- High Five Hot Mess Podcast: Lisa, what she's like, your psychic just told me love has passed me by and I'm never going to find it again. Look over and the psychic is putting food in her purse. Stop. I want to hear about it because I have, I have a lot of, of experience in like psychics and tarot and all of that. So I want to hear, cause I've never been to one of your Halloween parties. Because you were having your Halloween parties back in DC. So we didn't even live by each other at all. So I to, I got to hear about it. you need to know that Halloween is my Christmas. I love Halloween. It's my favorite holiday. I don't decorate for Christmas. I decorate for Halloween and I don't decorate like, like I just love all things dark and spooky. I always have, I've always had a dark heart. ⁓ And in, and we... We figured out, so in Virginia, we had a huge circle of friends from work, because we all lived and worked in the same place. And no one did Halloween. Like everyone had Thanksgiving, Super Bowl, Christmas, but nobody had Halloween, so we dipped it. And we these huge Halloween parties with like, like we would get a dance floor with a tent and like a deejay and a bar and like, you name it. But me being the... hostess with the mostess, I was always worried that people weren't going to be bored. Sounds ridiculous now. mean with a tent and a dance floor and all the things. I wanted them to have an activity. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. No, totally. So I did child labor because I hired all my friends' kids. So what they all did, I one watched my dog, one watched our dog, another one would work the door. people- had a photo station. when people walked in- They had to have their picture taken with the background and people loved it. They just loved it. But I had children taking the pictures. I had children working the line. It was great. So like, you know, I'm always looking for a deal and like the hundred bucks was like, they were rich. Like, yeah, if they're young kids. Yeah. So they were like, great. was like, okay. I started looking into like, the thumbtack of the area of hiring people to come in and DJ hiring. And I saw this woman's name, was like psychic. And I was like, Doug, what do you think if we hire a psychic? And he was like, yeah, why not? How much is it? And I'm like, it's like $150 for the whole night. was like, yeah, absolutely. I'm like, okay. Now, like we set up and we called her like Madame Zolda or something like that. And we set up. a table with like a, have a magic ball. have a magic crystal. So that up in the middle, like we hung all this stuff around it. And you know, we went about our merry way and people start coming. She shows up, we put her in little station. Like I had no idea the demand for this psychic. Like people were like coming up to me and they're like, I've been in line for two hours for this psychic. And I'm like, well, I don't know what you want me to do. So one of the things you need to know is I was like job hunting. I'm always job hunting. I swear to God, I just stay in a job. ⁓ I was job hunting and I really wanted this job and the executive that was responsible for hiring for that job came to the party. And I was like, okay, like So there's like a level of. Right? Yeah. to step. Like extra pressure to perform, have like the best family party that's ever existed. So we have the DJ, the dance floor is packed. Everyone's taking pictures. We have a movie station that we set up in the backyard as well, playing black and white movies, like old horror films with like a fire pit so people were over there. it was a huge hit. And then, ⁓ you know, I'm checking on everybody as they're all kind of like doing their thing. And I'm checking on the executive. She seems like she's doing okay. One of my friends came. and she has severe anxiety, but she's a Halloweenaholic and she's since passed away, but at the time she was like my ride or die for all things Halloween. And so I was like, you know, I need you to make sure that everything's going okay. She was like, okay. And then she's like, sorry, this bug. So like a half an hour later, it's like, I don't know, 8.30, it's early, right? Someone comes up to me and she's like, so we might have a problem with the psychic. I'm like, what are you talking about? And they're like, Apparently she's like giving people really bad news. I'm like, what? And I'm like, well, you know, it can't all be good news. And I'm I'm over here dealing with the barbecue, like, I have things I'm working on, you know, and I'm trying to like see all my friends. So another person comes over. It's just like Lisa. I like, what? goes, I have been waiting to see that psychic for two hours. I'm with this guy. It's our first date. Like we've never, like, this is it. Yeah, go to talk to her and she tells him she's not the right one for you. Like it's never gonna work out. And so that's over. And she was like, first of all, how dare you? How dare you tell him that I'm not the one for him? He's the one in a monkey costume. ⁓ She's given some other people some bad news. One of my very best friends of all time, her and her new husband were there and he's older than she is. quite a bit and she comes over and she's like, so this isn't great. She told me I should start looking for my next husband because the clock has already started on this one. Stop. No, did not. Like he was going to die or he was going to die. Like he's so old, clock's ticking. Okay, this is terrible. Like this can't. So I go, I find Doug because he solves all my problems. guys haven't figured that out yet. So I go and tell Doug, he's like, well, what do want me to do? I'm like, I don't know, do we need to say something to her? And he's like, what do we say? So then the executive comes up to me. So here's the backstory. So the executive had had a torrid affair with someone at work, did not work out. She had to relocate and has kind of been in a spiral ever since. Right? I mean, it happens. And she's, you know, north of 50. Right? So it's not like, you know, it's young love that didn't work out. It was like, they were both married. Probably should have, you know, they both ended, like she ended up in divorce and leaving as a whole. Super messy. Super messy. she comes up to me and she's like, Lisa, what? She's like, Your psychic just told me love has passed me by and I'm never going to find it again. It's not your fault that she's got bad news because she just got me at your Halloween party by your gloomy psychic. Yes, it's all my fault. so, I mean, I like went up to the psychic, I'm like, could you like just take it down a notch? She's like, maybe, maybe don't. be so mean to people. And she's like, can't, I can't do this. I'm not doing anything. You know, and I'm like, what do you say? Right? You're just like, I mean, they can not say stuff. could maybe let, yeah, to your point, like soften the delivery a bit. So I thought for sure. And then like, it's the end of the night and like, you know, people are, hammered. Like I don't drink. So for me, it's like extra special. Just seeing everybody just falling all over each other and I'm sure the police had come, which everyone was very excited about because we were all a bunch of old people having such a great party. The police got called. Like that was a win for all of us. It was like we we are, we've still got it. And I look over in the, like everyone, everyone's leaving and I look over and the psychic is putting food in her purse. Like food from the end. was like, hey, do you want me to make you some plates? Yeah, I can... Like to take with you? And she was like, oh, that'd be great. Okay. So here I am, Tupperware, Tupperware, Tupperware. She leaves. Doug and I are talking. We're like, never again. That was... People did not like it. And so the next year comes around and this is like an annual event. Once you've done it and people like it, they're expecting it Yeah, you have to do it again. Got yourself in the party cycle. You're never going to get out of the party cycle. So I was like, all right, we're going to do it again this year. And literally I had 15 text messages as soon as the invite went out. There was like, why is the psychic not going to be there? And I was like, well, I have a fire breather and I have a fire eater. They're like, ah, where's the psychic? So literally like she became a staple in every single party. We had it for like five or six years in a row. before COVID happened and she was like, she was a saint. Like literally I had to get like a bouncer for her because people kept trying to, like they didn't want to wait their turn. So they kept trying to cut the line. I had to like put someone's kid as a bouncer to make sure that people weren't cutting the To that people stayed like in line? Yes. Oh man. People waited all night because you know. towards the end, was always like, she's like, I got like six more people in my can you stay? It's like just her and like these six people in my house till like two in the morning. But she always stayed. She was amazing. I love it. Was she psychic? I mean, we don't know. We don't know for sure. But I do know that psychics usually won't give you all the gloom and doom all the time. Like that's just kind of not their thing, but that might've been her thing. That might've been like, you know, she saw it, the thought come in dark and heavy and she's like, I'm going to give it to you. I'm going to wreck your life. I'm going to crush your dreams. was a dream crusher. A dream crusher. Like, like she has like, you know, just channeling like, Hey, you know what? You're a dick and terrible things are going to happen to you. You're done. It was so bad. I love that story. I love it. Yeah, the fire breather was pretty amazing and that was awesome. We had some great stuff happen. We had a couple that came to our party as their first date. Not the bad news. that one. And they got married and had a baby. And they called it out at their wedding, which I thought that was really nice. It's a pretty epic party, sounds like. Maybe we're matchmakers, Lisa. Maybe I just need to have a party for you.
