the best way to show up now?
- 3:23So I've had to learn that lesson.
- 3:26Quite a few times with the chickens, as you can imagine,
- 3:28because being out here with them is not easy in the sense that
- 3:33things want to eat them. Pretty much everything wants to
- 3:36eat them. The other day I was out walking
- 3:39around the loop here and I looked up and there was.
- 3:42Giant eagle. I could hear the crows
- 3:44screeching coming in at them, and the chickens were all
- 3:47running One Direction. I was walking in another
- 3:49direction, and I was like, oh boy, I wonder if they had
- 3:53something. And sure enough, the second
- 3:55eagle flew over and it had a squirrel.
- 3:57It had caught a squirrel And the crows were actually alerting,
- 4:01which they do, and I love that because I worked hard to train
- 4:04them for that. But the the truth is it it's
- 4:07impermanent. And I felt so bad that the
- 4:09squirrel got nailed. But in the same moment I was
- 4:11like well. You know, this is Mother Nature.
- 4:13This is where I live. This is what I choose.
- 4:15And I brought myself back to the moment and I said I'm grateful
- 4:18it wasn't one of the girls because it has been one of the
- 4:20girls in the past and it's hard when you lose one of them.
- 4:24And it rather than sitting and dwelling in the fact that I lost
- 4:29one, I sit and tell myself, OK, this chicken had the best
- 4:33chicken life that it possibly could.
- 4:35It was not all cooped up. It was not put into a run.
- 4:38It was not part of a mass egg production.
- 4:40It you know. They have this beautiful house,
- 4:43they have this beautiful run, and then they go out and spend
- 4:47all their time on five acres. There is nothing wrong with
- 4:51their chicken life. And if it has to end that way,
- 4:53there's nothing I can do about that piece of it.
- 4:56I protect them. I do everything I can, but I
- 4:58have to accept the impermanence of it and realize that I've done
- 5:02good work while I was doing good work.
- 5:05So. Incorporate this belief into
- 5:08your system. Start when things are not broken
- 5:11so that you have a better way of looking at it.
- 5:14Give yourself the gift of allowing yourself to expect that
- 5:18you things will be impermanent and that you will transcend it
- 5:21all by choosing a different focus.
- 5:24OK, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you
- 5:26tomorrow. Bye.
