- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: It builds fans, Lance Nelson, president of built in Buffalo, here with our old friend, slash welcome back, Scott Cassen, recovering from a broken leg.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: How are you feeling tonight, brother?
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing all right.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Excited to be back, excited to talk some football.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I got a month's worth of takes.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: I got to get out of me, so excited to get into it.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: indeed.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: First things first, let's just give a quick shout out to our friends over at a Waken 1808 loss.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: I was able to lose over 37 pounds in 12 weeks with a Waken 1808 loss.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: Thurrow coaching, no guesswork, no medication was able to drop weight and eat to lose weight to feel good, still going on the maintenance plan.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: So free support for life from awaken 180.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: So go ahead and book your consultation that awaken 180 weight loss.com and click on the link in the comments for more.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Scott, not a whole heck of a lot going on in current news.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: I did visit the bill's stadium over the 4th of July break there.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: So really impressive structure to see.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: Got to see the buffaloes up close, although they hadn't been installed.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: They did get installed earlier this week.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: So going off the cuff a little bit here from what the outline says.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: But just wanted to see if you had heard any, if you had seen any pictures, maybe you saw the ones I posted or whatnot.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: And just,
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: Are you ready to come up and when's the first time you're going to come up to see a stadium and those buffaloes?
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, play slow.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's awesome.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: I've been consuming pretty much everything that's been on Twitter, on wherever really excited to get in there.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of count down the days.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: The latest, obviously, the home opener in September.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: Well, 100% be there for that.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: Debating may be coming for one of the scrimmages.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: Probably not at least no plans of it right now.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: All that I'll probably some of that depends on how my legs go into But yeah, but looking like the home opener will be the first time I'm there.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I don't want to I don't want to blow my first experience on a Scrimmage or a preseason game.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: I want to save it for for the real thing
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I might be easier to get around to as we get closer to the kickoff on the opening night.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: So our week two really for the bills, but yeah, would be will be great to see when you do get up here.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: And it is it's impressive.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: And then on the other side, I think on the other side of the road literally.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: It is so surreal to see the dismantling of the old Highmark Stadium, just the whole front age is completely ripped off now where the scoreboard was and that end of it.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: So just I was a little bit taken aback, I mean I knew they obviously were going to start to deconstruct in the thing, but just the way it's come down and just seeing
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: Now all the reports of what are they going to do with the space and everything and John's welcome me back.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: So appreciate you guys for joining us.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it's a little bit bit or sweet of seeing that old concrete mess taken down.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to lie.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I saw a thing on, I don't know if this is true or just the internet, but maybe putting some kind of like tailgate bar type structure across where it is instead of just being a parking lot.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think that was just an idea for this piece, but there are constantly more ideas.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if it isn't an idea that I hope it gets some legs.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that would be cool.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, getting in and out the last couple of years was a little difficult with less parking, but it wasn't that bad, all things considered.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it showed that maybe they don't have to put it all back.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: the parking as it was like people figured out for these last few years and there's not really a ton around with a stadium rather you know big tree in is great and then you got the couple other bars on the other side but you know not really a kind of a place like that that would be a cool spot to gather so I think that would be neat if they're able to do something like that with the space and
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it was maybe even have like, you know, this is like when you go to all of America, it's like this is where home plate was in the original twin stadium, something like that.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: This is where 50 yard line was something pretty cool.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it seems like they should have had some kind of ceremony for the them taking it down.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, fans didn't get to come say bye to the stadium.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're incredible, but yeah, that's the last week was a pretty good tribute there with the send off, so all good with that, but we'll see.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, we'll see what sort of once they take down.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if they're just going to bury what's underneath there.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: If they're going to fully dismantle it down to the dirt and then fill it in.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: Would be more structure there if you just leave all the concrete and things as nice little base over it.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll kind of see what happens with that.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: But it is a little bit of bittersweet.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't really get to give your thoughts on the OJ Simpson not moving across the street.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: So if you want to you can take a minute to just let us know what you think on that.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he'll live on in our memories of the old stadium, but yeah, I'm okay with with no OJ on the wall, even though he was innocent.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think that means something.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: there you go.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's talk some other football real quick if we may.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: Just as our quick thought segment here break away from the NFL and talk some football.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: Europa, maybe if you want to say or I guess it's going to be the rest of the world calls it football right and football if you want to be.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: Spanish, in Spanish, I'm not sure what the French term is, but I didn't take French.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: But France did dominate again today with a two-nothing victory against Morocco.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: So, killing a Bapé incredible again and there are odds on favorite obviously for this tournament and it's looking like it's theirs for the losing really.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the World Cup's been a lot of fun to watch.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't been on to mention it at all, but a perk of getting hurt around a major sporting event is I've watched literally every second of every game.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: US was really disappointing on Monday.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: That sucked.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: Thought this team was different, but they weren't.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: Say, same old US, hope they'd bring poke our poach back.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think he did good things.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: He just didn't have very much time with this group.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, I will convince ourselves by 2030 that the team will be better.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: We'll probably go out in the round of 16 again, but WorldCups are really fun.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: Looks like we're on another collision course for in Bob A. Messay, France, Argentina.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: So that would be really cool to see the best player or maybe ever in Messay.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe in 10 years we'll be saying in Bob A is the best player ever.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: So WorldCups been a lot of fun to watch and a nice...
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: When it's the slow time for sports, nice to have some food ball to watch until we get football and about a month and a half or a week zero college.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: It has been a joy.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: I love just watching competition in general and this is some of the highest level competition you're going to get in the World Cup.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: So it's really fun to see.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: how on has been all the stars out there have been have been stars and that's fun to see it's fun to watch when the best players are doing the best things I guess.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: So pretty cool there.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: You had brought up Sean Payton's article before the show and just want to get some thoughts on that from it from the bills related topics there.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: I want to give us your thoughts on those.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was an interesting article, it's kind of the big story in the football world, this week kind of, it's not a hit piece, but I'm trying to think of the character piece, like just kind of an on Sean Peyton over the last year, they had a reporter with him to the whole season.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: It sounded like, and Sean Peyton's an interesting guy.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't mention this to you, but my favorite idea that he had was that one built Velichek got,
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: Fire left the Patriots, whatever you want to call it, Sean Peyton had the idea that Bellachack would come be the head coach of the Broncos.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: Peyton would step back and be the O.C.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: in run the offense.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: Then after Bellachack got his 15 wins, he needed to be the all-time wins leader.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: He would go back to being the head coach.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: So kind of funny shows the respect that he had for Bellachack that idea never went anywhere.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: But just I
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: how many other head coaches do you think would even consider doing something like that was was it was interesting?
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if Bill would even entertain that idea.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he would.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he would want it.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think if he Bill I think cares too much about like the history of the game and he's like a football theorist.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he would want to like
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: get the record anyway, but the right way, not that that's the wrong way, but it wouldn't be like his team or anything like that.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: Would have been very funny to see like, what are the offense struggles and they have to like, what do they do?
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: But the couple bills, things in there, which are interesting, one, and Lance, I wanna hear what you think about this and if you wish they would have done it, but in over time, the Bronco's first possession on the 4th and 11 punts, Sean Payton called the fake punts.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: He said they had the exact look they were looking for.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: And basically would have been a wall of their blockers.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: He said it would have been shabbers.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, shabbers was her, it wasn't in the game.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: But that's who usually is in that spot.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: And it would have been like four on one.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: And all the Ponderhouse to do is get 11 yards.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: He called it the players and the people on the sideline kind of vetoed it.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Would have been one of the ballsiest calls, if not deballsiest calls, maybe in the history of sports.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I guess as they say wish a mother fucker would, right?
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, try it.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: I would have that would have been something really interesting, although I do sort of have even some trepidation that God, they might have made it.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: Bad fourth downs for the bills at times throughout the season, but yeah, would have been probably more embarrassing for that.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: All would have been worse than the game.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: Very good.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would have been worse to lose the game because the Broncos convert a fake punt and go down and score the first position all the time I think in my mind.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so that was interesting and that another thing that's no Sean McDermott 9-11, but a way that he tried to motivate the team was showing them the end of the movie Everest basically where the guy climbing it, kind of suffocates from inside of Aaron dies and he added it, they had, I'm sure he did.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: someone better at technology than him, edited it.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: So the climate dying was at a Josh Allen jersey.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: When they call his wife to let them know Haley Steinfeld answering.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: So that's one motivational tactic.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, try to use some current events to get get your guys fired up.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: But I just thought that was kind of funny and, you know, it kind of worked.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, head coaches have to be pretty creative guys when it comes to motivating other grown men to follow them.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think that there are a lot of different tactics that can be used.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: And we obviously had our share of McDermott using some interesting ones like the 911 you mentioned.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: And whatnot.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: So Peyton using that is pretty clever, I think, and nice little touch.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: you like football outside of Buffalo.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I'd recommend checking it out.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we're going to get into the offensive line preview, which is what we came here to talk about.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: But first, let's just mention the folks that support us each and every week.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: And that is the big tree in.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's wing night over at the big tree in.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: So if you haven't had dinner yet, and you're looking for something to get 75 cent wings over at the big tree in, get the girth sauce.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: I actually had them last weekend.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't disappoint.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: my wife's uncle and her cousin over to the big tree.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: We got some mediums and some girth sauce wings.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: They were incredible as always.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: And even traveled from the big tree and back to my wife's folks' parents house.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: And we had a good little feast there on that.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: So that was all good.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Even though they weren't fresh, still tasty.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: We can 180 weight loss, shout out to them, for helping me.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: achieve my fitness goals and weight loss goals so down around the 196 mark now looking to get all the way to 185 still but I got some work still to do but doing it well on maintenance even then just all using everything I've learned while on the program and how to eat to lose weight has been blessing for me.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: We acknowledge Buffalo and appreciate those guys.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: Check out room 40 and book your event over there.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: We're looking forward to some more events with them this year and hopefully you're going to get some time with some other players and interviews and just overall media with that partnership.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: And then 71 Slicks Barbershop in Depue Book Your Cut with Dennis and his staff use this QR code on the screen right now to book your cut in the cut app and give yourself a good look for the summer fades is what Dennis is good at and would be good to keep yourself cool in the summer.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: First, we'll have a question from our chat here.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: John, I appreciate you coming through with it.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: Scott, why don't you take this one here.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think the bills will have a full back or use Jackson Haas?
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: I do think they're going to have a fullback.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think they really value Hall is blocking on the line of scrimmage and kind of using him and that that six-so-line man role, you know, he's a tight end that Alec Anderson role from the years in the past and I also think they like having him and then also having a fullback to really go that.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: that true jumbo package when you have him in the backfield just as a full back it takes away some of the flexibility there with him you know going out for passes from the line stuff like that and then you know they sign Ben Van Summerin from the Eagles who has some NFL experience and sign Jackson Akker from Wisconsin as a UDFA one of the full back so I think one of them will make the team if you had to ask me right now I would say
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Van Summerin from the Eagles just because he has that experience.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I especially think we've seen Joe Brady's offense for the last three years, and he's had a fullback each of those years.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I would be surprised if that was any different now.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right, Bonnie, I would expect them to potentially use one, but it is an area where if Joe Brady wants to differ from what they've done
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: ability to do so using garlic jacks and haws or others even knocks at times potentially in that role.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: I do think they would want to try to have someone like a jackson actor on the roster though to serve not only there, but especially themes as well and sort of fill that Regigilium type role.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, I don't know that Acker or that Haas is really going to do quite as much on special teams as what they did ask Regigillium to do, whereas having a guy like Acker would allow them to do that and ask that of him.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, that's
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, if you haven't done so, please like and share this episode on Facebook, please like and repost on X, and come on over to YouTube.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: If you're on X and subscribe to that built-in Buffalo YouTube channel, then give us a like and share from YouTube as well.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: If you could, get us in the algorithm.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: We'd greatly appreciate all the love and support there.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start off with the offensive line preview now Scott, who's in, who's out, mostly had the same starting five with a familiar face potentially sliding in at left guard, but give us your overall view of the ins and outs throughout this offensive line here.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one of the most impressive things of this recent bills run over the SA call it the last three years is have they've been able to keep the same most part offensive line that continuity is huge, especially for a team that runs the ball the way that.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: bills do as much as they do.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: So for the most part, like you said, the same guys.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, we got Spencer Brown back.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Cyrus, Torrance, back, Connor McGovern, big contract.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: And he's back.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: Only question mark which we're going to get into is a new starting left guard.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: David Edwards is gone.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: signed a big deal with the Saints.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: Good for him.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: And then obviously, Deandalkans back on the left side.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: Couple other guys that were added, Austin Corbett and Lloyd Kushnerberry, both in from
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: Corbett, center and guard, cushionberry only played center, but probably could play guard, Jude Bowery drafted in the fourth round out of BC, and Armaj read Adam's draft in the seventh round out of A&M.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: Other than that, the only guy gone is Ryan Vandemark, who was restricted free agent signed with the Vikings.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: He got a nice chunk of change there as well, so
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's kind of it.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: There's a new coach as well, which is maybe the biggest change in the offense of mine.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: Aaron Kromer was there for a long time.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: Very highly regarded as one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL had a ton of experience, all the guys who I liked them.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: They brought in Pat Meyer, most recently, the offensive line coach with the Steelers, kind of bounced around the league for a while, some college, some CFL,
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: I was with the bills as an offensive assistant back in 2015-16, those Rex Ryan days and he's from Youngstown, Ohio and that's the city of grit.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what's better for an offensive line coach than to be gritty, so you'll always love that and you got guys coming from Youngstown, Ohio.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, for the most part, the same room.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: Few new guys in, couple guys out with that core group and the stars are definitely still there, so really, really exciting for the bills
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: Set the home of the fighting penguins, or is that a different young town?
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, young town state, yeah, that's right.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: One of my, one of my buddy's former flag teammates plays at young town state is a receiver there.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: When we went to Cedar Point a few weeks ago, we passed through Youngstown and I made that joke of the home of the fighting penguins.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: My wife had no idea what I was talking about, but I brought our speed, coached her up on all the ins and outs of the Youngstown state sports programs and why I knew about them and they was a good bit.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: So, thank you.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what do you think about, you know, staying sort of with someone along the same, you know, cut from the same cloth maybe or just with experience having had some time with air and cromer and Pat Meyer, do you think that matters at all to these guys or at least helps a little bit having that familiarity.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I really think what helps is that this guy has a lot of experience.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: He's coached in the league for a really long time.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: Was an offensive line coach with us for the Steelers, for the last four seasons, Panthers before that bounce around.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: So this is a pretty veteran,
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: a couple younger guys, but all of the starters are at least four or five year vets.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I think having a guide to come in and kind of command of the room is going to be really big and I got that they're going to listen to.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, definitely think that's a good thing for that.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: Good thing for Pat Meyer.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm rusty.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: Haven't talked this much in a month.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, you haven't muted yourself yet.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: So so far, so good, I guess.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: And I haven't forgotten to unmute myself, so that's what I'm saying.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: Um, it's a right of passage every show for me, it seems like, but yeah, um,
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm happy that they were able to get, like you said, the experience of this sort of guy and having someone that is understanding of what the teachings of Chroma are may have been or that sort of scheme and how he would go about it and they've had enough success there to where, you know, he can take away the maybe some things that that didn't get through and try to install some things that may have maybe beneficial moving forward as well.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: some of the offensive linemen already talked about that with many folks along the podcasting scene and things like that that have done some interviews so far the summer and talking about Pat Meyer so excited to see how they come out here and let's let's figure out here how do you think they're going to line up from left to right Scott what do you see going into week one as the you're starting five offensive linemen
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: One other thing I did want to mention just help with the camaraderie of the group and the continuity is they were able to retain Austin gun the assistant oan coach who was there with cromer since 2022.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: Some people thought he just may slide in and be the main guy doesn't seem like he's ready for that yet, but.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: He very easily could have looked elsewhere and wanted to go somewhere else and the the Hadoa line coach, but he stayed.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to stay under Meyer, so I think that's huge as well to have a guy who Meyer can kind of hear about, because with these vets, some things are just going to continue to do their way, and he can tell them that, and then the other way, someone to kind of, you're going to get the ear of the players to listen to the new guy.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: For the offense a lot.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's really I can talk about not a ton of difference.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_00]: So Deon Dawkins obviously going to be your left tackle mentioning wants to play a little lighter this year You could say last year was his worst season in a while.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: He had a lot of penalties on characteristic penalties some on discipline to penalties a lot of false starts out of Deon We know who he is he's a great guy.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's a leader.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: He works really hard
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes it doesn't feel like he takes everything seriously and that's good, but when panels these start rackin up and your play isn't where it should be, you know, maybe sometimes it's time to lock in a little bit.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it seems like he's done that if it off since this offseason saw some pictures of him looks like he's dropped some weight, so it's good for him.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be a little quicker because he's not getting any younger, so any way he can take off with his feet in his knees will only help him go and forward.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: Right now, one of the things I kind of want to talk about real quick while we're on the left tackle and not to interrupt you, but it's just, you know, how many years do we really have left with the on as the starting left tackle?
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think he really can continue going for at least two, maybe three before, you know, the play gets to a spot where we're like, all right, man, like,
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like you mentioned, the father times undefeated.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: So we've got to keep an eye on that and just see, I think they're, um, they're going to need to look at getting some guys in house that can, they can do some things and hopefully beyond kind of kicks it up on that level this season and for the next two to three years at minimum.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: This will be what this will be your 10 for him.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I can verify that.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so you just 20 seconds.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: You have to in 2017, yep.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like it feels like he's still a kid, but he's obviously not.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's a metaphor there, but yeah, so then come over to the left guard right now.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think Alec Anderson probably is penciled in as the starter.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think Austin Corbett's going to give him a run for his money there.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: He started more games in the league, obviously, they really like Alic Anderson.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: They brought him back the past two seasons.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's shown how versatile that he is and they may like some of that as well.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like last season, he started at Wright Tackle when Brown and Deon were out.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe they like the idea of Corbett playing guard because he's more of strictly.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: an interior guy and Anderson being that swing guy who knows what whichever one of them plays better is going to get that spot Who what do you what do you think for right guard right guard their left guard excuse me?
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's really yeah
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's the one we're going to lock in on.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that Alc Anderson is a leader in the clubhouse to go do it.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Also have like double the salary of Corbet for Anderson resigned here to 1.62 for Corbet.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're both going to play potentially at times.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think, if Browner's
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: someone might go out like that, you may see Alec Anderson move by, you know, by need or if they're more comfortable with Anderson other than rather than one of these other backup linemen that could potentially be the swing tackle.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure how they are going to play that.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be one of the things we're watching throughout training camp and how those things line up.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: Right now, though, with all the information I have at my fingertips, I just think Alic Anderson.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: was a road grader in the run game.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to value the run game.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: They had their third in yards before a contact, while rushing last year.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: So they had Mark of 1.77, third in the league behind the jets and the bears at rushing yards before contact per carry.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I think they value that and that they're going to choose that sort of road grader
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: at left guard to try to continue that, but I will also mention that Alec Anderson, at least in PFF size, we'll say did not earn very good grades in the past blocking game.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see if he's going to get that left guard spot and be there as a starter, he's going to need to make sure that the past blocking is obviously up to snuff too, and that's the big area.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: where David Edwards was so valuable on this offensive line, next to Connor McGovern was able to trust Edwards with some of the help in calling certain things and we'll see how that all translates this season with Alc Anderson or Corbet in that spot.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where Corbet maybe will be more valuable because of the experience and being able to help potentially with some calls and just organization of everyone's assignments.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: I was gonna say the other way honestly,
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I look Anderson's more valuable there because he's been in this system for the last few years and he's played a lot of different spots on law He's played center.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's played guard.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's played tackle spend that six o' line And he kind of knows what everybody's job is on every play So maybe he'll see it from a better spot, but
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's nice going into a training camp and only having one offensive line spot to worry about a lot of teams would do a lot of things for to have that be the case so shout out to Brandon being for finding these guys and then keep finding way to keep them all together because not only are they really good football players, but it is.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: We've done some stuff with Conor McGover and now he's a great dude, Dian does a ton in the community, Spencer Brown seems like a good time.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: We've met Osiris Torrance as well as just a really good group of dudes too.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: So a great group that they have there and it's nice that there's only one spot to have to worry about.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, so let's just continue through, I think we know the next three spots, but just for the sake of saying it out loud.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, Connor McGovern, you know, the richest man in Buffalo now, well, second rich is Panjoch Allen.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_00]: So he's staying there, Osiris Torrance, he, big year for him and we can talk about, about this.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously the spot is his, but,
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: going into a contract here.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: He could probably get a David Edwards type 22 23 24 million dollar a year deal.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if he's necessarily earned it.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_00]: He plays really well, but every once in a while he just whiffs and he
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: If you're making 24 mil a year, you can't have any plays where you're with.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_00]: So where do you stand on extending him?
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of feels like if it doesn't happen now, it's not going to happen.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: Because if he has a good year, he's going to price himself out in if he has a bad year.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, okay, he's replaceable.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: So what are you thinking there?
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, he's a friend of the program.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: So you hope he stays, but it's a lot of money.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: It is a lot of money, but I think Brandon Bean sort of has done this with a lot of players, and it's gone a couple different ways.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: I thought we had the same potential way of thinking with Connor McGuvern, and he ends up getting a deal, but does take a little bit less to stay here.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: But then
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we've had plenty of guys, you know, do what you said.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: You David Edwards, probably this year's the best example of, okay, we, you know, we're not going to spend that money on the left card position or we can't spend that money on left card position.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, you're going to have to walk.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see where that comes.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think they can convince Osiris to take a number next year and beyond to where he can stay with this offensive line.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: But that's just my personal opinion, and it's just based upon
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think that Osiris will want to stay with this group, I think that, you know, they'll be able to do enough for him and Brandon being able to be able to craft a deal enough for him to stay with the bills longer term.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_00]: three, I'm willing to throw this in the deal of sirens if you're looking three wing nuts trips on me, you know, so feel free to put that key factor that in and your negotiations, you know, bring that price down for the bill.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: So, right.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, I have to see maybe maybe Brandon will offer to put his credit card in for the offensive lineman dinner and their credit card roulette CEO that he was talking to us about.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh,
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, man, if you guys are doing credit card in your lead, I'd take my shot, I'd get enough offensive line dinner with you guys, and just most of them, the card doesn't get picked, and if it does, like, geez, we'll figure something out, but I hope you make a new one.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, but yeah, that's good and then obviously Spencer Brown and he talked recently on a podcast and just escaped me, but he was on one of the shows around here and you know talking about
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, his back and it's good.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it was centered on Buffalo or if it was another one of the podcasts, but sounds like he's feeling good and he's ready to go for camp.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: So good to see that Spencer Brownle will be ready to go.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, he's back.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: See, that's the main reason he fell in the draft was because of all these back issues.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: And early on, he missed some games, had some offseason surgeries, but he's been one of the more durable players, the bills have had over the last few years.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I miss a game here, a game there, but nothing crazy, so hopefully that continues.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because quite literally, a big piece of what they're trying to do.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: Right on.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to try to see if I can, I don't want to use that information and not give credit where credit is due.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: So just give me a moment.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to say anything more about the the right tackle spot.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I give credit and make sure I get that to the right person.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I mean, we can kind of go on to what we're going on.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm sorry, here it is.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: Thad Brown had him on his B kale nightly.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: So thanks, Thad Brown for for that interview with Spencer Brown.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: It was good and Therily enjoyed that.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: So check out if you haven't go to Thad Brown's X or other social media pages.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: You can see the interview with Spencer Brown pretty good stuff.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think they related.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's right.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know exactly.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: Bubble guys.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get into Roy's question real quick.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't mind in between the segments here and he says, any we talked about this a couple different times with Roy, but you haven't been here.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: So I wanted to bring it up with you.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: Just you know, Roy is of the opinion that
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: Without McDermott, maybe it's less of a ball control philosophy, more sort of gunning, running, gunning sort of offense, Josh Allen slinging it around to DJ Moore and the Possey there.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about the upcoming offensive philosophy, which plays into sort of how this offensive line is built and what they might be most effective at?
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: I definitely think there's some truth to the no war McDermott going to be more aggressive thing.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: I've said that for a while, but...
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: adding one receiver is not going to change the offensive philosophy as a whole in my opinion.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_00]: DJ Moore is very good and he's going to help the offense, but you still paid James Cook $50 million to be the running back and you're still paying these linemen who are really good run blockers and you still do want to control the ball because that's
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: How you win football games, you control the ball, you control the tempo, you play it your speed.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, DJ Moore is going to help a lot, but this team is still going to run the ball at a ton.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: James Cook is still going to get a lot of carries.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: Ray Davis is probably going to get more carries.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_00]: Ty Johnson is going to do what Ty Johnson does.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_00]: Then Josh Allen's obviously going to run the ball because he's Josh Allen.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, well, DJ Moore will help.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we will see some more aggressiveness in the passing game.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_00]: The offense is still going to be centered around the strong run games.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: it's kind of come back around where there was that period right around COVID, the 2000s where almost surrounding backs didn't matter.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_00]: They had that zoom call because no one was giving them second contracts because the thought process was and the bills did this for a while.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: You just draft another running back in the third round and you get 800, 900 yards out of them and you win by passing the ball.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_00]: But it's tough to do because
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: You turn the ball over.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: Your defense gets tired because you're on the field a lot.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of come back around.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: Look at the eagles.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: The chiefs just paid a lot of money for a running back in Kenneth Walker.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers, obviously, with Christian McAfrey, the Ravens, Derek Henry, like the top teams in the league.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: run the ball a lot.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: The seahawks last year end the ball a ton.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't think there's going to be, oh, we have a number one receiver now, but change the offensive velocity.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be there and he'll help and there'll be some shots taken to him, of course, but this is still going to be around the damn ball football team.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: right home.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_01]: I can't disagree with it there.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think that you know they're going to have to set up the past one way or another and I think that you know the pieces they've added will help in that but I think they may also have games where they can come out and sort of
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: get an air raid going on some teams and then the run will kind of finish the game off versus starting it right away and then there's going to be other games where they have to soften up a past defense by cram in it down their throats and then hopefully open some things up in the past game.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think I'm going to see a little more mixture of that where sometimes early on the emphasis will be on the passing game a little bit more than it maybe had been previously but I think overall
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: stats are going to show similar run versus past type of stuff.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: And because they're either going to pass to set up the run and milk away games with the run late or they're going to run to set up the past against tough passing defenses and have to loosen them up.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_01]: So I still think that's like you said the philosophies.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: to win football games is going to still be there, but it may be a little bit, it will be different, but still the more things change, the more they're going to stay the same in some facets of this.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one spot, I think the DGM will make a huge difference is,
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: When it's 3rd and 7, when it's late in the game and you've got to have it, you've got to guy who you can trust is going to win down the field, so maybe more aggressiveness there, but yeah, good.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_00]: They're not going to change the whole philosophy because of D.J.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: more.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're still going to do what they do best.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's get into the bubble around here.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I can start if you want, we can go into deep sale.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: We can go quick, we can whatever we want.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: So first guy I have up there, SVPG, Cedric Vontron Granger, CMake the team, if you were GM of the Buffalo Bills.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so, but it's because I don't know that he's going to be on the team necessarily.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think he may see him get a lot of reps in the preseason and be dangled.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe to be moved for some sort of draft pick or something during the preseason.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're going to draft pick for him if potentially.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: I agree with you.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he does.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think if the bills, he's been on the team for the last two seasons, obviously they like him enough for that.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: But last year in the divisional game, when Conner McGovern went and protocol and a big drive, he didn't come into play center, Alcanderson did.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: They brought in two guys who can play center and guard in cushionberry and Austin Corbeth this off season where I felt like that would have been his spot.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: So kind of feels like the bills are telling you without telling you that they don't like him that much.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I agree with you.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think he is gone.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: One of those guys I just mentioned, Lloyd Kushnerberry, center, bounce around the league a bit, one of the titans for a while hasn't played guard, but feel like he probably could.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think he is on this team, Tom, September.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I sort of think he's an important piece to have a veteran back up to Conor McGuver in just in case I do think that you need that and sort of an insurance policy, but if they feel comfortable with a guy like Austin Corvette as their swing interior offensive linemen, I could see if someone made an offer for him or
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: You know, maybe maybe they let him go there with the right offer, but outside of that, I would think that they want to keep him as sort of their insurance policy up the middle.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_00]: Agreed.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think he makes the team one scenario where I can see him not is.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: Say, I look Anderson wins the left guard spot.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_00]: Corbett's not going to be starting.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_00]: You have kind of that dedicated center back up there, whereas if Corbett's playing guard every snap, you don't necessarily have, I guess that could become out of Anderson, but he kind of is the back up for every offensive on positions.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: So I could see that world then maybe Kushner very becomes expendable, but I think I agree.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think he makes the team.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_00]: He's inexpensive.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: He has good experience, yeah.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: Agreed.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: One thing I will say is that, yeah, Corbet has a pretty good bill of center experience as well.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then also played a lot more.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_01]: A lot more right guard than left as well.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_01]: So a lot of experience in the center and right guard positions during his career, but some games as well on the left side.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_01]: Just not so many.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think he had 71 snaps last year at left guard and I'm not sure he played left guard other than that.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: in previous years either per my PFF research and if that's incorrect I apologize but from what I see here I hadn't seen them play a left-guard other than last season for about 71 snaps which is about what Elk Anderson had in the one game against the jets that he played significant snaps for the bills at
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: the left-guard position as well.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see how that all rolls out.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that cushionberry, like you said, and we both alluded to, would be sort of on the bubble if if they're comfortable with Corbett as they're swing into your in backup center role, and then maybe cushionberry goes.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_01]: But I would
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: mature if they would release him if they could use him as insurance or if it would be more so someone making an offer to take them off the bills hands that they would sort of let him go in that regard.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I don't know if he would make it there, but practice squad guy potentially probably wouldn't make it there, but I wouldn't want to, but yeah, we'll see.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: 32 teams had a chance to sign them and the bills got them in what like April.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_00]: So it didn't have the biggest market, but after training came, things changed.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, younger than Corbet, too.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, if you're going to keep one guy, maybe
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: maybe be in nearly 29 versus nearly 31 might help his case and being the guy they keep.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know if age will play a role and who they want to keep there, but they're going to probably whoever they in my opinion will get through who we think they're going to keep by that probably would keep both of those guys if all goes to plan.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: I have him on the team, I have to make it the roster.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that he has done a decent job.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's done anything he could.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: But I think he's looked at decent last year enough to where they could say, hey, we drafted this guy.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_01]: And we want to keep him around and give him another shot at this thing and help the team.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_00]: I do not think he makes the 53.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think he'll be on the practice squad.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_00]: Six round pick last year, made the team, some of that was close because the Grable was on the IR.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: He was the inactive, most games.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_00]: He got in two games.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's on the practice squad.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think if Grable is healthy, he would take that third tackle spot because that would be the kind of he'd be competing for the same spot.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think they like Grable better, considering all the roster gymnastics they've done to keep them on the team for the last two seasons.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_00]: But with Vandemar gone, they're in failure, our two tackle spots open, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that he makes it and they keep them both, but if it's either or, I think it's Grable.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I wouldn't disagree if it's either or, I just think like you said with Vandemar's departure, I do think there's a spot for Chase Lunt there.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, and then the last guy is Grable, I think, yes, I think, how much of a lock in a seventh or eighth offensive line would be, but in that world, I think he's as close to a lock as it comes.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, John alluded to in the in the comments there that Grable is the favorite leader in the clubhouse, maybe is the swing tackle if he stays healthy and we'll see how that plays out, but I would tend to agree with that notion.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, Tyler, we're able would make the 53 as far as I'm concerned.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, we kind of went through most of it with the starters and those bubble guys, but who would read lists on this show?
- 44:27[SPEAKER_01]: So let's list them off.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, do you want to go first?
- 44:31[SPEAKER_00]: You want me to get there more or less the same, but I'm going to give my my guys you make it or do you want to give me more.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_01]: I've got the bills keeping I'll go.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_01]: I got the bills keep in 10 offensive linemen here.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: I've got Austin Corbett, Lloyd Kushenberry, Connor McGuvern, Osiris Torrance, Alic Anderson, Jude Bowery, Spencer Brown, Dianne Dawkins, Tiling Grable, and Chase Lunt.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I've got 10 guys there for the bills on the offensive
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: are looking to stay heavier in other groups, and so they trim this down to nine, at which case Scott will tell you the nine that are most likely they go.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have them keeping nine last year.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_00]: They kept nine out of camp, 10 with Grable on the IR.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_00]: So who knows, the bills are really good at that roster.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_00]: IR gymnastics.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe one of these bubble guys plays all through training camp and all through preseason games and all of a sudden has a terrible injury that costs them half the season, but no one ever heard about it, then they're back.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_00]: miraculously.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_00]: So that could happen.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I have the same group as you.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: I just have one on the practice squad instead of the active roster.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: Also have our module Adams, the gather drafted out of A&M, making the practice squad as well.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they'll keep one more there.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think they keep nine, same nine as you, but want to the practice squad.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I've got where Scott has lunch and our mosh read Adams is the only two offensive linemen on the practice squad.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: I've got Bruno Fina Nick Broker and our mosh read Adams is three offensive linemen going to the practice squad.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: I could see them picking up another guy.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think they love three line men.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know if they're in this group.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: I guess Brockor would probably be the leader there.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_00]: He was on the practice squad for most of the last season.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_00]: This bounced around the league so he has been here.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, as maybe you want to try to find a roster to hang on to, but he hasn't had any luck yet.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: So practice squad it is.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, before we got it, it is worth mentioning.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: a couple of things I think who's mentioned by John and the comments too and I'd be remiss.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: Last year the bills didn't allow a ton of sacks, 19 total sacks, which I guess maybe is more than you want on Josh Allen, but individually shadowing out.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_01]: individually shouting out, I guess, would be kind of a govern, not allowing a single one in Osiris warrants allowed three Spencer Brown allowed two and then David Edwards for the
- 47:16[SPEAKER_01]: 16 sacs total by the starters there, Alec Anderson to give up one for what's worth in his limited playing time as well.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, you know, they're they're going to have to button up, uh, Yes, but the bills give up 40 sacs last year.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: What's that?
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: We're not a math podcast, but the bills are snack 40 times last year.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_00]: The year before was what, like 14, and it was a record, and then last year it was like the most in the league.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't those up there.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: So like there was a problem last year.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_01]: I was looking at PFF for the offensive line blocking.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I may have missed here.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: They may have assigned.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_01]: Or maybe no one giving them up.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, overall.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like you're right.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, 40 total sacks and made in the sign of all the people I guess, but per PFF.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_01]: Those numbers are what they are for what the start was gave up as an offensive line.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually the quarterbacks.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_01]: right on.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that's, you know, that's the biggest thing.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_01]: They see about 30 percent blitz percentage.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_01]: They have over the last few years.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to see probably more and more blitzes.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: And those sort of looks, I will see if DGA more changes that for this offense, if they think that Alan and more get on the same age a little bit.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_01]: and Alan has the ability to get the ball out to a guy like more, or maybe having more on the field opens up guy like Clio Schierlittle bit more, and you can get it to him quicker, and then also worth mentioning outside of the passing game that the team was second in rushing EPA at plus 26.1 last season.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_01]: 46.6% rate, success rate and team rushing according to NFL Pro for what that's worth.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_01]: So overall the offensive line helped this team be a pretty good running and overall offensive team.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they do that again this year.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like Scott mentioned four of the five guys coming back.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_01]: expect a ton of regression overall for the group.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_01]: So that's sort of our overall outlook to you have any sort of overall things you want to say about the offensive line group and sort of what this year might bring and is challenges or needed improvement from last year.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's a top three group in football.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's really any any debate about that.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_00]: left guard and we got a lot of guys you can play the position but none of the guys have pad played the position so could be some growing pains there got good guys you can fit in just my taking a little while to get used to some of the nuances but yeah I got to clean up the sacks gave up too many last year and the only half kidding when I say all sacks should be on the quarterback a lot of that's on Josh Allen and getting the ball out and like you mentioned having a guy like DJ Moore that hopefully he can trust and maybe having Dalton can cade healthy for
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: more of the season.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that helps as well, guys, he can trust.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_00]: He can get the ball out quicker.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe if they're not open, he knows he can still throw it to him and it's not going to get intercepted.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's the biggest thing got to clean up on some of the sacks, but they're great group and I don't see any reason why they won't have a top five ranked offense at the end of this season as well and a lot of it's coming on the backs of these guys.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, sir.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, sir.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: All right, guys.
